- 0:30Speaker 2: Morning, everybody, Happy Friday. How's everybody feeling this morning?
- 0:33Speaker 3: Doing good?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Excellent? Got a lot to get to. Hag Seth was
- 0:37Speaker 2: given a update this morning. We have another American plane
- 0:41Speaker 2: that has crashed in mysterious circumstances, and more service members
- 0:44Speaker 2: as a result of that crash killed at action. Brad
- 0:47Speaker 2: Lander is going to join us for an update on
- 0:48Speaker 2: his campaign. We've gotten a horrible update on those idea
- 0:52Speaker 2: of soldiers who were caught on camera raping a Palestinian detainee.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So a lot to get to this morning. But Mac,
- 0:58Speaker 2: if we could go ahead and start with some of
- 1:00Speaker 2: the comments. This am from Pete Hegsath given an update
- 1:05Speaker 2: on the Iran war and exactly how it's going, as
- 1:09Speaker 2: in many ways you know from the outside it appears
- 1:11Speaker 2: to be going quite poorly and quite sideways. But let's
- 1:14Speaker 2: go ahead and take a listen to us.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Maximized and our capabilities still bill building. We're going up,
- 1:21Speaker 4: they're going down. As I said from the start, President
- 1:25Speaker 4: Trump holds the cards. He'll determine the pace, the tempo,
- 1:30Speaker 4: and the timing of this conflict, his hand firmly on
- 1:33Speaker 4: the wheel as well as on the throttle, setting America
- 1:37Speaker 4: first peace through strength in action. From day one, as
- 1:42Speaker 4: our nation expects and the President demands, our warriors have
- 1:46Speaker 4: fought with lethality, precision, and rapid innovation. In fact, today
- 1:50Speaker 4: will be yet again the highest volume of strikes that
- 1:54Speaker 4: America has put over the skies of Iran and Tehran.
- 1:57Speaker 4: The number of sorties, number of bomber pulses the highest yet,
- 2:00Speaker 4: ramping up and only.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Up, ramping up and only up and mack. He also
- 2:05Speaker 2: got asked if you could pull us up about the
- 2:07Speaker 2: straight of hor moves and why there hadn't been planning
- 2:10Speaker 2: for this. In fact, there are reports now that the
- 2:13Speaker 2: political leadership of the US at least really underplayed the
- 2:17Speaker 2: pop prospect that Iran could shut down the Straight of
- 2:20Speaker 2: hor moves. The Navy has said, we are not in
- 2:22Speaker 2: a position to escort any of these oil tankers through Iran.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Continues we covered yesterday to be able to attack tankers
- 2:29Speaker 2: that do come close. So let's go ahead and listen
- 2:32Speaker 2: to how he responds to this.
- 2:35Speaker 5: You have said that the US mil day is essentially
- 2:38Speaker 5: aerial superiority, naval sepiority over Iran. Yet we're not escorting
- 2:43Speaker 5: ships to the Straight off you why how did you
- 2:45Speaker 5: not plan for this?
- 2:48Speaker 3: We planned for it, We recognize it.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Because ultimately we want to do it sequentially in a
- 2:54Speaker 4: way that makes the most sense for what we want
- 2:56Speaker 4: to achieve and ensure that we're we're sending the right
- 2:59Speaker 4: signals to the world when we do so. So when
- 3:02Speaker 4: Chris Wright speaks or we speak, it's based on a
- 3:04Speaker 4: full assessment of what we're up against, what we want
- 3:07Speaker 4: to say to the world, how that we want them
- 3:09Speaker 4: to see and understand the conflict. It's like this whole
- 3:11Speaker 4: idea of the war widening. That's what the press wants
- 3:14Speaker 4: to make it look like like it's widening and chaos.
- 3:16Speaker 4: And now we're actually closing in on grabbing hold of
- 3:20Speaker 4: and controlling what objectives we want to achieve and how
- 3:24Speaker 4: we want to achieve them. Shape. It's called shaping operations
- 3:26Speaker 4: and setting the conditions. But when you shape the environment,
- 3:29Speaker 4: you don't always tell I mean, foolish political leaders and
- 3:32Speaker 4: foolish military leaders of the past, we'll hang an exact
- 3:35Speaker 4: deadline on it, or here's exactly when we'll do what
- 3:37Speaker 4: we're going to do, or here's how long it's going
- 3:39Speaker 4: to take us. And then if you meet that, maybe
- 3:42Speaker 4: you meet it, but if you don't, you fail. And
- 3:44Speaker 4: if you're far beyond, we know exactly what we're shaping
- 3:46Speaker 4: and why we're sending those signals working across the Inner Agency.
- 3:49Speaker 4: The straight of Horror Moves is something we've paid attention
- 3:51Speaker 4: to from the beginning, and the American people can rest
- 3:54Speaker 4: assured we will ensure that our interests are advanced.
- 3:59Speaker 6: Guys, The strait of her moves is something we've paid
- 4:02Speaker 6: attention to from the beginning.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, as a US owned tanker is you know,
- 4:10Speaker 2: set a blaze and he mentions there, Chris ran, of course,
- 4:13Speaker 2: you and Ryan Emily covered the fact that he put
- 4:15Speaker 2: out that tweet. All the Navy escorted a ship through
- 4:17Speaker 2: a tanker through the Strait of hor Moves, then had
- 4:20Speaker 2: to delete the tweet. So all going according to plan.
- 4:24Speaker 2: According to it's.
- 4:25Speaker 7: Definitely not a regional war, definitely not a world war
- 4:28Speaker 7: going on here. Everything is fine. We're condensing it and
- 4:30Speaker 7: bringing it all together.
- 4:32Speaker 2: That's right. Let's play one war from mister Hegsatt before
- 4:36Speaker 2: we get to some of the additional updates here. He
- 4:39Speaker 2: made a comment about the Iranian leaders saying that right
- 4:43Speaker 2: now they are hiding like rats. Let's take a listen
- 4:46Speaker 2: to that.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Ron's leadership is in no better shape, desperate and hiding.
- 4:51Speaker 4: They've gone underground powering. That's what rats.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Do We know?
- 4:58Speaker 4: The new so called not supreme leader is wounded and
- 5:03Speaker 4: likely disfigured. You put out of statement yesterday, a weak
- 5:07Speaker 4: one actually, but there was no voice and there was
- 5:11Speaker 4: no video.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It was a written statement.
- 5:14Speaker 4: He called for unity. Apparently, killing tens of thousands of
- 5:18Speaker 4: protesters is his kind of unity.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So he says there they're hiding underground like rats. Mac Meanwhile,
- 5:26Speaker 2: actually in a show of pretty extreme courage and defiance.
- 5:30Speaker 2: A number of top Iranian both military and political leaders,
- 5:34Speaker 2: including the President of Iran, were marching through the streets
- 5:37Speaker 2: of Tehran during a pro government march and no security detail,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you know, as their country is being bombed. You know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: especially when you think about you know, you would never
- 5:51Speaker 2: see Trump just marching through crowd of Americans here without
- 5:54Speaker 2: the country being bombed. It was a pretty pretty extraordinary
- 5:57Speaker 2: show of defiance there.
- 5:58Speaker 6: I would say they're probably resigned to the likelihood that
- 6:02Speaker 6: their fate is in the balance at this moment. It
- 6:07Speaker 6: reminds me of Ryan your debate with Corey Mills on
- 6:09Speaker 6: Piers Morgan yesterday where he said, he said, the people
- 6:13Speaker 6: are in the streets clamoring for Rezapoloy, for the shot
- 6:17Speaker 6: to return, and clearly it's as though he has only
- 6:21Speaker 6: seen the footage of the people in the streets clamoring
- 6:25Speaker 6: for the shot to return, and not the footage of
- 6:27Speaker 6: people in the streets backing the IRGC, backing the Iranian regime,
- 6:33Speaker 6: which is basically what we just saw in the images
- 6:36Speaker 6: Mac put up on the screen. You really, what did
- 6:39Speaker 6: you tell him, Ryan? It was like an elementary school
- 6:40Speaker 6: foreign policy.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yeah, he's like, we need to kill this bad guy.
- 6:43Speaker 8: We're going to kill that bad guy, and then we're
- 6:45Speaker 8: gonna put resin and it's going to be great, and
- 6:47Speaker 8: he's gonna we're gonna transition to democracy. I don't know
- 6:50Speaker 8: if you have it, Mac, but I think it's on
- 6:52Speaker 8: Mas's twitter feed.
- 6:53Speaker 3: There's this.
- 6:53Speaker 8: There's also this incredible footage of Israel bombing very close
- 6:57Speaker 8: to this rally. So all these all these people are
- 7:02Speaker 8: out in the streets and you see this, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 8: miniature mushroom cloud from an explosion in the short distance,
- 7:09Speaker 8: and the crowd just kind of cheers, you know this
- 7:13Speaker 8: with this like you know, shout of defiance. So yes,
- 7:17Speaker 8: far from I think cowering like rats in a cave
- 7:20Speaker 8: or whatever.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Yeah, here it is.
- 7:23Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a lot of people who risk their lives
- 7:25Speaker 6: for the regime.
- 7:27Speaker 8: Yeah, and I've talked about this before. In September when Posesskian,
- 7:32Speaker 8: the Iranian president, was in New York and he had
- 7:34Speaker 8: a little press briefing that I was part of in Manhattan,
- 7:39Speaker 8: and he said then he kind of talked openly about
- 7:43Speaker 8: the fact that he's, you know, probably going to get
- 7:45Speaker 8: killed and did he said, there was a lot he
- 7:49Speaker 8: still wanted to do with his life, a lot he
- 7:50Speaker 8: wanted to read, a lot he wanted to do. See,
- 7:53Speaker 8: he wasn't at all looking forward to that, and it
- 7:56Speaker 8: was kind of surreal to hear him talk about that,
- 7:58Speaker 8: and in a way where he doesn't have a like
- 8:01Speaker 8: fatal cancer diagnosis, but is still talking about that. He's
- 8:05Speaker 8: you know, likelihood of him dying at any moment. There
- 8:08Speaker 8: was there were a lot of rumors that he'd been
- 8:09Speaker 8: killed in the first hours of the war. Those clearly
- 8:13Speaker 8: those rumors were untrue. But he said that they had
- 8:15Speaker 8: developed a succession plan that was six or seven people deep.
- 8:19Speaker 8: And it really goes to the folly of that of
- 8:22Speaker 8: the Cory Mills approach to this, Like so they could
- 8:25Speaker 8: I if that if that bombing that that Mac just
- 8:29Speaker 8: played had instead landed right on the crowd where Possession
- 8:33Speaker 8: was and killed him, it doesn't end the regime remotely.
- 8:37Speaker 8: In fact, IRGC doesn't really like posesskiin they think he's
- 8:41Speaker 8: far too liberal, far too much a reformist and like
- 8:45Speaker 8: pops off and says stuff that he then has to
- 8:47Speaker 8: backtrack from because there they have a they have a
- 8:51Speaker 8: political system with rivals, rival camps, rival factions. It's horizontal,
- 8:57Speaker 8: it's deeply embedded in the country. It be like going
- 9:00Speaker 8: in and like Iran killing the governor of Mississippi and
- 9:03Speaker 8: being like we did regime change, Like no, the lieutenant
- 9:08Speaker 8: governor is now the governor. Like, well, we have we
- 9:11Speaker 8: have a state house, we got a state Senate, we
- 9:13Speaker 8: have all these like mayors and cities like you.
- 9:17Speaker 3: What they're like, No, we have a guy in Tehran.
- 9:21Speaker 2: He's gonna come over. Yeah, he's.
- 9:25Speaker 8: He's We've been grooming him to be the king of
- 9:27Speaker 8: Mississippi and then there'll be a transition back to democracy.
- 9:31Speaker 2: People are going to welcome him with open will be
- 9:33Speaker 2: created as a liberator. I mean, think about your example,
- 9:39Speaker 2: just to think about it from another perspective. You know,
- 9:41Speaker 2: Hegseth is up there bragging them, Oh my god, we're
- 9:43Speaker 2: bombing this. We're bombing that. We're showing no mercy. It's
- 9:46Speaker 2: not a fair playing field. We never meant it for
- 9:49Speaker 2: it to be a fair playing field. No one is
- 9:51Speaker 2: under any illusion about the fact, yes, America can bomb
- 9:54Speaker 2: the hell out of any place. Is that accomplishing your goals?
