Latest / The Psychic Explorer / My First Paranormal Investigation: Ghost Hunting in a Haunted Church (with Joolz Bailey) 🔮
Transcript
- 0:10Hello everyone! Welcome to this very special
- 0:14and bumper episode of The Psychic Explorer. Can
- 0:17you believe it's December already? Happy Christmas!
- 0:21Happy Winter Solstice! Happy Yule! My word, are
- 0:24you in for a treat today? Listeners who heard
- 0:28the episode with John O 'Angelo will know that
- 0:32I have had a paranormal investigation up my sleeve
- 0:36for a little while now. Well, here we are. Here
- 0:39we go. Jules Bailey is taking me on my very first
- 0:44paranormal investigation. Jules has over 20 years
- 0:47experience of conducting paranormal investigations
- 0:50in and around the Norfolk area where I live.
- 0:54She very kindly agreed to take me out to an undisclosed
- 0:58location. I had no idea where I was going to
- 1:01go until I arrived. It was just me and Jules
- 1:05and she wanted to give me the real deal of what
- 1:10an actual paranormal investigation is like. No
- 1:13sensational TV -style shocks, no horror story
- 1:17poltergeists, just an actual paranormal investigation
- 1:22in which you, my dear, dear listeners, my dear
- 1:26explorers, are coming along with me. So, if you
- 1:30have always wanted to do this, if you have always
- 1:32wanted to explore, if you have always wanted
- 1:35to do your very own Most Haunted, this is it.
- 1:38This is what it's actually like. Jules was really
- 1:41keen to impress upon me that most of the time
- 1:44when she does these paranormal investigations
- 1:46it's really boring nothing happens they'll set
- 1:50all their equipment up and it will be excused
- 1:53upon dead but what you're about to hear is what
- 1:59happened on the night with me and Jules it's
- 2:02subtle but things definitely happen and I would
- 2:05love to know what you think Just a quick heads
- 2:09up, because where me and Jules went on this investigation
- 2:13is left unlocked that night. Jules has asked
- 2:16me to keep the location anonymous. So in order
- 2:19to do that, I'm going to bleep out the name of
- 2:21the location whenever it comes up in this episode.
- 2:24So if you hear a beep, that is why. Okay, are
- 2:28you ready? Put your earbuds in, make sure your
- 2:31torches have got enough battery, because here
- 2:34we go. So I'm turning onto Royal Main Road and
- 2:47then coming off. Now, okay, I'm just, I'm going
- 2:51down the lane here and it's a small country track.
- 2:57Just past the sign saying three quarters of a
- 3:00mile, there's a historic church. I wonder if
- 3:03that's where we might be going. I don't know,
- 3:06but I'm following this, this lane. see where
- 3:10it goes. Jules has arranged to meet me at coordinates.
- 3:14She sent me the three word coordinates so I've
- 3:17looked that up online. I've put into my google
- 3:20maps and that's now taking me there and she's
- 3:22already messaged me. Jules has messaged me to
- 3:25tell me that she is already at the rendezvous
- 3:28location. It is the 9th of November. It is pitch
- 3:33black. I am driving down this lane and there
- 3:36are tall English oak trees which have sprung
- 3:38up from the hedges which line the lane I find
- 3:41myself driving down. It is in the depths of autumn,
- 3:45the leaves have fallen, acorns scatter the road.
- 3:49As I drive down this lane, it's almost as if
- 3:51I'm driving down a tunnel, this tunnel created
- 3:54by these oak trees which are looming above me,
- 3:57silhouetted against the light of the moon which
- 4:00is scattered by the clouds. It is Remembrance
- 4:03Sunday. For many that means remembering those
- 4:06who have come before us, who have fought in conflict
- 4:09and served in the military service. I'm reminded
- 4:12that this time last year, I was stood up in front
- 4:15of a hall full of people, bringing messages through
- 4:18on platform and participating in the Remembrance
- 4:21Sunday service. And fast forward a year, I'm
- 4:25about to go on a ghost hunt on a paranormal investigation.
- 4:30I turn a corner on this lane and I find Joel's
- 4:33car waiting for me. The investigation is about
- 4:37to begin. Here she is. Okay, I'm here. So I'm
- 4:44going to park up behind her. Here we go. Oh my
- 4:49word. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. Hello.
- 4:59Oh, I'm good. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this.
- 5:01We say our hellos and I get Jules mic'd up as
- 5:05soon as I can. Of course, at this stage, I have
- 5:07no idea that Jules' microphone is about to record
- 5:10about three minutes and then just turn off for
- 5:13the whole night. At the end of the evening, we
- 5:15had about two and a half hours of audio. But
- 5:17when she sent it to me, it was just two and a
- 5:19half hours of nothing. So frustrating. So because
- 5:24of that, in the parts of this episode where Jaws'
- 5:27audio is not very clear, I'm going to narrate
- 5:30it. It's not because I want to take over or smother
- 5:33Jaws' participation. It's purely so that you
- 5:36can hear what was going on and what was being
- 5:39said. Right, let's get you mic'd up as well then.
- 5:44Hello, this is a test of me recording this. It's
- 5:55so frustrating that yours didn't work that night,
- 5:58but... Hey, we have what we have and actually
- 6:01what we have is pretty interesting. So let's
- 6:04get started. Let's set a scene. We are at the
- 6:06bottom of this track. This track which leads
- 6:10to this 14th century church, the sign of which
- 6:14I passed on my way to meet Jules. We are the
- 6:17only people for miles around. Although you can
- 6:20hear the distant hum in the background of the
- 6:23North Norwich bypass. It's pitch black. It's
- 6:26coming up to 8 p .m. And Jules invites me to
- 6:29hold her hand to start a protection ceremony.
- 6:37We ask our guides and our guardian angels to
- 6:46step forward and offer us protection for the
- 6:48entirety of this evening. We're asking that you
- 6:52assist us in the communication with spirit while
- 6:54we are on this space. Those spirits who are here
- 6:59who wish to communicate with us, we ask that
- 7:01you wish us no harm as we wish you no harm. Thank
- 7:05you. Marvellous. You happy with that? Good. Armed
- 7:09with our Wellington boots, woolly hats and newly
- 7:12purchased torches, we start walking up the lane.
- 7:16So what is here? Where are we going? Where are
- 7:19we going? We are going to the **** Church. ****
- 7:22Church. OK, it's just outside of Norwich. In
- 7:35case you didn't hear what Jules said there, this
- 7:38village used to be a plague village. Now this
- 7:41fact is news to me. Obviously I know about the
- 7:43plague and how it ran rampant throughout England
- 7:46in the 13, 14, 15 and 1600s. However, to me,
- 7:50this village is a fairly modern village. Not
- 7:53a very pretty village, rather a sterile row of
- 7:57houses and shops lining the street or the main
- 8:00road into the city of Norwich. But the original
- 8:03village actually, at one stage, surrounded the
- 8:06church that we are now walking to. She explains
- 8:10to me that there are many villages like this,
- 8:13and actually this answers a question I have had
- 8:15for many years. I've lived in Norfolk now for
- 8:17about 11 years. And you will drive through the
- 8:19countryside and just see a random church. And
- 8:21these churches are not small. Like, a large,
- 8:24random church in the middle of farmland. And
- 8:26you think, what? Where have the people gone?
