- 0:15Hello everybody. Dando here for the latest episode of four Fingered discat Exstra.
- 0:19Thank you so much for joining me here this week. Today. I am
- 0:21very excited because I've got a very out of left field guest. But he's
- 0:24a man who I've been wanting to talk to you for quite some time now.
- 0:28He is mister Jack Nischler, and he may have sent his name on
- 0:30our page because we are constantly crediting him because he's putting out some of the
- 0:33best Simpsons memes going around at the moment. He's just an absolute juggnau in
- 0:37the Simpsons ship posting world. He has his group through House Simpsons Memes Supergroup.
- 0:41Make sure you check out that group and join it. You can find
- 0:43a link for that in the description of this pod. But basically, I
- 0:46just wanted to talk about, you know, just his thoughts on the Simpsons
- 0:49ship posting community in general. We cover his creative process for creating his Simpsons
- 0:53memes. We also does bando a bet our love of the show, and
- 0:55we talk about his earliest memories of watching the Simpsons, you know, and
- 0:58he actually talks about a particul a memory that I couldn't get the smile off
- 1:02my face because it's everything we did, you know, growing up in Australia.
- 1:04It's a memory that I know every Australian listener is just going to absolutely
- 1:07relate to and adore. So like I said, it's an absolute champion Jack.
- 1:11Check out his group Thrillouse Simpsons Meme Supergroup and make sure you support him.
- 1:14And also, speaking of support, if you love everything we do here
- 1:17at Fourth Finger Discount, it would be amazing if you could support us on
- 1:19Patreon as well. For as little it's just a single dollar we do goes
- 1:23a long way to helping keeping the lights on here at the Fourth Finger Discount
- 1:26Network. Some of you may or may not be aware. I quit my
- 1:27job last year to pursue this Simpsons podcast network. But we don't just do
- 1:30Simpsons here. We cover sign Pope. We were talking Signfeld speaking of the
- 1:34heel tales of Futurama, the one about friends going down to South Park and
- 1:37so much more so. If you love yourself on nostalgia, check out our
- 1:40podcast network. I would really appreciate that. But for now, enough spreaking.
- 1:42I think it's time we sit back and enjoy my conversation with the One
- 1:46the Only Mister Jack Knishler. It feels like, you know, Simpsons ship
- 1:56posting has been going for years now, right, but you're just like this
- 1:59name just taking the world by storm and the shit posting world. Like,
- 2:01how made this happen? Man? I actually don't know, Like when I
- 2:07first started as well, there's no way that I would have envisioned that I've
- 2:10without sounding like kind of arrogant, like developed a somewhat reputation in that kind
- 2:15of community. Yeah, because really it was just a hobby to start with,
- 2:19and then it kind of morphed into its own thing. Did you so
- 2:22you were making memes in Simpsons shit posting the main group and then you thought,
- 2:24fuck, wait a minute, I'm actually getting a lot of traction.
- 2:27I should make my own group. Or because did you start the thrill House
- 2:29one yourself? Yeah, so myself, Corona Martin and Ruby's and Eddie formulated
- 2:35thrill House. But honestly, when I first started it kind of it started
- 2:38from the covid era has something to do while lockdown was going on. We
- 2:44all had to find something to do, didn't we. Oh? Man,
- 2:46it was crazy and like, honestly, when I look back, I'm like
- 2:50I was posting the most generic shit, Like it would just be I'd share
- 2:53an image of something that I saw and I'd posted in like obscure Simpson's characters
- 2:58or maybe Rancher Overlaxo. And it wasn't really a meme. It was just
- 3:01like, you know, someone dressed up as a Simpsons character and I'd share
- 3:05that Simpsons related content. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And then it just
- 3:08morphed into its own little thing, and I started developing kind of like I
- 3:13guess a nick a niche of where I'd have like this black label text and
- 3:17I would essentially just insert myself as a character. And then before I knew
- 3:23it, man, I just took off. And then I started posting in
- 3:27Compu Global. Yep, that was my main one. And then I developed
- 3:30a friendship with Karna and we got to talking and eventually formed Thrillhouse a few
- 3:36years later. But really from something that started, there's just something to quell
- 3:40the bottom of lockdown. It's kind of crazy what it turned into. It.
- 3:45Are you guys sort of like competition now for Comfort Global or not?
- 3:47Because you're both AUSSI based, do you see this competition? I was sort
- 3:50of like, you know, supposed to have each other out honestly, man,
- 3:53Like, it's kind of weird the politics that happened with like between the
- 3:59Simpsons group. This kind of crazy. This is the thing, right,
- 4:01I get so many I get so much shit, and I'm just I've just
- 4:04just accept it, right because you know, we'd take memes. I always
- 4:06try to give credit where I give where I can. But sometimes people a
- 4:10lot of the time, people to send us memes and I'm like, who
- 4:12made this? Like I don't know, and I'm like, fuck now,
- 4:14I'm going to go check the groups and try and find who made this,
- 4:15and sometimes I just can't find it. So I'll post up the meme and
- 4:18I'm like, if you know who made this, let me know. And
- 4:20man, people get angry when you don't give credit for a meme. Yeah,
- 4:25yeah, do you know what? They get angry? Ever, as
- 4:27well, if you've reposted a meme like Bill say this competition, you know,
- 4:30like the Harrison comment, Oh yeah, or repost, I'm like,
- 4:35look, everything's been done at this point. Okay, you're reposting an old
- 4:40Simpsons clip. You realize this, right, Like, it's already a repost.
- 4:43If you repost a meme like say you post a meme to one group,
- 4:46there's a whole audience in another group might not have seen it. So
- 4:50if you post it to another group and you know, there's a couple of
- 4:53people that have already been members of the other group and they see it and
- 4:57then they're like repost, I'm like, okay, it's a whole your audience,
- 5:00though, Yeah, what's kind of like, you know, I've talked
- 5:02to people who work on The Simpsons now and I'm in season thirty five,
- 5:05and they'll do a story and someone's like, you already did this in season
- 5:08seven. It's like it's fucking twenty years ago. No one remembers that anymore.
- 5:11We've done everything. Okay, it's all been done. It's like the
- 5:15Obscool Simpsons Characters page. I think it originally started to post obscure characters and
- 5:20it's been active for like three years or more maybe. So if someone posts
- 5:25something and it doesn't have an obscure character, someone's like, you know,
- 5:28in a smartest like, oh, nice obscure character. I'm like, look,
- 5:31after two weeks, they're done. Yeah, Like, we don't,
- 5:34there's no more to post. Did you make that obscure Simpsons? Oh?
