- 0:34What is going on, everybody?
- 0:36It is lunchtime.
- 0:37Lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 0:38We are here again this week.
- 0:42Kicking it off strong.
- 0:45Dart throw time.
- 0:48I got a feeling.
- 0:51Oh, my gosh.
- 0:52It must have been gas.
- 0:53Because I didn't even come
- 0:54close to the dartboard.
- 0:58Dang, man.
- 0:59I'm going to have to patch some holes.
- 1:02I keep this stuff up.
- 1:05I've got to hit that
- 1:06bullseye at least one time.
- 1:08One time.
- 1:10I know I'm going to throw a second one.
- 1:12I just, I can't end like that.
- 1:15All right.
- 1:18One more time.
- 1:20Yeah.
- 1:20I got to give up today.
- 1:21There we go.
- 1:23All right.
- 1:24What's going up?
- 1:25What's going on?
- 1:26Lito, Holly.
- 1:29Good to see you guys in the chat.
- 1:31Um,
- 1:33Corey Leonard's in the chat.
- 1:39Let me start with this.
- 1:40So I come into work this
- 1:41morning and I am scheduled
- 1:45for an eight hour meeting,
- 1:48an eight hour meeting.
- 1:52And here, what it is,
- 1:53is I work in reemployment
- 1:55services where people are
- 1:58trying to find a new job.
- 2:01We try to help them with that,
- 2:02with interviewing skills,
- 2:03with things like that.
- 2:06I work on the systems that
- 2:08help them kind of track all
- 2:09of that stuff.
- 2:11Our unemployment system,
- 2:13also our unemployment
- 2:15office works with us.
- 2:17People get unemployed,
- 2:18they're looking to get re-employed.
- 2:20Unemployment is getting a
- 2:21whole new system.
- 2:24They have scheduled three
- 2:25eight-hour meetings today, tomorrow,
- 2:28and Wednesday to go over
- 2:30every piece of
- 2:31correspondence that's
- 2:32getting sent out of their
- 2:33new system for us to then
- 2:36make sure that they capture
- 2:39anything we need to be,
- 2:41that needs to be said to
- 2:41these people who have been
- 2:43laid off from their job and
- 2:45are collecting unemployment
- 2:46to help them find us to get reemployed.
- 2:51So basically what I do is,
- 2:54I have the meeting in an
- 2:55earbud on in one ear and I
- 2:59listen and I listen.
- 3:02And if anything comes up from my area,
- 3:04that's when I have to speak up.
- 3:06But the rest of the time,
- 3:08which so far four hours
- 3:09into this first eight hour meeting, uh,
- 3:12has been zero zip zilch.
- 3:17I already want to drive a
- 3:19nail through my forehead.
- 3:20I, uh,
- 3:25I am.
- 3:26So when we do systems enhancements, we,
- 3:29we do like a series of two
- 3:31hour meetings so that
- 3:33people can actually pay
- 3:34attention and be alert when
- 3:36stuff comes up.
- 3:39Um, this eight hour meeting stuff,
- 3:43things are going to get
- 3:43missed because nobody can
- 3:46pay attention when the
- 3:47attention isn't on them for eight hours.
- 3:52I mean, literally this morning,
- 3:54I have them in my right ear
- 3:57and Siobhan in my left ear.
- 4:02Because I just couldn't take it anymore.
- 4:09So that's my day.
- 4:11And I've got two more days
- 4:12of that coming up.
- 4:16but I think I'm going to
- 4:17take a little bit of me
- 4:18time either at the end of
- 4:20this week or to go into
- 4:22next week around the fourth
- 4:24of July holiday,
- 4:25just to give myself some
- 4:26extra time to get a few
- 4:27things done around the house.
- 4:30Um,
- 4:30I haven't taken any time off this year.
- 4:33Usually I'm like a different
- 4:34semifinal event.
- 4:35So I take a bunch of time off.
- 4:37I haven't taken anything off this year.
- 4:39Um, so,
- 4:43So, yeah.
- 4:45Jody says, that's all of us.
- 4:48One ear here, one ear there.
- 4:50Yeah.
- 4:50Generally, like I just play.
- 4:54Generally,
- 4:55I don't have work talking to me
- 4:56during the day.
- 4:57I'm doing work while I have
- 4:59other stuff in my ear,
- 5:00but I don't have somebody
- 5:02like a meeting going on.
- 5:04Usually when a meeting goes on,
- 5:05I shut off the other stuff
- 5:07and I pay attention in the meeting.
- 5:08But most of my meetings are
- 5:09thirty minutes or less.
- 5:11Eight hours is ridiculous.
- 5:15Ridiculous.
- 5:19So I'm going to go down
- 5:21through a series of things.
- 5:23Dave already put out his weekend review.
- 5:24It was live from Albany.
- 5:27He was on the floor of the arena.
