- 2:38about that. Coming up a little bit later on. Want to welcome to
- 2:40the show though now canidate for Kin Circond Judge Ashley Deem Ashley, good morning,
- 2:45welcome to the show. Good morning, Thank you for having me,
- 2:47Thank you for being here, I say, and welcome back to the show.
- 2:51Because you the last time you were on here, I guess you announced
- 2:53that you were going to be running. How have things been since then?
- 2:57Oh, so busy it's been. I think it's been three months, almost
- 3:00to the day, and I've been traveling all through Kenagg County. I've done
- 3:05more trunkard treats than you can imagine. I've got parade scheduled this weekend.
- 3:08I've spoken to about every conservative group that will have me, and I've been
- 3:13door knocking meeting voters. I've met thousands of people, and I've truly been
- 3:16humbled by the support I've received so far. Well, and you know,
- 3:20I posted the pictures I always do of all my guests upcoming on the show,
- 3:23and the picture that you have was one of your recent deer kills,
- 3:28and it's got the CAMO going on. Give us a story about that,
- 3:30because that'll make Chris Lawrence happy. So I want to do that. So
- 3:35I have been hunting with my dad since I was about ten years old,
- 3:38and so I was very fortunate. I had a great opening day this year,
- 3:43went out and was lucky enough to harvest a six point buck. I
- 3:47probably killed about mid morning. It was a beautiful day. I know many
- 3:52very many people in West Virginia, in particularly Kenagg County, had a great
- 3:54day that day as well. As you know, Opening Day in West Virginia
- 3:58is a state holiday of sorts of course. Yeah, and the whole week
- 4:01is practically given away. In case anyone missed your last appearance on the show,
- 4:05tell us about Ashley Dean, give us the bio. Yeh. So,
- 4:09I'm an attorney here in Charleston. I'm a lifelong West Virginia, lifelong
- 4:13Knack County, and I'm really fortunate to be taking the opportunity to run for
- 4:17Circuit judge right now. I think that, you know, it's a time
- 4:19for change in Kannall County and it's the time that you know, we have
- 4:24the currently have believed that I have the ability to make those positive changes that
- 4:28I'm happy to be here and running for the seat, so to make changes.
- 4:30That's one of the main reasons is why you're running. What else,
- 4:32really, well, what are some of the other reasons why you're running for
- 4:34judge? You know, I feel that it's the time is right now for
- 4:39Kannall County to you know, we have a Circuit Court. In my opinion
- 4:43right now, that doesn't entirely represent the Kenaw County residents. We have a
- 4:47liberal circuit court for the most part. I think we need to sort of
- 4:50bring that more in line with the voters of Kannall County. So that's that's
- 4:53another big reason. We talked a lot about efficiency last time as well.
- 4:56I think that that's something that I can bring to the Circuit Court. Well,
- 4:59since the last time that you were on, Judge Jennifer Bailey announced that
- 5:01she will be running for reelection to the bench, and I realized that further
- 5:05rules and REGs of your particular any judicial race in West Virginia, there's stuff
- 5:11that you can and can't say, And you know, it's a totally different
- 5:14ballgame when it comes to judicial races in West Virginia, how you can campaign
- 5:18and so forth. But I did read one piece that you had presumed that
- 5:24the Judge Bailey would run again and your words as they were spoken to the
- 5:28West Virginia Records, your words, I am the only Republican running for this
- 5:31nonpartisan seat, and I meaning you expect a resounding victory. In quote and
- 5:38you referenced Judge Bailey's having been appointed by a liberal Democratic governor more than twenty
- 5:43years ago. That was from the West Virginia Record dated November twenty eighth.
- 5:47I realized, again, there's things you can and can't say, so I
- 5:49don't want to get you in trouble here. But any follow up to that
- 5:51statement, Yeah, so when I filed, you know, three months ago,
- 5:55I did assume that that Judge Bailey would file. She's been there,
- 5:58you know, as I said in that interview, she's been there for over
- 6:00twenty years. I do feel very strongly that I'm a strong candidate for this
- 6:04race. You know, it's always intimidating to run against a for any attorney,
- 6:09to run against a sitting judge. That's why I think a lot of
- 6:11times we see sitting judges who never have opponents. For example, Judge Bailey
- 6:15has, to my knowledge, has never had an opponent since being appointed in
- 6:17the early two thousands. But you know, again, as you said,
- 6:21judicial races are different. You know, I can talk about what I'll do
- 6:26and I can talk about what I won't do. I won't be a judicial
- 6:29activist judge. I won't play politics from the bench. I feel very strongly
- 6:32that I'll be a good judge for knag County. Again, we're talking with
- 6:35Ashley Deam, who is a candidate for circuit judge here in Kanawha County.
