• 0:14
SPEAKER_04: I am one fourth of your host, Jen.
• 0:17
SPEAKER_07: And join as always is me, Dakota, as well as Anthony.
• 0:23
SPEAKER_02: And um just uh to add a little perspective, we are going to be covering the sheep detective.
• 0:31
  SPEAKER_03: I didn't say that.
• 0:33
  SPEAKER_02: That's what it right?
• 0:34
  SPEAKER_02: It's the sheep detectives?
• 0:35
SPEAKER_02: It's not the great sheep.
• 0:36
  SPEAKER_02: The sheep detectives.
• 0:37
  SPEAKER_02: The sheep detectives.
• 0:37
SPEAKER_02: It's not the great sheep.
• 0:38
SPEAKER_02: I'm thinking of great mouse detectives.
• 0:41
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what you're saying.
• 0:42
SPEAKER_02: Um but yes, the sheep detectives.
• 0:44
SPEAKER_02: And we can't do it alone because we have The Wolverine.
• 0:52
  SPEAKER_05: My name's Rich.
• 0:53
SPEAKER_05: I was actually I thought we were gonna see a Wolverine movie.
• 0:55
SPEAKER_05: You guys told me it was a great Hugh Jackman detective story, but here we are for sheep detectives this week.
• 1:02
SPEAKER_02: This is old man Logan before the events of the movie Logan.
• 1:06
  SPEAKER_07: Uh okay.
• 1:08
  SPEAKER_07: I like it.
• 1:09
  SPEAKER_07: I like it.
• 1:09
SPEAKER_07: You could probably fit this into Wolverine's uh chronology somewhere.
• 1:14
SPEAKER_07: I used to shear sheep.
• 1:15
SPEAKER_07: Maybe not the death part, but uh everything else.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_02: You want to talk about shearing sheep, Bub?
• 1:20
  SPEAKER_02: The death?
• 1:21
SPEAKER_02: The death was a cover-up for him just disappearing.
• 1:25
SPEAKER_02: Now he can just go be Wolverine.
• 1:28
SPEAKER_07: He's had a long time to rack up 30 million dollars.
• 1:32
  SPEAKER_07: A really long time.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_07: And he probably stole like Hank McCoy's special medicine to like cure this sheep disease.
• 1:41
SPEAKER_07: Like, there's no way Wolverine would have been able to figure this out.
• 1:45
  SPEAKER_05: Not that old Kanocklehead.
• 1:47
  SPEAKER_07: Not that old Knucklehead.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_07: Anyway, uh yeah, so we're covering the sheep detectives.
• 1:52
SPEAKER_07: That's a film that came out just a couple months ago at this point.
• 1:55
SPEAKER_07: It was probably like a month and a half ago that it came out, maybe two.
• 1:58
SPEAKER_07: And it's on Amazon, and uh it is now the number one movie on Amazon Prime for the time being, which is pretty cool.
• 2:05
SPEAKER_07: People like the sheep, it gets them in the feels.
• 2:08
SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're gonna talk all about like what we liked, disliked about the movie, and perhaps touch a little bit on actual real life sheep lore, because I had to look up a couple things to see if they actually existed in the real world.
• 2:24
SPEAKER_07: Like, can sheep delete their memories?
• 2:26
  SPEAKER_07: They cannot.
• 2:27
  SPEAKER_07: Oh.
• 2:28
  SPEAKER_07: Actually, I don't know.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_07: I did not look that one up, but I I can't imagine that's something that they can just willingly do en masse.
• 2:34
SPEAKER_05: They don't do the low.
• 2:36
SPEAKER_05: No, they just need the help of uh Tommy Lee Jones or Will Smith, and then they're fine.
• 2:41
SPEAKER_07: They did not have that in this movie.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_07: Before we jump into any sheep detecting, let's talk a little bit about what the heck we've been up to this past week.
• 2:51
SPEAKER_07: I'll start this one off.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_07: I am at long last on the eighth and final, for now, book of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_07: I'm taking this one a little bit slower, just because it is the last one for who knows how long.
• 3:06
SPEAKER_07: Although the the author has been pumping these out really fast.
• 3:10
SPEAKER_07: You know, they the first one came out in 2020, and he's now just released eight books, and there's gonna be, I think, two more total.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_07: So I will very shortly be caught up, and I am kind of scared about that prospect.
• 3:25
SPEAKER_07: I I I spoke about that a little bit in the chat with you guys earlier.
• 3:28
SPEAKER_07: Just uh I'm scared of not knowing what comes next because I didn't have that problem the past seven books.
• 3:36
SPEAKER_07: But anyway, uh yeah, I'm taking this one a little bit slower.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_07: I'm pretty much only listening like on my commutes to work and not during work.
• 3:43
SPEAKER_07: Um I just want to take savor it a little bit longer.
• 3:46
SPEAKER_07: Other than that, we have finished season four of Only Murders in the Buildings.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_07: Occasionally, the show is fantastic, and the non-occasional parts are good, they're good.
• 3:59
SPEAKER_07: But like occasionally the show gen reaches peaks where I'm like, wow, that's really great, or wow, that's great cinematography.
• 4:05
SPEAKER_07: But ultimately, I think the the joy of the show comes from the guest actors that populate the series every now and then, like Meryl Streep.
• 4:13
SPEAKER_07: Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd had a big role in the past two seasons.
• 4:17
SPEAKER_07: Sting happened just popped up in the first season.
• 4:22
SPEAKER_07: Just a bunch of like really, really stupid, like one-off things.
• 4:25
  SPEAKER_07: And yeah, I it's a really fun show.
• 4:27
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm really enjoying it.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_04: One thing that I really like about the show is the interior design choices.
• 4:32
SPEAKER_04: Like every apartment that you go into in this building has incredible wallpaper.
• 4:37
SPEAKER_04: I don't know if like like the contractors in the building had a deal, they had some kind of wallpaper business.
• 4:43
SPEAKER_04: Uh everybody has fantastic wallpaper, and I want in.
• 4:47
SPEAKER_07: I think they are I think it's wallpaper, I think it's wallpaper propaganda, actually.
• 4:50
SPEAKER_04: I think it is wallpaper propaganda.
• 4:54
SPEAKER_04: I've never actually wanted wallpaper.
• 4:55
SPEAKER_05: I think they're uh suddenly Chechen or something like that, Czechoslovakian interior decorators that were hired for that.
• 5:03
  SPEAKER_04: So I don't get that joke.
• 5:05
  SPEAKER_04: That's a Sopranos reference.
• 5:07
  SPEAKER_07: Oh.
• 5:07
  SPEAKER_07: Okay.
• 5:08
  SPEAKER_04: He killed Czechoslovakians.
• 5:11
SPEAKER_04: He's he was an interior decorator.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_07: His house looked like poop.
• 5:14
  SPEAKER_07: Um anyway.
• 5:16
SPEAKER_07: What else have we been up to?
• 5:17
SPEAKER_07: Uh you started watching the new season of House of the Dragon.
• 5:21
SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, so I've been watching the I just yesterday watched the two episodes of House of the Dragon.
• 5:25
SPEAKER_04: I'm not like in love with this season.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_04: I just as a pregnant lady, first season, a lot of disrespect to the moms.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_04: The moms took a lot of hits.
• 5:34
SPEAKER_04: Two moms in the show greatly disrespected, and there were consequences.
• 5:39
SPEAKER_04: And then the next episode, there's like this deadbeat dad who just wasn't the best dad ever, and then like the kids are like respecting the hell out of him.
• 5:48
  SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
• 5:48
  SPEAKER_04: I feel like it's dad propaganda.
• 5:50
SPEAKER_04: I feel like House of the Dragons turning into dad propaganda, and as a as an almost mom, not loving that.
• 5:57
SPEAKER_07: Gotta pay the daddy tax.
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_07: That's a reference to last week's podcast.
• 6:02
SPEAKER_07: And I actually do want to make a brief mention about that because you like two people, uh, you, Jen, and uh Rich brought it up separately.
• 6:11
SPEAKER_07: What is the daddy tax?
• 6:14
SPEAKER_07: And I had mentioned that it's something you don't need to know, it's not brought up ever again.
• 6:19
  SPEAKER_07: That's a lie.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_07: At the end of book seven, it's brought up again, and it's meaningless.
