- 0:06Speaker 1: Hey guys, Welcome into the Irish Steelers Podcast, the podcast
- 0:10Speaker 1: for Steelers fans on the island of Ireland and further afield.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Coming to you in the after glow of a fantastic
- 0:18Speaker 1: Week seven win in prime time on Sunday night under
- 0:22Speaker 1: lights in Akroscher Stadium against the Jets. Jimmy English delighted
- 0:26Speaker 1: to be joined by Dave out McKee. No Michael McCay
- 0:30Speaker 1: this week. Unfortunately it is just myself and Davog. And
- 0:33Speaker 1: Davog it feels a little bit like we're unsupervised children,
- 0:37Speaker 1: been left in charge of the podcast. How are you doing, man,
- 0:39Speaker 1: Good to see you again.
- 0:41Speaker 2: See Jimmy h What is it the old phrase the
- 0:44Speaker 2: idiots run the asylum or something like that, and the
- 0:47Speaker 2: prisoner run the asylum. But yet, I'm I'm sure we're
- 0:50Speaker 2: gonna dig into it deeper. But what a weekend, What
- 0:53Speaker 2: an obsolute We again, still a bit jat lagged, but
- 0:56Speaker 2: we'll get there in the end, and of course it's
- 0:57Speaker 2: the press and that we're back here, but we'll be
- 0:59Speaker 2: back some as we've spoken about that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Definitely still feeling the after effects of the flight back
- 1:06Speaker 1: from Pittsburgh. But Dave, I mean what a fantastic four days.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard to believe that four days ago
- 1:11Speaker 1: we were just about the jet off to the steel
- 1:14Speaker 1: City and now we've crashed on the back to reality.
- 1:17Speaker 1: But we really jammed so much into the weekend, including
- 1:20Speaker 1: lots of fun filled Steeler activities. And I have my
- 1:24Speaker 1: personal favorites. But you know, out of everything that we did,
- 1:28Speaker 1: you know, in regards to the Steelers and the game
- 1:30Speaker 1: and all the different bits, what was your favorite part?
- 1:34Speaker 2: It is very difficult to pinpoint a favorite, to be honest, Jim,
- 1:38Speaker 2: It's going to be difficult for both of us to fail.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Of course, the game, you know, the fact that how
- 1:42Speaker 2: the game went, because it feels like it's a particular
- 1:44Speaker 2: turning point of our season. Of course, the first half
- 1:48Speaker 2: wasn't great. I feel like it's a tail of two halves.
- 1:50Speaker 2: First half the offense, ultimately Russell Wilson weren't good enough,
- 1:53Speaker 2: and the second half was the best half with player
- 1:55Speaker 2: all year. And the alumni dinner, of course, was just
- 1:58Speaker 2: another great opportunity for us to get our hands in
- 2:01Speaker 2: to meet some absolutely wonderful people at our tables. Shout
- 2:04Speaker 2: out to those that are listening as well. They did
- 2:06Speaker 2: imagine they were going to give us a listen. I
- 2:07Speaker 2: hope they do. But it was an absolutely amazing event
- 2:10Speaker 2: to see the legends like Franco or sorry to you know,
- 2:13Speaker 2: to go back on Franco as a maculate reception. Listening
- 2:16Speaker 2: to legends like me and Joe Green and Mail Blonde
- 2:19Speaker 2: everybody was just fantastic. And then and of course the
- 2:22Speaker 2: stadium tour, the training facility tour was just absolutely out
- 2:25Speaker 2: of this world. It really felt like we were part
- 2:27Speaker 2: of the team at times. Yeah, it's really difficult to
- 2:30Speaker 2: pin point in one but the week whole weekend as
- 2:33Speaker 2: a whole was just unreal. Shout out to the Steelers
- 2:35Speaker 2: organization for helping us out as well, because none of
- 2:38Speaker 2: this would be possible about them. So yeah, it feels
- 2:40Speaker 2: like it's hard to pick one. If I do have
- 2:42Speaker 2: to pick one, gym, it probably would be the game.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Just to actually watch the Steelers for once or for
- 2:46Speaker 2: once in our lives live in person was absolutely amazing,
- 2:50Speaker 2: so that I'll probably maybe no one might.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I completely have to agree with you, Dave. I mean,
- 2:55Speaker 1: it really are is hard or it's extremely hard, if
- 2:58Speaker 1: not impossible, to pinpoint one thing that stood out as
- 3:01Speaker 1: being the best thing. I mean, the Steelers really did
- 3:04Speaker 1: give us a such a behind the scenes, no holds
- 3:08Speaker 1: barred Steelers experience. And again, thank you so much to
- 3:12Speaker 1: to Reagan and Dan and all the Steelers team for
- 3:15Speaker 1: literally making our dreams come true. I mean, Dave, I
- 3:17Speaker 1: mean it really was for me at least a dream
- 3:20Speaker 1: come true, culminating on Sunday night with the primetime fixer
- 3:23Speaker 1: against the Jets. And we'll come to that in just
- 3:25Speaker 1: a few minutes time, but I think for me it
- 3:28Speaker 1: was really getting to see the Steelers organization up close
- 3:31Speaker 1: and personal. Of course, we had the we had the
- 3:33Speaker 1: alumni dinner on I believe it was. It was it
- 3:37Speaker 1: was the Friday night of the Saturday night. Honestly, I
- 3:39Speaker 1: can't remember if they've all kind of blended into Saturday night.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Believe it was.