- 6:40You talked about efficiency as you mentioned the last time that that you were on
- 6:44the show, and again that was how a long ago was that you run
- 6:46the show? Three months or three months ago to the day you were on
- 6:49the show. And whenever you're running, Ashley, as you well know,
- 6:53for any office, there is a learning curve even before you get in because
- 6:57you're when you're out talking to people and you learn things and they'll say,
- 7:00you go your campaigning door to door and they say this, and you kind
- 7:03of kind of get a game plan. What do you hear from the from
- 7:06the public out there? So what I've heard so far is, you know,
- 7:11I hear a lot of people who say they've never met any of their
- 7:14judges in Kinwak County. And so that's not always a bad thing. There
- 7:18absolutely is a very fine line between you know, sort of but but what
- 7:23I getting to know them and standing before them are two different things. That's
- 7:26exactly right. That's exactly what what I do here is that you know,
- 7:28it's I hear from a lot of people, it's refreshing to have, you
- 7:30know, a judicial candidate knock on their door. And you know, I
- 7:33think that again Aji said, it's not a bad thing, but I think
- 7:36this idea that there's this judicial elite that you know, shouldn't interact with the
- 7:40public and shouldn't have more of that open dialogue and hear what the voters want
- 7:43to hear. And you know, see what see what voters want to see
- 7:46in their judges. You know, they we know that they want a judge
- 7:48who's going to be tough on crime and and you know, give criminals the
- 7:51just punishment that they deserve when they come in and they try to do harm
- 7:55to our citizens. And so that's that's really the narrative I've been hearing from
- 7:59the voters. You know, we had a situation and I'm kind of going
- 8:01off the rails here. There's nothing really that any judge could do about this.
- 8:05But this horrific double murder that just took place a couple of days ago,
- 8:09where a grandmother lost their life in a ten year old boy lost their
- 8:13life as well. And they say that if and I was actually doing little
- 8:18research on this, again, this is no this is no faultge. It's
- 8:20more of a fault of the judicial system that this guy, because the biggest
- 8:24thing they said about this guy is why is this guy still out? Well,
- 8:26the reason that he was out is because he had all these charges against
- 8:30him and either police officers, who I have nothing but the utmost respect for,
- 8:35either police officers or the accusers, and domestic violence situations didn't show up.
- 8:41And I don't know how. I don't know if there's anything a judge
- 8:45can do about that other than just say somehow, we have a broken system
- 8:52that we have to fix now. That may be more under the Dome in
- 8:56Charles, in Charleston or nationwide. That what it is of, you know,
- 8:58the fault of the judge. But I don't know how you get by
- 9:01that, judge, I really don't. Yeah, I think that you know,
- 9:03I have read about that. I don't you know, I'm not super
- 9:05intimately involved with the details, but from what I understand, you know,
- 9:09that was you know, at happened to the magistrate level, perhaps something like
- 9:13that, And I believe that the Kanak County Prosecutor's office actually asked for those
- 9:16charges to be dismissed. Maybe in one of those cases, again, I'm
- 9:18not particularly okay, but I do know and as you said, I'm sure
- 9:22that the officers in that case absolutely did the best they could to bring him
- 9:26to justice. And sometimes, yeah, but if people don't show up,
- 9:30and then who knows what. And I'm not trying to get into that situation
- 9:33because who knows what went on, what was what the dynamic was. But
- 9:35the bottom line is a lot of people would say across the country that we
- 9:37do have a broken system. And I don't know that it's the job,
- 9:41the job of the judge necessarily to fix that. But got to put the
- 9:46right people there, whomever that they may be. Where can people learn more
- 9:50about your campaign if they want to find out what you stand for and uh
- 9:54and so on and so forth, we can learn more about your campaign?
- 9:56Sure, So I do have a website ashleydem dot com, have Facebook page.
- 10:01I post a lot of updates things like that. You can check out
- 10:03Dogs for Deem, which is my most important coalition so far. Explain that
- 10:07I got to hear I've been meeting a lot of dogs on the campaign and
- 10:09I'm I'm just gonna tell you, I'm going to be in the couple parades
- 10:13this weekend and the theme is all dogs, Dogs for Christmas, Dogs all
- 10:16the time. I hope everyone loves that. And I'm actually also, now
- 10:20that you mention it, releasing a new social media ad video today where I
- 10:24talk about, you know, the importance of having a strong judge. He's
- 10:26going to be tough on crime and delivered the you know, the punishment that
- 10:30the law would prescribe. And so I hope that you all see that as
- 10:33well. But I'm happy to you know, please reach out to me,
- 10:35please, you know, my email addresses that sort of thing on my website,
- 10:39and I again want to just meet as many voters as I possibly can.