- 5:39No? Actually, one of the other ad means of thrill house sheey I
- 5:43think is one of the original ones ruby Yeah, okay, cool, Yeah,
- 5:46I forget it on at some point as well. What's like, what's
- 5:48your process for making the meme? Like, now you're going to make sure
- 5:50you get the black the black square or the black red ting with defined well
- 5:55you always put certain things into your pictures to date. Yeah, yeah,
- 5:58that's the thing is like it's so such a basic format of how I make
- 6:01the meme. But with like the black label text, just on aesthetic alone,
- 6:06you can kind of tell that it's mine. That's and you sort of
- 6:10claim that, now, haven't you. Yeah, I'm not even like I'm
- 6:14claiming it. It's just like people know it if you see it, tell
- 6:17it's one of my memes. Sure, sure, but yeah, I mean
- 6:21there's really no process involved in it. Like they're pretty low effort. There's
- 6:26not a whole lot involved. And because you know, you've got the two
- 6:29crowds that enjoy kind of like your standard Simpson's mash up where it's two scenes
- 6:34blended together, and it's that kind of style of the meme, like hiw
- 6:39he edited one, whereas mine are just like a poor Man's meme where I
- 6:42just insert some kind of generic reference over a Simpson screenshot. It's almost like
- 6:46as a stand up routine, like you know when this happens in real life.
- 6:50That's what it is. Man Like I at the end of the day,
- 6:54the way that I post memes, it's about the human that I enjoy
- 6:58it. And I like that of self referential, not taking yourself too seriously,
- 7:02just taking a piece really And yeah, a lot of it's just relatable
- 7:05content, like you know, some like just like a workplace scenario or something
- 7:12that happened to work, and then you insert out into a meme and people
- 7:15can relate to that. And I find that that generates its own audience of
- 7:18like the relatability of some of the content, and some people enjoy it and
- 7:24some people don't. But that's like, I'm a human is subjective, right,
- 7:27So I appreciate the ones where it's like, you know, when I
- 7:30was a kid, so you always bust out the space Jam blanket and the
- 7:33Batman. I think the Batman Forever poster is it, Yeah, which is
- 7:36weird because I don't even really like that movie or much. I mean Nostage
- 7:42books. I was a kid, well, hell do you I'm thirty five?
- 7:44How do you? I'm so, I'm thirty three. We're about the
- 7:46same age. So, like I was a kid and that Batman movie came
- 7:48out, so like I was writing the target demo for that movie, so
- 7:51I have like a nostalgia for it. But everyone's like, you realize that
- 7:54movie shit out. I'm like, I know it's shit, but you know,
- 7:56I still liked it because I was a kid. It's my ship.
- 7:58Let me enjoy my shit. That's kind of like, you know when you
- 8:01talk to kids that watch the new Simpsons, and you know, people from
- 8:05like our age, like, oh, it's not as good as back in
- 8:07the day, Like, just let us enjoy the new episodes, please,
- 8:09because these are our episodes. It's the thing as well. I was only
- 8:11talking about the new Simpsons episodes the other day, and like it's not intended
- 8:18for us as the people that grew up with it. It's it's brought for
- 8:22a new audience. Well, I can't expect. It's kind of like a
- 8:24selfish mentality to have the idea that the Simpsons as they started should be catering
- 8:31to that original audience. So when they're inserting popcorn for if I'm like watching
- 8:35it now some of the pop culture references, I don't know what's going on,
- 8:39but it's the same thing as if a new audience was watching some of
- 8:43the throwback episodes that we grew up on. They're like, who the fuck's
- 8:45Bill Clinton? Exactly? But this is the thing. I was so ad
- 8:48the lit I don't know what who Lizzo is. I'm like, who right,
- 8:52I'm totally ad the loot now, but she was like on The Simpsons,
- 8:54I reckon about a month ago, what's your kind of like peak error
- 8:58for for me because I wasn't allowed to watch it till I was six,
- 9:03because I got banned from watching because I copied Maggie from treous I want and
- 9:05goup the knife out of the kitchen draw and my mum was like, that's
- 9:07it for the Simpsons. So for me, I have a nostalgia for like
- 9:11season five through maybe ten. I reckon maybe five and five through seven are
- 9:16like my favorite seasons. I think what about you? One for me is
- 9:20borderline unwatchable just because it's really fine its voice and the animation. Like I'm
- 9:26such a I need to dig the aesthetic, so like the animation style for
- 9:31me that I really love is kind of like three through to ten, where
- 9:35it's slightly imperfect, but it's not as refined as like the high definition that
- 9:39we have now. There's that one season where they've got the really big pupils.
- 9:43I think it's like season four. Yeah, yeah, it's kind of
- 9:46it's bizarre. Yeah yeah, But for me, I think, like aesthetically,
- 9:50my favorite season, I reckon it's probably like season like King Sid's Home
- 9:52at ear like season seven is. I think that's when they look at the
- 9:54season seven. Yeah. Yeah, I like season seven and season eight.
- 9:58I really like like the aesthetic of that animation. Yeah, and also like
- 10:03in terms of consistently good episodes, like that was a hell of a run
- 10:07that went through right, Like you can pretty much put on any episode and
- 10:11a Tobanger. Yeah. Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein were the showrunners at that
- 10:16point, and you know, Bill Oakley obviously did steam Hams and yeah,
- 10:20yeah, I feel like those two guys like they made the best episodes.
- 10:22They really like. That was Simpsons fans who somehow made their way into the
- 10:26Simpsons writing room and gave us the best episodes. Mm hmm. Yeah with
- 10:30you, so with your with your memes. So I'm just assuming you've got
- 10:33like a notepad of ideas and just when you find time you make the memes.
- 10:37Or is it just the case of you're doing your work and you're like,
- 10:39fuck, that's a good idea. You drop everything and you make the
- 10:41memes. Like how do you make the memes? You do it on a
- 10:43computer on your phone? What do you do? Man, I've got like
- 10:46notes in my phone. I can imagine there's just five hundred meme ideas that
- 10:52I put in there, and then I just categorized them into a priority of
- 10:56oh, this is probably a good one, so it's like top memes,
- 11:01and then I'll be like, man, there's times when I'm laying in bed
- 11:05trying to go to sleep and I've just got like ideas churning, and then
- 11:09I have to reach over to my phone and be, oh, I put
- 11:11that in and then I'll think about that the next day and then build on
- 11:13that. Yeah, And don't you love it when you pull your phone out?
- 11:16We can't do that as well with certain things. I feel like you're
- 11:18most creative when you're about to go to sleep, and I love it when
- 11:20you wake up next day and you're like, oh, man, I totally
- 11:22wuld have forgotten about that idea, but think I put it in my phone
- 11:24for sure, because I definitely haven't done it before. I've forgotten to put
- 11:28it in and it's just gone into the EGI yeah, and you know there's
- 11:31something then and you're like, what was it? Oh, it's weird,
- 11:33man, because with the memes as well, like sometimes I'll be like,
- 11:37this is going to be a banger and it's like, you know, moderate
- 11:41likes at best, and then there's like a throwaway one that I spent thirty
- 11:43seconds on and it's a thousand likes. So it's like there's really no gauge
- 11:48on what's going to go well or what gets picked up in the algorithm.
- 11:50Either that's the thing, it's the algorithm who they push it to. It's
- 11:54so fucking weird. Now the algorithm you've got to really you can't work it
- 11:58out anymore. And anything, I think it's just a lucky dip these days.