- 8:29Like, why was there a church here? and George
- 8:32explains that when the Black Death ran through
- 8:34England, entire villages were wiped off the face
- 8:39of the earth. But the village that I know was
- 8:43not where it is now, it once surrounded this
- 8:46church which we are walking to now. We're going
- 8:52along a lane and the oak tree above is curved
- 8:57over making this beautifully atmospheric passageway
- 9:00for us. This is beautiful. I've never been here
- 9:06before and I asked Jules if this is a ruined
- 9:08church or if it is open. She explains to me that
- 9:11this church is intact but it is not used for
- 9:14active worship. It is owned and maintained by
- 9:17the Norfolk Churches Trust who keep it open and
- 9:19keep it in good condition. And as we finally
- 9:22approach the gate to the church I notice a sign
- 9:26on the side of the gate. So area under surveillance.
- 9:29Norfolk Police, this location is being actively
- 9:31monitored for anti -social behaviour, littering
- 9:34and fly -tiffing. Yep, we don't tend to be anti
- 9:36-social. No. We close the gate behind us and
- 9:39turn to look at the side of the church. Jules
- 9:43takes her torch out to shine points of the church
- 9:46which might be of interest to me. But this is
- 9:51the beautiful **** church. Wow. Isn't it gorgeous?
- 9:56And unlike most of the churches in Norfolk, this
- 9:59one is a rectangular spire, or tower rather.
- 10:04A lot of them are known, the real old ones are
- 10:07known for being round. Yeah, so an Anglo -Saxon
- 10:11church will have a round tower and some of the
- 10:14earlier Norman churches will have round towers
- 10:16as well. This particular church is a 14th century
- 10:20church. So we've got the square tower. But we've
- 10:25still got these absolutely gorgeous, they're
- 10:27called OG shapes. But we've then got the Gothic
- 10:32perpendicular architecture up here as well. That
- 10:37big rumble in the background, that's because
- 10:39we're fairly close to Norwich Airport. Evening
- 10:43flight to Amsterdam probably rumbling away. No
- 10:46doubt. Lucky them. Instead we are in balmy Norfolk.
- 10:54And is that a sundial above the entrance? It
- 10:57is, yeah. Wow, that's lovely. It's gorgeous,
- 11:00isn't it? Yeah. I mean, I absolutely love this
- 11:03church. I think it is fabulous. I've done a couple
- 11:07of investigations here. I've encountered one
- 11:10particular spirit in this place a couple of times.
- 11:14So we'll see if he's here tonight. I don't feel
- 11:16him at the moment. But we shall see. Is he friendly?
- 11:20Yeah. He is. He's very friendly. Contrary to
- 11:24popular opinion, actually quite a few spirits
- 11:27are friendly. We take a few steps towards the
- 11:31door and hope that it's been left open for us.
- 11:35Let's see if it's open. Sometimes they do leave
- 11:37it open. Sometimes they do not. And it is. It's
- 11:42open. Yeah, it normally is left open all the
- 11:44time. Which is one of the wonderful things about
- 11:46this place, I think. And it has that smell. It
- 11:50has that churchy smell, doesn't it? That wonderful
- 11:53mustard smell. Yeah. It's good, isn't it? So,
- 11:59welcome back to the f***ing church. How wonderful.
- 12:02Isn't it gorgeous? Sadly disused, but at least
- 12:08it is... Still furnished. Kept alive, yeah. Yes,
- 12:13still furnished. So we have a lot to thank them
- 12:15for. Amazing work. Jules explains that since
- 12:20she did her first investigation here the building
- 12:22has received some sympathetic restoration. Only
- 12:25some light blastering and in one part above the
- 12:28door unfortunately water has damaged some of
- 12:31that. As you step into the body of the church
- 12:33there are lines of pews facing the altar. It's
- 12:36a simple church but as you can hear the walls
- 12:38are thick and the sense of atmosphere envelops
- 12:42you. The church is split into two parts. You've
- 12:45got the old original 14th century church and
- 12:49then you've got the Victorian extension which
- 12:51holds the altar. There's a font in the corner
- 12:55of the old part of the church and just before
- 13:00the altar you can see where there would have
- 13:02once been a pulpit and just behind that there
- 13:05are some steps. I'm looking at stairs over there.
- 13:09Is that a staircase? They are actually blocked
- 13:11up. okay yeah so they would have gone to a um
- 13:16a tribune gallery i guess okay oh i see so it
- 13:19would have been double or tiered possibly maybe
- 13:22just a small little side room we explore the
- 13:26church some more and notice that the walls are
- 13:29peppered with old memorials These are almost
- 13:32akin to very ornate gravestones put into the
- 13:35plaster of the wall. Some of them are marble,
- 13:37some of them are stone. These are pointers that
- 13:40this church is pre -Reformation. The Reformation
- 13:44was a time in English history which was revolutionary.
- 13:47It witnessed the transformation of England from
- 13:51a Catholic country to a Protestant country. Henry
- 13:54VIII wanted his divorce from his first wife Catherine
- 13:57of Aragon, who in his eyes could not conceive
- 13:59him an heir. and so he wanted to marry a young
- 14:02woman, Amberlyn. Catherine of Aragon, being a
- 14:06Spanish princess, being a very good Catholic
- 14:08princess, the Pope would not annul his marriage
- 14:12to her, so he decided to follow the wave of Lutheranism
- 14:16that was sweeping through Germany and the lowlands,
- 14:19and become the head of his own church, the Church
- 14:23of England, which still prevails today over these
- 14:26lands. and when Jaws is talking about memorials
- 14:29on the walls these are not just simple wooden
- 14:32plaques these are grand marble almost very elaborate
- 14:38tombstones which have been sunk into the walls.
- 14:43You can tell you can tell us the pre -reformation
- 14:45actually because these are very reminiscent of
- 14:48what you might find in Italy or France, Catholic
- 14:52graveyards. Now that we are familiar with the
- 14:54church, it's time to start the investigation.
- 15:00So Jules has just opened up a big metal box with
- 15:03loads of gadgets and gizmos and she's handed
- 15:06me this plastic wand which has got LED lights
- 15:10green through to red. So what does this do Jules?
- 15:15Okay so this picks up electromagnetic frequency
- 15:18so for example if your mobile phone is switched
- 15:21on which is okay so you know if you put it near
- 15:25to be perfectly honest mine's still on as well
- 15:27so we need to switch our phones to some mines
- 15:30on airplane mode already yes i've done that already
- 15:32just now put this near my phone and you can see
- 15:34that the lights are going it's going on like
- 15:36a christmas tree yes the reds and everything
- 15:39yeah so christmas trees are fantastic At Christmas
- 15:43time, but not on investigations, absolutely not.
- 15:45So now switch that onto play mode and you can
- 15:49then see that that will die. That's calmed right
- 15:51down, yes. And just to confirm the microphones
- 15:56are not interfering with it, there's a little
- 15:58bit or there's a little bit. If you hold it right
- 16:01up to it. Right up to it, yes. So that is picking
- 16:04up that... electronic frequency as these are
- 16:07connecting to the mobile phone. So obviously
- 16:10we have to be aware of that when we're just taking
- 16:12our baseline readings. So what we do, if you
- 16:17take this side of the church, I will take this
- 16:19side, and we just sweep around with these. So
- 16:22I'd like to see you do a nice sweeping motion
- 16:25up and down, so sort of like from ground. upwards
- 16:28to just above head level. Okay. And that will
- 16:30tell us if there are any residual baseline EMF
- 16:33readings in the building. So if anything moves
- 16:35above the first green let you know or am I going
- 16:38to orange? If it flickers at all. Okay, if it
- 16:40flickers at all. Because then we will make a
- 16:41note of that. And just to confirm that this church
- 16:45is, let's say 14th century, the walls are going
- 16:49to be very thick. If there are any mobile phone
- 16:52antennas outside or if there are any electricity
- 16:55pylons would that affect things? If they were
- 16:58outside, then there is a chance that it could
- 17:01affect the reading. However, I can tell you now
- 17:04that there are no electricity pylons. There's
- 17:08nothing outside. Jaws makes an excellent point
- 17:13that if our phones were not on airplane mode,
- 17:16there would still be absolutely no signal. So
- 17:20I'm getting absolutely nothing. It's just a constant
- 17:22one green light on what I've got here. Jules
- 17:26is receiving the same baselines. Absolutely nothing
- 17:29is making the EMF meters flicker. So she asked
- 17:32me to place my EMF meter on the pulpit while
- 17:36she places hers on top of a bench where she has
- 17:39placed the rest of her equipment. From wherever
- 17:41we are in that church, we are able to see the
- 17:44green lights of those EMF meters. So wherever
- 17:46we are, we can always see when or if they flicker.