- 10:41And it's still early too. I mean, you know, we have
- 10:45May fourteen, Yeah, so you still got a few months out there.
- 10:48But doing these Christmas parades is a great way to meet. But what parades
- 10:50are you doing this week? And on my I'm going to be at Bell
- 10:52and Campbell's Creek this weekend. They're back to back next weekend. I believe
- 10:56I'm in pinch. So there's so many parades. We did several of them
- 11:01modern stations last weekend. I'm going to give you thirty seconds, as I
- 11:05typically do for candidate's uninterrupted by me, and you're not on We're not actually
- 11:07going to time it, So give me approximately thirty seconds and tell me why
- 11:11people should vote for Ashley Dean for Circuit Judge of Canon Canny Well, I
- 11:16would appreciate your vote. I'm out here, I'm working hard. I'm meeting
- 11:18as many people as I possibly can. I believe, you know, efficiency,
- 11:22more transparency to the circuit courts, which is obviously important if you want
- 11:28a judge who's not going to be a judicial activist, not it's going on
- 11:31going to play politics from the bench, someone who's going to hear the facts,
- 11:35interpret the law, not try to rewrite the law. I'm the judicial
- 11:39candidate for you, all right, Ashley, We wish you the best of
- 11:41luck and have a very merry Christmas and a happy new Year. Thank you,

- 14:52Patty is our producer Today Texas Dave. During the Hobby Show, there was
- 14:56a Dave Allan Show promo ad feature Mike Stewart talking nonsensically about black black berries.
- 15:01Was this a coincidence that the ad aired after the show that Stuart was
- 15:03outed as being insuperable and friend friendless or did you feel bad for the guy
- 15:09so you aired? What was his attempt to humor while I have I have
- 15:11no control over anything to do other than this show, and I barely have
- 15:16control of this show. Uh so I did hear the promo yet? When
- 15:20when the Mike Stewart was on the show, he talked he did this analogy
- 15:24about blackberries, and I thought it was funny, and I told Mike after
- 15:28the show, I said, I'm probably going to use that in a promo,
- 15:31just so you know. So now I have I heard it. Yesterday
- 15:33I was listening to hoppy upstairs, but I had I had no idea what
- 15:37was airing there? Uh Texas judiciary races are supposed to be nonpartisan. Candadates
- 15:41need to keep the D and the R out of their races. Judge Fairley
- 15:46and apply principles of the law period. Uh Texas tougher charges for animal abuse
- 15:52and neglect. Question mark, So Texas cops no showed the domestic hearings because
- 16:00the victims won't testify. No victim, no crime. It's tragic. It's
- 16:03a very true statement there. Text says I'll be a strong judge, but
- 16:07have no clue about the gruesome double murder. Nor do I have a clue
- 16:08how to address the deficiencies in the legal systems. Vote for me? That
- 16:12is, according to a texture Dave Allen shown five to eighty lives presented in

- 16:34what you don't know can hurt you. Tonight, three of the four major
- 16:37candidates for governor will be on stage in Morgantown for a gubernatorial debate moderated by
- 16:42our own hobby Kerchival. They will to get more Capito. Secretary of State
- 16:45Mac Warner, businessman Chris Miller will be there. Absent will be the guy
- 16:48leading in the early polls. It's Attorney General Patrick Morrissey opting to skip out
- 16:52to night. The debate, by the way, can be heard here on
- 16:56this station, and you can view it at wv metronews dot com. Brad
- 17:00mclahanney joins us now to discuss it. Brad, good morning, how are
- 17:03you? Good morning? And you made me hungry? Yes tonight we're going
- 17:06to have BlackBerry pie, BlackBerry cobbler, BlackBerry ice cream and say BlackBerry Well,
- 17:11and that's unfortunate because that's going on in Morgantown and I am going to
- 17:17be in the Canal Valley tonight, so I will not be going to Morgantown.
- 17:19But maybe you saved me a piece, all right yesterday, Brad,
- 17:23I had had Rob Cornelius on the show, and Lord, was that like
- 17:26a tornado blowing through here. He and I talked about, well, other
- 17:30than the impending felony indictments that he predicts for coming to a courtroom near you,
- 17:34we talked about Attorney General Patrick Morris. He's skipping the debate tonight now.
