- 0:15Speaker 2: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Start with a job and with a career. IVW Local
- 0:21Speaker 2: sixty eight. It's Leggy, Yeah, Yeah, yeah. On Altitude Sports
- 0:26Speaker 2: Radio ninety two five.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Jeff Jeff, Jeff's Jeff Legwald with us here Monday afternoon.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald's appearance, brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 0:39Speaker 1: of Electrical Workers IBW Local sixty eight. Start with a
- 0:43Speaker 1: job and with a career, Leggy. The Broncos overmatched yesterday
- 0:49Speaker 1: in Buffalo. They got Big BOYD big time out there.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yet they also did not play well and did not
- 0:56Speaker 1: give them a chance themselves a chance to stay in
- 1:00Speaker 1: that game. When you look back on that performance yesterday,
- 1:03Speaker 1: what was Denver's greatest failing.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Well, you know, Nate, I think they missed the window
- 1:10Speaker 4: where the pressure would have gone to the Bills. I
- 1:12Speaker 4: mean that game still, you know, ten seven and a half,
- 1:17Speaker 4: it's thirteen to seven deep into the third You've got
- 1:21Speaker 4: an opportunity there to really move the pressure to a
- 1:28Speaker 4: team that thinks it's going to the Super Bowl.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I mean when I drove into.
- 1:31Speaker 4: The stadium yesterday, the people who check your parking pass
- 1:37Speaker 4: were like, see you next week. I mean they were already,
- 1:40Speaker 4: you know, putting it down as a w And even
- 1:44Speaker 4: when the Broncos scored first, you know, they have the
- 1:47Speaker 4: celebration they do after the Bills score. You know, they've
- 1:50Speaker 4: done it forever since I covered the team in ninety four,
- 1:55Speaker 4: you know, but nobody sang along. It was like the
- 1:58Speaker 4: Broncos scored and immediately there was nerves and I think
- 2:03Speaker 4: they just missed the window right after halftime, you know,
- 2:06Speaker 4: again three and outs in the second half. You know,
- 2:10Speaker 4: they do nothing on offense, uh, and give their defense,
- 2:15Speaker 4: which was, you know, welcome to the Baltimore Ravens game plan.
- 2:20Speaker 4: The Bills obviously did their homework. They attacked the same
- 2:23Speaker 4: parts of the formation as the Ravens did. But that,
- 2:26Speaker 4: to me, that was the sin they mit. After the
- 2:28Speaker 4: fake punt, you know, they got a little momentum all
- 2:31Speaker 4: those things.
- 2:32Speaker 3: They missed that window right there, all.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Right, Jeff, It's Joseph Sean Payton, What do we make
- 2:41Speaker 5: of yesterday?
- 2:42Speaker 6: What do we make of what will be going on
- 2:45Speaker 6: going forward?
- 2:48Speaker 5: You know he's gonna you know, obviously Vance Goodfrieims can
- 2:50Speaker 5: interview for a couple of jobs, and probably I wouldn't
- 2:52Speaker 5: be surprised a few more requests come in now that
- 2:54Speaker 5: he's on the marketing can be talked to and there's
- 2:57Speaker 5: no more timeline restrictions for him. But where do you
- 2:59Speaker 5: think things in with him at these coaching interviews don't
- 3:01Speaker 5: work out his way, you know.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And you just got to judge it by what people say,
- 3:09Speaker 4: you know, And now you know, folks might be lying,
- 3:11Speaker 4: they might change their mind, they might you know, do
- 3:15Speaker 4: things later. But as of this moment, you know, I
- 3:18Speaker 4: think he would be here. But you know again, you know,
- 3:24Speaker 4: everybody I know who's who's worked for Sean Payton jokes
- 3:28Speaker 4: how many times they've been fired by Peyton during their
- 3:31Speaker 4: time with him. So it's it's gonna be a bumpy
- 3:34Speaker 4: ride if you're here. But you know again, it's it's
- 3:38Speaker 4: you know, I know he'd like to be a head coach. Ah,
- 3:43Speaker 4: it's difficult to be in a position with a playoff
- 3:45Speaker 4: team that gets you interviews. I mean, there's a lot
- 3:48Speaker 4: here for him too, you know, if head coaching doesn't
- 3:53Speaker 4: work out. But you know, anytime you get beat like yesterday,
- 3:56Speaker 4: But I'm not sure you could just say the offense
- 3:59Speaker 4: was awesome them and the defense lost in the game,
- 4:01Speaker 4: that type of thing. But you know, again I in house,
- 4:06Speaker 4: I don't hear of you know enough to move on
- 4:11Speaker 4: from him.
