- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 3: The rex was not chasing the jeep. Murray, Murray, you there.
- 0:09Speaker 3: You love sandwiches. Huh, Let's go to eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It was bo.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Wow that Prime time. Maybe I had a crush on
- 0:18Speaker 3: Betty Rubble.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 2: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 3: He caught them the game last night, although they won
- 0:28Speaker 3: the game.
- 0:29Speaker 2: You're listening to to gottson Company. He is the voice
- 0:33Speaker 2: of the Knicks and the NBA. I am so excited
- 0:36Speaker 2: for KNICKSCAFS coming up Eastern Conference Finals. Mike Breen joins us,
- 0:40Speaker 2: Right now, I made the mistake. I think I told
- 0:42Speaker 2: you guys on air. I'm telling Taylor right now. I
- 0:45Speaker 2: made the mistake. I constantly Mike him telling Taylor when
- 0:48Speaker 2: you're trying to book a play by play guy, make
- 0:51Speaker 2: sure they're not doing a game when you send them
- 0:53Speaker 2: a text. And Mike Breen, what did I do the
- 0:55Speaker 2: other night while you were calling a pretty big game?
- 0:58Speaker 3: What did I do?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Mike?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Tell the audience, Tell Taylor what it is that I
- 1:01Speaker 3: did to you?
- 1:03Speaker 1: Something very inconvenient. You texted me multiple times. Yes, but
- 1:12Speaker 1: you did apologize, and we've decided we're not going to
- 1:15Speaker 1: apologize anymore.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yes, you and I have a pack that we will
- 1:19Speaker 2: no longer apologize to each other. Mike, I am wondering.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I am doing well. I love that you call me
- 1:27Speaker 2: John only. My mom she used to call me John
- 1:29Speaker 2: only when she was angry. But I love that you
- 1:31Speaker 2: do it, so thank you for doing it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm not angry, though, I do it at a friendship. Okay.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I'm wondering here as the voice of the Knicks, at
- 1:40Speaker 2: someone who knows that fan base and that market and
- 1:43Speaker 2: that organization very well in the league, what, Mike Breen,
- 1:47Speaker 2: if you could articulate for us what it would mean
- 1:50Speaker 2: for the Knicks to win. Not that you're rooting for it,
- 1:52Speaker 2: you have to remain neutral, but what it would mean
- 1:54Speaker 2: to that market, that fan base, if indeed the Knicks
- 1:57Speaker 2: were to win an NBA championship.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Well, there are a lot of loyal, hungry fan bases,
- 2:05Speaker 1: but the hunger and the fan base that is the
- 2:09Speaker 1: Knicks is off the charts. Obviously. The last title is
- 2:13Speaker 1: seventy three, the last trip to the finals is ninety nine.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And it's not just that it's been so long since
- 2:20Speaker 1: they won a championship for the last two and a
- 2:24Speaker 1: half decades, although not the last four or five years,
- 2:28Speaker 1: but they went about two decades where they weren't just bad,
- 2:31Speaker 1: they were one of the worst teams in the league.
- 2:33Speaker 1: They had seventeen win seasons multiple times. They had twenty
- 2:37Speaker 1: three win seasons multiple times. So to have a team
- 2:42Speaker 1: that not only every night competes and you have a
- 2:45Speaker 1: chance to win, but now a team that is a
- 2:47Speaker 1: legitimate championship contender, it would be one of the most
- 2:54Speaker 1: emotional times in the history of New York sports. It
- 2:57Speaker 1: would be that powerful. And I'm not talking just basketball,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm talking about all sports. Yeah, because it's been so
- 3:02Speaker 1: long and there's so many fans that have never seen it.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Mike bigfan Taylor, what did you think was the best
- 3:10Speaker 4: case scenario when the Knicks signed Jalen Brunson.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Well did a lot of games when he was with Dallas,
- 3:19Speaker 1: and I remember jeff A Gundi and Mark Jackson, who
- 3:23Speaker 1: were doing the games with me at the time. They
- 3:26Speaker 1: were talking about, man, if this guy ever got his
- 3:29Speaker 1: own team, he could be special. So off there scattering report.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I knew he could be great, and there were games
- 3:37Speaker 1: he had there. There was that one playoff series in
- 3:39Speaker 1: Dallas that doncuch missed a bunch of games, and I
- 3:42Speaker 1: think Jalen Brunson had forty one in one of those games.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And you could tell if he just got the opportunity
- 3:49Speaker 1: for him to run his own team and it wasn't
- 3:51Speaker 1: gonna happen in Dallas. So thought he would be really good.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Thought he could be an All Star player. I did
- 3:57Speaker 1: not think he would be an MVP candidate like this.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And I spoke to his dad during the Philadelphia series
- 4:03Speaker 1: and he says the same thing. He goes, I knew
- 4:06Speaker 1: my son would be good. That I think it'd be
- 4:08Speaker 1: this good. I don't think anybody did except Jalen Brunson himself.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Mike.
