- 0:00Speaker 1: It's a six man from San Antonio.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Andrew Zimmolfillion for the legendary Craig Way as Craig and
- 0:06Speaker 2: Cameron D. Parker travel today as Texas and Old Miss
- 0:10Speaker 2: get ready to do battle on the hardwood tomorrow. But
- 0:13Speaker 2: don't worry, Craig will be on the show tomorrow. We'll
- 0:16Speaker 2: have him give us an update on how things look and.
- 0:21Speaker 1: How the team looks.
- 0:22Speaker 2: But man, do we have a lot to get into
- 0:26Speaker 2: in today's show.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Of course this hour, we have.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Inconceivable coming up around two thirty four, and I have
- 0:33Speaker 2: a story for you later in the show that feels
- 0:37Speaker 2: inconceivable as well. Joe Lagardy gave an update on his
- 0:43Speaker 2: bracketology earlier today on Twitter.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We'll get into that.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Tray Johnson sec Freshman of the Week and Madison Booker
- 0:51Speaker 2: was the Natesmith Trophy Player of the Week for the
- 0:54Speaker 2: women's side of the things for the Longhorns as well.
- 0:57Speaker 2: So a lot going on on the forty acres. But
- 1:00Speaker 2: the story that has taken the entire sports world by
- 1:05Speaker 2: storm is that Jerry Jones press conference yesterday. Now we're
- 1:09Speaker 2: gonna play it later in the show because I have takes,
- 1:12Speaker 2: I have thoughts, on Sebadiah Jones. I have thoughts on
- 1:18Speaker 2: what the GM and owner of the Dallas Cowboys is
- 1:22Speaker 2: doing to what was once a proud franchise, and what
- 1:27Speaker 2: is going on in dig D Dallas is nothing short
- 1:32Speaker 2: of a dumpster fire. We'll get into all of that.
- 1:36Speaker 2: But there were other coaching hires as well, and some
- 1:40Speaker 2: of them are not getting nearly the conversation that they
- 1:44Speaker 2: should be getting. Okay, So we're gonna get into that
- 1:48Speaker 2: in this hour right now. So yesterday there was announcements
- 1:54Speaker 2: across the board, and this all came to fruition to me.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And this whole idea came because I heard something that
- 2:03Speaker 2: Cameron said last week on the show talking about the
- 2:07Speaker 2: bleakest five years for NFL franchises, and as there was
- 2:12Speaker 2: six head, I was tired. I thought myself, let's go
- 2:15Speaker 2: through some of those bleak franchises because I'm gonna give
- 2:19Speaker 2: Cameron a little bit of hope. I think let's start
- 2:22Speaker 2: here with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Liam Kohane, Okay, he
- 2:28Speaker 2: was hired yesterday. Now, I think the Jaguars in my
- 2:32Speaker 2: lifetime have been one of the more forgettable franchises.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And I was correct.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I looked it up teams with the worst winning percentage
- 2:39Speaker 2: over the last ten years. Jacksonville is Numero uno number
- 2:44Speaker 2: one worst franchise over the last ten years, fifty five
- 2:48Speaker 2: and one to oh nine in that ten year stretch.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And then I said to myself, well, okay, what is
- 2:54Speaker 2: ten years.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Let's go back twenty.
- 2:57Speaker 2: In the last twenty years, the Jacksonville Jaguars have the
- 3:02Speaker 2: second correction, the third worst winning percentage one twenty and
- 3:07Speaker 2: two oh four in a twenty year span. That's a
- 3:10Speaker 2: three seventy winning percentage. The Jacksonville Jaguars have been nothing
- 3:16Speaker 2: short of abysmal. They hope to turn things around with
- 3:20Speaker 2: Liam Cohane. Here, let's play that Jacksonville the community Duvall.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So that caught my attention immediately, right.
- 3:29Speaker 2: So, first off, for those of you not quite sure
- 3:32Speaker 2: what Duvall means, I've had a couple of friends ask me, Hey,
- 3:36Speaker 2: you're a sports guy.
- 3:38Speaker 1: What does that mean, zim? Well, what does Duval mean?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Well, they play Jacksonville plays in Duval County, So when
- 3:44Speaker 2: they do the Duval thing, it is supposed to be
- 3:47Speaker 2: kind of like a shout out to the home home field,
- 3:49Speaker 2: home county of Jacksonville. And the problem is is that
- 3:53Speaker 2: Cohane did it in such a way. It reminded me
- 3:57Speaker 2: of a politician right and reminded me of God, who
- 4:00Speaker 2: is just trying to fit in. It didn't feel it
- 4:04Speaker 2: didn't feel right. And then on top of that, you
- 4:07Speaker 2: have to think he goes in state rival. Now, Jacksonville
- 4:12Speaker 2: and Tampa Bay, by no means are divisional rivals. There
- 4:16Speaker 2: are no means conference rivals. One plays in the NFC,
- 4:19Speaker 2: one plays in the AFC, but they are state rivals.
- 4:23Speaker 2: When you think about the three teams, it's hard to
- 4:25Speaker 2: believe three teams playing in Florida, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, and Miami.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Miami clearly the organization that runs the state. The Dolphins
- 4:32Speaker 2: are the premier franchise, and then it's these other two franchises.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Tampa Bay has won recently, Jacksonville has never won. So
- 4:40Speaker 2: for Cone to leave Tampa Bay to go to Jacksonville,
- 4:44Speaker 2: you would think, Hey, you know, maybe the fans in
- 4:47Speaker 2: Tampa Bay are okay with that. Not so fast, not
- 4:50Speaker 2: exactly thrilled. However, Fox Sports and USA Today ranked the
- 4:55Speaker 2: higher an A minus.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't go that high.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I would say Cone, who is done a good job
- 5:01Speaker 2: in Tampa Bay turning around Baker Mayfield. He's turned Baker
- 5:04Speaker 2: into a very respectable quarterback. When since Baker has gotten
- 5:10Speaker 2: to Tampa Bay, I give the hire a B plus.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I think Jacksonville, if you go through the next five years,
- 5:18Speaker 2: to go off of what Cameron Parker said, they have
- 5:21Speaker 2: of course the belice five years, I'm not going up
- 5:24Speaker 2: and saying that Jacksonville will have the bleakest five years.
- 5:27Speaker 2: They have a top five pick in this year's draft
- 5:30Speaker 2: as well. So let's talk about the Las Vegas Raiders,
- 5:33Speaker 2: who also made a higher my mind, the best higher.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Now the last ten years, the Raiders have been the
- 5:40Speaker 2: eighth worst team in the NFL seventy ninety two. Over
- 5:44Speaker 2: the last twenty years, however, they have done a little
- 5:47Speaker 2: bit better. So I look at it and I say
- 5:50Speaker 2: to myself, why hire Pete Carroll? Why go after a
- 5:56Speaker 2: guy who's seventy two years old, who had struggled in
- 6:00Speaker 2: Seattle in the last couple of years the team had
- 6:04Speaker 2: fallen apart post Legion of Boom. They moved off of
- 6:07Speaker 2: Russell Wilson. He was going to have to go through
- 6:10Speaker 2: an entire rebuilding process in Seattle. So he decides to
- 6:14Speaker 2: go to the front office and then ultimately leave the organization.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Why hire somebody like that, Well, it makes a ton
- 6:22Speaker 2: of sense for the Raiders. This is a franchise that
- 6:25Speaker 2: needs an identity. They need to find an identity, They
- 6:30Speaker 2: need to find what they're going to do well. And
- 6:32Speaker 2: the thing that Pete Carroll has done well wherever he
- 6:35Speaker 2: goes is bring the energy.
- 6:38Speaker 3: With the Raiders and this opportunity. I feel like I've
- 6:41Speaker 3: been there before and I'm going to bank on that
- 6:44Speaker 3: and I'm going to follow my instincts and support with
- 6:48Speaker 3: John and to as we extend to ownership in a
- 6:51Speaker 3: way that we're going to be proud of. I'm so
- 6:56Speaker 3: proud to be part of that and recognizing that we
- 6:58Speaker 3: get to represent are following and here in Las Vegas
- 7:02Speaker 3: to do it in this setting right here where people
- 7:04Speaker 3: can't wait to come see us, they can't wait to
- 7:06Speaker 3: see what we're all about. Wherever our fans come from,
- 7:09Speaker 3: we do want to fill our stadium up with our guys.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I know that we have a good draw for people
- 7:12Speaker 3: from out of time. There you go, there you go.
- 7:16Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about. Hey, Mark settle down a
- 7:19Speaker 3: little bit.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Now, what's funny is that you hear that Raiders in
- 7:23Speaker 2: the background, that's actually Marshawn Lynch. You would wonder how Marshawn,
- 7:27Speaker 2: who is a former Raider, and Pete Carroll, who was
- 7:30Speaker 2: his head coach in Seattle. Maybe the most famous non
- 7:34Speaker 2: call in NFL history was when the Seattle Seahawks goal
- 7:38Speaker 2: line situation with Beast mode decide not to run the ball.
- 7:41Speaker 2: You'd wonder how their relationship is. Clearly it's good enough
- 7:45Speaker 2: for Marshawn to be at the introductory press conference. Pete
- 7:49Speaker 2: Carroll brings energy. He might be seventy two, but he
- 7:51Speaker 2: acts like he's fifty two. He also has a unique
- 7:55Speaker 2: connection to Southern California. And I know, as an NFL
- 7:58Speaker 2: head coach, you're not necessary really having to recruit anymore. However,
- 8:03Speaker 2: it is nice to have a connection to USC, to
- 8:08Speaker 2: Southern California, to some of those players. He Carroll is
- 8:11Speaker 2: still this is the only knock I have on this higher.
- 8:15Speaker 2: According to reports, he was teaching a class on leadership
- 8:19Speaker 2: in football at Southern California. Instead of canceling that class,
- 8:26Speaker 2: they're going to let him continue to teach it through
- 8:28Speaker 2: the spring. That is my only big knock on this higher.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I don't know what Mark Davis is thinking, letting his
- 8:36Speaker 2: head coach also trying to teach a college class on
- 8:39Speaker 2: the side. But if you're a student at USC, are
- 8:42Speaker 2: you even getting real credit? You're learning anything from Carol
- 8:45Speaker 2: teaching a football class. I'm not entirely sure. Let's hear
- 8:49Speaker 2: Mark Davis. Why was this? Why this higher makes sense
- 8:52Speaker 2: for the Raiders from the owner of the Raiders, Pete.
- 8:55Speaker 4: You know, I've watched Pete for a number of years
- 8:56Speaker 4: of watching the USC and where I really.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Watched it with one host in Seattle competing with the
- 9:02Speaker 5: forty nine ers.
- 9:03Speaker 4: And the Niners.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Quick bully on the block in Seattle actually was one
- 9:05Speaker 5: of the one teams that figured out how to beat him,
- 9:08Speaker 5: being three damn day.
- 9:09Speaker 1: So I was impressed with Pets again.
- 9:11Speaker 6: He reached the more competitiveness and I think that showed
- 9:14Speaker 6: us throughout his career.
- 9:16Speaker 7: He's a football guy.
- 9:17Speaker 5: He loves football, and he wanted to be a Raider.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Well, if you think about it too, that Seattle Seahawks
- 9:23Speaker 2: team with Russell Wilson, with the legion of Boom, they
- 9:26Speaker 2: had a great rivalry with San Francisco. What rivalry do
- 9:31Speaker 2: the Raiders currently have, Well, they play in the toughest
- 9:35Speaker 2: division maybe in the sport between the Super Bowl bound
- 9:40Speaker 2: Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos with Bownecks, who is
- 9:45Speaker 2: a potential Rookie of the Year candidate, and the LA
- 9:49Speaker 2: Chargers with Jim Harbaugh, by the way, the former coach
- 9:52Speaker 2: of the San Francisco forty nine ers, and Justin Herbert,
- 9:55Speaker 2: a guy who's universally recognized as a top ten quarterback
- 9:58Speaker 2: in the NFL. Pete Carroll makes uniquely, uniquely make sense
- 10:04Speaker 2: for the Raiders. So that's another team that I scratch
- 10:07Speaker 2: off the list of teams who could have the most
- 10:11Speaker 2: abysmal dreary five years.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Now.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Finally, I want to hear from Cameron Parker. Now, this
- 10:16Speaker 2: is from earlier last week where he gave out his
- 10:20Speaker 2: take on the Dallas Cowboys and where he thought the
- 10:23Speaker 2: next five years, We're going to go for the Cowboys.
