- 0:53Speaker 1: Uh, I'm good. We're wrapping up our Christmas tour.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Love it.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Currently we have two more shows. I'm in Fort Dodge, Iowa,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and it is three degrees. It feels colder.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Than that, nicer than here.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Well, it's currently snowing. Fun so our crew is pretty
- 1:15Speaker 1: excited to have to lug all the stuff through the snow.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Pretty awesome, pretty fun.
- 1:22Speaker 1: But the facilities here in Fort Dodge, Iowa are great.
- 1:26Speaker 1: We're at a college and yeah, they were very very nice.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I'm in a practice room currently.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Sick dude. I don't think I've ever been to Fort
- 1:37Speaker 3: Dodge before.
- 1:39Speaker 1: You know, I'm not sure if I have either. This
- 1:42Speaker 1: does not look familiar. If we've played here before, I
- 1:45Speaker 1: don't think it was in this venue.
- 1:47Speaker 3: What's the college?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Iowa Community Central College, Central Community College. It's ic CC.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Oh, I see CCCIC got you?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yes? So yeah, man, the Christmas tour has been going
- 2:05Speaker 1: really well. We're all very excited to be done with it. However,
- 2:10Speaker 1: of course, we've just been We've been going pretty hard
- 2:13Speaker 1: the last three months.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, he has been. I mean this is You've
- 2:17Speaker 3: done three tours in the last three months, and yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 3: it's pretty wild. So we're nice though that you guys
- 2:23Speaker 3: are getting done kind of earlier than that is other
- 2:26Speaker 3: years like that.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yes, that's the big silver lining for sure, is that
- 2:30Speaker 1: once we're done on the fifteenth, we are done for
- 2:34Speaker 1: a while.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Soul dude. That's cool.
- 2:36Speaker 1: You get to actually spend the Christmas season at home.
- 2:39Speaker 3: So fun.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I love that.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that's great.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Excited, Yeah, buddy.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Very cool.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Have you been watching any fun new movies at all?
- 2:46Speaker 3: I have. I went to the theater last week. It
- 2:50Speaker 3: doesn't matter when and we saw Kill Bill the whole
- 2:54Speaker 3: bloody affair.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, how long was that?
- 2:58Speaker 3: Four hours and twenty five minutes?
- 3:01Speaker 1: I think cool, dude.
- 3:03Speaker 3: They did have an intermission, which we weren't sure about
- 3:06Speaker 3: before we went, so if anyone's like thinking about it,
- 3:09Speaker 3: there is an intermission, which was nice.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Yeah, thankful.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I was doing okay, but it would have been
- 3:16Speaker 3: probably a problem. And honestly, we got to like refeel
- 3:19Speaker 3: drinks and get some because we got popcorn. I was like,
- 3:22Speaker 3: I'm here for five hours, I'm absolutely getting snacks, Like
- 3:25Speaker 3: what are.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Totally who are we getting here?
- 3:27Speaker 3: You know, despite going to dinner beforehand. But yeah, it
- 3:33Speaker 3: was wonderful, really fun dude. Honestly, like it cruised by.
- 3:39Speaker 3: It felt really really really great to be there and
- 3:43Speaker 3: just see it at the pacing of it was really fun.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I haven't seen Kill Bill, I don't think since we
- 3:51Speaker 3: did the podcast on them.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Probably no, I haven't.
- 3:54Speaker 3: So it was just really fun that those movies are
- 3:57Speaker 3: just they're so gory, obviously, but man, they're so good
- 4:00Speaker 3: and so interesting and weird and fun. Yeah. I had
- 4:04Speaker 3: a really great time. It was. It was a ton
- 4:06Speaker 3: of fun and it's like, I feel like the cool
- 4:09Speaker 3: thing about reintroducing them in theaters is the people that
- 4:13Speaker 3: go are super into it. So they're you know, like
- 4:16Speaker 3: we cheered at points and you know, like laughed at
- 4:19Speaker 3: you know, all the same spots, and it is it's
- 4:22Speaker 3: a fun communal experience if nothing else. But yeah, it
- 4:25Speaker 3: was really sick, dude. It was. It was very fun
- 4:28Speaker 3: to go see. For sure, I recommend it if you're
- 4:31Speaker 3: into those films at all. It sounds like again, I
- 4:35Speaker 3: hadn't seen it recently so or enough times to know
- 4:39Speaker 3: exactly what changed, but they did add and change some things.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I guess, like you know, in the Crazy eighty Eights
- 4:46Speaker 3: that's in black and white, and I think we read
- 4:49Speaker 3: the trivia that that was to get the rating down
- 4:51Speaker 3: because black and white blood doesn't matter as much for
- 4:55Speaker 3: some reason. That was all in color this time, which.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Is kind of cool.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And I think they added maybe a couple extra little
- 5:03Speaker 3: scenes and things like that. So but it was sick, man.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I had a great time. It was really really fun.
- 5:10Speaker 1: That's fun, dude.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Honestly, we got out of there and I was like
- 5:12Speaker 3: I thought I would be like kind of like okay,
- 5:16Speaker 3: but it was just great the whole time.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It was really fun.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Nice. Yeah. So how about you. Have you seen any
- 5:21Speaker 3: movies lately?
- 5:23Speaker 1: Yes? I was on Netflix and happened to watch the
- 5:28Speaker 1: Noah Bambach written and directed film j Kelly, I want
- 5:33Speaker 1: to see this. Yeah. It features Clooney and Adam Sandler.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Cool.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It is pretty great, dude. It's really really well written, nice,
- 5:42Speaker 1: well acted. It's about a famous movie star played by
- 5:46Speaker 1: George Clooney, so it was a big stretch for him.
- 5:49Speaker 3: To tough for him, Yeah, sure, and about.
- 5:54Speaker 1: His relationships with the people around him. Adam Sandler plays
- 5:59Speaker 1: his manager, and it's some of the best acting of
- 6:02Speaker 1: his career. He is awesome in it.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Wow.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Okay, although he does use a term of endearment that
- 6:11Speaker 1: really drives me nuts throughout the whole thing. Oh, he
- 6:16Speaker 1: calls everybody puppy or his clients poppy. Poppy. Come on,
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'm just like, Oh, I didn't like that at all. Yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 1: it took me out every time he said it, like,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I hate this. Wasn't into it, la. I was not
- 6:33Speaker 1: a fan of that choice. I'm just saying that.
- 6:36Speaker 3: So fun. But yeah, it's like based on a manager
- 6:40Speaker 3: they know.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I mean, like, I'm sure but I thought it was
- 6:45Speaker 1: really well done. It definitely makes you think about what
- 6:48Speaker 1: your priority should be. Oh, I got choked up a
- 6:52Speaker 1: couple of times. It's yeah, and acted very well. It's
- 6:55Speaker 1: definitely worth the watch. I was surprised it went straight
- 6:57Speaker 1: to streaming because it's I think it.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Got nothing worth seeing. Low nominations and stuff.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Too, right Sandler and Clooney, I think.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, nice, Well it's on my radar, right, Yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 3: I love that.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Check it out pretty cool. Speaking of the streaming platforms,
- 7:13Speaker 1: what was the last thing you saw there?
- 7:16Speaker 3: So I did a rewatch, as I want to do,
- 7:20Speaker 3: but this time it was of a series. I watched
- 7:23Speaker 3: all of m caught up on Stranger Things because I
- 7:26Speaker 3: was like, it's been so long.
- 7:27Speaker 1: The old ones, so one through four?
- 7:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I went through and now have watched I'm up
- 7:32Speaker 3: to date.
- 7:33Speaker 1: You watched one through four?
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, I did. Holy, nice, wonderful. I had a
- 7:39Speaker 3: really nice time. Actually I wasn't sure. You know, they're
- 7:45Speaker 3: not perfect, but they're super fun and it was cool
- 7:48Speaker 3: to get to revisit those characters the new season. Have
- 7:51Speaker 3: you watched the new one at all?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Yeah, they're so old, but it is still very fun.
- 7:58Speaker 3: And some crazy stuff. I think, actually I'm going on
- 8:02Speaker 3: New Year's Day to the to the like in theater.
- 8:06Speaker 3: One cool because they're showing the finale in the theater.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I think, okay, cool.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I think it's like Christmas. We're getting two more episodes
- 8:17Speaker 3: and then the finale is New Year's Eve slash Day.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Okay. I think it's for along and a bit. That's fun.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yeah, which kind of smart on their part, honestly to
- 8:26Speaker 3: you know, get it going. But yeah, I really had
- 8:29Speaker 3: fun with it. It's been very fun. I did not
- 8:32Speaker 3: remember all the Lord of the Rings references that happened
- 8:36Speaker 3: in it. There's a ton of them, and maybe because
- 8:38Speaker 3: I've read the silmrillion now and I hadn't at that point,
- 8:40Speaker 3: but just tons of that and lots of nerdy stuff,
- 8:44Speaker 3: which is fun. It's fun. And then the new ones,
- 8:49Speaker 3: the new I can't remember how many there were this time.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Season five, there's four episodes.
- 8:54Speaker 3: It was four. Yeah, that's right. They've been great. I thought, like, really,
- 8:59Speaker 3: still high qual and everyone's good. No one got to like,
- 9:03Speaker 3: oh no, they're awkward. You know, we didn't get to
- 9:06Speaker 3: what's the boy boyhood? We didn't get a boyhood situation
- 9:10Speaker 3: where it was like, oh no, he got so mud yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 3: the poor guy and not his part, but yeah, just
- 9:17Speaker 3: like oh no, oh no, oh no. But yeah, it's
- 9:21Speaker 3: been super fun and I loved it. So that's what
- 9:24Speaker 3: I said, Nic, How about you? What have you been starreaming?
- 9:27Speaker 1: I was also on Netflix. Netflix has been putting on
- 9:30Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff lately.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Yeah, they've been killed.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and I watched a recent series they put out
- 9:35Speaker 1: called The Beast in Me.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I've heard a lot of things about this town.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:41Speaker 1: It features Claire Danes and Matthew Reese. It's a really
- 9:46Speaker 1: fun thriller mystery. Claire Danes plays a struggling writer and
- 9:51Speaker 1: Matthew Reese plays this like billionaire who's famous and people
- 9:57Speaker 1: think he might have killed his wife and he ends
- 10:00Speaker 1: up moving in the same neighborhood as Claire Danes and
- 10:06Speaker 1: chaos and.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Sure, sure it unravels from there.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It sure does. It's very very intense. Britney Snow is
- 10:13Speaker 1: in it as well. She's really good.
- 10:14Speaker 3: All fun. Do you think is there like a button
- 10:19Speaker 3: in Hollywood that's like, we need a lady who can
- 10:23Speaker 3: act and have some like trauma in her past. Get
- 10:26Speaker 3: me Claire Danes.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I did. I think she was getting a lot
- 10:29Speaker 1: of people were making fun of her a lot because
- 10:31Speaker 1: she does the like when she's explaining something and she's
- 10:35Speaker 1: like emotionally like quiver quiver. Yeah, she does that a lot.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Doesn't bug me, but I think it does bug a
- 10:42Speaker 1: lot of people.
- 10:44Speaker 3: People are jerks. They are I mean, I get it.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I went on and on about that dude running in
- 10:50Speaker 3: Uh almost famous so we see things.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Right, yeah, Patrick fugit. Yeah. She was good Inness though,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and I felt like I really hadn't seen her in
- 11:03Speaker 1: anything for a long time since Homeland for me that
- 11:06Speaker 1: I've watched. And Matthew Reeves is just awesome. He's really
- 11:12Speaker 1: crazy in this. And now what's his name from Breaking Bad?
- 11:15Speaker 1: Mike the old guy?
- 11:17Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, what is that his name?
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, he's been in movies for so long ever, he's
- 11:23Speaker 1: such a great actor, just really good. Yes, Jonathan Bank
- 11:27Speaker 1: he's in it as well. Yeah, so that's yeah, if
- 11:30Speaker 1: you're into it. There's definitely some violence in there, so
- 11:34Speaker 1: if you don't like seeing that, I'd avoid it. But
- 11:38Speaker 1: other than that, it's just really fun mystery thriller crime because.
