- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to Slander and Slay um Buzzer.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: That was the fabulous Nikki K from Slay, and I am Tracy Sandler from Slander.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: And Nikki, there are so many places we can start today.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: There's so much to discuss, but I wanted to start with this.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Your UCLA ruins are ranked number 24 in the country under first year head coach Bob Chesney.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Did I say his name correctly?
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Did you say ninth?
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Did you say ninth in the country?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Wait, did you say are you ninth in the country?
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: I said 24th.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: That's a good thing we're having this book.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Oh mama.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Oh mama.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Ted football team.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Nikki, how excited are you?
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: You know what, Trace?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It's been a hell of a week.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna say hell because it's been it's been a long four days.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, but that my Bruins have been the one thing carrying me through.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: And like, you know what?
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I think them I was talking to someone about this uh last night.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: It's like in times past where maybe UCLA gets off to a good record-wise start, but it's like still shaky.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: You know, this is a team that bends but does not break, and they come back and they are resilient and they are gritty, and you can tell they're playing for something greater than themselves, right?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: It truly is the the sum is greater than the whole, or the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I know what you're saying.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, and Bob the hole is greater than the sum of its parts, right?
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Is that what it is I was saying?
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: The sum is greater than the parts of the whole.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know it was a big we got it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: I understood where you were going.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, and Bob Chesney is just like I think he's literally the dream college football coach.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: It's just it and it's about damn time, you know, it's about time.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: It's been a very rough go for the UCLA Bruins football team.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: It has not the Rose Bowl has not been rosy.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: It has been very rough, and so it is very exciting.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: It's exciting for the Big Ten.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, everything about it, but I'm I'm excited for you.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: And every time I see the Bruins win, I'm like, oh Nikki, now in a couple of weeks, few weeks, you and I will be rivals.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Is this any is this gonna be in LA?
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: No, it's in Ann Arbor.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, I was gonna say we should go.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking about maybe going to that game.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it's gonna work schedule-wise.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: It's I I have to figure out like a few scheduling things, but I am considering it for sure.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: But I know if it was in LA, we should definitely have gone together.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: But um, it should be very fun.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: But I'm excited for you.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: That was like the number one thing I wanted to start with today.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, that was so thoughtful.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I was gonna ask you how you've been doing since the Dodgers have been.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, last time we talked, we were fighting for our lives.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: I actually am fine.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, I ended up doing a little thing on social media.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: I think after we had, maybe it was after, I think it was after we did the podcast, and that kind of talking about what we talked about, and that like it's nobody's fault.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Like everybody wants it to be someone's fault.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: It's nobody's fault.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you have to get beat, the other team is better.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Sports, the other team was better.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: And I had, I also said, like, I have a hard time and had a hard time being really upset coming off back-to-back Super Bowl championships.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Like, I think it's like so.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: I actually was fine.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: I think I thought a lot about like this day and age too, not just with them.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: It may be impossible to win three in a row in this day and age.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: First of all, there's more, there are more playoff games.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: I think it should be.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: I think it should be, you know, I think the winning two in a row is incredible.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Um so I think that's kind of my feeling.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Like it was it's hard to be like upset.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: And they're coming up back-to-back World Series champs championships, and they made it to the NLCS.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: It's not even like, oh, they didn't make the playoffs, they got knocked out in the wild card.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Like they made it to the NLCS.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, I felt it actually kind of reminded, I mean, there were different seasons that this reminded me of, and obviously we talked about different teams, but it reminded me a little bit in 2021 when they were fighting with the Giants for the NLS and they lost by one game.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And they had to play the one and done game against the Cardinals with the Chris Taylor.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: I was there, it was unbelievable, heroic, walk-off home run.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: It was so incredible.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Then they played the Giants in a five-game division series, which was so tough and emotional because of the rivalry.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: There was so much going on, and they ended up winning in five.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: And like by the NLCS, they were exhausted.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: And I think for different reasons, this team coming off back-to-back World Series championships, having played more baseball than anybody else, dealing with all the injuries, and then that Brave series was tough.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: It was a tough series, but they got through it, and then I think they were just right, right, right, right.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, I didn't accept that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So I feel okay about it.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and we should okay.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: So when you look at the World Series matchup, and it's like two small ball clubs.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Um I just use for the lockout now owners.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: What's the yeah?