- 3:43Speaker 1: It was a Saturday night, and just like you say,
- 3:46Speaker 1: absolutely incredible to mingle with such Steelers legends such as
- 3:50Speaker 1: Joe Green, Mel Blunt Linz one Rocky Blyer course, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: just to hear all those fantastic stories from the from
- 3:57Speaker 1: the first Super Bowl win under coach Chuck Noll. That
- 4:01Speaker 1: really was a wonderful leaving. And then on Saturday afternoon,
- 4:05Speaker 1: we really got in behind the scenes with a facility
- 4:07Speaker 1: tour at the UPMC complex there on the south side
- 4:12Speaker 1: of Pittsburgh. And again massive thank you to Reagan for
- 4:15Speaker 1: his for his tour guide skills. We got to see
- 4:18Speaker 1: inside the behemo at indoor practice facility, We saw the
- 4:21Speaker 1: weight room. It really was just I was walking around
- 4:25Speaker 1: pinching myself, going I've seen pictures of this place of
- 4:28Speaker 1: the Lombardies in their trophy cases, but I could never
- 4:30Speaker 1: have imagined that we would get up close and personal.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So and then of course the game. I mean, just
- 4:36Speaker 1: what an incredible experience. Getting to witness a game inside
- 4:39Speaker 1: of Akroscher Stadium and to pull off the win as
- 4:42Speaker 1: well after a bit of a slow start was fantastic.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, just a just a quick one back on the facility.
- 4:49Speaker 2: It's important to remember Jim as well. There was a
- 4:52Speaker 2: specific beside the Lombardi trophies or specific shedd up to
- 4:55Speaker 2: the American Bowl as well. There was just the shows,
- 4:58Speaker 2: you you know, the lengths that Seelers are willing to
- 5:00Speaker 2: go to support our ars, Fonts and the NFL fans
- 5:03Speaker 2: on the end of Arnold as a whole. So shout
- 5:05Speaker 2: out to the Steelers. That was an absolute turn up,
- 5:08Speaker 2: Like that was a massive eye open an moment for
- 5:10Speaker 2: me because you do think sometimes maybe you know how
- 5:13Speaker 2: seriously you know we are being taken. That's for me
- 5:17Speaker 2: showed volumes. To have that American Boat Trophy the poster
- 5:20Speaker 2: against Chicago burs back in nineteen eighty seven was a
- 5:23Speaker 2: massive thing for me. So that's another shouting point the
- 5:26Speaker 2: game as well. Yeah, I think we're going to jump
- 5:28Speaker 2: into the game a bit, but for me it was amazing.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean just to be in the atmosphere, ending
- 5:33Speaker 1: amongst the true die hard fans, just to hear, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 1: the cries of moot when you had that one handed grab,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and I think just watching the runout the pre game,
- 5:43Speaker 1: everything was just incredible. So we got the win at
- 5:46Speaker 1: the end. Dave a bit of a slow start for
- 5:48Speaker 1: the Steelers on offense and on defense, the Jets of
- 5:51Speaker 1: course claiming the opening touchdown, but from the middle of
- 5:55Speaker 1: the second quarter on it was really all Steelers offense
- 5:59Speaker 1: started click, we got some big scores. What are your
- 6:02Speaker 1: initial thoughts as you kind of reflect and you've had
- 6:04Speaker 1: time and to look back and come out of the
- 6:07Speaker 1: days that we were in as we were walking in
- 6:08Speaker 1: a backer sure on on the late hours of Sunday night.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what, Jim, It's it's one of those
- 6:15Speaker 2: where it really was a tale of two halves. I
- 6:17Speaker 2: mean first half specifically.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Struggling.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It was struggling. You know, it was difficult to watch
- 6:23Speaker 2: the time as you know we were even though we
- 6:25Speaker 2: were there in person. It was like, Wow, this is
- 6:27Speaker 2: maybe not going to turn out the way we would hope.
