- 2:17since day one, an interview with a man sitting at this dining room table.
- 2:23So the producer smart Mark Mark, we do an interview you. It
- 2:28all started one night You got nineteen three. Yeah, at Christmas ninety eight,
- 2:31when that nightro Ring came. We know that now. But we have
- 2:36a very special interview with the the other co hosts of the Major Pod today
- 2:43and that is John from Ringside Collectibles. John Say, Hello, John,
- 2:46Hey, everybody, it's an honor to be a guest on the major Wrestling
- 2:51figure podcast. I'm we've been hanging out here. We're drinking beers. I
- 2:54brought you the best beer on planet Earth. The beer that you was incredible.
- 2:59I kind of disagree with think John bought the best beer up on Earth.
- 3:01The bud light line. Can't go wrong with the b l L horrible.
- 3:07So we've been wanting to do this interview for a long long time.
- 3:12In full disclosure, we're not really interviews, but I think we have a
- 3:15lot of questions that we I'm pretty good. Sucks, but I can do
- 3:20it because you just have to listen this guy. Sometimes we do the guys
- 3:29next stage. I'm firing away and he's like, that's because he doesn't like
- 3:34to listen something. Sometimes I'm doing all the work and you're like not doing
- 3:38it. I thought exactly. He likes it to be about him, but
- 3:39it's not. He's like, turn any John. We've been a long time.
- 3:45I think, did you have anyone signals to them behind your back?
- 3:51Can I have them go help yourself? Anyway? John, We've known any
- 3:57a long time now, and uh, I think we have a pretty good
- 4:01understanding of your backstory, but like in full detail, we don't so I
- 4:04think, you know, it's very interesting and uh a grat I mean,
- 4:09people see rings at what it is now, and it's this epic company that
- 4:12you know, kind of has a stranglehold on the industry, but had very
- 4:16grass roots beginnings. Right, So let's take us back. How did this
- 4:20all come about? Absolutely? It started back when I was twelve years old
- 4:27in my parents' basement. I was doing I was a huge collector, and
- 4:30I was doing a lot of buying and selling on the AOL wrestling figure message
- 4:34boards. Really and what until what year is this? This was the early
- 4:41to mid nineties, so it was around like ninety two ninety three is when
- 4:45I first got into collecting and I was doing a lot of buy and selling
- 4:49on the message boards. Did that break? And I actually started my collecting
- 4:54with the Hasbro line? Okay? And I did you buy all Jans as
- 4:59a kid? You know what? I didn't even know the l jns existed
- 5:01when I started collecting the hasbrog Yeah, your dad was just a you're not
- 5:04much older than us, John, No. But but I think when I
- 5:08got into it, the Hasbro line was going full steam. Okay, So
- 5:13that's kind of what got me in. Yeah, like, I always remember
- 5:15l Jan's in my life, even going to the store and getting them ever
- 5:18since I was a baby. No, I think you were a fan earlier
- 5:21than I was. Okay, maybe that's it. Yeah, so yeah,
- 5:26so I was a huge Hasbro collector. And then when Hasbro lost the license,
- 5:31they started blowing out all these toys of KB for three for ten dollars,
- 5:35legendary, Yeah fronds that sale multiple times in here, Like I feel
- 5:41like, what had to be nationwide, right, I don't know if it
- 5:44was nationwide at that time. I know, I believe it's summer ninety five
- 5:47and you could just go and it'd be bins and I'll be honest, at
- 5:50the time, I didn't appreciate it because I already had everybody too, and
- 5:54I was getting guys like customize or like I would just yeah, you took
- 5:58it for granted. So back then I was on the message boards. I
- 6:01was on a lot of the internet boards, and I saw some of these
- 6:05Hasbros Selling for ten twenty thirty forty fifty dollars apiece time. At that time,
- 6:10the cab had for three for ten dollars. So I literally, man,
- 6:15I literally had my dad drive me to every cab that we could find
- 6:19on Long Island that had these, and I bought a ton of these hasbros.
- 6:24And I was I was lucky at the time that my dad supported me
- 6:27in this, and then he let me he let me use my quote barmits
- 6:29for money. Oh my god. And I had a decent amount of figures
- 6:32and then I started selling them. People had to mail me money orders.
- 6:35There was no seven eleven moneyers. Yeah, there was no eBay, there
- 6:41was no PayPal. It was very archaic, like people are literally mailing me
- 6:45money orders and that was the only way to do it. Wow. And
- 6:48it that's kind of how the whole business started. And then you realized there's
- 6:55something to almost flipping it just basic fig product. It's just there was so
- 7:01much because I did a lot of buying on the boards also, and there
- 7:05was just so much surplus of these three for ten dollars figures all over the
- 7:10place. And I said, Okay, everyone in the message boards want disease,
- 7:13let's let's you know, like some money. Yeah. Originally it was
- 7:16just to pay for my figures. Like I didn't even think of it as
- 7:20a business really, And it just kind of grew from there and then Jack's
- 7:27Pacific got the license right after Hasbro. And at that point I had a
- 7:32decent customer base and I met I met up with Jacks because how old.
- 7:39I'm about twelve or thirteen years old, So this is what So this is
- 7:45what happened. So I said, I had this good customer base, and
- 7:46obviously I want the Jacks figures to start selling to them. Also, like
- 7:51what I'm seeing my head, Yeah, this is like now you could be
- 7:54on like Shark tak Absolutely why did we not think of that? But like
- 8:03that's what this is, like the vision. But and to me, I
- 8:07think part of it also is when you're that young, like you're you're fearless.
- 8:11Basically you don't think of you. You don't think like, oh what
- 8:13am I? This is crazy? You know. Like so I Jacks was
- 8:18going to show off the new line at the New York Toy Fair and you
- 8:22have to be eighteen or over to get into the toy Fair. So this
- 8:24was a problem. So I literally I went with my dad to the toy
- 8:28Fair and we had to keep going from security guy to security guy till we
- 8:31found one that didn't care that I was, you know, twelve or thirteen
- 8:35years old. So that was the first time circle. And then I went
- 8:39into the New York Toy Fair and I met with Jacks and I got very
- 8:43lucky at the time that they were a brand new company and their their booth
- 8:46was probably the size of this table. Wow. And I said, Hey,
- 8:48I want to sell your toys on the internet. And they're like,
- 8:52they were so hungry for business because they're a brand new company. They're like,
- 8:54sure, go nuts if you're if you're gonna pass, it's fine.
- 8:58And I also got lucky that one of their sales guys kind of took a
- 9:01liking to me and helped me out. So because the founder of Jackson is
- 9:05a co founder of l j N. Correct, Yeah, the founder of
- 9:07Jackson founded l JN basically, and I'd never really dealt with him, you
- 9:13know, personally, but one of the sales guy that I dealt with also
- 9:16worked for l JN okay, so he like all, yeah, all of
- 9:20them kind of it was like basically a three person company at the time,
- 9:24and they were all like, okay, we're back, and all they had
- 9:28was the six figures from the Jacks WWF you know, series one, And
- 9:33when we did our Patreon exclusive the history of series one through three. We
- 9:37found an old message board where you were the first person to report that these
- 9:41are coming out. That's true, al nuts, is that we found the
- 9:46post. Yeah, it's insane. You were the first person to, like,
- 9:48you think that's spread the word. That's summer ninety six or spring ninety
- 9:52six. It was probably some time in wave ninety five or ninety six.
- 9:58Yeah, probably they came out in summer nineties. Probably maybe if Toy Fair
- 10:03ninety five something like my god, okay, and so how old were you
- 10:05that? I was around twelve or thirteen? Yeah, in ninety five.
