- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Kevin supports her a daily back in the
- 0:02Speaker 1: chair after my holiday. On today's show, we welcome a
- 0:10Speaker 1: race director, Ray Johnson of Sunday's Folkston Coastal ten K
- 0:14Speaker 1: into the studio for an update. I've got lots of
- 0:21Speaker 1: cricket scores, the report of my visit to Radna Park
- 0:25Speaker 1: Junior Park run and the visit to the Radna Park
- 0:29Speaker 1: Senior Park Run. We also have an update report on
- 0:40Speaker 1: how four local boxers from the Folkston Amateur Boxing Club
- 0:44Speaker 1: performed in a home boxing tournament on Saturday. And there's
- 0:51Speaker 1: a few other things I want to pack in if
- 0:53Speaker 1: we've got the time. So the sun's out, isn't it.
- 1:04Speaker 1: What a bit of lovely, lovely time has been since
- 1:07Speaker 1: I've been back from Cyprus. It's almost like cypress weather. Hey,
- 1:14Speaker 1: what a fantastic Bank holiday weekend we had it Normally
- 1:17Speaker 1: paus the rain, doesn't it bank holidays? But that was
- 1:20Speaker 1: a crack I've gone by. So let's get this show
- 1:32Speaker 1: on the road with its quirky track from nineteen seventy
- 1:36Speaker 1: How a little listen to this one? When was the
- 1:38Speaker 1: last time you had this one? Big yellow taxi by
- 1:41Speaker 1: Joni Mitchell. The Paradise, put up a part in Love
- 1:57Speaker 1: with the People Till we Go. Joni Mitchell there, Joni
- 2:05Speaker 1: Mitchell there from nineteen seventy and did you have a
- 2:08Speaker 1: little chuckle at the end there go on? I bet
- 2:10Speaker 1: you did. Anyway, It's nice to be back in the chair.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I was back last Saturday actually sharing the show with Ady.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I was a guest on the show as he's the
- 2:19Speaker 1: main presenter. But today's back in the real chair and
- 2:23Speaker 1: with my own Thursday show bringing as much local sport
- 2:26Speaker 1: as I can over to you. And what I'm going
- 2:30Speaker 1: to do actually, I'm going to start with an event
- 2:32Speaker 1: that only happened last Saturday and we found out about
- 2:36Speaker 1: it and so I popped along to see one of
- 2:38Speaker 1: the organizers, Barry Barry Pluck. It was the Folkston Amateur
- 2:42Speaker 1: Boxing Club and they had some of their local talent
- 2:45Speaker 1: in action last weekend in what was a home show
- 2:48Speaker 1: run at Hawkins Community Center. Now. The show consisted of
- 2:51Speaker 1: fifteen bouts, with clubs traveling as far as Sheffield to
- 2:55Speaker 1: be part of the evening and Folkston had four boys
- 2:58Speaker 1: in action. So first off with senior boxer Eddie Stacey
- 3:03Speaker 1: who was making his debut and did an excellent job,
- 3:06Speaker 1: winning by a unanimous points decision, dominating all three rounds
- 3:10Speaker 1: by a boxer from TKO Elite Club in Chatham. Eddie's
- 3:14Speaker 1: performances in the first contest. In his first contest was
- 3:18Speaker 1: impressive as he listened attentively to his corner and delivered
- 3:22Speaker 1: a near perfect performance following instructions throughout. Next up was
- 3:27Speaker 1: rock O'Hart, the fifteen year old Forston opponent from Base
- 3:30Speaker 1: ABC who comes from Enfield. In a scruffy contest with
- 3:35Speaker 1: the clash of styles, Rocko took a majority points decision,
- 3:39Speaker 1: making it two wins from two for the Folks and Boxers.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Lucas McKenzie, who attends Folkston Academy, followed against a much
- 3:47Speaker 1: taller opponent from Honor and Glory. They're called and they
- 3:50Speaker 1: came all the way down from Greenwich. Now. Despite the
- 3:53Speaker 1: Folks and boxer being aggressive trying to close the distance,
- 3:56Speaker 1: his opponent was very good defensively, not leaving many areas
- 4:00Speaker 1: for Lucas to score, and at the end of the
- 4:03Speaker 1: contest it was Honor and Glory boxer that took a
- 4:05Speaker 1: very close points decision. In the fourth bout for the
- 4:09Speaker 1: Folks and the lads. Finally, exciting senior boxer Abu Ahmed
- 4:14Speaker 1: was in action against an opponent from Margay Amateur Boxing Club.