- 11:43Speaker 3: It's like a mini series then too, Like.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't imagine.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Probably, yeah, I kind of like that when they do that,
- 11:50Speaker 3: knowing you're in like.
- 11:52Speaker 1: This is the story.
- 11:53Speaker 3: It's fun.
- 11:54Speaker 1: It's like an eight hour movie or something.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Yeah, totally.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah, very cool, buddy.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah, well, what do you think should do if you

- 13:30Speaker 3: I think we talked about it in the last episode.
- 13:32Speaker 3: We Our friend Sammy is brilliant, well versed in all
- 13:37Speaker 3: things Wicked and theater and all those things, so we
- 13:41Speaker 3: had to get her back. Let's give it up for Sammy.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Mata ruckta.
- 13:46Speaker 1: What's up, Sammy?
- 13:47Speaker 4: Hi, guys, he.
- 13:51Speaker 3: How art thou?
- 13:52Speaker 4: I'm good. I was just saying I went wild last
- 13:56Speaker 4: night and saw a ten to fifteen movie time fifteen
- 13:59Speaker 4: minutes after my bedtime.
- 14:01Speaker 3: That's bonkers.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Yeah, crazy. So I'm a wee bit delusional at the moment,
- 14:08Speaker 4: but I think it'll make for a good podcast, like.
- 14:12Speaker 1: You, thank you for We're doing this pretty early. It's
- 14:16Speaker 1: like right when I could get to the venue here,
- 14:18Speaker 1: so in Sammy's two hours earlier than I am.
- 14:21Speaker 4: So I like the morning times.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Okay, good me too.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I like it too with you, appreciate you being here.
- 14:29Speaker 3: It's on a weekend, so I've had coffee. That's gonna
- 14:31Speaker 3: be something. This might be a silly one watch not
- 14:34Speaker 3: a super silly movie.
- 14:36Speaker 4: No, not a silly movie. I've got my tea with
- 14:38Speaker 4: my witch on it.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Fun and have you been to Salem?
- 14:44Speaker 4: No, I'm dying too. Adam. Adam got this for me
- 14:47Speaker 4: when you guys were there dying to go. But I
- 14:50Speaker 4: also wanted to show off. Adam's mother is an artist
- 14:53Speaker 4: and she made this sweatshirt for Adam when he was
- 14:56Speaker 4: a child. And I was like, that's coming home with me.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I want to it.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Is now mine. Oh my gosh, that's the best. People
- 15:05Speaker 1: who can't see it. It is the tin Man, the
- 15:08Speaker 1: scarecrow and the cowardly Lion.
- 15:11Speaker 3: That's the greatest. Should we get a picture of that rap?
- 15:15Speaker 3: Do you want to, like sure, put that on the
- 15:18Speaker 3: thing or something? Like, Okay, hold on, I gotta I
- 15:22Speaker 3: gotta do this right Okay, one, two, three?
- 15:27Speaker 1: Great?
- 15:27Speaker 4: We did it?
- 15:30Speaker 1: You guys could hear us do that?
- 15:33Speaker 3: Yeah? Whatever, this is the this is they're here for
- 15:35Speaker 3: the real.
- 15:39Speaker 4: That we're all behind the curtain.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Also, the curtain is braids like her braids, which I
- 15:47Speaker 3: really like.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Stop it.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I mean it's kind of true. Uh, guys, you should
- 15:56Speaker 3: go to Instagram and follow the reading Jones right Sammy's
- 16:00Speaker 3: books capades. Samy, I don't know how you feel about
- 16:05Speaker 3: e readers, but I wanted to let you know. I
- 16:06Speaker 3: bought another one and I have a paper right now too, So.
- 16:10Speaker 4: I am e reading. I'm e reading at the moment. Anyway,
- 16:13Speaker 4: anyone consumes books is reading, so I love it.
- 16:17Speaker 3: I just booked a vacation. I was like, I don't
- 16:19Speaker 3: want my giant one. Oh, we didn't even talk about that.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I'm going to Malta.
- 16:26Speaker 1: That's the week. Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 3: I just randomly was like, I want to go somewhere,
- 16:31Speaker 3: and damn it, I work, I can treat myself. So
- 16:35Speaker 3: I'm going in February to Malta for a week.
- 16:38Speaker 4: What made you choose Malta? Uh?
- 16:41Speaker 3: So, I've been really hemming and hung about a New
- 16:42Speaker 3: Zealand trip and that just felt like too expensive and
- 16:46Speaker 3: too much to plan, and I was like I need
- 16:49Speaker 3: sometimes I just get wander lusty and just need like
- 16:52Speaker 3: something on the calendar, you know, to be like ooh,
- 16:56Speaker 3: I can like go on Google Maps and walk around
- 16:58Speaker 3: and see you fun things I want to see. I've
- 17:01Speaker 3: bend to Maltaan cruise ships before and it was super neat,
- 17:04Speaker 3: but never during the night and never for an extended
- 17:08Speaker 3: period of time. And that flight was pretty cheap. Honestly,
- 17:11Speaker 3: I just did Google flights and typed in. I just
- 17:14Speaker 3: looked around the world and was like, this timeframe's the
- 17:18Speaker 3: what's the cheapest flight I can find? And that one
- 17:21Speaker 3: was pretty cheap and only one one layover and razy.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Man, I'm excited.
- 17:26Speaker 4: That's exciting.
- 17:28Speaker 3: But anyway, I bought a waterproof kindle for that because
- 17:30Speaker 3: I was like, I don't want to bring I have
- 17:32Speaker 3: the giant one you can write on, which is cool
- 17:35Speaker 3: and grant for when you're at home, but I was like,
- 17:38Speaker 3: I need a little over one.
- 17:40Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 17:42Speaker 3: They're reading Jones. That's how we got here. Likes to read.
- 17:46Speaker 3: And then I made it about myself. I want to do.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I am Glinda in this relationship. I think we can
- 17:53Speaker 3: all agree the overlap is I mean, those venn diagrams
- 17:59Speaker 3: are just one circle. I'm gonna shut up now follow
- 18:03Speaker 3: the reading Jones, and I'm excited to be I have
- 18:07Speaker 3: had Kafy.
- 18:08Speaker 1: This episode is brought to you by Kaffe. By Kafy. Woo.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Okay, well, what do you guys think? Should we get
- 18:15Speaker 3: into it and start chatting a little wicked for good? Yes?
- 18:19Speaker 4: Let's do it.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Okay, Rob, you want to get a started with our
- 18:21Speaker 3: rough synopsy eaves Yes.
- 18:24Speaker 5: Now demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, Alpha
- 18:28Speaker 5: Be lives in exile in the Assie and Forest, while
- 18:32Speaker 5: Glinda resides at the Palace in Emerald City, reveling in
- 18:36Speaker 5: the perks of fame and popularity. As an angry mob
- 18:39Speaker 5: rises against the Wicked Witch, she'll need to reunite with
- 18:43Speaker 5: Glinda to transform herself and all of Oz for good.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Oh nailed it, nailed it, great raid Bud, Thanks buddy.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Who Rob writes those for anyone that's wondering?
- 18:59Speaker 4: Really, No, I think he.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Just gets them from online because sometimes they're real weird
- 19:03Speaker 3: and I'm like, what is He's like? I just read it. Man,
- 19:06Speaker 3: I don't know to tell you.
- 19:09Speaker 1: This is Google.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes as next. Boy, I'm struggling. Uh,
- 19:15Speaker 3: critics have this coming in at just a rock solid
- 19:18Speaker 3: sixty eight percent. Guys, it's not great.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw a lot of articles that made me
- 19:27Speaker 4: very mad.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I bet yeah, I'm sure we'll get into that. Audience
- 19:32Speaker 3: members though, ninety three percent, so people, the people loved it.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I can't remember what it was for the last one.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Do you guys remember her off hand?
- 19:41Speaker 4: Yes? I just listened to it to see how I
- 19:44Speaker 4: how I did?
- 19:46Speaker 3: Nice?
- 19:46Speaker 1: So good?
- 19:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I oh gosh, thanks. I'm going to try to
- 19:52Speaker 4: have less pauses this time. But I think critics had
- 19:55Speaker 4: it at like eighty eight and oh and audiences have
- 20:00Speaker 4: like slightly higher.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Nice.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Yeah, something like that.
- 20:04Speaker 3: So pretty in line though, nice? Nice. I think you
- 20:06Speaker 3: were wicked last time. Okay, great, Uh, well let's hear
- 20:11Speaker 3: what we think. It's time for our hot take, hot take, spicy,
- 20:16Speaker 3: there's fire.
- 20:17Speaker 1: That's a hot take.
- 20:19Speaker 4: That's a hot take.
- 20:20Speaker 3: There is fire. Yeah, monkeys have it on their torches
- 20:23Speaker 3: and things. And ah, presumably she's hot when she melts
- 20:27Speaker 3: so hot, very hot. I can go first, Yes, the
- 20:34Speaker 3: first time I watched this, and Sammy, we're gonna come around,
- 20:37Speaker 3: so don't don't hate me right away. I didn't love
- 20:40Speaker 3: it the first time I saw it. I think we
- 20:41Speaker 3: talked about last time, Like I generally like first acts
- 20:45Speaker 3: of things. I like world building and fun, and you know,
- 20:49Speaker 3: like first acts of stuff. It's very bombastic and cool
- 20:54Speaker 3: and and honestly, the people I went with, I won't
- 20:58Speaker 3: call them out although they are are friends. Rob from college,
- 21:02Speaker 3: Kate Lust, you know.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I wanted to do.
- 21:09Speaker 3: These girls love all of Wicked and our super fans,
- 21:14Speaker 3: and they had some qualms with how things were happening
- 21:17Speaker 3: and things like that, which is interesting and I don't
- 21:21Speaker 3: know enough about it. I realized after thinking about it
- 21:25Speaker 3: and after watching it again, the issues that I had
- 21:28Speaker 3: with it were with like the I wanted it to
- 21:31Speaker 3: do more with certain parts. And when I really sat
- 21:34Speaker 3: down and watched it again, like wanting to understand and
- 21:38Speaker 3: just enjoy what was there rather than what wasn't there,
- 21:41Speaker 3: I had a great time. It reminded me that actwo's
- 21:43Speaker 3: are where we get that emotional depth of things, and
- 21:46Speaker 3: I think that's where this movie shines. Just the the
- 21:51Speaker 3: the love and the hardness of the beauty and difficulty
- 21:56Speaker 3: or hardness of love is just so present in this
- 22:00Speaker 3: and in all its forms. We have love of friendship,
- 22:03Speaker 3: we have love, you know, romantic love, we have love
- 22:05Speaker 3: for people we have loved for a society, you know,
- 22:08Speaker 3: and how that returns to us and all these things.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I just think it's really great. I love the themes
- 22:14Speaker 3: that show, like societal pressures and you know, how group
- 22:19Speaker 3: thing happens, and how traumas are cumulative. I think that's
- 22:23Speaker 3: all really shown off really well here. The how someone
- 22:26Speaker 3: else's hurt can hurt others later, you know, when they're mistreated,
- 22:30Speaker 3: and all these things. But yeah, I just I had
- 22:34Speaker 3: a really great time rewatching it. I let go of
- 22:37Speaker 3: a lot of the stuff I didn't love, But yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 3: I just I really liked it the second time. I
- 22:44Speaker 3: thought it was very emotional, super well done. It's fun
- 22:47Speaker 3: to think about they did all this based off of
- 22:50Speaker 3: the Wizard of Oz and like it's so different and
- 22:52Speaker 3: so weird and wild and crazy. But yeah, when I
- 22:55Speaker 3: decided to I wrote that, when I decided to watch
- 22:58Speaker 3: this again, with the idea to celebrate it for what
- 23:00Speaker 3: it is and not lament what it's not, which is
- 23:05Speaker 3: also I think that what the characters are going through
- 23:07Speaker 3: during this is like, well, this isn't what I want,
- 23:10Speaker 3: but this is a life that is beautiful and I
- 23:12Speaker 3: can honor other people. I had a really good time,
- 23:14Speaker 3: and then maybe that's a good lesson for all of us.