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I know, right?
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Like what okay, okay.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: It's it's just so ironic that this is the year we get raised Brewers.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Um, what do you think about this series?
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: So I'm rooting for the Brewers because I would rather root for I would rather lose to the team that won than the team that lost.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think it would be really fun.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: And this is this is a tough one.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: There is something about the Brewers, though, that if you're a person, you know, you talked last week, and I've been quoting you actually all week long about magic and magic in baseball.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: And I've been quoting you about how like the Doggers may use up all their magic for a while in game seven of last year's World Series, which is fair.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: There's something magical about the Brewers, right?
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: There just is.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: There's something a little bit magical about them.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: Um and I I think it's gonna be the Brewers.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: I I think this one is gonna go six, and I think the Brewers are gonna win the first one.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: And the brew, yeah, yeah, because they they were in it in 1982, right?
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: And then they didn't win it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: It's it's and yeah, this is a franchise and a fan base and a state that really has not had a lot of recent championship success.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Yes, I'm correct.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: If you know, um and so I I completely agree with you.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: I think like the story of Bowers is like emblematic, right?
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: He almost retired two years ago and now he he was the NLCS MVP and that just the the way they play is uh as someone who didn't grow up loving baseball and now understands the sport on another level.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I love the way the Brewers play baseball.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, they play it's it's amazing how they play baseball.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: And Jack Bars, I was he endeared me to him also because I love what he said in his post-game press conference after they won, where he said that he learned a lot the year before from the Dodgers.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: He's like, they swept us, they're going to another World Series, and they do their normal handshake line.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: It wasn't over the top.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: And he's like, We had just beaten the Cubs and NLDS and we celebrated like we did something.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: And I watched the Dodgers and I was like, we haven't done anything.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: And they know they have another step.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: And I learned from that.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: And I really liked that because I feel like that's also like that's also like not bitter.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: That's like, what can I learn from the guys that just beat us?
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: And I love it.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I I'm all in on that.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: I'm all in on the brewers.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Um, no, that is completely wait, and can I like this is more funny with me backtracking?
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: You can do whatever you want.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Is it it's Jake Bowers, right?
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: You said Jack Bauer because of the show 24.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Did I say I was like, sound right?
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: And I was like, it's and it's amazing because it's Jake me wants Bowers and not Jack Bauer.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: But in my head, if you're a Bauer anywhere in your name, you are Jack Bower.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: We've got 24 hours to save the world, Tracy.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: No, my parents like were huge fans of that show, and then I remember like the cool guys in high school would be like, Oh, Jack Bauer, Jack Bower.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: So that's where it's like that name sounds right.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: That is, and honestly, for Jake Bowers, there's no greater compliment than me complimenting Jack Bower.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: That man, we we need a Jake so many times.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: We need a Jack Bower.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: There was an episode at the Coliseum, actually.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: He's at the Coliseum, and he before the commercial break, I kid you not, he died.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: And by the time they came back from the commercial, he'd been brought back to life.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: So of course that man, we have been saved so many times because of Jack Bauer and Jake Bowers.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: I apologize, but actually, you're welcome.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because in my mind, there is no bigger compliment.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Lucky, lucky, lucky, you're lucky.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, we have there's so much.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: There's so much so I don't know.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: So, okay, last night was well, two nights ago, NBA's back.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Last night was Warriors Lakers, which yeah, we have to talk about because of yaks.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: But before we get into that Michigan man, can we please get into my other Michigan man?
