- 2:14So what am I or what is on my mind For this week.
- 2:23Well, I'll tell you, it is all about our Canadian banks listening.
- 2:30Are they listening to the fact that there are certain groups of Canadians that are being
- 2:36left out of the digital world?
- 2:39And why is this? Because we are struggling to ensure that online systems and online
- 2:49facilities are being made accessible and usable to groups such as seniors,
- 2:56those who I call the technically shy, and persons with disabilities.
- 3:03It is true that spaces at branches have been greatly improved,
- 3:10but websites need or still need to be made more accessible and usable.
- 3:18And when you have online personal banking pages that are still not usable to persons
- 3:25like me with a vision impairment I cannot Independently carry out my e-transfers.
- 3:33I have to depend on lovely staff members at my bank branch and on my friend to help me
- 3:42out. This is not acceptable and mobile apps are still not accessible and usable to
- 3:51persons with disabilities, to seniors, to the technically shy,
- 3:56to those who are really, really struggling to keep up.
- 4:01I know they keep saying that online banking is the way of the world and will be for the
- 4:08rest of the time. I agree.
- 4:11But we got to ensure that seniors, persons with disabilities,
- 4:17the technically shy and those who struggle are not left out are not
- 4:27forgotten. Okay. Can more be done?
- 4:33Definitely. So we can set up support systems to help people deal with online challenges.
- 4:43We we need to do it. We need to provide more online,
- 4:47not online, but in-house help for those of us who struggle to do our online banking.
- 4:56I want to thank my bank branch at Warden and Finch,
- 5:02Angela, Kathy, Nadia and Mona and the late Cora for helping to make my day a
- 5:12better day. Whenever I step into that branch,
- 5:15they're always there to help me.
- 5:18Thanks, ladies. Have a nice day.
