- 0:00Speaker 1: All Star Toyota presents Off the Bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where the.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Plays get broken down and Science gets denied to come
- 0:10Speaker 1: off the bench. Hour two of Off the Bench Live
- 0:13Speaker 1: from the Raisin Knees Studio.
- 0:37Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in nowur number two ot B
- 0:40Speaker 3: here live from the Raising Kine Studio. You heard Taday
- 0:45Speaker 3: say it there and that's exactly where we're going. The
- 0:48Speaker 3: New Orleans Saints have made a change at quarterback. Tyler
- 0:51Speaker 3: Schoff will now be the starting quarterback. Spencer Rattler will
- 0:54Speaker 3: go to the backup position. They did it against Tampa Bay.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Shuck comes into the game for Rattler, and you know,
- 1:06Speaker 3: I didn't think it was that close to happening like
- 1:09Speaker 3: it played out there. It was almost like you were
- 1:13Speaker 3: never going to give Spencer Ratler the full opportunity for
- 1:18Speaker 3: the full season to be the guy, Like you were
- 1:19Speaker 3: just waiting for any moment where you could put Tyler
- 1:22Speaker 3: Shuck into the game there. And you know, for the
- 1:26Speaker 3: people that were like you drafted even forty, you got
- 1:28Speaker 3: to see what you have. Well here it is. Here
- 1:31Speaker 3: is what you're going to get. You're going to get
- 1:33Speaker 3: Tyler Shuck now as you're starting quarterback, and typically unless
- 1:37Speaker 3: it's just an abomination, he'll stay your starting quarterback because
- 1:40Speaker 3: you don't look just like we talked about with Spencer Ratler,
- 1:43Speaker 3: you didn't want to mess with his confidence with the
- 1:44Speaker 3: way that he was playing, and you didn't want to
- 1:46Speaker 3: go in out and out.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So now Tyler Shuck's going to be your guy there.
- 1:52Speaker 3: And I personally don't think it should be the move,
- 1:57Speaker 3: but there's a lot of people I wanted to see again.
- 2:01Speaker 2: They wanted to see Tyler Shuck as a starting quarterback.
- 2:03Speaker 3: And so now here we are, what week number what
- 2:07Speaker 3: nine in the NFL, and he's gonna be your guy.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I would assume Matt for the rest of the season too.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I would assume so the way when we talked
- 2:17Speaker 4: to Nick yesterday, he kind of brought up the point,
- 2:19Speaker 4: and I agree with him. It is a little bit
- 2:21Speaker 4: strange because you feel like this Kellen Moore has kind
- 2:24Speaker 4: of been in charge of this whole process, like he's
- 2:26Speaker 4: had a good thumb on the pulse of this whole
- 2:28Speaker 4: process exactly how he wanted to do it. Spencer Rattler
- 2:31Speaker 4: won the starting job. He was the best leader he's
- 2:34Speaker 4: the best player going into the season. Now you've won
- 2:37Speaker 4: one game, you're won and seven, So you you see
- 2:40Speaker 4: the right in the wall that at some point Tyler
- 2:42Speaker 4: Shuck's going to play some football. He's gonna get his
- 2:45Speaker 4: opportunity to go in there and get some experience, get
- 2:47Speaker 4: some game experience, and do what everybody wants him to see, which.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Is see what you have.
- 2:53Speaker 4: So you knew that was gonna happen the way it happened,
- 2:55Speaker 4: which was a little bit, a little bit strange in
- 2:59Speaker 4: my opinion. And you're one and seven, Yeah, your offense
- 3:02Speaker 4: needs to spark a lot of turnovers. I get it,
- 3:05Speaker 4: Like you can't if offensive turned If the offense turns
- 3:08Speaker 4: the ball over, it's going to fall on the quarterbacks shoulders,
- 3:10Speaker 4: whether it's a fumble, whether it's an interception, whether it's
- 3:13Speaker 4: you know, directly has fault or not. And a lot
- 3:15Speaker 4: of them what were his fault? And that was kind
- 3:18Speaker 4: of why, you know, everybody was the protection of the football.
- 3:24Speaker 4: The first handful of weeks was like, yeah, well this
- 3:26Speaker 4: guy's this guy's doing great. He's doing great. He's protecting
- 3:28Speaker 4: the football. They're not turning over, they're not losing the game.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Well they haven't. They did turn it over. So that
- 3:34Speaker 4: was like the first sign that like any like the
- 3:37Speaker 4: blemish on the radar for Spencer Rattler led offense. Now,
- 3:42Speaker 4: of course the points weren't like we were scoring as
- 3:44Speaker 4: many points as we needed to.
- 3:45Speaker 2: They weren't plays being made.
- 3:47Speaker 4: A lot of light goes into that, but you can
- 3:49Speaker 4: always hang your head on they're protecting the football. When
- 3:51Speaker 4: you don't protect the football, you kind of lose lose
- 3:54Speaker 4: that argument. So when you don't, you make a change.
- 3:58Speaker 4: And the way they made the change, that the time
- 4:00Speaker 4: they made the change is so weird because Kellen Moore
- 4:02Speaker 4: has had such a process in mind and he's had
- 4:04Speaker 4: such a he's all, you know, you felt like he
- 4:06Speaker 4: was under control and at the right moment they put
- 4:09Speaker 4: Tyler in give him an opportunity. I did find it
- 4:12Speaker 4: strange that they threw him in in the middle of
- 4:14Speaker 4: the game because they needed a spark on offense on
- 4:16Speaker 4: a one and one and six football team. Yeah and down,
- 4:19Speaker 4: And I think I think he got pulled. He got
- 4:21Speaker 4: pulled after she'd fumbled something like that, which you know
- 4:26Speaker 4: it's not directly Spencer Rattler's fault. Right the offense needed
- 4:29Speaker 4: a little spark. But for a guy that seemed to
- 4:34Speaker 4: be in control of the situation, as Kellen Moore has
- 4:37Speaker 4: I did, that's that decision seemed a little out of
- 4:39Speaker 4: control in my opinion, for a move that everyone kind
- 4:43Speaker 4: of saw that was going to come eventually in the
- 4:45Speaker 4: season because you're not winning games. Whether it's Spencer's fault
- 4:50Speaker 4: or not, it seemed a little bit out of character
- 4:54Speaker 4: to this point for.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Kellen Moore, seemed a little bit out of control.
- 4:57Speaker 4: You I would have thought that when you throw him
- 4:59Speaker 4: in there for the first time to get meaningful reps
- 5:02Speaker 4: to take ownership and leadership of an offense, that you
- 5:06Speaker 4: give him a week of prep to give him the
- 5:08Speaker 4: best opportunity.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and he goes out there and does fine.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I mean it looked, you know, it looked like how
- 5:12Speaker 4: it's looked with Spencer right, some decent throws, some bad
- 5:16Speaker 4: offensive line play, some really bad offensive line play, some
- 5:19Speaker 4: bad receiver play, some really bad receiver play, no real
- 5:22Speaker 4: run game, no real run game to speak of. So
- 5:25Speaker 4: I don't anticipate it looking any different. Yeah, I'm sure
- 5:27Speaker 4: he's gonna hit some big plays and good plays, and
- 5:29Speaker 4: people are gonna cheer there's gonna be some frustrating place
- 5:31Speaker 4: He's gonna hit a lot of checkdown Charlie's he's going to.
- 5:35Speaker 2: The team's not changing around him.