• 6:24
SPEAKER_07: It it is a it is genuinely a meaningless joke, but the way that it's brought up is very funny.
• 6:30
SPEAKER_07: So just a correction, just a daddy tax correction.
• 6:33
SPEAKER_07: Anthony, what have you been up to, my friend?
• 6:36
SPEAKER_02: What have I been up to?
• 6:38
SPEAKER_02: I too have been watching this alternate universe version of uh House of the Dragons, but it has Kryptonians in it.
• 6:50
  SPEAKER_07: Oh, I see.
• 6:51
  SPEAKER_07: Yes.
• 6:52
SPEAKER_07: Actually, speaking of which, Millie Alcock is in the original or the first season of House of the Dragon.
• 6:59
  SPEAKER_07: Yes.
• 6:59
SPEAKER_07: So that's a that's a pretty good uh pretty good reference there.
• 7:02
  SPEAKER_07: It's a cool segue.
• 7:03
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I did end up going to see Supergirl.
• 7:08
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, how was it?
• 7:09
  SPEAKER_05: Don't spoil it, I'm going tomorrow.
• 7:11
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, you're going tomorrow?
• 7:12
  SPEAKER_02: Yes.
• 7:12
SPEAKER_02: Um, I would say like there are some things that I liked about it.
• 7:17
SPEAKER_02: Overall, it I I I think that the Superman movie definitely beats it out, but there's still some fun, like there's still things about it that were fun.
• 7:27
SPEAKER_02: Uh that I did enjoy.
• 7:29
SPEAKER_02: And we do get some nice uh cameos from your boy.
• 7:33
SPEAKER_02: But I mean, like, we know that he he's pops into it, so your boy.
• 7:38
  SPEAKER_07: My boy.
• 7:39
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Dakota's boy.
• 7:40
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, so I did that and just been kind of like Rich wa watching the World Cup.
• 7:48
  SPEAKER_04: Excellent.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_04: I made some World Cup predictions today that were all pretty accurate.
• 7:52
  SPEAKER_02: Did you?
• 7:53
SPEAKER_04: Rich had me predict games that I didn't realize had already happened.
• 7:58
SPEAKER_04: And he was trolling me because he thought I was gonna get them wrong, and I actually got almost all of them right.
• 8:04
SPEAKER_04: But I didn't know that the games had already occurred.
• 8:06
SPEAKER_04: He would just be like, Who do you think's gonna win?
• 8:08
  SPEAKER_04: Morocco or Netherlands?
• 8:10
SPEAKER_04: I don't know if those are Hoopley or not, and I would just be like, Netherlands, and I was right on how many uh like I only got one role.
• 8:16
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so like it was actually amazing because we were in a work Zoom call essentially, and like I could see my other coworker's face, but like Jen didn't.
• 8:25
SPEAKER_05: So I'm like, How about you predict these games?
• 8:28
SPEAKER_05: And like she'd been talking about like predicting other games, and I was like, Well, we can't verify your predictions because those games haven't happened.
• 8:35
SPEAKER_05: But just to like see, you know, see if I could keep it going, I was like, eh, you know what?
• 8:40
SPEAKER_05: So let me ask you the knockout, make some predictions.
• 8:42
SPEAKER_05: And Emily goes, our coworker goes, wait a minute, or she goes to go, wait a minute, I'm like, shh.
• 8:47
SPEAKER_05: And uh yeah, no, uh Jen's an idiot savant here.
• 8:51
SPEAKER_05: So I think you should get Kelshi.
• 8:53
SPEAKER_05: I think you should get Poly Market, and I think that if you have any money that people have given you guys because the baby's coming, take it and put it on the World Cup games.
• 9:03
SPEAKER_05: I think this is a great idea.
• 9:04
SPEAKER_05: Jen has a nose for this, and I want to sit back and watch you guys win.
• 9:09
SPEAKER_05: So I would even borrow money off of anyone that lives near you and just bet money on anything that Jen says.
• 9:16
SPEAKER_02: Look, crazier things have happened.
• 9:17
  SPEAKER_02: That's a good idea.
• 9:18
SPEAKER_02: Like Austin going to a soccer game.
• 9:20
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, Austin went to the World Cup.
• 9:22
SPEAKER_07: That's my brother, for those of you listening.
• 9:25
SPEAKER_07: And obviously, you guys have no idea who my brothers are.
• 9:27
SPEAKER_07: So yeah, Austin never expected him to ever go be interested in sports, but he like was extremely engaged this past couple weeks.
• 9:36
  SPEAKER_05: Anywho.
• 9:37
SPEAKER_05: I would have assumed that Cleveland would have been more into it than uh Austin personally, but uh sorry guys, I just want to fill you in that uh Dakota, so there's Dakota, his brother Austin, and his brother Cleveland.
• 9:48
SPEAKER_05: Uh they're all named after locations.
• 9:50
  SPEAKER_05: So alright.
• 9:51
  SPEAKER_05: Sorry, Anthony.
• 9:52
  SPEAKER_05: I I'm sorry.
• 9:53
  SPEAKER_05: I uh you can't be bleat, and I I'm I'm sorry I interrupted you.
• 9:57
  SPEAKER_02: Um you're good.
• 9:58
SPEAKER_02: Um did you enjoy yourself with Supergirl?
• 10:01
  SPEAKER_02: I did.
• 10:01
SPEAKER_02: I would say, yeah, I enjoyed it.
• 10:03
SPEAKER_02: Like I um what was it was it the the the best DC movie?
• 10:10
SPEAKER_02: No, but I feel like I enjoyed it more than a lot of the Snyder verse stuff.
• 10:16
SPEAKER_02: Like you could tell that there's like a different approach going.
• 10:20
  SPEAKER_07: So it's definitely DC.
• 10:22
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
• 10:22
  SPEAKER_02: It's decent.
• 10:23
SPEAKER_02: Like I understand like the gripes, but like I said, there are some redeeming qualities to it.
• 10:29
SPEAKER_07: Let's uh did you have anything else you wanted to talk about or we'll go pass it over to Rich.
• 10:34
  SPEAKER_07: Rich, I I hear you've been reading a whole lot.
• 10:38
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no well, I tried.
• 10:39
SPEAKER_05: Uh so I I did I started reading I've read about uh I don't know, maybe like a third-ish or half of the second book of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.
• 10:53
SPEAKER_05: So I'm just I I have all of them up on queue, so I have them all ready in my iPad.
• 10:59
SPEAKER_05: Uh unfortunately I did per recently was gifted uh the Lego Batman game and it has uh transformed my life.
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_05: I I love it so much.
• 11:09
SPEAKER_05: It's exactly so I just to remind you guys, I'm off for the summer, I'm a teacher, so I almost always get myself a game that I can enjoy, and then I almost always beat it within the first week and a half of summer, so that I have nothing else to do.
• 11:22
SPEAKER_05: But like Anthony said, I'm also enjoying the World Cup, which is nice because uh wow, the Mets are depressing.
• 11:28
SPEAKER_05: I can't say anything else about it.
• 11:30
SPEAKER_05: But um in in positive news, I'll share this little geek fact before we move on to our sheep detectives.
• 11:36
SPEAKER_05: We uh Charlie is going to his first concert on July 11th at the as my wife calls it, the USB arena, but I have to remind her that it's not a universal service bus, but it's actually a um the US yeah, UBS Arena in Long Island.
• 11:53
  SPEAKER_05: UBS, it's a bank.
• 11:54
SPEAKER_05: We're gonna see none other than Weird Al Yankovic.
• 12:00
  SPEAKER_03: Wow.
• 12:01
SPEAKER_07: So uh that was that was his choice as uh first concert.
• 12:04
  SPEAKER_07: I mean, I don't I'm impressed.
• 12:06
SPEAKER_05: He didn't necessarily say, I want to go to the Weird Al concert as much as we said, hey, do you want to go to the Weird Al concert?
• 12:15
SPEAKER_05: And he said, Yes, I do.
• 12:17
SPEAKER_05: So we're gonna be rocking Hawaiian shirts, hair down, very excited.
• 12:22
SPEAKER_05: Uh it's gonna be like it's gonna feel like Jen's there singing these songs, but uh really excited for that.
• 12:29
SPEAKER_05: But not more excited than I am.
• 12:31
  SPEAKER_05: No, that's a lie.