- 4:12Speaker 3: But again we'll see people change their minds.
- 4:15Speaker 4: These ends of the season meetings often you know, do
- 4:19Speaker 4: things in a lot of directions. And you know, nobody
- 4:24Speaker 4: in charge was happy about yesterday's result because you know,
- 4:28Speaker 4: again you want to know how far they are away
- 4:31Speaker 4: from the elite. Well, now you have a good measuring
- 4:34Speaker 4: stick basically from the season Ravens, Chiefs with Mahomes in
- 4:40Speaker 4: the lineup, Burrow, I mean, everybody elite sort of they played,
- 4:46Speaker 4: they did not be.
- 4:47Speaker 3: So that's where they are.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Owen six against Alan Lamar, Mahomes, Burrow and Herbert
- 4:54Speaker 1: this season, and they're going to look back on that
- 4:57Speaker 1: and maybe that's a sober reminder of how far they
- 4:59Speaker 1: had to Now, Leggy, I guess this is kind of
- 5:02Speaker 1: my confusion and all of it is like performance wise, obviously,
- 5:07Speaker 1: Vance Joseph wouldn't go anywhere. But does Sean Payton want
- 5:11Speaker 1: vance Joseph back in that role next year? Dennis Allen
- 5:14Speaker 1: is available, He's got Jim Leonard on his staff who
- 5:16Speaker 1: he really likes. Is it possible Sean could go hunting
- 5:20Speaker 1: for somebody that's sort of one of his guys, so
- 5:23Speaker 1: to speak.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Well, you know, like I say, anything can happen, and
- 5:28Speaker 4: he's end of the season meetings. I mean after twenty fourteen,
- 5:32Speaker 4: John Fox did not walk into that meeting with John
- 5:35Speaker 4: Elway thinking he was getting fired. He was walking in
- 5:40Speaker 4: thinking they were going to talk about staff changes and
- 5:43Speaker 4: he would be allowed to give his opinion, and he
- 5:45Speaker 4: walked out no longer the head coach of the Broncos.
- 5:48Speaker 4: So you know, I've been doing it long enough to
- 5:52Speaker 4: never say never on anything, But I believe this is
- 5:55Speaker 4: the highest ranked defense Sean Payton's ever had in his
- 5:59Speaker 4: entire ten.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, I just you know, again, I don't
- 6:06Speaker 3: know how.
- 6:06Speaker 4: You could look at yesterday and say, Okay, that's the
- 6:09Speaker 4: defense's fault. I mean, it was a thirteen to seven
- 6:13Speaker 4: game with three minutes to go in the third quarter,
- 6:17Speaker 4: you know, until they make the back of the end
- 6:19Speaker 4: zone touchdown, which seemed to send the walls cascading down
- 6:24Speaker 4: after that. But you know, again, I never say never,
- 6:29Speaker 4: but I don't think personally it would be a very
- 6:32Speaker 4: wise move because you know, you guys know my feeling
- 6:35Speaker 4: on firing people unless you have a better alternative already
- 6:41Speaker 4: in mind and talk to I'm not sure you make
- 6:44Speaker 4: a move that includes owners with head coaches.
- 6:48Speaker 6: Yeah, we're not suggesting they should. Jeff, just you know
- 6:52Speaker 6: I didn't.
- 6:53Speaker 5: That's never stopped anybody I'd ever seen on the sideline.
- 6:59Speaker 5: But nonetheless, we finally saw out the open a little
- 7:03Speaker 5: of the shared frustration with each other.
- 7:05Speaker 6: I'd say, that's all.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Well, that doesn't shock me.
- 7:08Speaker 4: With Sean Payton, again, I've had guys he's worked.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I know one guy who's worked with.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Him I've known for a long time, said Sean Payton
- 7:17Speaker 4: has fired him fourteen times when he was on his staff.
- 7:20Speaker 4: So I mean it's, you know, the next day he's like,
- 7:24Speaker 4: you know, let's get to work. But he's he's hot blooded.
- 7:29Speaker 4: He's gonna scream at you. If you're a player or
- 7:32Speaker 4: an assistant coach. It's gonna happen. It will happen. People
- 7:36Speaker 4: will see it. I mean, it's just a given if you're.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Gonna work for or play for Sean Payton.
