- 0:00Speaker 1: And Football at Forest powered by the Inside of the
- 0:01Speaker 1: Birds podcast. It has brought you by the Fanatic sportsbook
- 0:04Speaker 1: here at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. It's our
- 0:06Speaker 1: final show at Ocean this season, and we will be
- 0:11Speaker 1: back next season for the football season. But the Super
- 0:13Speaker 1: Bowl last night, that means it's our final Monday here
- 0:17Speaker 1: for the twenty twenty five football season, which is in
- 0:20Speaker 1: the books. But the Football at four rolls on as
- 0:23Speaker 1: we focus now on the off season for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 0:27Speaker 1: It is officially here. Jeff Bocher from the Inside the
- 0:30Speaker 1: Birds podcast at Phillyvoice dot Com is back with us.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We missed you last week. We did try to get
- 0:35Speaker 1: Moshaw on one of the days during Radio Row, but
- 0:38Speaker 1: Adam was great. Greg Cosell stepped in and did a
- 0:42Speaker 1: fantastic job as part of our Football at four roundtable.
- 0:45Speaker 1: The one day we had Brian Hoyer, who was really
- 0:48Speaker 1: really insightful and good. It's good to have you back, though,
- 0:51Speaker 1: mosh what's up man?
- 0:52Speaker 2: That's up man? How long has it been since you've
- 0:54Speaker 2: been in your studio?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Right? I am well again, I'm actually and then Thursday
- 1:00Speaker 1: leaving for Egypt, I'm out of here.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Egypt. My gosh, you're a traveling man.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Well, after the Super Bowl, you need to recharge the
- 1:07Speaker 1: battery a little bit to get ready for the offseason.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Because the Sixers are on the All Star break and
- 1:12Speaker 1: the Flyers are on the Olympic break here, so there's
- 1:15Speaker 1: not a whole heck of a lot going on, but
- 1:17Speaker 1: there is a lot with the Eagles last week. First off,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I want to get your perspective on the Jeff Garcia story,
- 1:24Speaker 1: which I found very interesting here because there is a
- 1:27Speaker 1: lot into it. If you listen to the Garcia interview,
- 1:30Speaker 1: he actually had some very insightful things to say about
- 1:32Speaker 1: Hurtz and some of the things that he would like
- 1:35Speaker 1: to work on with herts Now, he tells me that
- 1:38Speaker 1: he is called Nick and offered to coach, and he
- 1:41Speaker 1: doesn't like the way He then re offered to the
- 1:45Speaker 1: conversation a second time, that he has offered and called
- 1:49Speaker 1: Howie and Nick and never heard anything back. You write
- 1:53Speaker 1: the article at Philly Voice about this, so it obviously
- 1:55Speaker 1: caught your attention, like, oh, this is kind of interesting.
- 1:58Speaker 1: The Eagles. Did they reach out to you and say
- 2:01Speaker 1: this is a great story, Jeff. However, that never happened.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, so that did happen like that? First of all,
- 2:09Speaker 2: I watched the interview. It was a great interview, guys,
- 2:11Speaker 2: did he was very energetic. I remember texting either you
- 2:15Speaker 2: or Kaplan that maybe maybe Jeff needs to switch to
- 2:19Speaker 2: decaf because you know, he starts off the well how
- 2:21Speaker 2: did he start to like yeah Garcia seven, Yeah, yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 2: I'm like, what's going on with this guy? But you know,
- 2:27Speaker 2: I wanted to watch the video Mike along with it
- 2:30Speaker 2: because I wanted to make sure when in those two
- 2:33Speaker 2: times he referenced that he mentioned he'd like to help
- 2:36Speaker 2: that he wasn't just saying a tongue in cheek or
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know. You know sometimes you can tell by look
- 2:41Speaker 2: on someone's face if they're they're kidding or not. You know,
- 2:44Speaker 2: he was smiling, but he did he seems serious about it.
