So this is really the beginning of week one of the of the NFL

preseason. We kind of wet our beak a little

bit with a Hall of Fame game. Remember, kind of got lucky

there as the the rain out saved us from a losing Texans ticket.

Or maybe they would have come back in one.

But either way, that was kind of what I would call a warm up

play. But now we have some games that

aren't quite real games, but they are real games.

They don't count towards the standings.

The stakes aren't very high. Obviously these teams aren't

really playing to win, but we're playing to win.

So I have a A2 pack here. I got to play on both games.

I got to bet on a total and I got to bet on a side for these

games here tonight. So we're going to refresh our

minds, talk about NFL information based bets when it

comes to the preseason. Now I kind of mentioned this

before the Hall of Fame game, but if you're listening to this

pod, you're a sports better. You want to win, you want to

find an edge. A lot of people may not want to

bet preseason. I totally get it.

It's a bit of a crapshoot. It can be very unpredictable for

But we're going to talk about these games because you guys are

going to watch them, we're going to bet on them, and we want to

make the most informed, data-driven bets that we

possibly can. But not just based on the data,

but really marrying the data with the information that we're

getting from the coaches. Who's going to play, who's going

to sit, who's at quarterback. That can really have a huge

And there was some interesting movement on both of these games

Well, that being said, let's start off with both these games

game in my neck of the woods, the New England Patriots, No Tom

hosting the Carolina Panthers. So anytime I look at pre season

games, the first thing I look at it before I even breakdown how

the lines moving, how the markets reacting, my system

matches. I like to look at each team and

their win totals and I like to say, hey, is there an

opportunity there? I didn't play either of these

but I would mention Panthers 2 and 15 last year obviously had a

terrible year. Their win total is 5 1/2 and the

over is just a little bit. 5 1/2 / -, 115 Patriots.

My Pats. I'll never see another Tom Brady

run like that again. Probably Haley's Comet, I could

probably never win another Super Bowl and be happy.

But anyway, Pat's 4 and 13 last year, no more Belichick.

You bring in Drad Mayo. Panthers have a new coach to

open at 5 1/2. It's down to four and a half and

it's just up over 4 1/2 -, 150. So we're looking at two teams

who are going to probably be two of the worst teams in the NFL.

But let's look at what's happened here with the with the

side and the total. So I want to start off with the

side. It's very clear here that the

Patriots are taking in smart money.

Patriots open this game as low as a 1 1/2 point home favorite.

Now they've been bet up all the way to 6 1/2.

So on the one hand, you could say to yourself, hey, it's very

clear the Patriots are taking the sharp money lay the 6 1/2,

they're going to win by 7 or more.

What in one thing I do like is the bet split.

Like the Patriots are only getting 42% of bets, but 68% of

dollars. That's a pretty good low bets,

higher dollars bet split. So if you're like putting a gun

in the head, I'll go Patriots cuz it's very obvious with the

line move and the bets with the very sharp side.

But especially when it comes to pre season when you have these

tight games, a lot of unpredictability.

I really don't want to lay a 6 1/2 when a game open at -1 1/2.

Now Patriots win by 7 or more, 10 or more.

It's like, hey, just lay the points.

But I think it is important to have a number in your head and

say, hey, I know this is the sharp side, but it's moved so

much that is there still value anymore.

Like think of it this way. If you're betting New England

They may end up covering this number.

We're also getting the worst of the number after it's moved in.

A ton of value might be gone. One big reason you're asking

yourself, why did we see such a line move toward the Patriots?

Well, often times you're going to see line moves based on who's

going to play and who's not going to play.

For example, the Panthers are likely going to sit everybody.

They're not going to play Bryce Young.

Andy Dalton, the backup, he's injured.

So you're probably going to get Jack Plummer and Jake Luton.

Plummer is an undrafted rookie. I think.

I'm pretty sure that's Jake Plummer.

Jake the Snake's kid. And then you had Luton was a six

round pick back in 2020. So you have a couple backups

here. That's why we've seen this line

move so bigly away from Carolina toward New England Patriots.

By the way, they're going to play all their QBs.

So you're looking like Jacoby Percent is going to start.

