- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Joy Jolt Podcast.
- 0:02Boom!
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: Here we are.
- 0:04I always feel like there has to be some noise or some kind of
- 0:07like something,
- 0:08right?
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: It's about the jolt.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I think some kind of like...
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: Here we are.
- 0:16My mom used to walk around the house and I loved it because my
- 0:18mom would do this thing.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: She'd do this clap.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: She'd go, oh, I'm so excited.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: You know, and I was like, my mother was the original joy jolter.
- 0:30yes you know and it was so fun to be I remember just sitting on
- 0:32the couch and mom
- 0:33would round around by the couch and there would be a whoa and
- 0:37so I think that's
- 0:38where I want to start today is don't be afraid to incorporate
- 0:44your own Joy Jolt
- 0:46expression so that you can try it on right and and whatever
- 0:50noise comes out um is
- 0:52right but it it does start from a noise it starts from
- 0:56interrupting the mundane
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: interrupting what you're doing so that you can shift the energy.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: And that's going to require you to make some noise.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm a big SNL fan.
- 1:08And I don't know if you remember the skits about Sally or
- 1:11Mally,
- 1:13you know.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I'm 50.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And she can kick.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And I can stretch.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And I can kick because I'm 50.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: I'm 50.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: I'm Sally.
- 1:28yeah right she was awesome I loved it but yeah some of that
- 1:31movement's so important
- 1:32right kind of getting through some of that and that's how pouts
- 1:35to joy is being
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: silly and having fun and
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: God, I'm really getting that.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: I'm really getting that.
- 1:41There was a period in my marriage where I realized as an adult,
- 1:46we really forgot.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: How do you play as an adult?
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: What's fun?
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: What is play?
- 1:53It's different because I have two kids and I realized as a
- 1:57mother,
- 1:58I'm not a kid anymore.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: I'm an adult because a lot of the kids games, boring.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: They didn't keep my attention.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's not fun doing some of that.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Why do you think that is?
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Is that because we, as an adult, we don't tap into our imagination?
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Because I think with some of those boring kids games,
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: another element of that was our imagination,
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: which added that,
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: what made it fun for us.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Come on, Nat, back in our day, all we had was our imagination.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Back in the olden days.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: All of the toys and all the things that children have to occupy them now.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: I'm like, where is your imagination?
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: But I do think there's an element of that.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And also kind of the surrender.
- 2:43But also the truth is what was fun to me back then is not the
- 2:48same fun to what is fun to me now.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: And that's not negative.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: That's normal.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: That's growing up.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't mean I don't
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: I don't deserve to still have fun and I don't desire to still play.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: But I think as adults,
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: we have to work a little bit harder to figure out like,
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: well,
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: what's going to make me,
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: have a jolt?
- 3:11What's going to give me some,
- 3:12you know,
- 3:13some juice and something that's positive.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, you know, I'm one of eight children.
- 3:21And so my mum was brilliant at being able to create fun games
- 3:27and fun things out of nothing.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: They didn't cost any money because, you know, we didn't have a lot.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And we used to,
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: play things like baseball and,
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 3:37dress up as Easter Bunny at Easter and give out Easter eggs and
- 3:40all these kind of
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: things.
- 3:42which you know I there was definitely a period of my life where
- 3:45I went I'm too cool
- 3:46to do this stuff now like I'm just too cool for that and then I
- 3:49realized that if I
- 3:50just suspended that and got back into my childlike nature and
- 3:55was able to really
- 3:56participate with my nieces and nephews and all of that then
- 3:59then then I started to
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: connect more with my joy so maybe what what's uh it limits us
- 4:05from the intensity or the amount of joy that we get to
- 4:09experience in our life is
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: that maybe the doorway to that is to stepping into some childlike energy,
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: even if it's just for a moment.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: And maybe the childlike energy isn't about you becoming a child.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: No.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: It really is about the invitation to look at the world with wonder.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Because that's what I think about that,
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: that idea of like kids just think everything,
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: like a real kid that's involved,
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: like,
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: whoa,
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: and they're not afraid to get excited.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: They're not afraid to ask questions.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: They're not afraid to not know.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: They're not afraid to not just to make it up.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:49And so I think that that wonder and that excitement and giving
- 4:53yourself permission
- 4:58Those are all things that I think about One of the practices
- 5:01that I do every week
- 5:04is I go dancing Tuesday mornings and it's either in the jungle
- 5:08or on the beach
- 5:09which is super amazing and I dance with this group of women and
- 5:12we just let our
- 5:14bodies move and I think there's something really powerful in
- 5:20the idea of letting
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: your body just move
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: and that we don't do that enough.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: We sit so still all day long.
