- 0:26Speaker 1: It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
- 0:30Speaker 1: with us inside the treehouse. Today is Thursday, April third,
- 0:35Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. I'm Daniel Malley along with Trey Trenholm.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And while we will find many many things to laugh
- 0:43Speaker 1: about today, I do feel the need somewhat obligation to
- 0:50Speaker 1: start with something sad, and that is the death of
- 0:56Speaker 1: Hollywood legend, in my opinion, Val Kilmer at the age
- 1:01Speaker 1: of sixty five. News came out. I first saw it
- 1:06Speaker 1: yesterday morning that Val Kilmer had passed away. And look,
- 1:11Speaker 1: people die every day. They don't necessarily touch us. We
- 1:15Speaker 1: don't know them, and in the case of Hollywood celebrities, actors,
- 1:19Speaker 1: things like that. I never knew Val Kilmer. I only
- 1:22Speaker 1: knew whatever you know, work he put out there. But
- 1:26Speaker 1: I enjoyed almost every single film that I saw him in.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And that's saying something. It's really hard to do in
- 1:34Speaker 1: Hollywood to have film roles where Granted, I know you
- 1:40Speaker 1: think my taste bar is quite low tray, but I
- 1:44Speaker 1: really liked just about everything Val Kilmer did and I'm
- 1:47Speaker 1: gonna miss him.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I your taste bar is low, and yet I do
- 1:56Speaker 2: agree with you. Yeah, I first remember Val Kilmer and
- 2:00Speaker 2: Breakout in Real Genius Men, so so good in that movie,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and then you know, from that to Top Gun and
- 2:10Speaker 2: everything else. A notoriously an a hole to work with.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I don't know if he was if he's one of
- 2:21Speaker 1: the really well known method actors in Hollywood. I don't
- 2:25Speaker 1: know if he's as hardcore as some of the really
- 2:28Speaker 1: hardcore method actors that are out there. But he was
- 2:31Speaker 1: very he took his craft very seriously. Like I was
- 2:34Speaker 1: just yesterday, I was reading up on some behind the
- 2:37Speaker 1: scenes things throughout his career, one of which in Top Gun,
- 2:42Speaker 1: the first one in nineteen eighty six, he and Tom
- 2:44Speaker 1: Cruise had very little interaction off camera because they wanted
- 2:50Speaker 1: to have that conflict and that strife between Iceman and
- 2:54Speaker 1: Maverick to have some authenticity to it, which when you
- 2:59Speaker 1: fast forward thirty five years and he makes his return
- 3:03Speaker 1: as Iceman in Top Gun Maverick, the story comes out
- 3:07Speaker 1: that Tom Cruise refused to do a sequel without him.
- 3:13Speaker 1: It truly is amazing, and the fact that he did
- 3:15Speaker 1: that role in the condition that he was in. Look,
- 3:19Speaker 1: I know there's other higher forms of courage, but as
- 3:21Speaker 1: an actor and as a vain individual, that was pretty
- 3:25Speaker 1: courageous on his part.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Absolutely, But you know people have said for ages that,
- 3:32Speaker 2: you know, the reason he did not get an Academy
- 3:34Speaker 2: Award nomination for Doc Holliday and Tombstone was because nobody
- 3:40Speaker 2: could stand him.
- 3:44Speaker 1: We have interesting experience with death, you and I tray
- 3:50Speaker 1: and we have interesting experiences throughout our lives, some examples
- 3:56Speaker 1: bigger than others. There is a line out of the
- 3:59Speaker 1: TV show mad Men and one of the characters dies,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and one of the leftover characters says, I don't understand
- 4:05Speaker 1: how dying makes saints out of people, but it's true. Yes,
- 4:10Speaker 1: someone someone dying somehow you start thinking about all the
- 4:15Speaker 1: positives and none of the negatives, and you focus on
- 4:19Speaker 1: the things that you'll miss, And that's that's kind of
- 4:21Speaker 1: the case with Val Kilmer. Maybe maybe I'm lucky that
- 4:23Speaker 1: I didn't know him, because, like you said, if it
- 4:26Speaker 1: was so well known throughout Hollywood circles that he was
- 4:28Speaker 1: just a giant jerk to work with. And I'm glad
- 4:31Speaker 1: I didn't know him. But on the receiving end, as
- 4:34Speaker 1: a fan, I loved him.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Well, he was just, I mean, immensely talented. I would
- 4:40Speaker 2: say probably one of the most talented actors in my lifetime,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and you almost hate that you didn't see more out
- 4:47Speaker 2: of him.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And maybe that's why, Maybe because he was so difficult
- 4:51Speaker 1: to work with, Hollywood didn't you know, throw as many
- 4:54Speaker 1: roles at him. But the ones that he got, he
- 4:57Speaker 1: made the most out of. Now, granted i'm skipping over it,
- 5:00Speaker 1: good chunk on. When I went through his IMDb, I'm like,
- 5:02Speaker 1: I don't know what I feel like. Every actor, if
- 5:05Speaker 1: you're around long enough, has a chunk of your of
- 5:09Speaker 1: your resume that you just soon forget and you probably
- 5:12Speaker 1: did it just to you know, pay the rent. And
- 5:14Speaker 1: he had that for a while. Uh in more more
- 5:18Speaker 1: of the recent years. But when you go back to
- 5:21Speaker 1: the eighties and the nineties, you're like, man, it was
- 5:24Speaker 1: memorable role hit after hit, like uh, top secret, real,
- 5:30Speaker 1: real genius movies that really weren't supposed to be much
- 5:35Speaker 1: of anything. But when I think back about some of
- 5:37Speaker 1: my most favorite Val Kilmer movies, those are some of
- 5:40Speaker 1: the ones I absolutely love, the ones where he was
- 5:43Speaker 1: more comedic. He was the only reason I even bothered
- 5:48Speaker 1: to watch The Doors once. I couldn't stand the Doors
- 5:51Speaker 1: of the band. I didn't like the music. It's it
- 5:53Speaker 1: wasn't my cup of tea, but I watched it because
- 5:56Speaker 1: I wanted to see him portray Jim Morrison. And he
- 6:00Speaker 1: did all the singing on his own in that film.