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: My number one, JJ McCarthy, who is now the starting quarterback of the new York football giants.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: I'm like so happy for you.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: I saw I like you did you did your cute little post being like the mood knowing JJ had a great fourth quarter, like you know.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: That's I do that love.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: I I you you're not alone.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: The brand is strong.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: The amount of texts and DMs and messages I got, the brand is strong.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: No, I think I think like the reclamation quarterback is always a beautiful story.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: And I really hope, you know, I'm obviously I'm very big on Jackson Dart, but I think if this can be an opportunity for JJ to meet the moment and to like get some love from Jameis Winston along the way, like what a great spot for him to be in.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: It's a great spot.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: And the the reality is, I think, assuming unless he takes him to a Super Bowl, but assuming he does really well this season, he's probably going to be somewhere else next season.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just because they are committed to Jackson Dart, and there's no reason not to be committed to Jackson Dart.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: So I don't I don't know that he would be there long term, but when he came in that fourth quarter, he was tremendous.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Um, they are throwing him to a Texans defense that is gonna be very, very tough, and then they go on a bye week.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: But I was so excited.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: In fact, my aura ring said for my activity for the lap for the fourth quarter, it said, We've detected you were dancing for 33 minutes.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: That is how much I was jumping up and down and flopping around every day.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Crazy, that's iconic.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, we need to clip this, and I definitely need to post that.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my error ring was like, Were you dancing?
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: And I put yes because yes, I was.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: I was dancing.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: So that was extremely exciting.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: And so then now he's been named the quarterback, the starting quarterback of the Giants.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I think it's a very exciting opportunity for him.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I hope that he does fantastic.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: I will obviously be watching very closely.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Probably my aura ring will think again that I have been dancing uh for probably a three-hour game now, since he's not just playing in the fourth quarter.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: So I am very, very excited about JJ.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: So that I have I was gonna say another Michigan man doing great.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: A day, Mara going toe-to-toe with Wendy in the Spurs Thunder.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, of course the thunder would pick up a day.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Like, of course, of course.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: First, by the way, that's such a funny sentence out of context.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Of course, the thunder would pick up a day.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Like that's out of context.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: You sound like out of context.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: It's like a weather person.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: And that's when you're really in sports that you expect people to understand exactly what you're saying.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: But but yeah, he was fantastic.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: I have this is like this could be like pushing the boundary, but this is slander and say my mom just called my sister and goes, There's a Laker name with the last name Labia.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: And my sister calls me and she goes, Is that true?
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And I go, No, it's Jake Loravia.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Like I knew out of no context.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Well, and that's hilarious.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Well, let's be honest, there was only one person she could have been talking about.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: So that was why I said my we knew like you're you know I mean like you're like, no, it's Jake Loravia.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: I need to go now.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Goodbye.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: That's like literally that viral.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Gotta be honest, I've been expecting your call.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: So it's not a bad time at all.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: La rapia.
- 13:00unknown: Gotta go back.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: So that's hilarious.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm glad you brought up the Lakers because they played the Warriors on Wednesday night.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: They they stomped them.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: It was like not even they look like Lakers never went on opening night.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: It was crazy.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: It's a new Lakers world.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: First, I I do want to talk about Luca.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, I always want to talk about Luka.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, but I want to talk about Luca because for like I liked his letter to LA.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I like that the leadership, he free parking for everybody Wednesday night.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: That's amazing, like on Luca.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Um, so and Luca was tremendous and they look tremendous.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, listen, it's game one, so who knows?
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: But it does, there was something about them that just kind of felt a little bit different.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: But the story of the game ends up being Yaksal Lindeborg.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: For those of you that don't know, Yaksel Lindeborg is he's, I guess this, the I could say the closest thing I could say is he's my basketball JJ.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: No one is JJ, like it's not possible, except for like Shohei.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Those are like, you know, but but is in my Michigan basketball world, he's my basketball JJ.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: He's amazing, he's so special, he's a tremendous player.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: And as we saw last night, he is afraid of nothing and nobody.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: And the post-game comments are gold.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: And I love for Warriors fans this morning on social media, the Warriors lost by three points.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a long season for them.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: But what everybody's talking about is Yaksel Lindenborg's post-game comments, where he's like, I lost all respect for Luka Doncic.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, he's he whines, he complains.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: I used to love him, I lost all respect for him.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know if on night one of your career you need to proclaim that you've lost all respect for Luka Doncic.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: That being said, he is gold and he will be gold all season long.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: Well, and I think this lends itself to a bigger conversation, too.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: That like the lovey dubby era of the NBA is over.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: I think we're seeing like teams that don't like other teams for certain reasons.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, and it's like the I'm sure the Sixers are gonna be like uh a team of character and and you know, nobody wants nobody wants their smoke.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Then like you see the Timberwolves with Anthony Edwards and Lamello Ball, like two.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: I I uh I some some fan from Minnesota.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Oh no, this is a great story.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: I was on call with Delta, Delta, and you I always like chat with the customer service representatives.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: I get their life stories, blah blah blah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, where are you from?