- 5:31And so it's like,
- 5:32oh,
- 5:32even right now,
- 5:32just let yourself move a little bit.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: So that it's like,
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 5:40that you're giving yourself permission to unlock some of that
- 5:43energy because that's
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: like children are moving.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: And the class that you do, it's not just dance.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: This is our girlfriend, Misty Tripoli.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: What does she call it?
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Well, she calls it groove.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: This is all about getting back in your body and moving.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: and dancing,
- 6:07but moving in a way that really connects you back to yourself
- 6:13and in a way that you
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: do it without fear of judgment.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Because I think sometimes like,
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I'm very much,
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: guilty of like,
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: I have to be cool.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: I have to look cool.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: I'm the cool kid, whatever.
- 6:23But I've done these classes with you on the beach and it's all
- 6:27about not caring
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: what other people are doing
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Just focusing on yourself and what feels good in the moment.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: In the moment.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: It's not just dance.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: No, it's personal permission.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: It's permission to invite your whole self into a space.
- 6:44and permission to do that with other people who are also giving
- 6:48themselves permission.
- 6:49I actually had a really interesting experience this week I'd
- 6:52love to share.
- 6:53And one of the common exercises,
- 6:55the instructor of this class,
- 6:56her name is Dani.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: And so she does a little bit of a different type of a groove,
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: but she's developed her own type of method.
- 7:03And her statement was,
- 7:06okay,
- 7:07give yourself permission to go back to your seven-year-old
- 7:10self.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Right, which is much like what we were talking about, right?
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: That sense of go back to that childlike wonder.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: It was really fascinating because for me in that moment,
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: as I was moving and she gave that instruction,
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know why,
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: but my body shot itself forward.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: I imagined myself as an 80 year old woman.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: I was inhabiting the body of my future self.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: It was so wild.
- 7:33And I was completely sober,
- 7:34just so you know,
- 7:34it was 9am on a Tuesday morning,
- 7:36okay?
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: So this was just this experience I had,
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: and it was amazing for me to be in that much joy with my future self.
- 7:49And it did spark me to write then this article I wrote this
- 7:52week about Joy Forward.
- 7:54because I think there's so much in trying to grasp at joy
- 7:59that's from backwards
- 8:00like we can remember when we had fun we can remember when we
- 8:03had a good time we
- 8:04could remember when we had that whoa that experience but what
- 8:09if the practice is
- 8:10about giving yourself permission to revel in the joy that's
- 8:15still ahead yeah you
- 8:17know and I was an 80 year old woman who was like look at me I'm
- 8:21still moving
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: and still loving my body.
- 8:25I could feel my crepey skin,
- 8:29but I still loved what the sun felt like on my skin.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: It was a really empowering,
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: fun,
- 8:40and awe-inspiring experience to let myself think about joy not
- 8:45as a thing that I
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: have to dig up from my past,
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: but a thing that I get to live into in my future.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: It's like joy forward.
- 8:52Yeah well reimagining our future I think is a skill that we
- 8:57really want to hone
- 8:58right now because you know as we've said life is heavy right
- 9:03now like I mean I had
- 9:08a moment this week where I honestly felt like an elephant was
- 9:12sitting on my chest
- 9:13I'm like okay this is and you know and here is the challenge
- 9:17that when I'm focusing
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: on that and then I'm focusing on the challenge is
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: and then I'm like, okay, how do I get out of this?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: How do I do this?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: How do I solve this?
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: What is the solution here?
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I can't,
- 9:29there's no way I'm going to see a solution if all I'm doing is
- 9:32focusing on the
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: challenge.
