- 0:03Speaker 1: This is it the end of the Winter Meetings, and
- 0:05Speaker 1: you know what that means? Everything will start happening. Well, yes,
- 0:09Speaker 1: no more backpacks, that's the easy answer from Krafts. But
- 0:12Speaker 1: also everything will start happening. Why there's no deadline, so
- 0:15Speaker 1: things will happen now tonight.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Mar My question is why does kraft take backpack so much?
- 0:20Speaker 3: I love backpack.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I love backpacks. Like what Krafts?
- 0:23Speaker 4: Are you like one of those people that has the
- 0:25Speaker 4: wheelie the little wheelie suitcase when you go around like,
- 0:29Speaker 4: not a backpack, Like, I don't get what you're such
- 0:31Speaker 4: a backpack hater.
- 0:32Speaker 5: If you saw all the backpacks that went by, it
- 0:35Speaker 5: looks like some people are hault like their shurpas, like
- 0:38Speaker 5: they're hauling their entire life around with them. It's like
- 0:41Speaker 5: you're at the Winter Meetings. Like our guy right back there,
- 0:45Speaker 5: Shy DAVIDI he just he just walked by, good backpack wearing.
- 0:49Speaker 5: We got some people that are rocking all of Peter
- 0:52Speaker 5: Alonzo's money in it. That's what it looks like. So
- 0:55Speaker 5: that's all I love back.
- 0:57Speaker 4: I mean, you don't. You don't want to see my backpack.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Backpack is like my go back so it has all
- 1:02Speaker 4: kinds of stuff and it has I closed for three weeks.
- 1:05Speaker 4: It's got like a fair shoes I fold up in it.
- 1:07Speaker 4: It's got all my bathroom stuff, it's got my all
- 1:10Speaker 4: my cords, It's got everything in it. So I can't
- 1:13Speaker 4: make fun of anyone with the backpack like backpacks or
- 1:15Speaker 4: where it's at.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, there was one guy walking by an Orioles. Guy
- 1:18Speaker 1: had a big orange Orioles logo and his backpack was
- 1:21Speaker 1: like this big.
- 1:22Speaker 3: It had all of Pete Alonzo's money in it.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Oh, every every busin So let's hit breaking news. The
- 1:31Speaker 1: polar Bear has left the Mets. Five years, one hundred
- 1:36Speaker 1: and fifty five million dollars gets him to the Baltimore Orioles.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Orioles made a big bid that essentially matched what the
- 1:45Speaker 1: Phillies through at Kyle Schwarber. That was according to Ken Rosenthal,
- 1:48Speaker 1: who had great reporting. And we'll be on our show later,
- 1:52Speaker 1: but we learned that Pete Alonso will instead be the
- 1:55Speaker 1: guy that the Oriols bring in to be their big
- 1:57Speaker 1: power bat to help get these young guys to a
- 2:00Speaker 1: better spot and get the Oils back into the postseason.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Also, don't forget, I mean they added a ward Taylor
- 2:06Speaker 4: Ward right, yep. So they've started adding bats and then
- 2:10Speaker 4: they hope Athley bounces back. They have Basaio, they have Gunner.
- 2:13Speaker 4: They're hoping Jackson Holiday takes the next step, Cowser takes
- 2:16Speaker 4: the next step. Like this is this is how you
- 2:19Speaker 4: do it right, This is how you build an organization.
- 2:23Speaker 4: And when you get to that point, now, they need
- 2:25Speaker 4: some pitching, and especially in that division.
- 2:28Speaker 2: They're gonna need some pitching. And as happy as I am.
- 2:31Speaker 4: For the Orioles right now, because we've we've banged the
- 2:33Speaker 4: Orioles drummed to death, like we need the Oriols to
- 2:35Speaker 4: do this, we need the Oriels to do this. Michaelia's
- 2:38Speaker 4: way to go. The new ownership. We saw Adam Jones,
- 2:40Speaker 4: we saw them Jones walk Why he didn't even tell
- 2:42Speaker 4: us about this? So I don't even know what's happening right,
- 2:45Speaker 4: But here's my question.
- 2:48Speaker 2: What are the Mets doing? What where are you?
- 2:52Speaker 4: Mister met Like what are we happening here with Uncle
- 2:54Speaker 4: Stevie Cohen? Like what if you're a Mets fan, you
- 2:57Speaker 4: lost Edwin Diaz and now you've lost Pete a Lonzo
- 2:59Speaker 4: and twenty four hours, what's happening up there in Queens
- 3:03Speaker 4: in the seven train and all that. Are they too
- 3:06Speaker 4: worried about building that casino in that new area they're building.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Around city Field? Like what Pete Alonzo.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Shoot, they didn't make the playoffs last year and they said,
- 3:13Speaker 1: fuck this, We're doing something different.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I mean, okay, I'm I'm gonna not I'm gonna not
- 3:22Speaker 5: bag on the Mets here because I bagged on the
- 3:24Speaker 5: Pirates yesterday and my Twitter page just melted away with
- 3:28Speaker 5: all the visceral just hate of what I was saying.
- 3:32Speaker 5: But so I'm gonna go with the Orioles. Does anybody
- 3:35Speaker 5: know how many home runs the highest amount of home
- 3:38Speaker 5: runs on the twenty twenty five Orioles was. It was
- 3:41Speaker 5: Gunnar Gunner, Gunner, Jackson Holliday, and Jordan Westberg all had
- 3:48Speaker 5: seventeen home runs to add Pede Alonzo. Rarely can you
- 3:52Speaker 5: say this guy is a forty home run power guy,
- 3:56Speaker 5: like you say, oh he's hit forty. He's normally more
- 3:59Speaker 5: like a thirty five, but his potential is forty. This
- 4:02Speaker 5: guy is a pencil him in for forty home runs.
- 4:07Speaker 5: It could be fifty to fifty five. He will change
- 4:10Speaker 5: this lineup and he will this is a huge step
- 4:14Speaker 5: in the right direction. I just hope the Orioles are
- 4:17Speaker 5: not saying, all right, we're just gonna go with the
- 4:20Speaker 5: pitchers that we got, which are good. Bradish you know,
- 4:23Speaker 5: Tyler Wells, I think will be back. You have a
- 4:25Speaker 5: great year from Rogers Grayson soon too soon, but you
- 4:30Speaker 5: know you're gonna have some good pitching. I just need
- 4:34Speaker 5: them to add to that pitching, because then they become
- 4:36Speaker 5: a formidable piece. Formidable piece in the American League East,
- 4:40Speaker 5: which the Red Sox have made the little moves, the
- 4:44Speaker 5: Blue Jays have made big moves. The Orioles now have
- 4:47Speaker 5: made big moves. The Yankees are just waiting right now.
- 4:52Speaker 5: So this is a fun American League East.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Yeah, this team had a brutal season this past season.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Talking about Baltimore, Yeah, they just improved their offense with
- 5:00Speaker 1: power significant guys over the last few weeks.
- 5:04Speaker 4: But they have not improved the biggest problem they have pitching. Yes,
- 5:07Speaker 4: because now I used to just I mean, listen, I
- 5:09Speaker 4: love I love the healthy signing and I love bringing
- 5:11Speaker 4: Kittridge back. So I love both of those moves to
- 5:15Speaker 4: help the bullpen. But you trade away Grayson. Can Rogers
- 5:18Speaker 4: do it again? What else do they have? Bradish?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Where's he? Kramer?