- 10:25Speaker 8: Who are the worst teams to be a fan of
- 10:28Speaker 8: for the next five years? Next five year outlook, who
- 10:30Speaker 8: would be the worst teams to root for? I think
- 10:32Speaker 8: if the Cowboys do hire Schottenheimer, either they hire Kellen
- 10:35Speaker 8: Moore or Joe Brady, I think the Cowboys are in
- 10:39Speaker 8: the top five of that list. I think you go
- 10:41Speaker 8: with what Jacksonville because I don't think Jacksonville's going to
- 10:44Speaker 8: make a good head coaching move. Probably Cleveland, just because
- 10:46Speaker 8: Cleveland just cannot seem to get over the hump and
- 10:49Speaker 8: Deshaun Watson contract.
- 10:51Speaker 7: Is so bad. But I think the Cowboys are in
- 10:53Speaker 7: the top five.
- 10:53Speaker 8: I would argue there right now, if you're a Dallas
- 10:55Speaker 8: Cowboy fan, the next five years look bleak.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I'm going to zag very hard on our friend Cameron.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I love Cameron Parker. I think he does actually incredible
- 11:03Speaker 2: job with Craig every day on this program. I'm zaging hard.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Look at the teams who are drafting at the top
- 11:09Speaker 2: of this year's NFL draft, Tennessee, Cleveland, the New York Giants,
- 11:13Speaker 2: the Jacksonville Jaguars, who I'm gonna believe in, mister Duval,
- 11:18Speaker 2: that I believe in Liam Comee. Those teams to me
- 11:23Speaker 2: are the dreary ones. When it comes to that top
- 11:27Speaker 2: or five worst top five, most disappointing leads or most
- 11:34Speaker 2: disappointing futures, I would say New Orleans has to be
- 11:37Speaker 2: in that conversation as well, Miami isn't working with TUA.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Indianapolis Cowboy fans, relax, Jerry Jones might be ruining the franchise.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I don't think that you have a top five worse
- 11:49Speaker 2: future headed your way. All right after, when we come back,
- 11:54Speaker 2: we're talking UT men's basketball freshman Trad Johnson had media
- 11:59Speaker 2: available abillity today. What did he say? I'll tell you
- 12:03Speaker 2: he's not afraid to pump the weights. We'll come back
- 12:05Speaker 2: with more in a minute. On The Craig Way Show.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Andrew zim Will filling in for Craig on Sports Radio
- 12:10Speaker 2: AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Andrew Zimbil filling in for
- 12:14Speaker 2: Craig Way this afternoon. Hopefully you guys are having an
- 12:17Speaker 2: excellent one as we work our way through the work
- 12:21Speaker 2: week together.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Well.
- 12:22Speaker 2: SEC Freshman of the Week it was Trey Johnson this week.
- 12:26Speaker 2: It got announced yesterday. It marks the second weekly league
- 12:30Speaker 2: honor he has won. During the two contests last week,
- 12:35Speaker 2: Johnson average team best twenty one points, three assists, and
- 12:38Speaker 2: two and a half rebounds, including playing twenty minutes in
- 12:42Speaker 2: the second half of Saturday's victory against Texas A and M.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Johnson helped the Longhorns rally from twenty two point deficit
- 12:50Speaker 2: with seventeen left in the game. It tied the program's
- 12:54Speaker 2: largest comeback of victory since the ninety eight ninety nine season.
- 12:59Speaker 2: He scored four points in the second half. Trey Johnson
- 13:04Speaker 2: has been everything as advertised, and he spoke with the
- 13:08Speaker 2: media earlier today, So yeah, it was asked a lot
- 13:14Speaker 2: of questions. We're gonna get into as many of this
- 13:16Speaker 2: as much of his audio as we can. The first
- 13:19Speaker 2: question he got asked was the biggest adjustment to his
- 13:23Speaker 2: game going from high school to college.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Biggest adjustment being a better same defender. I feel like
- 13:31Speaker 6: over the years, I've always been able to progress as
- 13:33Speaker 6: an on ball defender, but also just being in shape
- 13:37Speaker 6: and being strong enough of my legs to play both
- 13:40Speaker 6: sides of the ball for forty minutes if I have
- 13:42Speaker 6: to now.
- 13:44Speaker 2: And that's something that was talked about as he came
- 13:47Speaker 2: to the University of Texas when he joined the program.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Was yes, we know that he's an incredible scorer, but
- 13:52Speaker 2: can he play defense? And he has been proven or
- 13:55Speaker 2: he's shown that he can do that. Then he was
- 13:57Speaker 2: asked the biggest piece of advice he's got, I didn't
- 14:00Speaker 2: from an older teammate, not necessarily a teammate on his
- 14:04Speaker 2: team currently, any older teammate that he.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Might have gotten.
- 14:08Speaker 7: I just keep working no matter what I achieved.
- 14:11Speaker 6: I got there from one of my teammates back when
- 14:13Speaker 6: I was at Lake Collins just always told me to
- 14:15Speaker 6: keep working.
- 14:16Speaker 7: And that's something that's kind of stuck with me because
- 14:18Speaker 7: I had.
- 14:18Speaker 6: A lot of great achievements and just keeping those in
- 14:21Speaker 6: the rear view after they passed and just focusing on
- 14:24Speaker 6: my main goal has been great, great advice for me.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Now.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Obviously, the best twenty minutes of basketball for this program
- 14:33Speaker 2: this year might have been those twenty minutes to rally
- 14:37Speaker 2: back against rival A and M this past weekend. Was
- 14:41Speaker 2: that the best twenty minutes that Johnson has felt this year.
- 14:46Speaker 7: I wouldn't say that's the best I felt.
- 14:47Speaker 6: I just said that's the most I've exerted myself actually
- 14:52Speaker 6: just going out trying to make things happen.
- 14:54Speaker 7: I usually just play and go with the flow of
- 14:57Speaker 7: the game.
- 14:58Speaker 6: And I feel like just knowing that we was twenty,
- 15:00Speaker 6: we already lost by twenty one time, so they can't
- 15:03Speaker 6: get no worse. So my trying to do something to
- 15:06Speaker 6: help change the game maybe coming out of halftimes on
- 15:09Speaker 6: my mind.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Now, if you've watched Trade play, whether it be at
- 15:13Speaker 2: the Movie Center or on ESPN or wherever, or listen
- 15:16Speaker 2: to it right here on the Zone or kvat FM,
- 15:19Speaker 2: you know that he plays with passion and emotion. He's
- 15:23Speaker 2: somebody that's not afraid to get loud. So he was
- 15:27Speaker 2: asked the emotion, Are you yelling at yourself as a
- 15:30Speaker 2: motivation or are you talking to somebody else on the court?
- 15:34Speaker 6: Now, it's mainly if I'm yelling, it's mainly at myself
- 15:36Speaker 6: because there's a lot of mistakes and things that I
- 15:38Speaker 6: make throughout the game, and that a lot of just
- 15:40Speaker 6: little things that nobody else sees but only I know
- 15:43Speaker 6: that I'm messed up on. So it's just really, if
- 15:45Speaker 6: I'm yelling, it's mainly at myself, just to be better
- 15:48Speaker 6: or focusing more on lit stuff.
- 15:51Speaker 2: The Mamba mentality, getting excited, talking to yourself. That's what
- 15:55Speaker 2: we love to see out of Trade. Johnson one of
- 15:57Speaker 2: the best players in the SEC, coming off of SEC
- 16:01Speaker 2: Freshman of the Week that was awarded yesterday. Now, he
- 16:06Speaker 2: was asked about his thirty point game and if it
- 16:09Speaker 2: raises the bar for himself, but also maybe the expectations
- 16:14Speaker 2: around this team.
- 16:16Speaker 6: I don't know if it raises the bar if anything
- 16:18Speaker 6: like that. I'm just excited for the win. I don't
- 16:20Speaker 6: think it had anything to do with the points I
- 16:23Speaker 6: always said when I was coming, I was trying to
- 16:25Speaker 6: get wins and play defense, and I did a good
- 16:27Speaker 6: job of that on whatever day we played them. And
- 16:32Speaker 6: that's my expectations that I've been trying to keep push
- 16:34Speaker 6: forward to that now.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Rodney Terry is a motivator. He's somebody that's not afraid
- 16:40Speaker 2: to give you a pound in the back, but he's
- 16:41Speaker 2: also the type of coach that will let you know
- 16:44Speaker 2: what you need to do better. What was something that
- 16:46Speaker 2: coach Terry said after the game to Johnson?
- 16:52Speaker 6: Just my defense and how locked locked in I was
- 16:54Speaker 6: on the shouting report.
- 16:55Speaker 7: Those are the main things that I was told after
- 16:57Speaker 7: the game.
- 16:59Speaker 2: So not the Scott report says that Trey Johnson needs
- 17:02Speaker 2: to play good team defense, and that's exactly what he did.
- 17:07Speaker 2: So followed up with the playing with the right type
- 17:12Speaker 2: of emotion, right, He's somebody that always plays with emotion,
- 17:15Speaker 2: But how you always played with that type of emotion.
- 17:20Speaker 7: I would say all of my teammates.
- 17:22Speaker 6: It has never been no, just one person, but it's
- 17:24Speaker 6: just little bits and pieces that about, little bits and
- 17:27Speaker 6: pieces of advice that guys on the team that gave me,
- 17:30Speaker 6: and then just having older guys on my team always
- 17:32Speaker 6: looking out for me and my best interest has always
- 17:34Speaker 6: been good for me.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Which leads us into your teammates. They all speak very
- 17:39Speaker 2: highly of you. We're talking about Trey Johnson, the SEC
- 17:44Speaker 2: Conference Freshman Player of the week. They all speak very
- 17:47Speaker 2: highly of you. Is there somebody who in the program
- 17:51Speaker 2: has kind of helped you in the right direction, lead
- 17:53Speaker 2: you in the right direction?
- 17:56Speaker 7: I would say all of my teammates.
- 17:57Speaker 6: It has never been no just one person, but it's
- 18:00Speaker 6: little bits and pieces that are about that, little bits
- 18:02Speaker 6: and pieces of advice that guys on the team that
- 18:04Speaker 6: gave me, and then just having older guys on my
- 18:07Speaker 6: team always looking out for me and my best interest
- 18:09Speaker 6: has always been good for me.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Now and how much of that leadership has helped you
- 18:14Speaker 2: on the court, That's what Tray Johnson got asked.
- 18:18Speaker 6: It's big having my teammates trust and believe me, because
- 18:21Speaker 6: you can always have guys talking to you in the court,
- 18:24Speaker 6: but it's going through one ear one and out the
- 18:26Speaker 6: other because you don't have that same faith that they
- 18:28Speaker 6: know what they're talking about. And just it goes to
- 18:31Speaker 6: show that I'm not just leading by talking. I'm also
- 18:34Speaker 6: trying to lead by example on defense, so I can't
- 18:36Speaker 6: be out there messing up and try and coach somebody
- 18:38Speaker 6: else by someone else else, and then just having teammates
- 18:41Speaker 6: that like to have an open ear and listen and
- 18:43Speaker 6: take advice and criticism just like I, just like I
- 18:45Speaker 6: do now.