- 9:34I know that I need to get to a place where my frequency and my
- 9:38resonance is higher than that.
- 9:40I'm not necessarily saying go from that to joy because that's a
- 9:45huge leap.
- 9:47but it's important that we figure out how to get out of that
- 9:51heaviness into
- 9:53something lighter so that then we can imagine something better
- 9:59and yeah we're in
- 10:00that higher frequency that's where we get to get inspiration
- 10:04and see solutions and
- 10:05and see opportunities that are showing up because otherwise
- 10:08it's like we're like
- 10:09this and we can't yeah you know well and I think I'm like
- 10:13thinking about frequency
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: as the frequency gets heavier
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: It might, you know, it's like it's sitting on your chest.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: So it feels so, it feels more real.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:25It feels more real than maybe the levity that we kind of
- 10:27associate to this idea of joy.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Because joy feels light, right?
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Joy feels effervescent.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Joy feels upward in its energy.
- 10:35And when you're sitting there with that proverbial elephant on
- 10:38your chest,
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: it's like,
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: how do you give yourself permission?
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: And I think I love that is like looking at it like it's a frequency.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: And so it's like tuning into a different energy, a different frequency.
- 10:51And I love your tool of dimensionalizing that this part of me
- 10:57is really feeling this right now.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: So acknowledge it.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Acknowledge the big pink elephant in the middle of your chest.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: And then you can say, can you get the hell off right now?
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: You can talk to it.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, my number one tool for that, obviously, breath.
- 11:16And,
- 11:16you know,
- 11:16I do a breathe in for four,
- 11:18hold for four,
- 11:19exhale for eight.
- 11:21I do a few of those,
- 11:22you know,
- 11:22just when I realize that I'm feeling that heavy in the moment.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: But for me, it's walking.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: I've got to walk.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I've got to move my body and move the energy out of it.
- 11:33and I'm very fortunate that I live somewhere where I'm on the
- 11:37marina and there's
- 11:38the sun and the water and the things and it's easy for me to
- 11:42shift but Nat what I
- 11:46love that you're saying because coming back to whether it's
- 11:48dancing whether it's
- 11:49walking whether it's breathing it is about movement joy
- 11:54inherently is just open
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: yourself it's an opening it's a moving from being closed to a
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: An expansion to openness.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: And you have to be intentional to move your body.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: It's easier to sit on the couch and do nothing.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: But the price you pay is higher.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Or what you do is go, I don't feel good.
- 12:15So what is going to,
- 12:17what's a quick fix that's going to make me feel good?
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: That could be zoning out in front of the TV.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: It could be grabbing a glass of wine.
- 12:23It could be a whole ton of things that are not necessarily
- 12:27healthy for you that are
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: really just avoiding the situation and kicking the can down the road.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: And if anything,
- 12:33making it worse because now you're in a place where your mind
- 12:38is not open,
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: your energy is not open.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: and you can't see the solution that could be right in front of you.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: And let me also just say this,
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: because the solution,
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: when you really commit to doing some kind of a movement,
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: interrupting the current pattern that you're sitting in,
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: I'm going to interrupt the pattern,
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: right?
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: I just feel this heavy elephant
- 13:02and when I have an elephant on my chest,
- 13:03the last thing I want to do is move,
- 13:05right?
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: It's heavy.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: But then when I start moving,
- 13:08what's amazing is that the process of giving yourself
- 13:11permission to even just sway
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: and just move,
- 13:15it in and of itself helps to solve the problem without you
- 13:19figuring the problem
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: out.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: I think that's one of the other pieces too,
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: is it's not that everything has to be figured out through this.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: It can get figured out through
- 13:34The other thing that we really need to focus on is what is the
- 13:37story that we're
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: telling ourselves?
- 13:39Because sometimes we'll be in that heavy place and it's like,
- 13:44oh,
- 13:45so this is happening to me.
- 13:46And you go into these victim-based thoughts and go,
- 13:52you know,
- 13:53what am I going to do?
