- 2:31ESPN acquires the rights to the NFL Network.
- 2:35Late Tuesday night, a long rumored deal was announced
- 2:39between the NFL and ESPN where the Disney owned company will
- 2:46acquire the rights to the NFL Media rights, the NFL Network
- 2:50and the Red Zone Channel. The NFL receives a 10% equity
- 2:56stake in ESPN. In return, this deal is
- 2:59subjected to NFL owner approval. The NFL will keep ownership
- 3:05rights to NFL Films, NFL.com, NFL Plus and other media
- 3:11platforms, but ESPN will take over control of most of
- 3:16everything else in their portfolio.
- 3:19ESPN will take over the NFL Network studio lease in LA after
- 3:24they close their own LA studios recently.
- 3:29ESPN will now air a total of 28 NFL games per season, with the
- 3:34NFL Network serving as an alternate stream for ESPN games
- 3:39along with their usual slate of seven live games for the up
- 3:45upcoming season. NFL Draft coverage will now be
- 3:49available on Disney Plus and Hulu, as well as the NFL Live
- 3:55coverage and College Game Day from regular ESPN programming.
- 3:59ESPN is planning a direct to consumer streaming option to
- 4:06launch on August 21st, which will now include the NFL content
- 4:12as well as recently acquired WWE content including WrestleMania
- 4:17and other premium live events. Well, ESP NS making moves,
- 4:23ladies and gentlemen, they're making lots and lots of moves.
- 4:27And one of the main reasons why I think ESPN is making moves is
- 4:31because of the acquisition of Pat McAfee.
- 4:35Pat McAfee right now in his show when it comes to football is one
- 4:39of the biggest. It's the one of the biggest
- 4:41draws. And what Pat McAfee does, nobody
- 4:45does when it comes to the NFL. And that's draw fans from other
- 4:50sporting companies to come and watch his NFL takes.
- 4:54And now that Pat McAfee has been center stage on practically
- 4:59every single NFLMLB and basketball awards show, yes,
- 5:04ladies and gentlemen, anything ESPN has touched, Pat McAfee has
- 5:09been involved with. And now that the NFL is now
- 5:13fully covered by ESPN, it only helps the stakes of the money
- 5:18they invested into it because of Pat McAfee.
- 5:22I know everybody's going to say, well, Pat McAfee, there's just
- 5:25one man. But here's the thing.
- 5:27The NFL is the biggest watch sport when it comes to the
- 5:31United States. It's not European football over
- 5:35there in Europe, it's not. But what the NFL brings to the
- 5:39table is Fannie's watching it and Fannie's in the seats.
- 5:44You're talking about 80,000 people that are go to NFL
- 5:48football games and when you don't want to spend the money
- 5:51for a ticket or the sausages that Speedy likes to eat, ladies
- 5:54and gentlemen, they get a chance to sit in front of the TV and
- 5:58all now they have to do is pop on Disney Plus or Hulu to get a
- 6:04game. And to me that is what sells to
- 6:08fans. So what does that do for Disney
- 6:10Plus? Well, they can raise the money.
- 6:12They can raise the price of Disney Plus.
- 6:14They can raise the price when it comes to Hulu because now they
- 6:18have all this NFL coverage and now WWE coverage as sports
- 6:24entertainment is growing as it always is year in and year out.
- 6:30And now that Triple H is running the organization of the WWE and
- 6:33Triple H is trying to spin the wheel, make the deal, something
- 6:36Vince McMahon put a hold on over the I would say 10 year span
- 6:41that everything was dying out when it came to their coverage.
- 6:45Now they're center stage on an ESPN channel.
- 6:49I also think if you look at the MMA situation, ESPN had the MMA
- 6:56coverage. The coverage now and and ESP NS
- 7:00contract with MMA and UFC is over.
- 7:04They didn't re sign with the UFC as far as I know.
- 7:07And I think the reason why they didn't sign with the UFC is
- 7:11because the UFC is not the NFL and the UFC as big as it is, is
- 7:16not the WWE. What ESP NS trying to do right
- 7:20now is bring more eyes to their product, sell their product to
- 7:25not just sports fans, but sports entertainment fans as I've heard
- 7:31over the last couple of weeks. Them hire non sports analysts,
- 7:35people that have huge followings all over social media.
- 7:40Is this good for sports media? Is this good for ESPN in the
- 7:44long run? Only time will tell.
- 7:47If you ask AI they'll give you reasons why it won't work.
- 7:51Now I am not a director, I am not an owner and I am not ACEO
- 7:56or CFO of any company. As far as what I'm concerned I'm
- 8:01Co founder of Jabba in the mouth.
- 8:04But I do know this and I'm not here to burn bridges with ESPN.
- 8:09That's not what I'm trying to do here.
- 8:12What I do know is when you see something like this and, and a
- 8:17company, one company going out there and reaching and buying
- 8:21other companies and they're obviously TV deals and, and
- 8:26drawing their product to their product.
