- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think we need to get them any more fired up here, but if we had, uh, it by the way for listeners, it's nine, nineteen, p.m.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: on Monday.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_03]: If we had filmed this at nine, nineteen, a.m.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: This would have been a totally different show.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: Totally different.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: I rated our show.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_05]: It would have been so current kick us off.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: What's the what's the week like for you the week was the week was good man.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: I flew out to national on Wednesday.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: I got out there Wednesday morning.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: I hit the show Wednesday and Thursday.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: It was solid man.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: It was a good time.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: This was my second national last year Cleveland.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I didn't really have anything to compare it to everybody kept saying that Chicago.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Chicago is better than Cleveland, I mean, as a city.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm sure.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can make that argument, but I had from a national standpoint, Card Show standpoint, I had no.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: what I did with to expect.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: And it definitely was a better setup.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: It was definitely was a better show.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: I made, I sold more than I bought.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: It was an overall successful show.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: But most importantly, you know, my goal going in there was really just to kind of catch up with people and network a bit and meet people that I haven't met before.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I was, that was the success.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: So it's good to be back.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's good to be back buying.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, man, we got the second half of the summer kicking off over here.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_05]: The grand continues baby.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_05]: So I took all three boys.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_05]: Hamhouse and full effect had Matthew, which by the way, today's recording is used.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_05]: Fifteenth birthday.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_05]: So Matthew from the CEO's happy birthday, buddy.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: Be birthday.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for being a part of.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: I nominate Gary to.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: seeing happy birthday right now.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_03]: I sin a cake is an ice cream cake though, so it might get melted.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_05]: That's what that package was.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, all three boys and I can tell you this the twins came and I'm super proud of them and I'm going to count.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_05]: I will talk about the natural from our perspective.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_05]: If you're grazing away at my identical twin boys, they're thirteen.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_05]: They're about fifteen much younger than Matthew.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_05]: And they've always kind of like hung out in the shadows for the sports car thing.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_05]: And this national, they took to it like a wrecking ball.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_05]: And they were just, I was so proud of a man because they started to understand the dynamic of like
- 3:02[SPEAKER_05]: finding out what people are looking for, understanding how to buy, where to buy, what to buy, and then who to kind of target selling to, and then they were able to like, you know, kind of roll that.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_05]: So they started out with like, they had done this often on over the last couple of years.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_05]: I think I started them out with like, three hundred bucks, like a year ago, and they'd probably only go to shows a year.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_05]: They had gotten it up to two grand at this national, and they doubled up.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_05]: So they came home with like forty three hundred and now like why it one of the twansies like that.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_05]: I think weather hopes to buy.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go get it weather hope blue nine and I was like man, these boys are just diving in.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_05]: So that was super cool.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_05]: And then Gary's boys were there with him on Friday during the day and
- 3:45[SPEAKER_05]: Gary's three boys and the twins mostly and and and then they were running all over the place and that was a super cool to see you know getting out of whatever I wish all three of us would have been there at the same time, but selfishly it was kind of cool because like I got some current time on the front end I got some
- 4:00[SPEAKER_05]: So it was, it was a lot of fun for us.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_05]: We crushed it.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_05]: We're going to go over our predictions and then what actually happened when we get into the recap, but just incredible week.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_05]: I'm really tired.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_05]: We hardly slept anyway.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_05]: Just just nuts.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_05]: But what about you, buddy?
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: I'll just say I love when Matt Ham seems like a really, really calm guy on the show here.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_03]: He's got like that calm demeanor.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_03]: when he gets a national mode baby he's like he's like party boy he's like party boy to a clock in the morning does not slow him down when he's at the national he is he is enjoying every minute of it as you heard last week I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it
- 4:39[SPEAKER_03]: My boys did not stop begging me.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it didn't matter that they had football Friday morning.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: Didn't matter that we had school orientation Friday afternoon.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_03]: We high-tilled our butt up to Greenville, which is about two-hour drive from our house, because I didn't want to go through Atlanta traffic on a Friday.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_03]: And we flew from Greenville to Chicago, brought my eight-year-old, ten-year-old, twelve-year-old son.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I couldn't be more happy that we did.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_03]: We had a ball together.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: They all got in the car on the way home.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: We got in that we got back to Atlanta about eleven thirty by the time we landed didn't get home to one thirty but the whole time they just dad.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_03]: We loved it.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_03]: We loved it.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_03]: And that's really what my messages were going to go into what the show was like here in a little bit.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_03]: I just, I just really love this hobby for kids, man.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, if you can shield them from the negative stuff, what they get out of it, the confidence that they get to build out of it, the fun they get out of it, the time they get to spend with other people, what an amazing hobby because it started for all of us.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_03]: at some point when you're a kid.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_03]: And it's really just cool to see now that I know one day kind of like that old tops commercial where the dad's there with this kid.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_03]: He's had that card in the little tray for forty years.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_03]: I can kind of start to see that work and inside of my kids right now where like my son the other day said dad if I don't end up making to the pros one day.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_03]: I might move in my own card shop.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's just cool to kind of see your kids get into it and get to share that time with them.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_03]: But I can't wait to dig in and tell y'all more about the show because my predictions couldn't have been any more wrong on what I thought my show was going to look like.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_03]: But I could have told you that one.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but it was a it was a fast and furious.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: I was there eighteen hours and good to got any more done in that eighteen hours.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_03]: It was a good to see you have can't wait to see my boy current again.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: I'm hoping.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: and we'll put current on the spot here.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_03]: We need to do a live episode.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_03]: We've got a lot of Southeast fans here, current, a live episode, culture collision in September.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_03]: We need to do it at the show in September, in person, sells some cards, talk to some people, do a live show.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_03]: We can get everybody there.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_03]: Do it.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'll tell you what, man.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_03]: You can count me out.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: There we go.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_05]: I can't do it.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_05]: I will see.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_05]: I will say this guys.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_05]: Like I was wildly blown away by how many people came up to us, hollered at us, high five dust asked us for their opinions.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_05]: Like I was I was standing there like looking at Tom Brady and this guy hollers across this like barrier and he's like CEOs and I was like, what's up?
