- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, y'all not even down there with the with the
- 1:55Speaker 1: regular podcast and radio where the buildings like like following
- 1:59Speaker 1: up which which is I just know what it looked like. Okay,
- 2:08Speaker 1: it was like there around the corner from the YO.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I was like no, the ain't not. Yesterday I was like, oh,
- 2:12Speaker 1: they ain't in a good part of this. Yeah, they
- 2:14Speaker 1: call it the Upper west Side. I grew up on
- 2:19Speaker 1: the west side, the side, upper west side. What's that
- 2:23Speaker 1: they were selling crack from here to that. I don't
- 2:24Speaker 1: get the point. They like aross the line right here now.
- 2:27Speaker 5: But but you do know, if you drive about three
- 2:29Speaker 5: blocks down the.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Streets, look lo oh you think, I don't know, I
- 2:33Speaker 1: still got to go over there.
- 2:35Speaker 4: So soon as soon as you get over.
- 2:36Speaker 3: There by the jail, and then you go, you know
- 2:40Speaker 3: what it looks.
- 2:41Speaker 4: You know, look up.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You won't see one of those little cameras with the
- 2:44Speaker 1: blue lights on. And no, just turn around, no recording.
- 2:48Speaker 1: They won't know what happened to you. Just tell my wife.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Just loop it, just loop it. You turn Nobody's paying
- 2:53Speaker 1: no attention to that anyway. That's a pity crime. Don't
- 2:55Speaker 1: worry about it.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Loop Now. How you doing? How you to health?
- 3:01Speaker 1: Mental health? Oh man, that's so crazy.
- 3:03Speaker 7: Sorry to get so deep into the conversation.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I mean it's not that deep. I mean that's for you.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I mean I feel like that's for like you great
- 3:10Speaker 1: young young gentlemen and young women get to discuss that
- 3:14Speaker 1: mental health thing, like I don't. My granddaddy beat the
- 3:16Speaker 1: mental health out of me a long time ago. So
- 3:18Speaker 1: I'm just having a real good time just being you know,
- 3:21Speaker 1: being present. And we used to get whoopings. So you
- 3:25Speaker 1: think you ain't getting with your mind? Right, I don't
- 3:28Speaker 1: know if you if if mintal health come up a lot.
- 3:30Speaker 6: Shit, Hey, when I talked my was like, I was like, yeah, Mama,
- 3:35Speaker 6: I've been talking to a therapist.
- 3:36Speaker 5: And my mom was like, boy, ain't nothing wrong with you?
- 3:39Speaker 5: What the hell you talking about?
- 3:40Speaker 4: You talking to a therap Boy, I need to take
- 3:42Speaker 4: you to the hospital.
- 3:43Speaker 7: I'm like, no, Mama was just you know, I just
- 3:45Speaker 7: want to have somebody.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Jesus is your therapist?
- 3:48Speaker 5: My Mama like, boy, you know them.
- 3:49Speaker 6: You know, the crazy House is still open out here
- 3:52Speaker 6: in Arkansas past and we damnar had to sing your
- 3:55Speaker 6: uncle up there because he talking about mental So yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 6: so your mental health is like a new term, right,
- 4:01Speaker 6: But yeah, I appreciate.
- 4:02Speaker 4: It more so I'm just checking on you.
- 4:03Speaker 1: No, No, I know, I get it.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I'm definitely not am but.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Forty three oh, yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
- 4:16Speaker 1: The nobody asked us about no mental health to go
- 4:20Speaker 1: to work for the young.
- 4:21Speaker 3: People that may have been tuning in right now that
- 4:23Speaker 3: all right, how does a legend like yourself?
- 4:25Speaker 4: How you doing today?
- 4:26Speaker 1: Man, I'm just happy if everybody else is happy, I'm
- 4:29Speaker 1: able to do what I was on this earth, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: put on this earth to do. I'm just happy about that. Man.
- 4:34Speaker 1: That's how I look at life. I've looked at life
- 4:36Speaker 1: that way since I was young, because it's too easy
- 4:39Speaker 1: to go into that when you call it mental mental
- 4:42Speaker 1: health on a serious note, it's been going on so
- 4:45Speaker 1: long if you black, yeah facts, so when I when
- 4:49Speaker 1: I hear it, and it's not it's no disrespect to
- 4:51Speaker 1: what the word is. It's just more so they haven't
- 4:54Speaker 1: cared about us since the beginning. So it's like you
- 4:56Speaker 1: can't even relate when you come from I'm from the
- 4:59Speaker 1: west side of making it, so I'm like, appreciate it,
- 5:03Speaker 1: but we done numbed it to a point on that side.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And then all you do at that at that time
- 5:09Speaker 1: is just look to what's going on good and what
- 5:12Speaker 1: can you affect in a positive way, because the world
- 5:14Speaker 1: just gonna be the world.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah, well man, again, it's just a pleasure to talk
- 5:19Speaker 3: to you because you were one of the very rarities
- 5:21Speaker 3: of a very successful hit songwriter and very successful hit
- 5:28Speaker 3: artists don't really see both kind of get one and
- 5:33Speaker 3: then one, and I always ask like, well, I will
- 5:40Speaker 3: love to ask you this question.
- 5:42Speaker 4: How do you know this song is not for you?