- 5:23Speaker 4: Where's he? They don't have Batista? You know, is is
- 5:27Speaker 4: e Flyn? What's where's he at? Like there's all these
- 5:30Speaker 4: well he's not there anymore. He's there right now, guys.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Trevor Rodgers, okay, who was brilliant, but two years ago
- 5:36Speaker 4: he was in triple A and could get anybody out.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Kyle Bradish coming off.
- 5:40Speaker 1: This'll be another full season top of surgery, Dean Kramer,
- 5:44Speaker 1: Tyler Wells, cade Povich.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Yes, exactly.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Do you trust that now against Garrett Cole, Max Free, Carlos, Roddan,
- 5:53Speaker 4: Louis Heel now in one, and then you go to
- 5:56Speaker 4: Dylan Cees, Kevin Cousman, Burrios, you say Avage, that whole crew,
- 6:01Speaker 4: and then you go to the Crochet and Sonny Gray
- 6:03Speaker 4: and that whole crew plus the Rays with McClanahan and
- 6:07Speaker 4: all of them coming back.
- 6:08Speaker 3: They have by far the worst pitching in the AD.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It's not even close.
- 6:10Speaker 3: But now their lineup is up.
- 6:13Speaker 2: To par Yeah close, but you win the rest of
- 6:16Speaker 2: the division, win with no I know.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But this this to me means all right, good krats
- 6:21Speaker 1: offense done. This a lineup where you look at it
- 6:23Speaker 1: on paper and you're like, Jackson Holiday, what is he
- 6:26Speaker 1: twenty two? Jordan Westburg, Gunner Henderson. Now you added Pete
- 6:32Speaker 1: Atlee Rutchman, you added Taylor Ward outfields, Cowser, maybe Dylan
- 6:38Speaker 1: Beaver's and then besioh too.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Seeing where he plays right could be a little bit.
- 6:44Speaker 4: What's interesting though, is Basio every Orios person were like,
- 6:48Speaker 4: we're not sure if he's gonna catch. He can be
- 6:49Speaker 4: a first base slash dch Kyle, Well, now I ain't
- 6:53Speaker 4: playing first base because PiZZ there and now they still
- 6:55Speaker 4: have Adlee.
- 6:55Speaker 2: So now is he just he's a twenty two year
- 6:57Speaker 2: old dh.
- 6:59Speaker 5: May that's crazy. I mean his bat, his bat plays,
- 7:02Speaker 5: it's definitely there. Obviously had some struggles when he first
- 7:05Speaker 5: came up. Is that like it's it's funny that you
- 7:09Speaker 5: would you would hamstring him like that. Are the Orioles
- 7:12Speaker 5: willing to make Bosaillo the everyday catcher? No, I don't
- 7:15Speaker 5: think so. But are they looking to the future when
- 7:18Speaker 5: Ali Rutchman does not re sign with this team.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yes, would they trade Adley?
- 7:26Speaker 4: They could get a haul, They could get some pitching
- 7:28Speaker 4: in a trade. If there's teams out there, I look
- 7:31Speaker 4: at a Texas Rangers team that might need a catcher
- 7:34Speaker 4: to pair with Higgey. Right, there's some teams out there
- 7:37Speaker 4: that could use some Philly Maybe if Philly doesn't sign
- 7:41Speaker 4: j T, would they make a move and try to
- 7:43Speaker 4: give up somebody to get a ADLEI Rutchman? I mean
- 7:46Speaker 4: would would the would Michael Yas? It's about possible making
- 7:50Speaker 4: a move for pitching that way because you have Basillo there.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Clearly Michael Yas doesn't want anything to do with any
- 7:57Speaker 5: free agent long long term pitching. He's fine with free
- 8:00Speaker 5: agent pitchers, but long term pitching, you know. So now
- 8:05Speaker 5: you look to the teams. Is there a match where
- 8:07Speaker 5: it's Adlie that has pitching? Does do they want to trade?
- 8:13Speaker 5: Do the Twins want Adlie Rutchman? You know there's pitching there.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Do the Marlins want Adlie Rutchman? There's pitching there there?
- 8:20Speaker 5: You know, you got to look at the matchups and
- 8:24Speaker 5: you know where that where that if if they're saying yes,
- 8:27Speaker 5: we would move ADLEI obviously it's a huge if to me.
- 8:29Speaker 5: I think he's still a top can be a top
- 8:32Speaker 5: tier player.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Also, do we have the full evaluation on Samuel Bessillo yet?
- 8:40Speaker 1: As a big league catcher, if there were some question marks,
- 8:43Speaker 1: I mean, the bat should play. So I think they're
- 8:46Speaker 1: going to figure it out. And yeah, it could open
- 8:48Speaker 1: them up to trade thoughts. But for me, I don't
- 8:51Speaker 1: think they're going to touch this. I think this is
- 8:53Speaker 1: the lineup they're rolling with.
- 8:54Speaker 2: That's fine, it's a it's a solid lineup.
- 8:57Speaker 3: They'll get Peede off his legs a little bit. Let's
- 8:59Speaker 3: just listen.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Pete doesn't care anymore because Pete just got five years exactly,
- 9:04Speaker 2: so if he doesn't need be like, okay, I don't
- 9:05Speaker 2: need to.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Prove my worth as a first base and now I'm okay.
- 9:07Speaker 4: It's like the hater thing, right for years, I'll only
- 9:10Speaker 4: throw the one inning, and well, now I got my
- 9:11Speaker 4: five years, hundred, I'll do whatever you want now because
- 9:14Speaker 4: I got paid. And and good for Pete, man, Like,
- 9:16Speaker 4: Pete's not gonna not want to play. Pete plays every day,
- 9:18Speaker 4: so when he's not playing first, he still want a
- 9:20Speaker 4: DH so he's gonna be in the lineup again. Good
- 9:23Speaker 4: for you Orioles fans, Good for the Oriols organization. Good
- 9:26Speaker 4: for you Micha Elias, Good for you Rubinstein's yep, everything right.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Good for you can Yard is gonna be rocking again.
- 9:33Speaker 4: I'll go get some pitching, but I I just can't
- 9:35Speaker 4: get over the Mets. The Mets sauce, you can argue,
- 9:39Speaker 4: but like two guys, homegrown dudes man for the Mets,
- 9:43Speaker 4: Edwin Diaz in the all time traded you know what,
- 9:47Speaker 4: I'm yes, early early, but he basically grew up in
- 9:51Speaker 4: big league career as a Met, like if.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Pete Alonso drafted all the way through all time home.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Run leader for the Mets, gone, gone, gone. And but
- 10:00Speaker 4: they all people say is Steve Cohen has all this money,
- 10:02Speaker 4: he can never get outspent by anybody. And now they're saying, oh,
- 10:05Speaker 4: we weren't comfortable.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Of course, teams.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Always say that when a guy leaves, oh we weren't comfortable.
- 10:10Speaker 4: But I don't know, it's it's weird. Nemo's gone now,
- 10:14Speaker 4: it's it's they've lost big pieces.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And how will they replace him?
