- 2:49Speaker 1: you're all about. What's your job is all about? And
- 2:52Speaker 1: now I see it's it's a reciprocated Well it was,
- 2:56Speaker 1: you know, he kind of did like a little tutorial
- 2:58Speaker 1: with me for the soundboard. You look like you're like
- 3:02Speaker 1: your DJ and a wedding or something. Your seats higher,
- 3:08Speaker 1: your seats higher, and everybody else. I'm on the least
- 3:11Speaker 1: comfortable seat. It's a high stool, but I chose a
- 3:15Speaker 1: lower of the high options we have. And you guys
- 3:18Speaker 1: can send the comfortable poets. Oh, you're great up there.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Thank you if you want. Man, we got ahold. This
- 3:26Speaker 1: is like a this is a giant lip cancer convention. Well,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I don't know. Like, so Taylor, we call you. Are
- 3:33Speaker 1: you spitting that thing right now? No, I've got my
- 3:36Speaker 1: mouth dropt from being out here. We just got out here.
- 3:37Speaker 1: You're not gonna pack one in now. I was sending
- 3:39Speaker 1: it right now. Are you gonna spit into that little deal? No,
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's in there right now. Yeah, I just go up
- 3:45Speaker 1: top with the pouches. That's why I switched to the pouches.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So I can I can save h I can I
- 3:49Speaker 1: can do it while the sound check. Yeah, we're yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I want I want to get into that upper deckers
- 3:55Speaker 1: and all that, and Jared, we're gonna get We're gonna
- 3:57Speaker 1: do intros. We're gonna end on Jared, he's gonna explain
- 3:59Speaker 1: that little that little Halloween themed um spatune. They still
- 4:03Speaker 1: called the spatune. Yeah, yeah, that's a portable spatuon. So
- 4:07Speaker 1: you can tell you with you it's not one of
- 4:08Speaker 1: them old brass one and it's got a big well
- 4:10Speaker 1: let's just talk about right now. It's called what it's
- 4:13Speaker 1: a mud jug, so it doesn't spill. Now, it doesn't spill.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It's got a weight to bottom and uh, you know
- 4:20Speaker 1: you take the punel right off with your two thumbs
- 4:22Speaker 1: and wash it out. Women love them. I can imagine
- 4:27Speaker 1: smell resistant. How many how many days can you chew
- 4:30Speaker 1: before you have that thing full of spit? I mean
- 4:33Speaker 1: it just depends on the dipper, I guess, but like me,
- 4:36Speaker 1: probably two days. Can we describe what this is? Jared's
- 4:41Speaker 1: on a podcast. Yeah, it's so I'm gonna go out
- 4:46Speaker 1: of order. So what was that? So Taylor called the musician.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You've been on the show before, but you're back because
- 4:52Speaker 1: your album's coming out, and then we're gonna skip. We're
- 4:55Speaker 1: getting a round of some other people and then um,
- 4:57Speaker 1: Jared outlaws here. Yes, how the hell you describe yourself? Like, uh,
- 5:03Speaker 1: just a guy, like a guy. I'm just a guy,
- 5:10Speaker 1: like like a very very popular. Like you got into YouTube.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We'll talk about all this. Yeah you got into YouTube,
- 5:17Speaker 1: like doing funny stuff. Yeah yeah yeah, and then uh
- 5:20Speaker 1: yeah doing outdoor, doing outdoor stuff like fishing and on.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But then it seemed like for a while the only
- 5:26Speaker 1: thing people cared about was what you got in your lip,
- 5:30Speaker 1: and that was like kind of the start of me
- 5:33Speaker 1: like a dip content pretty soon, like just making vidges
- 5:38Speaker 1: about dip. They just they just do uh can you
- 5:42Speaker 1: can you explain something real quick? Um? And then I
- 5:45Speaker 1: want to get to this petune Taylor you Oh, my
- 5:49Speaker 1: wife's going to thanks for those tickets very well. Is
- 5:53Speaker 1: that sold out? It's been. We set it up ten
- 5:55Speaker 1: days like prior to coming out here and sold out
- 5:58Speaker 1: in a couple of days, which is nice. So and
- 6:00Speaker 1: my neighbor likes that venue a lot. That's where we record.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Let me tell you a little bit of local uh something.
- 6:07Speaker 1: We record v O four our Netflix show at that
- 6:13Speaker 1: same place. Really, they'll smell me in the circle and
- 6:20Speaker 1: uh yeah, my wife's going to see I gotta I
- 6:21Speaker 1: gotta live town. But my wife's gonna check you out. Anyhow,
- 6:24Speaker 1: he was saying. Taylor Becaull was saying Jared that when
- 6:27Speaker 1: he was seventeen, he used to watch your dip videos.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I don't even know what the hell that means. I don't.
- 6:38Speaker 1: He's like, I kind of know him because we used
- 6:40Speaker 1: to watch his dip video and I used to have
- 6:42Speaker 1: this routine. I would before my parents got home. I
- 6:45Speaker 1: would scurry home, smuck a little grass, order pizza, and
- 6:50Speaker 1: put in a dip and dip and watch his videos
- 6:52Speaker 1: till my parents got home, and then I had to
- 6:54Speaker 1: hide the dip can in the grass and then pizza
- 6:57Speaker 1: would be going. Then we're saying, all you said is
- 7:01Speaker 1: it's not the first time I've a ritual, man. Yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 1: especially in the early days of like dipping. It's kind
- 7:08Speaker 1: of like, I don't know something about it. Just it's like,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I don't know, watching a hunting show while you get
- 7:14Speaker 1: to kill something. It was I think it dipping as
- 7:16Speaker 1: the thing, um not being not a dipper myself, I
- 7:20Speaker 1: didn't think of dipping as a thing where you took
- 7:22Speaker 1: in media about it. Now weed smoking is always been
- 7:27Speaker 1: a right, right, Yeah, Like that's like a whole genre
- 7:31Speaker 1: of there's like a music film right totally, it's got
- 7:36Speaker 1: its whole thing, totally, the whole thing about it now
- 7:40Speaker 1: it is like you think country musicians like they'd be
- 7:43Speaker 1: dipping in stuff where it's like it's actually kind of
- 7:45Speaker 1: on its way out in the industry. And I feel
- 7:48Speaker 1: like one of the ones that's like I'm I ain't
- 7:50Speaker 1: afraid to be a little man sometimes, you know what.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I know what I'm saying, you're young enough to still
- 7:55Speaker 1: be man. Yeah, okay, Jared, uh I got no question
- 7:59Speaker 1: for you. Um one thing that I took interested me
- 8:02Speaker 1: about you is, uh you did a couple of seasons
- 8:04Speaker 1: commercial fishing in Alaska, like person or what. No. So,
- 8:09Speaker 1: first year was setting it. So I went up there
- 8:12Speaker 1: and um that's where I mean setting heating is basically
- 8:16Speaker 1: all by hand. And the first year was in the
- 8:17Speaker 1: cook inlet out of Keen Eye, and uh so that
- 8:22Speaker 1: was that was brutal as far as um. I just
- 8:25Speaker 1: remember the captain that I had, like when he was
- 8:27Speaker 1: calling me, I was living in Florida at the time,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and he would call me. He's like, are you strong.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You gotta make sure you're strong, and uh I was like, yeah,
- 8:35Speaker 1: I'm strong man. I've been to the gym like four times.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And uh so I went up there and you know
- 8:42Speaker 1: when I was I think I had just turned nineteen
- 8:46Speaker 1: and um so first year was setting it and then
- 8:48Speaker 1: I did a little bit of cod fishing and halibut
- 8:50Speaker 1: fishing around there, and then second year went up for
- 8:54Speaker 1: the cod was it traps pots? Yeah, and so baited
- 8:58Speaker 1: and they just got like wings go out. Yeah, so
- 9:01Speaker 1: you you you can beat them. And then they have
- 9:03Speaker 1: like you can long line for him to kind of
- 9:05Speaker 1: the same way you do halibit, Like you'll go out
- 9:07Speaker 1: in your longline holibit and you can you know, rock
- 9:10Speaker 1: cod or something like that off the bottom um. And
- 9:13Speaker 1: then the second year went out and I was on
- 9:14Speaker 1: a guild that boat in the barn Sea. So I
- 9:16Speaker 1: was in out of Port Mooler, which is Gilnton for
- 9:21Speaker 1: what salmon in the summers. So uh yeah, so you're
- 9:25Speaker 1: I mean, you're you're catching everything from red silver's, pinks
- 9:28Speaker 1: kings and uh like gilnuton in the estuaries. Yeah, and
- 9:33Speaker 1: you're we would basically just run the Allusians and all
- 9:37Speaker 1: the way up to like you know, we're uh where uh,
- 9:41Speaker 1: what's the Deadliest Catches filmed in Dutch Harbor were like
- 9:44Speaker 1: just south of that or just east of that and
- 9:47Speaker 1: uh and you're kind of just throwing through the islands
- 9:50Speaker 1: and just trying. How old were you when you were
- 9:52Speaker 1: doing all that. I think I was. I turned twenty
- 9:56Speaker 1: one on the barn Sea and I didn't even know
- 9:57Speaker 1: it was my birthday. It was like, uh, I think
- 10:01Speaker 1: that was my last year up there. Yeah, you were
- 10:03Speaker 1: just like in the haze of daylight. Yeah, we were
- 10:05Speaker 1: the salmon run hit. So my birthday is May and
- 10:07Speaker 1: so the salmon run hit. Uh. The red started running
- 10:11Speaker 1: like a couple of days before my birthday. And I
- 10:13Speaker 1: think we went like I mean, I don't even know,
- 10:16Speaker 1: I don't I can barely remember because we never slept.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Like when you watch Deadliest Catch, it's no joke, like
- 10:23Speaker 1: it's you just don't sleep. Especially music. Yeah. Yeah, so
- 10:30Speaker 1: uh so I was up probably in that time for
- 10:33Speaker 1: over two days straight. Um. And plus my I I
- 10:37Speaker 1: had the shitty end of the stick because my captain
- 10:39Speaker 1: had arthritis, real bad so he couldn't pick fish. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:43Speaker 1: well this is this Yeah, this is my second year. Yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and uh so he had our throats real bad in
- 10:51Speaker 1: his hand, so he couldn't pick fish. You know when
- 10:53Speaker 1: you're when you're you're picking fish. I mean, it's a
- 10:56Speaker 1: lot of work, and it's a it's a quarter mile
- 10:58Speaker 1: long net and so your in it in on the
- 11:00Speaker 1: hydraulic drum and you're you're just slowly picking fish out.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And when it's the run, you've got ten thousand fish
- 11:06Speaker 1: in the thing, you're pulling kings over and he's just
- 11:08Speaker 1: standing there looking at you, like, go faster, faster. Are
- 11:12Speaker 1: you sorting all those fish as you pull them off? Yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 1: So we had like brailers in. We had like so
- 11:18Speaker 1: on this I think they call him Bronco boats. But
- 11:22Speaker 1: the so ever, you do all the work off the
- 11:25Speaker 1: stern of the boat and the wheelhouse and everything's up front.
- 11:28Speaker 1: It's not as big as the boats you see on
- 11:31Speaker 1: you know, Deadly's catch. But um so the gill net
- 11:33Speaker 1: is directly in the center on the on the back,
- 11:36Speaker 1: and you know you you've got fish holes directly unto that.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So we have the tops open sometimes like during the
- 11:42Speaker 1: samon run. We would just be I'd be picking fish
- 11:44Speaker 1: and and just throwing them on deck and then sorting
- 11:46Speaker 1: them later, because you're just trying to get him in,
- 11:48Speaker 1: get the net back in the water as fast possible.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But you we're you making good money doing that? Uh?
- 11:54Speaker 1: I didn't. I thought, you know, everybody kind of goes
- 11:58Speaker 1: up there thinking it's kind of he goes out to
- 12:00Speaker 1: get rich. When I was a graduate school, my roommate
- 12:02Speaker 1: would go up and do uh he'd do the cannary runs. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but he come back with some decent money. Man. If
- 12:08Speaker 1: I wouldn't do anything for months afterwards, well, if I
- 12:10Speaker 1: worked for like Peter Pan or something the canaries up there,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I would have made more money, which I would have
- 12:15Speaker 1: hated that. I mean, at least when you're on that
- 12:17Speaker 1: boat fishing, when you get you know, you get killer
- 12:19Speaker 1: whales coming up and humpbacks and you get to see
- 12:21Speaker 1: ball eagles all the time and stuff. Again. But but uh, yeah,
- 12:25Speaker 1: the cannaries is rough, you know. Um, it's not like
- 12:28Speaker 1: his adventurous Yeah. But I mean if we like the
- 12:31Speaker 1: two years I was up there, the salmon runs didn't
- 12:34Speaker 1: produce very well. Um, I kept trying to remember the
- 12:36Speaker 1: years I was up there. I think it was two thousand,
- 12:39Speaker 1: ten and eleven. Uh, two thou nine and ten maybe,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and the sand and runs just weren't producing that well.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And um that second year. I mean, when you're a
- 12:47Speaker 1: fisherman up in Alaska, it's all about networking. It's all
- 12:50Speaker 1: about who you know, the captains. You know. I had
- 12:54Speaker 1: a job ready for me on a crab boat that winner,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and uh. I came back home and I was like, yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 1: I don't know, I'm gonna go back up. Man. My
- 13:01Speaker 1: guy like, they don't guarantee you. They give you a percentage,
- 13:05Speaker 1: you know, but it's uh from what I was here,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and they're just like, you know, I mean, I'd rather
- 13:11Speaker 1: go back to Yeah, so that what's up, Dirt? I
- 13:17Speaker 1: have a dip in commercial fishing. Little story. Yeah, so
- 13:22Speaker 1: I did a season per saneing, but I haven't I
- 13:24Speaker 1: haven't reintroduced yet. I'm dirt. Yeah, you know what you're
- 13:29Speaker 1: like famous now? Me and Chester working our asses off,
- 13:33Speaker 1: making that boneapp video with Bradley on and then you
- 13:37Speaker 1: get famous off and you weren't even there. There a
- 13:39Speaker 1: spirit and actually I've had more people recognized me and
- 13:42Speaker 1: Helena from that video. Then ye stuff. Yeah, me and
- 13:45Speaker 1: Chester could have been saying good stuff about ourselves, right,
- 13:49Speaker 1: but I'm like, oh, I'm the greatest man ever, you know,
- 13:53Speaker 1: Brassle the bear whatever. I could have said crazy stuff,
- 13:57Speaker 1: but stead we talked about how cool you were, and
- 13:58Speaker 1: they made like a thing about how a cool yard.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Now you're like famous to be a Chester just nothing.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Well I'll share one now that I'm famous. When I
- 14:05Speaker 1: see an opportunity, all oh, I let you guys, let
- 14:08Speaker 1: people and they better put a graphics element in like
- 14:11Speaker 1: that the Bona people did for you. Yeah, that was nice.
- 14:14Speaker 1: It was really nice. Made me smile. Oh, super famous.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I know, I feel different. No, I got I got
- 14:21Speaker 1: nervous seeing you come in. My hands are shaken. Jester's
- 14:28Speaker 1: dirt man in person. But no, this is you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: like you I'm the one set because you realize we souls.
- 14:35Speaker 1: We're going to talk about this petune, this is DIEP
- 14:37Speaker 1: related and I just want to make sure. So yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I did per saning out of Catchkan or near there,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and uh, we sometimes do sets for the hatchery, and
- 14:49Speaker 1: so we had a tender that would come up. We'd
- 14:51Speaker 1: you know, we'd purse the net and then they'd come.
- 14:55Speaker 1: We wouldn't put it on deck. We put the fish.
- 14:57Speaker 1: The tender would suck the fish out of that is right, Yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 1: for the hatchery because then they transformed when it goes
- 15:03Speaker 1: to that. Yeah. But so one of the tender operators,
- 15:06Speaker 1: this guy Justin, he'd he'd have a dip in, he'd
- 15:09Speaker 1: be smoking and he'd be doing the sniff snuff. What's
- 15:13Speaker 1: the term for that snuff? Yeah, you know, I mean
- 15:17Speaker 1: like when you're doing like three tobacco products, the trife,
- 15:21Speaker 1: that's the thing. So but so he's doing, he's doing
- 15:29Speaker 1: he's kind of I mean, I was young and I
- 15:31Speaker 1: was a cure, but I was like, that guy's definitely
- 15:33Speaker 1: going overboard. A month later passes, they come back out.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I said, where's Justin? And now they're the tender captain
- 15:41Speaker 1: said he was in the hospital for internal bleeding. What's
- 15:43Speaker 1: that called internal bleeding? I feel like ruptured something ruptured artery. No, No,
- 15:54Speaker 1: he was in he was in the hospital because of
- 15:56Speaker 1: it something like that. He'm a topin or something memorrhoids.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So he was in the hospital dirt here because because
- 16:07Speaker 1: of the overconsumption of nicotine products. Yeah, So the next
- 16:12Speaker 1: time he comes out, he's in the hospital for overdoing it,
- 16:15Speaker 1: you know. So they admitted him for like too much tobacco, yeah,
- 16:19Speaker 1: which caused the internal bleeding. And so when he came
- 16:22Speaker 1: like a month later, they're back out and he's back
- 16:25Speaker 1: on the boats. Oh, good to see justin glad. You're good.
