- 0:07The Philadelphia Athletics faced the Chicago White Sox for a Tuesday afternoon game at
- 0:11Comiskey Park on July 28, 1936.
- 0:16Philadelphia had been a strong team in the early 1930s, winning two championships that
- 0:20included three straight hundred-win seasons and trips to the World Series.
- 0:24But the franchise decided to liquidate their talent at the end of 1932, dealing future
- 0:29Hall of Famers Al Simmons, Lefty Grove, Mickey Cochran, and the legendary Jimmy Fox all for
- 0:35cash over the next three seasons.
- 0:37The team then plummeted and lost 90 or more games in each of the next nine seasons.
- 0:43They were led by Connie Mack in his 36th season as manager, president, and owner of the athletics.
- 0:49He would go on to manage for another 17 seasons.
- 0:52The White Sox were also a struggling team, having never finished over 500 nearly a decade.
- 0:57They were managed by Jimmy Dykes, who was also the team's starting third baseman.
- 1:01This audio recording is from the Chicago Radio broadcast, featuring announcer Hal Totten.
- 1:07It winds up to show the first one, and Hayes takes it for a fall, admits that inside corner,
- 1:12a little bit, seemed to be all set down pretty low.
- 1:15So it's one ball called on Hayes, White Sox leading the athletics, two to nothing in the first inning.
- 1:20Throughout two runs home and Bonneuron third base, Jackie Trinkvaneck, the fall effect,
- 1:25into the stands to the right of the plate, and it's one and one.
- 1:29Oh, Hayes, and, oh, oh, oh, Hayes, no prior twin, raised back to the stand,
- 1:33and see whether that ball could be caught or not.
- 1:35When it wasn't, when pulled the ball out of his pocket, he threw it back to the pitcher only.
- 1:40He didn't throw it to the pitcher.
- 1:41He threw it about eight feet to his right, so the pitcher's left, and no prior McGowan had to
- 1:47peel it out there and throw it back to Doyle.
- 1:50I hope that's the wind up. Pitch is, Jackie hit the line, smashed down the third base line,
- 1:55and it's fall, but it just missed Bonneuron's ear.
- 1:58Man, that ball really went down there and hit the end of the canvas,
- 2:01bonded halfway back to the empty.
- 2:03The ball was hit like a shot down the third base line,
- 2:06and the ball had ducked it and it landed, fall, about 30 feet down past third base.
- 2:12One and two, one ball and two strikes.
- 2:15Again, winding up, throw, Jackie falls, another one back,
- 2:22hits the front of the second back bound, high in the air,
- 2:25lands back out, out of the net and down into the field,
- 2:28hits still one ball and two strikes on Hayes.
- 2:31Bonneuron third base, two rounds home in the first inning for the white star,
- 2:35and the score two to nothing in their favor.
- 2:38The ball again starts to wind up, throws and it's a high one wide for a ball,
- 2:45making it two and two, two balls and two strikes on Hayes.
- 2:55Two and two is the count.
- 2:57It throws again and Jackie swings and hits a high fast ball inside
- 3:00and strike out for the third out in the loud top of the first inning.
- 3:04So it's two rounds, three hits, one man left on base, in the last out of the first inning
- 3:09for the white star, and the score is two to nothing in favor of the white star
- 3:14at the end of the first in.
- 3:25Here's a tip for keeping your car in condition,
- 3:28if you haven't changed the motor all recently, do it now.
- 3:31Change to the new technical motor R.
- 3:34New technical motor R retains its lubricating qualities for this heat
- 3:39and keeps every bearing surface protected with an unbroken film of efficient lubrication
- 3:44every mile you drive.
- 3:48Bob Johnson, the Philadelphia second baseman who we told you yesterday,
- 3:54we had never seen him do anything to play the outfield,
- 3:56but he's been playing second base for several weeks.
- 3:59He's up there to play now, and up he's dangerous, right-handed hit it.
- 4:03Now on each hand, there's a plate waiting as he's been kept in sight,
- 4:07starts to blind up, throws, and the hitter takes it inside across the way for ball one.
- 4:13One ball falls.
- 4:19He's been blinded up again, he pitches and hitters, swings and falls,
- 4:22the ball on the ground goes back to stand,
- 4:24I think it hit up by a queen and was put on the way back, but...
- 4:27He won't rubber anything, but he was walking around there rather to try it for a minute
- 4:32to show him that he got me.
- 4:34And it's one and one, one ball and one strike on Johnson.
- 4:44Here comes the next one inside for ball two,
- 4:46and the count is two balls and one strike on Johnson.
- 4:49One and one to count.
- 4:58One and one, the controls once more, and Johnson swings in a high-flash,
- 5:02coming down, falls back to first base, and there's under it,
- 5:05and has it for the first out of the second inning.
- 5:11One out of the second inning for the athletic,
- 5:13and Frank Higgins is third baseman,
- 5:17Higgins another right-handed hitter, and a dangerous one,
- 5:20is up there to swing.
- 5:32Higgins swings, hitter pops wide, and this time,
- 5:34Pryad is coming in under it in the infield,
- 5:36but he decides that Blair is pretty bad and calls the stool,
- 5:39becomes out and makes the catch for the second out.
- 5:42You know, even though the sun for the moment isn't out brightly,
- 5:45and you once look up in that cloud-covered sky,
- 5:49with the right toward where the sun is,
- 5:51it makes a terrific glare that's almost covered
- 5:53and looking right into clear sunlight,
- 5:55and with Pryad having to stare up into that,
- 5:57and stool coming up in the play, he called to Luke,
- 5:59and he made the play.
- 6:00And now, Frank Higgins, a bad hitter,
- 6:02and a terrific smash way up to deep right center,
- 6:04and Feevitch goes way back in front of the scoreboard
- 6:06to make the catch for the third out,
- 6:09handing the first half of the second inning with no run,
- 6:12and no hit.
- 6:18The score remains two to nothing in favor of the White Dot,
- 6:20White Dot coming to bat in the last half of the second inning,
- 6:23with Tony Pryad up there at the plate.
- 6:53Pryad is standing at the plate waiting, as I mentioned earlier,
- 6:59Jimmy Dyke, who is regularly the third baseman,
- 7:01and the manager of the stock,
- 7:03is coaching a third base bat,
- 7:04and he's taking a day off, maybe a day or two off.
- 7:07After all, he has a good ball player there,
- 7:09and a efficient one,
- 7:10and a fellow who should by now be out of the slump
- 7:13that had him bothered earlier in the year,
- 7:15and after he started breaking out,
- 7:17Tony slumped, and they took him out of there,
- 7:19and Jackie Hayes can go into the great center,
- 7:21and he couldn't get Tony back in.
- 7:23Having a ball player like that, that is no reason why
- 7:25men like Jimmy Dyke who's been playing ball for more years,
- 7:29and most of us have been watching it,
- 7:31should stay in there every day when our days rest in there,
- 7:33we'll make a new man out of it,
- 7:35so that's what he's doing today.
- 7:37Here's Hayes up there, but he winds up strong,
- 7:39and it's a curve ball, he's gone and low,
- 7:41with ball one, one ball called.
- 7:45What do I say?
- 7:46If I got Hayes up there, Andy,
- 7:48well, couldn't you check up on me, will you?
- 7:50It's fire, isn't it? You keep up today, okay?
- 7:53One ball called, and fire Tony hits the next one,
- 7:55a beauty out the left center,
- 7:56the shortstop leaps in the air almost,
- 7:58makes a great catch, but he just loads the ball up,
- 8:00and it drops out into the center field,
- 8:02bounds out there for a base hit.
- 8:04Man, that fellow Newsom almost made himself a player
- 8:07the afternoon there with that leaping effort
- 8:09to get that line smashed, and a third,
- 8:11he managed to tag it, and it went out into the center field
- 8:14on the bounce, so our fire is on first base,
- 8:17the rest of a base hit, down first base,
- 8:20nobody else is second inning, and Luke's throw,
- 8:22White Talk catches the bat,
- 8:24which it throws, and Luke swings the follow ball back,
- 8:26and the net back of the plate for strike one.
- 8:29One strike on two-oh.
- 8:40He's out there, rubbed up,
- 8:41he's all up a little bit,
- 8:42drives his hands on his trousers,
- 8:44then swings around, ready to pitch the next one to Luke,
- 8:46strike at the runner, then pitches,
- 8:49and two started a swing,
- 8:50but changes his mind to take a ball inside and low,
- 8:52and it's one ball and one strike on Luke's tour.
- 8:55One and one to count.
- 9:01One ball and one strike,
- 9:03ready again, throws,
- 9:05and the hitter swings,
- 9:06hitter drives into center field,
- 9:07going way out there,
- 9:08but the center field is backed up easily,
- 9:10makes the catch, throws the ball back
- 9:12into second base, then play out, has to go back to put.
- 9:23He took White Talk's pitcher,
- 9:25late-hugged his game,
- 9:26followed up the team,
- 9:27and bats with one out in the second base.
- 9:32Getting ready now,
- 9:35goes over to man's first base,
- 9:37then pitches in, it's a wide one across the knee
- 9:39for ball one.
- 9:41One ball calls.
- 9:54Go up, throws again,
- 9:55and deep-ditch swings, hitter follows,
- 9:56going into the center field,
- 9:57the right of the base,
- 9:58catch is coming back very fast,
- 9:59but it's back out of his reach,
- 10:00and so it's one and one.
- 10:02One ball and one strike on deep-ditch.
- 10:14One and one is a count.
- 10:22And here's the next pitch,
- 10:24ball is set.
- 10:26Look at the runner,
- 10:27pitches him, hitter hits the ball
- 10:28right down to third base one,
- 10:29he grabs forward and hits him in the foot,
- 10:31he recovers it again,
- 10:32and throws the first down,
- 10:33the ball gets there just,
- 10:34and I land after deep-ditch,
- 10:36foot hits the bag,
- 10:37and both runners are safe.
- 10:38Runners on first and second,
- 10:40each acrylic went down that line
- 10:42for a picture that time,
- 10:43and lost no time doing.
- 10:45The runners are on first and second,
- 10:47with one out in the second inning,
- 10:49and the next man up there is
- 10:50the Brad Pitt,
- 10:51lead out man,
- 10:52and let the list dog,
- 10:53you little left-handed hitter.
- 10:55That play is charged as an error
- 10:57for Higgins,
- 10:58and the first pitch to Brad Pitt
- 11:00is a fast strike over the inside corner
- 11:02about shoulder-high.
- 11:11This is ready out there again,
- 11:13takes another look,
- 11:14targets the runner, second,
- 11:15and pitches,
- 11:16and Radcliffe swings in a high client,
- 11:18it's been a field,
- 11:19but Moses charged a little bit
- 11:20to his right, he's waiting,
- 11:21comes in a little, has it,
- 11:22and throws hard to third base
- 11:23to hold the runner at second,
- 11:25so Newsom cuts it off,
- 11:27and it's two out in the second inning.
- 11:31Two out in the second inning
- 11:32for the white dog,
- 11:33they have runners on first and second,
- 11:35and Larry Rosenclaw is a fast.
- 11:37Rosenclaw up there to play.
- 11:52Oil is ready, throws,
- 11:53Larry swings and follows the ball back
- 11:55to the screen for strike one.
