Transcript
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I love the first week or the first moment of writing down a new goal or a new target in my life.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: And honestly, it's also the same darn place where I disappear as well.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Fierce Encouragement.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: My name is Mark Walker.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I created this show for people who carry a ton and still want to wait to feel better on the inside.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: These are real stories.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: They're simple tools you can practice, and there's no fluff.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: So let's get into it.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: There's something deeply, well, at least for myself, I'm not sure if this resonates with you, but there's something deeply satisfying to me about sketching out new goals or fresh ideas to chase.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And even inside that process, I get lost.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: I can overthink and get really good at over-planning, over-strategizing, even researching and consuming new facts or new stories or getting lost in that whole process.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: But this is where the drift starts to happen for me.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I get high on the new information, and then I start to drift.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Because the truth is, there's oftentimes where I fail to even build what I really want to bring to you, bringing the shifts or the changes that you feel in your life, bringing that increased sense of mindfulness into your day, into your work.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Even that resonant background awareness that's at the center of what I coach on and what I love to speak on.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And there's a cost here for me.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And I'm wondering if it resonates with you.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: There's a cost by overconsuming podcasts and books and information.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: That cost is the hesitation and the delay can overwhelm those bigger plans or those bigger visions that I have for my business and for my life.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: TikNot Han had a great quote that I want to share here.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And he said this a wonderful Dharma teacher.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: He said, The mind chases after thousands of things.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: But we rarely return to ourselves.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: We rarely come back and rest in ourselves, in a sense.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: We stay lost in that forgetfulness of the chase.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And I know I've had this, but I start to feel alienated from what I'm doing, from what I'm creating.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: I start to feel alienated from myself.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: So the human mind is really good at finding patterns in life.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And I would say we can even train that by going to university and school and buying books and ingesting more theory and more information.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: It almost can become an addiction in a sense, an addiction of distracting ourselves more.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And even really powerful thinkers with PhDs and tons of university education and books and tons of courses and powerful coaches and powerful leaders, they can be really good at ruminating in their own intellect.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: So our real problems may sit inside of us and not on the outside.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And I think this is a place where we can shift the frame of reference and we can invite ourselves to learn and grow, in a sense, from the inside out.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: When we slow down, when we practice mindful awareness, and when we start from a place of our own inner peace, our own inner space, when we recognize that awareness behind the thinking, we allow ourselves to slowly but inevitably move into this world.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: I believe, and I've seen in my own experiments and those of my clients and the feedback, this is when life starts to flow and have an ease to it.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So I would love to share a tool here and really strongly encourage you to practice this.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Maybe pause the recording if you have the ability to.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Instead, turn off the AI, turn off the podcast, put down the books, and come back to your page, to your 20 minutes.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: This can be really frustrating, but when we practice this make first block in our day, maybe putting it at the front of our day before we start our activities or even checking our email, this will shift your whole morning and your whole creative process.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: And it will shift how your day unfolds.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I would love to challenge you right here.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Practice this for three mornings in a row.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Slow down, make first block, and then go into your day.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: I'd love to hear how this lands with you.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: I've had really positive experiences in my own journey with this make first block, and I've seen it help people that I get to coach and teams I get to talk to.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Let me know how it lands for you.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: I'm really curious.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: I'll keep this episode nice and tight.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: Practice that make first block.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Thank you for tuning in.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: This has been Fierce Encouragement.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Again, my name is Mark.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: If you ever feel like talking this through with someone, I want to say that there's a coaching application process in the show notes.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Or even if you wanted to tap in with a quick coffee chat, I love to connect with people that listen to my podcast.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And again, the link is in the show notes.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Take a minute.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Let me know if you'd like to meet up.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: But this has been Fierce Encouragement.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: And until next time, I just encourage yourself to be kind to yourself, to be compassionate to yourself along the journey of life.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: You are definitely worth it.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Take care of yourself.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: We'll catch you next time.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Bye.