- 10:09Yeah, so you were just like, you're doing this business and at twelve
- 10:13or thirteen, like I never even thought of doing anything. It was crazy
- 10:16because now thinking that back on it, it's crazy because I had you had
- 10:20to import the toys from China. Here's my other question, how or when
- 10:24did you decide, Hey, we're going to get these shipped by plane and
- 10:28not by boat? Was it right away? Oh? That's what's crossing my
- 10:31mind is like these came out the toys r US from day one. Yeah,
- 10:35So why did you think it? Like, how come no one even
- 10:39in twenty nineteen, No, one's thinking that. I'll tell you why,
- 10:41you have to be a maniac to do that. It's insanely expensive. And
- 10:46then you have these toys that you're competing with Toys r US and Walmart and
- 10:48every other store selling them for retail price, and you're adding an insane amount
- 10:54to the cost of the item. So you you would have to be insane
- 10:58to do it. And it's work because that's your business model and twenty years
- 11:01later, but I mean for a normal okay, for my business because we're
- 11:05so niche and specialized and because that's what we're known for. Now that it's
- 11:09worked, But for normal retail business it would it would be crazy because you're
- 11:15compete now, you're meeting with you, Amazon and everybody who's trying to sell
- 11:18it for next to nothing. I understand, like, okay, so when
- 11:20Elite sixty nine hits the shelves, you're competing with them, but right now
- 11:24you're beating them to market by months. Well think about it. I was
- 11:28like a hardcore collector. I didn't care what it costs. I want it
- 11:33as soon as possible, so the time is money. That's why I started
- 11:37doing that from day one, because you know, I thought it was worth
- 11:43the premium to get it first. And that's kind of what our you know,
- 11:46our businesses in terms of our first figure shipment that we get, we
- 11:50charge a premium so the hardcore collectors can get them first, and you know,
- 11:56it's it's really cater to the most diehard fans that that we have.
- 12:03So even back then, like things, just what, what's how far ahead
- 12:07before Series one Superstars on the shelves? Did you have it? I mean,
- 12:11it would vary, but it would generally be about a month before in
- 12:16most cases you get them in diet collector's hands. Yeah, because even you
- 12:22get them. Yeah, matel screwed on those retros. I don't know what's
- 12:31going on with Mitel right now, but yeah, generally it's about a month
- 12:35before. So it's it's the bone crunching era things. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:39spiral and just take off for you or so basically I was in middle school
- 12:46when I started, and it was running out of my parents' basement and then
- 12:50it kind of their pants when the cases of figures. Okay, my dad
- 12:54was my dad was supportive it, but my mom really like was not happy
- 13:00with all the figure boxes going through the living room. And yeah, she
- 13:03was not happy with it, but she was, you know, she let
- 13:05it go, So I was. I was thankful for that. So I
- 13:07was what kind of volume are we talked about? But I was another thing.
- 13:13Okay, I was very lucky. You look at jack right now.
- 13:16Sorry, I was very lucky with the fact. Speaking of Jack, I
- 13:20was very lucky with the fact that it was Jack's because if it was Mattel
- 13:24or Hasbro, they would not have wanted to deal with a twelve or thirteen
- 13:28year old. There's no way they wouldn't let me in the door. Just
- 13:31as you're talking, I'm thinking about you lucked out in that scenario that Jackson's
- 13:35company no one's ever heard of, and they like, let this all happen.
- 13:37But then like the attitude there hits in this boom and you're like the
- 13:41king of selling. You're like in ninth grade, right, But I mean
- 13:46a lot of cool timing things definitely lined up for you. But I think
- 13:50your fate, I saw it your fate. I mean, yeah, we're
- 13:54big in terms of the collector community, but if you look at the figure,
- 13:56the WW figure business as a whole, like you know what Walmart does
- 14:01or what Toys r US did, like that Dwarfs anything that we do,
- 14:03you know, so yeah, like just the timing and oh yeah, the
- 14:07timing, I know that you have the product. Yeah, I mean I
- 14:11from the beginning, I just said, okay, what would I want?
- 14:16And what I would want is I'd want to have the figures as soon as
- 14:18possible, and you know I was, I'd be willing to pay a premium
- 14:24for it. And that's that's what our customers want. So when did this
- 14:28evolve from like the message website? Right? Obviously, I mean I'm assuming
- 14:33God out of the basement, so hold on the volume in the basement.
- 14:37I need to know you're talking about that. What I'm saying one palette is
- 14:43that we're talking like a palette or are we talking multiple palets? If like
- 14:48the Bad Boys series came out, you know what, it would depend on
- 14:52how I felt about the set. If I thought it was a hot set,
- 14:56it would be a lot. If I thought it wasn't, it would
- 14:58be less. So it would really depend on and that's kind of still the
- 15:01way. Yeah, yeah, that's how we have to do it, because
- 15:05you know, we're catering to the most diehard people. You know, I'll
- 15:07never forget it. Was the summer of me going into seventh grade. So
- 15:13that's ninety seven. My parents finally got the Internet. I had my Compact
- 15:18Presario computer and all night like wasn't Google, I don't even know what it
- 15:22was, but I was searching for wrestling figures and I found Ringside Collectibles dot
- 15:26com and there were pictures of tag teams, managers, Superstars series five,
- 15:33I believe, and I was like, oh my god. Like I thought
- 15:37like because at that time this was also new. Now you get the pictures
- 15:43of the figures online like for this like all the time. Yeah, but
- 15:46then it didn't exist to me. It was it was it was brand new,
- 15:48so I didn't know, like, there's no way these are real,
- 15:52Like how do they have these? How were they making the Sultan? How
- 15:54are they making the head batteries? How do they have these pictures? Yeah,
- 15:56and it was Ringside Collectibles and I'm like, oh my god. And
- 16:00but think about it, I'm like a couple of years younger than you.
- 16:02I'm a little loser tech on the computer. You're selling these things, Well,
- 16:07this is how different. I even predating that. I have all the
- 16:11pamphlets from even before those series. I was very impressed. You have all
- 16:15of our mailing sailor flyers that we used to sell out. Yeah, and
- 16:18I'd bother my mom and dad to buy these things for me. I would
- 16:22save everything. I have them all still in the stack. I brought them
- 16:23to you a couple of years ago. Yeah, we used to the first
- 16:26one to have is bad Boys, Like a black and white flyer with the
- 16:30bad boys image is like going crazy. Yeah. I used to send out
- 16:33like flyers every few months in the mail to our mailing list, and like
- 16:38that's how we would market it because there was no email marketing. Really back
- 16:41then. There was no Vision website. It was before a website even.
- 16:45Yeah. So, but then at one point there was email marketing and that
- 16:48must have been a big deal. That was later years later, Yeah,
- 16:52but it was. The website probably came out a few years later and then
- 17:00ninety ninety two thousand. Yeah, the website was definitely there in ninety seven,
- 17:03was it not it that's how I found these figures. I mean it
- 17:06probably existed, but that was he's talking about when the source of the when
- 17:08the business was mostly websites. Yeah, I mean basically I had a good
- 17:14run too. From Mania. It was Mania sixteen, seventeen, eighteen nineteen,
- 17:22where I got a seat in the front row and I held up a
- 17:25Wrestling Figures dot Com sign and the site would crash every time I did.
- 17:29It's awesome. Yeah, that is an insane story. That's great. That's
- 17:33the best market. And if you look on the ww network you can see
- 17:37it. That's awesome. Yeah. And then by like Mania twenty twenty one,
- 17:41they figured out that they don't want dot Com signs in the crowd.
- 17:45Yeah it yeah, yeah, yeah, I never told this story on here.
- 17:49You used to sign contest, oh you, that's right. We used
- 17:53to have a contest where if you get a Wrestling Figures dot Com sign,
- 17:57Yeah, if you bring it Wrestling Figures dot Com sign to a raw or
- 18:02any any TV taping and get it on and get it on, improve it
- 18:04and prove it to you, you win a gift certificate. Yes, and
- 18:07Ryan one, I went to either a SmackDown a Raw at the Coliseum and
- 18:11I know, for some reason, I just remember the match. It was
- 18:14like a Edue Christian versus the Hardy Boys Terry Invitational match, but not obviously
- 18:18the latter one. And I held it up and I like, yeah,
- 18:22I don't know my mom or I wrote the email saying like, look you
- 18:23can see it here here and here I got like one hundredgus Yeah, that's
- 18:29one hundred dollars, and I have I have the like congratulations letter. Yeah,
- 18:33it was in all that stuff autography John Hell. Yeah, what's with
- 18:37the John Hell? By the way. Okay, so there's a backstory to
- 18:41this. So when I first started ringside, I was using my parents' home
- 18:45address for people to mail me money orders, and then people would start visiting
- 18:51my parents' house looking for figures because they thought that was like a real store.
- 18:55Right. Oh, So this happened like two to three times. So
- 18:59I said, okay, I got a I gotta find some way to get
- 19:00people to stop visiting my parents house. So I got a you know,
- 19:04one of those ups store boxes. And then I started using my middle name
- 19:08on top of that, which is how because I thought, okay, then
- 19:12really, no one's gonna be able to find out where my parents live.
- 19:17Yeah, so that's the whole origin for John Holl And then it just kind
- 19:19of stuck in terms of what I've used is my online name, Yeah,
- 19:26exactly. And it's wrestling. You have to have a gimmick name, right,
- 19:30I mean, come on, easier to say exactly. There was an
- 19:36article. People can look it up. Yeah, yeah, pretty cool that
- 19:40that was on Huffington Posts. There was an article a few years ago.
