Speaker 2: But as we do every Friday, let's welcome in our
2:59
Speaker 2: good friend Angie Gillenwater from Mconnaal, Charleston, New Man Association
3:02
Speaker 2: with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Angie,
3:06
Speaker 2: good morning, welcome back to the show. You're away from
3:09
Speaker 2: us last week. Glad to have you back again.
3:11
Speaker 4: Ah, good morning. I'm happy to be back. Pittsburgh was
3:15
Speaker 4: it was? Okay? So I'm happy to be that.
3:17
Speaker 2: You're not a Yenser, You're not a Pittsburgh man.
3:21
Speaker 4: I'm a fan of the TV show The Pit. Okay,
3:24
Speaker 4: we'll call it that, all right, we'll follow that.
3:26
Speaker 2: It's great to have you back with us them. As always,
3:29
Speaker 2: when we do the Adopt Me Please Put of the Week,
3:30
Speaker 2: we turn your attention to Dave Allen Radio or the
3:33
Speaker 2: WCHS network Facebook page or at Dave A seventy on
3:36
Speaker 2: X for our PEX Pit of the Week. But Angie,
3:38
Speaker 2: before we get to that, I want to welcome aboard
3:41
Speaker 2: a new sponsor for the Adopt Me Please Put of
3:43
Speaker 2: the Week because you got to step it up now, Angie,
3:45
Speaker 2: this segment's now sponsored.
3:46
Speaker 4: Okay, well, I will do my best, but I appreciate
3:51
Speaker 4: this new sponsor. Can't wait to hear all about it.
3:53
Speaker 2: It's heavy. I'm gonna let I'm me tell you. It's
3:55
Speaker 2: Almost Heaven Interiors. Almost Heaven Interiors, five sixteen D Street
3:59
Speaker 2: in South Charleston. Every stitch, every detail perfect, every time.
4:03
Speaker 2: Almost have an interior's family owned, proudly serving the community
4:06
Speaker 2: for over fifty years. And they specialized Angie and custom blinds.
4:09
Speaker 2: They do shades, shutters, upholstery, beautifully crafted son night and
4:13
Speaker 2: from homes to hospitals, classrooms to commercial spaces, they do
4:17
Speaker 2: it all with designer fabrics and more. It's Almost Having Interiors,
4:21
Speaker 2: five sixteen D Street in South Charleston. All right, that's
4:24
Speaker 2: our new sponsor this week. So maybe you can hit
4:26
Speaker 2: them up maybe to do one of your adoption events there, Agie,
4:29
Speaker 2: because they're definitely animal lovers there.
4:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, I was gonna say it sound like they really
4:33
Speaker 4: do it. Also, I will definitely be doing that, and again,
4:37
Speaker 4: thank you so much for them for sponsoring this.
4:39
Speaker 2: All right, really do appreciate it. Absolutely. We've got scraps
4:43
Speaker 2: is are a dog this week and by the way,
4:46
Speaker 2: you and Ryan. You know my the producer. Ryan always
4:48
Speaker 2: know the inside on the names. I'll tell you the
4:50
Speaker 2: Scraps that I know. It's the dog in the movie
4:53
Speaker 2: Airplane One. That's the dog's name in Airplane One with Scraps.
4:57
Speaker 4: I have never seen it.
4:59
Speaker 2: But Angel, you're killing me. It's a comedy classic. I'll
5:04
Speaker 2: have to look it up and tell us about Scraps.
5:08
Speaker 4: So Scraps was found abandoned in a house with That's
5:12
Speaker 4: how he got his name for us. He was just
5:14
Speaker 4: abandoned with like table scraps to eat. So he was
5:18
Speaker 4: part of a cruelty case. The cruelty case has sense resolved.
5:22
Speaker 4: He's available for an option with us at ksey h
5:26
Speaker 4: A now and he is. He's an older guy. You
5:30
Speaker 4: can see that by his picture. He's got that nice
5:32
Speaker 4: sugar face going on.
5:34
Speaker 2: Sugar face?
5:37
Speaker 4: Have you never heard that?
5:38
Speaker 2: I know, but I like the way it sounds because
5:41
Speaker 2: I got a little bit of gray in the goateea here,
5:43
Speaker 2: So I want to be called now sugar face, but
5:46
Speaker 2: go ahead, there you go.
5:49
Speaker 4: So he's I would say, like seven to eight years old,
5:52
Speaker 4: maybe older, but he's great with other playful dogs. But
5:56
Speaker 4: a year in the shelter can have a serious toll
5:59
Speaker 4: on any animal's mental health, and Scraps has. He's developed
6:04
Speaker 4: a small fear of strangers, which I mean understandably. So
6:07
Speaker 4: a year in pretty much isolation with seeing the same
6:10
Speaker 4: people every single day, that might do it to you.
6:13
Speaker 4: So our behavior team, if you are interested, our behavior
6:17
Speaker 4: team is wonderful. They have a full list of resources
6:19
Speaker 4: of what to expect and how to overcome this with Scraps.
6:22
Speaker 4: So if you're interested, don't let that stop you. He's neutered,
6:25
Speaker 4: he's sponsored, so all he needs is someone to say, yes, he's.
6:28
Speaker 2: A beautiful dog. Any idea what kind of dog he is?
6:32
Speaker 4: He's kind of patititue and a lot smaller than that
6:35
Speaker 4: picture prooftrays him. He's like thirty ish pounds, so I
6:38
Speaker 4: would say he's probably like a tearrier mix of sort.
6:41
Speaker 2: Well, he's a beautiful dog. I mean, he absolutely is.
6:44
Speaker 2: And he's got a little age on him. I mean,
6:45
Speaker 2: seven is not that old. But sometimes people don't want
6:48
Speaker 2: to adopt the the older dogs or the older cats
6:51
Speaker 2: for that matter as well, So consider giving Scraps a home. Again,
6:54
Speaker 2: As you said, he came from a pretty bad background,
6:57
Speaker 2: but he's warming up to people. Do we know anything
6:59
Speaker 2: about other dogs or cats?
7:02
Speaker 4: Great with other dogs, he goes to playgroups and love
7:04
Speaker 4: socializing with other dogs cats. I am not one hundred
7:07
Speaker 4: percent sure. He is a smaller guy and he doesn't
7:11
Speaker 4: have a high prey drive where he is older, so
7:14
Speaker 4: I would say that you you know, with proper introductions,
7:17
Speaker 4: it could be successful.
7:19
Speaker 2: All right, Then we'll get back to scrats a little
7:20
Speaker 2: bit later on again. His pictures posted at Dave Allen
7:23
Speaker 2: Radio on Facebook and the w CHS Network Facebook page,
7:26
Speaker 2: as well as that David seventy on X and Angel.
7:28
Speaker 2: You are one week away from Tuxes and Tails next
7:31
Speaker 2: Saturday night, jq Dickets and Salt Works in Malden.