• 12:32
  SPEAKER_05: I mean that's just a segue.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say, not more excited than I am to talk about sheep detectives.
• 12:37
SPEAKER_07: Oh, I do have one question for you, Rich, just to keep um your interests alive a little bit longer.
• 12:43
SPEAKER_07: The Batman Lego game, what is this story?
• 12:46
SPEAKER_07: Like, what is it adapting, or is it an entirely new story?
• 12:49
SPEAKER_05: So it's it's everything from the movies.
• 12:51
SPEAKER_05: So they start with him as a little kid, then they have him do the Dark Knight, like the the Dark Knight series, where he starts the training, but then you kind of pivot and you're in Gotham, and instead of like Bane happening just yet, you um you encounter the Riddler, and then you counter the Joker, which is like chapter two, and that's the classic Jack Nicholson Joker, because it's supposed to be earlier on in his career.
• 13:18
SPEAKER_05: So you start without having Robin, and you know, you meet Catwoman, and then eventually, uh like I'm in chapter I think three now, where the you know the penguins kicking around now.
• 13:31
SPEAKER_05: I think uh Harvey Dent has now gone fully two-faced.
• 13:35
SPEAKER_05: So i uh they just introduced um what's her name?
• 13:39
  SPEAKER_05: Poison Ivy.
• 13:41
SPEAKER_05: It's just they're combining the movie, it's a tapestry of the movies, and it's just doing it so well.
• 13:48
SPEAKER_05: And it's really more adult than any of things not in a crude way, I don't mean that at all.
• 13:54
SPEAKER_05: But I think that it's a little bit more like the m the game is not just made for kids.
• 13:59
SPEAKER_05: This game is made for a 40-year-old man.
• 14:02
SPEAKER_05: Like it is, it's made for me.
• 14:04
SPEAKER_05: It they the so many of the little tiny Easter eggs, even like there's a passage where you have to go through and you know there's a little like writing over the the entranceway and it says Max Headroom.
• 14:17
SPEAKER_05: And like I knew that was a reference to the Max Headroom, you know, like like and and it's just those little tiny things that this is um I have long said that the Lego series I think is probably for me the one of the some of the most complete video games in terms of being able to mix fun and then mix the the member berries of the old franchises, and this might be their best work ever.
• 14:40
SPEAKER_02: Didn't you get your new persona from this game?
• 14:43
  SPEAKER_02: Uh what?
• 14:44
  SPEAKER_02: What do you mean?
• 14:45
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, your new persona.
• 14:46
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, condiment man, yes.
• 14:48
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 14:48
  SPEAKER_05: Uh I did it.
• 14:49
  SPEAKER_05: Thank you, Anthony.
• 14:50
SPEAKER_05: So uh to my delight, the game has Wait, are you Batman?
• 14:56
SPEAKER_05: Uh that's what I thought he was like leading me towards, and I was like, I gotta I guess I gotta go with it.
• 15:00
  SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
• 15:01
  SPEAKER_04: I guess I'm Batman now.
• 15:02
  SPEAKER_04: Guess I'm Batman.
• 15:03
SPEAKER_05: No, but uh yeah, no, so like I love hot dogs.
• 15:06
SPEAKER_05: I've maybe I've mentioned this on the show a few times.
• 15:09
SPEAKER_05: I uh I ate 100 hot dogs in a year, and that uh my school voted me most likely to win a hundred to eat a hundred hot dogs in a year because uh I did.
• 15:17
SPEAKER_07: Because you already did it, yeah.
• 15:18
SPEAKER_05: But in the game, there's little tiny, like there's like hot dog carts everywhere, and you end up finding a villain named I don't I spoilers, I'm sorry guys, Condiment Man who attacks you with like lots of ketchup and mustard.
• 15:31
SPEAKER_05: Although it's weird because he only attacks you with yellow mustard, and if I were a super villain named Condiment Man, I'm using that like crazy spicy mustard, you know what I'm saying?
• 15:43
  SPEAKER_07: Dijon.
• 15:43
SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, yeah, like right in the eye, you know, like I don't know.
• 15:47
  SPEAKER_05: But you know what?
• 15:48
  SPEAKER_07: It's it's Dijon is good.
• 15:49
SPEAKER_07: It's more pasty and not like a sauce that can easily be squeezed and shot.
• 15:53
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's a good point, actually.
• 15:55
SPEAKER_07: Texture wise, texture, it's a little bit more difficult to apply.
• 15:59
SPEAKER_07: Fair um, but you know, I would definitely relish the opportunity to play a guy like that.
• 16:06
SPEAKER_05: He actually, by the way, he makes that joke.
• 16:08
SPEAKER_05: Like he says, I can't remember verbatim, but he's like, I'll relish beating you, Batman.
• 16:14
SPEAKER_05: You know, it's like something like that.
• 16:15
  SPEAKER_05: Like it's it's so good.
• 16:17
  SPEAKER_05: So highly recommended.
• 16:19
  SPEAKER_07: Excellent.
• 16:19
SPEAKER_07: You know what's juicy, guys?
• 16:21
SPEAKER_05: Voodoo Ranger's Sweet Ride, Juicy IPA is very juicy.
• 16:25
SPEAKER_07: I mean, it is juicy, I guess.
• 16:27
SPEAKER_05: And it's our official sponsor, unofficially.
• 16:30
SPEAKER_07: It is unofficially our not sponsor.
• 16:33
  SPEAKER_07: Please don't sue us.
• 16:37
SPEAKER_04: Uh I really hope it no, um You hope we get sued.
• 16:41
SPEAKER_05: Because imagine Voodoo Ranger's like, excuse me, Project Ecology.
• 16:46
SPEAKER_05: We've heard you've been saying great things about us on the show.
• 16:49
SPEAKER_05: We want you to cease and desist, and we'll bring you to court.
• 16:54
  SPEAKER_07: That would be good.
• 16:55
SPEAKER_07: No, um, the orf medicine that uh Oh, I'm sorry.
• 16:58
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that does look pretty easy.
• 16:59
SPEAKER_07: That Logan that Logan makes.
• 17:01
SPEAKER_07: He creates like a he has like a paste, a blue paste that you just called him Logan.
• 17:06
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that Logan he like mushes into like a juice that he then feeds to the sheep that have the orf.
• 17:13
SPEAKER_07: I it sounds like they're saying Ulf U-L-F, but it's actually O-R-F in this movie.
• 17:18
SPEAKER_04: Is that a real sheep disease?
• 17:20
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, that actually is a real sheep disease, yeah.
• 17:25
  SPEAKER_05: I know I know.
• 17:28
SPEAKER_05: That's you you answered that so quickly that I actually don't think that that you looked that up.
• 17:34
SPEAKER_05: I feel like you just lied about that.
• 17:35
SPEAKER_07: Well, how the heck would I I spell checked it and they they gave me the correct spelling.
• 17:40
SPEAKER_07: Obviously, I looked it up.
• 17:42
  SPEAKER_07: Just seems so ridiculous.
• 17:45
  SPEAKER_07: Yes, it is.
• 17:47
  SPEAKER_07: Of course it is.
• 17:49
SPEAKER_07: Why would I how would I know that the correct spelling of this fictional?
• 17:56
SPEAKER_07: Alright, so this movie is about Logan dying.
• 18:02
SPEAKER_07: And his pet sheep have to figure this out because he has taught them how to solve mysteries, have solved like murder mysteries specifically.
• 18:14
SPEAKER_07: And it is deeply charming.
• 18:16
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, Jen and I have a we we actually went to the theaters to see this and we loved it.
• 18:23
  SPEAKER_07: Loved it.
• 18:24
SPEAKER_04: To me, it reminds me of like a movie that would have come out when I was a child.
• 18:30
SPEAKER_04: Like it's very nostalgic, even though it's new.
• 18:33
SPEAKER_04: It feels like something from I don't know, the early 2000s.
• 18:38
SPEAKER_02: Like the era of the Well you there was that um was it the Dakota fanning Charlotte's Webb?
• 18:45
  SPEAKER_02: There was also Babe.
• 18:47
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it feels like something from when I was a kid, and I just like that you can't forget Babe 2 pig in the city.
• 18:54
SPEAKER_05: Fun fact about the first time I ever watched it, I fell asleep at my aunt's and uncle's house.