- 19:42Four years ago, I think that we spread that We're like, wait what
- 19:48and I'm gonna be on Zach's favorite show Toys that made us coming up,
- 19:55We'll get at that time if you didn't know, he's death staring, So
- 20:02I guess my question would be like, okay, so Attitude Era is picking
- 20:06up then like not only that, but the figures are coming out, so
- 20:10you're not just getting like Superstar Series one, right, And then a couple
- 20:12of months later another said, the session is coming and coming and coming and
- 20:15come in. How do you decide? Okay, you know what I'm just
- 20:19gonna do. I'm gonna turn this little like basement company into Okay, I'm
- 20:23gonna be full fledged, like I'm going for it. When did you decide
- 20:27that? So basically I was kind of running it when middle school in high
- 20:32school, and I had friends helping me, and it was you know,
- 20:37it was a hobby. I would say, hobby slash business. And then
- 20:41when I graduate, when I went to college. I had friends helped me
- 20:45also, and then when I graduated college is when it kind of I said,
- 20:51okay, I have to go balls the wall, see where this can
- 20:55go. What year is that? That's two thousand and three. Wow,
- 20:59Okay, when you went to college the whole thing was to be because I
- 21:03wasn't. It wasn't full time until two thousand and three. Like you're saying
- 21:07me, pretty impressed. That's a lot of things, dude, because I'm
- 21:10thinking, like, there's so many figures I ordered before that, and you're
- 21:12not fall the I mean I was. It was my life, definitely,
- 21:17But when something is your life when you're middle school, in high school and
- 21:19college just the kids, Yeah, so it's like then you have to I
- 21:23mean, I'm just impressed, is what I thank you think. I thought
- 21:26you were like this real business and you were a real business, but I
- 21:30didn't know you were a kid or someone three years older than me. Here's
- 21:33the question just bopped my mind. Have you ever had to have like any
- 21:37other job in your whole life or just selling wrestling figures? I did an
- 21:41internship and I've had his pizza. I did an internship with Disney Pictures marketing,
- 21:48when I was in college. It's the only other job I ever read
- 21:51where it was that that was like in the city. That was in Manhattan.
- 21:52Yeah. But here's the other crazy thing. I went to college in
- 21:55Boston and my business was running out of my parents' basement and my dad helped
- 22:00me out, and I had friends helping me out, and that was crazy.
- 22:03And like on the weekends, I would come back from Boston and like
- 22:07help get the orders done for the week. And I mean, that makes
- 22:11sense because at that time we order something, it's not like Amazon Prime where
- 22:15you get the next day, you know what I mean. Yeah, back
- 22:18then people were okay if you took like five days or a week to ship,
- 22:22like it wouldn't matter. Now people freak out if that happens, But
- 22:26back then it wasn't that unusual. So so what year do you go from
- 22:30your parents' basement to the first warehouse? Yeah? So the big big moment
- 22:34is when I graduate college and I have to decide, Okay, do I
- 22:37need to want to go balls to the wall with this or do something else?
- 22:40So wait, hold on. When you were in college, you did
- 22:41like business and stuff because you thought that you would run this business. Well,
- 22:45yeah, I mean, actually I almost was. I was like just
- 22:48baiting if I wanted to go to college at all, but my parents kind
- 22:52of talk me into it and they said they would help me run the business
- 22:55while I was in college. So yeah, I went for marketing and it'd
- 23:00actually I kind of I kind of in retrospect, I'm happy I went to
- 23:06college because I learned a lot about how to run a business, because of
- 23:11course you have to. Yeah, yeah, smart, Mark Sterling, you
- 23:14got to go to college. Absolutely, I graduated. Tommy Dreamer thinks we
- 23:21did, but we did that a couple of dropouts. Yeah. So when
- 23:25I graduated college, I got a warehouse and an office and that was essentially
- 23:30the birth of you know what it is today, I would say, And
- 23:34that was in linn Brook. That was in lin Brook. Yeah, that
- 23:37was our first word, Like that big moment like that, making that call,
- 23:41you know what? It was kind of like a natural progression for it,
- 23:47and it's it really Again, the timing was perfect because in two thousand
- 23:56and four, I believe, is when Jeremy Padouer took over the Jacks line.
- 24:00Jeremy, if you're listening, I want to lick your up. So
- 24:07when Jeremy took over the Jacks line and brought the Classic Superstars line to be
- 24:12that kind of blew up the collector market. Yeah, because you had all
- 24:18these classic guys that have never been done. There was no nostalgia in wrestling
- 24:22figures until that moment. Really. Yeah, And that was the exact moment
- 24:25that I was kind of growing the business. Fa Yeah, it was figure
- 24:29face. I had some crazy figure face. The fact that I'm sitting here
- 24:33right now with you guys is like mind blowing to me, Like that's insane
- 24:37figure faate. So I know it's pretty cool to sit with smart Mark Star.
- 24:41Yeah he's here after seeing those cabs on Christmas, I understand. So
- 24:45like, if if Jeremy didn't launch the Classic Superstars line at that moment,
- 24:49I don't think my business would be anywhere with that coolness and like hitness of
- 24:56like collecting, this wouldn't have been you know. I feel like he really
- 25:00brought the collectors into the ww figure line and that was and getting thing signed,
- 25:04because you have to remember that was right after the Attitude era, and
- 25:11like the line really needed that injection of something huge, and Jeremy gave it
- 25:17that. And before Jeremy, Like WWE never really monetized their legends. No,
- 25:22Like Jeremy is the Godfamily and now look at all the Legends products.
- 25:26It's insane that exists. And I Jeremy's responsible for a lot of that.
- 25:30Like we just talked about in that in the weekly purchases, I bought those
- 25:33little kids Warrior and Macho Man's. They weren't in the w family before Classic
- 25:40Superstars. You know what I'm saying. That's true zero zero. Yeah,
- 25:44So what Jeremy did, it was huge for the wrestling figure business. It
- 25:48was huge for the wrestling business. It was just incredible, and it really
- 25:52helped our business take off because it just brought collectors and droves to the law.
- 26:00So. I don't know if you remember this, but used to be
- 26:03I think it was you on Instant Messenger as Ringside fifteen. Yeah, so
- 26:07we I would talk to you a couple of times no way back. Yeah,
- 26:11I can't remember if I did, because I remember once we got signed.
- 26:15Yeah this you must knew it was me because I said like, hey,
- 26:18blah blah blah, I'm getting zo, Like I wanted a little deal
- 26:22ski on the Rocky figures that were covered and you gave you a little deal.
- 26:27Can I give you a deals keep good good for the Jack's rocky figure.
- 26:32That's awesome, smart marketing smart absolutely, Ringside fifteen on a well is
- 26:37the messenger? Absolutely? Wow. Here's what's sticking out in my mind.
- 26:40Yeah, when I graduated college, I rented an apartment from my mom for
- 26:45five hundred dollars a month with three other guys, and I remember freaking the
- 26:49peep out about the money I was spending. You just said when I graduated
- 26:53college, I got a warehouse. That's pretty bad. There's a couple of
- 27:03more things where I want to touch on Hurricane Sandy. You talk about that
- 27:08and what happened to ring. I don't think the public really knows like all
- 27:11that. Yeah, I don't think we publicized it that much. Yeah,
- 27:15but it's times fast. Yeah yeah, it's nothing left. Well, you
- 27:18moved from Limbrook to Freeport. Yeah, yeah, just keeps growing. Yeah,
- 27:21Yeah, you needed a bigger warehouse and yeah. So yeah, and
- 27:25Hurricane Sandy, we got like four to five feet of water, which was
- 27:27crazy, and it just you know, destroyed a lot of the packaging and
- 27:33stuff. So we basically, you know, the the toughest part for us.
- 27:37Was it took like nine to ten months for the insurance company to pay
- 27:42anything. So that was really the toughest period of time financially, Yeah,
- 27:47financially for the company. Yeah. But then you know, once we got
- 27:51over that, then we had all the what I think what like the wrestling
- 27:53figs boards went crazy over was all the loose figures we had. Yeah.
- 27:57We literally had a team of people like clean eating these figures to make sure
- 28:00they were fine, and we you know, we sanitize them and all that.