- 12:00Well, I used to feel like it was like time of day dependent
- 12:03as well, Like I would post it would be like because I used to
- 12:07have a thing because I've got a lot of OCD qualities, so there was
- 12:11a point where I was religious, Yeah, for sure, religiously posting once
- 12:16in the morning and once in the evening, so I do two a day,
- 12:20and I felt like that turned ten thirty time frame and then like you
- 12:24know, a four thirty five o'clock timeframe seemed to generate the most activity on
- 12:30the post. Whereas I have no idea if that's legit, It just it
- 12:33was what it was. I used to sort of have the mentality of when
- 12:37I was posting things up are most of our followers and at the time it
- 12:41was Australian. Now that sort of all around the world. It doesn't really
- 12:43make a difference. But I'm like, when are Australians knocking off work when
- 12:45they're going to be most likely to be on their phones. That's when I's
- 12:46sort of pick in my mind. So it was usually like seven thirty people
- 12:50just finished in and they've got their phones out fucking around watching TV or whatever,
- 12:52and I feel like seven thirtysu to be a good time for posting meanings.
- 12:56But now you just can't pick. It's just whatever. Yeah, especially
- 13:00like with the Australian group that I was posting in for a long time,
- 13:03that's easier to predict because it's primarily an Australian audience see yeah, yeah,
- 13:11whereas now with like Thriller House and even Bought Posting, it's worldwide. Like
- 13:15Bought Posting's got I think they just broke over three hundred thousand followers or so
- 13:20they're from just everywhere. Man. Yeah, so yeah, there's really no
- 13:24gauge on target audience. You just post when you post and see if it
- 13:28takes off. I find memes now that get the most reach organically, very
- 13:33very very rarely boost the post. Might be a link for one of our
- 13:35podcasts, that's the any thing. I'll never boost a meme. But I
- 13:39feel like the ones where you've got to click into it to see the full
- 13:41picture seem to get more organic reach because it thinks that people are engaging because
- 13:46they're clicking into the photo to see the full thing. It's like a three
- 13:48panel meme. They generally do better than one you can see the whole image
- 13:52without having to click into it to see the bottom, like the screenshot.
- 13:58That's interesting because I used to feel kind of converse to that, where if
- 14:01it was like a multipanel meme, because I've done I remember only a couple
- 14:05of times because they actually take a fair bit of effort. But I've done
- 14:09like super meta memes where it's like fifty plus panels and it's pretty much about
- 14:15the group itself and group members within that group, like personalities at like regular
- 14:20posters, and they take a shitler effort and they get a bit of traction.
- 14:26And then if it's like a four panel meme, I feel like people
- 14:30are less inclined to click on that as opposed to a single one or a
- 14:33double one where it requires no clicks, which is like it kind of highlights
- 14:37the laziness of just the average person. It's like, can't be fuck clicking
- 14:41on a panel to see how many are there. The best thing is,
- 14:46I think, is when you can see there's a third panel, Like people
- 14:50post memes, but like you have to actually say there's three panels, because
- 14:52they've made the positioned to see if you can see like the top bit of
- 14:56the third panel makes people go, well, what is that? What is
- 14:58that? And then they'll the curiosity gets the best of them. They're like,
- 15:01Okay, let's see the punchline. Yeah, but what was your first
- 15:07ship post? Can you remember? Oh man, probably something super whack in
- 15:11hindsight, like something real shitty. I actually don't remember what it was.
- 15:15It was nervous posting it, were you sort of like, oh, man,
- 15:16what if no one likes it? Nah? Not because I didn't even
- 15:20have an idea of how it worked. It was just like I didn't give
- 15:24a shit about how many likes it was going to generate. You just posted
- 15:26out of boredom. And then I know, for me personally, it became
- 15:31like you're chasing that dopamine of like the validation of people liking the post,
- 15:37especially the more popular they get, and if you're consistently getting a lot of
- 15:41likes on a post, it becomes addictive, man, it really does.
- 15:46You end up chasing that kind of fucking dopamine here, like, oh,
- 15:48let me get that high of people like my shit, people enjoying my content.
- 15:54But then at the same time, there's a fair bit of anxiety involved
- 15:58with it, which sounds ridiculous because they're just means yeah, but like some
- 16:03of them can be quite I guess contentious, and you get people just really
- 16:07get in in their feelings and letting you know exactly what they think about something,
- 16:14And I kind of feel like that's something to do with the anonymous nature
- 16:18of the Internet, where it allows people to speak in a way that they
- 16:22wouldn't speak if it was your and iron person. You kind of like that
- 16:26road rage mentality where if someone cuts them off in traffic, they're freaking the
- 16:30fuck out and they're this out and the third. But if someone stepped in
- 16:33front of them in line of the supermarket, they're not going to say shit.
- 16:34It's going to wish that they could have said something and then be like,
- 16:37dang, I should have said that. If someone steps out of the
- 16:40car, then they quickly turned the car around and drop the other direction.
- 16:41Yeah, exactly exactly. So it's it's it's very Yeah, it's weird.
- 16:47The audience you can get on certain means it's good. I'm gonna be very
- 16:51careful with the ones that I post because we try to keep it like we
- 16:53try to be like the You've got rock Bottom in all those other pages and
- 16:56they dropped the sea bomber light and we're I just like we try to be
- 17:00like the family friendly ish version of like as Simpson Ship posting, because it's
- 17:03essentially it's the podcast page, but we're posting memes. You try to keep
- 17:07it family friendly because we have a lot of sort of like connections with the
- 17:08actual show, and I'm like, they're not going to want to be associating
- 17:11with me if I'm putting memes up with the sea bomb or to bias memes
- 17:15mostly dropped the Sea Bomb and stuff like that. And I know, not
- 17:17that I'm against that kind of stuff, it's just we've got to keep our
- 17:19image a little bit more squeaky clean than those of like rock Bottom of those
- 17:22kind of things. Not on pals of all those guys that run those pages,
- 17:25because they're way more popular than we are. But yeah, I just
- 17:27I just found it very interesting that, you know, just how crazy ship
- 17:30postings has got to this point where people, I don't know, it's almost
- 17:33just become like a job for people. It's it's such a community now,
- 17:37isn't it. Yeah, I mean, and depending on the group, it
- 17:41can be such a fun vibe. It's like a virtual hanging. Because that's
- 17:45how I feel we've been able to cultivate. The whole idea with Thrillhouse was
- 17:49that we wanted to take essentially everything that we thought was wrong with other groups.
- 17:56Because there's pros and cons to eage group. What are they wrongs,
- 18:00do you think If you yes, I don't want to go for me like
- 18:03if I'm taking my own biases out of it if I look at it.