- 6:04Speaker 2: It's funny, you said, because I am right with you.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I cannot stand the Doors, absolutely, I don't understand the
- 6:11Speaker 2: people's love for them. But yeah, I'm same with you.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I watched that just just.
- 6:17Speaker 1: To see him, Yeah, just to see the performance. And
- 6:20Speaker 1: even some other films that you weren't considered massive successes
- 6:24Speaker 1: I really liked because, as you pointed out, Trey, my
- 6:26Speaker 1: taste bar is quite low. I loved Val Kilmer in
- 6:29Speaker 1: The Saint. I love that movie. It didn't perform well
- 6:34Speaker 1: enough at the box office to become its own franchise,
- 6:37Speaker 1: like I'm sure the studio wanted. But I really enjoyed
- 6:39Speaker 1: it because that was based on an old that was
- 6:41Speaker 1: fifties or sixties television show, and that's when where he
- 6:47Speaker 1: plays all these different characters. He dresses up in disguise.
- 6:50Speaker 1: He was perfect for that. Well, it is a and
- 6:55Speaker 1: he made a Volvo look cool. That's almost impossible.
- 7:01Speaker 2: You're right, it is fascinating, and it's not even death
- 7:05Speaker 2: but you know, it happens with it like athletes and
- 7:10Speaker 2: people all the time, where at the pinnacle of their
- 7:13Speaker 2: career they're absolutely hated, but then as they start falling off,
- 7:19Speaker 2: everyone loves him again, like and we can do it
- 7:21Speaker 2: to him.
- 7:22Speaker 1: We're the ones that will tear them down because okay,
- 7:25Speaker 1: they've gotten too big for their bridges. Kobe Bryant had
- 7:27Speaker 1: that people forget that he's actually a really great example
- 7:30Speaker 1: of this. Became a massive saint upon.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Death, not even upon death, remember the Kobe retirement tour.
- 7:39Speaker 1: That's true death.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I mean, like we had completely forgotten about everything about
- 7:44Speaker 2: the all the negative allegations about Kobe and when he
- 7:47Speaker 2: was on the retirement tour, he was you know and
- 7:49Speaker 2: and was one of the greatest players, but everyone forgot.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Like Dale Earnhardt, people hated him in his prime, and
- 7:57Speaker 2: then at the end after he won a Daytona five
- 8:00Speaker 2: five hundred, and then when he died obviously then he's
- 8:02Speaker 2: a saint. Uh yeah, It's just it's fascinating when they're
- 8:07Speaker 2: at their peak, but then and and it's basically the
- 8:09Speaker 2: same as they as they get old and they start
- 8:13Speaker 2: dying off, then we have sympathy for him. And I
- 8:16Speaker 2: love them again.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah, because we we were able to make make them
- 8:20Speaker 1: human again. Well, and that's the case. With Val Kilmer
- 8:23Speaker 1: having passed away yesterday at the age of sixty five,
- 8:26Speaker 1: We're gonna play a little Val Kilmber game a little
- 8:28Speaker 1: bit later today, so stay tuned for that. For now,
- 8:31Speaker 1: this is the Treehouse Show.
- 8:40Speaker 3: You're in the Treehouse.

- 9:00Speaker 1: got a recent reminder, Daniel that storm season is no
- 9:03Speaker 1: longer one season out of four. It is year round
- 9:06Speaker 1: in North Texas and a severe storm can pop up anytime,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and that means at any moment you may have some
- 9:13Speaker 1: roof damage.
- 9:15Speaker 5: Yeah, Dan, we stopped being you know, springtime storms years
- 9:19Speaker 5: ago and so now and I try to educate everybody
- 9:23Speaker 5: that you shouldn't protect your roof from the storms. You
- 9:26Speaker 5: should protect your roof because it's the thing that you
- 9:29Speaker 5: need to do. Where we live, we've all made a
- 9:31Speaker 5: conscious decision about Leott living here in Texas and exactly
- 9:35Speaker 5: the DFW metroplex. We have strong storms, but we also
- 9:39Speaker 5: have extreme temperatures, we have extreme winds, We have all
- 9:43Speaker 5: kinds of things that our homes take a beating on.
- 9:45Speaker 5: So you really need to protect your roof year round
- 9:47Speaker 5: because it's the right thing to do for your home.
- 9:50Speaker 5: And so it's really easy. You call us out, We
- 9:52Speaker 5: come out, We inspect your roof. If you don't need anything,
- 9:55Speaker 5: we high five each other. We say see you next year.
- 9:58Speaker 5: If you do, we take some pictures, we take some measurements.
- 10:01Speaker 5: We show you what your home needs. It may not
- 10:03Speaker 5: be a whole roof, it may be just with small
- 10:05Speaker 5: repairs that will extend your roof life. But when you
- 10:09Speaker 5: let small things go on your home, they always turn
- 10:12Speaker 5: into larger and that's where it goes down here really fast.
- 10:15Speaker 5: So all you have to do give us a shout,
- 10:17Speaker 5: we'll come out. We'll give you an honest opinion about it,
- 10:20Speaker 5: and then you can make a decision.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Love that about you, guys. No pressure decision is yours.