- 8:29It tells me that they want to get bigger.
- 8:32They want to boost. And their product, obviously
- 8:36over the last couple of years has not been up to par.
- 8:39It it, it's a fact. If you look at numbers, it
- 8:41hasn't been so ESP NS doing the smart thing.
- 8:45Their own obviously their CEO and CFO and their chairman knows
- 8:49what he's doing. He knows what WWE brings to the
- 8:52table. He knows what the NFL brings to
- 8:54the table and he knows that the NFL Network was dying because of
- 9:00their coverage when it came to over the last couple of years
- 9:04when it came to their product. Now again, I I am not ACEO or
- 9:10CFOI don't know why the NFL agreed to this deal unless they
- 9:14were getting something under the table or getting more money
- 9:17under the table. Again, I don't know and I'm not
- 9:20I'm not going to drop any accusations that I don't know.
- 9:23What I do know is ESPN now is one of the biggest organizations
- 9:27when it comes to professional TV and sports.
- 9:31That's what it is. You don't want to believe it.
- 9:33Fans or not, there are a lot of people that I know are not drawn
- 9:36to ESPN. They're not big ESPN fans.
- 9:38I always was. I loved ESPN.
- 9:41I've always loved ESPN. I follow.
- 9:44I've been following him since I was a kid.
- 9:46Chris Berman was my favorite, Dan Patrick was my other.
- 9:51So I've always stuck behind ESPN, but over the years they're
- 9:56broadcasting and their coverage of Monday Night Football, let's
- 10:00be honest, has not been good. It really hasn't been.
- 10:04And now that the NFL has decided to work hand in hand with ESPN,
- 10:09does it help their product? Well, you got 2 multi billion
- 10:12dollar organizations willing to work with one another and build
- 10:16something that obviously has not taken off the way they they
- 10:20thought it would over the last couple of years.
- 10:23Now, the NFL is still growing. They, they made seven, if I'm
- 10:27not mistaken, $17 billion last year with ticket sales and, and
- 10:31all the different stuff that they sell during the year.
- 10:34When it comes to jersey hats and all the other stuff that they
- 10:37sell, they're making tons and tons.
- 10:39They're printing money. ESPN wants a piece of that.
- 10:43And why? Because ESPN believes that
- 10:46putting in at the NFL Network in the WWEWWE center stage on their
- 10:51product, it could take their product to levels they have not
- 10:55been to. And that to me, is the
- 10:58difference here. I think that the NFL understands
- 11:02likely that they go to band together and I I think other
- 11:05organizations are going to do the same as well.
- 11:08You look at DraftKings and FanDuel, they're competing
- 11:11against one another. Eventually they're going to want
- 11:14to compete against ESPN and they want to want to compete against
- 11:17those other organizations. Prime is coming out with their
- 11:20own sports organization and, and, and sports, you know,
- 11:23sports radio and sports television.
- 11:25So Prime is a multi billion dollar organization.
- 11:27Jeff Bezos is one of the richest men in the world.
- 11:30So Jeff is competing against now the NFL combined with ESPN.
- 11:36Is this good for media? I would say yes.
- 11:40I think this is great for media. I think it's great for the
- 11:43sports coverage. The question is how much is it
- 11:46going to cost to obviously get the app?
- 11:50What is Disney going to charge to get a chance to watch their
- 11:54favorite their their their favorite NFL shows or their
- 11:59their favorite games? Because now the consumer is
- 12:04Disney Plus and Hulu, that's where the consumer is going to
- 12:07go and check out their their games and their being fans of
- 12:12their teams where they're not going to be able to find the
- 12:14games or they're not going to be able to spend the money for the
- 12:16games. They're going to have to go and
- 12:18obviously buy the app to watch WrestleMania because I mean, WWE
- 12:24had their own app, right? It was the the WWE app.
- 12:27Now you're I don't know for sure.
- 12:29I don't know the exact you know specs here but is the WWE have
- 12:34an app now now that they signed a contract with ESPN?
- 12:39I don't know. It's it's also different to like
- 12:41there's only going to be some shows that are on ESPN.
- 12:44Yeah, but then you have other programs of WWE like Smackdown,
- 12:49NXT, all the other stuff that are on different conglomerates,
- 12:52right? Like they they're on Peacock and
- 12:53everything. So like if you're a wrestling
- 12:55fan and all the other stuff, you're going to have like 3
- 12:56different just to watch your wrestling.
- 12:59And it's money because you got to pay for Peacock, you got to
- 13:03pay for Hulu and Disney. And that that to me.
- 13:07And there's a lot of families that don't have a lot of money.
- 13:09They make ends meet and, and again, that keeps me from going
- 13:14to a, a football game or going to a baseball game now or going
- 13:18to a wrestling match. Why am I going to go and spend
- 13:20double the amount when I could just go and buy the app and, and
- 13:24watch the games on the apps? I, I, I don't want to spend
- 13:28five, $600.00. I'll spend a little bit more and
- 13:31not have to do that. And that's why a lot of fans
- 13:33like me, I don't go to games anymore as much as I used to.