- 18:07Some groups get so political to where three out of four posts are politics based,
- 18:15and that's where you're run into the most contention with comments. We avoid
- 18:19politics like the plague mate, Oh you got it, man, because like
- 18:22it's such a hot issue, especially now with what's going on in the world,
- 18:26it's really really hard to like, at the end of the day for
- 18:29me memes that are meant to essentially just be for me personally and escape from
- 18:36all the extra bullshit, Like I just want to crack a smile and have
- 18:38a laugh. I don't want to open up Facebook and see what's going on
- 18:41with like Palastine and Iran plastered over a Simpsons thing where it's like, this
- 18:47isn't to do with the Simpsons, Like, take your own shit and talk
- 18:49about it somewhere else. So I wanted to take the things that, like
- 18:53the negative components that I find with other groups, eliminate that, but also
- 19:00buy a space where you can have you know, slightly spicier content, slightly
- 19:03edgier jokes to where it's not completely you know, g rated content. It's
- 19:08not just offensive for the second being offensive either exactly, because that's also like
- 19:12cringy, like if someone's just we we get an occasion we're in the group
- 19:17where someone's just thinks it's a spicy content, but it's not. You're just
- 19:21inserting a shitty opinion under the guise of a Simpson's name, And so we
- 19:25put the squash on that quickly. But we want to allow people freedom to
- 19:29post what they like, obviously within reason, because some groups want to you
- 19:33know, squeaky claim. Some groups go the other side where they get dark
- 19:36and then the group gets completely sucked. And we just wanted the middle ground
- 19:38where people are free to express opinion, have difference of opinions, but avoid
- 19:45just the heavy politics that seem to burn down a lot of other groups.
- 19:48Yeah, do you find you have the same regular posters in your group?
- 19:52It's funny, man, because each post kind of ends up having like it's
- 19:56it's I even know how you articulate it. You get like your top ten
- 20:02kind of prevalent posters within that group, Like their are the sort of personalities
- 20:06within the group, so you get your standout characters. Has anyone tried to
- 20:10copy your your your gimmick of the your gimmick, but you know your style
- 20:12of the black with the white font. Has anyone tried to copy that?
- 20:15Or as everyone go, oh, that's Jack's, then we better not.
- 20:18There's no one that I would ever, There's no one that I would point
- 20:22out as being like, oh, they've intentionally started doing this. There's definitely
- 20:26been a couple where you can tell, especially with the self referential nature,
- 20:30because mind are very like the classic style of the meme that I'll post is
- 20:37generally two panels and the first one will be me, etcetera, etcetera,
- 20:42bottom panel me, etcetera, etcetera. Yeah, so when I see that,
- 20:47it can be like an homage to maybe something that I did. But
- 20:49at the end of the day, I don't stay claim to any mean like,
- 20:52you can post whatever you want if you take inspiration from that, so
- 20:56be it. Like I. Some people get really jealous or like very possessive
- 21:03of the style of meme that they post, and then if they see someone
- 21:06else try to mimic that, they're like, no, that's my ship.
- 21:08What the fuck that means? Man, don't there's Simpsons at the end of
- 21:12the day too. We don't own any of it. Yeah, so you're
- 21:15free to post whatever you like. Well, so many people from like three
- 21:18House were starting to like invade all my posts just running credit Jackniche and I
- 21:22was like, oh h to the point where like I haven't posted one of
- 21:26your means for like a week. As a result, I'm like, oh
- 21:29man, I'm just like even when I wasn't posting your memes, I was
- 21:32just posting credit. It's like twenty comments credit Jacknishline. I was like,
- 21:36oh guys, leave me alone. I'm a nice guy. There's also like
- 21:40a bit of tongue and cheek in like the four finger Dissed Town, you
- 21:42know what I mean. It's like if you look at it at face go
- 21:45too. It's like, yeah, we kind of yoink memes like credit where
- 21:48it's due, but at the end of the day, it's not like we've
- 21:51fucking stole the mona Lisa. It's a meme. Well, we always try
- 21:53to give credit where we can. But man, so many people I've had
- 21:56death threats. I remember one guy I generally said, if you you don't
- 22:00give credit to my meme, I'm gonna come with you along and like you
- 22:02just went to town. I was like, I just I wrote you looked
- 22:04in the comments, I said, who made this? Now that I know
- 22:07it's you, I'll put your credit in there and you back, Oh,
- 22:10no worries, mate, Yeah thanks. So I sorry. I got a
- 22:11bit over the top. But I just get real like defensive when people just
- 22:15pinch my memes. I'm like, chill out, dude, do you get
- 22:18what kind of the like inboxes do you get? Do you get some crazy
- 22:22inboxes? We just get people. People send memes through and their ship house,
- 22:27and they get really offended if I don't post them like I'll like sometimes
- 22:32I'll just like react to it and with a laughing faces they have they say,
- 22:34yep, I acknowledged that I've seen your meme. But I can't post
- 22:37everything, right. I'm very very picky with what I post up. Right,
- 22:41They've got to I'm gonna be able to. I know what my audience
- 22:42likes, and some of the memes that come through and it's like this isn't
- 22:45very good, but I still say, oh, yeah, great work,
- 22:47blah blah blah, And like three days later I'll say, so you're gonna
- 22:49post it, I'll go, oh, maybe we'll see how I've got a
- 22:52little bit of a backlog. Well why are you posting it? I'm like,
- 22:55oh god, block gone. I can't deal with this, you know
- 22:57what I mean. But we get now because the page has sort of gone
- 23:00a bit more popular lately, we're getting so many like hello admin, can
- 23:03we post on your page? All these fucking fake accounts, which is hard
- 23:07to sort of filter between the real accounts and the fake ones these days.
- 23:10Yeah, that I was not surprising. We like, I never would have
- 23:14envisioned the amount of widows that I've had in my my I don't want to
- 23:18say weirdos, but you said no, like honestly, well without being like
- 23:25an asshole about it. Like sometimes some people will post some really heinous content,
- 23:30give them a warning, be like remove the post, that's fine,
- 23:36and then you know they continue to do it, and you pretty much you
- 23:37can tell when it's a troll account, it's a fake profile and they're posting
- 23:44things with the anonymity of the Internet, and then you you remove that poster
- 23:49from the group, and then you just met with the most hillacious dms from
- 23:56these people just going in on you. Like some of the not even DM
- 24:00sometimes like some of the comments that I get on some of my posts because
- 24:03I reference my wife a lot in them. Yeah, obviously some of the
- 24:08because of the self referential nature and how I insert myself in the means it
- 24:12leads me open for probably a lot more criticism than like the Simpson style mash
- 24:18up posts, because they can attack my personality because it's put on showing the
- 24:23meme. Could you say it's me me? Yeah? Yeah. But also
- 24:30it's satire, like when I'm talking about like nutting in six punts, it's
- 24:37not necessarily you know, the actual truth of what's going on. It's satire.
- 24:41But I'll have people be like, oh, I feel so for your
- 24:45life. Like the other day someone commented They're like, I hope you get
- 24:49cheated on, And I literally had to laugh out loud and show my life
- 24:52because it was just so unnecessarily harsh. What's crazy is that people writing this
- 24:57too are like serious, that's the scary thing. What's going on in your
- 25:02life? This upset over a mean man? How many do you take down?
