- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi folks, welcome to the episode of Film Study at Cypher Camp Notes from today 82626 which I don't want to take lightly.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to make light of this, but this is kind of the Super Bowl of training camp.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: This is the joint practice against Washington Redskins played at home, of course, already had two joint practices with the Vikings, those are little Super Bowls as well, but since they were played on the road, they're not the kind of Super Bowl they are for the ball of our media here.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: very exciting day out at the castle, a lot of media in attendance, virtually no fans.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been some sort of a friends and family day for Raven's organizational employees because we're some people in a stance, but it was a fairly lowly attended crowd by non-media, but all of the Washington media was effectively there and so is of course a bigger slice of Baltimore media than you'll ever see otherwise.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: It could be about 10 people from 105-7
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, very sunny hot practice was physical.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's the last work of the preseason for most of the starters.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: Control environment is the term they've kept using.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: So Lamar Jackson and all the starters play today.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: They will, of course, not play in the final preseason game, which is Friday.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: And an interesting slip of the tongue occurred at the podium today.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Then I'll just talk about briefly here because
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Jesse Mentor was there and said, talked about how, you know, we go from this joint practice to some days, cut down day and, and my immediate reaction that I wait a minute, there's a game we're flying Friday.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: People paid for tickets for that, you know, and what do we try to see?
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I did ask him about that.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to get to that later in the podium time, but, but it's interesting that, you know, this is really the final step in a lot of ways of training camp.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: They'll have a walk through tomorrow, not open to the medium,
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Friday they play at 6 p.m. and Sunday is cut down day and by 6 p.m. they'll have to have the rosters in.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll be doing reviews the offensive defense and those are going to be highly focused on the roster as will of course Friday morning GM and our projections with the voss and me please give that a listen.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: no apparent injuries.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: I got to be careful about this because that's on the defensive side of the ball.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where I spent my time today.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: The way these joint practices work, you play on two fields simultaneously and I mean, you do some drills and calcetics and other things first that are combined and each team may be on the field at different portions of it.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: When they get into the real nitty-gritty of it, the Raven's defense and the Viking, I'm sorry, and the commanders' offense, I watched on field two, while on field one, and that's the one and the kind of the L of the elbow of the building, they are closest to the both the building and the indoor practice facility.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: that was where the Ravens offense and the Commander's defense was.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: So, most people, particularly most Ravens media were over there.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: You have lots of opportunities to get that information for any number of other sources, waiting on some information I didn't get in time for this broadcast to talk about, you know, Mars performance on the day if it comes in, but with the end I'll try and include that.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: But right now I'm going to be reporting on the defense here.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: All right, absentees, first full Z-flowers who was working outside field Zion Young was also over there.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys both came to the sidelines and were cheering on the teammates during practice.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: So they don't appear to be significantly hurt and that is what we heard from mid to later that those guys are working on their week one health here at this point.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Octavian Smith was not there, Belalcone, missed another day, Jaman Johnson, Carl Jones, and Reed Wilford, the mass unit of an inside-line-backer group that should be there for the first for the last pre-season game.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys would all be getting lots of snaps in that game.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if any of them are going to play, and in fact, they added an inside-line-backer Michael Barrett, who used to play at Michigan,
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: has had 111 solid inside linebacker pre-season snaps over the last two years with Las Vegas Carolina and Seattle.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: He is here entirely to get the ravens through that practice that finale against the commander.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't expect him to have any chance to make the team or even the practice squad, but he's a guy who is there to play in that finale and hopefully get some good tape where you can move on elsewhere.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so we're on the defensive field now, remember, Raven's defensive field.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: And then a first thing we saw was one on one passing drills, so Jeev and Hawkins have a past defense in coverage of Beats, the tight end, then the tight end yank off, one of the worst themes in the entire NFL, the boundary jacks and 25 yards down the middle of the field for a long pass, Deluca then disrupted a Henry on a wheel route.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's not Derek Henry.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Commanders and he disrupted him close to the line of scrimmage, but that threw off the timing on the wheel route, the ball ended up being overthrown, so it's played by Deluca there.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Starks then had sticky coverage of the tight end, more 30 yards down the right sideline in complete.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hawkins has sticky coverage of the tight end, but kitty ten yards in the middle of the field, that ball also incomplete.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then Simpson allowed a five yard catch to running back out and there's just a little flat route by the left sideline, many pride the ball loose for a force fumble after that was probably the highlight.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: of that set of place.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then Deluca, it was in great position on another flat route to impact the ball thrown by Reynolds, ball literally whizzed right by his head and shoulders, but he hadn't turned to find the football and so the ball was actually completed there.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunate, his teammates were kind of on him a little bit about it in the coaches, but anyway, the Ravens acquitted themselves well, I thought it was one of one passing drills, which are very difficult to defend.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: Then we had some of the real excitement.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: And this is something you go to and you really love the fact that's joint practice.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: We had one on one past rush drills.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: How they run this is the offensive line all sets up from left tackle to right tackle.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then one at a time, a defender lines up opposite, the left tackle, the left guard, the center, the right guard, the right tackle, and rushes the passers.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: So each offensive line is doing one of very fifth step and then after about two rotations,
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: The exchange and they put in a set of of twos of that position and so I recorded it as much as I could some of these I didn't get the commanders player on them, but I'll give you what I saw in these.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's extensive number of them.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: So Hendrickson is first he beat the left tackle Coleman outside.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: Hendrickson's very fast with the dip moves hands are placed well initially and he got underneath the the shoulder of the left tackle there and and was in quickly
