- 0:02Oh say, can you see by the dodger lead like, what's so proudly?
- 0:17We hail at the flight's last week, food brush drives in fragstars through
- 0:27the barrel less fight or the ram park we watched warsail, gallons, lee
- 0:36streaming, and the rockets red glare, the bumpering in gay brew through the
- 0:47guy that our flag was still there? Oh say, does that star bangle
- 0:56banner yet? Way the land and out the free and the home of the
- 1:08bread musters. There we go a little low, little pitch of some spots
- 1:17there. Hey, I'll tell you what the end of that Well, it's
- 1:21still playing. I wanted you to get up there. You have to get
- 1:26up there on that high note. Nope, I'll tell you what the end
- 1:30of that song. Fuck you Clemson band, you fucked that up. At
- 1:36the end of that they mess it up so bad, tell them Dak.
- 1:42Just just a lot to unpack here with Dak singing the national anthem for his
- 1:46punishment and having to write down the lyrics. First off, had to write
- 1:51him down to make sure he did not mess him up. A lot of
- 1:55pressure on the last time I sang I messed him up. Well, you
- 2:04got it done with dak You got your punishment done with punishment you put on
- 2:07yourself. Really seeing you guys in the background was not easy because I was
- 2:13trying so hard to keep it. So it's great and for the people listening,
- 2:20you guys will have the audio in the background. Austin and I didn't,
- 2:23so we heard it acapella. Like the whole time, we get no
- 2:28idea of what was going on. We just heard the acapella version. That
- 2:32guy needed that. I needed that laugh. I needed that tonight. I
- 2:37I almost forgot about the sorrow that we just witnessed. Almost almost but not
- 2:45quite. It's a shame about you missed last week. Hunter was sick.
- 2:51Yeah, I was on my deathbed. Yeah, that one would have been
- 2:53a little more fun. But we're what about half hour after Nebraska loses to
- 3:01Rutgers, guess what on the road in overtime after losing to Iowa on the
- 3:10road getting Dick stomped by Iowa. But Austin opening thoughts well on our way
- 3:21to another five hundred season. Gosh, it just you really pissed the momentum
- 3:30you had after Purdue like Iowa. Losing Iowa really hurt. But when you
- 3:37followed up with another loss. Two losses have to be the number one team,
- 3:39Like you hope to build off of that, build a resume, But
- 3:43gosh, we just played like shit that whole light. Both these teams are
- 3:51gonna do elementary school drills to start the next practice. Nebraskan do rebounding and
- 3:54Rutgers can do free throws. Yeah, Dak for outsider, what do you
- 4:00think of the game? Do you watch most of it? Yeah? I
- 4:02watched it all. I don't if Nebraska could just rebound the ball or would
- 4:09they go ten minutes out scoring without making a field goal. Yeah, it's
- 4:13like forge end of the game, which that sounds familiar. What they twenty
- 4:17six offensive rebounds? That's insane and I mean late it was coming off of
- 4:23free throws too. Yeah. Yeah. Before we're on here, a bit
- 4:30about Josiah Alec and how I like, I really thought he's the one who
- 4:32lost it. Rank Masden no one, Rank Masden played well, but justa
- 4:36Alec was just killing us down this stretch. Couldn't get the rebounds, dumb
- 4:41fouls. Oh, he's pissing me off. Unfortunately for me it and it
- 4:50sucks because I think our football team, we've had our expectations got checked over
- 4:59and over. The basketball team really haven't had many, and so any chance
- 5:02that we think we want to get our hopes up potentially being a tournament team
- 5:09and seeing ourselves and Lunardi and Jerry Palm of CBS and bractology, it's like,
- 5:14you want to think this team's got what it takes. And you hear
- 5:16you hear John Rothstein, a national insider, and you hear some of the
- 5:21guys that know a lot about college basketball talking about this Nebraska team. But
- 5:28is it much different? I mean, after a game like this, it
- 5:30just you go back to it and you go, there's nothing different than this
- 5:34team in the past year's teams. We've had this open thought in previous years.