- 18:47Speaker 2: The UT schedule this season for the long run man
- 18:50Speaker 2: has been very, very difficult, especially when you get into
- 18:54Speaker 2: conference play. They drop their first two conference games against
- 18:57Speaker 2: Texas A and M and against number two at the
- 18:59Speaker 2: time Auburn, and then against Tennessee as well. Before they
- 19:02Speaker 2: were able to kind of write the ship against Missouri
- 19:05Speaker 2: and Texas A and M in the past couple games.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Had the early SEC schedule helped this team for what
- 19:13Speaker 2: now comes up in this later side of the schedule,
- 19:16Speaker 2: especially against Old miss tomorrow.
- 19:19Speaker 6: I feel like that was good just learning, especially the
- 19:22Speaker 6: first few games hard schedule conference games that.
- 19:26Speaker 7: We had, going on the road and at home.
- 19:28Speaker 6: I feel like they were good to show us how
- 19:30Speaker 6: much how much harder we got to go just to
- 19:32Speaker 6: win a game, how hard we got to play on
- 19:34Speaker 6: both ends, and how long we got to play for
- 19:37Speaker 6: forty minutes to just win a game.
- 19:38Speaker 7: And they were also learning how to win.
- 19:39Speaker 6: Games and close out games, so that's really been big
- 19:42Speaker 6: for us.
- 19:42Speaker 2: We're hearing from freshman Trey Johnson as Longhorns get ready
- 19:46Speaker 2: to take on Old Miss tomorrow. And finally, the question
- 19:50Speaker 2: is how big of a difference is the physicality between
- 19:54Speaker 2: AAU and high school ball and then this first season
- 19:56Speaker 2: and maybe the most physically dominating conference the SEC.
- 20:01Speaker 6: UH, I don't really feel like the physical aspect unless
- 20:04Speaker 6: somebody's just holding me, or unless I gotta go box
- 20:07Speaker 6: somebody out.
- 20:08Speaker 7: Or that's the only case.
- 20:09Speaker 6: But don't I don't even be thinking that guys are
- 20:13Speaker 6: as old as they usually are. I be thinking they
- 20:14Speaker 6: still saying age as me because I always been skinny
- 20:17Speaker 6: growing up, so guys have always been stronger than me,
- 20:19Speaker 6: so it ain't been nothing different for real. But just yeah,
- 20:23Speaker 6: I just feel like plus just having to play defense
- 20:25Speaker 6: on stronger defenders they like to use their size and strength,
- 20:28Speaker 6: and having to do that over forty minutes can when
- 20:30Speaker 6: we're in tearyn you soon. That's just still being in
- 20:32Speaker 6: shape and still being strong enough to endure that.
- 20:35Speaker 2: I guess we'll hear more from Shrey Johnson later in
- 20:39Speaker 2: the show. Craig Waves Show andrews On filling in for
- 20:42Speaker 2: crag Ut and Old Miss battle tomorrow on the hardwood.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You can hear that game right here on the Zone
- 20:47Speaker 2: KVED FM one O three one as well. That's eight
- 20:50Speaker 2: pm Wednesday night. Juli Nardi from ESPN has Ut as
- 20:55Speaker 2: the last four in currently in his conference breakdowns. We'll
- 21:00Speaker 2: get more into that as well as the show continues.
- 21:03Speaker 2: But next up, it's inconceivable that is right? Is it
- 21:07Speaker 2: inconceivable for the Kandasy Chiefs to go to the Super
- 21:12Speaker 2: Bowl again?
- 21:12Speaker 1: I guess not.
- 21:13Speaker 2: We'll have more in a moment on The Craigway Show
- 21:16Speaker 2: on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred of the Zone, Andrew
- 21:19Speaker 2: Zimmel filling in for Craig Way as Craig and Cameron
- 21:22Speaker 2: both on travel today going to Old Miss as the
- 21:27Speaker 2: University of Texas men's basketball team takes on the ReBs tomorrow.
- 21:31Speaker 2: You can listen to the game right here on the
- 21:33Speaker 2: Zone as well as on KVETFM and one O three
- 21:36Speaker 2: to one as long as well as on the Longhorn
- 21:39Speaker 2: Radio Network lot.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Going on in hour number two of the program.
- 21:44Speaker 2: If you missed any of it, go back and listen
- 21:45Speaker 2: to the podcast on the Free iHeartRadio app, the new
- 21:48Speaker 2: and improved Free iHeartRadio app. We'll get back to that
- 21:51Speaker 2: in a second lot going on this hour, Where oh
- 21:55Speaker 2: Where will Jimmy Butler Go? And UT Men's baseball ranked
- 21:59Speaker 2: fourteenth in the Baseball American preseason poll, along with xaker
- 22:05Speaker 2: Worthy having some words for the Buffalo Bills and the
- 22:08Speaker 2: NFL after that AFCED championship win. We'll get into all
- 22:12Speaker 2: of that, but we start our number two with Madison Booker,
- 22:17Speaker 2: who was named the Nasmith Trophy Player of the Week
- 22:20Speaker 2: on Monday. Booker started the week scoring twenty eight points
- 22:25Speaker 2: to help the Longhorns in an eighty nine to fifty
- 22:27Speaker 2: one win over number eight Maryland. In the Credit Scott
- 22:31Speaker 2: King Classic. Against Tennessee, Booker had her ninth twenty point
- 22:35Speaker 2: game of the season with twenty six and made a
- 22:38Speaker 2: key stealing layup to lift Texas for an eighty seventy
- 22:41Speaker 2: six win over Number seventeen Tennessee. This past weekend, Booker
- 22:46Speaker 2: went home to Mississippi and playing in front of over
- 22:49Speaker 2: thirty friends and family, she'd go ahead jumper for Texas
- 22:52Speaker 2: with twenty five seconds left to eke out a sixty
- 22:56Speaker 2: one fifty eight win. Overall, miss Booker again made key
- 23:00Speaker 2: defensive plays down the stretch, with three blocks in the game.
- 23:03Speaker 2: For the week, Booker average twenty two points on fifty
- 23:06Speaker 2: two percent shooting from the field. For the season, Booker
- 23:10Speaker 2: is shooting nearly forty nine percent from the field, which
- 23:13Speaker 2: is unheard of, and forty three percent from three point range,
- 23:16Speaker 2: along with eighty five percent from the charity stripe. Next
- 23:19Speaker 2: up for the long Horns is Missouri Thursday at eight
- 23:22Speaker 2: pm at the Moody Center. So you do a little research,
- 23:27Speaker 2: You do a little bit of digging even the service level,
- 23:30Speaker 2: digging into the SEC. We talk at nauseum about the
- 23:34Speaker 2: men's side of the bracket and the men's side of
- 23:37Speaker 2: college hoops, and how the SEC has far and away
- 23:40Speaker 2: become the best basketball conference. Now you said that to
- 23:44Speaker 2: somebody ten years ago, they probably would disagree with you.
- 23:48Speaker 2: They'd say the ACC, the Big East, the Big Ten,
- 23:50Speaker 2: the PAC twelve. The SEC has been on the rise
- 23:54Speaker 2: over the past five years, and with the addition of
- 23:57Speaker 2: the Texas Longhorns whole have they jumped ahead of the
- 24:02Speaker 2: rest of the league's the women's side of the bracket,
- 24:06Speaker 2: I would argue even tougher than the men's side. What
- 24:10Speaker 2: do I mean by that, Well, there are five twenty
- 24:12Speaker 2: win teams currently in women's hoops at the collegiate level,
- 24:17Speaker 2: five teams with twenty wins or more this season, and
- 24:20Speaker 2: three of them are in the SEC. Those three teams
- 24:25Speaker 2: being South Carolina who's a knowing conference play at number
- 24:30Speaker 2: two in the rankings, LSU who's six and one in
- 24:34Speaker 2: conference and twenty one wins on the season, and then
- 24:36Speaker 2: number five Texas at six and one as well, and
- 24:39Speaker 2: they are twenty and two on the season. Incredible, And
- 24:43Speaker 2: then you go through the amount of teams who have
- 24:45Speaker 2: single digit losses in the conference, and you go through
- 24:49Speaker 2: the amount of teams who are just they're out of
- 24:52Speaker 2: this world. It is far and away the best basketball
- 24:58Speaker 2: conference on either sid men's or women's and with mattis
- 25:02Speaker 2: to Booker leading the way, this has turned into a
- 25:06Speaker 2: dominating team. This is something that we want to keep
- 25:09Speaker 2: our eyes on as the season continues, and they're putting
- 25:13Speaker 2: out bracketology on ESPN already for where they think some
- 25:17Speaker 2: of these SEC teams are going to shake out. And
- 25:21Speaker 2: right now in Region one, the Spokane region is what
- 25:26Speaker 2: they're calling it. Right Texas would be the two seed
- 25:30Speaker 2: in that region in the Austin area. So again early,
- 25:35Speaker 2: we're only in late January, but it is time to
- 25:38Speaker 2: start gearing up for March Madness. It feels like it
- 25:41Speaker 2: begins earlier and earlier every single season, but here we are.
- 25:46Speaker 2: We are getting to the point where we are gearing
- 25:49Speaker 2: up for March Madness. And so Thursday night's game at
- 25:53Speaker 2: the Movie Center against Missouri, that'll be Roger Wallace on
- 25:57Speaker 2: a call. You can listen to that game on one
- 25:58Speaker 2: of three to one. Well, so women's basketball this season
- 26:04Speaker 2: has been and I think of the two programs are
- 26:09Speaker 2: the betting favorite to make a deep postseason run in
- 26:13Speaker 2: the SEC tournament. But also into the month of March.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Last year's team we were talking about with different people
- 26:23Speaker 2: behind the scenes and it was okay, well, how are
- 26:25Speaker 2: we going to Because again I don't want to give
- 26:28Speaker 2: away all of our radio magic over here on the zone,
- 26:30Speaker 2: but I will take you behind the curtain a little bit.
- 26:33Speaker 2: There's only so many hours in the day. There's only
- 26:35Speaker 2: so many bodies in the building. How do you make
- 26:38Speaker 2: sure that all of these games get on the air
- 26:40Speaker 2: at the same time? And when you look at the
- 26:43Speaker 2: women's basketball team, you say to yourself, well, this is
- 26:45Speaker 2: a team that is going to make a deep postseason run.
- 26:48Speaker 2: How do you make sure that all of those games
- 26:51Speaker 2: get on the air?
- 26:52Speaker 1: How do you make sure you have.
- 26:53Speaker 2: A board op and somebody running all those games? Along
- 26:56Speaker 2: with a baseball and softball program that have continued to
- 27:00Speaker 2: dominate and going into the SEC will continue to try
- 27:04Speaker 2: to make those type of moves. The rest of the
- 27:07Speaker 2: schedule for the women's team is good.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Do not get in twisted. This is a very good.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Stretch of games coming up as we go into early February.
- 27:21Speaker 2: The game, though, that I have circled on my calendar
- 27:25Speaker 2: is that February sixteenth matchup against LSU. That game is
- 27:30Speaker 2: at the Moody Center, the last time these two teams.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I believe this will be the first time, you know,
- 27:36Speaker 2: this will be the first and only time that these
- 27:38Speaker 2: two teams will play. That game is scheduled currently two
- 27:41Speaker 2: pm on ABC and also on the Long Court Radio Network.
- 27:45Speaker 2: LSU this season with Kim Mulki have been exactly what
- 27:50Speaker 2: you expect them to be, six and one in conference,
- 27:52Speaker 2: but a game back again, game back from South Carolina.
- 27:57Speaker 2: We go through the great coaches in women's hoops, the
- 28:04Speaker 2: Genos of the world, the Kim Molkeys of the world,
- 28:07Speaker 2: the Don Stanleys of the world. And we're getting into
- 28:11Speaker 2: this spot now when we talk about Vic Schaeffer, the
- 28:14Speaker 2: head coach of the Longhorned women's basketball team, that he
- 28:17Speaker 2: has a team that is going to put himself. I
- 28:20Speaker 2: think he's already in some women's basketball circles in those conversations.