- 16:27Speaker 1: He's smoking and chewing still, but he's not doing the
- 16:30Speaker 1: sniff to that was his. But he cut back. He
- 16:33Speaker 1: cut back one of the tective pieces he did. He
- 16:36Speaker 1: did a thirty three percent reduction up the people up
- 16:41Speaker 1: in Alaska, man, I mean, when you're talking about nicotine
- 16:44Speaker 1: up there on fishing boats, it is insanity. Case explained
- 16:48Speaker 1: to displaying the deal the mud joke. Yeah, I tell
- 16:50Speaker 1: your story first. Yeah, it's about that. Well, we'll get
- 16:53Speaker 1: to this by the end of the entire duration. Years ago,
- 16:59Speaker 1: years ago, I was day and a flight attendant, and
- 17:02Speaker 1: I remember we're out one of our first ever dates. Man,
- 17:05Speaker 1: and uh, we're out shooting pool at a bar and
- 17:10Speaker 1: like I went to have sipped my drink but it
- 17:14Speaker 1: wasn't my drink. Yeah, yeah, and you know what, I
- 17:18Speaker 1: just grinned and bared. I didn't say anything to her
- 17:22Speaker 1: about it. Could tell what it was. Listen. Oh no, nothing,
- 17:26Speaker 1: because I'm not like I don't that. I'm not that
- 17:29Speaker 1: level of an aficionado. Man, I'm not like like, I'm
- 17:32Speaker 1: not like I didn't. I've never been on the car.
- 17:34Speaker 1: You should if they ever come out with another issue
- 17:36Speaker 1: a dip aficionado, Jared should be on it. Ye see
- 17:39Speaker 1: that one and only. Oh yeah, you're sitting next to him.
- 17:43Speaker 1: You're sitting right next ptographs after the podcast. Yeah, that's
- 17:47Speaker 1: the guy right thereado. Now I'm shaking. So oh I
- 17:59Speaker 1: took it big gulp and that is just like dah
- 18:03Speaker 1: didn't mention it, didn't spit it back up. I didn't
- 18:07Speaker 1: mention it, just rode it out from I could take
- 18:11Speaker 1: you to that barn, show you right thing of sitting now,
- 18:15Speaker 1: that tease that up, because that solves that problem. I
- 18:18Speaker 1: would never I mean, this is why it was created.
- 18:23Speaker 1: You know, it's got a weighted bottom so it won't spill.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Can I see a clean one? But yeah, so you
- 18:28Speaker 1: have it's spat there, you know, and then you it's
- 18:31Speaker 1: got a little tab on the side or you can
- 18:33Speaker 1: put you and put your tongue on her deck guy
- 18:34Speaker 1: and you can pop it up. But um, yeah, you here,
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's not threaded, just a little na oh. I see, yeah,
- 18:44Speaker 1: there you go. And so it's just like, you know,
- 18:46Speaker 1: it looks like an old spittoon. But you know, you
- 18:50Speaker 1: can do a whole bunch of custom stuff. So we
- 18:51Speaker 1: didn't meet either. My jokes for y'all. That's great, man. Yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 1: then you leave that around the house. You're not spilling it.
- 18:57Speaker 1: If it tips over, it doesn't dump out. I was saying,
- 19:00Speaker 1: I noticed that you guys generally like to. Like when
- 19:02Speaker 1: I was growing up, people like to. They really prefer
- 19:05Speaker 1: to do it into a mountain dew bottle. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 1: do bottle. Yeah, And for some reason, nastar like to spit.
- 19:13Speaker 1: So back in high school, we used to cut the
- 19:16Speaker 1: tops off the mountain dew bottles. So you cut it
- 19:19Speaker 1: like halfway up and then you flip it over and
- 19:24Speaker 1: you put some tape on the tape here and do
- 19:26Speaker 1: you wait at the bottom. No, I mean you could
- 19:29Speaker 1: you can throw something to throw rocks in the bottom, sure, man,
- 19:33Speaker 1: but yeah, that's what we used to do back in
- 19:34Speaker 1: the day. So you sell this product, Yeah, those are
- 19:37Speaker 1: my jokes. How do they how to folks find this?
- 19:40Speaker 1: My joke? Dot com gets Drew and you r L
- 19:42Speaker 1: and everything. Yeah that's awesome. Yeah all right, so also
- 19:47Speaker 1: joined by Drew. Explain yourself. I'm Drew Laskey. So I'm
- 19:51Speaker 1: Taylor McCall's manager. I worked with a couple of other
- 19:54Speaker 1: artists to John Goulsby and Olivia Wolf and I'm just
- 19:57Speaker 1: here to hang out and lets see what's going on
- 19:59Speaker 1: is Uh he's a decent manager. Yeah great? Was that
- 20:05Speaker 1: a week? Taylor? Yeah? I could Taylor tell everybody real quick,
- 20:11Speaker 1: what's up with your album? I've been sitting on it.
- 20:14Speaker 1: We recorded it in November, so I've been sitting on
- 20:16Speaker 1: it for a little while. And we just got these
- 20:19Speaker 1: vinyl and c D of graphic and everything, the full
- 20:21Speaker 1: package in a couple of weeks ago. I think it's
- 20:23Speaker 1: gonna be a big hit, man, I believe. So. I
- 20:25Speaker 1: like this album, Thank you man. We listened like we
- 20:27Speaker 1: listen to it so much it Uh, like I said,
- 20:29Speaker 1: we broke it. Yeah, yeah. In our camper, we have
- 20:31Speaker 1: a CD. That's a good problem to have in our camper,
- 20:34Speaker 1: we have a CD player, and uh we only keep
- 20:36Speaker 1: a couple of CDs in there. Totally totally and busted it.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I keep bringing keep outtakes all the stuff that didn't
- 20:43Speaker 1: make Exile on Main Street. That that's in there, and
- 20:47Speaker 1: your thing, Yeah, Ben, the Latter Blues you got that
- 20:49Speaker 1: one in there? Is that? Is that one of the
- 20:51Speaker 1: tunes on What Didn't Make? It's What Didn't Make ex amazing.
- 20:55Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite records. Um, and then we
- 20:58Speaker 1: have a Typhoon album in there. Nice. Now we're back
- 21:03Speaker 1: up to three. How did you do three sides to record?
- 21:06Speaker 1: So it's got Drew? Can you explain that you might
- 21:09Speaker 1: be better? Yeah? So basically it's saving money instead of
- 21:11Speaker 1: split it off on the four sides and put it
- 21:14Speaker 1: on three. You know, well, there's two records in this record.
- 21:17Speaker 1: The issue was running too. We would have had to, like,
- 21:21Speaker 1: there's so much like an intro and outros, my grandfather
- 21:24Speaker 1: singing on here and U. Not too many people these
- 21:27Speaker 1: days are putting nine minute songs on vinyl, and that
- 21:29Speaker 1: creates you know, you need more, more records. So that
- 21:32Speaker 1: was the most efficient way. You need to give out
- 21:34Speaker 1: a record player with this something bitch, because no one's
- 21:37Speaker 1: got a record player people. Yeah, I mean that's coming
- 21:40Speaker 1: back in. That's coming back in and people are listening
- 21:42Speaker 1: when they're selling vinyl at Walmart. People got a record player. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:47Speaker 1: that's coming back around. Man. I'll tell you what if
- 21:49Speaker 1: if I when I was just at my mom's house,
- 21:52Speaker 1: we went to visit with my kids and everything. Once
- 21:53Speaker 1: the you know, once it looked like the pandemic was over,
- 21:57Speaker 1: went to for a minute, whatever that was, whatever that
- 22:00Speaker 1: two weeks was. We went to visit my mom and man,
- 22:04Speaker 1: she still got I don't know where it came from.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I get like hundreds of scrap that I'm exaggerate, dozens
- 22:11Speaker 1: of these all that stuff from that era. It's like
- 22:15Speaker 1: Jay Giles band, arial Speedwagon, whenever the hell all that
- 22:19Speaker 1: was happening. Totally, it's just a piece of I mean,
- 22:22Speaker 1: it's like the front. It's to me, it's like it's everything.
- 22:24Speaker 1: It's the art, it's how the list is in order,
- 22:28Speaker 1: and uh obviously the music, but it's it's I don't know.
- 22:31Speaker 1: The vinyl was like something. Instead of watching TV. I
- 22:34Speaker 1: used to just get a new record and just cut
- 22:36Speaker 1: the TV off, you know, blast of speakers and eat
- 22:39Speaker 1: my dinner. And it was like a nice, i don't know,
- 22:41Speaker 1: refreshing way to have an evening, you know what I mean.
- 22:44Speaker 1: That's you kind of that's kind of a piece of that.
- 22:47Speaker 1: You can sit down with someone and say, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 1: let's listen to this thing all the way through rather
- 22:51Speaker 1: than all we have the option to skip or like
- 22:54Speaker 1: psychopath people that listen on shuffle. You know that's you know,
- 22:57Speaker 1: you know you don't have that option. You gotta listed
- 23:01Speaker 1: the way the artist wants it. So, uh, what what
- 23:05Speaker 1: did you play black Powder Soul last time you're on
- 23:07Speaker 1: the show. Was the first to hear it? Yeah? And
- 23:08Speaker 1: what do you play this time? Hell's half Acre? Something
- 23:12Speaker 1: figured out? I kind of just don't come in here
- 23:15Speaker 1: with agenda, just kind of free form it. Remember when
- 23:17Speaker 1: he had write that Diddy about Yanni? Yeah, I saw
- 23:21Speaker 1: some comments on that side and that boy can't write
- 23:23Speaker 1: no ditties challenge good blues musician bad did he write? Okay,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I'm okay with that. You're you're like, your focus is
- 23:33Speaker 1: Diddi's big, big time in the ditty's um And then
- 23:38Speaker 1: Shasters here, Hey, everybody, Chester's here because he's he's here
- 23:44Speaker 1: because he likes to be in on anything that has
- 23:45Speaker 1: to do with tobacco. This is like a collection. I'm here. Yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I just like I was like, you know, who else
- 23:51Speaker 1: likes to dip I would like to think it was
- 23:53Speaker 1: like I like music, you know, I was like, you
- 23:57Speaker 1: know who else likes bring Chester down? Oh, we gotta
- 24:00Speaker 1: talk about a couple of quick things. So a lot
- 24:01Speaker 1: of times when we cover off at the top of
- 24:03Speaker 1: the show, we cover off on email, we call it mail,
- 24:06Speaker 1: but it's email. But this is a special edition because
- 24:10Speaker 1: this is stuff that actually came in the mail. So Crane,
- 24:13Speaker 1: you'll appreciate this. So you know how we've talked a
- 24:17Speaker 1: lot about the writer Duncan Gil Chris, the late Duncan
- 24:21Speaker 1: Gil Chris. I always talking with a friend of mine
- 24:24Speaker 1: was with Duncan when he died filming Big Horn Sheep.
- 24:27Speaker 1: He said he just looked over and he was dead
- 24:30Speaker 1: so much it was so surprising that my friend turned
- 24:32Speaker 1: to him and said, Duncan, where did you go? Just
- 24:38Speaker 1: the heart attack or yeah. So Duncan wrote these great
- 24:41Speaker 1: books Hunt High and All about Bears, and I was
- 24:44Speaker 1: we were talking on here about how there's they were
- 24:46Speaker 1: self published and he didn't make many of them, so
- 24:48Speaker 1: now they're super expensive. Like people sell his books like
- 24:51Speaker 1: a thousand bucks, but with no no or nothing. This
- 24:56Speaker 1: shows up in the mail a fresh copy of All
- 24:58Speaker 1: About Bears from Australia. No note. I couldn't tell if
- 25:04Speaker 1: I was supposed to sign it. It's just nothing. I
- 25:06Speaker 1: think it was a I think it was like he's like, hey,
- 25:08Speaker 1: I gotta copy that, and I know they're rare. Yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 1: brand spiky knew all about bears from Australia. We gotta
- 25:15Speaker 1: find out who. Yeah, yeah, well I gotta Isn't that interesting? Um?
- 25:23Speaker 1: Thank you? Oh. Another guy wrote in like literally wrote
- 25:30Speaker 1: he bought a print. This will go in the studio.
- 25:35Speaker 1: It's a print of like the World's jackalopes. Yea from
- 25:42Speaker 1: the world over passes around all the species of jackalope
- 25:46Speaker 1: like creatures. Very nice gift you get in the bigger
- 25:50Speaker 1: studio to hang all this stuff on this busy week.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I just discovered I didn't know about like fifteen minutes ago,
- 25:57Speaker 1: twenty minutes ago. I didn't know about any of this stuff.
- 25:59Speaker 1: I didn't about this though, So yeah, you think of
- 26:03Speaker 1: that Chester. I think if I get another tattoo, it
- 26:07Speaker 1: might be one of these guys. Yeah, for sure. There's
- 26:11Speaker 1: a scientific journal called Fisheries. I think it's called Fisheries right,
- 26:16Speaker 1: Oh god, wow, is it called fisheries. I know it
- 26:19Speaker 1: because it's always sitting on my brother. Uh has published
- 26:24Speaker 1: in Fisheries and whatnot. Anyways, this article see this article
- 26:28Speaker 1: right here. That that's a It's an article appearing in
- 26:31Speaker 1: an issue of Fisheries, which is the scientific journal of
- 26:34Speaker 1: the fisheries World. The article is called Goodbye to rough
- 26:39Speaker 1: Fish Paradigm shift in the Conservation of Native Fishes fish.
- 26:47Speaker 1: This is from a peer review journal. What's rough fish? Uh,
- 26:52Speaker 1: it's a step up from what they used to be called,
- 26:55Speaker 1: which is trash fish. So trash fish would be buffalo
- 27:06Speaker 1: bourb it to some people. Some people call whitefish trash fish.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Every kind of every kind of sucker, every kind of
- 27:13Speaker 1: the dozens of sucker species gar like long nose, short
- 27:18Speaker 1: nose alligator might at one time have all been what
- 27:22Speaker 1: they called trash fish. But fishing game agencies even will
- 27:26Speaker 1: still use like fish and game agencies never said trash fish.
- 27:30Speaker 1: They would say rough fish. And this article is talking
- 27:33Speaker 1: about a shift in public perception around trash fish. There's interesting.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I'm getting the main point in minute here. Oh he's
- 27:42Speaker 1: got who wants to take a look at that? Here,
- 27:43Speaker 1: here's a litany, here's a rogues gallery of trash fish
- 27:46Speaker 1: in this Oh wait, side note, we should uh for
- 27:50Speaker 1: a new meat eater game. We should do a deck
- 27:53Speaker 1: of cards for go fish. But right, remember when they
- 27:58Speaker 1: invaded Iraq and they made that deck cards everybody were
- 28:00Speaker 1: looking for. Yeah, yeah, we could make a deck cards
- 28:05Speaker 1: of all the rough fish based off of that Iraq
- 28:08Speaker 1: deck cards. Because the ace of spades was saddam thing.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Oh you know, I was reading the ore day uh
- 28:16Speaker 1: in Um and you know Inherent Vice, the Thomas Pinching novel.
- 28:22Speaker 1: They made a movie with Joaquin Phoenix and stuff Inherent Vice. Anyways,
- 28:26Speaker 1: in Inherent Vice, he was saying that what wild Bill Hickock.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Everybody knows the dead Man's hand aces and eights, the
- 28:35Speaker 1: fifth card. This book says that his fifth card was
- 28:41Speaker 1: the seven hearts. No one knows that. But then I
- 28:44Speaker 1: got to thinking and looked it up. And it's a
- 28:46Speaker 1: widely debated issue. What was wild Bill's fifth card? Have
- 28:52Speaker 1: you seen ballad of Buster Scrugs? You haven't seen that.
- 28:59Speaker 1: When you watch it, you'll see Buster Scrugs is invited
- 29:02Speaker 1: to join a card game and he wants his own
- 29:05Speaker 1: hand dealt and they're like, you can play that hand
- 29:09Speaker 1: and he looks and it's aces and eights and then
- 29:13Speaker 1: set some down, says I don't want to play, but
- 29:15Speaker 1: then still dies later that day, like just being just
- 29:19Speaker 1: peering at aces and eights killed him. So who's got
- 29:24Speaker 1: the road gallery? These are all rough fish. I'm getting
- 29:29Speaker 1: to the point. Here was pike on there, pike mettle, oh,
- 29:33Speaker 1: northern pike mental. The northern pike mental is a fish
- 29:37Speaker 1: previously known as a squaw fish. But there in some areas.