• 18:59
SPEAKER_05: I woke up the next morning and I had missed the ending, and I said, So uh what ends up happening?
• 19:04
SPEAKER_05: And he's like, Oh, well, you know, babe loses, and you know, they confr they console him for you know the fact that he's still a he's still a good one.
• 19:12
SPEAKER_05: And I was like, Oh, and for years I just never rewatched it, and I just I just went along thinking that Babe lost.
• 19:18
  SPEAKER_05: Wow terrible, yeah.
• 19:19
SPEAKER_04: It is very it's kinda that's crazy you didn't like fact check that.
• 19:23
SPEAKER_04: You were like the you accepted it the way that Dakota accepted that Orph is real.
• 19:27
  SPEAKER_05: But I was eleven.
• 19:28
  SPEAKER_04: You're just like, yep, that's it.
• 19:29
SPEAKER_05: I was eleven and it was like this is like the year that Babe came out, so I just want you guys to understand that there was nothing known as the internet really.
• 19:37
SPEAKER_05: Um so I had no way of uh checking it because I couldn't uh get the movie.
• 19:42
  SPEAKER_04: That's really sad, Rich.
• 19:44
  SPEAKER_05: It does have beams.
• 19:44
SPEAKER_07: There's also yeah, speaking of like other movies with CGI farm animals, there's quite a few actually, now that I'm thinking about it.
• 19:52
  SPEAKER_07: There's um there's Kung Pao.
• 19:55
SPEAKER_07: There's that scene where he fights that that cow.
• 19:58
  SPEAKER_05: Okay.
• 19:59
SPEAKER_05: I just also saw Animal Farm recently.
• 20:02
SPEAKER_05: That's uh look Oh yeah.
• 20:04
SPEAKER_05: They just how was that?
• 20:06
SPEAKER_05: Uh how was Animal Farm?
• 20:07
SPEAKER_05: It was kind of weird because they boiled it down for kids.
• 20:10
SPEAKER_05: But it overall, I guess like to introduce my son to the ideas of it, I guess it was fine.
• 20:15
  SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
• 20:16
  SPEAKER_05: That's interesting.
• 20:17
SPEAKER_05: But this is way better in terms of farm animal movies.
• 20:21
SPEAKER_04: As far as they go.
• 20:21
SPEAKER_04: Like this is like a podcast where we rank all of the CGI farm animal movies.
• 20:26
  SPEAKER_04: This is like honestly.
• 20:27
SPEAKER_05: That would actually be kind of fun.
• 20:28
SPEAKER_05: Seventh on my MCU list of movies.
• 20:30
SPEAKER_05: This is definitely second for my Fox X-Men movies.
• 20:34
SPEAKER_05: This is for just the Fox universe, this is second.
• 20:37
  SPEAKER_07: Wow.
• 20:38
SPEAKER_07: Anthony, what are your thoughts on Elf Sheep Detectivitos?
• 20:43
  SPEAKER_02: The talking sheep movie.
• 20:45
SPEAKER_02: It was uh it was pretty good.
• 20:46
  SPEAKER_02: I I I did enjoy it.
• 20:48
SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I would have seen it in the theater, but I don't think that but not that's not to say that it's a bad movie, it's just more so a preference, I think.
• 21:01
SPEAKER_02: But you know, being able to kind of like sit here and enjoy it at the house was nice, you know.
• 21:07
SPEAKER_02: It it it does have like even though it's like a a mystery movie about uh, you know, like sheep, you know, they're they're solving a mystery, there's something weirdly cozy about it, and I I don't I don't know if it's the the sheep, but you know, just being able to relax at your house and watch it like really like maximize those vibes.
• 21:31
SPEAKER_07: For me, it was it was Patrick Stewart yelling, Murdero.
• 21:35
SPEAKER_07: That was the cozy part for me.
• 21:37
SPEAKER_02: Speaking of that, actually, let's this movie's crazily stacked.
• 21:44
SPEAKER_02: Like, what is going on?
• 21:46
SPEAKER_04: I feel like like in the casting office, they must have been shocked at how many people they were just throwing you know vibes out hey, you want to be in the sheet movie?
• 21:54
SPEAKER_04: And like everyone said yes.
• 21:57
SPEAKER_07: They there's more big names that Are voicing sheep than there are big names voice or like ac actually inhabiting the human roles.
• 22:06
SPEAKER_07: Not to say that there aren't big roles, but Thompson is.
• 22:19
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 22:20
SPEAKER_02: And a couple other things like I've seen him in.
• 22:23
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, no, you're right.
• 22:24
SPEAKER_02: There are a lot more big names that were voicing the sheep.
• 22:29
SPEAKER_02: Like when I was like looking through the list, I'm like, dude, I like, is this real?
• 22:34
  SPEAKER_02: This is crazy.
• 22:36
SPEAKER_02: It was almost like it was like the first time I looked through the the voice acting list of Avatar.
• 22:42
SPEAKER_02: Like I'm like, dude, what the heck is this?
• 22:45
SPEAKER_07: Also, uh other characters that populate the cast.
• 22:49
  SPEAKER_07: You mentioned Emma Thompson.
• 22:51
SPEAKER_07: Um, is the lawyer that comes up.
• 22:53
  SPEAKER_07: Love her.
• 22:54
SPEAKER_07: She's super funny in this.
• 22:56
SPEAKER_07: We have uh Wolverine in the the titular dead body role.
• 23:02
SPEAKER_07: Maybe not titular, but the dead body role.
• 23:04
SPEAKER_07: There's the other shepherd, like the other sheep shepherd, is one of the companions of the 13th Doctor in Doctor Who.
• 23:13
SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I mean we have um the girl from the bear.
• 23:16
  SPEAKER_04: She plays Claire Bear.
• 23:18
SPEAKER_04: We have like everybody everybody that's in this was in Ruggie.
• 23:20
SPEAKER_04: Actually, yeah, you have the guy from Game of Thrones.
• 23:23
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Varys.
• 23:24
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like Yeah, with hair.
• 23:26
SPEAKER_05: He was so that green.
• 23:28
  SPEAKER_05: That's where I remember him from.
• 23:30
  SPEAKER_05: The butchery.
• 23:32
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he went to Turkey, man.
• 23:34
  SPEAKER_05: Like that's crazy.
• 23:35
SPEAKER_05: I was like, whoa! My man Varys got a rug job.
• 23:40
  SPEAKER_04: Wow.
• 23:41
  SPEAKER_04: It's it's rug job sounds bad.
• 23:43
  SPEAKER_02: It's crazy.
• 23:44
SPEAKER_02: Like he was also in a in a role that like you didn't like him in.
• 23:50
  SPEAKER_02: In this one.
• 23:51
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 23:51
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 23:52
SPEAKER_05: Well, I have nothing to say Unix personally, so I didn't have any problem with him.
• 23:57
  SPEAKER_07: Okay.
• 23:57
  SPEAKER_07: That's good.
• 23:58
SPEAKER_07: Who else is in the cast?
• 24:00
  SPEAKER_05: Julia Louis Dreyfus.
• 24:02
SPEAKER_05: Uh the guy from the Brett from uh what's the call?
• 24:07
  SPEAKER_05: Ted Lasso.
• 24:08
  SPEAKER_05: Ted Lasso.
• 24:08
  SPEAKER_05: Ted Lasso.
• 24:09
SPEAKER_07: Louise Ju Julia Louise Dreyfus.
• 24:12
  SPEAKER_07: Why can't I say her name?
• 24:13
  SPEAKER_04: It's Lily.
• 24:13
SPEAKER_07: Is Lily the the main one?
• 24:15
SPEAKER_04: Which is so weird because I feel like sometimes with voice like when famous celebrities are like voice acting, I can just picture the actor's face.
• 24:25
SPEAKER_04: Like with Patrick Stewart, I every time that sheep spoke, I was picturing Patrick Stewart.
• 24:30
SPEAKER_04: And well with her, some she did something to her voice to kind of make it so that I wasn't really thinking about her, which is interesting.
• 24:39
  SPEAKER_02: Brian Cranston, too.
• 24:41
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Brian Cranston.
• 24:42
  SPEAKER_07: Brian Cranston.
• 24:43
  SPEAKER_04: Brian the Manston.