7:34
Speaker 4: We are feeling it too, where we're down to the
7:36
Speaker 4: wire of getting everything ready, so to make sure it's
7:39
Speaker 4: the best one yet.
7:40
Speaker 2: All right, tickets do we still have a few.
7:43
Speaker 4: A very few left. There are still a few left
7:46
Speaker 4: if you are interested, and if you can't make it
7:48
Speaker 4: to Tuxes and Tails, you can take part in the
7:50
Speaker 4: Silent auction as well. So you know, this is our
7:53
Speaker 4: biggest fundraising event of the year. You definitely want to
7:56
Speaker 4: be there, especially with a new venu and a new team.
7:58
Speaker 2: Now you said that you can that you can take
8:02
Speaker 2: part in the Silent auction, whether you're there or not.
8:04
Speaker 2: Is that what you said.
8:06
Speaker 4: Yes, it's also you can bid four items on the website,
8:10
Speaker 4: okay for the silent auction on what you can find
8:13
Speaker 4: on the Tuxas and tail facebook page kind of see
8:15
Speaker 4: what's up for grabs, all.
8:17
Speaker 2: That good stuff, all right, So that's good to know.
8:19
Speaker 2: So even if you can't make it, because you know
8:21
Speaker 2: this time of year, there's always a lot of activities
8:23
Speaker 2: going on. Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town
8:25
Speaker 2: next weekend or I would love to be there, but
8:27
Speaker 2: people can still go to the website and they can
8:31
Speaker 2: take part in the signment auction. You guys are going
8:33
Speaker 2: to be out and about anywhere this weekend.
8:35
Speaker 4: Our weekend is very booked and busy. We're excited. So
8:39
Speaker 4: we're partnering with Green Infusion and Charleston for an adoption event.
8:42
Speaker 4: They'll have food truck vendors, all that set up, and
8:46
Speaker 4: then Rainbow Pride of West Virginia is coming to the
8:48
Speaker 4: shelter to do a little fundraising event. So we're super
8:52
Speaker 4: excited for all the stuff we have going on on Saturday.
8:54
Speaker 4: Both of those are Saturday, all right.
8:56
Speaker 2: And you had a big event a couple of nights
8:58
Speaker 2: ago at one of my favorite places, Street Brewing on
9:00
Speaker 2: Summer Street.
9:02
Speaker 4: Yes we did. We were able to raise well and
9:06
Speaker 4: you know, well over one thousand dollars for shelter pets
9:09
Speaker 4: because of this event, and two of our shelter pets,
9:12
Speaker 4: including my foster puppy, doctor Robbie, found the home.
9:15
Speaker 2: Lots of it we had. We had doctor Robbie on
9:18
Speaker 2: the show a couple of weeks ago, right, we did.
9:20
Speaker 4: Indeed, and somebody there saw him, liked him and on their.
9:24
Speaker 2: PaperWorks, good good, good stuff right there, all right. So uh,
9:29
Speaker 2: I want to give a big shout out to the
9:31
Speaker 2: saw us on your Facebook page, to the folks at
9:33
Speaker 2: T and R Services of West Virginia because they helped
9:36
Speaker 2: you guys out with some little rental renovations and some
9:39
Speaker 2: upgrades there of the shelter.
9:41
Speaker 4: They certainly did. We had a railing that was really
9:46
Speaker 4: a big safety hazard to anyone visiting the shelter, so
9:50
Speaker 4: they repaired that railing for us. So now it is
9:54
Speaker 4: back in use, which is lovely for walking up the
9:56
Speaker 4: steps and walking up the rants. They also clear out
10:00
Speaker 4: a lot of our AC unit, made sure those were
10:04
Speaker 4: in working order because it has been quite stuffy for
10:06
Speaker 4: both people and dogs at the shelter here recently. And
10:10
Speaker 4: you know, they got all that back in working order
10:12
Speaker 4: for us, plus just going around anything that we asked
10:15
Speaker 4: them yesterday. They were like, yeah, we'll take a look
10:17
Speaker 4: at it. Great.
10:18
Speaker 2: Great to have community partners like that. I mean it
10:21
Speaker 2: certainly is What are you guys in need of right
10:24
Speaker 2: now out there? As far as the I know you
10:26
Speaker 2: always need volunteers, There's certain things, certain items you always need.
10:29
Speaker 2: What do you need of as far as.
10:30
Speaker 4: Items, So the biggest thing right now, we are running
10:33
Speaker 4: extremely low on purian a dog chow and just Puriana
10:37
Speaker 4: products in general. So purian A puppy chow kit and
10:40
Speaker 4: chow and cat chow. That's the dry food that we
10:42
Speaker 4: feed our pets in the shelter and stock is getting low, all.
10:46
Speaker 2: Right, So let's get out there. We have a question
10:49
Speaker 2: here for you, and this is this is shelter, have
10:52
Speaker 2: volunteers look at the Missing and Lost Pets Facebook page
10:55
Speaker 2: just to see if non chipped animals are actually posted
10:58
Speaker 2: on there as a way to try to reunite with
11:00
Speaker 2: their families.
11:02
Speaker 4: So we created a Facebook group not too long ago
11:04
Speaker 4: called KHA Pet Detectives, and that was essentially their responsibility was,
11:09
Speaker 4: you know, running down all these leads and all these
11:11
Speaker 4: animals and trying to match them up the animals in
11:13
Speaker 4: our care. The Facebook group itself didn't really take off,
11:18
Speaker 4: but we do have a lot of volunteers that spend
11:21
Speaker 4: their time just going through all these Facebook groups, messaging
11:25
Speaker 4: us talking to people on Facebook. So we do have
11:28
Speaker 4: that available. But the group itself, the official name, nobody
11:32
Speaker 4: really wanted the jackets and the pens and all that
11:35
Speaker 4: for it, so but we do have that available to us.
11:38
Speaker 2: All right, Angie, appreciate you being here. You guys are
11:41
Speaker 2: going to be out and very busy tomorrow, as you said,
11:44
Speaker 2: of course, getting ready for tuxas and tails next Saturday night.
11:46
Speaker 2: Appreciate you being here. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.
11:49
Speaker 4: Absolutely, have a good one.
11:50
Speaker 2: And a reminder that our adopt me please spend it
11:52
Speaker 2: the week now sponsored by Almost Having Interiors located at
11:56
Speaker 2: five sixteen d Street in South Charleston. All right, our
11:58
Speaker 2: pet of the week is scraps prere posted Dave Allen
12:01
Speaker 2: Radio and Facebook and at dave A seventy on X
12:03
Speaker 2: and also the WCCHS Network Facebook page Scraps. He's a
12:07
Speaker 2: senior guy, around seven years old. He was part of
12:10
Speaker 2: a cruelty case which has resulted him having to stay
12:14
Speaker 2: almost the entire year at the shelter. The case is resolved.