- 7:42Speaker 4: So if it goes beyond that, it would surprise me.
- 7:46Speaker 3: But again I never say never in this.
- 7:50Speaker 6: All right, real quick? Who is we saw?
- 7:52Speaker 5: Adam Schefter tweeted out the list of free agents the
- 7:55Speaker 5: Broncos have. Who is the top free agent on the
- 7:58Speaker 5: list they must keep?
- 7:59Speaker 6: In your opinion?
- 8:00Speaker 5: It's not a list of a bunch of sexy names,
- 8:02Speaker 5: but DJ Jones is on there, Cody Barton.
- 8:05Speaker 6: Is on there. Who's the guy they got to keep
- 8:07Speaker 6: in your mind?
- 8:09Speaker 3: Well?
- 8:09Speaker 4: You know, again, it's a lot of it depends on
- 8:13Speaker 4: how active you think you're going to be in free agency,
- 8:16Speaker 4: you know. And what's the plan with Benito? Is the
- 8:20Speaker 4: money going to Benito before the season starts?
- 8:23Speaker 3: You know?
- 8:24Speaker 4: Are you going to try to do that like you
- 8:26Speaker 4: did with certain like you did with minors? I think
- 8:29Speaker 4: those are the two biggest questions. And you know, they
- 8:32Speaker 4: they still got pretty hefty dead money next year from
- 8:36Speaker 4: the Russell you know, thirty two of it from Russell,
- 8:39Speaker 4: and I think at least ten or twelve more was
- 8:43Speaker 4: already on the books too, So they've got some dead.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Money they've got to deal with. But you know, in
- 8:49Speaker 3: terms of a lot of.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Snaps, I think DJ Jones, you know, had his best
- 8:55Speaker 4: year this year with them, so and that's probably a
- 9:00Speaker 4: guy you could afford to bring back. So Spartan really,
- 9:04Speaker 4: I mean, until he got here, most of his career
- 9:07Speaker 4: he's been a special teamer. He's had some sporadic starting duty,
- 9:12Speaker 4: you know, a season here, season there. But uh, I
- 9:15Speaker 4: think inside linebacker is going to be a position they
- 9:17Speaker 4: look to address because they were a little light inside
- 9:21Speaker 4: and the good running teams made them pay for it
- 9:25Speaker 4: all season.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Jeff Lakewell, brought to you by the International Brotherhood of
- 9:29Speaker 1: Electrical Workers IBEW Local sixty eight. Start with a job
- 9:32Speaker 1: end with the career. As long as we're looking ahead,
- 9:35Speaker 1: Leggie is the Broncos leading rusher in twenty twenty five
- 9:40Speaker 1: on the roster right now.
- 9:44Speaker 4: I go on a limb and say, I think the
- 9:47Speaker 4: odds are better it's a rookie than he's on the
- 9:49Speaker 4: roster right now. But you know, again, does it fall
- 9:53Speaker 4: your way, you know, we'll see. But I know that's
- 9:57Speaker 4: a position they'll be looking at. Tight end, running back,
- 10:00Speaker 4: impact that wide receivers. They're gonna be you know, yesterday
- 10:04Speaker 4: was clear. You know, some of it is. And yeah,
- 10:09Speaker 4: and I think some of it is. Maybe they were
- 10:11Speaker 4: a little head of schedule and we all got caught
- 10:13Speaker 4: up in you know, where they were. You know, they
- 10:16Speaker 4: roughed up the bad teams on their schedule and which
- 10:20Speaker 4: you know, hey, that's what you do. And they got
- 10:23Speaker 4: a playoff spot. But you know, we've said it on
- 10:26Speaker 4: this show. Look at the list of quarterbacks in the AFC.
- 10:29Speaker 4: You could make an argument that you're really playing for
- 10:33Speaker 4: two playoff spots in the AFC each year. Everybody else
- 10:36Speaker 4: who doesn't have one of those guys. I mean, a
- 10:40Speaker 4: guy like Burrow has to miss the playoffs for like
- 10:43Speaker 4: a surprise team to get in.
- 10:46Speaker 3: So that's that's where you're at in the AFC.
- 10:49Speaker 4: And they were they were talent deficient in their own
- 10:53Speaker 4: division and they are talent deficient in the AFC. And
- 10:56Speaker 4: that's you know, there's no quick fix to that. Just
- 11:00Speaker 4: got to get get more guys again.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Yeah, they weren't.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Ready for the They weren't ready for the moment either.