- 28:03Yeah. There Wow, just walking team like the school kids sitting there
- 28:10like uh liesole wiping down loose figures and then making a bit and like they
- 28:14would just be like we saw a giant of just Trent bread figures to the
- 28:18brim, you know, like whatever it was, Mark like just crazy because
- 28:22a lot of these figures had value loose for sure. And you know what's
- 28:26crossed my mind right now, I feel like maybe some of the secondary Mattel
- 28:30value might be due to you guys, you know, like you think so
- 28:33Card, a lot of that stuff isn't out there. I guess original Mattel
- 28:37legends on Card anymore because of that, And I'm sure a lot of stock,
- 28:41you know, I mean we just skipped about five years. There's so
- 28:44many questions that have in between that, and then we could talk forever double
- 28:47That's what the people want to know. Like, okay, a couple of
- 28:49things I want to know, Like so when Jack when you know Jacks is
- 28:52losing the license, what are you like, Oh my god? Like now
- 28:56we got deals with matel, I don't know anybody from Mattel, Like how
- 28:59do you build those relationships? How do you start that? Because with Jack's
- 29:03you guys had so many awesome exclusives, so you had such a cool relationship
- 29:07with a unique relationship with Jackson. So were you worried when Jack's lost a
- 29:11license? Like how far in advance did you know? And like, oh
- 29:14my god, now I have to deal with Mattel, Who's a big company
- 29:17who deals with like you know, not saying Jacks isn't, but they deal
- 29:18with hot wheels, you know, Barbie, They're like, you know,
- 29:22as legit as possible. What what was it like then? I mean,
- 29:26we didn't know they were losing license till everyone knew, so, which was
- 29:30a few years in advance, so we didn't we didn't really know what to
- 29:33expect and we kind of said, Okay, let's just get the most out
- 29:37of we can with Jack's in the last few years that we have, and
- 29:40we actually had a few exclusives with Jack's at the end that ended up not
- 29:42coming out. Really, can you disclose what those are? One of them
- 29:47was like an Undertaker three pack and I've seen something. Yeah. One of
- 29:51them was a Jericho with that Austin with like seven hundred belts that came out.
- 29:55Yeah, that came out Austin with a bit that was like the tribute
- 29:59to Stone Cold. I can't believe it. And then we had a Jericho
- 30:03with his like blue entrance vest from WrestleMania. Huh. Yeah. There's a
- 30:07few of the coolest things I loved or still love to this day is the
- 30:11ringside exclusives. I mean we talked about earlier the w W East, so
- 30:15like, not only did you make like the superstars, you mean guys that
- 30:19weren't usually in the line. I remember you guys made a val Venus,
- 30:22right, which is really cool. I mean, I'm sure I can't remember
- 30:26every exclusive you guys had the TAZ so many coolest things gold So I was
- 30:33gonna ask which ones are your favorites and and then b I was gonna ask,
- 30:36like what goes into even you know nowadays, like okay, we want
- 30:40to do a ringside exclusive. How does that work? How do you decide
- 30:42what we want? And how do you get that approved? Do they come
- 30:47to you? Do you go to them? How does that work? Or
- 30:48is a combination of both? I think well, back in the Jack Stays,
- 30:52I mean, I think we're different than any other customer that Jack's or
- 30:56Mattel has because, you know, Target Target buying a figure, it is
- 31:02not going to say this guy needs this attire from this pay per viewer.
- 31:06He's got to have he's got to have this paint detail and this and all
- 31:11the Walmarts and Target in America didn't say, Mattel, can you please make
- 31:14knockamore in these red pads? Target? You know what? Target? And
- 31:18Walmart fuck tooth and nail over that n X t RUSSEV Target Target one.
- 31:27So the good thing about the Jack the Jack Stays were unique because we could
- 31:32basically pitch something to Jeremy and if he thought it was a halfway decent idea,
- 31:36he would do it for us. So we like Jeremy is a collector,
- 31:42and it was he's making the soul he's well and also he's making the
- 31:48sol he's making he gets he's making the sole decision about what to make.
- 32:00So we would it basically was up to us in terms of what we wanted,
- 32:05and we would tell them, Hey, we want Taz in this attire
- 32:09with this body type, with this head, with this speaking of tas tell
- 32:15us about this disaster. Okay. So so first we were covered in I
- 32:21want to hear that first guy you made Valvenus with the Times a Sunday Night
- 32:23Heat Superstar, because which was amazing was because everybody wants a hammerhead, as
- 32:30I say, you need everybody for your figure in the gap between Valvenus releases.
- 32:36Oh my god. So it was like applause, bravo. But then
- 32:42we didn't really want the Taz and the matching Valvenus tows. Tell us what
- 32:45happened was that job? Okay? So our first shipment Classic Superstars Ring Cycles
- 32:51Exclusive Taz. Yeah, the first ship, yes, arrives and it has
- 32:55a towel around the waist just like a Valvenus figure because the factory in China
- 33:01just assumed the towel should be packed the same way Valvenus was packed because in
- 33:06China they don't know which is like ultra bad because with the black single top
- 33:10and that a dress dress. Right. And I had known from Jeremy previously
- 33:15that Taz was not happy with his ECW figure. Yeah, and he had
- 33:21made his opinion known to Jeremy and maybe he can get into more of that
- 33:24opinion at a later time. What's your reaction when you open up these cases
- 33:29of having known thousands that you committed to and they all have known how upset
- 33:36Taz was with Jeremy about the previous figure. I let Jeremy know about it,
- 33:40and Jeremy was nice enough to have them reproduce it. And what we
- 33:46did, he said, Okay, the ones that you have, you can't
- 33:50sell with the towel on it. You have to open them and take the
- 33:52towel off. So we basically sold them as damage package. And we took
- 33:57the towel off of each one. Wow. Yeah, there's a little uh
- 34:02ks on some of them because the towel left stains on the legs. Yeah,
- 34:07that is true. A lot of all of them though, yeah,
- 34:09not all of them. Yeah, a lot of the black cloth accessories,
- 34:14even from Jack's or Mattel For some reason. Mattel has fixed this more recently,
- 34:19but back in still I still don't even chance. I get so terrified,
- 34:22Like if I pack away a figure, I wrapped the whatever cloth thing
- 34:24and like a zip block. Yeah, put it in the zip bloc with
- 34:28the figure, because I'm so worried about the staining. Up until recent scarred
- 34:31from my jack's you know, upbringings, it would be a big complaint that
- 34:35we would get items with black cloth that they have stains. So how much
- 34:39of that have insanity have you dealt with through the years? But collectors about
- 34:44carding being damaged car or or you know figure errors that it's obviously on the
- 34:52distributors. Yeah, you know, part not yours. Like you're not making
- 34:54these figures in the factory, You're just getting them shipped there. So yeah,
- 34:58I mean, how much of that goes on? A difficult thing is
- 35:00when you know something is a mistake is made by the factory and then the
- 35:06customer's not happy. Yeah, you know, there's nothing, not much we
- 35:08can do about it because they're all like that I said we talked about before
- 35:12when we're off their Trevor in his office, Yeah, he has like wait
- 35:15a say one second, tell us about Trevor cut off, king bro.
- 35:20We need to know about Trevor. Absolutely, there's a great story about Trevor.
- 35:23Trevor has a like a raised shelf above his desk and it has all
- 35:29like the defective figures that customers have sent back over the years. I said's
- 35:31kind of like sids that you know that, Yeah, in toy story.
- 35:37So Trevor is an integral part of the company. He definitely is. He
- 35:40has a lot of stuff, So let's talk about him. Yeah. So
- 35:43basically, Trevor and I went to the same college and we met. We
- 35:51were in a class and we weren't we were really friends back then, and
- 35:54then we I was responsible for bringing Ultimate Warrior to a peer a college whoa
- 36:01pumped the brakes job it happened. What yep, you brought him? He
- 36:08did the ringside shoot interview, and he did ring side Fest, the first
- 36:13ever ring side Fest. Od I've done ringside Fest? Wow? Well it
- 36:19was the back to Trevor, back to the real star here. So Trevor
- 36:23didn't have a camera with his real name. Are you gonna that's okay?
- 36:27That's a real name. So back when Ultimate Warrior I brought him to appear
- 36:32at my college, and I took a picture of Trevor with Warrior because he
- 36:37didn't have a camera on him because you know, back in the day kids
- 36:40cell phones didn't have cameras. So I had the camera. I had the
- 36:45photo with him, and I got his email address to email in the photo,
- 36:52and then I really I had a class with him, but we weren't
- 36:54really like oh four, this is before oh three, because I graduated in
- 37:00two thousand and three, so it's how to be like wow, two thousand
- 37:02and two or two thousand and one, okay, so nuts. Yeah.
