- 0:13Speaker 1: Acts Podcast. I got my guy Roman, Deacon, Uncle Harper,
- 0:19Speaker 1: I got so many nicknames for you. Bro. We're like,
- 0:21Speaker 1: I could just we could talk about your age and
- 0:23Speaker 1: everything all day. You my co host. You might like
- 0:26Speaker 1: you robbing or Batman. I'm definitely um, I think you Batman.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'll be robbing. I would try, and I would prefer
- 0:32Speaker 1: dark wing. But you know, if you want me to
- 0:34Speaker 1: be robbing, I could be a new age dropping. It's
- 0:36Speaker 1: all good. But yeah, man, you're like my little side kick.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We go back and forth. You know, I am sidekick
- 0:41Speaker 1: because you know I'm younger than you. So that's the
- 0:44Speaker 1: gist of it all. If you're not younger than you,
- 0:46Speaker 1: you can't be a sidekick. And that batman uh situation.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So I'll tell you, Robbins, that's calm. Let's just go
- 0:53Speaker 1: ahead and thank the viewers and the listeners out there
- 0:57Speaker 1: for always tuning in consistently, and I've always appreciate them.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Always remember, though, make sure you hit the that that
- 1:02Speaker 1: like button, give us a review, and anywhere else you know,
- 1:06Speaker 1: you know, tell a friend to tell a friend to
- 1:08Speaker 1: you know, listen to us, tune in on the Apple podcast,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I Heart Radio, or anywhere else you listen to your podcast.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We always like to thank you guys. First, let's get
- 1:16Speaker 1: that out the way. You gotta pay some bills. Let's
- 1:18Speaker 1: do that. You gotta pay the bills. But we got
- 1:21Speaker 1: a special one, you know, we got a special d
- 1:23Speaker 1: D podcast. D all all all dB all day. We
- 1:27Speaker 1: got Dear's Butler and Twine Pathea, Uh, we talked ball.
- 1:30Speaker 1: We got their their podcast, man and man, it's a
- 1:33Speaker 1: good one, y'all. Don't want to miss that one. It
- 1:35Speaker 1: was that might have been one of the best ones
- 1:37Speaker 1: a day. It's awesome because Twine, look and you know
- 1:40Speaker 1: he was We got drafted together, we worked out together.
- 1:43Speaker 1: He's one of the more confident guys you'll ever meet,
- 1:46Speaker 1: especially being in from Howard. You never would have known
- 1:49Speaker 1: that because you think he's a big school guy because
- 1:52Speaker 1: of how confident is, how great is how great his
- 1:54Speaker 1: career was. But uh, I just love because I've listened
- 1:58Speaker 1: to their podcast quite often. It's really an attaining that's
- 2:00Speaker 1: what's up. That's what's up. So, uh, your first radio row.
- 2:04Speaker 1: This is like my tenth or twelfth radio row. I've
- 2:07Speaker 1: been doing it now, I'm lying, I'm exaggerating. It's probably
- 2:10Speaker 1: like my six or seven. I've done it a few times,
- 2:12Speaker 1: not on this side, not interviewing players and talking to them. Um,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I was always the interviewee. So having done it one time,
- 2:20Speaker 1: we're wrapping things up. How how do you feel about it?
- 2:23Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of my questions will kind
- 2:25Speaker 1: of fire. Honestly, Um, I thought my dress game was
- 2:29Speaker 1: on point at times I thought I Honestly, my best
- 2:33Speaker 1: experience is that as I've got to meet all these
- 2:36Speaker 1: great players, hall of famers, current players, former players. UM,
- 2:40Speaker 1: it just always amazes me when they know my name
- 2:44Speaker 1: and I don't take granted. Yeah, I think it's the
- 2:46Speaker 1: coolest experience, and it's it even shocks my wife, like
- 2:50Speaker 1: we we met um uh oh, my gosh the coach
- 2:54Speaker 1: at Tennessee State, Uh, George, Eddie George, and Eddie George
- 2:58Speaker 1: is like, oh I know Roman, now you know to
- 3:00Speaker 1: introduce me, and my wife's like he knows you. I'm
- 3:02Speaker 1: like make just like man, I was that good for y'all.
- 3:07Speaker 1: It's amazing. But it also shows you that these guys
- 3:10Speaker 1: are football fans too. They watch it and enjoy it.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Just as much as we all do. And it's a
- 3:14Speaker 1: cool thing. Um when you get that caller, people that
- 3:18Speaker 1: you that you're such a big fan of actually know
- 3:21Speaker 1: you or that they're a big fan of you. So
- 3:22Speaker 1: that's been my my old wild moment. I'm hanging out
- 3:25Speaker 1: with John Randalls pin know what's up? Man? Aw you
- 3:27Speaker 1: doing good? I was like, damn me, remember my name?
- 3:30Speaker 1: You're Hall of Fame John. Yeah, my voice got a
- 3:32Speaker 1: little hot. Picture. I was like, hey, what's up are
- 3:34Speaker 1: you doing? Like? I just you just got excited though.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Also Orlando Pace, the creative of the pancake, Hugh Mongous
- 3:40Speaker 1: human being. They just want to throw that out there
- 3:42Speaker 1: for those that don't know Hugh Mongous human being. See
- 3:45Speaker 1: I know him because we played together, OHI, Ohio Chicago
- 3:49Speaker 1: one one year, one season, Hugh Mongous person. He's still big,
- 3:53Speaker 1: He's very very large. He's still big. Yeah. But anyways, man,
- 3:58Speaker 1: we had a great combo with Antoine drris Man. I'm
- 4:01Speaker 1: looking forward to everybody. Let's take a listen, let's ask
- 4:04Speaker 1: to the interview about that. Put let's go check it out.