- 11:57One strike is a count.
- 12:08One strike,
- 12:09but you're ready out there again,
- 12:11he's a heavy sign,
- 12:13throws, and it's a wide one across
- 12:15the way for ball one,
- 12:16and the count is one ball and one strike,
- 12:18one one on Rosenclaw.
- 12:29One and one to count,
- 12:30but you're ready again,
- 12:31watch the second, throws,
- 12:33and it falls to the right and outside,
- 12:36and this time the catcher
- 12:37walks out in front of the plate,
- 12:39calls encouragement to count,
- 12:40throws the ball back to him,
- 12:44claps into the glove a couple of times
- 12:45while he looks around the outfield,
- 12:46he's playing fairly even for Rosenclaw both,
- 12:49right and left field,
- 12:50he looks pretty well in from the line
- 12:51and not taking that line very much,
- 12:53saying more out of the center field,
- 12:56but the second baseman is playing pretty deep,
- 12:59and Larry jumps back to take the third pitch in,
- 13:01the third ball, he's got a low,
- 13:03and it's a three and one,
- 13:04three balls and one strike on Larry.
- 13:10Rosenclaw might possibly go after this
- 13:12three and one ball,
- 13:14this is ready,
- 13:17throws, and it's wide across the way
- 13:19for ball four,
- 13:20he couldn't go after with a ball that far away,
- 13:22and it gives him a base on ball
- 13:24with stills of baseman for the white shot,
- 13:26hit second inning,
- 13:28stills of baseman with two outs,
- 13:30and Mike Pivich, the white shot right field,
- 13:34is up there at the plate,
- 13:35Pivich is that,
- 13:36and he's got a low,
- 13:43he winds up to take the first one to Mike,
- 13:45throws, and he takes it inside
- 13:47across the way for ball one,
- 13:49one ball called,
- 13:56he stands there watching the plate again,
- 13:58finally starts his wind up,
- 14:01swinging wind up to use it,
- 14:02Pitches and Mike get the boundary,
- 14:04and the third base and grabs the ball,
- 14:06throws the second,
- 14:07and Rosenclaw is forced out in a play
- 14:09from Higgins to Johnson for the third out,
- 14:12ending that inning,
- 14:13and ending that serious threat with no dam.
- 14:16And so it's no runs,
- 14:18one hit, one error,
- 14:20and three men left on base
- 14:22in the last half of the second inning,
- 14:25the score remaining two to nothing
- 14:27in favor of the white shot
- 14:28at the end of the second inning.
- 14:30I'm very pleased to hear from so many fans
- 14:32who discovered that there had been a little delay
- 14:35in their getting of the new 1936
- 14:38Texaco score.
- 14:40You know this book is really quite an item,
- 14:42and I've noticed many of the baseball writers
- 14:44examining it,
- 14:45and told them even using them,
- 14:48because they're just the same as the official books,
- 14:50except the summary sheet is a little more complete.
- 14:53But in the book, the size,
- 14:54space for 17 full games,
- 14:56the regular official blanks,
- 14:57such as we've used for many years,
- 14:59and the complete scoring system,
- 15:02with illustrations and pictures of the Cubs
- 15:04and the white shots, the rosters, the schedules,
- 15:06and it's so simple to receive,
- 15:07just stop in at any Texaco station,
- 15:09have full request card,
- 15:11fill it in with your name and address,
- 15:13it's already addressed to me on the other side,
- 15:15the one-cent stamp on it,
- 15:16and mail it, and you'll get that card.
- 15:18As I said, those two have been a little delay
- 15:20in receiving the book,
- 15:22that's been letting me know about it,
- 15:23and we'll see if they get the book right away,
- 15:25you may have sent your card,
- 15:26and there's been some delay,
- 15:27so don't forget to let me know.
- 15:29Now, Newsom and Strat take the first pitch
- 15:31high and wide for ball one,
- 15:33and Dietrich throws the next one
- 15:34over the outside corner of our wayside
- 15:36for a strike.
- 15:37So, it's one ball and one strike on Newsom,
- 15:40or right-handed hitter,
- 15:41there's the next ball with their ball outside,
- 15:43and it's two and one.
- 15:45Two balls and one strike on Whitey Newsom,
- 15:48Lamar Newsom.
- 15:52Dietrich throws it down to hitters,
- 15:53swings it a high,
- 15:54quiet, a short left center,
- 15:55Brad Clifford is jogging over these leaves,
- 15:57waiting for the ball now, has it,
- 15:59and it's one out in the third inning
- 16:01for the outside.
- 16:05One out in the third inning with Carl Doyle's pitcher.
- 16:07Now, it's coming up to the plate.
- 16:19Far to get there,
- 16:20he bats right-handed as he pitches,
- 16:21he infills, plays the ball even,
- 16:23Halfield pulls in a little,
- 16:25and the first pitch is a strike over the
- 16:27part of the plate, a little above the knees.
- 16:29Rosenclaw has moved a little bit toward right-centered,
- 16:31figuring, oh, I'll have to hit him to right,
- 16:34and there's strike two,
- 16:35another fast ball down the middle,
- 16:37a little above the knees,
- 16:38and it's two strikes on Doyle.
- 16:40Two strikes to count,
- 16:43and the pitcher throws in it to high one inside
- 16:45for ball one,
- 16:46and make it one ball and two strikes on Doyle.
- 16:49One and two.
- 16:55Hitter swings again,
- 16:56and this is the fast ball striking out
- 16:58for the second out in the third inning,
- 17:01and makes a two out of the third inning for the eighth,
- 17:03and Luke Finney, the lead-out man,
- 17:05once more of the best.
- 17:07Luke got himself five-hits
- 17:09and six times the bat yesterday,
- 17:12rather a busy afternoon.
- 17:14One, throws and Hitter swings,
- 17:17hit one, the right-back at Haze,
- 17:19it comes up with it on the half,
- 17:20throws the first pitch, and it's three out.
- 17:25No runs, no hits in the third inning,
- 17:28for the athletic,
- 17:29and the score remains good or nothing,
- 17:31in favor of the white start,
- 17:32starts going the ball in the last half.
- 17:34Out the third inning,
- 17:35with the sixth manura,
- 17:37who tripled to drive in the second run
- 17:39in the first inning,
- 17:40in the first manner,
- 17:41as broadcast of the white start Philadelphia game,
- 17:43comes to you directing the Minsky pot,
- 17:45home of the white start to Chicago,
- 17:47has a presentation of your neighborhood,
- 17:49the Texaco data,
- 17:50distributed to the Texaco Fire Chiefs,
- 17:52Gasly.
- 17:58The broadcast comes with a permission,
- 18:00out of the white start from the athletics,
- 18:02to stimulate Hitter to now a national game,
- 18:04and in your own local baseball team.
- 18:07It's a WCFL at Chicago.
- 18:09So I was arrived down the mound,
- 18:11started his warm-up,
- 18:12and downstairs,
- 18:13sitting on the bench today,
- 18:14was a judge bench,
- 18:15and looked around,
- 18:16and discovered a fellow that,
- 18:17well, it wasn't so very long ago,
- 18:19we were talking about him from up here.
- 18:21He was up here alongside of us now,
- 18:23that former member of the strike,
- 18:25and Boston club in the American League, Bill Ake,
- 18:27is still, how do you like baseball,
- 18:29from up in this direction?
- 18:30It's a little high up,
- 18:31I'd rather be down on the field
- 18:33with the rest of the boys.
- 18:34Well, I'm hoping to take you for that.
- 18:36How do you like this way of running,
- 18:38how do you like this way of playing baseball?
- 18:40Sitting and talking for two hours an afternoon.
- 18:42I could only like extended,
- 18:44I got too nervous to do it.
- 18:47Well, you've done pretty well so far,
- 18:49you haven't knocked any chairs or anything over there.
- 18:51Hope you long, right?
- 18:56Benoit is up there now,
- 18:58he starts to wind up,
- 19:00and draws and sees clean-fax,
- 19:02to take a high-pass ball inside for ball one.
- 19:05One ball called.
- 19:10So, it leans over to get to the side,
- 19:12starts to wind up again.
- 19:16And pitches and seek take ball two,
- 19:18a fast one inside across the way.
- 19:20So, it's two and nothing,
- 19:21two balls and no strike,
- 19:23and the Nura.
- 19:27One nothing of the count,
- 19:29it's already again,
- 19:30starts to wind up once more.
- 19:32It draws and it's a fast strike over the heart of the plate,
- 19:35way high, making it two and one.
- 19:37Two balls and one strike on feet.
- 19:46One one, and there's the second ball,
- 19:48third ball wide across the way,
- 19:50and it's three balls and one strike on Benoit.
- 19:53And one the count.
- 20:02And one of the pitches ready again,
- 20:04throws and the header takes four,
- 20:06four, it's over the plate for Lowell,
- 20:08and seek at the base on ball.
- 20:10So, puts the big seek on first base,
- 20:12with nobody out in the third inning,
- 20:14and Luke Kauffling is up there at the plate,
- 20:16right-handed hitter,
- 20:17gets up there and taps the plate
- 20:18two or three times, the bat takes the soil,
- 20:22Raoul is getting his time to pace,
- 20:24getting ready to pitch,
- 20:26team set,
- 20:28goes for his first base,
- 20:30and throws and it's a strike over the inside corner,
- 20:32way high.
- 20:34One strike on Kauffling.
- 20:41All again, has the sign, he's ready,
- 20:43stretches, fiddles the ball,
- 20:45and finally looks back to the runner's first base,
- 20:47and pitches, and Luke's going to hit a slow pounder,
- 20:49the pitch he can't quite get to it,
- 20:51third base comes over and just juggles the ball,
- 20:53shortstop grabs it,
- 20:55for the meantime, Appling beats it out for a base hit,
- 20:57and Bono reaches second base,
- 20:59he made the turn,
- 21:01goes to third because he found third base uncovered,
- 21:03shortstop is right near the line,
- 21:05so he's whirling with a plop,
- 21:07he's taking second base,
- 21:09and it's an infield scratch hit,
- 21:11for Appling,
- 21:13looks just as big as those batten averages for it,
- 21:17and it puts the right-touch runners on
- 21:19first and second, with nobody out in the third inning,
- 21:21and Jackie Hayes,
- 21:23mid-Hayes, the right-touch,
- 21:25second baseman is up there at the plate,
- 21:29and his active joy was going to bump,
- 21:31the pitch came up inside,
- 21:33slowly steps back to let it go by for ball one,
- 21:35one ball called,
- 21:43once again, a pitch that swings around,
- 21:45looks back over his shoulder,
- 21:47and throws, and it's a ball two,
- 21:49it missed the outside corner,
- 21:51down around the knee,
- 21:53infield are all played for the first base,
- 21:55when charging in,
- 21:57second base, they're going over to cover first,
- 21:59shortstop dashing over to second,
- 22:01third base, when holding back as far as he dares,
- 22:03Steve, he can't make a play at third base,
- 22:05he throws again,
- 22:07and Jackie gets a wide one across the way
- 22:09for ball three,
- 22:11and it's a three on nothing on Hayes,
- 22:13Frank Hayes, the catcher,
- 22:15walks out in front of the plate,
- 22:17calls the pitch, throws the ball back to him,
- 22:19the ball stands there, rubbing the ball up,
- 22:21standing with his back to the plate,
- 22:23on his turns around,
- 22:25steps out of the slab,
- 22:29and there's the stretch, getting ready to pitch the next one,
- 22:31Hayes, he throws,
- 22:33and it's ball four,
- 22:35and Ryan inside,
- 22:37mid-to-get-the-base-down ball,
- 22:39the starts have the bases full in the third inning,
- 22:41with nobody out,
- 22:43nobody out, bases full,
- 22:45white starts already leading, two to nothing,
- 22:47and Tony Pryor is back
- 22:49in the third inning.