- 6:29Speaker 2: But you know that first Bishop Beanie Bishop sorry, interception
- 6:34Speaker 2: just turned the whole game on its head. Aran Rodgers
- 6:37Speaker 2: spiral that a controlled from then the fact that we
- 6:40Speaker 2: scored touchdown on that drive as well, that that fear
- 6:44Speaker 2: that you called, I must say I did. He said
- 6:47Speaker 2: we're down for a George peck and feed here. I
- 6:49Speaker 2: wouldn't you know that look be fit into the corner
- 6:51Speaker 2: of the end zone really sat us off sacond half
- 6:53Speaker 2: as well. I mean, to keep the ar Rodgers and
- 6:56Speaker 2: the Jets scoreless. The entire second half is a feet
- 6:59Speaker 2: in its own. It's just shoots you how good our
- 7:00Speaker 2: defense really is when they are plugged in. And of
- 7:04Speaker 2: course we did match it with matching it on several
- 7:06Speaker 2: podcasts this year. We need to see George Peckin get
- 7:09Speaker 2: this touchdown, and he finally got so hopefully that'll be
- 7:11Speaker 2: a kick on. Now we've got our quarterback in situation
- 7:15Speaker 2: at the moment, Russell Wilson, I feel believe in going forward,
- 7:18Speaker 2: he has to start each game.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I mean, it's just a no brainer for me.
- 7:21Speaker 2: How he performed in that second half was the old
- 7:24Speaker 2: Russell Wilson we got to see in Seattle, and I
- 7:26Speaker 2: feel that was always there. I know there had been
- 7:28Speaker 2: you know, heck ups and turns and questions asking is
- 7:31Speaker 2: that Russell Wilson there? I think he answered every single
- 7:34Speaker 2: question on Sunday night. So for me, good to see
- 7:37Speaker 2: the offense finally getting a good rhythm going, showing that
- 7:40Speaker 2: no matter what I think the adversary of being very
- 7:43Speaker 2: poor in the first half, the ability to bounce back
- 7:45Speaker 2: and ultimately was a great scene. So I think we're
- 7:48Speaker 2: finally we're finally being taken serious now because people look
- 7:51Speaker 2: at us now and think, wow, this team has the
- 7:53Speaker 2: ability to bounce back. So thus, ultimately my thoughts feeling
- 7:57Speaker 2: going into the next week against the Gants hopefully another way,
- 8:00Speaker 2: who knows, but much of the same going forward.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I hope it was definitely interesting Davogue to see how
- 8:10Speaker 1: the offense struggled early on. Obviously there was always going
- 8:13Speaker 1: to be a bit of rust out with Russell Wilson
- 8:15Speaker 1: playing in his first game in the season plus, but
- 8:18Speaker 1: I think once he got going and once he found
- 8:19Speaker 1: that chemistry, he had an early, huge early completion down
- 8:23Speaker 1: the sideline to George Pickens that he plays perfectly, and
- 8:25Speaker 1: I think that kind of sparked him a little bit.
- 8:27Speaker 1: There were some miscues which you would expect, and I
- 8:31Speaker 1: think the patients ultimately paid off. But as you alluded
- 8:35Speaker 1: to that Beanie Bishop one had interception really was the
- 8:38Speaker 1: spark that got things going, got the juices flowing, and
- 8:42Speaker 1: I think that might have given our offense a bit
- 8:44Speaker 1: of a kick. And it's also great to see that
- 8:47Speaker 1: despite only having one sack, which is quite low with
- 8:51Speaker 1: the Steelers, I mean, Nick Herbig and TJ. Watt were
- 8:54Speaker 1: quite quiet for most of the night. Sorry, I apologized
- 8:56Speaker 1: Alex Heigsmith. Great to see him back by the way
- 8:59Speaker 1: playing off the other edge, but that obviously gave opportunities
- 9:03Speaker 1: for other players to step into the into the spotlight.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Beanie Bishop, for me, his hands down the player of
- 9:08Speaker 1: that game. Just for an undrafted rookie to do that
- 9:11Speaker 1: is just incredible. And to have not one but two interceptions,
- 9:14Speaker 1: one of which he almost ran back for a for
- 9:18Speaker 1: a pick six. I mean, that just would have been
- 9:20Speaker 1: that would have been phenomenal. But I have to give
- 9:22Speaker 1: a shout out to Peyton Wilson as well, the the
- 9:25Speaker 1: rookie linebacker playing playing in number one, number forty one.
- 9:30Speaker 3: He was.