- 23:19Speaker 3: My hot take is some of the qualms I had,
- 23:21Speaker 3: Like I don't think it matters that her father is
- 23:24Speaker 3: the Wizard of Oz. I don't know why that, Like,
- 23:28Speaker 3: I don't think that's consequential. And I really wanted more
- 23:31Speaker 3: with the animals. That was like my hottest take or
- 23:36Speaker 3: the biggest like letdown is I was like, oh, go
- 23:39Speaker 3: into that more, like what is actually happened? Because I
- 23:41Speaker 3: didn't understand the power dynamic of why they were oppressing
- 23:45Speaker 3: different groups of people and things because it didn't seem
- 23:48Speaker 3: like and maybe part of that is it's a beautiful
- 23:51Speaker 3: imaginary world. Anyway, that's not my realist hot take is
- 23:55Speaker 3: the girls that watched this that I was with were
- 23:59Speaker 3: so hornied and they were so mad that that guy
- 24:02Speaker 3: didn't take off more clothes during the sex scene, and
- 24:04Speaker 3: that was like their major concern honestly, and he was
- 24:08Speaker 3: very handsome. I get it, but they were.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Horny, rob Okay, they were right.
- 24:14Speaker 3: That was like their biggest thing. That was the funniest
- 24:17Speaker 3: hot tic I could think of.
- 24:18Speaker 1: That's good, that's so funny.
- 24:21Speaker 4: I have feelings, I.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Know, and I can't wait to hear them.
- 24:27Speaker 4: I would love to know, Like, uh, I also agree
- 24:34Speaker 4: with you, like I would love to know more about
- 24:36Speaker 4: like why they're villainizing the animals. Yeah, but what's interesting
- 24:41Speaker 4: about that is like they go further into the animal
- 24:43Speaker 4: storyline than the stage play even does. So yeah, I
- 24:48Speaker 4: remember when I watched the stage play being kind of
- 24:51Speaker 4: like confused about the conflict because of the same reason
- 24:54Speaker 4: because in the movie they go into more depth, they
- 24:56Speaker 4: show more. But yeah, I think it's balad. Like I
- 25:00Speaker 4: still would love to have known a little bit more
- 25:04Speaker 4: like why that was the wizard's angle, like how he
- 25:07Speaker 4: was scapegoating them pun intended but yeah.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Yeah, well and just like what like I for a
- 25:15Speaker 3: second I thought that the stuff he was drinking was
- 25:18Speaker 3: like subduing his powers, and it was Michelle Yeohe's character
- 25:22Speaker 3: that was doing that intentionally so she could have powers,
- 25:25Speaker 3: you know. And then I just made up this story
- 25:27Speaker 3: that wasn't true, And then I was like, oh, I'm sad,
- 25:29Speaker 3: and it was like, well, you brought just would have
- 25:35Speaker 3: been differently bad maybe, But I really did. I really
- 25:40Speaker 3: had a great time my second watch, Like I want
- 25:42Speaker 3: to emphasize that a ton. I loved it. So yeah,
- 25:46Speaker 3: that's my heart take, Rob, what's your hot take.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I was able to go to the theater twice to
- 25:50Speaker 1: see this movie. However, the first time I only got
- 25:53Speaker 1: to see about the first half hour. Oh that it
- 25:56Speaker 1: got a little too scary for my boy. There was
- 26:00Speaker 1: a very scary scene involving Bach that was too much,
- 26:04Speaker 1: so we left. Yeah, and we we just wasted some
- 26:08Speaker 1: time around town until Lyddy and Kelse were done. The
- 26:12Speaker 1: second time, however, I got to see it on my
- 26:14Speaker 1: off day to get from San Diego to Seattle. As
- 26:17Speaker 1: soon as I got to my hotel, I left for
- 26:20Speaker 1: the theater. I realized while watching that I didn't remember
- 26:25Speaker 1: all of the plot from the one time I saw
- 26:27Speaker 1: it live in Chicago, like twenty some years ago, and
- 26:31Speaker 1: I just thought it was so clever how it all
- 26:33Speaker 1: intertwined with the Wizard of Oz, and I love how
- 26:35Speaker 1: they wrapped everything up. I was super into the plot.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Everything that I was impressed with in the first film
- 26:41Speaker 1: I was impressed with in this one. The production design,
- 26:44Speaker 1: the costumes, the music, the singing, all of it was awesome.
- 26:49Speaker 1: I have like four hot takes.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Ooh yeah.
- 26:52Speaker 1: My biggest beef with this one is that it just
- 26:55Speaker 1: has much weaker musical numbers than the first one. For good,
- 27:01Speaker 1: which is incredible perfect. I just felt like the songs
- 27:05Speaker 1: weren't as amazing as the first one. There's also a
- 27:11Speaker 1: lot of sing sing sing sing sing, but sing sing
- 27:16Speaker 1: sing sing sing, and and that's always been a pet
- 27:19Speaker 1: peeve of mine and musicals always.
- 27:21Speaker 3: And that's funny.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I mean, it happened so much in this one that
- 27:27Speaker 1: it was really taking me out of it. Sure, I
- 27:31Speaker 1: also kind of felt like I could. I felt like
- 27:35Speaker 1: in the first one Arianna was doing more of like
- 27:38Speaker 1: a Kristin Chen with impression, and I felt like in
- 27:41Speaker 1: this one I heard a lot more of her in
- 27:43Speaker 1: this one, and I think it was probably because there
- 27:46Speaker 1: were more original songs that she couldn't hear Kristin Chen
- 27:49Speaker 1: with do, which was kind of fun to hear more
- 27:52Speaker 1: of her voice. That's not really a bee for anything
- 27:56Speaker 1: that I have with it, just something I noticed. Another
- 28:00Speaker 1: hot take the romantic scene between Alphabe and Fierro did
- 28:03Speaker 1: nothing for me. And it wasn't because Fierro wasn't getting
- 28:06Speaker 1: naked enough.
- 28:09Speaker 3: But just take that itchy sweater off, sir, come on.
- 28:13Speaker 1: But he is just straight up scream singing an inch
- 28:17Speaker 1: away from her face. And that also took it out
- 28:20Speaker 1: for me, Like he is just screaming into her mouth, which.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Is that not how you get intimate? Am I doing things?
- 28:30Speaker 3: You know?
- 28:31Speaker 1: Just broadway belting into someone's mouth is not great? A
- 28:35Speaker 1: poor play. And another hot take I had that I
- 28:40Speaker 1: was really glad that the rest of the internet agreed
- 28:44Speaker 1: was that Jonathan Bailey as the scarecrow looked exactly like
- 28:47Speaker 1: Ryan Reynolds. He really did. It was wild.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I saw that meme too, and I was like, yeah,
- 28:53Speaker 3: oh my god, I didn't.
- 28:55Speaker 1: That good time. I was just like, I did not.
- 28:58Speaker 1: He looked like my god, seriously, it was really funny.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Yeah, it was weird.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and what how like they don't look all that
- 29:08Speaker 3: similar up very strange.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Very weird, I'm assuming because it erases all like actual
- 29:14Speaker 4: features of their face, that their structure of their face
- 29:16Speaker 4: might be similar.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Yeah, they must have similar eyes too, that's so funny. Yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 1: that's great. Those are my hot takes.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Hot take, pal, hot, thank you, thank you? All right, Sammy,
- 29:29Speaker 3: what's your hot take? All right?
- 29:30Speaker 4: Guys, I might be making some enemies here.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Okay, with who me?
- 29:35Speaker 1: You have your opinions, not with me.
- 29:39Speaker 3: I'll fight whoever is your.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Enemy critics for sure. Oh yeah, okay. I wrote this
- 29:45Speaker 4: down because this is very important. If you don't like
- 29:48Speaker 4: this movie, it's either not for you, which is fine,
- 29:52Speaker 4: or more for you, more intended for you than you realize,
- 29:56Speaker 4: more intended for you than for anyone else. Actually, Wicked
- 30:00Speaker 4: is not meant to be lighthearted. The first shot of
- 30:04Speaker 4: the first film establishes that, like, yes, Wicked Part one
- 30:08Speaker 4: is there, it's wrapped in spectacle, but this is never
- 30:12Speaker 4: meant to be a lighthearted story. I think it's fair
- 30:16Speaker 4: to not be the kind of person who enjoyed this movie. Like,
- 30:20Speaker 4: I'm sure when I show Adam like he will appreciate
- 30:23Speaker 4: some things, but he won't have walked away being like
- 30:25Speaker 4: I loved that movie. But this is not a movie
- 30:29Speaker 4: made purely for entertainment. The message embedded in this story
- 30:34Speaker 4: is so important, and it's dark on purpose. It's heavy
- 30:39Speaker 4: on purpose. I hear, like, I think everything both of
- 30:45Speaker 4: you said is valid, like to not love every song
- 30:48Speaker 4: completely fine, to even if you didn't love every performance.
- 30:52Speaker 4: I think that's totally fine. But for the people who
- 30:56Speaker 4: walked away being like that movie is crap, I think
- 30:59Speaker 4: it's worth the respection to figure out if you're the
- 31:03Speaker 4: type of person who likes things tied up neatly in
- 31:05Speaker 4: a bow, because that's not realistic. And as Glinda learns
- 31:10Speaker 4: in this story, it is harmful to movements to have
- 31:16Speaker 4: that perspective on life. And yes, it is that deep.
- 31:24Speaker 4: This story is like a call to action. It's not
- 31:28Speaker 4: meant to just be like fireworks dancing everything is wonderful,
- 31:33Speaker 4: like it is a call to action, like we are
- 31:37Speaker 4: watching someone learn that they have been harming. No matter
- 31:43Speaker 4: what their intentions were, they have been harmful. And it
- 31:47Speaker 4: is like a cautionary tale. And for that reason, I'm
- 31:51Speaker 4: so grateful that it was split into two films. I
- 31:54Speaker 4: think everything that was expanded upon made Glinda more human,
- 32:00Speaker 4: more relatable, which is so important because most people are Glinda,
- 32:05Speaker 4: and I think her story is so important and I'm
- 32:07Speaker 4: so glad we got to watch it unfold in a
- 32:10Speaker 4: longer retelling as far as just like my enjoyment of it.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I absolutely love this film. I have like minor nitpicks,
- 32:22Speaker 4: but like nothing that compares to the overall effect it
- 32:25Speaker 4: had on me, and every choice that deviated from the
- 32:32Speaker 4: stage play I think served it and honored it. I personally,
- 32:38Speaker 4: I love the two added songs. The first time I
- 32:41Speaker 4: watched it, I didn't have a very emotional response to either,
- 32:45Speaker 4: I think because I was just so overwhelmed, like to
- 32:47Speaker 4: finally be seeing the conclusion of this story. But last
- 32:51Speaker 4: night I had a very emotional response to both, and
- 32:54Speaker 4: I think it is because, like Bukes, just like you said,
- 32:57Speaker 4: like okay, let me just like yeah, throw out anything
- 33:01Speaker 4: else and just like watch what's happening, and they were.
- 33:06Speaker 4: They expanded on character and motivation for both characters, and
- 33:13Speaker 4: I loved it. I think both of these films together
- 33:17Speaker 4: as one, are one of my favorite film experiences of
- 33:21Speaker 4: my life, and that is nice.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I love so much. Oh yeah, Oh, I was gonna
- 33:33Speaker 1: I was also gonna ask just what were the two
- 33:36Speaker 1: added songs?
- 33:37Speaker 3: Yep, that's exactly what I was gonna say.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I was going to look it up, and then I.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Didn't because I'm so Cynthia singing No Place Like Home.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Which I love that which she.
- 33:49Speaker 4: She she wrote that with Steven Schwartz, which I thought
- 33:51Speaker 4: was so cool.
- 33:52Speaker 3: That makes total sense.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Yeah, which again another like Alphaba should have always been
- 33:59Speaker 4: a black woman, like she understands this role so much.