- 28:25Speaker 2: But the way that this team is set up, and
- 28:27Speaker 2: again on the shoulders of Madison Booker, the way this
- 28:30Speaker 2: team is set up to make a deep postseason run,
- 28:33Speaker 2: it will be helping propel Vic Shaeffer into those type
- 28:38Speaker 2: of conversations.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Tomorrow. Don't forget.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I want to remind you Texas men's basketball on the
- 28:45Speaker 2: air right here on thirteen hundred Zone as well as
- 28:47Speaker 2: on CAVET FM and on one O three to one
- 28:50Speaker 2: as they take on Old Miss number twenty three Old
- 28:54Speaker 2: Miss eight PM. Craig Way will be on the call
- 28:58Speaker 2: for that one. We're gonna take a who We're gonna
- 29:01Speaker 2: end this segment a little early here, Ronald. I'm trying
- 29:03Speaker 2: to help our guy out here. We're gonna wrap this
- 29:05Speaker 2: up a little early. We're gonna do a little bit
- 29:07Speaker 2: more on the back end because I have a lot
- 29:10Speaker 2: to say about where Jimmy Butler may or may not
- 29:15Speaker 2: end up. It has been ugly this divorce between the
- 29:19Speaker 2: Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler. Where will he end up?
- 29:23Speaker 2: Will he end up where he wants to go? We'll
- 29:25Speaker 2: have all that for you next on The Craigway Show.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Andrew zim will filling in for Craigway on Sports Radio
- 29:31Speaker 2: AM thirteen hundred zone.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I am Andrew Zimmel.
- 29:34Speaker 2: You can follow me on social media on all platforms
- 29:37Speaker 2: at Andrew Underscore.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Zimmele. That's m M E. L.
- 29:42Speaker 7: Well.
- 29:42Speaker 2: He was one of my favorite players growing up and
- 29:45Speaker 2: now he's turning into maybe the biggest villain in the NBA.
- 29:50Speaker 2: It's Jimmy Butler. Butler was a guy. He's a Houston,
- 29:54Speaker 2: Texas guy. He's a Texas guy. He goes to Chicago
- 29:58Speaker 2: and he's on those very good Derrick Rose Bulls teams.
- 30:02Speaker 2: When Rose gets hurt, he was one of those guys
- 30:04Speaker 2: that stepped up and helped the Chicago Bulls continue to
- 30:08Speaker 2: be a successful organization. When he left for Minnesota, that
- 30:14Speaker 2: organization went in a complete tailspin. If you remember, the
- 30:17Speaker 2: trade that sent him to Minnesota brought back Zach Lavine,
- 30:21Speaker 2: who has been a very exciting player to watch, but
- 30:24Speaker 2: not exactly a winning player. Jimmy Butler then forces his
- 30:28Speaker 2: way out of Minnesota, gives Karl Anthony Towns and Andrew
- 30:31Speaker 2: Wiggins the stamp of disapproval, says that these guys are
- 30:34Speaker 2: soft goes to Philadelphia and if not for a Kawhi
- 30:37Speaker 2: Leonard three in Game seven, we might be talking about
- 30:41Speaker 2: the Philadelphia seventy six ers and trusting the process working.
- 30:45Speaker 2: He then signs with Miami, and after this stint in
- 30:50Speaker 2: Miami with Heat culture and pat Riley and Eric Spolstra
- 30:53Speaker 2: and not one but two trips to the NBA Finals,
- 30:57Speaker 2: including going as an eight seed, It's a messy, messy divorce.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I have not seen the likes of this type of
- 31:07Speaker 2: divorce probably.
- 31:09Speaker 1: In my life. It feels like unreconcilable.
- 31:15Speaker 2: And now it is being reported that he is being
- 31:18Speaker 2: suspended for a third time from the Miami Heat organization,
- 31:24Speaker 2: which again, what is going on in South Beach now.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Brian Windhors very connected when it comes to all things NBA.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Brian Windhors one of the trusted insiders for ESPN. He
- 31:38Speaker 2: was on ESPN earlier today talking about Jimmy Butler in
- 31:43Speaker 2: this situation.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Jimmy Bully is going to get traded.
- 31:46Speaker 9: I wasn't sure about that maybe seven to ten days ago.
- 31:49Speaker 9: I really am more sure than everything that's going to happen.
- 31:52Speaker 9: The Heat are trying to make it happen. They have
- 31:55Speaker 9: backed down on their asks to teams that they had
- 31:58Speaker 9: two three weeks ago when this whole saga really started.
- 32:01Speaker 1: They're willing to do more. And I think that.
- 32:03Speaker 9: There is really a chance now that more teams I
- 32:06Speaker 9: think are going to wide in here because the price
- 32:08Speaker 9: on Butler is going to be lower than just the
- 32:10Speaker 9: Phoenix Suns, which is the way it's been.
- 32:13Speaker 2: So Originally, I was a big Jimmy Butler fan, and
- 32:16Speaker 2: I was a proponent living in San Antonio covering the
- 32:19Speaker 2: Spurs for the Spurs to make a move. Every one
- 32:23Speaker 2: of my Spurs friends threw it in my face, they
- 32:25Speaker 2: said this isn't the right move. I looked at it
- 32:28Speaker 2: as hey Defensive Player of the Year Victor Webbin Yama,
- 32:31Speaker 2: aging vent Chris Paul Harrison Barnes has been pretty good
- 32:34Speaker 2: for the Spurs.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Why not take a flyer on Jimmy Butler?
- 32:39Speaker 2: And then he was suspended for a second time, and
- 32:42Speaker 2: I said, oh, you know, maybe I might be in
- 32:44Speaker 2: the wrong here now a third suspension. I don't really
- 32:47Speaker 2: want anything to do with Butler. And he is a
- 32:50Speaker 2: distress asset. And pat Riley, for the first time in
- 32:54Speaker 2: his career as a front office manager, as a general
- 32:58Speaker 2: manager of the Miami Heat, has to make a decision
- 33:02Speaker 2: with a distress asset, if you think about it, in
- 33:05Speaker 2: his tenure in Miami, he's never had to deal with
- 33:08Speaker 2: somebody like a Jimmy Butler. The best player that he
- 33:13Speaker 2: ever signed was Lebron James. Lebron James kind of ghosted
- 33:17Speaker 2: him when he went back to Cleveland. And according to
- 33:20Speaker 2: Dan Lebttard, who from the Dan Lebotard Show is the
- 33:23Speaker 2: Miami Harold columnists for years, he went on his platform
- 33:26Speaker 2: talking about how and again Lebotard very connected to South Beach,
- 33:32Speaker 2: very connected to the Miami Heat organization. He went on
- 33:35Speaker 2: his podcast talking about how that pat Riley since the
- 33:39Speaker 2: divorce from Lebron in twenty fourteen, and that summer when
- 33:42Speaker 2: he went back to Cleveland and returned home, eventually winning
- 33:45Speaker 2: a championship with his original home franchise and the Cavaliers.
- 33:51Speaker 2: That ever since then, the way that pat Riley views
- 33:55Speaker 2: players has kind of changed. He doesn't look at it,
- 33:58Speaker 2: he doesn't look at free agency, he doesn't look at
- 34:00Speaker 2: player empowerment the same way that he did back in
- 34:03Speaker 2: twenty ten. Ironically, when it is working to your advantage,
- 34:07Speaker 2: you tend to like a little bit more than when
- 34:11Speaker 2: it is hurting your franchise or hurting you individually. Now,
- 34:14Speaker 2: the Miami Heat twenty three to twenty two on the season,
- 34:17Speaker 2: they're right now the sixth seed. They're on the cusp
- 34:20Speaker 2: of being a play in team. When you look at
- 34:22Speaker 2: those other teams who would be seven through ten through
- 34:25Speaker 2: Orlando Magic, Palo Bancaro comes back, they feel like they
- 34:29Speaker 2: are a team set up to compete in the East.
- 34:32Speaker 2: The Detroit Pistons with Kate Cunningham, the Atlanta Hawks with
- 34:36Speaker 2: Trey Young, and then there's the Chicago Bulls, who I
- 34:39Speaker 2: would anticipate being a seller here at the deadline as well.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Team not in there the seventy six ers. They are
- 34:45Speaker 2: on the outside looking in. Currently, if the playoffs start
- 34:47Speaker 2: today in the Eastern Conference, Weinhor said something interesting. He
- 34:52Speaker 2: said that the price for Butler is coming down. Originally
- 34:57Speaker 2: it was going to be Butler's saying I want to
- 35:00Speaker 2: go play for thirty one of the other organizations. He
- 35:04Speaker 2: does not care where he goes. He just doesn't want
- 35:05Speaker 2: to be in Miami. I tend to believe that that's
- 35:08Speaker 2: not actually the case. If you are a thirty five
- 35:12Speaker 2: year old, former All Star, thirty five year old who
- 35:15Speaker 2: has competed in the NBA finals, I don't really think
- 35:20Speaker 2: you want to end up in Detroit. I don't think
- 35:22Speaker 2: Jimmy Butler really wants to end up in Toronto. If
- 35:25Speaker 2: I was a betting man, you probably want to go
- 35:28Speaker 2: to the Phoenix Suns, who are again pushing all the
- 35:31Speaker 2: chips in the middle of table with Kevin Duran and
- 35:33Speaker 2: Devin Booker to try to make something happen. Now, the
- 35:35Speaker 2: problem is the distress asset on the Suns. The piece
- 35:40Speaker 2: that the Suns desperately want to move off of is
- 35:44Speaker 2: Bradley Beal, who has a no trade clause, so you
- 35:48Speaker 2: have to sell Bradley Beal on the Miami Heat. And
- 35:52Speaker 2: it doesn't really help when you're GM and you're president
- 35:56Speaker 2: of Basketball and the guy who is called the guy
- 36:00Speaker 2: Father when it comes to all things NBA and pat Riley,
- 36:04Speaker 2: it does not help that this divorce is so messy.
- 36:09Speaker 2: The optics for the Miami Heat currently are very bad
- 36:15Speaker 2: around the league. There are other players and again us fans,
- 36:20Speaker 2: we don't look at it as the Miami Heat doing
- 36:22Speaker 2: anything wrong. I guarantee you, though, there's conversations behind closed
- 36:27Speaker 2: doors amongst players that even though Jimmy Butler may be
- 36:32Speaker 2: making himself look a little bit like a fool and
- 36:35Speaker 2: maybe a players around the league, and I imagine the
- 36:38Speaker 2: Players Association does love that he walks out of practice
- 36:41Speaker 2: after being told he's not going to start anymore for
- 36:43Speaker 2: the Heat. I imagine that there's a lot of players
- 36:47Speaker 2: who get the sentiment of Butler, who's a thirty five
- 36:51Speaker 2: year old who's due to make fifty million dollars, but again,
- 36:54Speaker 2: he wants a long term commitment from Miami. Now, this
- 36:58Speaker 2: is where a zebra does not change his stripes is
- 37:02Speaker 2: out how the phrase goes. The Miami Heat had one of,
- 37:07Speaker 2: if not the signature player in their franchise in Dwayne Wade.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Dwayne Wade an aging superstar. I would argue ninety nine
- 37:18Speaker 2: percent of the league would give their franchise star, their
- 37:22Speaker 2: marquee guy, the guy who had won them multiple championships,
- 37:26Speaker 2: a farewell contract. We'll say, guys like Kobe Bryant have
- 37:30Speaker 2: gotten it. Guys like Shaquille O'Neal have gotten it. Dwayne
- 37:34Speaker 2: Wade thought he was going to get it from the
- 37:36Speaker 2: Miami Heat.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Not so fast.
- 37:39Speaker 2: My friend pat Riley does not give farewell contracts. Call
- 37:44Speaker 2: it good gmianship, call it good management, or, as Dwayne
- 37:49Speaker 2: Wade looked at it, kind of a slap in the face.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I brought all of this success to your organization, and
- 37:54Speaker 2: this is how you treat me. Jimmy Butler, to a
- 37:57Speaker 2: lesser extent, feels a similar way as Dwayne Way did
- 38:00Speaker 2: about a decade ago when he had to leave Miami
- 38:03Speaker 2: to go to Chicago to try to go get paid.