- 9:59Speaker 2: What even are your because they change every day, So
- 10:02Speaker 2: there's no way to even say if you're accomplishing any
- 10:05Speaker 2: particular goal. But you know, by any objective rational assessment,
- 10:10Speaker 2: right now, what you have is a situation where Iran
- 10:13Speaker 2: is actually much more likely to pursue a nuclear weapon
- 10:17Speaker 2: given the opportunity. You have a new iotol in charge
- 10:19Speaker 2: who is reportedly more hardline. You are destroying your own
- 10:24Speaker 2: economy with the you know, with the the closure of
- 10:28Speaker 2: the Strait of Hormuz. The oil price is going up.
- 10:30Speaker 2: By the way, there's some speculation that Chargery may actually
- 10:33Speaker 2: be intervening to try to suppress oil prices. That's unconfirmed,
- 10:36Speaker 2: but I think that is very much a possibility. Right
- 10:40Speaker 2: You've convinced your golf Arab allies that having these US
- 10:44Speaker 2: bases in their country has been a disaster for them
- 10:46Speaker 2: and made them a target rather than providing them protection.
- 10:50Speaker 2: But in any case, you know, let's say you dropped
- 10:52Speaker 2: that bomb, like you said, Ryan, right on the Iranian
- 10:55Speaker 2: president there, and a bunch of civilians get killed as well.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Do you think that's going to lead this to billion
- 11:00Speaker 2: population to then rise up against the Iranian government or
- 11:04Speaker 2: do you think that is going to further unite them
- 11:07Speaker 2: against the US and Israel. And the countries that are
- 11:09Speaker 2: attacking them and murdering them, because that's the other thing
- 11:12Speaker 2: that you're seeing, And there's a piece in the Financial Times,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and this is just basic logic and also you know,
- 11:17Speaker 2: reflects the history of one hundred years of these air
- 11:19Speaker 2: campaigns were not a single time as it worked for
- 11:22Speaker 2: just an air campaign to successfully effectuate regime change, and
- 11:26Speaker 2: it didn't work in Gaza either, by the way. But
- 11:28Speaker 2: in any case, yeah, people are much more likely to
- 11:31Speaker 2: unify and rally around the flag and say, I may
- 11:34Speaker 2: not like this government, but I do like, you know,
- 11:37Speaker 2: being able to send my kids to school. I do
- 11:39Speaker 2: like not having my country bombed by these you know,
- 11:43Speaker 2: by these foreign countries. And so the you know, the
- 11:46Speaker 2: idea that you were just going to bomb the hell
- 11:48Speaker 2: out of this place and be able to effectuate whatever
- 11:51Speaker 2: ends that they thought they were going to be able
- 11:53Speaker 2: to effectuate is just utterly preposterous.
- 11:57Speaker 8: And did you see, by the way, Jim Kramer too
- 12:01Speaker 8: incredible not to make sure that there's nobody in the
- 12:04Speaker 8: country who hasn't seen Jim Gramer's pose. He said, they
- 12:09Speaker 8: are taunting us with two hundred dollars oil. They do
- 12:11Speaker 8: not have the cards. Our military must be unleashed time
- 12:14Speaker 8: to do what we did to Hanoi to get them
- 12:17Speaker 8: to the table. And then it's one of the best
- 12:21Speaker 8: community notes in Twitter history. The US lost the Vietnam
- 12:24Speaker 8: War and had to withdraw f y.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I case you were.
- 12:31Speaker 6: Another Vietnam boys.
- 12:34Speaker 8: We relentlessly bombed Hanoi. We did like, we absolutely did.
- 12:37Speaker 8: Like we can do that, we can, we can. We
- 12:41Speaker 8: killed probably millions of Vietnamese, like we have the capacity
- 12:44Speaker 8: to do that.
- 12:47Speaker 7: But there was a lot of Americans.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Americans, And to that point, Emily, we have four
- 12:54Speaker 2: more confirmed deceased in the loss of this refueling aircraft
- 13:00Speaker 2: that went down yesterday in Western and Rock. They say
- 13:03Speaker 2: four of six crew members is of course the official
- 13:05Speaker 2: statement from Sentcom here four of six crew members on
- 13:08Speaker 2: board the aircraft confirmed to seased as rescue efforts continue,
- 13:11Speaker 2: meaning the other two crew members, not accounted for the
- 13:14Speaker 2: circumstances of the incident are under investigation. However, the loss
- 13:18Speaker 2: of the aircraft was not due to hostile fire or
- 13:22Speaker 2: friendly fire. The identities of the service members are being
- 13:26Speaker 2: withheld currently and so this marks the fourth American aircraft
- 13:31Speaker 2: that has crashed in strange or mysterious circumstances, and now
- 13:37Speaker 2: we have a mounting death toll here. We also had
- 13:41Speaker 2: Soger and I covered yesterday that they had originally covered
- 13:44Speaker 2: up the number of significant casualties coming out of that
- 13:48Speaker 2: first day of strikes where you know, a number of
- 13:51Speaker 2: our service members were killed in several more tocumb to
- 13:54Speaker 2: their wounds. They covered up the numbers there, and now
- 13:57Speaker 2: we have more details about additional casualties that are being
- 14:02Speaker 2: you know, flown out to receive care, which is an
- 14:04Speaker 2: indication of the you know, severity of the wounds that
- 14:06Speaker 2: they suffered. So you know, the government is lying to
- 14:09Speaker 2: us about the casualty numbers. That much is proven at
- 14:12Speaker 2: this point, and so I don't think it is conspiratorial
- 14:14Speaker 2: to to wonder if you're getting the straight story about
- 14:17Speaker 2: all of these various American aircraft that keep randomly falling
- 14:20Speaker 2: out of the sky but definitely have nothing to do with,
- 14:22Speaker 2: you know, with Iranian action.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Well, and we learned in the Reuters follow up to
- 14:29Speaker 6: the initial report of injuries, and this was the Saudi base.
- 14:34Speaker 7: I believe it.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Was also had traumatic effects on like traumatic brain injuries
- 14:40Speaker 6: from service members, like life altering injuries, not you know,
- 14:45Speaker 6: the deaths are bad enough, and then you add to
- 14:48Speaker 6: it service members who have been maimed. Their lives changed forever,
- 14:53Speaker 6: and we didn't know about that until we got the
- 14:56Speaker 6: follow up. So already I mean wreaking serious devastation on
- 15:01Speaker 6: American serving abroad.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and two weird incidents too, involving are two different
- 15:08Speaker 2: of our aircraft carriers. We've got this incident involving the
- 15:13Speaker 2: USS Abraham Lincoln. They say an Iranian vessel sailed too closely.
- 15:19Speaker 2: A us US Navy vessel attempted to fire on the
- 15:23Speaker 2: Iranian vessel using its Mark forty five gun mounted to
- 15:26Speaker 2: the forward deck, but missed multiple times, and ultimately a
- 15:31Speaker 2: helicopter had to come in and hit it with hell
- 15:35Speaker 2: fire missiles. So that's, you know, not a great sign
- 15:38Speaker 2: that we were just repeatedly missing this Iranian vessel. And
- 15:41Speaker 2: then you have this one, the Gerald Ford, which I
- 15:44Speaker 2: believe this is the one that had all of the
- 15:46Speaker 2: bathroom the problem.
- 15:47Speaker 7: Yeah, the overflowing p and poop on the ship.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the the p and poop carrier. They experienced
- 15:53Speaker 2: a fire now that originated, they say, in the ship's
- 15:56Speaker 2: main laundry spaces. The cause of the fire was not
- 15:58Speaker 2: combat related and is content no damage to the ship's
- 16:01Speaker 2: propulsion plant. Aircraft carrier remains fully operational. Two sailors currently
- 16:05Speaker 2: receiving medical treatment for non life threatening injuries are in
- 16:08Speaker 2: stable condition. Additional info will be provided when available. Gerald R.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Ford Carry Strike Group currently operating in the Red Seat
- 16:16Speaker 2: and support of Operation Epstein Fury.
- 16:19Speaker 8: Yeah, you got to got to clean out the lint sailors.
- 16:22Speaker 8: Come on, what are you doing?
- 16:23Speaker 3: Especially?
- 16:23Speaker 7: I mean, is do you guys buy that that line
- 16:25Speaker 7: there or do you think there's someone else going on here?
- 16:27Speaker 7: I mean, we've now had three fighter jets down to
- 16:31Speaker 7: we had there.
- 16:32Speaker 8: It's the reporting from Iraq is that it was an
- 16:34Speaker 8: Iraqi militia that is linked to Iran that is taking
- 16:37Speaker 8: responsibility for downing this well.
- 16:40Speaker 7: And it's not like they're even giving a plausible explanation otherwise,
- 16:44Speaker 7: they're just saying one of them, one of the planes
- 16:47Speaker 7: went down and the other one successfully managed to make
- 16:49Speaker 7: its way back.
- 16:49Speaker 8: I mean, and why these refueling accidents don't happen more often?
- 16:52Speaker 3: Like it's insane.
- 16:54Speaker 8: It is crazy operating it as fast as they are,
- 16:57Speaker 8: you know, twenty thirty yards away or whatever from each other.
- 17:00Speaker 5: That they are.
- 17:01Speaker 8: However, it doesn't they they're they're extremely good at this.
- 17:04Speaker 8: But if you are getting fired at by a militia
- 17:07Speaker 8: from the ground, you know, maybe they took some evasive
- 17:10Speaker 8: maybe maybe it's somewhere in the middle. Maybe they were
- 17:12Speaker 8: getting fired at, they took some evasive maneuvers, but because
- 17:15Speaker 8: they were kind of locked into each other that caused
- 17:17Speaker 8: them to crash.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 17:20Speaker 8: And the militia made may also have just seen the
- 17:23Speaker 8: news and then rushed to take credit for it, even
- 17:26Speaker 8: though that's also possible.
- 17:28Speaker 6: This is for a war that has like forty opposition
- 17:32Speaker 6: in most polling, somewhere around that, which is we're less
- 17:36Speaker 6: than two weeks.
- 17:37Speaker 8: In in iracketing, probably got more than that. Yeah, And
- 17:42Speaker 8: one of the arguments that people have made for many
- 17:44Speaker 8: years of why it's a really bad idea to attack
- 17:47Speaker 8: Iran is that the Shia Iraqi population is pretty sympathetic
- 17:51Speaker 8: to Iran. We have significant assets still in Iraq, we
- 17:55Speaker 8: need Iraqi airspace.
- 17:57Speaker 3: That it just adds one more tactic problem for the
- 18:02Speaker 3: US there.
- 18:03Speaker 8: So it's you know that you got the green zone,
- 18:05Speaker 8: you got the big mission there that can be shelved
- 18:07Speaker 8: and attacked all of these bases produce you know, you know,
- 18:13Speaker 8: you can project power from them, but they're also.
- 18:17Speaker 3: You know, spaces of vulnerability as well.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah, well, and to that point, you know, Pete hex At,
- 18:23Speaker 2: the Secretary of War, tells us this is not a
- 18:26Speaker 2: widening conflict, this is a shrinking conflict. And yet you
- 18:31Speaker 2: have the IRGC claiming that it's once again been able
- 18:34Speaker 2: to strike the U S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
- 18:37Speaker 2: IRGC saying it's navy launched two waves of missile and
- 18:39Speaker 2: drone strikes early today targeting the headquarters of the U S.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Fifth Fleet. They claim the attack hit anti drone systems,
- 18:45Speaker 2: drown storage deposts, support equipment, fuel tanks, and areas where
- 18:48Speaker 2: US personnel were gathered using kamikaze drones. I don't know
- 18:52Speaker 2: that we have confirmation on this, but this is the
- 18:55Speaker 2: the footage that is circulating that you know, claims to
- 18:58Speaker 2: be part of these attacks. We also have a French
- 19:03Speaker 2: soldier who was killed after a French base in Iraq
- 19:08Speaker 2: was hit. And then this, to me, guys, was one
- 19:11Speaker 2: of the most important pieces of news that came out yesterday.
- 19:15Speaker 2: You know what we've been hearing from this administration is
- 19:18Speaker 2: that you know, we're they're in a game of it's
- 19:20Speaker 2: a war of attrition effectively, and they are degrading the
- 19:25Speaker 2: Iranian capability to be able to launch these missiles. And so, yes,
- 19:30Speaker 2: you've got these pesky drones and we don't really know
- 19:33Speaker 2: how to deal with that. But the more significant missiles
- 19:36Speaker 2: were mostly intercepting them, and we are destroying their launchers
- 19:41Speaker 2: so that they will no longer be able to launch
- 19:44Speaker 2: these missiles at all. Well, yesterday we get this piece
- 19:47Speaker 2: of news according to Bloomberg. Here, Iran's missile launcher Arsenal
- 19:53Speaker 2: holds steady despite strikes. The number of Iranian missile launchers
- 19:58Speaker 2: has held steady after a week of unrelenting air strikes,
- 20:01Speaker 2: according to Israeli and Western estimates, indicating the difficulty of
- 20:05Speaker 2: finding small mobile targets without having complete control of the skies.
