- 0:12Speaker 2: take an in depth look at the three players selected
- 0:15Speaker 2: by the Bengals on day two of the draft, Chris Jenkins,
- 0:19Speaker 2: Jermaine Burton and McKinley Jackson. Coming up, you'll hear from
- 0:24Speaker 2: that trio as well as Bengals coaches. Then I'll discuss
- 0:28Speaker 2: the picks with my broadcast partner Dave Lappom and look
- 0:31Speaker 2: ahead to day three. The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought

- 1:05Speaker 2: you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since the Key,
- 1:10Speaker 2: Lime Crumble, Chobanni Flip. If you've never had a Chobani
- 1:14Speaker 2: flip before. It's a snack that comes in a small
- 1:17Speaker 2: plastic container with two compartments. One has Chobanni brand yogurt
- 1:22Speaker 2: in it and the other has goodies that you mix
- 1:25Speaker 2: in by flipping that compartment upside down, thus the name
- 1:30Speaker 2: cho Banni Flip. Well, on Friday night, before Day two
- 1:34Speaker 2: of the draft got underway, several members of the local
- 1:36Speaker 2: media took advantage of the Key Lime Crumble flavor that
- 1:41Speaker 2: was available in the Bengals dining room. It features key
- 1:44Speaker 2: Lime yogurt and then you mix in Graham cracker crumbles
- 1:48Speaker 2: and chunks of white chocolate. In the words of a
- 1:51Speaker 2: draft expert, it's a can't miss snack with tremendous upside.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So if you're putting together, you're snacking big. The Key
- 2:01Speaker 2: Lime crumpled Chobanni Flip is a surefire first round draft pick. Now,
- 2:07Speaker 2: let's get to Day two of the draft. After addressing
- 2:11Speaker 2: offensive tackle in the first round with a selection of
- 2:13Speaker 2: Amarus Mims, the Bengals chose a defensive tackle in round
- 2:17Speaker 2: two in Michigan's Chris Jenkins. He's not a DJ Reeder
- 2:22Speaker 2: noseguard type who will clog the middle. He's a penetrator
- 2:26Speaker 2: who served as a team captain for the national champion
- 2:29Speaker 2: wolfver Reines. It's no secret that the Bengals need to
- 2:32Speaker 2: beef up their depth in the middle of the d line.
- 2:35Speaker 2: In Cincinnati got Dane Brugler's third rated defensive tackle with
- 2:39Speaker 2: a forty ninth overall pick. Here's Zach Taylor.
- 2:43Speaker 3: He was a priory position, but again, we weren't just
- 2:46Speaker 3: gonna take anybody, and we were very fortunate the way
- 2:48Speaker 3: it fell. We had high marks on Chris and so
- 2:52Speaker 3: thank goodness he was there. But he was a priory
- 2:54Speaker 3: position for us, but at the same time, we weren't
- 2:56Speaker 3: just gonna take anybody, and he was one that we
- 2:59Speaker 3: specifically targeted, and so we were we were happy he
- 3:02Speaker 3: was at forty nine.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Jenkins lacks ideal size, He's six to two hundred and
- 3:06Speaker 2: ninety nine pounds, but he's an excellent athlete who earned
- 3:10Speaker 2: the nickname the Mutant from his strength coach at Michigan.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Our same coach, Coach Hurd, gave it to me because
- 3:18Speaker 4: I just went above and beyond in the weight room
- 3:19Speaker 4: and I did some things that you know, people looking
- 3:22Speaker 4: at me wouldn't expect me to do, and he said,
- 3:24Speaker 4: my mentality, you know, how I carry myself, how I
- 3:26Speaker 4: pushed through adversity, injury, anything, is a mutant mentality. And
- 3:31Speaker 4: that's where he gave the name to me my sophomore
- 3:32Speaker 4: year and it stuck ever since.
- 3:34Speaker 2: The Mutant is the son of a four time Pro Bowler.
- 3:37Speaker 2: His dad, Chris Senior, spent ten years in the NFL
- 3:40Speaker 2: with the Panthers in Jets. In the next round, the
- 3:43Speaker 2: Bengals picks were announced by former Pro Bowl receiver TJ.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Hushman Zada, and it seemed like fate when TJ announced
- 3:51Speaker 2: the Bengals first third round pick.