12:18
Speaker 2: He is available for adoption. He's sponsored, so he's free,
12:22
Speaker 2: great with other playful dogs. He's new to vaccinated. He
12:25
Speaker 2: is ready to go. Go get this dog. It's so
12:28
Speaker 2: happy that we got doctor Robbie from a few weeks back,
12:31
Speaker 2: adopted at the event that they did at five Street
12:33
Speaker 2: a couple of nights ago. So big shout out to
12:35
Speaker 2: the folks that adopted Doctor Robbie, and also big shout
12:37
Speaker 2: out to the folks at five Street for hosting that
12:41
Speaker 2: event as well. So again our pictures posted Dave all
12:43
Speaker 2: on radio and Facebook and the WCCHS Network Facebook page
12:47
Speaker 2: and at dave a seventy on X. We'll take a break.
12:50
Speaker 2: Coming up a little bit later on Home Run Derby
12:52
Speaker 2: time tomorrowt Gomart Ballpark. We'll talk to the dirty Birds
12:55
Speaker 2: folks about that. Plus Zach Harold from a festival Stomps
12:58

15:46
Speaker 2: the new shelter soundproof since the echo is kind of
15:49
Speaker 2: disturbing for some animals. She said, first of all, first thing,
15:54
Speaker 2: kennels that don't face each other, look at other dogs
15:57
Speaker 2: and actually be stressful for some shelter. As far as soundproof,
16:01
Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but definitely designed to reduce the amount
16:03
Speaker 2: of noise you'll hear in our kennels. Now less open concept,
16:06
Speaker 2: if you will, says Angie. Want to welcome into the
16:09
Speaker 2: show now. Kim Williams, who's a candidate for Board of
16:11
Speaker 2: Education Kanan County, good morning, welcome to the show. Thank you, okay,
16:15
Speaker 2: I thank you. May have accidentally turned your microphone off
16:17
Speaker 2: over there? Is there a that happened? Sometimes? Seeing on
16:20
Speaker 2: button in and I tried again? Okay, well we got
16:23
Speaker 2: no microphone over there, so tell you what we'll do.
16:26
Speaker 2: We'll just have you switched over to this side. How's
16:28
Speaker 2: that all right? So we got operator error here, so
16:32
Speaker 2: we'll have you go over to this I don't know
16:33
Speaker 2: what's going on with the microphone, but it is not
16:35
Speaker 2: working all right, so we'll switch to this microphone. All right.
16:38
Speaker 2: That's not on you, Kim, that's on us.
16:41
Speaker 1: How's that? Okay?
16:42
Speaker 2: All right, there you go, there you go? All right,
16:45
Speaker 2: all right, Kim Williams. Let's start again. Welcome in now
16:48
Speaker 2: Kim Williams, who's a candidate for Bard of Education in
16:49
Speaker 2: Kanan County. Good morning, Kim, and welcome to the show.
16:52
Speaker 11: Good morning, Dave.
16:52
Speaker 2: Thank you so much. I give us your bio. Tell
16:55
Speaker 2: us about Kim Williams.
16:56
Speaker 11: Okay, I'm a graduate of Canak County Schools, graduated from
17:01
Speaker 11: Marshall University, undergraduate graduate of Marshall University, Masters in K
17:08
Speaker 11: through six, have a Safety and Health degree as well
17:13
Speaker 11: as an Administrative studies from Salem University. Both my parents
17:19
Speaker 11: were educators. My dad, Tax Williams was an educator in
17:23
Speaker 11: the county for years in a basketball coach on the
17:27
Speaker 11: high school and middle school levels. My mother, Sandra Sioue Hill,
17:32
Speaker 11: was an educator at Cross Lanes Elementary. I'm from a
17:36
Speaker 11: third generation of educators. I have forty four years of
17:41
Speaker 11: experience with Kannaugh County Schools. I spent twenty four years
17:46
Speaker 11: as an elementary teacher, nineteen years in administration, and my
17:50
Speaker 11: last year I was Title nine investigator for kannaughh County Schools.
17:54
Speaker 2: So why do you want to be on the Board
17:55
Speaker 2: of Education now?
17:56
Speaker 11: I am very passionate about education. I still feel that
17:59
Speaker 11: I have a lot to offer the students and personnel
18:04
Speaker 11: and the I firmly believe in the power of public
18:08
Speaker 11: education and I think it shapes strong communities and builds
18:13
Speaker 11: great futures for all students, and I want to be
18:15
Speaker 11: a part of that.
18:17
Speaker 2: Todd to Kim Williams again, who is a candidate for
18:18
Speaker 2: Knaw County Board of Education. But Dave Allen show in
18:21
Speaker 2: five eighty Live brought to you imparked by Husband's Pizza.

Speaker 2: and a large toss Solid twenty one ninety nine dining
18:28
Speaker 2: pickup or get delivery at Huston's Pizza dot com. Kim,
18:30
Speaker 2: what do you see as some of the biggest needs
18:32
Speaker 2: or concerns as a city member if you're elected to
18:35
Speaker 2: the Canaw County Board of Education.
18:36
Speaker 11: I think some of the concerns are definitely one being
18:40
Speaker 11: the Hope Scholarship and money that has gone other places,
18:44
Speaker 11: and I think we'll have to get creative with getting
18:47
Speaker 11: money's back to our county. And I think consolidation is
18:51
Speaker 11: another issue. And you know, our high schools are very
18:56
Speaker 11: large facilities and they're not all the way occupied. I
19:00
Speaker 11: think that we need to study maybe moving some of
19:03
Speaker 11: the middle schools up and then that would help with
19:08
Speaker 11: achieving more funding because the buildings would be a full capacity.
19:13
Speaker 11: That's definitely going to be an issue.
19:15
Speaker 2: So you're talking about maybe moving some of the middle
19:17
Speaker 2: schoolers into in what the high.
19:18
Speaker 11: School into the high school component that's been done in
19:22
Speaker 11: other states. I think Ford is you know, experiment with
19:26
Speaker 11: that now.
19:26
Speaker 10: Yeah.
19:26
Speaker 2: I mean some of us can remember when there was
19:28
Speaker 2: one school that was pretty much everything.
19:31
Speaker 11: Well, it would it would actually save communities, you know,
19:35
Speaker 11: because it would still be like a community based thing
19:38
Speaker 11: as well as the bus routes or you know, transportation
19:41
Speaker 11: dictates a lot in Kanak County and the bus routes
19:44
Speaker 11: would already be in place.
19:45
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, you kind of reference this, you know,
19:48
Speaker 2: the Hope Scholarship, and we go back to COVID and
19:52
Speaker 2: we had the all of the controversy over the transfer
19:56
Speaker 2: rule for students, and you know that that was actually
19:59
Speaker 2: a legislative thing, but you still had to board members
20:01
Speaker 2: still have to have at least hear about it from
20:03
Speaker 2: some people. We got all these things school consolidations due
20:06
Speaker 2: to a population loss or budgetary concerns or a combination
20:11
Speaker 2: of all. How do you navigate all those things as
20:14
Speaker 2: a board memoric because that's a lot. And no matter what,
20:17
Speaker 2: even though as I said many times, it's out of
20:19
Speaker 2: the Board of Education's hand, any board member will tell
20:21
Speaker 2: you that you still get the phone calls. So how
20:23
Speaker 2: do you navigate all that?