- 7:15[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, my show.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_05]: That happened.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_05]: All that.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_05]: And so it hit me man, like, I am so grateful for this work called CEO community fire listeners.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_05]: I can't.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_05]: Getting this feedback from you guys that like, y'all are loving it.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_05]: And so we continue to put, you know, our heart and to put in this podcast together for you guys.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_05]: And like, I love the community that we built.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 7:39[SPEAKER_05]: And like, this was just about us having our community.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_05]: And it's like we've invited all these other folks into the community.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_05]: It was just super cool, man.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_05]: It was like so overwhelmed about that, just super grateful.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I want to have a big shout out to our hobby friends because as you say that, we have a lot of you guys that have been friends got a mutual friends of ours that were separate friendships.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_03]: Matt, you've had friendships, current, you've had friendships, I've had friendships.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_03]: And when you get to see those people with a national and get to hear that these people are supporting our show the way they are.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even know that a lot of these people were listening.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_03]: And these have been friends of mine in the industry, you know, co-bomb and people in the market, and they all just go, man, I love listening to it every single week.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_03]: And I just I really appreciate that because I mean, we didn't do that this show for that, but it's it is ultimately the reward, you know, when you when you when you go every single week, like you guys haven't missed a week, I've missed one.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_03]: And we've really put a commitment into it, but it's been so much fun and and really to be and continue to get the feedback we get.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: It makes it that much more fun to do it when you know there's people that are enjoying what you're doing and I don't think the best is yet for the show.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_03]: We've got lots of new ideas and things to do, but the key of this show is to always keep it to the way we want to just start it.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's three friends getting on here talking sports, business, life, baseball and just being real.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_03]: And the day that we can't be real is the day that this show stops in my opinion.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_03]: And so at one day, then we'll come back to why my morning was so bad.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to have an episode, called the Dark Side of the hobby because that's on my chest today.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_03]: And if I can lay out some, I got a lot of stuff built up in here.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_03]: That episode's coming.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_05]: So let's what can kick off this thing.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_05]: So we had some national predictions.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_05]: Gary, this was your idea, actually.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_05]: And you said, boy, it's given me your predictions.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_05]: And so it's really, really interesting.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_05]: So I went back and listen.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_05]: And I wrote these down current.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_05]: You said that you were going to sell fifty K in inventory and buy about ten K. Yeah.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: So a sold about, I said, sold about eighty K. And I probably bought about.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: Hmm.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's ended up on the cases of opening Europe.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: I probably bought about maybe twenty five thirty nothing crazy.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_05]: So for Hamhouse, we had said, okay.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_05]: And we'd probably buy about twenty.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_05]: So we ended up, and again, we bought and sold like on cider, whatever.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm just counting total sold inventory.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_05]: We did about a hundred and ten thousand dollars in total sales.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_05]: And we bought probably around twenty k like home with us, right?
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: But it's around what you expected.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: You said like transact between like one twenty and one two and I thought we would probably buy a little bit.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_05]: The thing is is that the crazy thing for us, the thing that hit me was like the actual amount of net profit we got because of the deal that we transacted.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_05]: We had a couple of crazy situations that just kind of fell into our lap.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_05]: And little man it's just so good at recognizing like market trends and so you know he had to sit the way and like here's an example.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_05]: We had a guy that he knew that was looking for an orange prospect was a ten ten BDS ten ten little Matt new the buyer.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_05]: And he saw it in the place and called the botany or he said, hey man, I found an orange tint and I can refer to his wit or it was.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it was Ellie and little Matt said it and the guy said, hey, thanks for doing that for me and basically.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_05]: gave little Matt and Eduardo Quintero true gold for that transaction.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_05]: And so it's like a twelve hundred R card.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_05]: We moved that card at trade night.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_05]: So like that was a twelve hundred dollar deal that didn't even involve any capital.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 11:27[SPEAKER_05]: And then we had some other situations where you know, but it's funny too little Matt and I we kind of got into a little bit of an argument, but like
- 11:34[SPEAKER_05]: We had a black Connor Griffin that was in a PSA eight slab and we were having some difficulty moving it and you know, this somebody came to the table and they ended up, you know, kind of waffling at the number that I gave them.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_05]: I asked a little Matt what his bottom was without kind of telling him what I had told them my ask was I said I'm asking seven and they were kind of waffling.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_05]: I asked I said what's your bottom line here?
- 11:56[SPEAKER_05]: Little Matt said five K and they snapped it up for five K.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_05]: And then we found out a few hours later, I think they moved it for like six or sixty five or something.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_05]: And he was bombed and I was like, but listen man, that's part of the deal, right?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_05]: Like, we made money on that card because we bought it, right?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_05]: They made money on it.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_05]: Everybody's happy.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I'm saying?
- 12:12[SPEAKER_05]: So like you have to kind of learn the nature of at the national so much stuff that's flowing.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_05]: And you just have to capitalize on it.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_05]: And if you get too tight on your margins, your numbers or whatever, you can miss out on opportunities.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_05]: And so we were able to roll something at stuff and to other stuff.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_05]: and do it just completely snowballed.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_05]: Like, we literally did a third of our year in sales over the three days we were at the national.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_05]: This is us.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_05]: And I will, we'll say this too.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_05]: I want our listeners to know, we actually invested about three grand in a professional videographer and an editing team.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_05]: And they followed us all day on the show floor on Friday.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm super pumped at what's going to come of that, because it was some phenomenal content.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_05]: And I think that we talk about how we approach cases, how we approach deals, how we approach all this kind of stuff.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_05]: And I think it's just going to be a really cool like hands on almost like documentary of the national for us that day.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm super pumped.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_05]: That should be edited and coming out later this week and we can let our listeners know, but it was, it was a lot of fun, man.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think I saw clip of clip of you.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: Possibly.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_05]: Possibly.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_05]: I don't remember.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_05]: Possibly.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_05]: That's good.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_05]: And now I can't wait to see that.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_05]: So Baba had a shirt made before the national said, I love buying.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_05]: And then he went to the national and Baba has a new shirt.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_05]: I like selling.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_03]: I think I figured out I like it all.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_03]: So my prediction couldn't have been more wrong.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_03]: What was my prediction mat remind me exactly what I said?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to buy ten times more than I'm going to sell.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_03]: So, so my buying, it was not a result of me not trying to buy.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't have time to buy.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_03]: I got to the, uh, got to the national winter trade night and, um, got to meet, thanks the little Matt, got to meet some people in the hobby that I needed to meet.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: Some really good relationships that I think are going to help me going forward.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_03]: Some people that are just good to know in the hobby.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_03]: So that took up most of my trade night.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: Just spent most of the night with those folks.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_03]: We need to get in the deal done.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_03]: That evening, and then right into the next day, same thing.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_03]: I had Nick Tucker, who was on the show a couple weeks ago, introduced me to somebody else.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_03]: And spent a lot of time with them, got a deal done right off the bat, and I brought some inventory up to a friend of mine.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_03]: And he put it up in his booth as well over the, and he had a pretty good spot inside the, inside the convention center there.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_03]: And so all said, I ended up buying two cards.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, too.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_03]: They were pretty big cards.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_03]: One was the Roman Anthony Red, nine, five, bought it twenty minutes before leaving the show.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: Just had no idea that I was going to fall into that card.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_03]: I have sold that card.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_03]: I put it up not even the intention really of selling it yet.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_03]: Put it up kind of showcased it.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: The new me now putting stuff on Instagram.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody came up and said, hey, do you want to sell it?
