- 0:00Speaker 1: Rob Orange, Nebraska's defensive coordinator, says that this Nebraska offense
- 0:04Speaker 1: is as good as any in the Big Ten. How
- 0:05Speaker 1: would he know that?
- 0:07Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, I just think he likes the players
- 0:10Speaker 2: that they see and go against, and he's coached ball
- 0:13Speaker 2: and around them. But, yeah, it's August. It's September. It's
- 0:16Speaker 2: early season coach speak. I would not get worked up
- 0:20Speaker 2: about something like that. I mean, coaches talk glowingly about
- 0:23Speaker 2: their teams everywhere in the country.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And, you know, Matt Rule says this is the best
- 0:28Speaker 1: team I've had, Well, last year before the first game,
- 0:31Speaker 1: he said, this is a damn good football team.
- 0:33Speaker 2: So you're right. I guess we.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Shouldn't pay close attention to these guys. But certainly this
- 0:38Speaker 1: quarterback is critical to any success the team will have.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And Anthony Calandria has had success, but he's not played
- 0:47Speaker 1: against the caliber of competition he's going to see in
- 0:50Speaker 1: the Big Ten. Do you think he's ready for this?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, I think the biggest question is physically, is his
- 0:55Speaker 2: body ready for it? Because the type of front seven
- 1:00Speaker 2: players you play against are NFL, and the corners are physical.
- 1:03Speaker 2: They don't let your receivers get off the line of scrimmage.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So I think the challenge is defensively will be what
- 1:10Speaker 2: to watch. I mean, these first three games should be
- 1:12Speaker 2: hopefully ideal for him defensively to get acclimated to the
- 1:16Speaker 2: conference and just get himself ready for what's coming. But
- 1:21Speaker 2: the mobility side of what he brings, is that going
- 1:24Speaker 2: to work in November? Is he going to be able
- 1:25Speaker 2: to run around and get extra yards after the play?
- 1:28Speaker 2: He played in the ACC, too. I think we forget
- 1:31Speaker 2: that sometimes, that he did play in the ACC. It's
- 1:33Speaker 2: not the Big Ten, but he's not foreign to the
- 1:36Speaker 2: Power Four by any means.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, he was the conference player of the year in
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Mountain West Conference, but he has thrown for 7,500
- 1:42Speaker 1: yards and 49 touchdowns in 33 games.
- 1:46Speaker 2: That's quality.
- 1:47Speaker 1: He's also thrown 29 interceptions in 33 games. What are
- 1:50Speaker 1: they doing to ensure that he doesn't turn the ball
- 1:53Speaker 1: over as much?
- 1:54Speaker 2: It's just his decision-making and some of the things that
- 1:58Speaker 2: they work out in fall camp, and he can't be
- 2:01Speaker 2: overly aggressive. And I know they watched a lot of
- 2:04Speaker 2: his tape with him from the past, and I think
- 2:06Speaker 2: they've worked on it. maybe some of those mistakes. Like
- 2:09Speaker 2: last year, he made a big improvement in those areas.
- 2:11Speaker 2: He wouldn't have won the conference player of the year
- 2:12Speaker 2: if he didn't. You know, playing for Dan Mullen, who's
- 2:16Speaker 2: coached Dak Prescott, Cam Newton for a bit, Tim Tebow,
- 2:21Speaker 2: Kyle Smith, or Alex Smith at Utah way back when.
- 2:25Speaker 2: You know, Dan Mullen, you know, is one of the
- 2:28Speaker 2: best quarterback guys out there, and Calandria did have him
- 2:31Speaker 2: last year. I do think that helped his development quite
- 2:34Speaker 2: a bit, and it showed in the numbers that he
- 2:36Speaker 2: improved in last year from year over year.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Athletic Department announces that it is a sellout. How many
- 2:42Speaker 1: of the seats were bought by StubHub or Ticketmaster?
- 2:46Speaker 2: I don't know the answer to that, if any, or
- 2:48Speaker 2: how that played out. But last Monday, they had 1,500 remaining.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So it's not... out of the question that they could
- 2:56Speaker 2: have moved 1,500 seats in eight days, which they had
- 3:00Speaker 2: the ticket deals and things going on for this opener.
- 3:03Speaker 2: So I do think they sold them to an extent.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Now the heat is going to have its own. Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 2: verdict in this thing on Saturday. 11 a.m. game for
- 3:16Speaker 2: this time of year might be the hottest time of
- 3:19Speaker 2: the day to play because you're going to have full
- 3:21Speaker 2: sun over the top of the stadium. There won't be
- 3:23Speaker 2: a side that's really shaded. A 2.30 game, you kind
- 3:26Speaker 2: of get some shade at some point. But the 11 a.m.
- 3:29Speaker 2: game with 97-degree heat on Sunday could have its own
- 3:33Speaker 2: opinion on what it looks like.
- 3:35Speaker 1: That and also, I don't know who the public works
- 3:37Speaker 1: director is in the city of Lincoln, Shano, but this
- 3:40Speaker 1: was a major fumble. You've got so much road construction
- 3:44Speaker 1: in downtown Lincoln right now. I-180 is restricted. Sun Valley
- 3:50Speaker 1: Parkway is restricted. What the hell is going on in Lincoln?
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah, coming just from South Lincoln where I live, it's
- 3:59Speaker 2: three lanes wide. Well, they've got to cut down a
- 4:01Speaker 2: lane starting at the courthouse, which is roughly Capitol Parkway
- 4:06Speaker 2: and 10th and 9th Street area. So you've got a
- 4:09Speaker 2: whole lane that's taken up by just dirt and rubble
- 4:13Speaker 2: from all these projects going on. There's a parking garage
- 4:17Speaker 2: being built. There's a student housing complex apartment building being built.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And they've had this lane blocked off all summer. I'm
- 4:24Speaker 2: thinking to myself, oh, they'll get this cleaned up by
- 4:26Speaker 2: game day. You'd think. They're not. And then, yeah, the
- 4:30Speaker 2: 180 or the I-80, the 180 exit's going to be
- 4:33Speaker 2: closed off. I mean, they're telling people to plan for
- 4:36Speaker 2: at least 30 minutes additional time compared to what you're
- 4:39Speaker 2: used to, maybe even up to an hour. And 11 a.m.
- 4:42Speaker 2: games do bring the worst traffic because everyone's showing up
- 4:45Speaker 2: at the exact same time. Yeah.
- 4:47Speaker 1: This seems to me to be not well managed. This
- 4:50Speaker 1: should have been a 6 o'clock game. for the weather,
- 4:52Speaker 1: but also that. It will be very hot. It'll be
- 4:55Speaker 1: 96 degrees and very humid on Saturday. So this, and
- 5:00Speaker 1: it's a live TV broadcast, so this could really affect
- 5:03Speaker 1: attendance for a season opener, which would not be good.
- 5:06Speaker 1: All right, Sean, we'll talk to you tomorrow. KFB, Husker

- 5:24Speaker 1: radio pregame show for Husker football you're ever going to
- 5:26Speaker 1: find with three people who know what they're talking about.