- 10:18Speaker 4: I know David Stearns has this thing that he does,
- 10:21Speaker 4: but how are the Mets going to replace these pieces?
- 10:24Speaker 4: How are they going to replace the home runs? How
- 10:25Speaker 4: are they going to replace Pete A Lonzo in the clubhouse?
- 10:27Speaker 4: Are they going to replace the ninth inning I know
- 10:29Speaker 4: they got Devin Williams, but how are you going to
- 10:31Speaker 4: replace you know, Diz Devin.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's just it's a lot.
- 10:35Speaker 1: They were pissed as an organization would be. They didn't
- 10:38Speaker 1: make the playoffs. That payroll is off the charts for
- 10:42Speaker 1: a team to not make the playoffs and frankly look
- 10:45Speaker 1: pretty pitiful down the stretch. The only thing that's funny
- 10:48Speaker 1: to me is I feel like there was a clear
- 10:50Speaker 1: cut reason why they didn't make the playoffs, and it
- 10:52Speaker 1: was the pitching. So getting rid of Pete, getting rid
- 10:55Speaker 1: of Nemo, I don't know.
- 10:57Speaker 4: I mean their closer, I mean, they get rid of
- 11:00Speaker 4: them guys too, but getting rid of Deals who had
- 11:03Speaker 4: a really good year. Look at his numbers.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Basically, it's like you look and say, hey, we got
- 11:06Speaker 1: to blow this up quite a bit and find a
- 11:09Speaker 1: different mix. But I feel krats, like the players that
- 11:12Speaker 1: are taking the brunt of that are not the ones
- 11:15Speaker 1: that were the problem.
- 11:18Speaker 5: It's a different route. I mean, I guess there's different
- 11:22Speaker 5: way to skin a cat. I just I don't I
- 11:25Speaker 5: don't see it. But I know David Sterns has a plan,
- 11:30Speaker 5: and maybe that plan is, you know, maybe we'll just
- 11:33Speaker 5: linger around and then once all these National League East
- 11:36Speaker 5: contracts get old, then we'll then we'll pounce. No, I
- 11:39Speaker 5: know that's not his plan. I'm excited to see what
- 11:42Speaker 5: he's gonna do because there's a lot of freed up
- 11:45Speaker 5: money right now. Like the fact that you're not paying Diaz.
- 11:48Speaker 5: I guess you have to still pay Devin Williams, and
- 11:50Speaker 5: it's not that big of a difference you're not paying Pete.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Like I I'm excited. I think I think Sterns will
- 11:58Speaker 5: do something. I'm just fearful the fact that the report's
- 12:03Speaker 5: coming out that they're not willing to go to that
- 12:06Speaker 5: fifth year. Maybe they were willing to go the thirty
- 12:08Speaker 5: million a year, but they're not thirty a year.
- 12:12Speaker 3: No, I'm getting fresh stuff for you. Ready for it?
- 12:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm always for it.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Okay, John Hayman, Joel Sherman, among others.
- 12:19Speaker 1: There's there's a lot of tweets coming in fast and
- 12:21Speaker 1: furious that the Mets were essentially surprised that Pete got
- 12:26Speaker 1: five years. Will Salmon from the Athletics said the Mets
- 12:29Speaker 1: had some interest in bringing Pete back, but they were
- 12:31Speaker 1: not comfortable going to the lengths and figured it ended
- 12:34Speaker 1: up it ended up, but in his deal with the
- 12:37Speaker 1: Orioles it was a much better. His tweet not making
- 12:41Speaker 1: sense to me. Sorry, Anthony Tacobo, I think he misspelled.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Anthony Diacomo said. The Mets never made a formal offer
- 12:47Speaker 1: to Pete Alnzo as it became clear to them the
- 12:49Speaker 1: bidding wasn't heading to places they were interested in going.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Well. Sherman said the same thing, Joel Sherman.
- 12:55Speaker 5: Good for Pete. We thought he was going to get
- 12:57Speaker 5: five years one fifty last year, so he got whatever
- 13:01Speaker 5: he got last year, twenty.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Thirty, got a total.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Of five over you got thirty last year counting last year,
- 13:09Speaker 1: six years one eighty five. And if you took Pete
- 13:11Speaker 1: the free agency last year and said, hey six eighty
- 13:13Speaker 1: five years, sign up for that.
- 13:14Speaker 3: In a freaking harpy, god Boris got him again.
- 13:16Speaker 2: God Boris got him out the city.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Matt Chapman got him. Bragman's gonna get him got him.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, opt out for stars are usually a pretty
- 13:26Speaker 1: good idea.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yep, what do they do?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Now?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Who?
- 13:31Speaker 5: Who the Mets?
- 13:34Speaker 2: I mean? Kroud Caidy, he had a bring back Frankie Montoss.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Find the next montask I said, that Crouds.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Krouch said, David Sarns has a plan, I said, bring
- 13:43Speaker 4: back Frankie Montos.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I don't know what they're gonna do.
- 13:46Speaker 4: I mean, they're they're they're kind of in a weird
- 13:48Speaker 4: spot because you have one Sodo, you have Lindor, you got,
- 13:51Speaker 4: you got guys. You got to try and go for
- 13:54Speaker 4: it with. But Darren ask our next guest. But I
- 13:57Speaker 4: don't know what they do.
- 13:58Speaker 5: That's a problem. Did they go after Bragman and move
- 14:03Speaker 5: Viento's to first base? Is Bragman a better pickup than
- 14:06Speaker 5: Pete Alonzo? You're never You're never going to find Pete's
- 14:10Speaker 5: Homer's anywhere on the market. Sorry, not Kyle Tucker, not
- 14:15Speaker 5: Cody Bellinger, none of that.
- 14:18Speaker 1: It was Schwarber and Pete and they basically got the
- 14:20Speaker 1: same deal. We talked about this yesterday. Kratz I said, Hey,
- 14:25Speaker 1: teams like Baltimore didn't get Schwarber, and Baltimore was the
- 14:28Speaker 1: top bidder with Philly, right, they both offered five to
- 14:31Speaker 1: one fifty. And I was asking you how much of
- 14:34Speaker 1: a difference it is between the two players. They're both
- 14:37Speaker 1: monster home run hitters. Yes, Schwarber hit many more.
- 14:40Speaker 2: This year.
- 14:40Speaker 1: It is a more hitter friendly park in Philadelphia than
- 14:46Speaker 1: in Queens.
- 14:47Speaker 3: That is a fact.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So you wait the numbers and they were very close
- 14:51Speaker 1: even last year, where this past season, when just like
- 14:54Speaker 1: an Alf Swrober had an incredible season, it was right there,
- 14:58Speaker 1: very close in terms of metrics that front office is
- 15:00Speaker 1: used to evaluate bats. You're not signing Pee for his defense.
- 15:04Speaker 1: You're signing him for his bat and eventually he might
- 15:07Speaker 1: just be a full time DH, and that is okay.
- 15:10Speaker 1: So if you're Baltimore and you were going to sign
- 15:11Speaker 1: a full time DH, you got the quote next best guy.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Well, you know what, I'm proud of them more than anything.
- 15:18Speaker 4: With the Orioles, they put it out there that they.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Were in on Schwarber and they had the money.
