- 0:00Barbara about Bound Banger management fantasy hockey
- 0:03podcast. Woo woo woo, I felt like you
- 0:07were rushing to say. Yeah, you're like, I felt like
- 0:10you lagged, that's why. Yeah, Yeah, it's not.
- 0:13Like not throwing a curveball at you.
- 0:15Yeah, no, I'm like always like apprehensive about what's gonna
- 0:19happen now. Keep running your toes.
- 0:21Yeah, yeah, always keeping it interesting.
- 0:23Welcome in two Bangor management, the fantasy hockey
- 0:25podcast with Jake Josh and he did not like today, Kev work
- 0:30today. We're going to be doing our Week
- 0:3219 News and Updates episode. Wait, what happens at Tidbits?
- 0:36What? You said news and updates.
- 0:38You didn't mention the tidbits. Yeah, which is the most
- 0:40important part of the? Episode, but not yeah.
- 0:42Yeah. There's a system, guys.
- 0:45OK, as always, you can find the link to our social media, which
- 0:50is in the link tree in the podcast description.
- 0:52So let's get into the news stories and.
- 0:55Tidbits. Thank goodness.
- 0:56From around the league. I was worried we didn't have any
- 0:59tidbits this. Week listeners, you don't even
- 1:00know what kind of agony Kevin and Josh were just.
- 1:03In. Not again now my eye.
- 1:07OK. I was gonna make a comment but
- 1:12it's too much. Yeah, me too.
- 1:15Well, this goes after This is about hockey.
- 1:18Yeah, don't know different kind of Bangor management.
- 1:23Oh my God. Well, that's got to be edited
- 1:26up. Yeah, OK.
- 1:29First on our list, Valerie, Valerie Nichushkin, expected to
- 1:33be back after the break, should slot into a top six role and
- 1:36power play one. Joanne or Lehkonen could be
- 1:39bumped off I think. Before we get into the fantasy
- 1:43ramifications of this, the way you said Valerie and then you
- 1:47said Valerie maybe like made me think of that meme where you
- 1:50like you text her girlfriend like like, like what?
- 1:54What is it like instead of high or like Hannah or like it?
- 1:56Auto corrects. Valerie.
- 2:04I really hope she's not listening.
- 2:06Valerie. Who's Valerie?
- 2:08I think that actually happened to me with like at one point
- 2:12where I was like, man, I wish Valerie would just, you know,
- 2:14like something happens, Valerie. Yeah, the ramifications.
- 2:21Yes. So firstly for who's bumped off,
- 2:24I think Drew is gonna stay. I think he's had such a six
- 2:26season. Yeah.
- 2:28And they'd chemistry with Mckinnon's really there.
- 2:31So I see that. That's my guess.
- 2:34I mean, obviously we'll have to see.
- 2:36And yeah, it's huge for the Abs in overall.
- 2:39I still think they're gonna trade for a centre.
- 2:42I think that would be pretty good.
- 2:43I don't know. Who they're going to make it?
- 2:44Happen. They have space and everything
- 2:46I've seen says they're not done, so I think they will as well.
- 2:49I don't think that will affect Nichushkin.
- 2:52Spot on Power play 1 though. No, I think no, no.
- 2:55No, it's gonna be P1 ahead of these guys.
- 2:57Yeah, yes. Actually it would be a
- 2:59conversation depending who they sign.
- 3:00Mean it's definitely possible, but like everything I've seen,
- 3:03like everyone saying, oh, we need to choose come back so bad,
- 3:06like he needs the power play so much better.
- 3:07He makes the team so much better.
- 3:08So I think like he's a really big piece.
- 3:10Obviously all the office issues is what make is the only reason
- 3:13that there's kind of like any discussion.
- 3:16Or yeah, the true skin and the one of dryer lichenin.
- 3:20Or mystery personally trade for yeah.
- 3:22Yeah, no, no, I, I agree. I think that nutrition is
- 3:26definitely going to be there, but like Middlestadt centering
- 3:28that line just isn't good enough.
- 3:30If they get a better centre, then I think they could be a
- 3:33real contender. This.
- 3:34Year yeah and she's owned in less than he's at 49% owned in
- 3:37Yahoo right now. So I know a lot of people have
- 3:40been asking us like for IR stashes and stuff like that.
- 3:42So I think he's probably the best one because he's coming
- 3:44back immediately after the break and I think it's probably gonna
- 3:47have one of the biggest impacts of the IR guys available.
- 3:49So yeah, definitely, if he's available in your league, grab
- 3:52him now while you can. Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:53For sure cool it just feels unnatural cause we usually spend
- 3:57so much more time on the first part.
- 3:59But I feel like we said others need to set.
- 4:01OK wow I'm shook. OK #2 Boone Jenner expected to
- 4:05be back after the break. Expect him to slot into a top
- 4:08six role in power play. One until Marchenko.
- 4:10Monaghan return, I could have said.
- 4:12Or Marchenko. Or manager.
- 4:17Marchenko was fitted for a face cage for his broken jaw and
- 4:21might be back sooner than expected after the break.
- 4:23Here comes the I mean his I don't really want it.
- 4:25Here comes the boom. His time was 1-6 to 8 weeks.
- 4:30Yeah, so. That kind of was like what week
- 4:322324 yeah of the fantasy season. So that's basically the
- 4:37semifinals or the finals of your fantasy matchup championship.
- 4:40Sorry. So I mean, definitely worth
- 4:42looking at if you can stash them or trade for Marchenko Baboon.
- 4:46Until then, he's gonna be. Another one of those kind of
- 4:49like similar to although I think chicken is better, but another
- 4:52guy who should be coming back like right after the break and
- 4:54is very low owned and on IR. So another guy that I would rush
- 4:57to. Grab really good for her this
- 4:59off leagues especially like yeah, obviously, but he's going
- 5:01to be a guy that's going to be hovering around a double double
- 5:03for sure yeah he'll contribute in blocks at least in the past
- 5:06he has maybe after the injury has game changes a little bit
- 5:09I'm not sure but we'll have to wait and see.
