- 0:00Speaker 1: Specific interest to us, this dreadful case of the keeping woman.
- 0:02Speaker 1: What can you tell us in California.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Yeah, this is truly just such a distressing story, Mike. Sadly,
- 0:08Speaker 2: it appears to be simply a case of a wrong place,
- 0:11Speaker 2: wrong time. The sixty nine year old woman was simply
- 0:14Speaker 2: standing outside a bookstore with her husband in Newport, California,
- 0:18Speaker 2: when she was approached by at least three armed men
- 0:20Speaker 2: who robbed her. They then ran over her in their
- 0:23Speaker 2: getaway car, all while opening fire on bystanders. It is
- 0:27Speaker 2: just a shocking, shocking act. It all happened, you know,
- 0:29Speaker 2: only a matter of minutes. It happened in broad daylight
- 0:32Speaker 2: around three point thirty pm this attack occurred. Police say.
- 0:35Speaker 2: The suspects continued to fire their weapons as they drove away.
- 0:39Speaker 2: The attack initiated a police pursuit where speeds reached nearly
- 0:43Speaker 2: one hundred and eighty kilometers an hour. Finally, those men
- 0:47Speaker 2: were arrested. I do want to point out, Mike that
- 0:49Speaker 2: authorities keep insisting this type of thing doesn't happen in
- 0:52Speaker 2: places like Newport, California, But the fact is we are
- 0:55Speaker 2: hearing more and more of these awful armed robbery type
- 0:59Speaker 2: crimes happening right out of the country. Certainly California appears
- 1:03Speaker 2: to be a hot spot for this sort of crime.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And really, this is just an awful incident that sadly
- 1:08Speaker 2: has claimed the life of this New Zealand woman.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Exactly. I'm hearing a lot of ed reports about Los
- 1:13Speaker 1: Angeles these days, Washington, Biden, how much pressure.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yes, we're talking of bad reports. The news is just
- 1:21Speaker 2: getting worse and worse for the Democrats and Joe Biden
- 1:24Speaker 2: in particular. Of course, we've had so much talk about
- 1:27Speaker 2: that disastrous debate against Donald Trump, but things now finally
- 1:31Speaker 2: seem to be getting serious. Texas Representative Lloyd Doggett has
- 1:35Speaker 2: become the first Democrat to break ranks and publicly call
- 1:38Speaker 2: for Biden to step aside. And this comes after with
- 1:41Speaker 2: her just NonStop persistent rumors of panic amongst the Democrats,
- 1:46Speaker 2: talk of private meetings between high ranking party members all
- 1:50Speaker 2: desperate to work out what to do about their Biden problem.
- 1:54Speaker 2: We have just heard today that part of their renewed
- 1:56Speaker 2: effort to calm the public is that Biden has agreed
- 2:00Speaker 2: to an interview with ABC News tomorrow night. To be honest, Mike,
- 2:03Speaker 2: it's hard to see what that's going to do. At
- 2:06Speaker 2: this point. He's also set Yeah, he's also set to
- 2:09Speaker 2: meet Democratic governors in Washington next week in person. They
- 2:12Speaker 2: have demanded an in person meeting. But this is all
- 2:15Speaker 2: happening is We've got new polls out today showing Donald
- 2:18Speaker 2: Trump taking a three point edge over Biden in battleground states,
- 2:22Speaker 2: a two point edge nationally. That's not actually a huge
- 2:25Speaker 2: shift in terms of the numbers, But what is interesting
- 2:28Speaker 2: is that we're now hearing from that poll that Democrat
- 2:31Speaker 2: voters feel less motivated to actually go out and vote
- 2:34Speaker 2: as a result of Biden's disastrous debate, And of course
- 2:37Speaker 2: voting is not compulsory thing it so that is a
- 2:40Speaker 2: massive problem for the Democrats and as at this stage,
- 2:43Speaker 2: it's just really hard to see this ending well for
- 2:46Speaker 2: Biden or the party.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Well one a's a pleasure, Catherine, ketchup next week. Appreciate
- 2:49Speaker 1: it very much. Catherine Ferken out of the States for US.