- 5:38Speaker 4: But I do want to take my hat off to
- 5:40Speaker 4: hol Spencer Rattlers handling the situation as well. Hey, he's
- 5:46Speaker 4: handled handled it like a like a professional to the
- 5:53Speaker 4: to the next level as well. I can tell you
- 5:54Speaker 4: when I got when I got benched, I didn't handle
- 5:56Speaker 4: it nearly as well as he did.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I was.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I'm sure he is too, but like it's one of
- 6:03Speaker 4: the situations. Yeah, I saw Nick Underhill sweet yesterday about it.
- 6:06Speaker 4: He caught up with Spencer, Yeah, and kind of asked
- 6:08Speaker 4: him like, hey, man, why did you why did you
- 6:10Speaker 4: decide to take the podium Sunday after the game. You
- 6:13Speaker 4: didn't have to. Wasn't a requirement that you could have,
- 6:16Speaker 4: you know, done a couple of things at your locker
- 6:18Speaker 4: and yeah, gotten taking a shower pill and got out there.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, shower shower that forever.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Uh.
- 6:25Speaker 2: But he said, look, you got to handle it like
- 6:27Speaker 2: a pro.
- 6:27Speaker 4: And this is you know, you take you take your lumps,
- 6:31Speaker 4: you get knocked down, you got to keep fighting.
- 6:33Speaker 2: It doesn't change anything.
- 6:33Speaker 4: I'm gonna handle this and be the best team that
- 6:35Speaker 4: I can be, And not a lot of people will
- 6:38Speaker 4: sit there and say that coming off in the heat
- 6:40Speaker 4: of the moment like that, like maybe after a couple
- 6:42Speaker 4: of days of thinking about it and prepping a speech
- 6:44Speaker 4: and prepping like how I'm going to handle this now?
- 6:46Speaker 2: Then that was they came from the heart and he's serious.
- 6:50Speaker 4: So like a lot of a lot of kudos to him,
- 6:51Speaker 4: which is only going to help Tyler shuck, Like if
- 6:54Speaker 4: he knew there was a disgruntled Spencer Rattler in the room,
- 6:57Speaker 4: Like that doesn't help anybody, no, right, especially the coach,
- 7:01Speaker 4: the quarterback that's playing.
- 7:03Speaker 3: So yeah, and they asked, they asked him, you know
- 7:06Speaker 3: about it after the move was made, and he said,
- 7:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna go about my work the same way.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Pull that.
- 7:13Speaker 3: This is a little bit different quote, but he said,
- 7:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna go about my work the same.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Way that one. If you wanted which one. I think
- 7:18Speaker 2: it's that same quote that you're talking about. It's part
- 7:21Speaker 2: of the game. I'm going to be a great teammate
- 7:22Speaker 2: and respond the right way. I think that is. Look
- 7:25Speaker 2: at Alandra always on top of it. Let's play that audio.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean we came out of the half, didn't
- 7:31Speaker 5: have a great drive, kept getting back to up, back
- 7:33Speaker 5: to back to you know, just really couldn't catch a rhythm.
- 7:37Speaker 5: And you know, he said, hey, we're gonna go with Tyler,
- 7:39Speaker 5: get a little spark. See see what's gonna happen. And
- 7:43Speaker 5: you know it's part of the game, you know, And
- 7:44Speaker 5: I understand you can't control everything, but you know, hey,
- 7:49Speaker 5: I'm gonna be a great teammate and respond the right way,
- 7:52Speaker 5: you know, be a pro about it and helping anyway
- 7:55Speaker 5: I can. I mean, I just go at it the
- 7:57Speaker 5: same way. You know, it's part of the game. I've
- 7:59Speaker 5: been through adversity before. I'm gonna be a good teammate,
- 8:02Speaker 5: have good body language, still be a.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Leader, you know.
- 8:05Speaker 5: So I just got to show up to work, keep
- 8:07Speaker 5: keep a smile on my face, keep working and uh,
- 8:09Speaker 5: you know, you can only control what you can. I've
- 8:11Speaker 5: said that before, So we'll control what I can and
- 8:14Speaker 5: keep attacking the same way.
- 8:16Speaker 2: All right.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's much better than right after the game.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Right after the game, that's that's that's very Uh, let's
- 8:28Speaker 2: place sucks.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Why do I have the the the ultimate feeling that
- 8:32Speaker 3: Spencer ratlet is going to go somewhere else and just
- 8:35Speaker 3: light it up. Just has that feel to it. But
- 8:39Speaker 3: uh yeah, look saying the right things. And for Tyler shuck. Uh,
- 8:42Speaker 3: it's a great opportunity for him now has a full
- 8:44Speaker 3: week to prepare.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Now he's going against the Rams.
- 8:48Speaker 4: That's that's a very very He's an opportunity.
- 8:51Speaker 2: So we call opportunities there, Jake. Yeah. Uh. Kyler Moore
- 8:55Speaker 2: had this to say about it. We weren't playing well
- 8:57Speaker 2: on offense.
- 8:58Speaker 3: It had more to do with our entire offense to
- 9:00Speaker 3: your point, Matt, then Spencer, Yes, Spencer had some turnover
- 9:03Speaker 3: bugs the last two weeks, but he's played plenty of
- 9:05Speaker 3: good football. I was trying to generate a spark, trying
- 9:08Speaker 3: to generate something that can get us going collectively. And
- 9:11Speaker 3: I thought Tyler went in there, dot dot he battled, So.
- 9:18Speaker 2: That tells me he was gonna go. Oh. I thought
- 9:20Speaker 2: Tyler went in there, he battled, He battled.
- 9:24Speaker 3: But it is the offense collectively, and I'm not saying
- 9:28Speaker 3: Spencer Ratler it was perfect by any means.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Look I am he did play it, just keell us play.
- 9:32Speaker 2: He played a lot of good football.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Yeah, in a situation that is not I'm not gonna
- 9:38Speaker 4: say anything's unfair, uh, in a situation that is, other
- 9:41Speaker 4: guys are put in a little bit easier situation because
- 9:44Speaker 4: they don't have guys behind him that are right there
- 9:47Speaker 4: that are a second round pick. Kind of everybody kind
- 9:50Speaker 4: of wants him to play at the first sign of
- 9:51Speaker 4: a blimish, Like if you have a couple of blemishes
- 9:53Speaker 4: and you stack them, then that's I mean, that's kind
- 9:57Speaker 4: of riding on the table a little bit. But do
- 10:00Speaker 4: you look at other situations, look at I mean, I know,
- 10:02Speaker 4: you got to have like there's always an asterisk with
- 10:04Speaker 4: that whatever round you were picked in.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Next day he's got a fifth round.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Is he is Bryce Young playing better than Spencer rally,
- 10:12Speaker 4: but much cleaner situation there.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Not having somebody breathing over your shoulder, you know what
- 10:18Speaker 2: I mean. So anyway, a lot of good too many blimmishes.
- 10:21Speaker 3: The red rifles just there just in case breaking glass,
- 10:24Speaker 3: in case of emergency. He's not looking over they've broken glass. Yeah,
- 10:29Speaker 3: he's playing uniform and everything.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Anyway, there's no there's never there's not an unfair situation.
- 10:33Speaker 4: We're not we're you know, playing the world's tiniest fiddle
- 10:35Speaker 4: here for NFL football players. But yeah, it was a
- 10:40Speaker 4: situation where he couldn't make mistakes. And when you stack
- 10:43Speaker 4: a couple of mistakes on top of each other and
- 10:45Speaker 4: you don't have a winning record, you know, things happen.
- 10:49Speaker 4: But I kind of do get that feeling as well.