- 5:11But he's gonna be slotting into better deployment that we
- 5:13expected initially when we were first telling you to stash him,
- 5:15right? Yeah, that's good news if you
- 5:18have them on your IR. It's an elite Bangers player
- 5:21with a dual eligibility also. 0.5 points per game and I think
- 5:25that's very doable. Like he's not gonna be the best
- 5:27points on your team, but. It's such a good pick.
- 5:30Up exactly, it really is yeah. For bangers leagues, even
- 5:32without face off I would still try to stash him if you have the
- 5:35chance. But with faceoffs, you like must
- 5:38pick up, right? Now, if you're in a points
- 5:39league with no face off wins, then obviously that's like, I'm
- 5:43not trying to absolutely get him on my team.
- 5:45He's not gonna be as valuable there.
- 5:46But if you're in any kind of bangers league and also has
- 5:49faceoff wins, that's where he's gonna have in his main value.
- 5:52Yeah, and like you said, we weren't that high on him earlier
- 5:55just because of how good the new faces on Columbus have been
- 5:59lately with all the injuries. When he like, the timing is
- 6:02perfect for him. He's coming back with a bunch of
- 6:04guys injured, so he's going to have a chance to take a lot of
- 6:06ice time. Yep, Sidney Crosby expected to
- 6:10play in the Four Nations face off, so he should probably be
- 6:13back after the break. Yeah, I think they just didn't
- 6:15want to risk him not being able to play.
- 6:17And I think he really wanted to play in the Four Nations face
- 6:19off. So no worries there with him.
- 6:22And the Penguins are to be fighting for his job.
- 6:24But I think it's kind of futile. I don't think they're even
- 6:26fighting for a spot anymore. I think the fact that they're
- 6:28like, they might sell, they definitely will.
- 6:31And the fact that, you know, the whole holding Crosby out just so
- 6:33he's healthy enough to play in the Four Nations.
- 6:35And him playing in the Four Nations, even if he's maybe like
- 6:37only at 90%, you know, it shows that they're like, OK, this is
- 6:41we care more about the Four Nations than about any quote, UN
- 6:43quote, playoff hopes this year. Like, so I think it's more
- 6:46people might have seen him day-to-day whatever before, but
- 6:48he should be back after the break.
- 6:50I think the question here is maybe who do you expect them to
- 6:53potentially trade? Ricardo Kel?
- 6:55I think Raquel has made a name for himself this year playing
- 6:58with Crosby. He can get traded.
- 6:59I think even Russ could get traded.
- 7:01I think one thing is almost for sure gone.
- 7:03It really depends on how much they're tearing it down, you
- 7:05know? I think I can seem traded.
- 7:08If they can find anyone to take him, I don't know how bad his
- 7:10contract. Is, I mean they only took didn't
- 7:13take the whole contract, they thought they took like 1/3 of it
- 7:15or something. Either way, I think he's gonna
- 7:17be a name that hasn't really succeeded in Pittsburgh so far,
- 7:20so they might look at moving him.
- 7:23Without Dallas, Can you imagine? That would be fun.
- 7:26Yeah, that'd be crazy. I just wish Crosby would be open
- 7:28minded to going to the. Colorado.
- 7:31I want to see that in my lifetime.
- 7:33Yeah. Why the formations face off is
- 7:34gonna be lit watching. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:36McKinnon. Honestly, maybe we can convince
- 7:38him then. You know Nova Scotia boys,
- 7:40right? Like.
- 7:42So cool. I think Penguins would be happy
- 7:44to go see him win the Cup somewhere else.
- 7:46I think, yeah, I think it's weird though.
- 7:48It would be weird to see him in a different.
- 7:49Direction, but it happens with every player.
- 7:51For sure. And I mean in terms of their
- 7:53like long term, like they could get great assets for him.
- 7:56I mean Sidney Crosby, you know, so it would be the right move.
- 7:59The only reason they wouldn't do it is because of reality and
- 8:02loyalty. That's it.
- 8:03It's at the end of the day, it's up to him.
- 8:04He has full control over where he ends up.
- 8:06So I think it's gonna come down to if he goes to Dubois and says
- 8:09I want to win a Cup this year, like he's going to get traded,
- 8:12but. If they're gonna.
- 8:13Hear my whole career. I think he's gonna wanna stay
- 8:15because. He's too loyal.
- 8:17Yeah, hockey players are just built that way.
- 8:21All he'd be on like his third team right now.
- 8:23Just able to hold him, Yeah. Guys like, you know, we've seen
- 8:27the the end of career. That's like, I would never get
- 8:30traded. And then they the last couple of
- 8:32years, they're bouncing around. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:34Anyway, it would be a lot of fun.
- 8:36Thatcher Demko, injured in the last game before the break.
- 8:39Doesn't seem serious though and should be back after the break.
- 8:45But always concerning for a guy with his injury history.
- 8:48If he goes down like and we're just going to be the starter
- 8:51again, yeah, this sucks. This happens to them all, like
- 8:56way too often. Yeah, I think Lincoln was
- 8:57hovering as a drop before this injury and then this kind of
- 9:00like made you question. You know, like isn't playing
- 9:03well like he's been getting. He's been getting like, I think
- 9:06less starts as it's been progressing, but still, yeah,
- 9:10Demco hurt. It just reminds you that he's
- 9:13still fragile. Still squishy?
- 9:16She gave him and Omark. Yeah.
- 9:18Yeah, so I like, I like Lankinen as a pickup.
- 9:21I think at this point, like if he keeps getting, even if he
- 9:23comes back and he keeps getting these days, at a certain point,
- 9:26they're gonna be like, that's it.
- 9:27Like we can't have him be the full starter.
- 9:29We're gonna do a 5050 and see him for the playoffs.
- 9:31You know, obviously they're fighting for a playoff spot.
- 9:32So that might, but it's not like Lincoln has been playing poorly.
- 9:35So I think I think LinkedIn could very well be a 5050
- 9:38starter for the rest of the season.
- 9:39Yeah, I and that's the thing. I mean, I really like players on
- 9:44teams who are competing for the playoff spot, like a real life
- 9:47yellow spot. So what that means to me is
- 9:49exactly what you said. Like, you know, they're gonna
- 9:51they're gonna play the best guy. But also, yeah, with his injury
- 9:56history, they're gonna have to plan.
- 9:57And one of a choice. Yeah, Yep.