- 4:14Speaker 1: All right, We're here a radio row and we are
- 4:16Speaker 1: joined with two special guests, and these guys, these two gentlemen,
- 4:21Speaker 1: it's the whole thing about the DBS. We bring it more.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think this is dB day. It's been a lot
- 4:26Speaker 1: of DBS here and uh, it's nothing but love when
- 4:28Speaker 1: they come here. Two guys that really bawled out their
- 4:30Speaker 1: whole career, Daris Butler, my man, and of course my
- 4:34Speaker 1: favorite guy Antoine. But they are number forty one another
- 4:38Speaker 1: number forty one out here. This is the guy that
- 4:40Speaker 1: did it even more than me, for longer than me
- 4:43Speaker 1: in the same draft class. Sorry, dearis, I gotta give
- 4:45Speaker 1: major love. This is we trained together. This is we
- 4:49Speaker 1: trained together. He was the first one that actually taught
- 4:52Speaker 1: me when young Jock was doing it is going down
- 4:55Speaker 1: like I never dance. But no, I've never seen this before.
- 5:01Speaker 1: We had some good times in the age. Yeah it was.
- 5:03Speaker 1: It was going crazy and this was I just got there.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I started working out. The Howard season was ended before
- 5:10Speaker 1: Alabama season. That me at HBCU when it's a little different.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You know, I'm the house. I'm trying to get my
- 5:18Speaker 1: daughter to go there. I went there a little college trips,
- 5:19Speaker 1: so yeah, man, I'm trying to I hope you go there.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So let there telling Rome about Yeah, yeah, and so
- 5:24Speaker 1: Twine like put me on game man early on the
- 5:26Speaker 1: process of training working out man. It was great times
- 5:29Speaker 1: and we followed each other's career. Man drafted in the
- 5:32Speaker 1: same year. Um, hit him a little bit later to me.
- 5:34Speaker 1: But hold on, let's get this in. So are you
- 5:37Speaker 1: guys gonna be okay because last time you guys played
- 5:41Speaker 1: against each other the super Bowl, the Super Bowl forty one.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I'm just trying to hold you back, right, great time.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It was a good time for you. Yeah, great time.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I'm glad. I'm glad somebody wanted to know if there
- 5:53Speaker 1: is there's no animals here and like that. That was
- 5:55Speaker 1: years ago. I only get mad when you break it
- 5:58Speaker 1: up because you trying to put me down. You try
- 6:00Speaker 1: to bring me down with that negative energy, and I
- 6:03Speaker 1: felt like was a slight shot at me as well.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Wait wait, wait what he's good for that? He's he's
- 6:14Speaker 1: definitely good for that. Hey, look, man, we did talk
- 6:17Speaker 1: about this. We talked about it, and you're right, Um
- 6:20Speaker 1: it was. It was a great day for me. And
- 6:22Speaker 1: a couple of years later and forty four, I actually
- 6:24Speaker 1: got my championship, by the way, and uh, credit to
- 6:27Speaker 1: you guys. You're putting up a great fight. Thank you.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So what do you you? One? One for two, one
- 6:34Speaker 1: in one, one in one, one and one and two.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Damn yeahs. So here we go. His last question I
- 6:43Speaker 1: got for Twin and this is a little bit of
- 6:45Speaker 1: a legacy thing. So, Twin you played how many years? Fourteen?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Longer than any other safety in our draft class. I
- 6:51Speaker 1: do know that it was only six other players in
- 6:55Speaker 1: our whole draft class, no matter position or player that
- 6:59Speaker 1: played longer than you. Can you name me those six,
- 7:01Speaker 1: or at least try You can tag your partner if
- 7:04Speaker 1: you need a little help to six phone a friend.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It was one defensive back for him. It's one dB.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Who's the first pick in that drift? Mario Williams, Mario Williams.
- 7:20Speaker 1: This young was third, I believe. Yeah. Jonathan Joseph South
- 7:27Speaker 1: Carolina played at Houston for extremely long time, finished his career.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Lether dude. He still lives in South Carolina now right
- 7:35Speaker 1: closer to you where you actually asked about the move
- 7:39Speaker 1: right to be there? Okay, uh, you know anybody else?
- 7:41Speaker 1: I do not. Stephen Gotkowski, the kicker. I say that
- 7:45Speaker 1: last name again. I wanted you to say. I just
- 7:49Speaker 1: wanted you to say, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 7:54Speaker 1: We got the Mata Pico. He was the d tackle. Okay,
- 7:58Speaker 1: he's a big you know what I'm talking about. And
- 8:00Speaker 1: Andrew Witworth of course, and Sam Cook the punter. Yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I mean he was picked four picks ahead of you.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Solid class, A solid class there it is. I think
- 8:13Speaker 1: the OH three class might have had some more big names.
- 8:18Speaker 1: But I'm just maybe I'm biased because I'm O three guys.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I'm just you guys were a bigger shoulder pads to back. Now.
- 8:24Speaker 1: We we brought the rougets. We came with it, so
- 8:27Speaker 1: check it. No, he looked older. I'm older, but he
- 8:31Speaker 1: looks man. That used to trip me out the first
- 8:33Speaker 1: time I've seen this guy. Please tell this story. Man.
- 8:36Speaker 1: We was in De Louke, Georgia, were training, like you said,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know how, I think I probably got there like
- 8:43Speaker 1: two or three weeks ahead or three weeks ahead, and Roman.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Roman walks in. Look at how he's looking right now,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm I'm like, my guy gotta be
- 8:57Speaker 1: at least first know the story. I'm like, okay, he
- 9:01Speaker 1: might got a phenomenal story. Or you know, you went
- 9:05Speaker 1: on the mission and he came back back. He's like, nah, man,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know, just jeans forever. Dog. Always been great dog.
- 9:15Speaker 1: It's just what it is. He's been great with eighth grade. Yeah,
- 9:19Speaker 1: it came to junior high. I got my first great
- 9:21Speaker 1: hair in my barber was like, hey, man, I got
- 9:22Speaker 1: this great hair a period. What you want to do
- 9:24Speaker 1: with it. I was like, I heard if you cut it,
- 9:25Speaker 1: you get three more, So just leave it. And it's
- 9:28Speaker 1: just it's been coming up since, so it's part of it.
