- 0:05Speaker 1: Hi, and welcome back to those lineal Cinophiles with Jordan
- 0:07and Alexis.
- 0:09Speaker 2: This week we watched nineties movies. Oh, a good decade
- 0:13to be in. What movies did we watch?
- 0:15Speaker 3: We watched Airheads and Xenon Girl of the twenty first Century.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Wildly different picks, but just as chaotic.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I say, mm hmm, mine barely makes the nineties mark
- 0:25ninety nine.
- 0:26Speaker 2: I was thinking about that.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I can't wait to hear your release date because I
- 0:29want to know what month.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Well, what did we watch first? Jordan?
- 0:36Speaker 3: We watched Airheads my pick and I hit us with
- 0:40the synopsis. Oh man, yeah, I forgot about that me
- 0:43too until just now. So three guys in a band
- 0:48they want their single to play on a radio station
- 0:53really bad because they haven't gotten any shots, and so
- 0:56they go to a radio station. They accidentally hold them
- 1:00hostage and it turns into this big or deal to
- 1:03get their song played on the radio.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Perfect synopsis. I'll start out with the quick facts. Release
- 1:12date was August fifth, nineteen ninety four. We're right in
- 1:15the middle of the decade. Director was Michael Layman. Distributed
- 1:19by twentieth Century Fox. Budget was fifteen mil box office
- 1:24five million. Ooh, that's bad box office flop, but it
- 1:29became a cult classic at DVD rental store uh huh,
- 1:33rated PG thirteen and it is starring Brendan Frasier, Adam Sandler,
- 1:37and Steve Bushmi. And if you're ready, we can jump
- 1:40right into the movie.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So the movie starts. We get our intro credits. Me personally,
- 1:45I thought they were very good. Intra credits, we get
- 1:47the song Born to Raise Hell.
- 1:49Speaker 3: They're fine. I didn't skip them.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yes, that's how you know it's really good, guys. And
- 1:53then we are immediately introduced to the radio host Ian.
- 1:57I didn't write this down, but I think it's Ian.
- 1:59The Hawk is is like radio Moniker, and he's just
- 2:02talking on the radio a little bit. And then from
- 2:04there we get Chaz, who is walking through the radio station.
- 2:09He's being recognized by employees immediately, and you can already
- 2:12tell they don't like him. They're like, it's that guy
- 2:14in the delivery man costume.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Get rid of them.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And so he takes this demo to this music executive Jimmy,
- 2:23and he's like, listen, I need you to play. This
- 2:26gets so good, and he basically like turns them down immediately,
- 2:28he's like, you're gonna be like every other band ever.
- 2:30Speaker 2: We're not gonna do it.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You're not even sposed feed back here, get out, and
- 2:33so he gets kicked out of the radio station. The
- 2:36next thing we see is Chas at his apartment and
- 2:38his girlfriend's just getting home from work. He's being a bum,
- 2:41laying on the couch watching TV. She's had a bad
- 2:44day at work, and he's pretty immediately not a good boyfriend.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Didn't pay the rent.
- 2:49Speaker 1: He ruined her makeup on purpose also, which is crazy.
- 2:53Demeans her job whenever she's complaining about it, and then
- 2:56she ends up kicking him out because she's like, you suck.
- 2:58Your band is nothing, just the bomb, but you're not
- 3:01doing anything to help me. And he's pretty mad about it,
- 3:04but he's like, fine, I'm leaving.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I love her. Yeah, she's an icon, so pretty and
- 3:10a queen. It's so pretty. I want to be her.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Her hair, oh my god, don't even get me
- 3:16started on her hair.
- 3:17Speaker 3: M m.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So he moves in with his two bandmates, Pip and Rex,
- 3:21And it wasn't until this rewatch that I realized that
- 3:23they're brothers. I just did not pay attention.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Oh to those few little one.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Liners where they mentioned that that's funny. Their apartment is
- 3:30messy and gross.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I would not want to live there at all.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And you can tell that they do band practice there
- 3:35because that's their living room setup is the drums and
- 3:38the guitars, and the boys are wasting money on stupid things,
- 3:41one of these things being squirt guns that look like
- 3:45real guns, and we'll come back to those. I should
- 3:49also say the name of their band is the Lone Rangers,
- 3:53and that's gonna prove to be a problem for their band.
- 3:56The next we see of Ian, he is at a
- 3:59record release part for some new band called Sons of Thunder,
- 4:02And while he's prepping them up for the media and
- 4:05being like, yeah, this is the big new band, he
- 4:08is not a fan. He thinks that they sound like
- 4:10every other little rock band that's trying to make it.
- 4:12But he's just doing his job and he's like whatever, fine,
- 4:15And we're seeing some tension between him and some of
- 4:18the other little executives at the radio station. So the
- 4:22Lone Rangers have a plan to break into the radio
- 4:25station and play their single.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Pip's card to get in.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Somehow, it was his bank card, yeah, like a debit card.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that gets confiscated because they can't get in using that.
- 4:36But they eventually end up getting in because a girl
- 4:38like hits Pip when she opens the door mm hmm.
- 4:41Speaker 3: She wasn't expecting them, was not expecting them, and.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They were able to use that opportunity to allow them
- 4:47away inside of the station, and they successfully find Ian.
- 4:51He's in the sound, but he's on air whenever they
- 4:53get there, and they kind of sound dumb while they're
- 4:56confronting him. They don't realize they're on air.
- 4:58Speaker 2: That was fun, That was fine.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I was glad he didn't say anything like too bad
- 5:02at that part too, though.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It was like the perfect amount of like embarrassing for
- 5:06the band mm hmm. And it's mostly just second embarrassment
- 5:09of like, oh, these dudes do not realize that we
- 5:11can hear everything they're saying, and like they're being trashed
- 5:14right now.
- 5:15Speaker 3: At first, I was confused because I didn't realize it
- 5:17was on air. I thought it was just being projected
- 5:19to the rest of the radio station, Oh, like an intercom, Yeah,
- 5:23And I was like, why is he doing that? And
- 5:25then I realized it was on the radio.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Well, while they're on air, another executive starts insulting Rex,
- 5:32and he took that very personally, and so he brought
- 5:36some of these toy guns with him to the radio
- 5:38station and decides, I'm gonna pull it out, threaten them
- 5:41and make them play our tape, and so they look
- 5:45like real guns. So obviously these men believe that they
- 5:48are being held hostage and threatened right now, and they're like,
- 5:50all we gotta do is play the tape.
- 5:51Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Unfortunately, they did not bring the right kind of tape,
- 5:56and so they take it to one of the workers
- 5:57to like fix it up and make it to where
- 5:59it's like a play because it has to be a
- 6:01cassette tape. I'm not sure what kind of tape they brought,
- 6:03but not the right one.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I don't want to call it an eight track, but
- 6:06it was like giant They had it into like a
- 6:09huge VCR sized box.
- 6:12Speaker 2: It might have been an eight track, was it? I
- 6:15don't know.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'd have to look it up because I know eight
- 6:17tracks can't be played on like a regular cassette player.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Mmmm mmm. I didn't even think about that.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And this is also whenever we meet Doug Beach, who
- 6:25is an executive and he hides in a storage closet
- 6:30once he hears what is happening as the others are
- 6:33rounded up to be taken hostage.
- 6:35Speaker 2: In this radio station, m the demo.
- 6:38Speaker 1: It gets fried. Once they finally get it ready to play,
- 6:40it doesn't work. It like burns up.
- 6:42Speaker 2: The tape's dead, so they try to flee.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But once they make it outside, they realize they are
- 6:47surrounded by cops, and then they think that maybe the
- 6:50cops aren't there for them, silly, and since they can't
- 6:54get to their van, they decide, Okay, we're going all in.