- 5:40Now the difference is our records a little bit better, but yeah,
- 5:43we had an easier non con so that would make sense. It's just the
- 5:47same old team, the same inconsistency that we see out of Fred Hoiberg's team's
- 5:53year after year. And I guess what's your guys's hunch as to why,
- 5:59like why does this happened to Fred's teams? I mean, especially here Nebraska,
- 6:02when we've been paying more closer attention to him I mean, obviously part
- 6:09of it is just turnover, like we just always have. We're always putting
- 6:14together new pieces of players from like whull roster wise, and you hope this
- 6:18year wasn't that way. I think that's a fair point. I think it's
- 6:23very very fair. And so Robins just goes so stagnant at the end,
- 6:29like when you get a lead, you just go stagnant. You don't do
- 6:30what you did to get that lead. Do you guys know what Tim Miles
- 6:36record was when he got fired. Pretty good. It wasn't great, but
- 6:43it's better than Fred Hoiberg's ever been. Oh yeah, We've talked about Fred's
- 6:47record on this podcast several times, like it it's for being the whatever he
- 6:53is, top twenty paid coach in the country. I mean, it's horrific.
- 6:58I really thought, I I don't want to sell out already on the
- 7:02team, because that's not you know. I do think we have a good
- 7:05chance, not good chance, we have a chance to make the tournament.
- 7:09But gosh, if Red stumbles down, if he ends five hundred, do
- 7:14you have to fire him or what? I mean that that would be the
- 7:17obviously ending five hundred overall record at this point would mean going like twenty five
- 7:25percent or lower the Big Ten. I mean, I agree with you on
- 7:28that, because how many total games is there in the season thirty two,
- 7:32thirty thirty summer between thirty thirty two kind of depends on how many tournaments you
- 7:36play. Early on, yeah, you know you mentioned the NCAA tournament.
- 7:44Cocker thought, like, right now it is you could basically x out and
- 7:47maybe even take a step below after that win. It gets Purdue losing to
- 7:51Iowa. Now Rutgers, who at the time right now is the worst team
- 7:58in the Big Ten. We obviously had the loss to Minnesota on the road
- 8:03too. And the part that I'm struck going to struggle with now is Juan
- 8:07Gary not knowing officially but potentially being out the rest of the year with the
- 8:13non contact leg injury. You kind of had an injury bugs too well.
- 8:20And yes and no like that that does happen in every year. It seems
- 8:24like there's one or two. But that speaks to a team that needs depth,
- 8:28like injuries happened to everybody. Gary losing him, while I don't think
- 8:35he's like as important as rank mast I think is you saw what happened to
- 8:41our rebounding when he went down and out like it that that end. I
- 8:46mean it was bad. Now, give credit to Rutgers and Omaruris. I
- 8:50mean, he's one of the better tougher big ten posts from a physicality standpoint,
- 8:56but I mean it was horrible, and it a guy like that,
- 9:01your chances of making the tournament go way down, especially this early on,
- 9:07still in conference play. I just don't know. I don't get it,
- 9:18and I really don't. We look great against Purdue and maybe Perdue's a little
- 9:22bit overrated, but they're not. I mean, sure, maybe they're not
- 9:26a number one team in the country, but they're still a top ten team
- 9:30in the country. You'd assume, and we handled a seven foot four guy,
- 9:35why can't we handle do? We just need a game plan around always
- 9:39doubling up post and playing on getting beat on the outside, and that's how
- 9:43we're gonna win games, regardless of how good their post players are. I
- 9:46don't know well, and I think you see teams the way we're defending this
- 9:50year, which I think has its moments. It's very fource baseline double posts
- 9:58from the from the low side, I bring the help side defender and then
- 10:01rotate out of the out of the trap. We're doing a lot of that
- 10:05now. I think some teams are finding efficient ways to beat it. Tonight
- 10:09Ruggers did a good job. I thought of bringing that backside other forward down
- 10:15and basically ceiling off our help the helper defender even for rebounding purposes. Right,
- 10:22So like teams are figuring that part out, I think a little bit.
