- 0:00Speaker 1: My ninety degree rule will be in effect for people
- 0:04who fall a golf or play golf. They understand what
- 0:08a ninety degree rule is. It's when you can take
- 0:10your cart path down to the take your cart, your
- 0:13golf cart down the cart path to a ninety degree
- 0:17angle to where you hit your golf ball, and then
- 0:20turn it at the ninety degree angle either left or
- 0:22right to go out to your ball that still preserve
- 0:25the fairway conditions and that sort of thing. I have
- 0:28a ninety degree rule for our attire as broadcasters, and
- 0:34that is if it's temperately climate, if it's a very
- 0:42temperate club, like in the like when we were up
- 0:44in Michigan and it was in the fifties when we
- 0:47were started, we're wearing we were wearing sport jackets and turtlenecks,
- 0:53that sort of thing. And we'll wear coat and tie
- 0:57on occasion as well. But if the temper or the
- 1:00heat indecks is forecast to reach ninety that day, we
- 1:04just go and polosh or coaches polos. Is what makes
- 1:09Roger Wallace very happy to me. He likes that. So
- 1:13the forecast I for Dallas on Saturay, I think it's
- 1:16ninety three, so we'll be in the Polos on Saturday.
- 1:19I don't think there's any doubt about that. Yep, it's
- 1:23not ninety or thereabouts. In New York, the Mets and
- 1:27Phillies are playing Game three of their National League Division series,
- 1:31and the Mets are out to a one nothing lead
- 1:34as the Phillies beat on the top of the third inning.
- 1:36Shanm and I on the mound for the Mets this afternoon,
- 1:39so it's one nothing Mets again. That series is tied
- 1:43at a game of piece. That best of five. Game
- 1:45three of the other National League Division series takes place
- 1:49tonight at eight o'clock in San Diego, with the Padres
- 1:51and Dodgers tied at a game of piece. San Diego
- 1:55with the decided edge and the pitching now because they're
- 1:59starting pitching is really set up well. With Michael King
- 2:04set to go for the Padres, the Dodgers are having
- 2:06to go to Walker Bueller and hope, hope he can
- 2:09dial it in. He's been, he's been better of late,
- 2:12but he's not the old, you know, Walker Bueler like
- 2:18he was before he had to have the first of
- 2:20now two Tommy John surgeries. So uh, well, we'll see
- 2:24about that how as it goes. And then and it's
- 2:25a travel day for the American League Division Series. Cleveland
- 2:28Detroit will play Game three tomorrow at Comerica Park in Detroit,
- 2:32and the Yankees and Royals will play Game three tomorrow
- 2:36Kaufin Stadium in Kansas City. Both those series tied to
- 2:39a game apiece, all four Division Series one one going
- 2:42into today's activity.
- 2:44Speaker 2: How about Bobby Witt Junior hitless, hitless for the playoffs so.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Far, hitless and the Royals finding a way to win
- 2:52without that? What if he ever turns it on? And
- 2:54you know, Aaron Judge hasn't exactly lit it up since
- 2:58he's been going, so it's it's been other guys who
- 3:02have made the difference so far for both of those
- 3:03ball clubs. Salvador Perez a big home run last night.
- 3:08You know, they've had other guys chip in and make
- 3:11a difference on them. To the NFL, And you said
- 3:15it at the top of the program, and I'm in
- 3:16agreement with you. I did not expect the first coach
- 3:24to be fired in the NFL this season to be
- 3:28Robert Salah the Jets. I did not Woody Johnson is
- 3:32the Jets owner, he said, and it kind of stung
- 3:35to a lot of people. He named his defensive coordinator,
- 3:39Jeff Ulbridge as the interim head coach. Sala was fired
- 3:43Woody Johnson, his first in season coaching change in twenty
- 3:49five years of ownership, and he said he consulted with
- 3:52general manager Joe Douglass, but called it, quote my decision
- 3:56and mine alone. Well that kind of has a Jerry
- 3:59Jones play too a little. It was is my decision
- 4:02and mine alone. And hypothetically I'm smiling when I say that.
- 4:07But Woody Johnson and his brother, Christopher Johnson, the vice chairman,
- 4:11broke the news to Salah in his office at the
- 4:14team facility. According to sources, Sola was shocked and don't
- 4:18you always love this?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yep?
- 4:20Speaker 1: I escorted to the car by the director of security
- 4:24as protocol, all that kind of stuff. Johnson said on
- 4:30the conference call with reporters, quote, this is probably the
- 4:33best team I've had in twenty five years. I just
- 4:35felt that the best way to go forward was a
- 4:37new direction, taking Jeff Ulbert and making him the interim
- 4:40head coach. I thought that would get the most out
- 4:42of this team and give us the best chance that
- 4:46we all want to have, which is going to the playoffs.