- 6:57We're taking everyone hostage. We're gonna gather them up, make
- 7:00it to where we can see all of them. And
- 7:02then the cops surround the station and they begin negotiation,
- 7:05and the person in the station who's communicating with the
- 7:08cops for the band is Ian, and the band is
- 7:11beginning to panic. They don't know what to do, so
- 7:13Ian is trying to convince them to like let them go,
- 7:16but Chazz decides they got to try and get a
- 7:19new tape. There's another way to get a tape. They're
- 7:21already holding people hostage, might as well. They got to
- 7:24get that single played mm, and so he's like, somebody
- 7:29needs to get in contact with my girlfriend, Kayla, who
- 7:31just broke up with me. Meanwhile, we see Kayla listening to
- 7:35the tape in her car and an anger tosses that
- 7:38tape onto the street.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like, I don't want this anymore. I want
- 7:42to mention.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I saw how her name was spelled in letterbox, but
- 7:46she looks like it would be spelled c ae La,
- 7:50and so that's how I wrote it down every time
- 7:52I mentioned her.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I've never met a Kayla in my life that spells
- 7:58it like that.
- 7:58Speaker 2: That is me either, but that's she gives.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Oh my god, did you just think that up on
- 8:05your own or have you met somebody who spells klo
- 8:06like that?
- 8:08Speaker 3: I just thought that because she looks so cool, So
- 8:11she needed a cool way to spell her name.
- 8:13Speaker 2: That's so funny. She should have a cool way. Though.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Now this has started to become a media circus. There
- 8:20is a crowd that is beginning to gather outside of
- 8:22the radio station. Civilians are really enjoying this. They find
- 8:25this funny. They think it's cool.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 8:28Speaker 1: They don't really take this incident seriously, which as they shouldn't.
- 8:31But Chaz does try to go outside to talk to
- 8:34the cops a little bit, but then freaks out when
- 8:36they immediately target him, and then he says like, yo,
- 8:40go to my girlfriend find the tape, and then like
- 8:43that'll be fine, and then because of that, they released
- 8:46a hostage in good faith.
- 8:47Speaker 2: M hm.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Back to our friend Doug Beach. At this point, he
- 8:51has found his way through the air vents in the
- 8:54radio station, so he is spying a little bit on
- 8:57things that are going around. He's also freaking out, not
- 8:59how a good time, and he doesn't quite know what
- 9:02to do, but he's gathering intel. M m.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Things keep going wrong for him up there. Yes, I
- 9:08like when movies have that kind of subplot too.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It's funny.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yes, and this was a good one to have because,
- 9:15as we'll see later in the movie, he provides a
- 9:18good in for the cops.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it makes sense that they know what's going on now.
- 9:22M hm.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Pip is not good at being a criminal. I
- 9:26will say the entire time, he has been the one
- 9:28most against this endeavor.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But Rex decides he needs to give him a lesson
- 9:33because I think her name's Yvonne is the girl that
- 9:36they let go, and he's like, I'm gonna miss Yvonne.
- 9:39And he's like, no, stop talking to these people, stop
- 9:42making attachments, and so he kind of plays out how
- 9:45he should be acting and then he makes Pip do
- 9:47the same, but it is not until he's freaking out
- 9:51and then Pip follows that. Doug witnesses the scene, so
- 9:54he thinks that Rex and Pip are like being horrible
- 9:57to hostages, that they're screaming and threatening with the guns,
- 9:59because all he can see are Rex and Pep. But
- 10:02it's just them acting to get better. The situation is
- 10:07very much growing out of control. At this point, more
- 10:09cops are showing up. They're trying to take over the
- 10:11crime scene. It's not SWAT, but it is a higher
- 10:15level of cop.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, like state police or something. Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 1: The main cop that was in charge, who is doing
- 10:21the negotiating and talking to everybody, he is being bumped down.
- 10:25It is no longer his crime scene, even though, like
- 10:27really it is just because this other cop is not
- 10:29helpful at all. The new cop that comes in to
- 10:32take over, a phone call comes from out of the station.
- 10:34It's Doug and so he's talking to Doug, and he's like,
- 10:37what's your deal?
- 10:37Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 10:38Speaker 1: And he says, listen, I'm in the Vince, what do
- 10:41you want me to do? I want to get out
- 10:42of here. There's some miscommunications Sucker that makes him think
- 10:45that Doug is a marine, and so he says, you
- 10:49are my.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Man on the inside now.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But what really ends up happening with these two is
- 10:53we just get a lot of family gossip between the
- 10:55cop and I get Doug as he's trying to tell
- 10:57him what's happening. And now the boy are beginning to
- 11:00have a lot of fun with it. They're kind of
- 11:01getting comfortable there. Now they're playing songs on the radio station.
- 11:05They're having ian DJing. They're like, we might as well
- 11:08keep the music going, you know, going through the merch. Yeah,
- 11:12we get a little montage with them just having a
- 11:14good time, and Pip is really getting along with one
- 11:19of the girls who works at the station. I think
- 11:21she's just like an assistant.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Answers the phones.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And now outside of the radio station, news vans are
- 11:27arriving to take over and cover the story. The cops
- 11:30are really upset about this. They don't want them there,
- 11:32but they can't stop them. So Pip and Susie while
- 11:36they're connecting, Chaz and Rex are hanging out with Ian
- 11:38and Milo. Milo is another one of the executives, and
- 11:41they're talking about modern rock and roll. They're talking about
- 11:44how like music is changing. Ian is starting to get
- 11:46cool with these guys. He's like, oh, I'm having good conversations.
- 11:49I appreciate, like what's happening. It's fine. And the cops,
- 11:54Officer Wilson, is the one who has been sent to
- 11:57search for Kayla, so he is running around this I
- 12:00think he was told to go to the strip to
- 12:02look for her, and he's just keeping an eye out
- 12:04for her, going into clubs, checking it out. And Ian
- 12:07finds out that the radio station is changing formats from
- 12:11rock and roll to soft rock, and the entire station
- 12:15is about to be restaffed, and the only person that
- 12:17knew about this was the other executive Milo.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Ian is not happy about this, guys mm hmm. So
- 12:23there's a big old fight. Ian and Milo have it out.
- 12:26Speaker 1: They end up tying him up to a chair because
- 12:28they're like, this guy sucks. He's about to change our
- 12:30favorite radio station. We don't like him. And Ian's like,
- 12:34if I'm gonna lose my job anyways, I might as
- 12:36well get in on all this and like have a
- 12:38last hoo row. And then Officer Wilson finds Kayla. She's
- 12:43at a club and he's like, you got to get
- 12:45down there. You got to take the tape to them,
- 12:47and she's like.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I'm not gonna do that.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I hate them, blah blah blah blah. She says that
- 12:50she's not gonna get the tape. She's like, fuck you,
- 12:52I'm not gonna tell you where it's ad. I'm not
- 12:53going to give it to him, it doesn't matter. But
- 12:55then she hears Chaz on the radio station talking about her,
- 12:58and then she goes and she gets it's the tape,
- 13:00which is in rough shape. At this point, it's been
- 13:02ran over, it's been stepped.
- 13:04Speaker 2: On, peed on, peede on.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It's a lot has happened to this tape, which we've
- 13:08just seen in little snippets throughout the movie, and the
- 13:11Big Bad Cop has figured out that Chaz's real name
- 13:14is Chester, and he has also found his high school
- 13:16yearbook picture, so he is storing some information to use.
- 13:21Speaker 2: For later mm hmm.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Ian fully embracing the takeover now he's having such a
- 13:25great time, but the power is cut from the station,
- 13:29and they try to tempt the band out with an
- 13:32executive that they've sent to talk to him, but the
- 13:35band immediately sesses out that he is a cop.
- 13:37Speaker 2: He is not a real executive. He has opinions. That
- 13:40was funny.