- 3:54Speaker 5: So this pick means this pick means something to me
- 3:57Speaker 5: as I've been training this kid for a long time
- 4:00Speaker 5: and now he's gonna be drafted by the Bingles. So
- 4:03Speaker 5: with the eightieth pig in a twenty twenty four NFL draft,
- 4:07Speaker 5: the Cincinnati Bingals select Jermaine Burdon wide receiver Alabama.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Burton spent his first two college seasons at Georgia before
- 4:16Speaker 2: finishing with two years at Alabama. He's six feet tall,
- 4:19Speaker 2: a solid one hundred ninety six pounds, and ran a
- 4:22Speaker 2: four four five forty at the combine in his college career,
- 4:27Speaker 2: he averaged eighteen yards to catch. Here's offensive coordinator Dan
- 4:31Speaker 2: Pitcher on how Burton will fit with Jamar Chase and
- 4:35Speaker 2: t Higgins.
- 4:36Speaker 6: He'll fig great. I mean, he's explosive, and so that's
- 4:39Speaker 6: really our job now as to how do we mix
- 4:42Speaker 6: and match those skill sets. But what he brings to
- 4:46Speaker 6: the table with regard to the threat he's gonna post
- 4:50Speaker 6: to the defense, how they're gonna have to respect all
- 4:52Speaker 6: three of those players in the explosiveness they bring. We'll
- 4:55Speaker 6: figure that part out, but he'll take care of the
- 4:58Speaker 6: hard part, which is separating from defense and catching the football.
- 5:01Speaker 2: As for that Hushman's out of connection. Burton says that
- 5:03Speaker 2: it's crazy that DJ announced his pick and that he's
- 5:07Speaker 2: going to his former team.
- 5:09Speaker 7: You know, it's honestly amazing, you know, having TJ train me,
- 5:12Speaker 7: you know throughout these past few years of you know,
- 5:15Speaker 7: even going into college. You know, working with him is
- 5:20Speaker 7: you know, is honestly great. It's just just to know
- 5:22Speaker 7: his history and his background with the game of football,
- 5:24Speaker 7: that his knowledge on it, and you know, to see
- 5:27Speaker 7: the way he thinks and you know the way he
- 5:30Speaker 7: put puts it into the drills and you know, the
- 5:32Speaker 7: way he talks to you and his terminology. You know,
- 5:35Speaker 7: it's just it's a It really helps me. And you
- 5:38Speaker 7: know we also developed a relationship, you know, to the point,
- 5:41Speaker 7: you know we talk about other things and you know,
- 5:43Speaker 7: just life things and you know, just a lot of
- 5:45Speaker 7: maturity growth.
- 5:46Speaker 2: With their second pick in the third round, number ninety
- 5:48Speaker 2: seven overall, the Bengals doubled down on defensive tackle and
- 5:52Speaker 2: chose McKinley Jackson out of Texas A and M who
- 5:55Speaker 2: addresses the void left by the departure of DJ Reader.
- 5:59Speaker 3: He's a guy we've talked a lot about, you know.
- 6:00Speaker 3: He he fits a good spot for us. You know,
- 6:04Speaker 3: three hundred and thirty pound nose guard. There's not a
- 6:08Speaker 3: lot of those in the draft. He's a guy that
- 6:10Speaker 3: we had rated highly and he was sitting right there
- 6:12Speaker 3: for us in the third rounds was the right spot
- 6:14Speaker 3: to take him. I don't think you ever go wrong
- 6:16Speaker 3: adding to your defensive line. You know, as a head coach,
- 6:19Speaker 3: as an offensive play caller that faces faces these guys
- 6:23Speaker 3: every every week and you have to prepare for him.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Depth at defensive tackle defensive end is critical and if
- 6:31Speaker 3: you don't have it, if all of a sudden, you
- 6:32Speaker 3: come up short, it doesn't matter what's going on behind it,
- 6:34Speaker 3: you know. So I think that's the number one thing
- 6:37Speaker 3: to take the pressure off the back seven is to
- 6:39Speaker 3: continue to add to your defensive line. And we had
- 6:41Speaker 3: the opportunity to do that today and makes me sleep
- 6:44Speaker 3: a lot better at night.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Jackson was a two time captain at A and M
- 6:48Speaker 2: and says he'll be a fit on the Bengals defense.