- 10:26Speaker 1: So give them a call, let them come out and
- 10:27Speaker 1: do just that. Eight three three cook DFW eight three
- 10:30Speaker 1: three cook DFW or the website cookdfw dot com.

- 11:17Speaker 1: I'm Daniel Mally. He is Trey Trentholm. Today is Thursday,
- 11:21Speaker 1: April third, twenty twenty five. Raise your hand if you
- 11:24Speaker 1: want to be a millionaire, raise your hand.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Want to be there?
- 11:27Speaker 1: It's my hand is up, Trey's hand is up. Behind Trey,
- 11:30Speaker 1: there appears to be a cow in his a virtual background.
- 11:33Speaker 1: The cow's hoof is also up. I think anybody, if
- 11:37Speaker 1: given the choice, would want to have as much money
- 11:39Speaker 1: as possible. And if you want the secret to being
- 11:42Speaker 1: a millionaire, we have it. Make your bed yes, do
- 11:47Speaker 1: you want the secret to being a millionaire? Make your bed?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Want to make millions in your life? Make your bed.
- 11:54Speaker 1: It's actually not that simple. But it's nice to think
- 11:57Speaker 1: that all you have to do is make your bed.
- 11:58Speaker 1: But that's not the case. But a number of headlines
- 12:01Speaker 1: I've seen this past week sure make it seem that way.
- 12:04Speaker 1: They make it seem like if you make your bed
- 12:06Speaker 1: every day, there's a two hundred and six percent higher
- 12:09Speaker 1: chance of you becoming a millionaire. That's not what the
- 12:13Speaker 1: study said. The study didn't say if you make your
- 12:16Speaker 1: bed you'll become a millionaire. No, I make my bed, well,
- 12:19Speaker 1: sort of, make my bed every morning, and no one
- 12:22Speaker 1: has ever paid me for it. No one's ever said, hey,
- 12:25Speaker 1: good job, here's a million bucks. No one's even said, hey,
- 12:28Speaker 1: good job, here's a scratcher. It's more like, all right,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I made my bed. Good for me. But apparently that's
- 12:36Speaker 1: the secret, because according to a socio economist or a
- 12:41Speaker 1: socio economist, his name is Randall Bell, he's been studying
- 12:46Speaker 1: success for twenty five years. I'm fascinated by that. You
- 12:51Speaker 1: know how they say those who can't do teach. If
- 12:55Speaker 1: you're a socio economist, for twenty five years studying success.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Does that mean you yourself are not successful because you
- 13:02Speaker 1: spent so much time studying those that are? Or are
- 13:05Speaker 1: you successful studying the successful?
- 13:11Speaker 2: I can't answer that. I know one of the authors
- 13:13Speaker 2: that you know of books like People that Study Successful
- 13:18Speaker 2: People turned it into a headhunting firm where he's like
- 13:22Speaker 2: one of the top you know, when that upper level
- 13:25Speaker 2: CEO headhunters, they contact him. So he's turned it into
- 13:29Speaker 2: quite a profitable endeavor.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Interesting so, according to Randall Bell, the socio economist who's
- 13:36Speaker 1: been studying success for twenty five years, he says those
- 13:39Speaker 1: who do their chores and keep their living space tightier
- 13:42Speaker 1: tend to make more money. As part of his research,
- 13:46Speaker 1: he has spent time and talked with five thousand people
- 13:49Speaker 1: around the world, including but not limited to professionals, students, retirees,
- 13:55Speaker 1: the unemployed, and multi millionaires, and he says those who
- 13:59Speaker 1: make their bed in the morning are up to two
- 14:01Speaker 1: hundred and six point eight percent more likely to be millionaires.
- 14:06Speaker 1: The reason why, it puts your mind into a productive mindset.
- 14:10Speaker 1: So people who make their beds every morning are more
- 14:12Speaker 1: likely to have jobs, have higher incomes, and be more
- 14:16Speaker 1: satisfied with their lives. So again, it's not the if
- 14:21Speaker 1: then scenario. If you make your bed, then you will
- 14:24Speaker 1: make millions. It's more like a trait of those who
- 14:28Speaker 1: are very successful. They tend to make their bed.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I've heard that many times before. And the simplest explanation
- 14:36Speaker 2: I ever heard was, Yeah, someone said, you start off
- 14:38Speaker 2: the day and making your bed, you've accomplished. You've immediately
- 14:40Speaker 2: accomplished a goal.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Was that someone retired Navy Admiral William mccraven.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I cannot remember, but I think that sounds it sounded
- 14:53Speaker 2: like I remember it was someone in the military, so
- 14:54Speaker 2: that probably.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, he did. He did the commencement speech at your
- 14:59Speaker 1: alma mater, ut University of Texas at Austin, all the
- 15:02Speaker 1: way back in twenty fourteen, and in that commencement speech
- 15:06Speaker 1: he shared things he learned during his time in the Navy,
- 15:12Speaker 1: which included being not only a seal but a seal
- 15:14Speaker 1: commander and the head of the entire program, retiring as
- 15:18Speaker 1: an admiral in the Navy hook him horns for utre
- 15:22Speaker 1: and at this commencement speech, one of the things he said,
- 15:25Speaker 1: which people thought was kind of at the time because
- 15:28Speaker 1: they didn't really think about it in context. Was him saying,
- 15:32Speaker 1: make your bed, Just make your bed at least that way,
- 15:36Speaker 1: no matter what happens, and his reasoning was very sound.