- 29:41Speaker 1: So this there's a graph and here about scientific research
- 29:44Speaker 1: of fish. Where is this thing? Man? Oh, look at this.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So I'm holding up a graph that shows how much
- 29:51Speaker 1: fisher researched. Okay, And here up top, of course, the
- 29:57Speaker 1: rainbow trout. There's a book about the rainbow trout called
- 30:00Speaker 1: like the World's first synthetic fish. That's rainbow trout. Okay,
- 30:07Speaker 1: and then it goes down of like, so these are
- 30:10Speaker 1: game fishes the top, and it's just like a relative
- 30:14Speaker 1: graph showing scientific research of fishes. Of the game fish
- 30:18Speaker 1: is the most researched three, I'll do the most researched
- 30:22Speaker 1: five fish, rainbow trout by like a long shot, and
- 30:28Speaker 1: then kind of clump lumped together, chinook salmon, large mouth bass,
- 30:33Speaker 1: atlantic salmon, and brook trout are all kind of like
- 30:37Speaker 1: in second place for alec scientific resources to study. And
- 30:43Speaker 1: then relative to that, it gets into rough fish non
- 30:46Speaker 1: native and rough fish native um of rough fish escape ease.
- 30:55Speaker 1: The ones that got into new waters. Lake whitefish gets
- 30:59Speaker 1: the most research, and it gets about as much research
- 31:02Speaker 1: as a soger. The least is the alligator gar. And
- 31:07Speaker 1: then look at the piss ant amount of research that
- 31:09Speaker 1: happens on all these species of fish here, So like
- 31:13Speaker 1: basically of of zero interest to the scientific community to
- 31:17Speaker 1: date would be such as short nosed gar, spotted soccer,
- 31:21Speaker 1: golden red horse, gold eye, quillback carp sucker, sacramento pike,
- 31:25Speaker 1: mental mooney, silver red horse, blue soccer, river, red horse,
- 31:29Speaker 1: high finn, carp sucker, blacktail, red horse. How many of
- 31:33Speaker 1: you in the in the room know some of those
- 31:34Speaker 1: fish or all of them? Yeah? I mean, I mean
- 31:38Speaker 1: good good eat like why not fish? No, But that's
- 31:41Speaker 1: the whole you know, we Okay, everyone can go watch
- 31:44Speaker 1: everyone can go watch episode one of Pardon My Plate
- 31:49Speaker 1: with Steven Spencer about carp and I mean these are
- 31:52Speaker 1: like culturated. That's why I'm bringing this up. Talk about
- 31:57Speaker 1: our work in this article. Oh, they talk about the
- 32:01Speaker 1: work of our company in this article. They mentioned it
- 32:03Speaker 1: or that being like of being part of like part
- 32:08Speaker 1: of a broader movement of of teaching people to have
- 32:12Speaker 1: an appreciation for these native fishes that have been in
- 32:15Speaker 1: your waterways since the beginning of At the end of
- 32:18Speaker 1: the day, can't anyone make you know, can't these fish
- 32:20Speaker 1: go well? And uh fish cake? Sure? Yeah, your fishcake recipe.
- 32:25Speaker 1: I mean that video that Dirt got famous in Mountain Whitefish,
- 32:32Speaker 1: that's trash fish. Yeah, you can do two things at once.
- 32:35Speaker 1: You can find out about mountin Whitefish and find out
- 32:38Speaker 1: how Dirt got famous about watching the same video, but
- 32:41Speaker 1: just the whole trash fish thing or rough fish thing.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So like, whose palette was it? Really just based on
- 32:46Speaker 1: taste the thing? I mean, who because they feed on
- 32:50Speaker 1: the bottom. Maybe some of them suckers. I think it's that,
- 32:53Speaker 1: I get it. It's the it's the there's an excessive
- 32:56Speaker 1: amount of bone almost universally is a lot of bone.
- 33:00Speaker 1: But you can pickle it and dissolve the bone. Okay,
- 33:02Speaker 1: let me put it this way. It would be that
- 33:06Speaker 1: it takes the greatest amount of work the greatest amount
- 33:10Speaker 1: of effort to yield and uh to yield a taste
- 33:18Speaker 1: and dining experience acceptable to the average American palette. Yeah,
- 33:23Speaker 1: but okay, we like peanut butter and jelly, and they
- 33:26Speaker 1: would give that. That would not be a rough sumwich.
- 33:29Speaker 1: That would not be a rough sandwich. Now, if you
- 33:31Speaker 1: had a peanut butter, jelly and bone sandwich, that might
- 33:35Speaker 1: be a rough sandwich. But it's just getting so that
- 33:38Speaker 1: that's the paradigm shift is stop, Like what El was kidding?
- 33:43Speaker 1: My dad knew all the game birds. Okay, he knew
- 33:47Speaker 1: a couple of birds he hated, and every other bird
- 33:50Speaker 1: on the planet was a tweetie bird. Hundreds of tweetie
- 33:57Speaker 1: bird species. Two birds that he hated, and then like
- 34:03Speaker 1: he like like robins and chicken eas he hated curls
- 34:06Speaker 1: and blue jays. Then there's all the game birds and
- 34:08Speaker 1: then there's tweety birds. That's basically how it went. Do
- 34:12Speaker 1: you think it's a visual thing too? With the fish
- 34:15Speaker 1: they like, rainbow trout just looks prettier than a carp No,
- 34:20Speaker 1: I don't think it's visual. It's the processing, I don't think.
- 34:22Speaker 1: So that's it for the mail bag that was that
- 34:25Speaker 1: was that was all physical mail. Look at that physical
- 34:31Speaker 1: mail and records in right. Okay, last thing, this is
- 34:36Speaker 1: back to email, but it's kind of weirds. It's an
- 34:38Speaker 1: internal email. One of the Corey Caulkins. If you email us,
- 34:43Speaker 1: that's who reads the email. Among other things, he was out,
- 34:46Speaker 1: I mean just he must have been out scouting or
- 34:48Speaker 1: hunting this weekend, hunting. There's a bad drought here right now,
- 34:52Speaker 1: he said. The picture of a water tank he found
- 34:56Speaker 1: the greenest this the water and he looks like gatorade
- 35:00Speaker 1: that level of green and in one tank because he's banking.
- 35:05Speaker 1: He's thanking the drought on this. How thirsty it's making
- 35:07Speaker 1: everything in one tank. He sent a photo of this
- 35:10Speaker 1: are floating twenty four pine squirrels, two golfers, and two
- 35:15Speaker 1: chicken eas floating in the tank, just trying to get water.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Particularly that. I'll put that on Instagram. So if you
- 35:25Speaker 1: go to at Steve Ronell on Instagram, you'll find just
- 35:28Speaker 1: look for a bunch of dead stuff floating in some
- 35:29Speaker 1: green water. You'll know you're looking at the right picture.
- 35:32Speaker 1: That's something you have. The ranch I grew up on,
- 35:37Speaker 1: for the first time ever, they had sheep die this
- 35:39Speaker 1: year because of the heat and drought. Ever, it's five
- 35:42Speaker 1: generations of families. It's been a dry or oh christ,
- 35:50Speaker 1: I think they died from the water, just from drowned
- 35:52Speaker 1: and drowning thirst, craze pine squirrels. Oh, last thing before
- 35:58Speaker 1: we get to the before we get to the meat
- 35:59Speaker 1: of it here, Uh, Doss Boat Season three is out Northeast.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Episode one features our very own cal and Joel Sir
- 36:11Speaker 1: Mellie fishing New Jersey stripers. So you can check that out. Now,
- 36:16Speaker 1: how do they go for? I would just if you
- 36:17Speaker 1: type in like if you if you go into Google
- 36:18Speaker 1: and type in like doss Boat, it'll it'll pull you
- 36:21Speaker 1: right up and you can watch it on our Meat
- 36:23Speaker 1: Eaters YouTube channel or on our website. Ignore everything about
- 36:28Speaker 1: Doss Boot. If it's a bunch of Germans in the submarine,
- 36:30Speaker 1: that's not the right thing. If it's Germans in the
- 36:33Speaker 1: sub it's the wrong video. If it's Americans in a boat,
- 36:38Speaker 1: that's the right video. That's the best way to tell.
- 36:41Speaker 1: And then Uh. Season ten drops on Netflix September, coming
- 36:49Speaker 1: right up. A lot of dirts handywork on there. Oh,
- 36:53Speaker 1: speaking of that, I was gonna tell you, I'll hit
- 36:56Speaker 1: fifty episodes this season. I think you've done eisodes of
- 37:00Speaker 1: Meat Eater, not counting like stars and sky stuff. Yeah,
- 37:03Speaker 1: well I'm at forty six. New Mexico will be It's
- 37:09Speaker 1: like fift wedding anniversary. I got a quick note for kid,
- 37:16Speaker 1: quick note for kids in my home state, uh, Michigan.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Right now, the DNR is paying seventy five bucks a
- 37:22Speaker 1: bushel for red pine cones. So if you're a kid, well,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I mean they'll pay adults too, but I don't think
- 37:31Speaker 1: adults should be out hog enough. Do you know what
- 37:33Speaker 1: I mean? It's like you know they're out there. I
- 37:36Speaker 1: don't think they should be out there. I think you
- 37:38Speaker 1: should be for kids to do seventy bucks per bushel.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Red pine is on an off year this year, so
- 37:45Speaker 1: producing less seed so there won't be enough seedlings in
- 37:49Speaker 1: a few years to replant and transplant. In order to
- 37:52Speaker 1: get paid for your bushels, you need to register with
- 37:55Speaker 1: the d n R first, So if you're a kid,
- 37:57Speaker 1: have your mom and dad help you register and collect
- 38:00Speaker 1: red pine cones seventy five bucks a bushell. You remember
- 38:03Speaker 1: they started paying that bounty on on Northern Pike Mentals
- 38:09Speaker 1: and some guys are pulling six figures, six figures? How
- 38:13Speaker 1: much has the guy put himself out of business because
- 38:14Speaker 1: the next year he only made seventy k? Like he outfished,
- 38:18Speaker 1: he bound bounty hunting for fish. How much is a bushel? Roughly?
- 38:22Speaker 1: Volume wise, it's like four packs? Right? What's four packs
- 38:26Speaker 1: or three packs or so? I can't remember, or maybe
- 38:30Speaker 1: three bustels is a pack? Someone? This is easily solvable.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Easily solvable. You're gonna get that. Nurses us pints and
- 38:43Speaker 1: you can't. You can't pick them off the ground. You
- 38:46Speaker 1: gotta pluck them from the tree. You have to bring
- 38:49Speaker 1: your mynd dad in the ladder. It's getting more complicated
- 38:51Speaker 1: for the kids in Michigan. Okay, Now back to Taylor.
- 38:56Speaker 1: You got a new album coming out? To everybody about it?
- 38:59Speaker 1: Um it is uh. It's when I moved to Nashville,
- 39:02Speaker 1: I had feel like I had necessarily three years to
- 39:05Speaker 1: kind of up from when I started there. I had
- 39:07Speaker 1: seven songs and transpired into now having you know, about
- 39:10Speaker 1: a hundred fifty or so, and then now it's uh,
- 39:13Speaker 1: it got whittled down to how many twelve on this record?
- 39:18Speaker 1: Plus grandpa plus my grandfather, So just your Grandpa makes
- 39:21Speaker 1: a cameo on it. Yeah, so it's kind of a
- 39:23Speaker 1: salute to him. So I was at a funeral and
- 39:26Speaker 1: this came That song came on. I think my great
- 39:29Speaker 1: grandmother like maybe four years ago or so, and uh,
- 39:32Speaker 1: the lady, kind of family historian lady. I was like,
- 39:35Speaker 1: it's like I gotta have this. Died my great grandmother.
- 39:39Speaker 1: She was just old, real old, you know what I mean,
- 39:41Speaker 1: old age and uh and uh, anyway, that came on
- 39:46Speaker 1: and I was like, man, this is a cool Johnny
- 39:47Speaker 1: Cash song. And I was like, wait, that's my grandfather
- 39:50Speaker 1: and my mother singing harmonies. Uh, she's thirteen or fourteen
- 39:54Speaker 1: and that and uh. I had that file of eight
- 39:57Speaker 1: tracks that she sent me and the only one of
- 39:59Speaker 1: my rand father was number four. And it took me
- 40:02Speaker 1: like two years before I could even muster up to
- 40:04Speaker 1: really listen to it. And so like halfway through the record,
- 40:07Speaker 1: I was like, um, we got into drinking some tequila
- 40:10Speaker 1: and wine and I showed the guy it's just h yeah,
- 40:16Speaker 1: And I showed the producer Sean and uh, he started crying.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I don't know if it was from the tequila wan,
- 40:21Speaker 1: but he was like, this has got to be on
- 40:23Speaker 1: here and I don't know. It's it's a I like
- 40:26Speaker 1: to think in a lot of different unconventional ways. And
- 40:29Speaker 1: to me it's like an outcast thing, like an old
- 40:31Speaker 1: hip hop thing to put of a weird intro or that,
- 40:33Speaker 1: you know. And a lot of people that have listened
- 40:35Speaker 1: to this privately have gotten caught into the record because
- 40:39Speaker 1: it's it reminds them of something maybe from like they
- 40:42Speaker 1: something familiar, you know, with old country music. And I
- 40:44Speaker 1: look at as a as a piece like the beginning
- 40:47Speaker 1: in the end the old ship was on. It's kind
- 40:49Speaker 1: of this, you know, you get dropped off by the
- 40:51Speaker 1: boat and you get picked up at the end and
- 40:52Speaker 1: in the middle is this like hellish sonic landscape that
- 40:56Speaker 1: uh me and Sean made ourselves everything and uh Ben
- 41:00Speaker 1: Alamant who played keys on like two songs. But other
- 41:03Speaker 1: than that, we hunkered down for two weeks and made
- 41:05Speaker 1: this and I couldn't have Uh. It's one of those
- 41:08Speaker 1: things like I'm sure when you write a book, um,
- 41:10Speaker 1: it's one of those things you can kind of have
- 41:12Speaker 1: this master plan of how it's gonna maybe be your masterpiece,
- 41:16Speaker 1: but when it kind of towards the end of the process,
- 41:19Speaker 1: when you get out to the other side. Sometimes it
- 41:21Speaker 1: can be more that you can never have realized. And
- 41:24Speaker 1: to me, this is uh, it's really one of those
- 41:26Speaker 1: that kind of happened like that, and I don't have
- 41:28Speaker 1: just once you get that energy, the feeling you get
- 41:31Speaker 1: from making this stuff, it's hard to put it down,
- 41:35Speaker 1: you know. Uh you mentioned writing a book. I think
- 41:37Speaker 1: a strategy for writing a book, Um, and I've done
- 41:40Speaker 1: this is right at ending that you think is real good,
- 41:43Speaker 1: and then try to write a book that would be
- 41:45Speaker 1: good enough to have the ending. That's right, You're like, man,
- 41:48Speaker 1: if I could deliver on that ending and the beginning
- 41:51Speaker 1: good ending, ending and the beginning, but start with ending first,
- 41:54Speaker 1: maybe yea, yeah, what And then what I'll do is
- 41:55Speaker 1: I'll read all the easy parts and then I just
- 41:59Speaker 1: kind of like, of course, first I don't do anything
- 42:03Speaker 1: for a long time. Then I started writing the hard part. Yeah. Well,
- 42:06Speaker 1: I feel like you learned so much, Like I didn't
- 42:08Speaker 1: know half the things I knew before I started being
- 42:11Speaker 1: a songwriter. It's one of those things you can use.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I was playing a wedding some some
- 42:17Speaker 1: fans of mine. They were getting married and one of
- 42:19Speaker 1: their Sisters is like kind of flew me up there
- 42:21Speaker 1: in secret and I played for him, and uh, it's
- 42:24Speaker 1: just one of those things. They were like they're taking
- 42:26Speaker 1: me to the airport and you're like you're reading the
- 42:28Speaker 1: Tipetan Book of the Dead. You know that's weird. But
- 42:30Speaker 1: as a writer, the more you know not normal things
- 42:33Speaker 1: you read, the better ideas and the broader perspective you have,
- 42:37Speaker 1: you know what I mean, you have more to pull
- 42:39Speaker 1: from or a bunch of useless stuff that uh, I
- 42:42Speaker 1: don't know. When you have a few drinks, you can
- 42:43Speaker 1: tell a couple of people. So when you start playing
- 42:45Speaker 1: around the tour for the album, how will that go?