- 13:36And one of the main reasons why it's too expensive, it's way too
- 13:39expensive. If you want to buy a jersey at a
- 13:43baseball game, you want to go to Citi Field and buy jersey.
- 13:46They're almost 200 dollars, $200.
- 13:49They're not even authentic jerseys, the replicas.
- 13:53Just think about it, that's the problem.
- 13:57Think about this too. They're like that's let's that's
- 13:59like getting extra stuff like if you just go to the game,
- 14:01tickets, parking, whatever. I mean, that's a $500.00 bill
- 14:05and that's that's basic. That's probably an OK seat, not
- 14:09like above the dugout or 50 yard line or whatever.
- 14:12Like that's a $500.00 bill. Like just to go to a game like
- 14:17that's not getting a jersey souvenir cup.
- 14:19That's probably 12 bucks. I mean, that's just tough for
- 14:22like, you know, families in in situations where damn, if you
- 14:26plan it well enough, that could almost be a vacation, let alone
- 14:30just three hours of watching your favorite player or what
- 14:33have you. It's just man, it's, it's crazy.
- 14:36It's just how much? It's a smart, it's a smart
- 14:38business plan for ESPN, right? It's a great business plan for
- 14:42ESPN. Knock it out of the park for all
- 14:44the ESPN people listening to the show right now.
- 14:47Home run, absolute home run. Now you have the NFL coverage
- 14:51right into your fingertips and the WWE, who's better than you
- 14:55guys? The only problem here is the
- 14:56consumer, the person, the people that can't afford it.
- 15:00Now, if they're, if they raise the stake of the app and you
- 15:03have to go and spend, I don't know, $40 a month to get the
- 15:08app, Am I buying the app if I don't have the money?
- 15:10Because now I got to pay, I got to pay for Peacock.
- 15:13Peacock for a month, I think is $15.
- 15:15Now you're paying $40.00 for Disney Plus or Hulu.
- 15:20That's $40. And I don't know how they're
- 15:22going to work that out. And again, we don't know this is
- 15:25this just happened. Are they going to negotiate a
- 15:28deal where you're going to have to spend a little bit more on
- 15:30the app to get the football coverage?
- 15:33You could get the app for 799 or 10, $10.00, but you're not going
- 15:36to get the football coverage unless you pay a little bit
- 15:38extra. I don't know how the NFL and
- 15:41ESPN are going to settle this deal and and it where it makes
- 15:45sense, but it's an interesting story.
- 15:47It really is when you're trying to find something to talk about,
- 15:51ESPN is trying to take their product to the next level.
- 15:54I respect the company for what they're doing.
- 15:57I'm not going to overload and tell them they're stupid.
- 16:00They're a smart organization. They have money behind them.
- 16:03They got Disney behind them and they got some of the best
- 16:05executives behind them when it comes to making moves like this.
- 16:09The only thing that worries me for the consumer is how are they
- 16:12going to afford it if they boost up prices or the consumer saying
- 16:17to themselves, why? If I'm going to spend money to
- 16:22watch, I don't know, something on Peacock, am I really going to
- 16:26dig deep into my pockets? When I got I got a kids to, you
- 16:29know, kids to buy sneakers for for the school year or books or
- 16:34I'm going to private that my kids are going to private
- 16:36school. I got to pay for their, their
- 16:37their jackets or something of books or something like that.
- 16:40Am I going to dig into my pockets to pay for an app that I
- 16:43can't afford? Yeah, that's what's difficult I
- 16:45think with the NFL too, is because it's 16 games, it's one
- 16:49game a week. It's not like you could get a
- 16:51team package or like you can get like the local packages with the
- 16:54TV networks that we've seen fall apart in baseball and the NBA
- 16:57recently. It's one of those things where
- 16:59you want to you wait for those kinds of games to come and it's
- 17:03right there for you. Unless it was like the NFL
- 17:06Network, like late season Thursday or Saturday games where
- 17:09you only need an NFL Network in like 2006 or something like
- 17:11that. Like that's the kind of thing
- 17:13that makes it difficult. And again, these networks should
- 17:16not be able to should be able to take that over to an extent
- 17:19where you have Fox and CBS that are still very strong with
- 17:22football. I wonder if also the perspective
- 17:25on ESPN is from the fact that college football has also gained
- 17:29a lot of traction on their network.
- 17:30Maybe they want to combine that kind of things.
- 17:32Pat McAfee, as much as I like to bash him too for some of his
- 17:34craziness, I think he actually did very well when he did the
- 17:37College Football Playoff coverage and bringing a lot of
- 17:39the fire. Pat.
- 17:39McAfee is involved with everything.
- 17:41I know he's involved with the WWE, he's involved with the NFL,
- 17:45he's involved with college football.