- 13:41Speaker 1: There were a lot of letterbox reviews of I guess
- 13:43people who are rock and roll fans that were like,
- 13:45that was the best scene in the whole movie. Mm hmm,
- 13:47And I thought that was really funny. Chas goes out
- 13:50he's trying to get the power turned back on. They're like,
- 13:52we are not going to turn the power back on.
- 13:54But at this point, the entire crowd is like supporting
- 13:57this band and what they're doing, and so they kind
- 14:00of turn into a little bit of like a mob
- 14:02and they start chanting Rodney King, and the cops agree
- 14:05to bring the back the power because they're like, we
- 14:07are severely outnumbered with these civilians. We're not prepped for
- 14:10an angry mob. We're just gonna do it. It'll be fine.
- 14:13Speaker 3: They're even doing all of their requests, the things that
- 14:17they wrote down to claim insanity. It's filling the helmet
- 14:20with cottage.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Cheese getting a giant baby bottle. Yeah, that was funny.
- 14:25Speaker 1: The cops have been trying to fulfill a lot of
- 14:28requests that the band has been putting in, and the
- 14:31band has been asking for crazy things, and it gives
- 14:33to the point where the band is like.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Are we not going crazy enough? Like Ye're giving us everything.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But it is at this point whenever the original cop
- 14:43agrees to turn the power back on that the big
- 14:45bad cop is like, no, no, no, we're not gonna
- 14:48do that.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Do you want to know why?
- 14:49Speaker 1: Because this guy isn't real rock and roll. His name
- 14:51is Chester and he was a nerd and like this
- 14:55is his picture and he basically just.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Reveals like he's a poser.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Yeah, so yes, it was given any white I'm a dork.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I literally was a nerd, thinking the same exact thing.
- 15:11Because the crowd does, they all begin to confess their nerdisms.
- 15:14Speaker 2: They're like, no, I'm a nerd too, It's fine.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I used to wear corduroy pants and I used to
- 15:19do this, and I used to do that, and so yeah,
- 15:22they just like all come together and they're like, you
- 15:24have to do it.
- 15:24Speaker 2: You have to turn the power back on and This.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Is when Kayla reunites with Chaz and then she runs
- 15:29into the radio station with them.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Once she gives the tape to them, the band is
- 15:34mad because they're like, what happened to this tape?
- 15:37Speaker 2: Kayla?
- 15:38Speaker 1: And then her and Chaz have a little bit of
- 15:39a fight and they ruined the radio board, which is
- 15:42actually I can't believe they did that. That's a big
- 15:44expensive thing to break.
- 15:46Speaker 2: But whatever.
- 15:46Speaker 1: After their big fight, they do make up, and then
- 15:49we see Milo has escaped his storage closet and an
- 15:53escaped Tint and it is revealed to him that the
- 15:55guns are plastic, They're not real guns. Also, the guns
- 15:59are filled with hot sauce. I feel like I should
- 16:00say they spray people in the eyes with them. Our
- 16:03friend mister Beach has found his time. He's gonna get him.
- 16:07He's gonna free everybody.
- 16:08Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 16:09Speaker 1: But whenever he drops from the air vents, he drops
- 16:12the gun, it goes off in a panic. Everyone ducks
- 16:16the outside thinks the shooting is coming from inside. Inside
- 16:18thinks the shooting is coming from outside. And then Jimmy
- 16:22shows up, the first executive that they went to, and
- 16:25Jimmy wants to sign a contract deal with them. He's like, hey,
- 16:28I am so into this. You've created such a scene
- 16:30about this. I think we can make something work. But
- 16:32Chaz is like, so saus He's like, I don't know
- 16:35what's going on. You didn't want to sign us before.
- 16:38You haven't even heard our single yet?
- 16:40Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 16:41Speaker 1: And Milo is like, you guys should untime me and
- 16:45let me negotiate you for percentage because he's gonna try
- 16:47and rip you guys off. And they're like, we don't
- 16:49really know if we want to do that. But Ian
- 16:51is like, no, you should let him do it. But
- 16:53instead of ten percent, you're gonna give him five percent
- 16:56mm hmm, and he's not gonna be a little bitch. Basically,
- 16:59mylo negotiates for them. They end up making a deal,
- 17:01but right as they are about to sign, Chaz is like, wait, dude,
- 17:05you still haven't heard our single. What do you mean
- 17:08that you're interested in this? And they're like, we don't
- 17:10need to hear it, because like you guys as a unit,
- 17:13we like you guys, the vibe you're bringing, the energy,
- 17:15And so Chaz.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Is like, no, that's bullshit.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, my music is the most important thing ever to me,
- 17:21you have to like my music. And so Jimmy gives
- 17:25new demands to the cops and.
- 17:27Speaker 2: They have an entire stage delivered.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Basically, the Lone Rangers can perform live and they can
- 17:35make a music video and that's gonna be their first
- 17:38hit basically. So they're super pumped about this. They like,
- 17:41fly this in on a helicopter. It's so funny, it's
- 17:44so like unbelievable.
- 17:45Speaker 2: So they fly in everything. It's super cool.
- 17:47Speaker 1: This crowd is pumped for it, and they get up
- 17:50there to start performing, but none of the amps are connected,
- 17:54so they're like, what the hell is happening. And then
- 17:57Jimmy and my lower are like, oh, you're gonna lip
- 17:58sync it well added up and post and they're like,
- 18:02we're not lip syncing. This is the thing they took
- 18:05most personal of the entire movie.
- 18:07Speaker 2: They're like, we're not lip syncing. Yeah, they're real musicians,
- 18:10real artists.
- 18:11Speaker 1: So they refuse to lip sync and they just start
- 18:14smashing up the stage. They start raging, and the crowd
- 18:16loves it. They're all in the audience like yeah, like
- 18:19this is so great. The next we see of them,
- 18:22they're performing in prison.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And is there. He is their manager.
- 18:27Speaker 1: We are learning that they'll probably be out in three
- 18:29to six months based on behavior, and they're already lining
- 18:32up tour d eights deals. They've got good things going
- 18:36on for them.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I like that the girls were they're dancing. Also, I
- 18:41behind a fence.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I really like whenever Steve Mashini's hip thrusting the guitar
- 18:47and Pip is like.
- 18:48Speaker 2: What are you doing?
- 18:50Speaker 1: And he's like what the crowd see all the men
- 18:52and he's like mm hmm, maybe I should stop. But
- 18:57once the credits roll, we learned that they served three months.
- 19:00Their first album was Live in Prison, and it went
- 19:03platinum three times, so they were a very successful band
- 19:07after that.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I liked that Ian was the manager.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I loved that.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Oh my god, when they were getting all buddy buddy
- 19:15in the studio, I was like, they're gonna connect.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 1: That was watching Ian slowly be like, yeah, this is
- 19:23actually the right decision was my favorite part of the
- 19:25whole thing.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I love the movie and that's Airheads. I really liked it.
- 19:32Yeah you gave it four stars. Yeah.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I don't remember my review, but I thought it was
- 19:39really funny.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yours was something about a lot of one liners.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think this is the first time that
- 19:46your rating is higher than my rating.
- 19:48Speaker 2: For my band.
- 19:50Speaker 3: I know, when I first went on there, I was
- 19:51like three and a half, and then I was like,
- 19:53surely when she rewatches it, she'll give it higher, And
- 19:55then you did it.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It's definitely, in my opinion, a three and a half
- 20:00positive movie.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I love the movie.
- 20:02Speaker 1: It's so good, it's so funny, but in the last
- 20:06third of it, so much is happening that like you
- 20:09can't really keep track of it all. Especially when I
- 20:12was taking notes, I was like, I'm taking notes and
- 20:14not having trouble keeping track of some things. There's just
- 20:17a lot of little side plots going on, which all
- 20:20of them are so funny, but a couple of them
- 20:22could have been cut a little bit, and it's just
- 20:24a stoner movie, you know, like it's not god that
- 20:26much going, but it's so funny. Uh it's yeah, the
- 20:30cast stacked mm hmm obsessed.