- 9:59So the bigger news is his teammate Quinn Hughes, who's
- 10:01hurt and out of the Four Nations face off.
- 10:04Which I mean, I would be concerned if I'm a huge fan.
- 10:07You know, he missed a couple of games.
- 10:08We thought maybe he would just sitting out so he can play in
- 10:10the tournament and he's not playing in the tournament.
- 10:13And I think he really wanted to play, Yeah.
- 10:14I don't think this is like the All Star game where the players
- 10:16started doing anything they can to get.
- 10:18Out representing your country. This is like players really want
- 10:20to play in this and the fact that he's sitting it out, it's
- 10:23concerning because it means he's clearly not healthy yet, but at
- 10:26the same time he's getting two weeks off, so he should be good
- 10:30but but just in case, Kronik has done really well in his absence.
- 10:33So one for one substitute that I would make any lead they have a
- 10:36Quinn. Hughes.
- 10:37Yeah, you grab her neck until Hughes comes back.
- 10:39Yeah, for sure. I mean, like, this changes
- 10:42everything. If he's out, then I'll probably
- 10:45just yeah, shut Demco. Down any kind of time like he's
- 10:48not yeah, they're not going to be able to.
- 10:50Inch back into and that's why I think there's no.
- 10:52Hope I could see him coming back.
- 10:53Not fully. I could see them rushing him
- 10:55back because their entire playoff hopes.
- 10:58So if they start losing without him and he's like I'm 90% but
- 11:01not all the way there, I think they I could see them.
- 11:03Being like, just come back, yeah.
- 11:07LOL OK Barzal expected to miss six weeks which would bring him
- 11:11back for week 23. If you're not in a playoff
- 11:14position you should consider trading him, and if you're
- 11:16comfortably in the playoffs it could be a very good buy low but
- 11:19definitely don't pay too much. If you're if you're if you have
- 11:21bars out on your team and you're not in the playoffs, you need to
- 11:24try to move them right now. The question is how low do you
- 11:26do to trade him? And it just depends how bad.
- 11:29You just like anyone who I'll be happy to have on my roster like
- 11:34that. I don't see myself dropping in a
- 11:36few weeks. That would take for Barzal at
- 11:37this point, really. He's gonna play Max, like Max
- 11:40week 2324 for you. So like Max semis and finals.
- 11:44And he hasn't even been that good this season.
- 11:46So I think you got to get what you can for.
- 11:47Him, what you need to do is, is really do some shopping if you
- 11:50have Barzal, like you have to try to see what you can get as
- 11:53the best deal because it could be a lot of guys going to offer
- 11:55you kind of scrubs and just hope to pull a fast one on you and
- 11:59listen like they know you're in a desperate spot and that you
- 12:01need the production right now. So maybe there's some
- 12:05competition you can get a better deal.
- 12:06But yeah, don't, don't sell for nothing.
- 12:08But absolutely trade for a guy that's gonna be in your office.
- 12:10It's not gonna be a potential drop.
- 12:12Yeah, we're gonna think of some names like Slip Kovsky.
- 12:16I would laugh sucks but I would take that.
- 12:17Yeah, I would take Slough. Yeah, you would take Slough if
- 12:20you had. Would take Slough over Barcel.
- 12:21Yeah, if I'm a team that's outside of the playoffs right
- 12:23now and I need production and there's not a better guy on
- 12:25waivers. Yeah, it also depends how it's
- 12:28really is, but. Alternatively, you have Slav,
- 12:30would you send him for Marcel in the playoffs?
- 12:32Come through. And have a better playoff
- 12:34schedule than than Islanders do. So even though Barcelona better
- 12:36player than Slough, I'd rather as a person comfortably in the
- 12:39playoffs. I'd rather take the guy who has
- 12:41a better schedule there. Yeah.
- 12:43I'm trying to think of a name. It's what one name Jake
- 12:46Neighbors. No, no, I wouldn't do that.
- 12:49I would do Holloway though. Always too good to give.
- 12:52Yeah, that's fair. I do foreign COV just think you
- 12:55guys on. My team did it good.
- 12:56It's Broncos. Sorry.
- 13:00Yeah, sorry, I don't speak Russian.
- 13:07Should move on to the next. Yep.
- 13:08OK Brian Rust on IR. Not sure if he'll be back after
- 13:12the break. I mean, he'll be back, but not
- 13:14sure if he'll be back right after the break, yeah.
- 13:17He's never coming back. He is the squishiest of the
- 13:19squishies so but he's having a great he always does this, he
- 13:23always hovers around .9 points per game, has a great year, but
- 13:26it's just constantly jumping off IR back and forth.
- 13:29So it's a very frustrating own. There's not much you can do
- 13:32here. I think you just you're not
- 13:33going to sell him while he's on. I just hope he comes back after
- 13:35the break. Do you think they would trade?
- 13:37I'm in real life. Yeah, I think we mentioned that
- 13:39like I could see it really depends how hard they wanna go
- 13:40on the rebuild, but I don't think he's untouchable.
- 13:43Yeah, yeah. Haven Crosby have had like a
- 13:45really good thing going on for years.
- 13:47It's kind of under the radar because they had dental for a
- 13:49long time, right? And it was like the main guy.
- 13:51Yeah, my Rust has quietly been contributing there, too.
- 13:54Yeah. Yeah, but I mean just the newer
- 13:59version of Kunitz, like anyone who plays with Crosby is gonna
- 14:03be good. Yeah, no specific timeline for
- 14:05him though. Right now, but I don't think it
- 14:07was like some long term injury like he should be back at some
- 14:10point after the break. The question is it gonna be
- 14:12right after or like a week or two after?
- 14:13OK, yeah, Noah Dobson is in trade rumors.
- 14:16Not sure if he's gonna be back in time for the fantasy
- 14:19playoffs, but he could be interesting to see where he ends
- 14:22up and also gets sent the other way when he gets sent the other.
- 14:26Way I did some digging on this one and from the insiders that
- 14:30NHL who are reporting on this have kind of said that like not
- 14:34many teams were willing to confirm this so it was kind of
- 14:37just like it came out of nowhere.
- 14:39We don't know where it came and anytime this trade rumors
- 14:41involving the Islanders it's always take with a grain of salt
- 14:44because Lorello is like. He's a lockdown.