- 6:51Speaker 1: You know, I played football. I no matter what the
- 6:53Speaker 1: system it is. You know our cent I get the
- 6:55Speaker 1: better word. I want to get to play book and
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know brings the championship.
- 7:00Speaker 2: The Bengals Booth podcast is brought to you by pay Corps,

- 7:14Speaker 2: Health the best care for the best fans. Kettering Health
- 7:18Speaker 2: is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. Now time
- 7:22Speaker 2: for analysis of Day two and I'll look ahead to
- 7:25Speaker 2: the final four rounds of the draft with my broadcast
- 7:27Speaker 2: partner Dave Lapham. All Right, lap Let's start with the
- 7:32Speaker 2: Bengals second round draft pick defensive tackle Chris Jenkins out
- 7:35Speaker 2: of Michigan, a captain on a national championship team, the
- 7:39Speaker 2: son of a four time pro bowler, and obviously somebody
- 7:43Speaker 2: the Bengals are going to be counting on this year
- 7:46Speaker 2: to be an important part of their defensive tackle rotation,
- 7:49Speaker 2: no question.
- 7:50Speaker 8: You know, this kid is six two and a half,
- 7:54Speaker 8: about three hundred pounds, runs five forty He's got good
- 7:59Speaker 8: arm length to thirty four inches, wingspans almost eighty inches.
- 8:03Speaker 1: You know, it's and the thing, the.
- 8:04Speaker 8: Thing that's been impressive to me, and with the liberalization
- 8:09Speaker 8: of the rules and earthing and athletics, starts with the
- 8:13Speaker 8: feed ends.
- 8:13Speaker 1: With your hands. All of these guys.
- 8:16Speaker 8: The the the Bengals are drafted in the interior of
- 8:18Speaker 8: the defensive line, of the offensive line.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Big strong, massive hands, and that that hand strength is
- 8:25Speaker 1: a big deal.
- 8:26Speaker 8: I mean, if he gets you in the position, now
- 8:28Speaker 8: you're allowed to get your hands within the framework of
- 8:30Speaker 8: the body clamp on them. Those big strong muckers that
- 8:33Speaker 8: these guys have and control people. And uh, he he
- 8:37Speaker 8: really does does a nice job with his with his hands.
- 8:40Speaker 8: There's no question he's got excellent functional football strength. In
- 8:43Speaker 8: my estimation, powerful athletic. You know, he's more of a
- 8:48Speaker 8: three technique. He slided out to a five technique occasionally. Uh,
- 8:52Speaker 8: you know, very physical at the point of attack. He
- 8:54Speaker 8: keeps his pad level down. He's uh, you know, he's
- 8:58Speaker 8: a he's a damn good football player. He's got lateral
- 9:02Speaker 8: movement skills that that are solid.
- 9:04Speaker 1: You know, he's not knocked off his feet.
- 9:07Speaker 8: He can stack and ship people pretty darn well good
- 9:10Speaker 8: pursued angles to the football. Uh, he's a he's an
- 9:14Speaker 8: excellent football player.
- 9:15Speaker 4: You know.
- 9:15Speaker 1: He, like you say, grew up.
- 9:16Speaker 8: Around the game with his dad playing at the at
- 9:19Speaker 8: the at the high level that that his dad played at.
- 9:22Speaker 1: And uh, you know, he's he's definitely.
- 9:25Speaker 8: Uh, he's he's got you know, quickness, can get around
- 9:30Speaker 8: the blockers need be so he can change that up.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He can bull rush you.
- 9:34Speaker 8: I mean, he's got a mirriad of ways to pressure
- 9:36Speaker 8: the quarterback too. He is more of a three technique
- 9:39Speaker 8: kind of guy, though he's not the nose tackle kind
- 9:42Speaker 8: of guy. And the Bengals did address that, you know,
- 9:44Speaker 8: later on in the in the draft, but he was
- 9:47Speaker 8: on the board at that spot. He was obviously the
- 9:50Speaker 8: best guy on their board, and they stayed true to
- 9:52Speaker 8: their board, and they go and they get you know,
- 9:55Speaker 8: a guy that is very, very consistent in his effort.
- 10:00Speaker 1: There's no doubt about that. He's a solid NFL prospect.