- 15:14[SPEAKER_03]: And so I did.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_03]: And then also about a Caleb Williams gold caboom, which I know current logic, the big fan of those vertical cabooms.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: So that is available current if you're interested.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but all said I ended up buying two cards probably totalling somewhere around forty five thousand, but I ended up selling and I'm still totalling the numbers, but it appears it's going to be over three hundred thousand on the show.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_03]: So in eighteen hours,
- 15:42[SPEAKER_03]: In attendance at the show, it looks like I may have done over three hundred thousand sales.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: But eight to five, six percent of the vote is in in Georgia.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_03]: The vote is almost in at three hundred.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_03]: But no, it was moral, the story for me at the national was there's something there for everybody.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_03]: If you've never been, if you've been in the past and you think you know what it's like, my national this year was totally different than the one I had before.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like the next one I have is going to be totally different than the next one that I have.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so my advice would be if you've never been go, we'd love to meet you there.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_03]: Next year, I hope we're doing a live broadcast.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_03]: I actually, I mean, that means a ton to me that we do that.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think it'd be a lot of fun, but the show is a phenomenal show.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_03]: I could have never been more high on the hobby than I am right now through walking out those doors where the hobbies at.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_03]: And at the same time, I think more clear headed.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_03]: I was really pissed this morning, but I also think now I'm really clear where I'm going and what I'm doing in this space.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm just really thankful what this hobby's doing for us.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, one of the things that I kind of took a step back while I was there, I don't remember at what point, but maybe it was like Thursday night and I kind of took a step back and realized, you know, I was thinking about like, what makes me somewhat successful at like what I'm doing in
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: the hobby, right?
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: And like we all have our own ways of success or measures of success.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: I should say in doing what we're doing here, but it's really eye-opening and doing some deals that I just gotta keep sticking to what we know, you know, Bowman is so niche in general, but I know what I'm good at and I know what I'm not good at, you know, at recognizing the prospects that I like and why and using the resources to kind of like
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: you know, understand, you know, or kind of approve what I'm thinking, right?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then my strategy is to get in early and get in, you know, strong.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: But it's paying dividends now in that the guys that we did, we have gone on early and strong, you know, the people that are buying these cards now are the ones that aren't doing that work, right?
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like they're paying the premium.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_02]: and we're seeing more and more of those people and so it kind of just reminded me like stick to what stick to what we're doing and stick to what you're good at no matter what that is you know I'm telling I'm sharing with you what I think I'm good at it's jumping on cards that I want when as soon as they're hit and making a deal is quickly as ever right and it's having conviction in a prospect because I'm prospecting and I'm watching these guys every single solitary night and
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: talking to the right people to approve what I'm looking at and and going in big on them, you know, like, yes, you could say if those guys don't hit or don't have success, then I fail, right?
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm getting where I'm going to have those, but like the point is, is that somebody has to be the one to get in early and and make those margins for the guys that are going to pay a premium and the people, people pairing a premium are out there.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: They're not necessarily the people in our Bowman world.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: that are looking to do the same thing that we are, but there's people out there that when those Connor Griffins become number one or those Sebastian Walcoz become a top five guy that you're gonna be able to move those cards to.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I kind of just took a step back and like everybody, the bottom line is my advice is just whatever you feel that you're good at, whether that's moving on ten percent margins in high quantity, continue to do that.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: Don't try to switch it up.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like continue to do that if you're having success.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_03]: Well, on that note, I told Justin today for the all in the any listeners that don't know this is probably most of you don't know this.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_03]: I've got a guy that works for me in the card business and really all he does is spreadsheets for me.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_03]: He runs all my spreadsheets.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_03]: He does all my shipping.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_03]: He does all my grading reviews.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_03]: He does all my organization because I'm not very organized.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 19:35[SPEAKER_03]: Ham and and current here to buy hey shows at nine I'm on at nine ten I mean that's just you know that's just the kind of guy I've just that's just I'm not organized I just never him so I've realized that about myself so I had a higher somebody that was and he was at my house today and we were getting the grading all together and we were doing all this stuff and I looked at him today and I said I want you to write this down and every time we get to because we usually get together once a week
- 19:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I said, I want you to remind me of this every single week going forward.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_03]: I said, do not allow me to buy anything going forward that I am not willing to stash tomorrow, meaning don't think that I'm so smart that I can get in the moment and not want to own that card a week from now or a month from now.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_03]: In that moment, I have to think that there's future value going forward in that player, meaning if I'm buying a PSA nine and I crack it and it goes back in a nine, where I buy a raw and I grade it and it gets a nine, I should want to keep it because I believe in that player.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_03]: I shouldn't want to go.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_03]: But so many times right now is looking at cars I had today.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_03]: If I got a nine, I'm like, man, let's just need to get rid of this guy.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even believe in this player.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_03]: I bought this car because I thought I was going to get the ten or I bought this car because I thought I could do the quick flip to me.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_03]: You want to lose your ass in this space by stuff that you really don't have that conviction in and you'll lose every time in my opinion when I look back.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: You might get lucky occasionally, but if you buy that guy that you're just like, you know what, whether holds to the guy.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm going to use him as an event example.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to use Kirk's as an example.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to use Connor Griffith as an event.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_03]: I can use a lot of names that we've all been talking about.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_03]: If you had had conviction in those guys at the beginning and you had said, oh, I got the nine and you had held the nine, you would be winning.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: That doesn't mean it happens every single time, but you can go through a list of a lot of the other players that I did the same thing with, that I never should have bought because I never had the conviction in them.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_03]: I just thought that I was just, oh, I'm going to hedge my bed over here.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_03]: So I think to add to what you're saying, Karen, hopefully that makes sense.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: I know I'm kind of jabbering there, but that's that was kind of my aha moment of today.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_05]: You know, it's funny like we've all kind of put you talk about like, you know, what's your good at?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_05]: You know, and it's interesting for me because I feel like I have the ability to understand people's motivations and really kind of meet those people where they are and help them kind of accomplish the thing that they want to accomplish, right?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_05]: And so it's no different in the card hobby.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_05]: There are guys that are looking for inventory that they can turn and make ten percent on.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_05]: There are guys that are looking for somebody that they want to hold long term.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_05]: And so it's like understand the buyer like this is I've been a sales guy on a whole life.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_05]: That's what I am and that's what I do in the insurance industry.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_05]: And you become really good at listening to people and watching people and understanding what it is that they're trying to accomplish.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_05]: And then you become an advocate for helping them accomplish what it is that they want to accomplish.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_05]: And that's what's made us good in the card space, man.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_05]: We start to recognize the angle that you can play to help people accomplish the things that they're looking for.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_05]: And in turn, what you do is you're able to make some capital off of that.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_05]: And for me, a big part of this was this unification of my family, like me being able to do something with my boys.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_05]: And here we are, man, all four of us running around the show floor, you know, having like, I will tell you.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_05]: Everybody watching this y'all all have kids and occurring you've got your boys gear you have your my boys file time.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_05]: They just they do they're always competitive over everything they found and I almost get emotional thinking about it boys got along so well this week like they were all in their space man.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_05]: They were getting along
- 23:08[SPEAKER_05]: like Matthew with half out of the twins that they like make deals and stuff.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_05]: And they were so happy.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_05]: And then like I legitimately am like this, these are my sons.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_05]: These are the boys.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_05]: Like when they're home, they don't have this outlet and they're fighting because they don't have to get the energy out or whatever.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_05]: And it's like gosh, guys, you'll drop me.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_05]: But then the national with them are like, man, these are my boys.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_05]: They're doing their thing.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I'm saying?
- 23:30[SPEAKER_05]: It's like that for me, it is really what this is all been about and be never capitalizing that at the same time with enjoying the process, man.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_05]: It's just so, so key.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_05]: And again, everybody's different.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_05]: There might be a single guy out there who doesn't have kids, but this is his outlet from his medical device sales.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_05]: And this is what he's going to do.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_05]: And like, it's great.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_05]: And that's why I love this hobby.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: Well, one question I had for y'all.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about this before the show.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: What?