- 17:37Robin said he understood, and I guess I do too. But am
- 17:42I wrong Brad in saying that if I am an undecided voter and a lot
- 17:47of people are right now, I mean considering it is early, that the
- 17:51filing period hasn't even officially started, and I'm wanting to hear from all the
- 17:53candidates, and the leading one ain't there. Does that sound famili I'm sound
- 18:00like a familiar something we've heard on the national level. It does, except
- 18:03the guy you're referencing was president at one point, so he is running as
- 18:08a semi incumbent. People people generally know what he's about, and he is
- 18:15way way ahead in the polls. Consistently, state level, there is no
- 18:22incumbent in the governor's race. Governor Governor Justice, a two term incumbent now
- 18:29is up against the term limit. And you might have heard he's running for
- 18:32US Senate, what really he is, So it's it's an open seat General
- 18:40Patrick Morrissey, who has giving giving him political credit. He's won three state
- 18:45wide races in that office. He's he's been on a high profile platform fighting
- 18:52against Joe Biden and Barack Obama. So you know he's political record, but
- 19:00he is not the incumbent for governor. The polls consistently, you can believe
- 19:07whichever poll, but when they show a pattern, you know, maybe give
- 19:11that some consideration. There has been in the ones I've seen higher than twenty
- 19:17percent undecided, it's still relatively early, while while also getting late, and
- 19:23so those are people that you know, you could reach out to and to
- 19:27Night's debate with west Rshinia. Metro News is a way for those twenty or
- 19:33more percent undecided to begin thinking about, all right, who are you actually
- 19:40going to vote for? And listen very carefully to the messages of Secretary of
- 19:45State Mac Warner, who has won that state wide office twice. House Judiciary
- 19:51Chairman More Capito, son of the U. S Senator, grandson of the
- 19:53former governor and businessman Chris Miller, son of the incumbent Congresswoman Carol Miller,
- 20:02you know, to listen and figure out what flavor of black beer you like.
- 20:07So I will say this. I watched the and I'm gonna if I
- 20:10get time, I'll talk about this a little bit later on Brad. I
- 20:11watched the presidential debate from Alabama last night on News Nation and told my wife,
- 20:18who, you know, I was paying close attention. I don't know
- 20:22that she really was, but that's okay, because you know, she's probably
- 20:23better off not paying attention to it as much as what we do. But
- 20:26Vivid Ramaswami was on the last side, and he even talked about he got
- 20:32kind of gave inadvertently Patrick Morrissey a little bit of a nudge because he referred
- 20:36to the West Virgini University the BA case as the most important case over the
- 20:40last several years. I think he said, and you know that's all Patrick
- 20:44Morrison. I mean, that's on Patrick Morrisey. And that's why so many
- 20:47people liked the job that Patrick Morrissey's done as Attorney General. And I'm sure
- 20:52he's going to try to parlay that into what he could do as governor.
- 20:56So I want to say this as tonight in Morgantown. While this debate is
- 21:03going on with the three that are there in Charleston, a guy who many
- 21:07believe wants to be Secretary of State has a gathering at the Culture Center.
- 21:12It's Chris Warner, former state party chair, brother to the current SOS Macwarner.
- 21:18He is expected tonight that he is going to announce he will be running
- 21:22for Secretary of State. Kind of curious timing on that with his brother on
- 21:27stage in Morgantown. Would you agree with that? Yes? And I don't
- 21:33know that I necessarily understand the strategy, but you know, name recognition is
- 21:38hard to come by. The Warners have been in politics for many years.
- 21:45Chris himself has been involved in politics and the legal system. So you know,
- 21:52it appears to be an advantage of sort of drafting off of the Warner
- 21:56name and the brothers and father all being involved in politics and uh, you
- 22:04know, kind of establishing a brand. Uh. There is a bit of
- 22:08a time difference. What time is Chris's event, Like, I think it's
- 22:11a six, Yeah, it's Culture Sets seven. Yeah, And I'm sure
- 22:15they'll have it on down there. I just thought it was interesting that it
- 22:18was on the same day, but Hey, look, I'm not one to
- 22:19question their strategy. Obviously, you know they they know what they're doing,
- 22:23So I just thought it was interesting. Uh uh in in my opinion,
- 22:27what do you as far as on stage tonight, and again it'll be three
- 22:33of the four major candidates will be there, how do you think it's going
- 22:37to go? As far as you think it'll be a little chippy. I
- 22:38mean, lord knows, nothing could be worse than these presidential debates like the
- 22:41one I watched last night? But uh, how do you think it'll go?
- 22:45You know, I I hope it will be in formative debate, but
- 22:51relatively informal. I believe it's around a big table, It's not like a
- 22:56podiums. I think Coppy has some questions he wants to get at, but
- 23:02he I believe, has the intent of letting the conversation flow a little bit.