- 9:30Speaker 1: We even said it during the game. He was flying around,
- 9:32Speaker 1: making tackles, playing with his hair on fire. So great
- 9:35Speaker 1: to see him have an impact on the game as well.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I was I was just going to jump in there
- 9:39Speaker 2: and say, Jimmy, I think we were. I think I
- 9:42Speaker 2: wasn't aware. When you're actually at the game. They mangined
- 9:44Speaker 2: the tackles on the on the big on the microphone,
- 9:47Speaker 2: I'd said, the commentator is probably second hard of hearing
- 9:50Speaker 2: Saint Pete and Wilson's name. He was absolutely everywhere. He
- 9:52Speaker 2: covered avery blade of grass, tackling left right in the center.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Of course, we knew what he was like coming out
- 9:57Speaker 2: of college. He's got that feistiness in him. What he is,
- 10:01Speaker 2: he is our for me. You know, it's difficult because
- 10:04Speaker 2: our lineback and core is so strong. Well, that middle
- 10:06Speaker 2: linebacker position suits him to a tea. I mean, no
- 10:08Speaker 2: matter what, he's going to hit players as they come
- 10:10Speaker 2: across the middle. I would not be like to be
- 10:13Speaker 2: opposing tight ends and receivers coming across that middle when
- 10:15Speaker 2: they're playing against us. So shout out to Peyton Wilson
- 10:18Speaker 2: as well. Fantastic performance. Russell Wilson of course as well,
- 10:22Speaker 2: deserves a slot of But yeah, a player of the
- 10:24Speaker 2: game for me has to be being bitship. The impact
- 10:27Speaker 2: he had on that first interception particularly, it just felt
- 10:29Speaker 2: like an absolute turning point because we were able to
- 10:31Speaker 2: go and score touchdown on that drive, which ultimately set
- 10:34Speaker 2: us up the sacond half. So he deserves a lot
- 10:37Speaker 2: of credit. And it's difficult depend you know one, but
- 10:39Speaker 2: if there is going to have this going to be
- 10:41Speaker 2: have to begin.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Thick as well. To see George Piggins having such a
- 10:45Speaker 1: massive impact on the game. I mean, we know what
- 10:47Speaker 1: he's capable of. He has been showing flashes, but I
- 10:51Speaker 1: think it did take just that extra level of maturity
- 10:53Speaker 1: and expertise quarterback wise to get him going. So fantastic
- 10:58Speaker 1: to see him getting his first pushed inn of the
- 11:00Speaker 1: season and definitely much more come. And we were definitely
- 11:04Speaker 1: happy men walking into that stadium on Sunday night. And
- 11:07Speaker 1: another happy man I'm sure was Mike Thommin And we
- 11:10Speaker 1: can hear from now on the Irish Theaters podcast.
- 11:12Speaker 3: A long timetime football at acting. Sure, Man, I'm just
- 11:15Speaker 3: really appreciative of the atmosphere and in the quality of play.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I thought we got stronger as the game went on
- 11:22Speaker 3: in all three phases. Man, We made plays in all
- 11:26Speaker 3: three phases last night. We talked about a player performance,
- 11:29Speaker 3: particularly on stages such as this, primetime television and so forth,
- 11:33Speaker 3: and I just thought we had a lot of guys
- 11:35Speaker 3: that displayed a player characteristics. Can't say enough about young
- 11:38Speaker 3: Beanie Bishop Man's that's an awesome evening, man, for him
- 11:42Speaker 3: to get his first two interceptions versus a gold jacket
- 11:45Speaker 3: guy like Aaron Rodgers.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Man.
- 11:48Speaker 3: We just appreciative of the work that was done tonight
- 11:50Speaker 3: to make to make the night what it was. Hopefully
- 11:54Speaker 3: it's growth in this as we move forward, man, but
- 11:57Speaker 3: it's good to get a win. We had a couple
- 11:59Speaker 3: of injuries. Mon Adams had a knee injury wasn't able
- 12:02Speaker 3: to return. Uh Dante Jackson had a shoulder injury wasn't
- 12:06Speaker 3: able to return. We had some other bumps and bruises
- 12:08Speaker 3: associated with play. But man, I'm just really appreciative of
- 12:13Speaker 3: the efforts of the men. Questions, how would you evaluate
- 12:16Speaker 3: Russ tonight? You know, I thought he I thought he
- 12:19Speaker 3: was excellent. I thought he got better as the game
- 12:22Speaker 3: went on. Man, I thought he But I'm not surprised
- 12:25Speaker 3: by that. Man. It's it's been a while since he's
- 12:27Speaker 3: played some ball, But I thought he he settled in,
- 12:30Speaker 3: knocked a rust off man and distributed the ball around
- 12:32Speaker 3: and and played well.
- 12:34Speaker 2: It's part of that wanting to see how guys respond
- 12:36Speaker 2: to him, how the team plays with Russ under center. Yes,
- 12:42Speaker 2: coach your thoughts on just how the special team continues
- 12:45Speaker 2: to respond with Splash plays with the blocks.
- 12:48Speaker 3: You know, we got a we got a block culture
- 12:50Speaker 3: here that that we embrace and we embrace it with
- 12:55Speaker 3: our with our work during the course of the week. Man,
- 12:57Speaker 3: we got a lot of guys that put a lot
- 13:00Speaker 3: of effort into into into the techniques that's required to
- 13:03Speaker 3: deliver and and so I'm just appreciative of that.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Man.
- 13:07Speaker 3: It's it's it's it's pretty awesome. It is significant and
- 13:11Speaker 3: it has been I'm appreciative.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Like you've talked about learning about your players when university hits.