- 42:48Speaker 1: We're starting uh end of October going to Texas with
- 42:52Speaker 1: the producer Sean, So it would be my first time
- 42:55Speaker 1: in Texas, step footing there and it's gonna be a
- 42:57Speaker 1: great run of shows and um running and who so
- 43:00Speaker 1: I've been this was the first project of electric guitar stuff.
- 43:03Speaker 1: So I've been working the kinks uh with a gear
- 43:06Speaker 1: part for like four or five dates before this run,
- 43:09Speaker 1: and we're playing American of Fist September, so it'll be
- 43:13Speaker 1: a good, good run. I like to do it in
- 43:15Speaker 1: short spurts some kind of home body, and uh, I
- 43:18Speaker 1: feel like I give everything I got when I make music.
- 43:20Speaker 1: You know, it's uh, it's not a half ass thing.
- 43:22Speaker 1: It really comes from here. So I have to kind
- 43:24Speaker 1: of hit it hard and then rest, you know, my
- 43:26Speaker 1: mind and body. I see what it means, see what
- 43:29Speaker 1: it means to like want to live in a k
- 43:30Speaker 1: forever sometimes, you know. So, do you still regard yourself
- 43:33Speaker 1: as a fisherman or is that behind you know? No,
- 43:34Speaker 1: it's not behind me. I just don't get to My
- 43:37Speaker 1: headspace is kind of flipped right now with the aspect
- 43:39Speaker 1: of getting this to a place to where I can,
- 43:42Speaker 1: you know, really get to where I want to fish.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I don't. I don't really fish much in Tennessee because
- 43:46Speaker 1: I got spoiled out here, and uh, I'd rather put
- 43:49Speaker 1: in the time and get to a place where I
- 43:50Speaker 1: can go down to Patagonia or something rather than just stayed.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Because you like fishing for trout, Yeah, if you listen,
- 43:58Speaker 1: Tennessee's got care about trash fish. Tennessee's got way better
- 44:01Speaker 1: fishing than this. They've got armadilla fish too, they float.
- 44:05Speaker 1: That's that's a great fishing state. They've got some great fishing,
- 44:08Speaker 1: but like right in Nashville, like um sport fishing. Yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 1: The problem is those all those songwriters down there sure
- 44:15Speaker 1: talk about it all damn time. Yeah, I mean it's
- 44:17Speaker 1: but they I don't know, they haven't you know, been
- 44:19Speaker 1: between the lakes, you know, up there in the Madison.
- 44:22Speaker 1: It's like that's to me, you know, it's like using
- 44:25Speaker 1: a shitty guitar to record a record with. It's like,
- 44:27Speaker 1: I'd rather not record the record, you know what I mean. Keeping.
- 44:31Speaker 1: The problem with Taylor's fishing right now is that he
- 44:33Speaker 1: lives ten steps away from a recording studio. So that's
- 44:37Speaker 1: Stevie ray Vant he cut his last record on And
- 44:40Speaker 1: I've just been learning how to use the board and
- 44:42Speaker 1: operate a system that is out of my league, and
- 44:46Speaker 1: it's it's a beautiful thing to like, I don't know
- 44:49Speaker 1: a lot of this musical journey has been like very
- 44:51Speaker 1: spiritual in the sense of like too good to be true,
- 44:53Speaker 1: ships always happening, And for a twenty four year old
- 44:56Speaker 1: to have complete access of a studio that Stevie ray
- 44:59Speaker 1: Vans sat there and touched the knobs and that was
- 45:01Speaker 1: his last record. He would die a year later, and
- 45:04Speaker 1: it was the most commercially successful record. It's like, um,
- 45:08Speaker 1: I don't know. It's to me. When I had that
- 45:10Speaker 1: studio this week, I was like, oh, man, I gotta
- 45:12Speaker 1: go to Montana. It's like then when I'm here, it's like,
- 45:14Speaker 1: I don't want to go back to Tennessee. So it's weird.
- 45:16Speaker 1: It's a weird headspace, you know. So if if this
- 45:20Speaker 1: launches your career and you get all famous, you still
- 45:22Speaker 1: come on the show. I don't know, man, We're gonna
- 45:25Speaker 1: be in Patagonia fishing a little bit, so we have
- 45:27Speaker 1: to make it mover. I've already got some connections down
- 45:31Speaker 1: there and been working on my Spanish. That's good. That's good.
- 45:44Speaker 1: We already carried up this this weird deal that um
- 45:46Speaker 1: you grew up watching, Yeah, Jared Outlaws, Dip Video Pack,
- 45:51Speaker 1: Dip Spit. Yeah, okay. Jared explained how, like, yeah, I
- 45:59Speaker 1: remember seeing the like a list of like early famous
- 46:03Speaker 1: YouTube people and you were on it. Yeah, how I
- 46:07Speaker 1: started back in two thousand and seven, Like YouTube basically
- 46:12Speaker 1: really started in like two thousand and it's like the
- 46:15Speaker 1: end of two thousand five, but it was still kind
- 46:16Speaker 1: of like a weird video chat dating site kind of
- 46:19Speaker 1: so yeah, a little bit, and you could do like
- 46:22Speaker 1: video responses and things like that. So a little bit
- 46:27Speaker 1: before I'm like, and I would I give me a
- 46:31Speaker 1: little YouTube history. What was it? So it was like
- 46:34Speaker 1: a like a video response dating site. It's kind of
- 46:37Speaker 1: how like, well, I think what they did, I mean,
- 46:40Speaker 1: I don't know, Well, they went to a million different
- 46:43Speaker 1: things because they had this like broadcast yourself type of
- 46:46Speaker 1: platform where it was like what what works? Because you know,
- 46:50Speaker 1: Facebook was was starting to to to become bigger. My
- 46:53Speaker 1: Space was already big at that time, so they're trying
- 46:56Speaker 1: to Facebook was weird. It was like a way to vote,
- 46:58Speaker 1: like who was good looking at me? Yeah, it was
- 47:00Speaker 1: all just like vote up. Well, I mean you like
- 47:03Speaker 1: scroll through all the girls at college and give them
- 47:06Speaker 1: like a gay nay. Yeah. That shows you to kind
- 47:09Speaker 1: of like as much as they act now like um,
- 47:13Speaker 1: you know like oh we're helping the world. Yeah, it's
- 47:15Speaker 1: like you're really see in the mentality of people, like
- 47:17Speaker 1: and it makes people shallow, like you look at tender
- 47:20Speaker 1: or something, but now they all act like they're like
- 47:22Speaker 1: they're like diplomat. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, So I mean
- 47:26Speaker 1: it started as that and then you know you got
- 47:28Speaker 1: um at the very very beginning. It was kind of
- 47:31Speaker 1: just like people would upload like you know, they're like
- 47:34Speaker 1: funniest home videos, you know, like a FV back in
- 47:36Speaker 1: the day, So you'd see a lot of cat videos.
- 47:38Speaker 1: You remember, like the Charlie bit my finger. Yeah, that
- 47:42Speaker 1: was like that was like the YouTube's first like viral video.
- 47:45Speaker 1: And like keyboard cat back in the day. It was
- 47:47Speaker 1: like a cat playing a keyboard. Do you remember that
- 47:49Speaker 1: Charlie bit my finger. They found that Osama bin Laden's
- 47:53Speaker 1: hard drive on his computer was Charlie video that video.
- 48:01Speaker 1: That's a that's a random fact for you right there. Man.
- 48:06Speaker 1: I love that he was into that video. Wow huh.
- 48:12Speaker 1: But anyways, did you have me Jared's videos? I wish
- 48:20Speaker 1: that's funny. Well, yeah, so I started more How old
- 48:26Speaker 1: were you then? I was? I was I was like
- 48:29Speaker 1: fifteen No, I was sixteen, um when I first started.
- 48:34Speaker 1: And like I said, like, were you trying to use
- 48:35Speaker 1: it for dating? No? No, no, that was before that
- 48:38Speaker 1: was like when they first started like two o five
- 48:41Speaker 1: and um. And I was big. So when I was younger,
- 48:43Speaker 1: I was big into acting and anything I could do,
- 48:46Speaker 1: like to like just entertain people, Like no, matter if
- 48:50Speaker 1: it was like like if my mom was like watching
- 48:53Speaker 1: the news, I'd be like I could do that. I
- 48:55Speaker 1: could do that. I'm gonna do it. So I would
- 48:57Speaker 1: get be a newscast yeah whatever. It was like, I
- 49:00Speaker 1: just wanted to entertain over to you, Dave, yeah, and
- 49:04Speaker 1: so I would just uh, I would just kind of
- 49:07Speaker 1: make these skits and sketches and things like that. But
- 49:10Speaker 1: I remember I did one mostly comedy, Yeah, mostly comedy stuff.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Because back in the day, like now you have what
- 49:15Speaker 1: you call a vlog, which is like you just you know,
- 49:19Speaker 1: you just feel in their use that term anymore. Yeah, yeah,
- 49:22Speaker 1: they still use it. Um. I mean, I guess you
- 49:25Speaker 1: just say video now, but like everybody's a vlog er
- 49:27Speaker 1: now seems like they do it on their Instagram and
- 49:29Speaker 1: all that. But back in the day, that's it wasn't
- 49:32Speaker 1: even around yet. So the biggest things on YouTube were
- 49:35Speaker 1: like or that they're started to become channels that would
- 49:38Speaker 1: get bigger and get more subscribers, and like they would
- 49:41Speaker 1: just start making sketches or skits. They were like two
- 49:43Speaker 1: to three minutes long and kind of like uh, like
- 49:48Speaker 1: an old sketch sketch comedy show that you would see
- 49:50Speaker 1: on Comedy Central or something like that. It was like
- 49:52Speaker 1: on YouTube, but you would get more of it because
- 49:54Speaker 1: it was like normal people like us sitting in this
- 49:57Speaker 1: room doing it, you know. And so when I first started,
- 50:01Speaker 1: the most popular I think it was like Smash or
- 50:06Speaker 1: this girl Lisa Nova, they had like twenty thousand subscribers
- 50:09Speaker 1: and that was the most number. That was the biggest
- 50:12Speaker 1: YouTuber in the world. And I couldn't even believe it.
- 50:15Speaker 1: I was like, they could fill up an arena their audience.
- 50:19Speaker 1: This is insane. And then you couldn't even make money
- 50:21Speaker 1: on YouTube. They but these aren't like people who are
- 50:24Speaker 1: in like total rednecks ship right, No, no, no, I
- 50:26Speaker 1: was the only dude. Probably you're like, okay, we can
- 50:30Speaker 1: keep telling the story. We'll get there. I mean there
- 50:31Speaker 1: was there was not. There was probably like around a
- 50:34Speaker 1: thousand people that like even made like actual content. I
- 50:40Speaker 1: just did it because I like doing it, and I
- 50:42Speaker 1: would just do whatever I wanted to do, even if
- 50:44Speaker 1: you know, a hundred people would watch. And so then um,
- 50:48Speaker 1: and then they like two thousand and uh. I don't know.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Before that, I made like a hunting video and I
- 50:56Speaker 1: had to dip in because I was dipping at the time,
- 50:58Speaker 1: and like everybody, what were you, like, what was the
- 51:01Speaker 1: hunting video? I can't even remember. It was something like
- 51:04Speaker 1: and you were living where I was living in Colorado.
- 51:07Speaker 1: I was. I went to high school in Colorado, right
- 51:09Speaker 1: outside of Denver, and uh, and we were like hunting
- 51:13Speaker 1: these fake dear in my front yard that we had
- 51:15Speaker 1: like these little like statue dear. This is like a comedy, yeah,
- 51:19Speaker 1: like a sketch video. Yeah, and uh and back at this,
- 51:22Speaker 1: I mean this is before you could even really do editing.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Like Windows Movie Maker had just come out and I
- 51:27Speaker 1: had it on my uh at our computer, and so
- 51:30Speaker 1: I would like try to like, you know, you would
- 51:32Speaker 1: quit cut. That's about all you could do. There was
- 51:34Speaker 1: no transitions or anything like that. So I try to
- 51:37Speaker 1: try to do all the editing in camera before we
- 51:39Speaker 1: would you know, post it and me and it took me.
- 51:42Speaker 1: I made videos for years, like ever since I was
- 51:43Speaker 1: a kid, but I just didn't know how to post it. Um.
- 51:46Speaker 1: You know, you gotta like hook your camera. If I
- 51:48Speaker 1: had one of those giant vhs like you put the
- 51:50Speaker 1: whole VHS tape in the in the side, I had
- 51:52Speaker 1: one of those, and uh, but but Yeah, I had
- 51:55Speaker 1: to dip in and everybody was like, what are you dipping? Man?
- 51:59Speaker 1: And I'm were you dipping at that time? Um? Probably
- 52:03Speaker 1: Copenhagen when you were young. Yeah, I was sixteen. It's
- 52:07Speaker 1: about the time I found it. I started watching his videos,
- 52:11Speaker 1: also different Copenhagen. Yeah, I like the Copenhagen Winter Green
- 52:16Speaker 1: and the straight That was my thing until you know,
- 52:20Speaker 1: we started sound checking. You guys remember the Copenhagen black
- 52:25Speaker 1: heartburn like every time? Yeah, yeah, they do that. They
- 52:29Speaker 1: used to do it seasonally and now they kind of
- 52:31Speaker 1: cut back on it. But the back in the day
- 52:33Speaker 1: it was. It was around for a while. It was good.
- 52:35Speaker 1: I think they came out with that two down six
- 52:37Speaker 1: or something. I think one of my favorite videos from
- 52:39Speaker 1: yours off the top of my head from back then,
- 52:41Speaker 1: it's not like you were one, was the one where
- 52:44Speaker 1: you caught that snapping turtle with the floating milk Joe. Yeah. Yeah,
- 52:48Speaker 1: because I would I would do like I never attended
- 52:51Speaker 1: to just do like videos on DIT No, you were
- 52:54Speaker 1: doing activities. Yeah, I was just doing I was just
- 52:56Speaker 1: filming whatever. But did you have early on, like in
- 52:59Speaker 1: the old days, did you have a preference to do
- 53:02Speaker 1: hunting and fishing stuff or did you like I did whatever?
- 53:06Speaker 1: Like I did whatever, like I felt like and I'm
- 53:08Speaker 1: I'm all over the place. So one day I'm like
- 53:11Speaker 1: super into hunting and the next day I'm like super
- 53:14Speaker 1: into my wife or something. So you guys are having
- 53:21Speaker 1: a baby, Yeah we are. Yeah, yeah, we're having a
- 53:23Speaker 1: baby coming soon. I saw on Instagram. What were you
- 53:27Speaker 1: guys doing that? You were shooting something to find out
- 53:29Speaker 1: what it was? Yeah, I took I had a deer target,
- 53:32Speaker 1: and so I ripped one of the antlers off, like
- 53:35Speaker 1: and we just put a buck or dough over it
- 53:37Speaker 1: and we put a big old balloon, taped it to
- 53:39Speaker 1: the year's target and both shot it. Well who rigged
- 53:42Speaker 1: it up? Uh me? I think I think I just
- 53:46Speaker 1: knew the answer. No, no, no, no, the balloon thing
- 53:49Speaker 1: now with somebody else, somebody Yeah yeah, yeah, somebody got it.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Uh my wife like drop it off like party America
- 53:56Speaker 1: or something, and yeah, and they did. Yeah yeah, but
- 53:59Speaker 1: we we had to take Yeah we did that with
- 54:01Speaker 1: a cake one time and shooting nothing. Just yeah. They
- 54:04Speaker 1: do whole They do everything, man, not just balloons. They
- 54:06Speaker 1: need cakes and and you know all types of stuff
- 54:09Speaker 1: that guy that had they had a gender See. When
- 54:12Speaker 1: I first heard about a gender reveal party, I didn't
- 54:15Speaker 1: know what it meant. My mind went to, um, like
- 54:19Speaker 1: someone transitioning, That's what I thought it meant. It was
- 54:23Speaker 1: like a party if you transition. I thought it was
- 54:26Speaker 1: like when you Yeah, I like, it's like when you
- 54:30Speaker 1: are like official, you officially and then you have a party,
- 54:33Speaker 1: which would be great party. The guy I could imagine
- 54:36Speaker 1: partying about that. But yeah, then I realized it's just
- 54:40Speaker 1: about babies. But the guy that, uh, they had a
- 54:43Speaker 1: gender reveal party, and they had like a tanner right target.
- 54:47Speaker 1: They have blue smoke or pink smoke. Yeah, started a
- 54:50Speaker 1: big gass forest fire. They just got a massive fine
- 54:53Speaker 1: man restitution for the whole damn fire. You know, I couldn't.