- 20:33Speaker 3: One of the one liners I was thinking about when
- 20:35I wrote my review was when they were just told
- 20:38that they were all gonna be fired, and the girl
- 20:41what's her name, Susan, Susie, Susie.
- 20:43Speaker 2: She's like, oh, those blow jobs. It was so funny.
- 20:49Speaker 1: It's like, Conic, I love you whenever her and Pip
- 20:52are hooking up in Milo's office when he's tied up
- 20:56and he goes in there and she's like.
- 20:57Speaker 2: You should knock first. He was like what, Yeah, so funny.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Also the running bit that Pip gets a lot of
- 21:06ladies so funny.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Well that will bring me into the things that I
- 21:10wrote down perfect Pip crop top.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Adam Sandler. That was awesome. This is the hottest Adam
- 21:17Sandler has ever been.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Yeah, though he does not give rock vibes to me.
- 21:22That was my only issue. I was like, I can't
- 21:25see him in a rock band.
- 21:27Speaker 2: That's a valid call to make. I can agree with that.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Mm hmm. And then I have Kayla. She looks like
- 21:32Whitney Carson from Dancing.
- 21:34Speaker 2: With the Stars. Oh, I could see that a little bit.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I actually, very beginning like pulled up the cast because
- 21:40I thought that she looked like I don't know the
- 21:41actress's name.
- 21:42Speaker 2: She's in scrubs.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'll show you a picture later, but there's an actress
- 21:46in scrubs. It's like the one of the main actress,
- 21:47the one that Zach braf dates in the show, mm hmm,
- 21:50and I was like, Oh, is that like her young young?
- 21:53Speaker 2: But no, it wasn't. She didn't have many other movies.
- 21:56I was kind of bummed to see because she's good.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Yeah, all the people coming to watch what was happening
- 22:01outside the radio station would totally happen in real life.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, that was so viral. People will be obsessed
- 22:08with that.
- 22:09Speaker 3: M M.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I feel like if it happened in a city like
- 22:11New Orleans as well, this would be the city for
- 22:13something like that to happen. We as a community would
- 22:16be obsessed.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Is that the guy from SVU, I couldn't place like
- 22:23what I've seen him in. And I was like, he's
- 22:25in some kind of cop show criminal Minds? Is it
- 22:29Criminal mind for Ian?
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll talk about that a little bit more in
- 22:34my segment.
- 22:36Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 22:37Speaker 3: And then I wrote down in the credits, like all
- 22:40these people's names that kept popping up that I didn't
- 22:42know was in this movie, like John Nelson and David Arquette,
- 22:45And I was like, this is the earliest thing David
- 22:47Arquette that I've seen him in.
- 22:49Speaker 1: That's so funny because that perfectly transitions into my segment. Okay,
- 22:57so my segment iconic actor I forgot we're in this movie.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 1: The first one ian Joe Montagna, I think is how
- 23:08you say his name.
- 23:08Speaker 2: He's in Criminal Minds. He's in a few other movies.
- 23:11Speaker 1: He plays Agent Rossy and Criminal Minds and for those
- 23:13of you who don't know, I love Criminal Minds and
- 23:17he's just an icon and a king. So funny. My
- 23:20next one Doug Beach. Do you recognize him at all?
- 23:23Speaker 3: That was the guy in the events mm hmmmm mm.
- 23:26Speaker 1: That is Michael Richards. He plays Kramer and Seinfeld.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, okay, I can kind of picture them.
- 23:34Speaker 1: As soon as I saw him, I was like, I
- 23:36know what my segment's gonna be. So I was like,
- 23:38I think there's a lot more Jimmy Wing. That's Judd
- 23:41Nelson eighties brat Pack. We all know Judd Nelson.
- 23:44Speaker 3: It took like twenty minutes into the movie and I
- 23:47was like, wait, jud Nelson's supposed to be in this
- 23:49I did not clock him as that first executive they talked.
- 23:52Speaker 2: To, that sneaky little soul patch. Yeah, it like changes
- 23:57his face. David Arquette as radio station worker.
- 24:02Speaker 1: He was just like a little stoner that worked there.
- 24:04The frosted tips were excellent on him.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Our og cop who was doing the negotiations, that was
- 24:10Ernie Hudson.
- 24:12Speaker 2: He was a Ghostbuster mm hmm.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Our other cop of SNL fame we have Chris Farley.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I wondered if Adam was like, Hey, you should hire
- 24:21my buddy, or if they just like both randomly got
- 24:24hired for this movie.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I feel like he probably campaigned for him a little bit.
- 24:29I wonder how much he had, like the creation of
- 24:32this movie. I don't know how early Adam Sandler was
- 24:34making his own movies.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 24:36Speaker 1: If this is too early, well, I don't know. I
- 24:38feel like he was pretty early. And then I have
- 24:40one more surprise actor, which was very funny to me
- 24:44because once I saw Ernie Hudson, I.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Was like, is there another Ghostbuster in this? And there is.
- 24:50Speaker 1: It's Harold Ramus and he is egone in the Ghostbusters
- 24:55and he plays the executive who is actually the cop
- 24:58who was sent up to the front door to negotiate
- 25:00and be like, Oh, we're gonna give you a record deal, but.
- 25:03Speaker 2: He's not actually an executive.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Okay, So I saw Letterbox reviews, being like, there are
- 25:08two Ghostbusters in this and I was like two, I
- 25:10only knew one two Ghostbusters.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Uh, that's sunny good. I love a stacked cast.
- 25:16Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite things in the world, especially
- 25:18when I don't remember because I think it's been two
- 25:20years since I've watched this movie.
- 25:22Speaker 2: The first time I watched it.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I think was in college. Because it's not streaming anywhere.
- 25:27You can't even rent it on Prime. I don't know
- 25:28what's going on with that, but like the first Canyon rent,
- 25:31it does not exist. Oh but if you google it,
- 25:34people are like Airheads is being erased from existence.
- 25:37Speaker 2: But I don't think that's true.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I think the contracts run up and then like I think, whoever,
- 25:42I guess twentieth century Fox, whoever holds those contracts, is
- 25:45like iffy about it because whenever I watched it for
- 25:47the first time in college, it hadn't been on streaming
- 25:49in forever. And the reason I watched it was because
- 25:51I saw on social media that people were like Airheads
- 25:54is back, and then I was like, oh, I've been
- 25:56wanting to watch that, and I ended up watching it.
- 25:58But did you have any other thoughts you wanted to
- 26:00discuss on the movie.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 26:01Speaker 3: I thought it was like a really good just like
- 26:03put it on in the background. Not much brain thought
- 26:06has to go into this movie.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I really like that. Yeah, it was fun. I can
- 26:10just watch it and enjoy. I want to.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Watch Airheads high. I feel like it is a stoner movie.
- 26:15I do need to watch it high at some point
- 26:16mm hmm. I'll probably appreciate it at a much different
- 26:19level at that point.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I think it's a classic, definitely a cult classic. I
- 26:23can't believe it did.
- 26:24Speaker 2: That bad in the box office. Yeah, thank god for
- 26:27video rental stores. Your movies never do bad too. I
- 26:30know I've got good taste. Letterbox to then, Yeah, Letterbox.
- 26:40Speaker 1: We've got a guy coming back. We haven't heard from
- 26:42him in.
- 26:43Speaker 2: A while, in so long. Oh my god.
- 26:47Speaker 1: For Airheads we have and ed sheeran review. Let's hear
- 26:50it four stars. He said, great cast and a really
- 26:54good mongout comedy.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Mongout is that a stoner thing? Or is that a
- 27:00British word for something?
