Transcript
- 0:10Hello and welcome to Nick and Kristen in the podcast.
- 0:12I'm Nick, that's Kristen. This is the podcast.
- 0:15I got my squishy today. It's a.
- 0:17Squishy day it's. A long day.
- 0:18This is recorded very late at night, later than we normally
- 0:22record, and we're both very tired.
- 0:24We've had long days. Long day Tuesdays are long days.
- 0:27Yes, I was almost to the point we're like, I don't think we
- 0:31need to do a podcast, Who cares? That's how tired we are right
- 0:34now. Yeah, so I'm just going to play
- 0:36with my squishy while we talk about some random stuff that we
- 0:39have like in our chamber. Like so today I basically just
- 0:41kind of drove to Longview. It was me and Lily all day and I
- 0:46shot some pictures, took some pictures for some real estate.
- 0:49So I'm trying to get into some side gig stuff, and it's all
- 0:51pretty much just side gig stuff at this point.
- 0:54And then Kristen worked her full gig, her real gig.
- 0:58Or yeah. Main gig, well the only gig.
- 1:00They only have the only gig of the house at the moment, but my
- 1:03only gig, Yeah. So I I'm a therapist.
- 1:06If you're just tuning in for the first time, you're not.
- 1:08It's the same people over and over again, you know that.
- 1:11But I had eight clients today back-to-back.
- 1:14And by the way, that is too much back-to-back.
- 1:17Yes, but you're kind of off tomorrow, right?
- 1:20Yeah, tomorrow. Tomorrow's my day off, so I'm
- 1:22really excited. So it's like it's kind of
- 1:24Monday's a sort of a light day for me.
- 1:26Tuesday's like the big day and then it's like I get a day off.
- 1:29So it's like, OK. It's nice, which is nice.
- 1:32There's some big news happening in the country music and for the
- 1:34first time we were like, we'll talk about that.
- 1:38We don't have to talk about Jelly Roll and Bunny getting
- 1:41divorced, but I thought it's interesting because Jelly Roll
- 1:43obviously a country singer. It's been crossing over into the
- 1:45pop world. Him and his wife are, he's the
- 1:50star, but they're kind of a duo. They have like social media
- 1:54presence together. She just wrote a book.
- 1:57They're kind of everywhere together.
- 1:59Their story is very linked. When you think Jelly Roll, you
- 2:02think Bunny. Yeah, she, I don't know if she
- 2:05was popular before this. I think she was, she was just
- 2:07like he was, you know, in an outside of the country realm or
- 2:10whatever. And now they've made each other
- 2:12even more popular. And she had, I think she had a
- 2:14podcast and she's like all this stuff going on.
- 2:17So they're both equally like famous.
- 2:19So by the way, she's worth $7,000,000.
- 2:22He's worth about 20. So like, she's not like come
- 2:25from nothing, right? Like she's, she's a star in her
- 2:28own right. But they announced that they're
- 2:30getting divorced, and it did seem to kind of come out of
- 2:33nowhere because they've been talking a lot about how great
- 2:36their marriage is and how wonderful it is.
- 2:38And they were planning on having kids.
- 2:40Their whole thing was that they were planning on having twins,
- 2:42they were starting IVF and Jelly Roll recently lost like 300 lbs,
- 2:48something around that. Like, yeah.
- 2:50Crazy. They went from big, big Jelly
- 2:52roll to little. Jelly Roll.
- 2:53Yeah. So like a lot of people saying
- 2:54like, oh, he's looking good. Like is that the reason that
- 2:56they got divorced? Like clearly there's no they
- 2:58didn't be like here's the reason they just filed or whatever.
- 3:01It's only been a couple of days, so they haven't either one of
- 3:03them haven't made any statements yet.
- 3:05So if you're reading this or if you're watching this after they
- 3:07made a statement, they haven't. As of yet, so, but it's
- 3:11interesting because a lot of people are turning against Bunny
- 3:14online. This is what I've seen because
- 3:17recently within the last three or four weeks or no three or
- 3:20four months, I'm sorry, she released a book and it was kind
- 3:23of like a memoir because she's LED this very interesting life.