- 17:48The man's involved with everything and ESPN loves it.
- 17:51This deal was really mainly the fact that they made that move to
- 17:55bring in Pat McAfee. Now Pat Mcafee's right smack in
- 17:59the middle, one of the biggest shows when it comes to football.
- 18:03And right now for ESPN, they brought Pat McAfee in because of
- 18:07his fans and and the consumer. They wanted to draw more fans to
- 18:11their product. And now that you have the NFL
- 18:13and the WWE, that has a tremendous amount of fun
- 18:16followers that takes their company to the next level.
- 18:19I think that's what's selling to the ESPN and the ESPN family on
- 18:24why they made this move. The question is going back to
- 18:27what everybody has been saying and what I've been reading is
- 18:31does this help the consumer? Does this actually put the
- 18:35consumer in the driver's seat if they want to buy the product
- 18:39now? And I, I'm reading Merck.
- 18:41Merck's so saucy right over here on, you know, he's posting up.
- 18:45Well, if you, if you got cable or Sling or YouTube TV, you get
- 18:50everything for free. I don't know if that's possible
- 18:52anymore. Do the NFL now?
- 18:55Does ESPN have the rights to the NFL where you can?
- 18:59Take it off of those. Yeah, To take it off of those
- 19:01things. Where you can't watch it on that
- 19:02anymore. And there's already been
- 19:04problems with UTTV. My brother has it and they can
- 19:06says like each the last three years, they've increased the
- 19:08prices and a lot of glitches in a lot of the billing systems
- 19:11too. So it's going to make it very
- 19:12complicated as it is. Not to mention ESPN has an
- 19:15expansive bit in their own because like you said, they're
- 19:17owned by ABC. There's Disney, there's Hulu,
- 19:19ABC, like they're all these companies coming together and
- 19:23they're trying to make their content available there, which
- 19:25go back to what I was saying about like that they want to
- 19:26make it their own type of individual content.
- 19:29The that's why I'm saying like the NBA in college, like there's
- 19:31all these individual shows within it.
- 19:33Obviously the NFL has the Manning cast, but besides that
- 19:35they don't have those types of NFL type products.
- 19:38They have their NFL shows that air on ESPN.
- 19:40That's another thing the ESPN family has the Manning, Manning
- 19:44coverage and that's good for the Manning coverage because now
- 19:47what are they going to do with the Manning coverage?
- 19:48Well, they're going to put them center stage on the app Disney
- 19:52app now with the games are going to be featured all on the
- 19:57Disney. So, well, you got to remember
- 19:59those two, the Mannings too, like they have not only like
- 20:02their own production company, but they, they produce like 3 or
- 20:054 shows on ESPN plus for their little segments that they do.
- 20:10And it's crazy like, and I have YouTube TV as well.
- 20:13One of the reasons I got it originally was because of MLB
- 20:15Network. And then MLB Network was like
- 20:17doing exactly what is like why people are going to buy MLB
- 20:20package? Like let's create the app and do
- 20:23that. But Speedy, you brought up
- 20:24something I want to ask you guys about like when you were talking
- 20:27about, I know the Big 10 does this.
- 20:29I don't know other conferences. But you, you brought up
- 20:32something that's interesting. Do you think it could ever get
- 20:35to a point where, OK, Errol, you're a Jets fan, right?
- 20:39Where you can buy a package that is just Jets games because like
- 20:43a Big 10, you can pick, you can have the whole Big 10 conference
- 20:47or you can just pick Nebraska for what?
- 20:49For their sports, like do you think it could ever get to that
- 20:52where it's just you pick your team?
- 20:55Here, here's the thing. If you live in New York, you're
- 20:58going to get The Jets games on CBS.
- 21:00They own the rights to the Jet games.
- 21:01All the AFC East games are. If you live in Miami, you're
- 21:06going to get all the Dolphin games.
- 21:08Now I don't know what this contract is and how this
- 21:11contract is going to work, but maybe with the way the NFL is
- 21:16working it, do they have a contract now that after CBS is
- 21:21done with the AFC East, maybe the contract will start to
- 21:26entwine into the ESPN app where you can't watch the jet games
- 21:30unless you buy the app. I don't know what this contract
- 21:35really lies until we read it. All we know right now is that
- 21:39ESPN and the NFL Network are working together and so is the
- 21:42WWE. Now, the specs of the contract
- 21:45obviously will come out probably in more depth as the season
- 21:50progressively moves forward. I just what bothers me here, and
- 21:53I understand what you're saying, Jabba.
- 21:55Maybe it does. Maybe there is a way where you
- 21:57get all The Jets coverage on the app and you can find The Jets
- 22:00coverage on the app that way. Or the Giants coverage or the
- 22:03Miami Dolphins coverage or the Arizona Cardinals coverage if
- 22:07you're an Arizona Cardinals fan. So I, I, I, I'm sure there'll be
- 22:11something on that app there. They're going to definitively
- 22:14put together where it helps the fan out, where they can find
- 22:18their teams and what they're they're talking when it comes to
- 22:21the coverage of their teams. What bothers me here, and I will
- 22:24say this, and I know Fish is going to come in and he's going
- 22:26to have his own thoughts to this.