- 2:46Speaker 2: And then when he repeated it twice, Yeah, I thought, well,
- 2:49Speaker 2: this is an interesting story. He's offering to help out now.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Well, and he also not only did he offer the information,
- 2:57Speaker 1: he said he didn't like the way that it's been handled.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So that's not tongue in cheek him saying it's not
- 3:02Speaker 1: like the way it's been Hey, that's him saying I've
- 3:04Speaker 1: offered and they haven't been they haven't reciprocated.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and so right that that struck me as odd.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And here's where I failed as a journalist. And I'll
- 3:14Speaker 2: admit when I make a mistake. When I wrote that story,
- 3:18Speaker 2: you know, anytime, I'm still old school. I mean, I
- 3:21Speaker 2: know a lot of people do it differently, but anytime
- 3:23Speaker 2: someone Levy's an accusation against someone else, you should get
- 3:26Speaker 2: the other side of the story. And I was going
- 3:28Speaker 2: to reach out to the Eagles to get to let
- 3:31Speaker 2: them know I was writing this and get their response
- 3:34Speaker 2: and why they wouldn't talk to Jeff or just verify
- 3:38Speaker 2: that this has happened. But I didn't, So that's on me.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I fell into the microwave journalism aggregation mold, and I
- 3:44Speaker 2: was really upset with myself when I did get a
- 3:47Speaker 2: text from a spokesperson from the Egle. And by the
- 3:50Speaker 2: way I thought about it, the reason why I didn't
- 3:52Speaker 2: was because all the Jeff Stoutland stuff was going on,
- 3:54Speaker 2: and I thought, there's no way they're going to give
- 3:57Speaker 2: too you know what about what Jeff Garcia says a
- 4:00Speaker 2: day where they're getting slammed for the Jeff Stalton stuff.
- 4:03Speaker 2: But that doesn't matter. I should have reached out, they
- 4:06Speaker 2: texted me. I got a text from a spokesperson from
- 4:08Speaker 2: the organization, which is good, which means they're reading our
- 4:11Speaker 2: stuff and listening to your ear reviews and things, and
- 4:14Speaker 2: they said, hey, can you please present to us our
- 4:17Speaker 2: side of the story here? And our side is Howie
- 4:20Speaker 2: or Nick have no recollection of Jeff raging out to
- 4:25Speaker 2: them at all in any capacity about a job or
- 4:30Speaker 2: to helping out Sean Mannion. And I responded that yes, absolutely,
- 4:35Speaker 2: I would revise and update the story, which I did
- 4:37Speaker 2: and reflected their side of the story. And again for
- 4:40Speaker 2: people listening, like I take full responsibility. I know it's
- 4:43Speaker 2: not that big of a deal, but it is to
- 4:45Speaker 2: me because nowadays you can just update a revise. The
- 4:49Speaker 2: old days newspapers you couldn't. You disr correction or you
- 4:52Speaker 2: would just rewrite a story. But I should have gotten
- 4:54Speaker 2: their side of the story before I went and published
- 4:57Speaker 2: a story. But nonetheless we got it in there and
- 4:59Speaker 2: they have no idea what Jeff was talking about if
- 5:02Speaker 2: you ask them.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Okay, So that being said, Garcia did offer that he
- 5:06Speaker 1: thought he could get more out of Jalen Hurts, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: he offered that he's missing the first read, and that
- 5:12Speaker 1: is one of the things we've constantly talked about with him,
- 5:15Speaker 1: is that there are plays to be made, and it
- 5:18Speaker 1: seems that he misses a lot, and it's usually these short,
- 5:21Speaker 1: intermediate things that it's just him saying, you know what,
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'll live to fight another down, dump it to you,
- 5:27Speaker 1: let you kind of run off. I thought that was
- 5:29Speaker 1: a very informative observation by Garcia of what he would
