- Ted Turner: Welcome in everyone, the dog's down south. It is Sunday night. Probably a little bit different of a night for us because we're usually on during the week. ⁓ but we are live. ⁓ I have a face we have not had on the pod in a while. ⁓ my man, rich man is here with us tonight. This is part one of a two part hundredth episode of dogs down south. ⁓ obviously getting a lot of these guys together, ⁓ busy with families and jobs and things of that nature and we do this for a hobby. If it paid us, we would be doing this more often. Right. ⁓ but, this is going to be part one. ⁓ and then myself and fish will do part two of a hundred episode, but I wanted to get some of the guys in that have been a part throughout the entire milestone. Rich man, how are you tonight? How's the weather up there in North Georgia? Richman: Yeah. It's good and dry up here. It was a little chilly today. It's kind of started out at 47 this morning. Ted Turner: Billy. Wow. I. Richman: Yeah, I think the high was in the like 60 maybe. I'm not sure. didn't, I didn't go out today. ⁓ I was down. Ted Turner: Wow. I always think if we're in like the eighties, then yeah, I do always wonder if eighties, 85s, and if we're overcast, I always wonder is Georgia kind of, know, in the, in where you're at, you know, ⁓ especially in, you know, March and April when we kind of had an extended cool period here in Florida, which we will not complain about. ⁓ so I always think to myself, well, it's probably, ⁓ 15 or so degrees cooler up there in Georgia. So I wonder what's going on up there, but Hey man, happy to have you back. ⁓ I'm excited about tonight. ⁓ G day is in the books. If you haven't already done so, ⁓ I did drop a quick, just five minute video on tick tock on dogs down South and talked about just really quick observations from Saturday, but between now and, ⁓ on Tuesday night when me and fish get together, we're going to break it down from top to bottom. We're not going to have anything left in this, but everything that probably we need to talk about Georgia wise up until we see them between those same hedges, ⁓ very soon, late August, early September, rich man, really quick. First thought tonight. What was your biggest just wow factor observation of G day or the parts you saw G day on Saturday? What caught you off guard the most? Richman: I think it was all the quarterbacks and all the passing and all the freshmen. And I'll tell you what I was super excited about was Pro Throw. He was probably my favorite player that just stood out to me the whole day. Ted Turner: was, um, I, you're kind of chiming into what a lot of people are saying too. And I, I could agree with it. So you would say that probably just the, the ability for, I would say that a lot of these freshmen are to just look kind of game ready, right? Like I, I mean, they're making mistakes. Don't get me wrong, but there's some who are standing out and going, if I didn't know they were a freshmen, I wouldn't think they were a freshman. Richman: I mean, that Riddell kid, I I think that kid can go. ⁓ There was, dude, there's just, the freshmen seem like a lot of talent out there. You know, it's hard to tell right now. I mean, you look at them in G-Day and you think they can go. We really won't know until a couple of games in in the season, but ⁓ I'm telling you, Pro Throw and Riddell, those are, they look really good to me. Ted Turner: Yeah. So Jayden Riddell is actually, ⁓ which I know for Georgia fans, ⁓ that, ⁓ we tend to carry a really, I mean, we're well recruited in the tight end room. ⁓ Hartley does a great job in there, but Jayden Riddell is a redshirt sophomore. And so he's been kind of hidden and he's also wearing a new, yeah, he's wearing a new number. ⁓ but he can be hidden, right? Because of, you know, Dell and Elias last year and then Richman: ⁓ okay. I didn't even know that. Ted Turner: You know, you had obviously lost some luck. had a really good year last year. ⁓ and then you had Barbora who I think if he doesn't get hurt, he sees some quality minutes last year too. And so it's very easy for Jayden Riddell to get hidden, but Kirby did say, said, you know, one of the standout players for spring, he said, I don't think he had a bad day. And a lot of people, hate comparisons, but we'll say it. A lot of people think, man, Can we get this guy into some Brock Bowers type routes, formations, seeing the ball in some of the same ways that Brock Bowers did? What do you think about that? ⁓ that take on Jayden Riddell. Richman: Well, if I didn't realize he was a red shirt sophomore and kind of makes sense. I mean, it looks like maybe he's had some gains in the weight room because he was just his arms. You know, they don't like he'd come out of high school with those arms for sure. So yeah, I would love to see him get some, uh, uh, some looks like that for sure. We'd get the ball on it. I mean, he just looks like get the ball in his hands. looks like good things will happen with that kid. Ted Turner: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. agreed very much. So, ⁓ I know, you know, Georgia fans are, ⁓ you know, they broke it down in their own way from top to bottom and let's just start. ⁓ we'll try to kind of break this out into sections, maybe kind of with, ⁓ position groups, but also maybe just like times in the game, right? First, second, third, fourth quarter. But obviously, ⁓ let's dive right in with the big observations was, ⁓ you know, what you know, did we come out of the game, ⁓ kind of injury free per se, right? ⁓ obviously Nate Frazier was the one that everybody kind of, you know, took a deep breath in first play. ⁓ he got his foot kind of stepped on and, ⁓ a lot of people are wondering what's going on. Didn't come back in there, but from what I'm hearing, ⁓ you know, it was a minor sprain. went in the medical tent. ⁓ and they were like, He wanted to go back in. did some running on the sideline. He was seen running on the sideline and ready to go back in, but he was shut down. He was like, you know, there's just really no reason to push this. There's absolutely zero good for us today to see a phrase. mean, Nate Frazier goes out rushes for 150 yards on G day. It don't matter to us. I've done to show up in late August, early September. ⁓ do you agree? I mean, we didn't get to see Frazier a lot, but, ⁓ but injury wise. ⁓ What did you think? Did you see it? What did you think about the injury? Richman: I don't think he was hurt that bad. ⁓ I saw him on the sideline. He looked like he was trying to walk it off. He definitely didn't look like it was, actually I read later, it's no surgery. So if that's the case, that's fantastic. But I mean, the other running