- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, I'm Mike and McCurray.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for joining me for Bible Track Echoes today.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Looking forward to what God has for us.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: You see, I get to speak on a subject that is very near and dear.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: The Lord has laid on my heart the theme, this thought, the household of faith.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we will be speaking about today and the majority of this week and we will take as our text as we begin Psalm 78.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, not long ago, we had the opportunity to host my father-in-law in our studio.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: You say, what studio?
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's Paul Levine Studios is a few years ago.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: We had a designated gift come in, a donation specifically, so that we could update and upgrade and build out some of our
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: According abilities, you're actually listening right now on some materials and some tools and things microphones and whatnot that are part of that studio, but this gift came in and you know how designated gifts work.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: We must use them.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: We should use them for the gift for the purpose for which they were meant.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so this particular gift was for studio.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: And we have had the opportunity
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: with some incredible equipment.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: And to God be the glory, we've been able to produce some music and walk in the steps of Paul Levine, our founder.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know how deer music was to him and how active he was in that genre of ministry.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: He and blind Bob Finley had a wonderful time and we were banding about different names.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: What do we call this endeavor?
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: What do we call this studio?
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: It
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: I am blessed to be able to explain to you the how and the why it came to be oftentimes names get slapped on things, the side of buildings and different memorial areas, but very rarely is an opportunity to understand and enjoy the person behind.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: that name, and Paul Avine was one who was so widely enjoyed.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: His personality, his mentality, his spirit was infectious.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was a very spiritual man, yes, but he was just a fun loving man.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: He was a good man, and so we're grateful to have Paul Avine Studios.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: And recently, we got to host my father-in-law.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: Partly, yes, as a keepsake, but also my father-in-law has a very good voice, and he sings well, and has been musical, much of his life, and has used that gifting for the Lord in many different occasions, and so we're working on a solo, but not just a solo, but a family project of my father-in-law, and that working title right now is something along lines of things that are dear to my heart.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: things that are dear to my heart.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: What a wonderful phrase, what a wonderful title for an album, but it got me thinking.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was sitting in my office and though the room that we record in is somewhat soundproofed, you know, a very little of soundproofing is perfect if ever.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so I was listening and enjoying.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: I got to act as a little bit of producer on the project in Austin of
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, my brother-in-law, this is our father-in-law.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about Dan Woodberg, but Austin, he was the engineer, as a phenomenal job with that, and they were working together in the studio.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: I was up in my office working on some things and got to hear.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I realize that I am not, and please understand I'm not doing this right now.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not writing my father-in-house eulogy or anything like that.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: But my father-in-law has an understanding of the fact that our days are limited.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: Should the Lord return, will all go home, all at once, those of us that are in Christ that are saved?
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: But he also realizes, should natural events continue on?
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: He is about 67 years older so, and he says it this way, he has more sand in the bottom of the hourglass than he does in the top.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: What a great way to think about it.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: But also it calls you to remember in the fact that our days are limited.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Knivers are guaranteed to borrow.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I may think I a plenty of sand in the top of the hour glass, but there's no reason I couldn't meet with an unfortunate event.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: No reason that God couldn't call me home if that was
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: His will, as I've spoken about recent days, I drove a Toyota Land Cruiser off a 25-foot cliff, no, not as a stuntman, but a complete accident, a mechanical issue, and I was in Papua New Guinea.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been if I had been injured, it would have been a long time till I would have gotten to some kind of working hospital of any ability and could have very easily just broken my neck on the first impact.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: But it wasn't my time, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be tomorrow.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't mean it couldn't be this week or next year.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't mean to be morbid, but my father-in-law understands that 67 years old, God's given him a fruitful, long ministry.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's pastored our home church, for a speech to Dwight, here in Illinois for 38 years, what a legacy.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: We could talk about that, we will talk about that a little more in just a moment, but think about with me if you would, the household of faith.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was reflecting on.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think God used this occurrence, listening to my father-in-law's saying to think about the household of faith.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very blessed with a father who loves the Lord, a mother who loves the Lord, who raised us in the nurture and admonition of God Almighty.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: My wife, her sisters, were blessed with a mother and father,
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: They did the same.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: And you may be thinking about America.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's wonderful for you.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: Because I didn't have that privilege.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you, that are listing right now, you say, my father, my mother, whether they're living or not, they did not live for the things of the Lord.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's amazing to me that you and I, this is really just a part of God's grace,
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: You and I have the opportunity no matter what our past looks like, we can break those generational chains.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: The bondage from the ester year and we can move forward even if your family is you, even if your household is singular at the moment.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Even if you've made mistakes in marriage, made mistakes with your children, you can go forward.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: It would not shock me, I would not be surprised in the least.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: If I was speaking to people right now with generational trauma in your past, maybe some things of your own fault and things that you'd own to.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: You'd not raise your children the way you should have, and now they're living like Hellians, maybe that's the case.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe it's time to stop living life through the rear of you mirror, and maybe it's time to move forward.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it will require faith.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a difficult road.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying it's going to be a bed of ease, but I think it's a worthy road.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'd ask you if you would turn your attention to Psalm 78.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Talking today for just a moment about why do we take legacy?