- 10:50Speaker 4: I think he's got a lot of good football in
- 10:52Speaker 4: front of him, and I hope Tyler Shuck's got a
- 10:53Speaker 4: lot of good football in front him. So we're gonna
- 10:55Speaker 4: find out he's got an opportunity today. It's a really dangerous,
- 10:59Speaker 4: dangerous Rams football team.
- 11:01Speaker 3: All Right, we will step away and when we come back,
- 11:04Speaker 3: I'm going to be joined by doctor Stephn Etheridge here

- 13:15Speaker 2: He wants to hear j.
- 13:16Speaker 3: T a little deep cut ridiculous Taylor, Wow, so selfish?
- 13:22Speaker 2: How are you worried about your vest? Sexy funds? Here, Doc,
- 13:29Speaker 2: you can imagine though, Yeah, take our.
- 13:34Speaker 7: Yeah, all right, Doctor Steven Etheridge here with us as
- 13:41Speaker 7: he is every single week to break down the latest
- 13:44Speaker 7: injuries across the sports world.
- 13:46Speaker 3: And well we're gonna start doc with uh the twenty
- 13:51Speaker 3: twenty four meathead Player of the Year, Cam Skataboo. He
- 13:55Speaker 3: was playing so well, you know, the Giants weren't winning games,
- 13:58Speaker 3: but it was fun. Jackson Dark camp Scatter, just a
- 14:01Speaker 3: little couple of meatheads out there and just doing meathead things.
- 14:04Speaker 3: And I mean so meathead that he tried to stand
- 14:07Speaker 3: up after his foot was facing the opposite direction. It's
- 14:11Speaker 3: one of those ones like you just don't even want
- 14:13Speaker 3: to watch, kind of walk us through how that happens,
- 14:16Speaker 3: what you do when that happens, and maybe like what
- 14:19Speaker 3: the timetable is for his recovery.
- 14:21Speaker 8: Yeah, it's I guess the p s A is don't
- 14:24Speaker 8: stand up on your foots the wrong.
- 14:25Speaker 2: He tried, and he tries. His teammates were like, no, like,
- 14:30Speaker 2: you look at that.
- 14:30Speaker 8: Thing, right, I just looked down. Well, you see these injuries.
- 14:35Speaker 8: Unfortunately we get them. You know, you'll see them a
- 14:37Speaker 8: few times a year, you feel like, and most of
- 14:39Speaker 8: the times, you know it's gonna be one of those scenarios,
- 14:41Speaker 8: you know, where you kind of you're playing it in
- 14:43Speaker 8: the ground, you're cutting your twist and your body weight's
- 14:45Speaker 8: going one way, but the foot's not, you know, and
- 14:47Speaker 8: it's it's it's something's usally gonna have to give in
- 14:49Speaker 8: that scenario. And unfortunately, in this case, you know, he
- 14:51Speaker 8: had what looked like an ankle dislocation at the time.
- 14:55Speaker 8: When that happens, obviously, yeah, you're gonna see if you've
- 14:57Speaker 8: se an extremity go in the wrong direction, never a
- 14:59Speaker 8: good thing, ever a good thing. And and so at
- 15:02Speaker 8: that point when you're out there assessing that, you first
- 15:04Speaker 8: want to kind of make sure you understand where the
- 15:07Speaker 8: severity of this injury is. You know, is does the
- 15:09Speaker 8: person have a good pulse, because sometimes if you have
- 15:11Speaker 8: an injury like that, you can compromise blood flow of
- 15:13Speaker 8: distial Is is it an open dislocation or fracture, meaning
- 15:16Speaker 8: is there a bone sticking out again? It can get
- 15:18Speaker 8: more gruesome than just a foot going the wrong way,
- 15:20Speaker 8: because if that's the case, you got to control bleeding
- 15:22Speaker 8: and you got to worry about that.
- 15:23Speaker 6: It does sort of affect what we do in that scenario.
- 15:26Speaker 8: And then if possible, is it something that we can
- 15:28Speaker 8: reduce on the field, meaning can we pop it back
- 15:31Speaker 8: in place?
- 15:32Speaker 6: And and ultimately painful?
- 15:34Speaker 2: How painful is that it hurt? Adrenaline going?
- 15:36Speaker 8: Adrenaline's going, and that's why I mean, you want to
- 15:38Speaker 8: get as quick as you can. Adrenaline is still going,
- 15:39Speaker 8: then you want to get that guy then and and
- 15:41Speaker 8: and and and typically it hurts more when it's out
- 15:43Speaker 8: of place. Obviously when it's back in So even though yeah,
- 15:45Speaker 8: popping it back end is gonna hurt, then it's like, oh,
- 15:48Speaker 8: I feel better now, you know, you get that, you
- 15:49Speaker 8: get that immediate relief. So we're gonna try our best
- 15:51Speaker 8: to get it back in place for a lot of
- 15:52Speaker 8: reasons as quickly as possible, you know. And it's it's
- 15:55Speaker 8: it's funny how last week I believe we talked about,
- 15:57Speaker 8: you know, wearing the boots around the facility and the
- 15:58Speaker 8: boot's not necessarily a bad sign. But when you see
- 16:00Speaker 8: that vacuum splint come out, you see that splint where
- 16:02Speaker 8: we're pumping it, and it's the one that you saw
- 16:04Speaker 8: him leave, that's never that's yeah, you don't want to
- 16:06Speaker 8: see the vacuum splint coming off the field. That's gonna
- 16:08Speaker 8: be one because that's something where we're stabilizing that joint
- 16:10Speaker 8: immediately because it's an unstable joint in that scenario, So
- 16:14Speaker 8: you know, and then that's gonna be one.
- 16:15Speaker 2: There.
- 16:15Speaker 8: They're almost always gonna know, be surgical and things like that,
- 16:18Speaker 8: especially an ankle, it's gonna typically need surgery. We're gonna
- 16:20Speaker 8: get evaluated, not right away, but it's it's gonna be
- 16:23Speaker 8: a process.
- 16:24Speaker 3: All right, all right, real quick, Sorry Matt, to cut
- 16:26Speaker 3: you off, but I wanted to ask, like, what's docs
- 16:29Speaker 3: countdown when you're popping back in place? Is it on
- 16:32Speaker 3: three and you go one and then you just do it?
- 16:35Speaker 3: Is it like do you change it up?
- 16:37Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm typically not gonna go on three. I'm gonna
- 16:39Speaker 8: I'm gonna get you a little quick. Uh so fair warning. Yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 8: you know we're gonna talk to him about it. If
- 16:44Speaker 8: you wanted to kind of know what you're gonna do. Uh,
- 16:47Speaker 8: I've got I've grabbed a couple you know, maybe upper
- 16:49Speaker 8: str fingers and just done it before you can give
- 16:50Speaker 8: him the warning.
- 16:51Speaker 6: You know you're gonna have to do it at.
- 16:55Speaker 8: Or half a second, you see that, you see that
- 16:56Speaker 8: anger in the eye, and you gotta kind of you
- 16:58Speaker 8: kinda get kind of lean back just in case a
- 17:00Speaker 8: fist comes flying. But then but then immediately it turns
- 17:02Speaker 8: from you know, to gratitude as soon as you get
- 17:06Speaker 8: it in.