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Then we saw Braddock Washington neutralized by the left guard cosmic, then Jenkins pulled the center golden, good push for him, Jones pulled the right guard, good Jones, Travis Jones, look like a monster in these reals, look very effective.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: So good one for him there and good Jones plays some time at center later in this drill, but this was the right guard.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: Green was then block 12 to 6 by the left tackle Scott, so I missed a play in there at right tackle obviously, but this was a block around the pocket around the arc of the pocket as I call a 12 to 6 block, so he was fairly effectively neutralized on that play.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Wilson, that's Dion Wilson, then boldly left guard, Tony Togi, I, I swear I thought Togi I was a defensive line, and at one time the pass went apparently there might be either there's two Togi eyes in the league or he's changed sides of the football which I don't think is likely so anyway Wilson drew him back a little bit on that play as well.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Koya had a very nice bowl rush on the center there.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: I did not catch who it was.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: I might have been Goldman, but I think they might have changed at this point.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: So it might have been somebody else as well.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Koya got good push today and also seemed to be chippy.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, today I will say you seem to be very much
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: physical, making other people mad about his physicality and then responding in kind when they got angry with him.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I think we had a little bit of that.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, the practice from a general standpoint in terms of having fights and whatnot was very clean.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: On the defensive side, there was really nothing at all.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: On the Raven's offensive side, there was reportedly a small fracus and I, you know,
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I couldn't really see what was going on, but I did hear the whistle blow multiple times in a row, which usually means there's a fracus.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the sidelines did not clear, so it was just pretty much the guys on the field and players trying to encoches, probably trying to pull them apart to get that done very quickly resolved, frankly, and what went on.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so we did a choreo.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Then Peables was next up.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: He bolded then shed the right guard.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: He looks very impressive right now.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Rucker at an iceball move on
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: then Ethan Burke blocked effectively was blocked effectively like the left tackle, Humphrey's.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: He tried to do a little spin and he couldn't really get it on court, Humphrey's a veteran and took care of Burke on that play.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Then Benny beat the left guard, Brunskill to the outside.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's an X-49er from a long time ago.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think he was in the 2019 game, for example, with a mar that they played against the 49ers.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: the fact that Benny beat him to the outside.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: Benny had a couple of high fives from his team mate returning to the group of linemen and that looked really good for him.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Ola Jiga, bowling the right guard sharpening, then Isaac was pan-cakeed unfortunately by the right
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's looked very good recently, in practice, in terms of past race.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: This wasn't a good day for him, in terms of plays that he made either in this trail or any that I noticed during the 11 or 1111s.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: Green was then blocked 12 to 6 again by Coleman, that's the second time that he's lost two different tackles involved, but not ideal.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: Then Braddock Washington was neutralized by the left guard Paul.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's the same Paul who was drafted two years ago in the same draft as Rosengarten as a big left tackle prospect.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's now playing a left guard for the commander.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: Needless to say, Rosengarten was a pretty darn good pick, relative to the other left tackles.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: And what was thought to be a very rich left tackled draft.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: The only guys distinctly outplayed him is Joe Alt.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: In the way back to more of this, Jones pulled the right guard Goldman at this point, and we had Goldman at center, but this is the time he sent it right guard.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: Jenkins drove the center, good Jones.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that rock maybe Goldman was out center, and this is good
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Tavius Robinson beat the right tackle, Connerly inside nice move by Tavius who had a really nice day on 11 or 11 as well.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Then Green finally got a win and it's 3rd attempt beating the left tackle, Scott inside.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Peoples beat the left guard to Guy with a crossover move.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: I guess you might call it like a euro step or something.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: But with pebbles, it's more of a very physical move too.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a stutter in it.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then he uses his kind of a physical on his inside arm.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: He uses physically to get by that lineman.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he's been very impressive in this camp.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see any way the Ravens leave him off the roster.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: And there might have to make a move to do it, but I think he makes it.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, oligika, bold then shed the Center Good Jones, a coyabold, the right-guard sharpening.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Rucker was in block 12 to 6 by Petit Ferrer, so he had trouble, you know, on that rep, and Burke was pancakeed by the left-hack, Oh, Humphrey's Burke got him earlier, and it got him again on this on this one, unfortunately.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: Wilson, D.M.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: Wilson, neutralized by the left guard didn't catch you.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: That was Benny, then beat the center hill right, another round of high-fives for Benny on that.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Graves drove back the right guard.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't record all of Graves individual efforts, and I apologize for that.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: I know his family would really like to know.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: Then Rucker beat the right tackle, Petit Furrier, inside nice move there.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, Rucker had some, you know, two out of three probably good reps here.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: This is one of the really hotly contested joint practice items.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: They are trying very hard on this.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: And they have a hockey-like handshake line.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: They do at the end to shake hands with your opponent and make sure that you understand you're both there to get work on this and you're trying to not try to kill each other or whatever.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Because