- 10:24And because the defensive based so much on schematics versus opposing teams personnel and
- 10:33scout, like, if you find a way to beat it, it's not
- 10:35gonna be great. I don't know. Again, the difference between the home
- 10:43and the road like that to me is like you mentioned Purdue, and I
- 10:46agree with you, like that Purdues still probably the best team in the Big
- 10:50Ten conference, and we beat them at home, but we cannot go on
- 10:54the road and play well. Look, look, and I guess Dak for
- 10:58what you know on sports, like why I and playing basketball the Big Ten
- 11:03on the road is it is what it is. If there's obviously a lot
- 11:07of tough road environments in any sport. But what what's the difference. Well,
- 11:13then I think it helps here, Like like that guy tonight that got
- 11:18the goggles. He's what do you say? He was one for nineteen come
- 11:20in the game. It just gives guys more confidence like that they can just
- 11:24make shots of the crowd behind and everything. That guy hit two threes.
- 11:28He look, I swear a guy could be in one on one one of
- 11:31the worst players I've ever saw in my life hit two threes. There's no
- 11:35shot in healthy plays if he goes nebrask he hits rim. I don't know,
- 11:39ye is there like an actual like three point like I could see like
- 11:43just like there's a legit difference between at home and on there at three point
- 11:48percentage in the second half of our game and we were like forty. There's
- 11:52like forty three or forty four percent at home and we're like thirty one or
- 11:58thirty two percent on the road. That's a big difference because we shoot a
- 12:01lot of threes. We do. We're the highest three point shooting team in
- 12:07the conference. And I think that speaks to Hoiberg style a little bit.
- 12:11But they're they're they're coming overall better this year, like better quality shots,
- 12:16and I think that speaks to again the system that we're running a lot on
- 12:20offense. I think has its moments that it's good. But the problem is
- 12:24it's not consistent either. End is consistent to win a game on the road
- 12:30in the Big Ten. And to me, schematics are great. They're great,
- 12:35especially in basketball and football any sport. You can X and O and
- 12:41draw things up except for maybe with three seconds left, we'll talk about that.
- 12:45You can you can do all of that. Great, But if your
- 12:48team is not mentally tough and have the right frame of mind going into any
- 12:54game, but especially on the road, when all the cards are against you,
- 12:58you are not not gonna win a lot of those games. And you
- 13:03see that with our our football team to our basketball team, they fold.
- 13:09They don't know how to respond to adversity. The only guy that I think
- 13:13has a little bit and that because I don't think he knows any better his
- 13:16case, like he's so scatterbrain that like I think Sam's pretty much Sam Sam.
- 13:22Sam's a player. But a lot of these other guys, it's just
- 13:26as a team, we just do not know how to respond and end to
- 13:30run no, like, yeah, the crowd's gonna be going nuts, but
- 13:33get the stop where you need to get a stop right, execute an offensive
- 13:37set when you need to on the road to get a win. And I
- 13:41kept texting people before the game. You don't need to win impressively on the
- 13:46road right now, like not not where we're at. There's no reason you
- 13:52win. And it looked like it was gonna be ugly. Maybe we'll find
- 13:54a way to squeak it out, but nope, late in the game,
- 13:58can't get a rebound, couldn't get a stop when on our scoring drought,
- 14:01and then you find ourselves in the loser again. Oh my gosh. Yeah,
- 14:05so I don't know. I guess I don't know where I'm going with
- 14:11Husker basketball. Now. You don't want to write them off completely, But
- 14:15at the same time, it's like, why why should if we at this
- 14:18point, I mean, outside of us going on a nice run, say
- 14:22we win. So what we have? We are thirteen and five, is
- 14:30that right? Yep? Yeah? Thirteen and five, So we say eighteen
- 14:35games left? Yeah, so we got fifteen games if we finish out nine
- 14:39and six, I mean, I guess when win the home games. We've
- 14:46proven that we can be anybody in the conference at home, So win those,
- 14:50and then we gotta find a way to win a road game or two
- 14:52or three. This would have been one that you would I would have had
- 14:56a higher chance of winning than some of the others, but we we don't,
- 15:01so I guess, I mean, if you want to look at it
- 15:05from that stance. But the team's mental psyche after games, I mean big
- 15:13games that we win and games that we lose. And I don't know the
- 15:20answer what this is. They have to be in the right frame of mind
- 15:24going into the next game. And I sent you guys as this tweet or
- 15:30photo after the Purdue win. And I'm not blaming Bryce Williams and calling him
- 15:35a front runner. I guess are a bad person because he said this,
- 15:39But after we beat Purdue, he said, we're not worried about blah bla
- 15:41blah, worried about winning the national or trying to prepare to win a national
- 15:43championship. Like come on, like that if we are thinking that we are,
- 15:50They're like, we know, we go beat Iowa on the road and
- 15:56Rutgers on the road and then maybe winning a tournament game, But that just
- 16:02tells where our mind is. That after beating Purdue, we're like, oh,
- 16:04we're really freaking good, and so maybe we don't practice it quite as
- 16:07hard, or maybe we don't think we have to box out quite as hard.