- 5:45Speaker 1: Everybody says this, Everybody says this.
- 5:48Speaker 4: I don't.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I feel like when I'm songwriting, like as as the
- 5:51Speaker 1: job of songwriting, it's not it's not for me. Well,
- 5:54Speaker 1: it is for me. I feel like what I'm doing
- 5:57Speaker 1: like this.
- 5:57Speaker 4: You've never been in the songwriting situation.
- 5:59Speaker 7: Be like, man, need to go ahead and put that
- 6:00Speaker 7: in my fold.
- 6:01Speaker 1: M hmm.
- 6:03Speaker 6: I'd rather give it away because you're already going into
- 6:05Speaker 6: intentions of this is for somebody else. And then when
- 6:07Speaker 6: you I mean, you like this for my album, don't
- 6:10Speaker 6: call me right now exactly.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And then what I'm gonna say that some dream ship?
- 6:14Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, is that because.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Ben that Jeed my bed that could have been your.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Shout out.
- 6:24Speaker 8: D C edit that leader ship, leader ship, you better
- 6:30Speaker 8: not take this ship out of the middle, hey, players,
- 6:34Speaker 8: funk up to no, don't.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, the craziest thing with me and me
- 6:46Speaker 1: and Jay kind of first met when I was at
- 6:48Speaker 1: the building in death Jam and Bed was already out
- 6:51Speaker 1: of the course before ten and Bed was the deciding
- 6:55Speaker 1: factor actually to even do an album or become an
- 6:57Speaker 1: artist at the time, because once I did it, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: saw the reaction to it. I was like, y'all like this, Oh,
- 7:03Speaker 1: I could do this in my sleep. This is nothing.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And I remember him being to death Jam and I
- 7:09Speaker 1: just had walked out of l A's office and saw
- 7:11Speaker 1: James like, you come in, I'll let you. What's up
- 7:16Speaker 1: you don jay Z now? Yeah, jay Z, Hey you
- 7:21Speaker 1: did that? You wrote that Bear record. I was like, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 1: me and Los, don't you ever get nothing like that away? Again?
- 7:30Speaker 1: That's the first thing. Is this before now, this, after
- 7:34Speaker 1: this post this like right after this all happened.
- 7:36Speaker 3: At the say so Ben and Umbrella are already out
- 7:38Speaker 3: right that you wrote yes.
- 7:40Speaker 1: And Charlotte's then had just came out, so it was
- 7:44Speaker 1: still on the charts moving at the same.
- 7:45Speaker 7: Time, you're talking about Rihanna Umbrella.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yes, by the way, my bad and and he told
- 7:50Speaker 1: me he's like, yo, don't you right now? I was
- 7:52Speaker 1: like I think, I I think I'm okay, be all right,
- 7:56Speaker 1: but yeah, think about it a lot.
- 7:57Speaker 3: And this is jay Z the executive, because he had
- 7:59Speaker 3: an executive that's a real friend.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Though I'm saying, yeah, he's basically saying if he was there, like, no,
- 8:08Speaker 1: we're not you're not getting that.
- 8:10Speaker 5: You're not getting that right.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And I go on one of those things where I
- 8:14Speaker 1: don't mind giving you can come take whatever it is
- 8:17Speaker 1: like and I'll just you know, do my best to
- 8:19Speaker 1: write something. Every song is just what it is like.
- 8:23Speaker 1: They're all just different personalities and different different feelings, and
- 8:26Speaker 1: I don't you know, when I make my stuff back
- 8:28Speaker 1: to that point, I know it's for me, you know.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And so that's what we got, man, damn.
- 8:35Speaker 6: So so you said Jay said, nah, Man, don't be
- 8:41Speaker 6: given out that type of hits.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Type of hits.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Very responsible for a big brother to say that.
- 8:49Speaker 4: But basically saying you should have put that out for you.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I should have kept it on love right right.
- 8:56Speaker 4: But I feel like, yeah, I know find to though
- 9:00Speaker 4: oh no it.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Was yeah, but that man had the bigger records on
- 9:03Speaker 1: my app. But that is true.
- 9:07Speaker 6: But it makes sense why you were so consistent with
- 9:10Speaker 6: the back to back because you're like, oh, this is
- 9:12Speaker 6: what y'all like.
- 9:14Speaker 4: I got y'all I got.
- 9:17Speaker 1: From the logo. I got it.
- 9:19Speaker 5: I got y'all love it. I want to shoot from
- 9:21Speaker 5: right head.
- 9:24Speaker 1: It was literally just like that I could. I was like,
- 9:28Speaker 1: oh this y'all going crazy about this record and it
- 9:30Speaker 1: was people fighting on bit. I was like, hit loas
- 9:33Speaker 1: I said, a man, maybe like five six of them
- 9:35Speaker 1: same tracks. He's like he came back in the forty
- 9:40Speaker 1: eight hours later he had that shot the ten track up, Bam,
- 9:45Speaker 1: Gone Fast Gone, Purple Kids is gone. So yeah, I
- 9:50Speaker 1: was having fun.
- 9:53Speaker 4: That was a heavyweight about though.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Something is a tricky though because y'all be like, oh
- 9:59Speaker 5: you know what I did?