- 11:08Speaker 4: I mean, did the Bills drop passes? No, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 4: did the Bills uh fail in the red zone?
- 11:16Speaker 3: No?
- 11:16Speaker 4: Did the Bills fail on third down. No, I mean
- 11:19Speaker 4: they that was a team that's been building for years
- 11:24Speaker 4: to be in this position, and you just saw the difference.
- 11:26Speaker 4: And we can't talk our way around that. I mean
- 11:30Speaker 4: they one team has been building toward this for season
- 11:34Speaker 4: after season after season. The other team is just digging
- 11:38Speaker 4: out of a playoff drought. And the difference was pretty clear.
- 11:43Speaker 4: And they needed luck, turnovers and good fortune and they
- 11:46Speaker 4: didn't get any of it.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and you can't skip steps in the NFL real quick,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and I would imagine leg you this very well is
- 11:54Speaker 1: probably something you'll write about in the off season. What
- 11:59Speaker 1: was Sean Pton doing with the running game exactly this year?
- 12:04Speaker 1: What what was the plan there? Because you look back
- 12:07Speaker 1: over the season, I think five different guys led the
- 12:09Speaker 1: team in rushing. Suddenly, Estimate is inactive yesterday and Bedet
- 12:13Speaker 1: hasn't played since September. But let's throw it back in
- 12:16Speaker 1: there in a playoff game, like, what what were they
- 12:19Speaker 1: up to with with that whole thing?
- 12:23Speaker 4: You know, I don't know this for certain yet, but
- 12:26Speaker 4: I would just tell you my experience tells me there's
- 12:30Speaker 4: too many chefs in the run game kitchen.
- 12:32Speaker 3: They just got to pick a pick a lane.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Uh.
- 12:36Speaker 4: And look, I've been saying it, and you know, I
- 12:40Speaker 4: don't you know, I don't want to puff up or anything,
- 12:42Speaker 4: but I've been saying it for years. People were gonna
- 12:45Speaker 4: figure out running against the nickel would win you a
- 12:47Speaker 4: lot of games. And look at the best offenses in
- 12:50Speaker 4: the playoffs right now, Yep, what are they doing. They're
- 12:54Speaker 4: pounding the crap out of people's nickel defenses. And the
- 12:58Speaker 4: Broncos sack estimate yesterday and then they gave the day
- 13:01Speaker 4: two carries. I mean, to me, that is just it's
- 13:05Speaker 4: it's illogical. Either play the guy you sat him for
- 13:09Speaker 4: or don't sit the guy. But they did both, which
- 13:13Speaker 4: you know, and then they just you know, it continually
- 13:17Speaker 4: amazes me. There are a lot of play callers, and
- 13:19Speaker 4: Sean Payton is one of them that I've seen so far.
- 13:22Speaker 4: You know, Uh, they'll live with incomplete passes by the bucket,
- 13:27Speaker 4: but you have one or two bad runs in a
- 13:29Speaker 4: row and you don't see it again for two drives.
- 13:32Speaker 4: And I saw one team stick to the run yesterday
- 13:37Speaker 4: in a playoff game, and I saw one team not
- 13:40Speaker 4: do it. And I look at time of possession and
- 13:44Speaker 4: I know analytics. A lot of my analytics buddies like
- 13:47Speaker 4: to tell me time and possession doesn't mean anything, and
- 13:50Speaker 4: I would argue that.
- 13:52Speaker 3: There are moments when it does.
- 13:54Speaker 5: And yes, yeah, number place factor plays are pretty yesterday too.
- 14:02Speaker 4: I mean, when when you put a four in it,
- 14:03Speaker 4: I think time possession matters.
- 14:05Speaker 3: When it leads with a four, you are in trouble.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Make you real quick, because we'll reconvene Friday and maybe
- 14:13Speaker 5: we can have you can get some more intel on
- 14:15Speaker 5: what's gonna happen in and outs and all that stuff.
- 14:18Speaker 6: Deonder.
- 14:18Speaker 5: The Cowboys has apparently got some odds, some odds people
- 14:22Speaker 5: looking at the books already. The Raiders apparently have made
- 14:25Speaker 5: it clear that they're not interested in coach Prime. What
- 14:28Speaker 5: do you think do you think there's a realistic shot
- 14:30Speaker 5: Jerry Jones would look his way.