- 9:32Speaker 1: So the first time I met him, the same exact
- 9:34Speaker 1: thing we met at op O back or is it
- 9:36Speaker 1: Opio uh p A excuse me. We mean at this
- 9:40Speaker 1: this conference, christial conference. We go, we do our thing,
- 9:43Speaker 1: but he's in my group. I thought he was like
- 9:46Speaker 1: o G. Then I was, you know, I'm getting ready
- 9:47Speaker 1: to call him uncing everything. For those uncle's uncle short
- 9:50Speaker 1: for uncle, So I'm you know, I'm calling He's like, oh,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know, I'm only my second here. I'm like, second year.
- 9:55Speaker 1: What in the world. God man, that dude has been
- 9:58Speaker 1: through some stress. Eve been smoking some cigarettes because black
- 10:02Speaker 1: is supposed to be that the the Harvard to be that great,
- 10:04Speaker 1: this young but we developed a relationship, you know, we
- 10:07Speaker 1: finally became teammates when we were in Carolina amazing season
- 10:12Speaker 1: Super Bowl fifty we lost. Sorry, um YouTube became teammates
- 10:16Speaker 1: right three years, two thousand, two thousand, eleven, and two thirteen.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And because I assume you guys must have formed one
- 10:23Speaker 1: hell of a friendship bond right two twelve. Okay, sorry,
- 10:30Speaker 1: you guys formed some type of a friendship, some form
- 10:32Speaker 1: of a bond right for you guys to have your
- 10:34Speaker 1: man Man podcast. So can you tell us a little
- 10:36Speaker 1: bit more about like how that how that kind of
- 10:39Speaker 1: friendship was molded, and how you built that to get
- 10:41Speaker 1: this podcast. Well, I came in obviously, you know, a
- 10:45Speaker 1: new a b from from a distance at Washington from
- 10:47Speaker 1: a distance were respected around the league, and at that time,
- 10:51Speaker 1: it was my third team in the league. So the
- 10:53Speaker 1: second around pick in New England, get cut after my
- 10:55Speaker 1: second year, spend a year in Carolina, and then this
- 10:58Speaker 1: was kind of like I sat down with Griggs in
- 10:59Speaker 1: the g him and he was kind of like, it's
- 11:01Speaker 1: gonna be a last shot, you know pretty much, that's
- 11:04Speaker 1: just the reality of it. If you don't come in
- 11:05Speaker 1: here and play, well, it's already cool. So I get
- 11:07Speaker 1: in there, I'm like, all right, it's gonna it's gonna
- 11:09Speaker 1: be my way to how we I gotta go all
- 11:10Speaker 1: in and a b was kind of it was we
- 11:13Speaker 1: called him to general in the meeting room. You know,
- 11:15Speaker 1: just always came always ahead of the game as far
- 11:17Speaker 1: as um running the meeting room. You know how important
- 11:20Speaker 1: meeting rooms are young players, and just seeing that, just
- 11:23Speaker 1: respecting that and wanting to learn from that just kind
- 11:26Speaker 1: of gravitated towards him. And then once he moved on
- 11:28Speaker 1: and freez Ce, I kind of had to assume that
- 11:30Speaker 1: role and then we we obviously stayed in contact and
- 11:32Speaker 1: then started the podcast. We started in the middle of
- 11:36Speaker 1: the pandemic, I think July, and we just started rocking.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I think a lot of people might have started podcast
- 11:42Speaker 1: during the pandemic. So why why during the Yeah, it
- 11:46Speaker 1: was it was funny because I actually, uh, I hit
- 11:49Speaker 1: deep but up and was it was something in my mind,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, just thinking about it, and obviously you know
- 11:53Speaker 1: Dee but was one of the guys that I thought
- 11:55Speaker 1: about just you know, his expertise, the way he's able
- 11:59Speaker 1: to talk about the exit and ohs, and just the
- 12:01Speaker 1: respect that I have for him as a player and
- 12:03Speaker 1: as a friend. So when I did call him and
- 12:05Speaker 1: I'm like, look, man, I've been thinking about it, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 1: and we told about it. People like being able to
- 12:09Speaker 1: do a podcast by yourself. That's tough, you know, so
- 12:13Speaker 1: to be able to have somebody that you respect and
- 12:15Speaker 1: you know, no, still have the same um, you know
- 12:19Speaker 1: ideas as far as the game, you know, we just
- 12:22Speaker 1: we just kicked it off. Do you have a segment
- 12:24Speaker 1: that you guys prefer to do the most on your
- 12:26Speaker 1: Guys show. I've seen you guys do your picks on
- 12:29Speaker 1: the weeks and you say like you're not always right,
- 12:31Speaker 1: but you're very confident, very very co to be have
- 12:37Speaker 1: to be. Um, I think throughout our time, man, we've
- 12:41Speaker 1: had different segments, right, Um, this year we did it
- 12:43Speaker 1: is what it is. Um, we had a segment segment
- 12:47Speaker 1: where dead that's wrong. We've been that a few times.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But I would say those two, Yeah, we talked about
- 12:56Speaker 1: you know, pretty much the whole whole league and everything
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's happening only just all but things that's happening in
- 13:01Speaker 1: real life as well. But honestly, my favorite segments are
- 13:04Speaker 1: you know, when we disagree, you know what I mean,
- 13:06Speaker 1: if we agree on a lot of things. You know,
- 13:07Speaker 1: we've seen the game a lot of similar ways, but
- 13:10Speaker 1: when we actually disagree on something like it ain't nothing
- 13:13Speaker 1: like a good old locker room argument. Was the business?
- 13:15Speaker 1: What's the biggest argument? You guys probably disagree, i'ma said.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So we talked about it as far as is it
- 13:21Speaker 1: tougher in the league and being a starter or a backup?