- 23:08And each of these candidates who are participating, Warner, Capito, and
- 23:14have described themselves as different kinds of conservatives. Warner saying, you know,
- 23:21I'm going to fight for West Virginia traditional values, Capito saying I'm gonna get
- 23:26it done. Conservative referring to the practical aspects of passing legislation, and Miller
- 23:33is saying he wants to bring his business experience to bear as West Virginia's chief
- 23:38executive. And what I hope Hobby can do is give West Virginia voters,
- 23:42particularly those undecided voters, a greater sense of what these candidates might do on
- 23:51policy matters, how they're overriding conservative philosophies differ from each other, and how
- 24:00that might actually for a chief executive who is controlling who is going to be
- 24:10in a leadership position of the many agencies of state government. And we're talking
- 24:15to Brad McIlhenny about the gubernatorial debate in Morgantown, and you can catch that.
- 24:18We'll have it on the radio here and also you can watch it at
- 24:22wvmetronews dot com. And again Attorney General Patrick Morrissey opting out. I had
- 24:26one political observer who told me this wasn't on the show, but off the
- 24:32air. They said, well, it's a great opportunity for the other three
- 24:34to attack the guy who's not in the room, meaning Patrick Morrissey. I
- 24:40don't know that necessary. And again I don't know. I'll be watching just
- 24:42like everybody else. You know, I won't be in Morgantown. I'll be
- 24:45in Tay's valley tonight, but I'll be watching like everybody else and be interested
- 24:49to see how it all plays out. Whether they do that. I have
- 24:52a feeling that they're probably not going to do that. Now twenty four hours
- 24:56from now, I'm going to look like an idiot, as I normally do,
- 24:59because I got it all wrong. I don't say necessarily that happening.
- 25:03Maybe I'm wrong. What do you think? You know? What Morrissey has
- 25:07said is he thinks that this debate is a bit early and he would like
- 25:11to wait until after the filing period, right, and there will be more
- 25:15debates. This is not the only one, so there will be more.
- 25:18He and his campaign have this thing also about we don't want to have the
- 25:22media taking a leadership role in organizing the debates, so let's work it out
- 25:26among ourselves. Well, working it out has not worked out. But you
- 25:30know, he has made his political reputation as being a fighter. I'll fight
- 25:33Obama, I'll fight fight, I'll fight for you. And symbolically, what
- 25:40message does it send when he is sitting out the fight tonight. I am
- 25:44not sure it is consistent with his political persona he will not be there.
- 25:48There will not be an empty chair, but Patrick Morrissey at the Fighter will
- 25:52not be fighting tonight, twenty seven minutes away from Tamaday Vallen Show on A
- 25:56five. Any lives broad Toe bared by Bridge Valley. Are you interested in

- 26:18closely the hearings pretending to a propose rate hike that Wes Virginia American Water has
- 26:22been asking for somewhat heated at times over the last couple of days. What's
- 26:26the latest there, Brad? Yeah, And so it is a rate hike
- 26:30that was virching the American water put in four months ago. The wheels of
- 26:36the Public Service Commission turned somewhat slowly. It is what forty million dollars.
- 26:41I don't have it in front of me right now. Roughly a twenty percent
- 26:45for your your water bill. Well, recent fiasco on the West Side where
- 26:56a waterline broke and then had apparently some effect on gas lines and then for
- 27:04several weeks eliminated gas service for West Side customers, that's not really a part
- 27:12of this. It's a higher view issue. But you know, it's hard
- 27:18to separate one without the other. I mean, I think, particularly for
- 27:21Charleston residents, what you think of is the recent water company involvement in the
- 27:27loss of gas service. Before that, you know, you think of the
- 27:33inability of Charleston firefighters to access water from a hydrant on an emergency basis in
- 27:40Rick Cavender's home that destroyed his house, and that brought on a look at
- 27:48what is the service for West Virginia hydrants on an emergency basis, And you
- 27:52know, Canau Valley customers. It's been a while, but it's hard to
- 27:57erase the memory of people in the Canal Valley being without water because of the
- 28:03chemical crisis of years ago. So all of those themes are i think running
- 28:08in the background of what the Public Service Commission has been talking about, but
- 28:14they are not necessarily central to the argument. The argument really is what financial
- 28:22resources. Does the water company need for capital improvements and investments? And can
- 28:27it justify that request? Brad? Before we let you go, did you
- 28:33watch any of the GOP presidential debate last night? I did, and I
- 28:37thought that it was better than some of the prior ones because the candidate field
- 28:41had been narrowed down and each of them got a chance to truly be active
- 28:47and have some interactions that seem meaningful. I think the remaining candidates are diverse
- 28:53enough in their positions on the political spectrum that it was an interesting debate.