- 37:07So then when I was starting up ring you know, ringside at the warehouse
- 37:12after I graduated, I go to WWE dot com and I see that.
- 37:19I see Trevor's face on the front page of w W dot com. And
- 37:22Trevor won the WWE Fantasy Tournament. He was the winner. We need to
- 37:30buy that. This is figure fight. Also, this is figure Fate.
- 37:35So Trevor was on the front page of ww dot com and I was like,
- 37:38oh my god, I know Trevor. We were in college together.
- 37:43So I emailed him because I email addressed from the Ultimate Warrior photo. Oh
- 37:46my God. And it turns out he was living in New Jersey and he
- 37:51was looking for a job and that was Figure Fate. Wow, he's like
- 37:54right hand man, I mean he I mean, who better to like backbone
- 37:59rings, who better to figure to predict what is going to sell than somebody
- 38:04who won the w w E Fantasy. Yeah. So, and he's been
- 38:10working there ever since, ever since. Yeah, and he's incredible. I
- 38:14mean really he knows this stuff like he lives, eats, sleep, breathes
- 38:17like he's the manner of It's like figures but Ringside collectibles absolutely, and he
- 38:23designs all the special ring Side Collectibles accessories and stuff like that. Correct.
- 38:28Yeah, I mean we basically a lot of these some of these accessories that
- 38:32we've done are kind of his baby, and he goes into a lot of
- 38:35the design work with the factory, and you know, he's also integral in
- 38:39a lot of our exclusives as well. I think we can jump ahead and
- 38:43we'll go back track it for a little bit, but the major recipe or
- 38:47podcast figures and accessories like we did it, Like is that not figure face?
- 38:52Like we two kids who grew up a being wrestling nerves and turned out
- 38:58to be wrestlers, but figure fans are who bought from RECYC Collectibles now have
- 39:01Ringside Collectibles exclusive figures. Was that the first? Alse now edend Christian else
- 39:07know Aliso is the first exclusive? I think al Snow was the first.
- 39:12If you want to call it an exclusive. Yeah, it's signed, right.
- 39:15It was a little sticker that says, it's not like you just saw
- 39:17signed out Snow. Yeah we we We had him sign a certain amount and
- 39:21called it, you know, a limited edition that you signed. Yeah,
- 39:23exactly, just like our heroes, Edgind Christian. That's true. I cannot
- 39:28wait for all the major marks to uh to buy these figures. I can't
- 39:31wait till week and can buy them, get them in all collections. We
- 39:36debuted them a comic con or we're gonna debut them. But this is so
- 39:38weird doing these things in advance because we're going to debut them. By the
- 39:42time you're listening, we already did debut them. You know what I'm saying.
- 39:45But yeah, you explained it every time and everyone understands that. Every
- 39:47one understands makes sense. That's fine, but weird to you, it's not
- 39:51weird. It's a dream come true. So John thank you for that,
- 39:54because that's the more figure face. So thank you, no problem, thank
- 39:58you guys for the partnership. I'm just another figure. Fate is that I'm
- 40:02mind blowing that there are two w W superstars that are this hardcore and figure
- 40:07collective. I mean, I mean often what makes us working. It's very
- 40:10odd that. Yeah, that's just my glowing of each other. We're like
- 40:15twenty days apart in age, and like, yeah, a lot of if
- 40:20you sit in whatever, if you sit and think about it's a real crazy
- 40:23yeah, because I mean growing up, I could never have imagined that any
- 40:29w W superstar would care. Is there any you know, crazy ones that
- 40:31don't care? And we're gonna look up our past orders, like could you
- 40:36look at like an I don't know, I don't know. I don't know
- 40:39if I have that far back, I have to check the cardon. So
- 40:47uh so, like, what's what's going on with the business nowadays? Like,
- 40:53you know, to finish this off? You know, you guys are
- 40:58growing and and and all that, and with the MATEL deal and you guys
- 41:02still keep coming out with different with ringside exclusives and yeah, I don't know,
- 41:07I guess to finish this off, you know. Yeah, I mean
- 41:12we just did our first ever Mattel Elite two pack exclusive of the Broode Hardy's
- 41:16so that was hugeviews. Yeah, mitt All did an incredible jobs. So
- 41:21we've been working a long time on that, and we have a lot of
- 41:23big things planned for twenty twenty. So they kind of like quarterly. Can
- 41:29you count on that like four year or three or year or like it varies,
- 41:31right, I can't really put my finger on it. And you guys
- 41:35also have Ringside Fest, which was kind of like your mini comic con.
- 41:37Every fall we reveal new stuff, which is awesome. You always have ww
- 41:42superstars there signing. Yeah, I mean we kind of we had done conventions
- 41:46previously, and we thought, you know, there's not a lot of wrestling
- 41:51fans a lot of these conventions, so why don't we just do our own
- 41:53little promotional event. And it kind of just took off from there. And
- 41:58you know, the first one we have the Ultimate War You're At and that
- 42:01was four Yeah, and it's just kind of taken off from there and Jack
- 42:07supported it back in the day and they would show off all the new toys.
- 42:09And we've been lucky that Mattel has supported it and Sweaty Bill just kind
- 42:14of free trip to New York. Yeah. Bill loves showing off all the
- 42:16new toys there and interacting with the fans, and it's it's a fun event
- 42:21and it's a way for us to kind of meet our customers and our fans
- 42:25in person because normally we're buying a computer. Yeah, and I don't know
- 42:29if you guys realize this or even know this. Like you guys are everywhere,
- 42:34especially online, So when a figure comes out, Ringside Boom puts their
- 42:37their stamp on it and puts it up everywhere. The majority of the WW
- 42:40superstars who we talked to, they think Ringside Collectibles makes the figures, you
- 42:45know what I'm saying. They don't understand that's like a hotel, your social
- 42:51media presence and stuff like following that they think they're so ahead of the curve,
- 42:54so on top of things that the WW superstars they think it's Bringsy Collectible
- 43:00who's making these figures. It's crazy, It's nuts. Social media is it's
- 43:06a compliment. Like you guys are so on top of everything. You guys
- 43:08are so synonymous with Mattel and so and with wrestling figures or even like the
- 43:13YouTube channel that's went up for years and years now, Like there's a lot
- 43:15of times I have to like reference something like or like an accessorieson my be
- 43:19I'm like, who did this come with? And I'll have to like use
- 43:22your YouTube stuff and those figure reviews to like figure it out, or like
- 43:24oh did this come with this? Whatever? Bring wiet figure and I'm like
- 43:28organizing my crap and I could figure it out, but using a great reference
- 43:30tool. And also there's wrestling things even before then. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:34oh god, wrestling boards. We can talk all day about that. You
- 43:38a vendor on there. I didn't go as nuts as you point. I
- 43:44wanted to be a mod like that was one last question. Personal question.
- 43:51I kind of don't even really know the answer to this because in your office
- 43:54you kind of have things all over the place, like on display and the
- 43:58things that you have up. I know you're a big Japanese wrestling fan,
- 44:01but what do you ques, like, what do you have over the years,
- 44:07what have you held on to, like what is in your actual personal
- 44:10collection? I mean I basically have to pick and choose at this point because
- 44:15otherwise it would just get out of control. So yeah, I mean my
- 44:20personal collection, I have every Habsborough m oc okay one of each, like
- 44:28some I have multiples of something I have been going through some of a ringside.
- 44:30You have like multiples of that Brett Hart with the purple heart that I
- 44:34need and you still need it multiple it's just min on card, multiple multiples.
- 44:37How do you tell the difference between the mellow ay and you don't?
- 44:39It's the same thing, Okay. The only way there's a bred heart meloe.
- 44:51You don't know if it's in the bag. If it's not in the
- 44:53bag, it's not the mellow my opinion, there's no way if you're a
- 44:58loose collector. Nope, nope, nop. So I have one of my
- 45:06holy girls in my collection, is the elite one. Jeff Hardy held and
- 45:12inspected this in the office. It's pretty cool. Yeah, So it never
- 45:15came out. It never came out, and they made a few samples of
- 45:21them and then they don't. I don't know what happened to the sample the
- 45:24rest of the samples, but they was gonna warehouse somewhere with the King Harley
- 45:28Race distribution problems. So did that come into sample case before that series came
- 45:37to the ringside. No, an ex Mintel employee gave it to me.
- 45:43BI is just Bill set. Those head bones are punched his windows. Bill
- 45:50would never give that to me. No, never, but he's mad that
- 45:52you disclosed that. And I hope he has one that I wanted so barely
- 45:55had the retro zach reda prototype? Did an he give it to you?