- 10:00Speaker 8: Hope y'all, Oh you forgot I did this.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I gotta figure it out.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I mean, Sean gonna get mad at me. I feel
- 10:09Speaker 3: like the Beyonce records that you wrote.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Man, let me stop, man please, I love you, bro.
- 10:17Speaker 4: We got the same name.
- 10:18Speaker 1: We all love Sean.
- 10:20Speaker 6: Say what you wanted to say, right because I was
- 10:23Speaker 6: waiting on you to finish your sentence because I was
- 10:25Speaker 6: about to.
- 10:26Speaker 5: I didn't want to be in the shot.
- 10:28Speaker 1: That's terrible. He's I'm gonna get out of the shot.
- 10:31Speaker 4: This is gonna get clipped up.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I just felt like the Beyonce records that the Dream wrote,
- 10:37Speaker 3: We're bigger than Sean gets Beyonce records. In fact, if
- 10:41Speaker 3: you can take me back onto the verses, we just
- 10:46Speaker 3: need a redo.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Sean gonna kill me.
- 10:50Speaker 7: I love you, Sean.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Looking for.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Back to positive news.
- 11:07Speaker 4: I mean, we did talk about this when Sean was
- 11:09Speaker 4: on the show.
- 11:09Speaker 3: We did It's Real Good, and I said, we got
- 11:14Speaker 3: to get the Dream to come up here, like a
- 11:16Speaker 3: summer and a half ago.
- 11:17Speaker 6: Anyways, what I want to know is why did you
- 11:19Speaker 6: take a break from being an artist.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It was actually a combination of things. I think mostly
- 11:28Speaker 1: and mainly once that the idea of me, even during
- 11:32Speaker 1: the album and becoming an artist was to showcase records,
- 11:35Speaker 1: right because I'm a songwriter first, so being a songwriter producer,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you already know that everybody's not going to do certain records.
- 11:42Speaker 1: There's certain records I had to do or you never
- 11:45Speaker 1: would hear them. One of the records would be like
- 11:47Speaker 1: a fancy, you're not hearing that record because somebody would
- 11:49Speaker 1: be too scared to do a six minute and forty
- 11:51Speaker 1: seconds song number one, number two to even talk about
- 11:56Speaker 1: admiration in that particular way. And being that vulnerable about
- 12:01Speaker 1: a record, about life and just about yourself in total.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So I felt like it was more of a duty
- 12:08Speaker 1: to have to do it and I can do it.
- 12:10Speaker 1: So that's what happened. And when I felt like it
- 12:13Speaker 1: was no longer I had to do a thing, I
- 12:16Speaker 1: was like, okay, cool, let me go ahead, and she
- 12:18Speaker 1: and I got to push you. There's no church in
- 12:20Speaker 1: a while, let me do these things. I like this art,
- 12:22Speaker 1: part of what the music is, and let me be
- 12:25Speaker 1: in this space. And then as time you know, goes by,
- 12:28Speaker 1: you just started to get the inkling of wanting to
- 12:31Speaker 1: do a particular thing. And my fans, of course, been
- 12:35Speaker 1: giving me shit for so long, like, yo, man, you
- 12:37Speaker 1: not just gonna go How You're gonna not drive love
- 12:39Speaker 1: of fair Man? I can't believe, man.
- 12:41Speaker 7: I don't.
- 12:42Speaker 6: I was confused you as a fan, I was like,
- 12:44Speaker 6: how you just gonna take a break, like you just gonna.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And also the idea of how records were so and
- 12:50Speaker 1: being I guess put out to the public was different,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and so you had a change over you gotta understand.
- 12:57Speaker 1: In two thousand and seven was my debut. That was
- 12:59Speaker 1: the first year of the iPhone, right damn everything changed
- 13:04Speaker 1: from that particular space. It went from there was no disk,
- 13:09Speaker 1: the violence you just started popping like it wasn't like
- 13:11Speaker 1: it was crazy. But when people want tangible things in
- 13:14Speaker 1: their homes, by the way, and with them, you can't
- 13:16Speaker 1: do everything on the phone, like you could do your
- 13:19Speaker 1: phone thing, but you can't really do everything that you
- 13:22Speaker 1: need to do to be connected to another individual. So
- 13:25Speaker 1: I knew that there was a line between people like
- 13:28Speaker 1: me and who my fans were, and they were being
- 13:30Speaker 1: left out because they wouldn't know a certain thing is dropping,
- 13:33Speaker 1: a certain thing is doing whatever it is. And because
- 13:37Speaker 1: of that, literally it was just not that interesting of
- 13:41Speaker 1: a thing to do. And plus the b thing was
- 13:44Speaker 1: a lot more interesting than me to keep growing this
- 13:47Speaker 1: mountain of a thing that she had and that read
- 13:49Speaker 1: like all of those records I did between that time period.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Now, is there any artists that you haven't worked with
- 13:55Speaker 5: that you want to work with?
- 13:56Speaker 1: Lenmigravits Ooh yeah, yeah, I'm gonna say that every day
- 14:01Speaker 1: all day. You hard to to Oh yeah, it's gonna happen,
- 14:05Speaker 1: but you want him to call you hard to get
- 14:11Speaker 1: I have, Okay, So it's more a timing thing then,
- 14:15Speaker 1: scheduling because you.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Know he lived around the world.