- 22:53Soil has got himself in a second trouble out here,
- 22:58Pryor up there now, right-handed hit it also,
- 23:01and with his right foot way in the inside rear
- 23:03corner of the batter's box,
- 23:05partially faking the pitcher,
- 23:07the first one to bounce the ball down the third baseline,
- 23:09Jimmy Dyke's field, it looks it over,
- 23:11pretty carefully, runs it up a little,
- 23:13then tosses it out,
- 23:15through the pitcher, and Doyle takes it,
- 23:17adjusts his cap, grabs the ball,
- 23:19looks the plate for the sign of pitch again,
- 23:21Pryor is all set there,
- 23:23Doyle starts that easy swinging wind-up,
- 23:29pitches, and oh, Tony had to sit on
- 23:31under that one, and with some far inside,
- 23:33and it made it ball one,
- 23:35and the count is one ball and one strike on fire,
- 23:38one and one,
- 23:43ready again, starts the wind-up throws,
- 23:45and Tony takes the second ball,
- 23:47Doyle's set again to swing,
- 23:49but the ball came down there by the knee inside,
- 23:51and it's two balls and one strike on hay.
- 23:55Or rather, on fire, like he's insisting
- 23:57on getting hay up there at that next time, don't worry.
- 23:59Wind-one to count, two balls and one strike,
- 24:04Tony started to swing at the next one,
- 24:06stopped the ball, hit the bat,
- 24:08and bounded down to the first baseman,
- 24:10who grabbed it through to the plate,
- 24:12getting Pryor to easily,
- 24:14or rather getting the man at the plate easily,
- 24:16and threw back to first, the Pryor got down there.
- 24:18Pryor tried to pull away from that ball,
- 24:22but he got his bat around just far enough
- 24:24so the ball met it, and bounded easily down,
- 24:26to deem the first baseman, and he threw the catch
- 24:29at the plate, forcing Belora for the first out of the inning.
- 24:41Base there still full with one out,
- 24:43and Luke Sewell hit the first pitch,
- 24:45a long drive up, deep left cheddar,
- 24:47going way out there to the scoreboard.
- 24:49One run is coming across the first plate,
- 24:51another one, hand flat,
- 24:53it's around third base racing for the plate, score standing up,
- 24:56a long double to the scoreboard in deep left center,
- 25:00by Luke Sewell scores all three runs,
- 25:03and gives the White Sox now a five to nothing lead.
- 25:08That ball was really hip too,
- 25:10but I mean he got that ball right around on that ball,
- 25:12and drove it out into left center,
- 25:14there was no question about where it was going from the moment it started.
- 25:17It was right out between the left fielder and center fielder,
- 25:20neither man had a chance to make a play on it.
- 25:24A regular parade of thoughts,
- 25:26runners across that plate,
- 25:28here's Dietrich the pitcher's bat,
- 25:32throws in, he swings it a boundary,
- 25:34just past the pitcher, shortstop,
- 25:36comes in fast, grabs the ball,
- 25:38realized he can't get Dietrich,
- 25:40holds it, hoping to get Sewell rounding third,
- 25:42Sewell stops very ahead of time in the plate,
- 25:45and runners are on first and third,
- 25:47still only one out, three runs already home,
- 25:50and that's an infield stretch yet for the pitcher Dietrich.
- 25:54Now he's been on base both times, he's been up there,
- 25:57he really goes down that line on his way to first base,
- 26:00he doesn't waste any time.
- 26:04Now Ratcliffe up there,
- 26:06takes the crack at the first pitch,
- 26:08hit a little looping foul down back at third base,
- 26:10third base, and bashing over there with his back,
- 26:12and the boxy, it's one of the fans there,
- 26:14passes it, and it's one strike on Ratcliffe.
- 26:21Right-stop runners on first and third,
- 26:27one out, three runs already home in the third inning,
- 26:30and Ratcliffe at bat.
- 26:39Here it is, the next one, a long high fly to deep center field,
- 26:42steals it back there to get it,
- 26:44makes the catch and soles jogging home after the catch
- 26:47with Dietrich starting back to first base.
- 26:49Long drive, deep center field,
- 26:51by Ratcliffe for the second out,
- 26:55and scores soles after the catch with the fourth run of the inning
- 26:59and takes the first pitch wide across the way from ball one.
- 27:13One ball called.
- 27:15There's the next one for ball two inside,
- 27:18and blowing the count is two and nothing.
- 27:20Two balls and no strike on Rogenthal.
- 27:31The oil swings around again, ready to throw.
- 27:33The win goes to the second out.
- 27:36The ball goes to the third base.
- 27:38The ball goes to the third base.
- 27:40The ball goes to the third base.
- 27:42The oil swings around again, ready to throw.
- 27:45The watch is the runner's first with pitches,
- 27:47and Larry gets the first strike of beauty over the heart of the plate
- 27:50about way high, and it's two and one,
- 27:53two balls and one strike on Rogenthal.
- 28:03Here comes the third ball wide,
- 28:05and Larry has the count of three and one,
- 28:07three balls and one strike on Rogenthal.
- 28:14Hi, Ernie. Glad to see you.
- 28:16Not glad to see you, Ernie.
- 28:20Three and one, and there's ball four wide across the chest,
- 28:23and it's a base on balls for Rogenthal,
- 28:25his second walk in three innings,
- 28:28first inning he singles,
- 28:29walk in the second, walk in the third,
- 28:31moves deeply to second base,
- 28:33and the white dog-tip runner is on first and second,
- 28:37two out, four runs already home in the third inning,
- 28:41four now, six to nothing in favor of the stock,
- 28:44and Steven just back-takes the first pitch,
- 28:47nine and inside for ball one.
- 28:54One ball called, but he walks out there in front of the
- 28:59plate, return the ball to the pitcher,
- 29:01new one, he rubs it up a little bit,
- 29:03finally steps on to the slab, watches for his time,
- 29:05gets it, swings around,
- 29:07he's a pitching position,
- 29:09strikes, looks back at the runner,
- 29:11second pitches, and it's a strike over the
- 29:13heart of the plate down around the knees,
- 29:15to make it one ball and one strike on Steven.
- 29:18One and one is the count.
- 29:25Goes again, and Mike Legault sets for that one,
- 29:27but step back, stopped his swing,
- 29:29and the ball came over the heart of the plate down
- 29:31around the knees, so it's one and two.
- 29:33One ball and two strikes on little Mike.
- 29:40One and two to count.
- 29:44Goes again, and Peter swings it,
- 29:46a foul down the right field line, back onto the roof of the stand,
- 29:49and it's still one ball and two strikes on Peter.
- 29:52One and two.
- 30:05Watching the second base throw together,
- 30:07and there's a ball inside his low to make it ball to,
- 30:10and it's two balls and two strikes on Mike.
- 30:13Well, he's having much luck out there,
- 30:16he's fast when he throws the fast one,
- 30:18but he usually, he's usually mostly a slow turn
- 30:20and he's changing the pace.
- 30:23He throws this one pretty fast, but it's blind wide.
- 30:25The ball's free.
- 30:27It cuts loose, the control isn't there, so he has trouble.
- 30:30So it's three balls and two strikes.
- 30:32Three and two on Peter.
- 30:42Three and two.
- 30:44He throws again, and the header swings,
- 30:46and tips the ball, followed the ground back in the plate,
- 30:48the runners were on the go with the pitch.
- 30:51Three and three and two, count with two out.
- 30:54So they have to jog back their bases,
- 30:56that is one of them is running back,
- 30:58Rosenclaw, but deeply controlling back the second.
- 31:00Three balls and two strikes on Peter.
- 31:08The ball throws again, the runners start,
- 31:10but it's ball four wide, and again,
- 31:12the white guard has the bases full.
- 31:14It moves Rosenclaw to the second base,
- 31:16and deep into third,
- 31:18and the bases are full again,
- 31:20in the third inning,
- 31:22and Zeke Manora will open the inning with a walk,
- 31:25but was forced to the plate for the first out,
- 31:28after the bases have been filled for the first time,
- 31:31they'll back up there at the plate.
- 31:33Zeke Manora is back, bases full,
- 31:35two out, four runs already home in the third inning,
- 31:38and Zeke jumps back to take it inside and low for ball one.
- 31:41One ball call.
- 31:54The ball goes through, it's wind up,
- 31:56pitches again, and it's a good strike.
- 31:58Fast ball over the outside corner,
- 32:00waist high, Zeke was all set to swing,
- 32:02stopped and looked at the plate,
- 32:04looked back at the umpire, looked at the plate again,
- 32:06but it's one and one, one ball and one strike.
- 32:09And Manora,
- 32:15draws once more, Zeke swings in,
- 32:17a little pop, wow, and short third base,
- 32:19the third base will come again,
- 32:21and makes the catch for the third out.
- 32:23Manora pops the Higgins,
- 32:25and it's three out in the fourth inning,
- 32:27or the third inning for the White Sox,
- 32:29I've run over into the fourth inning column,
- 32:31and the scoreboard here to get that second time,
- 32:34it's out in there.
- 32:36So in the third inning, the White Sox had four runs,
- 32:39or one, two, three hits.
- 32:44Yes, there are only three hits in that rally,
- 32:47and three men left on base,
- 32:49it was mostly Wilderness on the tomorrow's part
- 32:51that caused this trouble,
- 32:53and the score at the end of the third inning,
- 32:55the White Sox are leading the athletics by a score of six to nothing.
- 32:58Now for up to a minute's scores and complete batteries from other cities,
- 33:01we return to the studio.
- 33:03In the National League, in Philadelphia,
- 33:05the Chicago Cubs leave the Phillies
- 33:07at the end of the first half of the seventh inning,
- 33:09three to one, Henshaw and Hartnett working for the Cubs,
- 33:11the field's using Passau and Adwood.
- 33:13In Brooklyn, the Pittsburgh Pirates
- 33:15leave the Dodgers at the end of the first half
- 33:17of the fifth inning by a score of eight to two.
- 33:19Verkhoff and Patton working for the Pirates,
- 33:21the Dodgers starting Baker and Berries
- 33:23with Butcher pitching in the third.
- 33:25First game of the double header in New York was taken by the Giants
- 33:27from the Cincinnati Reds five to one.
- 33:29In the second game at the end of the third inning,
- 33:31the Giants leave the Reds four to one.
- 33:33In the second game batteries, the Reds,
- 33:35Shot and Lombardi for the Giants, Smith and Mancuso.
- 33:37In the American League, in Detroit,
- 33:39the Yankees are leaving the Tigers at the end of the first half
- 33:41of the second inning, eight to nothing.
- 33:43Pearson and Jorgens working for the Yankees,
- 33:45Bridges and Hayworth starting for the Tigers
- 33:47with Soarall pitching in the second.
