- 1:53Speaker 2: And number nine legendary when Mike said, Mike Natilier was
- 1:59Speaker 2: just on, just join us. Uh, Mike de was just on.
- 2:03Speaker 2: He said, yeah, walk around New Orleans with him. Can
- 2:06Speaker 2: you imagine walking around New Orleans with Drew Brees. I
- 2:10Speaker 2: mean it doesn't even come close to I mean Harry
- 2:14Speaker 2: Connick Junior and Sean Payton don't even come close. And
- 2:17Speaker 2: there I could go through some others. Hey, I'm gonna
- 2:22Speaker 2: walk from the Quarter to the Warehouse District. You know,

- 3:22Speaker 2: day Bar two, Tom Lougan, Bill, Mike Natilier, Jeff Duncan,
- 3:26Speaker 2: among others. And then the michelob Ultra caller line is
- 3:32Speaker 2: six zho one seven zero seven thirty seven fifty playing
- 3:38Speaker 2: for something bigger. Then Drew, that's what he said. Can
- 3:43Speaker 2: we drop that again? That audio?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:48Speaker 2: All right, so Drew, let's set this up again. It
- 3:51Speaker 2: comes down to the Dolphins. I still think a big
- 3:53Speaker 2: piece of this is Nick Saban never goes to Bama.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Now he may go back to college if it doesn't
- 3:59Speaker 2: work out, but he misses the Bama window. Now you
- 4:03Speaker 2: may get the LSU window again. He may get the
- 4:06Speaker 2: Florida window. Can you imagine if God, you'd have dropped
- 4:09Speaker 2: Nick Saban at Florida. Of course he may not. Saban
- 4:13Speaker 2: may not have pushed out Urban when he beat when
- 4:16Speaker 2: he upset Urban and Tebow their their senior Tebow's senior year,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and Tebow was crying on the sidelines and Urban ends
- 4:23Speaker 2: up having the medical issue the night later or that
- 4:28Speaker 2: night when they got back from Atlanta. Either way, this
- 4:30Speaker 2: is Drew Brees talking about why it was New Orleans
- 4:35Speaker 2: and not the Miami Dolphins.
- 4:37Speaker 3: How close were you to me ended up a Miami dollars?
- 4:39Speaker 4: I mean yeah close. I mean on paper like that
- 4:43Speaker 4: was a that was an obvious decision. It was Miami
- 4:44Speaker 4: all the way. Miami had Nick Saban. They had just
- 4:46Speaker 4: come off a nine and seven seas where they won
- 4:48Speaker 4: like the last seven in a row, so they they
- 4:50Speaker 4: kind of had it figured out. Defense was lights out,
- 4:52Speaker 4: Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Oh yeah, their offense. I loved
- 4:55Speaker 4: all their coaching staff. Mike Malarkey was the OC, Jason
- 4:58Speaker 4: Garrett quarterback coach. Hudson Haalp was there, a line coach
- 5:01Speaker 4: who had been ur O line coach the year before
- 5:02Speaker 4: when we'd won the division. Love hud They were running
- 5:05Speaker 4: the same offense that we were running, like Miami Dolphins.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I'm sitting there eating dinner on Wayne Heizinga's yacht. He's
- 5:12Speaker 4: there at dinner talking about, Hey, we're gonna go We're
- 5:14Speaker 4: gonna go play golf in Scotland every every summer with Dan.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I got out of helicopter over there.
- 5:20Speaker 4: We're just gonna hop around, no state income tax. I'm like, dude,
- 5:22Speaker 4: this is all paper. Miami here I come. Yeah, and
- 5:27Speaker 4: then on the flip side, you got New Orleans right,
- 5:29Speaker 4: six months post Katrina, some unknown head coach named Sean Payton. Right,
- 5:33Speaker 4: is this guy right? And ironically five years previous when
- 5:37Speaker 4: I was when I was being like in the draft
- 5:40Speaker 4: Tom conn in my agent, I had probably fifteen teams
- 5:42Speaker 4: that I thought my drafting and he's like, we're going
- 5:45Speaker 4: through that list leading up to draft day and he's like, man,
- 5:47Speaker 4: you got all these great possibilities. He's like, man, you know, honestly,
- 5:50Speaker 4: the only one I would really not want you to
- 5:52Speaker 4: go to is the New Orleans Saints. I kind of
- 5:53Speaker 4: dysfunctional party town, this and that. Like, so I had
- 5:56Speaker 4: that ringing in my head as well. Right, So again
- 5:59Speaker 4: on paper, it's like this is so obvious and I'm
- 6:02Speaker 4: not leaving anything to chance. I'm gonna go and I'm
- 6:04Speaker 4: gonna give each one like it's fair opportunity. And like
- 6:07Speaker 4: the Miami trip was amazing, with the exception of they
- 6:12Speaker 4: put me through the ringer like six hours of these
- 6:15Speaker 4: medical testing because I was only too like eight weeks
- 6:19Speaker 4: postop on an eight month rehab, so I was nowhere close.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I mean my arm and I'm still kind of in
- 6:23Speaker 4: a sling you know, and I can't do anything, and
- 6:26Speaker 4: they're they do the you know, the saline solution, the
- 6:28Speaker 4: contrast MRI. So I'm like in an MRI two for
- 6:31Speaker 4: two hours, just aching, right, I get out of that.