- 13:17Speaker 4: What did you learn about Russell Wilson tonight?
- 13:20Speaker 3: It was my first time in the stadium with him,
- 13:22Speaker 3: and so you know, I learned a lot about him,
- 13:24Speaker 3: to be quite honest with you, but not in in
- 13:27Speaker 3: reference to the conversation that you're talking about. It was
- 13:29Speaker 3: just my first time in the stadium with him, and
- 13:31Speaker 3: so uh in game demeanor, UH, communication and skills, listening skills.
- 13:37Speaker 3: It was just a it was a good experience for me.
- 13:39Speaker 2: You consider using justin at all any of those short
- 13:41Speaker 2: yardage back UH opportunities, I.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Did not What does it say that Russ kept the
- 13:48Speaker 4: ball in and UH pushed his way in for that
- 13:50Speaker 4: one yard rushing touchdown? And what did you learn about
- 13:53Speaker 4: maybe his resilience and his strength in that moment?
- 13:55Speaker 3: It was just a sneak.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Reports he did have a Georgian out there.
- 14:01Speaker 3: You know, George in one on one circumstances, is is
- 14:03Speaker 3: a good target and and he displayed the reasons why
- 14:08Speaker 3: he takes some early reps during camp or you how
- 14:11Speaker 3: have you seen him grow over his opportunities here. You know,
- 14:14Speaker 3: he's grown in all areas. There's a lot to cover
- 14:16Speaker 3: when you're a rookie. But the one thing I'll say
- 14:19Speaker 3: about him is he never shrinks. The situations aren't too
- 14:23Speaker 3: big for him, and he's learning. He's open to learning.
- 14:27Speaker 3: He has good questions. I meet with him every Friday
- 14:30Speaker 3: morning as we lean in on situational ball. He's doing
- 14:34Speaker 3: a lot of the little things. Well, man, it's it's
- 14:36Speaker 3: a he He's on a good trajectory.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Feel like his first interception was kind of a m
- 14:40Speaker 1: momentum switch for.
- 14:41Speaker 3: You guys, without a doubt, Without a doubt, man, two
- 14:45Speaker 3: minute football, we know Aaron's gonna be aggressive. Uh, we
- 14:48Speaker 3: switched up the schematics and uh, he made a significant play.
- 14:51Speaker 3: He meaning Beanie coach.
- 14:53Speaker 2: You seem like the smiles at least from the press
- 14:54Speaker 2: box and the players on the field after the win,
- 14:57Speaker 2: they've really seen Julie Lenot, did you fill that in
- 15:01Speaker 2: the locker room?
- 15:01Speaker 3: I know, yeah, Like it's a big win. It's a
- 15:05Speaker 3: big win on Sunday night ball man.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Heck yeah, all right, kind of what he said there.
- 15:11Speaker 2: You guys have more than thirty others warning back to
- 15:13Speaker 2: back weeks the first time since twenty twenty.
- 15:15Speaker 4: How refreshing is that to have that sort of out
- 15:16Speaker 4: put him back to back weeks.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I hadn't absorbed it in that way. Man. Really, he
- 15:20Speaker 3: was trying to do what's required to win. I'm appreciative
- 15:22Speaker 3: of other efforts. B Marshall. What's up? Yes, sir, let
- 15:28Speaker 3: me brace myself one of you.
- 15:34Speaker 1: To go away three.
- 15:36Speaker 3: That's why. That's why I'm well compensated. Thank you. Yes.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Great to hear there from that coach Mike Tomplin him
- 15:48Speaker 1: with such a positive message on you know, feeling great
- 15:51Speaker 1: after the game against the Jets. But we have to
- 15:54Speaker 1: take the momentum there, Dave, as we have another relatively
- 15:58Speaker 1: tricky game coming up quite quickly. The Giants come to
- 16:02Speaker 1: town on Monday night football in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are
- 16:05Speaker 1: wearing their color Rush uniforms. It was announced earlier on
- 16:09Speaker 1: so another great jersey for fans to enjoy that game. Guys,
- 16:13Speaker 1: if you are listening, don't forget it starts at the
- 16:15Speaker 1: earlier time of a quarter past midnight next Tuesday morning
- 16:19Speaker 1: slash Monday night, because in Ireland the clocks do go
- 16:22Speaker 1: back on Saturday evening, so don't get caught out. I
- 16:25Speaker 1: know I have definitely got caught out in the past.
- 16:27Speaker 1: But Davo, the Giants are coming off a tough loss
- 16:29Speaker 1: against the Eagles on the road. Daniel Jones was sacked
- 16:34Speaker 1: eight times against the Birds, so this could be potentially
- 16:40Speaker 1: a trap game for us, But I think the way
- 16:41Speaker 1: the Steelers are playing, we should be Okay. What are
- 16:44Speaker 1: your keys to the game for the Steelers?