- 4:13Speaker 2: If he pulls this off, does he belong with the
- 4:15Speaker 2: Mount Rushmore of New York Knicks.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yes, really, that's a simple answer. Yeah. I mean you
- 4:23Speaker 1: have to win a championship to really beyond that Mount Rushmore.
- 4:26Speaker 1: So there's only a handful that are right now eligible.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Although Patrick Ewing is on the Mount Rushmore and will
- 4:33Speaker 1: always be because he came so close and what he
- 4:36Speaker 1: meant for so many years. But I think he would
- 4:38Speaker 1: have to because of where he where he took the organization.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Before he came on, you know, Julius Randall had started
- 4:46Speaker 1: help with the turnaround, add did Tom Thibodeau. They were
- 4:50Speaker 1: very important pieces that Leon Rose brought in. But for him,
- 4:55Speaker 1: he not only changed the direction of the franchise, he
- 4:58Speaker 1: changed the perception. Now the Knicks are looked upon as
- 5:02Speaker 1: one of the elite franchises in the NBA. For a
- 5:05Speaker 1: long time, it was not anything far from that. And
- 5:09Speaker 1: I think that because it's not only what he's done
- 5:11Speaker 1: in terms of victories, he's changed the whole direction and
- 5:14Speaker 1: perception of the franchise. And to win a title for
- 5:17Speaker 1: a team that has won since nineteen seventy three, I
- 5:20Speaker 1: think he would deserve to be up there.
- 5:22Speaker 3: The great Mike Breen is with us.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I'm wondering, from a professional standpoint, Mike, do you've been
- 5:27Speaker 2: doing this so long at such a high level and
- 5:29Speaker 2: called so many big games, I mean just massive games,
- 5:32Speaker 2: finals games, Game Seven's I am wondering, does Mike Breen
- 5:35Speaker 2: still get that feeling in his stomach the morning of
- 5:39Speaker 2: like tomorrow morning? Will you wake up kind of nervous,
- 5:42Speaker 2: but also excited because you know you're sitting down to
- 5:45Speaker 2: do a big game of the Mecca tonight.
- 5:47Speaker 1: No John, not in the morning. What I'll do when
- 5:50Speaker 1: I stand on the court and it's right before we
- 5:52Speaker 1: go on the air and the builds that's going crazy.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And that's every year. You know, I get butterflies, and
- 5:58Speaker 1: I think I'd feel odd if I didn't get them,
- 6:01Speaker 1: But every year before, especially Game one of the Finals,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and then if there's a Game seven, that's the one
- 6:07Speaker 1: time where the butterflies really are present, the nerves are there,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and it's it's just the most one wonderful feeling. And
- 6:16Speaker 1: it's going to be like that tomorrow just because of
- 6:18Speaker 1: the act. It's usually every series it's the first home game.
- 6:24Speaker 1: So Game three in Cleveland, they're going to be off
- 6:27Speaker 1: the charts in terms of their emotion. So those those
- 6:31Speaker 1: games get get the butterflies going, get the adrenaline flowing.
- 6:34Speaker 1: But it's they'll be come Finals time, no matter who's
- 6:38Speaker 1: in it. That's when I get those real butterflies right
- 6:40Speaker 1: before game one.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Well, Mike, big Fan, I'm wondering as we start getting
- 6:46Speaker 5: closer to the end here, where you start seeing who's
- 6:49Speaker 5: going to be there all right? Do you find yourself
- 6:51Speaker 5: rooting more for location or gravitas.