- 6:33Speaker 4: They stick these big needles in my shoulder to test
- 6:35Speaker 4: nerve endings. They're they're, they're they're wanting to test everything.
- 6:38Speaker 4: So I just I got this feeling of like doubt,
- 6:41Speaker 4: like they don't really And and then their doctors were
- 6:44Speaker 4: the ones who told Saban, we think he's got a
- 6:46Speaker 4: twenty five percent chance of ever coming back. And and
- 6:50Speaker 4: I go to New Orleans and it's like you are
- 6:52Speaker 4: our guy, like Sean Payton, Mickey Limbus, you're our guy.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Or building this offense around you. They did everything they
- 6:58Speaker 4: could to kind of roll out the red carpet despite
- 7:00Speaker 4: all the circumstances. I mean, Noorleans was still destroyed, right right.
- 7:04Speaker 4: And the epic story is Sean Payton, after this great
- 7:07Speaker 4: visit there, gets lost in the Lakeview neighborhood and we're
- 7:12Speaker 4: driving through there and houses are off of foundations, Chevy
- 7:14Speaker 4: truck upside down the living room. All of a sudden,
- 7:17Speaker 4: car stops. There's a tugboat in the middle of the
- 7:18Speaker 4: road and I'm looking at my wife like are you
- 7:20Speaker 4: seeing what I'm seeing? But it was also one of
- 7:22Speaker 4: those moments like, man, this is so much bigger than
- 7:24Speaker 4: just football, right, Like we could to be a part
- 7:26Speaker 4: of one of them, you know, the resurrection of one
- 7:28Speaker 4: of America's greatest cities. Like this is God's calling in
- 7:30Speaker 4: our life. And so that was the determining fact.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Wow, he's by the way, he told you what he
- 7:43Speaker 2: was thinking in that clip, didn't he In the first
- 7:46Speaker 2: ten seconds on paper it was Miami all the way.
- 7:53Speaker 2: What do you think about that? On paper it was
- 7:55Speaker 2: Miami all the way? Yeah, And then he and Britney realized,
- 8:01Speaker 2: first of all, this is incredible for his age back
- 8:04Speaker 2: then did you hear what he said about midway through
- 8:09Speaker 2: that he was he wanted to give both of them
- 8:13Speaker 2: all the opportunity in the world to showcase who they were.
- 8:18Speaker 2: He could have easily gone to I don't even care
- 8:21Speaker 2: that they put me through this rigorous workout, and I
- 8:24Speaker 2: don't care that they some in the organization don't think
- 8:27Speaker 2: I'll come back. They want me. And then he talks
- 8:32Speaker 2: about feelings of doubt. Did you hear that in the audio?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Feelings of doubt. And this is a guy who had
- 8:43Speaker 2: been doubted his whole life. No one wanted him out
- 8:46Speaker 2: of Texas High School football, Aggie's Longhorns whatever. You know,
- 8:51Speaker 2: who would have taken him had he been there? Some
- 8:54Speaker 2: guy named Mike Leech had he been at Texas Tech.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Can you imagine Drew Brees as good as he was
- 9:00Speaker 2: as with Joe Tiller at Purdue and they don't have
- 9:02Speaker 2: athletes then or today? Can you imagine Drew Brees in
- 9:06Speaker 2: the air raid? What think about all the quarterbacks that
- 9:13Speaker 2: have been successful in that offense that were extremely limited
- 9:19Speaker 2: and Breeze is a freak athlete. Holy Mary Olsapp, Good morning.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Welcome into the Out of Bound Show. H m.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Hmm. We're all gonna die.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Quote of SEC Media Days. Drop it again. We're all
- 10:39Speaker 2: gonna die, Lane Kiffin, uh poetic philosophical at SEC Media Days.

- 12:13Speaker 2: Can you be? Can you actually be in charge of that?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Because I'll have about four hundred and sixty three things
- 12:21Speaker 2: going on during football season between shows and live endorsements
- 12:25Speaker 2: and promos and remotes and everything else, and and I
- 12:29Speaker 2: know you I roll that, but do you think can
- 12:32Speaker 2: you do? Can that be one of your tasks? Find
- 12:35Speaker 2: one teas a week.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I mean yes, okay, Olin, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean
- 12:43Speaker 1: yeah yeah, it's all that. I mean, I told you
- 12:45Speaker 1: we go.
- 12:45Speaker 2: You seem to be wishy washy here can you? Can
- 12:51Speaker 2: you do it or not?
- 12:52Speaker 1: It's all that, of course, okay, so yeah, yeah, nothing.
- 12:57Speaker 1: But I don't want to give out these banger locks
- 12:59Speaker 1: all over there.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I see what you're saying. Well, but we got to
- 13:04Speaker 2: do it for the pep We love our we we
- 13:07Speaker 2: love our p ones, our p ones who listen daily
- 13:10Speaker 2: or several days a week for an hour plus a day.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Love pay them back. But I love our P twos
- 13:16Speaker 2: and the listeners and P three. But can you we
- 13:20Speaker 2: got to bring it home, all these bangers that you're
- 13:22Speaker 2: going to come up with, can you know? Let me
- 13:27Speaker 2: ask you. Can you in the first month of the
- 13:29Speaker 2: season in September? Do you think you can pick one winner?