- 20:09Speaker 2: IDF officials said Thursday two thirds of the Islamic Republic's
- 20:12Speaker 2: launchers had been destroyed. That's a little change from the
- 20:14Speaker 2: sixty percent reported last week. Two Western estimates on Thursday
- 20:18Speaker 2: also put the number of destroyed launchers at sixty percent,
- 20:20Speaker 2: with one adding that as much of eighty percent of
- 20:22Speaker 2: Iran's total offensive capability had been destroyed. They are of
- 20:26Speaker 2: course key to Iran's ability to fire its large supply.
- 20:30Speaker 2: And then you have an analyst who says it's likely
- 20:32Speaker 2: the Iranians are adapting tactics. Quite possible, they're just preserving
- 20:35Speaker 2: launchers by slowing down operations and focusing more on shaw hids.
- 20:40Speaker 2: And this is kind of the whole ballgame because you're,
- 20:44Speaker 2: you know, from the military analysts that I've heard, you're
- 20:46Speaker 2: basically in a race between Okay, are the interceptors going
- 20:49Speaker 2: to run out so that they you know, have to
- 20:51Speaker 2: be rationed, etc. By the US and by Israel, or
- 20:56Speaker 2: is the Iranian ability to launch these missiles going to
- 20:59Speaker 2: be degraded? Which one of those things is going to
- 21:01Speaker 2: happen first. And so this is a pretty dire sign
- 21:05Speaker 2: for the US and Israel. And again it's not that
- 21:08Speaker 2: we're said that the US can't continue to bomb the
- 21:11Speaker 2: hell out of a run, but if you actually want
- 21:14Speaker 2: to accomplish your goals, which certainly at this point one
- 21:16Speaker 2: of the goals has to be reopening the strait of
- 21:18Speaker 2: horror moves, you are not going to be able to
- 21:20Speaker 2: accomplish that through air power alone. And the audience are
- 21:24Speaker 2: going to continue to be able to, you know, to
- 21:26Speaker 2: strike some significant blows both using ballistic missiles and the
- 21:31Speaker 2: Shahed drones, which you know have proven to be fairly
- 21:35Speaker 2: fairly effective in causing problems and creating damage throughout the region.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm curious what you make of that. You guys
- 21:41Speaker 6: make it that. The only thing I'll just add really
- 21:43Speaker 6: quickly is we still don't even know if our goal,
- 21:45Speaker 6: of our quote objective in the war has anything to
- 21:48Speaker 6: do with missile capacity or if it has anything to
- 21:50Speaker 6: do with the nuclear capacity. So it's like, I don't
- 21:54Speaker 6: even know by our own stated goal, our own ambition,
- 21:59Speaker 6: because it's all all over the place, how significant this
- 22:02Speaker 6: is the I mean, obviously for the Tacker reasons Crystal
- 22:04Speaker 6: laid out, it's significant.
- 22:05Speaker 8: But yeah, Chris Murphy, the Democratic senator, who was briefed
- 22:08Speaker 8: by the top military officials and intelligence leaders, said that
- 22:13Speaker 8: that seemed to be the thing that they were falling
- 22:15Speaker 8: back on now as the actual kind of objective of
- 22:18Speaker 8: the war was to degrade the missile and other productive capacity.
- 22:23Speaker 8: And he said he asked, well, what happens if they
- 22:27Speaker 8: rebuild it or buy more from China? And they hinted, well,
- 22:30Speaker 8: maybe then we'll bomb them again in six months, which
- 22:33Speaker 8: then gets to the lawn It gets to Iran strategy,
- 22:36Speaker 8: which is they want to make this so painful for
- 22:38Speaker 8: the US that we think twice about getting the lawnmower
- 22:41Speaker 8: back out six months from now. And to give Jeremy
- 22:44Speaker 8: Scale a little credit, I think it was Tuesday that
- 22:47Speaker 8: he and mas reported and got a lot of pushback
- 22:49Speaker 8: at the time. They reported that the Iranian plan was
- 22:53Speaker 8: to dial down the attacks on golf countries, zero in
- 22:57Speaker 8: on two particular golf countries, but then focus most of
- 23:02Speaker 8: their fire on Israel for you know, for the next
- 23:05Speaker 8: you know, for the next phase of this war. And
- 23:08Speaker 8: that was they were like, no, that's you know, there
- 23:11Speaker 8: was a lot of pushback on that, but that was
- 23:12Speaker 8: as precisely what unfolded to a tee for the rest
- 23:16Speaker 8: of the week. They're now even firing missiles from sea
- 23:20Speaker 8: Iran is so you know, hag Seth is going around saying,
- 23:24Speaker 8: you know, we're we're hitting all their launchers.
- 23:25Speaker 3: They can't hide.
- 23:26Speaker 2: He's destroyed.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You know, they start to move them and boom, we
- 23:29Speaker 3: get them.
- 23:29Speaker 8: It'say, well they're shooting them out of the water at
- 23:32Speaker 8: you bro, like you need, you need another solution, then
- 23:36Speaker 8: we're just going to keep bombing them, because they have
- 23:40Speaker 8: an almost and they talked about, you know, they had
- 23:42Speaker 8: two thousand whatever ballistic missiles twenty five hundred and they've
- 23:45Speaker 8: shot you know, seven eight hundred of them at this point,
- 23:47Speaker 8: So the Americans are kind of sort of like, oh,
- 23:49Speaker 8: if we can just get to that two thousand, then
- 23:51Speaker 8: they're out. But they have an almost unlimited number of
- 23:54Speaker 8: the shorter range once, like they can't get to Israel necessarily,
- 23:58Speaker 8: but can hit around the region, so has they can't
- 24:02Speaker 8: bomb them, they can't wait this out or bomb them
- 24:05Speaker 8: into complete surrender.
- 24:07Speaker 7: Well, and to that point as well, it's not like
- 24:11Speaker 7: the Iranian savin already inflicted significant damage on US assets,
- 24:15Speaker 7: bases and radar systems and satellite systems and the Gulf
- 24:18Speaker 7: countries as well as in Israel. We even saw Hazbula
- 24:21Speaker 7: reportedly struck a satellite system inside of northern Israel. So
- 24:25Speaker 7: they've kind of already inflicted a significant amount of damage
- 24:29Speaker 7: in terms of taking out the eyes and the ears
- 24:30Speaker 7: of the US and Israel. And then you also have
- 24:33Speaker 7: with the straight of four moves, like if Iran's broader
- 24:36Speaker 7: strategy here is just to inflict maximum economic pain on
- 24:40Speaker 7: the US and the global economy to make this something
- 24:42Speaker 7: that we wouldn't consider doing in the future. It's not
- 24:45Speaker 7: like they need to be firing dozens or hundreds of
- 24:48Speaker 7: missiles into the Straight of four Moves. They just need, like,
- 24:50Speaker 7: you know, I think it's a sixteen ships at this
- 24:52Speaker 7: point that have been hit. You just need kind of
- 24:54Speaker 7: one a day, maybe one every couple of days, to
- 24:57Speaker 7: reinforce the idea that the insurance companies are not going
- 24:59Speaker 7: to back up these ships. The US at this point
- 25:02Speaker 7: is still rejecting any sort of idea of a naval
- 25:05Speaker 7: escort of some of these ships. You really don't need
- 25:08Speaker 7: that much firepower in order to continue inflicting that economic
- 25:12Speaker 7: pain on the US in a protracted sort of war situation.
- 25:16Speaker 8: Right, And they're still getting oil through the strait. That
- 25:18Speaker 8: that was the argument for why the US didn't focus
- 25:21Speaker 8: on the Strait of her moves.
- 25:22Speaker 3: They're like, oh, we never thought they'd close it because
- 25:24Speaker 3: they need it.
- 25:25Speaker 8: They didn't think of the idea that, oh, they'll just
- 25:26Speaker 8: keep sending their own ships through to China.
- 25:28Speaker 6: Well, we've been monitoring it. I'm very beginning.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we've've been exporting more oil's actually increased the amount
- 25:37Speaker 2: of oil that they are exporting since the beginning of
- 25:40Speaker 2: this war. And military analysts say, if you actually wanted
- 25:43Speaker 2: to do this thing that they floated of, you know,
- 25:46Speaker 2: the navy escorting ships through the Strait of horor moves,
- 25:48Speaker 2: in order to make that feasible, you would actually have
- 25:51Speaker 2: to invade and occupy the coastline. That's what that would require.
- 25:55Speaker 2: So that's why you know, this hasn't been done because
- 25:58Speaker 2: we you know, as oft as far as we know,
- 26:01Speaker 2: don't have boots on the ground in Iran, although you know,
- 26:04Speaker 2: I think I saw somebody who make a good point
- 26:06Speaker 2: on Twitter, which is we have tens of thousands of
- 26:08Speaker 2: service members throughout the region, which is where this you know,
- 26:12Speaker 2: these battles are being waged throughout the region. So we
- 26:14Speaker 2: do have boots on the ground, just not directly in
- 26:17Speaker 2: the country of Iran. This is another, you know, key
- 26:20Speaker 2: piece that we've been we've been warning about even before
- 26:25Speaker 2: this war and going back to you know, our conversations
- 26:28Speaker 2: about Ukraine, et cetera. They're saying US has burned through
- 26:30Speaker 2: years of munitions since the start of the Iran War,
- 26:34Speaker 2: rapid depletion of stockpile, including Tomahawk missiles, raises pressure on
- 26:37Speaker 2: Trump over the cost of the conflict. Commresce's brief that
- 26:40Speaker 2: it's cost over eleven billion dollars already, you know, as
- 26:44Speaker 2: we're in just week two of this warrn And I
- 26:46Speaker 2: thought you had a good point about this though. If
- 26:48Speaker 2: you burned through year's worth of munitions in mere days,
- 26:52Speaker 2: that was not actually years worth of munition.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Might years to make, but it wasn't years of muitions.
- 27:00Speaker 2: It was not yours.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Year's worth of food just in one sitting.
- 27:03Speaker 2: That wasn't your food, guy, It just took it down
- 27:05Speaker 2: in one meal.
- 27:06Speaker 3: You didn't have as much food as you thought. I
- 27:10Speaker 3: am lucky that that's was years worth.
- 27:15Speaker 7: Well, I'm also curious what you guys think about, you know,
- 27:18Speaker 7: the potential for nuclear weapons being deployed by Israel specifically
- 27:22Speaker 7: or potentially from the United States, because I think this
- 27:25Speaker 7: might be the kind of moment where Israel feels like
- 27:27Speaker 7: it's their last best chance to topple the Iranian government
- 27:31Speaker 7: or to fragment Iran. So it's already happened in different states,
- 27:34Speaker 7: but like, do you do you think that there's a
- 27:36Speaker 7: legitimate likelihood that Israel could feel like, Okay, maybe we're
- 27:40Speaker 7: not going to get a couple months down the line
- 27:41Speaker 7: a chance to do this again. There's not going to
- 27:43Speaker 7: be as much of an appetite from the Americans, et cetera.
- 27:46Speaker 7: Where do you guys stand on that right now?
- 27:48Speaker 6: Well, this is reported, I mean, this is already leaking
- 27:50Speaker 6: into reports about the tension between Israel, Nettan, Yahoo, and Trump,
- 27:57Speaker 6: being that Israel Andahu want to push this pedal to
- 28:01Speaker 6: the medal as the opportunity to totally defenestrate Iran take
- 28:06Speaker 6: care of Iran, and Trump doesn't, according to reports, isn't
- 28:11Speaker 6: entirely on board with that. May he become on board
- 28:13Speaker 6: with that, perhaps, but this is seen as like a
- 28:17Speaker 6: generational opportunity. It's certainly seen as like a generational opportunity
- 28:21Speaker 6: by the Lindsay Grahams here in the United States. And
- 28:23Speaker 6: so if Israel is viewing the opportunity to topple Iran
- 28:27Speaker 6: completely totally wholly that way, then I don't think it's foolish,
- 28:33Speaker 6: especially because they've already pushed the United States beyond apparently
- 28:38Speaker 6: what even members of the Trump administration, including Dan Kine,
- 28:41Speaker 6: are entirely comfortable with to escalate, escalate, escalate, So you know,
- 28:47Speaker 6: just even talking about that gets people treated as fearmongers
- 28:51Speaker 6: and fools. But again, the pattern that we are seeing
- 28:54Speaker 6: here is escalation escalation. Is Israel seeing this as a
- 28:59Speaker 6: historic generation opportunity to holly topple an enemy. And so
- 29:04Speaker 6: again I don't think max question is is silly or
- 29:06Speaker 6: foolish at all. We should be completely vigilant. That is
- 29:09Speaker 6: exactly how these things spiral. First to boots on the ground,
- 29:13Speaker 6: and then the goalpost keeps moving and moving. You're losing people.