- 27:01Speaker 1: British slang for becoming lazy, tired, or dazed, often while intoxicated.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Okay.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Mong is also used as derogatory offensive slur.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Oh maybe not that one.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not what we're saying. So I think it's
- 27:16just like a vegging movie, like your veging on the
- 27:18couch chilling.
- 27:20Speaker 2: It absolutely is.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's exactly a bedtime movie, scrolling on the phone movie,
- 27:26perfect for that.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, I'd cheer in. That was so nice to
- 27:29hear from him. Yeah, it's been so long.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I don't even know what our last one would have been,
- 27:34like Ghostbusters or something. Maybe my first one. SoundCloud rappers
- 27:39need to try this shit.
- 27:42Speaker 2: They should my first one, hottest SNL movie. Ooh, that's good.
- 27:51Speaker 3: I'm surprised it wasn't produced by Lord Michaels. He's got
- 27:54a lot of sneaky things too, and this is right.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Up his alley.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Maybe like an executive producer. Maybe love to watch the
- 28:01credits or something. My second one, mythical blunt rotation.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Real.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Oh my god, I'm so sad I didn't get that one.
- 28:13They gave it three stars. They get it, they get it.
- 28:18Speaker 1: My second one, my favorite one liner in the movie,
- 28:20I don't want to go to jail.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I'm fragile.
- 28:24Speaker 3: I liked his character. It was very innocent and yeah, silly.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I think my.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Review was one of his quotes. M I think it
- 28:31was the I don't want anything. I just don't want
- 28:33to go to prison.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Whenever they were writing the list of stuff.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Hm, my last one me and the girls on a
- 28:39Tuesday night.
- 28:43Speaker 2: That's a good one.
- 28:45Speaker 1: My last one is the hair, the slutty crop tops,
- 28:48the himbos.
- 28:49Speaker 2: What else could you want?
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that was good. There are a lot of reviews
- 28:53of the three guys. I didn't think Steve Buscemi was
- 28:56that attractive in this, and he kind of scares me.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Steve Ashimi is one of my hear me out, I
- 29:02will confess, but he is a greasy little ratin Yeah,
- 29:09he is the long, greasy hair, he's scrawny, like the
- 29:14facial hair is kind of not doing it. I understand
- 29:16that is some people's types, and I respect it is
- 29:19all yours, but not conventionally mini segment here at the end.
- 29:27If I were to go for one, it probably would.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Have been Adam Sandler. If I had been hanging around
- 29:31those guys, I'd have been like, yeah, I'd been one
- 29:34of his girls that was falling for.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Him and being like, yeah, okay, I would be in
- 29:39his league. But like Brendan Frasier.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I love him. His long hair is good. I'm not
- 29:45in his league, though, No, you are, Jordan. You would
- 29:49think you're so cool. I'd let Kayla have him. Yeah,
- 29:52this is the only thing.
- 29:53Speaker 1: That would suck is that Kayla would be his ex,
- 29:55and like, having to compare yourself to Kayla would suck
- 29:57all the time.
- 29:59Speaker 2: She was cool. Yeah, but that's airheads.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Yay.
- 30:08Speaker 2: What movie did we watch next, Jordan?
- 30:11Speaker 3: We watched Xenon, Girl of the twenty first Century.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Woo take a forward in Time?
- 30:19Speaker 3: Mm hmmm, which twenty first century doesn't feel like it
- 30:22would be like that crazy back.
- 30:24Speaker 2: In ninety nine, but no, give me the synopsis.
- 30:27Speaker 1: The synopsis is, there's this girl and her name is Xenon,
- 30:31and she lives in like this space station that is
- 30:35orbiting Earth with a bunch of other people scientists stuff.
- 30:39Speaker 2: But there's also a bunch of kids her age. It's
- 30:40like a little community.
- 30:42Speaker 1: And she gets in trouble and so she is sent
- 30:45to Earth. But what the people on the space station
- 30:48don't know is that their lives are in danger, and
- 30:50she is the only one who knows anything about how
- 30:52to fix that, and so she has to get back up.
- 30:54Speaker 2: There and save all of their lives.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, with my facts now Yes. Released January twenty third,
- 31:04nineteen ninety nine.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Fresh ninety nine. Okay, okay, yep on Disney Channel.
- 31:09Speaker 3: So we have another d com. I don't know what
- 31:11our last d com was, though it was a while.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I think it was the Halloween one.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Oh Girl Versus Monster Dang that was a while ago.
- 31:21It's written by Stu Krieger and directed by Kenneth Johnson,
- 31:25and it's also based on the book of the same name.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I did not know that. Maybe I did.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Every time I watch it, I'm like, oh, yeah, it's
- 31:32based on a book, but I totally forgot that.
- 31:35Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 31:36Speaker 3: It stars Kirsten Storms, Raven Simone, Stuart Penkin, Holly Fulger,
- 31:42and I'm gonna add Protozoa because I love him. Philip Reese,
- 31:47Yes and rated G and no budget or box office
- 31:51I could find because it was released right on Disney Channel, but.
- 31:55Speaker 2: It would have been stellar. M good one. Should we
- 32:02get into it. Let's dive in.
- 32:04Speaker 3: Okay, we start off. It's Monday, April eighteenth, twenty forty nine.
- 32:09I fact checked that will be a Sunday, not Monday.
- 32:13They weren't keeping track of leap years, I guess not
- 32:16for this movie. And xenon'sweaking up for school though she
- 32:20is late, which I think happens a lot, so she
- 32:23has to kind of make her way through the space
- 32:26station where she lives in her parents' work. She's been
- 32:29there since she was five. She was born on Earth,
- 32:31but now she's up there with them.
- 32:33Speaker 2: She's thirteen. By the way.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I don't know if you caught them in class with
- 32:37the teacher said that Chelsea Clinton was the president.
- 32:40Speaker 2: I literally wrote a note about that. That was so funny.
- 32:43That was so funny. I said Clinton ref lmao.
- 32:47Speaker 1: And then I went Chelsea Clinton because I realized it's
- 32:51the daughter.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:54Speaker 3: I was like, would the parents even be alive?
- 32:57Speaker 2: And forty nine? That was so funny. I cackled.
- 33:00Speaker 1: And then I was like this, you have a daughter
- 33:01named Chelsea Clinton? Or did they like make her up?
- 33:04It's like, I don't know what fun that.
- 33:06Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 33:07Speaker 3: I have no idea who their kids are. I think
- 33:10they just have a daughter just her. Oh okay, And
- 33:13so you kind of see them in their classroom, but
- 33:16you find out that Mike Robe, their band on Earth.
- 33:21They are coming to the space station to perform the
- 33:23first rock concert in space, and there's gonna be a
- 33:27contest for all the people up there, so whoever wins
- 33:30they get to dance on stage with him. I was
- 33:33kind of unclear on what you actually had to do
- 33:35to enter the contest, because like she made a replica
- 33:38of him, but Nebula wrote something and so you just
- 33:42entered however you wanted to enter.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I guess yeah, did what you could. Also. Protozoa is
- 33:48her celebrity crush.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Yes, I'm gonna call them a boy band even though
- 33:52they're a rock band.
- 33:54Speaker 1: They're for sure a boy band. We saw how those
- 33:56girls were reacting to them.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 33:59Speaker 2: It's like five soft boy band, Uh huh.
- 34:02Speaker 3: We also find out later that day that the man
- 34:05who funds this space station up there, Wyndham, he is
- 34:08coming up to the space station on Friday to just
- 34:12like check on things and see if he's gonna give
- 34:14them more funding. And everyone's like, xenon, you better be
- 34:17on your best behavior, girl, because she gets into trouble,
- 34:20she does whatever she wants to do.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Yeah, she was kind of a little brat, but not
- 34:24the worst brat. I've ever seen. Mm hmm.