- 13:33Speaker 2: Because it's not easy. Do you think you can pick
- 13:36Speaker 2: one winner in the first month of the seasons? Okay,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I'm here if you can. If you pick one, I
- 13:46Speaker 2: will take you to the restaurant of your choice. All right, man, here,
- 13:55Speaker 2: if you can pick one winner in the month of September,
- 13:58Speaker 2: teaser one teaser, because it's not easy. Six points. We're
- 14:03Speaker 2: not we're not doing all that other stuff that you do.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Now it's six up or down, giver however you want
- 14:08Speaker 2: to do it, you get to pick. I need them
- 14:11Speaker 2: to be if at all possible, they don't have to
- 14:14Speaker 2: be Ole miss Orssissippi State. If they are, they'd be great,
- 14:17Speaker 2: or a couple of them. They need to be SEC
- 14:20Speaker 2: or we're gonna have to be you know, a big
- 14:22Speaker 2: game like Ohio State's in at Miami Michigan cheaters. I'm
- 14:29Speaker 2: just kidding, like, like anybody can say that with a
- 14:31Speaker 2: straight face from the SEC. You know what I mean?
- 14:34Speaker 3: There?
- 14:35Speaker 2: Okay, I mean, okay, I mean I'll have Notre Dames.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Although what am I supposed to like? I can't hate
- 14:41Speaker 2: Notre Dame anymore. I'm so because I like Marcus Freeman.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You can like one guy and I like them.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I like Lebron, I hate the Lakers. I enjoyed disliking
- 14:53Speaker 2: Notre Dame. And that's even though I didn't even know
- 14:55Speaker 2: urban Meyer and Dan Mullen were on the staff together.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Before goaling the Bowling Green. They used to jog together
- 15:05Speaker 2: South Bend. What those combos were like? Can you imagine
- 15:09Speaker 2: how locked like Urban was a crazy man. But can
- 15:13Speaker 2: you imagine Urban before it even gets his shot? Man,
- 15:17Speaker 2: I think he was the wide receivers coach at Notre Dame. Yes,
- 15:20Speaker 2: and Dan was a GA and then they go to
- 15:25Speaker 2: Bowling Green and the rest is history. Anyway, wouldn't liked it.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Back to the teas. You got to pick one a week,
- 15:31Speaker 2: got it? That's all I heard in college. You would
- 15:35Speaker 2: walk wherever you went in college. Tease tease. No, I've
- 15:40Speaker 2: teased this. I've teased these two games. And that's fun.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong, I'm not making it was fun.
- 15:47Speaker 1: To hear it.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I mean I love hearing about what people have action on,
- 15:51Speaker 2: no doubt.
- 15:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I have friends that have action every weekend.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I'll see it.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Of course they can afford it, and they I want
- 15:59Speaker 2: you to bet within your budget. I don't care if
- 16:02Speaker 2: it's ten bucks or a thousand bucks a game. But
- 16:06Speaker 2: what's the most you've ever had riding on a game? Thousand,
- 16:10Speaker 2: fifteen hundred and two thousand.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It was a little more than that, but it was
- 16:13Speaker 1: there in the Mayweather spree, so you had to bet
- 16:18Speaker 1: that to win one hundred bucks.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I was in Vegas one night for one of those
- 16:21Speaker 2: big fights. Jay Meadows two thousand. You'll probably be able
- 16:25Speaker 2: to find it two thousand and three, Mandalay Bay, Kentucky
- 16:31Speaker 2: Derby Weekend, two thousand and three in May, Kentucky Derby Weekend.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I just there was the first time I'd ever been
- 16:43Speaker 2: to a sports book, and I'm holy fielding Tony.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Was that it?
- 16:49Speaker 2: That's one of them? Okay, By the way, I've interviewed
- 16:52Speaker 2: both those guys. That's a big Oh no, no, no, no, no.
- 16:55Speaker 2: You remember I did that a few years ago. I
- 16:58Speaker 2: leed that panel with Evander Holyfield Andrew, Tony Riddick bow and.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Yeah, who was the fourth one?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Damn? Oh, I don't know. Tony's a They're all bad.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I mean a Vander still looks like he could box.
- 17:16Speaker 2: He's still got the B cut. His body looked like
- 17:20Speaker 2: a gazillion I know he people stole from him and
- 17:23Speaker 2: he gave too much money away. But he was in
- 17:26Speaker 2: a suit, looked incredible, black suit, white shirt under it,
- 17:31Speaker 2: and he looked like five hundred million dollars. Hoya, wasn't it.
- 17:38Speaker 2: That's who it was?
- 17:41Speaker 3: It was day La Hoya.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Oh man, this teeth is too easy. I'm done already,
- 17:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna have three winners first week. Too easy for
- 17:51Speaker 2: our listeners. Jay Meadows already has he's looking at the teases.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Let's get this. I mean, we've already got Pearl River
- 17:58Speaker 2: Resort and that's great, and the Golden Moon Casino Vegas
- 18:01Speaker 2: Style sports Book. We may have to find a sponsor
- 18:04Speaker 2: for this. Let's see Jackson's, but we're gonna have to
- 18:07Speaker 2: come up. You're gonna have to create a graphic, right
- 18:11Speaker 2: Jackson's teases, but we may No, no, no, I want
- 18:14Speaker 2: it double down? That sounds cooler. Are straight funks? Teases?
- 18:20Speaker 2: Are double downs? Teases? What we're gonna have to think through?