- 46:00Listen to this, John Cena, Mister John Cena went to Comic Con last
- 46:05year, went to the Mitel booth special for me to request that I get
- 46:08that prototype. They said, of course, mister Sina, we'll give it
- 46:12to him. They never did what Bill, I don't know if it was
- 46:16Bill, Bill, I don't know what next show. I just want to
- 46:21say Bill led to Sina hustle loyalty collect. One of my other holy grails
- 46:27is The Family Divided Jack Specific, which is a huge box set of all
- 46:32the McMahon's, including Linda, that was never released. It has uh triple
- 46:38h and yeah, it's it's incredible. It's you have what I would describe
- 46:45as jaw dropping autographed min on card Hasbro's in his office right. I have
- 46:52undertakers like just stuff like you wouldn't believe. That's one of my favorite pieces.
- 46:58I've a signed Owen and Go It's so cool. Yeah, that King
- 47:01of Hearts and he signed in the King of Heart States didn't do that back.
- 47:06Yeah, certain for you to have those, it's like crazy, you
- 47:08know now, Yeah, but not people are obviously deceased and whatever. But
- 47:12unbelievable. Yeah. I have a bunch of Hasbro signed That was I was
- 47:16big into getting the Hasbro signed in the nineties. So how how far off
- 47:22do you think you are of like completing that. I'm very far off really.
- 47:25Yeah. You had a lot of Green Cards signed, a Green Cards
- 47:29signed. Yeah, but I oh my god. Do you take one of
- 47:34each shrinks exclusive for like a sentimental I do. I think I have one
- 47:37of each ring side exclusive, and sometimes I like in terms of like the
- 47:45Elite line, I'll take certain guys that I want to have in my collection.
- 47:52It's just it just I have to pick and choose because it otherwise they
- 47:54just take up too much room. And I think we're all at that point
- 47:57except Bro has no filter. But wow, it's crazy. I mean you
- 48:04you are literally living the dream, just a fan who collected wrestling figures,
- 48:08and you revolutionize the figure business. Whether you want to admit it or not.
- 48:12You know, I think those way beyond action figures, it's like the
- 48:15American dream type stuff. Appreciate way beyond, but like you, you literally
- 48:20changed the figure business. I mean, and there's been so many companies that
- 48:22have tried to compete with Ringside and they they all cool gifts. They're dead.
- 48:29You killed. I haven't even thought about it, right right, remember
- 48:31all cool gifts. And they tried creeping up, you know, they tried
- 48:36to attack them behind you turned around, you gave them the double bill figure
- 48:38of the sunner, you know, because they're done, you know, like
- 48:42you are the number one. There's no yeah, I mean there's no.
- 48:46And the thing is, if there's a number two, it's like see you
- 48:51later. It's like all the way down They're like, you guys are killing
- 48:54absolutely. I mean it's it's a tough business, you know it really,
- 49:00it really is. And this is not family, all right. Thank you
- 49:07very much, Thank you very much for ben Thank you, thank you guys
- 49:12for having me. This is an honor to be on your podcast, and
- 49:15thank you guys for your friendship over thank you all these years, and I'm
- 49:22just so thankful that you guys are doing this podcast and that you guys are
- 49:27so passionate about the toys. I mean, it's it's awesome. Incarnation of
- 49:32Domination. The Incarnation of Domination is a weekly segment where we choose a superstar
- 49:38and we discuss our favorite versions of that superstar. Each week we try to
- 49:43stop each other and this week, Brian, it's my turn to stop.
- 49:50What do you got for me? So we did this a couple of weeks
- 49:52ago where I didn't choose an actual person per se, but I choose I
- 49:59chose a no bluetooth the line, the whole line, I chose to stop
- 50:04line. Yeah. Today I'm gonna choose the retros. Who is your favorite?
- 50:10Tell me Lie, Well, it's definitely not the Shawn Michaels, Chris
- 50:15Masers. Uh wow. And you know what I think? Can we do
- 50:19the top five? Top five? Top five retros? Now? Now full
- 50:23disclosure, I think the bonus episode for next month on Patreon should be the
- 50:29history of the Retros Too soon, brother, I want to hype this up.
- 50:34Man. Possibly, well, we'll put a pull up on that.
- 50:37I wouldn't I won't commit to that. Let's do top five Mattel retros.
- 50:43Well, Diesel's number one is that umber one? Done done deal Diesel number
- 50:47one? Other ones that I loved who I love the Scena Sena is good.
- 50:55He's doing the attitude adjustment iconic. So I would say, so Hogan
- 51:00one s right, but of like our generation? Yes, yeah, I
- 51:04agree. Put that scene one there. Okay. I love Triple H and
- 51:12Jumper. I know I'm not I know because I love Jumpers and I even
- 51:15mentioned it earlier in this episode. We were at summer time ninety eight Highway
- 51:20to Hell. He wore those trunks. It's become like iconic and several incarnations
- 51:25of action figures. Now, well, he could be on your list.
- 51:28He's not on mind. I understand. I'm just satt Let you know,
- 51:30like that would just be sentimental to me, like forever you can pat Triple
- 51:32H. I'm gonna pick Zach Ryder. I hate that figure, Okay,
- 51:37Well, I mean, am I in love with the actual like decko of
- 51:40it? Absolutely not? Why was it not bearded? Modern day? Everyone's
- 51:45modern day? I guess Bray and Danny Bryant are in the same brown as
- 51:50yours. I would have design it. I would have done either bearded trunks,
- 51:52modern day or one legged ecw woo woo. I would have just went
- 51:58straight up WrestleMania, a icy title when you know what, guys, beggars
- 52:01can't be choosers, of course, But I'm just saying, if it was
- 52:06me, there was reason, based on television time, I deserved a retro.
- 52:08But I'm saying this out loud. You Bray and Danny Ryan are the
- 52:14only guys who are modern day guys that had like weird older, older versions
- 52:19of yourself come out. It's a weird category. I have. Mine come
- 52:22out was literally a dream come true. You're just trying to rub it rub
- 52:25it in and I'm never going to get one. Right now? Did you
- 52:30design an entire segment to just remind me that I'm never going to get a
- 52:34retro? Maself? So my number three is Zach Ryder gold Dust. I
- 52:38think that's to be on my list. This is my four removable wig.
- 52:42Don't have to use my vendoms, Goldust, don't have to use my misapperfect
- 52:45yellow. Finally, after all these years, Uh, they're so plain.
- 52:52But I love jy D and Chic. I have to say my five and
- 52:59you're gonna think I'm because I am not a current collector. But I think
- 53:04the Roman reigns with the Jake. The snake punch is to me so rare.
- 53:09That to me is has Bro. That's retro. That's I mean,
- 53:15now it's pointless to say this, but like it's weird that I understand he
- 53:19was his own unique mold. But why more guys didn't have that action feature
- 53:22is a little kobookish. I don't know. So that's my five. I
- 53:27mean, it's also going to be the Green Trunks Macho Green Trunks MACHOs on
- 53:30my list. I think he's your five. Is it a Roman? Yeah,
- 53:34that's fine. Cool. So that's the incarnation of Domination and Mark who
- 53:37won the Gemmer Sweepstakes. Hey, guys, this week's Gemmer winner is I
- 53:44Dot fought Dot a dot lion. I fought a lion? You win?
- 53:50Also, I think I mentioned on one of the sort of bonus episodes we
- 53:54did, but I recently start to a new collection. I'm collecting Elites from
- 54:02ninety seven to ninety nine, and I've been using Gemmer actually to sort of
- 54:07plan out which figures I'm getting, Like which stone Cold am I getting?
- 54:10Which rock am I getting? Which Triple H things like that. So Jemmer.
- 54:17It's great and next up is the WTF figure of the week. What's

- 55:22it a little close to home. Well, it will, but this was
- 55:25decided in our Patreon group. Yes and the winner of this first of all
- 55:30go to Patreon dot com slash Major f Pod to be in our Facebook group.
- 55:34So much goes on in there. I actually had a suggestion, but
- 55:37you had already made this, so I guess I'll have to save mine.