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: they go out at very physically there for a for a period of time.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: So very fun to watch.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was it's one of the best one on one drills you ever get at practice or past rush one on ones.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think much of receiving one on one's honestly in a relative sense.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: So good to see.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, let's move on.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: Got a lot of 11 and 11 highlights for you.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to have to go through these fairly quickly.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, the Ravens defense versus the commander's offensive, each of these cases, we saw Jaden Daniels out there, he threw to the Wider Severe Antonio Williams, a little flat route on the left side.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: It was about minus five, plus five, one circle, so Ravens got a stop for almost no gain.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it was the running back McNickles, but I didn't see him again on the date and see his number.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was a run for no gain, so I may have gotten that wrong.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was stopped by Simpson and Washington.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: They were proud of themselves with a big stand-up in the middle of the field there.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: We saw running back Allen.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: He went down very hard on a run in the middle for one.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see who delivered that contact, but it would not surprise me if it was a coie other than the fact I think the starters were in at this point.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: So Travis Jones possibly, there are other players on there who went down very hard running into the middle of that line.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: We had a heartman on as a backup.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: He threw over through the tight and yank off with Higgins trailing Then we saw a keyoutry jacks and they were down near the goal line at this point.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: So it kind of far away But keyoutry jacks and had a force fumble on a run middle and appear to be recovered by the commanders But I think about it.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I know someone said that Washington recovered it and I think they met Washington the team and not broad Of Washington
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, a really nice play by counter Jackson and in truth counter Jackson probably would not be on the field with broad direct product was was on typically with that first unit in counter Jackson with all the you know the stars playing again Would have been on with the second team.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's that was the recovery on that.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Daniels then have a mesh run right for approximately 10 yards.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: He does look like he can run that play well.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: It does not probably quite have the leverage reading capabilities that Lamar has because those are, as I've mentioned many times, so this show before the highest almost of any athlete in the history of athletics.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, put him right up there with Barry Sanders, Gail Sears and
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, we saw pressure by Jalen Hawkins that forced Daniels to ground a ball on the right side.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: Really nice blitz there.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: We saw fumbled snap.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Daniels had it bounce around in front of him.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: And you remember that play against Cincinnati a couple of years ago.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, yeah, I think it's 24 where Lamar picked up the ball then found as a likely in the end zone.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and this looked like it started like that except he threw it in the end zone and Hamilton intercepted it.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: Campbell then had a pass defense at the line of scrimmage.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: We have a lot of trouble figuring out who knock that ball down because nobody's claiming it.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: And normally there's a party going on right around the player who makes a pass defense.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's a big event for them.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Cleans Campbell has been there and done that.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think he was the one to knock it down.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: He certainly has the the big reach in there to do it.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: And we couldn't figure out who else it was.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was him.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels then threw a ball-out quick in complete five yards between the numbers and the left hash didn't even see who the target was on the play, but he was obviously feeling pressure from the Ravens pass rush in this thing.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: He was off the field after that play.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: A new quarterback came in, that was
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: Caliac, Caliac Manus, I believe, is how it's pronounced.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I may be wrong, Caliac Manus.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: I said, number 16, we'll see him in the preseason game.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure he threw it a tight end cager on a little flat route by the left side line and a wusier pushed him out of bounds.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then he threw two bricks about a 10, a 10 yard TD pass also with a wusier in coverage.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: So that was their big highlight of that first session.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: Went to a new segment, Daniel's through to Widersever McCleuron with Starks close between level two and level three.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: So, one player who showed up pretty well today for the commanders was McCleuron, he had a couple of nice plays and got
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: not just short throws from the quarterback.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: The next play Daniels to McCleuron between Starks and Humphrey for 15 yards by the left sideline.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: On that play, however, Tavius Robinson had an apparent sack that was not blown dead.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sitting there watching the Russian practice with Femmy, I'm standing there watching the practice with Femmy and we had our little perch on the thing and we both thought that that play should have been blown dead and that Tavius eased up on the play.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: fear a number of plays they just allow to be played out because you get some value from the coverage rep and what not and I understand that and from the past itself but they probably you know and sure when they look at the film they're going to say that's a sack by tedious
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Allen had a run-left Simpson kind of took a poor angle, which allowed him wide.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of thought he was fast enough to get to a certain point and he wasn't, and that allowed Allen to turn the corner and make a decent gain up the left side line.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels then has scrambled right for five to ten yards, but was called back for an offensive holding on it appeared the left tackle Coleman who was in against Hendrix and so Hendrix and
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: has already had several nice rushes in the one-and-one past rush drills, and this time he drew a whole non-common.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels, then, through to the wide receiver, the news number I did not get, I'm sorry about this, but Humphrey made a quick tackle for minus 5 yards near the left side, on Great Play, Marlin, anticipating downhill,
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: some sort of wide receiver screen that was not set up properly and Humphrey was in there to quick for anything to be done about it.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: Next play, Washington had the wrong number of players in the huddle.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: The play had to be blown dead and had to restart.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: Probably would have been a delay of game under normal circumstances.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: They had a number of pre-snap fouls during this.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now, obviously, I'm watching them play offense, and I'm not watching how many the Ravens had respectively, but it looked bad for the Washington offense today.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels then through to TE Moore in complete zero yards by the right sideline Reynolds then had a run middle for a first down.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: That was a pretty good breakthrough on the Raven's defense on that play.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: Olegia then had a past defense at the line of scrimmage versus Daniels Daniels then through the wide receivers to font digs for no yards.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: by the right sideline and Wiggins made a quick tackle.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: So Wiggins and Humphrey each have made some quick downhill plays in this practice so far.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Then they're running back out and again, ran middle and I saw Travis Jones hit the ground.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure exactly why that happened.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if he was just blocked very effectively.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: If he tried to make the tackle and missed it, which may have been the case, but either way Travis Jones, who has looked physical since his return,