- 18:23Speaker 2: That he sponsored by a local bookie. No, okay, we're
- 18:27Speaker 2: not doing that. We're not doing that, not that I care.
- 18:32Speaker 2: I'm just not doing that on the air, right. I
- 18:34Speaker 2: don't even think it's legal anyway, It is legal for
- 18:37Speaker 2: me to say the Golden Moon Casino Vegas Style sports
- 18:40Speaker 2: book that already has the wind totals up for you.
- 18:43Speaker 2: They have the wind totals up because Bar two and

- 18:57Speaker 2: starts talking. I don't know if he's talking to me
- 18:59Speaker 2: or yourself, and he's looking at all the numbers. It's
- 19:03Speaker 2: y'all would have laughed. It was the funniest thing. I
- 19:07Speaker 2: was like, I'm just gonna stand over the side and

- 20:54Speaker 3: good and bad at Oklahoma. Jeff Lebby good and bad
- 20:57Speaker 3: at Oklahoma was awful and awesome. Okay, okay. John David
- 21:02Speaker 3: Baker was really good and still pretty good. Okay, Okay. Now,
- 21:07Speaker 3: his second year at East Carolina was a big drop off,
- 21:10Speaker 3: specifically in explosiveness. It was the least explosive offense in
- 21:14Speaker 3: the country last year. But we can take a look
- 21:18Speaker 3: at play calling traits, and that's what that's what we
- 21:21Speaker 3: can break down. We can break down run. Actually, I
- 21:24Speaker 3: can remember how I said, I got a bunch of
- 21:26Speaker 3: data at my fingertips. Now, yeah, I can do this
- 21:28Speaker 3: with anybody in the country since twenty ten. Okay, so
- 21:32Speaker 3: Kiffin and Baker in twenty twenty five, and we can
- 21:38Speaker 3: go any direction you want with this. But let's start
- 21:42Speaker 3: with overall tempo. Yeah, okay, Baker's a little bit quicker. Now.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Now this does not take into this takes into account
- 21:50Speaker 3: garbage time. So Ole miss was awful good last year, right, Okay,
- 21:54Speaker 3: they had a lot of garbage time. Lane could slow
- 21:56Speaker 3: it down in the fourth quarter whenever he wanted to.
- 21:59Speaker 3: East You one is good. They play They pretty played
- 22:02Speaker 3: pretty up tempo. So Baker last year was averaging a
- 22:05Speaker 3: snap every twenty one seconds. Interesting, okay, twenty one point two,
- 22:09Speaker 3: Kiffen twenty three point two. Okay, so a couple seconds faster, right, So, So,
- 22:15Speaker 3: so I expect compound that. I expect John David Baker
- 22:19Speaker 3: to be running a little bit faster offense, maybe not
- 22:22Speaker 3: as quick in year one, because there's got to be
- 22:24Speaker 3: a comfortable, comfortable level of sec play. Right, he's in
- 22:29Speaker 3: East Carolina. You know it's it's tomato. It's not tomato tomato.
- 22:33Speaker 3: I mean it is two totally different leagues. There snaps
- 22:37Speaker 3: per game, though averages out about the same. Baker is
- 22:40Speaker 3: going to push about four and a half five more snaps,
- 22:44Speaker 3: so basically an extra drive is going to go on
- 22:47Speaker 3: Pete Golden's defense. Okay, okay, uh so, so slightly faster,
- 22:51Speaker 3: a few more snaps, but running the hurry up temp.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Let's let's and I'll jump into tempo distribution. Okay, so
- 23:00Speaker 3: we know John David is going a little bit quicker
- 23:03Speaker 3: than Kiffen, but what is the tempo distribution now? John
- 23:08Speaker 3: David Baker runs a hurry up offense, snapping the ball
- 23:12Speaker 3: with fifteen seconds or more left on the clock. He
- 23:17Speaker 3: does that about thirty percent of the time last year
- 23:19Speaker 3: thirty point one percent, Kiffen twenty seven point two. So
- 23:23Speaker 3: Baker this kind of goal was locked and steps. He's
- 23:27Speaker 3: running faster, He's using the hurry up more. Okay. The
- 23:33Speaker 3: big difference is the fast fifteen to twenty seconds have
- 23:39Speaker 3: have eroded on the play clock. Kiffin snaps at about
- 23:43Speaker 3: fourteen percent of the time, Baker at twenty point three.
- 23:46Speaker 3: So you are going to see more than half of
- 23:49Speaker 3: the snaps with Baker versus about forty percent of the
- 23:53Speaker 3: snaps with Lane, they're snapping this with only twenty seconds
- 23:57Speaker 3: or less eroded on the play clock. Okay, you got
- 24:01Speaker 3: you got more tempo there. And then as as it
- 24:05Speaker 3: goes down when you start talking about grinding it out,
- 24:09Speaker 3: this is where Kiffen kind of really slows it down.
- 24:12Speaker 3: When he is ending a game. Nearly thirty percent of
- 24:17Speaker 3: his snaps were there was a thirty seconds eroded from
- 24:20Speaker 3: the play clock. Wow, over thirty percent. A lot of
- 24:23Speaker 3: people think Lane is really really up tempo. But nearly
- 24:26Speaker 3: one out of every three snaps he had last year,
- 24:29Speaker 3: the play clock had run down thirty seconds already. How
- 24:31Speaker 3: about that right where John David Baker is only at
- 24:35Speaker 3: twenty four percent. So you got a lot more tempo,
- 24:39Speaker 3: you got a lot more pace. Kiffin has more of
- 24:43Speaker 3: a distribution of pace of play.