- 15:23Speaker 4: And then, unlike some teams that say like I'm gonna
- 15:26Speaker 4: use the Pirates, we keep banging on the pirates, IM
- 15:28Speaker 4: want to keep banging on the pirates. The Pirates said,
- 15:30Speaker 4: we had four years one hundred million or four years
- 15:32Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty million, right, whatever their offer was
- 15:34Speaker 4: to Kyle Schwarber. Even the Reds, We'll throw the Reds
- 15:36Speaker 4: out there. The Reds are whatever.
- 15:39Speaker 2: The red yeah whatever.
- 15:41Speaker 4: So they're admitting that they have that money to spend,
- 15:43Speaker 4: so why don't they turn and pivot and go spend
- 15:46Speaker 4: it somewhere else. The Orioles did that. The Orioles made
- 15:49Speaker 4: their offer to Swarber, he didn't pick them. He went
- 15:51Speaker 4: back to the Phillies. They took that money and said,
- 15:52Speaker 4: you know what, we're going to go for the next
- 15:54Speaker 4: best thing, which is Pete Alonso. And they had to
- 15:56Speaker 4: pay five million dollars more. But that five million dollars
- 15:59Speaker 4: over five years is no okay. And they said, boom,
- 16:02Speaker 4: we have this money. We've told people we have this money,
- 16:04Speaker 4: and we're going for it. So kudos Orioles into the
- 16:08Speaker 4: other teams. I don't understand how, like the especially the
- 16:10Speaker 4: Reds and the Pirates, we have this money, but we're
- 16:12Speaker 4: not gonna spend it on anyone else. Now, We're just
- 16:14Speaker 4: gonna hoard our money.
- 16:15Speaker 3: No, I mean, there are many free agents left.
- 16:17Speaker 2: But you know what I'm saying.
- 16:19Speaker 3: They well, they might take the Pirates.
- 16:20Speaker 4: They're gonna take that whatever money they had for Kyle
- 16:23Speaker 4: Schwarber a hundred million and say we're gonna spend it
- 16:25Speaker 4: on someone else.
- 16:26Speaker 1: They should have spent it on Pete I mean, like
- 16:28Speaker 1: I said, there's similar offensive comps. Pete's two years younger.
- 16:31Speaker 1: But good for the Baltimore Oriols for coming through there.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Tim Healy is here and we're gonna talk to him
- 16:38Speaker 1: right now about the Mets. Actually, Tim, we're gonna take
- 16:40Speaker 1: you back in the day when you cover the Mets.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Eventually we'll get into the Red Sox with Tim too.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But I mean, this is the news that sweeps the day,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and you covered Pete Alnso for a long time.
- 16:50Speaker 6: Your longtime.
- 16:52Speaker 7: The Mets had a lot of work to do coming
- 16:54Speaker 7: into the week, and now they have so much more
- 16:56Speaker 7: work to do, and I don't know how they're gonna
- 16:58Speaker 7: do it all. They didn't, they don't have that Diez.
- 17:00Speaker 7: They I don't think they were ever gonna gonna keep
- 17:03Speaker 7: Pete Alonzo.
- 17:03Speaker 6: They didn't.
- 17:03Speaker 7: They seem kind of lukewarm on him at best the
- 17:05Speaker 7: whole time. But where are you gonna get those home runs?
- 17:10Speaker 7: As you guys were saying, how are you gonna get
- 17:12Speaker 7: a frontline starting pitcher, How are you gonna get another
- 17:14Speaker 7: back end reliever or two?
- 17:16Speaker 2: Uh?
- 17:17Speaker 7: So they have David Stearns is a smart guy. I'll
- 17:22Speaker 7: probably figure it out. But man, they have a lot
- 17:25Speaker 7: of work.
- 17:25Speaker 4: To do, Okay, so I know we're gonna get to
- 17:27Speaker 4: the red sux to you, but the Mets, to me,
- 17:28Speaker 4: are as happy as I'm for the Oreos.
- 17:30Speaker 2: It's as if you're a Mets fan, you're like, wait,
- 17:32Speaker 2: what what happened? The last men?
- 17:33Speaker 6: Fans are desponding.
- 17:34Speaker 4: I feel, yes, right, big pieces. But they still have Sodo,
- 17:38Speaker 4: they still have Lindor.
- 17:39Speaker 2: They still have pieces, right, yeah.
- 17:41Speaker 4: If they don't do anything is do you And I
- 17:44Speaker 4: can't believe I'm about to say this. Do you think
- 17:45Speaker 4: Wan Soto's looking at it like, why the heck did
- 17:47Speaker 4: I sign here if all these guys are now gone?
- 17:50Speaker 7: If he doesn't have a At Wan Soto's introductory press
- 17:54Speaker 7: conference basically a year ago this week, he said straight
- 17:59Speaker 7: up that he what the Mets needed after signing him
- 18:02Speaker 7: was a big right handed bat. That was a not
- 18:05Speaker 7: so subtle reference to his fellow Scott Ars client Pete Alonzo.
- 18:09Speaker 7: Mets waited it out, eventually got him back on the
- 18:11Speaker 7: deal that they did, and it worked out at least
- 18:14Speaker 7: for those two statistically, not for the team. Of course,
- 18:16Speaker 7: they missed the playoffs. They had a bad year, but
- 18:19Speaker 7: without Pete behind Soto. Somebody needs to be They need
- 18:24Speaker 7: right handed power from somebody, and they don't necessarily, they
- 18:27Speaker 7: really don't have that in house, all right, So.
- 18:30Speaker 5: I'm gonna try to transition your previous team to your
- 18:34Speaker 5: current team here.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Yeah, does this?
- 18:36Speaker 5: Oh, it obviously opens up first base. The logical thing
- 18:39Speaker 5: is they're gonna go Viento's to first just because that's
- 18:43Speaker 5: just the generic rhetoric that we just keep hearing. Is
- 18:47Speaker 5: there a chance David Stearns likes and Alex Bregman at
- 18:52Speaker 5: third better than the combination of Mark Vento said third
- 18:56Speaker 5: and Pete at first because of the ad in defense,
- 19:00Speaker 5: because of the added leadership winning that Alex Bregman brings.
- 19:05Speaker 5: And you know, the money's gonna be whatever, twenty million
- 19:08Speaker 5: apart it.
- 19:11Speaker 7: So I wonder as well about Alex Bregman and the
- 19:14Speaker 7: Mets because he would make a lot of sense for
- 19:16Speaker 7: them because they could use a guy like him. And
- 19:21Speaker 7: if they didn't want to give them money to Pete,
- 19:23Speaker 7: do they want to give it to Alex Bregman, who's
- 19:25Speaker 7: just a little bit older, better defender, had an injury
- 19:28Speaker 7: last year. Like, there's a lot of moving pieces there,
- 19:31Speaker 7: But from what I understand they really like Brett Batty
- 19:34Speaker 7: and he's penciled in that third base right now.
- 19:36Speaker 6: So I don't know what Mark Fiento's steal is going
- 19:38Speaker 6: to be.
- 19:39Speaker 7: Maybe first base, maybe some Jeff McNeil at first base.