- 16:11No, you have to do all those things in the game of basketball
- 16:14to win, especially in the Big Ten, where night after night you're gonna
- 16:18get a team's best shot. Well, and then we beat Purdue, so
- 16:21then people are going to take us little more seriously, Like opposing teams are
- 16:26going to prepare a little harder, gonna be like, yeah, fuck these
- 16:27guys. They think they're hot shit because they beat Purdue. Watch just stomp
- 16:30them out instead of looking at that and going, oh crap, what was
- 16:36us? And now they're gonna give us our best shot. No, take
- 16:37it as the opportunity of all. Right, now we got to step our
- 16:41game up the next level because other teams are going to play it's tougher.
- 16:45And I just don't know that Fred's teams, including I feel like Fred's mindset
- 16:51is maybe a little bit better. I listened to him after the Purdue game.
- 16:53I thought his interview specifically was very down to earth and very real of
- 17:00where the team's out of getting you know, getting back and preparing two days
- 17:03for Iowa. But I don't know what the team was like that and I
- 17:07I whatever celebrate from the court have fun, but you have to know how
- 17:12to respond to that. And if you don't, I'm not saying don't storm
- 17:17the court, but have fun with it, but don't don't go overboard.
- 17:22Don't That's that? That was not our That was not our NCAA tournament game.
- 17:26Was that a great win? One of the best that we've had?
- 17:30Great, it's awesome, But is that is are we are we after beating
- 17:34Purdue? Is that what we want? We want one of those wins?
- 17:37Or do we want to win a tournament game? What's our goal here?
- 17:38So yeah, celebrate it, have fun, but your mind can get away
- 17:42from what we're trying to accomplish. And I just feel like these guys put
- 17:47themselves on a pedestal and said, yeah, we're pretty fucking good, and
- 17:49therefore we come out and now play two shitty games, I mean horrible,
- 17:53horrible games. And beating Purdue is great. We had a great win against
- 17:59k State. What do we do after K State? We came out and
- 18:00looked like shit? You play well against Oregon State? What do you do?
- 18:03You come late and gets crepy. It's the same pattern this year,
- 18:07but previous years to have a great win, play like shit. Some I
- 18:11just don't know that Hoiberg and the staff know how to consistently get the guys
- 18:17in the frame of mind who say no, like this is what we need
- 18:19to do, we need to win this game. Like again, whatever that
- 18:23frame of mind is, that's part of coaching and understanding your team and your
- 18:26players and where they need to be. But you're riot those guys tonight,
- 18:30just guys Rutgers bad. They're not good like they are bad. Mm hmm.
- 18:38That'd be a loss. Come back to bite you on your resume at
- 18:41the end of the year. Thanks Stack, Yes, it will be Yes,
- 18:45Okay, I was gonna get I was gonna get back to Bryce Williams
- 18:48though. Why I've noticed this a couple of games. He starts out so
- 18:52hot beginning of the game and then just disappears. Yeah, he's done that
- 18:56a couple of times. I don't know where he goes. But he found
- 19:00out hot this game and then I don't know if they scour again. He
- 19:04felled out at some point. Now him, he was in the all the
- 19:08way to the end. I thought he felled out. Now Masked and Alex
- 19:14both filed out and will cut left. So here's a deal with this team.