backs that came in, we're gonna have a full stable if they stay healthy. ⁓ I mean, Bowen did really well moving the ball, but Ted Turner: Yeah. Richman: There was a couple of... What is the kid's name? Dante Dowdle? He looks like he's going to be ⁓ the short yardage go-to guy. I he's tough. And then ⁓ was it Phillips? Phillips ran all over the place. Yeah, he's a little scat-back kind of guy. Get him in the open with the ball and he's going to show off. Ted Turner: Yes. The transfer from Kentucky. Yeah, Dwight Phillips. Yeah. Agreed. Yeah, I agree. Richman: So I'm not really worried about the running backs. And Bo Walker probably looks like he may be on the lowest on the depth chart maybe. I don't know. What do you think? Ted Turner: I think, ⁓ I think you're right. I mean, once again, I know we keep tagging this, but you don't get a lot of these from Kirby throughout the spring, nor do you do the season. I think he does a lot of his, ⁓ his, you know, pats on the back is who raw behind closed doors. ⁓ but Dwight Phillips apparently had an incredible spring as well. I mean, just, ⁓ if you look at him, he's gotten, I mean, I remember seeing him first. four or five practices at Georgia and I went I don't know if he needs to be a practice or at the at the cafeteria, you know eating he's definitely put on a little muscle. He's definitely got a little feistier as runs are a little bit more dynamic. I would call it and he did definitely have some breakaway speed but Kirby said he has some he had some great reps probably once again. He kind of tagged him. He said one of the more breakout players don't think he had a bad day. ⁓ his entire time during spring now Dowdell, lot of people said Dowdell was kind of pushed in for, to fill in for McCray. ⁓ after I see Dowdell, ⁓ I mean, I don't think size wise, like is the reason why I think it's just like what we're hearing of Dowdell was he's a power back things of that nature. I don't think he, he's size wise stands, you know, to McCray. But what I saw from Dowdell was is You have a crazy little more like downhill and hope you can take me down. think Dowdell showed some really good moves behind some really good power. So I agree with you. I think he can be used in short yardage, but also think a change of pace type back that I can like get behind. mean, I love Josh McCrae, but there were some times where I'm like, okay, we got him in on first down, man. Like this is not, you know, it's kind of the whole, you know, thing with cash. It's like, I don't know, man, if we're trying to give the ball to cash, you know, third and four, man, I get it. He's in the set, but I kind of see it like that. But I do think that Dowell is more explosive looking. I will more God gifted speed to McCrae. What do think? Richman: Yeah. I think so. ⁓ He looked good to me. I think our running back room looks good. I'm really excited about the lineman. ⁓ looks like we got depth all across the line. I really enjoyed watching Joel Jackson play. He definitely needs to work on his footwork a little bit, but I mean, he just absorbed and covered up people. He's so big. As long as he can develop that footwork where he can handle the outside rush and not let that get away from him, man, he's going to be a stud. Ted Turner: I totally agree. I love, Joe Jackson. Another one of Kirby's movers, right? ⁓ so, ⁓ that's really good to see. I I'm blown away. ⁓ 19 scholarship lineman 19. ⁓ I think Kirby's spot on. think he's just, I don't think he's just bullcrapping with this, man. The ability to get three or four quarterbacks live. full go reps is something that there's not a lot of schools being able to do. ⁓ and I think, know, we're going to break down the line. but I think overall, I agree with you. I think the line had a deceptive type day. Like, I don't think you can look at our line and go, well, we, we saw everything we needed. If you looked at it, I mean, and we can, go ahead and dive into this. Kirby did exactly what he wanted to do. I mean that A lot of plays that were ran. Nothing was based around the run a lot. I mean, you didn't see very, very, very vanilla run plays. ⁓ defense is attacking at a, at a really high level. So it's going to obviously, right. Richman: The defensive line looked like they just were lining up and playing. There was no stunning, you wouldn't see a lot of complicated stuff that you'll see during the season. So yeah, it was more just kind of line up and play head up football looked like. So from that perspective, it looks really good. ⁓ But we'll find out more I guess in the early season. ⁓ But I mean, we got a lot of experience on our line. Ted Turner: Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of, ⁓ is this, ⁓ is I key Hilton. Yeah. It's like he Hilton. Yeah. ⁓ dude, I don't know where, right? Richman: That new guy, Zikey? Did you, ⁓ The guard. Yeah. There a lot of people think a lot of people think he's going to start so. ⁓ Ted Turner: Yeah. I don't know where man, like he was one I mentioned. I'm glad you mentioned psyche health and three star Buford, but you know, somebody said the other day, they're like, there really ain't no two, three, four or five star athletes at Buford. They all, mean, Buford does an incredible job of, uh, of preparing kids for college. And, um, I mean, you've seen it. Richman: Well dude, if you play one game in that stadium up there, that's like playing in college. Ted Turner: Yeah. Yeah. So I don't, mean, you look at him, you look at Tyree green, who has been turning heads. You look at, know, you look at, yeah, you'll get KJ obviously. And you look at what we've gotten from Beaufort and you just feel like these guys, mean, why is, why did KJ bold and come in and play immediately? I mean, think we can say the same thing about psyche and Tyreek is, you know, these guys playing in elite programs and ⁓ Richman: Tyreek, you look really good. Ted Turner: We do a really good job, man, with in-state talent and with NIL, like you really can't gauge in-state talent anymore because you're not just gauging it off, keeping people at home. You can, you can talk about keeping people at home while you want to, but there's a price to keep people at home. And you know, it's like, is it, is that really fitting to your budget? you can't go, we aren't all Texas. We can't go out there and spend $45 million and, ⁓ hope and pray that we win a national championship before we go too far. Let's talk quarterbacks real quick, right? ⁓ I want to know what you thought. ⁓ I'll give you my two cents, but I want to know what you thought in the small amount of time that you experienced gunner. Like, what did you think about gunner? Richman: Man, I mean, he made that. I