- Aaron: Howdy howdy and welcome back to Run After Cast, the college football podcast. I'm your munificent host, Aaron, joined by my two co-hosts, Ryan Ryan: Hey guys. Aaron: and Chandler. Chandler: Good on gentlemen. Aaron: And as you all know, we just wrapped up week four of college football. We could say this is the week where things start getting real for most of the teams out there. We get to see some matchups, some quality teams going up against quality teams, some less quality teams also going up against quality teams. And this week, I would say we saw a good number of shakeups, good numbers of teams doing what they were supposed to do, but doing it the way they were supposed to do it. And just some really good games of football. So, as normal, we'd head over to the Raction News Desk. It's season, nothing's happening. We're all focused on the games that are on and talking about the games that just happened. So we'll get straight into it. And let's tee up here with probably two contentious fan bases that when they get the chance to go up head to head. Like to make their presence known before the games kick off. I'm of course talking about Texas and Tennessee. We got to see this one. This came down, close game. Texas takes it 20 over Tennessee's 17. Came down to the last drive of the game. What did y'all see in this game? Chandler: To me, the thing that stuck out was, well, in more ways than one, Colin Simmons. he Aaron: yeah, yeah. We got to see a lot of them. Chandler: yes, he disrupted Tennessee's offensive line and got back there five different times. And for Tennessee's defensive front or Texas's defensive front to be that dominant throughout the whole game, you would think that this score would have separated a little bit. Aaron: And most would say should have been. Chandler: Yes. So Texas got it done. Arch has not been the best on the road. But for them to, you know, go into a very hostile environment, the whole we're the real UT, you know, we're the real UT, like that there's a lot of a lot of banter throughout that whole game and the stadium was rocking. So it's to for Arch to get the win on the road, you know, it helps us Ohio State fans a little bit with them, you know, getting a close one Aaron: Ha ha ha. Chandler: and and staying up there at number one. Aaron: yeah, definitely both of these fan bases showed up to call us all idiots for whatever prediction, whatever team we had winning, the other side came in and let us know. we were dumb. Ryan: Yeah, well, like you said, Colin Simmons. I always try to say Colin Simmons is good. You never liked him. That was the day. He finally proved it to you, you know? But as a team, what they have ten sacks on Faizon Brandon You're a freshman quarterback and you're all flustered back there with double digit sacks. That's gotta be a terrible day for you. And I think Tennessee's offense looked very sputtery, probably 'cause of that frantic young quarterback. But their defense looked pretty solid. I think that was a defensive game. I think Arch could have played better. He even said that in the post game interview. I thought that was really funny. And he finally got to talk to Holly Rowe. And I thought that was hilarious. Aaron: No, I agree. I I think Tennessee showed up defensively. I think Tennessee's defense deserves their ranking. I think their offense looked anemic. Completely hung them out to dry there. just both these teams were let down offensively. Granted, both teams defensively were there punishing absolutely Colin Simmons made a case for best defensive player of the week. you don't get much more than that. Of course, we have to bring up the unsportsman like penalty. whether it was his fourth or fifth sack of the game, he gets back there, takes down Brandon. then you know, we'll just go through the motion of he unzips, whips it out in a mime fashion, and pees all over the offense of Tennessee. apparently didn't watch the old piss game where old Miss loses the egg bowl. to a mocking pee in the end zone. But it is something where it's like, I think my favorite part about this penalty, I personally found it funny. I get it, it's disrespectful. It is, it's the intention. it's not horrific. But I think the thing that really sold me on one of my favorite moments in the week is after the flag's thrown, he turns around and puts his hands up and he sh like surprised. And I was like, come on. You you can't pee it over the opponent and not expect the you have to think that's coming. You can't act surprised. You're not allowed to. Chandler: I it's not as bad as Ryan: Yeah, if I was Chandler: Dylan Stewart's like a infamous, you know, unloading a clip on the guy as he's walking over him. Aaron: yeah. Chandler: It's so I mean it there's there's levels to it. Yeah, that's true. Ryan: Well that was fine before. That Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: was fine before. Yeah, if you go back and reference one of our old videos, we were talking about this and we actually made our own rules as yes, nothing sexual, no gun stuff, you know, but keep the nose wiping. So this was a sexual Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: one kind of, which is not good. But you know, he could have argued like, I'm on fire, I pulled out like a like a fire hose of sprain it down with how s spread apart his hands were and Aaron: Ha ha ha. No, I l like I said, I Chandler: it had some distance to it for sure. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: I personally I'm a child. I find it funny. I it like I said, it is disrespectful. I get it. But it's a fun sport sometimes. You know, it is I it is one of those things you do to your friend if it was in if you were in the same scenario. so I get it, it has to be a flag. Now, should you do it in a close game? Absolutely not. You know, when you're up 34 points, maybe. but And this one, it was just one of those things that when those kind of issues come up, when we get penalties like that, it just kind of felt like Texas was holding itself back in this game offensively as much as it possibly could. And then the defense did give Tennessee a few chances it shouldn't have had. So it being 20 to 17, I think the stats of the game tell a different story than watching the game. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Yeah, and I know with the penalty, the Colin Simmons thing, like, realistically, kinda self-implosion there that like they're giving it like it's just third and super, super long, and you're handing him a first down and giving an opportunity to come back. That's kind of unacceptable, but it was funny. So the Texas fans are like all over it. But I could totally see like if they came back and scored again that that's like the whole game would have like been on that and it would have been his fault. Aaron: I mean it w it was close. It comes down to an onside kick by Tennessee that Chandler: That they recovered. Aaron: they recovered. Ryan: Also, have you ever seen someone drop, do a drop kick, onside kick? That was incredible. I've never seen someone do that. Aaron: I haven't either. And I I saw Stark was very ardently arguing with the referees on the sideline before it happened. He th because during the game they do line up, they take a kick, but there is a timeout right before it goes out. That onside happens to just kind of veer straight out of bounds. then after the timeout they do come back, do the same thing, kick it, taps Wingo, Wingo doesn't scoop it in, and Tennessee recovers. So dream scenario for an onside, but Tennessee wasn't quite able to get the ball moved and into the end zone to get it in their favor. Yeah, just a field goal. And that that's to me, yeah, Chandler: I mean all they needed was a field goal. And they couldn't even do that. They just they just they got it and then just kept going backwards. Aaron: it it is something where it's just like they had the shot. It probably should have been made, you know, a couple runs of and Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: whatever quick out routes just Take the shot, but it went backwards, basically went back over the line and threw it out of possibility. So disappointing for Tennessee fans. like I said, defense looked incredible. I'd even have their defense ranked higher than they were at, but the offense just could not get things rolling. So Texas, I think, looks very vulnerable right now. I think if you were a defensive coordinator, you're watching this film saying we know how to get Arch. Arch looked a little lost in the pocket, a little flustered, froze up a lot. And I think that's something either they're gonna have to work on. I don't know how you're gonna make a lot of substantial progress as that schedule keeps going right now, but we'll just hope he keeps warm and keeps being a threat. But it was concerning to see, especially for a Chandler: Yeah, I mean I think Aaron: number one slot. Chandler: I think I saw a graphic that said they have seven ranked games left. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Chandler: So Aaron: So Ryan: I don't know if that included this one. Chandler: Yeah, it could have been it could've included, but at least six ranked games. And Florida being in the eighth slot now. Crazy. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah, I'd have to refresh on the schedule, but I know it's not easy. I know it's not. I know. I know. We'll be talking probably a little later, maybe sometime this week, about the new rankings. But a lot of hard teams coming up. So let's go to a game also in the SEC, another SEC square off. We could say at the time of the game's kickoff, a ranked head off, or a ranked game, that also featured an implosion, but that had no hope. We're talking LSU, AM, LSU completely taking this away from AM 35 to 6. I'd ask you what you boys saw in this game, but I can guarantee it wasn't offensive production from AM. Chandler: Yeah, no, very bad. Six Ryan: yeah. Chandler: points, not good. And at halftime I looked at Ryan because we were watching this game at his house. It was like fourteen to six, like or well I don't it might not have been fo fourteen to six, fourteen three, somewhere around there. I was like, is LSU like are they is their offense a little overhyped? Is there like what what is their production really gonna look like? Second half, they must have heard me, 'cause I don't know what happened. Completely different team. I mean they had five hundred and six total yards of offense and the what's funny is We had a my one of my buddies baby showers this weekend. I pulled into his driveway. The first thing he said was, Hey, how about that thirty to twenty seven prediction you said on your video? I was like, All right. I was like Aaron: I I lived with this one. I will say the evening time slot, Chandler: Way off. Aaron: prime time slot was not good for my predictions this week. I have a lot of apologies that will be coming into the episode. LSU, you get one. A you do not get one from me. I believed in you, Chandler: Yeah. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: and you proved me wrong terribly. Ryan: Yeah, it kinda went about how I expected. I mean, LSU, pretty dominant. Yeah, came out slow, still produced a lot of yards, but low efficiency. And they only had one at turnover. So like I don't really know what's happened there. That's not very good, but kinda yeah. Texas AM still couldn't produce on offense. Marcelo Reed just can't get it done when he really needs to. I think LSU's defense is actually really good. They were able to run the ball. They it just looked good. They were just dominating that game. Sorry for Texas St. But I thought they would slob around, kinda, and just kinda pick up a few points. More than six. But no. Chandler: Now I don't know Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: I don't know what their depth looks like at linebacker, but Whit Weeks being out for the potential of the season is not good. Ryan: That's not good. And neither does the trade as green. But they scored a bunch of points without it. But I like having Chandler: Yeah. Ryan: him in. I feel like that's a huge deal in the run and pass game. Aaron: Yeah, it just it seemed like a game where AM was just flustered. And that's really how I expected LSU to handle this game. I thought maybe after such an emotional loss, such a big season moment, AM would come in more composed, especially after having their struggles so far this season. But it it really was the inverse there. LSU looked very I I'd say first half, there was some start stops. But then second half was just smooth sailing. It looked like they were playing a cupcake in the second half. Ryan: Yeah, I just don't think Texas AM's good. I think we thought Kentucky was a little fluky, but they Aaron: Mm-hmm. Ryan: really just can't score. And when you're giving up like thirty five ish, that's a little too much. Give a forty something to Kentucky and you can't score that many. That's a huge issue. I know how that works. You gotta score more points. I know that's like whatever. But yeah. Aaron: As we said in our Thursday show, as you both reminded me, no, it but it is also something where it's like, I I think at this point AM's knocked out of postseason contention. Like that you can't have Ryan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Aaron: two losses here this early, even if they go through flawless for the rest of the season, which would have to be a miracle, some angels in the outfield stuff for them, like it's gonna have to they're gonna have to just hope for a decent bowl game at this point. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: But good news for Aggie fans out there, your disappointment's already here. You can release that breath that you were holding on to that you knew was going to come later in the season. So y'all can just sit back, relax, and have fun at the Gator Bowl or the Tax Layer Bowl, wherever you're gonna end up. So we'll leave that sloppy game of football behind us. Sorry, AM fans. you know, we still like you, but there's not a lot of hope left for ya. And we'll go over to we call another sloppy game of football, but a beautiful sloppy game of football, and that was Iowa and Michigan. And as we talked about Thursday, never count out Iowa. They drag you down in the mud with them, no matter who you are. So Iowa ends up taking this game 20 to 19. A beautiful ending. A wonderful thing to see. We needed this as an entire fandom just to heal a little bit from week one, just like Ole Miss beaten LSU. This made us all feel better. So I know Chandler, you love this result. So go into it for me. Tell me, well, how does this make you feel? Chandler: I mean it felt great and I mean like you said, i to have them lose on a last second play like they won when they shouldn't have on the first week is just like it that's just college football in a nutshell and it's just so poetic and you can't script the kind of stuff. That's why we all l love college football, because stuff like this happens. And to see Iowa mean, just Known for their defense, not always known for their offense. And this was this was just a Aaron: Ha ha ha. Chandler: very defensive battled game. And shout out to Vegas for the over under being thirty eight and a half, because it was thirty-nine total points. Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: So they I mean they were nail on the head. but I mean it it was just a defensive game. And Iowa did what they had to do to win the game, coming down at the end of the game, two seconds remaining, throwing a ball in the corner of the on the pylon, catching it, getting it done. I had a celebratory Aaron: It really Chandler: big slice of cake after that game. Aaron: Ha ha. Chandler: I went to the fridge, got a big slice of cake, and was eating it very happy. Aaron: would say it was a very messy final drive too. Like it was Chandler: It was. Aaron: it was that like one and a half minute you know option to get down to the end zone. And if you went and watched just that, you would assume that ended in heartbreak for Iowa. The fact it ends up in a toe touch in the end zone, beautiful. Wonderful to see. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Yeah, and it's just a big ten game, you know, low scoring, a lot of defense. Gotta love it. Traditional game. And that's just so fitting that all this cheating that team of North's been doing, yeah, and scoring on the last play, that they deserve it to get right back in their face. That's so good. Hank Brown from Auburn. I like him at Iowa. I'm glad he gets to thrive a little. Chandler: And now I mean game day goes to Iowa City next weekend. Now I'm a little disappointed that, you know, it's not going to to Starkville and ha and when the with the Alabama come to town. but I Aaron: Yeah. We we can save that though. I'll I'll say I'm glad I the Iowa deserves it here. Plus game day. Game day's better at places like this. Like Teams that don't get featured on game day often. They bring in energy. They get the their one chance. They know they're not showing up here for another 20 years. Like they're gonna go crazy. Plus getting to see the program. It's awesome. Iowa, I'm falling in love with you. I've always enjoyed it because it is a ugly brand of football. And I wrote here in our notes that Iowa's football is not the football we deserve, but it is the football we need right now. And just seeing something ugly that turns out like it, it just it it always works out when you absolutely need it to. Not consistent, doesn't happen week week. But it's like, do we have somebody that needs to go get taken down in a trap game in the Big Ten? Send them to Iowa. They'll they'll take care of it. Ryan: They're scappy, they'll rough you up a little. Aaron: yeah. Chandler: Yeah, the the last time sorry I look this up. The last time game day would have been at Starkville was posting Auburn, number two Auburn that came to town in twenty fourteen. Aaron: That's probably more recently than they've been to Iowa. Chandler: That's what I was yeah. Ryan: What was the score? Aaron: Yeah. What was the score? Chandler: Mississippi State beat Auburn thirty eight to twenty three. Aaron: Mm. Mm. Mm. Ryan: That's really bad. Chandler: Let's see when the last time they went to Iowa. Aaron: I feel like that's gonna be like a two thousand and six moment. Right around the time Ryan was born. Chandler: September thirtieth, two thousand six. That's incredible. They Aaron: Listen, when you're Ryan: Did you look this up? How did you know that? Aaron: I did I did not Chandler: they played Ohio State. They hosted Ohio State in two thousand six. Ryan: What was the score? Chandler: And so. Aaron: Every once in a while you do look something up and you're like, it would be nice if they had the score featured in a place that makes sense. Chandler: State won the 2006 game, defeating Iowa 38-17. What Aaron: that's like opera numbers. Chandler: what is Iowa ranked right now? Fifteen? Ryan: I don't know, like fifteen. Chandler: They were ranked thirteen during this. That's almost they were almost i identical. That's that's that's crazy. Aaron: Almost identical, yeah. Chandler: Hmm. Full circle. Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: Who do they play next week? Chandler: Who Iowa? Ohio State. Wait, on Ryan: Sorry. Chandler: September th it was almost September thirtieth too. That's crazy. It was pretty close to the to the the twenty the twenty Aaron: That's very f that's pretty close. Yeah. It's also Chandler: year anniversary. Aaron: watch it turn out to be a full moon. That means I was at full power. Like, yeah, we'll see how it comes out. Yeah. Chandler: See I think there's a lot there's a lot of goodness that surrounds Ryan: I'm sorry, Iowa. Chandler: Iowa because they have the the children's hospital wave at the beginning. Like th that's there's Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: a lot of goodness around that stadium and that city. So it's always like you're always you're always starting off behind the eight ball if you're a team coming into Iowa. 'Cause there's just there's just a lot Aaron: Yeah, it Chandler: of positivity around that around that stadium. Aaron: Also seeing the coach cry after the game, I was like, man, that's good to see in a program. Like a longstanding coach. Like Iowa is not part of the carousel. Yeah. Chandler: Yeah, he's been there for like twenty eight seasons or something crazy. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: And like credit to Iowa for being like, this is our football. This is the way we play. This is the way we like it. And sticking with that. So Iowa, you're definitely one of my big 10 teams this year. I'm gonna, I'm gonna ride for you. Chandler: One of Aaron: one of I you know me. I'm I'm split across how many teams at this point. I say almost every week. I'm gonna start following them. I like that. So you know, and we don't play so even better. So that was a fun, embarrassing moment for Michigan. Like I said, we all need it. If you're a Michigan fan, I'm sorry that we're all against you this season. It really is unfortunate that that happened week one. I I get to I get to speak as the unbiased ones. Yeah. Chandler: No, don't be sorry. No, nothing to be sorry about. Yeah, Ryan: Nope. Click off the video and unsubscribe. Chandler: nothing to be sorry about. Michigan sucks. Aaron: But we all picked you that we don't like you this season. So I'm it's just the way it is every season. Ryan: Every season. But especially this one. Chandler: Every season. Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: Me and this guy right here are in cahoots. Lockstep Aaron: Well, since Chandler: as you will. Aaron: we've been s Ryan: I'm a man of justice and I I won it. And Iowa has served the justice to the team up north this week. Aaron: They have. Ryan: And that's why it was so great. Aaron: They have. So let's leave this sphere of Big Ten negativity, this punching down onto Michigan. We've joined in Iowa and just beaten someone up. And let's go to we could say the hero of the Big Ten right now, Ohio State. Let's go to where you guys will bring the positive vibes. We had Ohio State playing against Illinois this week. Ohio State takes it 42 to 19. I would say this is not a surprising result. This is kind of what everybody saw this ending up as. They'll think Illinois played a good game. Ohio State played Jeremiah Smith and I believe 21 other guys kind of around at that point. and Jeremiah Smith just put on a clinic. I mean, there's that's really what to talk about in this game is Jeremiah Smith showed up and showed everybody that he is the best player in college football right now. So Chandler, I'll turn it over to you to expound on why Jeremiah Chandler: You know, Aaron: Smith is best. Chandler: I'll do you one better. How about my guy, Johnny Manzel Julian Saiyan, running for seven seven attempts? I mean, he had a read option keeper that wasn't Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: Yeah. Got some cardio. Chandler: really a read option keeper, but I think he wanted to prove to everybody that he could keep the ball and run. And what by golly is it on film? QB sneaks for conversions. He had a keeper that he ran to the corner of the end zone, rolled out of the pocket. I mean, it loved seeing him run the ball. He had five total touchdowns. And yeah, Jeremiah Smith, he's He's pretty good at football. It Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: it was insane to see. But I mean, I think the biggest critique I've seen on all the message boards and across all podcasts is that Ohio State's defense i allowing Illinois four hundred and sixty two all purpose yards. not very good. Because they're I would say they're just a middle middle of the road average, no f not a lot of firepower offense. And they put up that many yards. So that's a that's Problem, yes, but they only had 19 points. So it was kind of a very, very bend, don't break situation. but a lot of it, if you rewatch the tape, there's a lot of miscommunication with like Devin Sanchez and Jay Timmins. Jay Timmins is a freshman playing in a starting role now. Of course, there's gonna be miscommunication. There's a lot of young talent on the defense across the board, and it's early in the season. There's not a lot of star power. Like if you look across the board, there's not a lot of people that I would think right now in this upcoming draft would go first round on the defense. And that's something that Map Patricia did not have last year. He had a plethora of first round talent across the board Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: that if a call wasn't quite quite right or the scheme wasn't quite right, they could make up for it. And I think this year it's a little more you have to really fine tune the schemes, you to really understand where you're supposed to be and then not allow leaky coverage. And I think it'll get better throughout the year. It's just communication. I think the more Matt Patricia has this defense, the more he gets used to putting people in the right spots and getting comfortable with what their best roles are, I think things will get better. But I mean again, forty two to nineteen, you can't be too disappointed about it. I will say the only offensive minor critique I have, it's kind of a double edged, like hypocritical situation of like we always say, you know, feed Jeremiah as much as you can because he's great and he'll catch the ball and he'll score a lot of points. But it's also you have other receivers and other weapons that you wanna kinda get involved because at some point during the game in a you know, postseason run, you're gonna have to have other people to take some load off of Jeremiah and make some plays happen and keep defenses honest. And it's gonna be important for Julian to kinda get comfortable with those receivers now. but all in all, nothing really too critiquey. I mean, forty two to nineteen, they did what they were supposed to. The spread was a little high, but No no hard feelings. I was really impressed with Julian Sand and the offense and the game in general. Ryan: I if you're Ohio State, I don't know what else you can ask for. You talked about the miscommunications. I only really saw one. Devin Sanchez just covers them so well that they're like, that has to be past interference. And they called it. The next play, he like dropped in zone coverage for some reason. He was supposed to run man and the score touchdown. That the only miscommunication. Other than that, I would never run zone coverage ever because y'all just give up a bunch of yards and y'all are like so good in man coverage. You have so many good coverage guys. I mean, the fact that Matt Patricia as a freshman is trusting Jay Timmins to go out there and cover guys one on one, amazing. And he did it. Devin Sanchez, best corner in college football. He's out there. Jermaine Matthews looking much better. Every time you're running coverage, great. I'm glad you got more pressure this week. And we got to see some more guys move around at the D line. I thought that was very good. I thought that on offense You kinda did spread it around. You gave one to Brock Boyd, gave a couple Devin McHugh, and I know he dropped one, which was surprising. But if I was Arthur Smith, I would give it to Jeremiah Smith every single time. I think he almost doesn't give him the ball enough. he should just let him score the fifth touchdown and get the school record. And obviously, Jeremiah Smith has been the best player in college football for this year and two previous years. But I think we're just now getting to see that because they wouldn't feed him the ball every play and they're giving him like eleven receptions a game now. And we're starting to see it, you know? And it's not against plumbers in middle schools like Malekai Tony. You're actually playing Aaron: Mm-hmm. Ryan: I guess Illinois's a real team. Texas is a real team then you put up a hundred and seventy yards and two touchdowns or something. But I have a good question. Do you think Jeremiah Smith goes first overall next year? Aaron: it's tough. I think Chandler: like him to be first of all, yes. I think he should because I don't think there's a quarterback in the class that could be a franchise quarterback that your GM would trust more than a generational guy like Jeremiah that is gonna be a Hall of Fame player. Aaron: Yes, but I always think it comes down to in the perfect world, he goes first overall. But the first round pick of the draft is normally the worst football team in the NFL. So makes sense that they sometimes pick the not absolute best player and fill it with a QB if they feel like they need QB. So it it's always tough when it's not a QB in argument for first overall. So There's a chance, but like the Browns may show up and say, Give us Arch. And that's the what they do. Ryan: I have a perfect example though. I have a perfect example. That this reminds me something of I think it was 2007 when Lane Kiffin was at the Raiders, that he really wanted to get Calvin Johnson, Megatron, first overall. And his GM said, No, I want Jamarcus Russell. And they picked Jamarcus Russell. And then Calvin Johnson went to the Lions second overall. And this is an exact scenario. That you have a general generational talent. You have an immediate hall of fame receiver of Jeremiah Smith, the best right wide receiver ever that you can get. And you're gonna pass him up for a Jamarcus Russell, whoever the other quarterback is. They who Aaron: Mm-hmm. Ryan: no matter who it is, I think they just need to take Jeremiah Smith. He is the best wide receiver I think ever. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah, I he should go, but we'll we'll have to see. That's definitely as we get close to the end of the season, we'll see who's around and who's possibly still there. Chandler: my last thing I'll say is Illinois rushing the ball for almost two hundred yards goes a hundred and ninety nine yards. Can't happen against a team with a explosive passing attack as well. So that's gonna have to get buttoned up a lot. I mean there's a lot of plays where you like, he runs into the line and you're like, he gave one or two yards, then he just like kind of wiggled his way out and ran for like fifteen or twenty. So that holistically has to get cleaned up for sure. I think that almost is more important to get cleaned up than some of the leaky coverages on the back end that were just, you know, whatever communication Aaron: Absolutely. Yeah. Chandler: problems. I I think that is an more vulnerable spot to where if a team can run the ball over you and then have a explosive passing attack, you're just gonna be screwed. Ryan: Yeah, and there was a few times that it was like they just kind of broke their brand like forty yards or something. There just wasn't enough bodies over there. And that is an issue. But I mean you handle that against a real team, Chandler: Exactly. Ryan: it'll be fine. I think they were just underestimating Chandler: Agree. Ryan: 'cause it's Illinois. Aaron: But we'll leave your neck of the woods here. Ohio State took care of business. Let's go to another team that we could say maybe not all three of us believed in and the Thursday show. But Ryan, Auburn took care of business so speaking. Chandler: I think you were the only one that didn't believe in them. Aaron: Well, you know, a third of us didn't believe in them. and you know what, I may say I still don't. But Auburn does win over Vanderbilt twenty one to fifteen. Ryan, tell us about this game. Ryan: yeah, when you said in the pre-show, I was like, there's zero chance he could score 30 points. But I also thought we couldn't score 30 points, and we didn't. For a while, we only scored one offensive touchdown that we actually produced by our offense because Omar Mapson, I Omar Mabson, by the way, blocked a punt and then some other guy picked up and ran in for a touchdown. But it was a very sloppy game. We were playing a freshman quarterback and he was kind of finicky, kinda, and he would run around, do stuff on us. And our our defense just isn't that great. Like we had a lot of times we got him back in the backfield, we're gonna sack him, and we would just miss the tackle. Xavier Atkins is like the best linebacker in college football and he would like miss the tackle. The guy would scamper around for a couple yards. And I just thought it was really sloppy. Kind of about like last year, the game that Hugh Freeze purposely lost 'cause they were lowering his buyout against Kentucky, that I was just like, When are we gonna start playing offense? you know? It was like that. And we just didn't have any offensive production. We still couldn't really run the ball. Jeremiah Cobb actually ran the ball a little bit better. He had a couple of times that it's like, like if I don't get like three guys touching me at the line, I can actually get like ten yards or something. Cause he's actually good. Our O line doesn't get a push, but they're very good in