- 19:42Speaker 7: Maybe they add somebody like Paul Goldschmidt. He had a
- 19:47Speaker 7: great twenty twenty four and then not great twenty twenty five.
- 19:51Speaker 7: So I don't know what to make of Mark Fiento's
- 19:54Speaker 7: I don't so, and I'm not sure the Mets do either.
- 19:59Speaker 6: Hence, where does he fit in?
- 20:00Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:01Speaker 6: Maybe part time for his base.
- 20:02Speaker 7: That's not really a huge, huge role, So there's DHT
- 20:06Speaker 7: bats to be had. Like I said, the Mets have
- 20:10Speaker 7: a lot.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Of holes and.
- 20:14Speaker 7: Aren't really spending big on individual players right now to
- 20:18Speaker 7: fill them.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Quick question, do you think that the Red Sox had
- 20:24Speaker 1: real interest in Pete but they had to wait.
- 20:27Speaker 7: For I know miners saying is that the Red Sox
- 20:30Speaker 7: preferred Regman but liked both. They were engaged with Pete
- 20:35Speaker 7: playing to meet with Pete last night. I didn't confirm
- 20:37Speaker 7: that that actually happened, but it was on the agenda.
- 20:41Speaker 2: A gold crowd on the street.
- 20:42Speaker 6: There you go, you're on top of it.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Just yesterday was yesterday.
- 20:49Speaker 7: Yeah, So they were in on Pete and I thought
- 20:52Speaker 7: it was going to happen, to be honest, you know,
- 20:53Speaker 7: people talk about his wife being from Quincy in a
- 20:55Speaker 7: match there, Fenway Park, perfect fit, all that stuff. If
- 20:58Speaker 7: you're right handed, Hitory'd rather be at Fenway the Camden Yards,
- 21:01Speaker 7: all things considered. But five years, one hundred and fifty
- 21:05Speaker 7: five million dollars is gonna do a lot of convincing.
- 21:07Speaker 7: So the Oils got it done. Took it away from
- 21:10Speaker 7: the Red Sox.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Kratz's favorite two words and sports in on Red Sox.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Were in.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Or.
- 21:18Speaker 3: We tried to try nd up with Pete. Okay, we
- 21:20Speaker 3: tried one more on Pete.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Tell me what the Orioles are getting and you cover
- 21:25Speaker 1: the Ale East?
- 21:26Speaker 3: Now, yeah, how.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Does this change the Ale East? Like, give me your
- 21:30Speaker 1: peat impact slash Orioles take.
- 21:33Speaker 7: So he's exactly what the Ools needed, right. They have
- 21:37Speaker 7: all those young guys and it didn't go great in
- 21:39Speaker 7: twenty twenty five. Now they have a veteran who's gonna
- 21:42Speaker 7: be good for thirty five to forty home runs one
- 21:45Speaker 7: hundred plus RBIs and you put him in the middle
- 21:48Speaker 7: of the lineup, take a pressure off Gunner, Henderson, Jackson,
- 21:51Speaker 7: Holiday Westburg, et cetera. And maybe the Oils start to
- 21:55Speaker 7: cook with gas next year. Uh, they still need to
- 21:58Speaker 7: figure out the pitching thing, but I'm sure they're on
- 22:00Speaker 7: top of it.
- 22:01Speaker 6: As the Ale East.
- 22:02Speaker 3: I don't want to go right past that.
- 22:04Speaker 7: Wells the Oils are not a perpanct sea. Yes, it's
- 22:09Speaker 7: that they have play more work to do, absolutely, because
- 22:13Speaker 7: the Ale East is so good. The Blue Jays almost
- 22:17Speaker 7: won the World Series. The Yankees won as many games
- 22:20Speaker 7: as the Blue Jays in the regular season, and you
- 22:22Speaker 7: gotta figure they're going to be there every year. The
- 22:26Speaker 7: Red Sox, we'll see how the off season goes, but
- 22:30Speaker 7: they made the playoffs. They should be building on that
- 22:33Speaker 7: crochet fully of Roman Anthony, all that good stuff. They
- 22:35Speaker 7: have a good foundation. They need their other pieces. We'll
- 22:38Speaker 7: see how that goes for them. And then the Rays
- 22:40Speaker 7: are always a little bit of a wild card. So
- 22:43Speaker 7: it's the Ale East is loaded and Alonso helps the Oriols.
- 22:47Speaker 7: But I don't know that the Orioles are better than
- 22:49Speaker 7: the third or fourth best team right now in the division.
- 22:52Speaker 2: For sure.
- 22:54Speaker 5: Let's go to the Red Sox. Then are they making
- 22:56Speaker 5: sure they're not bidding against themselves with Alex Bregman because
- 23:00Speaker 5: of the impact we've talked about it, like the impact
- 23:03Speaker 5: he made on the team last year. Did they have
- 23:05Speaker 5: to be leary of that because of who else really
- 23:08Speaker 5: is in on him?
- 23:11Speaker 6: That's a great question.
- 23:12Speaker 7: And there hasn't been a lot of buzz right that
- 23:14Speaker 7: sounds like the Tigers aren't super keen on it. There
- 23:18Speaker 7: was a report about the Cubs last week, and you
- 23:20Speaker 7: know they you know, they're just posturing probably, but they
- 23:23Speaker 7: do have Matt Shaw like they're not desperate for Alex
- 23:26Speaker 7: Bregman even if they like him. Who else is in
- 23:29Speaker 7: on Alex Bregman? I don't really know. So the Red
- 23:32Speaker 7: Sox do have to be careful of that. They're a
- 23:35Speaker 7: very under Craig Bresla, a very patient, deliberate, intentional operation.
- 23:41Speaker 7: So there, I don't think they're gonna bit against themselves.
- 23:44Speaker 7: But guys are coming off the board. Schwarber's gone, they
- 23:47Speaker 7: never made an offer, Pete's gone. The pressure is on
- 23:51Speaker 7: the Red Sox now, I think to do what it
- 23:53Speaker 7: takes to keep Alex Bregman.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Okay, so the Red Sox, you know, need Bregmant. They
- 23:58Speaker 2: love Bragman.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Obviously, this causes the answer first base, because that's like
- 24:04Speaker 4: the one question that nobody can answer. Right. They had
- 24:06Speaker 4: to go get into Thaniel Litt last ye because Cossus
- 24:08Speaker 4: can't stay healthy. They had Toro and Romey Gonzalz thero
- 24:11Speaker 4: the one year Bragman. If they get Bregman, he solidifies third. Right,
- 24:15Speaker 4: we know that story. Whoever's at tewod Meyer or Campbell,
- 24:19Speaker 4: whoever that person is, the outfield's really was set catching set.
- 24:23Speaker 2: First base is.
- 24:23Speaker 4: The one place that you're still like, Yeah, where the
- 24:26Speaker 4: Red Sox at?
- 24:26Speaker 2: Is that Tristan Cassus.
- 24:29Speaker 7: I don't think that's that's I don't think it is
- 24:31Speaker 7: because he's been injured most of the past two years,
- 24:34Speaker 7: So how can you possibly count on that, never mind
- 24:36Speaker 7: the fact that it was a major, major knee injury,
- 24:38Speaker 7: and I'm not totally sure he'll be fully healthy and
- 24:41Speaker 7: ready to go on opening day.