- 10:05Speaker 8: But I do think he plays the run better than
- 10:08Speaker 8: the past at this point in time. But that's what's
- 10:10Speaker 8: asked of him at Michigan, you know, that's.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Basically the way they have their defensive lineman play in
- 10:16Speaker 1: their front seven play.
- 10:18Speaker 8: So I think he can be you know, developed, I
- 10:21Speaker 8: think pretty quickly and effectively. Is a little bit better
- 10:26Speaker 8: pass rusher than he show up to college.
- 10:28Speaker 2: He's not a gigantic man like Amarius Mims that we
- 10:33Speaker 2: met earlier today. Chris Jenkins is about six three, weighed
- 10:37Speaker 2: in at two hundred and ninety nine pounds, But the
- 10:39Speaker 2: old Michigan strength coach who followed Jim Harbaugh out to
- 10:43Speaker 2: the Chargers nicknamed him the Mutant when he was a
- 10:46Speaker 2: sophomore in college for his performances in the weight room
- 10:49Speaker 2: and his attitude, you know, when times were tough. So
- 10:53Speaker 2: sometimes you don't have to be three hundred and twenty
- 10:57Speaker 2: pounds to impose your will on the defensive line.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 8: Absolutely, And he's you know you can probably you didn't
- 11:04Speaker 8: get a little bit bigger as he matures, you know,
- 11:07Speaker 8: I mean he's uh, he's got that like Randy White
- 11:11Speaker 8: was the manster part man park monster. That's what I
- 11:15Speaker 8: think Jenkins aspires.
- 11:16Speaker 1: To be, you know.
- 11:18Speaker 8: And and honestly, the Bengals the way they are, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 8: addressing things with the offensive line is the land of
- 11:26Speaker 8: the Giants, and they're trying to compete with that title
- 11:29Speaker 8: with with what they're trying to do on the interior.
- 11:33Speaker 8: And uh, it's Are all these guys gonna be starters?
- 11:38Speaker 1: No, not necessarily. Will they be in a rotation?
- 11:41Speaker 8: Hell yeah, I'll be in a rotation in some way,
- 11:43Speaker 8: shape or form. Eight guys all made all eight Brookies
- 11:47Speaker 8: last year. They all made the football team. They all
- 11:49Speaker 8: had a role initially expanded upon those roles. And the
- 11:53Speaker 8: three guys that they have drafted in uh in the
- 11:55Speaker 8: first two rounds, uh in this in this draft, in
- 11:59Speaker 8: the national and first.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Three rounds, I should say that for the first four.
- 12:02Speaker 8: Guys they drafted, I think we'll all make the football
- 12:06Speaker 8: team and have a significant role. So that's their last
- 12:10Speaker 8: eleven draft picks. You know, it's they've they've done a
- 12:13Speaker 8: damn good job. And honestly, the way the National Football
- 12:16Speaker 8: League is today, when you're paying your quarterback pick dollars
- 12:19Speaker 8: and you're gonna pay multiple receivers potentially big dollars.
- 12:23Speaker 1: You have to put the bat on the ball.
- 12:25Speaker 8: You have to have rookies that can contribute, because you
- 12:28Speaker 8: know they're under rookie contracts, and that's.
- 12:30Speaker 1: The way you can control that that salary cap. So
- 12:34Speaker 1: the draft becomes more and more important. And you know,
- 12:37Speaker 1: I think it's very easy.
- 12:38Speaker 8: To have a great draft like they did in twenty
- 12:40Speaker 8: twenty when they had the first pick in every round.
- 12:43Speaker 1: There's no doubt about that.
- 12:45Speaker 8: And honestly, I think the closer you get to the
- 12:49Speaker 8: end of the round, like when they went to the
- 12:51Speaker 8: Super Bowl, I think that is a good spot to
- 12:54Speaker 8: be too, because you can always pick up the guys
- 12:56Speaker 8: that slid. Oh man, this guy's still here. Oh my god,
- 13:00Speaker 8: we didn't expect he'd be here before he slides.
- 13:02Speaker 1: The second round. Let's clean this up. You do that
- 13:05Speaker 1: every round.
- 13:05Speaker 8: I think you can set yourself off for a decent draft.