- 38:06Speaker 2: I got you to the NBA Finals in a bubble
- 38:10Speaker 2: that was absolutely It sounds like it was like mad
- 38:14Speaker 2: Max in that bubble. All the players who were in
- 38:17Speaker 2: the COVID bubble playing for that championship act like this
- 38:21Speaker 2: was like a third world country. They say that it
- 38:23Speaker 2: was the most stressful time of their lives playing in
- 38:26Speaker 2: this bubble.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Jimmy Publy looks.
- 38:28Speaker 2: At that and says, hey, not only did I start
- 38:31Speaker 2: a coffee brand that got us incredible publicity on social
- 38:34Speaker 2: media and made the organization look really good, but also
- 38:39Speaker 2: I got us to the championship. I beat the Boston Celtics.
- 38:44Speaker 2: And you look around this team and yeah, Jimi Hotkiz
- 38:48Speaker 2: is cool, and yeah Bam man Byo was good, and
- 38:51Speaker 2: Tyler Hero is a serviceable player. But these are not
- 38:57Speaker 2: that good of players like Bam is good, Tyler Hero good.
- 39:01Speaker 2: But you go around in the league and you look
- 39:02Speaker 2: at some of the running mates that Jannis out Totakupo has,
- 39:07Speaker 2: You look at the running mate that Jason Tatum has
- 39:09Speaker 2: in Boston, or even what the Knicks have done bring
- 39:12Speaker 2: in karl Athy Towns, and you say to yourself, Okay, well,
- 39:15Speaker 2: you're not going to pay me what I want, which
- 39:19Speaker 2: is a contract that's going to ensure that I'm here
- 39:23Speaker 2: to end my career in Miami. I'm thirty five years old.
- 39:26Speaker 2: If you're Butler, I want to be here long term.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Give me that contract, show me that loyalty, but you're
- 39:32Speaker 2: also not able to make the deals done, to get
- 39:35Speaker 2: the deals done to make me an actual contender. That
- 39:41Speaker 2: I think is where these these wires get crossed. Pat
- 39:46Speaker 2: Riley was never ever going to pay for a player
- 39:52Speaker 2: who had a good past.
- 39:53Speaker 1: He looks at the future.
- 39:54Speaker 2: He looks at what are you going to do for
- 39:56Speaker 2: me in the coming seasons, not what you did for
- 39:59Speaker 2: me in the bubble, what you did for me to
- 40:01Speaker 2: get me to the NBA Finals. He's paying for future,
- 40:06Speaker 2: not for the past. And Jimmy Butler has done this
- 40:10Speaker 2: everywhere he's gone. He wasn't happy in Chicago and he
- 40:14Speaker 2: blew the whole thing up. He wasn't happy in Minnesota
- 40:19Speaker 2: and he blew the whole thing up again where he
- 40:22Speaker 2: calls Rachel Nichols and does a sit down interview. A
- 40:26Speaker 2: zebra does not change his stripes. These are two individuals,
- 40:30Speaker 2: and pat Riley and Jimmy Butler who were never ever
- 40:34Speaker 2: going to make this inamicable divorce. This is essentially where
- 40:39Speaker 2: you have your friend who you know can get a
- 40:42Speaker 2: little crazy, a little rowdy, and you see his girlfriend
- 40:46Speaker 2: and you've been out with her and you know she
- 40:48Speaker 2: can be a little crazy, a little rowdy. And you
- 40:51Speaker 2: know when these two break up, it's not going to
- 40:54Speaker 2: be over at a therapist couch that this marriage is annulled.
- 40:59Speaker 2: This is gonna be on the street, yelling and screaming.
- 41:02Speaker 2: And that's what's happening currently in South Beach. It's a
- 41:05Speaker 2: yelling and screaming and all out brawl. So the Miami
- 41:09Speaker 2: Heat have to move off of Butler, and according to reports,
- 41:13Speaker 2: there's of course the Phoenix Suns who have been linked
- 41:16Speaker 2: closest to him. But again, they have to make the
- 41:18Speaker 2: money work. They don't have a ton of draft stock.
- 41:22Speaker 2: They have a lot of picks. They traded for three
- 41:24Speaker 2: first from the Utah Jazz for they're thirty to thirty one. First,
- 41:29Speaker 2: they're trying to get some sort of collection, going to
- 41:33Speaker 2: move and make a move, to make a move, but
- 41:36Speaker 2: again you have to convince Bradley Beal to opt out
- 41:39Speaker 2: of that no trade clause in his contract. I don't
- 41:43Speaker 2: think that the deal is gonna get done with the
- 41:45Speaker 2: Phoenix Suns. However, the team that is now being connected,
- 41:50Speaker 2: and honestly it makes a ton of sense, is the
- 41:56Speaker 2: Memphis Grizzlies. Think about the grit, the grind, the hustle
- 42:03Speaker 2: that Jimmy Butler plays with that this is a guy
- 42:05Speaker 2: who's undersized. The guy who went in the second round,
- 42:10Speaker 2: didn't go to a big school, went to Marquette, not
- 42:13Speaker 2: a not a premiere star in this league until he
- 42:17Speaker 2: was already well into his prime. Memphis is the three
- 42:22Speaker 2: seed currently in the West at thirty one and sixteen.
- 42:25Speaker 2: The team's ahead of them the Houston Rockets and the
- 42:28Speaker 2: Oklahoma City Thunder. I like Oklahoma City SGA is my guy.
- 42:32Speaker 2: I think he's an MVP candidate. And Houston has done
- 42:34Speaker 2: it a marvelous job at a rebuild with imy A
- 42:38Speaker 2: Dooku and Amen Thompson and that and Jalen Green.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Great rebuild.
- 42:44Speaker 2: But in a playoff series, if you're looking down the
- 42:48Speaker 2: pipeline and you got Jahn Morant and Jimmy Butler and
- 42:53Speaker 2: then in the back Jalen Jackson Junior and Zach Edy,
- 42:57Speaker 2: that's a very physical team. That's a team that you're
- 43:00Speaker 2: not going to want to put or try to get
- 43:02Speaker 2: into a rock fight with. In this trade scenario, this
- 43:06Speaker 2: is what ESPN has kind of laid out. Memphis would
- 43:10Speaker 2: move off of Marcus Smart, Brandon Clark, and John Kocher
- 43:13Speaker 2: and a top twenty twenty five eight round or top.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Eight protected pick.
- 43:18Speaker 2: So you'd send a pickoff, Memphis would receive Jimmy Butler
- 43:22Speaker 2: and Josh Richardson a little bit more help in that
- 43:25Speaker 2: on the wings again, Butler does not want to be
- 43:29Speaker 2: in Miami anymore. Send it to Memphis makes sense. And
- 43:32Speaker 2: then the third team in this trade to make the
- 43:35Speaker 2: money work, Luke Cunard goes to Washington for a twenty
- 43:38Speaker 2: twenty six second round pick and cash. That's currently right
- 43:42Speaker 2: now what ESPN is reporting as the most likely situation
- 43:48Speaker 2: for Jimmy Butler, which tells me all I need to
- 43:50Speaker 2: hear from what Brian Windhorse said that this is an
- 43:54Speaker 2: open market now for Butler, that the asking price for
- 43:57Speaker 2: the distress asset has lowered. In fact, earlier breaking news
- 44:01Speaker 2: from ESPN, the Kings are expected to be open talks
- 44:04Speaker 2: for the Aaron Fox. So as the February sixth trade
- 44:09Speaker 2: deadline approaches, I imagine a lot of these stars or
- 44:13Speaker 2: guys who are going to be looking for those next
- 44:15Speaker 2: big contracts are going to be available, all right when
- 44:18Speaker 2: we come back. Schlostagel first year at the Helm for
- 44:23Speaker 2: the University of Texas baseball program. It's not a rebuild,
- 44:26Speaker 2: it's a reload. UT Baseball rank fourteenth in the Baseball
- 44:30Speaker 2: America preseason poll.
- 44:32Speaker 1: We'll get into it. Next to the Craigway Show.
- 44:33Speaker 2: I'm Andrew Zimbile filling in for Craig Way on Sports
- 44:36Speaker 2: Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone. I am Andrew Zimble filling
- 44:39Speaker 2: in for Craig Way as Craig and Cameron travel to
- 44:42Speaker 2: Old Miss UT men's basketball on the air tomorrow night.
- 44:46Speaker 2: The Zone, KVET FM and one O three one are
- 44:49Speaker 2: where you can listen to the game or on the
- 44:51Speaker 2: Longhorn Radio Network eight pm. Wednesday night tip so UT
- 44:57Speaker 2: baseball new era underway with head coach Jim Slashsnankele. University
- 45:04Speaker 2: of Texas was ranked this past week in the preseason
- 45:10Speaker 2: Top fifteen, number fourteen in Baseball America's preseason poll. The
- 45:15Speaker 2: University of Texas baseball team collected its third preseason Top
- 45:19Speaker 2: twenty five ranking Monday, checking in at fourteen. UT was
- 45:22Speaker 2: previously slotted seventh by Perfect Game and nineteenth by D
- 45:27Speaker 2: one Baseball. Texas is one of nine programs from the
- 45:30Speaker 2: SEC listed in D one Baseball's Top twenty five joining
- 45:35Speaker 2: number one Texas A and M, number two, LSU, number three, Tennessee,
- 45:40Speaker 2: number four Arkansas. So your top four teams all playing
- 45:44Speaker 2: in the SEC. Number eleven Georgia, number fifteen, Vanderbilt, number
- 45:48Speaker 2: eighteen Mississippi State, and number twenty Kentucky. The Longhorns begin
- 45:54Speaker 2: their first campaign under the direction of head coach Jim Slowsnangle.
- 45:59Speaker 1: He's a mass a nine to.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Forty six and four point fifty five record over his
- 46:05Speaker 2: previous twenty three seasons as a collegiate manager. That includes
- 46:09Speaker 2: an eighteen year stint at TCU and three seasons at
- 46:13Speaker 2: Texas A and M, where he finished as a runner
- 46:16Speaker 2: up for the College World Series. The ABCA Hall of
- 46:21Speaker 2: Fame coach was advanced to the College World Series seven
- 46:23Speaker 2: times and reached the nca NCAA Tournament nineteen times. And
- 46:30Speaker 2: this is what's really big is the return of two
- 46:35Speaker 2: outstanding preseason All Americans in Max Blue and Jalen Flores.
- 46:40Speaker 2: They collected their second preseason All American honors earlier last week,
- 46:44Speaker 2: earning third team distinctions from Division One Baseball last Tuesday.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Blue and Flores also garnered first team from Perfect Game
- 46:53Speaker 2: Earlier in the offseason Following the twenty twenty fourth season,
- 46:55Speaker 2: Blue was tabbed as the Big twelve Player of the Year,
- 46:58Speaker 2: merging as one of the top hitters in the country.
- 47:01Speaker 2: As a sophomore, Blues slashed a three twenty nine, four,
- 47:05Speaker 2: twenty three, six sixty seven with eighteen round trippers and
- 47:11Speaker 2: fifty three RBIs. Six foot two, two ten outfielder paced
- 47:16Speaker 2: the long horns and slugging in ops while matching Flores
- 47:20Speaker 2: in home runs. The consensus All American a year ago,
- 47:23Speaker 2: Flores cemented himself as one of the best offensive shortstops nationally.
- 47:27Speaker 2: This is a position that the University of Texas has
- 47:29Speaker 2: been very good at over their history. Flora tallied a
- 47:33Speaker 2: team high twenty two RBIs and fifty six or twenty
- 47:37Speaker 2: two doubles and fifty six RBIs, while leading the club
- 47:40Speaker 2: in home runs and total bases with a one hundred
- 47:43Speaker 2: and fifty eight. Of course, he's a native of my
- 47:45Speaker 2: hometown in San Antonio, Texas. He made guided Texas to
- 47:50Speaker 2: their sixty third NCAA tournament appearance. Now Jim Slosnagle was
- 47:55Speaker 2: on MLB's hot stove earlier this month. This is from
- 47:59Speaker 2: January seventeenth, talking about taking over the University of Texas
- 48:04Speaker 2: baseball program and some of the expectations for said program.