- 17:50Right, okay, what else do we have in the box
- 17:53of tricks? This is what is known as a laser grid.
- 17:57Okay. So if I switch this on. Yes. Oh wow, so
- 18:01this is like what builders use to get straight
- 18:03lines on the walls. Kind of, except we're not
- 18:05going to be building tonight. This little black
- 18:08box on a tripod, it emits a large red grid onto
- 18:12the surface or the wall or wherever it is pointed.
- 18:15And the idea there is that should there be any...
- 18:19movement, activity, etc. Then what you see is
- 18:23the laser grid bending, if you like. The same
- 18:25one we would do if we walked in front of it.
- 18:27Right, okay, yes. So you'd see shadows in front
- 18:30of the grid, so if I just... So I'm bending the
- 18:32light waves and... Basically, yeah. Okay. Jules
- 18:37places this device on the floor just before the
- 18:40altar. Lighten the altar up like some strange
- 18:43laser -red chessboard. Then we return to the
- 18:46bench to see what other gadgets can help us with
- 18:48our investigation. So this particular piece of
- 18:52equipment here is what's called an EM pump. Right.
- 18:55So what that does is the EMF that I was talking
- 18:59about with the meter, this pumps this out. So
- 19:03you quite often hear people on the TV say things
- 19:06like, oh, if there's anybody there, use our energy.
- 19:10I don't actually agree with that. I personally
- 19:12consider that is a bad thing to do because you're
- 19:16inviting any spirit presence to drain your energy.
- 19:20And that can happen. Whereas with something like
- 19:22this, this is giving out the energy, hopefully,
- 19:25to allow spirit to use. Now you're a sensitive
- 19:28human, aren't you? Well, I try to be. I think
- 19:31you succeed. So if I switch that on and hold
- 19:36it, so there's a little red light on the top
- 19:38there. So yeah, this little black box of chores
- 19:41is put into my hand. Vibrating ever so slightly.
- 19:45Yes. So that vibration is the inner workings
- 19:49of the box. But when I hold that, I feel like
- 19:52my body becomes almost electric. There's a heaviness.
- 19:55There's a heaviness to my arm. And it's not a
- 19:58light thing, but it's also not heavy. But there
- 20:01is a little heaviness. And you could feel like
- 20:03it would pull your arm down. Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:05It's an interesting feeling. Yes, it's unusual.
- 20:08Jules asked me to place the EMF meter onto Lafont
- 20:11and again we returned to her box of tricks. Right,
- 20:15what else should we get out of the goody box?
- 20:16There's loads here, this is loads. I know. Something
- 20:20else which we can use if we need to is this which
- 20:24is a temperature gauge. So this has got two functions.
- 20:30Suddenly we hear an unexpected bang. We look
- 20:33at each other in shock. Could this be our first
- 20:36contact was a ghost or spirit or something? Fireworks.
- 20:56Jaws delves into her box of goodies as she produces
- 21:00two motion -activated lights. any motion or anything
- 21:12passing by them they've got a small little sensor
- 21:15just on the top there in the center so and they've
- 21:19got a range of approximately two meters so we
- 21:22i can't trigger this off now then so you put
- 21:25two out one on the font by the emf meter and
- 21:28one on apu so let's see how close i can get without
- 21:32some about a meter away from it There we go.
- 21:37Oh, so I had to put my arm over it to actually
- 21:39turn that one off, okay? Yes, absolutely anything
- 21:52my soul everything yes anything yeah, she was
- 21:56about to tell me something which is really important
- 21:58for you to remember should mention as well is
- 22:01that absolutely every piece of equipment has
- 22:04either got brand new batteries in it or it's
- 22:06just been fully recharged. Any fan of horror
- 22:10films, paranormal investigations or spooky tales
- 22:12will know that apparently batteries drain in
- 22:16the presence of spirits and Jaws confirms that
- 22:18she has experienced this. This is why everything
- 22:21is either fully charged or has brand new batteries
- 22:25in it. And you've got two mobile phones. Yeah,
- 22:28so this one is the one which I use purely for
- 22:31investigation. The reason for that is because
- 22:33this one is not connected to the internet at
- 22:35all. It doesn't have a SIM card in it, so it
- 22:37has no internet connection. And this one, it
- 22:40has got several apps because there is an absolute
- 22:44plethora of apps out there which you can use
- 22:46these days for ghost hunting, spirit investigations
- 22:49and so on. However, I would always say to anybody,
- 22:54always use these things with caution. unless
- 22:58you know what you're doing these investigations
- 23:00can be dangerous and if you notice the um grid's
- 23:05gone off the grid has gone off so that is interesting
- 23:09because as i did say that was fully charged the
- 23:11light is still on i can see the red light on
- 23:13it but the grid has gone off yeah so the actual
- 23:17central laser there you can still just see on
- 23:19the trace view of the window could that be a
- 23:22setting no no setting okay Interesting. Okay,
- 23:30so something potentially. That's interesting
- 23:32already. I've been here for 20 minutes. I will
- 23:35narrate this next bit because the audio gets
- 23:37a bit quiet and a bit echoey. Jules reminds me
- 23:41that we have put our intention out to communicate
- 23:44and that this could be a sign of some form of
- 23:47communication. She then caveats that by saying
- 23:50that she doesn't actually feel like anyone's
- 23:52with her. The moment that she said that, she
- 23:55then corrected herself and said, Oh, actually,
- 23:58I can feel someone to my right. You just said
- 24:03that and as soon as you said that, I thought,
- 24:05I'm not so sure. I might be picking up on something,
- 24:10but I don't know what. OK, so I think now is
- 24:14a good time just to introduce ourselves as we've
- 24:16walked around in this space quite a bit. And
- 24:19actually, it's quite rude of us because we've
- 24:21come into somebody else's space here. Yeah. Joel
- 24:24starts by introducing myself and her to whoever
- 24:28or whatever is in the church. This is Matt. I
- 24:31am Matt, yes. And we come here with nothing but
- 24:35love and space. We just want to find out maybe
- 24:40more about you, see if you have any messages
- 24:42for us, just to have a chat with you and see
- 24:46if there's anything that we can do to help you.
- 24:48And we absolutely mean no harm whatsoever. We've
- 24:51put several bits of equipment out. She then goes
- 24:54on to explain what each piece of equipment does
- 24:56and how to interact with it. Over here we've
- 24:58got a green light. There's another green light
- 25:00over there. And if you walk close to those, what
- 25:03that does is that just makes more light. And
- 25:06I'm sure all of this technology is very strange
- 25:10to me. Suddenly Jules hears something. Did you
- 25:14just hear that rustling? No. I just heard something.