- 3:26And in it she talks about her relationship with Jelly and how
- 3:30like they worked on their marriage.
- 3:32It was a very rocky marriage. They broke up several times, got
- 3:35back together, but how they had like cracked the code on how to
- 3:38have a great relationship. A lot of the the second-half of
- 3:42the book was about like here's how we have a great relationship
- 3:45and here's how you could have a great relationship.
- 3:48Wasn't a self help book, but a lot of people extrapolated a lot
- 3:51of information from that as to like how to have a good
- 3:55relationship. OK.
- 3:56Interesting. Yeah.
- 3:56And so now on the heels of that book coming out, they announced
- 4:01that they're getting divorced and a lot of people feel
- 4:03swindled. Yeah, I mean, I can see that,
- 4:06'cause you go in and you're you're reading it and you're
- 4:08like, oh, this. And anyone, whoever says they
- 4:10have a perfect marriage is wrong.
- 4:12Like no one ever has a perfect. Marriage.
- 4:13Well, no, it's yeah, there's no such thing as perfection.
- 4:16But a lot of people were like, hey, what else have you been
- 4:20lying about or embellishing? Because there's no way this came
- 4:23out of nowhere. Now you pointed out to me like
- 4:26he could have cheated. And that.
- 4:27Could have come out of nowhere. I guess he's had some infidelity
- 4:31issues before and so this could have just been a, you know, he
- 4:35went, he went crazy and and she caught him like, or the other
- 4:39way around. Like maybe she cheated and he
- 4:41caught her like I don't. Know when she wrote the book she
- 4:43could have thought like they had this really great marriage so
- 4:46like it's it's hard because I was telling you this like it
- 4:50immediately reminded me of this woman named Rachel Hollis and
- 4:54I'm sure you all just went who. Oh, Rachel Hollis.
- 4:58Yeah, because we got to go back about 10 years to talk about
- 5:02Rachel Hollis. Rachel Hollis was on the cusp of
- 5:06the mommy blogs. So back when like, Internet was
- 5:09kind of fresh and new and people were starting to monetize
- 5:12blogging, she became really popular.
- 5:15So popular that like all of a sudden she was popping up on all
- 5:19the social medias when they started out as like a design
- 5:22expert, a relationship expert, a single gal expert, like a
- 5:26parenting expert. She was like the one stop shop
- 5:29and everybody started looking at her as the next Oprah because
- 5:33she had this very relatable sense and like she was funny and
- 5:37quirky and Oh my gosh. And her husband was cute and
- 5:40they seemed to have a great marriage and they seemed to have
- 5:42a good family and all this stuff.
- 5:43And she started writing all these self help books like
- 5:46here's how I became this self-made millionaire.
- 5:48She had a clothing line on QVC. Like she was like infiltrating
- 5:53everything. Yeah, she was on her way.
- 5:56She was on her way. A billionaire like Oprah, I'm
- 5:58sure. She was like, I mean, 2 steps
- 6:01away from having her own talk show and being like nationally
- 6:04known as this gal. So her and her husband
- 6:07collaborate. They've been doing a podcast for
- 6:09a while at this point. They've been so showing up on
- 6:11social media. Perfect couple.
- 6:13They had also been teaching relationship seminars.
- 6:17So they had been traveling around the country teaching you.
- 6:20You have one relationship like me.
- 6:22Here's how you get it here. Fork over $5000 and we're going
- 6:25to tell you the secret, right? If we ever start teaching
- 6:28marriage. God help us.
- 6:30If we do, then that's the cue that this is ending.
- 6:33Like, if we're ever like, let's just show everybody else.
- 6:35Chapter 1, settle. Chapter 2, cash in.
- 6:38That's pretty much what it is like, no, but like, so they
- 6:41start doing all this stuff, everyone's looking to them.