- 13:08Speaker 8: I mean, Kansas City's made a living on it. But
- 13:10Speaker 8: if you're in the middle of the round, now it's like, oh,
- 13:14Speaker 8: do we contribute to the slide of this player or
- 13:16Speaker 8: should we end the slide or do we have somebody
- 13:19Speaker 8: you know a little bit better on our draft board.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It does. It's so not a need. We don't want
- 13:24Speaker 1: to go there. I mean, I think the middle of
- 13:27Speaker 1: the round can be.
- 13:28Speaker 8: Almost one of the more difficult spots to pick, and
- 13:30Speaker 8: I think they're doing a hell of a job of
- 13:33Speaker 8: kicking quality flares.
- 13:34Speaker 1: At that point.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Let's jump to the third round and actually go to
- 13:38Speaker 2: their second third round pick, since they doubled down at
- 13:41Speaker 2: the defensive tackle position and selected McKinley Jackson number ninety
- 13:45Speaker 2: seven overall. According to Dame Brugler of The Athletic, he
- 13:49Speaker 2: had a sixth or seventh round grade, so maybe the
- 13:53Speaker 2: Bengals took him a little bit higher than some of
- 13:55Speaker 2: the experts expected. But this is more of a DJ
- 13:58Speaker 2: Reader type replacement. This is a large man three d
- 14:01Speaker 2: and twenty five pounds, two time captain at Texas A
- 14:05Speaker 2: and m Lunarumo told reporters after the selection that he
- 14:08Speaker 2: is close to the ball nose tackle shade type guy.
- 14:14Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean he is. He's a zero technique of
- 14:17Speaker 8: one technique compilation of of the mock drafts.
- 14:21Speaker 1: That I saw.
- 14:22Speaker 8: I had him as the third rounder. You know it
- 14:25Speaker 8: was I don't know. I mean, everybody has has has
- 14:28Speaker 8: differences of opinion. That's what makes the draft so beautiful
- 14:32Speaker 8: because it's totally non scientific. But the Bengals obviously had
- 14:36Speaker 8: him rated decently on their board into the third round
- 14:41Speaker 8: because I thought, wow, it might go exactly as I
- 14:44Speaker 8: had hoped. You know, you start out with an offensive
- 14:47Speaker 8: tackle and then you a receiver is pick, a defensive
- 14:53Speaker 8: tackles picked, and a receiver's pick. Then they doubled down
- 14:56Speaker 8: on defensive tackle because more cornerbacks were off the board.
- 14:59Speaker 1: They had defensive tackle.
- 15:01Speaker 8: In this In this case, I mean, Kenley Jackson rated
- 15:04Speaker 8: higher than the remaining quarterback and our cornerbacks on their
- 15:07Speaker 8: big board, and uh, you know it's like he's a
- 15:11Speaker 8: he's basically a zero technique in the yard front. I mean,
- 15:14Speaker 8: he's the he's the nose tackle they're looking for. And
- 15:19Speaker 8: for a guy you know that's gonna play that.
- 15:21Speaker 1: He's six one and a half. You know, he's he's
- 15:24Speaker 1: got decent, decent height, He's got long arms. Though, man,
- 15:28Speaker 1: he's a he's a burly dude. Man, he's put together.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But at three hundred and.
- 15:32Speaker 8: Twenty six pounds, he's almost got.
- 15:34Speaker 1: A thirty four inch you know length to his arms.
- 15:36Speaker 8: He's got a ten inch and in a wingspan of
- 15:39Speaker 8: over eighty inches. So they're doing a tremendous job of
- 15:43Speaker 8: of You know, a guy with with that type of
- 15:46Speaker 8: that type of body is one of those dudes that
- 15:48Speaker 8: entire shoes without bending over. You know, he's he's he's
- 15:51Speaker 8: gonna be able to control you with those long arms
- 15:53Speaker 8: and those strong hands. He's an impressive athlete for his size.
- 15:57Speaker 8: You know, there's no question. I mean, he has quick feeding.
- 16:01Speaker 8: He plays low. When he doesn't, he's gonna have issues,
- 16:04Speaker 8: There's no question about that. I mean, I know I've
- 16:07Speaker 8: seen him get moved pretty well on some double teams.
- 16:10Speaker 8: But he's he's got a lot of masks and if
- 16:12Speaker 8: he handles it right, he's a damn good uh two
- 16:15Speaker 8: gap defender.