- 4:50So Sala finishes at twenty and thirty six in his
- 4:56time there, and there was some discussion speculation that there
- 5:08was a difference of opinion on how the offense was
- 5:14to be run with Aaron Rodgers. But what he Johnson
- 5:17said Rogers had no input into the coaching change. He
- 5:21said he spoke to Rogers after Sunday's game, claiming solid
- 5:25status or a potential move was not discussed. There had
- 5:29been speculation of this rift between those two dating the
- 5:32Sola's decision to find Rogers for taking a vacation to
- 5:37Egypt during the mandatory mini camp, but publicly both men
- 5:41denied any friction in the relationship. So he's done, he's gone,
- 5:47and it'll be interesting to see what happens with the
- 5:49Jets going forward on that now.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So I mean they're still they're not out of the
- 5:54playoffs at all. No, they have a I think a
- 5:57fantastic defense now. Their offensive line, as if you watch
- 6:01the London game, does need some work because Rogers was
- 6:04taking a lot of shots in that one and I'm
- 6:06not so sure about that. Daniel Hackett, as the offensive coordinator.
- 6:10But if you're looking at the way things stand in
- 6:12the AFC, even in the NFC, you know, with the
- 6:15extra playoff spot, seven teams total, Jets only what a
- 6:20game back from Buffalo, who has now lost two in
- 6:23a row.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So yeah, let me get your thoughts on this, Okay,
- 6:27if we were to go just just you know, like
- 6:29I said, not quite a third of the wait in
- 6:31the season five games. But if we were to look
- 6:33at this right now, Kansas City's five and zero, we
- 6:36think they're going to win the West, right Okay, Houston's
- 6:39four and one. I think that's the weakest division in
- 6:42the AFC. I think the Texans are going to win
- 6:43the South, that the North is going to be a
- 6:47dog fight. The Ravens and Steelers are both three and two. Now,
- 6:50the Browns and Megals both won and four, but whoever
- 6:52doesn't win is probably going to get in as a
- 6:54wild card. And then you got, like you said, Buffalo's
- 6:56three and two. The Jets and Dolphins are both two
- 6:59and three. Broncos are the surprise of the AFC, don't
- 7:02you think?
- 7:02Speaker 2: Oh I'm sure?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, So who has a better shot at making
- 7:07the playoffs? Right now?
- 7:08Speaker 2: The Broncos are the Jets. I would lean with the
- 7:12Jets over the Broncos just because it's only been a
- 7:16month of bo Knicks and Denver. If you're gonna tell
- 7:21me I'm riding with Knicks to Rogers, I'm gonna ride
- 7:23with Aaron Rodgers down the stretch and looks like Denver.
- 7:27You got the Chargers twice. Still on the schedule, they
- 7:30have the Bengals, they have the Chiefs twice, they have
- 7:33the Ravens once. It's pretty tough there Indianapolis as well
- 7:39Falcons on that schedule. I would think that Jets just
- 7:43because the last two weeks, you know, I'm not totally
- 7:46sour on them. They had the London trip. You got
- 7:49Rogers forty years old. That can't be an easy trip.
- 7:52That the field did not look like it was great
- 7:55playing conditions as well, and then you know the Denver game,
- 7:58awful weather. Can this be a catalyst for the Jets
- 8:03turning the season around? Like, I wouldn't be surprised if
- 8:05Rogers by the end of November, we're kind of back
- 8:08to Oh, Rogers is back to being Rogers instead of
- 8:11is he washed? All right?
- 8:12Speaker 1: It's still a devil's advocate here. Look at the Jets schedule.
- 8:16They have the Bills twice, they have to go to Arizona,
- 8:20They have the Seahawks at home, they have the Texans
- 8:24at home, they have to go to Pittsburgh. Those are
- 8:28the most difficult games. And remember the Broncos hold a
- 8:31tiebreaker on the Jets because they beat him had the head.
- 8:35So I think it'll probably come down to the final
- 8:39weeks between those two maybe vying for that final, that
- 8:42seventh playoff position, and two.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Of them may come back, and it's Miami. Miami just
- 8:47wraps off five or six straight wins and it's a
- 8:50misplayoffs with the Jets, and we had to the offseason
- 8:53wondering what's next for Aaron Rodgers.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It could be all right. We'll be back to wrap
- 8:58up today's show on Sports Radio. I'm thirteen under the Zone.