- 5:34Speaker 1: try to get out of Jalen Hurts. Would you concur.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I would call that confirmation bias, right.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I mean, this is something that we've talked about on
- 5:43Speaker 2: inside the tape with Greg Cosel, that other quarterbacks who
- 5:47Speaker 2: watch tape talk about all the time. It's not any
- 5:51Speaker 2: kind of suggestion that he's a bad quarterback or not
- 5:53Speaker 2: one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, but that
- 5:55Speaker 2: there are plays left on the field that could be
- 5:59Speaker 2: made that would make it easier on him and the
- 6:01Speaker 2: offense if he did it. But the one thing where
- 6:05Speaker 2: I would counter with Jeff said is that Jeff is
- 6:08Speaker 2: sort of implying without saying it, that this can be
- 6:12Speaker 2: coached into him, and I would say that's that would
- 6:16Speaker 2: be an implication that you know a guy like whether
- 6:19Speaker 2: it's Scott Loffler or Kevin Patulo or Kellen Moore or
- 6:24Speaker 2: Brian Johnson. You know, I mean, it almost insinuates that
- 6:27Speaker 2: those guys either didn't do it or didn't do a
- 6:29Speaker 2: good enough job and Jeff could now. Jeff played the position,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and you can roll it when you play the position
- 6:36Speaker 2: a little bit more so. I mean Scott Loffler played
- 6:39Speaker 2: the position, but not obviously not you know, a high
- 6:41Speaker 2: level NFL.
- 6:42Speaker 1: But I don't.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I don't think this is something that the Eagles have
- 6:44Speaker 2: not worked with with Jalen on.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Jeff Boscher from the Inside the Birch podcast, Football at
- 6:50Speaker 1: for Philly. All Right, so let's look at some of
- 6:53Speaker 1: the things that happened now that the dust to settle
- 6:55Speaker 1: Super Bowls here. AJ Brown last week on the Micah
- 6:58Speaker 1: Parts's podcast seemed pretty open and happy with the situation
- 7:04Speaker 1: and did it feel like he is ready to move
- 7:07Speaker 1: on from this season and focus on the next season ahead?
- 7:11Speaker 1: Are you buying that? Aj Brown seems pretty content and
- 7:14Speaker 1: happy to remain here in Philly.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I mean, he certainly took the high road in a
- 7:19Speaker 2: way that he doesn't normally do when he's wearing the
- 7:22Speaker 2: East Jersey, which is a little strange.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I will offer geberal Fast that Scott Rason was with
- 7:28Speaker 1: us all week, as he always is. He did ask
- 7:30Speaker 1: Aj for a comment and he declined. He said, I
- 7:33Speaker 1: am not doing any media, so he would not answer
- 7:36Speaker 1: questions to the local media. More so, Hey, I got
- 7:40Speaker 1: a player here, I know I'm not gonna get grilled.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Right that interview. I don't know if you watched the
- 7:45Speaker 2: entire podcast, So it was pretty funny because Aja didn't
- 7:48Speaker 2: talk a whole lot, and he would he kind of
- 7:51Speaker 2: like he had humorous things to say about Micah Parsons
- 7:54Speaker 2: and Bryce Young, which was pretty funny. But I would
- 7:59Speaker 2: say I've seen this situation with players Eagles and non
- 8:03Speaker 2: Eagles occur way too much, where the organization and the
- 8:07Speaker 2: player agree to play night with each other while they
- 8:10Speaker 2: work things out, and sometimes working things out means facilitating
- 8:14Speaker 2: a trade, and the last thing that would help AJ
- 8:16Speaker 2: Brown or the Eagles facilitate that trade would be the
- 8:19Speaker 2: appearance of bad blood and allowing the NFL to know
- 8:22Speaker 2: that you can just have Aj Brown because the Eagles
- 8:24Speaker 2: are so desperate to get rid of him. So I
- 8:28Speaker 2: don't want to make too much of it. We'll have
- 8:30Speaker 2: to see what happens. I think that the decision isn't
- 8:32Speaker 2: just AJ's, is also the Eagles, and obviously there will
- 8:36Speaker 2: be some input with the new coaching staff too.