- 17:07Speaker 4: How do you decide in the moment you talked about
- 17:10Speaker 4: you have to figure out you have to diagnose if
- 17:13Speaker 4: it can be popped back into place, because I'm assuming
- 17:15Speaker 4: there's some injuries where it's dislocated, where there could be
- 17:18Speaker 4: some nerve or something issue that you don't want to
- 17:21Speaker 4: pop it back into place. Like it's how do you
- 17:24Speaker 4: make that decision in like in the heat of the moment,
- 17:26Speaker 4: in the split second one.
- 17:26Speaker 8: You know a lot of the times you know it's
- 17:28Speaker 8: going to be you know, if you if you look
- 17:30Speaker 8: at it and if there's something obviously out of place,
- 17:32Speaker 8: you know, an open injury, can we even get this
- 17:34Speaker 8: back in?
- 17:34Speaker 2: You know?
- 17:35Speaker 8: That's that's what I was saying earlier, if there's a
- 17:36Speaker 8: bone sticking out something crazy, do I really fel like
- 17:38Speaker 8: I can even get this to go back right?
- 17:39Speaker 6: So that's going to be the first obvious one.
- 17:41Speaker 8: And then once you've got to move beyond that, you know,
- 17:43Speaker 8: sometimes you're gonna kind of have to get a little fuel.
- 17:45Speaker 6: For what's going on. You have to kind of put
- 17:46Speaker 6: your hands on it.
- 17:47Speaker 8: And if that's the thing's not moving too much when
- 17:49Speaker 8: I grab it, I'm you know, it might be something
- 17:50Speaker 8: where we don't want to do it on the field
- 17:52Speaker 8: at the very least. You know, a lot of times
- 17:53Speaker 8: the shoulder pops out sometimes that can be a little
- 17:55Speaker 8: harder to get back in, so you know, we may
- 17:57Speaker 8: try once or twice really quickly kind of you know,
- 18:00Speaker 8: and if we can't get it low key real quick,
- 18:01Speaker 8: we might get them off into the tent or even
- 18:03Speaker 8: into the locker room. So so it's a I don't know,
- 18:06Speaker 8: there's one thing you look for outside the big catastrophic,
- 18:09Speaker 8: But once you get beyond that, it's it's a lot
- 18:11Speaker 8: of times a little bit of a trial and er.
- 18:12Speaker 8: If it's not sliding in really easy, we might wait
- 18:14Speaker 8: until we.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Because last year it was kind of it was kind
- 18:16Speaker 2: of funny.
- 18:17Speaker 4: My wife and I joked about it now, not to
- 18:18Speaker 4: like compare the two injuries between, like an ankle dislocation,
- 18:21Speaker 4: but my wife were we were throwing football with our
- 18:24Speaker 4: kids outside and she broke her pinky and it was
- 18:26Speaker 4: like hanging to the side, and I was like, well,
- 18:29Speaker 4: close your eyes, I'm gonna pop this thing back in.
- 18:32Speaker 4: And I didn't do it because she was in so
- 18:33Speaker 4: much pain. So I called the doc and I was like,
- 18:35Speaker 4: they're like, well, good thing you didn't pop it back
- 18:37Speaker 4: into place because there's like a spiral fracture in it.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I'm like, well, how would I would have known? Like,
- 18:42Speaker 4: because I remember I remember the hill?
- 18:44Speaker 2: Would you think your ass was qualified enough to do that? Though?
- 18:47Speaker 2: Because I've seen I've seen people do it. I think
- 18:49Speaker 2: my dad did it to me when I was a kid.
- 18:50Speaker 8: Well, and then it is a fracture sometimes so is
- 18:53Speaker 8: it at the joint and sometimes where the disruption is Well,
- 18:57Speaker 8: my brother's a doctor.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I think I felt like I could do it.
- 19:00Speaker 6: Hang around us enough.
- 19:01Speaker 2: It's friends of the family. Jesus, all right, relax, guy, employees.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It had my bone sticking out, Matt, So it's fun.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Get some tape.
- 19:16Speaker 4: So when you when you have that inflatable cast that
- 19:18Speaker 4: comes out, it doesn't necessarily mean that there's a compound fracture, right,
- 19:21Speaker 4: and compounds like when it's sticking out.
- 19:22Speaker 8: Correct, Yeah, compound open, there's a couple of different terms
- 19:25Speaker 8: we use for those, but same thing. You know, it
- 19:28Speaker 8: doesn't necessarily mean that. No, it typically means it's an
- 19:31Speaker 8: unstable injury, or we're worried that it's an unstable injury
- 19:33Speaker 8: at the very least if it's something dislocated, something broken.
- 19:36Speaker 8: Almost definitely when you see that, you know, there might
- 19:38Speaker 8: be a few times we're maybe a little overly cautious
- 19:40Speaker 8: and put it on just in case, but most of
- 19:42Speaker 8: the time you see the vacuum splint.
- 19:43Speaker 6: Yeah, it's gonna be one of those types of.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Injuries when that happens, Like if you have an open
- 19:47Speaker 4: wound like that from a broken bone or dislocation, there's
- 19:49Speaker 4: a bone sticking.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I remember there.
- 19:51Speaker 4: We had a guy in Green Bay who snapped his
- 19:53Speaker 4: femur in half and the femur was sticking out of
- 19:55Speaker 4: his thigh and I was like what, And of course
- 19:58Speaker 4: everyone's back the way, no one's really seeing what happening
- 20:00Speaker 4: because it gets in that cast pretty quickly, like is it.
- 20:04Speaker 4: I don't want to like make light of the situation,
- 20:07Speaker 4: but like you push, push the bone back in and
- 20:09Speaker 4: then like cover up the open wound, Like what do
- 20:11Speaker 4: you do on the.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Definitely gonna cover up the open wound.
- 20:15Speaker 8: You're gonna kind of if you can kind of get
- 20:17Speaker 8: a better alignment, you're gonna you're gonna aim for that.
- 20:19Speaker 8: And then if you think about a part of the
- 20:20Speaker 8: benefit of having this vacuum splint is the compression because
- 20:23Speaker 8: anytime you have have a open wound that's bleeding, you,
- 20:27Speaker 8: especially if it's around a big best vessel, you want
- 20:28Speaker 8: to stop the bleeding. So everything we can do and
- 20:31Speaker 8: part of that is that that vacuum splint is gonna
- 20:32Speaker 8: put pressure on the wound, is gonna kind of compress it.
- 20:35Speaker 8: So so that's where we're starting a lot of times.
- 20:36Speaker 8: So so yeah, we'll put that on and it's open,
- 20:38Speaker 8: we'll cover it.
- 20:40Speaker 9: You know.
- 20:40Speaker 8: Obviously that's one that we're gonna get a little bit
- 20:42Speaker 8: more rapidly out of there to the to the hospital
- 20:43Speaker 8: so we can flush that thing out because you gotta st
- 20:45Speaker 8: worry about infection and things like that. So you really
- 20:47Speaker 8: want to clean those out good and as quick as
- 20:48Speaker 8: you can. Uh So, so all that process starts immediately.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I mean you worry about infections and everything, right, can
- 20:55Speaker 3: you be like certain out there you.
- 20:57Speaker 8: Know field and all the all the stuff that's out there.
- 20:59Speaker 8: I mean, it's it's you got to really watch those
- 21:02Speaker 8: things out good. And you know, there's been a couple
- 21:03Speaker 8: of guys that over the years you've seen it, you
- 21:05Speaker 8: that have had those unfortunately where they got infected after
- 21:08Speaker 8: the fact they had their surgery. And even if you
- 21:10Speaker 8: do everything right, it's a you got to get every
- 21:12Speaker 8: bit of that out of there, and that could be hard.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Uh this next question, you can just say no else
- 21:19Speaker 3: you's had a head coaching change.