- 25:18It sounded like it rustled. Over here. You know,
- 25:24I was focusing on the sounds the EMF meter's
- 25:26making. Yeah, I just heard something rustle right
- 25:28over there. It sounded like if a lady's wearing
- 25:32long skirts and the skirt brushes against the
- 25:35floor. We pause to listen some more. But if that
- 25:40was you that just made that noise, please do
- 25:42do it again for us. Just as confirmation that
- 25:46what we heard was you. Eager to hear something
- 25:51but conscious to not mistake a natural sound
- 25:54for something supernatural. We wait a few minutes
- 25:57just in silence. But there's nothing. This is
- 26:04completely normal. Yeah, this is what I was expecting.
- 26:09This is all good. You often see things like the
- 26:13TV programs. I'm not going to name any. Eager
- 26:28to record something, Jules takes the mobile phone
- 26:31out of her box of tricks and turns it on. Once
- 26:35it's on, she opens up an app called Ghost Tube.
- 26:39This app combines the mobile phone's infrared
- 26:42camera and sensor and its motion camera. I'm
- 26:45just going to hand this over to you. So using
- 26:47that and this. So what I want you to do is to
- 26:51experience what it does. Okay. So if I walk back
- 26:55and then you point that at me with the torch.
- 26:58Oh, interesting. So it picks up on the general
- 27:02shape of someone. Allow me to just jump in here
- 27:06to explain what Jaws has given me. So this app
- 27:09utilizes infrared light and the camera on a mobile
- 27:13phone. What it does, it floods the area with
- 27:16infrared and it looks for patterns in the area.
- 27:19Once it finds something which resembles a human
- 27:23body on the screen will come up almost like a
- 27:26matchstick person. Now it's important to state
- 27:29that these cameras, these apps can and do a mistake,
- 27:34general objects for people. If something is in
- 27:39the general shape of a person. It is going to
- 27:41pick up on that thing and it is going to make
- 27:44it into the shape of a person. However, what
- 27:47is interesting is that when we were using this
- 27:50app, it was picking up on things. It was picking
- 27:53up on shapes where there was nothing behind it.
- 27:58There was nothing to pick up on. And the idea
- 28:01is that spirit, ghost or whatever can influence
- 28:05the infrared light to give a shape of a person.
- 28:10What's interesting here, and it's recording,
- 28:12is it? So it's picking something up, it's picking
- 28:15you up, and at the moment ago it picked up someone
- 28:17next to you as well. It is on the right hand
- 28:23side of you, yes. So that is very interesting.
- 28:29Just to reiterate that, I was seeing a matched
- 28:33-it person overlaid over the shape of Jules.
- 28:37To her right I was seeing another matchstick
- 28:40person. Now there was nothing behind her, there
- 28:43was nothing that could have been picking up another
- 28:45matchstick person. At that moment Jules was picking
- 28:50up energetically, there was something, someone
- 28:52to her right. I feel it's always healthy to have
- 28:57a slight skepticism on these things. Be open
- 29:00to it, but also be open to possibilities of scientific
- 29:03explanations. We are using equipment. These equipment
- 29:07sometimes have faults. They sometimes have glitches.
- 29:09So I panned the camera around to look at the
- 29:14rest of the building, only to discover yet another
- 29:18figure. But that may have been your shadow. No.
- 29:23It's picking up on the chair. That's what it
- 29:25is. It's picking up. It thinks that the head
- 29:28of that pew is, it thinks that is a head. Yes.
- 29:32I can still feel somebody beside me. In fact,
- 29:35I feel they're following with me now so maybe
- 29:37I've brought them towards you and you might be
- 29:39able to see them. There's something here. There's
- 29:43a small figure here. Sometimes you'll get a little
- 29:47bit of it and then it will go and that's almost
- 29:48like that energy trying to come through. This
- 29:52is very interesting another one. Yeah We begin
- 29:57to walk around the church Looking through our
- 30:00phone with this ghost app and I remind you that
- 30:02this phone is disconnected from the internet
- 30:04It has no SIM card and it is on airplane mode
- 30:08As I do this, Jules is calling out, she's asking
- 30:11questions, she's inviting people, presents, spirits
- 30:15to make their self known. She's inviting them
- 30:19to draw close to us, telling them that our intention
- 30:22is not to harm, our intention is purely investigative.
- 30:31After walking around the church a few times doing
- 30:33this, Jules asked me if I'm picking up anything
- 30:36on the camera. Nothing but the doorway and the
- 30:41edges of the pews. Not since it was next to you.
- 30:47Okay, so if there are any spirits here then I
- 30:50invite you to come closer to us. Come and talk
- 30:54to us. Come and stand next to me again. Jaws
- 30:59is sat on one of the pews and I decide to sit
- 31:02in the row behind her. Do you feel there is energy
- 31:06here? I feel so at peace. I feel very calm. I
- 31:11know it's just churches. I'm not religious, but
- 31:12churches. They're just nice and calm. Love. Just
- 31:17love. I think that's coming from you. I was feeling
- 31:23just this overwhelming sense of emotion to the
- 31:28point where it didn't quite bring me to tears,
- 31:30but certainly I could feel myself welling with
- 31:33it. It was a swelling of love within me that
- 31:36was just building. At this stage though we weren't
- 31:40getting anything more from the ghost tube app.
- 31:42So Jules asked if she could take the phone back
- 31:44from me and she switched to a spirit box app.
- 32:07hopefully with answers that are going to be meaningful
- 32:10to the questions which you ask. I've heard other
- 32:14people say that they don't trust these apps because
- 32:17there are preloaded words which have negative
- 32:20connotations and there's... train of thought,
- 32:25they've pre -installed these words on those try
- 32:27and scare people. When it comes to any app, as
- 32:30I said earlier, you have to use all of these
- 32:32with caution. And that's not just caution as
- 32:35in protecting yourself, it's caution as in a
- 32:39sense of realism. Yeah. If you are asking a question
- 32:43and you get an answer come up on here that seems
- 32:48to make sense to the question. then I think that
- 32:52that is then useful evidence. If it starts spouting
- 32:55nonsense words, then you discount it. I am a
- 33:00firm believer that all paranormal investigations
- 33:04should be entered into with a level head and
- 33:09a sense of clarity. somewhere thinking everything's
- 33:15going to be haunted and everything is trying
- 33:17to kill you or everything is a person that's
- 33:20been hanged and is swinging from the rafters
- 33:23because that isn't what life is like so why would
- 33:25it be like that in death? Yes. Jaws explains
- 33:28the importance that when one goes on an investigation
- 33:31like this it's really important to have a logical
- 33:35mind approach it from a logical scientific point
- 33:37of view. If once you have discredited all the
- 33:42scientific and other anomalies, then yes, you
- 33:45might have something paranormal. And this is
- 33:48what I really enjoyed about this paranormal investigation
- 33:51because Jules is sensitive. She is psychic. She
- 33:54is a medium. She can tap into these energies.
- 33:58However, she also approaches it from a very scientific
- 34:01and may I say a very professional and respectful
- 34:05point of view. I hope this is really coming across
- 34:08in this episode so far that this is not just
- 34:12we're going out and we're trying to get as scared
- 34:14as we can. This is approaching paranormal investigating
- 34:17from a very logical and professional point of
- 34:21view. It's almost like death has been monetized
- 34:35for these app makers. Jules turns on the app
- 34:49and there are a couple of words which come from
- 34:52it. Unfortunately they weren't picked up on the
- 34:56microphone and they weren't clear enough that
- 34:58I could understand what they were saying. As
- 35:24Jules is speaking, I am slowly becoming aware
- 35:29of a presence, I can feel it. There is something
- 35:33coming close to me. I am a few bits of this,
- 35:39but for the past minute or so, I've just been
- 35:41feeling a heavy, not heaviness as an emotional,
- 35:45just a heaviness behind me to my left, just something.