- 19:22If you were to rank all these guys in the scale of one to
- 19:25ten, just they're not specifics, but just overall, a ten out of
- 19:30tens the best ten players in college basketball, and a one out of ten
- 19:33is the worst. Right, Like a lot of these guys about all of
- 19:38our top We got a lot of guys beween, four and six. I
- 19:42was gonna say, we have a lot of fours. We have a lot
- 19:45of five, six and sevens, right, A lot of guys like even
- 19:48Tomanaka, I give him a seven like quality a shooter, he's a ten,
- 19:52right, But but when it comes torom the other parts of the game
- 19:56that diminishes him, he's probably an overall he to seven. Right, William
- 20:00shows that he could be a seven or an eight at times, and there's
- 20:02times that he shows he's not masked. He's a solid seven, six or
- 20:04seven like Wilcher. He's a shooter, he's probably five or six, like
- 20:08all these guys are right there. And then when it comes to these games,
- 20:12right, you're relying on a system to win you games. But as
- 20:15we all know watching the game of basketball, NBA, college, any level,
- 20:21you need a freaking stud, a go to person that says, we
- 20:25are going I'm going to win you the game. It doesn't mean you're gonna
- 20:27go score every time, but the ball is gonna be in this person's hands
- 20:30and they are going to either create a shot for themselves or create something on
- 20:34offense for somebody else to score. And right now, like at the end
- 20:40of that game, I'm like, I don't really know, like who's gonna
- 20:44like it ended up being Bryce Williams. I think a couple of times,
- 20:45well what does he do? It dribbles office fucking foot and then mass tries
- 20:48to save it as it goes whatever like it it. I don't know,
- 20:53Like that's blessing. And then the negative with this team is that, yeah,
- 21:00we're solid, like we're your team felt better than this year's team.
- 21:04It really did it from a from a guy get a bucket, yeah,
- 21:11But the counter to that, though, is then you get those guys trying
- 21:15to quote unquote get theirs, and it disrupts the flow and the scheme.
- 21:21The you know the fine line between that, because we've obviously seen the Alonso
- 21:23brges and its Alonso verge, so it's a fine line between the two.
- 21:37This team just does not again from a consistency standpoint, know how to be
- 21:42tough enough to win on the road. Now we may come out Saturday against
- 21:47Northwestern at home and play really well and win. Like I wouldn't be shocked
- 21:51by it at all. It's just again that what this team does and and
- 21:56I does that help your resume? Yes, but right now potentially not having
- 22:00Juan Gary that hurts a lot more than people think. And it's not gonna
- 22:08bode well like some of the metrics. Metrics do not like Nebraska right now,
- 22:14like at all, even with the Purdue win, like, they don't
- 22:17like Nebraska. The eye test is what's getting us in people's projections, it's
- 22:22not the metrics, and losses like this are only gonna kill them. Yep,
- 22:29I agree. Worst part is the women's women aren't doing much better either.
- 22:33They're like the exact same. Yeah, there's there's one more guy.
- 22:37I remember, JaMarcus Lawrence was not awful last year. What they'll happen to
- 22:41him? He can't buy a bucket that that's that's a very good thought because
- 22:48he is one guy that came on the end of late last year. Like
- 22:52you said, last game against Iowa, they actually I think it looked like
- 22:57it was a designed setter too ran for him to get him shots because they
- 23:02want to get him going. And I do think for this team to get
- 23:06to that next step offensively he does. He needs to get six or eight
- 23:10points for us. He just does not everything looks fine, Like a shot
- 23:17looks fine. He's getting clean looks. They're they're just not falling. And
- 23:21I don't know if that's a mental thing or what, but I agree with
- 23:23you he's someone that we need a little bit of production on at the point
- 23:29guard position. I will say, you know, we talked about Fred and
- 23:30how he brings some transfers. I don't know if honestly now, I don't
- 23:37follow a lot of college basketball teams outside of Nebraska, so I don't know
- 23:41if it's a thing across to all college basketball teams. But is Fred good
- 23:44at developing basketball players? I have no idea. I haven't there's I would
- 23:49say probably not, Like like from an average looking back people that he's had
- 23:55for several years. I don't know if I've ever felt like, man,
- 23:57I can see this guy making leaps outside of I will say our free throw
- 24:00shooting this year way better than last year. Yeah, that's that's improved a
- 24:04lot. When they walk the line, you at least have confident they're gonna
- 24:08You're confident they're making them both. Last year you're like, there's no shot
- 24:11in hell we're maybe gonna get one of these. Yeah. And I think
- 24:15that speaks to Fred's style of recruiting, the transfer portal, how he was
- 24:22kind of ahead of that. Now a lot more teams are doing it.