remember one great throw down the line and that was about it. didn't do it. He sucked it and ran a couple of it just looked like Gunnar. I couldn't tell. didn't see him enough to really tell if they had changed his, you know, the talk was that they'd been working on his throw in motion and trying to shorten it and maintain the power. I couldn't tell. I didn't, didn't see enough to really tell if that's the case. Of course, not, I'm not a, I don't have an eye for quarterbacks either. Ted Turner: Right. Yeah. He, ⁓ I saw a couple, ⁓ it, was a, this was a weird, a weird day. We, we, we agree with this play calling was very vanilla generic. If we did anything with, you saw new, I'm sorry, if we did anything that was not generic and not vanilla, was because it was new. ⁓ I, mentioned early before we hopped on, I saw a lot of, that's all out of mesh concepts that we are, ⁓ I mean, we've run those in the past, but if you look at how we're trying to do things, I think you're going to see, you know, everybody's looking for like, who's going to, who's going to be the guy that everybody's looking for. Who is the next branch? Right. And I, and I'm not going off track with gunner right now. I just want to elaborate on why I think gunner, you didn't see this as much. I think it was very evident what we want to do to get those yards. from branch this year. And that is our entire Titan room. I think it's going to be an accumulative effort of keeping them off balance. have, um, a very athletic, um, smart, great blocking loss and lucky who will get the majority of the minutes. We all know that, but we also know Georgia is going to run some, some, lot of two Titan sets. And I, I would say they may run some three Titan sets, right? Obviously Elias was in there. You can't keep six, four, six, five off of the field. ⁓ and then you got Ethan Barber. We, mean, bro throw was being used a little bit more hybrid. ⁓ I think, yeah, I agree. I think you could clearly see they were showing the world that pro throw is not going to be lining up a tight end there. They're not going to, they didn't spend time in 14 days, him blocking. He was running around. Richman: He's gonna end up in the slot. Prostate. And he had... This probably in a good comparison, but with Zechariah Branch, when he got the ball, he was electric. Pro throws seem like he has the ability, like when he gets the ball, to make some things happen. If you can get him the ball in the open field, he can make some yards. That's great, man, because if you can get yards after the catch, that's always a premium, especially in the SEC. Ted Turner: It's, it was weird to see, it was weird to see him. agree with you. Like it was weird to see him doing things that NFL receivers and tight ends do. Like he, his, he's got great link on his arms. So he uses that stiff arm to get you away from his legs. He did it multiple times. Right. Yeah. He's around six, three, I think he's pushing him and Elias are pretty close man, from what I understand. Richman: He's what 6'3"? Is he 220? Ted Turner: ⁓ you know, I have, I don't have like weight and height up, but. Richman: Think I hurt. I think that I heard him say that he was 220. Man, that's great size for receiver. He was my favorite player to watch in the whole thing. ⁓ I also enjoyed watching Beaver at the end of the game when they let him go and he was throwing the ball a little. He was letting someone get away from him, but made some great plays too. The kid looks like he might be able to play. Ted Turner: Yeah. Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Y'all like Beaver. ⁓ I think so, you know, we look at gunner, obviously gonna have anything to prove, right? ⁓ mean gunners. Yeah. Richman: Gunners needs to stay healthy and get strong. Ted Turner: Yeah. I do want to mention, you know, I, I know a lot of people have been asking like, is like, what is, what do we think quarterback scenario will look like when it comes down to fall? ⁓ although, you know, we are, we're such raw, eyes of talent, right? mean, Kirby, Kirby and the coaching staff see these guys. in and out every single day in and every practice, you know, and then we have a lot of people that will get out there and break this game down from top to bottom. And I know you, you as well, rich man said it like I put, I put Beaver at two right now, right. And Kirby would look at me and probably just go that's yeah. He laughs, you know? And so I know it. And so I'm saying more from the fact of just going generally, I think his pocket presence, I think his arm strength, right? Richman: He'd laugh. Ted Turner: throws a really good ball, man. And I'm not saying any others didn't. Yeah. Kentucky go. We can tell why, ⁓ he was wanted in that Oregon style offense. Dan landing recruited him, ⁓ signed him. He did not, ⁓ he was allowed out of his LL. I because Dylan Raiola, which should be a reminder of a lot of Georgia fans ended up leaving Nebraska and heading to Oregon. Richman: Your kid can tuck it in the coat, can't Ted Turner: to not only get to Oregon and realize that, Richman: Now he's going to compete for what? Second, second string. Ted Turner: Exactly. So Dante, you know, Dante more decides he's coming back and then yeah, he's got to compete. Um, they are here dealing with all this having a hard time competing for the second, uh, job up there. So that's why I think Beaver kind of made the, the kind of headed out of there. Um, but also think that's why Oregon wanted him, right? He throws a really good ball. He's got a really, it looks like he's got good touch. Um, I think now This is why I'm glad you brought Beaver up first, because when we look at the Ryan's right, this is what let's talk about the Ryan's the Ryan Puglisi and the Ryan Montgomery. Now, right. Montgomery made strides in spring. I'm hearing right. A lot of closed door sessions looked better. Look good. ⁓ I think what you're seeing with these two guys is, is I think Montgomery was just putting way too much pressure on himself on Saturday, right? He threw some balls, entered through some balls. He was trying to make some things happen. You could tell he was a kid that was, that was listening maybe to the hype of maybe I have a, maybe I have a chance for this backup job, right? If gunner, you know, we're, always at Georgia going, we're one snap away from seeing what kind of backup we have, you know, I mean, I we've been there before done that. ⁓ and had some great quarterbacks come out of that and also has people transfer out, ⁓ out of that. Exactly. So, then put Gleeson. Richman: And some championships come out of that. Ted Turner: Now this is the kid that we've been so high on NFL type arm. What do you think the