- 5:30I think it's going to be a
- 5:31really cool place to have
- 5:32the CrossFit Games.
- 5:35but nothing earth shattering
- 5:36came out of his weekend review.
- 5:38Uh,
- 5:39he talked about Tia coming back and how
- 5:41happy he was for that.
- 5:43Um,
- 5:44and he talked about the crossover
- 5:45double unders.
- 5:46I thought the one
- 5:47interesting question from that was that,
- 5:50uh,
- 5:50the barbell spin asked if they were
- 5:51going to have to use the
- 5:52official rope of the CrossFit games.
- 5:55And Dave was not able to
- 5:56answer that at this time, as he said,
- 5:58it was to be determined still.
- 6:01Um,
- 6:04So that is interesting there.
- 6:07I'm still kind of amazed
- 6:09that they're in the games
- 6:10because I know I've heard
- 6:12Dave say he didn't like
- 6:13them when Boz put them in a
- 6:15few years ago.
- 6:17So it's going to be
- 6:18interesting to see how
- 6:19they're going to be used.
- 6:21And Dave did kind of go into that.
- 6:23Just because they know
- 6:24they're coming doesn't mean
- 6:25they know how they're going to be used.
- 6:29So I don't know how you make
- 6:31that a little bit different.
- 6:35Anyway, there's that.
- 6:42Has to be a sponsor obligation,
- 6:43in my opinion.
- 6:45Sure,
- 6:45the jump rope has to be a sponsor
- 6:47obligation,
- 6:49but the type of jump roping
- 6:53does not have to be a sponsor obligation,
- 6:56in my guess.
- 6:58Um, I, again,
- 6:59I used to be really close
- 7:00with Dave Newman.
- 7:01He was a sponsor of the show
- 7:02for a couple years early on in our, um,
- 7:06and,
- 7:06and we used to have him on every
- 7:08quarter and he said that he
- 7:10would have conversations
- 7:12with Dave and people at CrossFit,
- 7:14but he didn't have the
- 7:16control to say what was going to be done.
- 7:20Um, so I think that's,
- 7:22that's pretty interesting.
- 7:28um alito said that specific
- 7:32jump rope that was made for
- 7:34tricks triple unders
- 7:35crossovers okay I did not
- 7:37know that um so there we go
- 7:44and denise is wondering if
- 7:46they will have them all at
- 7:47the masters games
- 7:49Yeah, and again,
- 7:51Masters Games probably is
- 7:52going to have a completely
- 7:53different set of sponsors.
- 7:54Well, not completely different,
- 7:57but a good chunk of different sponsors.
- 7:59So it could be something
- 8:00different entirely with
- 8:02different sponsor obligations.
- 8:11Last night,
- 8:11we kind of kicked off the show
- 8:12talking about the road to the games.
- 8:14And the more and more I think about it,
- 8:18I think the road to the
- 8:18games are dead unless
- 8:21there's a big change to next season with,
- 8:25with the road to the games.
- 8:26And if they continue the road to the games,
- 8:27I think, I think they're dead.
- 8:30Yeah.
- 8:34the people that are doing
- 8:36them are not getting the
- 8:38stories we need to hype us
- 8:39up for the games,
- 8:41and that is what the road
- 8:42to the games were in the past.
- 8:45It was going in, learning about an athlete,
- 8:48and getting you excited to
- 8:49then root for that athlete
- 8:53As they get to the CrossFit Games.
- 8:56And how would that translate?
- 8:57And how would that affect
- 9:00their performance?
- 9:01How would they do at the Games?
- 9:03That created excitement that
- 9:05got us at the Games.
- 9:07In a year, we needed that more than ever.
- 9:10It came too late.
- 9:12And the people that are doing them are not,
- 9:16as Jody put,
- 9:18not getting the fans invested.
- 9:21There's just not enough
- 9:22content of storytelling in
- 9:25this latest version of Road
- 9:27to the Games to get me
- 9:29invested in anything.
- 9:37They should leave Road to
- 9:38the Games and instead hype
- 9:40the tier and WFP docs instead.
- 9:45yeah I think I think what I
- 9:47I have not watched a lot of
- 9:48the tier ones I've watched
- 9:50every single one of the wfp
- 9:52ones and I've watched all
- 9:53of the hiller ones I think
- 9:55killer's done a nice job
- 9:56with storytelling I think
- 9:58wfp is hit or miss on the storytelling um
- 10:04I did not like the last WFP at all either,
- 10:08where they did Pat Felner
- 10:09and Daniel Brandon at tour stop one.
- 10:12I don't think I learned anything there.
- 10:14There was no storytelling there.
- 10:17And this last road to the
- 10:21games with the two Lucys.
- 10:23I said it last night.
- 10:24I adore Lucy Campbell.
- 10:26I think she is one of the
- 10:27biggest stories in the space right now.