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: And he's like, We're in, I'm in Minnesota.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: I go, Oh, how about the Timberwolves?
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: He goes, You mean that team with two man childs?
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: He's like, Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball are two man children.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: And I go, Oh, okay.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: And he ends ended up being a big Celtic fan.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: So, like, I that's amazing.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: I was dying that, but like the Celtics are another team that's just like the Knicks, like the Spurs, the Thunder, and I'm sure the Lakers are gonna now have that kind of little, you know, like all the white boys being violent.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: And they're not, and listen, Luca does complain all the time.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I said it's really aggravating.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Once I sat on the floor once for Laker Game, and and I say once because it literally is the only time I've ever sat on the floor for Laker Game.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Say it when you're just you very much.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: It was most and it was amazing.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: It was game one of the playoffs a couple years ago.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: I saw you, I saw you on the court, and it was very exciting.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, oh, that was so fun.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: It was it was such a fun.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: It was I mean, they lost, and that wasn't fun, but the whole experience was amazing.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: But something that is that you really notice when you're sitting there is how much they talk to the rest.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: They yap, how much they talked in between plays, during plays, at timeouts, and he is yapping.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I love Luca.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Luca is I loved him in Dallas, I love him on the Lakers, I love Luca.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, I was like literally last night on social.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: It was like, I can't, gentlemen, do not make me choose between Luca and Yaks.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: This is like choosing my favorite child.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: No, it's cinema.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: I have to I have to choose Yaks in those situations because he brought Michigan a national championship, but it was it was cinema.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: It was fun.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: I love the idea of this rivalry of Luka Doncic having this rivalry with this rookie for the Warriors, who are going gonna be going nowhere fastest he's the most likely.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Um, and it just was really it was fun to see.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: I think I also think for the Warriors that energy is gonna be so good for them.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, yeah, it's kind of technical.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: No, I think that's iconic.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Like first night in the NBA, like just so good.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: It's technical.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: He was it was amazing, but Yaks is so special as a human, as a player, as everything.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: He is gonna be so beloved in the bay.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be it's great.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that was it was really fun.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: And LeBron the other night with the guy that told me he was soft and he was like, I'm not from the West Coast, I'm from Ohio.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: F you F is you talking about.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Like that was so good.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: It's I mean, the NBA has been back for two days, and I feel like we already have so many great stories, right?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: And what I love too is like from the games on three games on opening night, and then like like they they felt meaningful and that they mattered and that they play the uh players really wanted to win, not so much performative or ceremonial, which the NBA has kind of lost a lot of its game by game um uh I guess gravity, if that makes sense.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that that was a great way to tip it off.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no pun intended, but pun intended, great way to tip it off.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: Pun intended.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: As long as we're talking about the NBA, I have to bring this up because the la during the finals, obviously, we talk so much about the Knicks and everything, but about our king and queen or my king and queen, Timmy and Kylie, and at Knicks games, and our queen Kylie walked the Victoria's Secret fashion show the other night in a$50 million bra, by the way, which no crush, no pressure.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: No pressure.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, I would be so scared, but the best part of it for me, well, there were a few of us, but first of all, her two kids watching her with like eyes wide, so cute, her mom with the camera phone, and then our king, Timmy, sunglasses, smiling, clapping.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: I loved it.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: And I was like, the NBA is coming back because Timmy and Kylie are on our screens.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: I like almost forgot about them for a moment.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: You know, well, the Victoria's Secret show wanted to remind you, as did I.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: I loved um the sweet life of sweet life of Zach and the twins.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Um the Sprouses.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Yes, I love Cole Sprouse.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love the Sprouse, uh Cole, Cole Sprouse.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Was it Cold Sprouse?