- 35:50And it's come from the corner and it's just sort
- 35:55of hovering behind me here. Like someone just
- 35:58sat on my shoulder. The only way I can describe
- 36:01this feeling is as if you know when someone's
- 36:05watching you. You know when someone has walked
- 36:08into the room and you've not seen them. You just
- 36:11know. I just felt this sense of this person being
- 36:15there. Jules uses the phone and switches back
- 36:19to the ghost tube app to see if she can see any
- 36:22matchstick figure in my vicinity. The camera
- 36:25is very clearly picking you up. Suddenly, I had
- 36:29this wave of energy come over me. I knew this
- 36:33person was here. And at that exact same time,
- 36:36Jules picked something up. There's something
- 36:41there. There's something there. It's like they
- 36:46just tap. Thank you. Thank you. They just tap
- 36:50on the corner and very gently sat. Yeah, all
- 36:56the tingles. Jules was picking this up on her
- 37:00phone as well, this match -tick person, this
- 37:02match -tick individual who was next to me. And
- 37:06I was starting to pick up on other things. I
- 37:08was starting to pick up on feelings of communication,
- 37:13very similar to the way I pick up messages during
- 37:15my mediumship. They trust. They now trust. That's
- 37:22good to hear. We're very, very pleased that you
- 37:24trust us, thank you. We sit for a few more minutes
- 37:27and Jules tries to coax it to make its presence
- 37:32known to us. But after a few minutes, I can feel
- 37:35the energy has dropped almost as if somebody
- 37:37has walked out of the room. I've lost it now.
- 37:43That was really intense. Almost in my mind I
- 37:46just saw them creep around the edge of the pew.
- 37:51It's at this point that Jules reveals that while
- 37:53she saw it on the camera she wasn't recording.
- 38:01The figure that Jules said that she could see
- 38:04or she could pick up on was quite small so she
- 38:06interpreted that to be a child. I go on to describe
- 38:09how I saw it in my mind's eye. very basic cloth
- 38:22clothes. Just this sneaky, not sneaky with the
- 38:25wrong word, but just this. I just need to just
- 38:29turn around and just sit next to me. Just a little
- 38:33gentle person if you wanted to come and say hello.
- 38:35Yeah. You're very welcome to step forward again
- 38:39and to come closer to us. We wish you absolutely
- 38:42no harm. We would love to see you again. Jaws
- 38:44calls out to it some more and again, I suddenly
- 38:48feel its presence. I joke that I don't want my
- 38:59watch broken and Jules suggests we use another
- 39:02toy from her box of gizmos. So we get up and
- 39:05as I make my way to the aisle I really feel something.
- 39:09I feel like there's something blocking my way.
- 39:16That's a nice little... Yeah, thank you. Oh,
- 39:19I feel like I can't go there. I feel like they're
- 39:20here. I feel like they're just here. I don't
- 39:25want to go any further. There's somebody standing
- 39:27right in front of you. I don't want to push here.
- 39:31There's somebody standing right in front of you.
- 39:33Are you sure it's not the outline of the pews?
- 39:35No, because it's right in the middle of the pews.
- 39:37Amazing. Yeah, I just feel like there's a wall
- 39:41that I just don't want to intrude upon. It's
- 39:44their space. And the tingles and the emotion.
- 39:49Yeah, really feeling that. I know and I can appreciate
- 39:54this does not sound like it's much, but if only
- 39:59I could explain to you how I felt. It was like
- 40:01someone was stood there in front of me and there
- 40:05was a barrier that I just wasn't allowed to penetrate.
- 40:08It wasn't a negative thing. It was just an awareness
- 40:11that there was someone there and it was someone's
- 40:14personal space. And the fact that Jules was picking
- 40:17up the same thing on the camera, that there was
- 40:21this outline of this matchstick person where
- 40:24I was describing, where I was feeling it, there
- 40:27was something going on there. I feel the air
- 40:31around my hands getting colder. I don't know
- 40:33if I'm being psychosomatic, but I feel the air
- 40:37around my hands is much colder. Jules grabs her
- 40:42digital thermometer and starts probing the air
- 40:45around my hand and comparing it to the ambient
- 40:48temperature. It is exactly the same temperature
- 40:51over here as it was over there. But it seems
- 40:56as though you are feeling that change. It's the
- 41:00same. When you're moving that thermometer around,
- 41:05it's creating a draft and it's the same feeling
- 41:08as I felt before you went to get that. Like a
- 41:11draught. There's no windows open, the doors are
- 41:15closed, there's no draught in here. What I would
- 41:17say is that it's got more of an erratic change
- 41:20over here, which is unusual. Are you not feeling,
- 41:23I'm feeling a draught on my hand. It's like something's
- 41:28blowing on me. I've got it all up my back, I
- 41:31feel as though I'm, it's like a creeping, tingling
- 41:34feeling that starts off at the base of my back
- 41:36and it goes all the way up over the top of my
- 41:37head. I state that this sensation is only on
- 41:41my right hand. Jules puts the thermometer down
- 41:44and puts her hand down where my hand is resting.
- 42:05I can feel that. You're feeling the energy. I'm
- 42:07feeling it, yeah. So after we sort of just took
- 42:15a deep breath and recovered from that, we went
- 42:17to look at the music box that Jules had that
- 42:20we were going to use in the experiment going
- 42:22forward. The other thing which I have in here
- 42:25is this small piece of equipment here. This is
- 42:28called a spirit music box. OK. So this is also
- 42:33a motion. sensor on front here, just like the
- 42:36lights. So when I switch this on, you'll hear
- 42:39a really horrible, haunting bit of music. So
- 42:42be prepared. Who the hell, from what I know,
- 42:53I'm going to make a box for spirit hunting and
- 42:57put that music with it. Yeah, give it the creepiest
- 43:00music that you possibly can. It's almost like
- 43:02they planned it. Why would you do that? Where
- 43:04should we put that? So before you put that down
- 43:06then, what are the parameters for setting this
- 43:11off? What will and what won't? Exactly the same
- 43:15as the motion sensor lights, purely motion that
- 43:19sets it off. So you can see there's a sensor
- 43:22on one side here, which just went off as soon
- 43:25as I touched it. Very loud. I'll move that away
- 43:28from the mic a little bit. So it's the motion
- 43:32that sets it off. It's purely motion that sets
- 43:35it off. So you had your finger on and it set
- 43:37off. You've just waged your torch in front of
- 43:39it about 15, 20 centimeters above and it's not
- 43:42gone off. It's got a period of, I think it's
- 43:45something like 20 seconds or maybe 30 as a reset
- 43:49point. So any movement within that time, it will
- 43:52go off. We decided to place the music box near
- 43:57the pew where I was feeling this presence. We
- 44:05spend the next five minutes trying to figure
- 44:07out where the limits of the sensor on this music
- 44:12box is. It goes on, it goes off, it goes on,
- 44:14it goes off. And we realized actually the sensor
- 44:17is much more sensitive than what Jaws had originally
- 44:21expected. We fiddle around with the second music
- 44:25box that Jules has but inexplicably the batteries
- 44:29for that are dead. And it's then that we both
- 44:33hear something. It's not fireworks, it's something
- 44:37from within the church. I will try and replay
- 44:47that as loud as I can. It's very subtle and unfortunately
- 44:51as the sound goes off Jaws is saying something
- 44:54at the same time yeah this is this is called
- 45:01did you hear that behind you that was just like
- 45:07a creaking sound of somebody sitting on a pew
- 45:10wasn't it it was creaking i had that and i'm
- 45:15freezing Unfortunately, the microphone does not
- 45:18pick it up very well. What it sounds like to
- 45:20me in edit is that something is knocking or tapping
- 45:25or creaking at the same rate that Jules is speaking.