- 25:07How often do you have to take one down posts? Yeah, in
- 25:12like in the group when it's just like many man like at the moment with
- 25:17what's going on. We've had to take down a few because they're quite politically
- 25:22driven, and we didn't want to a group to kind of turn into whatevery
- 25:25other group does. So we had to run one of those topics where you
- 25:27just like it's best to leave it to other people. Not this for sure,
- 25:30for sure, And it's such a contentious topic that, I mean,
- 25:34no one's going to have the answer, like, no one's going to come
- 25:37to a mutual understanding on what's going on. So and they just escalate so
- 25:44quick and then before you know it, you're getting so many posts being reported,
- 25:48and you know what you're seeing like in mean groups where a trend continues
- 25:52for a while and it kind of just beats a dead horse. That's what
- 25:56I was going to ask you about that later on. Yeah, about the
- 25:57trends, Like do you sort of look at trends or do you sort of
- 26:00just think because you your thing is just relating to something's happened in your real
- 26:04life, sort of associated with your real life, So you don't really follow
- 26:07like the trends of the memes, do you, Because you've got to like
- 26:08Boat It's like yeah, because in the boat posting is like you know it
- 26:14was the leaves. Recently everyone was doing leaves and I was like, yeah,
- 26:18like that was like so popular for like four days. I reckon,
- 26:22I don't even know how they start, Like where did Kevin James one come
- 26:25from? So the Kevin James won started because it became its own thing outside
- 26:29of ship posting. Then they sort of moved it into ship posting. But
- 26:32yeah, I don't know how that exploded. It was just like that image
- 26:33has been online for so long and people have just decided now it's kind of
- 26:37steamed hams, like steam hams. When I was a kid, I didn't
- 26:41even find it all that funny. And then when we got like you know,
- 26:42when we got hold like twenty five thirty, it's like it just became
- 26:45like the meme of all memes, and I'm like, how, I mean,
- 26:48who just decided steamed hams was the meaning of all memes? Well,
- 26:52the minute and there's a trend of the hidden panel oh yeah in the comment
- 26:59one. I don't I don't find that style like personally, again, it's
- 27:03subjective. I don't find that style that main funny, but it goes on
- 27:07for so long, and then that's what we just try to avoid in the
- 27:11group. Like, you know, it's fine if you get in on a
- 27:14trend, but you don't want to be looking through a timeline and you've got
- 27:17twenty of the exact same joke in a row. Yeah. I try to
- 27:19avoid the trend ones and just try to look at ones that is not timeless,
- 27:22but go that anyone can relate to this, Even if you're not a
- 27:25Simpsons fan, you can probably relate to it. Yeah. Yeah, well
- 27:27that's just I just don't get in on the trend one because generally, like
- 27:32the trend style memes aren't in my wheelhouse of how I mean anyway, so
- 27:36I wouldn't be able to do a relatively good justice to one. I'll leave
- 27:40that for the other people who actually are good at that stuff. Do you
- 27:42have a favorite of yours? A favorite meme? Yeah, that you've made?
- 27:48You Do you have one that you didn't think was going to be that
- 27:49poppy and you're like, shit, people really like this one. Yeah.
- 27:52There's definitely been a couple of them, but none that I can really think
- 27:56of. Is I remember the one that went really well when we put it
- 27:59up. People loved it was the one where you're like sneaking out to get
- 28:03drunk when you're fifteen and then Malloy twiggling his mustag. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:07sneaking out to go back home. Now that was a pisser. Well,
- 28:11it's also funny some of the ones that there was one that you guys shared
- 28:15as well, where it was a lady talking about, you know, send
- 28:21him home in it Ober fed him blah blah blah. Yeah, they got
- 28:26a shitload of shares. That was one where that was a throwaway like that
- 28:32took what a minute to put together and then that takes off. So just
- 28:37like you really don't know what's going to hear and what's going to miss the
- 28:41way I gauge now because my wife she was never a Simpsons fan growing up.
- 28:44She's from the UK, like it was big in the UK, but
- 28:45she just never really watched it. She was from the but they call the
- 28:48country in the UK the equivalent of country in the UK. They didn't watch
- 28:52much TV or anything. But what I do now is I'll show her and
- 28:53mean before I post it, and if she reacts to it, I know,
- 28:56well Simpsons fans are going to like this because I liked it, and
- 28:59of a nonsense since fan likes it as well, there's probably gonna do really
- 29:02well. So that's sort of how I gauge now what I think a post
- 29:03is going to do well before I put it up, Like a meme is
- 29:06show my wife and she finds it funny, then that's the thing. And
- 29:07that's what I did with the sneaking out for a drink because like I think,
- 29:11you know, everyone who's in their mid thirties now can totally relate to
- 29:14that meme. Yeah, I feel like that's where a lot of my memes
- 29:18are going towards as well, just like crossing that thirty threshold and then suddenly
- 29:22it becomes a lot more like relatable content of things that you used to be
- 29:26able to do maybe in your youth that slightly start to deteriorate as you age.
- 29:33I mean, people love the memes where it's always like you know,
- 29:34it's happened to you, and people always sort of those memes always do really
- 29:37really well well. I just I'm a sucker fan of the nostalgia as well.
- 29:41So any of what's my whole podcast network is MAT's all the stuff exactly
- 29:45Like if anyone puts in some you know, when you see something, you're
- 29:48like, man, I forgot all about that, and it like takes you
- 29:52back to a time period. And that's what I enjoy about the memes,
- 29:56Like, that's what I enjoy about seeing any kind of stagia references takes you
- 30:00back to it such a comforting time in your life. That's why I think
- 30:03that's why we just love the Simpsons so much. It's just like you know,
- 30:07it was, It's just been there our entire lives. Like you're thirty
- 30:10three, the Simpsons has always been around. You know, well what I'm
- 30:12sure introduction to it? Do you remember, well, I know how I
- 30:15said earlier, how I sort of apparently I saw the Simpsons Trioso one We're
- 30:21making it to the Knife out of the Draw, the Bad dream House.
- 30:22And I don't remember that at all. I was too young. I was
- 30:25like two or three. Someone was like, you can't watch the Simpsons to
- 30:26your six. But my earliest memories is going to like video easy and seeing
- 30:30like remember those I've got them in here? The I go go one,
- 30:33hey, one second, I'll show you might be able to remember these?
- 30:34Yeah, do you remember these videotapes? Be able to run from the shop
- 30:37for sure? Man? Yeah, the white cover Simpsons collection one so they
- 30:41were like, yeah, first time I remember seeing the Simpsons, like they
- 30:44look cool, and I were like renting one and I didn't realize i'd rented
- 30:47one. And it's like it was a huge deal that I was allowed to
- 30:48watch the Simpsons. But that's my earliest memory of the Simpsons as seeing the
- 30:52videotapes at Video Easy. What about you? Oh man, I don't remember,
- 30:56like I can't pinpoint a specific memory. It's just six PM, week
- 31:02night, Channel ten mate. That was. That was the memory. I
- 31:03know. We had like a bunch of vhs just recorded off the TV,
- 31:07just episodes recorded off the TV. Are they're the best. I've still got
- 31:10a couple of mine and it's like, you know, you got something still
- 31:12got the ads in it and stuff. It's just so nostalgic. Just do
- 31:15you know what I would give to have some of the throwback episodes just to
- 31:18watch the ads alone, not even for the Simpsons episodes, but to watch
- 31:22the ads. Yeah, oh man, I'd give anything for that, the
- 31:25ads in between all the ads of the Simpsons though. Do you mean just
- 31:27the ads in between? No, just the ads just like the generic throwback
- 31:30like Australia ads. I do it all the time you go on YouTube,
- 31:33you type like nineteen ninety five Australian commercials and it's just like you with it,
- 31:37Like the commercials like pick apart, pick Apart, rehober that and things
- 31:41like that. Man, do you remember how sick the yoga commercials were?