- 22:28What bothers me here is the the to me, I'm a consumer.
- 22:33I'm a guy that buys different stuff for the NFLI.
- 22:36I'm a radio show host, so I have to watch my NFL games.
- 22:41So do I dig deep into my pockets And if if these prices go up on
- 22:47Disney Plus and know that all I got to do now, and here's a
- 22:51here's another thing I never even thought of talk about these
- 22:55bars, these sports bars, they spend so much money.
- 22:59They pay now you're paying for each television now.
- 23:03How does that work? Do you have to buy the app for
- 23:06each television and if you if so, how is that going to be
- 23:10affordable? How does that work in the
- 23:12business? Technically in some states it's
- 23:14illegal to stream. Like you have to have cable.
- 23:16Like they're getting away from it now.
- 23:19And obviously being in the business for as long as I have,
- 23:22it was literally like that's a huge fine if you were streaming,
- 23:25but now there's so many things that stream that as a sports bar
- 23:29and and now it's like if you want to get it, it's like, OK,
- 23:32now they're now they're some of them are some of them aren't
- 23:35having like the commercial side of it, right, and the
- 23:37residential side. But I mean, there's still people
- 23:41that are, I mean, for lack of a better term, this is this goes
- 23:44back old school. When you you know, you're
- 23:45stealing music, you were pirating it.
- 23:47Like there's some people that still use their sign in from
- 23:50home Napster, but you only get you only get Napster for sure.
- 23:53Every every virus that you could get was on your parents computer
- 23:57for sure. But then they're using their
- 24:01home one. But then you can only get it on
- 24:02three or four screens, maybe 5 at the most, right.
- 24:05So it's still happening. But that's a great point.
- 24:08Like what do we do as business owners where it's like, OK, make
- 24:13a call and be like, Hey, we have to get this to cover the games,
- 24:16to bring people to put butts in seats.
- 24:19Because when we get cable or like when you get a pay-per-view
- 24:21fight, some states are per TV, some states are capacity.
- 24:26It's just everything is kind of different.
- 24:28So now you're kind of up shit's Creek with no paddle because you
- 24:31don't know which way to go. I think that's and it just, it
- 24:34stinks. That's definitely Jabba.
- 24:36Let me ask you answer your question about the the
- 24:38conference. The Jets thing too, like you
- 24:40said before college football, I think it's a little different.
- 24:42You were talking about the Big 10.
- 24:43Like I think the conference has a lot of power into that.
- 24:46You talk about how big the SEC Network has grown, how big, like
- 24:49you said, the Big 10 now with their recent deal last year grew
- 24:52with CBS and also still being partnered with Fox too.
- 24:54Like I think I don't know if you have that kind of thing in the
- 24:57NFL the same way like each division doesn't have their own
- 24:59network. Like it just based on local TV
- 25:01things like we get Jets and Giants coverage here.
- 25:04Like CBS 2 has their own Jets content on CBS on that kind of
- 25:08thing. The Giants have that kind of
- 25:09thing on MSGI. Think there's still a little bit
- 25:11of a factor that where I don't know if you have as much of A
- 25:13market to do that kind of thing as much the same way you would
- 25:16in college football with all the conferences.
- 25:18Yeah, and that's true because Texas stayed in the Big 12
- 25:21because they had the Longhorn Network, and that's why
- 25:23everybody left, because they didn't want to compete.
- 25:24Correct. And the Big 12 is hurt by that
- 25:26too, because I was talking, mentioning to Jake in the in the
- 25:29private chat realignment, they've lost a lot of teams
- 25:31between the 2012 realignment, losing A&M in Missouri and then
- 25:35the recent one too, losing Oklahoma and Texas and then
- 25:37gaining some other teams. They just don't have enough
- 25:39consistency of who's in the conference to really do that
- 25:41kind of thing. Yeah, that all that stuff's
- 25:44going to be over. Like to me it's a very simple
- 25:48thing. What's better technology, wired
- 25:51headphones or wireless headphones?
- 25:55Wireless. Let me ask you another question.
- 25:58Would you rather have cable that you have to install and put into
- 26:02the earth and have all this difficult procedure the next
- 26:05time you have to update the cable wires?
- 26:07Or would you just do it digitally and streaming because
- 26:10it's so much easier and and tech not the better technology
- 26:13throughout the history of mankind always wins out.
- 26:16Whether we're talking about the whoever won the war had the
- 26:18better technology. We're talking about whoever had
- 26:21the best analytics or whatever is going to be at the top or
- 26:24close to the top every time. You need to understand that it's
- 26:28going to be streaming no matter what.