• 24:44
SPEAKER_05: I think sometimes like uh guys like Stuart, Pacino, Walken, it almost seems as they get older, like their voice is like a caricature like version of themselves as they get older.
• 24:59
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 24:59
SPEAKER_05: So kudos to Julie Louis Dreyfus for being able to do that because like she sounds so evil when she's Alexandra De Fontaine in uh the Marvel universe, right?
• 25:10
SPEAKER_05: She kind of sounds sinister and she doesn't have there's a lot of tenderness in her voice that I thought I hadn't seen in a lot of her acting because so much of it is comedic that I I thought the that was nice.
• 25:23
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, usually she's kind of like a drier, I don't know.
• 25:27
SPEAKER_04: She plays more like dryer deadpan.
• 25:29
SPEAKER_07: Why did the deadpan but why do the sheep have uh different accents?
• 25:33
SPEAKER_04: That was one thing I was wondering too.
• 25:35
  SPEAKER_04: Why is she American?
• 25:36
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, she's American, Brian Cranston's sheep is American.
• 25:40
SPEAKER_04: But then like the other sheep are British.
• 25:43
SPEAKER_07: And then the sheep right next door are all French.
• 25:45
  SPEAKER_04: Run.
• 25:48
  SPEAKER_04: That seemed so scary.
• 25:50
SPEAKER_07: What did you guys think of the Winter Lamb aspect of this movie?
• 25:55
SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, so I like when we first watched the movie, I obviously was like saddened by the Winter Lamb.
• 26:01
SPEAKER_04: But then I almost forgot how sad the Winter Lamb made me, and watching it again at home, I was way more sad about the Winter Lamb in the comforts of my own home.
• 26:10
  SPEAKER_04: I don't know why.
• 26:12
SPEAKER_07: Well, I think you're closer to having your own baby, so like the idea of Yeah, a little abandoned baby.
• 26:18
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, a little abandoned baby.
• 26:19
  SPEAKER_07: Just living outside, basically.
• 26:22
SPEAKER_07: Like it's it's as if you like put a baby in the backyard and just left it looked at it occasionally like scowling while you ate your dinner.
• 26:30
SPEAKER_05: It's a song as old as time.
• 26:32
SPEAKER_05: You know, um Jon Snow, Moses, uh what's the the guy beyond the walls babies, you know, like Harry Potter.
• 26:40
SPEAKER_05: Not Harry Potter, um uh The White Walker, the guy who gave the his sons to the White Walkers.
• 26:45
  SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
• 26:46
  SPEAKER_05: Right?
• 26:47
SPEAKER_04: Uh it is you know it's no, I wasn't saying that that was Harry Potter.
• 26:52
SPEAKER_04: I was just saying Harry Potter like an abandoned baby.
• 26:55
SPEAKER_05: Oh, I was like, oh yeah.
• 26:56
SPEAKER_07: So abandoned baby stories are great.
• 26:58
SPEAKER_07: I was I kept thinking, like, how is this reverting back to like how does Beauty and the Beast fall into this?
• 27:05
SPEAKER_07: Because you said a tale as old as time, and I'm just like Oh no, no, I just mean like the abandoned baby.
• 27:10
SPEAKER_07: You've meant yes, and I get it.
• 27:12
  SPEAKER_07: Um being the hero.
• 27:13
SPEAKER_07: So I'm not firing on all cylinders tonight, guys, but I'm trying.
• 27:16
SPEAKER_04: Wait, you should tell them the story of when we were in the movie theater with the winter lamb.
• 27:22
  SPEAKER_07: Oh god.
• 27:23
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so we're in the theater, we're in our proper seats, whatever, we have like a lady, a couple like two seats to the left of me, and then she put like a bag in between us.
• 27:34
SPEAKER_07: And we get to the part where they talk about the winter lamb, and they said something like the the winter lambs are never loved, or anything like that.
• 27:44
SPEAKER_07: And then she whispered, she like turns to me and she goes, That's you, and I'm like, I'm like, What the hell?
• 27:53
SPEAKER_07: I'm just I kind of like look over with like my side eye, just like hoping she's not talking to me, but like I saw her turn to me and say that, and then like a couple minutes later, I hear like a whimpering coming from the bag next to me.
• 28:06
SPEAKER_07: This lady brought like a tiny dog in a bag, and it was just like the most behaved dog in a in a two-hour movie I've ever seen.
• 28:15
SPEAKER_05: My my heart just went on such a crazy roller coaster of emotions because I thought that somebody had said that to you, and and I didn't understand why, but I kind of did.
• 28:29
SPEAKER_03: And then the dog, like I don't, I'm so could that's you Dakota hasn't like mentioned like this was a super creepy, kind of crazy lady, like she walked in kind of like rambling to herself.
• 28:44
SPEAKER_07: You know those like old ladies that like come with like a like not like those like half shopping carts, they go everywhere where like they have all their bags, uh and Agatha, yes, it was one of those.
• 28:55
SPEAKER_04: Like, if she would have said that to me, I would have been so scared.
• 28:58
SPEAKER_04: Like, what do you mean?
• 28:59
SPEAKER_07: And I just tried to like just tune it out.
• 29:02
SPEAKER_01: I was just like, what the heck?
• 29:05
SPEAKER_01: The the colour, the color just like, what is happening right now?
• 29:12
  SPEAKER_00: What is this?
• 29:14
SPEAKER_07: That is such a strange way to talk to a stranger.
• 29:21
SPEAKER_07: Oh man, but uh no, it happened.
• 29:23
SPEAKER_07: I didn't even see what the dog looked like.
• 29:24
SPEAKER_07: I just know that it I saw.
• 29:26
SPEAKER_04: He was really cute actually.
• 29:27
  SPEAKER_04: He was a puppy.
• 29:28
SPEAKER_04: Oh he was young and like super well behaved.
• 29:31
SPEAKER_07: So maybe that's why she was talking to it like it was a lamb or whatever.
• 29:34
SPEAKER_07: The winter lamb thing was so sad in this movie.
• 29:36
SPEAKER_07: Like, whenever you saw that like adorable uh little CGI monster like rolling around all dirty, I I loved it.
• 29:45
SPEAKER_07: I loved the fact that it was just called the Winter Lamb, like it hadn't been named yet.
• 29:49
  SPEAKER_07: It was so sad.
• 29:50
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 29:51
SPEAKER_04: And the voice, that voice was like the cutest little voice that they could have picked for a lamb.
• 29:56
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was like Was that Bella Ramsay or no?
• 30:00
  SPEAKER_07: I don't think so.
• 30:01
SPEAKER_04: I thought Bella wasn't Bella Ramsey the one Zora.
• 30:03
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 30:04
  SPEAKER_05: Sorry.
• 30:04
  SPEAKER_05: I'm mixing up my voice Zora's.
• 30:07
SPEAKER_04: Zora's that one, the brown one.
• 30:09
SPEAKER_04: She was like the most inquisitive.
• 30:11
SPEAKER_04: She was always asking questions.
• 30:12
  SPEAKER_04: Yes.
• 30:13
SPEAKER_04: The one with the white face.
• 30:14
SPEAKER_04: Like brown for a white face, yeah.
• 30:15
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, we're on a podcast.
• 30:16
SPEAKER_04: They can't see my image.
• 30:18
SPEAKER_07: They cannot see your image.
• 30:19
  SPEAKER_07: True.
• 30:19
SPEAKER_07: But maybe one day we'll be a video podcast.
• 30:22
  SPEAKER_07: Maybe one day.
• 30:24
SPEAKER_07: I don't have enough tank top for a video podcast.
• 30:27
SPEAKER_04: You don't have enough tank tops?
• 30:29
  SPEAKER_05: I'm not sure if I do.
• 30:30
SPEAKER_04: Rich always wears a tank top to the podcast.
• 30:33
  SPEAKER_04: You know what?
• 30:33
  SPEAKER_04: I've never noticed that.
• 30:34
SPEAKER_05: No, it's only summertime, Rich.
• 30:36
  SPEAKER_05: This is summer, Rich.
• 30:38
  SPEAKER_05: I'm a summer child.
• 30:39
  SPEAKER_05: He's a summer lamp.
• 30:40
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'd never be.
• 30:42
SPEAKER_07: So I looked it up.
• 30:42
SPEAKER_07: I looked up the winter lamp because I was just like, that is such a strange thing that they just abandoned their young.