- 16:16Speaker 1: There's no question about that.
- 16:17Speaker 8: He's got strength, he's got athleticism. You know, he'll he
- 16:22Speaker 8: does have like he'll he'll he'll snatch you and swim
- 16:24Speaker 8: a little bit. You know, he's he's a he's a
- 16:28Speaker 8: brute strength kind of guy. You know, he's a and
- 16:31Speaker 8: it's not like he can't play a defense where it's
- 16:36Speaker 8: a penetration into gaps. He's got the versatility to do that,
- 16:40Speaker 8: I will, playing both in a one gap and the
- 16:41Speaker 8: two gap kind of scenario. So he gives Lure in
- 16:44Speaker 8: a amos some versatility in that regard. And again talking
- 16:49Speaker 8: about the hands, he's got violent hands, I mean strong
- 16:52Speaker 8: lower body, uh, strong moodor second effort guy. Sometimes you
- 16:58Speaker 8: know he is he's got his nose over his skis
- 17:02Speaker 8: and he ends up on the ground a little bit
- 17:03Speaker 8: against single blocks, which.
- 17:05Speaker 1: You know that can be corrected very easily.
- 17:08Speaker 8: So he's I think, I think he's you know, he
- 17:13Speaker 8: looks maybe he's a little bit tight in his hips.
- 17:15Speaker 8: That might be the only you know, knock that you
- 17:18Speaker 8: can you can throw out there with him. But again,
- 17:22Speaker 8: I think they gave up eighty two plays of twenty
- 17:26Speaker 8: yards or more.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And if you have trouble stopping.
- 17:30Speaker 8: The run and give up big plays in the running game,
- 17:33Speaker 8: you're going to get crushed in the passing game.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And some of it was getting beaten physically.
- 17:39Speaker 8: A lot of it was you know, metal mistakes hit
- 17:41Speaker 8: and raw gaps and breaking down and coverages and that
- 17:43Speaker 8: sort of thing. But what you want to do is
- 17:46Speaker 8: rectify any of the problems that you have from a
- 17:49Speaker 8: physical standpoint. And you lose DJ reader, you got to
- 17:53Speaker 8: do something, man. You've got to get some people that
- 17:55Speaker 8: you can rotate in there to plug up that running game,
- 17:57Speaker 8: particularly in this division. And it was amazing to me
- 18:00Speaker 8: to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers almost duplicate every position Bengals took.
- 18:04Speaker 1: They took one. It was unbelievable.
- 18:06Speaker 8: Bengals take an offensive lineman, they take one. Bengals take
- 18:08Speaker 8: an interior defensive limon, they take one. You know, Bengals
- 18:11Speaker 8: take a wide receiver. They seemed to me it was amazing.
- 18:15Speaker 8: So Baltimore, I think did their solid job. Cleveland didn't
- 18:19Speaker 8: have a whole lot of a lot of hooks in the.
- 18:21Speaker 9: Initial stages, but in this division you'd have to be
- 18:25Speaker 9: able to be pig physical and run the ball with
- 18:29Speaker 9: some a modicum of consistency and stop the run with
- 18:33Speaker 9: a bigger mod consistency.
- 18:36Speaker 2: So in between the two defensive tackles selected, there was
- 18:39Speaker 2: a wide receiver. Jermaine Burton started his college career Georgia,
- 18:42Speaker 2: spent two years there, finished it at Alabama, spent two
- 18:46Speaker 2: years there and averaged eighteen yards per catch, playing four
- 18:50Speaker 2: seasons in the SEC. The word explosive jumps out when
- 18:54Speaker 2: you watch the tape of Jermaine Burton.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Jermaine Burton is a dog.
- 19:00Speaker 8: I mean there's no other, no better way, and I
- 19:03Speaker 8: mean that in a good way of four years starter.
- 19:05Speaker 1: He said in Georgia for a couple then he goes
- 19:07Speaker 1: to Alabama. I mean, this.
- 19:10Speaker 8: Guy is you know, he he averaged a career high
- 19:14Speaker 8: twenty and a half catch yards per catch last year,
- 19:16Speaker 8: number one in the SEC.
- 19:18Speaker 1: We're talking SEC.