- 29:16Speaker 6: The United States wants to avenge. The American people start saying, well,
- 29:20Speaker 6: we just they just killed ten of our guys, and
- 29:23Speaker 6: its spirals and spirals we've seen it before. So I
- 29:26Speaker 6: don't think it's foolish at all, Mac to even ask
- 29:28Speaker 6: that question.
- 29:29Speaker 7: Well, and you also have, just as an addition to that,
- 29:32Speaker 7: to take it into to take Iran's positioning into account
- 29:36Speaker 7: in this, because it's categorically different than the June twenty
- 29:39Speaker 7: twenty five war that lasted for twelve days. Because at
- 29:43Speaker 7: that point Israel the United States asked for a ceasefire.
- 29:46Speaker 7: The Iyatola was sort of clian to that sort of idea.
- 29:51Speaker 7: And then now you have two different instances at this
- 29:53Speaker 7: point where the US and Iran have been in the
- 29:56Speaker 7: middle of negotiations and Israel and the United States have
- 29:59Speaker 7: launch unilateral wars of aggression against them. So, like, what
- 30:04Speaker 7: motivation does Iran have at this point right now to
- 30:07Speaker 7: even hypothetically consider stopping the war, given that it seems
- 30:11Speaker 7: like that might just give Israel in the United States
- 30:14Speaker 7: a chance to restock over the course of a couple
- 30:16Speaker 7: months and then come back and do it again.
- 30:19Speaker 8: Yeah, And I asked Jeremy this question is what does
- 30:22Speaker 8: it look like to them to have extracted enough costs
- 30:26Speaker 8: so that they feel comfortable. It could be some actual
- 30:31Speaker 8: out loud promises from the US that they make in
- 30:34Speaker 8: coordination with the with Russia and China and the UN.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Or it could just be a sense.
- 30:39Speaker 8: That that this is going to be something that the
- 30:43Speaker 8: American political system feels for two decades. But I don't
- 30:46Speaker 8: know that it's It's a very good question. I got
- 30:49Speaker 8: to run, Professor.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Ryan will let you go. Thank you so much
- 30:53Speaker 2: for joining us, And we've got a few more Iran
- 30:55Speaker 2: updates that we want to get to you here and I
- 30:57Speaker 2: also want to react to the next question about nukes,
- 31:00Speaker 2: but have a good weekend. Ryan will the great work.
- 31:04Speaker 2: You know that Professor Mohammed Randi, he says that the
- 31:07Speaker 2: Iranian mindset is we're at least going to make this
- 31:11Speaker 2: go till the midterms because you know, they're keenly aware
- 31:13Speaker 2: of the political situation here in the US. They're keenly
- 31:15Speaker 2: aware that Trump is was already on than eyes with
- 31:18Speaker 2: the population over the Epstein cover up. They talk a
- 31:20Speaker 2: lot about Epstein class. They're quite you know, intelligently and strategically,
- 31:25Speaker 2: and uh, you know, I think they want to make
- 31:27Speaker 2: sure that he fully pays politically, a massive political price
- 31:31Speaker 2: for what's going on here, and that frankly, the American
- 31:34Speaker 2: people are gonna, you know, are going to pay a
- 31:35Speaker 2: massive economic price that, you know, and extract that pain
- 31:40Speaker 2: from from all of us.
- 31:41Speaker 6: I think I should you should first apologize for just
- 31:44Speaker 6: using an anti Semitic slur. I don't know if you
- 31:46Speaker 6: did this on purpose, but you just refer to the
- 31:49Speaker 6: Epstein class and I was.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Relying only quoting the Iranians in their you know.
- 31:55Speaker 6: But if you say I've seen class, this is now
- 31:57Speaker 6: and I'm not like really not joking. This is actually
- 32:00Speaker 6: now being called a dog whistle, a Larstine class a
- 32:04Speaker 6: dog whistle, anti Semitic slur.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So believe, Yeah, Rocana is getting all kinds of hatchet jobs,
- 32:10Speaker 2: you know, written about him for coining the term and
- 32:12Speaker 2: for daring to push for accountability. But I wanted to
- 32:17Speaker 2: return to this question Mac, that you asked about nukes.
- 32:19Speaker 7: I do.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I don't think it's a foolish question. I think there's
- 32:22Speaker 2: definitely a possibility we get there. I don't personally think
- 32:24Speaker 2: that we're there yet, because you know Trump, I think
- 32:28Speaker 2: Trump probably wants to taco at this point, Tree to
- 32:31Speaker 2: PARSI was saying that he's heard from the Gulf Erab
- 32:35Speaker 2: partners is that Trump had told them this will take
- 32:37Speaker 2: about four days. Obviously that is not what worked out.
- 32:40Speaker 2: I think that's what Trump believed. I think he did
- 32:42Speaker 2: think he could do of Venezuela here in and out,
- 32:44Speaker 2: quick mission accomplished, prove all the haters and the doubters
- 32:47Speaker 2: and the losers wrong. Curtis Berman, Yeah, and move on
- 32:50Speaker 2: to the next thing. Obviously that hasn't happened. Now. I
- 32:54Speaker 2: think he would love to try to figure out some
- 32:56Speaker 2: way out of this thing, but not at the expense
- 32:59Speaker 2: of losing Fai like Trump and the American Empire, cannot
- 33:03Speaker 2: lose face here. So you know, if we say, okay,
- 33:07Speaker 2: we're done, you know, one benefit of not establishing any
- 33:10Speaker 2: goals is you can, you know, then make up some
- 33:13Speaker 2: goal after the Oh, we wanted to degrade their launcher capacity,
- 33:16Speaker 2: we did it, So we're leaving mission accomplished. But the
- 33:19Speaker 2: problem with that is that the Iranians they get a
- 33:21Speaker 2: say in this, and the Israelis apparently get to say
- 33:24Speaker 2: in this too, because you know, allegedly their commitment to
- 33:27Speaker 2: attacking Iran is part of why we decided to jump
- 33:30Speaker 2: into this thing. But the Iranians certainly get to say.
- 33:33Speaker 2: And I don't think to your point back, I don't
- 33:35Speaker 2: think there's any reason it would be foolish, frankly for
- 33:39Speaker 2: them at this point to back away when you have
- 33:42Speaker 2: us in a lot of ways by the neck. You know,
- 33:44Speaker 2: they've got their boot on the throat of our economy,
- 33:48Speaker 2: and they're able to inflict damage in Israel, and they're
- 33:51Speaker 2: able to extract pain from the Gulf allies that have
- 33:54Speaker 2: allowed you know, these attacks to originate from their their soil.
- 33:58Speaker 2: They'd be foolish to walk away from them. So, you know,
- 34:01Speaker 2: the reason I don't think we're there yet in terms
- 34:03Speaker 2: of you know, potential Israel potentially using a quote unquote
- 34:09Speaker 2: tactical nuke is because I think the US is going
- 34:13Speaker 2: to be the ones to escalate the next level and
- 34:15Speaker 2: put boots on the ground. I think that's where this
- 34:17Speaker 2: is almost inevitably going. I mean, the Iranians have said
- 34:20Speaker 2: they're targeting US and Israeli banks in the region, City
- 34:25Speaker 2: and HSBC and others have had to evacuate their personnel.
- 34:30Speaker 2: They've said they're they consider the tech companies to be
- 34:34Speaker 2: complicit in this and for them to be targets as well.
- 34:37Speaker 2: And then obviously we've talked you know, at length about
- 34:39Speaker 2: the straight upfurbus and the oil markets, et cetera. There
- 34:42Speaker 2: is simply no way that our country is going to
- 34:46Speaker 2: allow them to threaten these centers of financial capital and
- 34:51Speaker 2: not escalate to the next level. So I'm fairly convinced
- 34:55Speaker 2: that we will likely end up with boots on the
- 34:57Speaker 2: ground and that will be the next step up the
- 35:00Speaker 2: escalation chain. Now as we continue up that chain, does
- 35:03Speaker 2: it then become more and more likely that you know,
- 35:05Speaker 2: either US or Israel frankly decides that they're are only
- 35:08Speaker 2: way out of this thing is to go World War
- 35:11Speaker 2: two style and drop some sort of a bomb to
- 35:13Speaker 2: send sort of a message, and then that is, God,
- 35:16Speaker 2: that's a whole Pandora's box. But you know, the nuclear
- 35:19Speaker 2: taboo is strong enough that I feel like we aren't
- 35:23Speaker 2: there yet in terms of that being the next logical move. Now,
- 35:27Speaker 2: you know, ten steps down the road, do we get there?
- 35:30Speaker 2: That I think is an open possibility, but at least
- 35:33Speaker 2: I'm hoping we're not there yet.
- 35:34Speaker 7: Yeah, And to your point, Crystal, I think this is
- 35:37Speaker 7: why we've seen Trump sort of bobbling back and forth
- 35:41Speaker 7: between saying the wars all close to done and we've
- 35:44Speaker 7: kind of already won the war and we've achieved victory,
- 35:46Speaker 7: and then bouncing but you know, maybe we need to
- 35:48Speaker 7: do a little bit more and it's not done yet.
- 35:50Speaker 7: I think he is in some sense trying to lay
- 35:53Speaker 7: the groundwork for a Taco move or to pull out
- 35:56Speaker 7: and claim victory, because he's already completely changed the definition
- 36:00Speaker 7: of what victory would mean. I mean, we started out
- 36:02Speaker 7: here with the US and the Israeli seemingly on the
- 36:04Speaker 7: same page in regards to regime change, in regards to
- 36:08Speaker 7: the complete destruction of their ballistic missile capacity and production capacity,
- 36:12Speaker 7: destruction of their entire navy, you know, all of these
- 36:14Speaker 7: different elements that it seems like Trump has sort of
- 36:17Speaker 7: backed off of almost entirely at this point. So that's
- 36:20Speaker 7: sort of the one hopium that I have at this
- 36:23Speaker 7: point is that he will just change the definition of
- 36:26Speaker 7: victory and say, Okay, we won, We're done with this.
- 36:29Speaker 7: But again, then you have the Israel angle, which is,
- 36:32Speaker 7: you know, are they going to give up what they
- 36:34Speaker 7: view as their potential last major chance because after this,
- 36:38Speaker 7: you know, I would imagine you're going to have increased
- 36:40Speaker 7: backing and reinforcements with Russia and China and their relationship
- 36:44Speaker 7: with Iran. Obviously, as you said, rom will have more
- 36:47Speaker 7: of a motivation than ever to go and actually pursue
- 36:50Speaker 7: a nuclear weapon for defensive purposes or for deterrent purposes.
- 36:53Speaker 7: They're going to rebuild their ballistic missile stockpiles. They're going,
- 36:56Speaker 7: you know, like, this isn't going anywhere in the long
- 36:58Speaker 7: term magically, and so if Israel genuinely feels like this
- 37:02Speaker 7: is the one chance they you know, they might feel
- 37:04Speaker 7: like they you know, they might take that opportunity. I guess.
- 37:07Speaker 7: So it's it's terrifying, But Trump, I guess chickening out
- 37:11Speaker 7: is like the one uh thing that we can we
- 37:13Speaker 7: can hope for.
- 37:14Speaker 2: I guess, well, like I said, I don't think I
- 37:18Speaker 2: don't think that ends the war. Yeah, you know, I
- 37:20Speaker 2: don't think Trump chickening out ends the war. That's that
- 37:23Speaker 2: is that is the way he has trapped himself. He
- 37:26Speaker 2: has now trapped himself. He the taco has in a
- 37:29Speaker 2: sense been taken off the table because the Iranian taco
- 37:34Speaker 2: has been removed from the menu, because because the Iranian
- 37:40Speaker 2: the logic that we have ourselves created for the Iranians
- 37:44Speaker 2: is we have to fight to the death, we have
- 37:47Speaker 2: to extract a massive amount of pain. And I don't
- 37:50Speaker 2: think they feel like they have done nearly enough to
- 37:54Speaker 2: deter us and the Israelis in the future from just
- 37:56Speaker 2: going back and doing the same thing over and over
- 37:59Speaker 2: and over again.