- 24:42Speaker 2: He has to.
- 24:43Speaker 7: He's at a point in his career when he where
- 24:44Speaker 7: he needs to re establish himself, and I don't think
- 24:47Speaker 7: that is going to come at the beginning of twenty
- 24:50Speaker 7: twenty six. As the everyday first baseman for the Red Sox.
- 24:53Speaker 7: They still like him. There's still plenty of talent and
- 24:56Speaker 7: strength and power there and all of that stuff. He's
- 24:58Speaker 7: not old by means. He's twenty four, I believe. And yeah,
- 25:04Speaker 7: I don't think it's castles. I think there's going to
- 25:06Speaker 7: need to be another answer, whether that's maybe you Hennio Suarez,
- 25:10Speaker 7: who they've red Sox have been in touch with and
- 25:12Speaker 7: interested in. I think there's mutual interest there. So first
- 25:17Speaker 7: bases very much open the air, and so yeah, good.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Things to talk about for bad.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I mean, he's like, just does the crazy stuff. He
- 25:26Speaker 2: gives you something to talk about.
- 25:27Speaker 6: Yeah, everybody loves stuff to talk about, especially especially.
- 25:31Speaker 5: What about the catching position, because I had I think
- 25:35Speaker 5: it was your article that said there's a possibility with
- 25:37Speaker 5: real Muto and not saying it would be real Muto
- 25:40Speaker 5: just because of how it works. But like the the
- 25:44Speaker 5: the decline from the start of the year for Carlos Nervaiaz,
- 25:48Speaker 5: some concerns about different things. Is this is this a
- 25:52Speaker 5: position where they're looking for kind of like a not
- 25:55Speaker 5: a platoon but like a half and half situation, or
- 25:58Speaker 5: would they go to the top of the trade market
- 26:01Speaker 5: with like an Adlie well Adeley wouldn't go there for Baltimore,
- 26:03Speaker 5: But like, would they make a big splash at the
- 26:06Speaker 5: catching position or do they feel fine with Carlos Nervians?
- 26:11Speaker 7: I think, and the change at catcher is a really
- 26:13Speaker 7: down ballot off season potential plan.
- 26:18Speaker 6: Credit where it's due.
- 26:18Speaker 7: That was the athletic that rink that linked initially the
- 26:21Speaker 7: Red Sox to JT.
- 26:22Speaker 6: Real Muto.
- 26:23Speaker 7: I have confirmed that they've sniffed around on him, but
- 26:26Speaker 7: it doesn't make a ton of sense off the bat
- 26:29Speaker 7: this offseason. Right they have Carlos Narvaiaz and he was
- 26:33Speaker 7: way more than they thought he was going to be
- 26:36Speaker 7: coming into twenty twenty five and took that starting job
- 26:39Speaker 7: and tired at the end, and you know, didn't have
- 26:41Speaker 7: as good as second half as he had a first half.
- 26:42Speaker 7: He was, in my opinion, a borderline All Star in
- 26:44Speaker 7: the first half. But he's a great defensive catcher, a
- 26:48Speaker 7: great framer. The pitchers love him, so a change there,
- 26:51Speaker 7: I don't think is at the top of the agenda
- 26:53Speaker 7: right now. If a bunch more bats come off the
- 26:56Speaker 7: board and they believe JT. Real Muto is gonna bounce back,
- 27:00Speaker 7: then yeah, I could see them going that route. But
- 27:03Speaker 7: I just don't think it's a primary consideration right now,
- 27:07Speaker 7: as much as I do like JT. Real Muttos as
- 27:10Speaker 7: a player, one of my favorite players to watch for
- 27:12Speaker 7: the past, you know, seven six, seven, eight years.
- 27:16Speaker 3: What do you think of.
- 27:16Speaker 1: The moves the Red Sox have made thus far with
- 27:19Speaker 1: Sonny Gray and Johann Oviedo acquisitions and compared to what
- 27:23Speaker 1: you've seen the rest of the division.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Do I know we're early in the aufice.
- 27:26Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it's fine. The Red Sox have a
- 27:29Speaker 7: ton of starting depth right now. They have probably you
- 27:33Speaker 7: could probably build two rotations comfortably with what they've got.
- 27:40Speaker 7: Johann Oviedo's a little bit of a not quite a
- 27:42Speaker 7: lottery ticket because he's pitched in the Major's plenty, but
- 27:45Speaker 7: the Red Sox think there's upside there and they liked
- 27:47Speaker 7: what he saw what they saw in his nine starts
- 27:50Speaker 7: back from Tommy John surgery. Before that, hadn't pitched since
- 27:53Speaker 7: twenty twenty three. So with Sonny Gray, he's a good pitcher.
- 27:58Speaker 7: You know, he's going to be healthy, or at least has
- 27:59Speaker 7: been historically and two hundred strikeouts front of the rotation,
- 28:05Speaker 7: been an All Star in the past, like he's He's
- 28:07Speaker 7: been there, done that veteran presence, and that's good. I'm
- 28:11Speaker 7: not I'm staying open minded to the Red Sox potentially
- 28:16Speaker 7: adding another starting pitcher by opening day. I think it's
- 28:21Speaker 7: going to be you know, they can go with Sonny
- 28:24Speaker 7: Gray as their number two, but he's not that true
- 28:27Speaker 7: number two or better yet, that one bee to Garrett Crochet.
- 28:31Speaker 6: So let's see what happens the next three months.
- 28:34Speaker 5: This is I guess why gms don't talk very much.
- 28:37Speaker 5: But Craig reslo, Or, President of Baseball Operations, said they
- 28:41Speaker 5: wanted to get They're not looking for threes and fours.
- 28:44Speaker 5: They're looking for fours and fives. They're looking for that
- 28:47Speaker 5: one bee. Like you just said, did they accomplish this
- 28:51Speaker 5: or did they accomplish it by saying, well, we'll get
- 28:53Speaker 5: two threes.
- 28:57Speaker 7: I don't think they quite accomplish it. And I do
- 28:59Speaker 7: like Sunny Gray. He's a very useful pitcher. Would pitch
- 29:02Speaker 7: in a playoff rotation for anybody. Absolutely, But I think
- 29:06Speaker 7: if you're talking about competing with the Blue Jays who
- 29:08Speaker 7: just added Dylan Cease, or the Yankees, who in theory
- 29:12Speaker 7: will have Garrett Cole coming back, or you know, midway
- 29:15Speaker 7: through the season and have Max Freed as their one
- 29:18Speaker 7: two punch. The Red Sox don't quite have that true
- 29:23Speaker 7: one bee as you said, but like I said, I'm
- 29:27Speaker 7: staying open minded to that changing between now an opening day,
- 29:32Speaker 7: never mind the trade deadline, by the time the playoffs
- 29:35Speaker 7: roll around.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Okay, So you have to understand Krats.
- 29:37Speaker 4: His favorite picture in the planet is ovi Aedo, So okay,
- 29:40Speaker 4: it broke his heart when he got traded because he
- 29:42Speaker 4: was just such a such a fan for the last.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Couple of years.