- 34:27Speaker 3: And so next day, a couple days, there's this big
- 34:31thing happening in space with lights and stuff, and Xenon's like, hey, friends,
- 34:35let's get up at four in the morning.
- 34:36Speaker 2: We're gonna go check this out.
- 34:38Speaker 3: And so they sneak down because one of her friends
- 34:40has all the codes Dolly things because his dad works
- 34:43in there. And so she gets the idea that she's
- 34:45gonna go out in a space suit so she can
- 34:47be out there in space looking at it.
- 34:49Speaker 2: But she gets caught.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Her dad catches her, she gets in trouble, and I
- 34:53think she gets gomded here as well. And so Wyndham arrives.
- 34:57Her parents are tasked with showing him around. She meets him,
- 35:01but she gets a bad feeling about him, like the
- 35:04vibes are not good for him or for his crony LUTs.
- 35:08Speaker 2: And everyone else loved him. Mm hmm.
- 35:10Speaker 3: They're like, he's so cool, this man gives us money.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Yeah, she's real. Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 3: That night, she's digging around the like trash compactor because
- 35:18she finds things and makes things from what she finds,
- 35:21and she sees LUTs trying to get into the memory
- 35:24bank and she accidentally makes noise and like interrupts his
- 35:27plans to go in there, and so she tricks him
- 35:30into walking her back upstairs so he can't go in
- 35:32that night.
- 35:33Speaker 2: That was clever.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Yeah, there's like a little live stream kind of of
- 35:39the contest winner announcement, and you find out that Xenon
- 35:43one with her replica of Protozoa, so she's gonna get
- 35:47to be able to dance on stage with him.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Yay.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Xenon gets that same friend who got them into the
- 35:54off limits section to do this space suit stuff. She
- 35:59gets the code to go into the memory bank to
- 36:01wait for Lutz the next night so she could see
- 36:04what he's gonna do. And when he goes in there,
- 36:06he puts like this little metal disk into the computer
- 36:09and types on codes and stuff. So she sees him
- 36:13and then he walks out. He accidentally drops it on
- 36:16the ground, but he doesn't know that.
- 36:17Speaker 2: He drops it. We just see that. What an idiot. Yeah,
- 36:21I don't know how you just don't realize that. But okay.
- 36:23Speaker 3: When she tries to get add in the memory bank,
- 36:25Thad her codes all erase from her hands, so the
- 36:28alarms go off and Commander Plank catches her and she
- 36:32gets really in trouble here.
- 36:35Speaker 1: That kid who's given her the codes, he needs to
- 36:37get in trouble man, like.
- 36:38Speaker 2: None of that pump. And if he didn't give them
- 36:40away like that, I know, how does he not get caught?
- 36:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and his dad should get in trouble for giving
- 36:46his kid access to the codes.
- 36:48Speaker 3: I think he just sneaks and finds them because he's
- 36:51a computer guy. He has that little tablet thing though,
- 36:53but he like hacks stuff. Oh okay, I think him
- 36:56and the other guy on Earth are supposed to be
- 36:58like the same person, but one on someone on some face.
- 37:02Speaker 2: That was funny.
- 37:05Speaker 3: So this is when her parents decide they're gonna send
- 37:08her to Earth with her aunt and not come back
- 37:11for a while until they decide.
- 37:13Speaker 2: They don't tell her how long.
- 37:14Speaker 3: They unfortunately sent her down with Windham and LUTs because like,
- 37:19that's the ship that's going back to Earth.
- 37:21Speaker 2: That was so mean of them.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Before she gets on the space shuttle, her bestie Nebula
- 37:27gives her this earring that she made because she found
- 37:29this little disc on the ground, and earlier in the
- 37:31movie she had had other jewelry stuff of those discs,
- 37:35and so she made an earring, gave it to Xenon
- 37:37as like going away present. So Xenon is wearing it
- 37:40as an ear ring when they get to Earth and
- 37:42Lutz sees it in her ear as she goes to
- 37:46walk off to find her aunt, and so he's like, crap,
- 37:49that's mine.
- 37:50Speaker 2: I need that back right now. Also, she like.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Thinks the Earth is this super overpopulated, super sick discuss
- 38:00She thinks.
- 38:00Speaker 2: That the entirety of Earth is like a third World country. Yeah,
- 38:04it's like cool, they have like spaceships.
- 38:06Speaker 1: But we've got like twenty years to get there now
- 38:08to match up with his Xenon.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Yeah, just about that's funny.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Ooh wait till that day comes and then everyone watches Xemon.
- 38:16Speaker 2: They better.
- 38:17Speaker 3: I kept writing down where are they on Earth? Because
- 38:21at first I thought they were sent to Florida. It
- 38:22was giving Florida vibes, and then you see the mountains
- 38:25at Margie's house and so I was like, that's not Florida.
- 38:30Speaker 1: There was no evidence to point towards it, but I
- 38:31thought Australia.
- 38:34Speaker 2: They're all American.
- 38:35Speaker 3: But I was like, land wise, Australia's made sense to me.
- 38:41Land wise, Australia does make sense I looked up where
- 38:44it was filmed. It was filmed in Vancouver, So I'm
- 38:48gonna have to go with Vancouver. That's so funny, which
- 38:52shame on me for not even thinking of Canada. I'm like,
- 38:55it's America, true. And so she gets to Earth. Her
- 39:02aunt picks her up. There are three punch buggies in
- 39:05the background of this scene.
- 39:08Speaker 2: That is the car of Earth.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that is the Car of Earth. I was like, Okay,
- 39:12I see who sponsored this movie. She meets Margie. They
- 39:16kind of have like a queen off. They're kind of
- 39:18getting at each other. Yeah, they definitely match their vibe.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 3: She's really sad that she's there. She has to go
- 39:27to public school. She doesn't know how to do anything
- 39:29at this school. She's setting stuff on fire, doesn't know
- 39:32how to swim. Bad vibes all around. And then when
- 39:36she gets home from that first day of school, her
- 39:39room has been ransacked. Nothing else in her aunt's house,
- 39:42just her room.
- 39:43Speaker 1: M hm.
- 39:44Speaker 3: He obviously does not find the disc since it's still
- 39:46on her She goes on like a little date with Greg,
- 39:49her Earth crush Greg. They ride horses and she gets
- 39:55to experience the rain, which she kind of remembered from
- 39:58when she was a kid.
- 40:00Speaker 2: She rides a bike. Did know how to do that?
- 40:02I wrote down.
- 40:03Speaker 1: He's pretty good at romancing her bad date was kind
- 40:06of magical. I was like, I would go on this date.
- 40:09He knew what to do, he knew where to take her,
- 40:10he knew what activities to participate.
- 40:12Speaker 2: It was really fun.
- 40:14Speaker 3: It's like he was written by a woman, but this
- 40:16was written by a man.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Boo.
- 40:19Speaker 3: I think she sees LUTs when they're on that date.
- 40:22They're at the restaurant and she sees him and she's like,
- 40:24oh no, this man's following me. Why is he following me?
- 40:27And Greg, that's smarty pants. He's like, were you wearing
- 40:30that ear ring you came down here? And she's like yeah,
- 40:33and he's like I think he wants that. And she's like, oh,
- 40:35what if this is the disc So they're putting two
- 40:38and two together.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Now Greg doing all the heavy lifting. Uh huh.
- 40:43Speaker 3: And then he somehow hacks into the memory bank of
- 40:46Wincom and finds out that that company is broke and
- 40:52the money, the five million or fifty million dollars that
- 40:56he promised the space station does not exist. And so
- 41:00he had a whole plan going on with this little
- 41:03disc that we will find out in a second. So
- 41:07she puts it into their friend's computer Andrew is his name.