- 21:20Speaker 2: We all know that.
- 21:23Speaker 3: You're one of the team doctors, and so you you know,
- 21:26Speaker 3: have communication with the head coach. Like so now when
- 21:30Speaker 3: you have an interim coach, but it is somebody you know,
- 21:32Speaker 3: I mean you've known Frank for a long time, it's
- 21:35Speaker 3: just kind of the same like because you know Frank,
- 21:37Speaker 3: it's just like, Okay, well that's just who we're going
- 21:39Speaker 3: to talk with now about injuries, and it's just yeah.
- 21:42Speaker 6: You know, every coach has gonna have a little bit.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Of a different information.
- 21:47Speaker 6: Yeah, some of them want it right away.
- 21:48Speaker 8: Some of them just say, hey, look we're gonna we're
- 21:50Speaker 8: gonna figure this out later. Some of them want to
- 21:52Speaker 8: hear it, you know, on Sundays we go into we
- 21:54Speaker 8: do treatments. Some of the coaches like to meet with us.
- 21:56Speaker 8: Some of them, I just like to get it from
- 21:57Speaker 8: one source. Some of them want to hear.
- 21:59Speaker 2: The whole group.
- 22:00Speaker 8: So so they're all gonna have a little bit of
- 22:01Speaker 8: their own approach. To your point, you know, we transition
- 22:04Speaker 8: here to Frank should be pretty easy for us. He's
- 22:05Speaker 8: a guy that that's been around the program a while,
- 22:07Speaker 8: guy that all of us have relationships with. I've known
- 22:10Speaker 8: Frank pretty much. He was there when I got here
- 22:12Speaker 8: his last go round. So I mean his guy that
- 22:14Speaker 8: I've known a long time. I think is gonna do
- 22:16Speaker 8: a great job. And and yeah, so I don't I
- 22:19Speaker 8: don't think for us there's gonna be much.
- 22:20Speaker 6: Of a change.
- 22:20Speaker 8: It will be pretty seamless, right But but but yeah,
- 22:23Speaker 8: to your point, each coach is gonna do it a
- 22:24Speaker 8: little bit different, and he may tell us that hey,
- 22:26Speaker 8: this is how I want it.
- 22:26Speaker 6: And that's what we'll do. You know, we can. We're
- 22:28Speaker 6: pretty adapted with those types of things.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Have y'all been kind of in tune with another Schedules
- 22:33Speaker 4: are going to be probably a little bit different. Frank's
- 22:35Speaker 4: gonna have his own touch on a couple of things.
- 22:37Speaker 4: We got a bye week this week, second bye week,
- 22:39Speaker 4: so we've kind of you have the routine down from
- 22:42Speaker 4: last time, but it might be a little bit different.
- 22:43Speaker 4: It would be your first day in you expecting a
- 22:45Speaker 4: different like schedule changes or anything. I know, it's a
- 22:48Speaker 4: bye week, is a big week to get rested, be
- 22:50Speaker 4: it recovered, get treatment, and of course continue to treat
- 22:56Speaker 4: the injuries that are already there. But I expected any
- 22:58Speaker 4: any new schedule this week.
- 23:00Speaker 6: I think schedule will be similar.
- 23:02Speaker 8: You know that he may add in a different workout
- 23:04Speaker 8: here or there, which might have a slight effect on us.
- 23:06Speaker 8: I think, you know, the thing I've been hearing, you know,
- 23:08Speaker 8: mostly is just the attitude. You know, they're they're really
- 23:11Speaker 8: trying to be more intense, trying to to pick up
- 23:13Speaker 8: the intensity is the is the big thing I've heard.
- 23:16Speaker 6: And you know, does that really change the schedule?
- 23:17Speaker 8: No, But I think I think what I've got out
- 23:20Speaker 8: of the first day out of yesterday's practice I heard
- 23:21Speaker 8: it was a little more of an intense practice than
- 23:23Speaker 8: you would he only expect or what we would have
- 23:26Speaker 8: expected during a bye week. I think trying to pick
- 23:28Speaker 8: up the energy a little bit, which.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Is what we want to hear. That's exactly what I
- 23:33Speaker 2: wanted to hear.
- 23:34Speaker 3: That is exactly because there's only one speed at LSU,
- 23:37Speaker 3: and that speed was not being played, and here's hoping
- 23:41Speaker 3: that it gets played.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Uh, Doc, we appreciate it.
- 23:43Speaker 3: I always appreciate the time, even though you're talking about
- 23:45Speaker 3: bone sticking out in the back end and.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yep, my pleasure.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Real quick, what's the worst bone you've ever seen out
- 23:54Speaker 3: on a football field on.
- 23:55Speaker 8: A football field, it's it's probably been an ankle. Uh
- 23:58Speaker 8: some some of the er they're little bit different it. Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 8: what about we had femurs a minute ago. I had
- 24:04Speaker 8: Amerasa have one second. I was a med student in this,
- 24:08Speaker 8: like my first week on a trauma rotation, so very
- 24:10Speaker 8: very new to this. And literally guy comes in from
- 24:12Speaker 8: motorcycle accident and his ankle was hanging on by a
- 24:16Speaker 8: thread of tissue. Fact, the whold My job was the whole.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I'm a lowly med.
- 24:20Speaker 8: Students guy, I'm like, uh, you mean his foot and
- 24:23Speaker 8: I'm looking there is like one little piece of like
- 24:27Speaker 8: tissue hole.
- 24:28Speaker 6: I'm just like, my eyes.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Get this big and can you say is it? You
- 24:31Speaker 2: can't say that.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Right in that scenario didn't didn't work out?
- 24:34Speaker 4: So well yeah right, yeah, So, like I think most
- 24:37Speaker 4: people when we watch sports and like a bad fracture,
- 24:41Speaker 4: a break happens, or something goes to the direction it's
- 24:43Speaker 4: not supposed to go. But God did not create it
- 24:46Speaker 4: that way. It's most of us turn away, right. I can't, like,
- 24:50Speaker 4: I don't like to see bones breaking, like, but I
- 24:53Speaker 4: know your experience with it. To be a doctor you
- 24:56Speaker 4: have to have you can't have that. So but is
- 24:59Speaker 4: there every time it's like you walk up to it
- 25:01Speaker 4: and like you just go, oh yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 6: Well good, well I will say this.
- 25:06Speaker 8: That's the one that makes it worse than sideline because
- 25:07Speaker 8: these are kids that I know, you know, it's a
- 25:09Speaker 8: little different.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:11Speaker 8: So so even though yeah, from the ear, you coming
- 25:13Speaker 8: with this ankle turning the wrong way, you maybe it's
- 25:14Speaker 8: a half second oof, but you know you kind of
- 25:17Speaker 8: turn the switch when you're out there, you know, you realize, like, hey,
- 25:19Speaker 8: this ankle is attached to this guy that I know
- 25:21Speaker 8: really well, kid that I care about. It does have
- 25:23Speaker 8: a little bit of a different effect then true.
- 25:27Speaker 2: You have been like, get up.
- 25:29Speaker 6: Yeah, you can break those cankles, strongest cankles.
- 25:35Speaker 2: In the world.
- 25:36Speaker 3: All right, all right, go to Russell Pools dot com
- 25:39Speaker 3: Russell Pool Company. If you're looking for your dream pool. Remember,

- 26:05Speaker 3: going on at l s U, what's he hearing.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Who's gonna be the next head coach? All of that.