biggest thing that you saw on Saturday between the two Ryan's that stood out to you about them? Richman: and Man, I didn't really, ⁓ I don't see, I didn't see it. To me, it's a toss up. I mean. ⁓ Ted Turner: You feel like their arms are pretty comparably the same or like, how'd you feel about their arm strength? Like who do you think brought more dynamic play to the game? Richman: I think Puglisi maybe threw a little bit better than Ryan Montgomery did today. I don't know, man. I don't have a feel for those two. I'm comfortable with Ryan Puglisi being a backup right now. I was last year too. So I I thought he looked pretty good last year when he came in and played. No, no, we'll see. Ted Turner: Yeah. Right. I'm going to go out on a limb here, man. I'm just going to tell you, Kirby would probably, Kirby would probably say the same thing I said earlier is, mean, like you're crazy. This is why you guys watch it and take one take, but here's my thing. I think Ryan Puglisi is exactly what you just said. I think you might, he might fall struggle to the fact that he could be a bona fide backup for a long time at Georgia. Right. Um, I think if I had to look right now and go, Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: Who is going to be the guy that God forbid if Gunner Stockton goes down, who is going to be the guy to come in and spark give, give good spark, give good, ⁓ leadership give. Yes. I think, I think it's between these two guys. I think it's, think, and, and just telling you how I, what I thought, what I saw, I, he didn't want to these two guys that make all the great throws. They didn't make all the great decisions. Richman: Who's gonna be the Bennett? Where's the Bennett? Ted Turner: But they made things happen when they needed to make things happen. And that was has a kind of mill under and, ⁓ Bryson B, ⁓ that's me. mean, and here's the thing too. I am factoring into that. They were not playing for the entire time against number one, even sometimes number two defense, right? But it wasn't about what they were doing as far as just statistically. Like I just felt like Millinder and Beaver, like they just kind of brought a little bit more of a like, you I used to talk about when Stetson getting in the game, it had a little bit more of a swag to the offense. Would you agree? Richman: Little spark. Yeah. I would like to see Melinder play a little bit more. mean, I, ⁓ I mean, he looked, he looked really good running the ball, but the you or I could have run them through and made that touchdown because it was so I don't, but, ⁓ I mean, he, looks, he looks very athletic. He threw the ball. He's got an arm, but he was floating a lot of balls. I mean, that'll take probably, I mean, Ted Turner: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm concerned about. Richman: That could just could have been G day, know, floating those balls, the adrenaline rush first time out there. But I am. Ted Turner: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I agree. Um, let's, real quick before we, cause we're going to go, we, we've hit tight ends a little bit. We've hit a little quarterback. Uh, I want to mention Chauncey Bowen's obviously, if you look at Chauncey, he was wearing five, uh, little bit of a double edged sword kind of honoring Gears and Hearst, but also, um, Chauncey said he's, he's always been a single digit running back. Um, Chauncey looked like he had about 20 pounds of muscle put on. Did you agree? mean, Chauncey looked like a Richman: Man, he looked good. Yeah. Ted Turner: He kind of looked like, ⁓ I saw a picture of Quincy Carter and Garrison Hearst and you know, Garrison Hearst now is a little bit more stock year now. And I would say his height hasn't met his, ⁓ stockiness. ⁓ so I looked at Garrison in the picture. I'm like, I can see these guys kind of looking the same now. Right. ⁓ what'd think about Sean's? I mean, he looked like he looked like a little bowling ball, man. I was a little, he looked like a big bowling ball. Richman: He looked good, man. was, was toting the tater for sure. Ted Turner: I think. Richman: I, our back room is stout. Um, I mean, I guess one of the, one of the commentators said something about, you know, one, one injury and all of a sudden we don't look too good, but I don't know, man. Um, Ted Turner: Yeah, yeah, I agree. Richman: I think we ⁓ got a barn full of them and we're good to go at running back. Ted Turner: Yeah. It's hard though, man. It's hard because we know sometime we we've seen this before, like we get into fall and we're like, where were these guys that were in the spring game? Right. And you go like, why are they getting touches? I mean, you got to remember like things change a lot. Once we get into fall spring is spring is play loose. Richman: Well, yeah, playing games doesn't mean anything, man, because they're playing generic football. the, yeah, I mean, what we saw today was just ⁓ like getting out in the yard and playing two-hand touch 30 years ago with your buddies, basically. Ted Turner: Right. Yeah. Yeah. It's a, it's the reason why, I mean, you've seen so many Richman: I mean, we saw all these quarterbacks that we've never seen before. And we saw all this passing. We're not gonna see that in the fall. It's gonna be back to run, lead with the run. And we're gonna find out how the offensive line can deal with the stunts. ⁓ it'll be interesting to see if they go, ⁓ well, it'll be interesting to see the different blocking schemes that they start. Ted Turner: Yeah, no. Yeah. Yeah. Richman: applying in the fall because it's going to be multiple. Could be three different schemes at least. Ted Turner: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I think all in all between running backs, quarterbacks, like we got a pretty good taste. I call it a buffet of what they bring to the table. I mean, even down to, to, to Jalimar, ⁓ the Calcutt County kid who, who looked really good. as well as we went through the tight end room, you know, I mean, it was, it's definitely, we're deep in a lot of areas. And when you look at the offensive line, I think, ⁓ You know, notables we didn't really hit on. ⁓ I don't want to, I don't want to lose focus. I would agree with you that there was nothing really to write home about for the offensive line. The one thing I will say is I agree with you about John Jackson. think, think, you know, this is a too deep line. And if you know Georgia, you know, we're going to, they're going to be starters named, but everybody on in that top 10 knows they're going to be in, they're going to be a volatile piece. I would even venture to say 1213 deep the way Georgia likes to do that. But just kind of reiterate, I think