- 16:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Jim, it's one of the games I
- 16:49Speaker 2: think that we mark down as a win automatically on
- 16:51Speaker 2: our on our schedule, preseason schedule, sorry in Belfast when
- 16:56Speaker 2: without recording. But for me, there's really not much as
- 17:00Speaker 2: if we play our regular game. I don't see why
- 17:02Speaker 2: we shouldn't be able to do what the Eagles did.
- 17:04Speaker 2: They were able to put a lot of pressure and
- 17:06Speaker 2: Daniel Jones they've got, you know, I think our past
- 17:07Speaker 2: rush is a lot better than the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 17:10Speaker 1: That's just my opinion.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Daniel Jones, let's befer. He's a limited quarterback at best.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I do not know what the Gants we're doing paying
- 17:17Speaker 2: them that money, And because there's a lot of stronger
- 17:19Speaker 2: nes I will say this though they do have a
- 17:22Speaker 2: good offensive line despite you know, the pressure of the
- 17:25Speaker 2: Eagles put them on Sunday. We obviously got to watch
- 17:27Speaker 2: a bit of that game. And of course their defense
- 17:30Speaker 2: is you know as a Thibodeau. Thibodeau, he's a good piece.
- 17:37Speaker 2: They puck up in the I think it was in
- 17:39Speaker 2: last year's draft, or even maybe this Year's not entirely sure,
- 17:42Speaker 2: but they've got a few good pieces on the defensive side. Realistically, Jim,
- 17:47Speaker 2: I don't know, what do you think. I don't see
- 17:49Speaker 2: anything other than our Steelers win. Of course, it's it's
- 17:51Speaker 2: always difficult to back up a performance on prime time,
- 17:55Speaker 2: you know, a highly emotional win. Let's be honest, it
- 17:57Speaker 2: was an emotional win because the phasical turn of the page,
- 18:00Speaker 2: it's hard to back that up. But I think if
- 18:02Speaker 2: there is a team that we could play right now,
- 18:04Speaker 2: it has to be the New York James. So I
- 18:06Speaker 2: don't see anything other than the Staders when if we
- 18:07Speaker 2: come prepared, you know, don't obviously undersell them. We noticed
- 18:12Speaker 2: the National Football League, you can lose any game. It's
- 18:14Speaker 2: easy to lose games, it's very hard to win them.
- 18:16Speaker 2: So if we come prepared, ready to play, bring that
- 18:19Speaker 2: offensive tenacity, we did on Sunday night. I don't see anything.
- 18:22Speaker 2: All of them standers win back to.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Back games against New York teams. It's always interesting, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: I think that there's gonna be a lot of comparison
- 18:30Speaker 1: between the performances we see on Monday night versus what
- 18:33Speaker 1: we saw against the Jets. I think, for me, Davout,
- 18:36Speaker 1: obviously we need to get more pressure on the quarterback.
- 18:39Speaker 1: We saw how that pressure from the Eagles affected Daniel
- 18:42Speaker 1: Jones on suddenly just gone again. As we mentioned earlier,
- 18:46Speaker 1: on our defensive front from a rush perspective, were quite
- 18:51Speaker 1: I mean they were quite limited. I think we only
- 18:52Speaker 1: had one sack in total last Sunday night. So definitely
- 18:57Speaker 1: need to give more pressure off the edges and get
- 18:59Speaker 1: to Daniel Jones as quickly as possible and throw him
- 19:02Speaker 1: off as rhythm, so that I think establishing the pass
- 19:05Speaker 1: rush early on. I mean, if the Eagles can sack
- 19:08Speaker 1: Daniel Jones eight times, I don't think I don't see
- 19:10Speaker 1: why we can't match it, if not exceeded. So that's
- 19:12Speaker 1: what we're hoping for. Ten sacks on on on Monday night.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I think offensively as well. Elik Neighbors is obviously their
- 19:19Speaker 1: biggest threat wide receiver wise, he was quite quiet against
- 19:24Speaker 1: the Eagles, So if we can can continue to contain him,
- 19:27Speaker 1: I think we're going to have an excellent chance and
- 19:29Speaker 1: then offensively, just keep doing what we build on the
- 19:33Speaker 1: performance from Sunday night against the get from the Jets.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I'd love to see a great to see of course,
- 19:37Speaker 1: Nagie Harris get its second rushing touchdown. It was quite
- 19:40Speaker 1: surprising that they went for it on fourth down that
- 19:42Speaker 1: lave in the fourth quarter on Sunday night, and it
- 19:44Speaker 1: was fantastic to see him jump into the crowd and
- 19:46Speaker 1: celebrate with the fans afterwards. That was a special moment
- 19:49Speaker 1: for those fans down there. And again, just get get,
- 19:53Speaker 1: get George Pickens moving again and get it. Get him.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Obviously the connection is there now, the catches are there.