- 45:31There's the same pattern, but it goes on a little
- 45:34bit longer than what Jules is talking. If you
- 45:37hear it again, the sound mimics the beat of her
- 45:40speech and continues for a millisecond longer
- 45:44than what she does. I'll try to increase the
- 45:47volume just a little bit more. Listen to this
- 46:01clip while I'm editing it. The logic part of
- 46:04me is saying it's an echo because it mimics the
- 46:07beat of Joel's speech very well. What I would
- 46:11say is that this microphone really does not pick
- 46:13up what we heard. It was very much a sound that
- 46:17was in the room. You have heard audio of me and
- 46:21Jules in this church. You can hear what the echo
- 46:24is like. You can hear what the reverberation
- 46:25is like. By this stage in the evening, we are
- 46:28used to what that sounds like. This sound was
- 46:31different enough to make us both stop mid -sentence,
- 46:35look at each other, and we could even pinpoint
- 46:38the direction. It came from behind Jules from
- 46:42the pews. Yeah, this is called... Did you hear
- 46:49that? Behind you? That was just like a creaking
- 46:54sound of somebody sitting on a pew, wasn't it?
- 46:57It was creaking. I heard that. And I'm freezing
- 47:02at my back. That could have been me. Could have
- 47:07been me. Could have walked backwards and that
- 47:09started. I take the cap off of the thermometer
- 47:14to see if there's a change in temperature around
- 47:17Jules back but all we can find, if anything,
- 47:20the temperature has actually risen. The ambient
- 47:23temperature when we came in was 13, around her
- 47:26back it's actually about 15 but Jules is saying
- 47:30that she is freezing on her back. It sounds inconclusive
- 47:35but there's definitely something going on, we
- 47:37can both feel it. So Jules reaches into her case
- 47:41yet again to pull out something I've never seen
- 47:44before. It looks lethal. Like a pen, doesn't
- 47:49it? Yeah, is it not? No. It looks like an old
- 47:53Parker pen. If you'd like to just take that.
- 47:55Yes. We keep setting off the music box so we
- 48:00decided to move towards the altar before Jules
- 48:02reveals whatever these things are. Whatever they
- 48:05are, she has a bundle of silver ones and a bundle
- 48:08of bronzy gold ones. She gives me one pair and
- 48:12she takes one for herself and we move to the
- 48:14altar, setting off the music box as we go. It's
- 48:22important to point out here that from our new
- 48:24position at the altar we're not in the line of
- 48:27sight of the sensor of the music box. It cannot
- 48:30pick us up. We wave our arms, we try to set it
- 48:33off. It is not possible because from our point
- 48:37of view the music box is now behind a pew. So
- 48:43if you pull out the end of this and then you
- 48:47can bend it down. I've never used these before.
- 48:51Okay, we're about to have a lesson in using dowsing
- 48:53rods. It's a 90 degree angle, yeah? I am given
- 48:58my very first lesson in using dowsing rods. Jules
- 49:02instructs me just to relax my shoulders, to shake
- 49:05off the energy and to hold them at 90 degrees
- 49:10as much as possible. She is holding her very
- 49:14lightly and she informs me the tighter I grip
- 49:17my dowsing rods, the more they'll be affected
- 49:19by my own micro movements. Micro movements are
- 49:23tiny movements which influence the direction
- 49:25of the dowsing rods. Micro movements are usually
- 49:28put down to subconscious signals from your brain
- 49:31making the dowsing rods point in a certain direction
- 49:34that you want the answer to be. Jules also draws
- 49:38in protection saying a little something just
- 49:40to remind us that we are protected. The rods
- 49:53that Jules is holding start to move. Just a reminder
- 50:14that there's no way we could have set that off.
- 50:19As far as the sensor on the music box is concerned,
- 50:22we are hidden well behind a pew. It cannot see
- 50:26us. My curiosity is well and truly piqued now.
- 50:31I have felt something, something's been picked
- 50:33up on camera. The music box has gone off. We
- 50:37have both felt temperature fluctuations and we
- 50:40both heard something. So I'm most definitely
- 50:42intrigued as to what has happened and what could
- 50:45potentially happen. My lesson in Dows and Rows
- 50:49continues and Jules encourages me to get a baseline.
- 50:52So she gets me to ask some questions which I
- 50:54know are yes or no answers to help me understand
- 50:57which direction my roles will point to for either
- 51:01a yes answer or a no answer. I've just asked
- 51:04a question in my mind and it went that way and
- 51:07that's grown that way. So that is your answer.
- 51:13Then you ask a question which is the opposite.
- 51:20Okay. So yours has done mine. So your no is my
- 51:24guess. Okay, my question. And just to confirm,
- 51:38it does not pick up on the shadow or light or
- 51:40anything like that. No, it's purely motion. Purely
- 51:42motion. How does it, okay, I'm being real picky
- 51:47here. How does it know the difference between
- 51:50movement and movement of the shadow? If you try
- 51:55it at home with motion sensors, I've got motion
- 51:57sensor lights in my house. And if I were to walk
- 52:02past a room which has got light on it, my shadow
- 52:04does not switch them on. It has to be an actual
- 52:07physical thing to switch them on. But it's good,
- 52:11it's good that you're questioning this. Yes,
- 52:13I think it's important too. Absolutely. Really
- 52:15important because you're just, because no one's
- 52:18there but your shadow is moving, making a movement
- 52:21in that general area. But it's actually on the
- 52:23back wall. We wave our arms and try and activate
- 52:27the music box with our shadow. Nothing happens.
- 52:31And where your shadow was moving, it was on the
- 52:33back wall and the sensor space in the opposite
- 52:35direction. If this was my shadow setting off
- 52:38right now. Yeah, it is not doing it. Interesting.
- 52:42Okay, interesting. Do you think that? Absolutely.
- 52:47I go back to testing my baselines. Perfect. Right,
- 52:51I'm thinking of my no answer I saw. I have my
- 52:53yes, now I'm thinking of a no answer. So just
- 52:55something very simple. So, is your name Derek?
- 52:57So okay, yeah, good point, okay. So, is my name
- 53:02Derek? My rods move in the... opposite direction
- 53:05they did before. Did we have a spirit with us
- 53:20here at the moment? Who is sitting over there
- 53:22in the pews? So they very slowly crossed? Yep,
- 53:27so that's a yes. So can you please move the rods
- 53:31into a direction of the door? So yours are moving,
- 53:38mine are not. But the motion detector goes off.
- 53:47Please, could you move my rods to the direction
- 53:50of the altar? My left one's just gone behind
- 53:55me. I think my right one is my hand. That was
- 54:00my hand. But the left one was not. Have you seen
- 54:04mine? And yours are moving as well. Okay. So
- 54:09you're holding yours differently to mine. I'm
- 54:11grasping. I am noticing that I am very conscious
- 54:14of any micro movements that I am making. And
- 54:18because I'm conscious of this, I'm getting tense.
- 54:21I can feel my shoulders lifting. I can feel my
- 54:24arms getting closer to my body and stiffer. Low
- 54:27and loose and then bring your arms up. Okay.
- 54:31Can you please move my rods? to the direction
- 54:34of the font you're also going why not why not
- 54:40moving okay the rods that i was holding were
- 54:51inconsistent one was going off on its own thing
- 54:55the other one just wasn't moving jewels were
- 54:58consistent they were pointed to wherever she
- 55:02asked them to be pointed to. But the music box
- 55:05kept going off and there's no way it could have
- 55:08picked up on the movement of myself and Jules
- 55:11because the way that the sensor was pointing
- 55:14was at the back of a pew. There's just no way
- 55:18that it would have picked us up. Something was
- 55:21going on. We have confirmed that we have a person
- 55:26here with us. Are you a child? The rod moved
- 55:30to a yes answer. Once again the rod moved to
- 55:39a yes. That was my yes. Once again the rod moved
- 55:56to a yes position. They've crossed, yep. Are
- 56:01you picking up a name? I feel I am. Joel said
- 56:06that she got the letter M when I asked that question,
- 56:09but I was feeling a letter J. Does your name
- 56:13begin with an M? The rods move very clearly.