- 14:46He's a lockdown. If anything gets out, he's
- 14:49disowning you. He's never talking.
- 14:50To you? Yeah, exactly.
- 14:51So everybody's kind of worried when it comes to on this players
- 14:53and giving away trade tidbits. Whoa.
- 14:59Lou is going to come knocking down our door.
- 15:01I mean I'd love him to be AAA hab but.
- 15:05Yeah. What would you give up for Noah
- 15:07Dobson? I don't even know.
- 15:08I mean like you and something. I think if this trade happens,
- 15:11it's a big mistake on loose part, but we've seen him made
- 15:16yeah for nothing. I think any most other GM's I
- 15:21would say this is never gonna happen, but Lucy seems to make
- 15:23kind of questionable decisions. Like 93 or something.
- 15:28I know he's old but like. That oh.
- 15:31That's a bit crazy by. How old is Lou Lamoriello?
- 15:37Anyways, while they're looking this up, 82, yeah, that's a lot.
- 15:3993382 pretty old. 83 was old. That's pretty old.
- 15:43You look amazing for 93 though. Like, come on.
- 15:46Like, yeah, I. Know you say he looks bad for
- 15:4880. Two, he looks fine for 82.
- 15:52No, but so he we've seen him make questionable decisions.
- 15:55He seems to love guys who are above 30 and signing them to
- 15:58long contracts. Like the transformer?
- 16:00Resign. Resign Nelson.
- 16:02Exactly. Do you remember when he signed
- 16:04Bo Horvat and he was like, yeah, that was probably for too much
- 16:06like you said that publicly, like the second it happened.
- 16:10Highlander Special like then why did you do it?
- 16:13Do this. Yes, I think this would be a big
- 16:17blunder for the Islanders, but I could see it potentially
- 16:19happening. I still if if you ask me, do I
- 16:22think it's going to happen this season?
- 16:23I'd say no, but who knows if it does happen.
- 16:26And like I said, also with his injury right, we don't even know
- 16:29if he'd be back in time for fantasy playoffs.
- 16:30But what's what's interesting is also who gets sent the other way
- 16:33right? So some whoever gets sent the
- 16:35other way would probably be another power play 1 defenseman
- 16:38and maybe not necessarily it could be some different piece,
- 16:42but whoever if it is a defence, a decent defenseman, think
- 16:45there's a very open spot. I know D'angelo's been like
- 16:48solid, but yeah, I don't think he has a lock on that power play
- 16:50by any. Means I mean he has to stop
- 16:51scoring on his own goal. Yeah, that was crazy.
- 16:55Yeah, I'd be like. Yeah, nice.
- 16:57Just like body there. But they are competing it seems.
- 17:03I mean like these is so tight. Yeah, I don't use this.
- 17:06So tight. Yeah, me neither.
- 17:07I don't feel very good, but they used to such like the West is
- 17:09pretty clear at this point, almost.
- 17:11But the East? Like who?
- 17:12I can see this hot streak like convincing you that their
- 17:14playoff team and then he becomes like a buyer for this.
- 17:16Because you want to be a playoff team right there, close enough.
- 17:19He's gonna try to make it happen.
- 17:20Yeah, but I think it's just a huge mistake long term for this
- 17:22team. I think that's why they're just
- 17:23constantly not great. Yeah.
- 17:25It's heroin prevents them from ever getting like a top five
- 17:27pick. So it's kind of like the ABS
- 17:29with Carrie Price. He always sucked, but he's too
- 17:31good to finish in the bottom, so you just admit.
- 17:34It hoping he gets hurt and you can just put him on LTIR or.
- 17:36Something, yeah. Yeah, allow Mark Stone.
- 17:40Yeah, OK. And Mikko Rantanen will be back
- 17:43after the Four Nations break. Hopefully, the tournament will
- 17:46give him time to build chemistry with Aho.
- 17:49Yeah. I don't.
- 17:50Know did you see left like he was injured for a game and the
- 17:53Carolina scored seven goals. That's wild crazy.
- 17:57Obviously this guy is unreal. We've talked about him like
- 18:00nonstop since the trade. Jakey does not a big fan me and
- 18:02Kevin. Do you think he's got?
- 18:04More yeah, me and Kevin are bigger fans, you know, I think
- 18:07he's still gonna be a star, but he can really does need to
- 18:10figure it out with the with the canes.
- 18:12I think something interesting though not necessarily for like
- 18:14fancier for this year, but if he doesn't figure it out with them
- 18:16this year, I could see him not resigning there.
- 18:18I mean, I already think they need to prove to him.
- 18:21Why it's worth Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 18:23So. I would love if he doesn't
- 18:25resign there. Yeah, I would love to see where
- 18:27he goes, that that's it always, always in our minds.
- 18:30Like maybe he'll. Come to Montreal.
- 18:31This is horrible for him cause he wasn't signing with Colorado
- 18:34cause what what did he want like 14 million or something crazy
- 18:37but this is. Not good, like he was willing to
- 18:39take a steep discount and never asked him or something.
- 18:41Yeah. I mean, I don't know what to
- 18:43believe, Right. Like, I mean, obviously he's
- 18:44gonna say that. Yeah, I think it's a bit of a
- 18:47bit of truth from both. I think they were far apart, but
- 18:50I think he was probably willing to take less than 14 mil, but
- 18:53not as low as Colorado wanted. So Colorado's like, oh, he was
- 18:55demanding this much and he's like, I was willing to take a
- 18:57cut. Anyways, Long story short, he's
- 18:59going to be backs and healthy, which is nice and should give
- 19:02him some time to work with Aho bit more.
- 19:04I expect him to be closer to the player he was on Colorado, but
- 19:07not necessarily as good. Yeah, I mean, we, we spoke about
- 19:11miko ampleness. We talked about his apple.
- 19:17We spoken about him an ample amount, OK, and.
- 19:21Do you have a pet with someone to use Lord Ample in this
- 19:23podcast or? Something I could either confirm
- 19:25nor deny. Those forced use of that word
- 19:27I've ever. Seen.
- 19:28Oh yeah, It came out as ampleness, Yeah.