- 29:00And you know, News Nation, which is maybe not people's it's relatively new
- 29:06and new to people's viewing habits. I thought that News Nation tried to put
- 29:10its best foot forward and had an interesting multiple rounds of questions. Well,
- 29:15I'll just say this, And I watched, as I said, start to
- 29:18finish, and I will just say this, when it comes to these debates,
- 29:22and there's got to be And I'm not a tech guy, you know,
- 29:25I just sit here and talk behind the microphone, Brad. But but
- 29:27I think there's got to be a better way than them talking over top of
- 29:32each other. And I mean, I think he needs some more hardcore I
- 29:36mean, I have Makan Kelly did a great job last night. The other
- 29:37two not so much. But I think there's got to be a better way
- 29:44to silence the mics or something, because it was total chaos. And I
- 29:48will say this, and this is just my opinion, not depending of anybody
- 29:52else. Vivid Kramaswami is an ass I said it. I mean he is.
- 29:56That is my opinion. I mean I think, I mean, I
- 30:00don't know how anybody could support this guy based on his the way he behaves
- 30:04in public. That's just me. It's incredible to me that he remains on
- 30:11the debate stage based on a minimal track record of his only public service has
- 30:18been in his own business capacity. But the former vice president of the United
- 30:22States the stage he's now out. US senators and governors who were in the
- 30:29race, I'm thinking of Tim Scott in particular, have already dropped out,
- 30:33and somehow Vivid continues, Yeah, I don't get Brad. Would you be
- 30:38in Morgantown th I are you going to be watching like the rest of us?
- 30:41I know you and Hoppy and Jeff have kind of worked together on some
- 30:44things. Are you going to be up there eating popcorn and are you going
- 30:47to be at home or what are you gonna be doing tonight? I'm going
- 30:49to be I'm going to be at the debate. I'm going to be pulling
- 30:53multiple duties, which may include popcorn. I will be writing for the Western
- 30:59Hei Metro News website a story after the fact, and immediately after at eight
- 31:04pm, along with Jeff Jenkins, Danny Jones, and others. I will

- 31:15should be a lot of fun. So if you're a radio listener or a
- 31:18video streamer, hang around not only for the debate, but you know,
- 31:22the spin room afterwards. All right, Rad, I appreciate you being here.

- 35:42Charleston. Maryor Amy Goodwin joins us now to talk about it. Mayor,
- 35:44good morning, How are you? Good morning? I'm wonderful. How are
- 35:47you all? Second appearance in a week. I know, I know it's
- 35:52gonna move in big night in Charleston tonight. Talk about it. Yeah,
- 35:54it's really exciting. You know. We change the Christmas Parade from a time
- 36:00parade to a night time parade a couple of years ago, and gosh,
- 36:05she was the amount of participation and people are now at record levels. We
- 36:13have about one hundred and seventy five entries tonight and thousands and thousands of people
- 36:20will be downtown. Thanks to Mother Nature, she's going to be a little
- 36:23bit better to us than in years past, and so it's going to be
- 36:28it's going to be exciting. Indeed, it is now a lineup starts at
- 36:30five, The parade starts at seven. Biggest Christmas parade possibly in Charleston's history.
- 36:37I have all the details posted the Dave Island Radio and Facebook and Dave
- 36:40Alan Show on xey artist forming known as Twitter. It's also available on the
- 36:44city's website and your social media and I do just want to throw this in
- 36:47Mayor. I got a word sent to me last night from the folks at
- 36:51Asterig Auto and the Charleston Police Department that they are going to be doing their
- 36:54toy drive, that they will be collecting new and unwrapped toys during the parade
- 36:59tonight, so look for them as well. They got they actually sent me
- 37:01a picture of what this vehicle is that they're going to have in the prey.
- 37:06But they did want to specify safety. They want people to bring out
- 37:09toys, but they don't want people running in the in the traffic of the
- 37:13parade. So yeah, please, that's number one. We will come to
- 37:15you, our folks from the Charleston Police Department will be collecting toys for our
- 37:21kiddos in town who need maybe a little extra help this season. So thanks
- 37:24for bringing down an unwrapped toy will come to you. You know, everybody
- 37:30says all you excited about the parade all morning long. When I went to
- 37:32the gym this morning, people said that it's a big night and it is
- 37:36thousands of people, largest prade we've ever had. Largest, I would say,
- 37:38holiday prayed in the state of West Virginia, I would venture to say,
- 37:43and it's exciting, it's great, and some of the floats are going
- 37:46to absolutely knock your socks off. But for a mayor and I will be
- 37:51participating, I'm going as a We have a theme from the Mayor's office,
- 37:53as we do every year. My number one concern is always safety. When
- 37:59you switch from a day to a night, it adds excitement and vibrancy with
- 38:04the lights, but it also adds an element of safety. And so please
- 38:09you know, as you're watching or as you're driving in in the parade,
- 38:15being in very strict rules and for good reason. Dave, you know that,
- 38:19and you know kids, you know, jumping out to get candy it's
- 38:22it's it's a fear of mind, but also too somebody taking a wrong turn.