- 48:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean this is a place that Texas is,
- 48:12Speaker 5: you know, kind of like the Yankees. I think have
- 48:14Speaker 5: been in the most Major League World Series. Texas has
- 48:16Speaker 5: been to omahall thirty eight times, which is I think
- 48:19Speaker 5: twelve or thirteen more than the next.
- 48:20Speaker 7: Close to school. I think I'm the sixth or.
- 48:24Speaker 5: Seventh coach in the last one hundred years, and four
- 48:27Speaker 5: of those guys are Hall of Fame coaches and one
- 48:30Speaker 5: and have won national titles. So David Pierce, the coach
- 48:33Speaker 5: before me, did a great job. I think if you
- 48:36Speaker 5: take out Covid, he went to Omaha three times in
- 48:39Speaker 5: six or seven years. So this isn't obviously a rebuild
- 48:42Speaker 5: when you're at Texas, but the standards are high.
- 48:46Speaker 7: Texas hasn't won a national title.
- 48:47Speaker 5: Since Houston Street and his team in two thousand and
- 48:50Speaker 5: five in Augie, Grito, and so it's just an honor
- 48:54Speaker 5: to be here and try and get Texas back to
- 48:59Speaker 5: Omaha and to the final game and finally win that thing.
- 49:03Speaker 5: And that's the standard here. Obviously, college baseball has changed
- 49:07Speaker 5: so much just in the last five years. I think
- 49:09Speaker 5: we're in the golden age of college baseball with the
- 49:12Speaker 5: limited draft and limited minor league teams, so the level
- 49:15Speaker 5: of play is so high, and so the water is very,
- 49:19Speaker 5: very deep.
- 49:20Speaker 7: And this is also our first year in the SEC, so.
- 49:23Speaker 5: That's a new challenge and an exciting thing to take
- 49:26Speaker 5: Texas into the SEC in the very first year.
- 49:30Speaker 2: So a lot to get into there. I want to
- 49:32Speaker 2: start with the comparison to the New York Yankees, which,
- 49:36Speaker 2: let me tell you, as a Yankee fan, I love
- 49:38Speaker 2: to hear that. I love when anybody is compared to
- 49:41Speaker 2: the Yankee. So this is the standard of excellence.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I love that.
- 49:43Speaker 2: But for college baseball, that really means something. Now, going
- 49:48Speaker 2: off of coach Lashnagle's point that this is the golden
- 49:51Speaker 2: age of college baseball, it's a very interesting take when
- 49:55Speaker 2: you look at nil and you look at the amount
- 49:59Speaker 2: of extra eligible guys potentially could have now, especially with
- 50:02Speaker 2: the new junior college rule that that does not necessarily
- 50:06Speaker 2: take a knock on your eligibility, you really could be
- 50:09Speaker 2: creating true minor league baseball teams at the collegiate level.
- 50:14Speaker 2: When you look at the amount of guys who could
- 50:18Speaker 2: start at the University of Texas when they're let's say,
- 50:21Speaker 2: eighteen nineteen twenty years old. Now you're going to have
- 50:25Speaker 2: spots across the board at different universities where we don't
- 50:29Speaker 2: really need an eighteen nineteen twenty year old. We have
- 50:31Speaker 2: a twenty three year old shortstop who has a lot
- 50:33Speaker 2: of nil money.
- 50:35Speaker 1: We will see.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Time will tell when it comes to if this truly
- 50:38Speaker 2: is the golden age of college baseball. I'm going to
- 50:42Speaker 2: hold judgment until we have a season of this underneath
- 50:45Speaker 2: our belt.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Maybe we need more than just one.
- 50:47Speaker 2: We might need two or three seasons to truly know
- 50:50Speaker 2: where college baseball is going. Finally, though, I do want
- 50:55Speaker 2: to point out that the SEC again, when the University
- 50:58Speaker 2: of Texas made the decision to jump to the SEC
- 51:01Speaker 2: to join the Southeastern Conference. Obviously, obviously it was a
- 51:07Speaker 2: good decision, But man, oh man, is this turned into
- 51:13Speaker 2: the best collegiate athletic conference in college sports? Like, no question,
- 51:20Speaker 2: no doubt about it. How good of a just from
- 51:25Speaker 2: top to bottom across men's and women's sports. I want
- 51:28Speaker 2: to repeat though Division one again, preseason rankings they're just
- 51:32Speaker 2: preseason rankings. There's something you put on the bulletin board
- 51:34Speaker 2: if you're not ranked in that top twenty five, but
- 51:37Speaker 2: to have four of the top five teams come out
- 51:40Speaker 2: of the Southeastern Conference and like seven of the top
- 51:44Speaker 2: twenty five teams come out of the SEC, including the
- 51:48Speaker 2: University of Texas, that is truly the most impressive. I
- 51:52Speaker 2: think stat and I think that that says tells the
- 51:55Speaker 2: whole story for where this conference is, especially on the
- 51:59Speaker 2: baseball side. All right, when we come back, xamvier Worthy,
- 52:03Speaker 2: they don't want me or they didn't want me. We
- 52:06Speaker 2: will go through some of those rookie wide receivers who
- 52:09Speaker 2: Xavier Worthy outpaced this year with the Kantasy A Chiefs
- 52:13Speaker 2: as his Chiefs go to the Super Bowl.
- 52:15Speaker 1: Next.
- 52:15Speaker 2: In the Craigway Show, Andrews will fill you in for
- 52:17Speaker 2: Craig Way on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 52:20Speaker 2: I am Andrew Zimmel filling in for one Craig Way.
- 52:24Speaker 2: You can follow me on all the socials, all of
- 52:27Speaker 2: the socials, Andrew Zimmel z I M M E L
- 52:31Speaker 2: even on Blue Sky in threads. Yeah, I'm one of
- 52:34Speaker 2: those early adapters. I'm everywhere all right, Hour three jam Packed.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Trey Johnson SEC Freshmen of the Week spoke with the
- 52:44Speaker 2: media today talked a lot about his weightlifting. Funny enough,
- 52:49Speaker 2: you know a lot of people don't think basketball players
- 52:51Speaker 2: lift weights. Check yourself at the door because these guys
- 52:56Speaker 2: getting in the gym getting the pump. Sim Also, where
- 53:00Speaker 2: oh where will Jimmy Butler go? As the saga continues
- 53:04Speaker 2: and we see more and more NBA superstars on the
- 53:07Speaker 2: market end, we got to talk about the big d
- 53:12Speaker 2: Dallas Cowboys, and that's where we're gonna start our number three.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Jerry Jones had one of the best toys in the sport,
- 53:20Speaker 2: the Dallas Cowboys, bought them and has since probably wants
- 53:27Speaker 2: to replace them and return them because he has broken
- 53:30Speaker 2: the toy and I'm wondering if he's broken it beyond repair. Now,
- 53:35Speaker 2: I do want to point this out and put a
- 53:38Speaker 2: medical warning label on Jerry Jones, because at some point
- 53:43Speaker 2: we need to have the tough conversation about Jerry Jones'
- 53:48Speaker 2: mental capacity or has made mental capabilities here as the
- 53:52Speaker 2: owner of the Cowboys, Jerry Jones currently eighty two years old,
- 53:57Speaker 2: right around the same time that we took the keys
- 53:59Speaker 2: from my grand I look at Stephen Jones as well.
- 54:02Speaker 1: He's not a spring chicken either.
- 54:05Speaker 2: I'm worried about where this organization is and the leadership,
- 54:09Speaker 2: and I'm not the first person, and it feels like
- 54:12Speaker 2: we're kind of going in circles when it talks about
- 54:14Speaker 2: the Cowboys, because we can complain and we can talk,
- 54:17Speaker 2: and we can do all this stuff and nothing really
- 54:20Speaker 2: will change. Unless you're Jeff Bezos or Mark Zuckerberg and
- 54:25Speaker 2: you want to make a bid for the Dallas Cowboys,
- 54:29Speaker 2: you're not really gonna do anything different. You really can't
- 54:32Speaker 2: change how this organization is functioning. So because you can't
- 54:37Speaker 2: get off the ride, you just got to enjoy it.
- 54:39Speaker 2: And I want to start with this quote from the
- 54:42Speaker 2: press conference yesterday, arguably my mind, the funniest of the
- 54:46Speaker 2: quotes that you could possibly give if you are Jerry
- 54:51Speaker 2: Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Here it is Jerry One. Here's the cut.
- 54:55Speaker 10: As a matter of fact, I wanted to be a coach,
- 54:58Speaker 10: except I wanted to live better than I thought coaches lived.
- 55:01Speaker 10: I wanted to drive a little bigger car, and I
- 55:03Speaker 10: wanted to fly in an airplane. Had I known what
- 55:07Speaker 10: I'm paying him now to have been a damn coach.
- 55:11Speaker 2: See that's the part to me that it is just
- 55:14Speaker 2: the funniest part because it really gets down to the
- 55:16Speaker 2: root of the issue. If you go back and you
- 55:19Speaker 2: read any of the books written about this time period
- 55:21Speaker 2: when Jerry Jones bought the team, fires Tom Blandry, hires
- 55:25Speaker 2: his buddy Jimmy Johnson out of Miami, you read any
- 55:28Speaker 2: of the books that it was a very good marriage,
- 55:31Speaker 2: and well, let's say it was a marriage of opportunity, right,
- 55:35Speaker 2: Jimmy Johnson wanted to be an NFL head coach and
- 55:38Speaker 2: Jerry Jones wanted to own an NFL team, and he
- 55:40Speaker 2: needed to have somebody coaching on the sideline. So it
- 55:42Speaker 2: was almost a marriage of convenience between two guys. And
- 55:48Speaker 2: the marriage started to fall apart when Jerry wanted to
- 55:52Speaker 2: have a little bit more of the football than he
- 55:58Speaker 2: probably originally told Jimmy jo he was gonna have, which
- 56:01Speaker 2: has led now to twenty nine years of missing the
- 56:05Speaker 2: NFC Championship game. That to me, and again there's much
- 56:10Speaker 2: to be said about Dallas Cowboys, that to me is
- 56:13Speaker 2: like the most glaring thing because if you said, hey,
- 56:16Speaker 2: it's been you know, thirty years since the Cowboys have
- 56:19Speaker 2: played for a Super Bowl, I would say, you know what,
- 56:21Speaker 2: that is a tough spot. But there's a lot of
- 56:23Speaker 2: organizations who are in similar votes. There's a lot of
- 56:27Speaker 2: organizations who are in similar situations that. Yeah, they're proud organizations.
- 56:31Speaker 2: They're organizations who have won and competed for championships. But
- 56:34Speaker 2: think about the degree BIA Packers. Packers won the title
- 56:37Speaker 2: in twenty eleven haven't been back to the Super Bowl since.
- 56:41Speaker 2: There is a lot of organization, a lot of teams
- 56:43Speaker 2: who are Title town USA that don't get back to
- 56:47Speaker 2: even having a chance to play for a super Bowl.
- 56:50Speaker 2: But not even having a chance to play for an
- 56:53Speaker 2: NFC title, that is unacceptable.
- 56:58Speaker 1: That is the biggest issue.
- 57:00Speaker 2: Now. Many have said that Jerry Jones needs everything to
- 57:05Speaker 2: be set up for him, that he does not want
- 57:08Speaker 2: to be uncomfortable, and he put all of those rumors
- 57:10Speaker 2: to rest.