- 54:56Speaker 1: It's like where I live, it's just like out here
- 54:58Speaker 1: man breaks of smoke everywhere. Can't like a match. What's
- 55:02Speaker 1: the snapping turtle? Oh? Yeah? So I used to live
- 55:06Speaker 1: in Kentucky and um, are you born? I was born
- 55:09Speaker 1: in Florida. I lived in everywhere so um, from Florida
- 55:12Speaker 1: to Alaska. Um, I've lived all over the place, but
- 55:15Speaker 1: I lived in I would live in Kentucky for four
- 55:17Speaker 1: or five years out of her sales, which is kind
- 55:18Speaker 1: of where all the bourbon and stuff. Oh yeah, I
- 55:22Speaker 1: love her sales. So I lived on like a three
- 55:24Speaker 1: fifty acre farm out there, and we had to farm
- 55:27Speaker 1: ponds and we had a whole bunch of snapping turtles
- 55:29Speaker 1: in it. And this is before like nobody was making
- 55:32Speaker 1: hunting stuff on YouTube. So I was doing just what
- 55:35Speaker 1: I was doing every day, and I was like, well,
- 55:37Speaker 1: I might as well just film it. And so I
- 55:39Speaker 1: did a video called I can't even believe still on there, honestly,
- 55:42Speaker 1: but it's called how to Clean a Snapping Petal. In
- 55:44Speaker 1: the first ten sexes be shooting the head with the
- 55:46Speaker 1: twenty two, and everybody's like, I thought this was how
- 55:50Speaker 1: to clean a turtle? Ting like what is going on?
- 55:55Speaker 1: And uh, people may yeah. So I was. I was
- 56:00Speaker 1: probably twenty two maybe at that time, or twenty three,
- 56:03Speaker 1: and and so I would just like, you know, back
- 56:06Speaker 1: in the day, I didn't know what to do. There
- 56:08Speaker 1: was no like, there was no avenue, so you just
- 56:10Speaker 1: did whatever. So cleaning a snapping turtle or and it
- 56:14Speaker 1: made some of your best probably stuff, you know what
- 56:16Speaker 1: I mean. That's the way I look at my early stuff,
- 56:18Speaker 1: it's like before you knew what you were, you know,
- 56:21Speaker 1: It's like that's the unfiltered, you know, good stuff when
- 56:26Speaker 1: you're throwing ship at the wall. You know. Hey, uh,
- 56:29Speaker 1: when you were doing you weren't making any money early
- 56:33Speaker 1: on from YouTube. Now you couldn't even make money on YouTube.
- 56:35Speaker 1: I think I did YouTube for like five years before
- 56:37Speaker 1: you could even make money before they turned that on.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I think it was like two thousand ten or something
- 56:43Speaker 1: when they when it came out, was saying that they
- 56:45Speaker 1: were going to do it. Uh. I think I was
- 56:47Speaker 1: in Alaska actually, and they announced that they were going
- 56:50Speaker 1: to do this partner program where Google was going to
- 56:52Speaker 1: run ads in your videos and you can make money.
- 56:54Speaker 1: And it was like they kind of like remember the
- 56:56Speaker 1: email I got about it, like you're entered because I
- 56:59Speaker 1: already had like an audience, and so I was like what,
- 57:03Speaker 1: oh my gosh, And then it got my mind like
- 57:04Speaker 1: I never thought that I could, you know, do something
- 57:07Speaker 1: like that as a job. I was like more of
- 57:10Speaker 1: hoping that maybe somebody from Hollywood would see my video
- 57:13Speaker 1: and shooting my head off a snapping turtle and would
- 57:18Speaker 1: it be an Avengers five? Um? So yeah, I h
- 57:25Speaker 1: they they just you know, two thousand tennishes. Whenever that
- 57:28Speaker 1: you could start making money on it. And then then
- 57:30Speaker 1: it like then everybody wanted to be a you know,
- 57:33Speaker 1: a YouTuber, so and it got more it got more
- 57:36Speaker 1: like business like then. That's whenever you started seeing it
- 57:40Speaker 1: wasn't that it like the fun one away, but it
- 57:42Speaker 1: was like it was really about community back in the day,
- 57:45Speaker 1: like on YouTube, like you would you would have like
- 57:50Speaker 1: twenty thirty different other channels that would watch you, and
- 57:53Speaker 1: they would always like every time your video uploaded, they
- 57:55Speaker 1: would they would comment like good vid, awesome vid man,
- 57:59Speaker 1: you know, like all the video producers. Yeah, like other
- 58:01Speaker 1: other people that you would know, because it was a
- 58:04Speaker 1: really small community. And then once you know, you can
- 58:06Speaker 1: started making money on it, everybody kind of turned it
- 58:08Speaker 1: into like it was like a business almost, and you
- 58:11Speaker 1: know it was like and I mean I did too.
- 58:13Speaker 1: I I went with the times, but it was it's
- 58:16Speaker 1: it was a complete change from what it used to be.
- 58:18Speaker 1: And it's crazy that I've almost have been doing it
- 58:20Speaker 1: fifteen years now. Do you still regard yourself that way,
- 58:24Speaker 1: like as a YouTuber kind of because it's just like
- 58:27Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not embarrassed by it. Some people are like, oh, yeah,
- 58:30Speaker 1: I'm a YouTuber, I do like how to videos or whatever,
- 58:33Speaker 1: but I mean it's what I do. Like what's your
- 58:35Speaker 1: output as far as like how many? How many set
- 58:39Speaker 1: in your head like, yeah, I used to I used
- 58:41Speaker 1: to upload every day when you were watching. I used
- 58:43Speaker 1: to upload every single day. I think I did it
- 58:45Speaker 1: for two years straight, so like six eight videos or
- 58:49Speaker 1: something in a row every single day. So if people
- 58:51Speaker 1: are binging, they're always like they're looking for that next
- 58:54Speaker 1: and that's that's hard. I mean it's hard. I mean,
- 58:56Speaker 1: you live your life a whole completely different way. I
- 58:58Speaker 1: was secluded out there in the nowhere, so it was
- 59:01Speaker 1: like every day it was like something new, trying to
- 59:04Speaker 1: create some type of new content for people. And that's
- 59:06Speaker 1: whenever I kind of like, probably when you've found me,
- 59:09Speaker 1: it's kind of when I started, uh, getting a little
- 59:12Speaker 1: bit bigger and um just because you get you know,
- 59:15Speaker 1: putting the work into it, because I mean, the biggest
- 59:17Speaker 1: thing about doing YouTube is consistency and in the same
- 59:22Speaker 1: type of thing. So now it's a little bit different
- 59:23Speaker 1: where it's all about algorithms and stuff like that. Back
- 59:26Speaker 1: in the day. It was kind of just like, well,
- 59:27Speaker 1: if I find this guy, I'm just gonna keep watching it. So,
- 59:29Speaker 1: you know, YouTube kind of puts things in front of
- 59:31Speaker 1: your face, now if you're consistent. So and it was like,
- 59:34Speaker 1: when you're doing all that early on, what percentage of
- 59:36Speaker 1: your stuff was related to the outdoors? Uh's I don't know,
- 59:43Speaker 1: probably se I mean everybody who pretty much. Um Like,
- 59:48Speaker 1: even if it was like a video about dip, it
- 59:51Speaker 1: wasn't just like me reviewing the dip. It was like
- 59:53Speaker 1: it was like a variety show. Like it was like
- 59:56Speaker 1: there was an intro, there was the Okay, I'm gonna
- 59:58Speaker 1: crack the can, I'm gonna put it in, and then
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: it's like then we're gonna go check in in the
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: deer stand and I'm like hunting that day, and so
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: like I lived a white tail hunt out of that farm,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: and so I'd give him like an update from the stand.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: All right, guys, what's up wearing the stand? I haven't
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: seen chip? All right, let's go back. You know, just
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: stupid crap like that that you watch nowadays and it's like, oh,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: that's been done twenty times, but you know, uh, that
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: was it was kind of always outdoor type of base
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: because it was kind of like my audience and that's
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: how I grew up. So because I grew I was
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: born in Florida and then I grew up in Branson, Missouri,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: so that's kind of where my dad was. My dad's
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: just a builder and um, so we moved a lot
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: when when I was a kid, and then I just
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: after when I graduated high school, I just became a
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: rambler and I was all over the place. So I
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: moved like eight times and eight years or something like that.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: So that was all over the place. So the aspect
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: of it being like um, like the tobacco and dipping,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: all that just came out because that's what people caught onto. Yeah,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: it was well, I was like I was a different myself,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: but I was always you know, especially like where I
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: lived in Kentucky, tobacco farms were very prevalent. You know,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: you're driving through Kentucky, especially like eastern Kentucky, you see
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: old male pouch barns and that Americana, Like it just
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: gets me. I love lady loses spitting, you know what
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: I mean. You got cleanex of stuff in there, and
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: it's like she looks like an old little kitty cat.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: She's dipping, you know what I mean. It's probably in
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: a bad movie too. Yeah. Yeah, but we love Eastern Kentucky.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Um I uh so I just became like in love
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: with like the Americana of it, the history of it
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: and and uh and how it was made and all
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: this kind of stuff, and then ended up, you know,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: coming out with my own give me uh hit me
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: with like a crash course on tobacco history. Okay, real
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: crash course. Um. Basically, uh, what was it when Christopher
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Columbus came to America at the West Indies? Yeah, and
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: so you know what did he think? He was in
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: China or something like that. Where where do you think
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: he landed? India? Okay, Um, so he comes somewhere new Yeah,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: but he gets Yeah, so he gets into the it
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: was the Caribbean, and um he meets the indigenous people.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: This is the first time. Um, they do a little trade. Basically,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: it's like here's some indigenous people give give Christopher Columbus
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: and his crew fruits, vegetables and these brown leaves, and
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: they understand what the fruits and vegetables are. They have
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: that over in Europe, but there they look at these
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: brown leaves and they're like, what the hell is this
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: smells like crap, just throw it away. Second time they
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: come back, they see the indigenous people smoking those brown
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: leaves and then some of Christopher Columbus guy starts to
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: try the stuff and they're like, what is this crazy? Right? Yeah,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: So so anyways, it was Christopher. It was basically Christopher
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: clumb Is coming over here and uh and within a
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: hundred years, I think it was by by six d.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: It was in every single country in the world within
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: a hundred years. Yeah, and so um all over the place,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: and obviously here in America we had it's very prevalent.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: And so you know over in Virginia, Virginia was our
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: main port for tobacco export. So when we would when
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: back in the day before uh, like in in the
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: seventeen hundreds, we had a m uh they would use Glasgow,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Scotland because that was the shortest the shortest boat ride
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: basically was from Virginia to Glasgow, Scotland, and so that's
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: where that was kind of like their traveling corridor was
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: between there and UM and Europe. Like was was everybody
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: everybody was was into this tobacco thing. And and the
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: indigenous people. The crazy thing was is they were already
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: smoking it, they were already chewing it, they were already
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: sniffing it. They were doing everything. And so when you
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: know what the hell it looked like, Like, what did
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: it look like before people started to cultivate it? What
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: do you mean? And it's wild form? Where do you
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: run into wild tobacco? Yeah, I don't know. I don't
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: know about that. Um, I know that there are many
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: different there are a number of different types or species
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: of tobacco, tobacco plant, tobacco leaf. There's a bush here
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: called tobacco brush. Huh, it's not tobacco. It's not tobacco. Okay,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: but I'm sure like places in Virginia and and Tobacco
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Road in North Carolina, that's a heavy spot. Yeah yeah,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky. I like to see it
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: in its wild state. Yeah. Yeah. We had a guy
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: and to show up, like a guy that works on
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: insects and plant evolution and whatnot. And he was talking
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: about tracking down like what corn came from, you know,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: like a grass, it's like a American grass. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: it's really interesting. Actually you say that because I want
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: to figure that out now. Um, and kind of like
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: see it like girl, I could imagine like seeing it
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: in the woods of Virginia, like like growing tobacco under
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: oak tree or something. Yeah, it might not even be
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: around anymore. Yeah, I don't know because the cold bars
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: right like uh, the wild turkey that have you looked
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: it up Chester? Well, it says it's native to southwestern
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: United States, Mexico and parts of South America. I mean
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: it goes back. Yeah, Messo America beyond six thousand years
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: probably found it the same way they found cocoa leaves,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: walked through the woods shoot stuff man. Yeah. So um,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: but it was like it blew up all over the place.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: And I mean there was all different types of of
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: use of it. Obviously, the smoking aspect of it was
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: was very popular. Um. And then like I don't remember
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: her name she was. I don't know if she was
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: a queen or something. It wasn't like the Queen of
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: England or something like that, but I think she was
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: from Sweden. And tobacco crushing tobacco leaves up and then
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: sniffing it was done by mostly women in the well no,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: because it was polite, Like why that because they didn't
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: want to do I don't know, I don't know, but
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: so I guess what they said is is it would
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: cure headaches and so yeah, so uh so mostly women,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: especially in Sweden. The reason I say Sweden is because
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: Sweden basically perfected the tobacco leaf when it came to
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: moist snuff, not as far as smoking, but when it
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: comes to like chewing it, dipping it. Nasal snuff, Sweden
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: like killed it is native snuff, powdered like dried leaf,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: powdered snuffy. Yeah, general, what's that is that nasal snuff? Okay?
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: So this is so and I brought some. So this
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: is open that top one, Steve, what do you mean
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: the top one just over the Yeah, that's that's that's
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: what you called a catch liad. Oh yeah, catch your
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: spent choosing there and it wasn't here. There's one Let
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: into that box real quick. What do you say? I
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: need to get it? So I want to talk at okay,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: I want to go with Krin's thing. So people snorted, Yeah,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: is it is it basically like dried? Yeah, it's dried. Yeah,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: you're doing cocaine. But it's a ground right you put
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: it right here in your snuff box. That's what you
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: call your snuff box. If you check this out, I
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: got a message for the listeners. Yeah, take your arm,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: how do you describe this? Make your arms straight? Yeah,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: make your arms straight so your arm and your hand
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: are straight and rigid. And then lift your thumb up
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: so it's pointing at the ceiling, and then cock your
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: right hand ever so counter clockwise, and you'll notice that
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: the base of your thumb shows up a little dimple,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: a crater, like almost at the wrist. Yeah. So that's
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: how you measure it out I call your snuff box. Yeah, okay,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: you put pulverized tobacco and riff it up your nose
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: and so you don't snort it. You don't snort it,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: you sniff it. So it's just like just like that.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: So just brought some of that in that. That would
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: have been great. But that's not popular that much anymore. No,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: it's not as popular now, but they still sell it.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: So um. That was yeah. And I mean you have
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: the Swedes like you smell you smell his general there.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: This is a Swedish snooze that's made in sweet and
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: now careful smelling this but just who where do you
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: get that? Jered, because I got something from I can't
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: tell if it smells a pneumonia or mint. Yeah, it's
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: does it taste like it smells? Dude? It So this
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: is a like a porta John Amazon jar. If you
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: put a cockroach and Amazon jar and toss that, they're guaranteed. Yeah.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: So that so there's a lot of different types of tobacco.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: When I talk about Sweden, how they kind of perfected it,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: and then over back in America, it's like we you
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: know it was discovered here, I said, sniff not yeah,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: cres Like if you give her like what happen when
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: you give someone with sobby but tell him something different
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: or something this christ so it's a little bit stronger.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: So this is do you taste the like, what's the
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: purpose of that moment? That's got to be. So this
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: is so that I'm telling you everybody over in Sweden
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: because snooze is actually illegal right now and you're or
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: in uh in the EU. So it's basically only like
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: like Norway and and in Finland and Sweden it's legal. Uh,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: They're they're working on getting it back now because you
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: know COVID and everything, people like you guys got to
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: stop smoking then they and they're like, oh, well this is,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: you know, safer, so we'll look into it. Basically is
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: what they're saying now. But Sweden perfected it as as this.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: This is snooze, So snooze. You don't have to spit
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: like you can put this is a pouch. They call
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: them portions over in Sweden. And so when you put
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: this in and they usually put them upper deck they
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: usually upper deck it, and upper deckers make a pecker better.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: So everybody, uh so you can do it at home
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: and be bigger, bigger. Sorry, yeah, I Stu'm gonna stop
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: doing that. And so you know, you throw one of
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: these and your in your top lip. Now this has
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: so Swedish snooze. There's a lot more nicktine than they
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: have an American it's snuff over here. So this is
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: like there's like twenty two milligrams and well are like
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: three millie what's like a ship? What's in a cigarette?