- 38:00Speaker 7: Well, and that's one of the ironic things about killing
- 38:02Speaker 7: the Iyahtola is he was in some sense more of
- 38:06Speaker 7: a restrained figure and counter to you know, the idea
- 38:09Speaker 7: pushed by Israel in the US that he's this totally irrational, suicidal,
- 38:13Speaker 7: you know, on a mission to destroy the entire region
- 38:15Speaker 7: or whatever else like, well, he may have been suicidal,
- 38:18Speaker 7: but yes, well sure in some sense, yeah, because it
- 38:20Speaker 7: seems like he was willing to allow himself to be martyred.
- 38:22Speaker 7: But you know, if you hadn't killed the Iahtola, you
- 38:25Speaker 7: probably would have been in a much better position to
- 38:27Speaker 7: do a sort of short back and forth operation and
- 38:30Speaker 7: maybe there would have been some sort of a groundwork
- 38:33Speaker 7: to pull out of this. But like you said, Christal,
- 38:34Speaker 7: I mean, now that the Iatola has been killed, the
- 38:36Speaker 7: new Iahtola, his entire core family unit was wiped out.
- 38:40Speaker 7: I mean, we've made this war existential for a run,
- 38:42Speaker 7: and so they're going to try to make it existential
- 38:44Speaker 7: at least in terms of US presence in the region
- 38:48Speaker 7: for us as well. Well, we were all.
- 38:50Speaker 6: Of us anti interventionists were being told to take a
- 38:52Speaker 6: massive l after Midnight Hammer, which by the way, I
- 38:55Speaker 6: was happy to do. But but for the last several months,
- 38:59Speaker 6: what have we been saying We were against Midnight Hammer
- 39:01Speaker 6: because of the escalatory spiral and just because it took
- 39:05Speaker 6: another six months or whatever to get to this part
- 39:08Speaker 6: of the escalatory spiral, it's not invalidating of the point
- 39:12Speaker 6: that everybody made at the time, which is that this
- 39:14Speaker 6: is what happens. You keep moving the goalposts and moving
- 39:18Speaker 6: the goal posts and moving the goal posts, and it's
- 39:22Speaker 6: much easier to start a war than it is to
- 39:24Speaker 6: end a war. Everybody knows that. And Trump, I think
- 39:27Speaker 6: what we're seeing is his branding exercise of him now
- 39:31Speaker 6: trying to define what victory looks like while also publicly
- 39:35Speaker 6: doing his art of the deal negotiation by saying it's
- 39:39Speaker 6: you know, we could keep going. We don't want to,
- 39:41Speaker 6: we're just about done, We've already won, but we could
- 39:43Speaker 6: keep going. We could keep going. So what that actually
- 39:46Speaker 6: looks like now, I think we just literally have no idea,
- 39:50Speaker 6: because I don't think he has any idea, and it's
- 39:52Speaker 6: happening on a daily basis, Like what this definition is
- 39:54Speaker 6: actually going to look like is shifting on a daily basis.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Right now, let me tell you one more thing that
- 39:59Speaker 2: I am concerned about before I'm concerned about nuclear weapon
- 40:02Speaker 2: being deployed, which is, there was a rabbi either during
- 40:07Speaker 2: or immediately after the Twelve Day War who floated this
- 40:11Speaker 2: idea of, hey, you know what I would have done
- 40:14Speaker 2: I would have ourselves, as an Israeli bombed the Alasa
- 40:19Speaker 2: Mosque and then blamed it on Iran and allowed all
- 40:24Speaker 2: hell to break loose, and you know, then have the
- 40:27Speaker 2: you know, the different Muslim lead countries in the region
- 40:31Speaker 2: fighting Iran as well. And by the way, this gives
- 40:33Speaker 2: us our chance to you know, pursue our our like
- 40:37Speaker 2: into our own end times direction and rebuild the temple
- 40:41Speaker 2: there and whatever. And I think that is I don't
- 40:45Speaker 2: think we could rule that out as the possibility. You know,
- 40:47Speaker 2: the Israelis already being accused of various false flag attacks
- 40:52Speaker 2: in the region to strike.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Like a half mile away from all.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Oxenden exactly right. And that's that's why I'm nervous about it,
- 40:58Speaker 2: is because the Israelis were advertising that of look at
- 41:02Speaker 2: these runnings structure so close to alos and Musque. You know,
- 41:05Speaker 2: isn't this Korea And you can only imagine what would happen.
- 41:08Speaker 2: And so that is something else that I am concerned
- 41:11Speaker 2: about as a possibility here is that Israel could you
- 41:15Speaker 2: know themselves bomb the musque then blame Iran and you know,
- 41:19Speaker 2: create open that Pandora's box, which would lead to you know,
- 41:24Speaker 2: another level of escalation and chaos, which is ultimately what
- 41:29Speaker 2: the Israelis want. The Israelis are agents of chaos. They
- 41:31Speaker 2: want chaos for the Iranians, they want chaos for all
- 41:34Speaker 2: of the Gulf Arab states in the region. They want
- 41:37Speaker 2: chaos for us because ultimately they you know, net Yahoo
- 41:42Speaker 2: went out and said, hey, this this war is making
- 41:44Speaker 2: us not just a global of regional powers, making us
- 41:47Speaker 2: a superpower, a global superpower. And guess who that comes
- 41:51Speaker 2: at the expense of That's about us because outside of Iran,
- 41:55Speaker 2: and then you know, they talk about wanting to go
- 41:57Speaker 2: after Turkey next. The other challenge to them in the
- 42:00Speaker 2: region is US, Right, We're the other constraint on what
- 42:03Speaker 2: they can do in the region. And they see the
- 42:05Speaker 2: writing on the wall. They know the way the politics
- 42:07Speaker 2: have changed. They know they're not going to get another
- 42:09Speaker 2: president like Trump who lets them do whatever they want
- 42:12Speaker 2: to do in the same way. That's not happening. That's
- 42:15Speaker 2: not happening again. So in any case, you know, I
- 42:18Speaker 2: think it's important for people to understand when we talk
- 42:21Speaker 2: about the goals and interests of the US and Israel
- 42:25Speaker 2: not being totally aligned in terms of the Iran War.
- 42:28Speaker 2: In one of the ways that they're not aligned is
- 42:30Speaker 2: that even though technically we're allies right now, ultimately Israel
- 42:35Speaker 2: would love to see us in our capacity in the
- 42:38Speaker 2: region and our ability to constrain them. They would love
- 42:40Speaker 2: to see us degraded in that way as well.
- 42:43Speaker 7: Yeah, which is it's wild to watch in real time,
- 42:47Speaker 7: like the decline of the US Empire in large part,
- 42:50Speaker 7: you could say, you know, due to the war in
- 42:52Speaker 7: Iraq and the war in Afghanistan, these decades long projects
- 42:55Speaker 7: that we've wasted trillions of dollars on, destroyed our reputation
- 43:00Speaker 7: on the world stage, et cetera. And now this, this
- 43:03Speaker 7: war with Iran, depending on how it goes like this
- 43:04Speaker 7: could be the final stage of American power projection in
- 43:09Speaker 7: the region. This could be the destruction of the American
- 43:11Speaker 7: Empire all in service of propping up the sort of
- 43:15Speaker 7: Israeli empire in the Middle East. I mean, we're willingly
- 43:19Speaker 7: sort of destroying our own power dynamics on behalf of
- 43:22Speaker 7: a foreign country. It's it's just wild to see happen
- 43:24Speaker 7: in real time.
- 43:25Speaker 2: You know what it makes me think of is we
- 43:28Speaker 2: all know that guy who is deeply insecure in his
- 43:33Speaker 2: masculinity and he's taken testosterone and he's he's vine big
- 43:40Speaker 2: old pickup truck, and you know, he's they and you
- 43:51Speaker 2: know it all comes from this place of insecurity, and they,
- 43:53Speaker 2: you know, act like a bully and they're lashing out,
- 43:55Speaker 2: acting like the big tough guy on the block. I
- 43:57Speaker 2: mean that's the same thing as what declining empires. It's
- 44:01Speaker 2: the same type of behavior. And not just does, but
- 44:03Speaker 2: if you look throughout history and so it is a
- 44:07Speaker 2: recorded historical fact that empires which are in decline become
- 44:10Speaker 2: more violent, both externally and internally. And yeah, I mean
- 44:14Speaker 2: Trump is a particular figure, like I think he is.
- 44:17Speaker 2: I don't think if we have a different president. I
- 44:18Speaker 2: don't think if Kamala Harris's president, I don't think we're
- 44:21Speaker 2: in this war right now. So he, you know, has
- 44:23Speaker 2: a lot to do with what's going on. But also
- 44:25Speaker 2: if you just zoom out from him as a character
- 44:28Speaker 2: here and look at the historical trends, it is not
- 44:31Speaker 2: surprising that we're lashing out at the world in these ways,
- 44:36Speaker 2: desperately trying to prove that we're still the tough guy
- 44:40Speaker 2: on the block, desperately trying to project that power and
- 44:44Speaker 2: to save face and I think that that impetus to
- 44:48Speaker 2: like to save face at all costs. It seems ridiculous
- 44:53Speaker 2: and it seems like it comes just down of Trump's
- 44:56Speaker 2: particular like narcissism and ego. Well, but it also is
- 45:02Speaker 2: essential to the empire because the moment that you puncture
- 45:05Speaker 2: the illusion that we are all powerful, that we can
- 45:08Speaker 2: do whatever we want, wherever we want, whenever we want
- 45:12Speaker 2: to whoever we want. The moment that illusion collapses, that
- 45:16Speaker 2: is the moment that the empire actually ends. And so
- 45:18Speaker 2: to your point mac about how this could actually end
- 45:21Speaker 2: the American empire, that would be the reason why, because
- 45:24Speaker 2: the you know, the people we've been pushing around all
- 45:27Speaker 2: around the world will look at this and go, you
- 45:31Speaker 2: know what, they're not so tough, like they're not so invincible.
- 45:34Speaker 2: And maybe if we, you know, collectively get together, like
- 45:37Speaker 2: we don't need to take all of this bullying and
- 45:39Speaker 2: this obnoxious behavior from them, they you know, they are
- 45:43Speaker 2: a paper tiger, and we can make our own moves
- 45:47Speaker 2: and make our own decisions in the world without always
- 45:50Speaker 2: having to, uh, you know, having to bend to their will.
- 45:54Speaker 6: Well, the power of the military and the power of
- 45:55Speaker 6: the dollar, I think we have a best clip on
- 45:58Speaker 6: oil mac to to get to if I'm remembering correctly,
- 46:02Speaker 6: But this is to me, that's one of the big
- 46:04Speaker 6: questions or question marks about what happens to the American
- 46:08Speaker 6: Empire depending on how long this goes and what it
- 46:11Speaker 6: looks like, is what it does to the dollar, how
- 46:13Speaker 6: the Trump administration ends when it comes to the dollar
- 46:17Speaker 6: in the next couple of years, because that's an obviously
- 46:21Speaker 6: chritical component of the empire. It is tied to military
- 46:24Speaker 6: power and military strength. Here is Treasury Secretary at Scott Bessett.
- 46:29Speaker 6: This was just last night saying the President's taking decisive
- 46:32Speaker 6: steps to promote stability and global energy markets and working
- 46:35Speaker 6: to keep prices low as we address the threat and
- 46:37Speaker 6: it's and instability posed by the terrorist Iranian regime. To
- 46:41Speaker 6: increase the global reach of existing supply, Treasury is providing
- 46:44Speaker 6: a temporary authorization to permit countries to purchase Russian oil
- 46:49Speaker 6: currently stranded at sea. This narrowly tailored, short term measure
- 46:53Speaker 6: applies only to oil already in transit and will not
- 46:55Speaker 6: provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government, which derives
- 46:59Speaker 6: the majority of its energy revenue from taxes assessed at
- 47:03Speaker 6: the point of extraction. President Trump's pro energy policies have
- 47:07Speaker 6: driven US oil and gas production to record levels, contributing
- 47:10Speaker 6: to lower fuel prices for hardworking Americans. The temporary increase
- 47:13Speaker 6: in oil prices is a short term and temporary disruption
- 47:15Speaker 6: that will result in a massive benefit to our nation
- 47:18Speaker 6: and economy in the long term. And hanging over that,
- 47:22Speaker 6: obviously is the Trump Administration's moves in the crypto space,
- 47:26Speaker 6: the Trump Administration's move to potentially devalue the dollar. All
- 47:32Speaker 6: kinds of stuff happening in the background of the exercise
- 47:35Speaker 6: in Iran right now that leave things also the trade war,
- 47:41Speaker 6: but that just basically leave us in such I can't.