- 26:30Streaming is going to win. If they haven't already put a
- 26:34stranglehold on cable, it's all but over.
- 26:36Just look at James Dolan. James Dolan is attacking Adam
- 26:39Silver because James Dolan knows Adam Silver is coming for his
- 26:43MSG money because not MSG the place, MSG the network because
- 26:47just like the Longhorn Network you guys are talking about, it's
- 26:50a the big cash cow in the tri-state area.
- 26:53And MSG also has affiliates up in in Buffalo and they and like
- 26:56their games are on MSG up there too.
- 26:59And they're huge business. It's going to be gone because of
- 27:03streaming. And those guys that own those
- 27:06networks are fighting back. They used to be the big fish on
- 27:09campus, and now they're being dwarfed by all these other guys
- 27:13who are like, oh, yeah, we couldn't stand the MSG Network.
- 27:15We couldn't do what they did. Let's join up with US, ESPN.
- 27:19And you're seeing all these places merged together and
- 27:21you're seeing the streamings merged together from the with
- 27:24the former WWE Network to Peacock, now to Netflix and over
- 27:29now to this new ESPN app. It's just going to be bundles of
- 27:34things and you can pick what you want and what you don't want to
- 27:37pay for. The problem becomes, is it going
- 27:41to just be another version of cable?
- 27:42It probably will be, but you're going to have to decide.
- 27:46Cable or streaming, and a lot of people don't like to do that
- 27:50yet. So we're still kind of at that
- 27:51crossroads. Also also, the older people,
- 27:54they don't know how to use computers, They don't know how
- 27:57to use their phones. I how many people that I've
- 28:00spoken about our show, How do I find you guys?
- 28:02What channel are you guys on? I'm like, we're not on a.
- 28:04Channel, it's, you know how it is in this business, though.
- 28:07In 10 years they're going to be in the demographic that nobody
- 28:09cares about. We're dead.
- 28:13Let's just. Face well, everything is run
- 28:14through streaming anyways when you're in a car now if if you
- 28:17have a Tesla or whatever you have now it, you don't even use
- 28:20the radio. And I think FM dials are going
- 28:23to, I mean AM dials eventually are going to be obsolete.
- 28:26It's just going to be FM. And FM is so expensive.
- 28:29Go ask ESPN. They couldn't stay on the FM
- 28:31dial. They had to move back to AM.
- 28:33So it's not cheap. And again, with streaming and
- 28:37what you can do with streaming and and broadcasting as we are
- 28:40right now, you can listen to us anywhere in the world.
- 28:43You could be in the London, England, or you could be in New
- 28:47Zealand right now. It's 1:00 AM in the morning and
- 28:50you're going to sit here if you want to hear Jabba the Mouth,
- 28:52you can hear us live by streaming us.
- 28:55So there are other ways now where it's beneficial for these
- 28:59organizations to band together, but is it beneficial for the
- 29:03consumer? That is the problem.
- 29:06That's where I'm looking at it and I'm not taking shots at
- 29:08ESPN. Again, if we have ESPN people
- 29:11listening to us, and I'm sure we do, I'm not taking shots at what
- 29:15ESPN is doing. I think it's a great move for
- 29:17them. It's a it's a power move for
- 29:19ESPN. The only problem here is, are
- 29:23they looking out for the money that's going into their pockets?
- 29:27Are they looking out for the consumer?
- 29:29That is where my argument and I'm a consumer.
- 29:33So I'm out there and I'm going to go spend the money as I do
- 29:36all the time. I just bought $1000 mic for our
- 29:39show, which will be in for next week.
- 29:41I'm always looking to upgrade everything.
- 29:44That's what a buyer is going to do.
- 29:48You want to upgrade? I'm a DJI, wanted to upgrade my
- 29:51speakers. So I went from a beautiful EV10,
- 29:55you know, 12 inch speaker to a 15 inch Mackie brand new
- 29:59speaker. Why did I do that?
- 30:01Sound preference B, you know, pop everything.
- 30:05There's, there's always something that sticks out from
- 30:09the the other thing that you can buy into.
- 30:11So to me, I, I'm, I'm going back to this and I and I want to make
- 30:16it clear here, I'm not taking shots at any organization trying
- 30:20to make their product better. What I'm doing now is looking
- 30:25out for my consumer friends that are out there that are sports
- 30:29fans trying to, you know, watch their football games, watch
- 30:34their basketball games, watch their baseball games and they
- 30:37can't because they can't afford it.
- 30:39That is the problem here. And I hope, I hope ESPN and, and
- 30:44the NFL understands what I'm trying to say here.
- 30:46If you're, if you're going to put this and you're going to put
- 30:48this in your, you know, in your dial or on your dial for dial it
- 30:53up. If you want to dial it up, well,
- 30:56ladies and gentlemen, here's what you dial.