Michael, uh, I think he's made some strides, uh, naming some guys who are going to be like, right, like who's going to be the guys that are going to step into that. I mean, uh, Michael and I has made some big strides, uh, especially the guard position. Um, obviously we talked about Zikey Helton being the kind of a standout. I think you're going to see a lot. from a keynote Boko, the freshmen. looked good, man. He was a good size kid on that line played a lot with the second team tackles. ⁓ I thought Daniel Calhoun did a really great job. Malachi seemed to have, ⁓ I mean, you didn't get to see Drew Bobo at all, obviously. ⁓ but I think Mount Richman: You know, I was looking at a depth chart and they got Malachi third, they've got Smith, Cortez Smith at two. You agree? Ted Turner: Yes. Yes. I, I think if the, one thing I saw was Cortez looked a little more, ⁓ looked like he was a little bit physically more, I would say, think Malachi didn't really change a lot body stature. I think it could have been a weight room thing, man. I think Malachi looked, you know, that whole saying of, they look like they did last year and how do they, because The strength and conditioning program at Georgia is, is elite. So it's like, when you look at that, I think the biggest move that was made for Cortez Smith was the weight room. And, ⁓ I mean, redshirt freshmen, right? So, and, Kirby said it, he said it in the press, or he said, he was trying to skirt it a little bit and beat around the bush, but he's like, I don't, think he was finally releasing it. He's like, I don't know if you will see people at positions that they were at last year. Richman: Yeah. Ted Turner: based off of the fact that they were just next in line to be in that position. Richman: Yeah, I remember him saying that. But that's Kirby, man. That's Kirby. I mean, that's his whole stick. And it was like that in Alabama. It's like every day you go to work. You don't have a job. You're fighting for a job every day. I don't care whether you're one, two, or three. You're fighting to hold that spot. Ted Turner: He beat around the bush a little bit with it. Totally agree. Yeah. 100 % agree. ⁓ what Richman: And ⁓ Maybe not a quarterback, he seems to coddle these quarterbacks. Did you see that interview with him and Saban? And they were joking about that. I can't remember how the joke went, but Kirby said to Saban, goes, yeah, you're willing to switch quarterbacks in the middle of the game. Ted Turner: Right. Yeah. You can, you can tell there's some unsettledness with how, um, it's weird though, man, they, they're so like-minded yet you can, you can pull some curb, you'll pull some out of left field and show how they're so completely different, um, in some natures. But I did remember seeing, uh, that interview and he called him out on a couple more things too. It was pretty funny. Um, and he said to, he, he, didn't scare away from the fact that that decision, uh, inevitably lost in the national championship that year. ⁓ But real quick before we move to defense. So what players I had it down that one of the biggest things I want to see coming out of spring was who are going to be the wide receivers and granted we can plug tight ends into this because I think we all agree that tight ends are going to be something that will give us that ⁓ into what we're losing productivity wise from the passing game now. What wide receivers though, do we feel like were the biggest movers? Like who are the guys that we think next year are going to have to. Richman: Well, Talon didn't catch two balls and I was, I don't know, man. I'm, I'm thinking if these receivers don't catch balls, if they start dropping balls, you're going to see our offense is built around the tight ends again and the slot, you know? Ted Turner: Yeah. Well, and there, was going to say this for you, said something to their defense. You didn't see many posts. You didn't see many, didn't, you didn't see many slants, ⁓ probably for concerns of like coming across the middle things that nature, you didn't see a lot of them. ⁓ as a matter of fact, I saw one early on, it was a really good throw from Ryan Montgomery. Maybe it was Puglisi. ⁓ there's a straight dark. Richman: and I dropped it. Ted Turner: Perthro nose was pro throw. He caught it. But, but I could tell when he caught it, ⁓ you could kind of see where the defense was going to be that day. And you didn't see many more of those. In other words, defense was not holding back. And it's like, you know, it's like trying to tame a wild dog. And it's like, you can hold them back, but their instinct are is hit them, you know, but like to their defense, I didn't see any kind of exotic routes, nothing they could kind of write home about to kind of create competition. Right. Richman: Well... Ted Turner: But I agree with you. Talon Taylor didn't have, I mean, he had that one really in a 40 something yard or from, from gunner that was really, really good. But I think what you saw is, is a lot of, tried to be explosive, right? Um, but I think, I think Talon, think a lot of his story was told in the 14, 15 days before that. Um, he, he, I think he's going to be, I think he's going to be a guy that's going to do, I think I'm more concerned about, and I'm just going to say it like it is. I think I'm more concerned about Isaiah Canyon. The guy we went out and got from Georgia tech and we kind of labeled him as this could be a guy that could take the Noah Thomas, ⁓ you know, position the bigger, ⁓ X, you know, Z receiver, ⁓ why I I didn't really like how it looked. I'm just going to call it as I looked a little Georgia techish from the route running perspective, right? I didn't see him using his body a lot. I didn't see him. I just kind of saw some. Richman: Yeah No, actually the commentators made the comment that he could use his body and do this stuff, but we didn't see it. Did you remember that? Ted Turner: Yeah, I do. It was, I don't want to be, I don't want to be skeptical because that'd be going back on what I've said is excited about too is man. mean, we, got a lot, we talked about Canyon a lot could it be because I mean, he might be not a hundred percent healthy. ⁓ Richman: What if they put, what about pro throw? He could probably go play some X, do you think? Ted Turner: Yeah, I think, I think he's definitely going to be that hybrid guy. Richman: I mean, he may end up being the next, mean, because I don't know, man, I'm high on that dude. I hope the fall couldn't come around and we don't see him again. Ted Turner: Uh, I the game's changed too much as well. I think it's a mixture of both. think you look at, know, okay. It used to be Kirby was like, you're a freshman. You got to