- 26:10Speaker 2: When we come back on O T B.
- 26:13Speaker 10: Off the Bench, y'all really boost say here we go,
- 26:23Speaker 10: y'all really post post dirty soap hang.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Out blocked in on L s U Football twenty four
- 26:34Speaker 1: to seven. You're listening to Off the Bench.
- 26:56Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in O t B.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Trying to get in contact with a guy Chris Love
- 27:01Speaker 3: on three certainly.
- 27:04Speaker 2: To all back in the day little league baseball. The
- 27:08Speaker 2: name christ Love.
- 27:09Speaker 4: It's one of those guys that got really tall early.
- 27:11Speaker 4: He was like, you know, over six foot, so it
- 27:13Speaker 4: wasn't very low.
- 27:14Speaker 2: He went low. Sorry, baseball player. What's Chris doing now?
- 27:22Speaker 2: I don't know. I had spoken to him since that season.
- 27:24Speaker 4: I think we didn't go to the same school on
- 27:26Speaker 4: the same team though, gotcha, I'm.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I get it. You know, clicky, have any high school
- 27:32Speaker 2: friends that you still stay.
- 27:33Speaker 4: In contact with a lot, which is unfortunate kind of
- 27:36Speaker 4: happens when you kind of move away and go back.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Couldn't go to my ten year reunion because I was
- 27:41Speaker 4: playing football?
- 27:42Speaker 2: Yeah, me too, although my high school doesn't have reunions,
- 27:47Speaker 2: so it didn't really matter that I was playing football.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Street Port evangel seems like the peak place that would
- 27:51Speaker 4: have reunions. And it's like, I don't even need to
- 27:54Speaker 4: dust off my letter jacket because I still wear it
- 27:56Speaker 4: pretty frequently.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I see.
- 27:58Speaker 3: That's I kind of wish it was like that. I
- 28:00Speaker 3: wish it was like West Caine and the coyotes.
- 28:03Speaker 2: It wasn't. I didn't even like have a letterman jacket
- 28:06Speaker 2: because like we all sport.
- 28:09Speaker 4: That is one of the more shocking things because I'm
- 28:12Speaker 4: a jock. No, just because you know, the report of
- 28:16Speaker 4: Angels seems.
- 28:17Speaker 2: I don't want to say it, but it seems kind
- 28:19Speaker 2: of douchey.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Oh it's because you wouldn't play us.
- 28:23Speaker 4: I can say that on there, I think so Taylor London,
- 28:26Speaker 4: I say douchey Hunter.
- 28:28Speaker 3: I mean you said like three times right then, so
- 28:30Speaker 3: well it's confirmation it was for education. I can just
- 28:32Speaker 3: tell you right now. We had to work y'all. We
- 28:36Speaker 3: had to beat y'all with our frosted tips.
- 28:37Speaker 4: And it would have been a tight first one and
- 28:41Speaker 4: a half quarters something like that.
- 28:43Speaker 3: After like the fifteenth past that we just hit over
- 28:46Speaker 3: the top of your basic Cover three.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Yeah, probably like probably.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Super basic looking back on it. Oh, cover three is tough.
- 28:55Speaker 4: You gotta drop a safety down. There's a lot of
- 28:57Speaker 4: communication that has to happen.
- 28:58Speaker 2: But true, that's fair, that's completely fair. Yeah, No, ten
- 29:03Speaker 2: yure reunion, No twenty year, which twenty year would have
- 29:06Speaker 2: been last year.
- 29:08Speaker 4: So but I'll spend on the ball seven to nine
- 29:09Speaker 4: times a game he'd have been toast.
- 29:15Speaker 3: You know, you weren't going at seven and nine times.
- 29:17Speaker 3: You know, it was more three or four those.
- 29:19Speaker 2: A couple of games now maybe six seven completions. How
- 29:22Speaker 2: you think those ankles got so sturdy it was running
- 29:24Speaker 2: the option? I don't know. How do I get recruited? Uh?
- 29:28Speaker 2: Well you barely did.
- 29:29Speaker 3: We found that out when we had jimbo On duly
- 29:32Speaker 3: said your ankles were not recruitable. All right, let's go
- 29:37Speaker 3: to the phone lines now. Our guy Chris low On
- 29:40Speaker 3: three joins us. See Low, what's going on?
- 29:42Speaker 9: Brother? How we doing doing great?
- 29:45Speaker 8: Jacob?
- 29:46Speaker 9: Good to do with you guys here on the bye
- 29:49Speaker 9: you you guys look for a head football coach.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that we do for sure, se Low and Hey,
- 29:55Speaker 3: one of the things that I want to ask you
- 29:57Speaker 3: about is the timing of everything now compared to what
- 30:01Speaker 3: it used to be. And we were talking about it earlier,
- 30:03Speaker 3: you know. Coach O got hired at the end of November.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Brian Kelly got hired at the end of November because
- 30:08Speaker 3: it was a fourteen playoff for BK and even though
- 30:10Speaker 3: they still had a chance at getting into the fourteen playoff,
- 30:14Speaker 3: he decides to take the LSU job. Well, now with
- 30:16Speaker 3: the twelve team playoff, and every candidate that we talk
- 30:20Speaker 3: about with LSU, for the most part is somebody that
- 30:23Speaker 3: still has a chance at the twelve team playoff.
- 30:25Speaker 2: And so.
- 30:27Speaker 3: What does a timing look like now, because we know
- 30:29Speaker 3: like early signing day's December the third.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Now the transfer portal windows not till January.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Now that got pushed back, but it's early January, Jared,
- 30:36Speaker 3: I believe January the second is when that starts. And
- 30:39Speaker 3: so seelow, do you think that LSU will wait for
- 30:43Speaker 3: the right guy, even though it's not a guarantee if
- 30:45Speaker 3: you wait for said right guy.
- 30:48Speaker 9: I've asked that same question to people near all these
- 30:51Speaker 9: situations and they all have told me the same thing
- 30:54Speaker 9: that if it's the right guy, the guy they absolutely
- 30:57Speaker 9: won't that absolutely because they're not going to let the
- 31:00Speaker 9: fact that the season gets pushed or has been pushed
- 31:02Speaker 9: back keep them from hiring the coach that they all want.
- 31:06Speaker 9: And of course, the game everyone's talking about Flint Kiffin,
- 31:09Speaker 9: I understand that's been you know, batting about the well,
- 31:12Speaker 9: what if ole miss makes a deep front to playoff,
- 31:15Speaker 9: which they could, I mean, the first game is what
- 31:18Speaker 9: the nineteenth of December. So let's say they win that
- 31:22Speaker 9: or even gonna buy and don't play until January. I
- 31:26Speaker 9: still later that year, I guess later in the year,
- 31:29Speaker 9: right before New Year's I don't think that will be
- 31:32Speaker 9: a deal breaker. Would it make it more difficult? Yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 9: But I don't think a school in this case LSU
- 31:41Speaker 9: or flour for that matter, are going to sacrifice the
- 31:45Speaker 9: guy that they want and the guy they feel like
- 31:47Speaker 9: they can get. The guy that they feel like is
- 31:49Speaker 9: the difference maker, because I think we have it's been
- 31:52Speaker 9: proven at LSU and other schools. If you get the
- 31:54Speaker 9: right guy, then you're gonna win a high level. Certainly
- 31:58Speaker 9: at LSU. Kelly's three possessors all won national championships at
- 32:03Speaker 9: Florida or amer One national title sees Fur won a
- 32:06Speaker 9: national title. Look at your old coach, Nick Saban did
- 32:10Speaker 9: at LSU. I mean people forget Jake. LSU had lost,
- 32:14Speaker 9: had had nine loves in season eleven years before Nick
- 32:18Speaker 9: got yeah, uh and he wins one in oh three.