- 6:43Oh, they're great. So they release a book together.
- 6:46Here's how to have the perfect marriage handbook.
- 6:49Before the book is even out in print, before you can even buy
- 6:53it, they announce their divorce. Yeah.
- 6:56Didn't everyone turn like everyone turned on her right and
- 6:59him like. Everybody turned like it was
- 7:02infuriating because like they had taught a how to have a
- 7:06perfect marriage conference the weekend before the divorce was
- 7:11in there. Remember this?
- 7:12Yeah, and it was like, are you kidding me?
- 7:16And it. Wasn't cheap, right?
- 7:17It was like 5000. No, it was like 5 or $6000 per
- 7:19couple, right? Like this, they were banking it
- 7:22and. We got to get into that I.
- 7:23Know that's what I'm saying. I feel like at the market, but
- 7:27anyways, so like everybody turned.
- 7:30Not only did nobody buy the book, but people turned on her
- 7:34own a way that I've never seen. They didn't turn on the guy,
- 7:37which I think is just like, yeah.
- 7:39Well, he probably wasn't as popular.
- 7:40He wasn't as popular. He wasn't the.
- 7:41One he. Wasn't the face of the brand.
- 7:43He was. The husband of of her.
- 7:45He tried launching a podcast solo afterwards, failed
- 7:48miserably. So he got what was come up in
- 7:50right, but she lost everything. Like everything rags to riches.
- 7:56And like, once in a while I'll see her pop up on a social media
- 8:00being like, hey, I'm a crafter now.
- 8:02Follow me on YouTube and learn how to make this fun wreath for
- 8:05your family. And it's like, Nope.
- 8:07Like you tried to be Oprah. You tried to be like Martha
- 8:12Stewart, Like no one's buying anything.
- 8:14Now you got to get a job, lady, which is unfortunate.
- 8:17Fill out those applications like everybody.
- 8:19Well, it brings up another social media person that I I was
- 8:21recently disappointed by, but I haven't looked more into it.
- 8:25So Jen Hamilton like is is a popular tik toker, right?
- 8:31She does a lot of good. She goes to people's channels
- 8:34and like makes them popular and she seems like a really nice
- 8:37person. She.
- 8:38She donates a ton of money. She's a nurse and when she
- 8:41doesn't even like she could probably go full time on social
- 8:44media because like her followers are enough, but she doesn't and
- 8:47she's she's. A labor and delivery nurse by
- 8:49the. Way So she's like a nurse and
- 8:51you're like, Oh well, of course. And she went on recently and I
- 8:54guess she's getting divorced. From what I can tell, either he
- 8:57died or they're getting he didn't die so they're getting a
- 9:00divorce. But she went on and I, I just
- 9:03don't. Maybe we grew up in the
- 9:05generation before it and that's why.
- 9:07But like, and I hate this. Like she's probably the
- 9:09generation after us, right? Is that what it is?
- 9:11And. She might be.
- 9:13But crying on camera always gives me a bad taste in my
- 9:18mouth. And so she was in the deepest
- 9:20pain of her life getting this divorce and just and crying and
- 9:25she went boop. Let me let me make sure everyone
- 9:28sees this. And there's a couple defenses to
- 9:30this where it's like, I want to show that I'm relatable.
- 9:33Like I want I don't have all the UPS.
- 9:35I'm not all up. There's some downs.
- 9:37I don't want to show you the downs, but for something that
- 9:40happened so immediately, it's like the first or second thought
- 9:45you had was I've got to record this.
- 9:46I hate that. Yeah, and it I should, you
- 9:49should have waited a couple days, you know what I mean?
- 9:52I don't know. And she might have, right.
- 9:53I don't know if it was like super fresh, but yeah.
- 9:56And so it immediately I thought she set up a tripod.
- 10:01She made sure she was in frame, that the lighting was good,
- 10:06right? That she wasn't getting in.
- 10:07She was facing away that like, yeah, can you see me?