- 19:58Speaker 1: It's just time. I want to see him have a
- 20:00Speaker 1: a multi touchdown performance against the against the Giants. Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 2: And also also Jimmy, sorry for completely forgot about it
- 20:07Speaker 2: in Sunday, shout out to Danny Smith and the special
- 20:09Speaker 2: teams because another block field goal. I mean, how many
- 20:13Speaker 2: block We easily have the best special teams in the league.
- 20:15Speaker 2: It's not even close. I mean the amount of block punts,
- 20:17Speaker 2: block field goals. It just shows we are proper. It
- 20:20Speaker 2: is proper Steelers football, but absolute. You know, I'm gonna
- 20:25Speaker 2: call him am session to just make a play. It
- 20:28Speaker 2: just faced that got on every single occasion and shout
- 20:31Speaker 2: to the Ice Smith. I was absolutely buzzing off the
- 20:33Speaker 2: game to see the celebrations. It wasn't one hundred percent
- 20:35Speaker 2: sure as well as that, I'm just remembering as well,
- 20:38Speaker 2: though I do remember. I think Daniel Jones did also
- 20:40Speaker 2: get pulled from the game on Sunday, So it'll be
- 20:42Speaker 2: interesting to see if it's it's either him or Drew Locke.
- 20:45Speaker 2: For me, probably rather play Daniel Jones because I just
- 20:48Speaker 2: know he has that bit of a mean streak and
- 20:51Speaker 2: when he put under pressure he can throw pecks. So
- 20:53Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see what happens there. But yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 2: there's really no excuse for an awesome lot occasion.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I think we know which way we're leading, Dave prediction wise,
- 21:03Speaker 1: what I have to ask anyway, give us your prediction
- 21:07Speaker 1: and give us your score. Yeah, so no surprise.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever give a Steelers loss on
- 21:13Speaker 2: the podcast, and I think it's going to continue again.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I'm going to go twenty four fourteen Steelers. I think
- 21:21Speaker 2: it could be, but the fact that it is a
- 21:22Speaker 2: stand alone game and the chance do have to bounce back,
- 21:25Speaker 2: and of course it's difficult, as I said, it's difficult
- 21:27Speaker 2: to keep that scene to nasty week by week. But
- 21:30Speaker 2: I just film maybe it could be a bit closer
- 21:31Speaker 2: than people anticipate. But ultimately it doesn't matter as long
- 21:36Speaker 2: as we play to our strengths, which is now going
- 21:39Speaker 2: to be putting pressure on Daniel Jones. I don't really
- 21:41Speaker 2: see any other thing other than a Steelers win. So
- 21:43Speaker 2: I think twenty four to ten Steelers, and as I've
- 21:46Speaker 2: said on every Steelers podcast, for take that to the bank,
- 21:50Speaker 2: it's going to be Steelers win and watch out for it.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I'm also going to go with a Steelers win. I
- 21:55Speaker 1: think I don't think I've ever bet against the Steels.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I probably have. I do recall in Belfast's way back
- 22:01Speaker 1: when over the summer giving some losses, but I think
- 22:04Speaker 1: I have a lot more optimism now seeing that. I mean,
- 22:07Speaker 1: our defense was always playing steatar. Our defense has played
- 22:10Speaker 1: stead are all season long, has been the backbone of
- 22:13Speaker 1: the team. But I think now, like with that extra
- 22:16Speaker 1: level at quarterback, I have a lot more optimism about
- 22:20Speaker 1: that we can the fact that we can put up points.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I'm also going to give a Steelers win. I don't
- 22:25Speaker 1: think there'll be quite as many fireworks as we saw
- 22:28Speaker 1: on Sunday night. I think defensively, the Giants might put
- 22:32Speaker 1: up a little bit more of a challenge for us.
- 22:34Speaker 1: But I'm gonna go with a Steelers win. I'm gonna
- 22:36Speaker 1: go Steelers twenty eight, Giants seventeen. I do think the
- 22:41Speaker 1: Steelers get to win on the road on Monday Night football.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I do think we continue to see lots of positivity.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I mean, Dave, the Steelers are five and two right now.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I mean we're tied for the lead of the AC
- 22:52Speaker 1: NOR with the Ravens, and at the start of the season,
- 22:55Speaker 1: if you had asked me then I genuinely don't think
- 22:57Speaker 1: I would have predicted being where we are. I think
- 23:00Speaker 1: we're one of the We're quietly one of the best
- 23:02Speaker 1: teams in the NFL, and we might be as flashy
- 23:04Speaker 1: as some of the other you know, the legs of
- 23:06Speaker 1: the Lions or who else have you. But I think
- 23:09Speaker 1: that the Steaders are in the background and the Steelers
- 23:11Speaker 1: are sneaky good this season so far.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Absolutely, I mean, I think it was important that we
- 23:17Speaker 2: did get off to a good start because we know
- 23:18Speaker 2: how difficult it is after that Bay. You know, we've
- 23:21Speaker 2: got the AFC North infloction. I feel like, you know,
- 23:24Speaker 2: we're facing all the teams there. Of course, the Cleveland
- 23:26Speaker 2: Brans aren't as good as we first expected. But yeah, no,
- 23:31Speaker 2: I'm really happy where we're at at the moment. I
- 23:33Speaker 2: completely agree with you. I think when people say about
- 23:36Speaker 2: the best teams in the NFL, now, they're matching the Chiefs.