- 19:32Wait, so. So yeah. 2 words at the same
- 19:34time and it just came out like that.
- 19:35Yeah, but I think. You're saying we've talked about
- 19:38it enough and let's move on. No, just say you know what to
- 19:42expect. He's better than this.
- 19:43But how high is the ceiling on this team?
- 19:45We don't know yet. It's still a buy low like you.
- 19:48You made them your by low last week.
- 19:50Realistic. Rantanen.
- 19:53What do you mean yeah OHS obviously, but I still think you
- 19:57could like I don't know I mean it's a good time to buy him, but
- 20:01I I don't think it's gonna be much more over a point per game.
- 20:03But the .6 or whatever pace is not good at all.
- 20:07We'll see. We'll see.
- 20:08I'm curious to see though. That would be very interesting,
- 20:11Josh, as a case study, especially because you're like
- 20:13you have the coach theory is if they do super well this
- 20:17tournament and then suck with Rod, like suck whatever, not be
- 20:21very good offensively like that really just.
- 20:23Confirms your theory. Would even consider firing Rod.
- 20:26No, not because he's like bad. It's just like at certain point
- 20:30you've taken them as far as you could, right?
- 20:32Like if you get eliminated in the second round like five years
- 20:34in a row, at some point, it's just like, OK, maybe it.
- 20:37Does so much for that team and that organization is just too
- 20:40much respect and like it. It could be the right move to
- 20:43get rid of him, but I don't think they ever.
- 20:45Pull the Yeah, it's tough. He's not good for star players,
- 20:47but John Cooper is the best for star players.
- 20:50Is the anti John Cooper because he still has success.
- 20:53But anyway, no, I don't think that would happen.
- 20:54But it's a. Fairpoint, but John Cooper is
- 20:56also a great. Coach, Yeah, he's the best.
- 20:59Yes. OK, that wraps up the tidbits.
- 21:01Let's move on to the Would you rather?
- 21:03So would you Kidding. Wow, that was crazy.
- 21:08Yeah. So would you rather have you
- 21:12taken a look at these? Yeah.
- 21:13I'm looking at it right now. Alright get ready to compare but
- 21:18I tried to compare guys. My team for this episode is guys
- 21:23with good playoff schedules. So trying to compare, I feel
- 21:28like it's easy when it's good versus.
- 21:29Bad. Yeah, that's.
- 21:30A lot. So let's compare good playoff
- 21:32schedules and the first one is maybe the toughest 1 for me and
- 21:37it's Jason Robertson versus Tage Thompson rest of season.
- 21:42This is a really good one. This is They're so crazy close.
- 21:45I'm looking at their stats right now.
- 21:47First of all, last 30 days, they've both been absolutely
- 21:49unreal. So you picked two really guys
- 21:51who are at the their peak, Like they're both not gonna be doing
- 21:55this well for the rest of the season.
- 21:56They're gonna be super good, but not this good.
- 21:58Like Thompson point per game, Thompson at 1.4 over the past
- 22:01month and Robertson at 1.21. Like, I don't think either of
- 22:04them is gonna finish the season with that high of a points per
- 22:06game. But but yeah, I know.
- 22:07They're both unreal, I think. I think I gotta go with
- 22:13Robertson on this one, which is this is really tough.
- 22:16I think could go either way. I'm really.
- 22:19And normally it would be tagged for me, no question.
- 22:21Yeah, the main reason that I'm leaning Robertson is he's
- 22:23actually shooting more than Tage.
- 22:25Yeah, and that's that reliable to stick.
- 22:27Like we know Tage is always going to shoot over three.
- 22:30Yeras Robertson has been below 2 at points this season.
- 22:33I just two and three most of the season.
- 22:35I trust the shots more from Thompson, but I trust the points
- 22:38more from Robertson. I trust Dallas as a team more
- 22:41than Buffalo. I think Buffalo can go an entire
- 22:43week without scoring a goal and be like up classic Buffalo, you
- 22:45know? Yeah.
- 22:46Whereas Dallas is gonna be one of the best teams in the.
- 22:49League also to note that page over the last month, 1.4 points
- 22:52per game and 0.1 power play points yeah that's that's that's
- 22:56just going to show is that 1.3 points he has more points might
- 22:59be 5 points and then Robertson has points.
- 23:04Right. Over the last month, yeah,
- 23:06exactly. So obviously like that's which
- 23:09is like the opposite of what we usually look at positive.
- 23:11Yeah, exactly. But at some point you have to be
- 23:14like, OK, maybe they're probably just isn't good.
- 23:16And, you know, there's also like, possible trades coming in,
- 23:19you know, like his cousins gonna leave.
- 23:20How does that affect them? Yeah, I know.
- 23:22I don't think Cousins is online or power play 1, so maybe it's
- 23:24not that big of an effect. But I think I'm thinking I'm
- 23:27gonna go with Robertson. But I think this is like
- 23:30probably the closest one we've had all season, I think.
- 23:32Yeah, this is wild, actually. So on the one hand, Buffalo is
- 23:35not a playoff team and there's like a slight chance that they
- 23:38shut down Thompson. And not the last week being Week
- 23:4124, but Week 25 like the last. Real week, they'll shut them
- 23:46down. Yeah, but even sometimes they
- 23:49just kind of like do that. But I doubt they do that.
- 23:51It's usually for teams who are like showings for the playoffs
- 23:53as opposed to teams whatever. On the other hand, Buffalo let's
- 23:56in a lot more goals and they have to score more if they want
- 23:59to win games, right? I mean.
- 24:01Dallas don't win what? Yeah, I know, I know.
- 24:04But Dallas is 180, two goals for this season, 139 against Buffalo
- 24:09has 171, four. So you know, only like 11 goals
- 24:14difference 4 but 185 goals against as opposed to 139.
- 24:18So like they get scored on a lot and they need to score more to
- 24:22win. So I'm probably going to give
- 24:24the edge to Tage because the shots are there and you're right
- 24:27with a positive regression for the power lights.
- 24:29So close though. Wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 24:31I I think I mean, I'm going to be the deal breaker here, but I
- 24:36think I would lean tage. I know, I'm sorry.