- 33:49In Cleveland, the Indians leave the Washington Senators
- 33:51at the end of the first half of the third inning, two to nothing.
- 33:53Right-hilling Millie's working for the Senators,
- 33:55the Indians using Brown and Fitlack.
- 33:57And now back to the Michigan Park and Haltauson.
- 33:59Take it out.
- 34:01Ready to go in the next inning.
- 34:03The fourth, the first man at Bad Moses
- 34:05hits the first ball pitch for a pop-fly
- 34:07into the infield, and clients came clear-closed
- 34:09past the pitchers mound
- 34:11to make the catch on the first-base side
- 34:13of the pitchers box for the first out.
- 34:23One out of the fourth,
- 34:25the first pitch wide and low for ball one.
- 34:31One ball call, but it throws again,
- 34:33and it's ball two inside
- 34:35across the way, making it two to nothing,
- 34:37two balls and no strike on D.
- 34:47There's a strike over the inside corner way tie.
- 34:49So it's two and one, two balls and one strike.
- 34:57On D.
- 34:59Or now comes strike two,
- 35:01and it's over the inside corner knee-high
- 35:03to make it two balls and two strikes on Chuck.
- 35:05Two and two.
- 35:07He's picked it over again,
- 35:09he swings it the ball hard out into center field,
- 35:11for a base hit the first set of the afternoon
- 35:13off D.
- 35:15And it's the second time he's reached base.
- 35:17He walked once and got a base hit this time,
- 35:19and the only man on the club that has been on base,
- 35:21the dean is on first base,
- 35:23one out of the fourth inning,
- 35:25and fortunately, the right fielder is a best.
- 35:37And the first pitch is a fast ball
- 35:39across the way, but wide for ball one.
- 35:41One ball call,
- 35:43and it's ball three.
- 35:45One ball call.
- 35:51And hitters swing to the next one,
- 35:53hit it into left field for another base hit.
- 35:55Well, that's base hit, seemed to break the charm.
- 35:57He drove it into left field for a single,
- 35:59and it's moved the dean to second base.
- 36:01So the A's, their runners on first and second,
- 36:03one out of the fourth inning,
- 36:05and Bob Johnson, the second baseman,
- 36:07is a best.
- 36:19He drove the first one for a strike
- 36:21over the outside corner of Alton E. High.
- 36:23One strike on Johnson.
- 36:31He swings, hit the next one into right field
- 36:33for still another base hit.
- 36:35The second is coming around, third on the way in,
- 36:37and Payne throws the ball to the plate,
- 36:39and the runner is started calling out,
- 36:41and then the umpire,
- 36:43that is, he had it ahead of the air,
- 36:45and suddenly spread his hands to indicate safe.
- 36:47Early at first, he thought,
- 36:49still had him blocked off,
- 36:51but then he discovered that his foot had come over the plate,
- 36:53and when the dust cleared,
- 36:55and he saw his foot on the plate,
- 36:57realized that it had been there,
- 36:59because when the ball hit him, and he called him safe.
- 37:01He had the courage of his conviction,
- 37:03and the umpire may call play a little bit fast.
- 37:06This time, the umpire,
- 37:07Quinn had the arm part of the way up to call him out,
- 37:09when the dust cleared, he saw he had made it,
- 37:11so he realized it and called him safe,
- 37:13as he should have, which was a good decision.
- 37:15Now the men have bet,
- 37:17Hegan takes the first pitch for a strike
- 37:19over the outside corner.
- 37:21How about Nihac?
- 37:23One strike on Stakey.
- 37:25A good throw to the plate by Davidson,
- 37:27incidentally.
- 37:29So let's help your runners on first and third,
- 37:31one off, one run home in the fourth.
- 37:33They hit the next one, a high fly out to right field,
- 37:35previous comes over, makes the catch,
- 37:37turns and makes another great throw to the plate,
- 37:39but the runner scores easily
- 37:41as the catcher runs up on the ball and blocks it,
- 37:45and the runner at first had to hold his base.
- 37:50So it's two out of the fourth inning,
- 37:52two runs home for the athletic.
- 37:57They still have jumps in on first base.
- 37:59Mike Hayes, the catcher is up there to play.
- 38:07Hayes is back, she looks at first base and pitches,
- 38:09hit her, hits a high boundary,
- 38:11going down the third base line,
- 38:13a lands fair on the second half,
- 38:15but it has a lot of ink to cut it,
- 38:17a lot of spin, and it's landed fair,
- 38:19and blocks all the way to the right angle
- 38:21to go foul, and it's strike one on Hayes.
- 38:23The ball was hit so high,
- 38:25both runners would have been able to
- 38:27advance on the ball even though it stayed fair,
- 38:31and would steal it.
- 38:35Hayes gets back to play for the count of one,
- 38:37strike on him, two out of two runs home
- 38:39in the fourth inning for the athletic,
- 38:41scored now six to two in favor of the light dot,
- 38:43John from still on first base.
- 38:45He gets the sign, swings around,
- 38:47he's ready to pitch,
- 38:51throws and the header takes a wide run low for ball one,
- 38:53throws one ball and one strike on me.
- 38:56One and one.
- 39:03Nice swing, again to hit a high,
- 39:05fly down the right field line,
- 39:07and it's just jogging over across the line,
- 39:09and makes the catch down there and foul territory,
- 39:11and it's out of the stand for the third out.
- 39:20So it's two runs, three hits,
- 39:22one man left on base,
- 39:24first half of the fourth inning,
- 39:28scored a six to two in favor of the light dot,
- 39:31light dot's cutting the bat on the last half of the fourth,
- 39:34with Luke Appling, light dot, shortstop,
- 39:36the first man at bat.
- 39:38What are all these things they just brought in here?
- 39:40More telegrams, George.

- 40:50Mo Rice, congratulations.
- 40:52From an old kill-roaring.
- 40:54I know him.
- 40:56Well, we got some more here,
- 40:58but we'll read them in a minute, because the ball game is going on.
- 41:00And Appling, if that
- 41:02takes the first one
- 41:04for a strike over the outside corner, about knee-high.
- 41:06One strike on Luke.
- 41:08She winds up again,
- 41:10throws, and then swings the ball
- 41:12into the stands above and the right of the plate,
- 41:14or strike two.
- 41:16And then makes a two-strike on Appling.
- 41:30She throws again, and Luke will watch
- 41:32if that ball goes into the ground of his feet for ball one,
- 41:34so it's one and two.
- 41:36One ball and two strikes.
- 41:40Or winding up again,
- 41:42pitches and Luke swings it up,
- 41:44and it's a third base,
- 41:46and it bounds over his shoulder
- 41:48and goes on out in the left field.
- 41:50Luke makes a turn, but goes back
- 41:52the first pass, has the ball,
- 41:54the field is in her head, and thrown in there,
- 41:56and it's a base hit for Luke.
- 42:00It gets one after that ball rather peculiarly.
- 42:02Went out there, not seeming to know
- 42:04just how it was going to bounce
- 42:06because it was taking funny hop.
- 42:08First a long one, then a short one,
- 42:10then a medium one, and finally hit
- 42:12and took a high hop right up over his shoulder
- 42:14into left field for a sink.
- 42:16So, Jerky Hayes is at bat taking the first pitch inside
- 42:18by the knees for ball one.
- 42:22One ball called.
- 42:24Remember the white dots are leading the athletics
- 42:26by a score of 62.
- 42:28Last hop, the fourth inning.
- 42:30Appling is on first base.
- 42:32It throws now, and it's a strike
- 42:34over the outside corner knee high
- 42:36to make it one ball and one strike on knee.
- 42:38One and one to count.
- 42:50Better hit the next one,
- 42:52and drive on into left field for a good clean base hit,
- 42:54and it moves, appling to second base.
- 43:06George, I'm glad you explained that one wire.
- 43:08I saw that thread scores parlor,
- 43:10and I couldn't figure it out.
- 43:12Should have put quotation marks on it.
- 43:14That's the voice from the studio by Jackie.
- 43:16The thread parlor that does the scores
- 43:18and things down there, green hour breaks.
- 43:20I'm glad you pointed that out.
- 43:22That hit me puzzled.
- 43:24Reading them in a hurry here is trying not to miss the game.
- 43:26I almost overlooked that.
- 43:28Going on that well.
- 43:30I've got to work together, my friend.
- 43:32Well, the first pitch to play it now
- 43:34almost knocked him down and takes it for ball one.
- 43:40It's going to show scores now.
- 43:42Scores and scores, of course.
- 43:44Okay.
- 43:46One ball called for the scores again,
- 43:48and it's a strike over the outside corner waist high,
- 43:50making it one and one.
- 43:52Scores up scores and batteries.
- 43:54It's charging up a little bit.
- 43:56When and what is the count of the pitch already again?
- 43:58Oh, I pulled it.
- 44:00Tony right in the leg.
- 44:02He tried to get out of the way of it,
- 44:04but the ball kept sailing in toward him,
- 44:06finally hitting bottom of the knee,
- 44:08and he gets the first base hit by a fifth ball,
- 44:10and again, the second time in two innings,
- 44:12the white star stepped the base to score,
- 44:14but nobody out,
- 44:16and Luke Stool is a better player.
- 44:18And Luke Stool is a better.
- 44:20He stepped up there with a base to score last inning,
- 44:22and cleared him up.
- 44:24Just mocked him all up with a big double.
- 44:32No, the A's don't bother warming up the pitchers.
- 44:34I mean, one pitcher a day, you know.
- 44:40Tony's swing, I'd rather Luke's swing
- 44:42hit the first ball pitch in the results
- 44:44in the double play, second to short to first,
- 44:46but Aveling scores.
- 44:48A double play,
- 44:50and which Luke hit the ball.
- 44:52Good job, and he flipped it to Newsome,
- 44:54and Newsome over to Dean,
- 44:56complete the double play,
- 44:58scoring Aveling and moving A's to third base.
- 45:02So now it's two out for the white star
- 45:04in the fourth inning,
- 45:06and Deepvik is getting a hand as he walks up there to play.
- 45:08Two out, one run home, A's on third base.
- 45:16He starts to wind up pitchers,
- 45:18and it's a curve ball, wide and low for ball one.
- 45:20One ball called.
- 45:30A'll winding up the game throw,
- 45:32and the header swings,
- 45:34and this is a high pass ball outside for a strike.
- 45:36So it's one ball and one strike on Deepvik.
- 45:38One and one to count.
- 45:46Throw it again, and Bill swings.
- 45:48He drives it out into center field for a good clean single,
- 45:50and scores A's easily from 13.
- 45:52The single to center field by Deepvik,
- 45:54and I'm glad of one thing,
- 45:56he brought his hitting ability to the white star with him.
- 45:58He always good, hits pretty good,
- 46:00and free's up over that play.
- 46:02He doesn't look much like a hitter,
- 46:04but he takes a short, one swing at that ball,
- 46:06and he's willing to swing,
- 46:08which means he gets a lot of bases.
- 46:10I know he always did against the white star before he came here.
- 46:12Now, Rand Krippeth bets.
- 46:14He drinks the first one to hit a high fly
- 46:16in the left center, left dealer,
- 46:18and scores again on his pass,
- 46:20and makes the catch on the run out there for the third out.