come in. You got to learn the game. Now. I think what's changed that a little bit is, is these guys have come in and they've had 10 to 12 practices and bowl game practices, um, that are in addition to early, you know, you know, they sign early and they get on campus early. And, and so And there's no portal out for spring. So I think that creates a little bit less intensity with the staff to where they're more, they're more concerned with coaching them and getting more out of them. Maybe they're being prepared, but I agree. I, but I think pro throw was going to be lined up a little more hybrid. I think he's going to play receiver. You want to be me to be honest? I never saw him really lining up any, anything that he had to do some full scale blocking, you know, as well as I know, if you play tight end at Georgia, you got to do what Richman: You got to be a bulldozer. Hey, what do you think about Ganderge? Ted Turner: You got a block. ⁓ I think Dandridge was next to my list. I think, ⁓ I mentioned Dandridge a couple of days ago. ⁓ he is a freshman that is, ⁓ I mean, biggest thing you want to see is, is who's targeting Dandridge. Everybody's targeting Dandridge. So when you look and you go, well, is Dandridge going to be a guy that can make a difference this year as a freshman? I'm not saying my opinion. You're not saying your opinion. I'm saying the quarterbacks. I mean, how many times was Richman: I think he can go. Ted Turner: I mean, I could pull the stats. I don't have them right now, but cause we're just talking, you know, we're just talking G day, but I think he was targeted double digits easy on Saturday. So what are the quarterbacks see in Craig Dandridge? So that's what makes me think it's like, okay, this is not just what the coaches think of Dandridge, right? Gunner Stockton, Puglisi, all them, they targeted this kid a lot. ⁓ and I thought that spoke, that spoke a lot for what we've been hearing about him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, that's, that's warrants. Yeah. No, you're it's warranted. It's very warranted. think you asked the million dollar question. I mean, I think every Georgia van is hanging out in the same spot. Not only to mention that that media is, I when the media looks at Georgia, they're, they're asking two questions. You know, can they, can they find the productivity at wide receiver that they had last year? and can they on defense, can they, can they get to the quarterback, right? They not make Right. Well, I think, I think too, when you look at it, mean, and we're going to brew, we're going to breeze the defense here in a minute. I think it's easier to break down the defense from G day, but I think the question here you're posing is, is, agree. I you look and you go, what, I don't know if we're going to get that answer from G day. Um, I think I'll save the drama on Bobo for the fact of, you know, everything was built off of Kirby's going to show you a few things. He's going to continue to script out what needs to be worked on. If you ask Kirby, that was not G day. That was a 15th practice, right? It was just another scrimmage. It was lined up and we just did it in front of people. ⁓ we televised it. So you can tell that we go into practice during spring and we are trying to be explosive. ⁓ we are trying to create havoc in our, in our, in our linebacking core in our front seven. ⁓ I just think at the end of the day, when you look at the productivity from the wide receivers, I think it's going to be fine because I also think that you're looking at last year and I'm not saying that Oscar delp and loss and lucky. Like that was a drop off from previous tight ends. because I will look at, I'll go, you're looking at an Ethan Barbour and Elias Williams, Jade Riddell. They're young, right? They're very young last year. This is a different story. Elias and Ethan Barbour, and this is an Ethan was star. He just started those games last year. Right. So you look at all these guys, they're a little bit, they're a little bit more vetted. Right. So I don't think, I think you saw, mean, Jayden Riddell made a couple of catches. was like, damn, like, wow, like, wow, man, like that was not a tight end catch. That was, I caught it and I'm running full speed, man. So my thing is Yeah. They're not using these tight ends, ⁓ like tight ends. They're using them like another addition to stretch the field. ⁓ in many different ways. mean, so I think what you're, what you're saying is, is, know, yes, we're going to see some complexity in the offense, but what I think you'll see more than ever is, is it's reminding you and I'm gonna give this to the fans really quick. Cause I'm gonna let you chew on it for the entire summer. Right. Does it remind you a little bit? of why Todd Monkin was so successful at Georgia. It was because his offense wasn't based off of X and O's. It was based off of what do I got to do to get these players the ball and you got players, you had Brock Bowers, you had lab, McConkey, you know, you had guys that you look at and go, I'm not, this place is not designed for him. It's designed for him. Right. So I think that could get, that could get really saucy for Bobo, ⁓ and to go, how am I looking to get the ball to Jayden Riddell? How, where am I looking to get the ball to Caden pro throw at? What am I doing with Elias Williams? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, I agree. Uh, and I think, I think Georgia fans have embraced that. They know that I don't know that Mike Bobo is coming in with as much of a, uh, shoulder, you know, load to bear on those shoulders as he did last year with the inability to run the football last year and Carson Beck and things of that nature. So I don't know if he's coming in with that hot seat mentality of like, got to produce this year. But I do agree with you. He has to, you got to realize G day had no lot of fame, right? When I mean fame, I mean, there's a lot of faces out there and names and numbers that carry a lot of stars behind them. And that a lot of those guys that are running with the black Jersey on second string and third string could be first string at a lot of universities. Right? So he's got playmakers. He just has to be very creative in how he's going to get them to them. And I think it's, could create a field day. for play calling, whether it happens. Yeah. And we always say this coming out of spring. We always say it that we see depth. see playmakers. We see, mean, some names I didn't even call out, ⁓ that I think are still people that are right in there that could see roles in this offense. ⁓ you're, know, we didn't see much of, ⁓ Sokovia white Helton. I'm not sure why, ⁓ we didn't see, mean, we saw