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: on this particular play appear to be beaten in one way or another.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: Daniel's then through to Allen, again, the running back, right at the line of scrimmage, by the left side line, it is a quick tackle by Rokwant Smith, that the rapidity of players going downhill against these short passes and check downs very impressive for the ravens in this practice.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: Then the running back Reynolds had a run middle, Rokuan Smith made the tackle, just passed the line of scrimmage, Daniels then went to McCleuron for 15 yards between the right hash and right numbers, and then he crossed the field for five to ten perhaps additional yaks.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: That was a nice long play in a run and catch by a catch end run by McCleuron.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: We said, this is a burr called the left edge versus the running back Reynolds, a nice play, Hartman on the next play went to Cager, that was right at the line of scrimmage between the right hash and right numbers, it was about 0 plus 5 on the play, Higgins and Wallace converge for the tackle from kind of a shallow zone, it appeared by the way on that play that Rucker had a sack on a free run, but again, no whistle, they wanted to
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: let the play run for whatever reason and didn't credit rucker with the sack in real time.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: Then we saw the runback Henry run left with Burke down for five to seven yards.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: So Burke was somehow either pancake or slipped and went to the ground there, but Henry cleared the left edge for a decent gain.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: went to a new session.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: The running back Allen ran middle again, brought a Washington made the stop, brought a questions looked really good in terms of his run defense in the first two preseason games despite what the meme block from the center really lampkin looks like once again, you got to look at the full body of work and and
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: just doesn't tell a story at all.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's played very well this camp.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to be teams that are interested to get him.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I honestly think the Ravens if their depth holds up through this next game are going to be looking to move him.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the Ravens want to keep two of three of Benny
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: Peoples, I mean, they're going to keep people, so they have to get, they have to clear one spot.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then if a Coia is well, and if they, if they're going to do that, they're going to need a clear space.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: They, they may need to cut John Jenkins and Washington, but we'll see how that actually plays out.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: We saw then a Daniels to digs between the right hash rate numbers, Hawkins and Martin converged on the tackle that time.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, big play Hendrix and dipped past the left tackle.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: He had he had a sack.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: He was converged at the quarterback with.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: Trenton Simpson and Travis Jones, so really impressive kind of a jailbreak sack.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: Hendrickson would have had it on his own anyway, but the fact that those other two guys were there meant they won their matchups as well, so very positive played there for the Ravens.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Hamilton then tackled the runnyback rentals.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: This was interesting one because it was a very high tackle.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there aren't too many safeties in this league who can take on a running back who probably weighs, I don't know what anyways, but let's say weighs 210 pounds.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: And contact them high and be able to play with the sort of leverage necessary to kind of throw that guy to the ground and that's what happened on that plate.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: No gain on the play as far as I could see.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: And we've got to insight into more great Hamilton wrapping up there.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: And look like to me, they did not have actual tackling in this practice intentionally.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: There was some that occurred because people ran into people very hard, but they weren't trying to attack people.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, not trying to sack the quarterback or anything like that, but it looked to be on this play like Hamilton and outleveraged Reynolds with that very high take down.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, so next up we had Daniels flushed left by Hendricks and he again beat the left tackle outside for whatever reason he seemed to have, I think it was Coleman's number again and was doing a very good job getting by him.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels then through a running back, not sure who's zero plus five yards by the left sidelines, Starks made a tack on the nice downhill play by him.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: We had another fall start by Washington on the following play.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels rolled right from pressure.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: He threw high for the Widersy very Antonio Williams.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: That was about 15 yards down the right sideline.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: He then came back through digs.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, he's getting multiple chances for four down football here.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: As this
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: I assume the Washington can decide whoever they want is on the field here.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: I typically thought of the Ravens as exchanging every four or five plays as soon as they go through a series of downs or somebody feels to convert a first down, particularly when they're looking at.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: long, driver-lated drills, but for whatever reason Daniel's is still a field through all of this.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: And he then threw it digs for ten yards between the numbers and a left-hash.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: That ball was incomplete.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: He led him too much.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: Rivers was trailing.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't honestly think in that particular case that rivers,
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: forced the kind of the the overlead in this case.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was in a position to reach across the body and make a plan of football But it did have you know reasonably tight trailing coverage in that particular case
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then Daniels to yank off was 15 yards plus what if you're to be a TD on Yack now this play may have been blown dead or may have been listening to whistles on the other field.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: But they they do often blow plays dead and oftentimes skill position players will just continue running anyway and get the TD and not turn around and in particular when you have two fields going out at the same time you have the potential hearing somebody else's whistle.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: So you really don't want to be caught doing that.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: And anyway, good pass play there and a good yak opportunity and a might have been a TD or it might have been blown dead up prior to that.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: OK, we have another session of 11 on 11.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: I promise you, we have two, well, we've one more that's only the commanders.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: In this case, Simpson was in coverage of McCleuron five yards between the numbers in left-ash and he had a past offense.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: Another past from Daniels and Daniels went to McCleuron for five yards by the right sideline.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: Hawkins was closest in that case.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels was flushed by Tavius Robinson.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: There's that name again, who bold the right tack and by the way, vicious high leverage bull on the right tack.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even read the right tack on his number, but
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: you know, he had the right pad level and the right leverage, tall men in particular, and TV is certainly, is that need to maintain a very low angle to their back and a low level play, play as Campbell talks about all the time.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: In terms of that's what that's a difference between one, he's really playing great and when he's only playing good or when he's only, you know,