- 46:24Krippeth's been up four times in four innings,
- 46:26but got only one base hit out of it,
- 46:28and that's trying to sort of make a sense
- 46:30in that fancy batting average it is.
- 46:32Started out all right, but hasn't had any luck since.
- 46:34Two runs, three hits,
- 46:36one man left on deep
- 46:38in the last half of the fourth inning,
- 46:40and the score
- 46:42remains, and now stands
- 46:447-2,
- 46:46with an 8-2,
- 46:486-7, 8-9,
- 46:507-8, 4-5, 6-7,
- 46:52and getting jittery here.
- 46:54The birthday business is getting too much.
- 46:5629 years a lot, yeah, getting old.
- 46:58It's 8-2
- 47:00at the end of the fourth inning.
- 47:09Have you been having trouble keeping
- 47:11squeaks and rattles out of your car after any spell?
- 47:14Then try Marfax's healthy lubrication.
- 47:18Marfax, please put on the bearings
- 47:20and keep the water on mother.
- 47:22It gives double the surface, but ordinary grease will, too.
- 47:25Have your car Marfax,
- 47:27and say goodbye to annoying, costly squeaks
- 47:30and rattles.
- 47:32First man left out of the fifth inning for the athletics
- 47:34is Newsom,
- 47:36Shortstop,
- 47:38and takes the first one for strike.
- 47:40The first one,
- 47:42and the second one, on time, too, Mr. Moemar.
- 47:44And this next one comes over there
- 47:46for strike two.
- 47:48He pick throws again for a high one wide
- 47:50and ball one, and make it one ball and two strikes.
- 47:52Throw it in the fourth block when that happens.
- 48:00He just swings the next hit a high fly
- 48:02to short right field.
- 48:04Right field of craving just coming in,
- 48:06but Hayes goes back and tries to cough to the ball.
- 48:08Finally realizes Mike's coming in on him,
- 48:10so he sits down.
- 48:12He stops something, sits down to get out of the way,
- 48:14and cravings comes on in to make the play.
- 48:16So it's one out in the fifth inning for the athletics,
- 48:18and Doyle,
- 48:20and the final pitchers are back.
- 48:36First pitch is a strike over the heart of the plate,
- 48:38waist high.
- 48:42One strike to count,
- 48:44which winds up again, throw in,
- 48:46and it's strike two. Boy, laid that one right down the middle.
- 48:48No use of pulling than this fella.
- 48:50He pick is really fast, and I thought he was.
- 48:52He seemed to have a lot of stuff on that ball.
- 48:54Of course, he's going to throw in just plain fastballs
- 48:56down there just this minute.
- 49:00Hayes winding up again, throws,
- 49:02Hayes swings and falls the ball back on the ground
- 49:04back of the plate, and may have Nick
- 49:06Luke-Sue's foot. He sort of staggered for a minute,
- 49:08but just reached for another ball,
- 49:10got it, threw it back out the pitcher,
- 49:12and it's two strikes.
- 49:14On Doyle still,
- 49:16he pick throws again, and Doyle swings
- 49:18and misses, striking out,
- 49:20for the second out of the fifth inning.
- 49:22It makes it two out of the fifth inning for the athletics,
- 49:24and Luke-Sue Hayes left fielder as it best.
- 49:38Swings the first one, hit it hard up to,
- 49:40with an early tie in the air,
- 49:42trying to fail that ball, and hit him in the knee,
- 49:44and found it out in the foul territory,
- 49:46was Zeke right after it.
- 49:48That ball's mounted, and Zeke went right up to the air with it,
- 49:50but it didn't come up the tie,
- 49:52and his glove hit him in the knee instead,
- 49:54and bounced over to foul territory,
- 49:56for what will probably be called a base hit,
- 49:58the ball was hit pretty hard,
- 50:02and his foot's spinning on the first date,
- 50:04with two out of the fifth inning,
- 50:06and Moses is center fielder.
- 50:08Here's up there to play, Moses at bat.
- 50:14Here he swings and fouls the ball back to the net,
- 50:16back of the plate, and it's strike one.
- 50:18Yes, it's officially called a hit now,
- 50:20finally got the relay time,
- 50:24on the old official scorer.
- 50:26One strike on Moses,
- 50:30and he swings, hit a foul fly, coming down,
- 50:32foul back of the plate,
- 50:34coming down onto the net,
- 50:36and he swings and fouls it.
- 50:58Two strikes to the count on Moses,
- 51:00and the member of Penny is on first base,
- 51:02and he hits the next one, but it's foul,
- 51:08right down the first base coaching line,
- 51:10Moses there grabs it, looks it over,
- 51:12throws it back out to Pitchett,
- 51:14as her old friend Lena Blackburn,
- 51:16who many, many years ago played with the White Sox.
- 51:20Later on with Coach, and finally manager of the club.
- 51:26He's ready again, Pitchett,
- 51:28and it's a curve ball very wide,
- 51:30one and two, that ball broke sharply away from the hit,
- 51:32one ball and two,
- 51:34foul first hit, it's broadcast,
- 51:36now the White Sox fill it up to game,
- 51:38comes to you directly from the Mischiefar,
- 51:40home of the White Sox to Chicago,
- 51:42at the presentation of your neighborhood,
- 51:44the technical dealer,
- 51:46the distributor of the technical fire chief, Gasly.
- 51:48Broadcast comes with the permission of the White Sox,
- 51:50the A's, the Stimulite Interest in our national game,
- 51:53and in your own local baseball team.
- 51:55WTFL, Chicago,
- 51:59more wide, well,
- 52:01a couple people must know about birthday,
- 52:03maybe got plenty of it.
- 52:05Here's one that I know is a real friend,
- 52:07Gary joins me in wishing you many happy returns this day,
- 52:10or a real sense of broadcasting,
- 52:12but I like that very much,
- 52:13and especially from General A.F. Lorenzo, who sent it,
- 52:16that's very well.
- 52:18Boy, the guy with service station,
- 52:20happy birthdays and best wishes.
- 52:22Early Oregon Joe, birthday greetings and best wishes,
- 52:26may you live long.
- 52:35Whoa, Larry Larson,
- 52:37plans the first ball pitch to him right on into left field
- 52:39for a good clean hard base hit.
- 52:41That ball was well hit out to left field by Rosenclaw,
- 52:44but she won first base,
- 52:46nobody out in the fifth inning for the White Sox,
- 52:48and Mike Pivots up there at the plate.
- 52:58It's already now to hit the first one to Mike,
- 53:00throws, and the hitter takes it inside across the knee
- 53:02for ball one.
- 53:12One ball called, it's already again,
- 53:14throws, hands it inside and blows,
- 53:17ball two making it two balls and no strike on credit.
- 53:20It's doing nothing to count.
- 53:32It's ready out there again,
- 53:33takes a look back at the runner at first and pitches,
- 53:36and hitters swing, hit a little bit,
- 53:38fly to right field, right field, it comes in fast,
- 53:40the ball drops in front of it for a base hit,
- 53:42and then he can grab a hold of it on the first half,
- 53:44has to pick it up a second time, and Rosenclaw,
- 53:47who had stopped to watch whether the ball was going to be caught or not,
- 53:50he had to get to second base,
- 53:52it was one of those dead spots out there that if Puccinelli had any luck,
- 53:58and could have gotten that ball on the hop,
- 54:00he might have made a quick throw to second and tried to force Rosenclaw.
- 54:04It was, he couldn't quite do it,
- 54:06towards the base hit,
- 54:08and the runner is on second,
- 54:10runner is on first and second,
- 54:12and the Texaco Liga is right,
- 54:14next hitter and the runner hits and drives into left field for another base hit,
- 54:17and left field throws the ball in fast,
- 54:19but Rosenclaw scores easily.
- 54:22Here, and he had time to get that Texaco Liga in to watch for that play at second,
- 54:27I didn't want to stay with the Texaco Liga,
- 54:29they forced him at second, I don't get the idea,
- 54:31we'll come to that you like.
- 54:34See Bill up here on this broadcast,
- 54:36we don't have any Texaco Ligas anymore,
- 54:38there's Texaco Ligas there, we've got to start individually,
- 54:41no more Texaco Ligas, no more Texaco Ligas,
- 54:43they're all Texaco Ligas.
- 54:45Now, Appling is there, the playrunner is still on first and second,
- 54:48nobody out, one run home in the fifth inning,
- 54:50and he first pitches inside for ball one.
- 54:57One ball called,
- 54:59throws again on the header,
- 55:00follows this one in to the stand to the right of the plate,
- 55:02for a strike and the count is one ball and one strike.
- 55:05One and one, on Appling,
- 55:14oil swings around ready again,
- 55:16it's another look like it's a runner,
- 55:18then pitches, look at the sift now,
- 55:20and he can cut in his rock and chair
- 55:21and rock out of the way of that one,
- 55:23and it's ball two, so it's two balls and one strike on Appling.
- 55:27Two balls and one strike,
- 55:32which has his time again,
- 55:34takes another look back at second base,
- 55:36and throws, and it's a wide one low for ball three,
- 55:39taking up three balls and one strike on Appling.
- 55:42Three and one is the count,
- 55:51then the oil pitches and it's ball four inside across the way,
- 55:55and look at the base fan,
- 55:57well, we have three innings in a row,
- 55:59they fill the bases with nobody out,
- 56:01and no, well, they're going to warm somebody up in the bullpen,
- 56:04don't tell me, don't tell me.
- 56:10Flight is walking out there to the bullpen,
- 56:12somebody else is also standing up to warm up,
- 56:15and Jackie Hayes is a fat,
- 56:20Jackie takes the first one, a fast strike
- 56:22over the outside corner, waist high,
- 56:24one strike on Hayes,
- 56:32throws again and it's in stride,
- 56:34the ball gets away from the catcher,
- 56:36the runner from third is scoring,
- 56:38slides in, the ball throw back from the pitcher,
- 56:40the catcher gets past the pitcher,
- 56:42there's nobody covering the plate,
- 56:44so Benura also scores.
- 56:46Hey, all your consumer spellers running home,
- 56:49you know, like these fireworks,
- 56:53you see a streak going across,
- 56:55another streak goes right after it,
- 56:57by the way those white streaks were tearing home that time.
- 57:00The first pitch, my credit scored on a wild pitch,
- 57:03for the other two runners advancing also,
- 57:06and then when the catcher threw back to the pitcher badly,
- 57:09Benura also scored,
- 57:11but Appling had to stay on second,
- 57:13and now the hitter swings the ball,
- 57:16the next one back into, they stand back in the plate,
- 57:18and it's one and one, one ball and one strike on Hayes,
- 57:29Jackie swings it, the next one,
- 57:31a long fly out to deep left field,
- 57:33but the left fielder is waiting there and makes the catch,
- 57:35the runner from second makes the break,
- 57:37it's all to go to third,
- 57:39but a very nice throw comes in from Finney to right to the bag
- 57:41at third base to hold him at second.
- 57:44So it's one out in the fifth inning,
- 57:46three runs out of home for the white star,
- 57:49Appling is still on second base,
- 57:51and Tony Clire is at back,
- 57:53the white star is now beating the athletics by a score of 11-2,
- 58:02Doyle pitches and Fyde leans way back to take the ball inside,
- 58:05across the way, one ball called,
- 58:08and there's ball two also inside.