- 15:38Speaker 1: If you start the day by making your bed, then
- 15:41Speaker 1: no matter what happens the rest of the day, you've
- 15:44Speaker 1: at least accomplished that you've accomplished something, and that sort
- 15:49Speaker 1: of sets the dominoes up for the rest of the day.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You can feel good, Hey I did something, Yeah, good
- 15:53Speaker 1: for me, and you just kind of carry that with
- 15:56Speaker 1: you throughout the day. And I actually read that book.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I enjoyed it and it's stayed with me. So when
- 16:02Speaker 1: I saw the headline the other day, oh, if you
- 16:03Speaker 1: make your bed, you're going to be a millionaire, I thought,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I don't think that's exactly how that works in a
- 16:09Speaker 1: you know, in a in a Genie lamp filled world,
- 16:11Speaker 1: it would just rub it and say, hey, hey, I just
- 16:14Speaker 1: like millions of dollars please, and they give it to you.
- 16:16Speaker 1: But just just keep that in mind when you see
- 16:20Speaker 1: certain headlines, maybe just read the next sentence or two.
- 16:24Speaker 1: It's helpful, So you.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Make your You really thought there was going to be
- 16:28Speaker 2: an article that just you know, immediately told you the
- 16:31Speaker 2: secret to making millions, and.
- 16:35Speaker 1: No, I wasn't. I was just hoping that there would
- 16:37Speaker 1: be an article that told me about a map that
- 16:40Speaker 1: would lead me to a buried treasure or the Genie
- 16:43Speaker 1: lamp that I could rub and then get my three
- 16:45Speaker 1: wishes and go about it that way. But that doesn't
- 16:48Speaker 1: exist either. I try to live in reality as much
- 16:50Speaker 1: as I can, but I'm guilty of fantasizing on occasion.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Do you make your bed every day? Trade I don't,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you slob, it's guilty. I half assed make my bed.
- 17:07Speaker 1: All I do is I just I don't. I don't
- 17:09Speaker 1: tuck everything in. Admiral mccraven would probably be frown of
- 17:12Speaker 1: my bed making ability, but I do. I do my
- 17:15Speaker 1: version of making the bed, which is just pull the
- 17:17Speaker 1: covers up and then Tara makes it. No, no, no,
- 17:22Speaker 1: This is one of the few things I do around
- 17:23Speaker 1: the house. I make the bed, and my my version
- 17:29Speaker 1: of making the bed is just pull the covers up.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm not tucking anything in. There's no military corners, none
- 17:34Speaker 1: of that crap. It's just the covers are pulled up.
- 17:36Speaker 2: There.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I have helped. I'm like a radio program director walking
- 17:40Speaker 1: in the studio saying I helped and both are full
- 17:45Speaker 1: of crap.

- 18:57Speaker 1: is the Treehouse Show on Thursday, April third, twenty twenty five.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Silly television anchors are going to say it's a bunch
- 19:05Speaker 1: of bolooney, but it's true. The fifty two year old
- 19:09Speaker 1: man was arrested at the US Mexican border trying to
- 19:12Speaker 1: smuggle two hundred and fifty two pounds of pork boloney
- 19:17Speaker 1: into the United States. Can you think of a less
- 19:22Speaker 1: cool item to be caught smuggling across international boundaries than blooney? No,
- 19:30Speaker 1: thank you, that's I mean you have he's going to
- 19:34Speaker 1: go to prison. It's gonna be for a long time
- 19:37Speaker 1: because that's a lot of meat to smuggle, and you're
- 19:39Speaker 1: gonna and when you get to prison, they ask you
- 19:42Speaker 1: what did you do or what what are you in
- 19:45Speaker 1: here for? And when you say smuggling blooney, I don't
- 19:48Speaker 1: think they're gonna take it literally. I think they're gonna
- 19:51Speaker 1: take that as an invitation.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's two hundred and fifty two.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Huh.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Let me look aroun on the cell block here.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I bet we can beat that.
- 20:05Speaker 2: And I mean just the crappiest of meats, like really, why.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just a poor cut of meat. That's not
- 20:12Speaker 1: even a cut, it's it's just it's using. Yeah, it's
- 20:14Speaker 1: a bunch of garbage things. It's leftovers put through a
- 20:17Speaker 1: grinder and then don't I don't know the entire process
- 20:20Speaker 1: of making blooney, but I can imagine you take all
- 20:22Speaker 1: the all the gross leftovers that no one wants and
- 20:25Speaker 1: you put that into a grinder and then somehow you
- 20:28Speaker 1: solidify it through some gelatinous concoction of things I don't
- 20:32Speaker 1: want to know that's in it, and then it solidifies
- 20:34Speaker 1: it and you press it and then and uh, it's
- 20:37Speaker 1: it's in a tube, right, because it's in that whatever
- 20:39Speaker 1: that red casing is on the outside of the blooney,
- 20:42Speaker 1: and then it gets sliced and then you have the
- 20:44Speaker 1: baloney slices.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Yeah, is this is?
- 20:52Speaker 2: This? Is there? Is? There? Is the Mexican version much
- 20:59Speaker 2: better than ours? Is it a something?
- 21:03Speaker 1: Hang on? That actually is a good question because if
- 21:06Speaker 1: you put, you know, two bologne's in front of me,
- 21:11Speaker 1: the American bologna and the Mexican bolooney, I'm probably gonna
- 21:14Speaker 1: go the Mexican bologney because I'm assuming it's gonna have
- 21:17Speaker 1: more flavor, it's gonna be more interesting. That doesn't mean
- 21:20Speaker 1: I'm anti American. I don't want anyone going crazy on me,
- 21:24Speaker 1: but I think I mean that's just gonna have a
- 21:26Speaker 1: more interesting flavor to it, which means you probably also
- 21:29Speaker 1: need to be really careful about how you smuggle that
- 21:31Speaker 1: across the border.