- 56:18That's my yes. Yeah. Got the name Michael. Is
- 56:25your name Michael? Once again, the rods move.
- 56:30unmistakably to the yes. If this is my call,
- 56:34is there any chance you could set the music box
- 56:37off? Just at that moment a plane from Norwich
- 56:42Airport takes off and goes over a church. Jules
- 56:52goes on to explain what this plane is to Michael.
- 56:56She explains it's a product of our modern world
- 56:59and it is nothing to be afraid of. She then asked
- 57:02for confirmation if this Michael is concerned
- 57:05or worried or scared of these noises. That's
- 57:10something that's been scaring you a lot while
- 57:12you've been here. The rods have moved to affirm
- 57:16yes. It really is nothing to be afraid of. With
- 57:20love and compassion, Jules explains there's nothing
- 57:23to be concerned about. She explains the sounds
- 57:26and she gives encouragement. Not only encouragement
- 57:31to this Michael, but also to me. My rods just
- 57:35do not seem to want to work. Jules are going
- 57:38all over the place. They're responding to everything
- 57:40that she says. With me though... They just seem
- 57:43to be stuck still. I think I am really conscious
- 57:46that my micro movements are going to influence
- 57:49the answer, so I'm being very, very still. I'm
- 57:53being very conscious with the movement of my
- 57:55hands. With this, Joel suggests to swap rods
- 57:59because apparently people can have different
- 58:01reactions to different metals. In fact, let's
- 58:03swap. Okay. Sometimes different metals actually
- 58:07mean different things for different people. Maybe
- 58:09I'm just not psychic. Give them a good shake
- 58:11down. Just connect with the metal. Put your roots
- 58:14down as well. Ground from the bottom of your
- 58:17feet. Put your roots down into the earth and
- 58:19connect with the energies here. Michael, is your...
- 58:26Does your name also have Joseph in it? This is
- 58:30just a very strong feeling that I have. As I
- 58:32say this, jewels, rods swing round to yes. Oh,
- 58:37yes. Yeah, that's what I'm picking up on, but
- 58:38mine aren't moving a thing. I invite you to move
- 58:43my rods. These are just not working for me. There's
- 58:49just, there's just no movement in them whatsoever.
- 58:52Rather than sticking with something that is giving
- 58:55me no results whatsoever. And I'm also very conscious
- 58:57that while this form of divination, while this
- 59:00form of answering, is really interesting. It's
- 59:05coming from me. I really like the lights. I really
- 59:08like the music box. I really like the EMF meters
- 59:11because they are something independent. Whereas
- 59:13the dowsing rods, they're something that I am
- 59:16holding and therefore I can't guarantee our movements
- 59:20are not influencing the answers we are getting.
- 59:23That being said, Jules suggests that we switch
- 59:26tactics and she breaks out her pendulums. Amethyst,
- 59:44and this one is metal. That one. I'm going to
- 59:47draw onto that one. Go for it. I pick out the
- 59:49pendulum which is made of metal. A couple of
- 59:51different ways that you can hold a pendulum.
- 59:53So to begin with, you can literally hold it.
- 59:55Yes. Pinched between your pinkies like that.
- 59:58You can hold it so that it's pinched between
- 1:00:01your thumb and your middle finger and wrapped
- 1:00:03over your index finger. That's my personal preference.
- 1:00:06Okay. Purely because I find that more stable.
- 1:00:10This way round you run the risk of dropping it.
- 1:00:13Okay. And also it's easier for it to bounce around
- 1:00:17and move in your fingers like this and I personally
- 1:00:19find that just more stable. You're right, that
- 1:00:21is more stable. Yes. And what we want is we want
- 1:00:24answers from our guides, from spirit. We don't
- 1:00:28want it to come from those micro movements as
- 1:00:29I was talking about earlier. So with this, to
- 1:00:32begin with, just hold the pendulum in your hand.
- 1:00:35Just feel... Hi Michael. It's lovely that you're
- 1:00:44over there with us. You're very welcome here
- 1:00:47of course. We are in your space. So yeah, just
- 1:00:51feel the pendulum, okay? So just feel what it's
- 1:00:54made out of, just connect with the actual pendulum
- 1:00:57itself. And just in your mind, once again, ask
- 1:01:00your guides and your guardian angels, your spirit
- 1:01:03workers, your team to come forward, offer you
- 1:01:06more protection and to help you with the communication
- 1:01:09through the pendulum. You can hold your hand
- 1:01:13under the pendulum or you can not, whichever
- 1:01:15feels more comfortable and correct for you. I
- 1:01:19wouldn't hold it up here because again you're
- 1:01:21putting tension in your in your arm I would just
- 1:01:23have a nice relaxed so let that shoulder drop
- 1:01:27away from your ear put your elbow comfortably
- 1:01:30down by your side and you're just holding that
- 1:01:34pendulum nice and gently and once again you're
- 1:01:38going to ask a question that you know is a yes
- 1:01:42answer so for me it's my name Jules And yours
- 1:01:48is going back and forth away from you. I complete
- 1:01:51my baselines by asking if my name is Matt and
- 1:01:55it just spirals. There's no left and right, there's
- 1:01:58no back and forth, it just goes round and round.
- 1:02:00Then I ask if I'm 75 years of age. However, the
- 1:02:04movements are so subtle that I really can't tell
- 1:02:07if this is me or something else. Jules suggests
- 1:02:12that maybe I swap the pendant from a metal pendant
- 1:02:17to a crystal pendant as the crystals can actually
- 1:02:20absorb energy better than the metal ones. And
- 1:02:25also try a different pendulum. Sometimes crystals
- 1:02:27are easier because a crystal is a natural thing
- 1:02:32from the earth. So we know, for example, that
- 1:02:38clear quartz has got a very steady vibration
- 1:02:42because it's what's used to keep watches running
- 1:02:44on time and so that vibration is something which
- 1:02:47again we can connect to and can be easier to
- 1:02:51use as a communication device. I am cupping this
- 1:02:56crystal pendulum. I feel like I am putting my
- 1:02:59energy into it and I'm absorbing energy from
- 1:03:02it. I'm viewing this almost as a symbiotic relationship
- 1:03:05in my mind's eye. I then ask my first question.
- 1:03:10Is my name Matthew? The pendulum very gently
- 1:03:14begins to swing back and forth. There's movement
- 1:03:16there. There's less movement for me with the
- 1:03:22metal pendulum. Am I 75 years old? It's subtle
- 1:03:28but the movement does change from back and forth
- 1:03:31to left and right. There's a difference. It's
- 1:03:34moving. Yeah, it's very, it's subtle, but there
- 1:03:39is definite movement there. And what I found
- 1:03:42interesting as well was when I was copying it,
- 1:03:46I was visualizing me putting my energy into it
- 1:03:49and it putting its energy back into me. Much
- 1:03:53easier to do with a crystal pet. Yes. Because
- 1:03:56it's a natural item, it's something which has
- 1:03:59come from the earth. Yeah. And we walk the earth,
- 1:04:01so. More connected. Absolutely. Yep. okay okay
- 1:04:10so let's try and find out more about michael
- 1:04:12shall we armed with our new pendulums and our
- 1:04:15baselines complete we continue to ask more questions
- 1:04:18of michael okay so michael are you aged under
- 1:04:2610 as jules asked his question out loud in my
- 1:04:29mind's eye i saw michael as a 13 year old boy
- 1:04:32i've got a yes I have a note. Michael, are you
- 1:04:38aged between 10 and 15? I've got a yes. I have
- 1:04:44a yes. Let's just confirm. Michael, are you aged
- 1:04:48under 10? Sorry to ask you again, but we would
- 1:04:51just like to have confirmation. Very subtly,
- 1:04:55both of our pendulums are swinging left and right,
- 1:04:58and that is our no. Michael. Are you teasing
- 1:05:03with us? Are you enjoying, are you enjoying this?