- 10:10Is there weird shadows? OK, record and get into Oh yeah,
- 10:15he's leaving me. Oh yeah.
- 10:16And then she's when she's done, she hits the the Stop record.
- 10:21Then she edits it on her phone. She adds music or she adds
- 10:26caption. It was very dramatic music at
- 10:28land, so she. Definitely added music.
- 10:30And then there was a, there was a caption, there was some
- 10:32hashtags and then there was a publish.
- 10:35So this wasn't like an accidental turn my camera on.
- 10:38Oh, I caught it. Let me just throw it up there
- 10:40and be relatable. Like it's a very intentional
- 10:42thing to do. She's not the only one,
- 10:44obviously so many people do this, but I for some reason held
- 10:47her to a higher standard. I don't even watch her that
- 10:49much, but I felt like I was at a meeting.
- 10:52I was like. Had really rubbed me the wrong
- 10:55way as well. And then immediately after it
- 10:58was the reaction videos of people being like, I just want
- 11:01to say like Jen Hamilton, like I love you and I'm here to support
- 11:05you. Like all this parasocial
- 11:06relationship stuff from all these.
- 11:08People, they're all trying to jump on the trend because her
- 11:10name's probably trending because she just got a divorce.
- 11:12And so they're like, oh, I got to make a video so that when
- 11:14people search, they find me and I how sympathetic I am for her
- 11:18gloss. And it's just like, it's
- 11:20everyone's just gross. It's icky like.
- 11:22All the social media. It's just you.
- 11:23And it kind of just reminds you like everybody was icky.
- 11:26Like, I don't know, like even people like Oprah where you like
- 11:30her. Her image isn't squeaky clean
- 11:32anymore anyways. But like back in her heyday, it
- 11:34was like she could do no wrong. And it's like all of those moves
- 11:38were so intentional. Like, she didn't fall into fame.
- 11:41Like, she pushed herself into fame.
- 11:43And that's what like, Jen Hamilton's doing.
- 11:45That's what Rachel Hollis tried to do.
- 11:47And it's just like nobody just became accidental famous.
- 11:51And we want to think that they did because, oh, they're so
- 11:53talented. Or they're also relatable.
- 11:55Especially now it's like it's authentic, it's relatable.
- 11:57It's like, oh, then I all I see is authenticity.
- 11:59This is you just turning the camera on the.
- 12:00Ellen Thing, like the fact that, like, Ellen made a whole career
- 12:04out of like, I'm just like you and I'm super relatable.
- 12:07But behind the scenes, she was a monster.
- 12:09And when people found out it was all an act, it all comes
- 12:12crashing down. And it just, it feels like that
- 12:14with Jen a little bit. Jen Hamilton.
- 12:17Yeah. I like Oh again, I haven't
- 12:18looked at her since that video. That was a couple days ago.
- 12:20I. Think I'm not, I'm not saying
- 12:22anything about her personally, I'm just saying it was a moment
- 12:24where I it took me out and I went.
- 12:26I feel like I saw the entrepreneur behind the camera
- 12:31as opposed to just the regular gal.
- 12:33If you would have waited a a day or so and like addressed me like
- 12:38I'm a friend instead of like it was just straight up crying,
- 12:42saying don't talk to me right now.
- 12:44Like well, then turn the camera off.
- 12:45Like take this moment to grieve and be sad and then come back
- 12:49and be like, hey, guys, because that's how everybody starts.
- 12:52Hey guys, and then explain what happened.
- 12:56Get emotional while you're talking about it.
- 12:57That's fine. I don't care.
- 12:58But to just be already crying and just and no, I don't know.
- 13:02That just bothers me. I know, I don't know, but I'm
- 13:04sure she's still a good person. I'm sure she is.
- 13:06I'm sure this is, but also it's like, if I'm going to be in
- 13:09pain, I might as well monetize it.
- 13:11She probably made $1,000,000 off of this post, like because it's
- 13:14trending everywhere. Like I'm sure she didn't turn
- 13:17off monetization on it. Like heck yeah, she's going to.