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: One of them, he was being like hype, hype woman number one for his woman.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Like he was front and center and just like filming her, you know.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: It was it was a bit iconic.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: That's what you get.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: I actually am not sure which sprouses.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: I saw on Instagram this morning that one of them said, Here's the season of me explaining to everybody that I'm not the one married to Barbara.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I don't remember which one it was.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Let's find out.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: I think it was Cole Sprouse Victor.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: I think it was Cole.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Of course, when the I need the names, it always evades me.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: But no, that was great seeing them back.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Um NFL.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: NFL.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: We got a pretty good Thursday night football game tonight.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: We've had now two in a row thirteen good Thursday night football matchups.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Last week's matchup ended up being great between the uh Seahawks and the Broncos.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Broncos pulling that out.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then tonight we have the Patriots and the Bears.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's gonna be so fun.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be so fun.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: There's like a part of me that thinks the Bears just I know that the Patriots have found something and Drake May has found something back, but I don't know, this Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams combination, I I I'd put give this one to the Bears.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: And I think I think it's gonna be close to a point, and then I think the Bears kind of pull away.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think so too.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: I think Caleb it, I think Caleb's been pissed off, right?
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Like um, so I think him coming back, they and I think they know this is an opportunity to make a statement.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: So, and when their offense is rolling, reminder, I gotta set my fantasy lineup.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: I've forgotten.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Dodgers completely made my brain mush about football, and I've yeah, that's fair the past two weeks.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: So yeah, um, but yeah, and Caleb's one of my quarterbacks, so but I oh yeah, yeah, get right on that.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: So I yeah, I I agree with you.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: I I know we've been agreeing a lot, but I I believe Bears are gonna pull this one out.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: We have not talked about perhaps the most important story in the NFL this week, the not in a positive way, but for anyone who have made it missed it, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will be out for the season with blood clots in his lungs.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: When he was in London a week and a half ago, he had a he was diagnosed with, I believe, a superficial blood clot in his calf, and he was in the hospital for 36 hours.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: There were differing reports on whether he was allowed to sleep or shouldn't all of that.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: But the point is he gets the city, he plays in a game and then flies home from London.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: And now he's out for the season.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: And And in my limited knowledge of the situation, I'm not a doctor.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: I have not studied all obviously not studied every protocol and all of that.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: On the outside, though, this is this looks terrible.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: This looked like total malpractice by the Eagles and the league.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: And I have a few issues that I would like to bring up.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Please, please do.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Please raise them.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Number one, Nick Siriani speaks the media Monday.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Now, that's his normal Monday media call.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: If for anybody who doesn't know, every coach in the NFL, the day after a game, usually Monday, uh, the head coach of the team speaks to the media.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: So if they have a media session, be either in person, phone call, Zoom.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: So it was his normal media session.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: So he gets bombarded with questions that he's really not in a position to answer.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Now, I do think he's the head coach.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: So you have to answer some of these.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: There needs to be a message or like a sort of thing.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: But there needs to be something.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: So I mean, and when Nicole Lynn, Jalen's agent, put out the statement, it wasn't apparently in conjunction with the team.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: But, you know, he has to be able to say something.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: What I think is not right.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, again, I think Sirian is the head coach, you got a response, but what is not right is that not that day nor since, if we heard, at least not the time recording this, from the Eagles GM.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: How Howie Rosen Rosen?
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: What can you look at?