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: when he fails, even, is that he wants to stay as low as possible and drive and use that leverage, and Tavius seems to understand it.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: Colleagues certainly understand it, and the other guy who understands the Raven's defense is Kyle Hamilton.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that a lot last season, now he was sort of reminding me a lot of the year of Ted Hendrix being a guy who played, you know,
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: Extremely tall, six, seven, not particularly muscular, way to think of the top of about 235, so you can think about stretching out 235 pounds on a frame like that.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot there, but he played with terrific leverage and was a superstar in his day.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: because of it.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, and Hall of Famer.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: So, I know there are a lot of people frustrated with Joe Thomas era, but losing Ted Hendrix, trading him away, was one of the really big ones of that group that really hurt.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: And, uh,
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: Hendrix was a very much beloved Colts player who was here.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think it until set in the through the 73 season and the 74 season then They went for in 10.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's 73 if I recall correctly and then they went to in 12 the next year
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then the 75 year, the Bert Jones era really matured, and they had, you know, great year.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: They went ten and four.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: They lost a playoff game at Pittsburgh, but they were competitive in it for about three quarters, and they looked pretty damn good.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: Frankly, that year and a lot of people thought they were one of the really up-and-coming franchises.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: They had two more great years of that, but a lot of that started with Joe Thomas trading away the bulk of the old Colts team from
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: And there were, you know, a lot of blow-up players included United and Mackie and, you know, Hendrix obviously is in that group by the Smith, you know, they traded away just just everybody had it on a trades.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: He basically traded for draft capital in most of those cases and a lot of the, you know, the Stan White Lydel Mitchell Bert Jones era cults was built from some of that draft capital.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh,
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: Stan White not much of it because he was a 17th round draft pick.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, I digress.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: I really missed his old cold stays and I see leverage players.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: They remind me of Hendricks.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: So next we saw another fall start by Washington.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: Then a running back Allen again ran left.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: Rook on Smith made a tackle after about three to five yards, but that was a pursuit play.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: And Daniels to the Titan O'Cocco, the Maryland Titan for five plus ten yards.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: between the left numbers and left hash.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: Simpson was there and he went in for the strip and they didn't blow the whistle after that, like they're almost penalizing him for trying for the strip instead of the tackle, but he certainly could have had the tackle instead, it was just I think.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: is probably doing the right thing to try for a turnover in that situation anyway in a in a practice situation.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: And a game situation he'd have to decide if it was the appropriate thing, if by down in distance and game situation, if it were appropriate to go for the the strip as opposed to the tackle.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, I'm in very much in favor of players who take chances to make turnovers.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: And Marcus Peters was my favorite players, you know, six or seven
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: doing exactly that, that he was a guy who would take chances trying to cut the ball and didn't have to be right a particularly high percentage of the time for that to be a good gamble.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: So the expected payoff could be very high and oftentimes it met a pick six.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: So you probably remember the pick six he had his very first game against Wilson in Seattle that was his first pick of the year.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think he might have been about 14 touchdowns and no
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: Through a bad ball, Marcus Peters baited him into it and took it back to the house and the Ravens went on to win that football game.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, take chances for turnovers is generally a good rule and I hope the defense is going that now.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we saw Hartman get a chance at quarterback.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: We saw the running back rentals run middle again, didn't catch up capture yardage on that.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: They had a very hard stop at the running back Allen in the middle part of what I was a very physical day from a co-ay.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a little bit of a closest thing we had to a Tussle, I'd say, was after that play, because Henry was stopped.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: very hard on that play.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember if he actually went to the ground, kind of that's lost from my visual memory of it at this point, but it was a very physical tackle, our physical and stop.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: Then we saw people sack heartmen.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: He beat the right guard outside.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: Play was actually blown dead, which is nice, and full sack, given on that case.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: Then we saw Tampa come out of corner blitz and a sack and a whistle again.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: Now, heartmen continue through the ball out of bounds, but there's no doubt about that.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_00]: That was a second consecutive sack.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: And you're getting a sense, I think, from this, of just how much the Ravens defense dominated on field two.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: I feel very,
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: gratified, very grateful that I'd gone to field 2 instead of try to watch the Ravens offense on field 1, which I think had a lot of check down throws on it and more trouble moving the flip ball.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: uh... we saw heartman scramble middle for ten yards burped through an offensive holding on that place a nice play by youth in there to draw that heartman then uh... uh... through to titan kager who beat the luka crossing for uh... it probably was about between fifteen to twenty yards in total it was about ten yards between the ashes with the catch point then may have perhaps another five to ten yards after that in the luka uh... was was kind of trailing for that there was anybody else who stepped into uh... to get in position to make the tackle quickly
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: Teams then converge to a single field for the red zone at the end of the day.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the only time I really saw any of the more Jackson and walking over.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: I missed the first play here.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: But I did see Jackson complete a pass for Hill.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: Looked like about five plus five on the throw, five more in the act by the left side line.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: Then Jackson was under extreme pressure.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: He hit Hill by the right side line.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was behind the line of scrimmage, and there was about 10 yards of yak on it, but maybe about minus 5 plus 10.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: So we're not talking big players here, big place here, but they moved the ball a little bit.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then Jackson again under pressure through the ball into the end zone in the right corner of it.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see the defender, but the ball was intercepted, and the Washington sideline, what crazy in terms of that result on that play.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then they...