- 58:30Doyle throws again and Fyde gets a high one inside for ball three,
- 58:34and it's three balls and no strikes on Tony Clire,
- 58:38hitting for the white star in the fifth inning,
- 58:40but Appling on second base, one out,
- 58:42three runs home and the score,
- 58:4411-2 in favor of the white star,
- 58:47throws again and it's a strike over the inside corner,
- 58:50ways to high fly, it made a start as though to go to first,
- 58:53but came back after taking only about a half a step,
- 58:57so it's three and one,
- 58:59and it goes again,
- 59:01oh, Fyde tries to twist out of the way of that one,
- 59:04the ball hit him right in the back,
- 59:06that's the second time he's been hit by a pitch ball,
- 59:09but in the record that goes merely as a base on ball,
- 59:12because the ball hit him, that hit him was ball four,
- 59:15in the old days they called that a hit batsman anyway,
- 59:18but the pitcher saves his record a little bit this way.
- 59:24Tony gets down there,
- 59:25warping a little bit slowly because the ball hit you that way,
- 59:29can knock the breath out of you more than the person could realize,
- 59:32I mean the average person can get hit like that,
- 59:34they have to carry them out on a stretcher,
- 59:36but the ball players in condition can take it,
- 59:39more or less have to take it.
- 59:41Luke Sewell, in fact, takes the first,
- 59:43takes the curve ball wide and blows the ball one.
- 59:46One ball call, gets you ready once more.
- 59:49For the runners on the go,
- 59:51they hit the ball right back to the second base
- 59:53and then flip it to the shortstop,
- 59:55too late to get the man there,
- 59:57but the throw to first does get Sewell.
- 1:00:00Second base moves over to the shortstop,
- 1:00:02got to the shortstop before he reached the bag,
- 1:00:04and because it was a hit-and-run play,
- 1:00:06the runners were on the go with the pitch,
- 1:00:08by a split in,
- 1:00:09taking the ball right back to the second base,
- 1:00:11and then the ball goes in,
- 1:00:13and the runners were on the go with the pitch,
- 1:00:16by a split in, safely.
- 1:00:18So Sewell is up on a rather peculiar roundabout play,
- 1:00:21play going from Johnson to Newcombe to Dean,
- 1:00:24and deeply can get to night time as he walks up to the plate.
- 1:00:34And he takes the first one for a strike
- 1:00:36over the inside corner, knee-high.
- 1:00:38This young man has been on base all three times,
- 1:00:40he's been at that once on an error,
- 1:00:42and twice on base hit,
- 1:00:44and there's a strike over the outside corner,
- 1:00:47knee-high, making it two strikes on deep tricks.
- 1:00:51He strikes a count,
- 1:00:53one for the pitch is winding up.
- 1:00:56He throws in deep,
- 1:00:57swings in a bounder down toward left field,
- 1:00:59Johnson grabs the ball,
- 1:01:00but it gets past him,
- 1:01:01and Ahnado, no, not Johnson,
- 1:01:03but Higgins, Ahnado in the left field,
- 1:01:05and two runs score as the runner reaches
- 1:01:07first base for the fourth consecutive time,
- 1:01:10and the fourth consecutive inning, I might ask.
- 1:01:13Ball was pretty well hit to the left,
- 1:01:15Higgins went over fast,
- 1:01:16tried to reach it,
- 1:01:17but it took a funny hop,
- 1:01:18turned up off his glove,
- 1:01:20and out into left field after hitting his glove.
- 1:01:26Didn't know sign yet in the official score
- 1:01:28as to whether that was a base hit or an error,
- 1:01:31and now the first pitch to Redcliff is inside for ball one.
- 1:01:35One ball called.
- 1:01:42It's running out there again,
- 1:01:44there's the stretch,
- 1:01:46and he pitches in Redcliff, swings in a bounder,
- 1:01:49Higgins grabs for that also,
- 1:01:51but it curves off his top back to the shortstop,
- 1:01:54who makes a backhand a take-up of it for too late
- 1:01:57to get anybody,
- 1:01:58and the runners are safe at first and second.
- 1:02:01Everybody down there, the reason is realism,
- 1:02:03just standing and looking,
- 1:02:05and nobody's going back into the press box to find out.
- 1:02:08We've got two to find out now, George,
- 1:02:10see if somebody will go up there.
- 1:02:11Well, you know what's going on.
- 1:02:13Rosenfeld is up there at the plate,
- 1:02:15on both of them, to pitch around Redcliff.
- 1:02:17He gets the first pitch,
- 1:02:18he drives into right field,
- 1:02:19the right fielder grabs the ball, drops it,
- 1:02:21and one run he's scoring,
- 1:02:23and the other runner goes to third base.
- 1:02:25You've got three of them to find out now, George.
- 1:02:27What do you know about that?
- 1:02:30Right fielder grabs the ball,
- 1:02:31seems to be right in his hand,
- 1:02:34and it hits his glove and drops to the ground,
- 1:02:38and as a result, another run scored,
- 1:02:40and the runners are on first and third,
- 1:02:43two out,
- 1:02:48six runs, holding his inning,
- 1:02:50and Creavich at best makes a wide strike
- 1:02:53over the outside corner above Nehigh,
- 1:02:55one strike on Creavich.
- 1:02:58One strike is a count,
- 1:03:03and there's a ball inside across the way,
- 1:03:06so it's one and one, one ball and one strike.
- 1:03:17Ball two comes in wide and low,
- 1:03:19so it's two balls and one strike,
- 1:03:21and one on Creavich.
- 1:03:31You mean the official score won't tell us
- 1:03:32whether to hit on there?
- 1:03:35Has he gone crazy or something?
- 1:03:37And now Creavich swings it high,
- 1:03:39found it down to the pitcher,
- 1:03:41who comes over to the line, gets it,
- 1:03:43but it's too late to get to man of first.
- 1:03:45He throws out there with the runner at state,
- 1:03:47and as a result, Radcliffe also scores,
- 1:03:50and the ball goes to second base.
- 1:04:00Creavich was a hit back,
- 1:04:01that's his net out.
- 1:04:05I wouldn't have said it.
- 1:04:06Who's the official score?
- 1:04:08Who's the official score, Whitey?
- 1:04:15Well, I mean, who's the official score?
- 1:04:17McNamara is the official score,
- 1:04:19and he won't tell us the score here.
- 1:04:24Well, they must be crazy.
- 1:04:25I mean, after all,
- 1:04:26if they want to act that way,
- 1:04:27why would they care about that?
- 1:04:29Now, Fleiss is in there to pitch.
- 1:04:33Fleiss is in there to pitch for the A's.
- 1:04:36They finally relieved Doyle,
- 1:04:39and Fleiss is tall,
- 1:04:41Slim right-hander takes up the pitching chores out there
- 1:04:43with Whitey's arch runners on first and second,
- 1:04:46two off, and a whole lot of runs home.
- 1:04:52Okay, Bill, see you later.
- 1:04:58Peacock's there to call the hit and run,
- 1:05:00because the narrow is out of gas,
- 1:05:01when he sort of spied that out of him,
- 1:05:03but I suppose Rodin calls with a narrow.
- 1:05:06I mean, if those players want to get swallowed,
- 1:05:08they don't want to.
- 1:05:15The thing is warm up out there on the mound,
- 1:05:20trying to catch up on this inning here
- 1:05:22and find out just all that did happen
- 1:05:24on account of...
- 1:05:30where a lot of things happened,
- 1:05:31and we couldn't quite figure out
- 1:05:33what it was all at once,
- 1:05:34and get them all marked down here.
- 1:05:37There's been a lot more runs in,
- 1:05:38but we're ready to go now
- 1:05:39for the deep Vanora's bat for the Starks.
- 1:05:46She throws the first one,
- 1:05:47and the header takes a strike
- 1:05:48over the inside corner wayside.
- 1:05:50One strike on Vanora.
- 1:06:00And there's a ball inside across the way,
- 1:06:02so it's one and one,
- 1:06:03one ball and one strike.
- 1:06:06One and one to count.
- 1:06:13And he gets the next one,
- 1:06:14a baller down to the shortstop
- 1:06:15who gets it, throws the second baseman,
- 1:06:17and the side is finally retired,
- 1:06:19previous just forced,
- 1:06:20had second base on a play,
- 1:06:25which went from the shortstop
- 1:06:26to the second baseman for the third out.
- 1:06:28Now let's see if I can figure out
- 1:06:30how many runs there were scored.
- 1:06:32One, two, three, four, five, six, seven runs
- 1:06:36in that inning.
- 1:06:39One, two, three, four, five hits,
- 1:06:43two errors,
- 1:06:45and two men left on b.
- 1:06:47And the score is 15-2
- 1:06:50in favor of the White Sox
- 1:06:52at the end of the fifth inning.
- 1:06:53And now again,
- 1:06:54for just a moment,

- 1:08:01Back at the ballpark for the sixth inning,
- 1:08:03the first-native bat dean
- 1:08:04had taken the ball
- 1:08:05and hit a foul and punched
- 1:08:06landed back in the plate
- 1:08:07for a strike
- 1:08:08and now hit the fly ball
- 1:08:09which Raphid gets out in left field
- 1:08:11for the first out in the sixth inning.
- 1:08:13One out in the sixth inning
- 1:08:14for the athletic

- 1:08:31One strike
- 1:08:32on Cuccinelli.
- 1:08:39And there's a ball inside
- 1:08:40across the way.
- 1:08:41For ball one on the count
- 1:08:42is one ball
- 1:08:43and one strike on Cuccinelli.
- 1:08:45One on one on the count.
- 1:08:52It throws the next one
- 1:08:53and it's a ball wide
- 1:08:54and low on the count.
- 1:08:55It's two balls and one strike.
- 1:08:56Two on one.
- 1:09:03It throws again

- 1:09:16There's a second strike
- 1:09:17over the heart of the plate
- 1:09:18about knee-high.
- 1:09:19So it's three balls
- 1:09:20and two strikes on Cuccinelli.
- 1:09:22Three on two on the count.
- 1:09:23It throws again.
- 1:09:24The inner swing

- 1:10:15One ball and two strikes
- 1:10:16on big Bob.
- 1:10:17One and two to count.
- 1:10:20He throws again
- 1:10:21for ball two
- 1:10:22behind inside
- 1:10:23and it's two balls
- 1:10:24and two strikes.
- 1:10:25Two on two
- 1:10:26on Johnson.
- 1:10:35The next one
- 1:10:36he has to duck under it
- 1:10:37and it's right up
- 1:10:38at his shoulder
- 1:10:39and he ducked under it
- 1:10:40to take it for the third ball
- 1:10:41making it three on two.

- 1:10:54and there he throws it back
- 1:10:55into the infield.
- 1:10:58And so Johnson
- 1:10:59goes on first base
- 1:11:00with two out in the sixth inning
- 1:11:01and Higgins
- 1:11:02here at the bat.

- 1:17:33In the eighth inning, the Indians are leading the Washington Senators at the end of the first of the sixth,
- 1:17:37by a score of 5-1. In St. Louis, the Browns lead the Boston Reds at the end of the first half of the second inning,
- 1:17:421-0. And now back to Kamisky Park and Halton. Take it Hal.