- 10:30And to completely ignore
- 10:32that story and just show
- 10:35her working out and saying
- 10:36that one time she was a swimmer.
- 10:39She's a favorite to be a top
- 10:41ten athlete after taking
- 10:42two years off from a
- 10:44serious career-threatening wrist injury.
- 10:48And...
- 10:49The fact that they did not
- 10:51even touch on that to an
- 10:54extent that told me that story,
- 10:57they should be ashamed.
- 11:00They should just be ashamed.
- 11:01And I don't know much about
- 11:03Lucy McGonigal.
- 11:13Other than...
- 11:16She's a young athlete in the
- 11:17sport that I want to know more about,
- 11:19and I didn't get to learn anything.
- 11:24That was really, really bad.
- 11:27Sorry.
- 11:30That means less money they
- 11:31have to spend and just
- 11:32promote what's already
- 11:33really good and out there.
- 11:38Jody's actually more excited
- 11:40about the games,
- 11:41so she can meet all the
- 11:42people she's met in the chat.
- 11:46Yeah,
- 11:46that's one way to get people excited.
- 11:59Tears amazing.
- 12:00They go all the way back to
- 12:01them being kids and family
- 12:03is also chipping in.
- 12:04Abby Domitz was amazing.
- 12:05Jeff too.
- 12:07I know I've seen a couple.
- 12:08I don't,
- 12:10I'll have to go back and watch for sure.
- 12:14And I will give them a review as well.
- 12:20Train to Live says,
- 12:22I wish the road to the games were longer.
- 12:24The storylines are way too short.
- 12:30I don't want them to be
- 12:30longer if they're not going
- 12:32to change the format.
- 12:34If they change the format, then okay,
- 12:36let's give them a little more time.
- 12:39little more time to develop
- 12:40the story but they're not
- 12:41even starting the
- 12:42development of the story
- 12:43for me to get excited to
- 12:45want it to be longer uh
- 12:51denise scott how are your
- 12:52allergies today denise the
- 12:55my allergies are just up
- 12:56and down right now one
- 12:58minute I'm feeling pretty
- 12:59good the next minute it
- 13:01just comes over me like a
- 13:02tidal wave uh I don't know
- 13:06it's it's just been
- 13:09It's been a rough couple of weeks.
- 13:11I had a really good weekend
- 13:12where rain washed away a lot of stuff.
- 13:16I got a lot of yard work done.
- 13:17I got a lot of things accomplished.
- 13:20And then Sunday night just
- 13:22got hit with it right after
- 13:24the show last night,
- 13:25went upstairs and got hit
- 13:26with just a tidal wave of allergies.
- 13:30It's been awful.
- 13:33Um, so yeah,
- 13:36I'll check out the tier stuff.
- 13:37I'll give a couple of reviews on that.
- 13:39Um, if you didn't hear last night,
- 13:41my review of the Lucy's
- 13:43road to the games is my
- 13:44lowest grade so far this year.
- 13:46Uh, and that is a D I give it a D, um,
- 13:51probably should have given it an F,
- 13:53but I gave it a D and again,
- 13:55that's the lowest grade
- 13:57I've given out this year.
- 14:01Um,
- 14:04Last night,
- 14:04I also talked about MedFix and
- 14:06my confusion with MedFix.
- 14:08I've had Pete Shaw on trying
- 14:10to explain to me.
- 14:12Hiller was in the chat last
- 14:13night trying to explain to
- 14:14me his thoughts and his views.
- 14:17And I've really been,
- 14:20because I did research
- 14:21trying to interview Pete
- 14:23and trying to understand
- 14:24what they are trying to
- 14:25accomplish and where it's coming from,
- 14:29I've been really confused about it.
- 14:33then leave it to my old
- 14:34friend athena perez uh who
- 14:38I love and adore to death
- 14:40um she I read her post on
- 14:45metfix and all of a sudden
- 14:47the clarity was there and I
- 14:50did take a couple notes of
- 14:52reading her thing and and I
- 14:53wanted to share kind of
- 14:54where it's put me um
- 15:00The way Athena put it was that early on,
- 15:04CrossFit created this plan
- 15:07to get you back to metabolic health.
- 15:10And a lot of that had to do
- 15:11with body movement.
- 15:13But it also had a very
- 15:14simple fitness in a hundred words.
- 15:17It starts with nutrition.
- 15:20Eat nuts and seeds.
- 15:23little fruit, no sugar, no starch,
- 15:25whatever, that whole bit.
- 15:27I don't know it by off the top of my head,
- 15:28but I, but very simple.
- 15:32And when I started CrossFit,
- 15:33I weighed over five hundred pounds.
- 15:35I lost two hundred and fifty pounds.
- 15:37I lost that just by the
- 15:39simple fact of only eating
- 15:43when I was hungry and having, um,
- 15:50and only having healthy
- 15:52foods available to me.