- 8:38Speaker 1: All right, so the new coaching staff today, they finished
- 8:42Speaker 1: up with the offensive line coach and a new run
- 8:45Speaker 1: game coordinator last week, Jeff Staalin is of course out there.
- 8:49Speaker 1: How big of a move really is that? We talked
- 8:51Speaker 1: to Cooper Dejen, We talked to Read blanksit, we talked
- 8:53Speaker 1: to Nakobe Dean. They were all very surprised. This crosses
- 8:59Speaker 1: over both sides of the ball, the impact that Stalin had.
- 9:02Speaker 1: But this could actually impact the offense moving forward. But
- 9:06Speaker 1: is it a signe Jeff, that they are ready to
- 9:10Speaker 1: change the scheme and philosophy of their offense.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Absolutely? I mean this guy Chris Cooper that I pronounce that, yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 2: Chris Cooper. He comes from Minnesota. You know, man Yon
- 9:21Speaker 2: was there a couple of times as a practice squad
- 9:24Speaker 2: guy mostly, and that's where Kubiak was Clint Kubiak, and
- 9:30Speaker 2: when when Manu was there, Gary Kubiak was there and
- 9:33Speaker 2: Kevin O'Connell is there now, it's all it's all tied
- 9:35Speaker 2: to the similar tree, right, the O'Connell, McVeigh, Shanahan, Kubiak,
- 9:40Speaker 2: all that offense. So, uh, this is a guy who
- 9:43Speaker 2: can come in and with four years of experience coaching,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and it's hard right now, Mike, it is exceptionally hard
- 9:50Speaker 2: in the offseason to get experienced coaches, all right, coaches
- 9:55Speaker 2: that can come in, especially position coaches. He's sometimes you'll
- 9:58Speaker 2: see guys come in and they were an assistant disc
- 10:01Speaker 2: or a wide receivers coach and you're asked when to
- 10:03Speaker 2: coach a different position. He has coached the offensive line,
- 10:06Speaker 2: so he will be well versed in how to teach
- 10:10Speaker 2: the wide zone if that's what they want to run,
- 10:12Speaker 2: the outside zone that you normally see in those offenses.
- 10:15Speaker 2: So that's a good thing. The only the drawback is
- 10:18Speaker 2: while he was the O line coach in Minnesota, their
- 10:21Speaker 2: online wasn't very good. It was up and down, and
- 10:23Speaker 2: he wasn't retained. I mean, that's why he's available because
- 10:26Speaker 2: he's essentially fired. Because when you're not renewed, when your
- 10:29Speaker 2: contract's up, it means your organization wants to move on
- 10:32Speaker 2: from you. So that's not ideal.
- 10:34Speaker 1: He worked with Fangio and Denver.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know we can't compare Cooper and Fangio.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So absolutely listen, absolutely just try to And by the way,
- 10:45Speaker 1: was a coach in Minnesota when met so there are
- 10:48Speaker 1: some crossover there as well. But that's, to me is
- 10:51Speaker 1: the big story. Motion.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Wait, were you saying that Cooper coach? I mean Cooper
- 10:55Speaker 2: was with the Broncos when Fango was the head coach there,
- 10:57Speaker 2: because okay, I thought you were. You were of making
- 11:00Speaker 2: an analogy. How big Fango is available because he was
- 11:02Speaker 2: fired or he wasn't renewed by the Dolphins.
- 11:05Speaker 1: No, he was on Fangio's staff in Denver when Fangio
- 11:08Speaker 1: got fired. That's why he got let go from Denver
- 11:11Speaker 1: and ended up I guess in Minnesota or maybe Miami.
- 11:14Speaker 1: He's been in Miami and Minnesota. But that being said,
- 11:17Speaker 1: he has some cross over there. But that being said,
- 11:19Speaker 1: I think the biggest part of this is two things.