- 34:03Speaker 4: That song the first time, like I said that it
- 34:06Speaker 4: was too early in the film for like a new
- 34:08Speaker 4: something added to the story for me, and I was
- 34:10Speaker 4: like not processing it. The second time I watched it,
- 34:13Speaker 4: I was like, this is it doesn't have to be
- 34:17Speaker 4: at anyone's favorite song, but the context of like what
- 34:19Speaker 4: she's singing I thought was beautiful and so relevant.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it was a really pretty melody too.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Yes, and Girl in the Bubble, the one that already sings.
- 34:31Speaker 3: In like that was my other guest nice wait okay for.
- 34:34Speaker 4: That song, I wrote down, like the cinematography in that
- 34:37Speaker 4: song where they're like going through the mirrors crazy?
- 34:42Speaker 3: Yeah? Was the childhood stuff? Was that ad it? Or
- 34:46Speaker 3: is that in the Okay? I thought that was really neat.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I liked that we're both of them, the Glinda and
- 34:52Speaker 3: the because Alphabet has the little kid stuff too. I
- 34:55Speaker 3: wonder if that mostly because I was like, how would
- 34:58Speaker 3: they do that on stage? I guess they could just act.
- 35:00Speaker 4: I know, I know, yeah, I know. They flashed back
- 35:04Speaker 4: to like her birth obviously to show that she was
- 35:07Speaker 4: born green, But I don't. I don't think we see
- 35:13Speaker 4: her as a kid with Messa as a kid. I
- 35:15Speaker 4: think that was added.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Okay, that's cool. I really liked that. I thought that
- 35:18Speaker 3: was me too. It really like added that depth that was.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Neat, like Glinda's ark in this is so massive. And
- 35:30Speaker 4: I think seeing her as a kid and seeing like
- 35:33Speaker 4: how the priorities her parents like instilled in her that
- 35:38Speaker 4: like made her who she is, and like how she's
- 35:41Speaker 4: betraying herself all the time because of the lessons she
- 35:45Speaker 4: learned from them until she finally stops betraying them. Oh,
- 35:49Speaker 4: I love it well.
- 35:50Speaker 3: And she always wanted to be more and but also
- 35:55Speaker 3: was like told not to, you know, I don't, you know,
- 35:57Speaker 3: not even from like a you don't deserve that, just
- 36:00Speaker 3: like a this is all you need, like you're good
- 36:03Speaker 3: and you're good. I really liked that that yearning being
- 36:06Speaker 3: there really helps with the motivation of how everything goes.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Yes, And that's what I mean by like she was
- 36:14Speaker 4: betraying herself her whole life, because what she really wanted
- 36:18Speaker 4: was to be magical. It was to be something more,
- 36:20Speaker 4: but she was told her whole life will just be loved.
- 36:22Speaker 4: You're loved, and so she's like betraying herself because of
- 36:25Speaker 4: like the lesson she's been taught until she finally stops. Yeah,
- 36:29Speaker 4: betraying herself.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Also, I'm just going to step on my soapbox for
- 36:33Speaker 3: just a seconds as it goes to the the critics reviews.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Like you said, if you have certain feelings, think about that.
- 36:43Speaker 3: If every movie that is female centered and also maybe
- 36:47Speaker 3: has a person of color in it, you think is
- 36:49Speaker 3: trying to point you in a direction and you know,
- 36:53Speaker 3: change how you think about things, Maybe there's a reason
- 36:55Speaker 3: for that. I'm just going to throw that out there
- 36:56Speaker 3: because i think it's often these movies, these get brigaded,
- 37:01Speaker 3: just like we don't want to watch a woman's film,
- 37:03Speaker 3: you know, and all that stuff. So I'm assuming that's
- 37:05Speaker 3: part of why the score is so low and whatever.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Those scores don't actually matter, but it's just a bummer
- 37:12Speaker 3: that people I'm sure wrote this off immediately.
- 37:15Speaker 4: Well, I mean, there were a lot of criticisms about
- 37:18Speaker 4: it being about the content, and it's like, yeah, okay,
- 37:21Speaker 4: well is this your did you do any research. Did
- 37:24Speaker 4: you read like this is always what the story was like,
- 37:27Speaker 4: this is what the book that Gregory Maguire wrote is,
- 37:30Speaker 4: this is what the play is like, Why are you surprised?
- 37:35Speaker 4: It's very confusing to me. If people have that's what
- 37:39Speaker 4: I'm saying, Like, if people have valid criticisms like oh
- 37:43Speaker 4: I don't like the way this person saying this, that's fine.
- 37:46Speaker 4: I don't have a problem with that, Like everyone has preferences,
- 37:49Speaker 4: But like the kind of criticisms I was seeing was like, yeah,
- 37:53Speaker 4: this is what this is, like, I don't I don't
- 37:55Speaker 4: know the.
- 37:56Speaker 3: One caveat will add to that. I don't think Cynthia
- 37:58Speaker 3: can sing anything wrong, So I'm just gonna you might
- 38:01Speaker 3: just be wrong about that if you ever, you know, like,
- 38:05Speaker 3: I don't know what to tell you. Yeah, yeah, well
- 38:09Speaker 3: hot takes all around. Gang. Should we go in and
- 38:13Speaker 3: name our favorite acting performance?
- 38:14Speaker 1: Shall we name the two? The dude?
- 38:18Speaker 6: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
- 38:20Speaker 6: know that, or his dude or duder or you know,
- 38:26Speaker 6: el dudo reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing, Sammy,
- 38:30Speaker 6: who's your dude?
- 38:31Speaker 4: I wrote this down before I went and saw it
- 38:34Speaker 4: last night. Ariana Grande is my dude.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Think that's right.
- 38:38Speaker 4: As far as I'm concerned. This is her movie. And
- 38:42Speaker 4: I mentioned this in the part one podcast, but Wicked
- 38:50Speaker 4: Part one is is alph of us are to becoming
- 38:54Speaker 4: wicked quote unquote, and part two is Glinda's arc to
- 39:01Speaker 4: actually becoming good. So her medias stuff is in this one.
- 39:05Speaker 4: So I just I was blown away by her courage,
- 39:11Speaker 4: like as an actor to like really go there and
- 39:15Speaker 4: blown away that like knowing that they filmed this at
- 39:17Speaker 4: the same time. Yeah, crazy wild, Yeah, I thought she
- 39:25Speaker 4: was incredible nice.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Mine was a coin flip.
- 39:29Speaker 4: I was.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I would have been fine with either Ariana Grande or
- 39:34Speaker 1: Cynthia Rivo. I'll go with our Ariana Grande to make
- 39:37Speaker 1: it a clean sweep for sure. One thing that I
- 39:42Speaker 1: guess it didn't I felt like there should have been
- 39:45Speaker 1: more of a reaction to her being like, hey, go
- 39:50Speaker 1: after her sister, and then her sister ends up dying
- 39:54Speaker 1: and then the only thing that we have is just
- 39:56Speaker 1: like a kind of a fun little like between them,
- 40:01Speaker 1: like and it's funny even And I was like, no,
- 40:05Speaker 1: like she's kind of the reason why your sister's dead,
- 40:09Speaker 1: and there wasn't as big of a response as I
- 40:13Speaker 1: wanted there.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I mean, I do, because either
- 40:18Speaker 3: like they need to go harder at Michelle yeo then
- 40:21Speaker 3: for you know, taking that too far or yeah, I
- 40:26Speaker 3: hear you, I hear you.
- 40:27Speaker 1: That was one little kin of qualm. Yeah, that certainly
- 40:30Speaker 1: wasn't because of the acting wasn't good enough.
- 40:33Speaker 3: But that's also like a plot thing. But yeah, that's
- 40:36Speaker 3: also a little bit hard, right, it's one of the
- 40:38Speaker 3: when working within the confines of art that already exists,
- 40:41Speaker 3: Like she had to die and get crushed by that house,
- 40:44Speaker 3: so you know what I mean, Like that is a
- 40:47Speaker 3: pillar point of this story kind of so that was
- 40:51Speaker 3: probably hard for them to work around, maybe too or whatever.
- 40:54Speaker 4: I also saw that, but this is not like you right,
- 41:00Speaker 4: Like there should have been like a like a more
- 41:03Speaker 4: consideration about that. But I saw that as like her
- 41:08Speaker 4: her still doing the Glinda thing and being like, Nope,
- 41:11Speaker 4: that is not the reason for this, because yeah, when
- 41:14Speaker 4: she confronts Morble later, she's like, I've had this feeling,
- 41:17Speaker 4: and then she brings up the cyclone and like she
- 41:19Speaker 4: confronts her about it, right, right, and maybe that's her
- 41:23Speaker 4: finally admitting what she already knew deep down to be true,
- 41:25Speaker 4: but like was like, no, that can't that. I can't
- 41:28Speaker 4: have participated in that, like totally.
- 41:31Speaker 3: But kind of that drama a little bit. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:34Speaker 3: totally I buy that.
- 41:36Speaker 1: But she was wonderful in this too, and yeah is great.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Yeah that's a clean sweet Like we said, the emotional
- 41:47Speaker 3: depth that Ariana Grande goes through in this is incredible.
- 41:51Speaker 3: And Cynthia too, Obviously she's perfect and those two together
- 41:55Speaker 3: are wonderful. But I was really impressed. And the honestly,
- 42:00Speaker 3: Sammy you saying that before the like, that's what these
- 42:04Speaker 3: two movies are. One is this and one is this?
- 42:06Speaker 3: Where that was really helpful for me on the rewatch
- 42:09Speaker 3: to just be like, oh, yeah, I see, okay, I
- 42:11Speaker 3: get you know, not having seen the show a buch
- 42:14Speaker 3: or you know, knowing the source material as well or whatever.
- 42:19Speaker 3: I think that's super helpful to think about. And also, yeah,
- 42:23Speaker 3: just really great. I just thought I thought she's saying wonderfully,
- 42:27Speaker 3: she's still funny in this end points, which is hard
- 42:31Speaker 3: to do when it's so serious for so much of it,
- 42:35Speaker 3: but we still have those moments and yeah, just just
- 42:39Speaker 3: ex or buns off, she's so good. I love it.
- 42:41Speaker 3: So I'm super happy with that.
- 42:44Speaker 4: Clean I saw I'm reminded of something you said, Robin,
- 42:49Speaker 4: your hot take. Maybe, but I listened to her talk
- 42:55Speaker 4: about her vocal choices oh as Glinda, and when specifically
- 43:02Speaker 4: in Thank Goodness, you can really hear the dichotomy of
- 43:07Speaker 4: that when she's being disingenuous. Obviously we've talked about how
- 43:12Speaker 4: usually higher notes when she's singing, but that's written in
- 43:16Speaker 4: the book. Her choice as Glinda was to kind of
- 43:21Speaker 4: like cut it off a little bit and be more
- 43:23Speaker 4: like clipped and bright, which is probably why she sounds
- 43:27Speaker 4: more like Christ and channel with sure in the first movie,
- 43:32Speaker 4: because it's a lot more disingenuous, like performative content. But
- 43:41Speaker 4: then when she is singing things that are like truer
- 43:45Speaker 4: to her, like in Thank Goodness, when she slows down
- 43:47Speaker 4: and says that's why I couldn't be happier at that part,
- 43:50Speaker 4: it's more like dropped in and a little bit more
- 43:52Speaker 4: breath in the voice. But I heard her talk about that,
- 43:57Speaker 4: and I was like, well, that's why she sounds so
- 44:00Speaker 4: friend in this film, because so much of it is
- 44:01Speaker 4: like reckoning and being honest with herself, and yeah, that
- 44:05Speaker 4: was interesting.
- 44:06Speaker 3: I couldn't help think, like the colloquial term right of
- 44:10Speaker 3: like say it with your full chest, you know, like
- 44:13Speaker 3: with your you know, full throated, all those things. Like
- 44:16Speaker 3: I was like, well, that does seem like what she's
- 44:18Speaker 3: doing as well, you know, as she gains you know,
- 44:21Speaker 3: figuratively in the second act, she gains her voice and
- 44:24Speaker 3: chooses what she wants to be, she's also gaining her
- 44:27Speaker 3: voice right in your singing stuff. I think that's really cool,
- 44:31Speaker 3: which is again, I can't sing stuff one way well,
- 44:35Speaker 3: let alone a number of voice. That's crazy good for her.