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Rosen, Rosen, Howie, Rosen.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: I want Rosen something.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Um, I was about to say Rosenbaum, that's not it.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Um, from Howie, and we have not heard from the, I was gonna call him Howie Lurry, but it's a few of the case.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Howie Roseman.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Roseman.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Howie Roseman.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Thank you very much.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Howie Roseman, Roseman.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Um, we've not from her, we have not heard from the owner Jeff Lurie.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: And that was what threw me.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: I was about to call him Howie Lurie.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: And I think they need to say something, and maybe legally right now they can't.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: We have heard from the league.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, Alan Sills of the League went through and said on Tuesday, this news came out on Monday morning.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: On Tuesday, we've done a full investigation.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: No one did anything wrong.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: All proper protocols were followed, no one did anything wrong.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Goodell at his press conference, NFLPA, called for an investigation.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Roger Goodell says they're welcome to investigate.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: No, I'm sorry.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Again, I'm not a doctor, but I have a hard time believing no one did anything wrong.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying I'm for nothing else.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: He shouldn't have been allowed to fly, I don't think, like on a seven-hour flight across the world.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, that that itself feels like irresponsible, let alone playing in the game.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: And in the beginning, this story was kind of messaged like, what a warrior.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: And I I tweeted, no, no, let's not make this a bro loves football thing or do loves football thing.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, this is unacceptable on everybody's part.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: And sometimes you gotta protect the player from himself.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Yes, exactly.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: It's part of your job.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: And so I this is this is a crazy story.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: It's not going anywhere.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm very curious to see what this does to health and safety.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: And it's also coming off the heels.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: No pun intended, pun intended.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Of two ridiculous roughing the pastors calls on Sunday, all in the name of player health and safety, which obviously we are super supportive of.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: That's where you take a stand.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: That's where we're gonna take a stand, and then Jalen Hurts can play with a blood clot and fly across the country.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Like I are I'm sorry, across the world from London to Philadelphia.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: I don't like it.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Blood clots are such a like serious, serious thing.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: And for them to be for it to be disregarded or not treated with the gravity that it deserves, like that, it's just it's terrible.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: That's horrific.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: And they are different levels of blood clots or superficial blood clots.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: And I like when I came home from my trip in Europe this year, I had a lot of pain in my leg, and I'd had it in my last few days in Paris, and I didn't know what was going on.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: It felt like kind of swollen.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know, I didn't know what was going on.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: So I did fly.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, I was, but I was fine.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Like I took Advil and it helped and whatever, and I was fine.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: And I did fly home, and I went to the doctor the day after I got home, and they said you have a blood clot.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: And I like freaked out, and they're like, No, not that kind of blood clot, but like a superficial blood clot.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: And they said, like, you should take Advil several times a day.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: You should just so that it's it's not unusual, but what I was not doing was playing in an NFL game and then find and I didn't know I had no, but I mean, yeah, you but you it is, but it's serious, like it had had I not gone to the doctor and didn't know, then right.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: So I just think I just think this idea that it's not our fault and we did everything right.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Like I if it were me, and clearly it's not find more answers and you know, yeah.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: And be and be like accountable.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Show some level of like think we're so happy.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Most first and foremost, we're so happy Jalen is okay and that he's gonna make a full recovery.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: It's becoming a favorite.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's because I haven't heard anybody from like the NFL say that.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: And maybe maybe they have, and I missed it, but anyways, I think that that is just pretty crazy.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: And I'm just curious to see also what it does to the sport.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Does it change anything in the sport?
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: I know there are people that feel like maybe there are people that feel like we shouldn't have these international games, and then the NFL announced the other day that I think going forward they're gonna try to have 10 of them.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: I just no, I I know there's no like, yeah, we just want Jalen to be good, but also the procedural part of it needs to be um needs to be really addressed.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Well, and I think what we're also gonna see is you may have a lot of other players coming forward who say things like, Well, this happened on my team and they I I played, and this happened, and I played, you know, like I think we may see more and more of that.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: So no.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: So so that is that is a lot.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: That is a lot.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: So I'm very curious to see how this plays out, and I hope that there's actual change and thank God Jalen's okay.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: And then there are those who are saying, Well, he can sue, and it's gonna be the Philadelphia Jalen's has a great ring to it, or Jalen Delphia, Jalen Delphia, right?
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Jalen Delphia, but you know, thank God, thank God he is okay.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so hey, so do you think the Rams are bad?
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: I think well, I do, and I'm glad you brought this up.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely I do.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: I think they're bad, I think they're in trouble, and you know, I'm gonna go ahead and make a statement that I'm not the first one to make, but I think this goes back to the Australia trip.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: The hubris ego of we have a super team and we're just we're just gonna go the day before we're not taking this seriously, we're going the day before and we're gonna come back.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: It all has consequences.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: The NFL is a finite amount of time.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: You only have so much time in the season.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Every game matters, everything counts, and the way you conduct yourselves.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: And I think this team traded for Miles Garrett, was getting Aaron Donald back, and basically was like, I think they believe their own hype.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: We're winning the Super Bowl, and we're the Rams, and we don't have to worry about it.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Well, guess what?
