Excuses | Luke 14:17-20
An excuse is not always a reason.
Sometimes it is simply something we say to quiet our own conscience or to satisfy someone who is asking us to do what we already know we ought to do.
In Luke 14, the invitation had been given, the supper was ready, and the call went out: “Come; for all things are now ready.” Yet instead of responding, those who were invited began to make excuses.
One had bought a piece of ground.
Another had purchased oxen.
Another had married a wife.
The problem was not that these things were sinful. The problem was that they became convenient…