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: What are y'all's thoughts about what you saw this show as far as cards in general?
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: What percentage did you see, Bowman?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: Did you see as much as you thought you'd see not as much?
- 24:05[SPEAKER_03]: What's kind of y'all's feeling what you saw in cases and what you saw it trade night and whatnot?
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I got to be honest.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I didn't see every table.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there was not a lot.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't walk around a ton.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I mean, I walked around, but I wasn't looking at showcases that much to be honest because so I was just with kind of like a group of five, six guys and
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of made PC like my home base, you know what I mean?
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: Because I was that put some cards up there, I'd BS was that a little bit and I was kind of hanging out there.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: And the other guys that us with were kind of spread out and they were making moves and buying and selling.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, we were on a group text and if they saw a good moment table, they would text the number, they text the picture of something that was good.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I go over there and look.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I can't speak for like what percentage of bullmen that are out there because I probably saw, I saw I probably saw a ten percent of the tables there.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: I really did.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like the deals that I did were like, I mean, fifty percent of it was that one table, you know, like with one person.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the deals were really with two people in general.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: And that took place at like one table.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I wasn't really, wasn't really walking around looking.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't want to miss speak on behalf of like, you know, what percentage of cards were booming out there.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_05]: In our case, we had three scavengers all over the shoved floor.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_05]: You know, and what I did think I'd write down here.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_05]: you know, venue.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_05]: That's Chicago venues fantastic.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_05]: The way they've got it divided left-hand side of the room is primarily vintage and you know, you've got your corporate space over there.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_05]: The far back left-hand side is kind of like your modern, you know, mean more high end, you know, guys.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_05]: And then in the middle, you've got your breakers prevailing, you know, the name with some corporate stuff mixed in.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_05]: And then on the right hand side, you've got this more corporate space.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_05]: And then, you know, more what I thought was like kind of like vintage and nineties, like rare kind of low population type stuff.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_05]: And there were some bum and scattered in.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_05]: So my thoughts on that is no, every table did not have bumming.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_05]: But bumming is still this ridiculous niche within this hobby that
- 26:08[SPEAKER_05]: It's the drug that guys don't admit to using.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_05]: These guys are sitting on the big color.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_05]: They're in the background.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 26:17[SPEAKER_05]: It's I'm kind of holding on to my guy.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_05]: I'm doing it in the shadows.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_05]: It's not the RPA out front flashing in your face.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_05]: It's the guys got it snuck behind the case.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 26:29[SPEAKER_05]: Don't want to let anybody know that he has it.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_05]: And again, when you get these situations, and then you get somebody who comes to trade night and they go, hey, I know you're a booming guy, boom, and you're like, yes, thank you very much.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 26:41[SPEAKER_05]: I'll take that.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_05]: I think that that I will say this.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_05]: There's last thought about that on the show for.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_05]: I think the pricing was very challenging.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_05]: And it's interesting because the vendors pay so much to have those tables.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_05]: They almost have to build an agent to make it look for them.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_05]: But at the same time, like, you know, it's frustrating when you're offering fair on cards that are just not reasonably right through the market.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_05]: And so if you're walking around the dealer table, dealer table, dealer table, just trying to make deals that way, it makes it really difficult.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_03]: Did y'all do y'all go upstairs at all?
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: Either one of y'all?
- 27:17[SPEAKER_03]: Did y'all go to the upstairs area?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_03]: We did not.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_03]: We did.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_03]: So I went up there at the very end.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_03]: That's actually where the Roman Anthony was.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_03]: I couldn't, but that's where there was a lot of deals going on up there.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think that was kind of a forgotten zone.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_03]: But there was a
- 27:29[SPEAKER_03]: It was a ton of stuff going on up there.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_05]: It was just a shot.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_03]: It was.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, in that area was packed, there was a fair amount of baseball up there going on in that space.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, what's interesting is to hear other people's perspective.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_03]: And I was talking to one of my buddies today who does not do prospects.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_03]: He does Bowman, but he does not do prospects.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_03]: And he's very active in the, in the hobby.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_03]: He actually works in the hobby.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_03]: And we were talking about the show to the man, hey, we didn't get to catch you up.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_03]: He's a good friend of mine.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_03]: Has been a long time in the shit in the,
- 27:59[SPEAKER_03]: In the hobby and he said, man, I was talking about prospects.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, man, I'm still telling you to get in prospects, man, you're getting in prospects.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: And he said, man, he said, I could, I didn't see any at the show.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_03]: He said, it didn't hardly see any prospects.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't hardly see that much modern baseball.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_03]: And it's the same thing, but it's also the best news that anybody listening to the show right now can hear.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_03]: because it's what's keeping these prices safe is if those cars because this is the thing and I thought about this, this thought came to me earlier today too.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_03]: Why am I buying oranges?
- 28:30[SPEAKER_03]: Why am I buying reds?
- 28:32[SPEAKER_03]: Why are we buying super fractures?
- 28:34[SPEAKER_03]: Why are we buying these high number stuff?
- 28:35[SPEAKER_03]: The three of us, right?
- 28:36[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we buy it in a lot of ways for protection.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_03]: We're buying it for protection.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: And the protection of that is that if a guy was in the show this weekend and he brought this inventory that he's been wanting to sell to get cash for the national.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_03]: you
- 28:50[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_03]: All, okay.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_03]: All was given away.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_03]: What did they give away?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_03]: Four point something million dollars that they gave away and cash advances on cards going in.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody was doing.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, dump your cards here.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to give you cash for the show.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: If you own a gold or you own a blue or you own a purple, you were at risk that one of those guys dumped his card and then another person dumped their card and another person dumped their card and another person dumped those cars and four of those suckers might run here in the next two weeks.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_03]: And that thought hit me today in the same auction too.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_03]: And then when some other guy goes, oh, I just paid XYZ for this car, guy dumped it.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_03]: You're just, and that's the life that I remember living a couple years ago.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_03]: And so I just, to me, it just solidifies why staying in that space of cards and booming itself is very insulated to that.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_03]: And I want to say that this is as a niche, we're insulated for the most part.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_03]: Most of these guys that are out there dumping these cards aren't dumping what bone in first.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, aren't dumping prospects.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: Do they know what they have?
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just going to say something right now.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: If you think that there's going to be a top prospect that you want to read of
- 30:04[SPEAKER_02]: But I can guess it because Gary and I are going to own those suckers.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to, we are going to, we have cornered the market.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to continue to quarter the market.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: So look out.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: You want to fight for a top red.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: You're coming through me.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: You're going through Baba.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: Just telling you that right now.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: So pay up, pay up.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_03]: that the Yorker just clung out of the day did for some reason it's just I just got I just got a wait I just got annoyed he got annoyed by like the thought of like a gold owning a gold that's where a fifteen hundred dollars and some guy selling for seven fifty and that your cards were seven fifty
- 30:39[SPEAKER_03]: I want to say this while we're there because we're going to get back to the deep dark side of it.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: This is all I want to come to this, but this is happening.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and if anybody on the show that's watching today doesn't say it's happened, you're foolish.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm gonna say it right now, I was looking at cops before the national.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_03]: And we're just gonna use a very common card that probably was the most common card at the show for football fans, a kaboon.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and I'm heavily invested in a kaboon.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just using as an example.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_03]: And then as an example for why Bowman's insulated as well.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_03]: Before the show, most of the time you would think people would be pumping up the cops, right?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, would you all expect that?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_03]: Because you want to get more.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_03]: Guess what I saw this year.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_03]: I saw the opposite.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_03]: I saw people taking their raw cards and putting a Jane Daniels caboom for three hundred fifty dollars.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: I saw people going in there and putting them at five hundred dollars and creating these fake cops.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know what that does to the market?