- 6:56Speaker 3: It's a great question, it really is.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yes, it is a great question. I think you want
- 7:02Speaker 1: to see the best matchup. You want to see the
- 7:04Speaker 1: two best teams, because you're always hoping for a finals
- 7:08Speaker 1: to be an all time classic. Now, sometimes an all
- 7:13Speaker 1: time classic has nothing to do with who are the
- 7:15Speaker 1: best two teams. Sometimes it's who is the unbelievable underdog,
- 7:19Speaker 1: And we've had a few of them recently, For example,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Indiana last year. Nobody thought Indiana was ever going to
- 7:25Speaker 1: make it to the finals last year, and people forget
- 7:28Speaker 1: in Game seven without Halliburton, they were leading at halftime,
- 7:33Speaker 1: and if they would have won that championship last year,
- 7:36Speaker 1: it would have been the most improbable run to a
- 7:38Speaker 1: championship in NBA history. Then you look back three years ago,
- 7:43Speaker 1: Miami is playing Denver in the finals. Miami was in
- 7:46Speaker 1: the playing game that year. So sometimes those storylines make
- 7:51Speaker 1: it even better, even though it's not the two best teams.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But those are the type of things that you root for.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Are there certain cities that are a little more enjoy
- 8:00Speaker 1: able to spend five days in a Row and yeah,
- 8:02Speaker 1: there's no question about that. But it's more of storylines
- 8:06Speaker 1: of teams and storylines of players, like if there's a
- 8:09Speaker 1: certain player that you know has a chance to finally
- 8:12Speaker 1: get it done. Things like that. Those are what Those
- 8:15Speaker 1: are the matchups that we that we get really excited about.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Mike, what would you say to the people who are
- 8:20Speaker 4: telling Knicks fans to act like they've been there before?
- 8:23Speaker 4: But it's just the Knicks fans really remembering the times
- 8:26Speaker 4: of having like the low Munks and Lance Thomas front courts.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Well first, so how could you tell them act like
- 8:34Speaker 1: you've been there when they haven't been there?
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we don't know how to act.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You're right, Yes, it doesn't make any sense, and they
- 8:43Speaker 1: have every right. You know, there's a I don't off, guys,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I've ever seen it. You know. The great baseball writer
- 8:48Speaker 1: Roger Angel, he wrote an essay about what it means
- 8:52Speaker 1: being a fan and and how the caring factor, the
- 8:56Speaker 1: factor of really caring so so strongly about something even
- 9:01Speaker 1: though it makes no sense, how much you care about
- 9:05Speaker 1: a ball going in a basket, or, in this case,
- 9:07Speaker 1: when he's talking about baseball, somebody hitting a ball over
- 9:09Speaker 1: a fence look it up and read it. I'll never
- 9:13Speaker 1: do it justice by talking about it. It's one of
- 9:15Speaker 1: the most beautiful things ever written about being a fan.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And to me, that's one of the highlights of doing
- 9:21Speaker 1: the finals and doing the playoffs every year is how
- 9:25Speaker 1: crazy the fan base loves their team, how much they
- 9:28Speaker 1: care about their team and care about the players on
- 9:31Speaker 1: that team. You know, somebody wrote a great line during
- 9:35Speaker 1: the pandemic when there were no fans and it just
- 9:37Speaker 1: seemed odd to be calling games when there was no
- 9:40Speaker 1: fan noise, and it said, fans are the oxygen of
- 9:44Speaker 1: pro sports. And it's such a great line and it's
- 9:47Speaker 1: so true, and it really comes to fruition in the playoffs.
- 9:52Speaker 1: You could see last night. You see some of the
- 9:53Speaker 1: shots that they were taking to that game Game seven,
- 9:56Speaker 1: the absolute joy, the ultimate joy of the Cavs fans
- 10:01Speaker 1: last night. And then you saw some shots of the
- 10:03Speaker 1: Pistons fans and it was just such misery of the
- 10:07Speaker 1: seasons over season that they thought they could win a title.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It's uh, it's really one of the reasons why we
- 10:13Speaker 1: all love sports, and and for me calling these big
- 10:16Speaker 1: games and seeing that that joy and seeing how much
- 10:19Speaker 1: it can hurt too. Is all part of the experience.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Mike, what can you tell us about the Calves team?