- 47:44Speaker 6: I mean, it feels like things have been unstable for years,
- 47:47Speaker 6: at least since nine to eleven, of course, but and
- 47:49Speaker 6: certainly since the dawn of nuclear weapons. But this is
- 47:52Speaker 6: as shaky of an economy as I can remember.
- 47:56Speaker 7: Macacrystal well and to your point earlier Crystal like in
- 48:00Speaker 7: terms of the US maintaining this facade that we can
- 48:04Speaker 7: crush whoever we want, whenever and however we want. Like
- 48:07Speaker 7: now you have this situation where we've been spending years
- 48:10Speaker 7: trying to destroy the Russian economy in the aftermath of
- 48:13Speaker 7: the invasion of Ukraine.
- 48:14Speaker 6: We are still targets on right rush the Russian military
- 48:19Speaker 6: in Ukraine right now as we speak.
- 48:21Speaker 7: And so we failed to crush the Russian economy. They're
- 48:23Speaker 7: still able at the bare minimum to continue the war
- 48:27Speaker 7: going as they see fit. And now you have you've
- 48:29Speaker 7: come full circle to where we're basically telling countries, okay,
- 48:33Speaker 7: you can kind of skirt around the rules here a
- 48:34Speaker 7: little bit, maybe by a little bit of Russian oil
- 48:37Speaker 7: in order to hold yourselves over as we do this
- 48:39Speaker 7: completely unnecessary, illegal war of aggression against a run. So
- 48:42Speaker 7: it's like on multiple different fronts. Over the course of
- 48:45Speaker 7: the last couple of years, the US Empire has seen
- 48:48Speaker 7: massive fractures that are being exposed within it. I think
- 48:52Speaker 7: that's another example of it.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Yeah, well and listen, like we well, first of all,
- 48:58Speaker 2: it's funny for best and now to be like we're
- 49:00Speaker 2: committed to keeping prices low, when literally yesterday Trump put
- 49:02Speaker 2: on a true social that was like, high oil prices
- 49:05Speaker 2: are great for the US. I don't know what you
- 49:07Speaker 2: people are complaining about. So, but in any case, and
- 49:10Speaker 2: there is speculation that potentially Charger is intervening directly in
- 49:14Speaker 2: the markets to lower the price of oil, which I
- 49:18Speaker 2: do think is a possibility. And look, we are, you know,
- 49:22Speaker 2: net energy exporting country. There are additional levers that the
- 49:27Speaker 2: Trump administration could use. They could actually say, like we're
- 49:30Speaker 2: you know, there is a lever they could pull that
- 49:32Speaker 2: says we're not exporting this oil is only being used
- 49:34Speaker 2: in the United States of America, and screw you rest
- 49:37Speaker 2: of the world. You know, now we've effectively cut off
- 49:40Speaker 2: your supply of Middle Eastern oil. We've curtailed your ability
- 49:43Speaker 2: to use Russian oil. Good luck. So there is no
- 49:48Speaker 2: doubt that actually other countries, especially poor countries around the world,
- 49:52Speaker 2: will be hurt more by this than US consumers will be.
- 49:57Speaker 2: But there's also no doubt that there will be soon
- 50:00Speaker 2: pain here at a time when the economy is incredibly rickety,
- 50:03Speaker 2: when people say have been saying for years that their
- 50:05Speaker 2: highest priority is the economy, when Trump ran on promises
- 50:08Speaker 2: of affordability, and you know, it's a it's a pretty
- 50:14Speaker 2: grim it's a pretty grim picture, especially when you consider
- 50:17Speaker 2: how much our stock market is. I mean, our whole
- 50:19Speaker 2: economy is just like a Ponzi scheme, you know, I mean,
- 50:21Speaker 2: the whole stock markets build on this like theoretical ai
- 50:25Speaker 2: Bilm that's really not proven in terms of its profitability.
- 50:28Speaker 2: That also, by the way, relies on access to cheap energy,
- 50:32Speaker 2: so the whole thing is just.
- 50:34Speaker 7: And also massive investments from the Gulf States.
- 50:37Speaker 2: That's that's absolutely right as well. That's absolutely right as well.
- 50:40Speaker 6: Which it's premium. That's that's I guess an argument if
- 50:44Speaker 6: someone was here doing Devil's Advocate, that would be an
- 50:46Speaker 6: argument for the Empire that we continue to suck in
- 50:48Speaker 6: the world with our financial schemes like uh, the investment
- 50:53Speaker 6: that the Middle Eastern investment in crypto and the light whoa.
- 50:56Speaker 7: But well, you know, we'll see how long that lasts
- 50:58Speaker 7: because they might be rethinking a lot of those investments now.
- 51:01Speaker 7: So that's another angle there.
- 51:03Speaker 6: Sure, hardest hit.
- 51:04Speaker 7: Do we want to move on here to the next
- 51:06Speaker 7: next story here, guys.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go ahead and shift gears too. We've got
- 51:11Speaker 2: Brad Lander standing by to talk to us about his
- 51:15Speaker 2: campaign in a New York City congressional district. He's in
- 51:19Speaker 2: a Democratic primary against Dan Goldman, who is significantly to
- 51:23Speaker 2: his right, especially in questions Frankly, Warren Peace, none of
- 51:26Speaker 2: our relationship to Israel, so let's go ahead get to that,
- 51:32Speaker 2: all right, everybody. We are fortunate to be joined this
- 51:34Speaker 2: morning by Brad Lander. He of course is former New
- 51:36Speaker 2: York City Comptroller, a former mayoral candidate, and current congressional
- 51:41Speaker 2: candidate in New York City. Great to see, Sar, Great
- 51:43Speaker 2: to be on with you have a bunch of things
- 51:46Speaker 2: we want to get to you. Here is a lot
- 51:47Speaker 2: going on in New York City, the country and the
- 51:49Speaker 2: world at large. First wanted to just get your reaction
- 51:52Speaker 2: to the War of Choice in Iran.
- 51:56Speaker 9: I mean the fact that American tax pair of dollars
- 52:00Speaker 9: are being used to light the Middle East on fire,
- 52:03Speaker 9: that thousands of people are dead, including hundreds of kids
- 52:06Speaker 9: at that school, including US service members. That we've made
- 52:10Speaker 9: millions of refugees, three quarters of a million in Lebanon,
- 52:13Speaker 9: probably over two million in Iran. That we've shredded American
- 52:17Speaker 9: credibility in the world and are doing irreparable damage to
- 52:21Speaker 9: international law.
- 52:23Speaker 3: And for what.
- 52:25Speaker 9: You know, the American public is against it. Where is
- 52:29Speaker 9: Congress being a louder to stop it? Article one of
- 52:31Speaker 9: the Constitutions, as Congress decides whether we declare or it
- 52:36Speaker 9: is outrageous, and I'm outraged.
- 52:39Speaker 8: And so your opponent represented Dan Goldman, he voted for
- 52:42Speaker 8: the War Powers resolution that would have restricted Trump's war.
- 52:48Speaker 8: All but four Democrats in the House and one in
- 52:51Speaker 8: the Senate voted for that. But there's been a very
- 52:55Speaker 8: long and wide kind of spectrum about how people are
- 52:58Speaker 8: talking about the war with well, we understand and Iran
- 53:03Speaker 8: can't have a nuclear weapon and cite a lot of
- 53:06Speaker 8: justifications for it, and then say, but you know, I
- 53:08Speaker 8: don't trust Trump to wage this.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Others have just said the war needs to end today,
- 53:12Speaker 3: it was illegal to begin with.
- 53:14Speaker 8: What where are you on that spectrum and what's the
- 53:16Speaker 8: what would you describe as the difference between you and
- 53:19Speaker 8: your opponent on your approach to it.
- 53:22Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean the war needs to end today. We
- 53:25Speaker 9: shouldn't spend any more money on it, and I am.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Opposed to it.
- 53:28Speaker 9: I mean, of course, the Iranian regime has repressed and
- 53:32Speaker 9: killed its own people. Of course there needs to be
- 53:37Speaker 9: attention to making sure that they don't get a nuclear weapon,
- 53:41Speaker 9: but we know from our own Defense Intelligence Agency assessment
- 53:43Speaker 9: that they weren't getting closer and that this was simply
- 53:47Speaker 9: a war of choice. I mean, Marco Rubio said out
- 53:50Speaker 9: loud that Netanya, who essentially baited Trump into this war.
- 53:58Speaker 3: I've been real loud about it.
- 53:59Speaker 9: My opponent voted for the War Powers resolution but has
- 54:03Speaker 9: not been loud about it. And supporters of my opponent,
- 54:07Speaker 9: I mean, he gets a lot of funding from APAC Downers.
- 54:10Speaker 3: A pack is cheerleading this war. So I think there's
- 54:16Speaker 3: a pretty strong distinction. Right.
- 54:22Speaker 8: If we can talk for a moment about the attack
- 54:25Speaker 8: on the synagogue in Michigan yesterday, what was your and
- 54:31Speaker 8: also there was another there was another attack in Virginia.
- 54:35Speaker 3: What was your immediate reaction. What's your reaction as you've
- 54:38Speaker 3: learned more about well.
- 54:40Speaker 6: And we can add this is all on the heels
- 54:43Speaker 6: of what happened outside Grasie Manchon obviously last week, there
- 54:46Speaker 6: was immediately after the war began, Austin, Texas saw an
- 54:51Speaker 6: act of apparently terrorism. So it does seem like these
- 54:55Speaker 6: events are popping up in some frequency just over the
- 54:58Speaker 6: last the first two weeks of this.
- 55:00Speaker 9: Or Yeah, So one of the rabbis at Temple Israel
- 55:04Speaker 9: in West Boomfield was a cabin counselor with me at
- 55:07Speaker 9: a Jewish summer camp outside of Indianapolis in the summer
- 55:11Speaker 9: of nineteen eighty seven after I graduated from high school.
- 55:15Speaker 3: Josh Bennett's his name.
- 55:16Speaker 9: And actually his older brother was my rabbi and still
- 55:19Speaker 9: is my parents' rabbi in Saint Louis. So this stuff
- 55:21Speaker 9: is hitting pretty close to home. So my first reaction
- 55:24Speaker 9: yesterday was like, shit, that's my friend in that synagogue.
- 55:27Speaker 9: And you know, thankfully, very quickly, you know that incident
- 55:33Speaker 9: was resolved thanks to the first responders. And mostly what
- 55:36Speaker 9: was going on in that synagogue at that time was
- 55:38Speaker 9: preschool and people shouldn't be afraid to go pray or
- 55:43Speaker 9: send their kids to pre school in synagogues or any
- 55:45Speaker 9: other house of worship. Anti Semitism is on the rise,
- 55:52Speaker 9: and we have to call it out and work together
- 55:55Speaker 9: to say it'll never be normal. It's got to be safe.
- 55:59Speaker 9: What are the local state strategies people are taking.
- 56:03Speaker 3: And it is.
- 56:04Speaker 9: Also true that in the wake of war violence gets
- 56:10Speaker 9: more common. That never makes it okay. Not okay for
- 56:14Speaker 9: Isis inspired terrorists to throw, you know, incendiary devices near
- 56:19Speaker 9: Gracie Mansion.
- 56:20Speaker 3: Not okay.
- 56:21Speaker 9: For someone to drive a vehicle into a synagogue and
- 56:25Speaker 9: then try to start shooting it up. Not okay for
- 56:28Speaker 9: Tommy Tuberville and Randy Fine to go on islamophobic rants
- 56:32Speaker 9: on social media. You know, the responsibility if you value
- 56:37Speaker 9: human life and you care about people is to tone
- 56:40Speaker 9: down rhetoric, to try to normalize understanding, to condemn acts
- 56:44Speaker 9: of hate. But one more consequence of launching a reckless
- 56:49Speaker 9: and illegal war, in addition to all the damage that
- 56:52Speaker 9: it's doing to millions of people there, is that it
- 56:56Speaker 9: has this sort of diffuse effect of spreading and normalized violence.
- 57:00Speaker 9: More broadly, so, some responsibilities on the hands of the
- 57:04Speaker 9: people who started it.