20:24
Speaker 11: Well, actually, I was principal at South Charleston High School
20:27
Speaker 11: of the year of COVID and we're still bouncing back
20:29
Speaker 11: from that. That was my first year as principal there.
20:33
Speaker 11: You have to navigate. You have to get very creative
20:36
Speaker 11: about how you reach the public and things like that.
20:39
Speaker 11: You have to involve the public and decision making, which
20:42
Speaker 11: is very important as far as the Hope Scholarship, and
20:47
Speaker 11: there's a lot of controversy about the Hope Scholarship. I
20:50
Speaker 11: hope that you know, as a board member, I can
20:53
Speaker 11: help explore other avenues, whether we ask for help from
20:58
Speaker 11: other organizations or large industries. I know Toyota is very
21:02
Speaker 11: helpful with a lot of things in other places as well.
21:07
Speaker 11: So you just have to look at a briadgrange. You
21:10
Speaker 11: have to get very creative and there's nothing wrong with
21:13
Speaker 11: using other research that's effective to develop a future plan.
21:19
Speaker 2: What are you hearing from parents, Kim, as you've been
21:21
Speaker 2: out on the campaign trail or maybe attending candidate forums
21:25
Speaker 2: or whatever. What do you actually hear from the parents
21:27
Speaker 2: and grandparents of students in Kanan County?
21:29
Speaker 11: Well, you know a lot of people I have encountered
21:33
Speaker 11: before and they've been very supportive of my platform and
21:37
Speaker 11: I appreciate that as well. Parents want to be informed.
21:42
Speaker 11: They want to have you know, you need to be
21:44
Speaker 11: a good steward of taxpayer dollar. They want to be
21:47
Speaker 11: involved with decision making before they're told about it. You know,
21:51
Speaker 11: it's easier if you involve people to buy into your
21:55
Speaker 11: plan before it has to go into effect. I mean,
21:58
Speaker 11: if people have vanners up in things, they feel more
22:01
Speaker 11: comfortable when items have to come down that they might
22:05
Speaker 11: not be in favor of, but it works out because
22:10
Speaker 11: you've listened. You need to listen, learn from people, and
22:14
Speaker 11: then lead with integrity. And that's my plan.
22:17
Speaker 2: You certainly, as you said or no stranger to public education.
22:21
Speaker 2: You listened at the beginning of the interview, Kim, all
22:22
Speaker 2: the things that you've done. If you are elected, do
22:24
Speaker 2: you plan on spending some time into public schools? Because
22:28
Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you, and somebody had texted
22:29
Speaker 2: about that. I'll get to that text a little bit
22:32
Speaker 2: later on. That they feel they don't see our board
22:33
Speaker 2: members inside public schools. Now, well, that may or may
22:36
Speaker 2: not be true. I'm just saying that's what somebody said.
22:38
Speaker 2: So do you plan on being an actual part of
22:40
Speaker 2: being inside the schools?
22:42
Speaker 11: Well, if anyone knows me, one hundred percent is not
22:44
Speaker 11: my speed about one hundred and ten and I'm very active,
22:49
Speaker 11: like if students had something going on, whether it was
22:52
Speaker 11: a musical or you know, a band performance or activity
22:57
Speaker 11: I was always there. So my capacity is a member
23:00
Speaker 11: would be school involvement. Get out, see what's going on
23:04
Speaker 11: before you make decisions, know your communities, know the climate,
23:09
Speaker 11: know what's going on. I'm not a set, set around person.
23:13
Speaker 11: I'm very active and actually last year my job as
23:18
Speaker 11: Title nine investigator, I visited almost every school in the
23:22
Speaker 11: county and I'm familiar with the principles. You know, I
23:26
Speaker 11: met a lot of the staff, and I think that
23:28
Speaker 11: would be welcoming as a board member to get to
23:32
Speaker 11: go do that, it would be a pleasure.
23:34
Speaker 2: I mentioned this earlier when we were talking about some
23:36
Speaker 2: of the issues facing school systems again not just in
23:38
Speaker 2: kna On Accounty, but other ones as well, and a
23:40
Speaker 2: big one this consolidation and Kim. As you well know,
23:44
Speaker 2: nobody likes to see their community school go. Nobody likes
23:46
Speaker 2: to see the school that maybe they raised their kids
23:48
Speaker 2: or possibly that they went to themselves. They don't want
23:51
Speaker 2: to see it shuttered. But it's it's a necessity. Sometimes
23:54
Speaker 2: it's a budgetary thing. Cost in many cases more to
23:57
Speaker 2: keep those schools open than it does do. They just
24:00
Speaker 2: can't justify it because you're spending more. If it were
24:02
Speaker 2: a business. It would have already been shuttered in a
24:04
Speaker 2: lot of people's opinions, How prepared are you to make
24:08
Speaker 2: those decisions should they come if you're elected to the
24:11
Speaker 2: Board of education in actuality.
24:12
Speaker 11: Out of the six elementary schools that I taught in
24:15
Speaker 11: five clothes, and I have been first hand with the
24:18
Speaker 11: pain of how painful it is not only for the educators,
24:23
Speaker 11: the students, the community. So I've already experienced the pain myself.
24:29
Speaker 11: So you have to, you know, have involvement with people.
24:32
Speaker 11: You have to explain why. If people have knowledge and
24:37
Speaker 11: you communicate with them, the key to everything is effective
24:41
Speaker 11: communication and they want to be heard. Once you hear
24:46
Speaker 11: someone and explain, you have to make those tough calls.
24:50
Speaker 11: And it's very hurtful. I mean it's probably you know,
24:53
Speaker 11: as an educator looking at those kids, know and next
24:57
Speaker 11: year we're not going to be together in the same building.
25:00
Speaker 11: That's a very hurtful thing.

Speaker 2: I don't want to go making all my magician friends upset.
31:31
Speaker 2: But but but the person does that sort of stuff
31:33
Speaker 2: and they're not rehearsing at all with the symphony ahead
31:36
Speaker 2: of time. Well, now symphony is rehearsing, of course, right,
31:40
Speaker 2: but doing it with this guy, there is no rehearsal.
31:44
Speaker 2: He doesn't want rehearsal. He just comes in and he's
31:46
Speaker 2: gonna start making stuff disappear. He's going to sew people
31:49
Speaker 2: in half and all this other stuff. So how cool
31:52
Speaker 2: is that.