- 21:32Speaker 2: If it's icy, Yeah, that's a.
- 21:36Speaker 1: But is this the sign of a of a of a.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Is this another sign of a poor economy when they're
- 21:41Speaker 1: smuggling less fentanyl and more pork products, Like, I'm surprised
- 21:46Speaker 1: it wasn't eggs, which, by the way, I think there
- 21:49Speaker 1: have been more busts at the US Canadian border of
- 21:52Speaker 1: eggs crossing those boundaries than drugs.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know. Are they putting tariffs
- 22:01Speaker 2: on Bologney? Is it? Are they worried about that? I
- 22:03Speaker 2: don't know.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I can't keep track of the terriffs. Yeah, unless they're
- 22:08Speaker 1: using Bologne to make cars and car parts. I'm I'm
- 22:11Speaker 1: really unsure, but based on the way some cars are
- 22:14Speaker 1: made these days, it wouldn't surprise me.
- 22:19Speaker 2: That's I mean, maybe maybe it's just so much cheaper
- 22:25Speaker 2: down there, you just thought it was worth the risk.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Maybe I'm just I'm stunned by it, like it really is.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Like that's that's let me give you know what, Let
- 22:35Speaker 1: me let me share the story with you, Trey. Maybe
- 22:37Speaker 1: there's more context here that we're missing.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Just after two am, an Albuquerque man told agents he
- 22:45Speaker 1: had nothing to declare. He was referred to a second
- 22:49Speaker 1: agricultural inspection. This was early Saturday morning. Early Saturday morning,
- 22:56Speaker 1: around two am, the CBP agriculturaline Harley alerted to the
- 23:03Speaker 1: rear cargo area of the man's vehicle. That is when
- 23:06Speaker 1: they found twenty two rolls of baloney hidden beneath equipment
- 23:10Speaker 1: in the back of the vehicle. This is also one
- 23:15Speaker 1: of those times I like to point out, is hardly
- 23:18Speaker 1: trained to find baloney? Or did Harley just get really
- 23:20Speaker 1: really happy and excited and distracted, Like whooh, come on,
- 23:28Speaker 1: you know the dogs are at the border and you're
- 23:29Speaker 1: smuggling processed meat. Any dog's gonna find that, let alone
- 23:34Speaker 1: a well trained one.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I mean, I don't think you needed a
- 23:40Speaker 2: lot of training to find the baloney.
- 23:42Speaker 1: No, the baloney also found, I'm sorry, not the baloney.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Border patrol also found sixty undeclared tramadol tablets in the
- 23:53Speaker 1: center console of the vehicle. Trey, isn't tramadola muscle relaxer.
- 23:59Speaker 2: No, it's a pain killer. It's a very mild painkiller.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Okay, never mind, I think I've been prescribed that in
- 24:05Speaker 1: the past.
- 24:06Speaker 2: You have. It's actually it's one of the one of
- 24:09Speaker 2: the things that they prescribed to animals too, So it's
- 24:14Speaker 2: both dogs and humans can take it.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Gotcha. So it was actually a great payday for Harley
- 24:20Speaker 1: the Dog.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean, I mean tram it all is is.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Like I said, it's one of the it's the most
- 24:29Speaker 2: mild of painkillers, so it's very People get it in
- 24:34Speaker 2: Mexico all the time. Jeezus.
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's the two hundred and fifty pounds of bologney was
- 24:40Speaker 1: seized and destroyed by border patrols per USDA regulations. Look,
- 24:46Speaker 1: our country does not like mystery pork products coming into
- 24:51Speaker 1: the country. We want to make sure that we do
- 24:55Speaker 1: all of our artery clogging made in the USA.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Yeah. If if we're gonna get the swine flu, it's
- 25:04Speaker 2: gonna be homegrown.
- 25:05Speaker 1: That's right. If I'm gonna die from swine flu, I wanted.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I wanted to be from an American big.

- 26:05Speaker 1: I'm Daniel Maley. This is the Treehouse Show that is
- 26:08Speaker 1: Trey Trenholme. Today is Thursday, April third, twoenty twenty five.
- 26:13Speaker 1: We talked earlier about Val Kilmer passing away yesterday at
- 26:18Speaker 1: the age of sixty five. I know he had a
- 26:23Speaker 1: long battle with throat cancer. I'm not sure if that
- 26:27Speaker 1: is going down as the official cause of death for
- 26:30Speaker 1: Val Kilmer, but it would make sense. Val Kilmer, the
- 26:35Speaker 1: icy cool star of Top Gun and his later revival
- 26:37Speaker 1: Top Gun Maverick, died Tuesday in Los Angeles at the
- 26:40Speaker 1: age of sixty five. He was candid about ongoing health
- 26:45Speaker 1: issues that affected both his performance and his life outlook.
- 26:48Speaker 1: In a twenty twenty memoir, Val Kilmer revealed that X
- 26:51Speaker 1: Flame Share I Forgot about That helped him through a
- 26:55Speaker 1: cancer diagnosis and detailed the harrowing effects it had on
- 26:58Speaker 1: his body. His daughter, Mercedes, told The New York Times
- 27:02Speaker 1: and the Associated Press that the actor had died of pneumonia,
- 27:06Speaker 1: the lung infection that can range in severity, and with
- 27:11Speaker 1: all the actual health issues he had in later parts
- 27:15Speaker 1: of his life, pneumonia being the one that gets credit
- 27:17Speaker 1: in the end makes sense. So while that is sad,
- 27:23Speaker 1: Trey and I have many fond memories of Val Kilmer,
- 27:28Speaker 1: the first of which was, what was the first movie
- 27:30Speaker 1: you said you remembered him from? Trey?