- 31:44Holy shit? Man? Yeah, like just mini episodes they were. It
- 31:48was like the big bang thing was just like clips and the machine all together.
- 31:51It's an actual fucking movie. Like I'll get back to your barrying things
- 31:53like that. Yeah, that was sick. Yeah, someone needs to make
- 31:57a Yogo based Simpsons me. I think that's one. Think that's one of
- 32:00your ideas need to work on. I could tap into that for sure.
- 32:02Yeah, because those kind of things people just that you see it and you're
- 32:07like, holy shit, that was my childhood. You know. Well.
- 32:09The other thing about those tapes too, is I remember going to kmart.
- 32:14Do you remember how they'd have kind of the theme tapes were too hot for
- 32:17TV or I've got them all behind me here. Yeah yeah. Yeah.
- 32:21So it was like four episodes per tape and they were like twenty five bucks
- 32:25for a VHS that came out thirty dollars. Yeah, I've still got the
- 32:29price tag on my on my VHS. We paid thirty bucks for four episodes,
- 32:31mate. For That's the thing, though, man, is that no
- 32:34wonder you remember this shit verbatim? Because four episodes for twenty five thirty dollars
- 32:39you're watching the funk out of there, like you're spamming that. I said
- 32:44to like people who didn't grow up in our ear. It's just like when
- 32:46your mom bought you a fucking videotape. You had four tapes and that was
- 32:50your summer, and you watch those same fucking movies over and over again.
- 32:54Do you know what's so funny? Man? It's like the shot Like the
- 32:58shows of my childhood were kind of of the Simpsons, Seinfeld, South Park,
- 33:04Malcolm in the Middle, and Friends and people. Friends just kind of
- 33:07treated like a punchline. Now it's kind of like the nickelback of TV shows
- 33:10where it's like, oh, yeah, it's funnier than Friends, blah blah
- 33:14blah. I was like that right until I started doing the podcast with my
- 33:19wife and I was like, fuck, that's right. I used to really
- 33:22liked this show. Why was I shitting on it? It's like I just
- 33:24became a sheep? Ah, man, it's like, look, I don't
- 33:30know how i'd go watching it as a first time viewer through the lens of
- 33:34a thirty three year old, but nostalgia defeats everything, and I grew up
- 33:39on it, Like Jennifer Anistill was like my first crash. I remember from
- 33:43what she was like with Brad Pitt. Yeah, I remember like having a
- 33:46dream that they adopted me. That's how much I just wanted to be involved.
- 33:52And then I remember, like, I had this this notebook, and
- 33:54I had a stick figure drawing of me and her holding hands and I cut
- 34:00out of her head and I'm like, you know, it sounds romantic and
- 34:04sweet, but if I saw that image now of like her cut out head,
- 34:07I'm like, this is impossibly creepy to look at. Imagine if you
- 34:09told her that story in person, she'd be backing through the hedges. Mate,
- 34:14Yeah, with shit Homer disappearing. Yeah, there's no why, There's
- 34:19no way I would do that. But see Friends for my wife is what
- 34:22the Simpsons, I say, was for me. So like my wife,
- 34:24she puts Friends on every day. She just watches it on loop from start
- 34:28to finish and goes back to the start, right it's just it's her comfort
- 34:30food, comfort to me. Right. I found since I started doing the
- 34:32podcast, I don't watch The Simpsons anywhere as much as I used to.
- 34:36Like the Simpsons just used to always be on in my house. When I
- 34:38went to bed, I'd put the commentaries on the dvna's it was just always
- 34:40Simpson, Simpsons, Simpsons found Sins. I did the podcast, it almost
- 34:45feels like it's become work for me. But it's like I try to dissociate
- 34:49from the show now because it's I see there's a bit of work, and
- 34:52that's sad because I've got like a five year old and a two year old.
- 34:54But what I've started doing now is I've started introducing them to the show,
- 34:57to the point where they're now saying, can I watch the Simpsons.
- 35:00I'm like, oh, the world's all good again, you know. Well,
- 35:02that's almost like why like New Simpsons Cops all the ship it does.
- 35:07But I was only talking to my wife yesterday about how I wanted to go
- 35:12for as long as I'm alive, because I feel like the day that they
- 35:15end, it will be such a bittersweet moment for me, just knowing that
- 35:17it's still continuing is like special to me. I don't want it to ever
- 35:22end. I don't care how much it diminishes in quality. I don't want
- 35:27it to ever stop. I like knowing that it's there. Everyone's the same
- 35:30way, everyone in our age is just like, even if you might not
- 35:32watch the show as often as you did, just know it's kind of like
- 35:35you know your grandma or yeah, yeah, and uncle that you don't see
- 35:37it that often. You know it might only seem at Christmas time, but
- 35:39just knowing that he's going to be there at Christmas time makes you happy,
- 35:42sure, for sure. So yeah, I also hope they never go.
- 35:45I do feel like eventually they might just transition to being maybe like a Disney
- 35:50Plus exclusive show or something. I don't know. At this point, I
- 35:52don't even know how it ended. It'll never be. It never be considered
- 35:57a good ending, like you've never ended What's are though. It's such a
- 36:00rare It's like you're chasing something that's so impossible to achieve when like you've been
- 36:05on a series for as long as that. I don't know how he'd ever
- 36:07come up with an ending that's going to satisfy and be unanimously praised. I
- 36:13don't mind Al Jean's idea that he put out several years ago now where it
- 36:15was like it'll end with them going to watch the school play at Christmas time.
- 36:21So basically the show just becomes a yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 36:23I think that's probably the best way, right, because they're stuck in
- 36:27a time of anyway. Yeah, and it's the other I like a little
- 36:31bit off track, but you know how there's that real elitist view of season
- 36:37two to nine. That's all I watch season two Golden era. Yeah,
- 36:42yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean if you're not watching season ten to
- 36:45even twenty, you're missing out on so much good content. Like season ten
- 36:50alone, for me is still peak Simpsons, but even twenty through to thirty,
- 36:54they're still like even bad Simpsons is better than a lot of new content.
- 37:00Yeah, that's the thing. Yeah, compared to some of the ship
- 37:02that's out there. Yeah, it's still enjoyable. The only problem that I
- 37:06like, the only thing that I slightly struggled with with new New Simpsons,
- 37:09it's just some of the voices. Yeah, like March it's becoming man,
- 37:15Julie Cavra, it's rough. Nicholas, my wife, she's like, when
- 37:20did they replace Marge. I'm like, they haven't. Yeah, I don't
- 37:27know. What is your wife? Is she a big Simpsons fan? Like,
- 37:30how does she feel about being part of your memes? She, I
- 37:32wouldn't say a big Simpsons fan. She definitely enjoys the Simpsons. She's a
- 37:37dragon ball Z fan. Okay, to this day, I haven't seen on
- 37:39an episode of dragon ball Z, so that's her thing. I'm kind of
- 37:44similar. Even though I was the guy that helped launch the Cheese TV facebook
- 37:47page, I used to love Cheese TV, so like i'd see it on,
- 37:50but I just never got into dragon ball I collected the little discs that
- 37:53used to get in the Smith chips, but I never actually watched the show.