- 15:54My thought was,
- 15:55if I'm putting something in the body,
- 15:57is that thing that I'm
- 15:58putting in there helping me
- 15:59or hurting me?
- 16:01And that's how I approached my nutrition.
- 16:04That simply, and it worked.
- 16:10The big red flag for me that
- 16:12came out of my Pete Shaw interview is,
- 16:15I asked him,
- 16:17I said to him,
- 16:19a lot of people don't
- 16:20understand what you're
- 16:21saying because you're using
- 16:23very scientific terms and
- 16:25you're doing things in a
- 16:26way that are not easy to understand.
- 16:30And his response was,
- 16:33they want to do it in a way
- 16:34to force people to go look
- 16:35into it more themselves.
- 16:40That is a red flag to me.
- 16:43You are trying to cure the
- 16:44world's most vexing problem,
- 16:46the sixty percent obesity
- 16:48rate in this country,
- 16:50and I'm sure it's spreading worldwide.
- 16:53Why are you trying to make
- 16:55it complicated for people
- 16:56to take another step in?
- 16:59And the way Athena looked at it was,
- 17:01it's like the door is half open.
- 17:05And it's almost like it's a
- 17:07cool kids club.
- 17:08Can you come in or are you
- 17:10not allowed to come in?
- 17:14And I like that analogy of
- 17:16the whole thing is if
- 17:18you're making it so
- 17:19scientific that only cool
- 17:22kids can understand it and come in,
- 17:24then you're not fixing the problem.
- 17:28You're not putting it in a
- 17:29way that makes people
- 17:31understand and can actually
- 17:32put it into practice.
- 17:38I'm actually,
- 17:39I was embarrassed that I
- 17:41didn't see this for myself.
- 17:42As someone who started
- 17:43CrossFit at five hundred pounds,
- 17:45I was welcomed in with open arms.
- 17:49And I was loved on by the coaches,
- 17:52by the members of that gym,
- 17:55and I was helped to get
- 17:56through that process.
- 17:58And they made it simple.
- 18:01And the nutrition in CrossFit,
- 18:03even though at the L-one,
- 18:04it's only a small piece,
- 18:06at the affiliate level,
- 18:07it's always there.
- 18:09It's always present and it's
- 18:11always there for you.
- 18:16And that's the piece that I
- 18:18actually mentioned to Pete
- 18:19Shaw in that interview.
- 18:23And he kind of tried to counter
- 18:26Counter that with it,
- 18:27he's been in gyms where
- 18:28donuts are on the counter
- 18:29or gummy bears are on the counter.
- 18:32And I've never seen that in
- 18:33any gym that I've been a part of.
- 18:36And I've been in a gym that
- 18:37was just a bunch of average
- 18:39Joes with an average age of
- 18:41forty five to fifty.
- 18:43And I've also been in a gym
- 18:44with Christy Aramo
- 18:45O'Connell and her husband
- 18:47who are both freakishly fit
- 18:50and her mother who's freakishly fit.
- 18:53And that stuff was never on
- 18:54the counters at that gym either.
- 18:57And they preached good nutrition habits.
- 19:03So.
- 19:04I'm embarrassed that I
- 19:05missed out on really diving
- 19:08into that aspect of it.
- 19:12And she also pointed out
- 19:13that the people selling
- 19:15this new nutrition are not
- 19:17people who came up through
- 19:20the CrossFit way,
- 19:22who never lifted a barbell,
- 19:24who never did those CrossFit workouts,
- 19:26and they're up at a
- 19:27whiteboard trying to
- 19:28explain to you the science of it all.
- 19:30And that is a red flag for her.
- 19:32And that makes a ton of sense to me.
- 19:36And then the overarching
- 19:37thing in her article,
- 19:39which was also in Hiller's stuff,
- 19:43was that there's nothing different.
- 19:46That in Greg's own words,
- 19:48nothing has changed in twenty years.
- 19:51And I think that where I was
- 19:54getting hung up is it does
- 19:55make sense that if you're
- 19:56going to go deeper into a
- 19:59nutrition subject,
- 20:01it's a great extension to
- 20:02what already exists.
- 20:05But because they're trying
- 20:06to create their own affiliates,
- 20:07they're not trying to be an
- 20:09extension of something that
- 20:10already exists.
- 20:11They are trying to compete
- 20:12with what already exists
- 20:14and doing it in a different
- 20:15way and won't admit that fact.
- 20:20That's the part that sends
- 20:22this down a bad path.
- 20:24By creating their own affiliate system,
- 20:27it's sending it in a
- 20:28direction of competition as
- 20:30opposed to a partnership.
- 20:35so I've known athena for
- 20:39five years now athena was a
- 20:43major part of my life for a
- 20:45good couple years
- 20:48We used to talk every Friday afternoon,
- 20:50catch up on things, brainstorm ideas.