- 44:41Speaker 3: I love that. What do you think? Should we go
- 44:42Speaker 3: in and talk about some of these other folks? Shall
- 44:45Speaker 3: we name the Tucci.
- 44:48Speaker 1: The Tucci on?
- 44:51Speaker 3: This one's weird because there's not a lot of new
- 44:52Speaker 3: characters from the first you know what I mean?
- 44:55Speaker 4: So, yeah, are there any I don't know if.
- 44:58Speaker 3: There are any, and I only just about that, But
- 45:00Speaker 3: sammy hoo do you have for your titch? Oh?
- 45:03Speaker 4: I just realized there is one new Ton. There's the
- 45:07Speaker 4: way you don't hear from the adult lion in the
- 45:08Speaker 4: first one.
- 45:09Speaker 3: True that good call.
- 45:11Speaker 4: So there is a new one. But just side note.
- 45:14Speaker 4: I wonder why they had. I wonder if they're thinking
- 45:17Speaker 4: about expanding that story, because why else would you have
- 45:19Speaker 4: Coleman Domingo say like seven lines for real?
- 45:23Speaker 3: For real. I didn't even realize it was him, honestly
- 45:26Speaker 3: until the first.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Time was with me. Neither, but I was struggling between
- 45:34Speaker 4: two just because I think both really stepped up to
- 45:37Speaker 4: the plate in this movie. But I think I have
- 45:39Speaker 4: to give it to Ethan's later because he was like chilling.
- 45:43Speaker 3: At and he does his like rousing speech. I was like, Oh,
- 45:47Speaker 3: you're scary. That's really good.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Yeah, Like his look in the mirror after he gets
- 45:53Speaker 4: turned into the tin man. It's like, I have goosebumps now.
- 45:57Speaker 4: It's really powerful, especially because his Act one he's like a.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Doufe you know, he's so sweet.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he's like the original insult.
- 46:09Speaker 3: I did wonder like did they also have Nessa. I
- 46:13Speaker 3: get why Nessa lies about it was the witch who
- 46:16Speaker 3: did this to you, not me whatever, Like I understand that,
- 46:20Speaker 3: But did they also lean into that because that's like
- 46:22Speaker 3: she'll be dead soon that that's easier if we know
- 46:25Speaker 3: she sucks. You know.
- 46:26Speaker 4: I was thinking about this because I had I'm like
- 46:31Speaker 4: everyone on the internet is like talking so much about
- 46:36Speaker 4: the Lion and the tin Man because it's like grow up,
- 46:40Speaker 4: like she was helping both of you. But but I
- 46:45Speaker 4: think specifically for Bach at this point, he it's like
- 46:52Speaker 4: the Wizard says in the first movie, like people need
- 46:54Speaker 4: an enemy. Yeah, and for s Alpae, Alpaba says like,
- 46:58Speaker 4: I'll be wicked so you can be good, like they need.
- 47:02Speaker 4: He needs an enemy at this point because he feels
- 47:04Speaker 4: so wronged. He knows Neessa's gone and he needs revenge.
- 47:12Speaker 4: So who else but to take it out on but
- 47:14Speaker 4: Alphabet this point. Yeah, but yeah, it's like it's so frustrating.
- 47:18Speaker 4: It's like everybody just have a conversation and realize that
- 47:21Speaker 4: she's helping you.
- 47:24Speaker 3: Oh can I say I forgot one hot take that
- 47:26Speaker 3: I had. I think they could superimpose uh from the
- 47:33Speaker 3: Dark Knight, the speech about because we have to chase him.
- 47:37Speaker 3: They could just superimpose that over Alphaba going into the desert,
- 47:40Speaker 3: and it works just the same. It's the exact same sentiment,
- 47:46Speaker 3: She's our dark Knight.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry, here we need That's great, And yeah, he
- 47:54Speaker 1: had he just had such a sad arc It was
- 47:58Speaker 1: felt so bad, such a bummer angry, and that was also.
- 48:01Speaker 3: What happens to him after they leave? Is he just
- 48:04Speaker 3: still hanging out as a tinman as well?
- 48:08Speaker 4: At the end of The Wizard of Oz, they all
- 48:11Speaker 4: get what they're looking for. Yeah, they realized it was
- 48:16Speaker 4: in them all along. It's like a poetic like means
- 48:19Speaker 4: nothing kind of sentiment. So that's a good question. I
- 48:24Speaker 4: wonder if they are contemplating expanding on those storylines.
- 48:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it could be for sure.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Yeah, because I don't know, because they tied up in
- 48:34Speaker 4: anice bow for the Wizard of Oz and then obviously
- 48:36Speaker 4: she wakes up and it's like was that all a dream?
- 48:38Speaker 4: So you don't really think about it in The Wizard
- 48:40Speaker 4: of Oz. But yeah, that's a good question.
- 48:43Speaker 1: No, he's just immortal as a tin man and.
- 48:45Speaker 3: He iron giant. Don't worry about.
- 48:49Speaker 1: It, it's not important.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Uh.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I think my two she was going to go to
- 48:55Speaker 1: Jonathan Bailey as Fierro in this. Yeah, Yeah, greatly loved
- 49:02Speaker 1: I really loved his character arc. He just became such
- 49:05Speaker 1: a good dude fun.
- 49:08Speaker 4: That's who I was choosing between. By the way, they
- 49:12Speaker 4: were so great.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you just he was wonderful. I love his voice,
- 49:16Speaker 1: and yeah, he was acting great and looks a lot
- 49:20Speaker 1: like Ryan Reynolds turns out, Yeah.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Only when he's scarecrowified apparently, right right.
- 49:28Speaker 4: I have to mention something about his performance that I
- 49:30Speaker 4: didn't pick up on the first watch when and maybe
- 49:36Speaker 4: they linger on his face for a while, so maybe
- 49:39Speaker 4: this maybe more people did pick up on it. But
- 49:41Speaker 4: when he's in the forest looking for alphabet in the
- 49:44Speaker 4: very beginning, Yeah, and there's this like up to interpretation
- 49:48Speaker 4: like did he see her and leads everybody away or
- 49:51Speaker 4: did he not see her? After having watched it again
- 49:54Speaker 4: and like seeing his face on, he saw her and
- 49:59Speaker 4: he says, so, let's find this wicked witch or something. Yeah,
- 50:04Speaker 4: says this wicked witch and then it holds on his
- 50:07Speaker 4: face for a few seconds and he's like almost trembling,
- 50:11Speaker 4: And I think it's because he's like I just had
- 50:14Speaker 4: to say, like she just heard me say that, and
- 50:16Speaker 4: she believes that I think this way about her, and
- 50:19Speaker 4: it's it's like one of those like no dialogue acting
- 50:24Speaker 4: moments that is like beautiful from him.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Nice.
- 50:28Speaker 3: Yeah, because I think I wrote down in the trivia
- 50:31Speaker 3: in the first one, oh yeah, here in the first one,
- 50:35Speaker 3: when they first meet and he almost trambles over her,
- 50:37Speaker 3: him and his horse friend. He says that, oh, you
- 50:41Speaker 3: really blended in with the foliage, and so that was
- 50:44Speaker 3: kind of an homage that which I did. I didn't
- 50:46Speaker 3: remember or pick up on, but I think that's really great.
- 50:49Speaker 1: And then she really did blend in with THEO.
- 50:51Speaker 3: She didn't chat.
- 50:54Speaker 1: One person that wasn't in the previous movie that was
- 50:57Speaker 1: in this movie. No, that was incredible. Were you going
- 51:00Speaker 1: to say it?
- 51:01Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe I was gonna say, is it
- 51:03Speaker 3: the little girl Glinda? Yes, yeah, that's what And I
- 51:07Speaker 3: was like, oh, I wrote her down and I don't
- 51:09Speaker 3: even I forgot that she's new to Scarlet Spears. Is
- 51:12Speaker 3: her name as young Glinda and she's so funny. I
- 51:16Speaker 3: really loved that little scene. I thought was so she
- 51:18Speaker 3: is from eight year old?
- 51:21Speaker 1: She was great, impressive, agreed, And I actually had to
- 51:25Speaker 1: look up to see if she's like related to this
- 51:28Speaker 1: like Britney Spears family, because I could have totally seen that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 51:32Speaker 1: but she's not.
- 51:33Speaker 3: She kind of looks like Aerial Winter too. When she
- 51:36Speaker 3: was a little kid, Why did we just see her?
- 51:38Speaker 3: And when she was a little kid.
- 51:39Speaker 1: His kiss bang bang, that's right, that's right.
- 51:42Speaker 3: It's like something I wouldn't expect, you know. But yeah,
- 51:46Speaker 3: I thought she was awesome. She's actually quite quick for
- 51:48Speaker 3: my teacher. Yeah, she was great and that scene was
- 51:52Speaker 3: so fun and meaningful and you know, yes, but yeah
- 51:58Speaker 3: I loved that. Otherwise, I feel like it's the same
- 52:01Speaker 3: the same folks like Jeff Gildblooms as Oz is great
- 52:05Speaker 3: in this. Yeah you know, he gets a little more
- 52:08Speaker 3: like depth again too, and that's kind of fun.
- 52:12Speaker 4: Oh my take, which is in reference to something you
- 52:17Speaker 4: said views about why why does it matter that she's
- 52:21Speaker 4: his daughter?
- 52:21Speaker 3: Oh? Yes? Please?
- 52:23Speaker 4: Uh? In for me, I I think it's not really.
- 52:28Speaker 4: It doesn't really matter to her at all.
- 52:30Speaker 3: For sure, get that, and it shouldn't maybe, and maybe
- 52:34Speaker 3: that's the answer, it shouldn't.
- 52:35Speaker 4: But well I think I think it's interesting, just like
- 52:39Speaker 4: as a lure in a lore standpoint, because of like,
- 52:43Speaker 4: oh and this is where do you remember in the
- 52:45Speaker 4: last podcast, I was started saying something and I said, yeah,
- 52:48Speaker 4: I'm gonna stop. I'm gonna stop talking right here. It
- 52:50Speaker 4: was about she's from him, and I was talking about
- 52:56Speaker 4: why I loved the way he plays the wizard. She
- 53:00Speaker 4: is half of his DNA, and so there's this like
- 53:06Speaker 4: biological pull to this life, to this like whimsy, and
- 53:11Speaker 4: I think that's part of what attracts her to Glinda,
- 53:13Speaker 4: like she sees in Glinda this part of her that
- 53:16Speaker 4: she won't allow herself to be. So I think it's
- 53:19Speaker 4: fun that the Wizard has played so like so full
- 53:24Speaker 4: of whimsy, because it's part of Alphabet as well, even
- 53:27Speaker 4: though she like suppresses that. But also I think it's interesting,
- 53:40Speaker 4: like it's important for the Wizard's arc because the when
- 53:44Speaker 4: he learns what he just did to his own daughter,
- 53:47Speaker 4: he spends the entire story talking about how he wants family,
- 53:50Speaker 4: he wants to treat all of oz like his sons
- 53:53Speaker 4: and daughters, and here he has a daughter and he
- 53:55Speaker 4: just killed her. Essentially, I think that's interest. Yeah, I
- 54:01Speaker 4: like that, but yeah, I don't think it matters so
- 54:05Speaker 4: really at all.
- 54:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and maybe, like we said, maybe that's the point
- 54:11Speaker 3: interesting though. Yeah, any other runners up, will you feel
- 54:16Speaker 3: like we have to say for the Teuch, I don't
- 54:20Speaker 3: really have anyone else, I think, So let's move ahead.
- 54:23Speaker 3: Let's pick our favorite scene. Shall we pick the dingus
- 54:27Speaker 3: dingus So.
- 54:28Speaker 5: Das is quite simple, really Dingus Dingus.
- 54:31Speaker 3: I could talk about my dingas all night long.
- 54:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna kiss you dings.