- 24:47Speaker 2: He's got an incredible feel. Yeah, right game, which is
- 24:51Speaker 2: really hard to quantify.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Yeah it is, but you look at Kiffin and you
- 24:57Speaker 3: and you look at the running numbers we talked about
- 24:58Speaker 3: yesterday too. You know, the run to pass ratio in
- 25:02Speaker 3: third and five and more in close games. Kiffen led
- 25:06Speaker 3: the league in every aspect third and five to ten,
- 25:09Speaker 3: third and ten plus and so forth. So Lane not
- 25:12Speaker 3: only runs it a little bit slower than John David Baker,
- 25:15Speaker 3: he also runs the ball.
- 25:18Speaker 2: A whole lot more. Hold that thought. Dave bar two
- 25:21Speaker 2: Matrix Analytical Live in the Bank plus Studio will continue
- 25:26Speaker 2: this discussion on Lane Kiffin and John David Baker. Maybe
- 25:31Speaker 2: a little bit of a deficiency between Lane, who's rock
- 25:35Speaker 2: star level, top five, top ten maybe play caller, and
- 25:39Speaker 2: John David Baker, who's not top ten or twenty or
- 25:44Speaker 2: thirty or forty. So so we'll jump back into that.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But if you do have a question for bar two
- 25:50Speaker 2: on your team, on your coach, what they're great is
- 25:55Speaker 2: OCDC hit us up on the Dancing Rabbit golf X
- 26:00Speaker 2: line six oh one eight eight five three seven, seven six.
- 26:06Speaker 2: We do have a six to oh one unnamed texter
- 26:10Speaker 2: that says just a thought on Lane Kiffen. He was
- 26:13Speaker 2: faster at FAU and John David Baker was faster at
- 26:17Speaker 2: e CU. John David Baker won't be as fast in
- 26:21Speaker 2: the sec. Also, why no mention of Joe Judge, who's
- 26:25Speaker 2: heavily involved in all things offense? Huh okay, Joe Judge, Yeah,
- 26:32Speaker 2: that's funny, Okay, so find us on X at Bo
- 26:35Speaker 2: Bounds and the H Key City Mississippi Queen, Bar two.
- 26:40Speaker 2: We got Bar two all in the Mississippi. He had
- 26:44Speaker 2: fried soft shell crab at Kessler Prime. Last night he
- 26:49Speaker 2: had a Key City me Vita, and he may have
- 26:53Speaker 2: had a Key City Mississippi Queen. That's our craft beer
- 26:56Speaker 2: of choice out of Vicksburg, Mississippi. So we're we're we're
- 26:59Speaker 2: bad baptizing him. I mean, he's getting all the Mississippi.
- 27:02Speaker 2: He's gonna have to have black eyed peas at mom
- 27:04Speaker 2: and M's a Golden moon later today and tonight will
- 27:08Speaker 2: be at Philip Ems and he's got a I got my.
- 27:11Speaker 3: New hashtag, come to the sip ole miss sweatshirt here. Yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 3: I think I'm keeping this one because it ain't staying
- 27:17Speaker 3: in the studio.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Okay, So H Bar two grabbed one of one of
- 27:21Speaker 2: our sweatshirts off the rat in the back. Uh, come
- 27:25Speaker 2: to the come to the sip.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I know it's hard for you to say, isn't it.
- 27:28Speaker 2: No, No, I was like to come to the ship,
- 27:30Speaker 2: Come to the sip.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 2: We've had that for a while. That's since the first
- 27:34Speaker 2: Sugar Bowl that Lane went to with Corral when they
- 27:38Speaker 2: played Baylor and David Randa all Right, out of bounds
- 27:41Speaker 2: one oh five nine the zone ESPN. Let's get back
- 27:43Speaker 2: into it bar two on the out of Bounds show.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Watch the show on YouTube search out of Bounds sports
- 27:49Speaker 2: bar two. If you would continue to and we may
- 27:52Speaker 2: stop you and debate it, but continue to compare and contrast.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin is a play caller in John David.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Bright and this is last year, right, twenty twenty five. Okay, okay,
- 28:01Speaker 3: So it was Baker at ECU and Kiff and it
- 28:04Speaker 3: obviously at old miss explosive play rate. Let's talk about
- 28:09Speaker 3: that because now there's little side note on explosive plays
- 28:13Speaker 3: for everybody listening. There's two kinds of explosive plays. There's
- 28:17Speaker 3: explosive scoring and there's explosive non scoring. Okay, Explosive non
- 28:22Speaker 3: scoring plays effect road teams positively for wins and losses
- 28:28Speaker 3: only about fifty five percent of the time. You know,
- 28:30Speaker 3: if you take all the explosive plays and jumble them up,
- 28:33Speaker 3: they have a big impact on the game. But when
- 28:35Speaker 3: you start separating out road and home and explosive scoring
- 28:38Speaker 3: and non scoring, it starts making a bit of a difference.