• 30:48
  SPEAKER_07: Guess what?
• 30:49
SPEAKER_07: That's a plot device in this movie.
• 30:51
  SPEAKER_07: That's not a thing that happens.
• 30:53
  SPEAKER_07: I was so relieved.
• 30:56
SPEAKER_07: Relieved first and foremost, but also like emotionally manipulated?
• 31:00
  SPEAKER_07: Like, what's up?
• 31:01
SPEAKER_07: Like it actually, like, I will say that brought down my opinion of the movie just a bit.
• 31:06
SPEAKER_04: Wait, so it's just that's like wait, so you want the Winter Lamp to be real, you psycho?
• 31:10
SPEAKER_07: I don't want it to be real, but the fact that they emotionally manipulated me into you know just agonizing for this CGI creature, it kind of bothered me.
• 31:20
SPEAKER_05: But yeah, so like if diabetes like dire wolves, like really weird-looking direwolves weren't ignored, or like the run to the litter.
• 31:29
SPEAKER_04: But I do feel like animals do kind of select they'll select one that they just don't like.
• 31:33
SPEAKER_04: Run some sometimes abandon them.
• 31:35
SPEAKER_07: In in general, runs do get abandoned pretty pretty often.
• 31:39
SPEAKER_07: Like the the ugly ducklings is like an actual phenomenon.
• 31:42
SPEAKER_07: But when it comes to lambs, I don't think they are born in litters.
• 31:47
SPEAKER_07: I think that's just a lamb that is born.
• 31:50
SPEAKER_07: You can have twin lambs, can't you?
• 31:52
  SPEAKER_07: Actually, I don't know.
• 31:52
SPEAKER_07: Uh, something I have to look at.
• 31:54
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, more lamb lore.
• 31:55
SPEAKER_07: We need more lamb lore, I guess.
• 31:57
SPEAKER_07: But the idea of the winter lamb probably stems from the fact that if a lamb is born in winter, it will likely die just because the cold.
• 32:08
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're like completely off.
• 32:09
SPEAKER_04: So they can have a lot of times they do have a singleton.
• 32:13
SPEAKER_04: Twins are very common and considered ideal for sheep farmers.
• 32:16
SPEAKER_04: Triplets are less common but not unusual.
• 32:19
SPEAKER_04: And occasionally they can even have quadruplets.
• 32:22
  SPEAKER_05: Hmm.
• 32:23
  SPEAKER_05: Lamblore.
• 32:24
  SPEAKER_05: Nightmare scenario.
• 32:25
  SPEAKER_04: Nightmare scenario for sure.
• 32:27
SPEAKER_05: Sign up for one and you get a four.
• 32:28
SPEAKER_05: I mean, like this is a shepherd, you'd be happy, but quadruple.
• 32:33
SPEAKER_05: As a human, I would be furious.
• 32:35
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I would freak out.
• 32:37
SPEAKER_06: Anthony's always wanted quadruplets, actually.
• 32:39
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know why.
• 32:40
SPEAKER_02: That'd be insane going from zero kids to three all of a sudden.
• 32:45
  SPEAKER_05: It's crazy.
• 32:46
SPEAKER_05: If you did that, if you did that, could you name them after the like the Fantastic Four?
• 32:51
SPEAKER_05: But like just like name the first one Reed, the second one Susan, but then like name the third one the thing.
• 32:57
SPEAKER_05: Like just like you're the ugly one, kid.
• 33:01
SPEAKER_07: Whichever kid is the fattest.
• 33:03
SPEAKER_04: Twins like run in my family, and when I first was pregnant, for the first like couple of ultrasounds, I'm like, so there is just one, right?
• 33:11
SPEAKER_04: And you're like, yes, we've confirmed multiple times that it's just one child.
• 33:15
SPEAKER_04: We would have told you by now if it was twins.
• 33:17
SPEAKER_04: Like, I just want to make sure that one wasn't lost in there.
• 33:20
  SPEAKER_04: I was very afraid.
• 33:21
  SPEAKER_07: Great.
• 33:22
SPEAKER_04: Not a fan of twins.
• 33:24
  SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
• 33:24
SPEAKER_07: Unless our son ate the other twin.
• 33:26
  SPEAKER_00: What?
• 33:28
  SPEAKER_07: No.
• 33:29
  SPEAKER_07: What was I saying?
• 33:31
  SPEAKER_07: Where will we go?
• 33:32
  SPEAKER_07: So, mystery.
• 33:33
SPEAKER_07: I do like the idea that George Logan was actively reading like murder mysteries to these sheep, and they were I mean, in their own way, they were understanding and listening and just enjoying that the stories.
• 33:50
SPEAKER_07: And on like a a more meta note, I like the idea that you know you can spend time with your animals, and you may not think that they understand you, but maybe they understand more than you think they do.
• 34:04
SPEAKER_07: Obviously, they're not going to learn like murder mystery mechanics.
• 34:07
SPEAKER_07: But I I think that's part of the cozy aspect, Anthony, that you were mentioning.
• 34:12
SPEAKER_07: It's just like when he was reading the murder mysteries to them like on a nightly basis, the fact that they would all just kind of like sit down at the end of the day and you know relax and like listen to their their owner, their shepherd, read a little bit.
• 34:26
SPEAKER_07: I thought that was very wholesome.
• 34:27
SPEAKER_05: The issue isn't thinking you think it's wholesome because you've never taught children, right?
• 34:32
SPEAKER_05: So like the idea that an animal would glean any information from a book is so enraging to me because I teach human children and I read to them.
• 34:44
SPEAKER_05: And you know what happened?
• 34:45
  SPEAKER_05: Children animals?
• 34:46
SPEAKER_04: I mean, how much is this job?
• 34:48
SPEAKER_05: Uh on a I uh listen, it's July it's it is currently July 1st, guys.
• 34:54
SPEAKER_05: I want you to know as a teacher, I just started teaching on July on June 26th.
• 34:58
SPEAKER_05: Alright, it was my last day.
• 35:00
SPEAKER_05: Yes, right now I will say that the only thing part of this movie that I found infuriating was that how easy it is to get any group of animals to listen to what you're reading, because that was just wild to me.
• 35:18
SPEAKER_05: Your wife is a teacher, she knows this.
• 35:20
SPEAKER_04: We can read to them and they will be like I just think like I didn't think of this because I feel like with my pets, they're really good at reading our routines.
• 35:31
SPEAKER_04: And so, like, when we sit down on the couch, they come and sit down next to us, and like we all just chill and watch the stuff.
• 35:36
  SPEAKER_04: That's more what I was thinking.
• 35:37
SPEAKER_04: Or like when my cat can tell when we're washing up to go to bed, and he starts laying his little fake mouse toys by the stairs so we can play fetch before he goes to bed.
• 35:48
SPEAKER_04: So he'll see that I'm brushing my teeth, and he's like, Okay, I'm gonna line up my mice so that she can't not play fetch with me.
• 35:54
SPEAKER_07: And my dog knows when we're going upstairs to sleep, so she will wait for us by the stairs for us all to go up together.
• 36:02
SPEAKER_04: So it's kind of like animals know root they learn routines, and I think that is pretty much what the movies just Yeah, like I don't like I see what you're saying, because like if I read every night, I know my dog would probably come and sit near me, but I would know she's not listening at all.
• 36:18
SPEAKER_04: But I think that's what makes animals so special in comparison to humans.
• 36:22
SPEAKER_04: If humans kind of like students are going to be in a room, they want to know what am I getting out of this experience?
• 36:27
SPEAKER_04: What's the grade that I'm going to be earning?
• 36:30
SPEAKER_04: Or is this going to benefit me on some kind of test?
• 36:32
SPEAKER_04: Like the students are kind of good at perceiving what is valuable to them and what is invaluable.
• 36:38
SPEAKER_04: And so for teachers, it's frustrating because you're trying to get them to listen to things that if they deem it not worth their time, it's really hard to get through to them.
• 36:46
SPEAKER_04: Whereas with pets, like in animals, they just want to spend time with you.
• 36:50
SPEAKER_04: Even if they're not getting anything, like that they're just so easy to please.
• 36:54
SPEAKER_04: And the thing that they're gleaning from the situation is just quality time together, which is really like cozy and comforting.
• 37:02
SPEAKER_07: Oh, it's kind of beautiful.