- 4:18Speaker 1: The Margate boxer started the contest very aggressively, landing some
- 4:21Speaker 1: big power punches on the Folkston boxer in the first
- 4:24Speaker 1: thirty seconds. However, after weather in the storm, Abu sprang
- 4:28Speaker 1: into life in his typical exciting fashion and repeatedly continued
- 4:32Speaker 1: to score well in what was a very entertaining contest
- 4:35Speaker 1: for the crowd. At the end of the three rounds,
- 4:38Speaker 1: Abu took a unanimous points decision, making it a good
- 4:41Speaker 1: day for Folkston Amateur Boxing Club with three wins out
- 4:44Speaker 1: of four for its boxers. Now, the Amateur Boxing Club
- 4:47Speaker 1: has been in the town for a very very long time.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You may remember it was up the Dover Road when
- 4:52Speaker 1: it was a bit more of an old spit and
- 4:54Speaker 1: sawdust ring where they used to practice, and now they've
- 4:58Speaker 1: moved down to the f fifty one Center and they're
- 5:01Speaker 1: based there. But the stage a competition is a bit
- 5:04Speaker 1: tough because when I was speaking to Barry, they were
- 5:08Speaker 1: actually putting up the ring. You know, it does take
- 5:11Speaker 1: an outside firm of contractors to come along put the
- 5:13Speaker 1: ring up check. It's all out to the standards. Otherwise
- 5:16Speaker 1: no contest goes ahead. But it's great to know that.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I mean, the sport of boxing is very discipline. It's
- 5:26Speaker 1: not about knocking out out of your opponent. It's about
- 5:29Speaker 1: being decisive, being fit, very very fit indeed, and just
- 5:34Speaker 1: giving it your best shot. Really so well up to
- 5:36Speaker 1: Barry and all the team Minute folks and Amateur Boxing Club,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and they have got another show coming up in the autumn,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but we do hope to get them in for a
- 5:44Speaker 1: chat before then. Right out over bit of music now
- 5:47Speaker 1: from two thousand and five, This is the Coral and
- 5:49Speaker 1: in the Morning from two thousand and five In the
- 6:06Speaker 1: Morning by the Coral. Are you a morning person? Well,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I am. I think more active in the morning, you know,
- 6:14Speaker 1: get up and do stuff. In the afternoon put your
- 6:17Speaker 1: feet up. But some people have really really struggled, didn't
- 6:19Speaker 1: They struggle to wake up and they probably don't come
- 6:22Speaker 1: around to about eleven o'clock after a few cups of coffee.
- 6:26Speaker 1: So are you a morning person or an afternoon person
- 6:28Speaker 1: or even at night owl? Some people? I remember starting
- 6:32Speaker 1: Eurotunnel many years ago and that we had to do
- 6:34Speaker 1: a night shift first time I've ever done a night shift.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I couldn't believe people were so active. I thought we
- 6:40Speaker 1: should be home in bed. What's going on right, guys?
- 6:44Speaker 1: It was Let's do some cricket news now. Now there's
- 6:47Speaker 1: another hot weekend last weekend even for cricketers, So let's
- 6:51Speaker 1: bring you some results from some of our local games. Now,
- 6:55Speaker 1: it wasn't a good day for folks than first eleven.