- 29:46Speaker 4: He always talked, I mean, the guy's gigantic, he's got
- 29:48Speaker 4: great stuff, but I did not really stand out. You
- 29:52Speaker 4: don't understand the big disc guy. But my question about
- 29:55Speaker 4: the pitching is, yes, you have Crostchet, Yes, Sonny Gray's
- 29:59Speaker 4: a nice pickup Oviate.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Can he stay healthy? How do they get more?
- 30:05Speaker 4: You say they have depth, right, and they have some
- 30:08Speaker 4: young kids who came up in tonight show, But how
- 30:09Speaker 4: do they get more out of their pitching other than
- 30:11Speaker 4: Crochet Because the rest of those guys, Sony kraz A,
- 30:16Speaker 4: five inning guy Oviedo, it wasn't hurt.
- 30:19Speaker 2: So can the Red Sox and Craig Breslow figure out
- 30:21Speaker 2: how to get more out of the guys that they
- 30:23Speaker 2: have acquired.
- 30:25Speaker 7: So you're starting Craig Breslo, the pitching infrastructure whiz with
- 30:29Speaker 7: the Cubs, came to the Red Sox two years ago
- 30:31Speaker 7: and that was a big part of his whole deal.
- 30:34Speaker 7: And you're starting to see that trickle up to the
- 30:37Speaker 7: major leagues in the form of Peyton Toley made it
- 30:41Speaker 7: to big leagues in his first professional season, Connelly early
- 30:45Speaker 7: got to the big leagues faster. He drafted in twenty
- 30:48Speaker 7: twenty three, got to the big leagues faster, throwing harder
- 30:51Speaker 7: than really anybody reasonably expected, in a very short amount
- 30:55Speaker 7: of time, eighteen months after we got drafted. So it's
- 31:01Speaker 7: part of that whole bottom up pitching approach, and you're
- 31:06Speaker 7: so you're starting to see it, Uh, you know, it's
- 31:08Speaker 7: it's Crochet Gray, bo O, Vi Eedo, Santoval's coming back
- 31:13Speaker 7: from injury, Crawford's coming back from injury. Those are like
- 31:15Speaker 7: the top six, and then after that you got Hunter Dobbins,
- 31:19Speaker 7: Peyton Totley, Connolly Early, Luis Paralys is a super interesting prospect,
- 31:24Speaker 7: and then behind them, further away, Kyson Witherspoon, first round
- 31:28Speaker 7: draft pick in June might open the season in Double A,
- 31:31Speaker 7: which would be a heck of a feet that would
- 31:33Speaker 7: put him with success, not a guarantee on the major
- 31:36Speaker 7: league radar for by the end of the season. So
- 31:39Speaker 7: the Red Sox like their pitching pipeline. The proof is
- 31:43Speaker 7: starting to be in the pudding. But you know, whether
- 31:47Speaker 7: they groom, whether they have a homegrown number two in
- 31:49Speaker 7: their time will tell.
- 31:51Speaker 4: Okay, Sonny Gray, Yeah, took shots at the Red Sox
- 31:55Speaker 4: or the Yankees.
- 31:56Speaker 6: Yeah, that's fun.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Hunter Dobbins shots at the Yankees. Schlitler, Yeah, took his
- 32:03Speaker 4: shots at the Red Sox fans. Do we have Yankee
- 32:06Speaker 4: Red Sox back now? Is it back to what it was.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Ten to fifteen, twenty years ago? Back? It's the three?
- 32:11Speaker 6: Oh, it would be so hard to be that hot. True,
- 32:15Speaker 6: but I would have.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Got actual players now taking shots, yes, at organizations and fans.
- 32:20Speaker 6: Yeah, it's good stuff, right.
- 32:22Speaker 7: I fully support all of those players in those endeavors.
- 32:26Speaker 6: I think it's a lot of fun. Baseball's better when
- 32:28Speaker 6: Red Sox.
- 32:29Speaker 4: As much as all the fans hate it, they're like,
- 32:31Speaker 4: it's Red Sox Yankees again. When those two are going good,
- 32:34Speaker 4: nothing's better, especially when they're both really trying, like it
- 32:37Speaker 4: seems like they are now and they're spending the money
- 32:39Speaker 4: because if you remember like three to zero four, before
- 32:42Speaker 4: the Red Sox won, they're like, oh, the Yankees got
- 32:43Speaker 4: this guy. We got to go get this guy, and
- 32:45Speaker 4: then or the Red Sox got him with the Yankees
- 32:47Speaker 4: were like, we got to go get him.
- 32:48Speaker 2: So I think it's great.
- 32:49Speaker 6: Yeah, I I am.
- 32:50Speaker 2: And it's always better when the players are talking trash.
- 32:53Speaker 6: That's absolutely true and better.
- 32:54Speaker 7: Yet when they have like bona fide animosity toward the
- 32:58Speaker 7: organization is one thing, but sometimes he cho that's the
- 33:00Speaker 7: next level right with an the benches start clear and
- 33:02Speaker 7: stuff like that. So it's not to that level of
- 33:05Speaker 7: rivalry heat right now, but we can hope.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Right let's charge munt. Let's get to some other signings.
- 33:13Speaker 1: If you're just joining us now. We spent a lot
- 33:15Speaker 1: of time talking about the Pee Alonzo signing and the aftermath,
- 33:20Speaker 1: but there have been a few other little moves. Gregory
- 33:23Speaker 1: Soto signs with the Pirates. That was late last night.
- 33:26Speaker 1: One year, seven point seventy five million dollars. You can't
- 33:30Speaker 1: just look at Era. We get told that over and
- 33:33Speaker 1: over again, especially with a reliever you know, it's a
- 33:36Speaker 1: low fours Thera pitching for Baltimore and the Mets.
- 33:40Speaker 2: He's a guy though.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Remember when he was with the Tigers, he was an
- 33:43Speaker 4: All Star and people are like, this is the next
- 33:45Speaker 4: great pitcher, and he was, and then he got traded
- 33:48Speaker 4: in then he had the thing where he couldn't you know,
- 33:50Speaker 4: he wanted to be the closer and they're like, you
- 33:52Speaker 4: don't throw enough strikes, and it's.
- 33:56Speaker 2: He's one of those guys.
- 33:58Speaker 4: It's like he's got all the stuff in the world,
- 34:00Speaker 4: but Candy harness it and maybe the Pirates can figure
- 34:02Speaker 4: it out.
- 34:06Speaker 5: Okay, sure, but hey, you know what they moved. They moved.
- 34:11Speaker 5: They moved. They moved in the direction of what do
- 34:15Speaker 5: you need. You need a solid seventh eight inning guy,
- 34:19Speaker 5: You need to have a closer in the bullpen. I
- 34:21Speaker 5: think they already have those pieces set, so I think
- 34:24Speaker 5: adding a guy like this Gregorysoto just a one year deal.
- 34:28Speaker 5: I love that they went and went into the pocket.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Did the job. Now, like we talk about the Orioles,
- 34:35Speaker 5: what's the next thing some offense the Orioles that was
- 34:39Speaker 5: starting pitching. We'll see if they do something the Pirates.