- 30:58Make sure that when you decide how this is going to work, make
- 31:02sure you're doing it to help your product grow and make sure
- 31:06that the consumer can buy it. If the consumer can buy it, it's
- 31:09only going to make you more richer and it's going to drive
- 31:12people to want to buy your app. That's what I'm going to say
- 31:16about that. That's where I'm throwing off
- 31:18with it. You know, with obviously we all
- 31:20know I was at a summit recently, about a year and a half ago, and
- 31:23the one thing I learned in the summit is guess what?
- 31:26Corporation after corporation are dying.
- 31:29Why are they dying? Because they can't afford to
- 31:31keep, you know, keep defending or competing against a bigger
- 31:37corporation. So what are they doing?
- 31:39They're banding together. So what ESPN is doing right now
- 31:42is they're banding with a media conglomerate, a big media
- 31:45conglomerate like the NFL, and they want to be a powerhouse
- 31:49with the WWEI think it's a smart move.
- 31:51But here's the thing I don't understand.
- 31:54Isn't the the MMAUFC and the WWE owned by the same organization?
- 32:02Isn't that true? Say it one more time, WWEUF.
- 32:06C The UFC and the WWE are owned by the same organization.
- 32:11Right. TKO So here's my question if if
- 32:15ESPN bought into WWE, why don't they buy back into the UFC?
- 32:20That's my question because, well, that's how it is now.
- 32:23Like you have the parents company, other companies, the
- 32:26same company. It's not, it is and it isn't
- 32:28right. Like they're bought.
- 32:30These parent companies own the you know, these are this is the
- 32:33swamp you hear about all the time, these people that are from
- 32:36behind the scenes and these companies that are these
- 32:38alphabet soup names that you've never heard of that actually own
- 32:41all the places you've you listen to like they're all owned by
- 32:45things like Disney's owned by somebody, you know, like all
- 32:47these places are in these huge groups of these powerful multi
- 32:52multi billionaire type people. And to me, like it's they're not
- 32:57going to look out for the. Consumer, but it doesn't make
- 32:58any sense. They're not.
- 33:00It doesn't make any sense. Because it's about making money.
- 33:02It's just about making money. And they see that this is the
- 33:05way to monetize the new technology and they're just
- 33:08trying to get a jump on it. WWE has always pioneered new
- 33:11technology. And I've with with the app, they
- 33:13were the first people with like a streaming app like that with
- 33:17their catalog on it. They did that in like 2018-2019.
- 33:20They abandoned it and went to Peacock because it was just the
- 33:22smarter move to do, because that's the way.
- 33:24They couldn't afford it. They couldn't afford it.
- 33:26Well, it's not even that. It's just, it's just live apps.
- 33:28Apps are very expensive to keep up with well.
- 33:31But seven years ago, nobody had done it before and they did it
- 33:34and then they moved to Peacock and that was a big deal when
- 33:36they did it. And now they're doing, they did
- 33:38next. Netflix.
- 33:39That was a big deal. Live TV on Netflix.
- 33:41It's one of their top, it's Netflix's top show every week it
- 33:45is. And guess what?
- 33:47Now they're doing the same thing with ESPN.
- 33:49ESPN is not stupid. WWE is really smart.
- 33:52They're run by smart people. I don't think this is a mistake.
- 33:55If it was just as advantageous to buy UFC, they would have done
- 33:58it. Well, it didn't.
- 33:59Work, I think they think. So it didn't work I.
- 34:01Don't think they think so the. UFC, The UFC on ESPN did not
- 34:05work. It did not work.
- 34:07Saturday night fights, what they were trying to promote did not
- 34:10work. And they tried to put big fights
- 34:13on for free on Saturday nights. It just didn't work.
- 34:16It didn't draw. So now they're going to the WWE.
- 34:19And I understand sports entertainment is very, very big.
- 34:22And at what Triple H is really provided to the fan and the
- 34:25consumer is he wants to story. He wants the storytelling to be
- 34:29a little bit different and more interesting for the fan to to
- 34:32drive to. That's fine.
- 34:33That's great. And I, I respect Triple H for
- 34:35what he's doing. But here's the problem when you
- 34:38when you look at these media conglomerates, like obviously
- 34:42guys like Jake, Jake Paul and and the Paul family, look what
- 34:47the Paul family has done over the last couple of years that
- 34:50have made them almost billions of dollars.
- 34:53And they used their product. They used it by streaming on
- 34:58YouTube, dominating on YouTube to take their product product
- 35:02and turn it into a boxing sensation for pay-per-view
- 35:06fights and marketing and becoming promoters, which then
- 35:09translated into ways where they can promote through soft drinks
- 35:13and all the different advertisements or companies that
- 35:17they own to turn it into millions and millions of
- 35:20dollars. They're they're meeting.
- 35:22This is what marketing is now. This is the way marketing has
- 35:26transition. I think ESPN is doing that with
- 35:28NF at the NFL and and that why they decided to bring the WWE
- 35:32in. But is it going to work?
- 35:34It didn't work with the UFC. Is this going to work?