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Just for the sake of comparing, I don't know exactly,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: but probably around that to three to six. So um
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: so these are like that is like a that's like
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: remember rememberhen you're a kid. Remember jolt cola. Oh yeah,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: it's like the goal and this is this is mid
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: tier ammonia. Want again, but what was the booze? There's
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: no way on the planet would I mean, is that
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: or something ammonium like treating the leaf? Is it? What's
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: its purpose? So the thing about this is your This
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: is more about the nicktine. This just for addicts. This yeah,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: and now this is still tobacco. So there's all different
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: types of stuff out there. You have like just Nicktine
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: pouches now, which are huge. People do the zin and
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: the and uh and v low and arms and things
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, he's got one of them. It's got
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: sweedish words on the back. Yeah. On the front it
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: says thunder slip white dry thunder, and it's actually the
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: right thunder. This one's actually this one's actually Odin's um,
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: which is in here, which is and they have they
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: have other ones called They have one called Siberia, probably
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: because you know, it's a cold snooze and they because
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: it feels cold in your lip, which is like fifty milligrams,
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Is that like something mentally, it's very mentally. They have
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: different flavors. But but the I'm telling you the Swedes,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: like people over in Europe, they the nicotine level that
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: they all do over there is way bigger than we have.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: I had no idea because now, like I feel like
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: if you go to you know, in cities in South America,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: you kind of get a picture of what it used
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: to be was smoking. You can imagine what it used
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: to be like here in the fifties. Yeah, we're just
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: like everybody is always smoking, right ye, And it catches
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: you off guard because of how how much use is
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: just dropped off right here in the US. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: with there's so many different types of alternatives now vaping,
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: there's like the kind of like was like supposed to
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: be to sell everybody's it's like the devil now, man,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: I think big tobacco had something to do with that,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: you do a little bit, There's there's no way they
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: didn't in my opinion, there's just no way. Like the
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: research campaign, the people don't realize that basically, like tobacco
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: ran the world for a long time and it still
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: kind of does. Like I mean, when you're talking about
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: the biggest business in America and the world in general,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: it's it's still tobacco, like they got people on and uh,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: they coming off like creative people like tobacco. Well, tobacco
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: is I mean it's it's a stimulant, just like caffeineas
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: and it's obviously you know tobacco as as natural nicotine
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: in it. But it's um, it's a plant that everybody
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: you know, loves to enjoy. Not everybody, but a lot
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: of people love to enjoy. So you know what watching
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: them outlaw Josie Whales and he's got like the rope. Yeah,
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: that's twist tobacco and they take a chaw off tell
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: is that that's say it's like a plug or a
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: twist tobacco. But you know, chewing tobacco like Levi Garrett Redman,
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: you know that Like it's in back. So it's basically
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: that but dried together and they twist it together with
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: molasses and they can the molasses kind of keeps it
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: together well, and so it's like the actual plant the
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: leaves no no, no, so they stripped the leaves. Um
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: So like with with with American tobacco, like when you're
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: talking about like cope and egg in and uh and
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: and things in your dip um or or Levi, Garrett
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: red Man, things like that. You know, you're gonna strip
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: the leaves off the plant. Um, you're gonna put them
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: in your You're basically going to clean them up. You're
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: gonna hang him in a in a barn. You're gonna
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: put sawdust under it. You're gonna light to sawdust, and
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: you're gonna fire cure the tobacco makes it really dark leaf. Yeah,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: it's like a fire cure. Not all of them. Some
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: of them are air dried, some of them. There's there's
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: all different types of cures for for tobacco. Yeah, Like
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: cigars are done a different way. Smokeless tobacco has done
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: a different way sometimes like a dark dark, fire cured
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: dip like smokes tobacco. Um, you get that darker taste
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: in it. So it's like with fire. Yeah, it's smoke basically. Yeah.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: And so that you know, the biggest thing about like
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: cigarettes comparing it to dip is when you light up
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: a cigarette, you're burning the leaf. You're never burning a
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: smokeless tobacco leaf. That's what it's called smokes tobacco. So
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: when you're burning cigarette, you're I think it's something like
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: six thousand chemicals you're releasing with one cigarette with dip.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: It's so minimum that they don't ever they don't ever
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: even talk about it. It's so like there's there's no
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: you know, um, the t s n A levels are
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: completely different. T s n A is is like cancer
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: causing chemicals that are in tobacco that tobacco just naturally
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: has in it t sn A. T s n A
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: levels and smokes tobacco were so low that they never
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: talked about it. So like the American Cancer Society just
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: came out with a paper a couple of years ago,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: and they used to have it all the time because
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: big tobacco. There was like a war on tobacco for
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: a long time because people are going to cancer from
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: the cigarettes. You know, everybody smoked back in the sixties
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: and seventies like crazy, but it wasn't like really put
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: out there that it was bad for you. And then
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: and then you know, in the nineties, when everything started
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: getting a little bit more goody two shoes, everybody was like, Okay, yeah,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: this this this ain't good for you. I'm starting to
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: cough up along now I've been smoking for twenty years.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: So it started to get a little bit, you know,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: people were taking it a little bit more serious. That's
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: when smoke was tobacco got a little bit bigger. But
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: then because it was made by some of the same
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: big tobacco brands like Camel has their own and and
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Marbo they had very similar companies, they kind of pieced
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: it together. But the American Cancer Society, they just came
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: out with the thing a couple a couple of years ago.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: I think it was twenty nineteen. UM of the seventeen
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: like leading causes of cancer and smokes. Tobacco wasn't even
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: on a Cigarettes was on the top. There was like
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: it was like a city and hepatitis and all this stuff.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: It wasn't even on there. Now I've talked, I've I've
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: interviewed um a few doctors on this because I've been interested.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: You know, I've never had an issue. I take care
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: of my teeth, but I've never had an issue. UM,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I've seen gumer session and people. Never seen anybody or
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: hurt anybody, like getting actual cancer from dip. You know,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: always if we always hear about people getting lip can
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: I've always telling dirty's gonna get lip cancer. That's not true. No,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: that's just in TV. Yeah, yeah, I mean, I mean,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: I'm sure you know it might have happened. I don't know.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: I haven't heard it yet. But I've talked to this doctor.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: He's a I think he still is a professor at
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: the University of Louisville. His names Dr Radu. He's wrote
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: a book Is he in the Is he in the
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: back pocket? A big tobacco might be? He might be,
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: but he's but he's completely against cigarette companies, which is
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: the which is crazy because most of the cigarette companies
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: own these smokes tobacco companies. So I don't think so.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: But he wrote a book called How Smokeless Tobacco Can
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Save Your Life, and he basically just goes on about
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: how like he's been researching this for like thirty years
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: and he's never found that T S and A levels
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: and smokeless tobacco if you're not lighting it. He's like,
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: there's He's like, there's you have more of a like
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: you have the same amount of hurting your body is
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: putting sunflowers in your sunflower seeds. And the doctor told
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: my dad, you know, you gotta quit here, try these
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: pouches or whatever. So I was always doing the long
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: cut and I was like, why you did those pouches?
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: He was like, I never got it until it's like convenient,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I was in here, I've
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: already had a couple of dips. But if I'm here,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: I got stuff all over my face, you know what
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: I mean. It's like it's it's clean, and I get it.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: But though they put big old cancer warnings on the
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: back of the dip, that's a crazy So here's so like,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: here's let me say, I want to say, I want
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: to add one thing in. Yeah, smoke and killed all
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: four of my grandparents. My grandpa, my maternal grandfather, smoked
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: himself to death and took his wife down with him.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: And she needs smoke because she sat in the living
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: room with him for fifty years watched the smoke. Cigarettes
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: killed the both of them with lung cancer. And my
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: old man had and he quit. He had quit, and
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: he worked as assoff to quit, went to a hypnotist,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: tried everything. Eventually he made he gave ten to one
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: odds to anyone that would do it that he could
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: quit and and just made cash bets tend to one. Yeah,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: And that's how he quit because he was no way
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: going to pay out all that money. But you can't
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: second hand it. You can if you drink it. But
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: I didn't do it. I didn't do like enough to
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: get uh. I didn't do it enough, you know, I
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: think like these guys were saying too with the My
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: dentist said, no, this doesn't say anthing about cancer. Go ahead, dirt,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: that's this is not tobacco. Okay, okay, this is. But
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: my dentist said, uh, I mean, I haven't been for
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: a couple of years, but last time I went, and
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: he said, if you move it around, He's like, what
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: can cause lip cancer is the brasiveness, like you're saying
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: with sunflower seeds, but if you're dipping and you're switching
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: switching people get lip cancer, have a what you call
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: the thumb pocket. Yea, they have a snuff box in
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: their mouth. The brasiveness is where the cancer starts. But
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: if you're moving it around. The dentist told me, I'm
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: gonna go yeah. But when I'm super curious about, uh,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: are all the different ways that people cure create et cetera.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: Smokeless tobacco and then like regionally, like who choose what,
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: who dips what? Like that whole kind of So in uh,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: in Sweden, like I was talking about, they have snooze,
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: which they got that name from snuff over here um,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: and that's snort and tobacco. No, well so that's nasal snuff,
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: but like this is still considered snuff. Like this stuff
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: in your can. They call it everything, snuff, dip, chow,
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: chaw ub, whatever. There's so many names for it, but
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: but it's still all the same thing. You're just talking
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: about smokeless tobacco. So over in Sweden they have what
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: you call snooze um, which snooze in a long cut
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: form and didn't bring any but it's it's like a
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: very muddy texture, but it looks very similar to uh,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: to a long cut dip like this. And so what
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: um what they do different than what American companies will
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: do with theirs because American companies will will ferment theirs.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Which boys are they're packing? You guys can't you guys
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: can't be in this conversation. Which an alternative? We're gonna
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: sample soon they're doing an alternative? So which one is
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: that winter? That's good? Yeah, there's a lot of things
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: I want to try. That bourbon one or that peach one.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: But so you guys do it. You guys do it
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: tobacco alternatives right now. Yeah, so this is yeah, at
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: the time, this is my company outlaw, but the um
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: we're still talking about tobacco. So yeah, we haven't gotten
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: into the alternative. So so, uh, what the Swedes do
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: instead of fermenting the dip which in America they you know,
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: you've ever seen like a picture of an old tobacco
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: barn with the you know, tobacco leaves hand, Yeah, and
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: there's smoke coming out from the sawdust and I don't
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: know about that part. This is all new to me,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: the whole smoke in it thing. Yeah. Yeah, so it
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: just kind of makes me take a smoke fish. Yeah.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: They they like cure the tobacco with smoke, So that's
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: called fermenting. In Sweden. What they would do is they
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: they it's called a past it's pasteurization method, so it's
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: more of a steam cure, which they say, which that's
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: just their method of doing it, which is a whole
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: different way of of consuming it. But they sit like,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: with doing that method, you don't have to spit, it
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: doesn't really juice up, just put in that sweetish, you
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: just put the ammonia in there. Well, these boys done
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: here doing alternatives and you're doing the ammonia. I just
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: how many milligrams and nicotine will kill a man, and
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: it said like sixty here, so let me get three.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: There's no way I've done. The most I've ever done
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: I think was nearly nine. So I gotta I got
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: a buddy. We call him fat Boy, and maybe you should.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: We got a vengeables five vegebles like man like dip man.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: It's like a special power. No man, a nicktine could
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: kill freaking I would woof fans his ass. But the
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: bad guy's hiding in the dip shd. You're going there.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: But yeah, some Swedish hat fields and yeah, that Siberia
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: I was talking about earlier, which is like almost fifty
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: MILLI my buddy, fat Boy, he goes. He's like, you
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: won't do a full candidate, and so I was like,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: I'll do a full cannon. He's in your at one time. Yeah,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: And I looked up that stat you know, they're like,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: what's the nicktine overdose and it says like sixty And
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: I was like, I've done way more than sixty. Be
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: four so I just put the whole thing in my
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: mouth and I kept it in for like four minutes.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: I did it on a video And did you have
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: to use the restroom right away? After that? I never
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: threw up? What did your body do? Like? Increased heart rate?
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Increased heart started sweating? Like really bad? Just what your candor?
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: That's a little Yeah, what's wrong with the jug? Just
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: you too good for the jug? You don't want to
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: take someone else's jug. That's like, but how did you
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: manipulate your can there for that? I just popped a
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: hole in it? Yeah? Is that like an old dip triper?
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: You were a wrestler in high school? Right? Did you
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: guys dip to cut weight? I mean I didn't. Does
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: that work? But yeah, people do. When I was a kid, man,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: they you in high school, the guys on the rassling
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: team would put a garbage bag on the punch two
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: holes will hold for their head and a hold for
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: their arms. Put a garbage bag on. I could dip
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: and run around like that. That's how I started differing.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Spitting spitting and then wearing that garbage bag to sweat.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: I thought you and then you going to the fight.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: Then the fight you going to the fight, but never
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: felt better, never felt better. Appetite suppressing, isn't it? You said,
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: what appetite isn't an appetite suppressing? Yeah, yeah, it could be. Yeah,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: I can see that, but I think that's not the tobacco.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I think that's a nick team. You're talking about taking
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: that full? Can you guys remember the horse shoe there? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: I've seen him do many of those. Yeah you do,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: He's done the whole what's the most you've done? Like
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: two cans? Probably, and you didn't you just have small mouth.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: I can't do that. But there's some people, man that
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: they'll they'll just I mean back in the day on YouTube,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: I remember I would never do like the challenge type stuff,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: but like there was you know, remember the cinnamon challenge.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: This was way before that, and so everybody loved to
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: do this cinnamon challenge. Cinnamon challenge when you just put
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: a spoonful of cinnamon in your mouth and you try
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: to hold it anyway down and then there's like some bottom,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: some ice water on yourself or something like that. The
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: ice water challenge that was for that was for Yeah,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: there's a shoot, there's Oh speaking of confusing my sports stuff.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so my birthday is in February, but dirt
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: has brought me a birthday present and it's a dude.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: Uh slam dunk slam dunking. There's all there's an athlete
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: slam dunking in a basketball who says touchdown. I saw that.
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: This is like a custom a custom shirt for me
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: who's had a lot of problems with sports analogies. Doesn't
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: stuff you want to do them, that's gonna mess. So
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: when I got to make a reference to a sports player,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: I'll be like, uh, Ridge Perry, that's the only guy
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: I can think of. You know are people now? I
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: got Pete Alonzo, Yeah, I know him, so I like
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: watching him play. Aren't all the tobacco companies for the
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: most part, like Copenhagen, Grizzly Skull, Aren't they all owned
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: by the same company. Uh so copenag his Skull, Um
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Red Seal, They're all own by the same company. It's
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: all us Smokeless and they are owned by out Tria,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: which out Tria owns a bunch of day Bone. Everybody. Well,
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: it's like the big like smoking company. Philip Morris, Yeah,
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: they don't. They're not. They didn't throw down on dip
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Philip Morris. Yah that Philip Morris has dip. Yeah. Pretty
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: much all the big like cigarette companies that you can
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: think of, they didn't think to get into it. Yeah,
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: and they're pretty much all owned like by somebody bigger
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: that has a branch out of smokeless tobacco and cigarette tobacco.
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: A lot of these companies will roll their cigarettes and
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: make dip in the same manufacturing units. So do you
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: rub elbows with them? Boys with outlaut dip? Uh? Like
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: Philip I used to back in the day, I used
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: to um. I used to be ambassador for a lot
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: of people stokers. Was in a massador for copenag and
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I did a lot of stuff for Really, you were
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: a chebacco Wars missing up Star Wars and chewing tobacco.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: We've already got our movie. Chebacco a good movie man
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: like Star Wars tobacco. Yeah, chewbacco. It was like wullie
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: guy that needs to get some do So. I had
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: a buddy in high school that on the can of
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: Copenhagen Winter Green And you can correct me if I'm
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: wrong here, but I believe he was telling the truth.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: He said that was in our family's line, Waymond Copenhagen,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: and his last name was Wymon. That is that w
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: e y Yeah, okay, interesting, yes, uh so Waymon George
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: Wyman is his name. He's the one shout out to
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Nick Wyman, Nick, Whyman, I'm interested, that's cool, that's cool
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: to South Carolina. He showed me on the can the
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: w C. That's kind of like reading a dollar bill.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: You don't realize like, oh, that's on a dollar bill,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: and he's like, that's my grandfather somebody's initials. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: So when people look at like a copen egg and
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: can it said, you know, most people would be like,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: there's like a WC on there. C W they see
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: so that stands for Wayman's copening and which George Wyman
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: was kind of like the first guy who's started doing it.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: My buddy Ronnie, who's who's bound on the show. Uh
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: quite a few times over the years. He had He's
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: got a lot of quotes. He's the one that introduced
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: me to the idea that you should never wear a
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: hat that has more personality than you do. Sound advice.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: So I should take your first light hat off. No,
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: that's not a person there. His hat doesn't have more
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: It's a awfully filthy hat. It matches the wear. Yeah,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: we don't wear a hat that has more personality than
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: you do. I think it's kind of advice against like
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: the wrong person getting the cowboy hat. Yeah, like I
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: have no business. Yeah yeah, if you ever see me
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: in a cowboy I would like you to ask me
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: to remove it. Okay, but you rocked a beaver hat
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: for sure. Oh I wear yeah, dude, I wear I
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: wear a fur I wear a beaver fur hat because
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: I grew up as a trapper. I got to your
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: right to have a beaver hat. It's a northern you know,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: like northern symbol. Yeah, that's not more personality. No, No,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: I was like, I had no business in the stats,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: and uh Ronnie also said I can't. He said, both
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: of these are one of these. He said, if your
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: dad's your best friend, you ain't got any friends. Or
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: he said, if your wife's your best friend, you ain't
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: got any friends. I can't remember he either said both.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: I know he said one, but when me and my
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: buddies talked about like, no, that's not what he said.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: He said. He might have said both. It might just
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: be a thing. So he told me the difference betweens.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Like he's like, he doesn't like smoker. He started, it's
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: kind of weird he started smoking, but he didn't historically
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: didn't like smokers because they don't they can't do anything right,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: he said the tour. A guy that dips probably has
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: the work with his hands. Yeah, and like he always
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: used to feel, there's nothing more useless than a smoker
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: because he's got to do everything one hand all time.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: But a guy that dips probably works. And that's where
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: you see most of it, especially in America at least construction.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: You know, yeah, that's about like who you know, rural
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: urban divide, like what who's doing what? Who's doing what?