- 24:40Dang, I just feel like he's when I look at him on the ice, he's
- 24:44just like he's like he's tall, he's the talent, he's the
- 24:48Talisman for Buffalo, like there's nobody else has near his
- 24:50level, right. So like, everything's gonna run
- 24:52through him and he's their best player besides Dalene.
- 24:56So I think I bank on that. I bank on the power play getting
- 25:00a little better. But he can just go for three or
- 25:02four points like any any given night where I know Robinson
- 25:06could do that too, but it feels harder.
- 25:08I don't know. Yeah, this one was stressful.
- 25:10Yeah. Yeah, I like it.
- 25:13So Tage, Kevin. Yeah, Tage.
- 25:15OK, I'm not on the losing side. All right, next one.
- 25:19Similar vibe I feel like, but Matt Duchene versus Kevin Fiala.
- 25:24OK, so this one felt easier to me at first glance, but like I'm
- 25:29looking into it and I know Josh has his answer.
- 25:31Probably locked and loaded. Yeah, I do.
- 25:33But OK, you go first. I think this is an easy Fiala, I
- 25:38think quite easy. I think the shots on goal is the
- 25:41biggest difference to me. And also like you look at
- 25:45Dallas's team and kind of the same reason you guys were saying
- 25:47Tage over Robertson, where Tage is the guy on Buffalo.
- 25:50And Robertson, like he's pretty much he's the guy on Dallas.
- 25:53But Dallas is so spread out, you know, Duchene is not the guy on
- 25:55Dallas. He's been great.
- 25:56He's having an amazing season, but he's probably like third or
- 25:59fourth on that list of like, who's the guy on ego Robertson?
- 26:02You go Johnston, you know, hence then Duchane, like #4 he when
- 26:06he's gonna healthy, he's above Duchene, you know, yeah, he's
- 26:08not even a lock on power play one.
- 26:09I could see Ben flipping him like if, if ever their power
- 26:11play goes cold, you know, like see Ben taking his spot back on
- 26:14power play 1. So I think he's just much less
- 26:16the guy and he's playing insane lately.
- 26:18And even with him playing at his peak, he's at 1.9 shots per
- 26:22game, which is very underwhelming.
- 26:24And he's also at .43 power play points per game, which is like
- 26:27super regression candidate, right?
- 26:28Whereas you look at Fiala, who had a really brutal first half
- 26:31of the season, as is classic for Fiala.
- 26:34Yeah, he's known as second-half Fiala for a reason.
- 26:36Last month he's a point per game and 3.77 shots.
- 26:40He had like two games over the past month.
- 26:41We had ten shots on goal. Anyone who does that, I'm
- 26:44immediately like, this is a guy I need to own on my team.
- 26:46Yeah, so the shots are insane. He's averaging .9 hits over the
- 26:50past month. I don't.
- 26:51I don't expect that to. Whipped cream on top.
- 26:53You know, yeah, exactly. That's just like a cherry on
- 26:55top, so. Or some whipped cream.
- 26:57Yeah, exactly. And but I think those.
- 27:00Guys. Yeah, the final thing to that
- 27:02really cements the field for me is actually I've watched some of
- 27:06these games and the goals he scoring aren't these like fluky
- 27:08like bounce in these chains? Yeah, I haven't actually seen
- 27:12these goals are unreal. Like he's sniping these and he's
- 27:15like you could tell he's in the zone.
- 27:16He's the guy. He's getting way.
- 27:18He's getting more ice time now. Like I think to me this is an
- 27:21easy Fiala. Tough.
- 27:22Yeah, I I get it. Um, I'm probably gonna go with
- 27:26Viola too, because at least the floor is there with the shots.
- 27:30Do I think he's necessarily going to score more points than
- 27:32Duchane? No, but, and yeah, I know I'm
- 27:38still gonna go with him because it's not like she's face off
- 27:41wins, which are also kind of a nice whipped cream filled cherry
- 27:43on top there is there is the fact that he's off position,
- 27:47still getting the face offs. But yeah, I just think that
- 27:51field is a bit more of a rare commodity with 3.5 plus shots
- 27:55over the past 30 days. And yeah, I'm just going to go
- 27:59with him close, though, another good one.
- 28:02The main one of the main reasons why I wanted to put this as a
- 28:06would you rather because I'm also going to go Fiala, but
- 28:09nice. I think if you look at Duchene
- 28:12specifically, once they traded for Gravlin, his shot volume has
- 28:17definitely gone up and I think it's just like the different how
- 28:20the line combo works. His shooting volume has been
- 28:23closer to like mid twos closer to three in the last like 2
- 28:26weeks since the trade. So just want something to
- 28:29monitor. Maybe his shot volume does
- 28:32increase over the rest of the season and isn't just like 1 or
- 28:351.5. Because I think he's like, what
- 28:37a great player. And I think Dallas, to win the
- 28:39Cup, will need to get the best out of him, right?
- 28:41Yeah. So I think he can have a large
- 28:44part in the team for the rest of the season.
- 28:46I think he's better than Ben at this point.
- 28:49So I I bank on him being in the P1 over over Ben.
- 28:53But yeah, I think Fiala has more of like a set and forget kind of
- 28:57like deployment there and has a higher ceiling, especially in
- 29:01shots. So I think that's where I'm
- 29:03leaning as well. Yeah.
- 29:04All right, next one little bit of lower stakes, but still fun
- 29:07in my opinion. But clothes guru or Marco Rossi?
- 29:11So these are both good playoff schedules.
- 29:14They have the same good playoff. Schedule.
- 29:16Is a good one. They're very, very similar, like
- 29:19they're points almost identical, PowerPoint almost identical,
- 29:22their shots same, hits, blocks same.
- 29:24The one difference is Jerry wins more face offs, but I think
- 29:27that's pretty ministration and multi position.
- 29:29But I think that's like more minor when comparing, but that
- 29:32is definitely A plus. I think the big thing is who is
- 29:35more likely to keep their power play one spot.
- 29:38Rossy's got that spot until Kaprizov comes back.
- 29:40Then he's bumped off and Kaprizov comes back in five
- 29:45weeks, 4-5 weeks. So.
- 29:49So Rossi has a lock on power play one until then, but that is
- 29:53his due date. Or as Guru has power play one,
- 29:56it's kind of more wishy washy, you know, because when Norris
- 29:59comes back, she was still on power play one over Norris and
- 30:02Norris is super squishy. So even if he comes back and
- 30:04takes it, he could get injured again.