You're going to see some Drake May tonight, might see Joe

Milton, might see Bailey Zappy. So on the one hand, you have New

That's really the big reason why we've seen this line move so big

toward New England. Now I was looking at, hey,

Patriots, you know, I don't want to lay the 6 1/2.

Should I go money line? They're like -300 that's too

high for me. I did see first half.

They were -240 I also saw a spread of first quarter -1 1/2.

I could be intrigued by that. But not all books are offering

first quarterbacks bets for pre season.

So definitely check your book to see what they're offering.

So Long story short, based on reading the market, it's clear

New England is the sharp bet. But I'm uncomfortable laying a 6

1/2 when the line was 1 1/2. So I'm going to bypass the side

and I'm going to go to the total.

And the total is really intriguing to me for a couple

reasons #1 if you look at Carolina, New England, you're

probably thinking, hey, low scoring game, run the ball to

rookie coaches, maybe sloppy play, maybe a lot of mistakes

that may end up happening, But what's the market doing?

Believe it or not, this total is rising.

Guys, this total open at 34. It's now been bet up to 35.

Now I'm going to give you a an example here why it's so

important to shop for the best line, because there are some

different numbers out there. There's a lot of 30 fives.

There's a lot of 34 1/2's. I even see some 35 1/2's.

So I actually tweeted this out earlier.

So it really helps you to shop for the best line.

So with that being said, if you like the under, under 35 1/2 is

available to you. You like the over, which I like

I'm going to tell you why you might think it's crazy, but I

think there's a reason about the over.

Then you can get 34 1/2 that way if it lands on 35, we cash are

over 34 1/2. A 35 over would push a 35 1/2

over would lose. So especially with these

preseason game, shop around, have multiple outs.

Bet the game at the book that gives you the best number.

Now why am I going over here? Well, number one, I like the

movement in the bet split. I always try to start every cap

with what's the market doing? Leave my bias at the door.

I'm a Patriots fan, so you know, hey, I don't want to let my bias

get injected into this bet and MIT talk me into a bad better,

And you talk to a lot of wise guys and you ask them, Hey,

who's your favorite team? They're going to tell you their

But anyway, reason I like the over, it's risen 34 up to 35.

Right now you're only getting 53% of bets, but 60% of dollars

And then here's where I'm really interested in playing the over.

Now we have seen over the last three years a big change when it

comes to totals for preseason games.

Like you saw, you know, years and years ago would always be

play the under defenses ahead of the offense.

You see low, low totals that go under like it's a total of 35

and it's a, you know, 17 to three-game or a fourteen to 10

game or something like that. But that is completely changed

over the last three years. Did you guys know this the last

three seasons, preseasons overs are 59 and 3861 percent, 16%

So what does that tell us? It tells us that really since

and I would question the way kind of preseasons are treated

like you don't hit as much. You know, maybe that gives an

offense, gives the benefit to the offense.

There's got to be something in terms of the way they handle

preseason and the way they treat it or you know, mini camp and

practices and that's got to be part of it.

But anyway, last three years overs are hitting 61% and this

I dug a little deeper. Preseason overs the last three

years in which the road team missed the postseason.

is that the public is all over Detroit now.

So I want to bet against the public here.

And what I like about the G men is they're not just a contrarian

play. It's not just that they're

unpopular, only getting 20% of of spread bets, but it's also

the fact that we have a fade the trendy dog, Detroit's really

trendy getting 80% of bets as a dog.

Remember, public loves favorites when they load up on a dog.

It really, really, you know, shows their, their bias at play.

But also it's a contrarian favorite and the line hasn't

moved at all. So this is a line freeze.

A line freezes when you have heavy betting one side, but the

sides are going to sit this game out because these teams have had

And you'll see this a lot when they have joint practices.

And I saw there was like some fights going on.

I think Malik Neighbors was part of it.

But often times if you joint practice, the coaches nowadays

say, hey, like those reps are more important in a controlled

environment than in a game. So they'll they'll play their

starters a lot in the joint practices and they won't play in

the preseason game. So no Daniel Jones, no Malik

Neighbors, no Jared Goff. Much of the starters here for

Detroit aren't playing. So who we're going to see at QB,

Giants are going to go with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito.

Remember Tommy Kollitz, Drew Lock, they picked up, I believe,

they've played in the NFL. Conversely, the Lions are going

to go with Hendon Hooker. Remember, he was great at