- 14:18Speaker 7: Okay, you look him up.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm sure last night he was on the stage like
- 14:22Speaker 1: that man. That man works.
- 14:24Speaker 5: He definitely works.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Work.
- 14:25Speaker 3: What keeps you motivated to keep doing this thing that
- 14:28Speaker 3: you love called music?
- 14:29Speaker 7: Because do you have to even work if you want to?
- 14:32Speaker 1: I'm trying to get people at my house to know that.
- 14:33Speaker 1: But anyway, but.
- 14:35Speaker 4: What's for your fans?
- 14:36Speaker 7: I think it's like you've been gone for a while.
- 14:39Speaker 1: It's just one of those when you when you're charged
- 14:43Speaker 1: with a gift like this, you can't you don't just
- 14:45Speaker 1: go put it in the rafters and be like all right,
- 14:47Speaker 1: cool whatever. You figure out a way to get up.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And I just remember being in traffic going to work
- 14:54Speaker 1: to a regular nine to five and what music you work?
- 14:57Speaker 7: Me?
- 14:58Speaker 1: Oh man, I don't need not even going there.
- 15:01Speaker 3: You can't tell us what you worked at that part
- 15:04Speaker 3: of the complex around the corner from here, there's I
- 15:06Speaker 3: tell you what, there's this one job that to this
- 15:08Speaker 3: day I'm still hurting from.
- 15:10Speaker 1: This is literally this magazine pack. You don't really think
- 15:13Speaker 1: about magazines because you just got get one at a
- 15:15Speaker 1: time and you keep you never think about the bends
- 15:18Speaker 1: put together and how heavy they could possibly be until
- 15:21Speaker 1: you're stacking them ships up about six times and then
- 15:24Speaker 1: you're like, why are you then rolling the serrand around
- 15:29Speaker 1: the joint way to the top. Okay, yeah, yeah, I
- 15:37Speaker 1: have some joints. So so for me, that was a
- 15:41Speaker 1: delivered music was a delivery from that particular part. And
- 15:43Speaker 1: so I actually wake up thinking about that is however
- 15:47Speaker 1: that sounds is music soundtracks everybody's life, and it's that
- 15:53Speaker 1: one split second that keeps you just calm or just
- 15:55Speaker 1: chilling or whatever, like whatever that does for you in
- 15:57Speaker 1: the morning. I want to be a part of it.
- 16:00Speaker 1: That is in the morning, in the evening, if it's
- 16:02Speaker 1: another artist at your wedding, like all of these times
- 16:05Speaker 1: and great times that you're having, because like I said
- 16:07Speaker 1: when we started this office, the world's hard enough.
- 16:10Speaker 5: I agree, especially these days.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Man, people getting fired, laid off, and it's a blessing
- 16:15Speaker 3: to even get some money right now in this climate.
- 16:18Speaker 6: Who you telling and you just said you ain't gotta
- 16:20Speaker 6: really work if you don't want to, that's super blessing.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Definitely just retire and go to the house and be
- 16:25Speaker 1: like speaking speaking the world. I pulled up a very
- 16:28Speaker 1: important list to so much better.
- 16:30Speaker 4: To argue my points.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Okay, Sean Garrett be got to say songs, check on it,
- 16:36Speaker 3: upgrade you get me, buy it The Dream single, Ladies.
- 16:41Speaker 7: Run the World, Break my soul.
- 16:50Speaker 4: They want to be petty today. No, I just wanted
- 16:52Speaker 4: to have some statistics. I could have kept going, but
- 16:55Speaker 4: it just went through.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I'm smashing to you one plus one on Top Countdown, Dawn,
- 17:01Speaker 3: I forgot about countdown.
- 17:02Speaker 5: You did love on Top Partition, Flaudless, Church.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Girl, my House. Why y'all being like this.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Was just I don't know what I don't know today,
- 17:24Speaker 3: I'm just making my point.
- 17:27Speaker 4: I just wanted to have statistics.
- 17:30Speaker 6: You just want to fact check the fact check myself
- 17:33Speaker 6: because that's what I said.
- 17:34Speaker 4: I remember, I remember the actual verses. Everyone watched the
- 17:37Speaker 4: verses it created versus.
- 17:39Speaker 1: It's pretty good. It's really entertaining.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Anyways, back to the dream Dream.
- 17:43Speaker 6: How do you feel about artists and songwriters selling their
- 17:46Speaker 6: catalog Mmm?
- 17:47Speaker 4: Would you sell yours?
- 17:50Speaker 1: All of that?
- 17:53Speaker 4: I'm a little ignorant, so you got to school me.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Bro my bad, go Ahead, Twins, rock Out.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I sold seventy five percent of one of my catalogs.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I have I have four see, and it depends on
- 18:06Speaker 1: what you're gonna do with You just have a plan
- 18:08Speaker 1: to do with whatever you don't. If you have an
- 18:10Speaker 1: asset and you're trying to do something else, like let's
- 18:13Speaker 1: say real estate right now, you can wait till this
- 18:19Speaker 1: particular time in your life till you're sixty and say,
- 18:21Speaker 1: oh cool, and I'll pull that money and then maybe
- 18:23Speaker 1: over that time period you say you made thirty million
- 18:26Speaker 1: dollars or you can sell that thirty million now by
- 18:28Speaker 1: these nine properties, and then you know you made more
- 18:32Speaker 1: money than that. And not only that, if you know
- 18:34Speaker 1: the reversion thing that happens, and based on the constitution,
- 18:38Speaker 1: you get your you know, you get your publishing background.