- 27:37Speaker 2: I want to Real Genius is what sticks out. But
- 27:40Speaker 2: then there was Top Secret. I don't remember which came first.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Top Secret was first. Top Secret came out. I want
- 27:49Speaker 1: to say eighty four, I got it pulled up here,
- 27:51Speaker 1: let me check his IMDb.
- 27:52Speaker 2: And then.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Real Genius came out a year or two later. Top Secret, Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 1: nineteen eighty four, that's where he played secret agent Nick Rivers.
- 28:04Speaker 1: And then Real Genius came out one year later, nineteen
- 28:08Speaker 1: eighty five, and then right after Real Genius was Top
- 28:11Speaker 1: Gun in nineteen eighty six. I AMDB put together a
- 28:17Speaker 1: really good in memoriam for Val Kilmer that I want
- 28:21Speaker 1: to share with you.
- 28:23Speaker 7: Hi, my name's I'm.
- 28:32Speaker 8: OK. I can do anything.
- 28:36Speaker 7: I'm not the first guy.
- 28:36Speaker 9: I fell in love with a girl he met in
- 28:38Speaker 9: a restaurant who then turned out to be the daughter
- 28:39Speaker 9: of a kidnapped scientist.
- 28:41Speaker 3: That's right, found myself.
- 28:44Speaker 1: That right there was from top secret. Let's play a
- 28:47Speaker 1: quick game.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Try.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Let's say if you and I can guess the films
- 28:50Speaker 1: as they get as they get mentioned here. Okay, all right,
- 28:55Speaker 1: here we just kind of spit it out when once
- 28:57Speaker 1: you know it, let's see if you can beat me.
- 29:01Speaker 7: Hi, my name is Stath, I can anything.
- 29:14Speaker 9: I'm not the first guy I fell in love with
- 29:15Speaker 9: a girl he met in the restaurant who then turned
- 29:17Speaker 9: out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist.
- 29:18Speaker 8: That's oh, Kent, that is so unfair, and we were
- 29:23Speaker 8: gonna make you King of the Winner Carnival.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Sorry, I love real Genius. That's I need to h that.
- 29:30Speaker 1: That movie is so good. I really wonder of all
- 29:33Speaker 1: the films that Val Kilmer is known for, I wonder
- 29:35Speaker 1: if most people have really ever seen that movie. I
- 29:38Speaker 1: love that movie.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah I don't. I don't think it did exceptionally well
- 29:43Speaker 2: at the box office. So, but he was so good
- 29:46Speaker 2: in that.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I mean, I don't remember what the school was, but
- 29:48Speaker 1: it was a school. It was a it was sort
- 29:50Speaker 1: of like a school like cal Tech, where it's future
- 29:53Speaker 1: geniuses and scientists and you know, people that will eventually
- 29:57Speaker 1: go on to, you know, make rockets for Elon and JPL.
- 30:01Speaker 1: That's it was a super genius school and he was
- 30:04Speaker 1: the genius of geniuses. There some new kid moves in
- 30:07Speaker 1: Who's I don't know if you ever did anything after
- 30:09Speaker 1: that movie. And one of the things I always remember
- 30:13Speaker 1: about that movie, in addition to Val Kilmer, was the
- 30:16Speaker 1: guy that lived in their closet, Laslow, love Laslow, which,
- 30:22Speaker 1: by the way, Laslow, what's he?
- 30:26Speaker 2: So?
- 30:26Speaker 1: Laslow lived in the closet and they later go and
- 30:29Speaker 1: find out that he's got a whole operation going on
- 30:32Speaker 1: in the closet. I love that movie. I'll okay, I'll stop.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Let's go back to the video.
- 30:36Speaker 7: Daughter of a kidnapped scientist.
- 30:37Speaker 2: So that's where I've found myself.
- 30:39Speaker 8: Oh Kent, that is so unfair. And we were gonna
- 30:42Speaker 8: make you King of the Winner Carnival.
- 30:44Speaker 9: Does this mean we're not friends anymore?
- 30:47Speaker 3: Don't?
- 30:49Speaker 1: Then then you've got Batman forever. Look is again we
- 30:53Speaker 1: mentioned this before. Not my favorite, definitely not my favorite Batman,
- 30:58Speaker 1: but still a hell of an actor. Then here he
- 31:01Speaker 1: is in Willow.
- 31:02Speaker 8: There's a pack here with an acorn point at me.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Charles rather Truful's your problem.
- 31:13Speaker 9: You're everyone's problem.
- 31:14Speaker 1: You know what your problem is?
- 31:15Speaker 9: Ramesses what you care too much?
- 31:18Speaker 2: You got idiots and the diction are you know what
- 31:20Speaker 2: you'll find picture of me? No, the definition of the
- 31:23Speaker 2: word idiot, which you are.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Oh and that last one is from a Kiss Kiss
- 31:31Speaker 1: Bang Bang I have. I have to admit I actually
- 31:36Speaker 1: have never seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and I have either.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I know there are people that love that movie. I
- 31:41Speaker 1: think that's an action cult classic. I'm surprised I haven't
- 31:44Speaker 1: seen it.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Oh, it probably was too highly rated for you.
- 31:52Speaker 1: You know what, You're a real jerk.