- 1:17:46Back of the ball clock for the seventh inning, the first man at best, Frank Hayes,
- 1:17:51the eighth catcher takes the ball and then falls one back against the front of the red box for strike one.
- 1:17:58And the count is one ball and one strike on Hayes. The next one is ball two inside and low.
- 1:18:05And the count is two balls and one strike on Hayes. Run one to count.
- 1:18:09He's been flying up against the Giants, pitches and Frank swings, they had a batter down the flat,
- 1:18:13gets it nicely, throws it first and throws high, but Vanuera gets back down on the bag,
- 1:18:18the four Hayes can get there and it's one out of the steps.
- 1:18:22Vanuera had to go into the air to grab that one. So it's one out of the seventh inning for the Athletics.
- 1:18:27And now for Nussom, Lamar Nussom, the eighth shortstop is up there at best.
- 1:18:34He swings it, the first one to drive on into left field for a good clean base hit.
- 1:18:41Sting from the left field by Nussom, bringing him on first base with one out of the seventh inning for the Athletics.
- 1:18:47And then he's done flying. Here's the bet. Thank you, William.
- 1:19:01Nussom on first base, one out, fly for pitcher at best.
- 1:19:07He watches first base, controls and flies, swings, head of balls, threw in the right field for a good base hit.
- 1:19:12He's got a second because there's no point to try to go to third with a club needing 13 runs to tie it up.
- 1:19:17One run wouldn't mean much if he took a chance on it.
- 1:19:21And that out very much if he could have made it anyway, because the right fielder was flying in pretty close for the pitcher at best.
- 1:19:30And fielded the ball quickly. The Hayes have runners on first and second with one out of the seventh inning.
- 1:19:35And the right-handed fielder is now playing left field in place. Fennie takes the first pitch inside for ball one.
- 1:19:45Down and six balls, two inside and low. And it counts as two and nothing, two balls and no strike on Peter.
- 1:20:03Two and nothing, there's a third ball inside across the lake, so there's three balls and no strike.
- 1:20:12Three and nothing. And there is ball four, it's over the plate with two low, and so Peter's ball, he's gone balls, and Dietrich has filled the bases with the seventh inning.
- 1:20:22And Moses, the center fielder, here's the bet. Just a chance the heat may be getting to Dietrich a little bit,
- 1:20:30because he hasn't been able to do an awful lot of pitching on account of having to run bases most of the time. He's been on bases all four times.
- 1:20:38He's finished that. Now the first pitch is a strike, a fast ball over the heart of the plate, waist high on Moses.
- 1:20:46The left-handed hitter, he just batted right-handed.
- 1:20:50Dietrich throws a ganicur, both of those into the turning side, and the ball bonded up under Sewell's arm. Sewell just walked out in front of the plate with the ball still under his arm.
- 1:21:02Now starts to rub the thumb on his right hand, he apparently took quite a start there with that. And it's one and one, one ball and one strike on Moses.
- 1:21:11Now the bases full with one out of the seventh inning, Heitzhacht leading 15-2. He could start to wind up once more, throws in the hitter swing,
- 1:21:22hit a high fly and a center fielder, throws and throws, jogging in a little bit as he makes the catch, gets the ball, turns and throws the third base to hold the runner from second there.
- 1:21:31The ball bounces off of his shoulder while he crosses into the infield to get it, has one run scored. Newsom scored easily from third base on Moses' long fly to center,
- 1:21:42scores the third run of the game for the athletics and makes the score 15-3.
- 1:21:50So it's two out of the seventh inning, Peter's still on first base, one run is home, and Dean, the first baseman is at best.
- 1:21:59So it's the first one and Dean hits the beauty out in the left center for a good long base hit, scoring clear out there to the wall, one run is coming in,
- 1:22:06second one rounding third base and coming in, and Dean pulls up that second base. That's how they can really hit that ball.
- 1:22:12Long double to left center by Dean, scoring both flights and Peter's, where the second and third run for the inning, makes the score 15-5 in favor of the white shot.
- 1:22:33And the man at bat is Puccinelli, the right fielder taking the first pitch wide for ball one.
- 1:22:44Here swings the next one, hit a high fly to left field, Radcliffe's under it waiting for it, has it easily, and it's three out,
- 1:22:53three runs, three out, and one man left on base. First half of the seventh inning, he scores, standing 15-5 in favor of the white shot,
- 1:23:03has the start to come to bat in the last half of the seventh inning, starts up with the seventh inning stretch, first white shot hitter,
- 1:23:11and looks to all the white shot, capital. This broadcast, the white shot, comes to you direct from the Miski Park, home of the white shot in Chicago, has a presentation of your neighborhood's technical dealer, distributor of technical fire chief,
- 1:23:25Gasoline. Broadcast comes with the permission of the white shot in the athletics, to stimulate interest in our national game, and in your own local baseball team.
- 1:23:34WCFL at Chicago. Couple more wires, Frank Jimetro, congratulations on your birthday. Frank, oh I know Frank, he's got that technical station down there at Ohio and Deerbitt.
- 1:23:51You know that too, Andy. And Jim Clark out of them, 29 or 92, congratulations.
- 1:23:58Well, eight white 92, five for eight.
- 1:24:05The white shot made the announcement today that Friday, July 31, next Friday is Ladies' Day here with no tickets, except tax tickets necessary for the ladies.
- 1:24:17There will be a double header next Sunday, August 2nd, for the Boston Red Sox, the first game starting at 1.30.
- 1:24:24Now, Stewart's bat takes the first pitch over the plate with low, and it's ball one. One ball called.
- 1:24:31She winds up again, calls in the header, takes the wide one across the way for ball two, and makes it two and nothing, two balls and no strikes on Stewart.
- 1:24:42She winds up again, and there's the first strike over the outside corner across the way, and make it two and one, two balls and one strike on Luke.
- 1:24:54She winds up again, makes it one strike on Luke.
- 1:25:05She winds one and the header swings the ball, the next one back into the second deck, down in front of us, and it's two and two, two balls and two strikes on Stewart.
- 1:25:15She's ready once more, starts to wind up close, Luke swings her high plow, and deep right center right field is chasing it, still going back, and grabs the ball way out there.
- 1:25:30She's got the ball back towards the center field, but gets away from him, who's going to have to go a long way for that ball, but he made a nice play on it, so it's one off. He's a seventh inning for the White Sox, and deep right, the White Sox pitcher again gets a nice hand from the fans as he walks up there to the plate.
- 1:25:45She winds up again, makes it one strike on Luke, and the ball goes back into the third deck, and the ball goes back into the fourth deck.
- 1:25:55She starts to wind up, and the first one to field, throws, deep, and swings into the high plow, and the center field, but Moses is jogging in under, and he has it, and it's two out, in the seventh inning.
- 1:26:06First time they've gotten deep to go, two out in the seventh inning for the White Sox, and rip right-thip, is a fact.
- 1:26:16Right-thip at the plate,
- 1:26:17first pitch of that strike over the heart of the plate, way side, one strike to count,
- 1:26:29and the ball inside across the way, so it's one and one, one ball and one strike on right-thip.
- 1:26:43Right throws again, and it's a high one wide for the second ball, making it two and one on the ripper.
- 1:26:54Two balls in one strike, but it's been up five times, gotten only one hit so far this afternoon.
- 1:27:00Right throws again, and it's another ball wide, so it's three and one, three balls and one strike.
- 1:27:09All right, winding up again, throws, and it's a wide one across the way for ball four, right, gets the base on ball,
- 1:27:25and it's the first man to reach base off flight, since he went in there and relieved in the sixth inning.
- 1:27:31Panura, the man who faced the first bat inning, forced the man for the third out, then he got three men out in the row in the sixth,
- 1:27:39and the first two in the seventh.
- 1:27:42Now, Rosenthal, Larry Rosenthal, is a fact, taking the first pitch, high and wide for ball one, on ball call.
- 1:27:49Throw.
- 1:27:57Throw again, and it takes a high one wide for ball two, and it's two balls and no strikes on Rosenthal.
- 1:28:04Two and nothing to count.
- 1:28:21Two and nothing, it's a ready again throw for a wide one and ball three, so it's three balls and no strikes on Rosenthal.
- 1:28:29Three and nothing to count.
- 1:28:44Three and nothing, it's a ready again, throws, and it's ball four, wide and low, and Larry gets the base on balls also.
- 1:28:51Well, he's been all over those bases this afternoon, that's the sixth straight time he's reached base. He has two hits, three walks, and he's been on on an error.
- 1:29:02White starts out runners on first and second, with two outs, he has the seventh inning, and Mike Krivich is up there at the plate.
- 1:29:10Mike takes the fast one for a strike over the heart of the plate, about waist high. One strike on Krivich.
- 1:29:17Ready again, takes another look back at second, and throws, and it's him tied across the waist for ball one, so it's one ball and one strike on Mike.
- 1:29:29One and one to count.
- 1:29:42Still watched the man second, then pitches, and Mike swings and falls the ball into the heart of the roof of the stand, above and to the right of the plate, bounds back down into the field, and it's still one and two, one ball and two strikes.
- 1:30:01One and two to count, and Mike swings and drives the next one into left field for the base hit, a little looping single out there, the left field had got the ball and falls down as he makes a violent throw to the plate, but the runners scored anyway.
- 1:30:14The leaders came in to get that little looping, takes the goalie here, and then as he grabbed the ball and threw hard to the plate, he tripped and fell. The ball came in pretty true, but Radcliffe did it anyway with the White Sox 16th run of the game.
- 1:30:32The White Sox runners on first and second, two out, one run over the seventh, and Zeke Van Lera gives a fat taking the first pitch inside and low for ball one.
- 1:30:50The ball hits the ground in front of the plate, bounds back into the infield, and the runners advance to second and third to pitch, he got the ball and started to throw to second only to discover nobody over there covering, and if the wild pitch flies, all the pitchers out there in front of the plate for the catch, he could get a hold of it,
- 1:31:11and it puts the runners on second and third, two out, one run home in the seventh inning, and two balls called on Van Lera.
- 1:31:20The White throws again and Zeke takes a good strike, a pretty one over the heart of the plate, waits high, and make it two and one. The ball goes one strike on Zeke.
- 1:31:35He gets the next one, but it's a foul, little pop fly coming up into the second deck over our left, bounds out, and over and back down into the lower deck, and it's two and two, two balls and two strikes.
- 1:31:55He swings again, a foul, another one back in the second deck up here, one fan struck up his hand to protect the space, the ball hit the hand and dropped right alongside of him, and it's two and two, two balls and two strikes.
- 1:32:14The throws again and it's ball three inside across the way, and I get three balls and two strikes on Benort. Three and two is the count.
- 1:32:32Three and two, it's ready again, starts to wind up, throws, and it's inside, but ball four of the ball got away from the catch, but didn't roll far enough to let anybody advance on it, so it's a base on ball for Zeke to fill the bases.
- 1:32:44Here's the seventh inning, starts at the base, and throws a two out, one run home, and Luke Apling is up there at the plate.
- 1:32:51Apling at bat, starts to score the runner leading 16-5 in the seventh inning. Luke has two hits, a walk and five tries, and the first pick to Luke is a wide one across the chest for ball one.
- 1:33:12One ball, throws again and it's a high one inside for ball two, has to turn around and ask for another ball and get it.