- 13:26Speaker 1: Is this in the NFL? Or like yeah, so so
- 13:30Speaker 1: he a long time starter, I started, I rotated in,
- 13:33Speaker 1: was a nickel guy, and I might look, it's much tougher,
- 13:36Speaker 1: like if you're starting, you get that first hit that
- 13:39Speaker 1: you get, maybe you give up a cash, get a tackled,
- 13:41Speaker 1: like you're playing ball now you and you're really you
- 13:43Speaker 1: get really you get a tempo. As a sub player,
- 13:45Speaker 1: I played sub a lot, sub player. You playing the
- 13:48Speaker 1: page they made maybe be the game playing to keep
- 13:50Speaker 1: you off the field, maybe twelve and thirteen personnel the
- 13:52Speaker 1: first fourteen out of sixteen plays. And then when the
- 13:55Speaker 1: game is on two minutes before halftime, I gotta be
- 13:58Speaker 1: full go communicating taking the calls. That's tough, and um,
- 14:02Speaker 1: you know abs argument more so like, look, it's the
- 14:04Speaker 1: expectation everywhere if we play, so you'll go back and forth.
- 14:09Speaker 1: You expected to play at a high level each in
- 14:13Speaker 1: every week and as you guys gonna you start us
- 14:17Speaker 1: in the league every year, they drafted somebody to get
- 14:20Speaker 1: you out of that start, you know. And then if
- 14:23Speaker 1: you are starting, you know, your paid your payers up,
- 14:26Speaker 1: so they're trying to find another reason to get you
- 14:28Speaker 1: out of the building. Um So again, obviously it's tough
- 14:31Speaker 1: for playing the league. You know, it was a great debate.
- 14:34Speaker 1: You know, I still do my stance. He's still on
- 14:36Speaker 1: one more point on that. We're all players up here, right,
- 14:39Speaker 1: so you know, coming into the year, you know you met,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you drafted somewhere, you're making a certain amount of money.
- 14:44Speaker 1: You know you're you're the guy that year. So you're
- 14:46Speaker 1: the guy for the stretch and lesson injury or you
- 14:48Speaker 1: just have a terrible four game stretch or something like that.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Right as a backup as a sub player, when you
- 14:53Speaker 1: are in there, it's a different mindset as far as
- 14:56Speaker 1: when you're that guy like I know, hey, I'm waiting
- 14:58Speaker 1: for this formation, this down at this situation, and I'm
- 15:01Speaker 1: jumping this route like I'm going like that's just I'm
- 15:04Speaker 1: going throom. Every every series. You may have that right
- 15:07Speaker 1: as a backup you maybe I don't want to mess up,
- 15:09Speaker 1: like this is my shot and now that can't hold
- 15:11Speaker 1: you back obviously, but that's what's going through a lot
- 15:13Speaker 1: of the players minds when you are in that road.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And I was in a row. That's that's why I
- 15:16Speaker 1: struggled really my second year in New England being because
- 15:19Speaker 1: New England you can get bitched, you have a you
- 15:23Speaker 1: might be you might have yeah, exactly, So it's crazy, man,
- 15:30Speaker 1: just that the psychology behind it as well, so we
- 15:33Speaker 1: can kind of limit your athletics. So we got into
- 15:36Speaker 1: a good that was that was definitely a good I
- 15:38Speaker 1: think I think what Darris rings up is a great
- 15:40Speaker 1: point because you know, if I'm a backup guy and
- 15:43Speaker 1: the coach has be inside leverage, and anytime I'm not
- 15:46Speaker 1: an inside leverage, what are you doing that you don't
- 15:48Speaker 1: get the lead way of like, oh, you know, coach,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I had this field. I was like, you gotta be
- 15:55Speaker 1: a robot. It's it's rule guys, and his guideline guys.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Rule guys were mostly backups, like you gotta do by
- 16:01Speaker 1: the rule by the book. Then we got other guys.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It's kind of by the guideline, you know, and I
- 16:05Speaker 1: get that to another thing. As far as a backup
- 16:08Speaker 1: and the stars, as a starter, you know, everybody's critiquing.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Everybody's watching film on defensive side, O c, quarterbacks, receivers,
- 16:15Speaker 1: they're looking at you, right, so they can tell, Okay, Roman,
- 16:18Speaker 1: he's not good here, Peanut, he's not great here. This
- 16:22Speaker 1: is what he does great? Right. As far as a
- 16:24Speaker 1: backup you throw in, it's no film, it's film on you,
- 16:27Speaker 1: but really not that much where opposing opposing player can
- 16:31Speaker 1: really critique you. So again, as a starter, you gotta
- 16:34Speaker 1: bring your p's and queues every game, every down, every snap.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I would yeah that was yeah, Yeah, I think I
- 16:42Speaker 1: signed more with you because I didn't I started. But
- 16:47Speaker 1: I like where you came from. I feel it. I
- 16:50Speaker 1: like where I like where you came from. Like, yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: it's I hear it, I understand it. I don't agree
- 16:57Speaker 1: with it. I hear it, though I don't agree. I
- 17:00Speaker 1: guess I don't agree with it because having been a starter,
- 17:05Speaker 1: I fought like you. There's always a guy bigger, faster, younger, stronger.
- 17:09Speaker 1: He's trying to take food off my table. You're trying
- 17:11Speaker 1: to take food or money out of my pocket. So
- 17:13Speaker 1: I gotta be on all the time. I'm not afforded,
- 17:16Speaker 1: or I can't make this mistake because they can put
- 17:19Speaker 1: you in there and then boom. Everybody uses for the
- 17:31Speaker 1: Wally Pip. He got sick, he didn't play, and then
- 17:36Speaker 1: he was a Yankee Yankee great. I don't know what
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yankee player it was. He came to me, took his spot,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and he never gave it up. And that's hey, Wally Pip,
- 17:45Speaker 1: that's a story. Google it if you don't believe me.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It's true story. So that's that's why I am so Look,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm a deep physics guy. I talked to everyone about
- 17:54Speaker 1: Super Bowl where what two days, two hours and thirty
- 17:57Speaker 1: one minutes from the game. Right now, the game is
- 18:00Speaker 1: solely sold on offense. The commercials, the tickets, pictures, everything
- 18:06Speaker 1: is offense. Right Everyone wants to see points on the board.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I hate high scoring games, can't stand it. I hate
- 18:11Speaker 1: bad It's just not good for me. It's good for
- 18:14Speaker 1: the sport. Why it's bad defense? Though? It's bad defense?