- 54:34Speaker 3: All right, Sammy, this might be difficult, but what are
- 54:36Speaker 3: you what's your favorite scene?
- 54:38Speaker 4: This is Actually this was actually pretty hard for me
- 54:42Speaker 4: because it's not like there's no like, wow, what a
- 54:45Speaker 4: good scene for me from a lifelong lover of all
- 54:54Speaker 4: of this lore. Yeah, I and what you said, Rob
- 54:59Speaker 4: is making me think about it, like in maybe a
- 55:00Speaker 4: little bit of a different light. But I do love
- 55:04Speaker 4: getting to see munchkin Land after the house has fallen
- 55:08Speaker 4: and getting some like knowing Dorothy like they just sang
- 55:12Speaker 4: we're off to see the Wizard like that just happened,
- 55:16Speaker 4: and now we're getting this like more like emotional moment
- 55:20Speaker 4: between the two women. So and I thought the fight
- 55:24Speaker 4: was funny and it shows that even even when they're
- 55:27Speaker 4: at odds, they love each other so much and they'll
- 55:29Speaker 4: look so I liked watching that, like from a lower standpoint.
- 55:35Speaker 4: But my favorite song in this whole show is no
- 55:41Speaker 4: Good Deed Ugh so good Oh.
- 55:45Speaker 1: A bad ass scene for sure.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that's always been my favorite song of the show, honestly.
- 55:53Speaker 4: And uh for the for the listeners, if you remember,
- 55:57Speaker 4: I talked about a PowerPoint I was making for a
- 55:59Speaker 4: Husban been Buges has since seen.
- 56:03Speaker 3: It, so it was great. It helped a lot.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Actually crazy.
- 56:09Speaker 4: In the PowerPoint I include, I was like, I need
- 56:12Speaker 4: to highlight some of the songs that I've loved for
- 56:16Speaker 4: twenty years because of how untouchable they were to me already,
- 56:20Speaker 4: and I have I have a little I'm like when
- 56:23Speaker 4: Adam and I when I present this to him, I'm
- 56:25Speaker 4: gonna press play on the song and like let him
- 56:28Speaker 4: listen to it, just so he knows what it has
- 56:32Speaker 4: always sounded like to me. And then she blows it
- 56:35Speaker 4: out of the water. Yeah, oh my god, so good.
- 56:39Speaker 4: Like this this I said this in the first one,
- 56:42Speaker 4: but this is wicked. This is alphabet to me. She
- 56:46Speaker 4: is unbelievable. She's like from another planet. So I love
- 56:52Speaker 4: that scene. I love oh and the like directorial choices
- 56:57Speaker 4: that you simply can't do on stage, had the flashbacks
- 57:01Speaker 4: and her like realizing, oh my god, I was thinking
- 57:04Speaker 4: I was doing good? Was I really just And you're
- 57:07Speaker 4: seeing Nessa being lifted up like all of her choices
- 57:11Speaker 4: that are like viewing them in another light. It's like,
- 57:14Speaker 4: oh my god, have I just been causing harm freaking havoc.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Oh.
- 57:18Speaker 4: I just thought it was so well done. So, yeah,
- 57:23Speaker 4: this was a hard one for scenes for me, but
- 57:25Speaker 4: I that's what I have.
- 57:27Speaker 3: I love that.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that was right up there for me too. Just
- 57:31Speaker 1: that was such a powerful scene. She's sang her ass off.
- 57:36Speaker 1: I kind of went in because for good this song
- 57:41Speaker 1: is just kind of what that and like defying gravity
- 57:44Speaker 1: or what I think of with this musical totally. So
- 57:46Speaker 1: I kind of went in having that be my my dingus. Yeah,
- 57:53Speaker 1: and I still think that that works because man, that
- 57:57Speaker 1: just it's just the emotional crux of the whole film. Yeah.
- 58:04Speaker 1: They both sang it so beautifully, and I guess I
- 58:08Speaker 1: saw this in the trivia, but they added the I
- 58:10Speaker 1: love you, I love you too, and that just was.
- 58:12Speaker 3: Like and it was ad lipped right, which is yeah, Jesus.
- 58:17Speaker 4: So that whole the door scene when they go into
- 58:25Speaker 4: the closet, all of that. Yeah, they were in a
- 58:27Speaker 4: rehearsal and John they finished singing and John was just
- 58:33Speaker 4: like watching them and didn't call cut and he was
- 58:36Speaker 4: just like I just kind of want to Like it
- 58:38Speaker 4: was like a beautiful like, Yeah, this rehearsal was beautiful
- 58:41Speaker 4: and he was just kind of like I just kind
- 58:42Speaker 4: of want to see what they do and the whole
- 58:47Speaker 4: like bringing her. I mean I think they probably always
- 58:50Speaker 4: were meaning to go to the closet, but the dialogue
- 58:54Speaker 4: that happens there was just born from the two of them,
- 58:58Speaker 4: like all right, he call cut, let's keep going, which
- 59:02Speaker 4: is that's wild crazy to me. And and the I
- 59:06Speaker 4: Love You added in was like controversial and they had
- 59:09Speaker 4: to like have a lot of conversations about it because
- 59:11Speaker 4: I Love You is not supposed to be in the
- 59:13Speaker 4: Aussian like world, like that's not something they would say.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Sure, but.
- 59:22Speaker 4: The girls were like, I think it it like strips
- 59:25Speaker 4: away all of the Aussie and stuff and it's just
- 59:27Speaker 4: like our hearts speaking to each other. So but yeah,
- 59:31Speaker 4: I blown away that that was like improved essentially. And
- 59:36Speaker 4: then that door shot so cool.
- 59:39Speaker 3: That shot is just so neat.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I'm completely happy with that being the scene.
- 59:48Speaker 4: That scene is so good.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I picked that one too. Especially. I want
- 59:57Speaker 3: to just like, you know, sneak in a little bit
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: before that because the end of that fight that they
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: have where like Glinda realizes that Fiara loves you know, Alphaba,
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: and she like lets you know, all these things happen right, like,
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: it's just so great. And I my one complaint about
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: the No Goad Deed is I kind of wish they
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: wouldn't have gone. I feel like they were trying to
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: make it really big and vast, with like all the
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: flying monkeys and all that stuff, and it did look cool,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: but it felt a little like cgi goopy to me,
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: and I was kind of like, just let her, just
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: let us be with this tremendous singer and actor. Sure,
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: but even said, it's still the best scene. I love
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: that scene so much. But like that like Glinda feeling
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: heartbreak I think for the first time in her life,
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: but also using that to like let her friend go
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: and also let this guy go, you know that she
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: like kind of just they were engaged, but neither one
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: of them, it felt like had a ton of like
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: agency within that, you know what I mean, Like they
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: I think those two characters are very similar. Actually, they're
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: both just playing their parts that they're assigned in a
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: lot of ways. And yeah, I just I love that scene.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: But adding that little like you know, that little bit
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: of an intro to that to that No Good Deed
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: song is just nuts. It was a mess.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Speaking on that, there's a line that I think is
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: very intentional for the reason you just said it's an
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: Alpha B delivered line, but it's I'm talking about how
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: Glinda and Fierro are one and the same. Yeah, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: that's their line in Dancing through Life. You're perfect, You're perfect,
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: so we're perfect together. That's why they're together. I'm perfect
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: and you're perfect, and we've been trying to find someone perfect.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: That's why they're together. And then, uh, Glinda, I mean
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: Ariana Grande says this all the time, that Glinda's in
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: the closet like she loves Alphaba.
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Alphaba gives her all these opportunities side with me, join me,
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: be with me, and she doesn't. She never chooses that.
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: And then she gets to watch Fierro make a different
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: choice that she realizes like, I should have made that choice.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: I could have made that choice, and I did it.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: And then so the line I'm talking about, Uh, on
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: the Elebrick Road a munchkin Land, when they're fighting, Alphaba says,
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: I know it might be hard for you to understand
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: that someone like him could choose someone like me. I
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: think the subtext of that is like you could have
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: chose you or someone like him, and you didn't choose me,
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: So that must be hard for you to understand totally.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Oh that's a great I love that interpretation of that line.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: Yeah, because that's the whole undercurrent. Like, yeah, they're fighting
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: over a guy, but they're fighting because Glinda is not
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: she's not making the choices that she wants deep down,
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: and Alphaba is like, okay, well, if you won't choose
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: me like someone else will.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: I just love it so much. I can talk about
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: every aspect of this. I could go on and on
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: and on.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: I love it well. And it speaks to like what
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: we've talked about before, Like, right, you know, a sort
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: of universal truth that happens in the Marvel universe is
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: when Thora sees his mom again and she's like, everyone
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: fails at what they're supposed to be. It's important that
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: you are what who you are, right, Like, you fail
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: at what you're told to be, and part of this
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: next step is becoming the truth of yourself, right, And
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: I think that applies to all of them here, right, Like, yes,
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: you know, Alphaba has the power to change this world,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: but they don't want her, and it's okay for her
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: to go and choose herself, you know, like and you
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: know he Fierro chooses her, and like Glinda allows that
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: to happen and then also chooses to be to try
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: and change and to not just go with the easy
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: answer of like yeah, she's wicked and I'm good and
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: we're cool, you know, like she expands the you know,
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: the overall story, which I think is great.
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: Yeah. I think the one question I have for I
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: guess all creators involved in a story is like, does
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: Glinda really think that water kills Alpaba? Like really?
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: Because I mean and that and that's not like that's
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: in the stage play. That's like she after for good.
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: Alphaba dies in Glinda's eyes, but she dies by a
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: bucket of water, Like your best friend really thinks that
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: water will kill you? Like that is the hardest part
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: for me to like understand.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Also, Alphaba's never showered. That's taking a half.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: What are we doing to your roommate? You never saw
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: her interact with water?
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: Do you magically not smell what's happening here?
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Yeah? Interesting? That should have been my hot take, damn it.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: I'd love to know the explanation of that one.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Maybe she also is, like
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: alphabet is strong enough. If she disappeared, it was because
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: that's what she wanted, so let's just move on, you know,
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: And maybe it was that. I also think that like
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: the little whisper at the end, that final the final
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: frame of them that's in the movie, that I guess
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: is a reference to the poster or something, which I
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: think is cool. I think that's a trivial later, but
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: I thought that was neat because I was kind of
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: I also thought, are they saying Glenna is in on
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: it a little bit? Like whether whether she knows for
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: sure what happened? Is it like this is our secret,
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: I know you're still out there, or I choose to
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: believe you're still out there, or whatever the case may be.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: Thought that, Yeah, I guess. I guess that's up for interpretation, really,
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: because it's not explained. The gasp I gasped when that
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: shot came on screen, because you know, it's for people
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: who don't know. The playbill of the stage play is
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: a cartoonish version of Elfie with her hat covering her
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: eye but like a little smirk on her face and
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: Glinda whispering into her ear in all white, and it's iconic,
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: like it's the only it's the only image because you
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: don't really get images from the stage show really sure,
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: so it's the only image like theater goers had of
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: this musical. And so the second they showed that, I
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: was like, I like freaked out and I knew exactly
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: what they were doing. But it's a flashback to this.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: Uh the scene. The scene is like, as I understand,
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: just like showing the interim of these five people in
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: between the two movies, like just they had a friendship.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: It lasted for longer than you saw, and I don't
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: think it even I wonder what Ari like actually did
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: whisper to her, But I to me, it's like just
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: their friendship and the stuff that we never get to
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: see because it's about their internal relationship. So yeah, but
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: I do wonder that last like the finale where they're
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: singing together and Glinda is singing and there's all green
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: behind her and Alphaba is singing and there's a pink
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: sunset behind her and they're split screened. I like that
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: it's kind of up for interpretation that like, are they
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: like is going to thinking she's out there, she's live.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: Or are they just showing how they been changed by
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: each other? I don't know, but I like that there's
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: debate about it.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Yeah for sure. M h I love that. Any other scenes,
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: I feel like we have consensus on that, So that's
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: pretty awesome.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: I'm happy with that ending.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: My gosh, yeah, all right, should we go on and
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: talk some quotes? Time to show me the money, Show me.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: The money, show me.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: All right, Sammy, we got for quotes? I have a lot, Oh,
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: Okay. The first one is in the celebration in the beginning,
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: when Pharaoh and Glinda go behind you know where no
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: one can see them, and he's like kind of furious
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: about the way that they're talking about her, and he says,
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: you can't resist this, and she said, well maybe I can't.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: Does that so wrong? I mean, who could? And he says,
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: you know who could?