- 57:07Speaker 2: I was just gonna I have this quote from you
- 57:11Speaker 2: reacting to Tommy Tuberville, who is a senator saying the
- 57:15Speaker 2: enemy is inside the gates and posting pictures of nine
- 57:19Speaker 2: to eleven alongside mayor Mom Donnie and you reacted to
- 57:25Speaker 2: this pretty strongly. Is that I can't even find the
- 57:27Speaker 2: words to express how repugnant and despicable this post is.
- 57:30Speaker 2: People view such islamophobic bile don't belong in the United
- 57:32Speaker 2: States Congress. Job of elected officials to combat hate, not
- 57:35Speaker 2: fan its flame. Shame on Senator Tuberville, Keep New York
- 57:38Speaker 2: City out of your bigoted mouth. This Jewish New Yorker
- 57:41Speaker 2: is proud we elected our first Muslim mayor. We've seen
- 57:45Speaker 2: similar comments from Randy Fine a distressingly large number of
- 57:48Speaker 2: Republicans when confronted with these sorts of comments, Republican elected officials,
- 57:52Speaker 2: I should clarify unable to fully say that you know
- 57:55Speaker 2: that this is bigotry and call it out directly. Here's
- 57:59Speaker 2: Congress and Randy Fine saying we need more Islamophobia, not less.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Fear of Islam is rational. So first of all, just
- 58:08Speaker 2: your reaction to the extremely overtly bigoted nature of these comments.
- 58:14Speaker 2: And also I'm wondering, you know, if this is if
- 58:16Speaker 2: you're experiencing this in New York City, this rise in
- 58:20Speaker 2: overt Islamophobia, or if this is more of a national politician.
- 58:26Speaker 7: Direction.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Sadly, it's right here in New York City as well.
- 58:29Speaker 9: We've got a city council member, Vicky Paladino's comments or
- 58:33Speaker 9: right up there with Randy Fine and Tommy Tuberville, and
- 58:38Speaker 9: you know, the normalizing like to say, is we need
- 58:41Speaker 9: more Islamophobia. I mean, it is true on the one
- 58:44Speaker 9: hand that there have been more anti Semitic incidents and
- 58:48Speaker 9: hate crimes than Islamophobic ones over the last you know,
- 58:53Speaker 9: couple of years, but no one is saying anti Semitism
- 58:57Speaker 9: is okay. How do we combat it, what do we
- 58:59Speaker 9: do about it, how do we confront it? What is it,
- 59:02Speaker 9: who's responsible for it, what's its definition? All of those
- 59:05Speaker 9: are debates and questions, but no one I'm heard one
- 59:08Speaker 9: person say it's acceptable, It's all right. Hatred of Jews
- 59:13Speaker 9: is rational. You know, we at least have a consensus
- 59:16Speaker 9: that we're against Jew hatred, we're against anti Semitism, and
- 59:19Speaker 9: we're going to work to stop it. And lo and behold,
- 59:22Speaker 9: senators and congress members and council members of Republicans are
- 59:29Speaker 9: here saying we're going to fan the flames of hatred
- 59:32Speaker 9: of Muslims in a city that you know, we've got
- 59:35Speaker 9: about a million and a half Jews, We've got about
- 59:37Speaker 9: a million Muslims. We have our first Muslim mayor, and yes,
- 59:40Speaker 9: I am proud as a Jewish New Yorker to have
- 59:43Speaker 9: supported him and that we elected our first Muslim mayor.
- 59:46Speaker 9: That's what this city is as a place that welcomes
- 59:49Speaker 9: people from all over the world and takes people with
- 59:51Speaker 9: different religious and faith traditions and makes us into New Yorkers.
- 59:56Speaker 9: That's what's supposed to be true about America as well.
- 1:00:00Speaker 9: That's why we have to work harder to defeat Donald Trump.
- 1:00:04Speaker 9: This blood and soil conservatism that is being in this
- 1:00:08Speaker 9: case weaponized against our Muslim neighbors during Ramadan is really frightening,
- 1:00:13Speaker 9: and it unfortunately is likely to lead to there just
- 1:00:17Speaker 9: doing it on Twitter with words.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: But we know how this work.
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: Someone is going to be inspired by those words to
- 1:00:23Speaker 9: do something violent, and we've got work to do not
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: to let it happen.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: Lawmakers in New York have a challenge on their hands.
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: I have referenced your post about Gracie Mansion a couple
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: of times this week because I thought you it was
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: really the right thing to do, and it was so
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: well said you. After saying file displays of Islamophobia will
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: never be tolerated in our city, you then followed up
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: and said, I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions and posting
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: too soon, but I'm not sorry for hating Islamophobia as
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: much as I hate anti Semitism, and I just wanted
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: to ask. I mean, there are already cameras and YPD
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: cameras that have been surveilling New Yorkers, much to the
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: anger of civil liberty's advocates in the city for a
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: long time. But people don't exactly feel safe right now
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: with good reason. They're crazy things happening all around the country.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: How are we balancing or how do you think about
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: balancing those civil liberty concerns with also the very real
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: fears that people have of radical extremists taking measures into
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: their own hands, throwing explosive devices on the Upper East Side.
- 1:01:28Speaker 6: How do you think about those?
- 1:01:30Speaker 9: Well, but these lines are pretty straightforward. I think sometimes
- 1:01:33Speaker 9: people try to fudge them. It's permissible to protest and
- 1:01:38Speaker 9: say things and say hateful things like I am for
- 1:01:42Speaker 9: the freedom of those Islamophobic protesters who were outside Gracie
- 1:01:46Speaker 9: Mansion to be able to say vile, despicable, bigoted things,
- 1:01:51Speaker 9: and I'm for Tommy Tubberville and Randy Fines rights to
- 1:01:55Speaker 9: say despicable, vile, hateful things on Twitter and stand for
- 1:02:01Speaker 9: office doing so. I'm going to say I find them
- 1:02:04Speaker 9: vioted and hateful and despicable, and that we're going to
- 1:02:07Speaker 9: work hard not to elect them. And counter protesters calling
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: it vile and hateful and pointing out the islamophobia also
- 1:02:16Speaker 9: is important, and generally I will say the NYPD, in
- 1:02:20Speaker 9: my experience in this work, do a decent job, do
- 1:02:23Speaker 9: a pretty good job of separating protesters and saying here's
- 1:02:26Speaker 9: a place where you can protest, and here's a place
- 1:02:28Speaker 9: where you can counter protest. And the line was crossed
- 1:02:33Speaker 9: when people through explosive devices. That's when it moves from
- 1:02:39Speaker 9: speech to violence. And in that case also, I mean
- 1:02:41Speaker 9: the video of those NYPD officers running toward the devices.
- 1:02:46Speaker 9: To keep people safe like that is what we want
- 1:02:48Speaker 9: from law enforcement. It's a dangerous job to keep people
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: safe from violence because even the Islamophobes should not be
- 1:02:55Speaker 9: exposed to bombs or violence. I mean the mayor shouldn't
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: and the counter protesters shouldn't. So that line, I think
- 1:03:02Speaker 9: is straightforward, and we have a responsibility to like make
- 1:03:06Speaker 9: those distinctions. That's free speech. You've got a right to
- 1:03:08Speaker 9: say you shouldn't face violence for it.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: I hate it. I find it despicable.
- 1:03:12Speaker 9: I'm going to make work to everything I can to
- 1:03:14Speaker 9: make sure you're not in office, and violence by people
- 1:03:18Speaker 9: who are saying things, whether I agree or disagree with them,
- 1:03:21Speaker 9: is never acceptable and there have to be consequences for it.
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: So one more question on this before we move on
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: to the Hohcal thing with the broader context of obviously
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the Israelian vision of Lebanon,
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: now the war in Iran. Obviously, what do you think
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: the role of APAK is going to play or the
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: Israel lobby broadly in your election in your district specifically?
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: Do you think there could be some element of getting
- 1:03:47Speaker 7: support from the Israel lobby, could backfire, could be seen
- 1:03:49Speaker 7: as a negative. Where do you think that's going to
- 1:03:51Speaker 7: play out?
- 1:03:53Speaker 9: Look, APAC knows that it's support is being viewed negatively,
- 1:03:57Speaker 9: and that's why in all these Illinois races, ending money
- 1:04:00Speaker 9: saying here's our point of view, and it's opposed to
- 1:04:03Speaker 9: this candidate's point of view. They're just throwing trash and
- 1:04:07Speaker 9: dirt and whatever they can dig up at the candidates
- 1:04:09Speaker 9: whose point of view on Israel and Palestine they oppose.
- 1:04:13Speaker 9: So that's their playbook right now, I mean, and I
- 1:04:16Speaker 9: suspect they'll do it here as well. You know, Dan Goldman,
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: my opponent is heavily supported by APAK, and I assume
- 1:04:26Speaker 9: therefore there already is super PAC spending you know, for
- 1:04:29Speaker 9: him and against me in this race.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: And I imagine they'll be a lot more of it.
- 1:04:34Speaker 9: And yeah, I mean I think, you know, as a
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: Jewish New Yorker who like is really proud of it,
- 1:04:41Speaker 9: you know, is really clear about it, I think they
- 1:04:45Speaker 9: like even less someone that says it's time to end
- 1:04:48Speaker 9: unconditional US support for genocide. And what I believe, though,
- 1:04:56Speaker 9: is that the residents of New York's tenth Congressional District
- 1:04:59Speaker 9: feel that way as well. And they've seen the playbook too,
- 1:05:04Speaker 9: and they know me, and you know, I'm optimistic that
- 1:05:07Speaker 9: that spending will not change the opportunity to have a
- 1:05:11Speaker 9: real dialogue.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: But I wish we could do more about it. I mean,
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: let me be clear.
- 1:05:14Speaker 9: I passed here in New York something called the Independent
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: Expenditure Disclosure Act BOLD this local law in the country.
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: So if you do an independent expenditure in New York
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: City elections, the top three individual donors have to sign
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: their name on the lippiece or on the ad. That's
- 1:05:31Speaker 9: as far as you can go under Citizens United. But
- 1:05:34Speaker 9: Congress could pass a law not waiting for Citizens United,
- 1:05:37Speaker 9: to require super PAC spending be disclosed not just generically
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: on a website, but on the lit or on the ads,
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: and then maybe people would be less likely to throw
- 1:05:47Speaker 9: millions of dollars after, you know, such scurrilous advertising.
- 1:05:51Speaker 8: I did like that one last question on this theme
- 1:05:54Speaker 8: before Kalum taxes, in case people missed it. Yesterday we
- 1:05:59Speaker 8: reported that the name of the driver who drove his
- 1:06:04Speaker 8: truck into the synagogue was Aiman Gazella. And it turns
- 1:06:10Speaker 8: out and this is and I want to get your
- 1:06:12Speaker 8: sense and your reaction to this, because this is difficult
- 1:06:16Speaker 8: stuff to even talk about and contextualize, because it feels
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: like you're justifying. But of course we're all adults and
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: we understand that one that explanations or motives are not
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: necessarily justifications for violence. But we learned that Gazella's family
- 1:06:34Speaker 8: in Lebanon were four members of them were killed in
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: an air strike last week, his little niece, little nephew,
- 1:06:43Speaker 8: Ali and Fatima, and then two of his brothers, Kassim
- 1:06:47Speaker 8: and Ibrahim. And he posted on his WhatsApp stories overnight
- 1:06:51Speaker 8: their pictures and then the next thing we know, the
- 1:06:55Speaker 8: next day he attacks this synagogue. You know, how do
- 1:07:02Speaker 8: you how did you respond assume you saw that report,
- 1:07:06Speaker 8: how did you think through that?
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:07:08Speaker 9: I mean, thank you for the for the reporting, however
- 1:07:11Speaker 9: awful and horrific and challenging it is to think through. Look,
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: violence doesn't justify violence in response. War crimes, you know,
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: are not an excuse for a next war crime, you know,
- 1:07:23Speaker 9: and targeting civilians doesn't. Isn't justification for acts of violence
- 1:07:30Speaker 9: ort to harming other people's children. Obviously, the the people
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: of West Bloomfield, Michigan and Temple Israel are not responsible
- 1:07:38Speaker 9: for the deaths of his family members or other kids
- 1:07:42Speaker 9: in Lebanon, And blaming Jews generically for the actions of
- 1:07:46Speaker 9: Israel is a form of anti Semitism. So all those
- 1:07:50Speaker 9: things are true. And also violence begets violence, like when
- 1:07:56Speaker 9: people's families are killed, they're enraged and they lose their
- 1:08:01Speaker 9: ability in some cases to think rationally, and you lower
- 1:08:06Speaker 9: the bar on horrible things that people do. So I
- 1:08:12Speaker 9: don't think, I mean, yeah, I guess it's a nuance.