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: This is the economy.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: This is the world.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Of course this is happening.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: This is the war.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: This is what always happens.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:01I have a friend of mine who I'm going to put a link to his to
- 14:06his TED talk,
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: but it's one of the best TED talks I've ever seen.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: And his name is Shawn Stevenson.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: He passed away a few years ago.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: He's a really good friend of mine,
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: but he he had brittle bone disease and he spent his life in a wheelchair.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: He broke over 200 times before he was 18.
- 14:23And so he experienced a tremendous amount of pain throughout
- 14:27his lifetime.
- 14:28But one of the things that he says in this TED talk that I
- 14:31think is so magical is
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: he says,
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: never believe a story that leaves you disempowered.
- 14:38Right.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 14:40And what really clicked for me in this is that it's not just
- 14:43about kind of the
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: stories that I'm watching online.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: It's about the real the stories I'm I'm telling myself.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: You know, and it's like, am I telling a disempowering story?
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Because I bet that disempowering story, it's true.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: But it's no more truer than the empowered story.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Well, exactly.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: And both things exist at the same time.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Both things exist at the same time.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: And the thing is,
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: once you blame something or someone or some situation outside of you,
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: you've lost all power to do anything about it.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: You go, well, what can I do?
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: It's the economy.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Like, everyone's in the same boat.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Like, I've just got to sit in the boat with everybody else.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: We're creating our own reality through our imagination all the time.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: All the time.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Through our imagination.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: And we can choose what that story is going to be.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: We get to choose.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: But when we're in that low frequency, we don't have a choice.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: There's no choosing there.
- 15:47We're just at the whim of the emotions and the story that we're
- 15:51telling ourselves.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: We need to get up into that high vibration.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: And when we go into the deeper conversation,
- 15:57I'm going to be sharing some specific tools that I use to be
- 16:01able to get you to a
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: place where you can imagine...
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: whatever it is that you want, despite what's happening around you.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: And my life is a testament to this.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: I was even telling the story on an interview the other day,
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: which I haven't told for a while about,
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: with Mind Movies,
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: how we came over here to the US,
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: we joined a mastermind group,
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: we,
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: we racked up like $120,000 on credit cards,
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: just to launch Mind Movies to the world.
- 16:30and we ended up doing a $700,000 week selling a $97 digital
- 16:38product in September of
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: 2008 when everyone was losing their homes and their jobs and everything.
- 16:44So despite what was happening out there,
- 16:47we had the biggest success of our lives.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 16:51I'm sure that we can all look back at our lives right now and
- 16:54look at moments where
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: we went,
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: you know what,
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: despite what was going on in the world,
- 16:59I was able to create a different result for myself because of
- 17:03the way that I was thinking.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, I feel like at this point it's every day.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: It kind of has to be.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: it really,
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: you could go down the,
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: there's a lot of joy suckers and balloon poppers.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: And, you know, there's a lot that you can validate
- 17:27You can validate the elephant sitting on your chest and you can
- 17:31make that elephant
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: heavier and heavier and heavier.
- 17:34And this is not about avoiding reality or not dealing with the
- 17:38difficult conversations.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: It's the exact opposite.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: It's about saying,
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 17:42I was I was actually I was writing a post today about how
- 17:45important my joy is to me
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: and that my joy is is something that I will.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: It's not about walking away from something.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: It's walking towards something else.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:56right and so it's even changing that relationship between like
- 18:00I have to let go of
- 18:01this and I have to let go of that no you don't you just got to
- 18:04turn your attention
- 18:05in different direction and walk towards something different
- 18:09because when you're
- 18:10saying you have to walk away from something what are you
- 18:12focusing on you're
- 18:14focusing on walking away from so are you really walking away
- 18:17from it it's like I'm
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: leaving I'm leaving you
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Why is it following me?
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: So it's like,
- 18:23but we very rarely give ourselves permission to really be in
- 18:28the empowered
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: conversation,
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: which is what am I walking towards?
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: What do I want to think?
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: What do I want to feel?
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: What do I want to create?
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: What do I want?
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: What do I want in my future?
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: What do I want when I'm 80 years old?
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Most of us think about being 80 and go, oh God, that's so old.
- 18:44But like,
- 18:44what if I'm one of those spunky 80 year old women that just
- 18:47gives people so much joy?