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Why do we take this household of faith so seriously?
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the scripture can be and always should be our guide.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: In Klein, your ears to the words of my mouth, I will open my mouth in a parable.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known in our fathers have told us, we will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord and his strength, and his wonderful works that he has done, for he established a testimony in Jacob.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: and appoint a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers that they should make them known to their children, that the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: who should arise and declare them to their children and verse 7 of Psalm 78 as the last today, that they might set their hope in God and not forget the works of God but keep His commandments.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: If you were looking for a scriptural, a Bible definition of that which I speak about today, the house hold of faith and maybe look no further than these seven glorious verses.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: These verses highlight.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: the grave responsibility of each generation to pass on the knowledge of God's deeds and character.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Often we focus so much on what God has done, but we don't focus as much on who he is.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: The legacy of faith is not just about transferring information.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: The household of faith is not
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: But about ensuring the next generation knows who God is, and what He has done.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: And so I ask, as we move forward, let's get practical.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: Father, mother, grandfather, grandmother.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: I could just list off titles for family members, uncles, aunts, and all and down the line, but even children.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: What are you doing?
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, to pave the way.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: I've spoken many a time on multi-generational ministry and really this is probably just an addendum.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is probably a continuation of that thought but this burdens me.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: I can't tell you what a joy it is.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: When my children take things they have learned from me and hold me accountable.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've said this before, but my daughters will at times, draw me up short.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: asking me, did you give that person a gospel tract?
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my, you want to talk about a knife to the heart, walking out of a place of business and Emmy looks up at me with her big eyes, did we give them a tract?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: The reason you're asking is probably because we did not envy, and I am so thankful for the fact that you're impetuousness causes me to pause and say, you know what, we're going to walk right back in there, and we're going to give her a track and often times, she takes the onus, she takes the responsibilities I want to give it to them.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: I remember it.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: I want to give it to them.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely Emmy, and she'll use and watch her use of phrase that I so often use.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, if you have a moment, I'd like you to read this.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you would, take this here.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: I've something for you to read when you have a moment.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say something along those lines.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: Just very simple.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: I just slide it across there and she'll hand it to them so bravely.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm at my prairie.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: She keeps that courageousness for the rest of her life.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: But she also keeps me accountable in that way.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what a thought.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: That my six year old girl.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: What a wonderful thought that she would draw me up short like that.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: Hope she never stops.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: What a blessing.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad for the fact, though, and please understand, I say this with modesty.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad with the fact that she has observed
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Her mother and her father used gospel tracks enough that it has become somewhat imprinted in grain dinner.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're endeavoring to raise a godly, a Christlike, a biblical household of faith.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: We are not perfect.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe if I was, I wouldn't forget to use gospel tracks every once in a while.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: but we're not perfect.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Neither are you, neither are any of us.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: But we do have a mandate.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: We must take legacy, the household of faith so seriously.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go forward.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see what God will do through us.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to continue in this vein and this thought tomorrow.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day for his and we will play on Doc Newsom.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: God bless you.