a little more of land and roll down. He's wearing eight this year in 84. You saw him returning kicks, punts. Uh, he's a fast little feisty guy, man. Jeremy Bell. He's wearing, uh, 11 instead of 81 this year. Um, Jeremy Bell is an exciting player to watch. So they're finding, they're trying to figure out a lot of different ways that they can get explosive. And so you, you saw a lot of different faces. You saw CJ Wiley. He's wearing four instead of six this year, Thomas Black's year. He's wearing two instead of 88 this year. Um, but I, But you saw all these guys and there was definitely a plethora of, ⁓ pass catchers on display. And we didn't even break the surface of like, really like, in my opinion, like outperformed. I don't know about you, but I, but, but I would say for me, the people who just really stuck out to me were Jayden Riddell were pro throw. And I did think that, ⁓ that Craig Danridge at wide receiver, just, just playmakers, right? I think, I think Dandridge and I think Phillips has the opportunity to really break one. I mean, think he's going to be a guy that you will see running by himself a few times this year. And that's one thing you just don't really see in college football anymore. Right. You miss that the Gert, the Todd Gurley days where there's three broken tackles. looks like it's a bust. The next thing you know, he's running for 60 yards, but I liked Dandridge and it's not nothing against Taylor and Taylor. mean, all these guys, I think are going to have key roles. Canyon. But I do think Dandridge, think, I think Jayden Riddell and I think pro throw just had really solid game and they were targeted a lot, which means these quarterbacks have some go-to dependency in them already. They've done something in practice that's telling us a story that we can't see. Right. Really quick before we get, I think it would be a good spot. I think, ⁓ we've done a lot of offense stuff and so ⁓ that'll leave some room for me and fish on Tuesday to break down defense from the, ⁓ G day. I want to ask you something, ⁓ three things from offense really quick. ⁓ what, what do you think? mean, with what you saw, I mean, I know we're trying, but with what you saw, I Georgia fans want three main questions answered. And I want to know like, number one, you think we can get there? Number two, do you think we saw enough on Saturday? to know we can get there. But my first question, I think dog fans will want to know from G day and what we think is, can we stretch the field and can we make check downs from big play to safe play? You said it earlier, right? Can we can gunner make check downs from big, medium, small, safe instead of safe, small, big. So I feel like, don't you feel like as far as like just check downs. We're looking. Well, hold on, hold on, hold on. I don't want to interrupt you because I want to get to that, but I want to know what you think about. Like, do you think we saw enough at the G day game where you think we have some hints of gunner being able to be explosive this year? Because you know what Georgia fans want to see. They want to see us. Yes. Yes. Now you're talking. Now you're talking. Yeah. Yeah. No, I agree. which I think that's very important because now I don't know about, I mean, I was just going to say, know we had, we felt like we had those guys last year, but is it, it Georgia fans aren't seeing that because we don't have the deep threat or because we have it. We haven't put ourselves in a situation now where we go, you are our deep threat. Here's our deep threats and you got to win. You got to go out there, the corners and win. And if so, who are they? Yeah. Right. Right, right. Yeah. Yeah. And I think the chime in on that, not to steer too far, but I think what you see in those situations with old miss things that nature is, is, you know, they have a passing game that is definitely don't get me wrong. It's elite and we could, we're to have a lot to talk about over the summer because you lose things to talk about. So you got to make up things to talk about, but you know, when it comes down to icing a game, putting a game away, ⁓ I think That is why Georgia is so effective being so balanced is because you can also look at the Ole Miss is maybe the LSU as we come forward. ⁓ the Florida's some of these people and you go, okay, why don't they have a running game to put games away? Right? I mean, you saw it happen against Ole Miss. think if Ole Miss had a running game to put us away in Athens, it would have been done. It couldn't be done because that's not what their concepts are based off of. But I thoroughly agree with you about. that, that balance of, don't know if we have that answer. I don't know if we have the answer of, just can't get, we can't get the play call and to get us where we want to go. Or we don't have the playmaker to get to, to get the play call to get us where we want to go. Yeah. It's huge. Yeah. Well, in a second. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, you're not wrong. You're not wrong, man. And I think, but I think, I think Kirby told the story on Saturday. I mean, he wrote a script and I to talk about a place script. I mean, he wrote a script of exactly what he wanted to show. And I know we have focused, which I'm glad we focused on primarily offense, which is good to break it down. Uh, but I agree with you. Like it looks like to me that We left ourselves with it's kind of reminds me of you ever go to a buffet with so much food that you're like, man, if I go in and eat a lot of what I really like, then I'm never going to eat everything and taste everything. Right. So you go in there and you go, my main thing I'm going to do today is I'm going to sample a lot of what I see. think I'd like the next time I come back. Then I'm going to know what I really want a lot of right. Why am I saying all that? Because I think Kirby was kind of doing that. I think he was sampling. Hey man, I want a lot of these wide receivers to see these, to see these throws. I want to see how they react. I want to see what they do in those situations. I want to see, you know, does Isaiah Canyon, does he use his body? Does he, does he give up on the ball? I mean, one thing I will say before I jump out this thoughts done, you know, I love CJ Wiley. I love what he did at Milton. I was very excited about what he could bring to Georgia football and then why receiver. think one of his biggest problems right now with him breaking into being a receiver that can do what he, he did, ⁓ at Milton at Georgia is he just doesn't look like if the ball's not in his catch radius, he's, gives up on the ball, right? If it's below his knees, he's like, man, it's not, you know, you should have