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Oh?
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: I don't remember the full quote because like I'm just
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: feverously writing this down in the movie theater, but it's
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: it's when Yeah, it's when the wizard. It's in the
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: wonderful scene when he says I could tell him I've
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: been lying to him till I forgive me blue in
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: the face. And I don't remember what the rest of
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: the line was, but like he's saying, he's saying essentially
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: like it doesn't matter. They want to believe in me,
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: so they will. There's not like there's nothing you can do.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: But I like the little blue in the face like
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: humor in it. But everything he's saying is like, it's
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: that's so true. They want to believe me, so they will,
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: there's nothing you can do. And then later I don't
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: know exactly what they're talking about in that moment, but
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: I think they're just talking about lying to the people
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: of Oz. But Alphabet says to the wizard, so you
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: lied to them, and he goes, no, no, nope, well
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: only well only only verbally.
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: I loved that.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: No, well it was fun.
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: And then when he says, I like that dance that
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: was fun after wonderful, yeah, which I love because like
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: in musicals, musicals are so like and they never like
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: comment on the fact that they just did a whole number,
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: and I love that he was good. Again, again, he's
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: not from Oz, He's from Nebraska, and so he's like, oh,
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: that little number that was fun. I like that like,
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: I like that he's calling out like aware of the situation.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Was that the song, because wasn't there a song that
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: they moved from the first act into the second act
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: or something? I feel like my friend said that, I
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: don't remember what it was.
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: Now One Wonderful is always in the second act, but
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: Glinda is not a part of it in the stage.
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: Oh maybe that's what they said. Then Okay, they got
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: them all three Like it worked so well I thought.
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: And also I think that was part of the stage
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: play that always like kind of confused me because I
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: was like, Alphaba would never be convinced by just the wizard, Like.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I must have been.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: We're talking about Yeah. I love the moment where Alphabet
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: has discovered the cages and he's like trying to explain
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: and she unlocks all the cages and just goes run. Yeah,
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: so like chills then I have in munchkin Land after
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: like when Dorothy's leaving, I didn't notice this the first time,
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: but Glinda goes take her time, hurry up, darling.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: Yep. Oh it's the best too, because I think that's
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: the same line where she's like bye Dorothy by Dode
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: just just that one road the whole time.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: That's so funny.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: Take your time, hurry up, Darling.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: Sure she calls him Dodo, though not tote like she
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: does the because in the first part she gets box
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: name wrong or whatever. And I think it was a
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: callback to that. I couldn't you know in the theater
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: you can't tell, right, But I think that was which
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: is fun.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: And then I like when she says, let's go Greenie,
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: here's your use your hands.
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, then.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: Sorry a few more when it's it's a it's a song,
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: it's a lyric.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: But in Noga Deed, the way Cynthia says, well, look
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: at what Well meant did the way she like choose
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: on what She's like, I don't want to do it,
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: so she's like, well look at what Well meant did?
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: Like that the what it is like, I feel it
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: in my Yeah. Then at the end, we can't let
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: be just a word. It has to mean something when
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: Glinda the last two are in the scene when Glinda's
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: talking to Morble at the very end, which is like
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: so satisfying, when she uh just showed that the wizard
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: is leaving and she's like a fact, the kind that
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: is true I love that. And then when she repeats
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: what Morble said to her in Act one, you did
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: not have what it takes. I hope you proved me wrong.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: I doubt you will.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that's incredible, so good.
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: That's all I have that I I Yeah, this one
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: for me was heavier on like lines that were impacted.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that last one you said is for sure
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: my favorite one you had most of I have a couple.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: I guess that you didn't say quite a few, So
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: keep going. Okay, cool. When she pops the bubble and
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: she's like, I'm obsessulated and I enjoyed that.
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: Does that button do what I think it does? When
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: it says what it does?
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: Oat Bow Yang says, I'm goosified. My follicles are screaming.
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: It was so fun. It's like I love my job.
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: Yes, so good, it's so good.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: And yeah, and her just saying I'm off to see
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: the Wizard. It's fun. But otherwise, yeah, Sam, you had
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: all I had all those same ones.
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: I loved so After Alphaba and uh, Glinda broke my brain.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: After they talk in her room and Alphaba goes and
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: sees the Wizard and Glinda comes in, She's like alphaba.
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: You know you could have just exited normally, just use
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: the door.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Hello.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: So I loved that line so much. That's great. I'm
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: pretty sure it's the wizard who says the truth. He
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: might even sing it the truth is not a thing
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: of facts and reason. The truth is just the thing
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: that everyone agrees on. We could get into a whole
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: dissertation of why that is problematic and also very true. Currently,
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: So I loved that line, and then you said it
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: already right, like it is the truth, which is based
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: on fact, like the like call an answer to that
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: of how things are going to be different? I think
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: it's great.
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: Yep, I'll say this is like a total departure from
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: what we were talking about. But something you said, the
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: agreed upon truth. There's something I wanted to mention because
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: I saw a lot of discourse about it and I
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: have a different take. Oh yeah, and I probably should
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: have mentioned it my hot take. But I've seen a
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: lot of discourse about people who are like if the
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: man that I love looked at me and said I'm
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: not lying, I'm just looking at things in a different
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: way about my beauty, I would like i'd be out
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: of there. Okay, which I do understand in this in
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: this world that we live in, that being like an
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: insulting thing to say, but the it's what you just said.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: The truth in this in oz is whatever, it's what
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: is agreed upon, and it is agreed upon. Elfie believes
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: it herself that she is ugly. She is like true
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: like body neutrality. She's like, my body is what my
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: body is. I don't it's not like, doesn't impact who
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: I am as a person, It doesn't impact my like worth.
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: But she doesn't think she's beautiful. She knows that she
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: is not. And for for him, he's like, no, I'm
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: actually I'm not lying to you. I think you're beautiful.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: I'm looking in a different way than like the truth
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: that we've accepted. And so yeah, a little pushback on
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: the people who are like, that's so unromantic. I'm like,
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: I actually think it's really romantic.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: But also like, hey, isn't part of the point you
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: wanted you want to show your romanticism in the same
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: way that your partner will hear it, So like, it
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: doesn't matter if it works for you, that only matters
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: in your relationship. It worked for her in this spot,
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: and that's why you know, Yeah, I love that.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: And then he just screamed saying in her face.
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: Right in her in her mouth.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Really enjoy that.
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: Love that, uh Fierra. When he's talking to Alpha Bud
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: and he's like, my family, I couldn't I couldn't make
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: out what he said, but he said, my family has
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: a castle in blank. I think he says a location Kiamico, Caamicico. Okay,
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: no wonder, I didn't get that.
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: I only know that because of the Wicked the book
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: got it.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: That means. So he says, my family has a castle
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: in Kiamico, never been lived in. And then she's like,
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: where do you live? And he was like the other castle,
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: which I just that was a super funny life. I love.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: Glinda gets kind of pissed in their little fight, and
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: at one point she goes, how dare you send that
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: mulish farm girl off to see the wizard is if
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: he can do anything to help? And I thought that
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: was great because Alphaba gets to own her anger at
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: various points and maybe she doesn't want to, but Glinda
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: doesn't get to do that, and I felt like that
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: was the first step to her coming through right, like
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: another moment of like her true feelings coming out and
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: being like, what the heck? You know all those things?
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: So I thought that was great. And then the last
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: one I have is a it's a song line, why
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: do I love this place? It's never loved me? But
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: Oz is more than just a place. It's a promise,
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: an idea, and like, whoa, that's.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: A yeah place like home?
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: Yeah ye, the opening opening lines, it's so good.
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: I just loved that so much. Yeah. Oh, and then
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: I have one last funny one after their little fight
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: when the palace guard comes Glinda and Alphaba and they've
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: been fighting and Glinda's not winning by any means, but
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: they get pulled apart and she's like, I almost hatter,
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: I almost hatter, And that really cracked me up. I
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: really liked that a lot. Oh that was all I had, though.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Nice, let's go to Biggs Boomer moments. Wait, well, I
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: picked nine.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: I like it. I like it strong.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: My internet isn't great, so let's just see how this goes.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: The first one, when Alphaba sees Dosa bear fleeing under
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: the yellow brick road. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: Love. I missed your bear hug, she says.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: When Alphabe and Glenna see each other for the first time. Yes,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: is that right before, I think when she flies up
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: to her Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like come on in here,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: they'll see. I coupled that with their little reprise of
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: unlimited that they do when they do like that, both
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: broomsticks and they use them as a swing and all that.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I thought that was.
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: That was a wonderful scene. I really liked that, and
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: the again the green and pink behind them and stuff
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: was really cool, I thought. So. Yeah, yep, I love it.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: When Alphas sees all the caged animals and doctor Dilmand
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: can't speak.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: On Yeah, he just does his little bleat.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: I don't understand why it's happening. They don't explain how
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: magic works in the in the world. But other than that, yes,
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: it was emotional when I did.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: When Glenna knows that Fiera loves Alphabet says I'm not
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: that girl.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: My god. Yes, that got me good.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: When after Fear has been taken away and Alphabe and
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: Glinda have their fight, Glinda says he loves her and
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: Alphabet says Glenna, I'm so sorry.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, beautiful, No good.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Deed goes unpunished. The hype tears maybe, yeah, all of it.
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: Yes, you're one hundred percent right. Hype tears for sure?
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: What are hype tears?
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: Uh?
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: So, hype tears we have. I think Lord of the
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: Rings is when it really came in. But I just
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: get so excited, okay that they just the emotion has
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: to come out, and it comes out in tears, so
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: it doesn't always have to be sad. Sometimes it's like
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: Riders of Rohan, you know, and then I'm just like, yeah,
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: it was.
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: Killing Yeah, yeah for.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: Sure, Yeah, nice, I'd be great in a battle.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: They need someone to be wicked so you can be good.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Don't clear my name after I'm gone?
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: Is that?
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: That's tough, but great?
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, just for good? Which is so many boohoos? I
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: feel like I don't know how many there were there.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: Yeah. I kind of just was like that whole thing.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: With you, and then I mean I added I love you,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I love you too, but that might just be part
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: of it too.
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: So I did single that one out specifically, So that's
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: a good shot.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: Okay, cool, Cool, that's what I had. Sammy, did you
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: have more booos that he could have bohooed?
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: Well? I myself had sixteen.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: Dang, good for you.
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: And I'm I'm glad that this is on display because
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: I only had three in the first one because I
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: had seen we talked about I had I'd seen a
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: movie like nine or ten times, and for me, I
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: cry less when I've seen a movie that many times.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: So this being only my second viewing, it was very
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: ready to roll. I I mean, I started crying when
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: she's in Thank Goodness when she starts singing, well, getting
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: your Dreams is strange, but it seems a little well complicated.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: Yeah, part totally.
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: That part gets me.
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: Is time stopped during wait am I thinking of the
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: right scene because it looks like the glitter was suspended,
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: and but Michelle Yeo was moving behind her and so
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: that was confusing. I didn't quite I couldn't quite figure
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: that out anyway.
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm not sure, but that's an interesting thing to
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: like chew on.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: But I didn't know if it was like an introspective moment,
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: you know how they'll do that in especially musicals a
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: lot where it's like spotlight, you know, and then the
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: world comes alive after.
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: I believe it. Way, if it's not like like if
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: it's really happening, I think it could be like because
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: she it could be the introduction of her, like, because
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: no one mourns the wicked. She's not saying guys, no, no, no,
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: she's not the wicked witch. She's like introducing these radical
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: ideas in like a in like a nice city kind
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: of way so that they'll hear her. So that could
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: be like the start.
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: Of that totally.