- 24:26There's a lot more common. I think that is part of I mean,
- 24:32if you know you're gonna have and bring in these transfer portal type recruits every
- 24:38year, your mind isn't as focused on a guy like JaMarcus Lawrence last year
- 24:45now he's a freshman, did a lot of good things for you. Now
- 24:48he's a sophomore. But I mean trending for a guy like that, what
- 24:52what where do you where? Where? What do you think you have to
- 24:55give a chance of JaMarcus Lawrence staying in Nebraska four years? What is it
- 25:00right now? It's it's it's like ten percent. It just not. I
- 25:07mean that's with or without Hoybrook staying here. He's a typical guy. It's
- 25:11to me, he's like, all right, after two years, you know
- 25:14we're not winning I'll go try somewhere else. But that's also today's environment too,
- 25:18so you have to balance that. But I'm with you, like,
- 25:21I what what are we doing to develop or is it surely all just scheme
- 25:25guys who are developed from smaller schools, mass mass guys. It's still the
- 25:33freaking blue to this whole team. And when you're when you're glue is in
- 25:37eight different places like he was tonight, it's not gonna look good. And
- 25:42why did he block out once? Yeah, I don't know if he was
- 25:47sick or tie it. He did not look as physical as he did obviously
- 25:52against Edie. But I mean Omaruri just kicked his ass, I mean,
- 25:57bottom line, and that other guy posted too, like they just kicked his
- 26:02ass, plain and simple on both ends and offensively, you know, he
- 26:07could not get anything going at the rim and and I mean had a couple
- 26:12of open looks late didn't hit him either. So he's the guy that you
- 26:17know needs to keep us together. It's him and and I think obviously getting
- 26:22a little more production from Lawrence is gonna need to happen. Casey is gonna
- 26:26be case Wilter is gonna be Wheelcher. But with Gary out Mast has to
- 26:33be the one to hold us together because Josiah Alec is the opposite of that.
- 26:37He's like a loose cannon. He just with development. There is a
- 26:42guy that's gotten better from last year. That's Whelchair, that's true, but
- 26:45he kind of dipped last year. Have you like last year he regressed.
- 26:51Filter is like, I mean, case streaky too. Wilcher is like either
- 26:56he's on or he's not. Like he's been that way as he's put a
- 27:00lot more on this year though, yep, and I agree with that,
- 27:06but he he just goes on spurts and like right now he's shooting the crap
- 27:11out of it. He basically wasn't playing by the end of last year,
- 27:14right because he's playing so bad that he correct correct And I got to mention
- 27:18Sam guys hating the Game's a couple of huge shots and overtime like that.
- 27:25The kid's a freaking warrior. He called me. Scott Frost called people warriors.
- 27:29He just he taller man. He'd be an NBA prospect. I still
- 27:33hate it when he drives to the rim. I just hate it. It
- 27:34just it makes me cringe. But god, he makes plays on the defensive
- 27:38end. He just battles his ass off, very fun to watch, so
- 27:45have to give him a shout out to. I mean, he's he's doing
- 27:47everything he can to keep his dad's job here at Nebraska. He's he's trying,
- 27:51honestly, You're not wrong, that's one hundred percent part of it.
- 27:56He's got a little extra motivation. And the rest of the guys, I
- 27:59wasn't I was not there last year. Did you guys want Voliburg gone after
- 28:02last year by the end of last year? No? Going into last year?
- 28:07Yes, yeah, he saved his job at the end, but I
- 28:10mean he went, like I don't remember what it was, six and three
- 28:14down the stretch, being a couple of ranked teams. So if they didn't
- 28:17layn egg during the Big Ten tournament, I mean, we felt good at
- 28:19the end of last year, and maybe that'll happen this year. Fingers crossed.
- 28:25Let's move on. I'm tired, tired talking about this freaking past.