- 30:06So I'd say Ross has a stronger hold on power play one until cap
- 30:10is back, but then he's guaranteed off it.
- 30:12Whereas Guru has kind of like an iffy hold on power play one, but
- 30:15it's there's no end date like specific end date insight.
- 30:19Who gets more points until the fantasy playoffs?
- 30:22Until the playoffs, I think my choice on this is as Shirou over
- 30:26Rossi. Yeah, I've been very impressed
- 30:28with Rossi this year. I'm Giroud overall, also I.
- 30:33Don't know he's on your team? No, but no, like like I was
- 30:36literally just gonna say that it's been frustrating owning him
- 30:39at times, especially because. Category coverage has definitely
- 30:42suffered this year compared to previous years is basically just
- 30:45face off wins and that's. It the hits are up, but like I'm
- 30:48averaging around 1, which is not good, but it's nice.
- 30:52It's just why can't he shoot twice?
- 30:54Yeah, you know, like you have 60 minutes, just two.
- 30:58Times. It is crazy.
- 30:59For the love of God, but I do like the multi position and 8
- 31:041/2 plus face offs on the season.
- 31:06So that's pretty great. And it's also picked up
- 31:09recently, especially the playoffs, the hits, the
- 31:12faceoffs. If you look on the season 0.84
- 31:16points she reads 0.66. So just goes to show that I
- 31:20think, I think Rossi does have more of a offensive touch to
- 31:24him. Yeah.
- 31:26But is there a big enough difference overall for that to
- 31:29make a difference come playoff time and the power play
- 31:32deployment? I don't know, I think gonna face
- 31:35off slowly. It's it's not an easy Giroud,
- 31:38but it's a clear Giroud non faceoffs league.
- 31:40It's a much more difficult. Conversations you get if Giroud
- 31:44ends up for whatever reason, not on that P1.
- 31:46I think he's significantly worse than Rossi.
- 31:47Yeah, I agree. So that's the thing I will say
- 31:50Rossi not on power play one is still a very valuable player.
- 31:53Yeah, Shirou not on power play one I think is like pretty bad.
- 31:57Like I think he's he. I mean, you said it was tough to
- 31:59own him for some parts, but lately he's been great.
- 32:01And I think that directly corresponds to his time on power
- 32:03play one. That's fair.
- 32:05OK, so Jeru all around though at the moment.
- 32:09I I trust this deployment more than Rossi?
- 32:11I think so, yeah. OK.
- 32:14Alright, next one. This is a fun one.
- 32:18Thomas Harley versus Lane Hudson, rest of season.
- 32:23Both PP1 defensemen. Wow, as of right now, OK, um,
- 32:30hardly getting that high skinning spot Lane Hudson kind
- 32:33of in the cold street right now as the Habs are completely in
- 32:36the cold streak. But we know we see what Lane can
- 32:38do. He's so fun to watch.
- 32:40Harley honestly as a when he has the P1 deployment, he becomes
- 32:44extremely fantasy relevant. So what are you choosing
- 32:48basically maybe comes back in the playoffs?
- 32:51I just think that Harley's back categories and stuff are a
- 32:56little bit more reliable, right? So with the two blocks compared
- 33:00to lanes 1.43 over the last two weeks.
- 33:02Other than that, they're not great back category defensive in
- 33:05anyways. Dallas is just so much better.
- 33:10You know that's what it is. And like the Habs are streaky
- 33:14and he's a rookie, so he's streaky.
- 33:16So if you're looking for a reliability Harley, if you're
- 33:20looking for the Hail Mary lane, but I think I'm just going to go
- 33:23hardly. Overly performing right now, if
- 33:25you look at the last two weeks since he got that P1 spot, he's
- 33:27performing at what we expected lane to do.
- 33:29Pretty much. Pretty much same stats I would.
- 33:32Say, but like that's when did we expect Lean to do this?
- 33:35I mean, this is what we thought line ceiling would be, right?
- 33:37Hovering around per game. Like really good on the power
- 33:39play, you know, third of his points coming from there.
- 33:40Yeah, blocking and shooting just a little bit.
- 33:43No hits. Yeah.
- 33:45They kind of feel like a similar archetype of.
- 33:47Player No They. Are I'm I'm personally, I think
- 33:50rest of the season I'm going hardly.
- 33:51Yeah. So I think I I rely on the
- 33:54Dallas team being good. He's like the main defenseman
- 33:58that's there for attacking capabilities.
- 34:01I wanna say Elaine though, because it's so much more fun.
- 34:03But like I think in real life lanes better defenseman as of
- 34:07right now, but if I wanted to build a power play, but as a
- 34:11whole or not as good as Dallas. No, that's it.
- 34:13That's why I give the edge to Harley.
- 34:15It just depends. If you know, Hardy gets you all
- 34:16the way and he doesn't play for, he loses that power play spot
- 34:19for the semifinals and finals. I mean, that's a big deal.
- 34:21So you gotta take that into account, yeah.
- 34:24I think I'm actually gonna go against the grain on this one
- 34:27and choose Hudson. So the way I see it, both of
- 34:30them are pretty garbage out back at.
- 34:32So I'm not looking at A2 versus a 1.4 blocks and.
- 34:35Let me two blocks is not nothing.
- 34:37Versus 1.4 it's like .6%. I don't think that's a big
- 34:39difference. Like they have a .1 hits
- 34:41difference shoots like .2 more, but whatever I I look at these
- 34:46back cats comparison and I see neither of them as a good back
- 34:49cats guy. So I'm taking that out of the
- 34:51equation. Who's gonna get more points in
- 34:53power play points? Dallas is obviously a better
- 34:55team than Montreal. Not even close.
- 34:57There's obviously the looming threat of he's going and coming
- 35:00back, but it seems like he's pretty much shut down until.
- 35:02The playoffs for defenceman. So yeah, they may trade for the
- 35:06fence. There's that looming threat.
- 35:07But even that, you know, I'm not considering too much.
- 35:09One thing I am considering is I'm thinking specifically who's
- 35:12going to be better come playoff time.