- 6:57Speaker 1: They traveled to Beckenham who batted first and made two
- 7:00Speaker 1: hundred and forty five for eight. Folks that have only
- 7:04Speaker 1: managed one hundred and twenty four all out, so lost
- 7:08Speaker 1: the game by one hundred and twenty one runs. This
- 7:10Speaker 1: Saturday they're at home to a Broadstairs At first eleven.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I've batted first in a home fixtures against Sherwood, scoring
- 7:19Speaker 1: two hundred and thirty four for six, but Sherwood scored
- 7:22Speaker 1: the two hundred and thirty five for six, winning the
- 7:25Speaker 1: match by four wickets. This Saturday, hither away to a broadstairs.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Second eleven Hawkins, you were at home to Hulcombe and
- 7:33Speaker 1: blue Bell Hill Cricket Club. Now I must admit we
- 7:36Speaker 1: haven't heard those in the years I've been reporting cricket,
- 7:40Speaker 1: so they've I have a rapidly gained promotion from another
- 7:43Speaker 1: division or they're a new club. Anyway. They won the
- 7:46Speaker 1: toss and decided to bat, making one hundred and ninety
- 7:48Speaker 1: all out. Hulk On them scored one hundred and ninety
- 7:51Speaker 1: one for seven, winning the game by three wickets. This
- 7:55Speaker 1: Saturday the Hawks are away to Raynham. Second eleven, i'd
- 7:59Speaker 1: Green were at home to Nelson Cricket Club, who travel
- 8:02Speaker 1: over from Thanet. The Green won the toss, batty first
- 8:05Speaker 1: and scored one hundred and fourteen all out. Nelson made
- 8:08Speaker 1: one hundred and sixteen for the loss of just one wicket,
- 8:11Speaker 1: winning the game by nine wickets. So this Saturday they're
- 8:14Speaker 1: away to Northward which means a trip just outside Sittingbourn.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So that's four reports so far and not good news.
- 8:22Speaker 1: And we've got Folkston, Hive Hawkins and Hive Green all
- 8:25Speaker 1: lost their games. But we've got a bit of news
- 8:27Speaker 1: to a good news to finish off. Sialtwood were at
- 8:30Speaker 1: home to Canterbury Thirds who played who batted first and
- 8:33Speaker 1: made one hundred and fifty seven for nine. Siltwood then
- 8:36Speaker 1: scored one hundred and fifty eight for four, winning by
- 8:40Speaker 1: six wickets. This Saturday it's their turn to travel to
- 8:43Speaker 1: Thanet to play the Nelson Cricket Club and finally another
- 8:47Speaker 1: victory to report. Sipson Park won the toss at home
- 8:51Speaker 1: against Offham who come from the Maidstone region, and batty
- 8:55Speaker 1: first making two hundred and forty for nine. They then
- 8:58Speaker 1: bowled out often for all for one hundred and fifty four,
- 9:01Speaker 1: winning the match by eighty six runs. This Saturday it's
- 9:05Speaker 1: a short trip away to play Mersem Sports which is
- 9:08Speaker 1: sort of up there in the Ashford direction. And I
- 9:11Speaker 1: had a quick look at the weather forecast and you
- 9:13Speaker 1: know what, it looks good for this weekend, as it
- 9:15Speaker 1: should do and for cricketers anyway. So let's so we
- 9:19Speaker 1: have a nice sunny weekend once more. Okay, a bit
- 9:22Speaker 1: of music now two thousand and eight moving up, This
- 9:25Speaker 1: is en people and a site for sore eights. Well,
- 9:48Speaker 1: well that's it for me really for today, and I'll
- 9:50Speaker 1: be back on Saturday where our guest will be Cassie
- 9:53Speaker 1: Sinclair and she'll be telling us how the training is
- 9:56Speaker 1: going as she attempts to take on a mountain section
- 9:59Speaker 1: on her push of a let up to the France
- 10:02Speaker 1: fam which is basically a Mini tou of de France
- 10:05Speaker 1: for ladies. There's something I'm really eager to find out about.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I don't know anything about it. This will be a first.
- 10:10Speaker 1: She's going to run the Park Run on Saturday. Then
- 10:12Speaker 1: she's going to cycle down and have a chat with