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: We have a friend, her name is Sparky.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: I am going to be Sparky.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Sparky is one of the greatest role models, right?
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: And so it's like these, you see it.
- 18:58And so it's that sense of letting yourself revel in,
- 19:01in what am I walking towards?
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: And it could be exciting.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: It should be exciting.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't have to be the same thing every day that you imagine.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: You know, I call these things like, you know, daydreams with intention.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: It's like you're taking a vacation into the future.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: But the more that you do that,
- 19:19the more you are retraining your mind and your brain and
- 19:24creating new neural
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: pathways so that when you are thinking about the future,
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: these are the things that pop into your mind.
- 19:30These are the things that come from the subconscious to the
- 19:33conscious mind.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Okay,
- 19:34so I'm going to tell one more story before we pop into that
- 19:36deeper conversation,
- 19:37because I know that we have a lot of tools that we're going to
- 19:39actually put into
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: that deeper conversation.
- 19:42But I want to share something because you're talking about
- 19:44going on vacation.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Jared and I have been married for 20 years.
- 19:48And at the very beginning of our marriage,
- 19:51we went away to Europe for two weeks,
- 19:53right?
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: That's the longest vacation we've ever taken.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: in our marriage.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Now we do a lot of staycations and we always,
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: but I realize we're going away for four weeks in July.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: This is going to be the longest I've ever been gone.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Four weeks.
- 20:09And as an American,
- 20:12Natalie,
- 20:13you know,
- 20:13you've been living in the States long enough.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: We just take one week.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 20:17you know we get one week off in the united states and i i'm
- 20:21really bumping up
- 20:21against like the anxiety that's coming up because of this
- 20:26paradigm that i was
- 20:27raised in around you give yourself one week vacation and and
- 20:32i'm like whoa so this
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: is a really interesting
- 20:36and I was talking to this French girl and she says,
- 20:38oh,
- 20:38no,
- 20:38no,
- 20:38we do three weeks.
- 20:39We do three weeks because in one week you're still in your mind
- 20:42thinking about work.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: It's not until you're in the second week that you're actually there.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: And I was like, wow, I've been missing vacation.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: So I'm super excited about even rewriting.
- 20:55I'm 51 years old and I'm having to give myself permission to
- 21:00step into this new
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: paradigm,
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: which is,
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: it's like,
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: My anxiety wants to follow me.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: I don't want to be.
- 21:09I'm having to really work on my brain so that I can go into
- 21:13this vacation feeling
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: prepared,
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: feeling excited,
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: and really giving myself permission to enjoy it fully.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Well, Australia, we get four weeks.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, I know.
- 21:27And we get about 50 public holidays,
- 21:29which we always turn into long weekends.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Because if the holiday actually falls on a weekend day,
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: then we always take the Monday because,
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: that's how we do it.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: But because we're so far away from everything,
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: we need the extra time because it takes us 30 hours to get to Europe from
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Australia.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: So,
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 21:46and then you've got to get over the jet lag and everything and
- 21:48then you get into
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: it.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: And then you get into it.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: We've got to make it worth it.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but you guys go.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: A lot of Americans don't have passports.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: So where are we going?
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Well, anyway, this has been a really fun conversation.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Those of you who have joined us live, thank you for being here.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Share the Joy Jolt with your community.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: It really is about just sharing more of this very important conversation.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: How do we invite more people to
- 22:16to intentionally choose to just open themselves in a world
- 22:21where things really feel
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: so tight and many of us have that elephant sitting on our chest.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: So thank you for joining us.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: We're going to jump into the deeper conversation.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Nat?
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: And if you are listening to us on a platform that is not Substack,

- 22:39And I would love for you if you're listening to the recording
- 22:42of this to be able to
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: share what you do.
- 22:46when you are in these moments because,
- 22:48you know,
- 22:48we're all going through it right now.
- 22:50So what is it that you do that helps you to get out of that
- 22:54lower frequency into
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: something a little higher that makes you feel better?
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: We'd love to hear your comments on that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: Woo!
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: There it is.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: We'll end with a noise.
- 23:03All right.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: All right, guys.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: And for our paid subscribers,