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: Kind like is it regional? Is it? You know? Yeah?
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: I think well definitely, like uh, smokeless tobacco like this,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: you know, this dip stuff here that's pretty much big
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: all over here, like in America, that's about it. Over
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: in Sweden and things like that, they'd have the portions
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: like I gave you there, that's a that's just great. Yeah,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: and then you got they have loose snooze, which is
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: very similar similar to this, but it's it's different like
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: it's it's more of a tobacco taste than than we
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: you know, like this one's this is one of our
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: sweet tea flavors. So it's like we we can basically
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: flavor whatever we want, and over there it's a lot different.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: But like this type of stuff here is is basically
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: just in and it's not even in rural America anymore.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: A lot of people that used to be smokers and
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: stuff here they're getting onto the nicotine patches like those
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: zins and and things like that. But um, as far
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: as there's smoking version of alternatives, yeah, what was that
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: wild back American spirits which were but it doesn't have
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: any like additives or yeah. And then they had the
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: electronic cigarettes, which yeah, you're right, yeah, that's yeah, you're right. Yeah,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: I was thinking about that. Yeah, and then vape I
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: guess considered that too, But it's just it's just a
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: little bit different because there's no I mean, yeah, I
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: guess it is the same. You know. That's a that's
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: a that's a good correlation, like alternative tobacco or alternative
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: tobacco tins dip being like when people had like e
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: cigarettes and I to save the lungs, frock the guns
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: that Steve did you ever did when you were working
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: for ron No, dude. But here's the thing. Any of
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: this I mean, oh yeah, I had no no, never seriously,
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: so I've never took you took one of my schools
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: in Arkansas at the campfire? How long did I have it? For?
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: About five minutes maybe four? So Ronnie when I worked
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: for him, they he That's when I found out about
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: the snorts stuff and took a rip of that about
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: blew my head off. That was also when the first
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: time I tried horse meat. Ronnie had a can of
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: ground up horse meat. I still had the bone chunks
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: in it. Isn't Ronnie Chain smoking cigars now, So this
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: is partly so we're like when I worked for Ronnie,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: that was like a whole education and like tobacco products
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: again because he's a millwright. So all the guys that
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: worked for him are all like a Lottam addicted to
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: booze lotm addicted to dip. Ronnie he wasn't then he
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: became because he got in like he started smoking cigars
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: like a gentleman. He started getting like he like I
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: can see that guys going the other direction, like a gentleman,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: he'd like smoke a cigar with the boys. The next
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: thing you know, he's chained smoking him. Yeah. I think
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: that is something through to your question. Current for me tobacco,
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: when I got started into it was the camaraderie like
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: co workers at the rancher, my uncles and dad. It's
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: like you at the end of the day or at lunch,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: you'd like, I'll have a dip together. Yeah. Dirt was
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: born on a cattle ranch, and he was saying that
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: when when you got you could shoot parade, what the
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: hell was it? I said that at headquarters they had
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: the essentials at their store, so that we were like
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: an hour from like a small last town, you know.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: But at at the ranch headquarters, you could you could
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: just grab a box twenty two shows or Copenhagen snuffcannon.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: It would just be taking off your pay for that bullets. Yeah,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: that was the two things they had in the store. Yeah,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: that's my kind of store. Wait, so when you tried
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: it around the campfire, did you go through the ritual vomit? No,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: because here's let me give my full tobacco history. Uh,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: my man smoked for a long time. So when my
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: old man was in the war and oneth off the war,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: like in World War Two, they gave you cigarettes. Your
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: sea ration would come with three cigarettes inside of it.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: They also he was staying, so he got queued up
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: in North Africa, and then they went down to invade
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Italy at Anzio beach hat but they all just got
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: rat holed away in North Africa while they're getting ready
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: to do the to start doing all the beach invasions,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: and he got into a kind of a nasty business
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: where they would take cartons. The North Africans wanted American cigarettes,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: so they would take cartons of cigarettes, take all the
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: packs out, pack it full of sawdust to get the
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: right haft, put two packs on the end, and sell
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: them out of the trains because people are jones and
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: so bad for American cigarettes. And you'd kind of hold
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: it out, take the money and then hand them the thing.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: And you want to get into two packs and there's
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: a carton. So he got into that racket, he used
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: to explain to me, but worked very very hard to
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: quit smoking, so he would have beaten my ass back. Okay,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: let me give you example how bad this dude. I
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: should find this guy to write him a letter of apology.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Our neighbors had some cousin or something got out of
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: the Marine Corps come to live with him. His name
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: was John. I'm not gonna give his last name, j
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: O n no h. He was. He was a bad
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: smoker and uh real bad smoker. Remember, ran around of
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: cowboy boots. But anyways, around the time he started living
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: there and smoking and everything, just coming out of the
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: Marine Corps, we got onto smoking corn silks rolled up
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: in newsprint, and we got caught smoking corn silks rolled
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: up a new sprint out in the woods. And my
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: old man promptly went over there and blamed the dude
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: out of the Marine Corps for it and gave him
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: an asked you and blame with this had nothing to
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: do with it, right. So a lot of like like
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: various like tobacco interactions. In fifth grade, we're making agricultural
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: maps where you had to glue the agricultural product onto
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: a map. Okay, so the Midwest glue some corn someone
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: down there had for some reason, someone brought in tobacco
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: and fifth grade me and Stanley Johnson ate a bunch
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: of it. They had to call our moms I was.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: I was. I'm not kidding. I was, honest to God
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: having hallucinations. I was unbelievably sick. How much did you
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: guys eat? I don't remember how in fifth grade I
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: took it out in the playground, trying to pretend that
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: we knew that it was like a thing to do,
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: that you're supposed to eat it, and we ate it out.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Josie Way, I was spitting on his dog, and oh, yeah,
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: we knew all that. Yeah, Buzzard's got the same as worms,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: like all that rolling around our heads and so sick.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: I was, honest to God hallucinating. So I think that
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: those sets of experiences nothing to do with my dad
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: conning Arabs out of that. But like all the other stuff,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: UM was never into it. Now. The one positive experience
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: I've had with tobacco but I didn't do because I
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: don't want to become I don't want to become an
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: addict is uh Um. Down in New Mexico. One of
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: my friends had like some kind and he pours bourbon
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: and romans something I don't want to name him. Mike Rule,
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: I think, opens the bag up and pour some booze
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: in there. Bag opens his chewbag up dumps booze in it. Ye. Wait, Jared,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: do you have a bourbon or something flavored? Yeah, we
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: got this yellow bland which is pineapple room smell that one.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: You crack it open, Steve. When I says pack, dip,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: spit and joy, Steve, will you try something with me?
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: This is this isn't this is yeah, this is the
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: pac of free. They're still nicetine in it, but there's
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: no tobacco, huh, Steve. When I was guiding back in
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: the day, some guy gave me a cigar speaking of like,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: I can't work with smoking this cuban cigar. And I
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: was like eighteen, and I felt real bad if I
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: didn't finish this thing. So I was rolling down the
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: river with this cuban in my mouth, telling him the
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: cast left, tell him the cast right, with this giant cuban,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: and he was. It was like a celebratory cigar for
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: catching a big fish. About ten minutes in of rowing
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: with the cigar in my mouth, ended up puking all
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: over the christ You did yeah, And that that day
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: I did yeah. And I had to switch to uh
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: switch chewing, you know, after that, just because there's too
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: much smoke so work working man, Yeah, for sure, too much.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: I got a really bad tobacco experience. We went to
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: see Stepping Wolf, Commander Cody and Head East all in
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: concert and had some King eddies. I remember everybody getting
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: sick of puking off those king eddies, Like, what's what's
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: a king eddie? Oh? Those like ones you get at
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: the gas station. Ye, yeah, that's sick from that. Yeah.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I celebrated my high school graduation with some cheap ass
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: cigar and then I turned green, got real sick through
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: up everywhere, and that was still smoked some cigars since
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: But this what did you throw one in already? No?
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: I didn't because I'm not sure if I want this
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Georgia piece. Yeah, I'll go yet, all right, I think
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: are you afraid of puken? I mean, I'll probably leave
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: it in for a short amount of time before I
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: start to get dizzy. I'm really sensitive to nicotine. So
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: keep keep walking me through how you got into this? Then,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: so you eventually wanted to quit? No, no, no, no,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: I never wanted to quit. Chesters trying to quit, well,
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: chesters trying to quit, dirt quit quitting. Yeah, I got
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: a big box. I hit here for you. We were
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: in South America, and here here's how Dirt was gonna quit.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: We're in the jungle. Okay, I can see. I'm so
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: abs pure to I don't I need a lesson of
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: how to do this. Dirt brought to South America with him.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: He brought a kind of true he does not like,
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: and it was gonna be how it was. This is
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: his quit plan. What kind did you bring? I think? Yeah,
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: I think it was like I was in no grizzly.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Well it was grizzly, but like wintering green or something. Okay,
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: broad a kind you didn't like. That's a that's a
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: big one. Okay, wait I should pinch off a much
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: smaller amount. I was gonna say. I told Steve this
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: in Arkansas. If you don't, you're small of a dip.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: Do you end up swallowing it and get it? Do
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: you ever know anybody that gets addicted to the alternative
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: or is it always go the other direction? Well this
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: has nicotine in it. What I'm saying, no one ever
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: like didn't dip but then got alternatives and got hooked
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: on alternative for sure. I think the Zans are a
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: great example. Yeah, so like Zan's are a great example.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: Like you said, they're just it's just nicotine, salt and powder,
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: just water and that's about it. In a in a pouch,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: starts on it. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I know
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: a handful of in my mind thinking about now, handful
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: of women, women who never I'm messing this up. I
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: can't even practice. I'm taking mind out. I'm scared. So
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: you're doing it like the Swedish way. Now you got
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: it in your palm. That's called bacon a prilla. Okay,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: so I'm doing that. Whatever you just said. It's a
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: wrap song right there in a prilla. Already got my nose,
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: got too scared. That's perfect, that's perfect. I'm not gonna okay.
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: And then the upper lip or the lower lip, it
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: doesn't really matter. Lower like like to one side. Put
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: it just put it right, Steve like mouth that was,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I'll start to hallucinate. Me and Stanley Johnson. We're back
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: in fifth grade on the playground. Man, I was gonna
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: have a while. I was hallucination. Just put it right
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: to scar the side, right on your canine. My grandpa
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: always called it wormed or like growing up as a shirtman,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: some coming. It's super fine. That was impossible that I
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: got buzz that quick. Yeah, yeah, I swear I got
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: a buzz. So we we got the same amount of nicktaine.
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: It's in like coping. I he grizzly and this stuff
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: you had killer vanniller. Do you like the flavor? Though?
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: I love nice cream. I chewed up and eat it.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Look good, looks No, this is a little kind of
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: blue the whole day. And I should I should spit
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: off in so I don't. Yeah, I mean like when
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: you when you start to feel it, juice up. That's
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: just spit it right and in the job. So it's
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: not tobacco. No, it's not tobacco. What is this? This
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: is our is our own blends. So a lot of
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: other companies that are do uh alternatives. They use mint leaf,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: which is very similar, but mint leaf, if you flavor
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: ment leaf, it just still tastes like mint. So they'll
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: come out with like a bourbon mint leaf, but it's
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: still just tastes like mint, and you don't want bourbon
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: and mint mixed together. Some companies will use corn silk,
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: which no flavor really gets into that. Yeah, it's just
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: it's it's not they kind of just sit on the
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: shelves in the gas station. Nobody really likes them, you know.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: And so we we used uh we basically sourced the
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: world for years on trying to find the best leaf
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: and we found a tea leaf that we love and
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: um and that we are process of making. This is
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: more we basically do more than tobacco companies will do
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: with their dip with this. And like if you'll notice
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: our dip, like when you have it in, it's it's
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: got more robust flavor than a lot of tobaccos because
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: you don't the tobacco is almost a little bitter when
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: it comes to a dip, and so ours, like for instance,
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: this root beer, we got one called Rambling root beer.
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: I mean that thing just tastes like straight up like
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: barks root beer, mug root beer. Um, so yeah, it's
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: it's uh, it's doing really well. But the biggest thing
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: is we just wanted to put something out there that
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: didn't suck, because every tobacco alternative I ever tried was horrible.
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: It was just like it made you. I mean, it
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: probably helped you quit because you just didn't want to
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: do it anymore, or you would just go right back
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: to dipping grizzly or copening. So I ought until Dirt's
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: quit and plan. Oh yeah, I went to South America
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: with a bad kind he it like, and chewed the
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: ship out of it. Well. His plan was since he
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: didn't like it, he wouldn't burn through it, and once
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: it was gone, he was gonna come back to America
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: and never dip again. But he said he got back
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: to America and went into a gas station first thing,
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: and he said the tins were actually speaking to him. Yeah,
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: I said, he said, they're they're calling to him. Yeah,
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: so you're bad. Tobacco was grizzly Wittner Green? Yeah, I
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: think it was. I can't remember, but yeah, that and
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: it didn't. I didn't chew that much on that trip
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: because I didn't have much. That's when I got back
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: to the States, I was looking for it and Taylor,
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: what do you like the grizzly winter green couches? Dirt,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: what's your old man like? Oh he's grizzly, So I said,
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: Dirt's old man likes grizzly. And I said to Dirt, um,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: you don't choose grizzly. No, here, here, here's Dirt's quote.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: Dirt said, no, I got a good job. They called
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: it a welfare bearyer, the welfare bearers what they used
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: to go all of it. Now it's a lot better
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: because back in the day, Grizzly used to be the
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: cheap one, and now Grizzlies just as good as copening.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: Grizzly was trying to get onto Kodiak's group, right because
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: Kodiak like Kodiak Bear and they're like, oh, we'll does
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: go with the Kodiak had the stronger nicotine, didn't the
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: long cut or what was the Kayak not Kyla. That's
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: where I started. They had certain winter grain like a Kodiak.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: I remember working at a plastic plant and it was
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: like a little bit stronger than a normal like Gusli
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: or the Kodiak is they use a better tobacco. It's
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: more premium tobacco than than what other companies used. The
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: only reason I switched to the Grizzly, I like the
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: Copenhagen was because they made to meet a better pouch
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: than um. Grizzly made a better pouch than the Copenhagen
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: was like a little white little cloth. But I mean
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: personal preference there's something to Jerry you're saying about like
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: the sweet the snooze is do you leave a like
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: the generals? I have leave a weird aftertaste bitterness. Yeah, Um,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: I got one of my good buddies from way back logger.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: We all cheered Copenhagen in college and stuff, and then
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: um he quit a big deal and I hadn't seen
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: him for like five years, and who was krim got
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: that front. I'm trying to like feel what's going on
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: right now. If you're feeling the buzz, i'd recommend spitting
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: it out already. I don't know if I felt a
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: buzz or if I have if I was like having
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: an adrenaline rush out of my fear he gave you
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: the placebo dip. I'd like to know if that was true,
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: because I could have had just a rush of like
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: whatever childhood memories. I was a real deal. But so
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: this is gonna puke this buddy for us. I'm still okay,
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: but it's coming out. So I see I see him this,
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: I see him a couple of months ago. Well I'm back.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I got I got mixed up. So he quit, Like
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: how you got kind of a camouflage Hawaiian shirt. This
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: this is you know they got smoker's jackets. This is
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: my dipping shirt. Yeah today I work. It's like a
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: camel Hawaiian shirt. That's a great shirt. Breeze real well too.