- 35:13They both have the same schedule of 344 in weeks 22 to 2024.
- 35:17So they get the same amount of games played.
- 35:20But I think one thing that I like about teams that are not
- 35:25great is when you get late into the season, like it's going to
- 35:29be around fantasy playoffs, that's when they really just let
- 35:31their young guys kind of go nuts and really develop.
- 35:34So I love grabbing these San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks,
- 35:38like Habs guys like towards the end of the season because I
- 35:41think that's really when they pop off.
- 35:42That's the reason, you know, that's reason I'm holding on to
- 35:44slap for so long. You know, it's like they they
- 35:46have a great schedule and like once they kind of officially
- 35:49give up on playoffs, they empty the cupboard at the at the trade
- 35:52deadline and sell all their guys on expiring deals.
- 35:54Yeah, that just gives more ice time for these young guys to
- 35:56kind of play around and have fun without the stress of actually,
- 35:58you know, trying to win. So for that reason, I'm going
- 36:02with the with Hudson. So you say you you're mean.
- 36:05You may think a loss for the next like 3 or 4.
- 36:06Weeks. But I think when it comes to the
- 36:07playoffs, those weeks, I think Hudson's gonna be better and I
- 36:09think that's where I care more. It's pretty convincing.
- 36:13It's a good argument. Yeah, it is.
- 36:15It is. I'm gonna stick with Harley, but
- 36:18it's a good one. I like this next one too.
- 36:20Alright, last one goalie time. Dustin Wolf versus USC Saros the
- 36:27Juice rest of season Calgary, Nashville starting goalies.
- 36:33What do you think? I'm really happy that I held on
- 36:38to Freddie over Dustin Wolf, or that's the first thing I want to
- 36:41say. Yeah.
- 36:42Are you thrilled? Yeah, I'm doing great now.
- 36:44I really am. Misery.
- 36:47He's been hoarded all season. Yeah, for nothing.
- 36:50For nothing. Anyway, League specific stuff.
- 36:54Listeners don't have to worry about that, thankfully.
- 36:56Anywho, moving on. Hmm, crazy that this is even a
- 37:01question almost. You know, yeah, like crazy.
- 37:03I mean, Staros was probably a top five drafted goalie in your
- 37:06league, rightfully so. OK, since the cheeky's not
- 37:11going, I'll I'll jump in and I'm actually gonna go with Wolf over
- 37:16sorrows. And I think this is a crazy pic
- 37:18because normally I would 100% choose the, you know, tried and
- 37:21true guy, the top five fantasy asset over like the young
- 37:23rookie, you know, But I think the main thing is where those
- 37:26teams are in the standings and Calgary is fighting for a
- 37:29playoff spot. You know, they're going to be
- 37:30giving it their all every game and Nashville is bottom of the
- 37:33league and I've been watching their games lately.
- 37:35They are so bad. Like, they're really, like, even
- 37:37the games they win, it's like A5 four-game or 65 game, you know,
- 37:40like, they played the Sharks twice and won both games, like,
- 37:427-6. Yeah.
- 37:43Like, if you can't get a good performance out of your goalie
- 37:46against the San Jose Sharks, then you're not gonna get a good
- 37:48performance out of your goal, you know?
- 37:49So I think that already on the season, Wolf has better stats
- 37:54and just where the team is going to be at the time and where they
- 37:56are now. I think I gotta go with Wolf.
- 38:00Yeah, I'm going with Wolf as well.
- 38:05I think. I think now Calgary is really in
- 38:07a in a cemented kind of in the playoff race as opposed to what
- 38:12Josh thought for the whole season.
- 38:13I still think they're gonna make it, but I'm impressed they've
- 38:16hung around this. Long I think Nashville just like
- 38:19too inconsistent at this time. Even though they've really been
- 38:21popping off lately offensively, they've still letting in a lot
- 38:26of goals and we've seen Syros have like arguably the worst
- 38:28season this year. So I think Wolf has only been
- 38:32getting better. I've heard a lot of things of
- 38:34the dressing room, really trusting the kid and really
- 38:36being like whenever he's in net we have a chance to win type of
- 38:39vibe, which is really impressive.
- 38:41So I think as this thing goes on, I think he gets better and I
- 38:45take him over Saros. So probably make that trade if
- 38:47you have zeros. I think you can get both plus
- 38:50probably. Yeah, I agree actually.
- 38:52So that's part of it for sure. I'm going to go with Wolf as
- 38:56well because of both things that you said, the playoff race is
- 38:59really meaningful. One thing is like, how does
- 39:03Nashville just give up after all the stuff they did to try to be
- 39:06good this year? You know what I mean?
- 39:08Like, how do they like properly give up?
- 39:10Does that mean they're gonna compete till the end or does it
- 39:13mean they're just gonna like. They're gonna compete until they
- 39:15have no choice. They spend money on free agents.
- 39:17They're not. I think, but they literally are
- 39:19not. They don't have a chance at
- 39:21playoffs. Like even if they go on some
- 39:23crazy winning streak, they're just they're cooked.
- 39:26Look at the standing. Very, very unlikely.
- 39:28I mean, they're, they're what, below San Jose or they're
- 39:31around? San Jose, Chicago.
- 39:32So like. They're near Chicago, I think.
- 39:35Yeah, so there you would Basically third worst in the
- 39:38entire Western Conference. They have 45 points on the
- 39:41season. The Blackhawks have 41, so.
- 39:44In the playoffs, they're not even fighting for the playoffs.
- 39:46Yeah, so I mean, that's it though.
- 39:48I just like, don't know. Like, yes, I think Wolf makes
- 39:50more sense. They're going to give him like
- 39:51more of the timeshare and everything, but they're just not
- 39:54gonna place arrows as much like. Play.
- 39:56I'm just gonna get bad, bad quality.
- 39:58Starts. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:59There's They're nine points behind the Anaheim Ducks.
- 40:04Is it to say? This is true.
- 40:07OK, Yeah. So I'm going to go with Wolf as
- 40:10well. But this is the most shocking
- 40:14one of all of them, I think. How the mighty have fallen.
- 40:16Yeah. Literally that's why you go 0
- 40:18goalie strategy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:21For sure. Cool, so that wraps up our week