- 11:21Speaker 1: One does it insinuate and indicate that the Eagles are saying, look,
- 11:25Speaker 1: our offense is going to be different, and Jeff Stoutlin
- 11:28Speaker 1: was not gonna get in the way of that. And
- 11:30Speaker 1: we had to make a tough decision, and that's what
- 11:31Speaker 1: happened there too. That right now, the you know, the
- 11:39Speaker 1: fact of the matter is that the Eagles are going
- 11:42Speaker 1: to change what their offense looks like. That is seems
- 11:45Speaker 1: to be very apparent here, so that Stoutland wasn't gonna
- 11:48Speaker 1: get in the way of it if they had to
- 11:49Speaker 1: make a tough decision and they are now going to
- 11:52Speaker 1: look a lot different and Stotland not being here, what
- 11:56Speaker 1: does that mean for Lane Johnson's future? And then potentially
- 11:59Speaker 1: landed Dickerson because Lane might say, look, he's the only
- 12:02Speaker 1: offensive line coach I've ever played for. I don't need
- 12:04Speaker 1: to learn a new technique from some other JABBRONI and
- 12:08Speaker 1: landa Dickerson. His might be more body, but he might
- 12:11Speaker 1: also say, look, my body can't handle it, and I
- 12:13Speaker 1: don't want to learn a whole new scheme and everything. Maybe,
- 12:15Speaker 1: So do you think the domino effect could be huge changes?
- 12:20Speaker 2: Let's let's go to the first part of your question first,
- 12:22Speaker 2: because Adam Kaplan on our podcast has been very adamant
- 12:26Speaker 2: about this. The Eagles did not soft fire Jeff Stealtlin.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Jeff Staltlin was offered to stay on the staff. He
- 12:35Speaker 2: decided that he would not like to stay on the
- 12:39Speaker 2: staff as.
- 12:39Speaker 1: An offensive line coach, not as the run game coordinator.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Correct, we don't know exactly what position he was offered,
- 12:46Speaker 2: but he was offered to be on the staff, and
- 12:47Speaker 2: I imagine it would have been something offensive line relative.
- 12:51Speaker 2: But yeah, he's not. He decided not to. So, So
- 12:55Speaker 2: to your point number one, it's not necessarily showing more
- 12:59Speaker 2: than commitment commit committed to that skin. The hiring of
- 13:03Speaker 2: Kop shows you that they're committed to to bringing in
- 13:06Speaker 2: a new scheme and he's well versed in that scheme.
- 13:09Speaker 2: And then number two, I think that what you're asking
- 13:11Speaker 2: is very pertinent issue here. It's not just about the
- 13:14Speaker 2: three guys you mentioned, but in generals, if you take
- 13:17Speaker 2: the scheme out of it, Stetland's greatest strength was his
- 13:21Speaker 2: ability to develop all kinds of talent. To see talent
- 13:25Speaker 2: in guys that others did not, to see a Jordan
- 13:28Speaker 2: Mylatta and say I can mold him into a left
- 13:31Speaker 2: tackle upper echelon one. To see Mackai Beckton and say
- 13:34Speaker 2: I can move him to guard and he'll succeed there. Right,
- 13:38Speaker 2: So this new coach, he might be able to teach
- 13:41Speaker 2: the scheme all right, but I mean it's hard to
- 13:43Speaker 2: believe he'll be able to develop talent the way Jeff
- 13:48Speaker 2: Staltlin has in the past, so that will be difficult.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And you're right if Lane Johnson and if Landon Dickerson
- 13:55Speaker 2: both decide that this is not for them. I you know,
- 13:57Speaker 2: I think if Lane's healthy, he's got his total of money,
- 14:00Speaker 2: I mean, and most professional athletes don't want to go
- 14:02Speaker 2: out that way. So I would without any knowledge or
- 14:06Speaker 2: anything or looking into it, I would I would think
- 14:08Speaker 2: he'd want to come back if he's working hard to
- 14:10Speaker 2: come back, But you never know. Landon digatte you can
- 14:12Speaker 2: get it, you can understand if the body is just
- 14:14Speaker 2: too meet up.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I thought. Another thing. Scott Reeson talked to Brandon Graham.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Brandy Graham sounds as if if Hallie will take him back,
- 14:23Speaker 1: he wants to play again.