- 57:12Speaker 10: Now I get my verbial ass kick over needing people
- 57:15Speaker 10: in my comfort zone without this thing being about me
- 57:18Speaker 10: in any way. If you don't think I can operate
- 57:21Speaker 10: out my comfort zone, you're so wrong. It's unbelievable. This
- 57:26Speaker 10: is as big a risk as you could take, as
- 57:29Speaker 10: big a risk as you could take. No head coaching
- 57:32Speaker 10: experience that let me share something with you with all
- 57:35Speaker 10: of that you've just heard him reference his osmosis, his family.
- 57:39Speaker 10: Anybody in this room that doesn't believe the apple doesn't
- 57:42Speaker 10: go far from the tree has missed it someplace down
- 57:44Speaker 10: the road, especially if there was an effort to make
- 57:46Speaker 10: it that way, and there was an effort. But then
- 57:48Speaker 10: you go around to the countless numbers of coaches that
- 57:51Speaker 10: Shody has served on staff with and been around the
- 57:54Speaker 10: countless players. How often do you have someone that has
- 57:59Speaker 10: twenty five I want to say twenty five. It may
- 58:01Speaker 10: be twenty six of years of working through the human
- 58:06Speaker 10: relationship and working aspiring to learn of his ears and
- 58:11Speaker 10: eyes wide open and looking for techniques and looking for
- 58:14Speaker 10: things that coaches better.
- 58:17Speaker 2: So, first off, I don't want to make this about me,
- 58:20Speaker 2: and then proceeds to make it about himself. Nothing new
- 58:23Speaker 2: from Jerry Jones, That's fine. Also shotting he might be
- 58:29Speaker 2: a because we all know where this is going. I
- 58:31Speaker 2: think anybody with a juvenile sense of mind, juvenile sense
- 58:35Speaker 2: of humor knows exactly where the New York posts, where
- 58:41Speaker 2: some of those tabloids will go. The minute of the
- 58:44Speaker 2: Dallas Cowboys have one poor performance, we all know where
- 58:49Speaker 2: this was going. I don't need to say it. Brian
- 58:52Speaker 2: Schottenheimer needs to come up with a better nickname. He
- 58:54Speaker 2: needs to do something really cool, maybe like Falcon or
- 58:57Speaker 2: Eagle or something. He can't be Ranger even he cannot
- 59:01Speaker 2: go by Shoddy as the nickname for your head coach. Also,
- 59:06Speaker 2: I'm okay with taking being out of my comfort zone.
- 59:10Speaker 2: I'm okay with making a risk. I heard this comparison
- 59:13Speaker 2: yesterday and I really really like it. Firing Mike McCarthy,
- 59:18Speaker 2: you're not firing him, but allowing him to walk out
- 59:20Speaker 2: the door, not giving a contract extension to your former
- 59:24Speaker 2: head coach, a head coach who, statistically speaking and going
- 59:27Speaker 2: off wins, was one of the more winning coaches in
- 59:31Speaker 2: Cowboys history, and one of the more winning coaches during
- 59:34Speaker 2: this Jerry Jones era of owning the team. Mike McCarthy was, again,
- 59:40Speaker 2: you take the name off, and you take the success.
- 59:43Speaker 2: You take all of the stuff, all the baggage off,
- 59:46Speaker 2: and you only look at the wins and losses. He
- 59:49Speaker 2: wasn't a bad head coach for Jerry Jones era. So
- 59:53Speaker 2: Tom Landry is no Jimmy Johnson, not even really Berry Switzer.
- 59:57Speaker 2: But he's still in that conversation, you can still make
- 59:59Speaker 2: a case he would be a top five coach in
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: the Jimmy or in the in the Jerry Jones era.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: But what you did when you got rid of Mike McCarthy,
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: the guy who built this entire staff, who got the
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: playbook together, who influenced a lot of the personnel decisions,
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: when you got rid of him, it's essentially like going
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: to a restaurant and buying a restaurant and firing the
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: head chef and then making the sioux chef the head chef.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Well, why did we get rid of the guy.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Who built this entire staff, who created all the ingredients,
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: who made all the plays. We got rid of that
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: guy and we brought the second guy up.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Okay, got it, Jerry, Okay, it makes sense. Uh huh,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: that's fine.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: And uh, when when does the pudding come to the room,
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: because that's what it feels like. Finally, Jerry talks about
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: the risk that he took. Now again he said earlier,
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: He's okay getting out of this conference zone. He's okay
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: taking risks. He says he took a big risk with Schottenheimer.
- 1:00:59Speaker 10: I've read where I don't have a pension for risk taking.
- 1:01:03Speaker 10: If you really knew my score sheet, you would see
- 1:01:07Speaker 10: that I've taken more risk in the last five years
- 1:01:09Speaker 10: than the rest of my life put together. And sometimes
- 1:01:12Speaker 10: I don't know when I look down mirrorand why the
- 1:01:14Speaker 10: risk is taken with it there, let me say this,
- 1:01:18Speaker 10: it was a huge risk to get involved with the
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: Dallas Cowboys, huge and a lot of people that quote
- 1:01:25Speaker 10: unquote didn't understand or feel like.
- 1:01:28Speaker 7: It could be done.
- 1:01:30Speaker 10: I spent a nice part, Jim Calishaw, you remember it.
- 1:01:34Speaker 10: I spent a nice part of my early four or
- 1:01:36Speaker 10: five years with the Dallas Cowboys defending why not coach
- 1:01:40Speaker 10: Landry and defending why Jimmy would make a good coach.
- 1:01:44Speaker 10: I think one time I said, these worth five Heisman
- 1:01:46Speaker 10: Trophies to.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Be a good coach? Did I know?
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: No? But I knew Jimmy.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:01:52Speaker 10: Had I interviewed countless thousands of coaches?
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: No?
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: No, not at all. So what I'm here to tell.
- 1:01:58Speaker 10: You is this was a thorough, thorough process.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: It was a thorough, thorough process.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: As I hired somebody who was in the building with me,
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: who was with the team the whole season, who I
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: saw up close and personal. For my press box, what
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: this team was now to be fair to Brian Schottenheimer.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: He seems like a nice enough guy to be fair
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: to the Dallas Cowboys. This season, they were without Dak Prescott,
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: and whether you're a Dak Denier or a Dak Truther,
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: you will agree that not having your starting quarterback kind
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: of a big deal in the NFL. But Jerry said
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: something very interesting there. He said that he's taken a
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: lot of risks over the last five years, and I
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: would like to know. I wish he would have expounded
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: on what those risks were. I would like him to
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: point out the risk. Was it a risk to draft
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: running back in the first round in twenty sixteen with
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Ezekiel Elliott? Was it a risk to hand and the
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: reigns over to d Cooda Prescott Dak Prescott a fourth
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: round draft pick his rookie year. Or is he talking
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: about the risk of not keeping some of those guys
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: in house and the risk of not giving Dak the
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: protection that he really needs and letting that team age
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: out when it comes to the most important positions, the
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: offensive and defensive line. I would like to know the
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: risks that he was taking, because there's a lot of
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: very questionable decisions that any other general manager might not
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: keep his job for.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Are those the.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Risks that Jerry Jones is speaking of? Could that be
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: the risk? And to that lane, I would say, sometimes
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: it's better to be smart as a general manager. It's
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: better to be risk avert as a general manager. Take
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: the best available player if you will, or not try
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: to make a big, splashing free agent signing this organization.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: The Dallas Cowboys are currently ranked the most profitable, the
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: most valuable North American franchise. But I tell all of
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: my cowboy friends this, it's a new day in America.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: There is a new generation of sports fans out here,
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: and it's not a guarantee that you will continue to
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: be the most valuable franchise if you do not win anything.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: The kids like a winner. The kids like the Kandasine Chiefs.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: The kids like the New England Patriots. The kids do
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: not like a team that finishes five and eleven every year.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: And we will see what Schottenheimer's the first season looks like.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: But I will say, for an introductory press conference, felt
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: like a five and eleven type of season. When we
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: come back. Trey Johnson, SEC Freshman of the Week, talked
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: to the media. We will play that audio for you
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: next to the Craigway Show. I'm Andrew zim Will filling
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: in for Craig Way on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: The Zone. I am Andrew zim will filling in for
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Craig Way and Cameron Parker this Tuesday Day afternoon.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: I will be honest with you.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: When they gave me the schedule for men's basketball, I
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: was saying to myself, like, oh, okay, well, Craig and
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: camera out on Wednesday and they're playing Old Miss.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Okay, so today's Wednesday.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: I completely skipped over Tuesday, completely skipped over. I wrote
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: some checks today and put the twenty ninth. I thought
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: today was Wednesday the entire day. So hopefully you were
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: having a more put together Tuesday than I am having
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: this Tuesday.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: So let us talk about it.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: So Trey Johnson sec Freshman of the Week no surprise
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: here after the freshman guard had one of his best
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: games of his collegiate career this past weekend. Played all
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: twenty minutes of the second half of Saturday's victory over
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Texas A and M, where Tray Johnson helped the Longhorns
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: rally back from a twenty two point deficit with seventeen
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: minutes remaining in the game. It tied the program's largest
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: comeback victory since at least the start of the ninety
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: eight to ninety nine season.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Retorted twenty four points.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: In that second half and on the season, Johnson leads
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the SEC in scoring, has posted six twenty point games
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: this season. But the University of Texas currently sits in
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: the middle of the SEC conference right so three and
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: four in conference fourteen and six overall currently unreanked out
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: of the top twenty five. The teams ahead of them, oh,
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: just Auburn, Alabama, Missouri, Florida, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Texas
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: A and M old miss and Kentucky.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: It is a long jam in the SEC.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: And nobody would know better than ESPN bracketologist Joe Lonardi,
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: who has or has a ut currently as his last
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: four in on his conference breakdown that he put out
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: on X earlier today. Now, Lenardi was on ESPN's College
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: basket Ball Show, and you talked about Texas being one
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: of the last four. And now remember this audio is
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: prior to the win against Texas A and M. So
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: it's going to sound a little dated, but the facts
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: are still the facts here.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: I've been keeping my eye on Texas.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: It's hard not.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: To keep your eye on these quote unquote down ballot
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: games in the SEC because there's so many good teams.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: Texas one of the last four in As. We start
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: a very busy Saturday, and they won't hold that spot
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: unless they're able to win at home. A and M
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: pretty good road trip thus far, escaping Ole miss the
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: other night and cementing for themselves a top four seeds,
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: so that among many if you can't decide which channel
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: to watch on a busy Saturday, the SEC is probably not.
- 1:07:53Speaker 7: A bad place to start.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Now again, I say the SEC jam packed, log jammed,
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: however you want to say it. In this conference the
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: best basketball conference in the country. Lenardi was asked about
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: the SEC potentially breaking the Big East records for the
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: number of bids potentially in March madness. I think it is,
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: and I understand all of the beating one another up
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: and taking on extra losses, but the committee has proven
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: that in evaluating quad one records of teams, there is
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: much interested in quantity as quality. You know, we once
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: saw Trey Young and Oklahoma get in with a four
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: and eleven record in Quad one and a seven and
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: eleven record in the Big Twelve, So I don't think
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: that's going to be a problem for most of the
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: middle teams in the SEC.
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: Texas is actually the thirteenth team in the field as
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: we begin play today. Now, I don't think it's going
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: to be that high, but I do think it will
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: tie or crack the record of eleven teams from the
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: Big East back in twenty eleven and down. I'll just
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: say this, you know, I don't think Texas is a
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: Final four team, but they have players.
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: And if you're.
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: The thirteenth best team in the league as Texas, it's
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: a pretty good league.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Yeah, no kidding, speaking of a pretty good league in
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: the University of Texas men's basketball team takes on Old
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Miss tomorrow. That's another top twenty five team for you.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: They're coming off of two wins, a win against Missouri
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: again a top twenty five team, and a win against
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: Texas A and M. Going into this Old Miss game tomorrow,
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: and freshman SEC player of the Week Trey Johnson got
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: asked about that and about the coming off these two wins.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: The sense of confidence do you feel more confident. Does
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: the team feel more confident coming into this last stretch
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: of games in the month of January.
- 1:09:58Speaker 7: I don't.