- 55:40This guy is going to wear that. In my notes for next week,
- 55:44this guy will win a SDCC exclusive major podpin aj Blair with his his nominee,
- 55:52the bone Crunching Buddy hbk uh So, all right, where are we
- 55:58agin with these? These are Jack's bone crunching buddies right now? They in
- 56:02nineteen ninety eight. Yes, we all love wrestling buddies to takas, and
- 56:07we're thinking we're gonna get these like similar like this. I'm thinking we're the
- 56:10same size with bone crunching. Whenever we don't get those, I'm like,
- 56:15why why why are we trying to reinvent the wheel? Like if it ain't
- 56:20broke, don't fix fix it. But this is man Jacks. How many
- 56:23times did Jackson do this? Hotel and hotel? Yeah, this is wild.
- 56:28I don't get it, a buddy. It was made once the first
- 56:31time they was it right in nineteen ninety and you never had to do it
- 56:36again. Like you're good to go. But there's been so many horrible plush
- 56:40wrestling these things buddies were up there. These are just like they're I guess
- 56:45their sizes of them is cool, but they're they're all so ugly and especially
- 56:50sewn its way too small. I got you can't wrestle with the bit like
- 56:54big and these these big they're there. I was the less than half the
- 56:58size of a talk. I want to all these peg warmers because but they're
- 57:01not obviously they're too big to go on pegs. But they were shelf warmers
- 57:06back back in that ison era. I don't remember. Oh, brother,
- 57:08these are just always there, always now, to be fair, they improved
- 57:14after series two, got a little better. Yeah. Oh, anyway,
- 57:17so I was saying, this is close to home because you currently own how
- 57:22many of these? One of each? Guy? Unreal? And where are
- 57:24they upstairs? And there by the way, folks. Oh baby, it's
- 57:30been a it's been a busy couple of months. Honestly, since WrestleMania.
- 57:35We've been booked on every single WW event and we have not been home a
- 57:38lot. But and I complained an awful lot on here when I was doing
- 57:44my home improvements and stuff, and my house was a little wreck, nothing
- 57:50in comparison to what's going on. Right now here, and the cat Cat
- 57:52Daddy's dead, his playroom is porderline destroyed. Uh needs weeks and weeks organizing.
- 58:06Let's not even get into the garage. And then and he showed me
- 58:08that I'm already blown away. And then before he left for the show,
- 58:10before he peeked open the garage door, and I went, oh my god,
- 58:15Oh my god, I don't know what you're gonna do. Yeah,
- 58:20So I have one of each guy. They have like nice heads. The
- 58:22heads look pretty good. The Austin is a little Kobookiah goofy goofy heads.
- 58:25The Sewan he's got the Zebra Taker's pretty crappy. These are terrible, dude,
- 58:30I think what dude loves the best one and led two thousand. The
- 58:35later Austin's are kind of cool. So I had like the acid washed jeans
- 58:38and so like. I had these as a kid, sold and obviously in
- 58:44classic Mat Cordona style, Sam Roberts would love this. I rebought them recently,
- 58:49I can confess to when I was a kid, I had every single
- 58:52one of these so and probably sold them in nine when the license in got
- 59:00rhy of them. So I bought these. God, that's embarrassing to say
- 59:04I bought the min in box. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect
- 59:06and want like some kids played with one. But I forgot to realize,
- 59:09like these, you're able to test these out in the stores. So a
- 59:13lot of my bone crunchings was broke because I'm sure they were like broken in
- 59:16the stores from people kids just touching them all the time. I'm telling you,
- 59:21my recollection of these are just sitting on shelves because they were not desirable.
- 59:24They looked stupid and Kane, yeah led two thousand, but they were
- 59:30just they looked so ugly they just sat there. It's like because he went
- 59:34I guess in that era, Jack's was a big against like uh just like
- 59:38naked Chess. So like Sean has like a vest and later Rock has a
- 59:43vest. Yes everyone has a vet, but Sean definitely a crap figure.
- 59:50If Jack's just made regular but Tanka style, buddies would be just gushing over
- 59:54these, and Sean had already left it be you know that too. So
- 1:00:01there was a lot of and now I get it because you know, you
- 1:00:06learn later that w W was paying them a lot of money just to stick
- 1:00:09around, but he wasn't on television, so he had a lot of merchandise,
- 1:00:13especially Jack's merchandise that whole time he was out. I love hate these
- 1:00:16figures, like I said, I have them all, but like I could
- 1:00:20see if you think of like classic Taca buddies, like oh, you have
- 1:00:22the Jacks buddies, you had the bone crunching buddies, and then you show
- 1:00:25them they'd be like what the like Yeah no thanks? So uh, congratulations
- 1:00:30to our winner who nominated that. That's a J. Blair. You'll be
- 1:00:35getting a Sandio Comic Con exclusive pin uh. And next up is the Q

- 1:02:06When I tried blue Choose, my partner was so satisfied that she said,
- 1:02:09blue Chew Chew chew. You know, well, I thought I was gonna
- 1:02:19get a j R D with our hawkin. The writer reveals a comic god,
- 1:02:22But that thing happens and needs a baie. All right, I actually
- 1:02:28have two questions this week, and I'm gonna send this guy, Brian Chairs
- 1:02:32at Brian J. Chairs. I'll send him something for myself for this.
- 1:02:38This doesn't count, but I'm gonna get this on the air in honor of
- 1:02:43at the cart Hawkins New Original at Original Funko Pop Collection. Can you at
- 1:02:49Zach Ryder named ten baseball players, any team, any era hashtag? Ask
- 1:02:54major pod pen ever, Penn Bank, some players in the history of the
- 1:03:00sport. That's all we're asking here. All right, here's my hands.
- 1:03:06I'm ready to count. Don Mattingly one, Nolan Ryan two, Mark McGuire,
- 1:03:12Bobby Really, Barry Bonds. We're away there, Uh, Bo Jackson,
- 1:03:22Holy six, Babe, Ruth. Did I say Kevy Jr? You
- 1:03:25did not? I didn't even know that last one Cal Jr. Wow,
- 1:03:34Oh I'm blown away. I did it to Yeah, I send you some
- 1:03:38of the There was some completely bulls answers and that all thing. What do
- 1:03:45you need, Bo Jackson? I mean he played your sports. Yeah.
- 1:03:51I can't believe you knew that too. You probably know that in the video
- 1:03:53game or whatever when you're a kid. I collected sports cards in the early
- 1:03:57night when it was like a bad Some BS answers to that I did.
- 1:04:04I knew that would be fun though. Anyway, My actual question this week
- 1:04:09comes from Chris Sullivan at Chris Sully five eight zero hashtag ask major pod.
- 1:04:15When it comes to later ECW series, how common was it to have old
- 1:04:19packaging? I got a Series three RBD on a Series one card and found
- 1:04:25a yellow shirt Dreamer on a yellow card. I'm so I'm basically using this
- 1:04:30to promote our ACW stuff. He sent me this question, I said,
- 1:04:33can you listen to our ECW episode? We answered all this then Chris here
- 1:04:38knows, but this is covered on our ACW episode. A commistake plus sake,
- 1:04:44what good? A little plugski, a little plugs and a mistake that
- 1:04:47Matthew made just a couple of weeks ago. You text me, oh my
- 1:04:50god, do you have this? I said, dude. Series three,
- 1:04:54which I unofficially you know is referred to as Series three, was a Target
- 1:04:59exclusive and it was all figures that eventually came out in the later series on
- 1:05:04that original carding except new Jack, who's in like a purplish blue shirt.
- 1:05:10Everyone else was released in another way a La r D in the black singlet,
- 1:05:14but he's on that series one card so or yellow Shirt Dreamer that eventually
- 1:05:17came out in the throw Zone line. So for more detail, please listen
- 1:05:24to our in depth history of original San Francisco toy makers ZCW figures. And
- 1:05:29eventually, when we get this subscriber amount we want you can visually see my
- 1:05:33entire autographed collection and h not the first guy, but everyone, the guy
- 1:05:39you just read and the next guy, they'll be getting a epy ten the
- 1:05:42best wishes, a San Diego comic con pin and a stopping Pariz koozie for
- 1:05:46asking the question. Ask major Pod on our Twitter Oh baby peace letters here
- 1:05:51we say, oh by. My question is from at we gotta bring Heath
- 1:05:55a coozie tomorrow, Oh big return. My question from at Brett G nineteen.
- 1:06:01Uh. Super seven now has the NJPW license. If you could fantasy
- 1:06:06book WCW WW or ECW in the reaction line, assuming it's for figures,
- 1:06:13who would be in your first way for each brand? Now we met up
- 1:06:18a Super seven I comic God couldn't have been cooler, cool company, cool
- 1:06:23product hip. They're making new Japan figures yeah, and we broke it down
- 1:06:28on YouTube. You can watch a video. Dude. While you're reading that
- 1:06:33question, I was just thinking if there was EZW Super seven like reaction,
- 1:06:39God, oh my god, I'll jump to this glass window behind me,
- 1:06:43like jump in your pool and excitement, you know what I mean, Like,
- 1:06:45forget about it. Go on our YouTube channel. I've already unboxed the
- 1:06:48Rocky four Super Seven's. I love reaction. If you don't know what reaction
- 1:06:51are. They look like figures that should have come out in the eighties.