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: But um so Forest haven't seen him forever. We go
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: have a beer somewhere and pulls out one of that
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: one of your tins wanted. Oh really yeah, interested in
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: the outlaw can. I hadn't seen it before. And this
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: was before I knew we were going to be doing this.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: And he's like, yeah, I quit and I tried getting
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: on generals but they tasted like like cap piss after
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: a while. And now he's junior, he's hooked on your outlaw.
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: So I mean it's and he's the type of dude
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: who needs to chew like he's got six kids, gowns
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: the log and company, like you gotta give yourself a
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: break every once. So you feel that if someone has
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: six children and owns a log, like they're just gonna
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: have to chew. Well, I'm saying like nicotine is one
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: of those one of those things in life, like it's
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: a little reward. I think that says it's having a
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: piece of cake in your pocket and when you run out,
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: you know, it's kind of like that person he's like,
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: hey man, you got any cake? You know, Yeah, that's
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: a personal thing. I could relate to the um. I
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: can relate because I used to have where I used
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: to drink way too much. Like I used to get
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: a lot of alcohol, but a lot of alcohol. If
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: I wasn't out in the woods, I couldn't no way,
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: Like I couldn't be home um and not drink. But
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: if I was in the mountains, no desire to drink.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: But if I was home, I would get just a
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: terrible thirst. And it wasn't until I had kids that
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: I was able to stop drinking. Not stop, but like
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: mostly stopped basically now like I only drinking out. It
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: was like whatever, I'll just have a drink. Headaches right well.
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: And I got where I started to feel guilty about
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: being hungover, and I felt like my kids didn't ask
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: to be born. But they wake up in the morning
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: ready to go, and you have a hangover. It's like
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: it's not their problem that they're there in awake in
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: your house like you had them, so as then want
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: to be like annoyed by them and have a hangover,
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: but you you had that reward system before your kids,
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: equivalent to like yeah, man, at night, like if I
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: was writing or doing work and I got done, um,
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: that was like the immediately finish up by am bor stiffy.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: Did you have anything in your process of writing that
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: you did like a fix? Was you just clean headed? No? No, no, no, totally.
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: All that stuff is alive. Man. But when we were studying,
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: when I was like learning to be a writer and
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: went to graduate school and everything with a lot of
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: kids that want to be writers, we all looked up to.
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: We all thought that the cool writers were the ones
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: that supposy like we're like that, you know, like everybody
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: has image of like the drunk you know Arles Bokowski. Yeah,
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: like you're all wasted three in the morning. No man,
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: ten am Monday morning, that's when you write. Like, uh No,
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: I didn't know. I came to think that that was
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: a total lie. I think that's that's maybe one out
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: of a hundred. That's the way him in a way
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: he didn't. I mean in the afternoons he would drink. Yeah,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: one out of a hundred writers, like I don't when
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: people talk about like writing drunk, I just don't, like,
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: I don't think that that's I don't I don't. I
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: don't think that that's really a thing. Alcohol does not
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: help my writing or my stage because you think stupid
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: ship's funny exactly. But then Taylor, you quote you quoted
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: Einstein to yeah, chew and chew, and yeah, what I
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: so Einstein he thought of his greatest ideas well in
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: the process of the motion of chewing. So he might
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: not have been chewing tobacco, but he's probably chewing gum
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: or something like that. And there's some kind of like
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: firing mechanism of the process of chewing. So when I'm
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: writing a song or something, it's like I have a
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: dip in or this or that. But I mean some
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: of his greatest ideas he was chewing something, which is interesting,
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: you know funny My kids leverage that because when I
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: was a little boy, uh back when we're eating that
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: tobacco and whatnot, you couldn't have gum in school and
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: you could wear a hat and uh now you can
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: choot gum. Wow. Yeah, my kid, My wife just bought
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: my kid a big old sack of some kind of
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: like little lifesaver type things. He's going to bring down.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: He says he needs it for doing his math test.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: He man the son get good grades, making proud. Second,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: I had a my anthropology teacher in college, and Missoula
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: would tell us if you're a smoker before a test.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: He encouraged people to go smoke a cigarette before they
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: took the test. For some reason, he had some anthropological
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: stimul Yeah, he had something dictaine. I mean, they've done
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: studies on a word. It's you know, it's just like
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: caffeine and stimulates brands. It stimulates you kind of. Even
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: in Silicon Valley and stuff. People that are there, like
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: New Tropics, they'll use nicotine, you know, like the little
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: zins or like a nicotine tablet as a stimulant, you
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: know what. But to me, it doesn't stimulate. I mean
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: maybe after doing it too much, it doesn't. Your tolerance
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: is probably real high. You still have that ammonium thing
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: and just now took it out. But yeah, that's good.
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: You got a buzz, I mean, pretty better than the grizzly.
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, uh okay, so we're still gonna get what
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: you when you canna do for us whatever you like. No,
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: you had one in mine. He's hell's that now? But
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: I don't know a's where as your guitar right there behind?
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: Oh ship? Can I pick it up? What was the same?
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: Put the put the mic to the forget it? Well, no,
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: I don't know how to play anything. No, no, but
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: we're gonna try. When I play a guitargo a you
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: gotta start somewhere. But you're a writer, so why don't
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: you play that in a company? Something that comes to mind,
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: this is you're doing? Because all my saw long as
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: I think over like, um, well, my kids, so anytime
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: I wear a button up shirt with collars on it,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: my kids like, why do you look so fancy? Just
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: so fancy? So I wrote a song about myself called
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: big Dog? How did you get so fancy? Come on?
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: Come on playing? You get so fancy? You know it's
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: a big dog. How did you get so fancy? A
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: little coming around the mountain? Which comes but Jared walked
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: me through. How so how did you go from like
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: um you YouTuber YouTuber to um tobacco magnate hopefully cover
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: a dip aficionado saying that's funny. I did not know that.
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: Um well, I just I mean I did so much
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: stuff on dip, and I feel like I've basically learned
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: more than anyone out there on on the process of
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: this and actually making something good. So then we ended
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: up starting out long became pretty much the big uh
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: tobacco free dip out there. So so he's a tobacco
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: free magnet. Yeah to bad. Yeah, tobacco free magnet. Yeah. Now,
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: but I mean, I don't get me wrong, I still
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: love tobacco. What's your favorite personal favorite out of anything?
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure you like out of your blends
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: even maybe like a winter Green or like my favorite
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: out of this one is I love the Sweet Tea
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: because I like the is one real and got tobacco. Yeah,
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: I got their question for you. Yeah, explain your new
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: album Fishing Songs. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm a I'm
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: a musician as well. The only thing I know how
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: to play the G string. I reckon. That's all you did. Yeah,
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: so I got enough to get you in trouble. But yeah,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: so I got an album. Well by the time this
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: is out at the drop, but like you've seeing it
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: on Instagram, you're Fishing Songs. Yeah. Yeah, so we we
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: did it like a little EP called Fishing Songs. That.
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: Um it's just I got hunting songs coming out in November,
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: and uh so, yeah, I've been I've always been doing
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: like comedy music, just writing stuff. I just enjoyed a
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: lot just writing stuff. And um so I had this
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: idea of like, man, I just like all these people
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: that follow me, they love fishing and hunting, so might
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: as well write songs about it. I just feel like
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: there's not enough good fishing songs out there. So there
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: really is not a lot of fishing songs. No, and
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: if they are, they're very like manufactured by Nashville. And
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: you know, I shouldn't say there's not a lot of
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: fishing songs. There's not a lot of fishing songs that
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: have made their way into the sort of in the
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: dark nyably fishing whistle jump ran, Yeah, but that's not
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: a fishing yea. There's this guy in the Wisconsin named
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: spid Peeper. I don't know if he's playing. He's got
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: some great fishing songs like I'm Gonna strap the canoe
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: to Mini Van, I got my Cooman stole and a
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: portable can the whole fishing song. That was a beautiful
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: voice right there, Country boy can servive it's got a
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: fishing line. And what's funny, you couldn't It was illegal
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: in Michigan. You couldn't use a set line or a
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: trot line in Michigan, so people didn't know what it was.
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: But we had a trout and uh, I want to
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: be hell billies. When I was a kid, they thought
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: he said, um, we can skin a buck, we can
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: run a trout line, because they didn't know what a
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: trot line was, or they thought he was saying we
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: can skin a buck, we can run a trap line,
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: not knowing that he's actually saying we can skin a buck,
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: we can run a trot line. Country boy Cancer Vive.
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: I'll just play a little bit of this now, which
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: let's see you got catfish fever, tree pounder. We've always
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: ridge pounds, kiss my bass? K which one? Which one
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: should I play? Play? You play tree pounder if you
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: that's like limb lining it basically, Yuh, call my buddies
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: and tell them to meet at first light. We're going
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: fishing in the morning. It just feels right, man, that
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: boat looking real nice. Can't wait to have a fight
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: on the deck where I'm keeping that line tight. All
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: my buddies, No I want to go pro. They always
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: laugh and say, yeah, good luck, bro. It's kicking me
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: y off, and I'm so sick at their scarfs. I'm
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: catching fat girls gave me, but they keep breaking off.
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: Once a cart officient was the size of a stark,
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: had a brown color like a no rusty truck. No
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: one believes me. It looks are deceived and you probably
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: caught a tree. Why aren't you perceiving treat like a
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: suree pounder? Baby walk out one of those. Dude, that's
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: great man. Yeah, so we have to like two musicians here.
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: Do you just feel like a competitive streak right now
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: between two of you very similar material? It's the different
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: different guys like like like like the fish and here
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: you are there. It's a songwriter too. Oh yeah, well
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: so's uh little Chester is like a fake songwriter. So
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: let me tell the funny story about Chester. He didn't
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: do any wrong. Chester got married and he serenaded his
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: wife at his wedding with a song, and somehow it
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: generated some confusion among the attendees and people came away
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: thinking that Chester had written the song. Am I correct?
- 2:01:42Speaker 1: That's correct? Who had actually written the song? Tyler? So
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: I'm hearing all about Chester's new song. I'm like, I
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: don't think so. But he didn't do anything to propagate
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: the lie. He learned to listen to this kid learned
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: to play here hand its guitar to Chester. Chester learned
- 2:02:00Speaker 1: to play just in order to serenade his wife. Now
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: that's a much more. That's a cute love story. Did
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: you like a pick? Chester? Is this standard? Pull the
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: micro over by Chester? Chester sings like a bird? Uh? Oh, boy,
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: just do a quick advertisement right there, do a quickly Chester.
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: He learned to do this in order to sing a
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: song to his wife at his wedding. And that cute
- 2:02:28Speaker 1: that's a romantic makes me want to date Chester. I
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: always can't play when I'm in front of people, but
- 2:02:40Speaker 1: you know, well, how did you play in front of
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: your wife at the wedding? It's a cowboy and new
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: h in South Texas. Oh this good one. His face
- 2:02:57Speaker 1: was burned deep by the sun. Part history, part sage,
- 2:03:03Speaker 1: part mesquite. It's there when poncho Via was young. Tell
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: you a tale of the old days when the country
- 2:03:16Speaker 1: was wild all around. See it under the stars of
- 2:03:23Speaker 1: the Milky Way. Listen to the Kind Hotel and theo
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: boo boo boo boo yao boo hoo you pooh boo
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: you boo you poo bullo yao boo hoo you poo.
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: Ladies and estor listen. So I wrote a song about
- 2:03:57Speaker 1: Chester singing that song and goes it goes who yep
- 2:04:00Speaker 1: poo yep Chester that He's like Chester sings who you poo?
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: It goes Chester, something like that. I've heard some other versions,
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: probably Jester goes who uh god man plays packed and
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: in Dirt's got songs? Yep, yep, tell one of the
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: names your songs, dirt, Oh, hobo song, Hobo song. That's
- 2:04:33Speaker 1: a funny story. But another time you're telling an our
- 2:04:37Speaker 1: time you bring your own instrument in yepkay, you can
- 2:04:40Speaker 1: pass it over man, room full of talent now, oh
- 2:04:44Speaker 1: real quick for you do your diddy joint. That's what
- 2:04:47Speaker 1: they call it nowadays, jazz cigarette. No, not that, like
- 2:04:53Speaker 1: don't like in rap you call song a joint. You
- 2:04:56Speaker 1: didn't know this, yeah, like the joint? How do people
- 2:05:05Speaker 1: go find you? Jared? I know where I find you? Where?

- 2:07:00Speaker 1: I don't know. I just like it's just gone. But
- 2:07:03Speaker 1: I will wear these boots in my track pants. So yeah, yeah,
- 2:07:06Speaker 1: now here's the deal though, um wid yeah, well these
- 2:07:11Speaker 1: are d's. We have a wide and a work boot
- 2:07:13Speaker 1: has a steel toe. No, I don't want that. I

- 2:08:16Speaker 1: I think that I really feel like, um, I'm not
- 2:08:18Speaker 1: just saying this. Here's the way to put it where
- 2:08:20Speaker 1: it won't just seem like because because because I like you,
- 2:08:22Speaker 1: we're friends. It's a phenomenal album. Here's my proof. My wife,
- 2:08:30Speaker 1: I can tell you something about her, feels zero obligation
- 2:08:35Speaker 1: to you. What's that mean? Like we're friends, you've been
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: on the show. She's not like, oh, that's cute, I'll
- 2:08:41Speaker 1: go see him. She knows the album. We play in
- 2:08:44Speaker 1: our camper all the time. And when she and she
- 2:08:50Speaker 1: somehow independent of me, she didn't realize you're on the
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: show right now. Well, this is a while ago. She
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: knew that. She was like, can you call him to
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: get me ticket? It's because he's I said, well, hey,
- 2:09:01Speaker 1: he's in town, he's on the podcast. She wanted tickets
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: to go see you. Wow, that's awesome. And hadn't even
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: and this is before she even like put it all.
- 2:09:10Speaker 1: She hadn't like assembled all the pieces in her head.
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: She likes it. That's good, and she's not gonna go
- 2:09:15Speaker 1: do something she doesn't want to do totally. Now. The
- 2:09:19Speaker 1: cool thing about like music to me, it's like good
- 2:09:22Speaker 1: songs like you show them to children or old people
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: with old people and children like them. Usually that forces
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: people in their middle ages to like stuff and it's
- 2:09:30Speaker 1: like that's a good litmus test of like, I don't know,
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: for some reason, children like my scary songs. You know,
- 2:09:37Speaker 1: it's it's interesting. But get this guy. Yeah, I showed
- 2:09:42Speaker 1: a few of my buddies some of your music. Man,
- 2:09:44Speaker 1: everyone loves it. Oh, I think you should be. I
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: don't know. I don't want like, I'm not wishing fame
- 2:09:49Speaker 1: on you, like fame in and of itself as a value.
- 2:09:52Speaker 1: But I do think that I hope people find out
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: and and like, I hope more people find out for sure,
- 2:09:57Speaker 1: for sure, they sure will. It's ain't quitting anytime soon.
- 2:10:01Speaker 1: I got people that come up after shows like, please
- 2:10:03Speaker 1: don't stop doing this. It's like, what else would I
- 2:10:05Speaker 1: be doing? You know what I mean? A lot to quit?
- 2:10:12Speaker 1: Mm hmm it's the song is called Hell's half Acre.
- 2:10:25Speaker 1: H h Hell's half facre. It's a deep docle. You
- 2:10:57Speaker 1: can't do nothing save my soul. Camp I forgiven when
- 2:11:08Speaker 1: I fool what I've done, The thing left to so
- 2:11:16Speaker 1: un wrong. So what's turned on the gas and strike
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: up a match, Jump in the car and drive away
- 2:11:26Speaker 1: fast leaven nothing but fire on the black top, food,
- 2:11:33Speaker 1: blue white smoke, grassing in my review, got the hounds
- 2:11:38Speaker 1: on my hues. You're blooding my track. And once you
- 2:11:42Speaker 1: go to hell, boy can come back. Get the Easianna
- 2:12:02Speaker 1: founding over bye, so stout the hammer roll and these
- 2:12:10Speaker 1: all blue. I'm gonna shave my face. I'm gonna ditch

- 2:12:29Speaker 1: eyes are still in the scream on every night while
- 2:12:34Speaker 1: store even, nothing but the fire on the black top,
- 2:12:41Speaker 1: blue white smoke rising in myria. Got the hounds on
- 2:12:47Speaker 1: my hues. You're putting my truth and what you or
- 2:12:51Speaker 1: the game come back? She'll go st in my cousin
- 2:13:11Speaker 1: the skillets of my whoa. The girl wants to hot
- 2:13:19Speaker 1: lund in. But I can ride out with hopping of
- 2:13:26Speaker 1: free train ye through the end of the line. Never
- 2:13:34Speaker 1: be the thing close. My eyes are still here, the
- 2:13:40Speaker 1: stream on every noight or out of still to leave
- 2:13:47Speaker 1: nothing but the fire on the black top, the blue
- 2:13:51Speaker 1: white smoke rising in myrio. Got the hounds on my eels,