- 28:27But we can go positive here and go Husker football here. So it's been
- 28:32a couple of weeks we have been on since obviously getting Dylan Roola so that
- 28:37was big, the big Simmy, the big news in the off season,
- 28:41but it's being followed up by some guys. Now I'm caveating all of this
- 28:48recruiting stuff by saying all recruiting is if someone's opinion on how good they think
- 28:56someone is with every week is a freaking game changer. Man. Every single
- 29:03player is made out to be the most talented recruit we ever get. So
- 29:10you want to look at on a comparison thing from a from a national level
- 29:15or not that much higher than we are previously, Like we're a little higher,
- 29:18we are, but it's not a whole lot. We have done quote
- 29:23unquote an impressive job in the portal. Name off these six guys here that
- 29:29we've gotten that we're kind of all our six targets quote unquote, and we've
- 29:34gotten a so bly Hill cornerback, the linebacker sponsor to Thompson, offensive lineman
- 29:44mic Up mazook oh Muscula Mazuoka there, running back Dante Dowdell from Oregon,
- 29:55and then two receiver gets Jamal Banks from Wake Forest and Isaiah Nayer from Texas
- 30:00and Wyoming the past couple of years. So those are guys that should help
- 30:03us, right, they should hopefully play a part. And all I've seen
- 30:07is depth charts, like of these guys where they're gonna fit on Like Jesus
- 30:11Christ, people like we don't know, these guys haven't been on campus yet,
- 30:15like feel the fuck out. Yeah, but you could tell that offense
- 30:21was like we need better players on offense. Just QB one on those depth
- 30:26Chartsla always Roola, Yeah, nope, Harbburg there or perty transfer immediately have
- 30:34his coach get hired somewhere else. Guys, it's it's gonna be Royola.
- 30:41And and you're right, like at the end of at the end of this
- 30:44last year, how how it ended it? As we know, and I'm
- 30:49stealing this from another podcast they listen to, But I liked it. If
- 30:52real had to make a checklist, if you're the things that I want to
- 30:56do, I gotta keep my defensive coordinator Tony White, Okay, check that
- 31:03was number one thing. Got it done? Okay, Then you gotta go
- 31:07say, okay, let's look at what was horrible? Is here? Our
- 31:08offense was horrific? Why, well, I don't know, let's see could
- 31:14could be players? Okay, So let's let's go find some guys. Okay,
- 31:21we're doing that. We're we've got a running back we've got two wide
- 31:23receivers, we got a quarterback. Okay, Now I wouldn't say getting Dylan
- 31:27Roola was on the checklist. No, so no, probably a bonus that
- 31:33you get from so great. So we're doing that, good job Rule.
- 31:38Now part oh, other part to that on our offense is Okay, let's
- 31:44let's look at our offensive staff. Are we doing the things that we want
- 31:47to do as a program. Do we need to bring some other guys in
- 31:51that will help us offensively from a scheming standpoint? Okay, we're doing that.
- 31:56We get another offensive coordinator on the staff. Still don't know where Dana
- 32:00Holgerson or what the hell the deal is with him? An a QB coach,
- 32:05ANQB coach. So we're doing all these things now, that's great,
- 32:08Like we're checking things off the checklist. That's awesome, that's great. What
- 32:14it's going to come down to are are the guys and is the system and
- 32:16the people that we're bringing in and you know, the decision to keep Tony
- 32:22White, Like are those the right guys? And can you put the puzzle
- 32:27pieces together in the correct way to do it? Remember Rule's first guy that
- 32:31he goes and gets last year, first guy. I want to bring this
- 32:37guy in Nebraska to be my quarterback with Jeff Sims. And I'm not judging
- 32:44everything with rule on one person, but that's how he started at Nebraska with
- 32:49Britain. That was his quarterback he wanted to start. Now, may have
- 32:52been limited at the time, maybe give him a little bit of credit there,
- 32:57but these guys still have they still have to produce people Like it's not
- 33:01like everything is fucking fixed because we got them to come to Nebraska, that's
- 33:06what. But we we don't have an excuse. You have everything you want,
- 33:10you guys. You can say that for years though with Husker football.
- 33:14We've had the facilities, we've had every we've had every reason to be good.
- 33:19But now you have this quarterback. It's always been our quarterback's not good.
