- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome back, Golf Psycho, to the Golf Psycho podcast.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: I'm Carlos Benavides, mental game coach out of Austin, Texas.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to be doing a meditation specifically designed to get you out of the downward spiral in the middle of a round.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: We're going to be doing a 4-4 breath, four seconds inhale, four seconds exhale in order to calm our nervous system and get us back into playing good golf.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Lori's going to guide us.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: It's going to have a two-minute mark where the song changes and it's going to continue to five minutes.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So if all you need is two minutes, you can stop there.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: And if you're practicing at home and you want to do the full five minutes, that's available to you as well.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: All right, thank you for joining.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Let's go ahead and take an inhale and together to start off with.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Hold it, and now exhale.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Now inhale for one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four, inhale, one, two, three, four, exhale, one, two, three, four.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Good job.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Now let your breath come back to normal.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Good.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Just notice.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Give yourself some gratitude for practicing that.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: If you need to go again, go again.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: And when you're ready, yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Well done.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Fantastic, friends, right?
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: So, again, we're gonna use this in case we need it on the course.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: If you're practicing at home, which I highly, highly recommend.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Without practicing this at home, it's not gonna be as strong as it could be on the course, right?
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: So, as Lori always says, we want to practice this at home under our conditions, under our terms, so that when we are experiencing a little bit of fight or flight, a bit of a nervous fright on the course, we have it available to us, right?
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: So if we do it when we're calm, it's gonna be available to us when we need it, when we're not calm.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be very difficult to try to develop this practice once we're already riled up on the course, right?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: So share this with a friend.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Be sure to save this so that you can come back to it every single time you're on the course and you go, oh, I'm having a meltdown, I'm having a freakout, or funny stuff is happening on the course.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: You'll be glad that you have this saved so that you can come back to it, use it.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: I highly recommend that you keep it for those two minutes and use the five minutes at home if you need it.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're on the course and you have five minutes available to you.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're finding yourself agitated with the group in front of you and you're getting upset and impatient and going through that whole ordeal.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Then this is a good moment to kind of throw this on, maybe do the full five minutes.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: But it's a very, very powerful tool that you can use to kind of bring yourself back and you're gonna notice that the play resumes or your composure comes back, the smile comes back.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, there may be even a tendency to not want to do this.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: That was one of the things that I went through when we were on the course doing this.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And once you're upset, once you're riled up, it may be one of the last things that you need to do.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Want to do, should I say, I'm sorry?
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: And so getting around to doing it when you're upset can be a bit of a challenge.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: But if you can push past those feelings and do something new and uh spark a new neural pathway in your brain that says, I'm okay with reverting to my breath into a quick meditation to get myself in order.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: That's a great practice to begin.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: It's a great new neural pathway in your brain that can get developed that says this is safe to do.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So the best of luck.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Get back out there, play some good golf.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: You've got it in you.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Congratulate yourself, pat yourself on the back for getting back out there and doing this meditation.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Last thing before we go, just notice this unease in your hands and place that awareness in your hands because if your hands are what connected the club, that's the heart of your connection to the club, right?
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: So Greens and Fairways, my friends.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Go out there and get it.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: You got this.