- 31:36[SPEAKER_03]: It absolutely screws it.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: It absolutely screws it for them.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_03]: It screws them for the next guy and what they don't realize is, oh, I'm going to buy it and it's going to correct.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_03]: It creates this havoc.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_03]: That is what is in this industry and that's why I'm booming for the most part.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_03]: I'm thankful that we do it with a lot of our listeners that are in this because it's guys like you two that have common sense and a lot of other people in this that aren't out there dumping their stuff and screw in the next guy and to me it's just going on in this space that and it's just screwing the next guy.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's the truth.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_04]: How do you sell your car?
- 32:17[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to call you.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_04]: Don't burn.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: You're the big dump.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_04]: What would you?
- 32:23[SPEAKER_04]: What would you be?
- 32:24[SPEAKER_04]: What do you big dump?
- 32:25[SPEAKER_04]: Ten percent of the freaking cop freaking falsified to screw everybody else there.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_04]: That's
- 32:33[SPEAKER_03]: And then you're, and then these people sit there and go, ah, no, you know, it's, it's all, I mean to me, I don't know.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I'm about to, I'm feeling, boy, and on boys, I'm about to go on a rant.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_03]: Keep going.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_03]: Keep going.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_04]: Keep going.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_04]: The coffee is just good.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: This morning, I was really, I was garried with Gary Colby this morning.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, we got to get mad on the line.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: We got to record right now.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: This is gold.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: This gold man.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: This is good.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: He was just going off, man.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I think the point is it's like any industry, right?
- 33:07[SPEAKER_05]: Like, I'm in the insurance industry.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_05]: And when you know what people are doing in the industry and you understand how to set yourself up against what's happening and how it affects the consumer.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_05]: when people who have any common sense that go, I want to deal with that guy, because I don't want to be a part of it.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:25[SPEAKER_05]: Like, you start to delineate yourself from the rest of the market.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_05]: And when we bring the education that we bring, it's like, people coming up, you know, like you said, if you've got an orange of a guy or whatever, and people are like, low ball on you on that, it's like, do you know how hard we were to get this card?
- 33:41[SPEAKER_05]: And you think I'm going to, you know what I mean, dump it?
- 33:44[SPEAKER_05]: for like less than cop on a top ten prospect.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_05]: No, that's not worth.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_05]: It's not how this game works.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_05]: And again, you have to have the stones and the conviction to be able to stand in the gap and hold that card.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_05]: It's a different part of the hobby, man.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_05]: It's a different part of the hobby.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I love sharing, so I love being a storyteller.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm going to tell a quick story, OK?
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: In my business, I had started being the low guy on the totem pole, right?
- 34:09[SPEAKER_03]: Started with nothing.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, grew a business became the biggest in town and a guy came around and started a business.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, another business down the road.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_03]: And when he saw that my business was doing well, he couldn't beat us with our service.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: Couldn't beat us with the quality.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_03]: So what do you think he did?
- 34:25[SPEAKER_03]: He beat me with his price.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_03]: And he didn't beat me by my price by a little bit.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_03]: He cut his price in half.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_03]: And so what I did is I called full-fledged war on him.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_03]: And we did all we did was continue to stay with what we did and do what we did and provide his service.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_03]: We stuck with our price.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_03]: And at the end of the day, I grew a great business.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I grew a business that took care of its customers.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_03]: I grew a business that had value in a business.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_03]: And he still owns that business today in the struggling with that business.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: He got a lot of customers at first.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_03]: It was all good.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: But then he wasn't making any money because it was a really, really, really good idea to go out there and do that.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_03]: And so my point is my point in this whole long rant that I'm in right now about this is this industry that we're in, this niche that we're in called Bowman is insulating us from a lot of this for the most part.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: because there's a lot of this going on.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_03]: We don't get me wrong.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_03]: We're not a hundred percent exempt from it because it does go on, but I just wanted people that listen to understand that like it's to me, which we should be all thankful that we're in what we're in because this is the best part of the hobby in my opinion.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, any more thoughts on that girl?
- 35:31[SPEAKER_05]: Nope.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_03]: I'm good to be done.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: We will have a follow up episode on this, a full reveal of what I'm talking about eventually.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: And it's good.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_05]: Yep, so one thing that I wanted to share super cool story and then I've got a question for you guys to kind of spark us into the back end of the show.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_05]: So I was at a table and I saw somebody kind of shaking this guy's hand across the table and I looked or whatever and I looked at the dealer and I knew the dealer and I was like, who is that?
- 36:00[SPEAKER_05]: And he looked at me and he said blah blah.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_05]: And I looked and I was like, oh my gosh, his bubble Watson.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_05]: And I was standing right with him and he was with his son.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_05]: They're playing this week in Chicago and bubble Watson.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_05]: was walking around the national with his son and buying sports.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_05]: And he had a pin in his back pocket.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_05]: and he was signing off balls, he was signing stuff.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_05]: And it hit me on two levels.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_05]: Number one, Bubba Watson is one of the coolest athlete celebrities that I've ever run into in public like that, because he was so chill.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_05]: There was no pretense, there's no like, hey, get out of my way.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, what's up, man?
- 36:34[SPEAKER_05]: And I stood beside him and I said, hey, Bubba, I said, man, I can't run into you and not speak to you.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_05]: I just wanted to be this my son.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I'll see you soon.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_05]: He was so cool, is that what do you guys into?
- 36:44[SPEAKER_05]: Like, I mean, it's just like a really genuine D. I mean, and this is the two down's math.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_05]: The massive athlete in the space is here with his son.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, the hobby, the state of the hobby right now.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going on there.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_05]: So much to continue to do what we do because when smart people get into space, I feel like that they're going to the same area.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_05]: You know, and it feels it feels super super strong.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_05]: The where we are.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_05]: So that was just a swimming in the wind together.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_05]: It was super, super cool.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_05]: I have to see him and I actually message him on Instagram.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, Hey, Baba.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_05]: You're not this, Baba, Baba Watson.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_05]: We need to get Baba on the sport card.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_05]: See you.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I did a little.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_02]: I did a respond.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: Not yet, but I still holding out hope.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, hey, Baba, you know, you never know, man.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_05]: You never know.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so let's that we talked about we brought the topic of a second to go.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_03]: How do you guys feel now?
- 37:40[SPEAKER_03]: Nationals over.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: We all, we were all pumped up going in.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: We're all pumped up going out.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: Where do card values go from here?