- 10:36Speaker 2: Because I was telling Taylor as a Knick fan, I'm
- 10:38Speaker 2: uncomfortable with how easy Nick fans think this series is
- 10:41Speaker 2: going to be. What can you tell Because Nick fans
- 10:44Speaker 2: are confident, cocky, we should act like we've been there before.
- 10:47Speaker 2: But to your point, we've never been there before. What
- 10:50Speaker 2: can you tell them about this Calves team?
- 10:53Speaker 1: It's going to be a really tough series. Uh, It's
- 10:56Speaker 1: a team that keeps getting better with the exception of
- 10:59Speaker 1: games last series. But people forget, like James Harden was
- 11:04Speaker 1: acquired mid season. Continuity is the most underrated part of
- 11:09Speaker 1: the success of a basketball team, and they're still learning
- 11:12Speaker 1: how to play with them. He still learning how to
- 11:13Speaker 1: play with them, but he can be so dangerous in
- 11:18Speaker 1: this particular series, and the fact that he doesn't have
- 11:21Speaker 1: to be the guy. He no longer has to be
- 11:23Speaker 1: the guy. So that's Number One. Donovan Mitchell, who finally
- 11:26Speaker 1: got to a conference final. So happy for him because
- 11:29Speaker 1: he's one of the best young men in the tire
- 11:31Speaker 1: NBA in terms of character and the type of teammate
- 11:34Speaker 1: he is. In addition to the talent, so you've got
- 11:36Speaker 1: an explosive backcourt. I think the guy that is going
- 11:41Speaker 1: to be key for them as Evan Moldley. Mobley raises
- 11:44Speaker 1: their ceiling from a good team to a great team
- 11:46Speaker 1: when he plays at a really high level. And he
- 11:49Speaker 1: showed a couple of games in that he needs to
- 11:51Speaker 1: be more consistent in some of these, but sometimes it's
- 11:53Speaker 1: because of what the defense does. But they're a really
- 11:56Speaker 1: good team. They're really well coached. I thought Kenny Atkinson
- 12:00Speaker 1: did a great job in that series and didn't panic
- 12:03Speaker 1: after that that horrible loss in Game six, switched a
- 12:06Speaker 1: couple of things. Uh, and here they are. It's going
- 12:09Speaker 1: to be a long, hard fought series.
- 12:12Speaker 2: What's since you're around the team all the time. I'm
- 12:14Speaker 2: wondering the biggest difference or a couple of differences between
- 12:18Speaker 2: Mike Brown and former Knicks coach Tom Thibodau.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Very different styles and very different approaches too. Tom Thibodeau
- 12:28Speaker 1: is one of the most brilliant basketball minds I've ever
- 12:31Speaker 1: been around in the years that he was there. Just
- 12:33Speaker 1: he just learned so much from him from him, Uh,
- 12:36Speaker 1: and Mike Brown has the same thing. But Mike Brown
- 12:39Speaker 1: is different in terms of he's much more collaborative. Tom Thibodeaux,
- 12:43Speaker 1: it's his show. This is the way we're doing it,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and it's going to work, and it's proven that it
- 12:48Speaker 1: has worked. But with Mike Brown, he takes suggestions from players,
- 12:53Speaker 1: he takes suggestions from his assistant coaches, and he's not
- 12:56Speaker 1: afraid to try them. And he's not only that, but
- 12:59Speaker 1: he's not afraid to say, hey, this wasn't my idea,
- 13:02Speaker 1: that was my assistant coach. He's been he's been complementing
- 13:05Speaker 1: the assistant coaches all year long, and he's talking about
- 13:07Speaker 1: the players. You know, I got input from the players
- 13:09Speaker 1: on this, and he publicly talks about it. You don't
- 13:13Speaker 1: see a lot of head coaches in any sport giving
- 13:15Speaker 1: most of the credit when things go well to their
- 13:19Speaker 1: staff and to their players, and when things don't go well,
- 13:22Speaker 1: he always says, the buck stops with me. So I've
- 13:25Speaker 1: been I've been so impressed without Not only is he
- 13:28Speaker 1: not afraid to take suggestions because there are a lot
- 13:30Speaker 1: of good basketball minds there, but he is the first
- 13:34Speaker 1: guy to admit that he has taken a suggestion and
- 13:36Speaker 1: it wasn't his suggestion that turned it around. It's it's
- 13:39Speaker 1: really impressive how secure he is in himself in terms of,
- 13:43Speaker 1: you know, being able to do that publicly often.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Mike, what's your Mount Rushmore of WFAN.