- 38:27You know, you you have to make sure and we do. We
- 38:30troubleshoot, we do tabletops on this of you know, if we had an
- 38:34emergency, how do we exit? You know what, what are the protocols
- 38:37that we put in place so people don't make wrong turns down streets or if
- 38:40they do, there are blockades, there are barricades. And while that doesn't
- 38:45sound like fun and games, and it isn't, it's my number one priority
- 38:49during an event like this, just as it is all big events in the
- 38:52city. What are the things that we need to do to keep people safe?
- 38:57And so my eyes will yes be on all the kiddo is having a
- 39:00great time. But also we'll do another review before the parade starts tonight,
- 39:05running through all of our safety protocols. Indeed, and again as I said,
- 39:08you know you can, folks do a great job with your social media
- 39:10and on your website, and I try to share as much as I can
- 39:14on my social media. Please note that there's going to be some traffic issues
- 39:19in Charleston leading up to the parade. The five o'clock lineup there's gonna be
- 39:22some some street closures and things that nature, because it's a it's a big
- 39:25old parade here. It's a big old parade. Like I say, it's
- 39:28the biggest I venture to say, in the state of West Virginia, certainly
- 39:30the largest one we've ever had. And you know, but this is what
- 39:34our downtown businesses have requested as well. They love it, just like Holly
- 39:38Jolly Brawley. And the thing about the Christmas Parade that is, you know
- 39:44has changed over the years is there's so much more to do downtown now.
- 39:46And so when you get here, my suggestion is come early, and by
- 39:52the way, if you need to leave early, it's going to be a
- 39:55challenge. So just you know, a lot of folks have said, well,
- 40:00you know, I hate it because it snarls traffic. We try to
- 40:04do our very best, but you're absolutely right. When you have a big
- 40:07event like this and you have a big parade, you might be sitting waiting
- 40:10to pull out of town. We have better protocols in place, we believe
- 40:15to get the floats you know, which were coming down Capital by the way,
- 40:20Dave and coming up summer. So we'll make a left on Washington,
- 40:22then come right back on Summers and then making a right back onto the boulevard.
- 40:27We're going to try to get those floats and keep number one, keep
- 40:30it moving, one hundred and seventy five entries. Dave, by the way,
- 40:34it is a lot. It is a lot. And you mentioned the
- 40:36weather earlier. The weather is going to cooperate. I mean for this time
- 40:40of December, and you know with Christmas parades and I've been in plenty of
- 40:43them over the years of my time, you're everything from snow to sleep,
- 40:45the ice to storms. Absolutely nothing you can ask for better weather for the
- 40:50Christmas Parade the night. Yeah, we're really excited because there's so many there's
- 40:53so many young people that are participating in the parade. The game has been
- 40:58upped. I mean, not only are we going to have, you know,
- 41:01wonderful folks like the Kelly Bogs dance studio from Winfield who won last year.
- 41:06Who I mean, they're just there's so much fun to watch. But
- 41:09you know, our arts department, you know, we Jeff Pearson and John
- 41:14Butterworth knock it out of the park every year with the it fits the toy
- 41:19theme. This year, Buddy, I can't wait for you to see it.
- 41:22It's absolutely amazing, amazing. So it's a lot of excitement and we're
- 41:30really excited to put this on again. But you know, make no mistake,
- 41:34just like Holly Jolly Brolly, just like you know, making sure that
- 41:37everything is picture perfect over at the ballpark for our late the night events as
- 41:43well. It takes a lot of time and preparation and folks, a lot
- 41:45of police officers are going to be out tonight, a lot of folks from
- 41:49our traffic department keeping people safe and things moving. It's you know, it
- 41:53takes. It's a lot of hands on deck. Let me say, Dave,
- 41:55to put on a show like this, and that's what this is.
- 41:59It's it's a show. Any indeed, it is Mayor. I know you
- 42:01got a lot to do. I will let you get back to it.

- 45:53he should be there as Trump should have been on stage in Alabama last night.