- 18:21Speaker 1: Do you do you want to see a high scoring
- 18:23Speaker 1: or a low scoring game? Why? First of all, it's points? Uh?
- 18:28Speaker 1: You know it's a lot of uh, you know, regardless
- 18:31Speaker 1: depending on which stature and if you can bet on it,
- 18:33Speaker 1: you know, touchdowns, scores, all that stuff. But I mean,
- 18:36Speaker 1: I like to see as a defensive defensive player obviously
- 18:39Speaker 1: want to see players. You want to see picks. You
- 18:40Speaker 1: want to see sex as well. Pick six is those points?
- 18:43Speaker 1: I love points. I love it's just the entertainment fact.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I also love seeing a will played defensive game as well.
- 18:49Speaker 1: And I feel like today's game, you can play great
- 18:52Speaker 1: defense and it's still be a thirty one game. When
- 18:55Speaker 1: we were playing, that was you play, you felt like
- 18:56Speaker 1: you played terrible on defense. Today you hold my homes
- 18:59Speaker 1: or hurts on these offenses like you're looking at your
- 19:04Speaker 1: offense like, hey, I gotta put up thirty. If you
- 19:06Speaker 1: get one point, you gotta win that game. But remember point,
- 19:10Speaker 1: you gotta win that game. I remember when we was
- 19:12Speaker 1: in the meet room, it was seventeen for us, Like,
- 19:14Speaker 1: you know, we hold a team seventeen, we should be
- 19:16Speaker 1: able to win the game. That it was seventeen points. Yeah,
- 19:19Speaker 1: so I don't like I'm fourteen and seven team. That's
- 19:23Speaker 1: how we were. Anything past that, it's a failure. I
- 19:25Speaker 1: get it. Man, like that was, that was quarterback? That
- 19:29Speaker 1: was that was the motto, low low, low scoring games.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I like it. Yeah, it also go it shows how
- 19:36Speaker 1: smart that your decordinator is. Like, it shows that they
- 19:39Speaker 1: really planned, They have a really they have a really
- 19:43Speaker 1: good game plan for this team. So I'm curious to
- 19:46Speaker 1: see what, uh Philadelphia does, what they have in store
- 19:50Speaker 1: for Patrick Mahomes vice versa. I want to see what
- 19:53Speaker 1: Kansas City has in store for Philadelphia. What are they
- 19:56Speaker 1: gonna do to get Hurts? What are they gonna do
- 19:57Speaker 1: from you know what I'm saying, Like I want to
- 19:58Speaker 1: I want to see it's not just other players, but
- 20:01Speaker 1: what are your coaches doing to put those players in
- 20:03Speaker 1: that situation? Honestly, I think on the defensive side, I
- 20:07Speaker 1: think Kansas City have a tougher job then Philadelphia Eagles.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Dug Yeah, um, because you know, you look at Philly,
- 20:16Speaker 1: you look at their offense, you look at Jayla Hursts,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you look at Mile Sanders how he's been playing and
- 20:21Speaker 1: um in the postseason, you look at you know Smith,
- 20:24Speaker 1: you look at a J. Brown. They have weapons all
- 20:27Speaker 1: across the board. Um Fulfilly, right, Philly. They can run
- 20:30Speaker 1: the ball, they can pass the ball, now you've got
- 20:32Speaker 1: r P O s and you don't know what Jayla
- 20:34Speaker 1: Hursts is gonna do. So in that aspect, I feel
- 20:36Speaker 1: like Kansas City, you gotta figure out, Okay, what are
- 20:39Speaker 1: we gonna try to limit? Right flip side? For Philly,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you got that defensive line. You've got seven guys in
- 20:45Speaker 1: the rotation. Man, they can go get Patrick Mahomes and
- 20:48Speaker 1: my one and only thing and I'm gonna do is
- 20:52Speaker 1: double huh kelsey and make them beat beat me left handed.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Somebody else gotta beat me and somebody and you've got
- 20:58Speaker 1: two great corners that berry in big place slave have
- 21:02Speaker 1: balled this year, So you a loow those guys that
- 21:05Speaker 1: go one on one on outside and we say, all right,
- 21:07Speaker 1: if you beat them, then you deserve it, and we're
- 21:09Speaker 1: gonna put all the attention. I mean, I liked the
- 21:11Speaker 1: game plan and it's amazing how its defensive guys immediately
- 21:14Speaker 1: all right, what are we gonna give up? What are
- 21:16Speaker 1: we gonna take over? Can't sleep on Chauncey Gardner Johnson either.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I feel like that was one of their big higher roads.
- 21:22Speaker 1: We've done an incredible job putting this rock together. As
- 21:24Speaker 1: far as drafting. You look at everybody's offense. Most of
- 21:26Speaker 1: those guys have been drafted to that team. But defensively,
- 21:28Speaker 1: bringing in Brad Berry trained for Slave, then Chauncey Gardner
- 21:31Speaker 1: Johnson who wanted in New Orleans. You know it was
- 21:34Speaker 1: it was a great slot defended there and moved back
- 21:36Speaker 1: to safety and now have done a lot for that secondary,
- 21:39Speaker 1: for that defense. So when you got on both sides,
- 21:42Speaker 1: I think the Eagles had the edge and the trenches,
- 21:44Speaker 1: and that's really where I think these games don't come
- 21:46Speaker 1: down to the Super Bowl that Mahomes did lose. He was,
- 21:49Speaker 1: you know, running for his life. Obviously they got better
- 21:51Speaker 1: m on that old line, but I think on the
- 21:53Speaker 1: outside those tackles Brown and um, it was wildly. I
- 21:58Speaker 1: don't like how they match up with Sweat and Graham
- 22:01Speaker 1: and all those guys. Just Robert Quinn, who's gonna be
- 22:04Speaker 1: fresh as well, So it's gonna be it's gonna be tough.