- 32:33Speaker 1: I'm Daniel Mally. He's trade Trendholme. Today is Thursday April third,
- 32:37Speaker 1: twoenty twenty five. It's time we celebrate today's date and
- 32:41Speaker 1: do so with.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Birthday all right.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Today is April third, twenty twenty five. Birthdays today. Amanda
- 32:57Speaker 1: Binds has made it to the age of thirty nine,
- 33:00Speaker 1: and I'll admit there was a period there where I
- 33:02Speaker 1: think a lot of us didn't think she'd make it
- 33:04Speaker 1: to her thirties, let alone to thirty nine. So I
- 33:08Speaker 1: guess good on her, although I don't know what she's
- 33:13Speaker 1: doing right now. Maybe she's regretting making it to thirty nine,
- 33:15Speaker 1: but she had some struggles, to put it lightly.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. You really haven't heard much from her
- 33:24Speaker 2: in a while.
- 33:26Speaker 1: It was an interesting time. You had all those young
- 33:29Speaker 1: Disney starlets moving on into more adult careers. Was it
- 33:35Speaker 1: Hillary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bindes. Lindsay Lohan I think
- 33:41Speaker 1: was the one that really shot out of the gates,
- 33:43Speaker 1: and then she got into her troubles. And then Amanda
- 33:47Speaker 1: bind saw what Lindsay Lohan was doing and said, hold
- 33:50Speaker 1: my meth I can do better.
- 33:54Speaker 3: And she did.
- 33:56Speaker 1: But not really sure what she's up to now, but
- 33:58Speaker 1: I wish her well. Speaking of which, I think Linday
- 34:02Speaker 1: Lowland actually got a new project or something coming out.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I think she's she might be on the verge of
- 34:06Speaker 1: a comeback, not a Kardashian style one, I hope, but
- 34:10Speaker 1: an actual She had.
- 34:11Speaker 2: A movie that came out around Christmas. I think it
- 34:15Speaker 2: was on Netflix.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Uh.
- 34:20Speaker 2: I made it through the preview and it was bad.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Oh it was this one of those like bad Hallmark
- 34:26Speaker 1: Christmas style movies. But it was on Netflix. Yes, oh no, yes,
- 34:30Speaker 1: I think I saw a headliner or two about that.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Apparently it was just absolutely dreadful.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's uh. I know she's doing well now and
- 34:41Speaker 2: I wish her the best, but I think she whatever
- 34:44Speaker 2: she's doing use at one point, I want to say
- 34:49Speaker 2: like she had like a club in Abiza or something
- 34:53Speaker 2: and had sobered up and was doing well, And I
- 34:57Speaker 2: think she should stick.
- 34:58Speaker 1: To that because you know, I think the there's an
- 35:00Speaker 1: opportunity here for Lindsay Lohan if she's on the verge
- 35:03Speaker 1: of a comeback. Something that might help push.
- 35:06Speaker 2: That would be.
- 35:09Speaker 1: A reimagining of one of her most successful films, Freaky Friday,
- 35:13Speaker 1: because I think it was Freaky Friday. She was in
- 35:15Speaker 1: that with Jamie Lee Curtis, right, and they did the
- 35:17Speaker 1: old body swap thing. What if you take the Freaky
- 35:21Speaker 1: Friday body swap, and you you merge that with the
- 35:27Speaker 1: Nicholas Cage movie The Unfathomable and I can't say that word,
- 35:31Speaker 1: the unfathomable weight of talent. So you do a body
- 35:37Speaker 1: swap with a regular person with Lindsay Lohan playing Lindsay Lohan.
- 35:42Speaker 1: So it's a regular person swapping with Lindsay Lohan.
- 35:44Speaker 2: The celebrity that might be fun, might be a better actor.
- 35:50Speaker 1: M hm, I'm just spent bawling. Look, Hollywood has way
- 35:55Speaker 1: worse ideas that they produced. Mine not that bad. I'd
- 35:58Speaker 1: watch it. Ooh, maybe it should be Nick Cage and
- 36:02Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan body swam.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Give me my money, Hollywood. I'll be here. Yeah. Other
- 36:11Speaker 1: birthdays today. Kobe Smolders turns forty three today, known as
- 36:16Speaker 1: Robin on How I Met Your Mother. She's also Maria
- 36:19Speaker 1: Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She's also Wonder Woman
- 36:23Speaker 1: in the Lego movies. Kobe Smolders forty three today, Big Vanner.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I like I like her on How I Met Your Mother,
- 36:29Speaker 1: and her Maria Hill character in the Marvel movies was
- 36:32Speaker 1: actually was really really good. I'm trying to remember is
- 36:38Speaker 1: her character alive or dead in the MCU, not that
- 36:40Speaker 1: it really matters anymore because multiverse stuff.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I don't think she ever died.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Okay, wait, was she the one that got killed in
- 36:52Speaker 1: Secret Wars or was that just I don't know, because
- 36:59Speaker 1: here's where my poor memory serves me. I watched every
- 37:04Speaker 1: episode of the Secret Wars show with Samuel L. Jackson,
- 37:08Speaker 1: the Marvel television show, and lucky for my brain, I
- 37:11Speaker 1: have forgotten most of it.
- 37:14Speaker 2: I never saw it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Don't just don't at all. I will tell you the
- 37:21Speaker 1: best thing about that show. Did you see Captain Marvel
- 37:28Speaker 1: the movie Captain Marvel? No? Okay, So in the Marvel
- 37:33Speaker 1: Cinematic Universe, they're these creatures called Scrolls. They're the shape
- 37:36Speaker 1: shifters that are green aliens in the Big Ears, but
- 37:39Speaker 1: they can look like humans. Gotam their leader.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:43Speaker 1: They had their intro into the MCU in the Captain
- 37:46Speaker 1: Marvel movie.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Oh I'm sorry, I did. I thought you were talking
- 37:48Speaker 2: about the sequel to cat I did see Captain Marvel?