- 32:21Speaker 9: Look at what Alabama was that said the fire. So
- 32:24Speaker 9: I think there's too many examples out there, even though
- 32:26Speaker 9: we're a different time with the season being extended. If
- 32:30Speaker 9: a school gets the right coach, it makes all the
- 32:33Speaker 9: difference in the world.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Chris, does it become a waiting like you're saying, like
- 32:38Speaker 4: if a team has their guy pinpointed and they think
- 32:42Speaker 4: they have a good opportunity to get I'm like, time
- 32:44Speaker 4: is not really the issue. They will wait for that
- 32:47Speaker 4: right guy because, like you said, if you get the
- 32:48Speaker 4: right guy, anything can happen.
- 32:50Speaker 2: We see what happens.
- 32:52Speaker 4: But I'm looking at the landscape and I'm looking at
- 32:55Speaker 4: all of college football. I'm looking at the coaching openings
- 32:58Speaker 4: right now. There are a lot of blue blood that
- 33:00Speaker 4: are going to be looking for coaches, and there's only
- 33:02Speaker 4: so many of those people that has ended up on
- 33:04Speaker 4: the top of everybody's list.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Right now.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin is the hot name that everybody's talking about,
- 33:08Speaker 4: but he's also being talked about for the Florida job,
- 33:10Speaker 4: for the Penn State job, for every job. And there's
- 33:13Speaker 4: going to be more big time schools that come open.
- 33:16Speaker 4: So at some point, if you're an LSU, if you're
- 33:18Speaker 4: a Florida, if you're at Penn State, are you looking
- 33:20Speaker 4: at all?
- 33:20Speaker 2: Right?
- 33:20Speaker 4: There's two guys that we really want that we would
- 33:24Speaker 4: wait until mid January for but there's five positions, five teams,
- 33:28Speaker 4: including the team that he's currently at that we think
- 33:32Speaker 4: that he may or may not go to.
- 33:33Speaker 2: So how confident?
- 33:35Speaker 4: How many like back channel conversations can you have that
- 33:40Speaker 4: would make an LSU or Florida comfortable waiting that long
- 33:44Speaker 4: with so many good job openings open.
- 33:47Speaker 9: Yeah, there's no way a school considers in on one
- 33:51Speaker 9: just one guy first of all, but they will stir
- 33:54Speaker 9: in on their guy and have those backchannel conversations. All
- 33:57Speaker 9: these coaches have agents, not the same agent, so yeah,
- 34:05Speaker 9: I mean their conversations being hell and you know James
- 34:09Speaker 9: excuse me not James Franklin and Marcus Freeman is another
- 34:11Speaker 9: guy a lot of schools would love to have. And
- 34:13Speaker 9: I know there's been reports out because he's not going
- 34:15Speaker 9: here and going there, But she still kicked the tires
- 34:18Speaker 9: with guys like that. You just do Are people kicking
- 34:23Speaker 9: the tires with a cannon de boar out West? Hey?
- 34:25Speaker 9: Are you really happy they're in Alabama? So you know
- 34:29Speaker 9: it's Penn State doing that, So I guarantee you there
- 34:32Speaker 9: and not just with Lane Kiffin. There are those conversations
- 34:35Speaker 9: because that's why you hire an agent, right, you coach
- 34:38Speaker 9: a football team, you know, And Lane has told me, hey,
- 34:41Speaker 9: I didn't you know, I didn't handled the last time
- 34:43Speaker 9: real well, you know when when Auburn came after him
- 34:46Speaker 9: betweenty twenty two. I think he's learned from that. I
- 34:49Speaker 9: think everyone has learned from that, you know, around him.
- 34:52Speaker 9: So I don't think it's a deal breaker. Does it
- 34:54Speaker 9: make it harder? Does it make a school be a
- 34:56Speaker 9: little bit more creative and make sure you've got a
- 35:00Speaker 9: a couple of guys that you all like that. Everybody
- 35:02Speaker 9: makes these life Absolutely, But we've seen coordinators do it now,
- 35:07Speaker 9: granted in a fourteen playoff for man. Kirby Smart did
- 35:11Speaker 9: it when he was Alabama and went to Georgia. Dan
- 35:14Speaker 9: Landing did it when he was at Georgia and went
- 35:17Speaker 9: to Oregon. Again, coordinators and the head coaches you know
- 35:22Speaker 9: at the time is a little bit different animal, but
- 35:25Speaker 9: it is. It is at least similar, And I have
- 35:28Speaker 9: no doubt that. Let's say it is Lane Kiffin at
- 35:31Speaker 9: LSU or Florida or wherever. But I'm telling you, guys,
- 35:34Speaker 9: you're right, they're gonna be other open. We're not done.
- 35:37Speaker 9: I think Florida State absolutely could open.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 35:41Speaker 9: And I got a little secret for you. And Lane
- 35:42Speaker 9: Kiffin was majorly in play there at Florida State two
- 35:46Speaker 9: years ago when it looked like Norville might go to Alabama.
- 35:50Speaker 9: You know, so there's gonna be other you know, does
- 35:52Speaker 9: Auburn open And again I'm not suggesting that Lang was
- 35:56Speaker 9: at Alburn, but you guys know that these other jibs
- 36:00Speaker 9: start opening that there's even more with dollin all effect,
- 36:03Speaker 9: and then everyone starts trying to race to meet the
- 36:06Speaker 9: other one to get their guy. Guys, I don't is
- 36:09Speaker 9: there enough coaches out there who truly qualify and established
- 36:13Speaker 9: to fill all these jobs?
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yeah, now I'm with you. I'm with you too.
- 36:17Speaker 3: And and also like not only that ce Low and
- 36:20Speaker 3: again I agree, but it's like for LSU, it's like, Okay,
- 36:24Speaker 3: well you need something different than what you just had
- 36:27Speaker 3: for Penn State. You need something different like Flora. You
- 36:29Speaker 3: know how that goes? Like for Florida, they're probably not
- 36:32Speaker 3: looking at John Sumral from Tulane because they just hired
- 36:35Speaker 3: a coach out of the Sunbelt billion apier and it
- 36:37Speaker 3: didn't work well. So their fan base doesn't want to
- 36:39Speaker 3: hear another group of six coach even though John Sumral
- 36:42Speaker 3: is a really good football coach for LSU, like, don't
- 36:45Speaker 3: talk about James Franklin because they feel like they just
- 36:48Speaker 3: had a version of James Franklin. Probably the same thing
- 36:51Speaker 3: for Penn State and Brian Kelly's name got brought out there.
- 36:53Speaker 3: So not only is it the pool going to be small,
- 36:55Speaker 3: there's also different filters based off the job.
- 36:59Speaker 9: Yeah, and I think again, let's just choose Florida and
- 37:02Speaker 9: l s U. Now there are different schools, and I'm
- 37:05Speaker 9: not saying they're the same, but they're both a SEC schools.
- 37:08Speaker 9: They both have unbelievably fertile recruiting grounds in their states.