- 28:42Speaker 3: But explosive play rate overall is a good measure of
- 28:47Speaker 3: how because that really affects wins and losses. Okay, it's
- 28:51Speaker 3: right there with turnover margin. It's not as strong as
- 28:54Speaker 3: scoring efficiency, it's not as strong as momentum control. But
- 28:57Speaker 3: explosive play rates really important. Next year, plays of fifteen
- 29:02Speaker 3: or more yards Kiffin thirteen point eight percent, Baker ten
- 29:07Speaker 3: point five. Okay, okay, so a little less explosive on
- 29:12Speaker 3: the per play explosive rate twenty yard plus plays Kiffin
- 29:17Speaker 3: eight point six, Baker six point two, so about the
- 29:20Speaker 3: same drop off. You know, Lane a little bit more explosive.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Explosive run percentage Kiffin eight Baker four and a half.
- 29:30Speaker 3: That's a big gap right there. I mean, the difference
- 29:33Speaker 3: between the two is in that big but it's almost
- 29:35Speaker 3: double for Lane on the run side of it. Explosive
- 29:38Speaker 3: passes Kiffin at twenty one, Baker at eighteen not that
- 29:42Speaker 3: far apart. So explosive play calling on the pass side
- 29:46Speaker 3: of it is probably a little bit more. Even the
- 29:50Speaker 3: run side is where I think the differentiation is with
- 29:54Speaker 3: Kiffen and his play calling. So overall in twenty twenty five,
- 29:57Speaker 3: Old Miss just generated significantly more explosive plays for the game.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Nearly fourteen percent of their plays go for fifteen plus yards,
- 30:07Speaker 3: where ECU is about ten and a half.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Okay, interesting, I wonder if we should compare John David
- 30:16Speaker 2: Baker and Levy.
- 30:20Speaker 3: We might come back and do that. That takes a
- 30:22Speaker 3: minute for this for this one to run all thirty
- 30:26Speaker 3: or none. Yeah, we can do that. Now, here's the
- 30:28Speaker 3: biggest thing that the numbers pointed out in the behavior. Okay, okay,
- 30:35Speaker 3: this is the biggest one, and then I can wrap
- 30:38Speaker 3: it up. But this one was really interesting in terms
- 30:40Speaker 3: of pace of play. Quarter one, Kiffin much slower than Baker.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Quarter two about the same, but Baker still faster, more
- 30:51Speaker 3: up temple plays. Quarter three, Baker more up temple plays.
- 30:56Speaker 3: And then it flips. Okay, when Kiffen is trailing in
- 31:03Speaker 3: the fourth quarter, his up tempo is twice as fast
- 31:06Speaker 3: as John David Baker. He steps on the gas. And
- 31:11Speaker 3: here's the other thing is when he is leading, he
- 31:15Speaker 3: maintains tempo. John David Baker slows way down at any
- 31:20Speaker 3: point when he is when he's winning a game.
- 31:23Speaker 2: So I think the Kiffen plays to win, he goes
- 31:27Speaker 2: We've talked about it over the years. There's not many
- 31:29Speaker 2: coaches that do it. And I don't know how you
- 31:31Speaker 2: would frame it up, but you got to go get
- 31:33Speaker 2: the win. They're not going to in our league usually
- 31:37Speaker 2: they're not going to give it to you.
- 31:39Speaker 3: No, you got to go take it you got. And
- 31:41Speaker 3: these numbers are saying that John David Baker maybe plays
- 31:44Speaker 3: a little bit not to lose when he's winning, right,
- 31:48Speaker 3: and maybe doesn't have the true fastball to ratchet it up.
- 31:53Speaker 3: He runs fast, but Lane has the ability. It's it's
- 31:57Speaker 3: almost like he can call multiple plays at once and
- 32:00Speaker 3: just ramp up the tempo when he wants to get
- 32:02Speaker 3: it going. So it's it's just imagine him just cruising
- 32:05Speaker 3: down the highway at seventy all game and then suddenly
- 32:08Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter, whether he's losing or winning, here
- 32:11Speaker 3: comes the tempo, Here comes the pressure, and either I'm
- 32:14Speaker 3: gonna stomp you out or I'm gonna go super fast.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I have to be able to catch up. Whereas Baker
- 32:20Speaker 3: doesn't really speed up. He runs the same tempo when
- 32:23Speaker 3: he's losing as the first, second, and third quarter, and
- 32:27Speaker 3: when he's winning he slows way down trying not to
- 32:29Speaker 3: lose the football. Game, big difference in my opinion. There
- 32:33Speaker 3: interesting all.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Right, if you've got a question for Dave bar two,
- 32:38Speaker 2: hit us up on the Golden Moon Casino text lunch
- 32:42Speaker 2: six one eight eight, five three, seven, seven six, hit
- 32:47Speaker 2: us up. You can it can be a big ten team.
- 32:50Speaker 2: You can have a we have Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson,
- 32:53Speaker 2: Miami whatever. Let us know. But if it's SEC, bring it.