- 22:07Speaker 1: But he is still Patrick Mahomes and he's one of
- 22:10Speaker 1: the best we've seen even this early on. So predictions
- 22:13Speaker 1: right now, what we what we're talking, Give me, give
- 22:16Speaker 1: me a score, give me and give me a team.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Twine is really good at this it's very confident that yeah,
- 22:21Speaker 1: and he's saying it's gonna it's gonna look good at
- 22:23Speaker 1: least coming off. I'm going Philly with dumb. Um, I'm
- 22:30Speaker 1: going twenties okay, confident, final answer, final, confident snap And
- 22:38Speaker 1: he said it so Philly hardcore two, which is that's
- 22:47Speaker 1: that's a lot of points at a point, a lot
- 22:49Speaker 1: of points. But what you got, Um, the Eagles have
- 22:52Speaker 1: been the best team in the league all year long.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I'm going with the best team in the biggest game.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I just that's just what it is. The way Kansas
- 22:59Speaker 1: City wins the aim is if you know, we all
- 23:01Speaker 1: know it. At the end of the day, as the
- 23:03Speaker 1: young people like to say, Patrick Mahomes is gonna say,
- 23:05Speaker 1: I am him. If he goes out there and does that,
- 23:07Speaker 1: then when the best player goes out there and wins
- 23:09Speaker 1: you a game, sometimes he just beat you. And that's
- 23:12Speaker 1: what it's gonna have take for Kansas City to win
- 23:14Speaker 1: this game. And he's very possible that that could happen.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I like the best team in football. Yeah, I'm going
- 23:20Speaker 1: with the Eagles. Um, give me a score. What you
- 23:23Speaker 1: got a score? Honestly, I think it's gonna be a
- 23:26Speaker 1: lot more, a lot, a lot bigger than what we think.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I think maybe why would say that, because I just
- 23:33Speaker 1: think it's gonna like the game is gonna be big.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It's gonna like it's gonna be a lot of points.
- 23:37Speaker 1: But you want, but it's gonna be I think they're
- 23:40Speaker 1: going to score. I don't because you can stop passion
- 23:43Speaker 1: Mahomes for two quarters and dude, I'm telling you, and
- 23:46Speaker 1: you blink an eye and it's it's on. And then
- 23:49Speaker 1: Kelsey's hot. Everybody's celebrating and they and now you're on
- 23:52Speaker 1: your heels as a defense. And you know how hard
- 23:54Speaker 1: it is when you're in two minute mode in the
- 23:56Speaker 1: third quarter. It's tough. It's really tough playing defense into
- 24:00Speaker 1: two minute offense. When you're placing two minute offense in
- 24:03Speaker 1: that third quarter is just really tough to stop. That's
- 24:05Speaker 1: what I think this game kind of gets out of
- 24:07Speaker 1: the head. It's gonna play with a much faster pace
- 24:09Speaker 1: than what we anticipate. I bet you you're wrong, all right,
- 24:13Speaker 1: I bet you you're wrong. I bet you a hunter
- 24:15Speaker 1: push ups you wrong. I'm not gonna put money on it,
- 24:17Speaker 1: but I bet you a hunter push ups you wrong.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a lower, a low scoring game. Hello,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna say total twenty one points. No one is
- 24:28Speaker 1: getting over twenty one points. And I'm saying that with confidence.
- 24:30Speaker 1: It's gonna be some great defense. So what's the who
- 24:32Speaker 1: wins and what's the score? Okay, Philadelphia wins. I'm gonna
- 24:35Speaker 1: say one low scoring game, calling it right there. Confidence,
- 24:44Speaker 1: nobody's giving. It's crazy that we probably are going to
- 24:50Speaker 1: be wrong. All right, each one of you guys. I
- 24:54Speaker 1: love to ask this question, alright, anytime we get a
- 24:56Speaker 1: guy on, what was your first welcome to the fl moment?
- 25:07Speaker 1: All right? Like see for me, mom was in training camp.
- 25:10Speaker 1: My man, Mike Mackenzie money Mike. He was like, not
- 25:13Speaker 1: gonna practice first day of training camp, all right, cool.
- 25:15Speaker 1: But Sean Page was like, all right, this is a
- 25:16Speaker 1: new thing where you at least got to wear the dress.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So we just had he had to put a helmet
- 25:20Speaker 1: on while he rode the bike. Mike always wore shades,
- 25:23Speaker 1: So literally he comes out there without a helmet on.
- 25:25Speaker 1: They're like, Mike, gotta put your helmet on. So he
- 25:27Speaker 1: goes in with the shades on, and I think he's
- 25:29Speaker 1: gonna take the shades off because he put it on
- 25:30Speaker 1: the helmet right. No, he comes right back out shades
- 25:34Speaker 1: on underneath the helmet and riding the bike for like
- 25:36Speaker 1: twenty minutes. For me, I was like, Oh, this is
- 25:38Speaker 1: what the league is about. This is the league dudes
- 25:40Speaker 1: riding a bike with shades on. Like how cool is that?
- 25:43Speaker 1: So I'll give you my welcome to the league and
- 25:48Speaker 1: I'll give you a story when I got my bell wrong.
- 25:49Speaker 1: The welcome to the league was my rookie year training camp.