- 37:49[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, because I feel like we're I talked to talk to bring about this earlier today.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_03]: We're in August.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_03]: It's probably the most unexciting time of the baseball season, right?
- 37:57[SPEAKER_03]: Let's be honest.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of the dog days of the summer for baseball.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: These guys have been playing a lot of games.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_03]: We're not in the playoff push yet.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's not September.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's kind of got the buzz of the national, but that buzz is going to wear off.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_03]: Now they're back home.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_03]: Where do baseball cards have been so resilient?
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: all year.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's in where do we go from here?
- 38:19[SPEAKER_03]: Where does this market go into the fall?
- 38:22[SPEAKER_03]: Where does it go into the winter?
- 38:23[SPEAKER_03]: Is it is last year exactly the story we see again?
- 38:27[SPEAKER_03]: Is it this continuous increase and then level out as we get into the winter?
- 38:33[SPEAKER_03]: And it just got a flat lines like we talked about last year where we never went down and we stay at zero to two percent increasing and then February March a bomb drops.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_03]: What do you feel we are at on this industry right now?
- 38:45[SPEAKER_05]: So I think that there is a lot, uh, there's a lot of hype being infused into the hobby right now and that does make me nervous because I come from my first career out of college was raw private community land sales in Florida.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_05]: We were selling pre-development.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_05]: We were full of Florida.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_05]: back in Palm Beach back in two thousand three two thousand four and we had a sales release in two thousand and four we did three hundred seven five million dollars in sale for one day and we sold out this entire community and
- 39:20[SPEAKER_05]: And hindsight saw that so much of that was manufactured hype.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_05]: And what ended up happening is the capital couldn't sustain itself in users.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_05]: We're not moving into the communities.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_05]: And those properties literally went to a quarter of their value.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_05]: Now, twenty years later, the neighborhoods come back the way on the people were moving back in.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_05]: So why do I tell that story?
- 39:41[SPEAKER_05]: There are parts of this hobby that I feel very dangerous about some of the values attached to.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_05]: But when you talk about rare, low-numbered low-population cards that are in that kind of land, I feel very secure about the values of those assets.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_05]: So it's like there's two sets that are emerging here.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_05]: And one class is predicated on thumb and foot.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_05]: and the other is actual tangible, long-valued assets.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_05]: And so that's why handheld is moving the majority of our assets into that type.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_05]: So, Karen, where do you feel about the value of the hobbies, off-season baseball, where are you on this?
- 40:28[SPEAKER_05]: This is going in our calculation later than in the Christmas stuff.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I'm good.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think the market's been so hot that it has to cool down.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's got to level out at some point.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: Regardless from what happens here, I do think in February, March.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's off to the races once again.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think my portfolio from a prospect standpoint, it's mostly all increased in values.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: While the market's still hot, I'm going to move what I can, but make sure I keep the important pieces that I want to hold into February and March.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: Because most of the stuff that I was buying all this year, it was a buy until at earliest from the most part April.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_02]: or March of this year.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: It was a year plus old since I've been buying from last off season.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to stick to that, but move well like hand so I can kind of cost average everything out and be into those bigger cards for free or I basically had nothing.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: So that's my goal, but I don't see, I do see it leveling out of pitch just like it normally does during the off season, but I think it's off the races come February March again.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm looking right now.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_03]: What do you guys think on card letter right now, the baseball index?
- 41:35[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think we're up in the last year as a market?
- 41:38[SPEAKER_03]: Last year as a whole.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_03]: Be up for baseball cards.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: Just baseball.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_03]: I would guess.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_04]: Eighteen percent.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say, seventeen percent, but now I'm going to change it.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say, twenty three percent.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: Eight point.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_02]: Twenty twenty three percent.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_03]: And so when you look at that, though, and then you go over here and you look at the, now I want to see what the,
- 42:02[SPEAKER_03]: Bowman, one hundred is a new one that they've created.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_03]: The Bowman, one hundred baseball's up eight.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_03]: The Bowman, one hundred now.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_03]: Have you all seen that before that index?
- 42:11[SPEAKER_03]: I've never seen that for today.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: Bowman, one hundred is up.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: Eighteen point three.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_03]: That's got to be out performing baseball.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: So it's up ten percent over baseball.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_03]: Bowman is currently
- 42:21[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I think that's my point is when you look at asset classes and stuff and you start to think that the like Bowman is the elite asset class like it's so funny man like I live by the coast right and and like by the ocean.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I don't live on the ocean, but I live a few miles away from the ocean and real estate values here are so, so strong because so many people want to have property land near the coast.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_05]: and you're kind of insulated because you are in a limited asset class of ocean front property.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, current, you're now staying a renting a place in the ocean.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_05]: Like it's just, that's the nature of real estate, right?
- 42:58[SPEAKER_05]: It's just ocean front property is some, so bone to me, it's like the ocean front property of the sports car hobby.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_05]: They're not making any more of it.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_05]: This is where it is.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_05]: Like, go ahead and get into it early.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_05]: People go, oh, back in the thing, if I could about this, well, listen, get in now.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_05]: Like that knee is the mindset that I take into why it's a great opportunity within the hobby and and Bubba's.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_05]: You just said it's already outperforming rest of the hobby.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_03]: So the mid end, okay, this is intriguing.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't see anything red right now.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: This is all green.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_03]: The mid end right now of the hobby is a fourteen percent in the last year.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: High end.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_03]: is a fifteen point seven, okay?
- 43:39[SPEAKER_03]: The only red, the only red that I am seeing in the last year that relates to anything we would be talking about is the low-end market is down point six percent, okay?
- 43:53[SPEAKER_03]: And I think the reason that that is is we talked about sticker orders.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked about the dump.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked about what happens.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: There's so much stuff on, and I don't know what they considered low end, but I would assume anything under a couple hundred dollars under a hundred dollars, maybe?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I was going to ask, which considered low end.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_03]: I would assume under a hundred dollars.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_03]: And when you walk that floor, a stuffed propiles of it.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_03]: There's so much, when you open this box, which I had this box right here on to me, there's so much stuff in here that's under a hundred dollars, just it's just chalk full of it.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_03]: And so when we talk about Bowman again, that's what's so cool about the serial Bowman, for ninety-nine.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_03]: It's a sweet spot.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you want to be, you don't want to be in the ultra-low end?
- 44:35[SPEAKER_03]: Go to Bowman for ninety-nine if you believe in guy.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_03]: Get a for ninety-nine out of.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_03]: Go and get yourself a blue one-fifty.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_03]: Go and get your, get these things that are going to hold up over time.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: But it, to me, just to answer the question from my standpoint as far as the market goes.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_03]: And my own Mike, I think about this.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_03]: I probably think about this more than I think of anything.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_03]: is where's the market go?