- 33:27Was the acy Thompson was the answer. Jeff Sims going into last year
- 33:32was the answer. Adrian Adrian was the answer. Like these guys were these
- 33:40guys were now from a star standpoint, no, we haven't. But again,
- 33:46I don't stars are stars like whatever. I I just don't. I
- 33:51don't. I I don't value stars like maybe some people do. With recruiting,
- 33:58I recruiting intrigues me. It's it's kind of fun because you can put
- 34:01numbers to it and compare across programs like but I mean, the best thing
- 34:07you feel good about is like Banks, he's coming in and you saw his
- 34:09production at wake Forest. It's like, oh, he's actually done it on
- 34:13the field. That's what you feel okay about. Yes, so what you're
- 34:17saying kind of yeah, I mean kind of. But like Billy Kemp,
- 34:21we're like, Okay, Billy Camp's gonna be the guy he did he did
- 34:23you know, he look at him at Virginia. He did stuff at Virginia
- 34:27and and we got quite the same level. Was got. Yeah he's gone.
- 34:36I think I don't know. Yeah, So that that's just that's just
- 34:42my whole feel on recruiting, Like is it great it, yes, have
- 34:47enjoy it, but comes down to winning winning winning games, not not winning
- 34:53the spring game, like winning football games in the fall. Hype train off
- 35:00this this spring game is gonna be awesome. I mean, yeah, it's
- 35:05already there. Whatever, I just get sicky here at Stars. I just
- 35:10stars are fine. Whatever. Look go look at all the NFL quarterbacks right
- 35:15now that are in the playoffs. Still every single one of them, and
- 35:20tell me how many stars they had coming out of high school. That's your
- 35:27home, that's your homework. That's your homework that I saw though, Like,
- 35:30there's thirty five five star quarterbacks in the last ten years. Lamar might
- 35:36have been a four that were eligible to keep be drafted or something. Was
- 35:39it ten years, seven years, I remember what the timeframe was. But
- 35:44out of the thirty five, seventeen of them were in the NFL. Go
- 35:47just that's your homework. Out of the starting quarterbacks left and then and the
- 35:52NFL playoffs, there's eight teams left right there. Eight? Yes, tell
- 35:59me what there's stars are? The height My boy was zero. I'll tell
- 36:04you right now. Tua was a five star. He's gone. And then
- 36:09there's that. I won't spoil spoil your guys research what uh? What?
- 36:16Who do you guys got? FIFA playoffs right now? Eighteen? One more
- 36:21note about fans for portal see you guys big Oklahoma fans now or what?
- 36:25No, he's your boys, your boys are quarterback now? Yeah? What
- 36:31what do you think of that? Like he said he's coming to be the
- 36:35backup. I say he's not starting, No, which I'll take him as
- 36:40our backup. That's a hell of a backup. I'm with you that.
- 36:45I mean, I'd take him as a backup. I would. I want
- 36:49to do with Oklahoma football deck. So no NFL wise, though, I
- 37:00want, I want all upsets. Give me the Texans, Give me the
- 37:02Packers. Give me I don't know who's favorite of the Chiefs, Buffalo Bills
- 37:08game Bills. Bills are by two and a half. M give me the
- 37:15Bills. Patrick Mahomes first road playoff game insane outside of neutral site Super Bowls,
- 37:23of course. Oh boy, give me anyone about the Packers. I
- 37:30I hate them. I'm ryan with the Oh Buccaneers for sure. I'm rying
- 37:36with yeah, give me the Bucks too, Yeah, I love I want
- 37:39the Packers to win because I freaking hate Aaron Rodgers. And if they just
- 37:44go on to the NFC Championship the year after he leaves, like how great?
- 37:47The Bucks are not good? Oh, they're not watching them, Like
- 37:52the SATs kicked their ass late in the year and then they won nine to
- 37:57nothing to secure their spot and they play goals team that's just beat up the
- 38:01ship. Okay, if Baker played great, that game is here. Trey
- 38:05Palmer ripped off of Teddy. He woke up mad. Jurgens had two penalties.
- 38:13Last comment on that, Kim Kim and Levonte David both had penalties on
- 38:16the same play. I'm like Jesus rub it in Nebraska football space a little
- 38:22more. All Right, Well, we'll be back Dak. You want to
- 38:28sing a closing national anthem to or not? Nope, I'm good. Okay,
- 38:35we will be back here in a week or two. See if we're
- 38:37any happier with Usterer basketball. Probably not. Hopefully go back Red you are,
- 38:45move more sooner. T