• 37:03
  SPEAKER_07: Bingo.
• 37:04
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 37:04
  SPEAKER_04: Pets.
• 37:05
SPEAKER_05: Well, you know, you had you guys dog sat for my dog, so you know that my dog has no morals.
• 37:10
  SPEAKER_05: Chewy has no morals.
• 37:11
  SPEAKER_05: No scruples.
• 37:12
  SPEAKER_05: No integrity.
• 37:14
SPEAKER_05: So my dog doesn't my dog is the type of dog that when I let him out of the crate in the morning, lately the best I get is he glances at me as he's hilariously trying to get his way up the stairs to get to my wife.
• 37:27
SPEAKER_05: Like he doesn't care about me.
• 37:29
  SPEAKER_05: He doesn't care.
• 37:30
SPEAKER_05: He just yells at me.
• 37:31
SPEAKER_05: Uh he's not as Who put him in the crate the previous night?
• 37:34
  SPEAKER_05: Um, not me.
• 37:35
SPEAKER_05: I actually never am the one who puts him in the crate.
• 37:37
  SPEAKER_05: No, I uh okay.
• 37:38
SPEAKER_07: I was about to say.
• 37:39
SPEAKER_05: No, I get none of the credit, and he yells at me all the time.
• 37:41
SPEAKER_05: He just barks at me like a winter dog.
• 37:43
SPEAKER_07: Who's who's the one that feeds him?
• 37:46
SPEAKER_05: Uh that would be my mother-in-law.
• 37:48
  SPEAKER_04: Ah, mother-in-law.
• 37:52
SPEAKER_04: So I also like like my dog really favors Dakota.
• 37:57
SPEAKER_04: It's very clear when I'm hanging when it's the three of us, I like to refer to my I don't like to refer to myself as this, but it feels like I'm the ugly girl at the threesome.
• 38:06
SPEAKER_04: Like, and they're they're just like having a blast, and I'm just kind of on the sidelines, like, hey, when do I step in?
• 38:14
SPEAKER_04: You know, like she'll like love Dakota, she'll come cuddle with Dakota, and I'm just kind of sitting there.
• 38:19
SPEAKER_04: But when Dakota's not home, that's when I really thrive.
• 38:22
SPEAKER_04: This morning, she was cuddling with me.
• 38:23
  SPEAKER_02: Jen's the third wheel.
• 38:25
  SPEAKER_04: I take what I can get.
• 38:26
SPEAKER_04: I'm the third wheel in this relationship, but my cat loves me, so at least I got that going for me.
• 38:30
  SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
• 38:31
SPEAKER_05: I really I I I think that aspect of it does I I guess I don't have that similar relationship all the time with my dog, uh, and I don't have a cat.
• 38:42
  SPEAKER_05: I don't believe in cats.
• 38:43
SPEAKER_05: So I just yeah, I I think I think that part is maybe part of the a little bit of what I was missing when I was watching this movie.
• 38:51
SPEAKER_05: I also was, to be fair, uh the first time I watched it was uh outdoors on a 20-foot screen, uh, and it was kind of warm, so I think I was a little grumpy.
• 39:00
SPEAKER_04: Uh wasn't it also during a Knicks game?
• 39:02
SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah, Knicks and five.
• 39:03
SPEAKER_05: So my family uh made me watch this movie what's his name?
• 39:09
SPEAKER_05: So Jack Sparrow had come by my house and dropped the movie off, and then I was able to put it on a 20-foot screen in my backyard, and my wife was very excited about it, and then we found out that the Knicks were playing, and then everybody else in the house said, Oh, no problem, we can still watch sheep detectives.
• 39:27
  SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah.
• 39:28
SPEAKER_07: The sheep detectives, the sheep detectives that you watched, did it perchance have someone whispering to their dog next to them saying, That's you?
• 39:39
SPEAKER_05: I mean, I still can't believe that happened to you.
• 39:42
SPEAKER_05: That's the wildest thing that I've ever heard happen at a movie theater, and I'm you know, I'm from Queens, like I've heard some stuff, but that's a small dog, and then you being given like a vote of no confidence, like the Chancellor.
• 39:58
  SPEAKER_05: Terrible.
• 39:59
SPEAKER_02: Dakota will forever identify as a winter lamb.
• 40:03
SPEAKER_04: Meanwhile, Dakota's like absolutely adored by his family.
• 40:06
SPEAKER_05: No, he's a sweet sort of prince.
• 40:08
SPEAKER_04: I think he's the opposite of a winter lamb.
• 40:10
SPEAKER_04: Like with the grandparents, he's not a winter lamb.
• 40:13
SPEAKER_07: I was born in the fall.
• 40:15
SPEAKER_04: Um one thing that I do love about this, like when talking about the animals kind of understanding the story, is that like they kind of understand it in a sheep way.
• 40:24
SPEAKER_04: So like at the beginning, when they're like, I accuse the lawnmower just cutting grass but never eating it.
• 40:30
  SPEAKER_04: Very suspicious.
• 40:31
  SPEAKER_04: The gardener.
• 40:32
  SPEAKER_04: Or the gardener.
• 40:33
  SPEAKER_07: I I love Patrick Seward's character so much.
• 40:35
SPEAKER_07: He's just so quick to like murderer.
• 40:38
SPEAKER_04: Or like the way that they interpret God is like he's a lamb, but he's also a shepherd, and he's made of bread, but they eat him on Sundays.
• 40:46
SPEAKER_07: That is it is Poor God.
• 40:48
  SPEAKER_07: Poor God.
• 40:49
SPEAKER_07: What did you guys actually at what point did you have your like aha moment that He-Man was the actual killer?
• 40:59
SPEAKER_07: Uh the actor who plays He-Man in the new Masters of the Universe movie.
• 41:02
  SPEAKER_05: Okay.
• 41:03
SPEAKER_05: I'm not just saying this.
• 41:04
SPEAKER_05: My wife watches so many hallmark terrible movies, okay?
• 41:11
SPEAKER_05: She loves like detective stories and it's like cupcake mysteries or something.
• 41:16
SPEAKER_05: They're honestly, it's some of the worst things I've ever watched, but I've watched so many of these things with her that I immediately, when he showed up, I said suspicious, why is he care?
• 41:29
SPEAKER_05: What is like, why is he care?
• 41:31
SPEAKER_05: And the story that he was like, you know, doing whatever, I just I was like nonsense.
• 41:35
SPEAKER_05: And I actually wrote it in my notes app as to not ruin the movie.
• 41:39
SPEAKER_05: And I wrote like, this dude is definitely the one, right?
• 41:43
SPEAKER_05: I was like, I think he might be like a long-lost relative.
• 41:46
SPEAKER_05: And I just wrote that, like the minute he came on screen and put it away, so that when the movie ended, I actually was able to be like, ha! But also I just want to say it's the reason I think I was able to get to that point is because it's so well written.
• 42:00
SPEAKER_05: Like honestly, like I kudos to the movie because I think that when you're able to ascertain who the you know the final villain is, whatever, I think that means that the writing was good.
• 42:12
SPEAKER_05: So it wasn't at a left heel.
• 42:14
SPEAKER_07: Now, are you suggesting that if you cannot figure out all the clues prior to that, then the writing is not good?
• 42:22
  SPEAKER_05: No.
• 42:23
SPEAKER_07: Or it's just it's just like all the clues are present to you as a viewer, you just have to pick them up.
• 42:29
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like I yeah, no, it's one of the things it's not to me, it's not me personally, right?
• 42:33
SPEAKER_05: Like it's I I feel like if you because there are times where I don't get it right, but I I've long enjoyed watching these types of movies and then like writing down who I think it might be.
• 42:45
SPEAKER_05: Um and I enjoy when the the the writer kind of or the rewards me because of the the bird comes they left along the way.
• 42:54
SPEAKER_05: So I think it's really this is really well done.
• 42:57
SPEAKER_05: And I I just I I think that what sometimes when you watch a type of movie like this where the party who gets caught red-handed comes completely out of left field, they've had like no screen time, that irritates me.
• 43:11
SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, that's you know, like a burr notice I used to.
• 43:13
SPEAKER_07: Like if it if it was the uh if it ended up being like the the hotel lady or whatever.