- 32:58Speaker 2: That was a good.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Lane.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Kiffin versus John David Bakers play caller.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Still it's just profiling him. Here's another one.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Here's one of the ways we're gonna tease. Who is
- 33:10Speaker 2: Dan Mullen's profile as a head coach. This is going
- 33:15Speaker 2: to be great. On the other side, the other thing.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Last year Kiffin fourth and short. This is his run game. Okay,
- 33:22Speaker 3: because Kiffin's run game far better than John David Baker's
- 33:25Speaker 3: last year, seventy nine percent of his fourth and short
- 33:28Speaker 3: kiffn converted Baker because he passes so much forty forty
- 33:32Speaker 3: two percent. Ain't gonna win it at the SEC. He
- 33:35Speaker 3: needs to get that up.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Bar two on the Out of Bounds show brought to

- 34:33Speaker 2: Martin's and Livingston with an ice cold Budweiser or Key City,
- 34:39Speaker 2: Mississippi Queen bar two with us? Do we want to do?
- 34:43Speaker 2: You want to do the Dan Mullen profile for our listeners?
- 34:46Speaker 3: Here we we we can do that. We were just
- 34:48Speaker 3: talking about who do we compare you? We'll do love
- 34:51Speaker 3: you to this? How about this is? Why don't we
- 34:53Speaker 3: compare in contrast? Because look, every fan wants to be
- 34:56Speaker 3: the best, right, So why don't we compare Jeff to
- 35:00Speaker 3: Tim Beck at Vanderbilt.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good one, all right for our listeners.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Vanderbilt just had two really good years. Well arguably they're
- 35:11Speaker 2: greatest year last year at ten and two. They're the
- 35:13Speaker 2: worst recruiter in the league and went ten and two
- 35:15Speaker 2: and they had Diego Pavias. So we'll tea bar two up.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Clark Lee saved his job by hiring Jerry Kill, former
- 35:25Speaker 2: head coach at New Mexico or New Mexico State.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Jerry's been everywhere. Okay, Jerry's really underrated Minnesota, and he
- 35:31Speaker 3: brought in Tim Beck with him, who's a good offensive
- 35:33Speaker 3: coordinator and obviously Pavia, right, you know who is It's like,
- 35:36Speaker 3: you know, Johnny Manziel and Jeremiah solely had a baby.
- 35:39Speaker 3: But that's run him out there, all.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Right, you know Levy versus Tim Beck, who's been the
- 35:43Speaker 2: OC at Vanderbilt.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Yeah, let's do that. Yeah, so it'll it'll be going
- 35:47Speaker 3: through that. But you had talked about Dan Mullen. Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 3: and I.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Wanted to profile like who's his comp as a college
- 35:58Speaker 2: football coach. Dan with stops as a head coach at
- 36:01Speaker 2: Mississippi State, Florida and UNLB.
- 36:06Speaker 3: And so for folks out there with coach effect is.
- 36:11Speaker 3: It is something that I came up with what over
- 36:14Speaker 3: deck fifteen years ago, and it was very simple. It
- 36:17Speaker 3: was when you won a game against the team that
- 36:20Speaker 3: you out recruited. There's no coach effect because the theory
- 36:25Speaker 3: is talent wins most football games. And it's true if
- 36:28Speaker 3: you take all of the high school and portal talent
- 36:31Speaker 3: and take the four best classes of the last four years,
- 36:34Speaker 3: whether it's the portal or high school, you know, and
- 36:39Speaker 3: you take your four best classes, that's going to win
- 36:42Speaker 3: you about seventy percent of the football games. The rest
- 36:45Speaker 3: of it is coaching. But because of the access to
- 36:48Speaker 3: data now I'm able to not only have coach effect,
- 36:53Speaker 3: but I can have war, I can have wins above replacement.
- 36:57Speaker 3: How good has that guy been over time? And so
- 37:00Speaker 3: it allows me to be able to take a look
- 37:02Speaker 3: at somebody like Dan Mullen at Mississippi State, at Florida
- 37:05Speaker 3: at UNLV individually and as a full career, right, what's
- 37:13Speaker 3: his full career for coach effect and so forth? And
- 37:16Speaker 3: so we were doing this yesterday and I asked the system,
- 37:19Speaker 3: who is Dan Mullen's closest twin Basically, yeah, what was
- 37:27Speaker 3: the complement of it? Dan Mullins. So for his entire career,
- 37:32Speaker 3: he is almost plus one full game coach effect per
- 37:35Speaker 3: year per year, meaning for his entire career, he has
- 37:39Speaker 3: almost averaged one extra win above talent at all of
- 37:43Speaker 3: his stops.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Okay, that's like a fourteen year head coaching career, go ahead.
- 37:48Speaker 3: It's an amazing number for him. His standard deviation his
- 37:51Speaker 3: best year to worst year is one point five to four,
- 37:54Speaker 3: so his top year and his bottom year aren't that
- 37:58Speaker 3: far apart. And his above replacement is at forty three
- 38:02Speaker 3: point one. Now, Saban has the greatest war since twenty ten,
- 38:06Speaker 3: He's at a seventy seven, Davo's like at a sixty nine,
- 38:09Speaker 3: and Dabbo at this pace is never even going to
- 38:12Speaker 3: come close to breaking seventy.
- 38:15Speaker 2: So yeah, when's above replacement for our listeners?
- 38:17Speaker 3: Is war? Go ahead? Or two? And so you look
- 38:20Speaker 3: at Dan and you look at his whole career and
- 38:23Speaker 3: then the number one guy that popped up one last
- 38:28Speaker 3: year as a head coach coach effect point seventy four
- 38:32Speaker 3: versus point seven to one. It's almost the same coach
- 38:34Speaker 3: effect for their career their war. So both of these
- 38:38Speaker 3: guys have been doing it a long time. At a
- 38:39Speaker 3: really good level. One as a fifty ones at a
- 38:42Speaker 3: forty three standard deviation, one's at one point sixty five.