- 13:20Get. Millions of.
- 13:21Views. Is that better or worse?
- 13:22I. Don't know, but it's like if I'm
- 13:23in pain indefinitely, if I'm getting divorced, I'm getting
- 13:25some money out especially. If it was his fault.
- 13:27Right. But it you know, she's not the
- 13:30worst. No, no, I've seen women, I'm
- 13:33sorry, but it's women a lot of time like set up the tripod and
- 13:38like lean up against the wall and like crumple and cry down
- 13:42the wall that like, oh God, whatever happened happened.
- 13:46And it's just like you had to set up a tripod for this.
- 13:48You had to make sure that when you slid down the wall, you'd
- 13:50still be in frame and. What if you bumped the camera?
- 13:53Like, do you redo it? You know what?
- 13:54I mean, it's like, did you look afterwards and be like, I can do
- 13:56that better, you know? I mean, it's the same thing with
- 13:59like the people that do like hiking videos.
- 14:02It's like at some point you had, I love them because at some
- 14:05point you had to set the tripod up, walk away from it, and then
- 14:09walk towards the camera like it was your first time seeing
- 14:12everything. And then you had to rush over
- 14:13and turn it off and then edit it.
- 14:15Like it's just, it's so silly that we live in this.
- 14:18World I watch a lot of those videos and it's it's always
- 14:21funny to me because they're so far away from the camera.
- 14:24I'm like that guy's got to he's. Got to buff it like you got to
- 14:27hope nobody's stealing your camera.
- 14:29You see the tripod? They're on a different mountain.
- 14:31You're like, oh man. Yeah, like, oh, I hope you had a
- 14:33buddy that helps them do that, you know?
- 14:35But then that's worse. So you have a cinematographer
- 14:37following you around too, are we?
- 14:38Yeah, maybe we're the only ones that are thinking about just a.
- 14:40Lovely day here in Vancouver, WA on my hike.
- 14:43Yeah, they stumble upon the oh, camera.
- 14:46Oh, hello. Yeah, it's yeah.
- 14:48I and like, I always ask that because it's like, you know, the
- 14:51people that are like eating and they're filming and then
- 14:54somebody walks by and says something racist to them or
- 14:56whatever. It's like, OK, that's awful.
- 14:58But also why were you filming yourself eating?
- 15:01Like how did you just happen to catch that?
- 15:03Like. I think those who were like want
- 15:05to be influenced. But like, whenever I sit down, I
- 15:07don't set up the camera immediately just in case
- 15:10something happens. Like that's what makes me think
- 15:12it's fake. Like that's what makes me think
- 15:14like, oh, you're just, you staged that.
- 15:16Yeah, and one of the telltale signs that I've learned and I
- 15:19there's some research on this that you can tell if it's staged
- 15:22or not is if the camera doesn't move when someone's hurt or if
- 15:25there's something actually surprising.
- 15:27So if the camera is steady and something crazy happens, it was
- 15:31planned. That's your.
- 15:33Well, that makes a lot of sense because I would be like, well, I
- 15:35have my phone right here. Especially with your kid.
- 15:37Like if your kids randomly. Fell I'd be like, Oh my gosh.
- 15:40And I'd run towards them, yeah. You wouldn't sit unless you're a
- 15:43terrible parent. You wouldn't sit there and keep.
- 15:45Holding the camera straight unless you play are you OK?
- 15:48Same with like people that are surprised by anything, like the
- 15:52people I always see it all the time.
- 15:53I'm like, Oh well, the camera didn't move so you're not
- 15:55shocked and. It's.
- 15:56Like, yeah, and that's one of the telltale.
- 15:58Signs. Oh good.
- 15:59To know, as you know, this is 100% authentic and real.
- 16:05Kristen and I have the perfect marriage.

- 17:14watch it? No, I don't watch it afterwards
- 17:1620 times editing it. That's true cuz like there's a
- 17:19lot of edits cuz you I have to leap out all your F words and