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: The commanders went back in for one more try at their end.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Daniel's ground the ball with pressure from Tavia's Robinson off the right side.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Tavia's having a big day.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: That Daniel's to the widers here digs for five yards between the numbers and the left hash.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: Morton made the tackle and that's so far so good.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: Daniel's through incomplete men's zone Starks was very close on that play to a diving interception Then they had a fall start as if they had not enough fall starts already for today and the Daniel's through to why to see her Antonio Williams
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: in the left corner, the end zone, 15 yards away.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: And what I would say about that play is Hawkins was trailing, but I'm not sure if there might not have been another coverage breakdown, because it looked like that entire side of the field just wasn't covered properly.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: Daniels effectively put the ball up in an open space, and William's was able to run under it for the touchdown.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: as a kind of a high-arking throw something we've seen in recent years, not probably have noticed it more from anybody else that from the LA quarterback Stafford, on someone who's first to Puka and Akua, that he really likes to just throw the ball up for an area.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't mind the very high-arking lob, and he trusts Akua to go get it, but they've certainly had some connections like that against the ravens in their couple games, including that 23 game in Baltimore.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what this one looked like.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that was the last play of practice.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: There was a field goal drill earlier.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: I was on the side where the commanders were kicking.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_00]: They have a kicker Stevens.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: He made a number of kicks and was able to move back the line.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think they did it in a way that was similar to the ravens that make it and you move it back kind of thing.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: I ended up trying a 60-yard field going, this wide left on that.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think he might have made all those other kicks.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a set of stars on offense for you.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: I do have a set of stars on defense.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: My number one goes to Tray Hendrixon who was just too quick for the left tackles he faced with his dip move.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: Tavius Robinson with multiple pressures, a very powerful bull rush leverage that I mentioned early.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: really have a great probably on more total plays, even than Hendrickson did, I think Hendrickson might add, you know, two or three sacks on this day.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then Kyle Hamilton for the interception in the end zone, then Ice High Tackle on the running back, the multiple elements of his game seem seem like they're encounter Jackson for the force fumble.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: I believe again that the commanders recovered it, but always nice to pry the j- pry the ball loose.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: At the podium, we had Jesse Minter, he said some interesting things said Lamar Jackson is seeing the vision in the new offense and understands it, coming along very well, some of that's coach speak, but when it goes to just speak about something about understand what the offense is trying to do, that's like going further than normal coach speak.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've been happy with Lamar's growth, he could just say that.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: Or, yeah, you can see, you know what's great about Lamar, he sees the vision in this offense, he's understanding what Declan is trying to call it, and what he's saying is closer that second thing.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: And you can see how that's, that creates rings less hollow than typical coach speak.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: I said they started out well on defense on both the past skeleton.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's talking about the one V1 things.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: They do two sets.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: They did the corners for swatter severs and did the ones I watched, which were running back some tight ends versus linebackers and safeties.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: So he said they did a good job on those and in teams.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: It may have been included by the way, the skeleton, including the past rust drills as well.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: But then they started well at least in teams, and I think that's how I call it too.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: They did give up a couple of plays in 11 on 11, but basically they were quite dominant.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: They way out played the Washington offense, I'm not in a position to say how the Ravens offense did relative to the Ravens or the Washington defense.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: I said, looking back on the offensive side, he saw a Henry had a couple of good runs and that their blitz recognition improved.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate you reporting on that side, Jesse, because I didn't see it at all.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: He said he thought the Ravens got good value out of the practice.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: He was asked about the biggest area of growth for the team since the beginning of the year.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: He said there's so many, but every young player has shown some improvement.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's just, it's a nice thing to say.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's a positive thing to say.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to have to cut a lot of these guys come Sunday.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, hopefully they get either interested in being back on the practice squad, which, you know, that's a sales job that the organization needs to do to say, hey, we don't want you initially, but we do want you on the practice squad and we want you to be one of our, you know, next, next man up, if anything happens to us in terms of injuries.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: And some players don't have, you know, an option, it's easy to keep them.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: But there are a few guys,
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna say about four out of 17 where you're not just trying to have a backup, but you actually believe the player has some long-term future that could help the team.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: So guy like from the, it's on the Ravens practice squad last year who fell in that category as more Chris Robinson.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: And they just aren't that many of those guys.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: And those guys win,
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: they stay on the practice squad for the entire year, tend to get taken at some point.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Vokolek might have been one of those guys.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's retired since, but Vokolek was taken as soon as teams started to trip.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: Other players could take in as soon as future deals are start to happen in December.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, there's a bunch of teams there out of it.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_00]: If you're the Arizona Cardinals, you're looking to scavenge what talent you can to go in the next year's 90-band roster and they'll start signing futures deals off the, you know, they'll get guys to come on from the practice squad to their team and then they'll, um, uh,
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know end up signing them to a deal for the next season.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: They'll be part of their plans there But they don't have the same Valuation of a roster spot that the Ravens do a roster spot.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens is still gonna have their significant value They need to be careful with it