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Not so much.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they're bad.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: They may not make the playoffs.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: They're two and four, and two and four in a in a uh like a division that you can't like you can't.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, they'll be lucky to make a wild card because let's be honest.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, like the the Niners are six and oh, Seahawks are three and three.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: So you have the Seahawks right now.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: I just think I don't think the Seahawks are bad.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know if the Seahawks are struggling in places and they'll figure that out.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the Rams right now are bad, and they just they just lost four players, including Devontae Adams and Kobe Turner.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: And also Kyron William Williams speaking out, and then also the status of Miles Garrett, like we you know, I I mean if he's not ever gonna play this trade is bad.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: And I think yeah, the hubris is it's very it's very much on display right now.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And I think especially with the lack of attention to the special teams, right?
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: And like what's what's been going on there and like how that Bills game was blown by you know this, like, and then I I don't know.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: The the loss to Arizona, it was like full on display of where the cracks in the approach are not fundamentally sound.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: And you bring up Miles Garrett, and going back to Australia, he was not 100%, he had not been 100% through camp, he'd been hurt.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: You're gonna fly this man to Australia and have him play hurt, then he's on IR.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, talk about also a a different level of injury mismanagement, obviously, from Jalen Hurts, a much different level, but this is another mismanagement.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Like, what are you doing?
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: And I I mean, at this point, he hasn't played since.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not good.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, no, no, it's it's really not good.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: And I don't, I don't know.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think right now they are lucky to be a wild card, and I just do not see Fortnite is not gonna go undefeated, and the Seahawks will lose more than three games, but the Rams will be lucky to make a wild card team, right at this point, right?
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: No, you're you're spot on, you're spot on.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Um, you're I mean, not your, but the 49ers look fantastic.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: They sure do, they look amazing.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: People like Super Bowl contenders, they sure do, and I'm so happy with the 49ers.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: I'm so happy for Brock.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad that the national audience is finally picking up on the fact that Brock Purdy is an elite quarterback in this league.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: And if this continues, he should be the MVP.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: It's not even a question.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Um, but it's been it's a fun and talk.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: You talked about you, Celia, at the beginning at Bend and Don't Break.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: And I think a concern of Fortiner fans is how it got real close there at the end against Washington.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: That happened against Arizona a few weeks ago as well.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: But at the end of the day, they won the game.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: And and my thing is good teams will win those games.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: Even if they almost lose to the much worse team, they find a way to win and they won.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm very happy with them.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: I would really love to see Kyle Shanahan win a Super Bowl.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: I would love that for him.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: And maybe this is the year.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Long way to go.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: But I would love that.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: I would love a party MVP.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: That's another story.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: I would love, I know a lot of people are groaning at the thought of the Chiefs being back, but I would love Travis Kelsey to go out with that.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like yeah.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: And round three between the Niners and the Chiefs.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Like, I think three times a charm.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Like, I think there's that would be that would be really, really fun.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's it's a fun season.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Um, it is very much marred right now by this Jalen Hurt situation, and so we will see how that all plays out, going just in terms of investigations, responsibility, all of the things, right?
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: But um, it is a fun NFL season, and I think we have a very fun weekend ahead of the Niners.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: They play the Falcons this weekend.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: It's it on paper.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: This looks like the Niners should win no problem, but away the 10 a.m.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: Pacific game.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: Sometimes they struggle in Atlanta.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Like I'll be this this is it gonna be kind of an interesting.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: This might be one where this might be the first loss, and it shouldn't be on paper.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: You gotta get a loss at some point, you know.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: And then you definitely have to get a loss at some point.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: Do you think?
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: Are you calling on Monday?
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: We get a Mike McDaniel being fired.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know how they come out of this by with him still having a job.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just I just don't know how it's possible.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: And it makes the most sense.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: I just I mean, I'm kind of surprised we're at Thursday, yeah, and we and it hasn't happened yet, to be honest.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, unless the Chargers are just like we're gonna mess anyway, so we're gonna just gonna keep it rolling with this.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: But I dance with the one who brought you here, yeah, today.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just don't know how you come out of the buy with him.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: So, and you know what else is gonna be an interesting conversation in the next couple weeks on this show and all around is the trade deadline.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: And so we'll see where the Rams are in a couple weeks, but they may be sellers.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
