- 0:01Happy Monday.
- 0:02Today my invitation for you is to take a look at where in your life you might be overriding what you're feeling.
- 0:09This invitation is inspired by a couple of things that happened yesterday.
- 0:13First, I got a moving message from a woman who listened to my recent podcast episode on grief.
- 0:19In that episode, my guest Karen Eichner shared a really important message around this belief or myth or lie that we often perpetuate that we need to be happy all the time.
- 0:32You know, we're encouraged to be happy, we're encouraged to get over things quickly, and all manner of things are marketed to us with the promise of happiness.
- 0:42And in the text that I received from this woman who listened to the episode, she shared with me that she was just allowing herself to feel sad without any guilt.
- 0:52She clearly had some grief coming up, and she was simply allowing herself to experience it.
- 0:58And I found it really interesting that she used the word guilt, that we can actually feel guilty for feeling whatever it is we need to feel.
- 1:07And I was reminded of the importance of this as I was watching our dog, Duke.
- 1:14He just came off a week of spending pretty intense one-on-one time with my sister's dog, who is biologically related to him, and the two of them are just so incredibly connected, it's fricking adorable.
- 1:30And after a week of being together, Duke spent pretty much all of yesterday moping, simply sleeping, and no amount of me inviting him to play or creating little games that he normally loves, you know, to try to shift his mood really resulted in much of anything.
- 1:47So eventually, I gave up, and I just let him mope.
- 1:50And after a full day of sleeping and doing basically nothing, he finally started to come around to himself, and I thought,"Yeah, there's an important lesson here." So back to you.
- 2:06If you're feeling tired, if you're feeling low, if you're feeling sadness, if you're feeling grief, my invitation to you today isn't a particularly sexy one by society's standards.
- 2:19It's to carve out some time to feel what you need to feel That could look like taking the nap when you are tired, maybe not overloading your schedule if you're already experiencing overwhelm, perhaps making some space for tears or reflection, or reaching out for support if that's what you feel you need.
- 2:44Essentially, the invitation is to become aware of where you are emotionally and meet yourself there, and not with that rah-rah energy of trying to override it or resist it or fix it or just push through it, but with an open heart and with the permission to just be where you are.
- 3:06Okay.
- 3:07God bless, and have a fabulous Monday.