- 38:47Speaker 3: One is at a one point five to four. And
- 38:49Speaker 3: the guy closest to Dan Mullen with those numbers it
- 38:54Speaker 3: is James Franklin.
- 38:55Speaker 2: James Franklin is Dan Mullin's twin as a head coach
- 39:02Speaker 2: with a lot of what Franklin did to give you
- 39:07Speaker 2: that number was the fact that he was so amazing
- 39:10Speaker 2: at Vanderbilt.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Right, it's more back weighted, Okay, right, did Dan? Dan?
- 39:14Speaker 3: I would say, it's kind of he's more level. Yeah,
- 39:17Speaker 3: did did well Dan? If you if you look at
- 39:19Speaker 3: his career with Mississippi State, it was it was a
- 39:21Speaker 3: slow curve up right, And I think a lot of
- 39:24Speaker 3: people underappreciate what he did at Florida. You know it did.
- 39:27Speaker 3: It fell off a cliff at the end. But and
- 39:30Speaker 3: because of that recency bias, I think everybody forgets the
- 39:32Speaker 3: three and a half years before it fell off a cliff.
- 39:34Speaker 2: He was fantastic.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Wow, And and he took over UNLV with nobody. Last
- 39:39Speaker 3: year Barry Odom left to go be terrible at Purdue
- 39:43Speaker 3: and took everybody with him. And Dan only posted a
- 39:46Speaker 3: ten to two just absolutely wicked good. I mean, wow,
- 39:51Speaker 3: you know, and so but the numbers back that up.
- 39:54Speaker 3: The numbers say a A P four to G six
- 39:57Speaker 3: and the move down there's hardly any lost in ability there.
- 40:01Speaker 3: There's no like one year waiting period where Lane going
- 40:04Speaker 3: to LSU, where some are all going from from Tulane
- 40:08Speaker 3: to Florida. There there's going to be a step back
- 40:12Speaker 3: and now you know, a one to one and a
- 40:14Speaker 3: half game step back below expectations. Whereas that dropped down.
- 40:18Speaker 3: The big guys can handle it a whole lot better.
- 40:20Speaker 3: So James Franklin was the number one comparison though.
- 40:23Speaker 2: All right, so Mullin's twin and comp is is James Franklin.
- 40:28Speaker 2: And it's heavily weighted for Franklin because of winning games.
- 40:32Speaker 2: He shouldn't have won at Vanderbilt.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Yes, right, yeah, but you know, even before God he
- 40:37Speaker 3: was good. He was, he was, And I think we
- 40:39Speaker 3: would agree if if what he did at Vanderbilt was
- 40:41Speaker 3: at Penn State, we would have all said, Penn State
- 40:43Speaker 3: is going to be in a national title game at
- 40:45Speaker 3: some point, right right, I mean really, and he just
- 40:48Speaker 3: couldn't find that magic overall Avander, but he was still
- 40:52Speaker 3: really good.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he was knocking down basically ten and two's yeah
- 40:57Speaker 2: every year.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, ten and two, eleven and one. He had
- 40:59Speaker 3: him in the play. I mean it was it was
- 41:01Speaker 3: going good until it didn't right and then and then
- 41:04Speaker 3: it just.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Fell off a clif kind of a little dabbo in
- 41:07Speaker 2: that maybe wasn't quite willing to listen or change or.
- 41:13Speaker 3: I don't know. You know, I think a lot of
- 41:15Speaker 3: it when you start getting to that elite level, I
- 41:19Speaker 3: do believe, so you have to just catch certain breaks, right,
- 41:23Speaker 3: I mean, things just have to come together. It's it's like, look,
- 41:26Speaker 3: I think one of the great examples is LSU. I
- 41:29Speaker 3: will go to my grave not being able to quantify
- 41:34Speaker 3: how Ed Odron did what he did at ole Miss
- 41:39Speaker 3: and turned around and has a national championship. Bring it
- 41:44Speaker 3: the head coach at LSU, I don't get it. It's
- 41:48Speaker 3: like going Dave three plus six is purple, what you know?
- 41:55Speaker 3: And so I mean again, think about all the conflicts
- 41:58Speaker 3: of everything coming through Joe Brady, Burrow Randa to UH.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Two NFL first round wide receivers. It could be in
- 42:08Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame fighting in a bottle.
- 42:09Speaker 3: So with James, do you look at it, he just
- 42:12Speaker 3: couldn't get I don't think he could get He couldn't
- 42:14Speaker 3: get the quarterback right right. I mean, he could never
- 42:17Speaker 3: get the quarterback right and he couldn't get that oc
- 42:19Speaker 3: DC right. And I think he got frustrated because you
- 42:22Speaker 3: saw him fire a lot of ocs the last few years,
- 42:25Speaker 3: and so I think there was a frustration level there
- 42:29Speaker 3: for for him. But h and I think this year
- 42:32Speaker 3: he's going to get the OC wrong. But that's between
- 42:36Speaker 3: you know my opinion, and he's going to be Franklin.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Franklins next man up, Okay, a guy who was terrible
- 42:43Speaker 3: at the FCS who just kind of stuck around long enough.
- 42:46Speaker 3: So we'll see if that works.