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: Arizona Cardinals come December if it's a typical cardinal season, don't care at all about that roster spot.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: They may even like to have a less good player or a rookie that they're trying out there because of the benefits they would get in terms of draft capital from it.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: So different teams, different viewpoints of how they'd be at that point.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so the injury is as I am young as a fire is not serious.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: They should be back for a week one.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: Not sure if Balal Kone will play Friday.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: I actually think it may be more serious than that.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you're putting together a roster prediction of some sort, I think Balal Kone has a pretty good chance to start the season on IR and being a guy who is back at some point as a replacement for attrition that will occur.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens would have some, you have some optionality with that, and since they have additional corners, they'd like to keep on the roster.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: It seems very convenient, placed to stick Konei would be on a non-season ending IR.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: The reason they would not do that is that they probably have other guys on the defensive side of the ball in particular.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: They'd like to do that with.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: So in particular, in the defensive line, they have some guys who they'll lose if they don't get them on some sort of short-term IR, that could include Benny, Peoples, and Akoya, and they may even want to get a veteran there.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_00]: You may be like, brought a Washington, that may be where they want him to be back as a mid-season replacement.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: They're happy to start the season with a player, like Peoples say, as opposed to Washington, but then they want the option to bring Washington back.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, some of this has to be associated with real and I'll use that, you know, if air quotes injuries, but they have to, they have to at least get the players buy in that they really want to do that.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: He called out Colleys Campbell and Tray Hendrickson for making big plays on the defensive side of the field.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: He said, this is interesting.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: There may be a couple more guys who will sit out in the finale.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm guessing that the two guys he's thinking of, if he's really thinking of two, are Venga Yuanay and Mike Green.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think Mike Green should have been out there last game.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of outside linebackers to get a look at.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: They won't have Zion young for this game, so they a little bit short handed that outside linebacker position, but they really want to get a look at Rucker, Burke, and Adisa Isaac.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, you know, then playing as many snaps as they can would be a positive thing.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: So this last week, you know, it would be a minus two in terms of that outside line get like,
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: linebacker category, but they probably also would have a backup plan for moving, you know, a graves or probably a graves or a Wilson to outside if that or needed during the game against the commander.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they they'd have a backup and they really want to see what those three guys can do.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: He was asked about the 25-25-3 roster, and I noticed some other people already talking about this on Twitter is I'm going to make some money on this.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that he said exactly that he was going to go 25-25-3.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: What he said is there's a certain beauty to it with the required minimums at each position, but there may be wiggle room at the bottom of the roster for a couple of spots.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: as the ultimate and kind of wishy washy answers, but as Rebek asked the question originally and he said, you know, he said it's been a kind of a central tenet for the Ravens for years.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: I will say the guy who actually gets to decide or make the final decision the roster,
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's still the same guy who's made all these 25-25-3s, and the other guy who made all the 25-25-3s before him is his right hand man at the draft table and is still around the building as well.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_00]: Back to his day, he was sitting out on his chair, watching practice from up on the slope, you know, the building.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: Ozzy and EDC will have some they say about this, so even mentor, if he were to want to carry, say, one extra defensive linemen, I think it would have to work through them in terms of what the long term.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: goals the organization are in terms of keeping younger players and what not does it doesn't really make sense So it would be interesting to see how that goes In terms of how he goes from the game to then Building a roster after that he said he has to keep a mental risk of rankings by position group So make sense we're all doing it so why wouldn't he be doing it as well?
- 43:47[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar Jackson was next to the podium.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: He said he's ready for the radio season.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: He feels the offense plays better against competition when they don't know them intimately.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Makes all kinds of sense.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think we've heard that a number of times during camp, but we certainly would expect that to be the case.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: He says he believes they learned a lot through the tough defensive efforts of the Vikings and the commanders.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now we did see a really good game from the Vikings.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't at those joint practices, but that's the word as the Raven's offense really struggled.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: against the Vikings in those two practices.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: And the point was made by multiple people, both Jackson and mentor, that the Vikings and commanders have similar defenses.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't recall if they are from the same coaching tree or what it might be of enflores is the Vikings coach it.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't actually don't know who the defensive coordinator for the commanders is, but apparently they have similarities in skiing even if it's not the same coaching tree.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Mark was asked, how many rushing attempts, and I think this might have been James and Hans Lee asked me this question.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: He said, and he basically said, as many as it takes to win, but if you know last year I was hurt, so if I was running, I wouldn't have been helping the team, and I think it was James and again asked, so how many rushing attempts this year?
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: More or less kind of thing, and Andy said, as many as it takes to win.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: As I said, I answered that question stupid.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually that James is not stupid, but anyway, I just a funny answer and Mark didn't, was having none of it
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this was interesting.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: And so I want to read this question directly.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: This was from Jerry Coleman, exact quote here, you said earlier at the press conference that the game is slowed down for you here and are in your ninth year.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: Could you expand on that?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: What are you seeing that is maybe slow motion that you were not seeing early on?