- 41:11It's a nanovirus. It like ruins his computer. So they
- 41:15realize that let's put this into the space station to
- 41:19basically shut it all down, and so it would like
- 41:22fall to Earth or just float through space. But everyone
- 41:25on the space station's gonna die when it shuts down.
- 41:28So she's like, oh my god, I need to save
- 41:29all these people. She's trying to tell her parents that
- 41:33the bad vibes she got from this man are true,
- 41:35but nobody believes.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Her, won't even give her a chance.
- 41:38Speaker 3: No, she like kind of told her aunt, but her
- 41:40Anne didn't really know what was happening. She even tells
- 41:43her parents. She's like, are things shutting down right now?
- 41:46And the parents are like, no, everything's fine. And then
- 41:48when they hang up the phone, the mom says, how
- 41:50did she know that things are shutting down up here?
- 41:52And so I'm like, you still don't believe your daughter
- 41:54that something's going on? Whatever it's because she's thirteen. Yeah,
- 41:58And so the friend on Earth, he comes up with
- 42:02like an undo disc to reverse the effects of the nanovirus,
- 42:07and so she's like, I gotta get up there immediately.
- 42:10Speaker 2: It's crunch time. She has to find her way up there.
- 42:13Speaker 3: She meets up with Lutz and agrees to give him
- 42:17the disc and she's like, but you have to get
- 42:19me back on a flight back up to the space station.
- 42:22He's like, yeah, totally girl. So she gives him the
- 42:24disc and he's like, I'm not doing that.
- 42:27Speaker 2: I'm a liar. Peace out.
- 42:28Speaker 3: And it's fine because she made like a bunch of discs.
- 42:31So it's a fake one and I think she put
- 42:33like her own little funny virus on there. So when
- 42:36he goes to check it, he realizes it's not the
- 42:38real thing. And then this is when she calls Nebula
- 42:41and is like, Hey, I need y'all to tell me
- 42:44when the cargo schedule is so I can get on
- 42:46a cargo ship back up to the space station. Until
- 42:49all that stuff happens, and it was that night, but
- 42:52they miss it.
- 42:53Speaker 2: That's where we see our next bug. Yeah, and it
- 42:56like auto drives yeah.
- 42:59Speaker 3: And so so Margie actually gives her the idea to
- 43:03fly up with Microbe because they're gonna be going I
- 43:06think it's the next day now, and she's like, oh,
- 43:09you're a genius. And so we're finally introduced to Protozoa. Yay,
- 43:15I love him.
- 43:16Speaker 2: They're doing a little press conference.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Yeah, they're doing a press conference to be like this
- 43:22is the first rock band going up into space. Here
- 43:25they are, So they're introduced them. She goes backstage and
- 43:28is like, hey, I'm your contest winner. I need to
- 43:30get up there, and he's like, I got you, girl,
- 43:33come with us, get on that ship. Her aunt now
- 43:37is like where is Xinon because Xenon left this note
- 43:40telling her like I just have things I need to do,
- 43:43and so she races to the wind Calm area, which
- 43:47is where it's happening, and she's like, where is my
- 43:50niece and she says, wherever Protozoa is, that's where Xenoon
- 43:54will be, all three of them and Judy Windham, and
- 43:57let's get on that's the spaceship as well to get
- 44:01up there. But as soon as they get up there,
- 44:03Zenon basically like locks them in a little closet and
- 44:06they're like we need to leave immediately. They need to
- 44:10get that disc and head out because they've got fifteen
- 44:13minutes before the whole space station shuts down completely.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Which those little space jets did not fly fast.
- 44:20Speaker 1: So now the way we're supposed to believe that they
- 44:23got up there that fast, it's like it's not even
- 44:25like they start out slow and then it shows up
- 44:27shooting off.
- 44:28Speaker 2: It's like a gradual like yeah, it's so funny.
- 44:35Speaker 3: Okay, they're all up on the space station. Everyone's running
- 44:38around because things are about to fail. The two guys
- 44:43they're not getting that disc. They're like, let's refuel jet
- 44:46out of here, and the ladies like, you have to
- 44:48calm down. We need to cool down, and.
- 44:49Speaker 2: We need to refuel. So this is happening right now.
- 44:52So they're stuck there. Her parents still don't really believe her.
- 44:56No one does. It's crazy.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Literally, the thing is falling apart around and they're like no.
- 45:01Speaker 3: But she runs into a Commander Plank, her and her
- 45:04aunt and there's like a little love at first sight
- 45:06moment between Aunt Judy and Commander Plank, and he's like,
- 45:11take her to jail, take her to my office. She's
- 45:13not supposed to be here. But her bestI Nebula, and
- 45:17their friends break them out. They race to the memory
- 45:20bank since she puts in her undue disc basically, and
- 45:25she's like, I need to remember this code. Total system failure.
- 45:29In thirty seconds. She doesn't remember the code. Total system failure.
- 45:32In twenty seconds, she doesn't remember the code. Goes all
- 45:35the way down to ten seconds, and then you get
- 45:37like one second left and she remembers, and like everything
- 45:40shuts off, and then like five seconds later, everything comes
- 45:42back on and she saved it. Everything's good, the undue
- 45:46disc works.
- 45:47Speaker 2: No way, they didn't die in real life. I know,
- 45:51suspended a lot of my.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Belief for this movie because I was like, dcom space,
- 45:56they didn't have the money for all that, you know,
- 45:59right good this one. I was like, the system can't
- 46:02shut down at all the pressure, their heads will explode.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Can't be doing that. Mm hmmm, movie magic. So yay,
- 46:13Xenon saved the day.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Everyone finally believes her because she's just saved everybody's lives,
- 46:18and then we basically cut to the concert. Microbe is performing.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Dumbis on Omatic.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Xenon does not get up on stage. She sends her
- 46:28bestI Nebula instead, and so they sing Supernova Girl, My
- 46:34Supernova Girl.
- 46:36Speaker 2: That was a bop. Uh. It is a bop. It's
- 46:39so good, make my Hot go Boom boom.
- 46:44Speaker 3: It's not on Spotify unfortunately, rip M. And so the
- 46:49movie ends with them performing first rock concert in space
- 46:53and everything saved excess.
- 46:58Speaker 2: But what about Greg.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Oh, she's like facetiming Greg during the concert. You never
- 47:04see that man again. I was about to say, I
- 47:05need the spoiler is here in the movie too.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Okay, Margie, I think, is the only one from the
- 47:13first one in the second one of the Earth friend okay,
- 47:16girl and Raven Simone's not in it either.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I saw that. I was looking at the posters third one. Oh,
- 47:22she's in the third one. Okay.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Very funny was the difference in attire on the space
- 47:26station versus on Earth. People wearing normal clothes and they
- 47:29had funky fashion up in space, which I was like,
- 47:32that probably would be true. You know, they have their
- 47:34own little community up there. M. The funniest thing I
- 47:37found was like, you know, they all have space themed
- 47:39names up in space, and Xena and she's not born
- 47:43in space, so why did they name her that?
- 47:46Speaker 2: They were just so obsessed with space.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Because she was like one of the only kids who
- 47:51wasn't born on that little space station because they were like, oh,
- 47:54you just moved up here when you were five, though,
- 47:55what do you remember about her?
- 47:57Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 47:57Speaker 1: I thought that was so funny. I was like, why
- 47:59is your xenon You weren't born there? Like maybe she
- 48:04changed her name. That was so funny, I had that's funny.
- 48:09I never thought about that. Yeah, and then Raven Simone's
- 48:13hair was so cute, the little pigtails with the twirls.
- 48:16Speaker 2: I was obsessed with her in the whole movie. She
- 48:18killed it.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Mm hmmm, I want my own little disc earring.
- 48:22Speaker 1: That would be I honestly, that would be a good
- 48:24Halloween costume Xinon. True, she would be a really cool
- 48:29Halloween costume.