- 25:53Speaker 1: The real two of days, um and love it real
- 25:55Speaker 1: two days for yours that don't know. Two of days
- 25:58Speaker 1: was like hardcore, wasn't no, you practice one day, you
- 26:01Speaker 1: take your paths off. The real two days was you
- 26:03Speaker 1: practice spice of days pass When you were rookie, you
- 26:09Speaker 1: you're doing every everything. The scout team, special team, That's
- 26:14Speaker 1: what it was. For me. It was kicking off return,
- 26:17Speaker 1: punt punt return, first team, second team, scout team. And
- 26:23Speaker 1: this was probably the first time ever playing football. I
- 26:26Speaker 1: question if I could do this. Yeah, I had the
- 26:28Speaker 1: same question, and I was. I was on the sideline
- 26:32Speaker 1: and I remember it was Marlin Jackson, Kelvin Hayden and
- 26:35Speaker 1: I'm sitting on I'm on a knee and I'm and
- 26:38Speaker 1: I'm just quiet, I'm thinking, and I was like, bro, like,
- 26:44Speaker 1: are y'all hurting right now? Y'all time? And they both
- 26:46Speaker 1: just started laughing. They were like, you're gonna be good. Yeah,
- 26:48Speaker 1: we're feeling the same way last year. And it kind
- 26:52Speaker 1: of helped me. I'm like, Okay, they went through it,
- 26:54Speaker 1: so it's not just it's just not me personally, you know,
- 26:56Speaker 1: it's just one of those things you have to go through.
- 26:58Speaker 1: But that was kind of a my welcome, like, all right, man,
- 27:02Speaker 1: this is a little different. It's a little different, man.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And the one time I got my bell wrong, I
- 27:06Speaker 1: still to this day don't know who that player was.
- 27:08Speaker 1: But we were playing it. We were playing the San
- 27:15Speaker 1: Diego Charges and in the darren sproll, he catches a
- 27:19Speaker 1: screen pass hauling tail down the sideline and you know,
- 27:24Speaker 1: talk about angles, so I'm taking the angle goods trying
- 27:28Speaker 1: to I'm I'm getting in and the receiver ran a
- 27:31Speaker 1: goal route, so he peeled back arounds, just a straight
- 27:36Speaker 1: running up the film. He peeled back and when he
- 27:39Speaker 1: hit me, like instantly, like I just started seeing stars.
- 27:44Speaker 1: And the first when I opened my eyes I seen
- 27:46Speaker 1: my feet, so he hit me so hard, but you
- 27:51Speaker 1: know it was just natural reaction to like just to
- 27:53Speaker 1: get up real quick. He scored. I run to the sideline,
- 27:57Speaker 1: take my helmet off. One of my teammates like, Bro,
- 28:02Speaker 1: you bleed like I had look coming out like you
- 28:07Speaker 1: got Rock, I mean mine, Uh really, I got drafted
- 28:12Speaker 1: the Patriots. So I remember we get there is rookie
- 28:15Speaker 1: mini camp and stuff going through, you know, doing one
- 28:17Speaker 1: on ones, and these guys and DV coach in my
- 28:20Speaker 1: air after every amen with Brady Moss ge here, it's
- 28:23Speaker 1: gonna be different, like that ain't gonna cut it. I'm like,
- 28:25Speaker 1: don't be all right. So them boys get their Brady
- 28:28Speaker 1: bass Wroker and I just like everything like I felt
- 28:31Speaker 1: like my head was just spending, Like I felt like
- 28:33Speaker 1: I wasn't even playing football anymore. You talked about the leverage,
- 28:36Speaker 1: like I knew you had to be in a certain level.
- 28:38Speaker 1: All right, We're gonna be outside inside leverage at the
- 28:41Speaker 1: line of screamage once we get in the intermediate part
- 28:43Speaker 1: of the field. Now I want you outside leveraging of
- 28:45Speaker 1: the day, Rock, because you got I'm like, I'm just
- 28:47Speaker 1: trying to cover, dude. So that mentally was my kind
- 28:49Speaker 1: of welcome to the the NFL. And then in the game,
- 28:52Speaker 1: my first game, Monday Night Football, UM playing against the
- 28:55Speaker 1: Bills and that's when they had t o just got
- 28:58Speaker 1: their um. Lee Evans Roscoe Parish are still there. I
- 29:02Speaker 1: think Fred Jackson, great offense, and it comes down it's
- 29:08Speaker 1: one of those plays, last play the game. One of
- 29:11Speaker 1: those players you throw it to a guy and pitch
- 29:13Speaker 1: it back and pitch it back, and I'm out there
- 29:15Speaker 1: running around with like chicken on the head cut off.
- 29:17Speaker 1: So throw it to the first tight endle I hit him,
- 29:19Speaker 1: bounce off m He pitched it back to tell Boom
- 29:21Speaker 1: he's still farm me. He getting I missed four tackles
- 29:25Speaker 1: on one play. So in New England, you win or
- 29:28Speaker 1: lose that Monday or that Tuesday. In that case, this
- 29:31Speaker 1: is an of the game. You got low lights, you know,
- 29:34Speaker 1: so you can win by three touchdow Like you're stressing
- 29:37Speaker 1: these low lights. So I'm thinkingna be good. This is
- 29:39Speaker 1: the last play the game. He's gonna get to this
- 29:41Speaker 1: one last last thing before the meeting Belichick. Guys, I've
- 29:46Speaker 1: been coaching the thirty five plus years in this leave
- 29:50Speaker 1: you know, I've seen pretty much everything. I've never seen
- 29:52Speaker 1: a guy and missed four tackles or wooden player like
- 29:55Speaker 1: coaching hustler man. So that was that was my welcome
- 29:58Speaker 1: to the welcome to the league moment. I think, didn't
- 30:01Speaker 1: you miss like three or full tackles on one play?