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: But I don't know, that's interesting. He mentioned the Dulca bear,
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: but I just I cried in no place like calhim
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: like the whole time. Yeah, I'm not that girl reprized,
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: I wrote weirdly, as long as You're mine. I think
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: it might be hype tears. I think I was just like, yeah,
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: cat your man. Oh well no, yeah, we said, can't
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: you see he wasn't gonna hurt me. He loves her.
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: That that talk about that no good deed girl in
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: the bubble got me.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: That one didn't get me. I don't know why there
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: was a line in that, and I don't remember what
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: it was, but it it caught me as like, oh,
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: that just seemed like a little I think it was
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: when she's like and then it pops or something, and
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: I was like, we couldn't think of it, like a
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: slightly more clever way to say that or something.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: Why.
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: It was great And I really liked the reflection of
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: the the little girl version of her. I always think
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: that's so effective, But that one I don't think specifically
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: got me.
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: Yeah, isn't it high time for her bubble to pop?
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: I don't know why that felt ham fisted to me,
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: which is dominant musical, that's how that works.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: But here we are, Oh, oh the moment when Chistory
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: gives Alphaba a piece of heroes are a sweater armor. Yeah,
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: and she's clearly reading a message. But she looks at it,
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: closes it, and and Glinda is like, is it fierro?
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: Is he? And she says we've seen his face for
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: the last time. And then Glinda like loses it.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: Oh, she's reading a message.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: I did not pick up on that.
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's like I think that's part of the stage.
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: It's part of the stage show. I think too. But
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: and they and they John Choose said they shot a
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: moment of you seeing the message, but they didn't want
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: to give away the ending.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: They didn't want to you to.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: Know that like she's not dead. They wanted that emotional
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: weight of like you thinking of ade.
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: That's good to know though, because I was like, how
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: did he get involved in the planning? And like, oh, okay,
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: cool love that.
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: I'm sure it'll be in the deleted scenes when it
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: comes out, but yeah, yeah, that's a message. Oh my god.
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: The Hole for Good the Door split screen, Glinda in
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: the closet watching Elfie melt, Linda holding the hat after
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: and crying, thinking that she's dead, her whole that hat
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: that she like made fun of her with from the
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: first movie. Uh, there was a line. It's it's like
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: after for Good, Glinda is changed. She's she is not
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: who she was anymore. And she goes to the Wizard
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: and she tells him, you you will be leaving Oz today.
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: You've done immense harm or whatever she says. And he's
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: looking at her and she says, did you hear what
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: I said? And there's like, I can't feel like you.
- 1:27:30Speaker 4: Could you feel her whole experience in that? And so
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: that got me, Man, I don't.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: Have that one. But now that you say that, that
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: is a great moment.
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: Oh man, the whole I mean the whole, like last out, no,
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: like forty five minutes probably. I was just like and
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: then in the when they like show No One mourns
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: the Wicked again. Yeah, and we see after after uh
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: when the like camera pulls back from the you know,
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: the beginning, and she's like, I have something more to say,
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: and she puts the wand down, which is her like
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: the wand is the symbolism of her performativism.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Because we say at the beginning, right like the wand
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: really sells it. And she's like, I don't want to
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: do that anymore.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: I want to I don't that, So she like the
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: symbolism of her putting the wand down, and then she's
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: she invites the animals out, and then I'm getting choked out.
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: She she says, we've been through a frightening time or
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: something like that. But I'd like, I'd like to try
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: to help. I'd like to try to be Glanta the
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: good it's getting men.
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: Oh god, let's just stop acting and cry together for all.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: And then that last, that last the shot of her
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: walking alone into the room where they sang to find
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: gravity at the very very end.
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so cool, and.
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and the whole I mean, the whole ending. I
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: don't think I stopped crying for the whole end, but.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: Through the credits. Yeah, I hear you. Uh, the only
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: ones we haven't said.
- 1:29:18Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: Still this is because of what did you say wrong?
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: I can't believe there's a war.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: You shut your mouth, you shut it.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: I know we've just mentioned twenty five.
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, when I stop the Wizard, she does that
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: little reprise of when I see the Wizard but flipped.
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: That got me like right away, that's like the first
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: thing that happens. But I loved that. Yeah, and I
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: loved the it makes you happy too. Right after the engagement,
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: I think, and he's like, you know me, I'm always happy,
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: Like that's so sad. It's so sad for everybody in
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: that moment. That was it. It was just those two
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: wow extra on top of them.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: Do you have when you put it down? Like, how
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: many did you?
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: So? I have thirteen? But I was like that whole song,
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: you know, so it's a little hard.
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, but I'll watch you fair, yeah because I
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: wrote sixteen, but I wrote like separately, the Door, split
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: Screen for Good, Glinda in the closet, watching helfit Like
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: those all are really the same. So didn't stop crying.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, oh lovely, very cathartic. Let's go learn about
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: some movie trivia. Now, let's see Wicked was first. It
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: was first announced it would be split into two films
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: in April of twenty twenty two, with Stephen Schwartz, the composer,
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: explaining the truth is, we try to find some time
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: to make it one movie, which would have required them
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: to cut or admit things that they really wanted to
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: include and that they believed that the fans of the
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: show would appreciate. They found it really difficult to get past.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: Apparently this was kind of the deciding factor. They were like,
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: how do we go on after Define Gravity without a break?
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: Which I think is super fair? And it, you know,
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: like he says, this song is specifically, you know, manufactured
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: right to bring a curtain down and then have like
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: intermission intermission, So how do you do that without making
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: whatever's next anti climactic? And I think that's super duper fair.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: And for that reason, I also think they would have
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: had to make it either so long or cut so
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: many things to make it one movie that it would
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: have been tough. So I think that's a good choice.
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: And yeah, try try doing anything after Define Gravity, Like
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: Holy cow, aches, I didn't notice this, but Fierro's eyes
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: apparently changed color when he sings that he seeing Alpha
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: BA through different eyes. Apparently they have an effect where
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: his eyes changed color as he's doing that. I guess
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: we're just pretty neat and I like that. Yeah, the
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: monkey that stole Glinda's pink jacket is wearing it when
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: Madame Morrible is talking to the citizens of Oz, and
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: I think that's fun. Let's see, Glinda's purplish blue dress,
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: which he first wears in Thank Goodness, is apparently a
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: homage to both Billy Burke's pink Glinda gown from the
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: Wizard of Oz and the blue dress worn by Glinda
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: in the stage version of Wicked. So I think that's
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: kind of.
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: Fun, which conveniently, when you combine blue and pink, it
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: makes lavender, and lavender is a symbolic when talking about
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: like gayness, right right.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: Yeah, very queer spectrum. Really right. Yeah, that's cool. I
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: like that. That's fun. We said that ed LIBBD part
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: in early development of the stage musical. Back in two
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: thousand and three, Kristin Chenowith repeatedly requested a number for
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: Glinda in Act two. However, Stephen Schwartz never provided one,
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: and the original song The Girl in the Bubble finally
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: gives Glinda that second AX song, so that's kind of cool,
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: kind of fun. Jenna with is probably all right cool,
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: thanks dude. Rude. Let's see, we don't see Dorothy's face
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: at all during the movie, and John Chu, the director,
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: said that he believed that nobody could replace Judy Garland
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: as Dorothy, and so they just decided, because this is
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: Alphabe and Glinda's story, We're just not going to even
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: go down that road, which I think is probably the
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: right move, honestly. Oh and the last thing I had
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: was the Gingham curtains seen in the window of the
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: house that fell on the Wicked Witch of the East
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: is a nod to the dress worn by Dorothy in
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: The Wizard of I'm sure most people caught that, but
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: I just I thought that was nice.
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: I love that. Yeah, and also, probably like Illustrates, people
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: did that at the time. They would just buy a
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: bunch of fabric, make their clothes, use it for their curtains.
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: Like she was living. They were living in kind of poverty,
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: so right.
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: For sure, Uh, there wasn't a ton of trivia, so
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: that was all the trivia I had for this one.
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: Did you do you see any rop?
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: I didn't see anything else that you didn't.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Mention, Uh see any any other trivia?
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: You feel like we have to know or to two
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: things that I want to mention two people who don't
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: know the stage show, they might not know that, Uh
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: there was a there was something changed. I feel like
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: there were two vocal things changed. But I'm the only
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: the one that's coming in the mind right now. Yeah,
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: No Good Deeds starts on the stage play starts with
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: and I put this in the PowerPoint, so beegs you've
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: seen it, But it starts with Alphabus screaming Fierro. Right,
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: But in this in the movie, they started the score
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: of the song before we even see kiyama Ko with
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: Glinda screaming Fierro as he's being taken away, which I
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: thought was such a cool choice.
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that really works. I would have never guessed that's different.
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: Interesting cool because we I mean, the whole point of
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: her screaming, of either of them screaming Fierro is like
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: just the anguish the pain that whomever is singing it
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: is in. And I think it's really interesting that we
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: get to see Glinda have that because she is in anguish,
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: like this is this movie is relentless for her, and
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: it's it's satisfying that we get to hear her scream
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: that we don't get moments like that from her. So
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: I thought that was a cool flip, cool artistic choice.
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: And then I really I would love to know if
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: this was like Jeff Goldbloom's idea. But in Wonderful, I
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: can't remember if he was already singing or if it
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: was just a I think it was while he's singing,
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: but he like goes over to this globe and he
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: like it's like a balloon kind of thing, and he
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: like starts playing with it. There is a movie gosh,
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: now I can't remember what it's called, but it's Charlie Chaplin,
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: Oh back in the day, and I wish I remember
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: the name of it, but like, watch that scene Charlie
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: Chaplin globe. It is verbena like it's polled, and it's
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: Charlie Chaplin is playing Hitler.
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: Yeah, the Great Dictator. That's what I was gonna guess
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: that one. Oh interesting, So that's an homage to that scene.
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: It's it's an homage to that scene to narcissism to dictatorship.
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: It's it is making their portrayal of the wizard like
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: blatantly clear, like this is who he is. This is
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: which I thought I thought was so cool. I would
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: have never known that on my own. I saw that
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: on the Internet and went and watched. But I find
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: that interesting because Jeff Goldblum is Jewish and his family
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: I think I think he has family who like escaped
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: the Holocauster lived through the Holocaust. So I I'm really
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: curious to know like if he had any like role
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: in like wanting that.
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: To be Yeah, that's super cool.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: Yeah nice, very neat.
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: Love that.
- 1:37:38Speaker 4: Yeah cool.
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: I have, Uh what do we think of Judgment Day?
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: Will there be a sequel?
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: Maybe?
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: I feel there might be, Like I don't, it feels
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: like the door's open.
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: I don't know, We'll see. I guess we could have
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: that horror movie of tin Man just being there for
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: all of eternity, just freaking out. Yeah.
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: I think I think the studio probably wants it.
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: Oh for sure they do. They're like cash them.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: But luckily I think the creators of it, like John
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: Chew and Alice Brooks and you know everyone WINNI holds Man,
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: Dana Fox, all of them. I think they'll only return
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: if they feel like it serves the story, which I'm
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: grateful for. But I think it's possible.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: Same.
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: I mean, there are Gregory Maguire is still writing books
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: from this world.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: That's wild.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: Yeah crazy, Well time will tell. Who knows? Yeah?
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Crazy? Should we even try and do a starting five?
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Should I try and do a game? I don't know
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: if my internet's gonna hold up for this.
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: It's it's only delayed like when we bring in, So
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: it's kind of up to you. I don't know. We
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: think we could just skip it this time.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: I mean, are you getting everything that I'm saying or
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: is it coming.
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: From your end? It's fine, it's just that when I
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: start talking, I know you're hearing it like three seconds later. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: see I nailed it.
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: So I don't know what to do. Yeah, I don't
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: know what to do.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: Well, what are we? What are we at?
- 1:39:29Speaker 6: Oh?
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: This is a good length. Let's just let's just skip
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: it for it's a good length.
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: Yeah all right, Yeah, I think so I had one.

- 1:39:57Speaker 3: be super fun. And I don't I just plan on
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: crying the whole time, so that'll be good. Uh, Sammy,