31:52
Speaker 16: I've seen symphonies like here and elsewhere starting to do
31:56
Speaker 16: stuff like this where they incorporate other things. Like I
31:59
Speaker 16: just saw a real I think of a symphony somewhere
32:02
Speaker 16: who had a pro wrestling show.
32:04
Speaker 1: Going on at the same time, and it.
32:06
Speaker 16: Was almost like watching a movie like the Orchestral background,
32:09
Speaker 16: you know, music of the while these people are beating
32:12
Speaker 16: each other's brains.
32:14
Speaker 2: Do you know now that you mentioned that this was
32:17
Speaker 2: done a long time ago in Memphis and I you
32:19
Speaker 2: and I could talk old school wrestling. I'm not going
32:21
Speaker 2: to get into that. But Memphis did this, or maybe
32:23
Speaker 2: they did. It was in the old Jerry Lawler territory
32:25
Speaker 2: in Memphis. They actually did this, but I think maybe
32:28
Speaker 2: it was done after the fact. Don't know what it
32:29
Speaker 2: was like, maybe it was I don't know. Adam, I'll
32:32
Speaker 2: hook up with Adam Harris.
32:33
Speaker 1: I was gonna say, where's that Adam?
32:34
Speaker 2: The Adam will be able to tell us. Are you
32:36
Speaker 2: here with the Fest of All big event a couple
32:38
Speaker 2: of days ago press event at Black Sheep Burrito. Appreciate
32:40
Speaker 2: the invite, but that's okay, I'm kidding.
32:44
Speaker 1: We did send it in.
32:45
Speaker 2: I'm always behind the microphone, man, I'm always in this building.
32:48
Speaker 2: So you missed a good time, all right, Well it's
32:50
Speaker 2: Black Sheep Burrito. I know I missed a good time,
32:52
Speaker 2: all right. So you did tell the people that their
32:54
Speaker 2: schedule is out right?
32:55
Speaker 16: Yeah, the full ten day schedule for Festival twenty twenty
32:59
Speaker 16: six is out. Now you're going to start seeing these
33:01
Speaker 16: brochures all around town. But you can see it all
33:03
Speaker 16: right now at Festival Charleston dot com. Ten days of
33:07
Speaker 16: programming and it's just jam packed every day. It's got
33:11
Speaker 16: several things going on, and it's really something for everybody.
33:14
Speaker 2: All right, give us some examples.
33:16
Speaker 16: Well, the thing that we're very we're excited about all
33:19
Speaker 16: of it. Yeah, we're launching a brand new event this
33:21
Speaker 16: year called the Festival Family Cookout. It's going to be
33:23
Speaker 16: on Memorial Day at City Center at Slack Plaza and
33:27
Speaker 16: we're going to have live entertainment and food there in
33:32
Speaker 16: Slack Plaza, but then adjacent to that. And the idea was,
33:36
Speaker 16: you know, Memorial Day, I'm growing up in the coal
33:39
Speaker 16: fields like I did, it was decoration day, right, Decorations
33:42
Speaker 16: would go around and decorate the family's graves.
33:46
Speaker 2: And you know, they used to pile everybody in the
33:49
Speaker 2: back of a you know, nineteen seventy seven a Conna line,
33:52
Speaker 2: you know, for.
33:53
Speaker 1: Mom was a Dodge caravan. Okay, I'm there with you, and.
33:56
Speaker 2: Take them some up some holler and you know, to
34:00
Speaker 2: decorate the family.
34:01
Speaker 1: Grand and then you'd have family picnics and stuff like that.
34:03
Speaker 2: So many times at the grave site, yeah and so,
34:05
Speaker 2: which was creepy as hell.
34:06
Speaker 16: Well, but it's like the apple Agian version of the
34:09
Speaker 16: Day of the Dead if they celebrate in Mexico.
34:11
Speaker 3: It really is.
34:13
Speaker 1: This is kind of the vibe that we're going for.
34:15
Speaker 16: So we're gonna have this, you know, quaint family picnic
34:17
Speaker 16: where you can throw out a blanket and enjoy this
34:19
Speaker 16: live entertainment. But then adjacent to that, we're bringing in
34:22
Speaker 16: kind of a funky festival element with an old time side.
34:26
Speaker 1: Show, circus side show.
34:28
Speaker 16: So we're gonna have circus performers, We're gonna have bearded
34:30
Speaker 16: ladies and stuff. We don't she canceled on us, but
34:33
Speaker 16: we are going to have a magician and some an
34:38
Speaker 16: aerialist and jugglers and that kind of stuff. We're gonna
34:40
Speaker 16: have a tattoo artist because that's where you used to
34:43
Speaker 16: get tattoos at the at the carnivals. Ours will be
34:46
Speaker 16: much more hygienic than those ones. But a ten type photographer,
34:51
Speaker 16: the old timey photography vendors, their food vendors, just a
34:57
Speaker 16: really fun experience that the the whole family can enjoy
35:02
Speaker 16: their on Memorial Day. And that's what we're hoping that's
35:06
Speaker 16: we're hoping that will be the next big festival tradition.
35:09
Speaker 16: And then so that's Memorial Day. On Wednesday of that week,
35:13
Speaker 16: we also start something very exciting new this year, the
35:16
Speaker 16: Festival River Cruises. We're bringing the River Queen Stern Wheeler
35:20
Speaker 16: from Cincinnati, Ohio, bringing that back to town for the
35:23
Speaker 16: first time in six years, and they're going to be
35:25
Speaker 16: doing sight seeing tours throughout the day, but the last
35:28
Speaker 16: tour of the night, we're going to have a series
35:31
Speaker 16: of festival cruises. On Wednesday, we're going to do an
35:33
Speaker 16: episode of Three Things, which you're familiar with our Speaker series.
35:37
Speaker 16: We're going to have that on the boat cruising down
35:39
Speaker 16: the canip River on Thursday night. The Charleston Salsa Club,
35:43
Speaker 16: which usually meets over here at the Rock.
35:45
Speaker 2: I was gonna say, I thought you we gonna say
35:46
Speaker 2: what you're familiar with. I was gonna say, I'm familiar
35:48
Speaker 2: with salsa, not necessarily the dance.
35:51
Speaker 1: Not the corn chips. I want to make that clear.
35:55
Speaker 16: But they there's this Charleston Salsa Club that meets at
35:58
Speaker 16: the Rock every Thursday day. They're celebrating their tenth anniversary.
36:02
Speaker 16: They're gonna do that on the boat with live music
36:05
Speaker 16: from Kreinho and if you don't know how to sauce
36:08
Speaker 16: the dance, you can show up an hour early and
36:09
Speaker 16: we're going to have a free lesson at had Ed
36:11
Speaker 16: Riverfront Park and then you can get on the.
36:13
Speaker 2: Boat nice you'll be ready to go on to that point.
36:16
Speaker 16: Saturday night of that week, another one of these cruises
36:18
Speaker 16: were doing a Bob Thompson jazz cruise presented by the.