- 35:37They're bigger companies. They are ESPN is big with the
- 35:42NFL connected to them and now the WWE.
- 35:46But is it going to work when you have fans like this kid over
- 35:49here or fans like you that are WWE fans that are going to have
- 35:52to now buy, buy certain things to get their regular, you know,
- 35:57the regular fights or, or go up. You have to buy Peacock to get
- 36:01Smackdown or Netflix to get Raw, whatever the hell it is.
- 36:05You're going to have to spend money in all different
- 36:07directions where you just want to spend money in one like
- 36:11cable, which has been really dominant over the last, I don't
- 36:14know, 100 years. So it's, it's an interesting
- 36:17story. It's definitely something that
- 36:20I'm interested to see how it's going to work when the NFL
- 36:23season starts. And if you're an NFL buyer, when
- 36:27it comes to going out there and wanting to see all the games
- 36:30every single week, you're, are you good?
- 36:33Is it going to work for you? 2 TV.
- 36:34Do they have an exclusive contract with the NFL where you
- 36:38can actually still buy it on Sling or YouTube TV or get it
- 36:41for free? I don't know.
- 36:43So that that is something that we're going to have to see on
- 36:47how this is going to work now that these contracts are pretty
- 36:50much signed and deliver, I guess almost it's not yet, but it it's
- 36:53going to hopefully be agreed. Well, not hopefully, but
- 36:56whatever. Hope you know, in in some some
- 36:59way being agreed in the next couple of weeks.
- 37:01So it's interesting. We're waiting to see if the NFL
- 37:05owners approve to this. I'm sure they will if they're
- 37:07going to make a ton of money on top of it.
- 37:09It's all about money to these owners as well as the players.
- 37:12And does this help the players with their new, new contracts?
- 37:16So that's something that I'd like to see too.
- 37:18How it how does it work for the players union and how much money
- 37:21do they make extra? And maybe the cap goes up for
- 37:24these teams in the future being that ESPN and the NFL are now
- 37:28working together. So interesting, interesting
- 37:30story. And now, ladies and gentlemen,
- 37:33my deuce of the day. The deuce of the day you log.
- 37:37Not a log. I don't have a log but.
- 37:47All right, my deuce of the day goes to no other than the one
- 37:51and only Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones didn't respond to
- 37:56Micah Parsons trade request, but guess who did?
- 37:59Dak Prescott did as the Cowboy quarterback to the Cowboy
- 38:05leading rusher. When Micah Parsons announced his
- 38:09request for the Dallas Cowboys to trade him, he didn't hear
- 38:12from the team owner or general manager Jerry Jones.
- 38:15But Parsons did hear from his quarterback on Friday.
- 38:19Dak Prescott message was F man, he knows what this that means,
- 38:26Prescott told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday.
- 38:29It wasn't F you Micah or F them. It's more of F this frustrating.
- 38:37This is frustrating for everybody involved.
- 38:40I wanted to say the F word, but I'm not.
- 38:42Prescott and Parsons exchanged messages about the reality of
- 38:47the edge rushers contract negotiations and the
- 38:49quarterbacks support for Parson as both person and player.
- 38:56Prescott twice went through lengthy contract negotiations
- 39:00with Jones and the Cowboys. Not many people, especially
- 39:03here, have been in this position.
- 39:06Prescott figures. So I know what this means.
- 39:10Just support the player. So Jack Prescott coming out and
- 39:14sticking up for his player expects Michael Parsons to get
- 39:18as much as he possibly can. As every player I know if if
- 39:22Jabba was playing in the NFL right now or he was still in the
- 39:25MLB and there was a player on his team expecting big bucks and
- 39:29is not playing until he gets it, I think Jabba would support him.
- 39:33So my juice of the day goes to obviously Dak Prescott sticking
- 39:36up for his player. Everybody saying that Dak
- 39:39Prescott's not a team leader. He's not a good player.
- 39:41He doesn't stand for anything. Well, ladies and gentlemen, he
- 39:44doesn't stand for the toilet bowl or the dump that you crap
- 39:47into it. He stands for the the star in
- 39:50the emblem of the Dallas Cowboys.
- 39:52So that says to me that he is not only just a team player, he
- 39:57is a team owner of what this team is going to be when it
- 40:01comes to money and the players that should be getting it.
- 40:04So he owns up to what he did, what he went through with the
- 40:08Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones over the last couple of years
- 40:11and in the contract disputes. And by the way, Dak Prescott is.
- 40:15The what? Second or third highest paid
- 40:17quarterback right now in the NFL and one of the main reasons why
- 40:20he earned the right to get it, just like any quarterback when
- 40:23the contracts are off. So my juice of the day goes to
- 40:26Dak Prescott speaking for Michael Parsons as Michael
- 40:29Parsons requested a trade to Jerry, Jerry Jones and the
- 40:33Dallas Cowboys. So that's my deuce of the day.