- 14:25Speaker 2: I mean, he clearly didn't want to retire. I mean,
- 14:27Speaker 2: I think that that that was obvious by how quickly
- 14:29Speaker 2: he was just waiting for the Eagles to like, you know,
- 14:32Speaker 2: hit the batman button, which they did right after Darius
- 14:38Speaker 2: Smith quit like what week six six seven, So like
- 14:40Speaker 2: that that was that was pretty telltale how fast Brandon
- 14:44Speaker 2: came back and and how well he played on such
- 14:46Speaker 2: limited snaps. It's hard to It's hard to when you
- 14:50Speaker 2: dominate your position, it's hard to just walk away, you know.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I running backs do it. Tiki Barber did it right.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Sometimes like a linebacker like Chris Borlan from the Niners.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I remember he gave up pretty quick, but that's injury related.
- 15:03Speaker 2: But Brandon, you know, outside of the torn tri steps,
- 15:06Speaker 2: he's generally kept himself pretty healthy for the last eight
- 15:09Speaker 2: or nine years, and you can't argue with the production.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Well, it sounds as if if the Eagles are willing,
- 15:14Speaker 1: he would like to come back. That was something that
- 15:16Speaker 1: he told us down there. Nikobe Dean also offered that
- 15:19Speaker 1: he would like to come back. He was pretty adamant
- 15:21Speaker 1: about that. What are the chances of that happening? In
- 15:25Speaker 1: your mind?
- 15:26Speaker 2: Well, let's see what he says when he gets offered,
- 15:29Speaker 2: you know, money from other teams.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Well, he didn't say he was excited about the free
- 15:33Speaker 1: agent process, but he definitely wants to go back. And
- 15:38Speaker 1: I asked him, do you think you can coexist with
- 15:40Speaker 1: the guys and he said, we did this year. And
- 15:42Speaker 1: I was like, well, you did, and Bond did, but
- 15:45Speaker 1: Campbell really did not. So Peoy brought up an interesting
- 15:47Speaker 1: point of you bring Dean back and then have Campbell
- 15:52Speaker 1: and Dean take over once Bond finished, you know, because Bond,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I guess contract will be coming up, you know, at
- 15:57Speaker 1: the end of next year.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So you bring Bonn and what you bring, how does
- 16:04Speaker 2: that work? You still got your three guys.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Right, exactly, But basically it's Dean and Bond this year
- 16:10Speaker 1: and then the following year Bonn would be out and
- 16:14Speaker 1: Campbell replaced.
- 16:14Speaker 2: It's hard for a You can do it kind of
- 16:16Speaker 2: with a second round pick. Maybe it was hard to
- 16:18Speaker 2: make a first round pick wait two years because you
- 16:22Speaker 2: ideally want to extend that guy if you identify him
- 16:25Speaker 2: as part of your core after year three, right, So
- 16:28Speaker 2: you're only giving yourself one year to get that full
- 16:31Speaker 2: value then out of John Campbell after drafted him in
- 16:34Speaker 2: the first round.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, listen, I don't I don't see a scenario where
- 16:38Speaker 1: Nakobe Deane is back. However, he was pretty important play
- 16:41Speaker 1: for this defense. I mean, as well as Campbell played.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I think you could say that it was obviously it
- 16:46Speaker 1: Vic felt that Dean was that much better that Campbell
- 16:49Speaker 1: had no role once Dean came back. And by the way,
- 16:53Speaker 1: Nakoby did offer to us that he thought he was
- 16:56Speaker 1: ready to play by the third week.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean, listen, how important was Bill Williams
- 17:02Speaker 2: to the Eagles defense the year before and important to
- 17:05Speaker 2: the Patriots defense this year. But they had a replacement plan.