- 18:40Speaker 5: It's after like what ten years or something like that.
- 18:43Speaker 1: It's like about twenty twenty years. Okay, But so you're
- 18:46Speaker 1: never you're really just always leasing the publishing and out
- 18:49Speaker 1: it always goes back to the owner of that publishing.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And they have these really strict windows though, so if
- 18:55Speaker 1: you miss it, they be like, oh, nould go go
- 18:58Speaker 1: and keep it down in my house.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Then time damn.
- 19:02Speaker 1: But everybody, if you have a catalog that's working at
- 19:05Speaker 1: that height, everybody's on it. They know when that time
- 19:09Speaker 1: is coming with a window WHI is where you get
- 19:11Speaker 1: those masters back. And it's just on each side, the
- 19:13Speaker 1: master side, the polishing side. People know, or they should
- 19:17Speaker 1: know by now how it works. So I wouldn't say
- 19:20Speaker 1: sell it to goal, just ball out and go down
- 19:23Speaker 1: the street and go crazy. But if you have something
- 19:25Speaker 1: and other plans to do, and especially if you're active
- 19:29Speaker 1: like that, didn't I just went on and made it.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I just made two more catalogs right after that, So
- 19:34Speaker 1: I don't it's yeah, I don't know if it's an
- 19:37Speaker 1: end all be all things.
- 19:38Speaker 6: So you just like I want to I want to
- 19:39Speaker 6: sell this property over here, the same.
- 19:41Speaker 7: Thing, just an asset.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you're looking. It's never not going to say
- 19:45Speaker 1: you wrote the record.
- 19:47Speaker 7: Four catalogs is insane.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Though, man, I've been building them things.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Some people only have one because you're a songwriter. So
- 19:53Speaker 6: your your splits is insane.
- 19:58Speaker 4: You have left. You got a lot of left.
- 20:03Speaker 5: The splits like.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I'm back, I'm back, No, no, yeah, it's split.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Sorry, splits okay on my side for sure, and rightfully,
- 20:16Speaker 3: so you gotta you gotta get to go. What do
- 20:19Speaker 3: you want or what he demands what's required from splits.
- 20:24Speaker 7: Ain't no splits sometimes, I bet you're gonna get that
- 20:29Speaker 7: over there.
- 20:30Speaker 1: No, I'm pretty generous, Okay. Anybody that writes with me,
- 20:34Speaker 1: they would say he ain't have to do that.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Mmm okay, Okay.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Actually it's not a person that can't say that, okay,
- 20:41Speaker 1: because I know I'm just writing another one al right.
- 20:44Speaker 1: So usually I'm the coming denominator when everybody's fighting over splits. Here,
- 20:48Speaker 1: you gonna te man Tripp and get to the nickt song.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, because you have you you have what most
- 20:55Speaker 3: people don't have.
- 20:56Speaker 7: You have volume that part too, that's intention for sure.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's no fighting over one or two records. When
- 21:04Speaker 1: do the whole thing. Let me do the whole thing
- 21:06Speaker 1: for sure? You know. So you have that will go
- 21:08Speaker 1: room and certain things you don't feel like. It's a
- 21:10Speaker 1: desperation tactics to like, and then you just what you
- 21:13Speaker 1: do then is just funk off your relationships. All of
- 21:16Speaker 1: that just crumbles in that space, and you gotta be
- 21:18Speaker 1: super methodical about how you move around.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Because that sometimes is more important than the actual song.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Because you guys want to create again, you want to
- 21:29Speaker 3: continue to create. Tell him again, Roy you want to
- 21:31Speaker 3: continue to create. Because now he's saying something good sense,
- 21:35Speaker 3: I'm back on the point.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I appreciate it. He had the twenty five year old
- 21:42Speaker 1: dreaming here. I'm like, I ain't got time for the
- 21:47Speaker 1: hop on my phone pulling up. I got time. I
- 21:51Speaker 1: got a kid this twenty something.
- 21:53Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:55Speaker 1: But yeah, man, that was that's educating. Yeah, they need
- 21:57Speaker 1: to know that particular thing, man, especially with this publishing thing. Man,
- 22:02Speaker 1: A lot of kids just signing stuff for money and
- 22:05Speaker 1: not even understanding what it really is. Is some of
- 22:08Speaker 1: them actually do and then they played, they cry in
- 22:10Speaker 1: the end. It's like, bro, I saw you buy five
- 22:13Speaker 1: Lamborghinis with that bread like, stop playing. I saw you, Man,
- 22:18Speaker 1: I can't believe you got me stocking you cook. Like, Bro,
- 22:21Speaker 1: you didn't need a file Lamborghinis.