- 37:57Say with Pokemon, I never really got into like the whole anime thing.
- 38:00But I was a cheese TV kid growing up, so like this is
- 38:02about this is twenty sixteen. I had on on a podcast, Ryan,
- 38:07because you would watch chea TV right back in the day. Sure, sure,
- 38:09sure, yeah. I had Ryan on and I was like, uh,
- 38:13what it sucks that you can't watch the old episodes and He's like,
- 38:15oh, I own pretty much every episode on VHS, just a production tape
- 38:19and I was like, excuse me, and he goes, yeah, yeah,
- 38:22they just all my back shehd. I'm like, what do you mean.
- 38:23He goes, yeah, I've got about five hundred tapes out there,
- 38:25and I'm like, send them to me and let's monetize this. Birs.
- 38:30We did that and then yeah, it was just like hearing that cheese TV
- 38:35theme music. Like you said earlier, it just takes you back sometimes,
- 38:37like you think of old TV shows, You're like, I love that show,
- 38:39when really you love the theme music that's what you love. Yeah,
- 38:43yeah, yeah, for sure. Man. There's like even now there's some
- 38:46remember like funny Bones mm hmm, her friends shipped the Shore. That intro
- 38:52slaps that ship. The short intro goes harder than it has any right to
- 38:58know. I never write what about bad? I remember Babba the Elephant of
- 39:00course. Yeah, that's like I put it on the other day and I
- 39:04was like, oh my heart. Yeah, like some times I'll just go
- 39:07down a rabbit hole just watching the intros to certain shows from my childhood,
- 39:12and you just just smile the whole time, don't you. For sure,
- 39:14Yeah it's the best, and that's what the Simpsons does. It just makes
- 39:16you smile because it reminds you of being a kid, being like eight.
- 39:20No, Thursday afternoon, six pm. Your parents are watching the news.
- 39:22You're in the other room watching the Simpsons. Funnily enough, man, I
- 39:25was saying about, like one of the shows in my childhood was south Park.
- 39:29To this day, I have a memory of I had never wanted to
- 39:34see something as much as I wanted to see the south Park movie. But
- 39:37I was ten when it came out, ye, and it was in the
- 39:42theaters the same time as Star Wars episode one, and so my dad and
- 39:45my brother went and saw south Park and you did the swift Yeah, no,
- 39:50no, I had to go see Star Wars. My loss is kind
- 39:53of cool, like, you know, like Darth Maul's got his double savings
- 39:57kind So I saw that a few times, but like it eventually turned into
- 40:02wearing my dad down until we eventually broke and let me see the movie because
- 40:08it was just every day, relentless. I need to see the south Park
- 40:10movie movie. Legit, Man, just worring down. I just watched the
- 40:19thing. I wasn't allowed to watch it. I wasn't en suposed watch South
- 40:22Bike. I used to have to, like had a TV in my room,
- 40:24so like nine to thirty Monday nights, I am I'm watching Channel seven,
- 40:29SBS, SBS turned Man at a certain time of night too, like
- 40:34you don't know what's going to come on? Erotic Tails, mate, Yeah,
- 40:42Erotic Tails and Champagne Comedy. They were like the two things that I
- 40:44remember well. Champagn Comedy on Channel thirty one that was like a local Victorian
- 40:47station where it was just like up and coming comedians, which are always terrible,
- 40:51but I remember like it was like we'd have Win Southern Cross, ABC
- 40:55and SBS, and then it was like it was like the gab scene Gabble
- 41:00Gabbo where it was like channel ten's coming, we have we have fuck olwen
- 41:06Ober. So we would get like the idea of a fifth channel was crazy
- 41:10when we need the channel? When did you get ten? I thought,
- 41:14I just assumed we always had. It was no, no, no,
- 41:15no no. I was like fourteen, and we had to go buy a
- 41:19set top box to install into the TV so you could get the additional channel.
- 41:24And then ten came on and that's when we really got the Simpsons because
- 41:28I had a couple like my childhood best friend he had Oz star in his
- 41:32room, which was like a game changer. So you stayed there on the
- 41:36weekends and you'd have your Fox Simpsons marathons from like nine to midday, nine
- 41:39to twelve. Super Simpsons weekends was like the highlight of my childhood. It
- 41:44was altimate, man, just like we used to his laying bed. His
- 41:46mum would bring us just an infinite loop of vegimiteites and we just spammed the
- 41:51symptoms. It was the best. That's like the most ouzzy thing ever,
- 41:54like vegemite toes and just spamming The Simpsons every weekend as a mess. So
- 42:00yeah, I lived for that. So yeah it was great. Well,
- 42:04man, I know it's been fun chatting to you. I know you've got
- 42:07work to do, so better let you go. But before we go,
- 42:07I've honest that the new thing I sent you the question? Right, did
- 42:09you get the question about the marathon? So I'll ask the question like like
- 42:14you didn't know, all right, So you don't know this question. So
- 42:15it's nineteen ninety eight, you've been giving control of Channel ten. You've actually
- 42:20got Channel ten now in Tasmania, and it's Friday night and you're going to
- 42:23put together a five episodes Simpsons marathon. What are you putting on? I
- 42:28had to actually my OCD brain struggled with this, so I'll preface it with
- 42:34My favorite episode of all time is probably the Homer They Fall where he fights
- 42:39Tradaic Tatum. Well you're a boxing coach now, right, So it was
- 42:45like encompassed everything I liked about The Simpsons. It's season eight, my favorite
- 42:50animation, the boxing content. Traderic Tatum is my Instagram handle. I have
- 42:53kid presampable tatooed on me. Really, yeah, where is it? It's
- 42:58on my calf, so it's a bit hard anyway. Yeah, okay,
- 43:00yeah, but that's one of the best of all And finally a kid bo
- 43:05Yeah exactly. Man and my wife had like this custom art made for me
- 43:09where it's me ring side watching home and get destroyed next to Abe. And
- 43:15so that's my favorite episode of all time. The why Can't We Be Friends?
- 43:17It is one of my favorite Simpsons gags of all time. Oh yeah,
- 43:22the walkout. Yeah, it's just unbelievable, so good. It's so
- 43:25good. But I'd have to put cape fear because I feel like you got
- 43:30to have like a side show Bob episode. That's the iconic one Home of
- 43:35the Great and that kind of encompasses like it's got a musical compartment in it.
- 43:38Yep. I think who shot mister Burns? Part one and two has
- 43:45to be together. And I think, honestly, Man, that is such
- 43:47a fantastic that could have been a movie. It felt like a movie.
- 43:52Yeah, I'm too young to remember the mystery of like the Cliffhanger. I'm
- 43:58too young. I lived at Man. One of my earliest, one of
- 44:00my favorite memories is my sister and I sitting there with a notepad in my
- 44:04because my parents were watching something and I remember like part two was coming up,
- 44:07so we were going to find out who did it. And we spent
- 44:09like all the time in between trying to work out who did it. We
- 44:13had our little notepads. We spent over the summer or whatever it was winter
- 44:15trying to work out who did it, and rem my parents' room because I
- 44:17was watching something in the living room. I was sitting there was so excited.