- 20:54She is an amazing person.
- 20:56And I missed her article
- 20:58because I don't read the
- 21:00morning chalk up anymore.
- 21:01I have too much PTSD from
- 21:03being there and being a
- 21:05part of that group and not
- 21:06enjoying my time there.
- 21:08And then I found she has a
- 21:10website where she puts all
- 21:11of her writings there in
- 21:13addition to where they
- 21:14appear in other things.
- 21:15And so I will make sure that
- 21:18I am up to date on her
- 21:20writings on her website
- 21:23because it really did send
- 21:25one big piece of clarity to
- 21:28me over this whole thing.
- 21:33And it's true, and I truly believe this,
- 21:36and I said this to Pete Shaw,
- 21:38that nutrition is at the affiliate level.
- 21:41That is where I learned
- 21:41nutrition when I came into CrossFit.
- 21:44It was not at my L-one.
- 21:46I learned it from my coach.
- 21:49I learned it from my members.
- 21:51That's where I learned nutrition.
- 21:58I've missed all the comments,
- 22:00so I am going to...
- 22:06I'm trained to live.
- 22:06I like Carolyn's take on it,
- 22:08that it should just be a course.
- 22:12And CrossFit has added a
- 22:13nutrition course that's a
- 22:15one-day supplement to what
- 22:17already exists.
- 22:25Doug Reed,
- 22:25the CrossFit pyramid is the most
- 22:27profound model for thinking
- 22:28about fitness priorities and progression.
- 22:30It's simple and it makes sense.
- 22:41Alito,
- 22:41I don't think the nutrition side is
- 22:42present in any affiliate.
- 22:44A lot of gyms have literally
- 22:45got cafes that sell lots of baked goods,
- 22:48etc.
- 22:49That is not my experience.
- 22:51I have done drop-ins all over the country.
- 22:54My job used to have me
- 22:55travel and I've been doing
- 22:56CrossFit since two thousand eleven.
- 22:58I used to drop in everywhere
- 23:00that I traveled to for work.
- 23:02I have never been in a gym
- 23:04where baked goods were an option,
- 23:06where gummy bears were on the counter.
- 23:08Never, ever, never.
- 23:10I'm sorry that you've had a
- 23:11different experience
- 23:13because I've not had that
- 23:14experience at all.
- 23:23Doug Reed at Lido, our gym,
- 23:24does talk about the
- 23:25importance of nutrition.
- 23:27I choose to ignore it.
- 23:29And that is your prerogative.
- 23:30You look like Captain America,
- 23:31so you can choose that.
- 23:37Corey Leonard,
- 23:37I'm so glad my box is old school.
- 23:39We have nutrition seminars
- 23:40at least once a year.
- 23:42Still write the workout name
- 23:43scores on an actual
- 23:44whiteboard and believe in
- 23:46making people better.
- 23:49And Train to Live says, same.
- 23:54uh lito I think most do we
- 23:56try to do an eighty twenty
- 23:57approach because we're
- 23:58trying to be more realistic
- 24:05and then doug says that he
- 24:06ignores it so corey leonard
- 24:07can feel better about
- 24:08himself we're all trying to
- 24:10help corey out I'll try now
- 24:13that's the main goal of everything um
- 24:20But yeah,
- 24:21if you do not subscribe to
- 24:22Athena's email list,
- 24:24I highly recommend it.
- 24:26And if you did not read her
- 24:28article on what is MedFix, it is a great,
- 24:31great read.
- 24:32And I think it really
- 24:33simplifies everything that's going on.
- 24:37I've been to, like I said,
- 24:39I've been a member of two
- 24:40different affiliates here in Columbus.
- 24:42Both of them have put a very
- 24:43big emphasis on nutrition.
- 24:46And the first gym I belonged
- 24:48to even hired on a
- 24:51full-time nutrition coach.
- 24:53And you could meet with them
- 24:55free of charge with your
- 24:56membership to get a plan in
- 24:58place from them.
- 25:01so I think that there are
- 25:05affiliates out there doing
- 25:06it the right way and I'm so
- 25:08glad that those were the
- 25:09ones that I found and um
- 25:14and that got me on the
- 25:15right path and uh stuck on
- 25:21these nuts says eat nuts
- 25:23yep and seeds and seeds as well
- 25:30All right.
- 25:30My last big take for the day is.
- 25:40If you weren't with us Friday,
- 25:43Judy Reed says justice for
- 25:45Corey and Corey says respectfully, Judy,
- 25:48they can get bent.
- 25:49Yeah.
- 25:51Yeah.
- 25:54Yeah.