- 44:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's so much buzz around Bowman right now.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_03]: I think Bowman will continue, especially as the new releases are coming.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_03]: I think we'll see a little bit of common choppiness maybe in the next couple weeks.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_03]: When the new release comes out, you're going to see a boom.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to see another boom around that release.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to see people getting excited about it all over again.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_03]: And then right about the time that that started to dip down, everybody started to think about buying again, getting ready for February and March.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: My prediction is I don't think we're going to see the media order crater that we used to see.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_03]: You's fifteen percent down, eighteen percent up.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I think those days are done for the immediate right now.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_03]: I my gut tells me that baseball will stand fairly flat.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get a little bump around September.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_03]: Then I think we'll level out and then I think we hit January.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_03]: You hit January and February.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's to the races.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_03]: That's my that's my prediction.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_03]: If I was a meteorologist for sports cars, I'm saying the storms coming.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_03]: He's a rain maker, baby.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_03]: He's a rain maker.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_03]: You know who a meteorologist is, Spencer Jones.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_05]: It's BAMs make it rain.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_05]: I saw something a day.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_05]: It was literally a post on accident said the most polarizing athlete in baseball.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_04]: Spencer Jones really that serious.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_04]: It was certainly some height.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, what I know this is not a football show.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_03]: I know it's baseball related, but a lot of our people that listen to show do other stuff other than just baseball.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_03]: So I am curious because I'm not the only one that's noticed this now does football.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_03]: Catch it's groove this year.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_03]: Baseball has taken the number one spot.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_03]: It has done it.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_03]: It is official baseball was getting no football was getting all the love.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_03]: The show showed me signs that maybe football was because a lot of people were talking about football.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_03]: So my question is from your all's perspective, no current, you don't fall this a lot, but you're a football fan too.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_03]: Are you starting to get excited about football at all?
- 46:58[SPEAKER_03]: Are you all starting to think about football?
- 47:00[SPEAKER_03]: Is that entering your head space at all?
- 47:02[SPEAKER_03]: Or are you all still a hundred percent baseball right now in your head?
- 47:04[SPEAKER_03]: I'm all baseball still.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm all baseball still.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: A little mass in the background.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in a condition that he's going like this.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, from a personal standpoint, like it's all days ball for me.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm just fan night.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: nothing to be excited about whatsoever.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: So, that's a God's honest truth.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_02]: So, I'm baseball until playoffs, that's playoffs are done.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's baseball is known.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_05]: I think, I think, I do think that football is going to see a surge when the season starts.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_05]: But I think it's going to get, we can get flat really quick.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_05]: And the reason why is there's not a lot of hype with this year's rookie class.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_05]: Like, this year's rookie class is kind of full.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 47:46[SPEAKER_05]: So I think you're going to see the likes of Josh Allen and Mahomes and those kind of guys.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_05]: Hentic, Nate, but last year's rookie class was really strong this year.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_05]: So I think that's going to contribute to a bit of a slower downturn in the football game.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_05]: And I think when people start to see the kind of money that is being made in the baseball market, it's going to cause people to want to get into something that has a little bit more stability.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_05]: So I definitely think that the football season in my opinion actually helps the the Bowman market some.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: So another thing that's coming, and I know it's not what it used to be.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_03]: Call up September call ups aren't exactly the same.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_03]: They've only they increased it.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_03]: Now it's only twenty six to twenty eight roster spots, but still there's going to be for a lot of these teams, even teams like the Braves.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_03]: For example, a guy that had no value at all, Justin Waldrup.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_03]: hadn't had a chance, right?
- 48:37[SPEAKER_03]: He sucked last year for the braze.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_03]: They drafted him.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if y'all saw this came in the other day at the Bristol game.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_03]: By the way, that's something we need to talk about the Bristol game.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_03]: That was phenomenal.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_03]: Did y'all see that?
- 48:47[SPEAKER_03]: Did y'all get to just see that inside the racetrack?
- 48:49[SPEAKER_03]: That was freaking awesome.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_03]: Anybody that didn't get to see that.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_03]: Go back and watch that on YouTube.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_03]: Go back, watch the clips, even the replay.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_03]: That racetrack and having those giant, enormous seats going all the way up.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_03]: That was one incredible feat that they were able to put that inside of it.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_03]: They literally were driving like cars around with mascots around out on the racetrack.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it was a cool experience.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_03]: But my question you all too is like, I'm getting excited to see are any of these guys that we've been holding?
- 49:17[SPEAKER_04]: Are they going to get a shot?
- 49:18[SPEAKER_03]: Is Besayo going to get a shot?
- 49:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know, are some of these guys going to get any kind of shot before next spring?
- 49:24[SPEAKER_03]: Any predictions on that front from you three?
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think we see, um, I think we see JJ weather hold up in two weeks.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's my opinion.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's going to be coming up before before many of these predictions actually.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: Could we just talk about one thing?
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: Could you just talk about what a crazy man AJ Preller is?
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what kind of psycho is he?
- 49:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I used to respect the aggressiveness, right?
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: Now I think he's just freaking dumb.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think it's just, I think it's, he's an animal.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's, it's all about what, what if, like,
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: Have you won?
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_02]: He's never won with what he's doing.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_02]: And part of it, like part of it, I respect for sticking to true to his strategy.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_02]: But when is it going to end?
- 50:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, look at the list of guys he's given up.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he gave up James Wood for Juan Soto as a rental.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what are you doing, dude?
- 50:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like, did you not learn anything?
- 50:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's absolutely, it boggles my mind.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: It boggles my mind how he still has a job.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_03]: I don't really, it really is, it wasn't a, when somebody just, when you tack, I think I remember which one he all texted me and said, Leo just got traded, I'm like, come on.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: When I looked at it and said he's going to the A's, he's going to the A's.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: Well, suddenly, suddenly the pirates and the A's watch out.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they've been the laughing stock of Major League Baseball for a long time.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_03]: If I was looking for a new team to cheer for, it would be the pirates or the A's coming up.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the A's are freaking loaded, dude.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, if they don't trade this all the way, if they ever get to let it materialize in the next four to five years, they are loaded.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, loaded.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_03]: So are the pirates.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, look, I'll eat my, I'll eat my words.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_02]: If the podgers actually go out and win, right?
- 51:12[SPEAKER_02]: It worked then, right?
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: Age your prelears of genius.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_02]: It finally worked out.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_02]: But the chances of that happening are so unlikely when you've done it and you've done this over and over and over, like, I'm sorry.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to lose your, like, it's some point you got to cut ties, like if this doesn't work out, like you're giving up the farm, man.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_02]: He's giving up the farm.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's wild.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you just don't give up.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_03]: You don't give up players like that.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_03]: Not for what they got.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they could have went and got a, they could have went and got a number of rental relief pitchers out there on that market.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Mason Miller is a phenomenal pitcher.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_03]: Don't get me wrong.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_03]: But when you got a one guy for one inning, one inning in a game, you can't tell me that the price they just paid for Leo was even close to worth it.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_02]: Look, I mean, that's the way I felt when the match traded for Edwin Diaz, right?
- 52:01[SPEAKER_02]: And they gave up Jared Kelnick and turned out that the current turned out the match won that trade, right?
- 52:06[SPEAKER_02]: So like, maybe it's the same thing.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: But like, I just don't know how you give up talent like that for you, you said it like for like you're not one piece away.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, you're just not one piece away.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying this has, like, a bitter prospect.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, I own zero leative records.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: Zero, like, absolutely zero.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not saying this, you know, as a bitter guy who's holding his cards here, that's worried about the market going down.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's not the case.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's just boggles my mind.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_03]: Where does this market go?
- 52:36[SPEAKER_03]: How do y'all feel about its market?