- 17:09Speaker 2: They have to put money in other areas, and I
- 17:12Speaker 2: would think that it'll be tough to let him walk,
- 17:15Speaker 2: but they will as a defense be able to be
- 17:17Speaker 2: They'll be all right.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Read. Blanket Ship was the other guy that we saw
- 17:21Speaker 1: and talked to down there. He obviously would like to
- 17:23Speaker 1: come back. Do you think there will be a big
- 17:25Speaker 1: market for Blanket Ship big one?
- 17:29Speaker 2: No, but it might not take that big of a market.
- 17:33Speaker 2: You know, there wasn't a huge market for TG Edwards
- 17:35Speaker 2: a couple of years ago when he went to the Bears,
- 17:37Speaker 2: but it was still big enough that the Eagles were
- 17:41Speaker 2: ready to move on, which turned out to be a mistaken.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Is Blanketship to you an imperative guy to bring back?
- 17:49Speaker 1: I mean he no, okay.
- 17:52Speaker 2: No, I mean not very deep. They're not. But I
- 17:56Speaker 2: it's to me, it's you've got Macouba coming back can
- 18:00Speaker 2: add to the position. He's a nice player, he's done
- 18:03Speaker 2: great things, he's a great story, but he is not,
- 18:08Speaker 2: in my opinion, not so much of an impact player
- 18:12Speaker 2: that if he's outside your budget, you change your budget
- 18:15Speaker 2: for him.
- 18:16Speaker 1: So Seattle wins the Super Bowl last night, Mosh, a
- 18:20Speaker 1: lot of people wondering if they're here to stay today
- 18:22Speaker 1: have the staying power. You watch that game last night.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Take away in terms of the distance between Philly and Seattle.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Not big at all, you know, I mean, Seattle's got
- 18:32Speaker 2: to face the same issue that the Eagles faced at
- 18:35Speaker 2: this time last year. Their offensive coordinator is about to
- 18:40Speaker 2: become a head coach. And you can't underestimate or understate
- 18:46Speaker 2: how big of a deal it was for this team
- 18:48Speaker 2: that the Seahawks team that went ten and seven the
- 18:50Speaker 2: year before, to make the move they made. Mike McDonald
- 18:53Speaker 2: fired his offensive coordinator after one year, Ryan Grubb, and
- 18:57Speaker 2: then he hired Clint Kubiak. And then so now you've
- 19:01Speaker 2: got the scheme, right, we're talking this is what we're
- 19:03Speaker 2: talking about, Manyon. You're you're getting the Shanahan scheme. Well,
- 19:06Speaker 2: then you ditch Gino Smith, who doesn't play in that scheme.
- 19:08Speaker 2: And you signed Sam Darnold, who just did a pretty
- 19:11Speaker 2: good job the year before with the Vikings and Kevin
- 19:13Speaker 2: O'Connell's similar scheme, And so you can't underestimate how important
- 19:18Speaker 2: that match is. And we'll see what they do as
- 19:20Speaker 2: far as finding a new offensive coordinator. Now they they've got,
- 19:24Speaker 2: they keep a lot of these guys. I mean, I
- 19:26Speaker 2: think JSN this was his second year, wasn't it. Man,
- 19:29Speaker 2: He's not even gonna get paid yet. They'll probably have
- 19:33Speaker 2: to pay Donald more money, even though he's on a
- 19:35Speaker 2: two year deal. They'll probably have to readjust that. But
- 19:38Speaker 2: most of their defensive guys are I believe, are under contract,
- 19:41Speaker 2: so they'll be good next year. But I think, if
- 19:44Speaker 2: we're being fair, they're a very good team. I don't know, like,
- 19:49Speaker 2: I can't put this defense yet in those like Steele
- 19:51Speaker 2: Curtain or Legion of Boom or Ravens two thousand defenses
- 19:55Speaker 2: because you know they.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Get here by the way for Jackson Smith and oh.