36:22
Speaker 2: Things that when I was doing little research for this act,
36:25
Speaker 2: that was one of the things that really appealed to
36:27
Speaker 2: me because number one, I loved Bob Thompson and I
36:28
Speaker 2: love live music, and you put him on the water.
36:31
Speaker 12: Well.
36:32
Speaker 16: Bob and I were having a conversation o God six
36:35
Speaker 16: months ago at this point, and we were trying to
36:37
Speaker 16: think of something unique. This is where this whole cruise
36:39
Speaker 16: thing the idea germinated because he was saying, you know,
36:43
Speaker 16: jazz probably first came to Charleston by riverboat. So as
36:47
Speaker 16: more freight was starting to be shipped on the railway lines,
36:50
Speaker 16: these stern wheelers were looking for other revenue streams and
36:55
Speaker 16: they started off from pleasure cruises and the very first
36:58
Speaker 16: cruise line to do that down in New Orleans hired
37:01
Speaker 16: this young trumpet player nobody had ever heard of Louis Armstrong.
37:05
Speaker 2: And that whatever happened to Yeah, whatever happened.
37:08
Speaker 16: So then there were these cruises up the Mississippi, up
37:12
Speaker 16: the Ohio into the Canal, and that's that's probably how
37:16
Speaker 16: jazz first got to Charleston. So this is like a
37:18
Speaker 16: nod to that history, but also a great time. Just
37:22
Speaker 16: you imagine cruising the Canal river on this stern wheeler
37:24
Speaker 16: with Bob Thompson and his amazing band playing, playing you
37:31
Speaker 16: all down the way, and then on Sunday we're gonna
37:34
Speaker 16: end it with a bang. We're doing an original murder
37:37
Speaker 16: mystery production called Murder on the River Queen. It's set
37:41
Speaker 16: in the nineteen twenties and it's like an immersive, interactive
37:45
Speaker 16: theater experience. So you buy a ticket and you're part
37:47
Speaker 16: of the show. No, you won't get like attacked or
37:50
Speaker 16: anything now, but you can help solve the miss.
37:52
Speaker 2: So I've got a few people i'd like to volunteer
37:54
Speaker 2: for that. Mike, Mike Pushkin, I'm just saying, I'm just saying,
37:58
Speaker 2: I'm kidding, all right, So, I mean, I mean, you
38:01
Speaker 2: guys are to be commended. I mean this is your
38:03
Speaker 2: I mean, Fest of All has always been great, Zach,
38:05
Speaker 2: but you folks are like just taking this to a
38:06
Speaker 2: whole other level and doing different things.
38:09
Speaker 16: That's the That's what we try to do because there
38:12
Speaker 16: are things about festival that people love and traditions that
38:14
Speaker 16: we've created, like the Carriage Trail Walk that they'll be
38:17
Speaker 16: happening on Sunday this Sunday, May the twenty first, I believe,
38:24
Speaker 16: or I'm sorry, the twenty fourth, and like the Capitol
38:26
Speaker 16: Street Art Fair which will be happening on May the
38:29
Speaker 16: thirtieth and thirty first. Those are crown jewels of our schedule.
38:32
Speaker 16: People expect them to come, people enjoy them, their family
38:35
Speaker 16: traditions that come down every year.
38:36
Speaker 1: And do it. So those are things you gotta do.
38:38
Speaker 16: But every year we're striving to do something different that'll
38:42
Speaker 16: get people excited about festival.
38:44
Speaker 1: Against It's not just the same old See.
38:45
Speaker 2: All right, you got so much stuff going on again,
38:47
Speaker 2: Zach Carroll to see her from my festival. The Dave

39:16
Speaker 16: plenty of times between now and then.
39:18
Speaker 2: Did you cover it all today so far?
39:19
Speaker 10: Oh?
39:19
Speaker 12: No, Man.
39:20
Speaker 16: I got this brochure that I'm looking at. It's got
39:22
Speaker 16: twenty four pages of stuff. So you'll start seeing these
39:26
Speaker 16: at businesses and travel centers and everywhere around town very soon.
39:30
Speaker 1: Pick one up and you can get it all. But
39:33
Speaker 1: I'll come back anytime.
39:34
Speaker 2: I'll have you on plenty of times to talk about
39:36
Speaker 2: it during the event and before the event. But give
39:38
Speaker 2: the people the first big thing that they need to
39:40
Speaker 2: put on their calendar.
39:40
Speaker 16: First big thing you got to put on your calendar
39:43
Speaker 16: is that Memorial Day event Monday, May the twenty fifth,
39:46
Speaker 16: the Festival Family Cookout. It's running from eleven am to
39:49
Speaker 16: three pm and come out and see this. It's going
39:52
Speaker 16: to be the tradition of tomorrow. That's what we're telling you.
39:54
Speaker 2: And Zach Carrold, the festival always a pleasure, like have
39:57
Speaker 2: you here, my friend? Thanks Alan, we'll take a break
39:59
Speaker 2: you big baseball Oh yeah, of course you are Reds fan.
40:02
Speaker 2: All right, Well, we we almost got to sweep, almost,
40:07
Speaker 2: but they dropped out.
40:08
Speaker 1: They're depending on home runs too much? Is that? Is that?
40:11
Speaker 1: That's what I think.
40:12
Speaker 16: I mean, they couldn't they couldn't get it going yesterday
40:14
Speaker 16: and then a fight almost.
40:16
Speaker 2: I saw that. I saw the highlights of that this morning. Yeah,
40:18
Speaker 2: I wonder what was said?
40:20
Speaker 1: Something you can't say on the radio. And then Spencer
40:23
Speaker 1: Steer told you to watch his mouth.
40:26
Speaker 4: Is cleared.
40:27
Speaker 2: What's your mouth? Something that you don't necessarily here every
40:30
Speaker 2: day in the world of sports. But Red's begin a
40:32
Speaker 2: weekend series against the Twins. I do believe on the road,
40:36
Speaker 2: so can catch all those games here all season long
40:39
Speaker 2: on either w CHS or on Charleston's ESPN Radio. Zach Harrold,
40:43
Speaker 2: Festival will talk to you man. Thanks a lot, appreciate.
40:45
Speaker 2: I ask you if you're a baseball fan, because we
40:46
Speaker 2: got Andy Sha, the owner of the Dirty Birds coming up.
40:49
Speaker 2: You're welcome to stick around if you want. I don't care.

Speaker 2: Getting ready for some baseball? Yes, indeed the Dirty Birds season.
42:37
Speaker 2: Actually it's there's actually activity over the ballpark right now.
42:40
Speaker 2: I understand that Andy Shafe and the Dirty Birds here. Hey,
42:42
Speaker 2: do man appreciate it? Appreciate man? You know it's it's awesome.
42:46
Speaker 2: It's like our first kind of Grand Slam school day.
42:48
Speaker 2: It's an exhibition game that our guys have going on.