- 19:19Speaker 8: We're talking Georgia, We're talking Alabama. He plays with definitely
- 19:23Speaker 8: a swagger. He plays with a toughness who worked the
- 19:27Speaker 8: middle of the field and and and be physical in
- 19:31Speaker 8: that area of it.
- 19:32Speaker 1: He can get vertical in a hurry. He's got speed
- 19:35Speaker 1: and he's a quality route runner. You can you know,
- 19:38Speaker 1: with that speed, he can sink his hips and get
- 19:41Speaker 1: in and out of cuts.
- 19:43Speaker 8: He's got an extremely low drop rate, it's the most
- 19:47Speaker 8: the lowest in this class of wide receivers. And you
- 19:50Speaker 8: know he had some off the field issues. I think
- 19:53Speaker 8: part of that was due to his competitive nature. Uh
- 19:58Speaker 8: to be I guess about it. But that's a matter
- 20:02Speaker 8: of maturity, a matter of growing up a little bit.
- 20:04Speaker 8: And I think that it's not like they feel like
- 20:09Speaker 8: he's you know, he robbed a bank or he's got an.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Alcoholic drug problem or whatever. And this locker room is
- 20:14Speaker 1: is solid. I mean, it's it's got a lot of uh,
- 20:18Speaker 1: a lot of high quality guys in it.
- 20:20Speaker 8: And I'm sure they feel like the wide receiver room
- 20:22Speaker 8: and the coach of the wide receiver room is a
- 20:25Speaker 8: former player himself, and they feel like they can probably
- 20:28Speaker 8: help this guy in that maturation process a little bit.
- 20:31Speaker 8: And again we talk about hands. His hands were oversized,
- 20:35Speaker 8: his frame for his body type, and the statshers out
- 20:38Speaker 8: of that football pretty down done, effectively plays through contact,
- 20:42Speaker 8: and the dude's fielders. There's no doubt about it. Like
- 20:44Speaker 8: I said, I mean, he's a dog. There's I thought, Okay, Well,
- 20:48Speaker 8: then in the corner of it, and then it's like
- 20:51Speaker 8: Burton heat he's he's the best.
- 20:54Speaker 1: He's the best. He's got the most.
- 20:56Speaker 8: Talent that's left on the board put up you know,
- 20:59Speaker 8: significant nun numbers against the best players in college football,
- 21:04Speaker 8: in the conference that college football has to offer.
- 21:07Speaker 1: So I like to pick man. I'm excited to see
- 21:11Speaker 1: high he blossoms.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And the Bengals definitely vetted his character. They took one
- 21:16Speaker 2: of their visits that they're allowed to have with players
- 21:18Speaker 2: at the Combine and used it on him. Then they
- 21:21Speaker 2: used one of their thirty you know, visits in Cincinnati
- 21:25Speaker 2: that they're allowed to have on him. So they took
- 21:28Speaker 2: a couple of opportunities to talk to him to get
- 21:31Speaker 2: to the bottom of some of these things that happened,
- 21:33Speaker 2: including a postgame incident in a game against Tennessee. And
- 21:36Speaker 2: they came away from those two meetings thinking, you know what,
- 21:39Speaker 2: this is a good person that's made a couple of
- 21:41Speaker 2: mistakes and he's going to fit in nicely here, right, you.
- 21:44Speaker 8: Know, competitive nature of losing the temper, you know, confrontation
- 21:48Speaker 8: with the band, I mean, those are things that do
- 21:52Speaker 8: you want it to be something that happens with any.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Kind of regularity?
- 21:56Speaker 8: Now, I mean, do you think possibly he may have
- 22:00Speaker 8: learned something, you know, maybe maybe uh you know, in
- 22:05Speaker 8: Alabama can can help him get some counseling, Maybe the
- 22:08Speaker 8: Bengals can help get some consoling and control his temp
- 22:11Speaker 8: a little bit. But part of that is what makes
- 22:13Speaker 8: him such a good football player.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Man. The dude is competitive. He is a d a
- 22:18Speaker 1: W G. Dog.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Well, he spent the last few years training in the
- 22:23Speaker 2: off season under t J. Hushman Zada another guy who
- 22:26Speaker 2: could be described as a dog in his playing days.
- 22:29Speaker 2: And you know, if he's got TJ's stamp of approval,
- 22:32Speaker 2: I'm okay with that.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I hear that.