- 19:59Speaker 2: This is this three Okay, Okay, he'll get paid. He'll
- 20:03Speaker 2: get paid. So they'll have to figure out a way
- 20:05Speaker 2: to replace them.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Holes.
- 20:06Speaker 2: They don't have as many free agents as sometimes teams
- 20:08Speaker 2: do when they win a Super Bowl, but they'll be good.
- 20:11Speaker 2: But I don't think that they're I think the Rams
- 20:13Speaker 2: Seahawks game was the Super Bowl, right, I mean that's
- 20:16Speaker 2: those were really the two best teams in the NFL.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Yeah. The the interesting part about them is, as you mentioned,
- 20:23Speaker 1: you got Darnold, who isn't like the long term guy.
- 20:26Speaker 1: You got to figure out what you're going to do
- 20:27Speaker 1: with him, and then you do have Smith and Jigba
- 20:30Speaker 1: his deals coming up the defensive side of the ball.
- 20:35Speaker 1: They were like the Eagles last year where they only
- 20:37Speaker 1: had a rush four all day long and they were
- 20:39Speaker 1: able Your pressure Is that sustainable if you're playing someone
- 20:43Speaker 1: who isn't the Patriots, who seem like were arrived maybe
- 20:47Speaker 1: a little bit ahead of the schedule.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes it's all about the matchup. You go
- 20:51Speaker 2: back to the Eagles winning the Super Bowl over the
- 20:53Speaker 2: paid the Chiefs. The way they did it by dominating
- 20:57Speaker 2: was really because the Chiefs had to play a guard
- 20:59Speaker 2: and tackles arms guard, attackle on Josh swst Ate him
- 21:02Speaker 2: up and you know the same thing the Patriots. I know,
- 21:05Speaker 2: they played Will Campbell and drafted him attack all year long,
- 21:08Speaker 2: but in the playoffs he really struggled, and Seahawks have
- 21:12Speaker 2: a bunch of long armed, long limbed guys who gave
- 21:15Speaker 2: Will Campbell and a lot of other guys on that
- 21:17Speaker 2: line some issues. So I think the defense for them
- 21:19Speaker 2: is is there to stay, no doubt about it.
- 21:22Speaker 1: But by the way, will be Kenneth Walker, what happens
- 21:25Speaker 1: with him?
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah? And then you know running boxer and Kenneth Walk
- 21:29Speaker 2: had a great game. But you know, I don't I
- 21:31Speaker 2: don't think that he's the make or break player for them.
- 21:34Speaker 2: You know, it's really about keeping that defense intact and
- 21:36Speaker 2: then making sure that Darnold has the guy, the right
- 21:39Speaker 2: kind of guy.
- 21:39Speaker 1: It's never a bad thing to go into your free
- 21:41Speaker 1: agent year as the Super Bowl MVP.
- 21:44Speaker 2: No not and last dot dot dot you're a running
- 21:48Speaker 2: back possible?
- 21:50Speaker 1: All right, Jeff Boscher. We have a full offseason now
- 21:53Speaker 1: ready to go, locked and loaded, and the offseason will
- 21:56Speaker 1: begin here quickly as free agency begins in less than
- 21:59Speaker 1: a month from now. It all kind of starts to
- 22:01Speaker 1: take off and we'll see what ends up happening. The
- 22:04Speaker 1: Eagles have a lot of decisions, Plus the draft is
- 22:07Speaker 1: on the way and we'll be discussing it right here
- 22:09Speaker 1: on Football at four on The Sports Past Live and
- 22:12Speaker 1: check out Jeff's work over at Phillyvoice dot com. All right, man,
- 22:17Speaker 1: here we go, off season. You ready, Oh, I've been ready.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Wednesday,