- 1:08:14Speaker 9: But it is the case that when Israel is at
- 1:08:18Speaker 9: war there are more acts of anti Semitic violence against
- 1:08:23Speaker 9: Jews around the world.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: That doesn't justify them, but it is a fact.
- 1:08:28Speaker 9: And this in particular, this reckless war of choice, when
- 1:08:33Speaker 9: there was not an immediate threat to anyone's safety, you know,
- 1:08:37Speaker 9: I guess I think like that's maybe the way to
- 1:08:39Speaker 9: say it here. There was not you know, they're not
- 1:08:43Speaker 9: on the cospagetting nuclear weapons. They weren't about to launch
- 1:08:46Speaker 9: a war or strike, so they were not immediately threatening
- 1:08:49Speaker 9: anyone with harm. And what Trump and Netta yahoo have
- 1:08:54Speaker 9: done is launched a war that's killed thousands of people.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: It's made millions of people refugees.
- 1:08:58Speaker 9: I guess I do want to underline this, well, they
- 1:09:01Speaker 9: have a right wing politics based on fear of refugees,
- 1:09:04Speaker 9: and they've just made several million people.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: Refugees in a way that's going to reverberate.
- 1:09:10Speaker 9: We might not feel that that'll be felt in Europe
- 1:09:13Speaker 9: more than here, that people fleeing Lebanon and Iran and
- 1:09:17Speaker 9: war start moving throughout the world. But the consequences of
- 1:09:22Speaker 9: escalating violence are bad for everyone, Like this war is
- 1:09:26Speaker 9: bad for everyone. It's bad for the people of Iran
- 1:09:30Speaker 9: who were bravely protesting for their freedom just a few
- 1:09:32Speaker 9: short weeks ago. They're not closer, doesn't look to me
- 1:09:36Speaker 9: like to freedom or stability, and many more are refugees
- 1:09:40Speaker 9: and many more are dead. It's bad for the people
- 1:09:42Speaker 9: of Lebanon. It's bad for Muslims here, it's bad for
- 1:09:46Speaker 9: Jews here. I don't know who it's good for.
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: Yeah, if I could just add one thing to that,
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: I think you're right when you say that. You know,
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: you particularly drive entities like APAT crazy as a proud
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Jew and also someone who criticizes Israel, because groups like
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: APAC and the ADL all the way up to Benjamin
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: nett Yiaho himself love to conflate all Jews with the
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: state of Israel. And I think what you also see
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: in you know, neo Nazis, by the way, do the
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: same thing the Nick fuentn does. Is of the world
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: love to make that conflation as well. And I think
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: what you see also with this attack is the way
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: that that puts Jews at risks, because if you're saying
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: we're all responsible, we're all in on this horrific genocide
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: and these horrific atrocities that are being committed, and you
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: create this sort of collective responsibility. Again, this is coming
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: from groups like the ADL, a pack, Benjamin Nett Yaho
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: as well as the far right neo Nazis like Fwent does.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: When you create that perception, then yes, that is going
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: to create more danger and more risk for all sorts
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: of Jewish people.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: Agreed.
- 1:10:55Speaker 8: So Kathy HOBELM Mack, do you have the Kathy Hobel.
- 1:10:58Speaker 8: So Kathy Hogel spoke yesterday, Brad, you could do a
- 1:11:02Speaker 8: better job of anything setting the stage here. But effectively,
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: the New York City has a and you're the former compshroller,
- 1:11:09Speaker 8: and nobody knows is better than you, has a balanced
- 1:11:11Speaker 8: budget amendment, which means you have to either have enough
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: revenue to cover spending, or you have to cut spending
- 1:11:18Speaker 8: to match that hen or you have to if or
- 1:11:21Speaker 8: you can raise revenue and if you're going to match
- 1:11:23Speaker 8: the spending. And so Zoramandani ran with your loud support
- 1:11:29Speaker 8: on a very clear platform of covering that gap by
- 1:11:33Speaker 8: taxing the rich. But the state has the power to
- 1:11:37Speaker 8: allow him to do that. As I understand, the State
- 1:11:40Speaker 8: Senate and the State Assembly have both now passed bills
- 1:11:43Speaker 8: that would raise taxes, that would allow for the raising
- 1:11:45Speaker 8: of taxes on the super wealthy. There's slightly different, so
- 1:11:48Speaker 8: they have to be conferenced, but in principle, the state
- 1:11:52Speaker 8: legislature now, so you have voters of New York City
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: agreeing that we need to tax the rich. You have
- 1:11:56Speaker 8: the state legislature agreeing that you need to tax the rich.
- 1:12:00Speaker 8: You've had Hokeel saying we're not going to do that.
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: You had the New York City President saying, New York
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: City council presidents saying we're not going to do that,
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: which then pushes things over to property tax increases instead,
- 1:12:09Speaker 8: which Mom Donnie has said, I don't want to do that.
- 1:12:11Speaker 8: So she ends up Julie what's her name, Julie Minin
- 1:12:14Speaker 8: Minin men In City. Yeah, so she's pushing for cuts instead. Hopel,
- 1:12:20Speaker 8: though it's this seems like the first break that we've
- 1:12:23Speaker 8: seen from from HOCl potential opening to raise taxes. Let's
- 1:12:29Speaker 8: play this clip and then want to get your response
- 1:12:31Speaker 8: to it.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: I philosophically don't have a problem.
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: It is like I have to look at the fact
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: that we are in competition with other states who have
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: less of a tax burden on their corporations and their individuals.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: The Progressive Working Families Party.
- 1:12:44Speaker 8: Yeah, so she said, I philosophically don't have a problem
- 1:12:47Speaker 8: with raising taxes on the wealthy. That is is that
- 1:12:50Speaker 8: a is that a new is that is that hopeful
- 1:12:53Speaker 8: for the Mom Donnie camp there it is.
- 1:12:55Speaker 9: I agree, that's the first time that I have heard
- 1:12:57Speaker 9: Governor Hockel say something that INDI Kate's room for compromise
- 1:13:02Speaker 9: with the legislature here. And look, there's a lot of choices,
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: you know, a great the state Senate Finance chair List
- 1:13:08Speaker 9: Krueger was on the Senate floor a day before yesterday
- 1:13:10Speaker 9: pointing out one of the things they've proposed is just
- 1:13:12Speaker 9: eliminating a tax break on gold bullion. It turns out
- 1:13:16Speaker 9: that if you hold gold bullion as a form of
- 1:13:19Speaker 9: wealth in your basement or I don't know, in your
- 1:13:22Speaker 9: bank in New York, you get a tax break that
- 1:13:24Speaker 9: was implemented a couple of decades ago, and just a
- 1:13:26Speaker 9: state on the books. Six hundred million dollars is what
- 1:13:29Speaker 9: the state is giving up every year by a tax.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Break on gold bullyon.
- 1:13:32Speaker 9: So like, that's not even you know, an additional tax
- 1:13:35Speaker 9: on ultra millionaires or an increase in the corporate tax.
- 1:13:38Speaker 9: There's you know, Americans know that the ultra wealthy have
- 1:13:43Speaker 9: found lots of loopholes and ways of shielding themselves from
- 1:13:46Speaker 9: fair taxation. And it's overwhelmingly popular. And I think the
- 1:13:52Speaker 9: fact that the Governor Ogle sees that the state Senate
- 1:13:55Speaker 9: and the Assembly have put these things in their bills,
- 1:13:58Speaker 9: and that we want to be able to expec and
- 1:14:00Speaker 9: child's care without cutting our schools or maintenance in our parks.
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: Is what we need to do.
- 1:14:06Speaker 9: And yes, she's right that other governors are also going
- 1:14:10Speaker 9: to face this choice in a world where you know,
- 1:14:14Speaker 9: Donald Trump is you know, as a result of sort
- 1:14:18Speaker 9: of the inflationary pressures of the tariffs, as a result
- 1:14:22Speaker 9: of so many cuts to federal policies. You know, New
- 1:14:25Speaker 9: York State is currently picking up food stamp costs that
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: were being borne by the federal government, and the city
- 1:14:30Speaker 9: and state together trying to deal with some big housing
- 1:14:33Speaker 9: voucher cuts that Trump made. So this is a choice
- 1:14:37Speaker 9: that governors and legislatures are going to be facing. And
- 1:14:40Speaker 9: the right answer is to modestly increase taxes on the
- 1:14:44Speaker 9: wealthiest folks. And that's what Albany has the choice to
- 1:14:47Speaker 9: do over the next couple of weeks. Modest increases getting
- 1:14:51Speaker 9: rid of that gold bullyon tax, a modest increase in
- 1:14:54Speaker 9: the corporate tax, a modest increase on New Yorkers who
- 1:14:57Speaker 9: make over twenty five million dollars a year, who love
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: New York City. They're not going to leave it as
- 1:15:03Speaker 9: a result of a modest tax increase we actually aren't
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: talking about. I mean, billions of dollars is a significant
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: amount of money. But what's necessary here to close the
- 1:15:13Speaker 9: budget gap for New York City and to allow us
- 1:15:17Speaker 9: to get toward universal childcare without big cuts, is a
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: modest increase on the wealthiest New Yorkers. And I hope
- 1:15:24Speaker 9: that you know Governor hokals comments yesterday indicate a willingness
- 1:15:27Speaker 9: to reach a deal with the legislature to get there.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Listen, I used to make fun of the gold bugs,
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: but I've been thinking lately maybe I need to acquire
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: some gold bully on given the stability of world right now.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: So I need to check here in Virginia if we've
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: got any similar tax breaks on the books. One more
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: thing from me. In any case, I wanted to get
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: your reaction. Former Governor Cuomo had some had some thoughts
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: on you, Brad, and so I wanted to get your
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: reaction to this. You and also Zoron of course, So
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: let's take a listen.
- 1:15:56Speaker 10: Now, Look, there is no truth anymore, there is no
- 1:16:01Speaker 10: accountability anymore. What Zoran knows is you stay whatever is
- 1:16:09Speaker 10: convenient to say, just putting out there on social media.
- 1:16:14Speaker 10: Of course it's not true. He was shocked and surprised
- 1:16:18Speaker 10: that there's a twelve billion dollar budget. Mayor Adams lied
- 1:16:21Speaker 10: everybody like, Yeah, it turns out he's the liar, Brad Lander.
- 1:16:25Speaker 10: I don't think he's got a genuine bone in his body.
- 1:16:27Speaker 10: He's a pandering politician, the Democrat far lefty. He wanted
- 1:16:33Speaker 10: to patronize the far left and show that he was
- 1:16:38Speaker 10: with them in his anti Israel views. That's what it is. Pandering,
- 1:16:45Speaker 10: pure pandering.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: This man has really wanted to talk about accountability. In
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: any case, let him cook. Yeah, there you go. In
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: any case, Brad are you are you patronizing me? Right now?
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: I respond to it.
- 1:16:59Speaker 9: I mean first I was like, I mean, Andrew Cuomo
- 1:17:01Speaker 9: is a master of projection. Obviously, he's never had a
- 1:17:04Speaker 9: seriously held position other than whatever benefits Andrew Cuomo. And
- 1:17:07Speaker 9: he can't understand anyone else believing the things they say.
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: I think that's pretty straightforward.
- 1:17:14Speaker 9: I responded with some letters I had written to my
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: hometown Jewish newspaper in nineteen ninety when I was a
- 1:17:20Speaker 9: junior in college, when I expressed more or less the
- 1:17:24Speaker 9: same point of view on Israel and Palestine that I
- 1:17:27Speaker 9: have today. That newspaper had published some political cartoons making
- 1:17:31Speaker 9: Palestinians look like rats, and I wrote the editor, who
- 1:17:34Speaker 9: had been my teacher in Sunday school, and said, please
- 1:17:37Speaker 9: don't do this like we have to find a way
- 1:17:41Speaker 9: to mutual recognition and peace.
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: And you know, I linked it on my Twitter. If
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: people want to go read the back and forth, you can.
- 1:17:47Speaker 9: But what I responded with is yes, I started my
- 1:17:51Speaker 9: long con of faking my positions on Israel when I
- 1:17:55Speaker 9: was twenty years old in nineteen ninety, just for the
- 1:17:58Speaker 9: purpose of trolling and defeating Andrew Cuomo diabolical.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: Every minute was worth it. It's chess, all right.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure you have a lot to get to
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: you today, and we're really grateful for your time, Brad.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: If you can let people know where they can go
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: to find out more about your campaign or support it