- 13:50Speaker 3: This is great?
- 13:51Speaker 2: He used to work at wfa N. He loves the station.
- 13:54Speaker 2: O the way, I want to guess it? Could I
- 13:55Speaker 2: guess it? Can I guess it?
- 13:56Speaker 1: I need?
- 13:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 13:58Speaker 1: I did not see this one, Covin, all right, go ahead,
- 14:01Speaker 1: it was.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It was out of left field, especially when you consider
- 14:05Speaker 2: the Western Conference finals.
- 14:06Speaker 3: To bufton, I go ahead, Mike, ye.
- 14:08Speaker 5: While he has a second to think about it, are
- 14:10Speaker 5: we counting Mike and the mad Dog as one or
- 14:12Speaker 5: two entities?
- 14:13Speaker 3: So well, let's ask Mike that question. Okay, So Mike
- 14:19Speaker 3: the obvious.
- 14:20Speaker 1: There, They're clearly right there.
- 14:22Speaker 2: All right, So I'm gonna guess. I'm guessing Mike Breens.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I am guessing that was me choking on my own flem.
- 14:28Speaker 2: I just got off a flight. I am guessing Mike Breens.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Mount Rushmore of w f A N.
- 14:34Speaker 3: People.
- 14:35Speaker 2: This is a tough one because he used to work there.
- 14:37Speaker 2: He knows the inner workings of that place. Would Mark
- 14:40Speaker 2: churn Off be on your Mount Rushmore?
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah? You know, that's for a lot of fans don't
- 14:45Speaker 1: know who he is, but he was the brilliant program director.
- 14:48Speaker 1: But him and Mark Mason, who was who preceded him,
- 14:51Speaker 1: and Mason was the one that put Mike and the
- 14:52Speaker 1: mad Dog together. So make can they go in as
- 14:56Speaker 1: a as a duo?
- 14:57Speaker 2: I don't know, all right, you're gonna put your going
- 15:00Speaker 2: to put Don Imis on the mount rushmore correct?
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yeah? I think so, of course. Yeah. The station.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Okay, so we have Mike, Chris and Imus so who
- 15:09Speaker 2: is Mike Breen's fourth.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Well a big part of the station and a really
- 15:17Speaker 1: important part of the station with the updates, Yes, I mean,
- 15:21Speaker 1: do you remember when I first started they were every
- 15:22Speaker 1: fifteen minutes? Do you remember that they the updates were
- 15:26Speaker 1: every fifteen minutes, so four times an how they quickly
- 15:29Speaker 1: realized they had no time for programming then, but the
- 15:33Speaker 1: updates were, to me something special. And I'm going to
- 15:37Speaker 1: put John Minco in there because he was there probably
- 15:41Speaker 1: the longest and he was such a pro just a
- 15:46Speaker 1: wonderful man and wonderful to be around every day. So
- 15:49Speaker 1: I'm going to put John Minco in there because of
- 15:51Speaker 1: what how important the updates were.
- 15:53Speaker 3: The manke Man.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I'm believe I have a top five Update anchor list
- 15:57Speaker 2: of all time and Miko's number one.
- 15:58Speaker 3: How about that? Mike Breen?
- 16:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean so you agree with me on
- 16:03Speaker 1: this one.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Mako does not get the credit. Well, he just got
- 16:07Speaker 2: the credit that he deserves. He got it from Mike Breed.
- 16:09Speaker 1: What a great spot to go to one of my
- 16:12Speaker 1: favorite people that I've ever worked with.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Yes, no question. Are you into the Western Conference Finals?
- 16:17Speaker 3: How could you not be?