42:51
Speaker 2: But it's always it is so cool seeing school buses
42:55
Speaker 2: outside the ballpark.
42:56
Speaker 1: And just flowing with kids and.
42:58
Speaker 2: What time it's the first pitch o there is and
43:01
Speaker 2: how many school groups do you have you and do
43:02
Speaker 2: you have any.
43:03
Speaker 17: IDM, Well, I know it's like about fifteen hundred kids.
43:05
Speaker 17: I can't remember how many schools. But yeah, so this
43:08
Speaker 17: is this is kind of like our kickoff, and yeah,
43:11
Speaker 17: I mean it's just so awesome. Always the sun is
43:13
Speaker 17: way out and yeah, last summer out there.
43:16
Speaker 1: It's nuts.
43:17
Speaker 17: I mean, you drive in it was overcast and cool
43:19
Speaker 17: and then forty five minutes looking for air conditioning.
43:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's definitely going to be hot over the weekend,
43:25
Speaker 2: Meteorologist Brian Hughes tells me until the storms roll in
43:28
Speaker 2: late late tomorrow, hopefully all right to get the home
43:31
Speaker 2: run derby going on tomorrow, any talk about that we do.
43:33
Speaker 1: It's awesome.
43:34
Speaker 17: It's the third time we've done this, and it's I mean,
43:36
Speaker 17: it's just such a fun event. I think the fans
43:38
Speaker 17: absolutely love it. I know for sure the players absolutely
43:41
Speaker 17: love it. So gates open at five, all of the
43:45
Speaker 17: festivities and activities on the field will begin a little
43:48
Speaker 17: after six, and along with our third home run derby,
43:51
Speaker 17: we're gonna have our first ever bunting competition as well
43:56
Speaker 17: as our first ever throwing accuracy competition.
43:59
Speaker 2: Okay, so it's fun.
44:01
Speaker 17: You know, we just wanted to add some more stuff,
44:03
Speaker 17: have some more of the players involved. You know, you
44:06
Speaker 17: always kind of hear the chirping of either the pitchers
44:09
Speaker 17: or the you know, maybe utility guys saying I need
44:12
Speaker 17: a little love too, So we'll have a little fun
44:14
Speaker 17: out there.
44:15
Speaker 2: All right, thank you one.
44:16
Speaker 1: How does a bunt in competition work?
44:18
Speaker 17: It's gonna well, so, I mean, it's primarily accuracy. We've
44:21
Speaker 17: got to make sure that it's getting in the right spot.
44:23
Speaker 17: But which is funny, not to go down a total
44:26
Speaker 17: rabbit hole, but it is kind of a bit of
44:27
Speaker 17: a lost art in the in the world of launch
44:31
Speaker 17: angle and home runs, you don't see a lot of bunts,
44:34
Speaker 17: so it should be pretty funny.
44:35
Speaker 2: Again, we're talking Andy Shade, the owner of the Charleston
44:39
Speaker 2: Dirty Birds, and the home run derby again starts at
44:41
Speaker 2: one time.
44:43
Speaker 17: The gates open at five and all of our fun
44:45
Speaker 17: and festivities start kicking off right around six o'clock tomorrow night.
44:48
Speaker 2: We had a text that any plans to bring back
44:49
Speaker 2: the Savannah Bananas. That would be a great Grand Slam
44:52
Speaker 2: school day. I mean, you know what happened last time
44:55
Speaker 2: you brought the bananas in. I mean it went bananas
44:57
Speaker 2: in this town and the people went crazy and sold
44:59
Speaker 2: out tickets. I mean it's they were big then, they're
45:02
Speaker 2: even bigger now.
45:03
Speaker 1: Andy, Oh, trust me.
45:04
Speaker 17: I mean when when I first booked them, it was
45:06
Speaker 17: before I had the opportunity to move here, So I
45:08
Speaker 17: moved here a few a few months after booking them,
45:10
Speaker 17: and a few months before the game. And even in
45:13
Speaker 17: that time period, they went from oh this is pretty cool,
45:16
Speaker 17: this is pretty popular to just you know, the talk
45:19
Speaker 17: of the baseball worlds.
45:21
Speaker 1: Let alone everywhere they were going.
45:23
Speaker 17: So always plans to have them back, I assure you,
45:25
Speaker 17: in some former fashion, whether it's the literal bananas or
45:29
Speaker 17: more than likely the party animals or firefighters, one of
45:32
Speaker 17: the kind of teams that are with them. As it
45:35
Speaker 17: currently stands, the bananas are in NFL stadiums and places
45:39
Speaker 17: that are like fifty thousand plus literally, So.
45:42
Speaker 2: Getting with Savannah Bananas right now, I mean, to be
45:45
Speaker 2: honest with you, to use an analogy would be like
45:48
Speaker 2: let's book Taylor Swift.
45:50
Speaker 17: I mean, I mean that's I mean, and I think
45:52
Speaker 17: from a you know, kind of from a business standpoint,
45:54
Speaker 17: you need the venue for that. Yeah, I mean I
45:56
Speaker 17: think you know, so, I mean, I think WV foot
46:00
Speaker 17: Ball would be more of the one you know in
46:02
Speaker 17: line for Savannah Bananas. But I've been friends with the
46:05
Speaker 17: guy who created it for years, so we always have
46:07
Speaker 17: a great relationship and I have no doubts that sooner
46:10
Speaker 17: or later, hopefully sooner, that the Bananas organization will be
46:15
Speaker 17: back in Charleston.
46:16
Speaker 2: Talk about last minute preparations for your home opener, WHI
46:19
Speaker 2: would be Tuesday night.
46:20
Speaker 17: Well, I've been sweating for the last hour and a
46:22
Speaker 17: half because no one everyone is doing everything all the time.
46:26
Speaker 17: So it's awesome because it's a little bit of everything.
46:28
Speaker 17: It's getting the stadium ready, and then it's the stuff
46:31
Speaker 17: that's kind of you know, for lack of better words,
46:33
Speaker 17: the under the hood stuff, whether that's plumbing, HVAC, electric lights.
46:38
Speaker 17: But then I mean, we've got some ridiculously fun stuff
46:41
Speaker 17: that we're adding. My wife is so creative, so talented,
46:45
Speaker 17: and she has taken our mini golf course to the
46:47
Speaker 17: next level. I mean, I am so proud of that.
46:50
Speaker 17: So our mini golf course is gonna be awesome. We've
46:52
Speaker 17: got bumper cars at the field. We've got with M
46:55
Speaker 17: and M Party Central, We've got the coolest kids area
46:59
Speaker 17: that as far as I know, that's ever been at
47:01
Speaker 17: the ballpark. And then by all means putting together another
47:04
Speaker 17: team that we want to take to another championship.
47:06
Speaker 2: You know, uh, I do want to say this that
47:08
Speaker 2: you may be thinking bumper cars. Well, last night, the
47:12
Speaker 2: Dirty Birds co hosted a business after hours event with
47:15
Speaker 2: the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. I was there last night.
