section that deepens the topics discussed on
• 1:14
the portal. I am with journalist Enzo Mauri,
• 1:17
who introduces the current topic. Good morning,
• 1:19
today I am talking to you about a particular
• 1:21
car. Imagine having such a small car that can
• 1:25
be moved manually like a suitcase when you need
• 1:28
to reverse. This car exists, the Peel P50, produced
• 1:32
in about 50 units on the island of Mann, by the
• 1:35
Peel Engineering Company since 1900. from 1963
• 1:38
to 1964 but according to other sources from 1962
• 1:42
to 1965. Built on the Isle of Man in the early
• 1:48
60s, the P50 was said to be almost cheaper than
• 1:51
walking, cost £198 and did 100 miles to the gallon.
• 1:57
The P50 has been included in the famous Guinness
• 2:00
World Record of 2010 as the smallest car ever
• 2:03
produced. Its dimensions are 1 .37m in length,
• 2:07
99cm in width, 1 .20m in height, while the total
• 2:12
weight is 59kg. Not when the knees are the crunches,
• 2:15
We'll be right back. And nor is it very fast.
• 3:05
is the 49cc engine from a moped. Top speed rather
• 3:12
depends on how big you are and... Homologated
• 3:16
in the three -wheel category with a manual gearbox
• 3:18
of three gears, it reached the maximum speed
• 3:21
of 60 km per hour. The reduced dimensions of
• 3:24
the Pilpi 50 allowed it to be introduced into
• 3:27
any environment. In 1963 it was even brought
• 3:31
in elevator on the top of the Black Bull Tower
• 3:34
in Lancashire, making it do laps along the observation
• 3:38
balcony. More up in an underground car park where
• 3:44
the bays are only big enough for ethnic peace
• 3:47
bicycles and fair -trade gee wizards. Thanks
• 4:15
to Denzo Mauri for the modern theme. See you
• 4:29
in the next episode of 70 per 80. Have you listened
• 4:33
to 70 per 80? Do you remember? A KVOX production.