- 34:43Speaker 5: Awesome job, great job, Pirates, Pirates, great job. Make sure
- 34:49Speaker 5: you guys clip that.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I don't even I've been so busy, I don't even
- 34:57Speaker 1: know what you're referring to in terms of the bit
- 35:00Speaker 1: roll that you're dealing with, but I guess I'll check
- 35:02Speaker 1: it out. On socials, we also have a show called
- 35:05Speaker 1: Bucko Territory. I encourage you to check that out for
- 35:08Speaker 1: more on this signing and what the Tigers or excuse me,
- 35:10Speaker 1: the Pirates are up to. But speaking of the Tigers,
- 35:13Speaker 1: Kyle Finnigan two years, nineteen million bucks, so he was
- 35:16Speaker 1: more coveted this offseason and he moved over to the
- 35:19Speaker 1: team that ends up signing him back.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Remember he had a hard time.
- 35:21Speaker 2: He did really well for the Tigers too.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Yeah, they had the splitter usage skyrocket.
- 35:27Speaker 4: And he was really good for him. So he did
- 35:29Speaker 4: really well this offseason. Great guy, good guess when we've
- 35:31Speaker 4: had him on. So I'm happy for him. And listen,
- 35:34Speaker 4: that's a nice piece will Vest and some of the
- 35:37Speaker 4: other guys that they have, some of the younger guys
- 35:39Speaker 4: that they have, and you throw Finnigan into the back
- 35:40Speaker 4: end of this bullpen. Now they still need a starter
- 35:43Speaker 4: for me, and they still need another bullpen piece and
- 35:45Speaker 4: they still need a bat and.
- 35:46Speaker 2: They got to figure out.
- 35:48Speaker 4: We didn't have time with hint yesterday, but I just
- 35:50Speaker 4: wanted to know how they figure out how to cut
- 35:52Speaker 4: down the strikeouts they have, because if you watched their
- 35:55Speaker 4: and I will obviously watch their playoff series, their playoff
- 35:59Speaker 4: series was all strikeouts like this, struck out. I was
- 36:05Speaker 4: fifteen times a game. It was everybody, strikeout, striker, strike out.
- 36:08Speaker 4: I Thinkerry Carboner would come up and hit a home run.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Other than that, it was like strikeout, strikeout, strikeout, strikeout, strikeout,
- 36:13Speaker 4: And it's a hard way to live.
- 36:17Speaker 5: I think.
- 36:18Speaker 3: The answer, by the way, Kratz, I'll say, after you.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Say, what's that, I didn't hear what you said.
- 36:24Speaker 1: The answer, well, I mean, do you remember Aj Perzinski
- 36:29Speaker 1: said to Aj Hinch, I wish we had more time.
- 36:31Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you about the swing and miss
- 36:34Speaker 1: in the playoffs. I don't know, you might have gotten lost.
- 36:36Speaker 1: And then another conversation with someone, but he was like,
- 36:40Speaker 1: when our guys go up to the dish, they are
- 36:42Speaker 1: trying to make contact.
- 36:44Speaker 4: Well, I understand I know this, Listen, I trust I
- 36:47Speaker 4: know they are trying to make contact. There's an old
- 36:50Speaker 4: saying I can get anybody to try right, like I
- 36:53Speaker 4: can get any something to try right. But you can
- 36:58Speaker 4: listen as a guy that made a lot of contact,
- 37:00Speaker 4: and I was, there was a couple I went to
- 37:02Speaker 4: some teams and like, hey, we want you to take more. Well,
- 37:05Speaker 4: then it took away what I was good at, which
- 37:07Speaker 4: was making contact.
- 37:08Speaker 2: So there is a fine line of but I think
- 37:11Speaker 2: there are ways to make more contact.
- 37:15Speaker 4: But he also said if you remember what he also
- 37:16Speaker 4: said though, he goes, sometimes guys take too many and
- 37:21Speaker 4: then they fall behind instead of being aggressive and getting
- 37:23Speaker 4: three swings instead of two swings or one swing. He's like,
- 37:26Speaker 4: so there's a there's a way to do it. That's
- 37:28Speaker 4: I just wish, you know. That's why Bragmant I feel
- 37:30Speaker 4: like fits so well for them. But the high content
- 37:34Speaker 4: and then he can teach some of these other guys,
- 37:36Speaker 4: hey you're looking for this pitch, don't miss it again.
- 37:39Speaker 2: They're not trying to miss it. I mean, no one
- 37:41Speaker 2: ever wanted to strike out well, Adam done it a
- 37:44Speaker 2: couple of times. Best line ever, I'd just strike out
- 37:47Speaker 2: Donner because I thought I was going to hit into
- 37:48Speaker 2: a double play, so I figured only make one out
- 37:50Speaker 2: instead of two. So are those.
- 37:54Speaker 5: Guys I think. I think the Tiger's going in on
- 37:58Speaker 5: Finnegan here show that the eighteen innings that he threw
- 38:02Speaker 5: for them and then subsequently into the playoffs, the bump
- 38:06Speaker 5: in the strikeout rate is what the issue was with
- 38:11Speaker 5: his value, his value on the trade market two years ago.
- 38:14Speaker 5: Finally the Tigers went and got him, and we looked
- 38:16Speaker 5: at him and we go Tigers needed to pick up
- 38:20Speaker 5: strikeout guys, and they didn't get one in Finegan, who
- 38:23Speaker 5: was averaging less than one per inning. And when he
- 38:27Speaker 5: went there, I think it was like twenty three or
- 38:29Speaker 5: twenty five strikeouts and eighteen innings. Like they used that
- 38:32Speaker 5: splitter a little bit differently than it was being used
- 38:36Speaker 5: in Washington, and so I think that's awesome. That's that's
- 38:39Speaker 5: huge value there. I think it shows that eighteen million
- 38:43Speaker 5: two years for closer, eighth inning guy type is you
- 38:50Speaker 5: know what you're looking for and to add leverage to
- 38:53Speaker 5: your bullpen probably you know, maybe not the closer that
- 38:56Speaker 5: the Robert Suarez are, the Pete Fairbanks type, but I mean, good,
- 39:00Speaker 5: good for the Tigers. They still need more strikeouts. They
- 39:03Speaker 5: didn't take their strikeouts from their lineup and put them
- 39:05Speaker 5: in the bullpen, and the bullpen guys who don't strike
- 39:08Speaker 5: out much many many batters. The hitters need to take it,
- 39:12Speaker 5: take advantage of that.
- 39:15Speaker 1: And hey, I don't want to say we're being tough
- 39:17Speaker 1: on Detroit, but it's more of a motivational thing.
- 39:21Speaker 3: This team is close. They've got some pieces here that can.
- 39:26Speaker 4: More coming to the next level, some more coming. They've
- 39:28Speaker 4: gone to go there with sax Fark when joke comes back, Melton,
- 39:33Speaker 4: if he takes the next step as a starter and
- 39:35Speaker 4: I do it is legit.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and think about it.
- 39:37Speaker 1: They were that close to take them down, the Mariners,
- 39:40Speaker 1: who were that close to taking down the Blue Jays.
- 39:46Speaker 5: What a place it was this playoffs, it was this
- 39:49Speaker 5: is the year like this. If you don't trade Schoogle,
- 39:52Speaker 5: we talked about it yesterday, you gotta go all in.
- 39:55Speaker 5: What does that all in look like? Small pieces like
- 39:58Speaker 5: Kyle Finnegan,
