- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good afternoon from the chicken coop.
- 0:29So I am shooting it this afternoon.
- 0:31I'm shooting our podcast this afternoon because I know
- 0:34tomorrow morning it's going to be icy and cold again.
- 0:37Things are starting to melt and I've got out here finally got
- 0:40the girls all kind of cleaned up and straightened out and I
- 0:42thought that I would record today to make it better for
- 0:46tomorrow morning. So we are talking about defining
- 0:49your version of success and we talk a lot about these types of
- 0:53things, but this particular time of year always seems to be 1
- 0:56where the subject comes up more and more because it appears that
- 1:01people will want to give you their opinion of what you're
- 1:03working on. So everyone always wants to
- 1:05know, did you said any goals? Do you have any intentions,
- 1:08resolutions, whatever? Everybody's asking.
- 1:11And then they want to give you their opinion of the stuff like,
- 1:15oh, you're doing that. Well, that seems really hard.
- 1:17Or how's that going? And it's not necessarily that
- 1:20they're giving you their support in the in the process of it.
- 1:23They're more or less just kind of giving you their thoughts,
- 1:27maybe not their criticisms, but definitely their thoughts.
- 1:30And it's so important that we understand how we define the
- 1:34win, we define the goal. Because if, if we don't have our
- 1:38version of what the goal is, and we don't have our version of
- 1:40what success in the goal is and our version of how those little
- 1:45steps along the way are, then we get lost in the fray of whatever
- 1:49they're talking to us about. And this can be very difficult
- 1:53because we maybe we're not 100% on it yet.
- 1:57Maybe we're still in the process of it, like as I'm starting to
- 2:00redefine what I want to do this year on the farm, I can, I can
- 2:04discuss this with people, but they'll be like, oh, why do you
- 2:06want to take that on? Like if I bring up wanting to
- 2:08get mini donkeys or thinking about doing other animals, why
- 2:12do you want more responsibilities?
- 2:14Like why would you want to take that on?
- 2:15And or, you know, adding on to a section to the chicken coop or
- 2:19expanding it, the flower gardens or creating a greenhouse.
- 2:23Everyone always seems to have opinions on this stuff because
- 2:26it doesn't meld with their version of the world.
- 2:29So oftentimes as people get older, they want to move things
- 2:34away from them. They want to have less
- 2:36responsibility, fewer things to deal with.
- 2:38And I am pretty much the exact opposite.
- 2:41I am like, I want to do everything that I've always
- 2:43wanted to do. I want to pull it all together.
- 2:45I want to make sure that I am putting myself in the most
- 2:51productive phase because I feel like I don't want to leave
- 2:54anything on the table. I am like, you know, I often
- 2:57joke around and say I'm of the def leopard age where it's
- 2:59better to burn up than fade away.
- 3:00And I definitely mean that. I would really, truly rather do
- 3:04that than have myself have this. You can hear me crunching while
- 3:07I'm walking with the snow out here at the coop.
- 3:09I, I would, I would absolutely rather have that be my life than
- 3:13have my life be like, oh, I wish I had done something like that.
- 3:17That just makes me crazy. My friends.
- 3:21I don't want to leave anything on the table.
- 3:23I want it all to be awesome and I want it to be just set up so
- 3:26that I can have this tremendous feeling of accomplishment.
- 3:30So I know when I bring things up to people, they're going to have
- 3:35opinions. Like I just had this happen at
- 3:37the conference I was speaking at and people were coming up
- 3:40afterwards and talking to me and people were like, Oh my gosh,
- 3:43why do you want to go out? And, you know, not everybody.
- 3:46There were quite a few people who had the opinion that like,
- 3:49wow, that's so cool. I love that you're doing that.
- 3:51That's, that's so inspiring. And then other people that were
- 3:54like, Oh my God, why are you doing that?
- 3:57And I, I just laughed and I was like, well, you got to figure
- 4:00out what you want to accomplish and what you want to be a part
- 4:03of before you pass from this plane of the world.
- 4:08And I'm very clear on that. I'm very clear on what I want to
- 4:12make happen. And I get clearer and clearer as
- 4:14time goes on. So the point I'm trying to make
- 4:17to you all is you've got to know this version for yourself.
- 4:20Otherwise you'll be open to other people's interpretations
- 4:24and then you may get sidelined with what it is you truly want.
- 4:28So if you haven't done it yet, sit down and try to figure that
- 4:31out. Not just what the goal is, but
- 4:33what is your version of success with the goal?
- 4:35How will you know when you reach that success?
- 4:38How, what are the milestones along the way that you're
- 4:40willing to see so that you can make sure you're really, truly
- 4:44putting yourself on a path of understanding?
- 4:47That's a win. And someone else is like, whoa,
- 4:49you're not there yet. Oh boy, I love when someone says
- 4:52that to me. Well, you're not there yet.
- 4:53And I'm like, no, but I'm on my Rd.
- 4:56Are you on a road? And I say that jokingly, but
- 5:00guess what? They're probably not even on the
- 5:02road because most of the most critical people out there
- 5:05haven't even started the walk, let alone fly on the road.
- 5:09So I'm encouraging you to sit down, write it out so that you
- 5:12know what it looks like, and then you can go from there
- 5:15without having to deal with somebody else's version of it
- 5:18for you or their opinions or the things that put you in a
- 5:21position of having to answer for something that you know in your
- 5:24heart is the right thing for you.
- 5:26So I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you guys
- 5:30tomorrow. Bye.