• 43:18
  SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
• 43:19
SPEAKER_07: Uh like lady who runs the end, like who has had no screen time up until this point.
• 43:23
SPEAKER_07: That would have pissed me off.
• 43:24
  SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
• 43:24
SPEAKER_07: Anthony, like, did I personally did not catch it until m maybe like ten minutes before they I don't even know that I actually caught it.
• 43:35
SPEAKER_07: I was just kind of like in I I think I was just very present throughout the movie.
• 43:39
SPEAKER_07: Did you find it really easy to grasp, Anthony?
• 43:43
  SPEAKER_02: No not for me.
• 43:45
SPEAKER_02: I would say that you know, when I come into this where whenever I come into anything that's like a mystery, I always like roll out the obvious ones.
• 43:56
SPEAKER_02: Like I knew obviously it wasn't gonna be the other shepherd.
• 44:00
SPEAKER_02: Or the butcher, you know, and then I w I wasn't really sold on the daughter, and then like and then when she gets arrested with a lot more time in the film, I was like, Yeah, well, she's 100%.
• 44:14
SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, I like I knew for a fact then.
• 44:16
SPEAKER_02: I was like, Yeah, it's definitely not her.
• 44:19
SPEAKER_02: I like to be honest with you, the the reporter or the the son wasn't he wasn't around all the time, so it was easy to kind of like forget him a little bit.
• 44:33
  SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
• 44:36
  SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
• 44:37
SPEAKER_02: And just and I think that was intentional, you know, to kind of like throw a smoke bomb.
• 44:42
SPEAKER_02: And you know, but there were a lot of moments where there there was like some, you know, sussery going on at like with the lawyer, kind of her reaction was like a little a little like cold it seemed, you know, like right after he you know he died and her reaction to to like oh that that it was the daughter.
• 45:03
SPEAKER_02: Like it it just it it didn't seem like convincing.
• 45:06
SPEAKER_02: I was like, hmm, there's something off.
• 45:08
SPEAKER_02: But I mean it it didn't end up being her her only connection to it was the fact that like she got into contact with the son, that's it.
• 45:17
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, no, it was it was pretty good.
• 45:19
SPEAKER_02: I like it when um they do that and I have a hard time figuring it out, you know, when when they like finally show everything, it's like oh okay, that you know, that's good.
• 45:30
SPEAKER_02: Um they should have they could have named this movie Sheeps Out because like it felt like knives out but with sheep.
• 45:37
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
• 45:38
SPEAKER_04: I don't know why my brain went to Sheeps Out for Harambe, and I was like really confused of her and I thought I was like I was like Sheeps Out for Harambe, what is this?
• 45:47
SPEAKER_05: And I thought I thought who let the sheeps out.
• 45:50
SPEAKER_07: And I was thinking like sheeps out for some knife.
• 45:56
SPEAKER_04: We all went to different places.
• 45:59
SPEAKER_07: So yeah, it's probably best I didn't name it sheeps out, to be honest.
• 46:02
SPEAKER_07: Just I I some people would get the reference, but um, yeah.
• 46:07
SPEAKER_04: I I actually usually when I watch mysteries, I am not one of those people who is trying to solve it or unpack it.
• 46:14
SPEAKER_04: I just like watching it all unfold before me.
• 46:16
SPEAKER_04: I don't know why, I don't really care to be like, I figured it out.
• 46:20
SPEAKER_04: But surprisingly, with this movie, I did figure it out.
• 46:23
  SPEAKER_04: I was very shocked.
• 46:24
SPEAKER_04: I was watching it with my brother and his girlfriend in Dakota, and my brother's girlfriend leaned over about halfway through the movie and was like, Who do you think it is?
• 46:33
  SPEAKER_04: And I said, I think it's his son.
• 46:35
SPEAKER_04: They have there is another child, it's the son.
• 46:38
SPEAKER_04: So then if you do a process of elimination, who is the other kid who could be this girl's brother, like twin brother?
• 46:46
SPEAKER_04: And that just kind of left me with that guy.
• 46:48
SPEAKER_04: And I said it to be honest, not really thinking that I was even right.
• 46:52
SPEAKER_04: I was just like, I don't know, I think it's probably that guy because he's the son and he would get the 30 mil.
• 46:57
SPEAKER_04: But yeah, surprisingly, shockingly, for once, I was correct.
• 47:01
  SPEAKER_07: Shockingly.
• 47:02
SPEAKER_07: I was trying to I was I was very adamantly trying to solve another mystery when we were watching this movie.
• 47:10
SPEAKER_07: Not the lady next to me.
• 47:12
SPEAKER_07: I was trying to figure out when the movie takes place because you know, this was I'm still like collecting dates for my long live the the timeline project, and you know, it's a very easy reconstruction, like starts on a Sunday, he goes, uh, he barges into the church, the next day is when the the kids come to you know meet him at night, he dies.
• 47:39
SPEAKER_07: The third day is the town founds finds out, blah blah blah.
• 47:44
SPEAKER_07: So I was like, okay, so long as they give me one date, like when when does he die?
• 47:50
  SPEAKER_07: When is she imprisoned?
• 47:51
SPEAKER_07: Or when do they catch the the actual villain?
• 47:55
SPEAKER_07: Then I can like reconstruct the entire timeline from there.
• 47:58
SPEAKER_07: Bro, there are no dates that are usable in this.
• 48:01
  SPEAKER_07: I I can't figure out a year.
• 48:03
SPEAKER_07: I I even like they actually have like a like a prisoner form, like a for the prisoner being transported for Rebecca that they show briefly.
• 48:12
SPEAKER_07: And I took a picture of it today, and everything else is super legible, but date of birth is literal chicken scratch.
• 48:20
SPEAKER_07: It's it is there's not a single discernible number in that it's it's it's hold on, I want to see if I can show you guys.
• 48:27
  SPEAKER_07: Oh man.
• 48:28
SPEAKER_05: It's hard to see, but I mean personally, I'm not gonna lie to you.
• 48:32
SPEAKER_05: I don't think that knowing the timeline of events really has ever made me enjoy anything more.
• 48:38
SPEAKER_05: Like, I does that impact your enjoyment?
• 48:41
SPEAKER_07: No, you know, actually, it does not, and it does not impact my enjoyment.
• 48:45
SPEAKER_05: My wife is actively pushing me because I can see that she feels that I'm trolling you too much right here, so apologies.
• 48:51
SPEAKER_07: Well, no, I'm trolling myself.
• 48:53
  SPEAKER_07: I'm trolling myself.
• 48:54
SPEAKER_07: Like, I'm I'm the one saying, like, I this is a ridiculous mystery that I'm trying to solve, and I cannot solve it because they they do not allow me that the the briefest of a glimpse of like even like the date of birth of a character.
• 49:08
SPEAKER_04: It is like so sad when I watch stuff with Dakota and there's no dates, and you could see like anytime there's like a form on the screen, he gets all excited and he's like, gotta go back, gotta pause it.
• 49:17
SPEAKER_04: And then he just stares and he with this, it happens like there's two forms, and twice he's just so disappointed.
• 49:23
SPEAKER_07: I still really enjoy it.
• 49:24
SPEAKER_07: I still have a really good time.
• 49:26
SPEAKER_04: I feel like it's been a streak though on the podcast of like we've been watching stuff with not a lot of dates.
• 49:31
  SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
• 49:32
SPEAKER_04: Uh I feel like it's every time I actually it's every time I recommend something, there's no date.
• 49:37
SPEAKER_04: My link making this up, because wasn't it?
• 49:40
SPEAKER_07: There were a couple dates.
• 49:41
SPEAKER_07: I was able to reconstruct the Godzilla Kong and New Empire movie.
• 49:45
SPEAKER_07: That that one I was able to figure out.
• 49:48
  SPEAKER_07: So that was good.
• 49:49
SPEAKER_07: So it it happens occasionally.
• 49:51
SPEAKER_07: There are dates in Dungeon Crawler Carl that we did last week's.
• 49:54
  SPEAKER_07: True.
• 49:54
SPEAKER_07: I was able to map those two first floors that we covered on last week's podcast.
• 50:00
SPEAKER_07: So anyway, it's a possible thing that occasionally is nice for my side project.
• 50:05
SPEAKER_07: But uh final thoughts on the sheep detectives.
• 50:09
  SPEAKER_07: Jen.
• 50:10