- 22:22Speaker 6: Though, and you probably didn't even need the money that
- 22:25Speaker 6: you was requesting. You could have took less money and
- 22:27Speaker 6: had actual.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But that's how that's how I got ownership of my publishing.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It was because when I did Umbrella, I just so
- 22:34Speaker 1: happened to be in between a publishing deal and I
- 22:37Speaker 1: wrote it. Shout out to Mark Stewart and critics for
- 22:41Speaker 1: making that whole thing happen. It was, Oh, you take
- 22:45Speaker 1: this one point five when you do a fifty fifty
- 22:47Speaker 1: pub deal, or you take five hundred thousand. I was like, well,
- 22:51Speaker 1: give me find it because I knew it was at
- 22:55Speaker 1: that point you started ask capt this thing going around,
- 22:58Speaker 1: all that money's coming right back if it's a smash.
- 23:00Speaker 6: Like and you had a monster smash. So you was
- 23:03Speaker 6: like looking at them like, yeah, what see, I see.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Be right back.
- 23:10Speaker 3: It's honored to be talking to you, man, especially in
- 23:12Speaker 3: this in this industry man.
- 23:13Speaker 7: Like the smashes you wrote, brother, it is just timeless, man.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I appreciate it in the In the today, where I
- 23:20Speaker 3: don't really hear a lot of timeless music, I hear
- 23:23Speaker 3: a lot more. It's faster here and gone. In a
- 23:26Speaker 3: couple of months, we still listen to the dream record. Shoot,
- 23:29Speaker 3: I was DJing. I played Makeup Bag on the radio in.
- 23:32Speaker 4: My mix last Thursday.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's what's up.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I think people are trying to put records in between
- 23:38Speaker 1: like when you got you guys are already really great
- 23:41Speaker 1: at entertaining and doing what your job is, right, and
- 23:44Speaker 1: so I think a lot of the artists aren't concentrating
- 23:48Speaker 1: on that craft. In that type of way. They're just
- 23:50Speaker 1: trying to get in where they fit in. And at
- 23:52Speaker 1: some particular point when this thing gets a balance between
- 23:56Speaker 1: both things, people are actually become better at making music
- 24:00Speaker 1: again and caring about it.
- 24:02Speaker 7: Right now, they just don't really feel like it feels
- 24:04Speaker 7: like a hustle right now, I.
- 24:05Speaker 6: Think, yeah, it's like a hustle for ness, like people
- 24:08Speaker 6: trying to hurry up and get a hot record and
- 24:09Speaker 6: then go to the label for nest them, and then
- 24:11Speaker 6: when they're not hot no more, they say, oh, the
- 24:13Speaker 6: label robbed and stole from you.
- 24:14Speaker 5: And it's like, now what you said.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You don't have to get those lambos to get them?
- 24:19Speaker 1: You got five, you know, I know, I like spending money.
- 24:22Speaker 3: You had to get them because I see fire and
- 24:25Speaker 3: diamonds on your hands. That's a ring with And that's
- 24:29Speaker 3: the new roles, right, that's the new roless that you
- 24:30Speaker 3: got to order that you can't even go to.
- 24:32Speaker 4: You can't one you have to do on the list.
- 24:35Speaker 5: I've seen that one on the website. On the list,
- 24:37Speaker 5: you can't get that one.
- 24:38Speaker 4: And is the Rolls gold on too.
- 24:40Speaker 7: Yeah, you're way out of our tax breaking.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Oh, we appreciate that motivation.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Hey man, you're gonna sign this contract? Want to come.
- 24:53Speaker 6: Already in first You're just trying to get this motivation
- 24:58Speaker 6: for the songwriters to say, work on your splits.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Man. Oh yeah, that's important. But just have a healthy
- 25:06Speaker 1: relationship man with each other like it. Just and just
- 25:09Speaker 1: be in the rooms and keep yourself in the room.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Don't do nothing silly to get your ass kicked out
- 25:13Speaker 1: the room. Do no work. You can't do no work
- 25:17Speaker 1: if you ain't even on the stage to do the work.
- 25:19Speaker 1: So don't work yourself out the room. So let the
- 25:21Speaker 1: other person be desperate enough to go crazy about they
- 25:24Speaker 1: public like, yeah, cool dog, here you go. And then
- 25:28Speaker 1: the next album come, if it's on a big star,
- 25:30Speaker 1: then you won't see them there.
- 25:31Speaker 6: I can guarantee you we're not calling you hick on
- 25:33Speaker 6: your money, have a good day.
- 25:36Speaker 5: We ain't calling you next time.
- 25:37Speaker 1: It ain't even about the idea of of somebody taking
- 25:42Speaker 1: something from anybody. That's just an idea that somebody, somebody
- 25:45Speaker 1: always has this notion that they did something more to
- 25:50Speaker 1: a particular song, just in life. I'm sure y'all deal
- 25:52Speaker 1: with that and what y'all do. And there's a fact
- 25:56Speaker 1: and there's a truth to that, and there's also though
- 25:59Speaker 1: matter of opinion, like it's like, yeah, I get what
- 26:01Speaker 1: you saying, and I don't never want that matter of
- 26:04Speaker 1: an opinion to cross. I know what I did on
- 26:08Speaker 1: this record. I'm fine, and I'm gonna do it again,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and I'm gonna do it again and get stronger at
- 26:13Speaker 1: my craft. Where some people just they like, man, that's
- 26:17Speaker 1: one thing, and I'm like, bro, you just did something amazing.