- 25:56uh so I'm assuming corey's
- 25:58not heard any new news over
- 26:00the weekend or he has
- 26:03blocked them permanently I
- 26:05don't know my last thing is
- 26:08last night um we were doing
- 26:11some factor fiction and we
- 26:13were picking like our top
- 26:14five for the games and um
- 26:19one of the factor fictions
- 26:20were that there are no less than eight
- 26:24men who have an opportunity
- 26:25to win the CrossFit games.
- 26:28And Carolyn and I each kind
- 26:29of picked our eight that,
- 26:32that could Carolyn thought
- 26:34eight was too many.
- 26:34She really wanted it seven or six.
- 26:37Um, I was in,
- 26:38I am in the belief that there
- 26:40are eight people that can
- 26:43win the CrossFit games in the chat was,
- 26:48uh,
- 26:50Kenneth Galap,
- 26:51who is the biggest Colton
- 26:52Mertens fan I know of,
- 26:54and he kept putting Colton in there,
- 26:56and I said,
- 26:57there's no way that Colton can
- 26:58win the CrossFit Games.
- 27:01So I want to clarify.
- 27:02I'm going to reframe it today.
- 27:06If Colton Mertens wins the CrossFit Games,
- 27:10it will be a greater feat
- 27:13than Rich and Matt's streak of wins.
- 27:19when I say that I say it
- 27:21with love I have I have
- 27:25known colton since well
- 27:29before he made his first
- 27:30games we were the first
- 27:32podcast he ever came on I
- 27:33have hung out with him at
- 27:34events I've hung out with
- 27:36him and ali together they
- 27:38are amazing people and he
- 27:40has overcome so many hurdles what
- 27:45My view of that man is that years ago,
- 27:49they said he couldn't make the games.
- 27:51He made the games.
- 27:52Years ago,
- 27:53they said he couldn't do well at
- 27:55the games.
- 27:56His highest finish at the
- 27:57games to this date has been eighteenth.
- 28:01Eighteenth.
- 28:03That is a big jump from
- 28:05eighteenth to winning.
- 28:10Because of his height and
- 28:12because of the tasks that
- 28:13will be given to him over a
- 28:16long weekend to overcome
- 28:18each one of those tasks,
- 28:20he has to exert extra energy to do so.
- 28:23And he has built his fitness
- 28:24up so much that he's able
- 28:27to do that many of the times.
- 28:32but it still takes extra
- 28:33energy in each one of those
- 28:35events to do so.
- 28:37At the CrossFit Games,
- 28:38because it's a longer event
- 28:40with nine or ten or eleven
- 28:44or fifteen events,
- 28:46that extra exertion of
- 28:48energy compounds greater at
- 28:51that event than it does at
- 28:53semifinal events or crash
- 28:57crucibles or NorCal Classics,
- 29:00all of those events.
- 29:03So if Colton would win the CrossFit Games,
- 29:06it would mean that he's
- 29:08exerting more effort at a
- 29:13higher rate and for a
- 29:14longer duration than every
- 29:16other athlete in the field.
- 29:20It's like winning the
- 29:21CrossFit Games with one arm
- 29:22tied behind your back.
- 29:26Do I think that he can get in the top ten?
- 29:29Do I think he can get in the top five?
- 29:31I do.
- 29:32I do think he could get in the top five.
- 29:35But I worry about him just
- 29:37like watching Christy
- 29:39Aramo-O'Connell top out at eighth place.
- 29:44At the CrossFit Games,
- 29:45she was a smaller athlete.
- 29:47For her to lift against the
- 29:49Tias and the Ariels and the Loras,
- 29:53she just could not compete
- 29:55in those lifting events.
- 29:56Every other fitness-related
- 29:58technical thing that she could do,
- 30:01she crushed.
- 30:02And she was right there with Tia.
- 30:05But those things where she couldn't,
- 30:08she just couldn't make up enough for.
- 30:11to make a difference,
- 30:12to get to the top five, the top three.
- 30:17When Kristen Holta podiumed,
- 30:19that was an amazing accomplishment.
- 30:22When these smaller athletes
- 30:24can do something to that
- 30:26and do something like that,
- 30:28it is such a major
- 30:29accomplishment because they
- 30:31are overcoming –
- 30:34just the size differential
- 30:36with these other athletes
- 30:37in addition to taking on
- 30:39the event itself and everybody else.
- 30:46So do I want Colton to win the games?
- 30:51I want Colton to win the games.
- 30:55I think that would be the
- 30:57greatest story we have ever
- 30:58seen on the men's side of
- 31:01the CrossFit Games.
- 31:05But know,
- 31:07know that for him to do that is
- 31:10such a tremendous feat.
- 31:13It will take a perfect
- 31:16alignment of the stars for
- 31:17that to happen.
- 31:24He is the coolest trash
- 31:26talker in the game.
- 31:28He is amazing at what he does.
- 31:32He is so smart.
- 31:34Like I've had it.
