Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: What's going on everyone? Emily Badi here you are listening
- 0:24Speaker 1: to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. It's so good to
- 0:28Speaker 1: have you listening. It's also been really invigorating the launch
- 0:32Speaker 1: of this new season. It feels like there's an exciting
- 0:35Speaker 1: momentum right now. I think it comes hand in hand
- 0:37Speaker 1: with summer tailing off Fall, my favorite season on the
- 0:41Speaker 1: Horizon Fall marathon season. You know me, I love a marathon.
- 0:46Speaker 1: They are coming, We're doing all the things, and I'm
- 0:49Speaker 1: really amped because by the time that this episode hits
- 0:52Speaker 1: the feed, I'm going to be in Oregon gearing up
- 0:55Speaker 1: to run my first ever Hood to Coast, which I
- 0:58Speaker 1: talked about last week on the show. It's a relay
- 1:00Speaker 1: that goes from Mount Hood to the Coast in Oregon,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and I could not be more excited. This week for
- 1:07Speaker 1: the show, I want to talk about feeling overwhelmed now
- 1:11Speaker 1: after any big thing. I feel like classically people talk
- 1:14Speaker 1: about the post wedding blues on the show, I've talked
- 1:17Speaker 1: about the post marathon blues very different than a wedding.
- 1:21Speaker 1: After any big thing, it's inevitable that there's going to
- 1:24Speaker 1: be some sort of a come down, and I think
- 1:26Speaker 1: that for the most part in the last few years,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I've avoided this come down because I am a thing stacker.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I love to know exactly what's going to be happening next,
- 1:38Speaker 1: what I'm going to be working on next, before the
- 1:42Speaker 1: current project is already over with. That said, even in
- 1:47Speaker 1: this one week period that I had home after getting
- 1:51Speaker 1: home from Paris, I felt not so much the post
- 1:55Speaker 1: big thing blues come down, but more so purely overwhelmed,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and not because I feel like there's too much on me.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I actually feel like my workload right now is very doable,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but it's the sense of almost paralysis in that I
- 2:13Speaker 1: want to do more things, but I it feels like
- 2:17Speaker 1: a lot now. What I can do better than explain
- 2:19Speaker 1: this overwhelmed feeling that I have is tell you what
- 2:22Speaker 1: I do when I feel this way. So my priority
- 2:25Speaker 1: this week has been taking time to feel good being
- 2:29Speaker 1: home in the time that I'm home. So what that
- 2:32Speaker 1: means for me is not making plans that go late
- 2:35Speaker 1: into the night. It means getting to bed early, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: by early I mean literally before nine to fifteen PM.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It means prioritizing sleep and making sure that I can
- 2:45Speaker 1: make the accommodation to get to bed by nine to
- 2:48Speaker 1: fifteen pm. It means taking walks after dinner. It means
- 2:52Speaker 1: taking the time to journal and reflect, It means moving
- 2:56Speaker 1: my body. It's all of these different things that I
- 2:58Speaker 1: do to fill up my own cup so that I
- 3:01Speaker 1: know that not only can I pour back into that cup,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but then pour out to others. What happens when you
- 3:08Speaker 1: don't prioritize yourself when you are lingering in this feeling
- 3:12Speaker 1: of overwhelm, is that it just keeps building, and sooner
- 3:15Speaker 1: or later it will become too much that straw will
- 3:19Speaker 1: quote unquote break the camel's back. And So when I'm
- 3:23Speaker 1: feeling the sense of overwhelm, when I'm feeling like there's
- 3:25Speaker 1: a lot happening, or maybe I'm incapable of proceeding because
- 3:29Speaker 1: there's just this like cloud over me, I ask myself
- 3:34Speaker 1: what is within my control to do right now? What
- 3:37Speaker 1: is within my power when things feel bigger than me?
- 3:41Speaker 1: And there are two really powerful questions. So my question
- 3:44Speaker 1: for you this week, my listener prompt, is when you
- 3:49Speaker 1: feel overwhelmed, what's one small thing that you can do
- 3:53Speaker 1: for yourself? And perhaps even think about this a little
- 3:56Speaker 1: bit differently, What is one hurdle you are facing right
- 3:59Speaker 1: now now that feels bigger than you. And what is
- 4:02Speaker 1: one small action step that is within your control to
- 4:07Speaker 1: act on right now. I'm excited actually, because the listener
- 4:12Speaker 1: questions via email seem to be taking off. Y' all
- 4:15Speaker 1: love this idea, and I wish you told me sooner
- 4:17Speaker 1: that you didn't want to hear your voice on the show.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'm not mad at it. In fact, I bet a
- 4:21Speaker 1: lot of you have really great podcast voices. But I'm
- 4:24Speaker 1: going to dig into my pile of listener questions right
- 4:27Speaker 1: now and answer one from Jenny. Jenny asks, I've been
- 4:31Speaker 1: listening to you for years, girl, thank you for everything
- 4:34Speaker 1: you put out. I finally took the leap and started
- 4:37Speaker 1: creating content and writing articles. So my question is this,
- 4:40Speaker 1: if you could talk to yourself when you first started out,
- 4:42Speaker 1: particularly in writing content and being seen, what advice would
- 4:46Speaker 1: you give her? Jenny. My biggest piece of advice for
- 4:49Speaker 1: anyone who wants to start writing, whether it's just personally
- 4:53Speaker 1: or for an editorial outlet, if you want to create
- 4:55Speaker 1: content that you want others to consume, is truly be
- 4:59Speaker 1: your self. I can't tell you how many people come
- 5:02Speaker 1: to me and they say something like I want to
- 5:04Speaker 1: start a podcast, but there are so many podcasts, And
- 5:07Speaker 1: my answer to that is always, but there's only one you. Yes,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you can draw inspiration from other individuals. That's totally fine.
- 5:15Speaker 1: In fact, it's very important to the creative process. But
- 5:18Speaker 1: when it comes down to the thing that you are making,
- 5:22Speaker 1: the words you are writing, the photos you're taking, the
- 5:24Speaker 1: videos you're making, whatever it might be, know that it
- 5:28Speaker 1: has to start with you. So in order to be
- 5:31Speaker 1: authentic to who it is you are creating content requires
- 5:35Speaker 1: getting to know yourself even better. Who is it that
- 5:38Speaker 1: you are, what's important to you? What are your values?
- 5:41Speaker 1: What is it that is a priority to you. Being
- 5:44Speaker 1: able to answer these questions will make a world of
- 5:47Speaker 1: difference when it comes to whatever it is that you
- 5:50Speaker 1: are creating, outputting, et cetera. Get to know yourself, and
- 5:55Speaker 1: not just in the scheme of creating content, which, of course,
- 5:58Speaker 1: as I said, it's so valuable, but it's just valuable
- 6:01Speaker 1: in life. You are the person that you spend the
- 6:04Speaker 1: most time within any given day. You're the person that
- 6:06Speaker 1: you talk to the most in any given day. So
- 6:09Speaker 1: you owe it to yourself to invest in yourself and
- 6:12Speaker 1: the rest well that's really just logistics. Make sure you
- 6:17Speaker 1: are following over on social at Hurdle Podcasts. I'm over
- 6:20Speaker 1: at Emily a Body as well, and like I said,
- 6:23Speaker 1: loving the listener questions submission, so keep them coming. Send
- 6:27Speaker 1: me your thoughts, your concerns. Love note over to hello
- 6:31Speaker 1: at hurdle dot us another hurdle conquered. Catch you guys
