- 0:00Imagine waking up one morning to find your clear vision suddenly clouded and blurred.
- 0:08What would you do?
- 0:10Stick around and I'll tell you how a scare like this turned into a lesson in patience and self-care.
- 0:18Last Tuesday, my right eye began to hurt and I noticed my vision was slowly getting blurred.
- 0:24Since eye problems run in my family, I didn't take any chances.
- 0:28I rushed to urgent care, terrified, I was experiencing a retinal detachment.
- 0:34After getting front row seats at the ophthalmologist office and undergoing
- 0:39several scans, the diagnosis came in: not a retinal detachment, thank goodness, but a Posterior vitreous detachment, PVD.
- 0:51several scans, the diagnosis came in: Ever heard of it?
- 0:52several scans, the diagnosis came in: Me neither, until that day.
- 0:55several scans, the diagnosis came in: I don't know about you, but hearing" PVD" was just as scary as the symptoms.
- 1:01several scans, the diagnosis came in: My perfect 20/20 vision dropped to 20/50 in what felt like minutes.
- 1:07several scans, the diagnosis came in: And here's the kicker- there's no quick fix.
- 1:11several scans, the diagnosis came in: I was told my vision might improve within a few weeks or even three months.
- 1:16several scans, the diagnosis came in: But that's not the end of the story.
- 1:19several scans, the diagnosis came in: I had to leave with more questions than answers, waiting on tests that could not be done that day.
- 1:26several scans, the diagnosis came in: How do you think I handled that uncertainty?
- 1:29several scans, the diagnosis came in: Keep watching and I'll reveal how this moment became A moment of true grace.
- 1:36several scans, the diagnosis came in: Why am I sharing this with you on Create the Best Me?
- 1:40several scans, the diagnosis came in: Because this eye opening incident,(pun intended), reminded me of the importance of pacing ourselves.
- 1:49several scans, the diagnosis came in: Midlife isn't just a time for reflection.
- 1:52several scans, the diagnosis came in: It's a time for action too, but a different kind of action.
- 1:57several scans, the diagnosis came in: One that respects our limits and embraces our vulnerabilities.
- 2:02several scans, the diagnosis came in: Sometimes we can't push to produce at the same pace we used to, and that's perfectly okay.
- 2:09several scans, the diagnosis came in: Recognizing when to slow down is a skill, one that takes courage.
- 2:16several scans, the diagnosis came in: and honesty.
- 2:17several scans, the diagnosis came in: This experience taught me to listen more closely to what my body is trying to say.
- 2:24several scans, the diagnosis came in: But how did I really feel about not being able to meet my usual standards?
- 2:30several scans, the diagnosis came in: In a moment I'll share why learning to let go and give myself a little grace is not just necessary but liberating.
- 2:39several scans, the diagnosis came in: Midlife is our time, a time to be kinder to ourselves, to slow down when needed so we can speed up when it matters.
- 2:49several scans, the diagnosis came in: When was the last time you listened to your body, saw a challenge as a chance to step back and say, "I got you"?.
- 2:58several scans, the diagnosis came in: Give yourself grace isn't just about accepting limits; it's about redefining what success looks like as we age.
- 3:07several scans, the diagnosis came in: So back to my day at the ophthalmologist- there I was, faced with a potentially months long recovery for my vision, yet strangely, at peace, I had embraced the unpredictability with calm I never knew I had.
- 3:25several scans, the diagnosis came in: And that's a message I want to leave with you today.
- 3:29several scans, the diagnosis came in: In midlife, let's vow to turn our challenges into opportunities for growth and self-compassion.
- 3:37several scans, the diagnosis came in: For a copy of today's show notes or transcripts, head on over to createthebestme.com/ep079.