- 31:36And I, I talked about this last week,
- 31:37my lost interview with him
- 31:39with the morning chalk up
- 31:40and the way he analyzed why
- 31:42he got cut so early at the
- 31:44games that first year he
- 31:45made it as an individual
- 31:47was because his whole focus
- 31:49was about making it to the games.
- 31:51And he did everything he
- 31:52could in those aspects to
- 31:54make it to the games.
- 31:56He had to ignore the aspects
- 31:59to do well at the games.
- 32:02those were all things he was
- 32:03thinking of hours after he
- 32:05was cut and he has made
- 32:10himself to be a threat in a
- 32:13lot of events single events
- 32:16at the games and he is
- 32:17going to be up there in the
- 32:19top five in a lot of those
- 32:20but there are going to be
- 32:21some where he's going to
- 32:22have to really push to an
- 32:24extreme level or be behind
- 32:27everybody else and make up that ground
- 32:30And it's just harder now.
- 32:36So, do I want Colton to win the games?
- 32:40I want him to win the games so bad.
- 32:43Do I think he can win the games?
- 32:45I don't think he can.
- 32:47But I do think he can be top five.
- 32:49And I do think if, just like Kristen Holta,
- 32:53if the stars align in a year,
- 32:55he could be podium finisher.
- 32:58But I don't think,
- 32:59with everything he has to overcome,
- 33:01that a game's win is in his sights.
- 33:10Corey Leonard,
- 33:11if anyone can win with one
- 33:12hand tied behind their back,
- 33:14it's the Iron Hog.
- 33:17Lito says amen to that.
- 33:26Um...
- 33:31Jody says, it'd be so cool.
- 33:33Kenneth, the biggest Ironhawk supporter,
- 33:36is right there.
- 33:37There's the Colton Train.
- 33:53Backed on the Metfix.
- 33:54Lito says,
- 33:55Metfix lost me when they started
- 33:57saying that Fruits is bad
- 33:58because it has fructose.
- 34:02Fruit was made by God.
- 34:03God is good.
- 34:04Fruit is good.
- 34:10And Lita says,
- 34:10just can't get on board with
- 34:11no or even little fruit, Corey.
- 34:14Yeah, I love fruit.
- 34:21I am a huge,
- 34:22I love pineapple and cherries and grapes.
- 34:28And I'll even like concede
- 34:29to some strawberries.
- 34:30I used to hate strawberries,
- 34:32but now I kind of like them.
- 34:35Strawberries and blueberries.
- 34:37I love blackberries.
- 34:38If blackberries didn't have
- 34:41seeds that got stuck in my
- 34:42teeth all the time,
- 34:43I would eat the hell out of
- 34:44some blackberries.
- 34:56So.
- 34:59Tristan Patrick in the house.
- 35:01Medfix is CrossFit nutrition
- 35:02to make money.
- 35:06Yeah.
- 35:07I think, again,
- 35:08I think that Athena's
- 35:10article on her view is what
- 35:15I needed to just clear it up.
- 35:18And now it's clear.
- 35:20And now it's clear.
- 35:22They are trying to compete with CrossFit.
- 35:25I just wish...
- 35:29I just wish Greg would say
- 35:33his true feelings about
- 35:35what it is and say, like,
- 35:39I believe in the broken science.
- 35:41That is where I'm at.
- 35:42That is what my passion is,
- 35:47to fight against the evils
- 35:49that are out there in the
- 35:51world trying to give bad science.
- 35:55That's what his passion is.
- 35:58I don't think he wants to
- 35:59get in the nitty gritty of all this.
- 36:01And I wish he'd just say it and say that,
- 36:05Hey, these are the people running it.
- 36:06This is what they're doing.
- 36:08Um, and I'm over here doing my own thing,
- 36:12fighting the good fight
- 36:13against the evils of the
- 36:14world and the sugar
- 36:15industry and the sodas and
- 36:17all that kind of stuff.
- 36:21Uh, Peter says, I met fixes,
- 36:27It really is.
- 36:29They had two ways to go about it.
- 36:31Either compete with CrossFit,
- 36:32which I think is the route they're going,
- 36:34even though they're saying they're not.
- 36:35And then the other route was
- 36:36to be an extension of CrossFit.
- 36:40And they went well beyond that.
- 36:45Clock says,
- 36:45I juice blackberries and beets.
- 36:49I'm all with you on the
- 36:51juice blackberries.
- 36:53The beets, man.
- 36:56So here's a nutrition story for you.
- 36:58When I was in high school,
- 36:59I played football in the
- 37:00fall and then I swam in the winter.
- 37:04At football,
- 37:04I played right tackle my
- 37:07junior and senior year.
- 37:11And I would play at two
- 37:12hundred and ten pounds.
- 37:15To swim and be at my best,
- 37:19I had to be at one seventy five,
- 37:21one eighty.