- 1:33:33Ready once again, now he's winding up, throws and he hits the one out to right field for another base hit, right field it fills the ball fast, one runner runs in, another one scoring, and Benort gets the third base, single to right field by Apling, scoring two more runs for the start, makes the score 18-5.
- 1:33:55He starts runners on first and third and two out, three runs home in the seventh inning, and the next man up there is Jackie Hayes, white start, second baseman.
- 1:34:12Looks around for boys and pitches and Jackie takes it inside and for ball one. One ball, calls. I think I brought some new pencils out today George.
- 1:34:28And there's a strike over the heart of the plate, weighs high on the count, he has two or nothing, two balls and no strikes on here.
- 1:34:42There's the next one for ball inside across the chest and it's three or nothing on Jackie. Three balls and no strikes.
- 1:34:53If you want to have more balls strike. Didn't see it weighed, so the four shows two and one, but it doesn't matter, Jackie hits the next one in the right field for a base hit, Benort out of charge, home man, half-ling, tough, second base,
- 1:35:07then go to right field by Hayes, scoring Benort, white start 19th out of the afternoon.
- 1:35:16How are you people getting along with that Texas Go score book? You got room for everything? Look at that face, all full of black marks, needn't run.
- 1:35:27How many pencils did you want out? Well, the first pitch now is flat, the flat is inside and low for ball one. One ball, calls.
- 1:35:39Watch the second base, throws again and Tony gets a strike over the inside corner, weighs high, so it's one ball and one strike on flat.
- 1:35:47One and one.
- 1:35:55Tows again and Tony gets the second ball, it's over the plate for two low and it's two balls and one strike on flat.
- 1:36:13It still keeps nine, second to five, and pitches and Tony jumps back, taking inside, across the waist for the third ball and it's three balls and one strike on flat, three and one now.
- 1:36:29There comes the first strike over the heart of the plate, weighs high, around to the second strike and it makes it three balls and two strikes on flat.
- 1:36:36Play on the swing all the way that time, now we'll go after if it's anywhere near good, three and two, there goes the runners, five swings, a parable, back into the second deck, often through our right over here, and it still three balls and two strikes on flat.
- 1:36:51Runners naturally were on the go to pick there, with a count of three and two and two out, first two men up there is anywhere, put out and then since then it's been one, two, three walks and three hits.
- 1:37:07With the runner on the way again, the next pitch is right in as Tony hit him in the hand as it hit the end of his bat and went down into the stands over there and the runners have to go back again.
- 1:37:23A walk there this time as he fell down to get away from the ball and hit the handle of the bat and see the hitter's finger, finger on his right hand, he rubbed it a bit, finally stepped back up to the plate, now it's still three and two.
- 1:37:45And flat swings again to fall another one back into the stands back here to our right and it's still three balls and two strikes.
- 1:37:53Three and two now on flat, White Sox runners on first and second, two out, four runs already home this inning and the White Sox leading the athletics 19 to five.
- 1:38:07A little more touchdowns then I quite score.
- 1:38:11And now flat swings in a high flyout, back of the plate coming down foul, catch a racing way back after it and he makes the catch for the third out after quite a run though.
- 1:38:22Ending the last half of the seventh inning, in that half inning the White Sox had four runs, three hits, two men left on me and the score is 19 to five and favor the White Sox over the Philadelphia athletics at the end of the seventh inning.

- 1:39:26Johnson White there while Merv Shea went out there to warm up the catcher. The pitcher is through, through his catching now.
- 1:39:37Drew was going in to finish the game behind the plate and Johnson swings to the first pitch to hit a foul into the stand at the right of the plate or strike one.
- 1:39:58One strike on Johnson throws a gun on the header, takes a wide low for a foul one and the count is one ball and one strike on Bob Johnson first man is back to the athletic in the eighth inning.
- 1:40:15There's the next one for balls two is wide and it's two and one, two balls and one strike on Bob because he's right hand his header. He forgets the side again, he's winding up, throws and header takes a line inside for ball three and runs the count of three and one.
- 1:40:32Three balls and one strike, swings the next one, followed on the ground back to the stand and it's three and two, three balls and two strikes on Johnson.
- 1:40:55The next one to hit a ball on the right track if Peechie could get to down the hop, throws the first and Johnson is out for the first out in the eighth inning. One out in the eighth inning to the athletic and Higgins is at that.
- 1:41:07Peechie Higgins up there to the plate, winds up, throws the first one, the high one wide for foul one, one ball called, on Higgins, one out of the eighth inning for the athletic and he swings in on the next one.
- 1:41:33The next one, a beauty of the center field for a long single, throws the ball, comes in, steals it on the hop, throws it in the second base and Higgins is on first base with one out of the eighth inning for the athletic and Frank Hayes the catcher is at best.
- 1:41:46Oh yes baby, athletics one, fifteen to eight, right now white starts are leading nineteen to five, kind of a series is this man, oh man. Now Dietrich throws the first one and it's wide across the way for foul one on Higgins, one ball called, throws the gun and strike over the outside corner about knee high, throws one ball and one strike on Higgins.
- 1:42:15One and one to count, there's the next one inside for foul two and it's two balls and one strike on Higgins, one one is to count, throws the gun and Hayes swings in a long drive up, deep time field, throws and throws back there, went back too far,
- 1:42:41hit the second step back in and reached down to catch that, well you almost went back too far on it, the ball was pretty well hit though and Frank a little faster than he thought it was going to.
- 1:42:51So it's two out of the eighth inning for the athletic, Higgins is still on first base and Newsom is at best. Newsom up there at the plate, first pitch is the ball wide and low, one ball called.
- 1:43:10Swings to next, it's a nine fly out, back to second base, and it's rolling over towards the shortstop and halfling comes in almost the infield grass to make the catch for the third out.
- 1:43:24One hit, one man left John B, first half of the eighth inning and the score remaining is 19-5 in favor of the White Sox, they come to battle in the last half, the eighth inning, first White Sox hitter will be Frank Groove, White Sox catch it, broadcast the White Sox, Philadelphia game comes to you direct from Comiskey Park to home of the White Sox to Chicago.
- 1:43:49As a presentation of your neighborhood, Texas Go dealer distributor of Texas Go, Fire Chief Gasoline broadcast comes to the commission of the White Sox and the athletics, the stimulated interest in our national game and in your own local baseball team.
- 1:44:03WCFL to Chicago, Moss or Donnie Mann out to catch three athletics, give Hayes a little rest, and the pitcher's flight finishes his warm up out there, Moss throws the ball out to second base, and Frank Groove steps up there at the plate to start the last half of the eighth inning, Groove who went in to catch and play.
- 1:44:32And the second base of Stull, he winds up now, throws in the hitter, swings in a boundary down to third base line, Higgins gets it easily, throws the first and it's one out of the eighth inning.
- 1:44:49One out of the eighth inning for the White Sox, and Dietrich, the White Sox pitcher, gets a nice hand as he walks out of the dugout, up there towards the plate.
- 1:45:02He'll do some relief pitching for the White Sox the other day, but this is his first start for them, and even though he's had such a good lead, he's hit good ball.
- 1:45:15Right throws the first one and Bill jumps back, take a fast one inside across the waist, almost took the buckle off his belt.
- 1:45:22One ball called, right again winding up throws, and here the swings are to miss the high fast ball inside for a strike, so it's one ball and one strike, one and one on Dietrich.
- 1:45:42He's winding up the county throws, and the hitter swings, had a little looping fly out over the first base, went in, put his third base in the afternoon.
- 1:45:49Stingled a right field by Dietrich, putting him on first base, one out of the eighth inning, and Rip Bradford, the White Sox lead off that and left the left back.
- 1:45:58Rip, for all his big batting averages, had a tough day, scored three runs, made only one hit, and on base on an error and on a walk.
- 1:46:07He scored all three times, he got on base many times, he played out three times, but he has only one hit, he had five times a bat.
- 1:46:14And the first pitch to Ripper, is a strike over the outside corner of our waist high. One strike is a count.
- 1:46:23Yeah, a fourth hit, you're right Andy, it's the fourth hit of the day.
- 1:46:27I lost strike on one of those little scratch dribblers down there.
- 1:46:31Right, the next one, the hitter swings and follows the ball back on the ground, and it's two strikes on Appling, two strikes to count.
- 1:46:41I've got Appling at bat now, huh? Or I'm punchy, I'm telling you especially now, it's Radcliffe at bat.
- 1:46:47Rip hits the next one, it's a ground ball, an easy one, down to the second base, and they turned it into a double play, a play going from Johnson to Newsom to Dean,
- 1:46:58getting deep-dick at second and Radcliffe at first.
- 1:47:02Run the eighth inning, no runs, one hit for the White Sox, and the score remains 19-5 in favor of the White Sox over the athletics at the end of the eighth inning.
- 1:47:16Then we remind anybody who hasn't already obtained it, or you who have already filled one and want another one, to get busy on the matter of this 19-36 Texaco score book.

- 1:48:00according to the scoring system shown in it, games that you'll remember and be able to live over for years to come.
- 1:48:07The music is starting for flight, starts the ninth inning, right handed hitter, takes the first one wide for a ball, and here comes ball two,
- 1:48:14high on the inside, so it's two and nothing, two balls and no strikes.
- 1:48:24He can throw it again, and it's a high one wide for ball three, making it three balls and no strikes.
- 1:48:36Now there's ball four inside, and he gets it based on balls, puts him on first base, with nobody out of the ninth inning,
- 1:48:42and Teters was now playing left field as a best.
- 1:48:58He had to throw in a nice one, but it was just his idea of trying to make the ball look bad and came right over the line of the plate for a strike.
- 1:49:10And he swings the next hitter, bounce it down past third base ball, and it's two strikes, two strikes on Teters.
- 1:49:26He throws again, and Teters gets a wide one across the way for the ball one, and the count is one ball and two strikes.
- 1:49:40There he swings the next one, a high fast ball inside to miss it, and strike out for the first out of the ninth inning, bringing Moses the center fielder to bat.
- 1:49:55He drinks out in the grass, looking north and boys over, and the seeding where they're playing, runs the ball up a little now,
- 1:50:00and walks back out of the mound, and the first pitch is a good strike over the outside corner knee high.
- 1:50:08One strike and a count.
- 1:50:18The swing's connected, a bounce it down to Hayes, and gets it, throws it second, the throw is high, and in juggling the ball, the runner slides in safely.
- 1:50:28And the half-ling seems to question that a little bit, and that'll be a nearer to second base on Hayes who made that bad throw.
- 1:50:37Moses save the first on the fielder's choice, and Nemec save the second on Hayes' bad throw to half-ling, which Luke couldn't handle, and here, he has needed that, taking the first pitch inside for ball one.
- 1:50:55One ball called, throws a count on the tip side, and goes for ball two, making it two and nothing.
- 1:51:14The balls and no strikes, and the swing's connected, the drive out to right center for a good base hit, one run is going, the runner from first stops at second base, and it's a single center field just to the right of center field by Dean.
- 1:51:25His third hit of the game, scores Nemec from second base, and moves the other runner to second base.
- 1:51:42The runners are on first and second base, one run home on the ninth for the A's, and Fugginelli follows the first one on the ground to the right of the plate for strike one.