- 14:32Speaker 6: With him being a popular cowboy, alum, you.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Know that's gonna be the buzz.
- 14:37Speaker 4: But I would ask you to look at who Jones
- 14:40Speaker 4: is hired through the years. I don't believe he's hired
- 14:46Speaker 4: anyone who doesn't have, you know, an awful lot of
- 14:50Speaker 4: head coaching experience.
- 14:51Speaker 3: And I don't know if Prime yet qualifies for that.
- 14:56Speaker 4: And you know, especially the last you know, since he Jimmy, Uh,
- 15:02Speaker 4: he's really wanted and the guys after Jimmy, he's wanted
- 15:06Speaker 4: guys with NFL head coaching experience, and and they've all
- 15:11Speaker 4: sort of fallen in that in that loop or guys
- 15:15Speaker 4: who've worked for the team before.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Jason Garrett had a long you know, the.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Last guy he sort of took a chance on was
- 15:21Speaker 4: Chan Gaily and that that didn't work out so great.
- 15:24Speaker 4: So I mean, you know, uh, again, always a chance,
- 15:28Speaker 4: but Jones has not not done that in the past.
- 15:31Speaker 4: And look, you know, how would we know if if
- 15:35Speaker 4: Dion Sanders would be interested in not calling the shots
- 15:39Speaker 4: on personnel.
- 15:40Speaker 3: You know, I don't I don't know that.
- 15:41Speaker 4: We know that he gets to do that in college. Uh,
- 15:45Speaker 4: you do not get to do that with the Cowboys.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Which is why when I hear all these people tell
- 15:49Speaker 4: me what a coveted job it is, I say, look
- 15:52Speaker 4: at the postseason record and look how they run personnel.
- 15:56Speaker 4: And I don't think a real legitimate time head coaching
- 16:01Speaker 4: Canadate is gonna take it without some kind of concession
- 16:05Speaker 4: on Jerry Jones's part.
- 16:06Speaker 6: That's funny.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Troy Aikman just said the thing in the Monday night
- 16:09Speaker 5: football pregame here so said it after the Adam Schefter report, you,
- 16:14Speaker 5: Troy said, point blank saw it an awful announcing. I'm
- 16:17Speaker 5: not sure if this is a coveted job anymore. The
- 16:19Speaker 5: guy they played for, Jerry.
- 16:21Speaker 4: So, I don't know how you can say it. If
- 16:24Speaker 4: if the I mean, look at their well, how they've
- 16:27Speaker 4: handled personnel. I mean it's it's, you know, the last
- 16:31Speaker 4: time they've played a super meaningful playoff game.
- 16:34Speaker 3: It's we were all a lot younger.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It's been a while. Jeff wasn't even in the media.
- 16:42Speaker 1: By the way, Leggy, if if your buddy was has
- 16:45Speaker 1: been fired fourteen times by Sean Payton. How many times
- 16:49Speaker 1: have you quit the Correkman and lindahlh show.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Yeah, well not once. I'm intil the end.
- 16:57Speaker 6: That makes me feel bad. I fired you three times
- 16:59Speaker 6: this interview.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I was gonna say, hey, man, you get yourself some
- 17:01Speaker 1: self respect, Leggy, come on, hey check your text there.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, you know, usually when I see the eye roll,
- 17:08Speaker 3: I know it's coming. So I'm prepared.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Jeff legwold everybody he's with us on the Ramos Law
- 17:15Speaker 1: Hotline car accident. You need Ramo's Law medical doctor and attorney.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Visit ramos Law dot com. Leggy, good work. We'll talk
- 17:21Speaker 1: to you Friday.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Yeah, and if everybody needs any tips on how you
- 17:24Speaker 4: do Buffalo, Orlando, Denver, I'm your guy.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I'll tell you how to do it.
- 17:29Speaker 6: So that's delightful. How much sleep have you had?
- 17:31Speaker 1: Man?
- 17:31Speaker 6: You do it?
- 17:32Speaker 5: Okay, at least they sent you to a warm destination
- 17:36Speaker 5: before bringing you home.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a little frosty in Buffalo this morning. They're
- 17:40Speaker 4: lucky they didn't play the game today. I'll just say.
- 17:43Speaker 1: That, all right. Well, I don't I don't know if
- 17:46Speaker 1: that would have helped her hurt. Jeff lakewold everyone ESPN.
- 17:49Speaker 1: All right,