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: Good question from Jerry.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: Defensive schemes.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just trying to beat the defense to the punch because sometimes we're playing against spot defenses.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: The guys get to spots and you have to throw in certain coverages within plays.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: I feel that has slowed down a lot for me.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: What that speaks to for me, and he may be talking about something else different, but is that he's really talking about more timing throws.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, anything regarding to a spot defense does not extend to the extended plays.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not a matter of, oh, yeah, we got to do that differently.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: Although that's interesting, and I think some of the things that they've said about that it'd be good.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is something that I believe speaks to timing throws, and so I'll be very
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: a timing in the Marscape, Deckham Doyle's of the podium yesterday made the point that they want to give Lamar clean first reads, and then not take away the ability for him to make extended plays where he's been the best quarterback in the game, you know, at that.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: All right, he said, now this came up earlier in camp, they talked about having conversations with Jesse Minter about how opposing defensive coordinators would plan to gain plan against Lamar.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: And the notion will be, if you understand how your opponent is thinking about you, then you'll have a better time in how to beat him too.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, those conversations have not yet occurred, and just have not found the time yet,
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: essentially complete.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_00]: Camp is essentially complete today from our perspective but there's a walk through tomorrow and then when they cut the 53 camp is definitely over which is going to be the practice is next week so could be as early as next week they'd be talking about having those conversations and it certainly has to be pretty soon because gate week one is of course coming up.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: So Jacoby Lane is an easy target with his size and hands and he compared him
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: That is high praise indeed, particularly Odale Beckham who reportedly Lamar cattle prodded the Ravens into overpaying for his one year in Baltimore.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: It is a extremely high praise for a rookie.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Lane has been remarkable in terms of his catch radius going back for the ball, but I mean, he said players like Isaiah likely who've had remarkable catch radius in the past.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: And he isn't gushed over them.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: in a way that's like this.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I think we are getting to a pretty clear point where Lane is going to have a very prominent role in this office.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, there was discussion of Bateman that I didn't record from the interviews, but you go back and listen to him.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_00]: Bateman's back on the field had apparently a good day on the offensive side, which I don't have that of for, but he praised him as well during those interviews.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: Tray Hendrickson was next to the podium.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: He said the defense is being built fundamentally.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: On the defensive line, they try to set edges and play with a physical edge, but they have not really cut loose yet.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: So building blocks, and we talk about the special teams, and you know, you have good individual reps, you could get off good individual reps, then you have good half field reps, then you have good full team reps, and then you play full team on full team at some point, and you get your best practice in,
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: a joy practice full team on full teams even better than that.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a it's a building up process and I think the way Hendrix and his putting it gives me good confidence that mentor is building something that's going to really give results that they're building a building it from
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: scratch fundamentals as opposed to installing something with a lot of baked in understanding of both purpose and responsibility that may not be appropriate for the young players involved in the defense.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: Hendrickson would be able to figure it out because he's been a leak forever, you know, class Campbell, so maybe they're all the Ravens veterans on defense, it doesn't even matter, you know, given how old they are, but yeah, I think that there are players on the defense, maybe my green is in that group a second year player who it does, it's not just going to all fit together, you have to explain to them the why and the fundamentals of Edinburgh for him to do that.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: he said that his leadership is by example he didn't want to make comparisons to physical shape in past seasons he just wants to be the best player can be now good answer there always a good coached answer and he said it's been fun
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: fun to overcome adversity this year and he's looking forward to season.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, the injury recovery has been apparently done something he's enjoyed in air quotes.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: He said that he likes going as Ronnie Stanley and Carson Vincent is not too much of a drop off.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's good to hear.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: He and Carson certainly had lots of talks after their reps this summer and spring.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: said, Mentor is eliminating mental errors.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that's different about Mentor's communication style.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_00]: So you appreciate that.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, Hendrickson doesn't have an experience with the hardball.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a knock-on-hardball quote.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's a, you know, what's he got to say about Mentor's communication style?
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: Mark Andrews was next to the podium.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: He, Mark had a extremely polished keynote as how to bake.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: So he'd badminton away any question and turn it around to, yeah, we just want to, you know, keep our heads down, next play, next game, et cetera, et cetera.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: Drug practices are great, though, especially for players that don't play in preseason games.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he's putting a value on that.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_00]: He praised the growth of the hybner and Quayless, what's he going to say?
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really unhappy about the growth both of
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: I certainly hope they're going to be a lot better in my opening day because I don't want to carry the whole load.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: You're never going to get that, obviously, out of any player, so he praised the growth of Paper and Poisoners.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, he praised Jackson for leadership and composure, which is one of the interesting things he said.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson's, you know,
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: personality wise, Lamar is kind of a goofy, funny guy and not necessarily a natural leader in the way a Joe Montana is entering the huddle or any number of other quarterbacks who know they know better than everyone else in that huddle.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: John United's, for example, you know, he's in charge of getting the huddle you better shut the hell up.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_00]: With with with the Lamar people he's a great leader because people want to follow And he's the quarterback and he's one of the greatest players ever to play the game those those things are all true But it's not because he has some great leadership style and and I thought Mark Anderson's kind of captured that with this quote But maybe a better off if you listen to the to the thing actually and it's out there of course Available and an interesting thing
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that's going to do it, like I say, the Super Bowl of practice, and I'm sorry, I don't have more for you on the offense, but that's where I am right now, looks like they did send me some things and maybe I'll put something out a little bit later tonight, Jonas and Nickyl, I really appreciate you supplementing what I got on the defense with some offensive notes.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'll talk to you later, other folks out there, use your film study, mailbag at gmail.com
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: will be recorded tomorrow at about five or six p.m.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_00]: Please get your questions or comments in for that.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: We've had some great mail bags recently on that show.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to hear more from you.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk to you next time on FilmStay.
