- 1:16Elon Musk's XAI has spent the last six months building an
- 1:20enterprise sales team to pitch Grok to major corporations.
- 1:24Now that team now exceeds a dozen people, and I honestly did
- 1:28not see that move coming this fast.
- 1:31I knew they're going after enterprise, but I didn't know
- 1:32it's going to be so soon now. The company was founded in 2023
- 1:37and now it is trying to compete with Open AI and Anthropic for
- 1:40business contracts worth billions.
- 1:42Problem is that XAI has no track record in enterprise sales.
- 1:46Companies evaluating AI tools want reliability, integration,
- 1:50support and long term partnerships.
- 1:52Now those are areas where XAI is still figuring those things out.
- 1:56So what happens when a start evaluated at $113 billion tries
- 2:00to sell to Fortune 500 companies without a single proven
- 2:03deployment? Now there are several things
- 2:07that we have to take into account.
- 2:08Inexperience, controversial outputs, misinformation,
- 2:12incidents, and a burn rate of roughly a billion dollars per
- 2:16month. Now we're going to cover what
- 2:18Xai is pitching, what Grok actually performs well, why
- 2:22corporations are hesitant, and what all of this means for the
- 2:26AI enterprise market. And we'll get right into that
- 2:29after this very short break. Now, XAI is trying to turn Grok
- 2:35into a revenue engine. The company raised $22 billion
- 2:38and reached a valuation of $113 billion.
- 2:41Revenue projections set around a billion dollars this year.
- 2:45Compare that to Open AI, which is expected to bring in roughly
- 2:48$15 billion. The gap is pretty big.
- 2:53Grok holds about 2.5% of the AI market right now, and enterprise
- 2:57customers do not buy based on the hype.
- 3:01They want robust APIs, compliance with data privacy
- 3:05regulations, and proven scalability.
- 3:08Those are the basics. XAI is racing to develop them,
- 3:12but rivals have years of experience on that now.
- 3:15Open AI has widespread adoption, too.
- 3:18Anthropic has multiple competitive models with
- 3:20established integrations. XAI has Musk's name and a
- 3:24chatbot that performs well in certain benchmarks but hasn't
- 3:27really proven itself in corporate environments.
- 3:31But Grok does have real technical strengths.
- 3:34The latest version, Grok 4.20, outperformed competitors in a
- 3:38stock trading simulation, achieving a 47% return on NASDAQ
- 3:43investments. That kind of performance is
- 3:45quantitative. Tasks could matter in finance.
- 3:48Hedge funds and banks need tools that can analyze markets and
- 3:51execute strategies, And if Grok can deliver consistent results
- 3:55in that domain, it opens up one door.
- 3:58But that door could be closed very fast.
- 4:01Grok has had multiple public stumbles during the Bondi Beach
- 4:04shooting in Australia. The chat box spread
- 4:06misinformation about the attacker's identity.
- 4:09Then it corrected itself. Now that kind of error destroys
- 4:12trust for business critical applications.
- 4:14Enterprisers cannot afford an AI tool that gets facts wrong
- 4:19during breaking events. Now, there was another incident
- 4:24that made headlines. In a hypothetical scenario, Grok
- 4:28was asked whether it would run over a group of children to save
- 4:31Elon Musk. Grok said of course, yes, it
- 4:34would. Now, that output was insane, and
- 4:37it raised eyebrows among corporate buyers who care about
- 4:40brand safety. Conservative Fortune 500
- 4:43companies do what? Not want an AI that generates
- 4:46that kind of content. Even as a thought experiment, XA
- 4:50is burn rate adds pressure. Billion dollars per month the
- 4:53company is spending faster than its earning.
- 4:56The funding runway is substantial, over 40 billion
- 4:58raised in total. But investors expect returns in
- 5:02the future. Now, without meaningful
- 5:05enterprise penetration, XAI risks becoming a high valuation
- 5:09company with limited commercial traction.
- 5:12Now, XAI announced a partnership with Saudi Arabia and a company
- 5:16called Humane to integrate Grok into regional AI initiatives.
- 5:21That deal could serve as a proving ground for XAI Now, if
- 5:26they can demonstrate reliable deployments in markets with
- 5:28fewer regulatory hurdles. That builds case studies for
- 5:31pitching to other countries like the United States.
- 5:36Now Musk's bigger ecosystem offers another angle.
- 5:40Grock is now embedded in Tesla navigation systems, providing
- 5:43real time AI assistance for drivers.
- 5:46That integration gives XAI a unique distribution channel, but
- 5:50also raises questions about data privacy and cross company
- 5:53dependencies. Businesses outside Musk's orbit
- 5:57may not want their AI stack tied to Tesla or X.
- 6:01So what's going on? The enterprise AI market rewards
- 6:04vendors with proven scalability and support ecosystems.
- 6:08XAI has neither of those quite yet and has a sales team, and
- 6:12it's pitching Grok's reasoning capabilities and its niche
- 6:16strengths. But potential clients are asking
- 6:18for deployment histories that can do much more than that, and
- 6:23they also don't even exist yet. And Tropic and a open AI have
- 6:28those histories. They have the relationships,
- 6:30they have the compliance certifications.
- 6:33But there's also a counterpoint. Some users on X report a 36 to
- 6:37one ROI for marketing teams using Grok.
- 6:40That kind of grass roots advocacy matters.
- 6:42If enough businesses see value in specific use cases where it
- 6:46spreads, go after the marketing, make money.
- 6:49Go after the stock trading, make money, have enough businesses
- 6:53see value. That will be money for XAI.
- 6:57But scaling for from individual users to enterprise contracts
- 7:02requires a different kind of infrastructure.
- 7:04It requires account managers, service level agreements, and
- 7:08support teams that can respond at scale if anything goes wrong.
- 7:13Now XAI has some legal stuff going on, too.
- 7:17Musk's lawsuit against Apple and Open AI appears driven more by
- 7:20personal fixations than Grok Promotion, but it impacts
- 7:24perception. Corporate buyers evaluating XAI
- 7:27see a company whose CEO is publicly fighting with
- 7:30competitors. That's not stable.
- 7:33Nobody wants that. Nobody wants the drama now.
- 7:36The broader lesson here is about timing.
- 7:40XAI entered the market late and is trying to catch up through
- 7:43sheer capital and technical wisdom.
- 7:46The valuation is massive. The burn rate is massive.
- 7:49The team is growing slowly, steadily.
- 7:52But enterprise sales move slowly.
- 7:55Companies take months to evaluate vendors, run pilots,
- 7:57and negotiate contracts. And XAI needs quick wins to
- 8:01justify its spending and to make some money.
- 8:04And quick wins in enterprise? They're pretty rare.
- 8:08It's going to take a long time before XAI catches up to Open
- 8:12AI. Hey, thank you so much for
- 8:15listening today. I really do appreciate your