- 16:18Speaker 2: What a great, great matchup between the Spurs and ok see, huh.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I can't wait. I'm shutting my phone off at eight thirty. Yes,
- 16:27Speaker 1: it's going to be. It's gonna be amazing because again,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you know, people forget John Last year, okay see, in
- 16:35Speaker 1: the second round, they needed seven games to get past Denver.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Now they blew them out in the seventh game, but
- 16:41Speaker 1: Denver was banged up. Then they needed seven games to
- 16:44Speaker 1: get past Indiana and Halliburton was banged up. So it
- 16:47Speaker 1: wasn't this free ride where they just coasted. They also
- 16:50Speaker 1: lost a game one of the games to Minnesota. They
- 16:53Speaker 1: lost a game by forty two last year in the
- 16:56Speaker 1: playoffs when they won the title, So it wasn't this
- 16:59Speaker 1: move sailing? Now they face this this young juggernaut team
- 17:03Speaker 1: that has got this spectacular combination of young stars and
- 17:09Speaker 1: good veterans. I think this has a chance to be
- 17:12Speaker 1: an all time classic conference final.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Yes, Mike, when you watch a game casually, does anybody
- 17:17Speaker 4: you're watching the game ever ask you to mute the
- 17:19Speaker 4: game and call it yourself from like the couch for
- 17:23Speaker 4: the family?
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yea, No, that would have been. First off, my family
- 17:31Speaker 1: would That's the last thing they would want. I watched
- 17:34Speaker 1: the games with my kids and my wife all the time.
- 17:36Speaker 1: That's the last thing they want. They do get it,
- 17:40Speaker 1: They do get a kick out of I mean, it's
- 17:42Speaker 1: this is you know, it's an occupational hazard. So I
- 17:46Speaker 1: watch and I certainly listen for how the announcers handle things,
- 17:49Speaker 1: just like producers and directors, directors who watch a game
- 17:53Speaker 1: and they're like, I don't like that shot. Now he
- 17:56Speaker 1: should have gone to that shot. It's it's amazing how
- 17:58Speaker 1: you watch it from that where you the job that
- 18:02Speaker 1: you do. You're kind of all right how they handling this,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and and I think, like, I can't wait to watch
- 18:08Speaker 1: my Turriico tonight. Mike Turrico is just he's extraordinary. He's
- 18:12Speaker 1: become one of the all time greats. And it's gonna
- 18:16Speaker 1: be be a fun game to broadcast, I know, and
- 18:19Speaker 1: it has a chance, like I said, to be something special.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Taylor just turns you into some sort of piano bar.
- 18:26Speaker 2: But I will tell you this from a you know,
- 18:27Speaker 2: it's it's an additional revenue stream, not that you need
- 18:30Speaker 2: at Mike Breen, but I would I would pay top
- 18:32Speaker 2: dollar if you came to my living room, we turned
- 18:36Speaker 2: the sound down and you called the game just for
- 18:38Speaker 2: me and my family.
- 18:39Speaker 3: I would pay top dollar for it.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I would have, Well, what's what's your what's your top dollarar?
- 18:45Speaker 1: What's your version of top dollar?
- 18:47Speaker 2: You know, ten bucks pizza? Yeah, well, I'm wondering how
- 18:54Speaker 2: much it would take to get you to do it.
- 18:56Speaker 3: One hundred grand? What do you think?
- 18:57Speaker 1: Uh No, Well, you know I've done a couple of
- 19:01Speaker 1: times during these playoffs. I've actually I've watched the game
- 19:05Speaker 1: in the stands. Like there was the when Minnesota was
- 19:08Speaker 1: playing Denver. We were doing I think it was Game four,
- 19:12Speaker 1: and I got into town early because I was coming
- 19:14Speaker 1: from from Detroit, and I sat in the stands for
- 19:16Speaker 1: Game three of that series. At the at the Target Center,
- 19:21Speaker 1: and it was It was such a cool thing. I
- 19:24Speaker 1: love to do that every once in a while. It's
- 19:25Speaker 1: such a cool thing to see again, just to be
- 19:27Speaker 1: in the middle of the crowd and how they go
- 19:29Speaker 1: crazy and some of the things that they yell out
- 19:32Speaker 1: and nobody can hear the I'm certain the raft or
- 19:34Speaker 1: the player they're yelling at. I can't hear them, but
- 19:36Speaker 1: they don't care. They're still yelling out all these bizarre things.