- 44:20I thought it was Smithers. I was. I was certain it was
- 44:22Smithers, even though that was obviously never going to be Smithers. But I
- 44:24remember sitting there and the genuine excitement and anticipation. It's hard to describe how
- 44:29exciting it was. It was just like a major event of your childhood.
- 44:32Did you have any idea that it would have been Maggie? No one had
- 44:37any idea. No one did. Apparently they've said that there was like one
- 44:40guy in like the forums, because the Simpsons showrunners and the writers used to
- 44:45bruise all the forums online back when internet was in its early days, and
- 44:47there was one guy who said, I reckon it was Maggie and they could
- 44:51never find out who it was. And still to this day they've never found
- 44:52out who it was. But only one person ever genuinely guessed Maggie and put
- 44:57it in a public forum. No one else guessed it carec You remember the
- 45:00there's a pretty famous imagery of the odds that's fake. I knew it was
- 45:05going to be fake. Yeah, anything that cool is going to be fake.
- 45:08I mean it's nice to imagine, though, isn't it. It's just
- 45:12like, yeah, apparently that's all fake. Yeah, well shit, forget
- 45:15that then. But that's that's what it felt like though, Like it was
- 45:19so it was such a big event for kids that you would believe that that
- 45:22was genuinely happening because the Simpsons were huge. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 45:25yeah. I think that's such a great Part one and part two. Springfield
- 45:30Files is my favorite. And I'm not even the biggest X Files mark but
- 45:36the crossover is so well done. It's in my top five of all time.
- 45:39I'm a big sci fi fan. So okay, well man, you
- 45:44know when Homer steps off the bus and a violin orchestra is playing, Yeah,
- 45:47I was like the most terrified child. I was scared of everything,
- 45:51and I remember that scared me. I was like, oh, it was
- 45:53kind of creepy. Component in that episode is in the woods have creepy violin
- 46:00that X Files music signifies be scared when you were a child. That's like
- 46:05in terms of generating a feel, that's one of the best intro songs,
- 46:10like the perfectly captured the vibe of the show. The X Files music is
- 46:15so good. You know when you go like skip credits, you never skip
- 46:17credits for the X Files team Nah nah for sure, or shipped the shore
- 46:23or I was going to say you need a Threehouse of Horror one. I
- 46:29was going to say probably three House Horror six. I really like the Groundscaper
- 46:34Willie Freddy Krueger concept. That was the first new Simpsons I was ever allowed
- 46:38to watch after the band ended, And I remember being so excited mentioned this
- 46:43last week's show because we did like the most gruesome deathcoltry House of Horror.
- 46:45But I remember sitting there. I remember like Homer three D right and now
- 46:49advertising a channel of ten, like The Simpsons will be in three D this
- 46:52week. So here's like fucking seven year old me sitting there with my red
- 46:54and blue glasses on before the show starts, thinking it was going to be
- 46:58in three D. But that's not what they meant. But you know,
- 47:00like in the nineties, three D meant red and blue glasses. Yeah,
- 47:04yeah, for sure, man, I was going to say that, But
- 47:08I feel like i'd put in probably twenty two the twenty two short films.
- 47:13That's my favorite episode of all time because just think it just signifies Springfield as
- 47:15a whole, doesn't it. It just shows you a real insight into the
- 47:17Springfield community. It captures everything too. It's the most quotable. Every single
- 47:24segment of that is a meme in itself, like the most iconic episode in
- 47:30terms of what it produced. But the Steamed Hands alone is the same thing
- 47:35pulp fiction. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and that being one of my
- 47:37favorite movies makes it even better. Yeah. As a kid, though I
- 47:42had never seen pop fictions, I was like, I don't know what's going
- 47:44on here. It's funny, but I don't get it. And then when
- 47:45you get older, you're like, oh shit, this is awesome, funny
- 47:47man, because we only we just sat through Twin Peaks and so I'd never
- 47:53seen that. And then when it's like the yeah, I never understood that
- 47:58referenced but now again, especially where he's like, brilliant, I have no
- 48:02idea what's going on. That's how I felt pretty much to the entire duration,
- 48:06so very relatable content. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. So is
- 48:09that your marathon set? That would be my marathon. Yeah, that'd be
- 48:13a pretty good marathon. Yeah. There was something about, like it's hard
- 48:15to describe to a kid now the idea of a marathon and how exciting it
- 48:20was. You know, you're at school, You're like, oh, it's
- 48:22gonna be a Simpsons marathon tonight. I can't wait. Like, you get
- 48:23your videotap, you put it on long plays so you can take longer.
- 48:28You know, you fit all the episodes on the one vhah. Yeah,
- 48:30yeah, yeah. Marathons, they're just they're a dying breed, now,
- 48:31aren't they. All the people do people's binge watching now binge watches like the
- 48:35modern day marathon. Well, that's how I feel about video stores. Man.
- 48:38The nothing was more exciting as a young teenager going to the video store
- 48:45selecting your perfect five or six movies and then coming home and just like knowing
- 48:52that You've got this sick lineup of movies waiting for you. But like as
- 48:57much as I'm nostalgic for it, you still wouldn't want to go back to
- 49:00that with the accessibility that we have now. Yeah, it's I mean,
- 49:02if they opened up a video store now, I'd probably go there, like
- 49:07occasionally, just for the nostalgia factor, you know, with people that still
- 49:09watch the vhs like they would just like they've gone on blue ray, but
- 49:14for the nosnaalgia, they'll watch it on VHS. I'm not I do that
- 49:17very sometimes, maybe once or twice a year, because I've got like the
- 49:21old VH. I've got like Jaws on VHS and like Dressy Park and stuff,
- 49:23and I've got the old box television cause I've got like my old like
- 49:27Nintendo Serpa and stuff like Duck Hunt, and they work best with the old
- 49:30school TV. So that's why I've got the old school TV. So I'm
- 49:31like, and you put it on, you like, how the fuck did
- 49:35I ever think this was like good quality? It's like, is it rough?
- 49:38I haven't seen vhas quality in forever, man, So is it a
- 49:40rock? I mean it's it's not great. And like the TV loud the
- 49:46Big Box. Turn it on. It's like yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 49:52that's just you can like you put the TV on it and it's almost like
- 49:53you can feel that it's on in the room. You can feel the radiation
- 49:57in the room. Yeah yeah, yeah, but yeah, but a good
- 50:00time. But yeah, thank you again, man, I do appreciate you
- 50:01coming on to the show and chat some Simpsons ship posting. Well, I
- 50:05was going to say, if anyone needs good admins in Simpsons group, lookout
- 50:07for Sorker, Ryan at Bought posting, She's Rad's Karna, Martin and Rubys
- 50:15and Eddie at thrill House or me. They're the best. They're the best
- 50:19ones looking for those ones, they're the best. Well yeah, taking my
- 50:22own bias, they're the best. And can you can you give us before
- 50:23you go. Give us a tease of an upcoming meme that you're excited for,
- 50:27that you've got an idea. I know you planted that yoga idea into
- 50:30my brain now, so maybe the yoga one I work credit for that one.
- 50:35Yeah for sure. Yeah, we'll figure thiscout