- 37:22So I would try to lose
- 37:23weight as quickly as I
- 37:24could because I had about
- 37:25two weeks between football
- 37:28and swim practice to get
- 37:30into shape for the other.
- 37:34And then the first two weeks
- 37:36in the water were just hell every year.
- 37:39Hell.
- 37:39Hell.
- 37:41So I did the Cleveland
- 37:43Clinic diet back then.
- 37:45And it had like, it was so prescribed,
- 37:48like for breakfast on Monday,
- 37:49you'll eat this.
- 37:50For lunch on Monday, you'll eat this.
- 37:53For supper, you'll eat this,
- 37:54and this is your snack.
- 37:56And it would do that for
- 37:57every day of the week.
- 37:58And it changed every meal.
- 38:01But they put beets in so
- 38:04many of those meals, like,
- 38:05and I had to eat so many
- 38:06beets during that time
- 38:09If someone put a beet in
- 38:10front of me right now,
- 38:11I think I would vomit to this day.
- 38:13And that was thirty years ago.
- 38:16I can... Beets just... I'm done.
- 38:21They were fine for the first
- 38:23few weeks of doing that,
- 38:25and then couldn't handle them ever again.
- 38:31Even when I see pickled eggs
- 38:33in the beet juice,
- 38:35my stomach gives a little...
- 38:45Corey says,
- 38:45Tristan is my favorite coach
- 38:46that doesn't coach me.
- 38:47There you go.
- 38:50Tristan's a dude, man.
- 38:52Tristan is the dude.
- 38:58So, yeah.
- 38:59So that's my beat story and
- 39:01why I do not like beats and
- 39:04can't eat them to this day.
- 39:09I know a lot of people have
- 39:10said beats to me in this chat,
- 39:12and every time I'm holding
- 39:15back the vomit when I hear that.
- 39:19Oh, so bad.
- 39:23So bad.
- 39:26But anyway.
- 39:29Well, guys,
- 39:29I think the only other thing I had was...
- 39:34I guess the morning chalk up
- 39:36is saying that Kale
- 39:37Lehman's telling his side of the story.
- 39:39I didn't even go in to read the article.
- 39:41I saw Hiller's response that
- 39:43it was a joke.
- 39:48Has anybody read the article?
- 39:50Was it anything earth
- 39:51shattering in that article?
- 39:52I don't know.
- 39:54Again, I have very...
- 40:03Little respect for the
- 40:04morning chalk up after I work there.
- 40:11And so I don't really dive
- 40:14into the articles.
- 40:15And a lot of times in the past,
- 40:17I see a headline that I
- 40:20want to read more of and I
- 40:21would go in and then it was
- 40:23on their paywall.
- 40:24I was like, ugh.
- 40:25And that seemed to be the
- 40:27only... The only...
- 40:31Times I wanted to read
- 40:32articles is when they hid
- 40:33them behind the paywall.
- 40:39Train to Live says, don't waste my time.
- 40:47Corey says,
- 40:48apparently he was all tuckered
- 40:49out after that first run
- 40:51and it just ruined his weekend.
- 40:53And you're talking about the
- 40:54Mayhem classic.
- 40:58Alito,
- 40:58beets and Greek yogurt with a pinch
- 41:00of salt and garlic, chef's kiss.
- 41:03Oh, Alito.
- 41:12And I used to hate yogurt.
- 41:14Hate yogurt.
- 41:15I actually don't mind it now.
- 41:16I like...
- 41:21When I was traveling with Jamie,
- 41:25she would make us like
- 41:25yogurt parfaits to have in
- 41:28our backpacks to eat during
- 41:31competitions to get us through.
- 41:34And I love those.
- 41:36I've learned that you just
- 41:37have to get the right
- 41:37yogurt and not like the cheap stuff.
- 41:40And that works.
- 41:46Ariel is big on beets.
- 41:48Well, good for Ariel.
- 41:50I will cheer her from the
- 41:50sidelines as I always do.
- 41:54But I just will not eat another beat.
- 42:00Corey wants to know, Lito,
- 42:01is Greek yogurt just called
- 42:03yogurt where you are?
- 42:07I can't wait to meet Lito.
- 42:11She's going to be at the Masters Games.
- 42:14Excited to meet her.
- 42:17And she says, correct, Corey.
- 42:23um I did put in my full
- 42:26proposal for behind the
- 42:27scenes of the masters
- 42:28crossfit games we'll see
- 42:30what happens there um
- 42:32hopefully I've had enough
- 42:34goodwill with the guys and
- 42:36I did a good enough job
- 42:37with the one last year that
- 42:38they'll let me do it again
- 42:39this year um I I believe
- 42:43we're good to go but I just
- 42:45need to get the official
- 42:53I'd love to bring on Corey
- 42:55as one of the people
- 42:56interviewing behind the scenes,
- 42:58but I'm just afraid people