thrown it here. It just feels that way. Right. So I think Kirby's looking for those things. He's sample sizing everything, you know? And, ⁓ I think he saw it all. think he saw the entire buffet. He saw every wide receiver we could see. He saw every tight end. could see he saw every quarterback he could see and I agree. totally agree. He definitely, definitely put the team on display for fans. Yeah. I agree. We could have gotten, we could have gotten really generic and we could have ran the foot. I mean, also, I mean, it's always great to do that because injuries come into play and a lot of, a lot of those routes were north and south, which help you with, know, we all know what north and south is, is we don't have to cut. We don't have to, we don't have to stick our foot in the ground and do much. So that keeps us from injury. ⁓ we don't have a lot of, know, over the middle type hits happening. We don't have a lot of offensive linemen having to do a lot of exotic blocking schemes for plays that are, you know, crossing the field. You know, you get, you get gunner all the quarterbacks. didn't see a lot of, think the, the, the most part of the quarterbacks that were jumping out or more jumping out because they know that it was basically tagging your hit, right? There was no, there was no tackling. So, ⁓ so yeah. lose my voice a little bit. So final question, ⁓ rich man, we've been, we've been going for about an hour and, we'll keep it light. was, it was, it was a good day. ⁓ we talked about a lot of the offense and I think we said it, but let's reiterate some things. ⁓ I want to give, I want to go back and forth. want to give four things that we can take to the bank from the offense going into. 2026. So we can go back and forth. We'll give them four. You take the first one. I'll take second three and four. So what do you think? One, you can take it to the bank that we can get that we saw at G day that will definitely transpire when we see Georgia run out of the tunnel and will happen first game of the year. Give me one. Love that. Yeah. I love that. I think for me, number two would be, think what G day showed you that you will see and will not be hidden from you. ⁓ I think our, our running backs are going to, it's going to be very similar. Like I think, honestly, they have so much confidence in three, maybe four, maybe five deep. think it's four, but I think Could bow get in there. I don't know, but I think it's four, right? think Frazier, I think billups, I think Phillips. Um, and I think that I say Phillips Bowens, not Chelsea bill. It was the NBA player, uh, Chelsea Bowens. Um, and then Dwight Phillips. And then I think Dowell will see a lot of McCrae's type snaps. I think there's nothing to hide from that. I agree. I agree. What about a third thing? What about a third thing? You think we saw that is a non-negotiable. will definitely transfer from spring to day one. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. Tight ends, rock solid. think too. ⁓ you see that we're going to be creative with them too. I don't think they're going to be in there a lot to like, like we're going to have them in there with intentionality of they are a part of the offense. And they always have been. What I'm saying is, is it could get a little more exotic as far as, know, who's blocking, who's running routes. How are we using them? How are we How are we sharing them in the formation to discourage what we're looking at from a secondary point of view and a linebacker point of view. And I won't be honest with you. ⁓ there's some linebackers in the sec that are going to have a hard time. If, if they're going to depend on linebackers to cover some of those tight ends we have, ⁓ that's where our run game goes really nuts. So I love that idea. like that thought. Last thing for me, the fourth thing I think that you can take to the bank is. ⁓ on, the offensive side of the ball, I think you can take to the bank that Gunner Stockton will be improved this year. think he will improve be improved. I think he will be much more of a better decision maker this year. I think he is a, he's a between the ears guy. I think, think a lot of questions. Yeah. I think. Yes. Yes. A hundred percent agree. And I think you can take that to the bank. I think, you know, he had nothing to prove at G day. So don't let that be discouraging. If anything that I think you could prove from gunner is the fact that he did not have that sleeve on his leg, but that to me tells me that he thinks he doesn't need any crutches or he doesn't need anything to go, you know, what if I think he's healthy? I think he's good. ⁓ and I think he's going to be a good decision maker. And I think he's going to do some things. that really transcend the quarterback position. Unlike last year, where I think there were times where we probably all felt that he was kind of game managing. Would you, would you disagree? Yeah. Right. Right. Yeah. That's good, man. Hey, rich man. It's always a pleasure, man. ⁓ I know you're busy. I know you got a lot going on to take time out, hang out on the podcast tonight. ⁓ reminisce talk offense. ⁓ it's like, it's like a bad, ⁓ taste teaser, but you know, now we have the long, it's not the long cold season. It's the, know, it's the, heating up and then hopefully the falling into fall. where we can see some Georgia football. We got a taste of it, but always great to have you out here, man. And, ⁓ talking Georgia football, let's do it more often if we can. But obviously understand if you can't, ⁓ any final thing, any final thoughts. know we talked offense, but I'll give you the chance to spread the whole word team wise. What do you, what do you, what do you got to say to us before we exit tonight? Yeah. Yeah. We're going to get to it, man. We're going to get there. And I think, I think the off season is going to be another level of, ⁓ it's another level of preparedness. I think we hit some strides in spring that could almost wonder if we're in, if we're in fall form in some parts of spring, which is really good for Georgia says a lot about contending for another sec title, winning another sec title and, ⁓ vying for national championship. Maybe just getting the curse. I mean, let's just say vying for national championship, but They, lot of Georgia fans will just say getting the curse of the first round off of us. And I think we are ⁓ leaps and bounds ahead of taking care of that. ⁓ if you haven't already done so, make sure you go and like, and follow us. are on about any podcasting platform you can think of. are on Apple podcasts, Spotify, we're an Amazon, ⁓ Instagram, Tik TOK dogs down South. ⁓ as well as what did I not name Facebook dogs down South?