- 52:38[SPEAKER_03]: Do you feel any different about him being in Oakland compared to San Diego?
- 52:42[SPEAKER_03]: I thought I would feel, I actually think it's better.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_02]: I gotta be honest with you.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's gonna be, I think it's gonna be a better, I think it's gonna be better for him.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Azer has now solidified themselves as this great farm system.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's developed good, young talent between Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz and things are looking up for them.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I think from a market standpoint, I think, I mean assuming he's got to perform,
- 53:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it, I don't think it as a negative, like the way we probably used to with the A's.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 53:15[SPEAKER_02]: He goes to Miami, different story, but I don't think the A's have that same perception that they used to have.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't, I don't see any sort of like downfall from a market standpoint assuming that he continues to perform.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think about it?
- 53:30[SPEAKER_05]: I think he's got to figure out like, to me, the Leo hype,
- 53:36[SPEAKER_05]: is suspended until he figures out that he can really play in the share.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_05]: I think his height was really strong early when he came down and did what he did in the age.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_05]: I think now he's going to be kind of leveled off until he gets a shot to do something pretty crazy.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_05]: But you've got, you know, what's his name?
- 53:56[SPEAKER_05]: It's workshop already.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_05]: Check out all star level short stuff.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_05]: this year.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_05]: So I mean, he's going to do it from second base.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I mean?
- 54:05[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I feel like I feel like the window of when a prospect pops like it's either early.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_05]: Are you have to get to the through the sophomore slump and then back up the mountain?
- 54:19[SPEAKER_05]: I've completely changed my get like we talked about this couple weeks ago with polling call up is not what it used to be like it is the early hype and then there is this flat volatile season until they get into the space and into the show and start doing
- 54:36[SPEAKER_05]: James Wood, Nick Kurtz, you know, the main Jacob Wiltson type stuff.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_05]: And then they're going to see this meteoric rise.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_05]: But then it's so hard to sustain that.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_05]: And you're going to say, so you have to either time this really early, or you have to have the stunts to get it to the other side of their performance in the bigs.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_05]: So I think Leo right now, I'm not buying him.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_05]: I'm actually probably selling.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_05]: We have one left.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_05]: I would sell it off.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_05]: But I do think if he gets in the show, man, and he any pops is going to be big.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's August the fourth right now.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_03]: My prediction is.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_03]: My prediction is a year from now.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_03]: His cards will be down thirty five percent from now.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_03]: And in at that point, I'm potentially a buyer again.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's just what we're saying.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_03]: He's kind of like a felon in Celestin, you know, somebody like that.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked about him before on the show, you know, that these guys that have tremendous ability that get into the spotlight and it just really depends how if the athletics fast track him.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_03]: If they knit curts him and they get him up there quick and he shines obviously he can explode.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't think they're going to rush them because they don't need to right now, which Jacob Wilson already there.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_03]: I would think Leo's probably at least a year and a half away from getting up.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_03]: And if that being said, that's a lot of time to sit there.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I'll say this right now and I hate him giving up a player that I'm on, but that gives me a day or two before this show goes live to kind of buy as much as I can.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: But Walker Jenkins is one of those guys.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_03]: Walker Jenkins was a guy that was all the rage and he fell out of favor really, really quick.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_03]: Walker Jenkins is a hell of a wall player.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_04]: Let him help him.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_04]: Look at what he's up when he's up beast.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_04]: The pattern is come.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_03]: He's starting to hit.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_03]: He is a guy that we should be buying right now.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_03]: and people are smart.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_03]: They'll they'll find their way to him again, but he's undervalued for what he could be.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_03]: And to me, again, we've talked about it all the time.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_03]: Find the opportunities and not some of the listeners right now.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_03]: You're probably cussing us as we're talking about Leo going, what y'all are out?
- 56:45[SPEAKER_03]: You haven't been talking about Leo.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_03]: This game can change that quick.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_03]: And you've got to be moving with this game.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_03]: I've lost the most money in this game, like I said earlier, if I don't, the second that I lost conviction and I somewhere along the line with Leo probably about, I don't know, maybe ninety days ago, I started to get this field.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_03]: It was going to take a long time for that kid to get to the show.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_03]: And that was when I knew, okay, I got to start changing the approach.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_03]: I could be holding the bag here.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_05]: So we are in the area of our plus on the show.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_05]: There's a lot of things that are going on right now.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_05]: We just want to let you guys know, what do you want to hear from us about?
- 57:25[SPEAKER_05]: You guys definitely reach out to us and let us know what you guys want to hear and where you want us to go.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_05]: We've got a lot of content coming forward.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to tell you right now what I want to see at the twenty twenty six national is I want to be a sports card CEO booth.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_05]: Like I want to see it.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_05]: I'm just telling you.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_05]: I want to see it.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_05]: I want to be there.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_05]: I want to interview some athletes.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_05]: I want to do it.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_02]: Manning that place because I can't sit still for that long.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_04]: What does have you have like a mic on walking around the place?
- 57:50[SPEAKER_04]: Then we can have we can have a few of the boys kind of hang out and just, you know, be the sideline reporter.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_02]: Have a little show case.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of feeling a later in the week episode.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about you guys, but I'm kind of feeling one.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, let's do it.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm down for it.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_03]: I think we got a lot to talk about boys because and we'll wrap up with this like I love when we get in these moments like right now where I used to hate it and I would come on the show and go there's no inventory.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_03]: This is the right time to have this is my final thought of the show for today.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_03]: when there's no inventory, we're protected right now.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_03]: And this is a good time to be protected.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_03]: There's just not a lot there.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's what we're going to see in the times ahead.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_03]: And this is going to be a dog fight to find the good stuff though.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_03]: Because when the good stuff comes up, you got to get on it quick because there's just not a lot out there.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so there's a lot of scrap in.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of stuff going on out there right now to find guards.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_03]: But be smart right now.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_03]: This is a really, really good time to kind of adjust the playbook when there's not a lot of inventory on the market.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_03]: You're one card that goes on the market might be the only dog out there.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_03]: So that's the the only dog out there on the shows.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_03]: That's one thing to think about looking at the inventory this there.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_03]: If you've got the blue P.A.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_03]: say PSA ten and you got the only one might be a good time to list it if you want to get out of that player.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_03]: So that's my final thought of the day.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_02]: I apologize for earlier guys when I said that you won't get any high end red prospects.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it will let you get one or two.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_02]: Now, look, the market's strong.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_02]: And, um, yeah, we red cross bags.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, you can have one or two.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_02]: No, this, this was a great post national recap of if maybe, maybe we'll get another one out there.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of other.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_05]: thoughts to discuss this has been the first late night episode of the sports card seat and we are grateful that you guys listen to us guys thank you guys for always making time for our listeners to be able to do this love seeing you guys last week what a great national
- 59:52[SPEAKER_05]: The hobby is in a wild space right now.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_05]: Guys, make sure you're doing your homework.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_05]: Continue to use this show as an asset for you as you build your collection.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_05]: As you make your strategy as you become your own sports car to see you.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_05]: That's what this was all about later later in the week.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe a bonus episode.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_05]: Be ready double up baby.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_05]: Say an hour face