- 37:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yea yeah, okay, So the main guy that you
- 37:52Speaker 1: thought was the bad guy in Captain Marvel that ended
- 37:55Speaker 1: up being a good guy, right, Yeah, he's in it.
- 37:57Speaker 1: He and Samuel Jackson are driving around one night during
- 38:01Speaker 1: an episode of Secret Wars, and this is the best
- 38:03Speaker 1: part of the entire series. It's when the alien watches
- 38:08Speaker 1: a guy on the street picking up poop that his
- 38:11Speaker 1: dog had just done, and he turns to sam Jackson
- 38:14Speaker 1: and he says, I'll never understand you humans how it
- 38:17Speaker 1: is you'll pick up the poop from another species. And
- 38:21Speaker 1: when you think about it, that's brilliant and it makes
- 38:23Speaker 1: a lot of sense because he sees it as completely disgusting,
- 38:27Speaker 1: because he sees the two species as completely equal. Why
- 38:30Speaker 1: is one picking up the poop of the other one?
- 38:36Speaker 2: I got nothing, I know.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Because you and I both pick up chiuaba poop on
- 38:40Speaker 1: a daily basis. There's really not a whole lot we.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Can say and clean a cat box just for.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Oh god, we are sad. Yeah, you and I are
- 38:51Speaker 1: childless cat ladies.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Yeah, we're sad. Swifties.
- 38:59Speaker 1: We're going to our own Secret Wars.

- 39:43Speaker 1: com to advertise right here inside the Treehouse. This is
- 39:46Speaker 1: the Treehouse Show. I'm Dan, He's Trey. Just a little
- 39:49Speaker 1: bit more left inside the Treehouse before we close up
- 39:52Speaker 1: for today. So earlier I told you about the man
- 39:56Speaker 1: that was arrested at the US Mexican border with two
- 40:00Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty pounds of illegal bolooney. He was
- 40:04Speaker 1: trying to smuggle it from Mexico into the United States,
- 40:08Speaker 1: but a very very well trained border dog sniffed out
- 40:14Speaker 1: the two hundred and fifty pounds of blooney, which, if
- 40:16Speaker 1: I'm being honest, unless that thing was on ice, I'm
- 40:21Speaker 1: pretty sure that agents themselves could probably smell that much baloney.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm pretty sure Daisy could have picked that one out.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah, three pounds chuaba just tail just going crazy, My god, daddy,
- 40:34Speaker 1: is it Christmas? But there's actually a little bit more
- 40:38Speaker 1: to this baloney smuggling story. This is not the first
- 40:43Speaker 1: time that this guy was arrested at the border trying
- 40:46Speaker 1: to smuggle meat. Okay, this is the second time in
- 40:51Speaker 1: two months the same man was caught trying to smuggle
- 40:54Speaker 1: bloone from Mexico into the United States at the Elpaso
- 40:58Speaker 1: Port of entry in January, CBP agricultural specialists seized fifty
- 41:04Speaker 1: five roles of undeclared blooney from the man. He was
- 41:09Speaker 1: assessed a civil penalty in that case, and the contraband
- 41:13Speaker 1: meat was seized and destroyed because again, as we know,
- 41:16Speaker 1: the US doesn't like, you know, non declared pork products
- 41:21Speaker 1: coming into our country. He was issued a one thousand
- 41:26Speaker 1: dollars promissory note for the prescription medication violation. That's for
- 41:30Speaker 1: the tramadol that we talked about earlier in the second arrest.
- 41:36Speaker 1: But in January he was nailed for even more undeclared blooney.
- 41:41Speaker 1: So now that he is a repeat offender, I wonder
- 41:44Speaker 1: is that going to carry a stiffer sentence, Because just
- 41:46Speaker 1: based on the first part of the story I told
- 41:51Speaker 1: you about, I thought, well, that's probably gonna be a
- 41:53Speaker 1: hefty jail time type sentence. But since this is the
- 41:57Speaker 1: second time he's done it, he didn't get jailed the
- 41:59Speaker 1: first time. In the first time was even more bolooney?
- 42:07Speaker 2: What just that it was even more bolooney?
- 42:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's I heard it.
- 42:15Speaker 2: I I must do some research and find I I'm
- 42:20Speaker 2: puzzled as to what could be what would cause a
- 42:24Speaker 2: man to risk his freedom for bologney.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Yeah, because I mean, it's not like one of the
- 42:32Speaker 1: sexier items that you could smuggle that might make you popular,
- 42:36Speaker 1: like say cocaine. You'd be the you know, all you
- 42:39Speaker 1: got to do is get into one Michael Bay movie
- 42:41Speaker 1: and you'll be swinging around like you're the king.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Right if any.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Nightclub in Miami, man, you'll be popular slinging MDMA some cocaine.
- 42:52Speaker 1: But you're not cool if you're smuggling blooney.
- 42:54Speaker 2: I mean it's not you could at least like go
- 42:57Speaker 2: for mortardella or something, the fancy bologna.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I want, I want the mortadella.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Isn't that just bologna?
- 43:05Speaker 1: No? No, no, no, okay. It just goes to show
- 43:10Speaker 1: that how how you say something carries an equal amount
- 43:14Speaker 1: of weight as to the thing that it is, Maybe
- 43:17Speaker 1: more so in the case of bologney.
- 43:20Speaker 2: I mean, he might as well have been smuggling wieners.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Because that's what he's gonna be. That's what he's going
- 43:28Speaker 2: to be, stuffed.
- 43:28Speaker 1: With two hundred and fifty pounds of it.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Your wiener has a first name.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Well done, so well well done, and also good job