- 19:40Speaker 1: It was wild. But no, I'm not I'm not going
- 19:43Speaker 1: to come to your house of Cola game, all right?
- 19:45Speaker 3: I mean one hundred grand for charity, how about that?
- 19:47Speaker 3: Soy what do you think?
- 19:49Speaker 1: Oh? All right, now we're talking.
- 19:51Speaker 2: All right, Mike, We'll get you out of here just
- 19:54Speaker 2: a second, Mike, Yeah, go ahead.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm just curious.
- 19:57Speaker 5: Does Mike Breen pay for those tickets?
- 20:01Speaker 1: You know what? Fortunately I did not have to, because
- 20:05Speaker 1: sometimes it's the team like an extra one I get to.
- 20:07Speaker 1: But another one I did. I was in town for
- 20:11Speaker 1: a Nick game, and I have season tickets for my
- 20:14Speaker 1: kids that I buy, so I sat in.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Those Mike Knicks fans have had some rough years that
- 20:21Speaker 4: have kind of led us to this but I think
- 20:23Speaker 4: the one consistent that we've had the past twenty five
- 20:25Speaker 4: twenty six years has been the duo of you and
- 20:28Speaker 4: wal Fraser the best. We're kind of spoiled as Knicks fans.
- 20:31Speaker 4: How good our duo is. What do you remember most
- 20:33Speaker 4: about when they paired you two together back in nineteen
- 20:36Speaker 4: ninety nine.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Well, first off, thank you, that's very kind of you.
- 20:41Speaker 1: One of the true blessings of not my career and
- 20:45Speaker 1: my life has been having the last thirty years with Clyde.
- 20:51Speaker 1: He was a guy that I, you know, obviously idolized
- 20:53Speaker 1: as a kid, and to have now this lifetime friendship
- 20:58Speaker 1: with him has been it's I couldn't think of a
- 21:01Speaker 1: better scenario. And when we first started working, I was
- 21:05Speaker 1: so nervous, and I had met him a couple of times,
- 21:08Speaker 1: but when I got the job to do the radio
- 21:10Speaker 1: with him, I couldn't believe my good fortune. But I
- 21:15Speaker 1: couldn't believe how shy Clyde was. You know, he has
- 21:18Speaker 1: this personas Clyde cool Clyde, and that's certainly true, but
- 21:22Speaker 1: he was introverted back in the day, and I said
- 21:26Speaker 1: to him right away. The first thing I said to
- 21:29Speaker 1: him was, hey, listen to Clid when we do the games.
- 21:31Speaker 1: You talk whenever you want. People want to hear what
- 21:33Speaker 1: you have to say. You're the one that has been
- 21:35Speaker 1: through it all. And he was so grateful for that,
- 21:40Speaker 1: and I think that's what kind of kicked it off.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You know, when you're playvoice and you work with different
- 21:45Speaker 1: analysts over time, sometimes it takes a while to get
- 21:48Speaker 1: some chemistry for I don't know why, but it just
- 21:50Speaker 1: clicked right away. And you know, he's taught me so
- 21:55Speaker 1: much about the game, obviously, but he's also taught me
- 21:59Speaker 1: about so much about growing up in Atlanta and his
- 22:03Speaker 1: experiences as in New Yorker when he first got here,
- 22:05Speaker 1: and his insecurities and losing confidence, and it's just it's
- 22:11Speaker 1: been it's been just a wonderful, beautiful friendship and an
- 22:15Speaker 1: educational one for me as well. Mike.
- 22:19Speaker 2: We appreciate the time during a very busy time for you.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Nick Calves Game one tomorrow night tonight, leave them alone.
- 22:24Speaker 2: He'll be watching the TV, his phone will be off,
- 22:27Speaker 2: he'll be watching Game one of the Western Conference Finals.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Tomorrow night.
- 22:30Speaker 2: He'll bring you Knicks Calves Game one. We appreciate the time,
- 22:34Speaker 2: and thank you so much. For doing this, and you've
- 22:37Speaker 2: turned into a great friend. Only a great friend would
- 22:39Speaker 2: call me John multiple times.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Thank you for doing that, my man, John. Thanks, Thanks, guys,
- 22:45Speaker 3: we appreciate it. Mike, enjoy the enjoy the conference finals.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Okay, but we'll talk soon