- 26:19Speaker 1: You're not even gonna not do it again and again.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And I get cause I get phone calls from different
- 26:25Speaker 1: producers and I helped people not do regular publishing deals
- 26:29Speaker 1: like no, man do an ad main deal. I don't do
- 26:31Speaker 1: a publishing deal like that. Ain't what you want to do.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Big guys that y'all know and so. And then on
- 26:37Speaker 1: the flip side, the ones that aren't that big and
- 26:39Speaker 1: never get out their own ways are the ones just
- 26:41Speaker 1: fighting over the pities of a thing. And I'm like,
- 26:44Speaker 1: you blew that whole thing up that that didn't even
- 26:47Speaker 1: have nothing to do with the artists, didn't even have
- 26:50Speaker 1: nothing to do. It just slowed them down, stopped something,
- 26:52Speaker 1: got me away. You get cease and desist on something
- 26:55Speaker 1: it's like, why you do that? Yeah, it's like because
- 26:59Speaker 1: by the way that that's a fellow artist and we're
- 27:02Speaker 1: all in this same kind of thing together. You're trying
- 27:05Speaker 1: to make sure that your relationships become bigger and better
- 27:09Speaker 1: so you can actually sustain outside the corporate structure. And
- 27:12Speaker 1: that's just between two people. Just have a conversation, yo, man,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I need oh shit, I get it all. Like, as
- 27:18Speaker 1: long as we're working, we still work. You got something
- 27:20Speaker 1: you hit me and I got something to hit you. Cool.
- 27:23Speaker 1: You gonna split this, ain't no come and say trick
- 27:27Speaker 1: whether he did that amount of the song or this amount.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Let's do the next record, bro, And most people don't
- 27:35Speaker 1: work that way.
- 27:37Speaker 4: The goat.
- 27:39Speaker 7: Drop your jewels right now, man, thank you man, we
- 27:41Speaker 7: appreciate you.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I'm just trying to keep your niggas in bending man,
- 27:44Speaker 1: for sure.
- 27:45Speaker 7: You're doing right.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I want you to get to them be borrowing ship.
- 27:49Speaker 1: That's why that's why I nah, I don't call me.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I was just gonna call you Lambo number four. Hunh job,
- 28:00Speaker 1: y'all fella, drop one off. Oh yeah, your told told
- 28:03Speaker 1: card Play what CARDI that?
- 28:04Speaker 9: The other day?
- 28:05Speaker 1: I was, oh yeah, drop me off one there. You
- 28:08Speaker 1: know you gotta be bro I ain't.
- 28:09Speaker 7: Playing the dream and the building ball alert. Give me
- 28:16Speaker 7: some shout outs, big dog. Do you even have shout
- 28:18Speaker 7: outs too many to say?
- 28:21Speaker 1: Somebody gonna get mad? You know, somebody go get mad?
- 28:26Speaker 1: You already know that. Shout out to the fam though,
- 28:30Speaker 1: shout out to always to my beautiful city, Atlanta, Georgia.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Period in my and my click man at familiar they
- 28:38Speaker 1: know who they know who they is. I ain't got
- 28:40Speaker 1: to you know, see that sometimes you don't never be
- 28:43Speaker 1: careful telling people your destination mm hmmm. I don't mean
- 28:47Speaker 1: like location and where you are in the mapping the world,
- 28:50Speaker 1: your destination. Keep that to yourself so they don't know.
- 28:53Speaker 1: You probably have a he in that other room listening.
- 28:55Speaker 1: It's like, oh, I don't need you to know that
- 28:58Speaker 1: he with me. I just need a phone call, crazy dog. Okay,
- 29:03Speaker 1: I love him. Let me just called him. Shoo him,
- 29:05Speaker 1: little tigs. You know not to do that, mat. Let's
- 29:09Speaker 1: just in a good way. Guys, y'all got to look
- 29:12Speaker 1: on your face like the game up committed crime.
- 29:17Speaker 5: I'm like, no, no, you spending right now, because.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Sometimes people just want to hear from you and they'll
- 29:22Speaker 1: do another thing and it'll be crazy, like, oh man,
- 29:25Speaker 1: wouldn't even let me just call homewide check what's up?
- 29:29Speaker 1: Were good black people ship? I definitely definitely invite me
- 29:38Speaker 1: to the jot down. I thought I made the whole
- 29:41Speaker 1: thing to not invite you. Come home, dog, what's the
- 29:43Speaker 1: lego gets to get something to drink? All right, cool?
- 29:45Speaker 1: Leg get all right?
- 29:47Speaker 5: Bring that body is out right now?
- 29:48Speaker 1: Yes?
- 29:49Speaker 5: How did that come about?
- 29:50Speaker 1: Well, it's of course it is the first offering from
- 29:53Speaker 1: Love Hate Too, which was already you know, I ain't
- 29:56Speaker 1: want to name it that at first, but it kept
- 29:59Speaker 1: sounding like love hate and gave me the feel, I
- 30:02Speaker 1: want to say, the feeling of love hate, And so
- 30:05Speaker 1: once we got into it, I wanted to make sure
- 30:07Speaker 1: the first record that people heard just kind of represented
- 30:09Speaker 1: what it what it was, but also the modern idea
- 30:12Speaker 1: of where I am. And so that's the that's the
- 30:15Speaker 1: first that's the first look. And people seem to be
- 30:19Speaker 1: really anxious, and I can't wait for them to see
- 30:20Speaker 1: this video either. So I'm crunk.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Yeah, you heating up right now?