- 45:58And by the way, I want to say this, hats off to
- 45:59Chris Christy, uh like him or not, CHRISTI is the only one with
- 46:02the testicular fortitude uh to uh to call it out Donald Trump, Uh,
- 46:08Nicky Haley, whom I like, won't do it. Ron DeSantis, who
- 46:14I also like somewhat won't do it. And Ramaswamy. Uh, well you
- 46:17heard my feelings of Ramaswamy earlier. He won't do it either. But anyway,
- 46:22I digressed back to Thebates night. Check it out w Metro news dot
- 46:28com. Let's go to the phones and you are on the air. Go
- 46:30ahead, Hello, Hello, you're on there, David the Jackal, Yes,
- 46:37sir, uh, I wanted to talk to you about a lot of
- 46:40things. I know it's been a while since I checked in. You know,
- 46:47the legislative session in West Virginia is getting ready to come up. So
- 46:52I think it's time we got back to this show's the strongest area of influence,
- 47:00which is policy. Okay, we talk a lot about state policy on
- 47:05this show. I think it's time that we started evaluating how our courts are
- 47:12administrated. We need to start thinking about our magistrates. Our magistrates are ordered
- 47:22to have a law degree. Anybody with a GED can be a magistrate.
- 47:29How can you expect a person that knows the legal system to interface with a
- 47:36magistrate when there's just a level of education they don't have nor understand Why am
- 47:46I expected, as a prosy litigant to be able to file things that are
- 47:54in Latin in front of a guy I'm not even sure understands English. Well,
- 48:00there is a certain amount of education that goes on with being a magistrate.
- 48:04I mean it's not just like you just show up in West Virginia.
- 48:07All you have to have is a GED to be a magistrate, right,
- 48:09But I mean there's there's on the job training. Because I have some very
- 48:14good friends of the job training get out of here, man. Law school
- 48:16is three years long. Okay. We've got people that are serving as magistrates
- 48:22in West Virginia that that can't pass a basic basic English competency test, much
- 48:32less anything start in law school. We need to get serious requirements into these
- 48:38courts for the people that judge the rest of us. Have you reached out
- 48:45to anybody in the legislature about this? I have, Okay, and I've
- 48:51reached out to somebody. Maybe you're not in favor of Okay Buskin. Bushkin
- 48:55and I are great friends. We just disagree politically, but we're actually great
- 49:00friends. You know what. One of the best things about this show has
- 49:06been the fact that people that come from the opposition, like myself, are
- 49:10allowed to speak. I would invite you to have Delegate Pushkin on to speak
- 49:17about this particular issue. Well, he's on quite regularly, so I'll bring
- 49:21it up the next time he's here. I think this is one of the
- 49:23most important issues in the state of West Virginia. When an individual goes to
- 49:30court, the first person they're brought before is a magistrate, not a judge.
- 49:36A magistrate. If these magistrates are not schooled in the law, what
- 49:43kind of crazy decisions do we get? My entire life has been disrupted and
- 49:51destroyed due to the decisions of magistrates that don't even have the same level of
- 49:59education and I enjoy and they speak to me is if I'm beneath them.
- 50:07Okay, it's kind of crazy. You work so hard to get an education,
- 50:14but because one guy's popular with his ex girlfriends in a community, he's
- 50:21better than you now and he knows more than you, and it doesn't It
- 50:27doesn't matter who's read more books. All right, all right, well,
- 50:30I appreciate your phone call, and I promise you I will the next time.
- 50:35I will bring it up to Delegate Pushkin when he's on the show.
- 50:37Tex says, remember when Trump cloud on Christie's wife, then Christy got upset.
- 50:40Then Christy went and helped Trump. Fortitude isn't the word to describe Chris
- 50:45Christy. I was talking about this particular incident. Now there's a lot of
- 50:47things I don't agree with with Chris Christy, but I'm talking about this particular
- 50:52in his calling out Trump. I do agree with him on that, but
- 50:54that's not over. That's not an endorsement. Bindy Stretch the imagination text says,
- 51:00you owe royalties to missus Foley's baby boy for using the testicular fortitude phrase.
- 51:06Yeah, well he sorry, and that's a reference to Mick Foley.
- 51:08Micfoley wasn't the first person to use that. That's been used by a lot
- 51:13of people. A little slow going coming into Charleston this morning. Cones were
- 51:16placed on the fort Hill Bridge for some reason, which seems like a good
- 51:22idea, you know, during the morning commute, but just know if you're
- 51:25coming into the city. Not sure if it's still that way or not,
- 51:28but just know there was a backup. I got through it pretty easily this
- 51:30morning. However, after me, I understand traffic was backed up to Dunbar
- 51:35because they had one lane closed eastbound coming into the city. So just letting
- 51:38you know that. Let me leave you with this if you're looking for something
- 51:42to do in Charleston tonight, before, during, or after the parade and
- 51:45joined my buddy Steve Animal from ninety to seven Mountain. He'll be broadcasting life