47:17
Speaker 2: I got to hang out with Rob Blackstone a little
47:19
Speaker 2: bit and uh uh, Christian Palmer, I met him last
47:22
Speaker 2: night for the first time. We were over Valley Park,
47:24
Speaker 2: over my neck of the Woods, over Putnam County last night,
47:27
Speaker 2: and when Rod, when the toast Man was given his speech,
47:30
Speaker 2: he talked about the bumper cars, and people were like,
47:33
Speaker 2: bumper car, this is kind of left over from like
47:35
Speaker 2: to night. I guess right, come on, now.
47:38
Speaker 17: Leftover is like a negative work. These are awesome cars.
47:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly. You know, stufas not.
47:47
Speaker 2: Left up holdover.
47:48
Speaker 17: I mean you you kept repurposed that awesome yes, because
47:52
Speaker 17: you know the So we did get them initially for
47:56
Speaker 17: the ice rink and for late the night, and they
47:58
Speaker 17: were so popular. But the quote unquote problem I guess
48:02
Speaker 17: is that it probably wouldn't be perfect having them this
48:04
Speaker 17: on the ice at the same time as skating. Yeah,
48:07
Speaker 17: I mean that might be a different activity.
48:09
Speaker 12: Wrong.
48:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, So what we've really been thinking.
48:12
Speaker 2: About I've been Selango attorney. Yeah, yeah, I got a
48:16
Speaker 2: good idea for you.
48:17
Speaker 17: All that makes sense now, So we thought, you know,
48:19
Speaker 17: so we were like, wait, but the reality is is
48:21
Speaker 17: that the couple of hours each weekend day that the
48:25
Speaker 17: bumper cars were available, people absolutely.
48:27
Speaker 1: Loved them, and I mean it was as packed as
48:29
Speaker 1: it could be.
48:30
Speaker 17: So we were like, man, we've got to figure out
48:31
Speaker 17: a way to utilize these year round and so that
48:34
Speaker 17: more people can have the opportunity to use them. So,
48:37
Speaker 17: you know, I'm really pumped about the the bumper car
48:40
Speaker 17: rink that we have four dirty birds and it is
48:43
Speaker 17: free for everyone to use in six or seven minute increments.
48:48
Speaker 2: And we do want to mention too that if you've
48:49
Speaker 2: got some sort of an activity coming up, maybe a
48:52
Speaker 2: birthday party, company outing, those are very popular during baseball
48:55
Speaker 2: season and you're looking for a different place to do
48:58
Speaker 2: it other you know, we don't want to go set
48:59
Speaker 2: around a conference table again, you know, or and order
49:02
Speaker 2: pizzas or whatever. Look up Gomart Ballpark man.
49:05
Speaker 17: Absolutely, I mean, you know, I'm certainly biased, but I've
49:08
Speaker 17: got a four and seven year old and when they're
49:10
Speaker 17: there with their friends or for birthday parties, I mean,
49:13
Speaker 17: from a dad perspective, it is so awesome because there
49:16
Speaker 17: is never a shortage of things to do and.
49:19
Speaker 2: It gives dad a break a little bit and they
49:22
Speaker 2: get a chance to watch the game.
49:23
Speaker 17: I mean, that's what's so awesome is that it's you know,
49:27
Speaker 17: everyone can have fun with it. And from the business side,
49:29
Speaker 17: we certainly try and make it as turnkey as humanly possible.
49:32
Speaker 1: So if you.
49:33
Speaker 17: Decide to have whether your child's birthday, your birthday, or
49:36
Speaker 17: your company outing there, you know our goal is to
49:39
Speaker 17: make it as easy as humanly possible for you.
49:41
Speaker 2: Again, we're talking Andy Shape from the Dirty Birds. And
49:44
Speaker 2: we do want to mention that March fifth, WV and
49:46
Speaker 2: Marshall are playing at Gomart Ballpark.
49:48
Speaker 1: Better get those tickets. Absolutely, I mean there are a.
49:51
Speaker 17: Few left, but that event is so fun it is.
49:55
Speaker 2: And today it just happens. I'm wearing the Marshall polo
49:58
Speaker 2: and breaking out of the Marshall coffee game because I'm Marshall
50:00
Speaker 2: to the core. The my Thundering Hurt needs to get
50:03
Speaker 2: it in gear in this series because WVU one in Morgantown,
50:06
Speaker 2: WVU one in Huntington and Jack cook Field and so
50:10
Speaker 2: now's the time for my Thundering Herd to step it up.
50:12
Speaker 17: Well, I mean, the thing that was so cool about
50:13
Speaker 17: last year is that, first of all, it was a
50:15
Speaker 17: beautiful night. It was a literal record baseball crowd at
50:19
Speaker 17: the ballpark of the twenty years that the ballpark's been there.
50:22
Speaker 17: But the cherry on top was that it was an
50:23
Speaker 17: amazing baseball game and Marshall won it at the end.
50:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a good game. Like you want to
50:28
Speaker 2: you want to wait on anything.
50:29
Speaker 1: I'm getting my tickets. That says great, good.
50:33
Speaker 2: All right, So the home run derby again is tomorrow.
50:36
Speaker 2: We're keeping a close eye to weather. We're gonna We're
50:38
Speaker 2: gonna say the bad weather is going to be.
50:40
Speaker 1: Like home runs will bring the thunder.
50:41
Speaker 10: Yeah.
50:42
Speaker 17: The other than that, we're gonna be clear, it's gonna
50:44
Speaker 17: beautiful at the ballpark.
50:45
Speaker 1: What's the winner of the home run derby get bragging rights.
50:48
Speaker 1: Bragging rights.
50:49
Speaker 17: They have a ridiculously sweet championship belt this year, like
50:53
Speaker 17: a wrestling belt.
50:54
Speaker 1: Yes, it is, it is.
50:55
Speaker 17: Suddenly you've got it is well, and then we've got
50:58
Speaker 17: a fun one. So the home run derby winner will
51:00
Speaker 17: get a really nice, big, like kind of legit heavy
51:04
Speaker 17: champion belt. And then we've got a nice, cute, little,
51:07
Speaker 17: maybe slightly bigger than a watch belt for the bunting
51:11
Speaker 17: competition and throwing competition.
51:13
Speaker 1: That makes we're having fun.
51:14
Speaker 2: That makes sense. And again, dirty birds is a base
51:17
Speaker 2: of dirty birds baseball dot com check out you guys
51:20
Speaker 2: do a great job on your website and your social media.
51:22

Speaker 2: a go mort the ballpark. And again at all it's
51:26
Speaker 2: actually getting underway with this with with the kids over
51:28
Speaker 2: there now. But the big event is tomorrow home run derby.
51:31

51:50

52:00

Speaker 17: run Derby. Get in the first look at that because
52:06

52:10

52:11