pass coverage. But Byron Brown only threw for 140 yards. We just kind of slobbed around and didn't really do anything. And I don't know. Nothing nothing crazy happened. Aaron: I'd say Yeah. Ryan: But it's Vanderbilt. Like it's supposed to you're supposed to dominate Vanderbilt. They're a nothing. Aaron: It is something that this I I wrote here in the notes this foot wasn't a game that was played for human consumption. It wasn't a electric game. It wasn't really like other than the kick a block or the block on the punt into a touchdown, that was a great moment. Honestly, different game if that doesn't happen. And it it came it just really felt like whoever made more mistakes and there were a lot of them is who won that game. Auburn, you you did good. You came out. It it there was you guys remove it and it wasn't terrible. But it's like I I think the thing that is even getting to me now, because we see how upset you are week to week, is it doesn't feel like a lot of the stuff is getting better. It kind of feels like Ryan: No. Aaron: we're getting the same stalled out offensive drives, a lot of the issues we're seeing are repeating. I agree with you. I did think Cobb was able to generate more this week, but it didn't look like a continuous format of it. It looked like more of a di defensive line falter on Vandy than it was through Auburn's generation. Ryan: Yeah, and it it's not like a running back issue. It's a game formation and offensive line issue. But couple takeaways. DJ Durkin actually ran like press man on third down, and it worked pretty often. There was a couple times he got cooked or had like pass interference or something. But other than that, it worked a lot better, and I I was glad to see that. And yeah, how you said it doesn't look like it's getting better week to week. It's because this is the best there is. We have this elite offense from South Florida. And they said, look at all the stuff we're producing at South Florida. Byron Brown has already super progressed, and so are all these people around him. That I don't want to get this new quarterback and develop him. All of these people already know the system. So Byron Brown actually can't change anything because this is the best there is. He is at a ceiling. This is the best you can get. Top level four on Four and a half million dollar SEC quarterback. He's the best quarterback in the country. You know? This is as good as it gets. So they can't change it week to week because there's nothing to change. This is fixed. He said, I want to walk in Aaron: Okay. Ryan: and just implement them here because I want to win now this year. I don't have time to learn a new system to develop anything. So there's nothing to change because this is the best offense there is. How can you make it any better? You can't change anything and make it better. Chandler: You know what's funny? Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: Is last night when I was walking my dog, I was talking to wife, and I said, Okay, I have a hypothetical situation for you. Okay. Pretend Team A is in a low tier conference and they have all these players that are going to follow coach to team B in the best conference and They are under the impression that this team A to team B is going to translate the same production that they had when the conference play is not the same. And I said, What do you think the outcome is gonna be? And she said, Well, it's probably not gonna translate and they're probably gonna suck. Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: And I said, Do Ryan: Mm-hmm. Chandler: you know who I just described? And she said, No. And I said, Auburn. I said, That's what Auburn did. I said, they took all their players. From USF and they translated it and put that offense into Auburn. And Auburn, being an SEC, is not in the American Athletic Conference and plays harder games week in or week out. Some might say significantly harder games week in and week out. And it's just it it was never gonna translate. I don't care if you have the best coordinators in the world. Like it's gonna take time to get better. It's just a completely Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: different game. Ryan: Yeah, so you have this team in a terrible conference that you might have three hard games. They played Miami, lost fifty to ten, they played Memphis and lost, and they played a terrible Florida team and actually came out and won, but they slobbed it around. I think they only scored like eighteen points. So if you think about that, your three hardest games, those games get twice as hard and you play that kind of team twice as often. How in the world would you expect to have the same or more production? Dan. You scored ten points Chandler: Can't Ryan: for Miami. You're not gonna score more than ten points this year, you know? And I think that we were worried about this in January when we went, no, this is gonna Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Ryan: be our office. This is really bad. And it was like, No, no, no, it'll be okay. And it's I think it's starting to set in for people. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. This is I like I would say later in the off season, I came in with like, you know, maybe there's some potential here, maybe something's coming through. Like I listened to you enough. and I know I and I Ryan: I got fed the same stuff. They're like, No, no, it's okay. It's okay. And I haven't seen it for a while. Aaron: loved your positivity going into it. And now I'm like I feel like an old man like chain smoking cigarettes watching Auburn. Like I'm just Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: like I just not seeing what I need to see out of these boys. And it is like it's just it is a little frustrating because after watching you guys play against Florida and the offensive production you had against who we now know is a legitimate threat in Florida. Like yeah, Ryan: Kinda. Aaron: I mean you guys put up a good amount of points. Wasn't enough, but it still was good. And then like coming against Vandy, yeah. Ryan: But we we had twice as much in the second half when they're already up by seventeen. So like it was bend don't break. Aaron: Yeah. And it's still it's still something where like against Vandy, you should see it. I I even had it as like, okay, you guys, we might see 30 points here. I was so ambitious and didn't pay out. But yeah, I just I just don't know where this goes for the rest of the season. And I feel sad that it's like it feels like you're just gonna have to put this on your shoulders and keep marching week to week. Ryan: Yeah, and I think that's more of it. It's not that like I'm mad how the game went. It's that when I'm watching that game, I'm like envisioning us losing to Tennessee and Alabama and George and all these people, because I'm like, this isn't gonna cut it. I'm having to like live it now and later. I can't just be happy in the moment. I just realizing this isn't gonna work. It's a terrible Vanderbilt team. I feel like we got lucky against Florida. And scoring that point. I I was kinda like, Yeah, I don't know if we can even score twenty five points and I still know if we can. We just happen to do it that one week. Chandler: I mean the same Vanderbilt team got gifted a win against N C State. Ryan: They lost to NC State. So we're we're pretty much played a team worse than a terrible NC State team and just slobbed around and barely won and s scored two touchdowns on our offense. Who? Aaron: I will say Vandy's final drive, I kinda had that fear in me of like, are they gonna pull another NC state here? Like I can't count the Vandy magic out of the equation yet. So when when you guys won, I was like, whew, at least Ryan's household can rest easier than it would have been this evening. Ryan: Yeah, also, I thought it was hilarious. They tried to run a fake punt and the announcer's like, yeah, they had a receiver open. March downfield. They tried to get Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: their butt under the fifty yard bomb. It was hilarious. Chandler: No, yeah. The gunner like took off the two like slot gunners like just booked it and they were thirty forty at least yards down the field. And the the the announcement's like, you could have hit him. Like, no, your lefty punter that's never thrown a ball farther than fifteen yards is not making that throw ever Aaron: Yeah, you you could see it in his eyes, like as he rolled out, ready to get the throw as the defenders come in. He's just like, Well, this is a turnover on down. Chandler: Nobody's down there. Yeah, Ryan: Yep. Mm-hmm. Chandler: no but then he tried to chuck it and it didn't make it anywhere close to the line of Aaron: Yep. Chandler: scrimmage. Ryan: Yep. I thought it was hilarious. He was having a bad day. He had to duck a fifty yard bomb. He had to get Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: a bucked punt in his face for a touchdown. Bad day for that punter. Chandler: But see, like if you're playing a team and like that's a play you have to call to try to flip momentum and try to make something happen, you should beat that team by a hundred points. Ryan: Yeah, they're desperate. That they c actually can't Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Ryan: do anything that they have to trick you in off a fake pun. Chandler: That they had to call that play Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: on their own side of the field. Aaron: The fifty yard deep bomb fake pun. The old classic. We see it Ryan: Mm-hmm. Chandler: Ha ha ha Aaron: every week. but Ryan: But again, I will stand with my statement. I think I could have played quarterback this week and threw for a hundred and forty yards. Aaron: I I've seen you throw. I think I think Yeah. Ryan: No, no, no. Not because I'm good I'm not good. I think I could have done what they did. Chandler: Also Aaron: I I think you could have made that punt. The fake punt happened. Chandler: Also, fun fact for you. do you know how tall and heavy Relique Brown is? Ryan: Okay, no no. This is set up. I've been calling we me and him, me and Chandler talk about these running backs that are meatballs. We say Jacobia Jackson's a meatball, fluff both will some meatball, and I specifically Chandler: Bluff Bothwell. Meatball. Aaron: Yep. Yep. Ryan: in my head go, the most meatbally meatball is Relique Brown. And we looked it up and here's my exact height and weight. I am a meatball Aaron: Ha ha. Ryan: Relique Brown. Except for some stuff, but the athlet except for the athleticism. Chandler: Yeah, he's exactly yeah. Exactly five nine one ninety-three. Like it was a weird number too, it was like one ninety-three. Ryan: It's specifically my exact height lame. I'm like except if you're Aaron: Yep. Yep. Ryan: listening, I'm six fat. Chandler: And two fifty. Aaron: Everybody that Yeah, throw throw those three into a sub and then have, you know, whatever whichever John Mattir drop it Ryan: John Matthew chuck it up for the defense. Chandler: Tom Brady was Aaron: behind him. Chandler: like, Hey look, Justin Herbert threw a meatball, he was like Ryan: Yep. The if man through a meatball sub. Aaron: Yep. Yep. And still it's my favorite description for people chugging a ball. But yeah. Yeah, that is something we we're not going into to depth this week about Georgia, Oklahoma because feels like abuse to really dive into that game. but ball security, John Matir Chandler: If if John Aaron: is not in the Heisman conversation this week. Yeah. Chandler: If if John Matheer Ryan: He's paid off. He's getting money from somebody. That's the worst play ever. He threw it behind his head. Chandler: if John Aaron: Yeah, Oklahoma. Chandler: John I mean, John Matir doesn't have the crowd telling him that people are open downfield, so he couldn't no offensive production was made. I mean, yeah, that literally I mean, I watched the same exact play today happen to Drake Drake May in the Patriots Aaron: Yes. Chandler: game. He Ryan: Ooh, Drake Mays fell off. He went from Drake, Drake May, May, Greatness May, to like meatball sub, like terrible May. Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: And Drake May did the same thing. He threw it and like it was like a cartoon. He's like, where's the ball? And it was like behind him. Aaron: Yeah. It there both of those. It was some loony tunes like Gadzook's moments where they're like the arms going forward Chandler: Yeah, like you wanna have like the Aaron: and the ball went backwards. And you're like, this is impossible. Yeah. Chandler: You wanna have the Scooby Doo running in the background, like the the noise in the back, like Ryan: I finally made it to the red zone. Let me just give Mr. Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: But Ryan: Cole a touchdown. Aaron: Which Georgia it Chandler: I can't take it anymore, I gotta th I gotta fumble it. Ryan: Yeah. I too close to a touchdown. Yeah. Aaron: Georgia was just a powerhouse. Like I I get we knew this was gonna happen. We we talked about it Thursday. Ryan: I'm just nothing. Aaron: Yeah, it it might Chandler: That was close. Aaron: as well have been. And I mean Georgia's still Georgia, so not looking Ryan: Mm. Aaron: forward to that later in the season. S but Chandler: Yeah, take us over to the the high horse, you know, Mississippi State fan that's just, you know, riding high. hold on. Aaron: yeah, yeah. I for now, for now. Chandler: I wanna say first consecutive four and start in a season since nineteen forty four. So congratulations. Ryan: And forty five. And forty five. Two years. Aaron: My wife told me today, Chandler: So yeah. Aaron: she was sitting on the couch and she was reading, you know, she's looking up Mississippi State stuff as she does in her off time. And she goes, Do you know this is the first time we're facing Alabama at home undefeated since 1920 something? And I was like, Hey, that's a weird statistic. We don't need to track that. Like, that's just add in the full moon when we had two players named Jones on the team. Like, those are some of those where I'm like. Ryan: Kelly. Aaron: We don't need to post about them, but we also as Mississippi State fans, we take the ones we can get, and it still makes us look bad when they're like, it was nineteen twenty two, and it's like we probably should have seen Alabama undefeated before then. Chandler: Yeah, that was back when they played with Heinz ketchup bottles as footballs. Aaron: yeah, yeah. You know, it's it it's like those wins that Auburn talks about back in the good old days. yeah. Ryan: Yeah, six years you all right. I would love to play football in the nineteen twenties. I mean imagine us Chandler: There's so many so many Ryan: three on a football team in the nineteen twenties. Chandler: so many shots coming from from Aaron this year at Auburn. It's unbelievable. It's so it's so good. I mean you guys go out next weekend Aaron: Listen, this is what Mississippi State fans do. We we live in the dumpster for 10 years. Chandler: and beat Alabama and Aaron's gonna be the most insufferable person you've ever talked to. Ryan: No no no. Can't be worse than Florida fans. Aaron: I won't I won't even Ryan: You are being very respectful, actually. Florida fans don't know how to handle it. At least you know how to handle it a little bit. Yes, I'm Aaron: No. Ryan: good, but I'm being respectful. Florida fans are the most obnoxious people ever. I actually can't believe it. They don't know how to be good. It's good that they've sucked forever. They're actually so I can't take it. It's so bad. Aaron: Hey. We'll talk about Chandler: John. Aaron: them soon. No, if we beat Alabama, I'm not gonna have you two on the show. I'm just gonna show up here by myself. Yeah, yeah. You know, Chandler: He's gonna have Camario Taylor on the show and he's gonna he's gonna get the get the guys on. He's gonna upgrade. Aaron: rustling up the cowbells. I do too. Ryan: Really like him. He kept doing this. I don't know what that is. That was hilarious. Him and the coach were doing that. It was funny. Chandler: so Missouri's Missouri's coach was like was asked how are you gonna handle the cowbells? And he was like, Yeah, we've had like thirty cowbells out of practice like playing it around. I'm like th thirty? You're gonna need a lot of board. Well, apparently they paid some Ryan: Thirty tho thirty thousand times two. Aaron: And that's still that's still not even enough. Thirty thousand's like half. Chandler: apparently they had some clip inside of Mississippi State Stadium at the end of the game that like compiled all that together. And I Aaron: I the thing is, is I do like, like I've said many times, is the cowbell an unnecessary advantage for Mississippi State? Chandler: Yes. Aaron: Yes. Is it unfair? Yes. Let us have it. Like, yeah. Listen, Chandler: Is it obnoxious even on TV? Yes. Ryan: it's obnoxious. Aaron: I'm a Mississippi State fan. Everything I'm gonna say out here, if you're a Mississippi State fan, take your headphones off. Don't listen to this. We have cowbells all over the place in the house. We're Mississippi State fans. I have toddlers. I've encouraged them. I'm like, touch down, shake it. There are times I'm like, I don't tell them where it is. I don't bring it out because it's so loud. Like I on the TV, it does not do it justice. How loud cowbells get, especially an entire stadium forum. And like I said, when we're there, it's clang a time. It does not matter what's happening in that game. You just rattle cowbells. It Chandler: Just shake it. Aaron: never stops. So it's like Yeah. yeah. Ryan: Shake it. Bring it up. Shake it. Wait, I have a question. You know don't do it. Chandler: Thought we Colin Simmons on the show again. Ryan: But w give me an overunder of how long it would take you to get a cowbell. From your chair right now. Yeah yeah. Like how many seconds? Aaron: Right now from my chair, less than ten seconds. Ryan: Okay, that's great. That's what I wanted to hear. Aaron: Yeah, at at any point it the only reason Ryan: No, don't get it. I just wanted to know. Aaron: I'm not no the only reason it's taking me that long is because I have to keep them out of my recording office because I keep messing with them or hitting them when I'm recording. So I took them all out of here. but yes, there's Ryan: That's good. Aaron: almost placed throughout the house in ways that toddlers can get them and clang them when you've got a headache in the morning. I it will. Yeah. Ryan: We can put one on the shelf in the studio. No, I just wanted to see how fast you could I just wanted to Chandler: Bing bing bing bing bing bing bing. Ryan: see how fast you could whip one out. Aaron: I could whip it out for a 15 yard penalty anytime. but yeah, Ryan: It was a fire hose. Aaron: it was a fire hose. Yeah. Chandler: It sure sure was. Ryan: What? Aaron: But no, Mr. We stay here. Shout outs to my co-host from Of Mex and Men. He's a part of a Missouri family. So we watched this game together and with their family, and it was great. We had a good time. Chandler: Unfortunate for him. Aaron: yes, it was. Ryan: We're good. Aaron: But Missouri Missouri did show up this game. I'm not gonna say it was like a beatdown. They they it came down to the last drive. And as a Mississippi State fan, I'm always worried. I'm always like it's going too good for us. When does the pain start? So that last drive, when I saw we got the ball, we Missouri had three timeouts. I told Kanan, I'm sitting there going, We're gonna go three and out. We're gonna run the ball. We're not gonna get the first down. They're gonna get the ball back with about fifty-two seconds left on the clock. They got it back with fifty-one seconds left on the clock, and he said, I watch too much football. And Ryan: Yeah. We were watching that and I was like, Y'all gotta go score here. Missouri had three timeouts. They were obviously wasting the clock, but your defense is good. I was a little worried though, I love Kelly Jones. He's my typical six-four corner. There was two times he could have got an interception and put the game away and dropped it there at the end of the game. Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: But I this is the only game that I was like, no. Have they like figured out Camario? He gotta slow down a little in the second quarter. And then he just started acting like it's a nerf ball, just whipping it on the field. He actually has the best natural arm talent I think I've ever seen. It's actually so incredible. Aaron: It's it's weird to watch because there are those plays. Like now I'll see like third and 20, and I'm like, what's the big deal about third and twenty? He's gonna throw it 40. Like it I'm getting overconfident, because he can just throw that ball on a straight route. You'll see those wide receivers set at pretty much the sidelines. They just go straight, and then that ball just shows up. It just shows up exactly Ryan: And I like Aaron: where it needs to. Ryan: and I like your dreadman receiver. I thought he was a dead man, but then he he came Aaron: Ha ha. Ryan: back and was actually really good. Caught that diving catch. I really like him. He's really Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: fast. He always talk about the speed. Aaron: Yeah, the Evans connection is yeah, it Ryan: I missed connection. Yeah. Aaron: is very strong. Those are just two that's a quarterback and receiver clicking right now, where it's like he knows exactly where to put the ball for Evans, what's within his reach, where can Evans move to get it. If it is an overthrown ball, Evans goes and extends out for it. And because I'll say that is something we are seeing with Camario right now. All good things, but if I Ryan: I was surprised. Aaron: had to be nitpicky, when he is Hurrying, he tends to throw high. So if I was if I was looking at the defense of how do you stop Camario, probably set your safeties back a little bit. Look for some of those overthrown. If you you're bringing pressure in from the sides, set the safeties back and follow behind the routes to get some picks. I think that's what we'll see from him. Chandler: So I think and I think you mentioned it in your in when we were look talking pre-show, the the vulnerabilities on the left side of the offensive line. Aaron: Yep, fifty eight McVay. Chandler: I think if you can figure that out, which is obviously easier said than done, but if Ryan: And no it's easy. No, easy fix. Get him out of there. Aaron: No, and I'm gonna say McVeigh is a huge guy. Like you look at him, and when you start to see consistent holding penalties and things like that, normally you're putting your big guy up against the power option that's coming in from the edge last week at South Carolina. We had the same thing, great edge pressure coming in, and McVeigh was getting a flag almost every other play because he's up against that. What we're not adjusting to is we're not sending a tight end. We're not sending Fluff in there to double. And I get it, Fluff's our offense right now. We got to see Fluff this week more than we have previously. And he looks great. He's doing amazing. Chandler: He is fluffy. Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: Like me some fluff. I mean, he is a big boy. When we when you talk about meatball, he's a meatball. He'll run through you. Aaron: It I would say you could describe him as a meatball. Chandler: P is a meatball. Aaron: Yeah. And I love to see a lot of yards after contact for him. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: But I think when we are going for some of those, it we're using him as a check down a lot of the time. But if we're really struggling on that edge, we probably need to pull the check down because Camario's gonna throw it 40 yards downfield and score anyway. Pulling the pulling fluff into assisting McVay might give us a little bit more yards. Ryan: It's just an issue 'cause sometimes like he has to pick up a linebacker or a stunt or something. They usually come from the middle. Aaron: absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. Ryan: But it would be nice. I would think I just get a new new left tackle. Aaron: Hey, you know, whatever solves the issue. Yeah. Ryan: But like maybe anyone else. You know, I think that guy might be my second favorite tackle though. Chandler: Who's your first Ryan: The whole country. Anyone else? Chandler: Tegra? Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: Tegra and Clay Russa. And this guy. The bottom three. Chandler: Even though Quiz on defense. Ryan: Well, he lets him through as well. He'll still let him through. Aaron: Okay. But yeah, yeah, overall, Mississippi State played well. I thought Missouri played well too. I thought Missouri looked better than they have previously in the season. I thought Simmons was playing really well with attacking the middle. They had a lot of Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: cross routes going up, hitting us in that kind of spread out secondary, and I thought that's something they worked. very, very well to produce yards on us, which we've seen other teams not work to the fullest. The lot of trying to get the run game established, but not necessarily getting those linebackers trying to tuck back in and counter the big plays that we're doing with big plays on their own. Ryan: Yeah, he actually played pretty good. some guy in our TikTok comment said Ahmad Hardy was coming back this week, but he wasn't coming back, so I don't know what that was about either. But they they are kind Aaron: Hey, Ryan: of like a lesser team without him, even though he got shot in the leg, he's probably not the same now. But like we're saying, like they are like a prototypical twenty five overall like ranked team. So and they actually moved them back to twenty five now that the rank came. So I I actually sent that my prediction Chandler: Now they're back there. Aaron: With their back. I will say that's Ryan: because it's like a real thing. They had to put back at twenty-five. And you did it, Mississippi State. Aaron: That Ryan: Great job. Aaron: yeah, when I saw Missouri back at 25 this morning, I was so there was just a smile on my face. I it just like it felt like everything was right in the universe. I was like, this is where they should be. Like Missouri should you always get to be ranked, but no higher than 25. but yes, every week I feel a little more like Icarus flying closer to the sun. Just excited for when it all comes crashing down because I'm a Mississippi State fan and I just don't know how to handle us doing well. So you know, Camario for Heisman, I think we take the whole thing. Can I can I make it stop by saying all that now? and it's getting there. I'm getting worse. Every week I'm a little bit more like maybe there is a postseason world for us now. Maybe we do make the playoffs. So just know that I'm aware of the next five games we're playing. So I do. He does. Ryan: Love me some Camario though. And he's such a nice guy. I loved his interview too. He told her to be smooth and and Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: be safe on the way home. Like he's just such Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: a real guy. It's so funny. I love him. Aaron: He's incredible. On and off the field. Chandler: And he was dancing with one of the reporters. That was pretty cool. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: But let's head over to what some would probably describe as a surprise of the weekend. Vegas didn't think so, but the final score really did. So we had Florida. Ole Miss traveled to him, and Florida gave him the belt. 52-28, Florida's way, Jaden Baugh. Definitely inserting his name into the conversation of Great offensive players, if not Heisman candidate potential. So what did y'all see in this game? Chandler: You know, I'm gonna use the term the media uses. Jaden Baugh is playing himself into one of the best running backs in the country. Aaron: I like that. I like that. Chandler: no, in all seriousness, I think I did not see this coming. I Aaron: Mm-mm. Chandler: I didn't know what to expect when I saw the Auburn Florida game. I like of Florida. 'cause I always imagined DJ Durkin's defence not allowing them many points. So I was like, okay, either they're really good on offense and they can score a lot of points, or there was just a lot of missed cues on defense and they weren't calling the right plays, and it was just a disaster on defense. And I think it was a little bit of both. And now it's like you see them just take it to the number four team in the country. Now going into this game, my biggest thing was how one dimensional looking is Ole Miss gonna look without Kiwan. Because I think Kiwan is too much of an X factor when he's off the field. that regardless of how good your team is around him, it it it's going to have a drop off in production. and Aaron: Yeah, and Trinidad still looks incredible, still Chandler: Yes. Aaron: played great, but it's such an important thing to point out that Kewan Lacey wasn't there. And Kewan Lacey being in the backfield gives a lot of opportunity for Trinidad to play the way he does because you have such a threat there. So it it is something that I do feel like it's a small asterisk to throw Chandler: Yes. Aaron: on this score line. Chandler: But the defense Ryan: It's not changing that much. Like you're i key one being there, they're not scoring fifty points. Chandler: No, and that's what I was about to say. The the the thing to me that we've talked about all season was I don't know how good Ole Miss's secondary is on the back end. I thought they've always been a little leaky and Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: it really showed in the second half of this game, I with Florida scoring five straight touchdowns in the second half. I mean, it was just exposure, exposure, exposure, exposure. I mean it every single drive was just the highlight reel. So I think Florida found it. They made the halftime adjustments. They found the exploits and they did it. And they ran with it and they couldn't be stopped. And I mean, props to Florida. They jumped up to number eight and we'll see how they shake out the rest of the year. But that's an offense that when they were clicking, they looked pretty good. Aaron: I yeah, after that halftime, you could see Summer all put it together of like, okay, we know they're worried about ball. We know they're gonna make adjustments at halftime. We saw as soon as that defense started to pressure creep up into the line, that's when he'd go to the air with Philo. Philo played very consistently, dropped a lot of passes exactly where they needed to, but it was just like as soon as that would back off the next play, Ball would then run it on the outside, run it up through the middle. They and then until that stopped working or the pressure started coming, they just kept doing that and ball kept producing. Ryan: Yeah, and I think Jaden Ball is really good. Even last year, we saw him run the ball. Like he just runs, he churns, he goes through contact, he's really fast and shifty and big. He's like two hundred and thirty pounds and he moves like that. It's incredible. But I think it's a system thing. Blurda's like a very likable team to watch. And if I had one word to say, I know their offense has produced a lot, but when I watch their offense, it looks powerful. It's just like how in the world are you gonna stop this? It's like doot doot do do like score a touchdown. But even when Jaden Balk comes out, Deuce Clark just runs exactly the same for his many yards. They're both hundred plus yard running backs. And then like, yeah, you're up by that much. It's like, okay, I'm just gonna chug a bomb down there to Eric Singleton. Like it's incredible. And I like that they didn't stop at the end and they kept playing and they kind of just dominated. And that was that game. Did I can only do so much without Kiwan, like you're saying, when it's just him and Deuce Alexander out there playing, there's only so much you could do. And almost is the whole thing of their defense. I think their D-line is their best thing. And they were just kind of getting manhandled by the offensive line. Their offensive line's incredible. And I think that's what sets up the running backs a lot. And Buster Faulkner kind of switches schemes up a lot. And I kind of like his offense. But I mean, their fans are just unbearable. And Jaden Aaron: Okay. Ryan: Ball's uncle or dad sending him the Heisman trophy before every game is is just terrible. Like when Jeremia Smith's a person, you know, that's just ridiculous. Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: Yeah, I mean Ryan: But I like it. Chandler: having a family member you know, encourage your son and give him motivation before the game, you know, that that would be uncalled for Aaron: Yeah, yeah. Ryan: No no no no no no. You're not encouraging him. You're saying, Hey buddy, you're a high speed trophy winner. You are the high speed trophy winner. Remember that. This is your trophy. Aaron: You'll always be a Heisman Trophy winner in my heart. My very proud nephew. Ryan: Yeah. Trophy husband. Aaron: Hey. the No Ryan: Sorry. No, but I think their offense is great and their defense is okay. Like, they actually did pretty well. I mean they held Ole Miss who's like the third best team in the country to not enough points. That's good to see. Chandler: argue that they have one of the Aaron: I mean Chandler: best offenses in the country. Aaron: yeah. Yeah. Ryan: I would say that too. I I would say that. Aaron: Would say it's less of an argument, more of a statement. But it is something that I think when we were doing the predictions, I even predicted Florida takes this game, but it was like it's gonna be close. I think I had like thirty-four thirty-one, something along those lines. Didn't have fifty points on the board at Chandler: Mm mm. Aaron: all. Ryan: Yeah, that's the thing. I I wasn't shocked at the outcome, but I was surprised it was so there was such a disparity. They just looked so Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: dominant. And Olmus couldn't really move the ball that great and they just could not stop Florida. Their offense is literally Chandler: And listen, Ryan: unstoppable. Chandler: I'm not b arguing with the AP rankings is just a lost cause and you sh nobody should ever care about it. Just as long Aaron: It's fun to do, but no. Chandler: as your team wins, then you're gonna be okay. And but it's insane to me that Florida, the number twenty something ranked team, beats the breaks off of the number four team in the country and they drop like four slots. Aaron: Yep. Yep. Ryan: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I think it's because Olmus has solidif they th they think Ole Miss has solidified Chandler: Don't care the reason. Don't care about the reason. Unbelievable. Ryan: them there because like LSU's like 10, like, they beat L SU, they're up there. You know, they beat these teams. They almost lost to Louieville, who lost to Wake Forest this week, though, which we're not gonna cover. But you know, you start looking back, it doesn't make sense. But I'm saying in their head, they don't really care. Super recency bias. They're like, I can't drop them. They're actually better than number 10 LSU, who's still that good because they beat Texas St. So I'm just gonna shoot Florida up 'cause all those teams should stay up there. That's what they're thinking. Chandler: Yeah. Aaron: I mean, this is so much of a longer discussion that we I know we're gonna have in the offseason because I desperately want to have this one. The biggest problem with the AP poll is there's not a reason that we're ranking these teams. we just like there isn't Chandler: Like UCLA is now ranked. Aaron: well, it's more of what is the purpose of the ranking? Is it where the teams end up in the postseason? Is this how they're gonna look there? Is this how we're presenting them to look next week, or is that how they look right now? There's not really an answer there. It's kind of an analogous way of just saying which teams do we think should be ranked based off of what we said at preseason. And because that's what adjusts the teams. It's just like, well, they fall. There should be wilder shifts right now. In weeks one through four, there should be teams that were in the top 10 that are no longer ranked. There should be teams that were not ranked in the top 10. Because we're feeling Ryan: Oregon. Aaron: it out. yeah. Yeah. Where like we start seeing these, but it's like, well, we only have them still here because they were here last week. And it's like, but they lost embarrassingly. So Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: they probably shouldn't be there. And it's like, well, we did rank the team that beat them two slots higher than that. So AP rankings, the the only issue is it does affect postseason. When we start evaluating Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: losses, we talk about ranked wins, ranked losses. But when the rankings are a little out of whack, which I would say right now they feel a little out of whack. This one felt better in the last couple of weeks, but it takes a while for them to get dialed in. And Ryan: Yeah, I like I like that they have rankings, but yeah, this is probably like the worst way to do it. Aaron: Like it and we'll get into it more in the offseason, like I said. and it's fun to agree and disagree on where everything is. I'm sure you might see some of that coming from us in the near future. But all in all, an unpredictable game. and one that I would say was pretty exciting to watch. I think watching two teams play very well, but just one team taking advantage more offensively. Good one to Good one to be able to have clocked in on. So we will now transition over to one of the last games of the week and talk about Oregon and USC. Ryan: when I made my prediction this week, I was not playing for Dante Moore dying. And I feel bad because they say don't kick the dead horse or whatever. Like, I'm not trying to like be mean, but before the game, I was really mean to him. I always call him like terrible every week and stuff. So I feel really bad for him. I don't want him to be injured as a person. So it's really sad to see that he got all hurt during the game, but he isn't very good at quarterback. And whenever you bring someone like Dylan Rayola in, who even in the preseason, I was like, Chaler, you think like they'll start Dylan Rayola like no, no, no, no, Dante Moore's a third overall pick. I'm sure Dante Moore. No sorry, and well Well Well, Aaron: It's a weird noise for a weird voice for a man who is right. Chandler: You said I said that? Ryan: no, you just kinda agreed with it. Chandler: I did not say Dante Moore was a third overall pick. But you know, it's okay. Whatever you say, man. Ryan: Okay. No, no, no, no. You said that they will ups we we said they overestimate how good he is and they'll pick him third overall. I Chandler: Correct. Ryan: even agree with that. I even agree with that. But I'm saying, you know, you're like, he's gonna play. He's he's good, he's gonna play. Chandler: Course. Ryan: I was like, no. But Dylan Riola is amazing. It's literally Patrick Mahomes. And I am an Oregon hater and they're a terrible football team. But then you bring Dylan Riola in, you have an offense now. They're over there hugging him on the sideline. Because he's like, my goodness, I can't believe I have an offense. What's going on right now? Because he's not telling the other team when they're passing or throwing. And you have Patrick Mahomes on your team and you're able to run the ball again. It's amazing. And I think I'm a I'm an Oregon truther now. And they are the truth. Dylan Rayola is the truth Chandler: I'm I'm Ryan: Dylan Royola is the guy. Is the guy. And I'm so glad he's playing that even if Dante Moore, I hope he gets really good soon. But no, he's not gonna play again when he comes back. They're gonna play a couple terrible teams. Dylan Royola threw for 300 yards off the bench. No one's ever done that. And two touchdowns. He's incredible. I can't wait to see their team more. And their defense Chandler: Okay. Ryan: actually kinda held up. Their defense hasn't been good. It kinda held up. I'm kind of thinking less of Jane Mayava though, because he kinda isn't a superstar like he does. He's kind of a game manager. He kind of just does what's in front of him. Doesn't do a whole lot extra. But I really like Dan Lanning's offensive schemes. They weren't super crazy dynamic plays and a bunch of like trickery and reverses and screens. I love it. It's a lot of eye candy. And I really like it. But they were actually able to handle it. And Koi Perrich, I Koi Perrich. I forgot he's on there. I have an organ truther now. This is the biggest flip of the week. Bi wait. Aaron: I Chandler, we've gotta schedule an MRI or something. I think watching Auburn football is damaging his brain. This Ryan: No no no no no! Aaron: is a different man than w Chandler: Well, to be fair, this is the first ob Oregon game he's actually watched cover to cover this year. Ryan: That's not true. That is not true. That's not true. I watched all Chandler: Yeah. Ryan: of them and they're terrible. Except Dylan Rayola is the best quarterback in the country now, besides Trinidad Chambliss. Aaron: I did not expect it. I this is Chandler: So Aaron: a flip of all time. Ryan: That my new most improv my new most improved team in the country is Oregon. It's no longer Notre Dame. Chandler: So I'm gonna s I'm gonna start by saying whenever Dante Moore comes back, he's gonna be playing. He's gonna be starting. Aaron: Yes. Yeah. Ryan: No, no, he should not. He should be kicked off the t well, okay. Even in my every that's why I feel so bad. Because even in my pre-thing this week, I said, you know, well, that's why I feel so bad. Even in my pre even in my pre-show Chandler: I mean this guy's in the hospital bed right now, hooked up to IVs and he's just this dog just throttling him. Aaron: Yeah. Fighting for his life out here. Ryan: interview, I said they have all this great talent except for Dante Moore. I feel really Aaron: Yes. Ryan: bad. Because guys, if you I know everyone's su seen it by now, but like Aaron was saying, we should describe things better. He kinda got plastered by a guy. super late hit. It was pretty egregious. I think people are over Aaron: I it it was dirty. Yeah. Ryan: analyzing it a little. Like they're being a little over dramatic just because Dante Moore got hurt so bad, but it was pretty egregious. Aaron: It was it was it was flagrant, it was bad, it was just a Yeah. Chandler: I think it was one of the more dirty hits I've seen, for sure. Ryan: Okay, okay, okay, okay. But if you've played football, Chandler: His knee was on the ground already. Ryan: no okay. If you watch it though, it's very bang bang. Like it was a pretty late slide. But there is like I'm gonna give the guy a benefit of the doubt. When you're playing football, you your kind of main goal is like I'm taught to like kill that guy that's running out in the middle of the field and inflict fear in him so that he doesn't want to run out anymore. Cause running backs are all kind of clunky and run around, you're like, I don't want him out in the field. I'm gonna inflict fear so he doesn't do this again. So you're like, I'm gonna kill that guy, and when he slides a second, there's like a wall where there's like if it's 0.1 second late, that like I'm going, I'm going. I passed that wall that I can no longer stop, but I'm stuck in the animation, and you cream him. But then, like, that kind of killer just you can't like turn that off very easily. He was just point one seconds too late. But then after the play, he was celebrating and laughing and dancing. That's terrible. That's unacceptable. Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: But I'm saying it was a cheap hit. I don't think he intended to hurt him that bad. because like even when you play football, like you don't really think there's implications to hitting someone that bad. You just know that's your job. I'm gonna hit him. He's just kind of running out there. And if you played football for it, like you know that's a thing. But it was still Chandler: Yeah, that's fair. That's fair. Ryan: a dirty hit. He just went like one step. Too far and ended up really bad. And I feel really bad for Dante Moore, 'cause no matter how bad I talk about him as a as a player, I really like him as a person. He's just another guy like us. Like I don't wanna see him with brain damage or anything for us. Like I feel really bad for him. But Aaron: No, no, you you never want to see an injury. And I Ryan, I do agree that like when we talk about late slides and things like that, contacts happen. I'll say it kind of crosses into the dirty threshold when he keeps the shoulder lowered, and you're not seeing like him make any defensive attempt to lessen the impact of the hit, which is the expectation on defensive players. I as I've talked about many times, that is unfair to put on a defensive player, but it is the way we have the game structured right now. I would say the part where it turns nasty is the afterward celebration. a guy, you know, miming pissing on somebody he just laid out. Well, that's one thing. It's disrespectful, but that person's getting up. And we're going to play the next down. He can do something about it. Dancing around, showboating. When you got somebody on the ground who's obviously on the ground. Like this isn't Ryan: Yeah. Aaron: Dante Moore wasn't questionably getting up. He was out. And then to me, I think the big thing is this wasn't addressed on the sideline. That's something where a one of your coordinators or head coach comes over and gets on you. At that point, I'm not saying Lincoln Riley should not be, you know, keeping his players contained, but somebody should be on him. And then they didn't send him to the lock. After that hit, that seems like one where like the teams are obviously hot blooded. You send him back to the locker room while they're dealing with the injury on the field, but they had him out there and now afterwards they're like, we suspended him, we've done these things. Should have been addressed there. and I feel like that's kind of just something we're seeing at a USC right now, where it we're it's the program's not in the place it should be, and these might be some of those little tells to where. We're going with it. Ryan: Yeah, like this unacceptable. He's two a tag of violing on the field and like spasming. It's carted off the field in a neck brace on the field for like eight minutes. And you're like cheering and like laughing about it. That's unacceptable. You have to have some concern for human life. Even if you like do it during the game, there's a separation to like I'm not like in the play right now. And then he can come to the realization this isn't okay. You know what I'm saying? Chandler: So flipping to the the actual game that happened, Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. Chandler: I mean Jaden Maiava did throw for three twenty six and they did have four hundred plus yards of offense. But the problem is two for eleven on third down doesn't cut it. Aaron: No, no. Chandler: I mean, that's a whole lot of positions where your punters come on the field where you could convert and extend extend drives and get more points and make this game closer or potentially pull out the game. So I think that's the big sticking point like offensively for USC was the third down conversions was atrocious. I think I don't Aaron: Yeah. Chandler: think Jade Maiava ever put the ball in harm's way. I mean, it it didn't Ryan: Mm. Chandler: look like he was just frantically running around trying to make things happen. I mean, it's just the third down conversions, if you just drill down to that specifically, it just won't cut it. Ryan: He did throw that one bomb over the middle. I thought that was really great. But other than that, he kinda just takes what's in front of him. Yeah, and he doesn't put the Chandler: Yes. But I do think that Yes. Ryan: ball in harm's way, but he doesn't go above and beyond and make things happen. Chandler: But I think Oregon, like I like I predicted, had to win this game. And Aaron: Yes. Yeah. Chandler: I think Dante Moore stays in this game, the outcome could be differently different. I think Dylan Royola coming Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: I I I think so. Chandler: in off the bench, throwing for three hundred yards, is unbelievable. I think he looked great at Nebraska. I think he kept Nebraska in a lot of games when he was there for two years. He had a couple scares with Ohio State when they came to Ohio State and played. He he's a problem. He's he's good at football. He makes things happen. He makes a lot happen with less and he's gonna have a good career. But I think that him coming in that game saved Oregon winning that game by that much in that convincing line. Aaron: Well, and Ryan: Same. Aaron: I'll also I I want to give Oregon the credit here as a team. Rayola comes in, steps up, produces. But I also think this is one of those moments that we've kind of talked about. Like Oregon has all of this talent and potential, but they this was a moment where they really rallied together as a team. Like things started firing together. And that's something we haven't seen. And that could just be one of those moments that it's like, everything got real for a second because one of your friends Is down on the field being medically attended to might just be a moment of perspective that players on the team needed for this game. Not to say, you know, we needed Dante Moore to get injured. Shouldn't, you know, we never want an injury. We Chandler: Correct. Aaron: never want to see somebody taken out of game. And it is something in that moment, though, organ rallied, because this was a back and forth up until that point. It was very close, normally one possession game. And after that, yeah, Dylan Rayola comes in firing. Defense is firing, slows down USC's production. Oregon is just pushing forward. So we'll see if this does translate. If this is something, you know, we wish Dante Moore the best in recovery, but we'll see if game to game this does continue to translate for them. So we'll have to peek in next week. Ryan: And I like USC's offense. I think it's really good and dynamic. And I think even their defense didn't really play that bad. They just kind of got manhandled by Oregon. And yeah, the entire team was different. Dylan Real has stepped in, and even the defense was different. It's like we were like, where is this that Dan Lanning's doing less with more? And apparently Dylan Real is the glue. If Dan Lanning's sitting there at a camp and he has a bunch of these sticks, and they're all really good sticks, so they make a great bonfire, but he doesn't know how to start the fire. Dylan Rayola was the fire. You have a fire to camp now. You're warm. You're doing great. You know, you're not gonna freeze to death. Because Dylan Rayola made a fire out of those great sticks and all that great talent that they had. It's it's wonderful. It's amazing what can what you can do when the other team doesn't know what play you're gonna run. Aaron: Yeah. Ryan: I'm sorry though, Dante Moore. Chandler: very briefly, Wisconsin beating Penn State. Good job. Aaron: I was gonna bring this up because I think this is the first time Penn State has fans have come out and called me stupid. they called all of us stupid many times. so that was new. I was waiting for it to happen. I thought like it's about time Penn State shows up, and I knew when we said Wisconsin might win this game, that that would come out. And that was reacted to very negatively. And I wanna say, well, well, well. Look at where we are. Ryan: I mean me Chandler: Well Ryan: and A Aaron, we were one point off from perfectly guessing that game. Aaron: I know. I know. That like as I'm watching and I just cause it's definitely it's one of my games that is up and on mute. I'm just like looking over and I'm like, we're getting really close here. This this could happen. Ryan: Mm-hmm. Aaron: And then when it did, I looked over to my wife very smugly and said, Me and Ryan were very close to predicting that to happen. And she said, You're unbearable. So, Penn State fans and get that right. I'm unbearable. But not that dumb. Most of the time. So Ryan: You know, that was a good game though. But like Jordan said, the X factor there was could James People run for 180 yards and two touchdowns? He ran for sixty-seven. That's not enough. Aaron: But still an exciting upset. Penn State, this is what happens. when you try to say James Franklin can't do it for you, you want to beat Ohio State every year. Well, now you gotta beat Wisconsin. So good luck. rest of the season's looking great. Chandler: Hopefully got some cheese curds. Aaron: Yep. Yeah. But had him bring him with him. Ryan: yeah. We had one a clip one week and it was cheese curves good, football bad. This week football could, Penn State bad. Mm hmm. Double good, just like double home field advantage that Aaron gives everybody. Chandler: And cheese curd good. Double good. Aaron: Yeah. Double good, can stay bad. Double home field advantage. You gotta give them that. Chandler: Yep, three here, three there. Everybody gets a three. Aaron: It it worked out well for everything except the primetime slot forming. So Ryan: But we didn't play Chandler: That's okay. Ryan: the ORG game, you couldn't predict them putting Patrick Mahomes in the game. Like how in the wor and Aaron: It's true. Ryan: I don't even like Patrick Mahomes at NFL, but imagine him in college. We got to see it. I can't believe it. Aaron: Yeah. It was around the time you were born, I think. so Ryan: He threw for seven hundred yards against Oklahoma one year and lost. The Baker Mayfield, who also threw for seven hundred yards. And Dylan Earl is still Aaron: Well, Ryan: doing that. Aaron: John Mateir threw negative two yards for one play and a live ball, and Georgia scored on it. So I'm sure we're gonna see more excitement like that when we get back next week for week five of college football. You'll hear us before then though, because we'll be back with our predictions pick'em episode Thursday morning. So look forward to that. Thank you all that have been out here supporting the show. Thank you all. Even if you're in our short form content calling us idiots based on our prediction, I love it. I love to see it. I'm glad you take time out of your day to post that because it does fuel me on Saturday for hoping that the score goes the way I predicted it to. But I enjoy it for all the engagement, good or bad. anybody who is following, liking, interacting with all the content, whether it's short or long. It helps us so much. The show's growing every week. Scarily so. And it's great. So thank you once again. We'll be back Thursday with Pick'ems for week four. We'll see you there. Ryan: Bye bye.