- 1:06:55Is like z I shouldn't say zero articulation, its five points of articulation.
- 1:07:00They're made to be very basic, but look retro charding is where it's cool.
- 1:07:03Yeah, to look vintage and retro. It actually says on the package
- 1:07:09of not like a toy, not to be opened, which is very cool.
- 1:07:11So I thought this obviously, and I want you to. I'll give
- 1:07:15you my answers and you tell me what you think. What's a set?
- 1:07:16Six guys? Four guys? He said? Four guys. Okay, Now,
- 1:07:20damn. If I was building this toy line, and I'm not,
- 1:07:25but I would build a line for longevity. You don't want to just build
- 1:07:30a one and done. You want to continue? Okay, so hear me
- 1:07:33out on this, So what are you gonna do? Like so hear me
- 1:07:35out Disco Inferno? No like that margin, I would kind of listen.
- 1:07:41So I would do WWE like this old school. I would do Macho Warrior,
- 1:07:46Andre and Uh and Hogan, okay, right like eighties nineties. But
- 1:07:53then I would flip the script and for w CW go Attitude era and go
- 1:07:58Hollywood Hogan, crow Sting, Hall and Ash. Because then for series two
- 1:08:02you'd flip flop it and you'd go early WCW nineties and add a strategy.
- 1:08:08Strategy. Yeah, but what do you do for c W? I would
- 1:08:11do this. I'm going to steal what's exactly on our extremely Majored, extremely
- 1:08:16majored. It's extremely major inspired shirt. I would do Dreamer, Taz Saboo
- 1:08:23and Nu Jack keep RBD. For series two, I'd have the same lineup,
- 1:08:27no new Jack. I'd do Shane Douglas and I do a long the
- 1:08:29first ever long haired Shane Douglas figure. I man, I would when I
- 1:08:38see that packaging, I don't see crossting, I see surface sting, like
- 1:08:42I would want to go that route almost like a glue esque sure sting Man
- 1:08:47Man, maybe yeah, sting Flare, maybe the fourteen inch lineup, that
- 1:08:54exact lineup, Luger. Luger said, and ww that would be my series
- 1:08:59two. I think I would go like I wouldn't even count worried to go
- 1:09:02even like early eighties and mid eighties like Hogan short hair, Piper, Oh
- 1:09:12man, this is tough, like maybe like afro Andre Oh wow, chic
- 1:09:18and like chic or wonderful wow right, like deep because they're supposed to be
- 1:09:27so old. You know, I respect that. That's a cool question,
- 1:09:30and it's got me half h A R D just thinking about it. I
- 1:09:33mean, obviously it's not a real possibility at the moment to reading of those

- 1:10:05and Pops guy. Matthew marked out so hard to hang out with Smart Mark
- 1:10:13for a week that he now drinks IPA's only and spend one hundred and sixty
- 1:10:17dollars to have Stone call Steve Boston IPA ship to his home. Oh yeah,
- 1:10:24Holy moly, was that not a jam packed episode of I mean,
- 1:10:30I feel like I say this every time. I'm like beating a dead horse
- 1:10:33here. But I mean, the fact of the matter is, you already
- 1:10:36know when you're listening to the Major rewind, you're gonna get a quality retrospective
- 1:10:41look at the Major Pod. That's there's no lie about that, you know.
- 1:10:45And we're keeping it moving, We're keeping it rolling. The waves are
- 1:10:49flowing as we're sailing. Before you know it, it's gonna be here live
- 1:10:56twenty from Callowns. This is one of the most iconic shows. Uh,
- 1:11:02this is gonna be what, There's no question about it. This is gonna
- 1:11:04be uh the biggest major pod party of the summer. You don't want to
- 1:11:12miss it. Philly was probably one of the most extreme live shows we've ever
- 1:11:17done. You know, the tin roof one was probably one of the biggest
- 1:11:23shows we've ever This is the biggest one of the summer, The biggest major
- 1:11:27pod party of the summer goes down August tenth. And yeah, man,
- 1:11:36you see, when I was a young lad, I had a jackass and
- 1:11:41I loved that jackass from this moment on. I'm sorry if I'm a little
- 1:11:56fucking snippy Ti I work with children, you know, I'm just I want
- 1:12:03to tell you one thing. The thing is that I'm the Antichrist and I
- 1:12:09want all the people to have respect on me because I'm the Antichrist. And
- 1:12:14I don't know who's on the wrestle against me because I'm the best. But
- 1:12:18that jackass broke its leg. And when that jackass broke its leg, my
- 1:12:26father took that jackass and put a gun to that jackass's head and blue that
- 1:12:34jackass's brains out. I said, Daddy, Daddy, why did you do
- 1:12:44that to my jackass? And I want to show the people that anti crest
- 1:12:48is the number one and that's it. I don't have nothing more to say
- 1:12:53because the Antichrist is number one? Daddy, why did you do that to
- 1:13:01my jackass? Hey, you see, when I was a young lad,
- 1:13:04I had a jackass. From this moment on, this will be the moment
- 1:13:15starting now. You got it? Yeah? Retired? Okay, listen,
- 1:13:23what are we gonna do? What do I got freaks? Nine days out
- 1:13:28of the week I can do. I was gonna seven days in a week.
- 1:13:32Man, You ain't big pub I'm a big bad mood. He got
- 1:13:34in and non stop. Now listen English, I am the next big thing.
- 1:13:51What is a mustache? I am the next big thing. I am
- 1:13:58the next generation shit and starting this moment, from now, this moment on,
- 1:14:04from this moment on, this will be the moment. This will be
- 1:14:12now, starting now. What is a mustache? It's a little bit of
- 1:14:19hair growing over the upper lip. I don't have one. Nobody else here
- 1:14:27has one. But you know what a mustache for a real man? Has
- 1:14:31anyone? From whichuck? You ever been in a little hippy even Noah's state
- 1:14:35you call? Huh? Have you even hunted? Life? Game? Have
- 1:14:40you even tasted gaming? Folks? There's jumpings Jeff Farmer, Jef a while
- 1:14:46back, what a match you had with Motley? Yep? Probably the hardest
- 1:14:50bets I ever had in my life. But I don't like it when things
- 1:14:56aren't going my way, Motley crue. You turn the tables on me,
- 1:15:02You turn the tables in a wrong way. You got me mad. Now
- 1:15:08I've stood around, I've listened to everything you had to say. I've did
- 1:15:12everything necessary. But when you turn around and you backstab me one way or
- 1:15:16another, and you treat cheat me out of what's rightfully mind, that's when
- 1:15:20I get angry. Now I'm the one doing the challenging. I'm issuing a
- 1:15:26challenge to you, Motley Cruz, dummy, just one one, Lease me
- 1:15:35tell you one more thing. Let me tell you one more thing. And
- 1:15:41these were all the number one, the number one, and the best.
- 1:15:48It's the anti grace, but not of God, not God, to God,
- 1:15:54the unto Christ. It's me always old men talking down to me,
- 1:16:02looking down on me, shutting me out. That's all you're doing. That's
- 1:16:05all you're doing. Now you know what I want. I've been asking for
- 1:16:11it for years. You're gonna give me what I want or I'm gonna continue
- 1:16:15to hurt people you love one too oh, one too oh, this is
- 1:16:23awesome. Well, you're not gonna bust a nut anytime we're in the ring.
- 1:16:28I don't want a damn thing. Days I have not given you a
- 1:16:31damn thing except the beating you deserve. No pot you want it. That's
- 1:16:36chilling you. Look at you. I know you, I see it.
- 1:16:43It's telling you. It's tearing you apart. You want to hurt me so
- 1:16:45bad you can't stand it. But you want to give it to me because
- 1:16:49you're not in control. You don't know me. You don't know me.
- 1:17:00Damn no me, you don't know. You don't know nothing about me.

- 1:17:16here wants to hear you say it. That's probably pizza and satisfy the whole
- 1:17:21of maniacs. I'm gonna get off by cranking your knob just a little beyond
- 1:17:26the breaking point. Give me what I want. You know what I want.
- 1:17:30You just don't want to give it to me because you're not control.