- 48:31Speaker 2: They mentioned twenty twenty five at some point they do, yeah,
- 48:35they do. They mention it. It's towards the beginning. Hmmm.
- 48:38I could look up the script real quick. Okay, I
- 48:40will say. All I put was twenty twenty five. Question
- 48:42more exclamation point, question mark, exclamation point. Wow, Okay, I
- 48:47found it. Okay, what did they say?
- 48:48Speaker 3: It's when they find out microbes coming, and the three
- 48:51girls are like microbes coming, Microbe. They're about as Thermo
- 48:55as some band from back in twenty twenty five, the
- 48:58one that boy says.
- 48:59Speaker 2: That exactly what they said. That was so funny.
- 49:02Speaker 1: I loved that way. I was like scrambling for my
- 49:06notebook because I think I had it.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Next week. I was like kind of locked into the
- 49:09movie and I was like, wait, what did you say?
- 49:11And so I just wrote twent five that's fun.
- 49:15Speaker 1: I also said if I took a shot every time
- 49:18they said major slash minor yeah, overused terminology in the movie.
- 49:23I understood they were trying to make space slang happen,
- 49:26but too much of the major miner.
- 49:28Speaker 3: I wonder how they thought of all those fun words,
- 49:31like we would never say that now, yeah, never.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Oh, I liked it whenever they would say can we
- 49:36scrub this? I don't know why.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I thought that terminology was really funny. Oh, there were
- 49:42action packers.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Did you see them?
- 49:44Speaker 3: Were they like to phase two ones?
- 49:46Speaker 2: Yeah? And they had like the big yellow handles, you know, the.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Yellow Okay, yeah, I do remember that.
- 49:51Speaker 2: I saw that. I was like, I wonder if she
- 49:53noticed the bugs were really funny.
- 49:58Speaker 3: After the third one in that one scene, I was like,
- 50:00I have to count them.
- 50:03Speaker 1: And then the last thing whenever she sneaks out to
- 50:06go to her space walk. I laughed so hard. She's
- 50:09like standing in that little room.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Where I guess, like it's like the pressurization room before
- 50:12you can go back.
- 50:13Speaker 1: The door's open, so she's in space at this point,
- 50:16but she still has gravity locking her down to the thing.
- 50:20And she turns around like on her feet and steps
- 50:22and waves at them and then turns back around and
- 50:25then jumps out into space. And I thought that was
- 50:27so funny because I was like, cool, so she still
- 50:30got gravity in that little room and then she jumped
- 50:34out and I that cracked me up.
- 50:36Speaker 2: The little shuffle around to be like hi guys, mm hmm.
- 50:40Speaker 1: But I gave it three and a half stars, three
- 50:42and a half positive. I think my review was this
- 50:45is pretty stellar.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Also, this is a movie I want to watch when
- 50:48I'm high. I think this one would be oh, very fun.
- 50:51Speaker 1: I think stoners could get into it. First of all,
- 50:55the slang stellar major mind, like that's so good for
- 51:01stoner culture, and it's just like, yeah, it was silly
- 51:05and like all the best ways I liked. Also, those
- 51:08little cgi rats that were like in that little globe
- 51:11that her parents were working on. Yeah, it had a
- 51:13lot of little fun, little knickknack stuff in it, and
- 51:16I liked.
- 51:17Speaker 2: That that's fun. Yes, good movie, good movie. I gave
- 51:20it four stars. I think respect it. I respect it valid.
- 51:25Should we do my segment? Yes? I have a zenas
- 51:33slipitis count.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Whenever they were saying that Isabelle, she was walking pie.
- 51:39She thought they were saying penis.
- 51:40Speaker 2: And she was like, who keeps saying that? Isn't that
- 51:42a kid's food?
- 51:43Speaker 3: I was like, slipitis And then she was like, mm hmm,
- 51:48that's funny.
- 51:48Speaker 2: It was funny.
- 51:50Speaker 3: So I'm going to give you what it actually is.
- 51:53And then I'm gonna tell you the number that I
- 51:55counted while I was watching it.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Okay, because they're different, Hi.
- 52:00Speaker 3: It's high. So they say it twelve times, okay, okay,
- 52:04and she's not the only one who says it. I
- 52:05didn't count each time, but I only caught seven of them.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 52:11Speaker 3: And so when I do counts like that, I want
- 52:12to like double check that I got the correct amount.
- 52:15And so when I looked up the script and I
- 52:16found twelve, I was like, there's no way, But they
- 52:20really do say it that many times.
- 52:22Speaker 1: That happened to me once when I was doing account
- 52:24I don't remember what movie it was. Oh, I think
- 52:28it was the Happiest Millionaire. I was doing counts for.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Oh, what does he say? Oh? Blasted it?
- 52:34Speaker 1: I thought because I had that, he said, oh blasted
- 52:36or blasted And I was like, oh, I think I
- 52:38got them all.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And then I went to the script and I went
- 52:40did not get them all? Uh huh? I was like,
- 52:44geez Zidis Lapidis. Yeah.
- 52:46Speaker 1: They were really trying to get some new slang going,
- 52:48like Disney was testing their power there.
- 52:50Speaker 2: They were like, you think we could we could do
- 52:52it because.
- 52:53Speaker 1: There's so much new slang, because it's not even like
- 52:55there's like one or two things in the movie that's like,
- 52:57oh yeah that makes sense, like those are they're little
- 52:59space things?
- 52:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but everything. They had it for everything.
- 53:02Speaker 3: I think she continues to say it in the second
- 53:04one too, but I think there's another thing that she
- 53:06says interesting.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Uh that's so funny. Yeah. That was my least favorite
- 53:11of the space slang. Ah.
- 53:14Speaker 1: My favorite was scrub it? Can we just scrub that?
- 53:17I feel like they were annoyed every time and I
- 53:18said it, so I guess that's why I found it
- 53:19extra funny. I've already did mat you Minor. There was
- 53:22so much major, way more than minor. M But yeah,
- 53:26they had some fun slang going on there. Yeah, they
- 53:28really liked building up that little community.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Should we do letterboxed? Yes, letterbox.
- 53:41Speaker 1: My first one is the original super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl.
- 53:47Speaker 2: That's good. I like that one.
- 53:52Speaker 3: My first one needs Supernova Girl to play at the
- 53:55club tvh.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Real, I would go hard for that.
- 53:59Speaker 3: You know, when they do, like do those Disney nights
- 54:01when they come around like touring, I wonder if they
- 54:03play this song, they better mentioned the xeno and stuff.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Because that would be an iconic callback. And I bet
- 54:09you could request it because I did a one direction
- 54:11versus Jonas Brother's Night one time and he took requests.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 54:15Speaker 1: My second one is Zoom Zoom Zoom goes pretty hard.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it does.
- 54:22Speaker 3: My second one saving every outfit on Pinterest.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:26Speaker 1: My last one, Aunt Judy is forever an icon.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:31Speaker 3: She reminded me a lot of Lisa Kudro.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Ugh. Yeah, that's a good pool. That's a good pool.
- 54:36M hm.
- 54:38Speaker 3: My last one, this is the future. I was promised.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Ugh, I know. I was sad that the two thousands
- 54:43are not beginning to look like that.
- 54:46Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't think it'll ever look like that in
- 54:49our lifetime.
- 54:50Speaker 1: No, I think the world will collapse before it looks
- 54:53like that. Yeah, on Fortue, hopefully in not our lifetime.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Good movie. Hey, will you watch the other two?
- 55:02Speaker 1: I think so well. I think I'll watch the second one.
- 55:04I don't know if I'll watch the third one depends
- 55:06on how good the second one is.
- 55:07Speaker 2: Mm hmm, this was a good week. Hmm. What movies
- 55:11are we watching next week?
- 55:13Speaker 3: Jordan, we're watching random movies. Yes, we're gonna watch lol