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: I don't think the confidence ever left us left us
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: as a team.
- 1:10:02Speaker 7: I feel like we just know how to win more.
- 1:10:04Speaker 6: We just know what's going to take and what we
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: have to do, and we know our identity better now
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: from our few games, knowing that we got to play
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: defense to what we've been playing lately if we want
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: to shot at winning. So I feel like our confidence
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: has always been there. We just know different things and
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: how to approach the game better.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: Now they're gonna have to come with confidence because after
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: Old miss it go to bat and rouge to take
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: on LSU at home against Arkansas. But that's really when
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: this conference schedule gets difficult. Games in Nashville, games at
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: home against Alabama and Kentucky. This is not a schedule
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: that you want to turn your nose up at all.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: By the way, in between all those yet John calap
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Party's Arkansas team comes to town, this is going to
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: be a bloodbath down the way. The thing though, is
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: it's not only difficult for the University of Texas, It's
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: going to be difficult for everybody going forward.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: So it's good that Johnson and co.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: Feel like they have confidence going into this last stretch
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: of games before we get into March madness. Sow, the
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: question was asked, how excited are you to go play
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Old Miss tomorrow.
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: We're very excited to go down there and play just
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: because the next game, we know the relationship between both programs,
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: and we know that they came off a few losses,
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: that they're gonna be kind of a desperate team trying to
- 1:11:21Speaker 6: get back going and get started, and plus.
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: It's kind of like a rivalry game.
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: I could say, just being ready to go down there
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: and know that there's gonna be punches and run their
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: home floor so we might not get calls, and being
- 1:11:31Speaker 6: ready to go through any type of adversity.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Which is partly true.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: And that has been a big conversation not only about
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: the Longhorns basketball program, but across the board. It feels
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: like there's more and more fans who really put the
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: fan in fanatic. They get the tenfoil hats out and
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: they want to dissect every single play. Was really cool.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: I don't think all right, let me rephrase that. I
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: think it's cool at any point when an idol or
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: an alumni reaches back out, it doubles when that alumni
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: is Kevin Durant, a multi time MVP, a multi time
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: champion and gold medal winner, and arguably the best player
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: to come through the University of Texas basketball program. He
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: was asked Trey Johnson, did you see Durant's post? And
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: have you talked to him at all this season?
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: I saw somebody had a sentence to me. I talked
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: to him. I talked to him.
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: Whenever I reach out, I would say, like, if I
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: reach out, here respond back. I haven't reached out this
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: season though, just because we're both in season, and plus
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: I really ain't gotten to to talk about.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: I love that I got nothing to talk about. Look,
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: this basketball team could have a lot to talk about
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: come March. At that point I imagine that he will
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: be talking to Kevin Duran a little bit more. The
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: follow up question though, to Johnson, when you saw the post,
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: what'd you think?
- 1:12:56Speaker 6: I just thought it was cool to see him still
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: having a busys when he got still in tune with
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: game college basketball games. He'd be watching the girls games too,
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: So I feel like that's really cool off him as
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: an NBA player having a busy schedule still being able
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: to watch college basketball.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Now, it's been said the freshman wall is a real thing.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: You got guys who are eighteen years old, nineteen years old,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: play a good AAU schedule, play a very good high
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: school schedule, but it's a different grind in the SEC.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: Have you hit the freshman wall?
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: We too deep into the season to be trying to
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: find the wall, So I hope I'm not gonna see
- 1:13:32Speaker 6: no wall no time soon. But I just feel like
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: I haves mumpson downs throughout the season.
- 1:13:37Speaker 7: I don't think it will be I don't think.
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: About hitting the wall because I just know there's so
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: many other things I could be doing. So even if
- 1:13:44Speaker 6: I am hitting the wall with any aspect of my game,
- 1:13:46Speaker 6: just still doing other things to help win games or
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: help the team better be my main thing.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: And finally, Kirk Bowls, longtime reporter covering the University of Texas,
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: asked maybe my favorite question this athletic season. Do you
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: lift weights? And how about that bench? Let's hear from
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: Kirk here.
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: I do like lyfting weights. That was I used to
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: lift a lot growing up. We'll not growing up, but
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: like in high school. I used to I used to
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: lift a lot. I do intoor lifting weights.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: What's your bench what's your bench press?
- 1:14:19Speaker 7: That's one thing I don't like getting up under. I
- 1:14:20Speaker 7: don't like getting up under.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: That bitch, I love it.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: That's again, it's been a criticism of basketball players since
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: the beginning of time about lifting weights and then getting
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: on that bench press. Look, I understand Trey Johnson. I'm
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: not a big bench guy either myself. But I will
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: tell you who is Kirk Balls on the Zoom call
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: during the media he showed us the pythons do not
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: mess with him.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: He is.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: He looks like he goes to the gym multiple times
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: a day. Giant guy. All right, So when we come back,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: we will talk about the saga of Jimmy Butler. Where,
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: oh where will Jimmy Butler land? The Miami Heat superstar
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: going through a nasty divorce? But what do you expect
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: anything different from South Beach? Next on the Craigways Show,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: I'm Andrew Zimbol filling in for Craig on Sports Radio
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: AM thirteen hundred Zone. Andrew Zimbol filling in for Craig Way.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: As we continue with our three of the program. If
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: you've missed any of the Craig Ways show, or maybe
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: you miss a show earlier this week, do not fret.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: You can go back and listen to the podcast version.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: We do a good job of chopping it up for
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: you on the free and newly improved I Heart Radio app.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Let me tell you, I have been using the iHeart
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Radio app now for the past couple of years and
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: it is a life sent I absolutely love. What I
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: do is I play a radio roulette. I go to
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: the different radio dials and I listen to different sports
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: talk shows from different markets. And what I've currently been doing,
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: my favorite little pastime is I listen to postgame coverage
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: for teams that lose. So I wanted to hear recently
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: the Denver Nuggets and I was able to on the
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: iHeart Radio app. I was able to listen after their
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: loss on Saturday to the Minnesota Timberwolves. I got to
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: listen to their postgame guys try to copy them the
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: loss out and oh, you know we're gonna be okay.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: We have Jokic.
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: So on the NBA scale, Jimmy Butler is essentially the
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: most distressed asset in the world. He has been now
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: suspended two three different times now for the Miami Heat organization,
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: and they are trying to find a trade partner to
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: send him on his merry way to get him out
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: of South Beach in what has been a very ugly way.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: To do things right.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: So first you got the Miami Heater suspending him because
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: he's walking out of practice, and then Jimmy Butler is
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: taking all these side shots, and then the entire time,
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: teammates are going on social media kind of having fun
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: with it because they know that it's a little bit
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: of a circus that they've walked themselves into. You got
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Kevin Love on Instagram posting memes and posting different things.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: This entire situation is so opposite of what Miami Heat
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: culture is supposed to be that is again turned into
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: a caricature of itself. But during the show, while we
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: were talking Jimmy Butler, news broke that darn Fox is
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: potentially open for talks and the Kings are open for
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: talks to move him by that February sixth deadline. According
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: to Shams earlier today, Fox twenty seven has one year
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: left on his contract before he hits free agency in
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: twenty twenty six now again All Star, a guy who
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: has played very well. He was a Clutch Player of
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: the Year a couple of years ago. There'll be plenty
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: of suitors for Fox, who made an All NBA appearance
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: in the twenty two to twenty three season. But it's believed,
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: and this is what's interesting, that the San Antonio Spurs.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: The San Antonio Spurs are atop his list of but
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Therred landing spots. According to league sources, Fox's representation, Clutch
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: Sports and Rich Paul have a target destination head of
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: his free agency, those sources say.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: The Kings fired their head coach Mike Brown last month
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: after the team appeared to be falling short of expectations.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: Since then, the Kings have won eleven of their past
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: fifteen games under interim coach Doug Christi. Now the Miami
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: or the Sacramento Kings. Former coach Mike Brown has a
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: unique connection to Greg Popovich, as he was on the
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: Popovich staff for a while. That kind of makes me
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: scratch my head a little bit. And then there's also
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: reports coming out of San Antonio that it's again reported
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: that there might have been a Popovich sighting at the
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: practice facility What could all this mean? Could there be Tawks?
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: Could there be a trade in the works to bring
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: the Aaron Fox to San Antonio. Currently, the Kings are
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: the tenth seed in the West twenty four and twenty two,
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: thirteen and a half games back of the number one
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: team in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: sit at twenty and twenty three. There are sixteen games back.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: You're really playing a dangerous game if you're San Antonio
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: with how much do you really want to push the
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: chips in the middle of the table and go after
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: a guy like the Aaron Fox. However, that's one side.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: On the other side, there's not a lot of guys
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: who when they put out there preferred destinations for a trade,
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: put San Antonio at number one on those preferred lists.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: So if you have a guy who wants to be
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: in San Antonio, I think by all means, you gotta
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: make it happen. But an interesting tweet that I saw
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: during the break was that if you are San Antonio
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: and you know that Daron Fox wants to come to
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: your organization, do you wait for free agency? Do you
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: just kind of sit this one out and let another
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: team trade for him in hopes that when he becomes
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: a free agent in two seasons that you can go
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: after him. Sham's reporting that, yes, darn Fox is believed
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: to be moved before the trade deadline. Again, he's a
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: free agent in that twenty twenty six class, so something
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: to keep your eye on. And again, if san Antonio
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: does decide to go make a move for Fox, that
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: true to me, it proves that the Spurs are willing
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: to push chips in the middle of table knowing what
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: they have. I said for a while. When you get
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: a guy like Victor wiman Yama, you're in a unique position,
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: not only because he's a generational talent, future face of
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: the league, a guy who can do a little bit
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: of everything. Put all that aside, if you can. You're
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: in a unique situation because you're not gonna be bad
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: enough to go get him other pieces to put around him.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: The teams that are able to rebuild have to do
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: a year over year every year and go in the
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: lottery and hope that those lottery picks hit and then
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: you can hopefully get one guy who might be a
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: generational star, and then you get a couple other good
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: role players and then you're competing for a title, and
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: because of the new CBA, those teams tend to fall
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: apart very quickly. The new CBA, with the different apron
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: levels and how much you can pay your homegrown stars,
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: Adam Silver has done everything in his power to try
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: to handicap teams from becoming dynastic. He's doing everything in
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: his power to make sure that we do not have
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: a situation like we had in twenty sixteen where Kevin
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Durant can join the Warriors, or a situation like in
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: twenty ten when Lebron James can join the Miami Heat.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: They're trying to make it so where there are fewer
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: of those dynasty type teams seems that can win year
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: over year over year. We're seeing the Denver Nuggets already
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: start losing pieces. Oklahoma City in the next couple years
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: is gonna have to start losing pieces when SGA is
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: up for that massive contract.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: You have a title window.
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: Currently, when you have a guy like Wimby Yama under
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: a rookie contract, we're moving closer to the model that
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: the NFL has built with Hey, if you want to
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: try to win a Super Bowl, the best time to
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: do it is when you have a young, good quarterback
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: a lah Russell Wilson when he was in Seattle, you
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: want to go try to push those chips in the
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: middle of table and maybe make a push for a
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: playoff appearance early now with the Spurs.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: In Wimby's second year.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: I don't necessarily hate the move for a guy like
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: the Aaron Fox, prime of his career, a younger point guard.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: The only thing is who do.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: You move off of if you try to go get him,
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: because the Kings aren't gonna just take pennies on the
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: dollar for a guy like Fox, especially if he says, hey,
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: my preferred spot is san Antonio.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Now they have all the leverage.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: Now, they have all of the chips to deal with
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: when it comes to trying to make a deal with
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: san Antonio. So we'll see how this whole thing plays
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: out again to Aaron Fox, potentially on the trade market.
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: The King's looking to move off of their young point
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: guard san Antonio allegedly the top of his list when
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: it comes to destinations. All right, when we come back,
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: we wrap up the Craig Waves Show. Next hour three
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: continues in a moment on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred,
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: The zone,