- 30:04Speaker 1: You know what play I'm talking about, y'all know the
- 30:06Speaker 1: famous you know when Norman's is playing uh Seattle and
- 30:10Speaker 1: then you run through you know, be smoody, run through
- 30:12Speaker 1: the hole and break one tackle, breaking another tackle, breaking
- 30:16Speaker 1: another tackle. If you look closely, you see room in
- 30:20Speaker 1: the background in early did you miss one? I really
- 30:24Speaker 1: didn't even miss him. It was like this, like I was,
- 30:29Speaker 1: I was setting the edge. He goes inside, so I'm,
- 30:33Speaker 1: you know, posting up. He goes inside. So then I'm
- 30:36Speaker 1: like okay, looking then like miss him. I'm like, did
- 30:43Speaker 1: I start running? Okay? Corner get off me. I'm like,
- 30:50Speaker 1: oh lord, I'm like really running safety dive. Miss he
- 30:55Speaker 1: stiff woman, I'm like, you're paying look up, it's just me,
- 30:58Speaker 1: three blockers and Marsh and that's when he hit the
- 31:02Speaker 1: home I just like, that's like what happened. That's like
- 31:06Speaker 1: my favorite player all the time. I look at Idea,
- 31:09Speaker 1: what happened? Hilarious? Look at that play? Huh you got
- 31:13Speaker 1: me one time? Matter fact on Hester has should have
- 31:17Speaker 1: been in the Hall of Fame. By the way, yes,
- 31:19Speaker 1: um he broke a part return record. I believe I
- 31:22Speaker 1: was in Carolina this year. I think it was you
- 31:24Speaker 1: and Corey Graham maybe. Yeah. And this is my first
- 31:29Speaker 1: and last rep as a good and get double teams.
- 31:38Speaker 1: We're not We're not trade players like that at all.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And I have been sabotaging special teams drills for three
- 31:44Speaker 1: years something to that point. I finally told me the
- 31:46Speaker 1: injuries that have ade needs you, y'all need me this
- 31:50Speaker 1: game now with this unit, because y'all took the absolute
- 31:53Speaker 1: utmost pride in that part unit. So that was definitely
- 31:56Speaker 1: not that. That was y'all. I appreciate you into my
- 31:59Speaker 1: gunning career over. I'm not trying to deal with man. Yeah. Look,
- 32:05Speaker 1: we can't thank you all enough man for coming on
- 32:07Speaker 1: our podcast. From you know, man to man, we thank y'all,
- 32:10Speaker 1: uh wishing enough but success for y'all, y'all five. I
- 32:14Speaker 1: need a hoodie, please, I want to. I wanna get
- 32:18Speaker 1: and shut out you know how it res you you know,
- 32:21Speaker 1: ate you? How about to ate you? Uh? Swim me
- 32:24Speaker 1: ever go to one? I did not. The swim meets
- 32:28Speaker 1: were not like that. When I was I need to
- 32:31Speaker 1: go to one, I don't even I'm not even a
- 32:33Speaker 1: great swimmer. But now that I'm seeing I gotta get
- 32:37Speaker 1: back on. Okay, okay, because I saw it, I'm like,
- 32:39Speaker 1: but I need that in my lot of energy. And
- 32:41Speaker 1: it's a lot of energy and that swim me Okay,
- 32:44Speaker 1: I'm glad. Hey appreciate that. Appreciate coming always always. So
- 32:54Speaker 1: I didn't know that Darius Butler was the gunner at
- 33:00Speaker 1: myself and Corey Graham that we kind of murdered on
- 33:03Speaker 1: the sideline like I had when he brought it up,
- 33:04Speaker 1: and I was like, oh man, I've been up to
- 33:06Speaker 1: a lot of guys like I don't really remember. I'm
- 33:09Speaker 1: sorry I got you fired off of that. That special
- 33:10Speaker 1: team does a gunner like no, you did him a favorite.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Nobody wants to be a gun in the NFL. I'm
- 33:14Speaker 1: telling you, it is the absolute worst position to play.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Explaining what the gunner is. A gunner is the outside
- 33:20Speaker 1: guy on a punt team. So if I'm putting the ball,
- 33:22Speaker 1: it's fourth down. We didn't get the ball, we're gonna
- 33:24Speaker 1: put it and these other guys on the outside. There
- 33:25Speaker 1: on a lot of scrimmage that get to release as
- 33:27Speaker 1: soon as the ball is snap, because there it's only
- 33:29Speaker 1: three guys that get to release as soon as the
- 33:31Speaker 1: ball is snap. You got the up back or the
- 33:33Speaker 1: person protector, and you're to edge guys. They get to
- 33:36Speaker 1: release as soon as the ball is snap. And usually
- 33:39Speaker 1: it's two on one. They have two defenders blocking one
- 33:42Speaker 1: guy and he can't just run out of bounds unless
- 33:45Speaker 1: he gets thrown out of bounds. He's gonna get he
- 33:47Speaker 1: will get held. He get down, and they allowed them
- 33:50Speaker 1: to hold. They allowed the defense to hold. It's the
- 33:55Speaker 1: physical rough playing. You just got to have your big
- 33:57Speaker 1: boy pats on and pants. You just gotta just you know,
- 34:01Speaker 1: you gotta fight. You gotta fight. You gotta fight, you
- 34:03Speaker 1: gotta slap, you get pulled, you gotta do other techniques.
- 34:06Speaker 1: You gotta yeah, eye gouge, whatever it takes. You're gonna
- 34:09Speaker 1: have to do it when you do. I liked it, um,
- 34:12Speaker 1: I like their podcast. I like the view. You know
- 34:14Speaker 1: what I told you. Also from them though, is that
- 34:16Speaker 1: I can tell they both care about each other. You
- 34:17Speaker 1: can tell like, not everybody that works together likes each other,
- 34:20Speaker 1: and not everybody that does podcast together get along or
- 34:24Speaker 1: and Darris was like, man, the best times I have
- 34:26Speaker 1: is when we don't when we don't agree on something,
- 34:29Speaker 1: and so that's really cool when you you know you
- 34:31Speaker 1: care that much you like when you disagree, it's almost
- 34:33Speaker 1: like the most fun thing. Because we don't disagree that much,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna start disagreeing with you more, just just off principle. Well,
- 34:39Speaker 1: it's really hard to disagree with me, peanut, because I'm
- 34:41Speaker 1: always right. So that's just one of those things. It's
- 34:43Speaker 1: really hard to go against the truth. I'm not even
- 34:45Speaker 1: gonna argue with that because that's that's another conversation for
- 34:48Speaker 1: off camera. Well good, I'm just gonna end the show
- 34:50Speaker 1: right now. So thank you for all those listeners, for