- 30:24Speaker 1: Hey man, I'm just trying to do my thing right now.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I'm just trying to do my thing. Keep up with you,
- 30:29Speaker 1: young guys. It's been a minute.
- 30:31Speaker 6: Man.
- 30:31Speaker 5: We glad you back, though, really glad we glad you back.
- 30:34Speaker 9: Man.
- 30:34Speaker 5: You took that, you took a long break. I had
- 30:36Speaker 5: the same you were running it up.
- 30:39Speaker 1: You known. You know what I'm saying. That's the hidden
- 30:43Speaker 1: part about being an artist that I think people know.
- 30:46Speaker 1: But you lose so much money being an artist, you know,
- 30:49Speaker 1: So if you are writer and you know what the
- 30:51Speaker 1: difference is, You're like, no, I'm cool. I can stay.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I could wear the same outfit for the whole year
- 30:56Speaker 1: and nobody even knows. I'll take one blissiyaga Jack, please,
- 31:00Speaker 1: thank you very much, and wear that ship every day
- 31:03Speaker 1: like it ain't nothing. Nobody saw me but the people
- 31:05Speaker 1: in publics good. Like, let's get it artist mode. You're like,
- 31:09Speaker 1: you get to the video, you know it's already a budget.
- 31:11Speaker 1: You're like, no, that ain't the right boots. Got to
- 31:14Speaker 1: go buy them all to get the booths. That ain't
- 31:16Speaker 1: the right hat. Let me go get an extra hat.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Next thing. You know, you're like, oh, I just spent
- 31:19Speaker 1: a whole another hundred now you on tour. I want
- 31:23Speaker 1: my likes to be like another hundred and nobody don't
- 31:27Speaker 1: think about those parts, so I be looking forward to it.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I just want my fans to know I must really
- 31:31Speaker 1: love y'all because I left out the house knowing I'm
- 31:36Speaker 1: spending all my kids college money anyways on y'all. Anyways, well,
- 31:41Speaker 1: a little bit of it, just smidge it.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Yep.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I got a question, What's what's some advice you will
- 31:49Speaker 1: get a songwriter? A songwriter discouraged a little bit sometimes
- 31:52Speaker 1: like advice, But why is he discouraged them? Sometimes you
- 31:58Speaker 1: take his records.
- 32:00Speaker 9: The room, but he'd be mad sometimes get certain rooms
- 32:03Speaker 9: or like somebody might cut the record, but it don't
- 32:06Speaker 9: get placed.
- 32:06Speaker 1: So it's like, you know, it's still that.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Right now.
- 32:10Speaker 9: Yeah, he's still dolding, still wanna be like he wanted
- 32:14Speaker 9: your idols.
- 32:15Speaker 1: So it's like I just figured, I, well, the onus
- 32:18Speaker 1: is on him at the end of the day, because
- 32:20Speaker 1: on any song songwriter, you have to write yourself into
- 32:23Speaker 1: that room. Mm you know, yeah, cause if you're looking
- 32:27Speaker 1: for somebody else to know what you're doing, they're not
- 32:30Speaker 1: gonna get it. That's That's what I meant about me
- 32:32Speaker 1: making an album in the first place, so I could
- 32:34Speaker 1: showcase a thing, A variety of a thing that I do,
- 32:39Speaker 1: they can look at it be like, yo, I'll take
- 32:41Speaker 1: a number two with surprise, like like, yo, let me
- 32:43Speaker 1: give on them shots of ten. Don't like but if
- 32:46Speaker 1: I don't do that album, you don't even know what
- 32:48Speaker 1: I know how to do, right, You don't know what
- 32:50Speaker 1: I do. It took people forever to even though I
- 32:52Speaker 1: was actually doing the tracks to these days like, people
- 32:55Speaker 1: didn't know forever and so, which I didn't mind because
- 33:00Speaker 1: to my point, keeping relationships is my number one goal
- 33:04Speaker 1: and so and on the second second part of that
- 33:06Speaker 1: is just more so write yourself into the room and
- 33:09Speaker 1: all of that ship is practiced because you don't want
- 33:11Speaker 1: to get in there early. Anyway you get in there early,
- 33:14Speaker 1: it's like going to box. You're gonna come box against me.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I've been going crazy. You ain't never getting on the
- 33:21Speaker 1: album like you just not like you never get on
- 33:25Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not letting you on like and I
- 33:27Speaker 1: not like because I don't want you to.
- 33:29Speaker 4: I want you to.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Push me to be like. So you know, you see
- 33:33Speaker 1: them beat records and you're like, yo, that dream on
- 33:35Speaker 1: that twelve times, it ain't cost me and be friends
- 33:37Speaker 1: like that. She loved me. That's my sister. She's like,
- 33:40Speaker 1: you better bring them joints just that they ain't slapping.
- 33:45Speaker 1: You're gonna see dream on here.
- 33:46Speaker 4: One time, the dream on ball Yo.
- 33:50Speaker 1: The world that way, guys, the world facts go love