- 22:35Speaker 8: And you know, here's a guy that you know, four
- 22:37Speaker 8: four five, you know, in his arms thirty one inches,
- 22:40Speaker 8: I mean his wingspans almost seventy five inches, uh, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 8: and and a little over six feet hundred ninety six pounds.
- 22:48Speaker 8: I mean, he's uh, he's done. He's done a lot
- 22:51Speaker 8: of a lot of trains sty they drafted. They drafted
- 22:54Speaker 8: guys with measurables and a lot of traits that in
- 22:58Speaker 8: in uh, you know, everybody's estimation could lend itself to
- 23:03Speaker 8: success in the in the National Football League. And I
- 23:06Speaker 8: think I trust the fact that they feel like they
- 23:09Speaker 8: can control and handle any issues that he may have
- 23:14Speaker 8: and he'll be a big contributor for him on the
- 23:16Speaker 8: football field.
- 23:18Speaker 2: All right, let's quickly look ahead to Day three. The
- 23:20Speaker 2: Bengals have six picks left. They've got a fourth, a
- 23:24Speaker 2: fifth to sixth round picks, and two seventh round picks.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I think a couple of those picks will probably be
- 23:31Speaker 2: used on cornerbacks. Yep, that's cornerbacks, not quarterbacks. I wouldn't
- 23:36Speaker 2: be surprised if a pick is used on a punter
- 23:38Speaker 2: to complete with compete with Brad Robbins. Maybe somebody who
- 23:43Speaker 2: had experience as a kick returner in college. Since you've
- 23:45Speaker 2: got the new kick return rules in the NFL, I'm
- 23:48Speaker 2: sure they're thinking about somebody that can do that. Any
- 23:51Speaker 2: other thoughts for you on position groups they'll be attacking
- 23:55Speaker 2: on Day three?
- 23:56Speaker 8: You know, I agree with you, Dan, I mean, you
- 23:58Speaker 8: have to address the corners, and in the fourth, fifth, sixth,
- 24:03Speaker 8: and seventh round you're looking at twenty six draftable players,
- 24:07Speaker 8: you know. I mean there are forty one draftable corners overall,
- 24:11Speaker 8: and over half of them are going to be in
- 24:14Speaker 8: Day three of the draft. So that's why, you know,
- 24:17Speaker 8: it's like there was a run on corners. You know,
- 24:21Speaker 8: let's let's double down at the at the interior defensive
- 24:25Speaker 8: tackle position. That's an area that we need to address.
- 24:29Speaker 8: So I have no problem with them doing that, and
- 24:31Speaker 8: I do think they will attack that cornerback position. And
- 24:36Speaker 8: then after that, it's like, okay, well we do we
- 24:39Speaker 8: double down at the offensive tackle position? Do we address
- 24:42Speaker 8: the interior the offensive line? When you're talking a round six,
- 24:47Speaker 8: four through through six, you're looking at nineteen, nineteen and twenty,
- 24:53Speaker 8: you know, candidates in those rounds.
- 24:54Speaker 1: So it's a deep draft.
- 24:56Speaker 8: I mean, there's not you know, in my mind there
- 25:00Speaker 8: it's been talking to people around the league. There's not
- 25:03Speaker 8: a big difference in pick seventy to pick one hundred
- 25:07Speaker 8: and fifty with a lot of people. I mean, there
- 25:09Speaker 8: are a lot of teams around the league have similar grades.
- 25:11Speaker 8: It's not like there's a huge disparity of a major
- 25:14Speaker 8: drop off you know.
- 25:16Speaker 1: From from an eighty pick.
- 25:18Speaker 8: Scenario in this in this draft, so you know that
- 25:21Speaker 8: that goes well. I do think some of the position
- 25:24Speaker 8: groups that the Bengals will address and double down on
- 25:27Speaker 8: there there's death in those rounds and and uh, you know,
- 25:30Speaker 8: tej Christian zad is a great example. He's a seventh
- 25:34Speaker 8: round pick. Look at how his career turned out.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Excellent call on interior offensive lineman. I think there will
- 25:40Speaker 2: definitely be at least one of those guys selected as well.
- 25:44Speaker 2: It's after midnight. You've been talking for a long time tonight.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I appreciate you spending a few minutes with us, and