- 37:12Speaker 9: So if you're l s U right now, or if
- 37:14Speaker 9: you're Florida, I think you want guys that will fit,
- 37:17Speaker 9: Guys that understand the conference, guys who are coaching the conference,
- 37:21Speaker 9: Guys that are recruiting the conference. Guys that will galvanize
- 37:25Speaker 9: the money people. Jake were The two of us have
- 37:27Speaker 9: talked about this that when ex coach comes in, whether
- 37:31Speaker 9: it's Jacob Pastor or Chris lower Lane Kiffin, that they're
- 37:34Speaker 9: going to get the money people there exciting enough that
- 37:36Speaker 9: they're going to invest. I got a piece coming out
- 37:40Speaker 9: later there on three. And by the way, Jacob, you
- 37:42Speaker 9: are prominently featured in this piece. And I talked to
- 37:47Speaker 9: your former coach, Nick Saban about this and it was
- 37:51Speaker 9: really interesting what he had to say about what makes
- 37:53Speaker 9: a good job now. But I think those are the
- 37:56Speaker 9: things that those two schools in particular, when you come in,
- 38:01Speaker 9: you know, do the guys who have money, because let's
- 38:03Speaker 9: be honest that Flora and LSU and DAMA and Texas,
- 38:07Speaker 9: all of those schools have guys boosters who have tons
- 38:10Speaker 9: of money. But the question is how many of those
- 38:13Speaker 9: can you get to pulling up a kind of money's
- 38:16Speaker 9: going to take now to build rosters, right, And I
- 38:19Speaker 9: think that's that is the No. Number one thing in schools,
- 38:22Speaker 9: evaluate cans. Who can we get in here that's gonna
- 38:26Speaker 9: truly help galvanize our money people, get them together, earn
- 38:32Speaker 9: the kind of trust and confidence that we're going to
- 38:36Speaker 9: be able to give them the kind of money to
- 38:37Speaker 9: build this roster. I mean LSU was a little bit
- 38:40Speaker 9: late to the party. They spend a ton of money
- 38:41Speaker 9: on this roster, which, yeah, heads crashing and they're not better.
- 38:46Speaker 9: I guess around eighteen millions. But I think that's that's
- 38:49Speaker 9: that's the waters you got to be swimming in, whether
- 38:51Speaker 9: it's Florida, LSU, or anywhere.
- 38:54Speaker 4: Chris, I don't think there's ever been a more challenging
- 38:57Speaker 4: time in college football history to be a head coach
- 39:00Speaker 4: or to be a coach, just because of the nil
- 39:04Speaker 4: and having to navigate a brand new world and brand
- 39:07Speaker 4: new landscape, and having to constantly recruit guys that are
- 39:09Speaker 4: still on the roster and navigate you know, salaries and
- 39:12Speaker 4: paying players and everything like that. But with the emergence
- 39:16Speaker 4: of a twelve team playoff, the expectations certainly have skyrocket,
- 39:20Speaker 4: and I think that's probably one of the big reasons
- 39:22Speaker 4: we're seeing so many coaching turnovers mid season is because, well,
- 39:26Speaker 4: you know, with the four team playoff, that was one thing.
- 39:27Speaker 4: It's like, all right, that's the top four. It's fine,
- 39:29Speaker 4: we're close to that. We're not there yet, It's understandable.
- 39:33Speaker 4: But with a twelve team playoff, it seems like every
- 39:35Speaker 4: team that has a chance feels like they should be
- 39:37Speaker 4: making the playoffs. So they have this definitive line that says,
- 39:41Speaker 4: twelve team playoff it should be. I mean, it's a
- 39:42Speaker 4: lot harder than you think, but it should be you know,
- 39:44Speaker 4: a lot easier to make that playoff.
- 39:46Speaker 2: So it's either playoff or bust.
- 39:48Speaker 4: And when you get eliminated or mathematically eliminated from that opportunity,
- 39:52Speaker 4: I think the fan base becomes a little restless. Have
- 39:54Speaker 4: you ever do you think that is playing a big
- 39:56Speaker 4: part in a lot of these coaches being that we
- 39:59Speaker 4: didn't think getting turned over turnover?
- 40:02Speaker 9: Yeah, well, I think it's everything is geared down towards
- 40:05Speaker 9: the playoffs that if you don't make the playoffs, it's
- 40:08Speaker 9: been a bad season. And you know, you know, eight
- 40:12Speaker 9: years ago, ten years ago you had four making it,
- 40:14Speaker 9: and you know, making it New Year six Bowl was
- 40:17Speaker 9: a big deal. It's it's going to a bowl game.
- 40:20Speaker 9: Now it's not a big deal, certainly with the kind
- 40:22Speaker 9: of money as you point out, that's being spent on rosters,
- 40:26Speaker 9: on coaches, and when you know, people whether are wealthy,
- 40:33Speaker 9: don't typically in my experience, spend money nless. They thinks
- 40:36Speaker 9: there's going to be a return on their investment, and
- 40:38Speaker 9: there's certainly not going to keep doing it if there's
- 40:41Speaker 9: no return. And I think the people now that are
- 40:43Speaker 9: funding on all these flectors feel like right or wrong
- 40:48Speaker 9: that they have or should have more of a say,
- 40:50Speaker 9: and there's going to be more pressure from that on coaches.
- 40:54Speaker 9: I think that's sort of what you're saying, that, hey,
- 40:56Speaker 9: we got to get this done quick, we got to
- 40:58Speaker 9: flip this thing quick. And I think for a guy
- 41:00Speaker 9: like Brian Kelly, the problem was that you saw. There's
- 41:05Speaker 9: other examples of that. You know, Kirby Smart in his
- 41:08Speaker 9: second year at Georgia had Georgia in the national championship team.
- 41:13Speaker 9: Josh Heifel in his second year it was his second
- 41:17Speaker 9: year at Tennessee or third year, had Tennessee the playoff.
- 41:22Speaker 9: So here recently, Blayne had over that's the game away
- 41:26Speaker 9: from the playoff last year. He's won ten games a
- 41:29Speaker 9: bunch of years, so you know, he's slipped it pretty quickly.
- 41:32Speaker 9: And I think that's with the money again it's being
- 41:35Speaker 9: doled out. There is that pressure. I think that it's
- 41:38Speaker 9: probably greater than we've ever seen it before, which is
- 41:42Speaker 9: why ads get squirrely. Money people get squirrely. They put
- 41:45Speaker 9: pressure on a D and then we've sort of seen
- 41:48Speaker 9: then the A D maybe is not as front and
- 41:52Speaker 9: center and making something he's high. I mean, look at
- 41:54Speaker 9: what is happened in Virginia tide. I don't know how
- 41:57Speaker 9: much badcock you know, is involved. People are bringing it
- 42:00Speaker 9: in general manners to make I mean, how much well
- 42:02Speaker 9: scott Wood would be involved in this higher Uh. There's
- 42:06Speaker 9: a lot of those questions, and I think all that is, yes,
- 42:08Speaker 9: a by product of certainly how we've seen the landscape
- 42:11Speaker 9: chams with some of the money that's being paid out.
- 42:14Speaker 9: And then I world, all.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Right, there is I got Chris Low on three, senior
- 42:18Speaker 3: college football reporter.
- 42:19Speaker 2: See Low. We appreciate the time as always, sir.
- 42:22Speaker 9: Yeah, Hey Jake, what would you and now have been
- 42:25Speaker 9: when you got to l SU? It's been an il
- 42:28Speaker 9: out the street? Much would you a pocket?
- 42:31Speaker 5: Uh?
- 42:32Speaker 3: Maybe when I got here not a lot, But when
- 42:33Speaker 3: I left I think I would have done pretty well.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Seelough, all right, good answer. No, we appreciated Chris.
- 42:43Speaker 9: All right, see you guys, take care.