- 23:38Speaker 2: They're matching in the Ravens. They're even matching the Bengals, who,
- 23:41Speaker 2: of course they're getting on a bit of a run now,
- 23:43Speaker 2: but you know, the schedule or the standing say completely different.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I feel quietly we're are coming under the raidar and
- 23:49Speaker 2: that's exactly where we want to be. I mean, Mike
- 23:51Speaker 2: Tomlin talks about it all the time. We like when
- 23:53Speaker 2: nobody talks about us because we have that underdog abil
- 23:56Speaker 2: day to come back when nobody's tracts us to So
- 23:59Speaker 2: I feel we are exactly where we want to be.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And of course we have had bad but you know,
- 24:04Speaker 2: we've had some bad performances.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I mean, there's no denying that.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I mean, but look at the Kansas City Chiefs that
- 24:09Speaker 2: have been playing awful and they find themselves sex and zero.
- 24:11Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm really happy where we're us. I think
- 24:14Speaker 2: it's only up from here that I have to say.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Even after the Raiders game, you know, I wasn't completely
- 24:19Speaker 2: satisfied with how the game might of course I was happy,
- 24:22Speaker 2: but I feel now we're in a real good position
- 24:24Speaker 2: to kick on and I feel like there's a good
- 24:26Speaker 2: opportunity here to fly in under the radar where I
- 24:28Speaker 2: feel like the postseason is calling us. Of course, we
- 24:30Speaker 2: have to get there if of course, we always do
- 24:33Speaker 2: as well. But if we do get there, I think
- 24:35Speaker 2: we're going to be one of the teams to watch
- 24:36Speaker 2: out for.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Do you agree with everything you say, Dave? Don't book
- 24:41Speaker 1: the tickets to New Orleans just yet, but we have
- 24:44Speaker 1: quiet optimism about booking a ticket to the postseason. The game,
- 24:49Speaker 1: of course, this Monday night slash Tuesday morning is live
- 24:52Speaker 1: on Sky Sports. I'm sure it'll be live as well
- 24:55Speaker 1: on OTB Radio. And if you are staying up with
- 25:00Speaker 1: you have any thoughts ahead of the game, do make
- 25:02Speaker 1: sure to let us know on social at Steeters Ireland
- 25:04Speaker 1: on x on Instagram and TikTok using hashtag Steelers Ireland
- 25:10Speaker 1: to day. We will be back on Tuesday next I
- 25:13Speaker 1: hope to hopefully be reviewing a win where the Steers
- 25:18Speaker 1: sitting six and two in the AFC North And like
- 25:21Speaker 1: I said, Steeters are sneaky good.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Dave.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I mean, it's good to see you again after spending
- 25:27Speaker 1: four days with you in Pittsburgh, and I'm sure we'll
- 25:31Speaker 1: be we'll catch up soon, well do Jim?
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yet, as I say, I'm still feeling a bit jet lag,
- 25:36Speaker 2: still feel a bit rusty.
- 25:37Speaker 1: But what what what was it for this?
- 25:40Speaker 2: It feels like it was four weeks.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I mean, I know live in the dream, had dream
- 25:43Speaker 1: come true in Pittsburgh and the Steel City.
- 25:45Speaker 2: For I muss, I miss cars driving on the right
- 25:48Speaker 2: hand sound of the right hand side of the roadside. Jim,
- 25:51Speaker 2: that's how like emotionally the straw. I am to be back,
- 25:54Speaker 2: and of course it's always good to be back. But
- 25:56Speaker 2: for me trip of a lifetime. We will one hundred
- 25:58Speaker 2: percent be back. I mean, what to sety, what a place?
- 26:01Speaker 2: What the people are absolutely fantastic, so kind, We met
- 26:05Speaker 2: some great people. Shout out to the Running family as well,
- 26:08Speaker 2: and shout out to Reagan for that for the massive
- 26:10Speaker 2: experience we've had. So yeah, ultimately we will be back,
- 26:14Speaker 2: don't worry about that, and we'll be back with our
- 26:17Speaker 2: terrible talents, hopefully sooner rather than later.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Pittsburgh, we will be back. But for now, this has
- 26:22Speaker 1: been the Irish Theaders podcast. We will talk to you
- 26:24Speaker 1: all soon. Here we go, Here we go.