- 1:05:06Are you enjoying this attention? Are you enjoying
- 1:05:08interacting with us? Oh yes. Oh yes. Yeah. As
- 1:05:17soon as Joel said that, I had this download and
- 1:05:20I knew that Michael was bored, but not with us
- 1:05:23and not the church. It was just a memory of going
- 1:05:26to church. I remembered that he had parents with
- 1:05:30him. His parents were with him. But there was
- 1:05:33a strong sense that the relationship that he
- 1:05:36had with his parents on earth is not the same
- 1:05:39relationship he has with his parents now. Parents
- 1:05:44are here. Both our pendulums swung back and forth
- 1:05:48to a yes. This is not permanent for you, is it?
- 1:05:52It's Michael. It's just going to know. You said
- 1:05:57it's not permanent for you. So just to confirm,
- 1:06:02Michael, you come here in visitation. Yeah. This
- 1:06:11is not permanent. So you are here just to visit.
- 1:06:15Again, both of our pendulums swing back and forth
- 1:06:17with a yes. Yeah, I've got a yes too. Thank you.
- 1:06:23So was this the church that you came to do your
- 1:06:27worship as a family? The pendulum would say yes.
- 1:06:32Yes and it was boring. Were you bored? A very
- 1:06:38strong yes. Heck yes. Yeah. Look at that strong
- 1:06:42yes. I don't blame you. So do you like us being
- 1:06:53here and asking these questions then Michael?
- 1:06:56The pendulum doesn't respond, but I am overcome
- 1:06:59with a wave of emotion and I'm knowing that Michael
- 1:07:01is 13. Michael, are you 13? Did you make, did
- 1:07:05you, yep, you did, yep, 13 years of age. Pendulum
- 1:07:09is a green. Yep. Oh, the emotion. Emotion, did
- 1:07:15you hear? Yeah, I just, I just, I think this
- 1:07:16is how I communicate. I just get emotion. Okay.
- 1:07:19This is my communication. Okay. My confirmation.
- 1:07:22Yep. Well, thank you for that communication,
- 1:07:27Michael. We do appreciate it. It's really beautiful.
- 1:07:32And it's lovely that you trust us enough to come
- 1:07:34and talk to us as well, so thank you. Is there
- 1:07:37anything that you need us to do for you, Michael?
- 1:07:42Any help that you need? My pendulum begins to
- 1:07:45swing back and forth, left and right, to a no.
- 1:07:49Mine's gone to a no. It is a no? Yeah. Pure curiosity.
- 1:07:55That's what I said earlier on. Curious. So you're
- 1:07:58quite happy here then, Michael, yes? The sense
- 1:08:01I get is that he's untroubled, but he finds the
- 1:08:04place boring. It's just, this is just boring.
- 1:08:06Yeah. Not us, but just the memories here. It's
- 1:08:09just boring. Okay. That's understandable. Yeah.
- 1:08:13My pendulum begins to swing very clearly. And
- 1:08:16I've got a yes or no. Well, it is very lovely
- 1:08:20to meet you, Michael. Are your parents here with
- 1:08:22you now? Are they with you at this moment? I've
- 1:08:28got yes, but they're not my parents. Well, I'm
- 1:08:31going around in a circle, which suggests unsure
- 1:08:34or can't answer yes or no. Oh, it's his watch
- 1:08:37of what I'm thinking. Thank you. Yes. In his
- 1:08:43world, the energy is not parental, child. That
- 1:08:48is purely for our world. So, guardians who keep
- 1:08:53you company in the spirit world? Am I, is this,
- 1:08:57okay, is this just my own belief? Is the people
- 1:09:00who are your parents in this life, they are with
- 1:09:04you, but they are equals? I have a yes. It's
- 1:09:10how I feel, I'm not getting confirmation on mine,
- 1:09:11but it's how I feel. Okay. It's the whole parent
- 1:09:15thing on that side doesn't exist, you are. That
- 1:09:19is for this world only. Maybe rephrase that then,
- 1:09:23because you said the parent world in this world,
- 1:09:27sorry the parent in this world. So Michael, the
- 1:09:31parents that you had on earth are with you in
- 1:09:36your spirit world. We stand in silence for what
- 1:09:39feels like minutes and there's no reaction. The
- 1:09:42music box does not go off, the pendulums are
- 1:09:45still, there's no movement. I think I'm fishing
- 1:09:48for something for too big. I think our understanding
- 1:09:53of relationships and connections when you get
- 1:09:56to the other planes of existence... Can't be
- 1:10:00comprehended. They're not the same, are they?
- 1:10:01No, and this is what I mean, they're his parents,
- 1:10:03but they're not parents. Does that make sense
- 1:10:07to you? Yes, it does, yes. Okay. Michael, is
- 1:10:10this you setting the music box up? You're getting
- 1:10:14strong, yes? I'm not sure if I'm... What I am
- 1:10:20feeling is that the energy has actually dropped
- 1:10:22in here. I almost feel like... He's stepped back.
- 1:10:25He's taken a step back. I feel like he's kind
- 1:10:28of like, he's come in, he's popped in and said
- 1:10:30hello. I felt when I was asking my questions,
- 1:10:32it dropped. I think that's him confirming what
- 1:10:37we're saying. That's how that feels. It's interesting
- 1:10:40how it's going off as well in response to what
- 1:10:43we're asking. We're not ready to know the answers
- 1:10:46for that yet. That's not for us. Thank you. What
- 1:10:53beautiful communication. With that we decide
- 1:10:57to bring our investigation within the church
- 1:10:59to a close. We feel we've had good positive communication
- 1:11:04through a variety of methods. And I feel that
- 1:11:07this introduction to paranormal investigating
- 1:11:10has been really interesting and I've really enjoyed
- 1:11:14it. That was really interesting. We collect all
- 1:11:20the paraphernalia that we have placed around
- 1:11:22the church, put them away into Jules's case.
- 1:11:26And as we go to leave, I noticed there's a guest
- 1:11:28book by the door. I pick up a pen and I write,
- 1:11:32Beautiful Church, Remembering Michael, Matt and
- 1:11:35Jules. And with that we open the heavy door,
- 1:11:39say our goodbyes to Michael and head outside.
- 1:11:54It's a strange sensation because only a few moments
- 1:11:57ago we were having this conversation with something
- 1:12:00that we could both feel and now the church feels
- 1:12:04empty. Wonderful. Cool, very very cool. Right.
- 1:12:18Do you want my torch? We head outside and the
- 1:12:20sky is full of thin wispy clouds with the almost
- 1:12:25bright moon shining just beyond them. The church
- 1:12:28is silhouetted against the Norfolk countryside
- 1:12:31with the almost naked branches of the oak trees
- 1:12:34framing our view. Using our torches we inspect
- 1:12:38points of interest around the church. It's made
- 1:12:40of old stone and flint. We inspect and look at
- 1:12:44old windows which have been blocked up probably
- 1:12:47due to Elizabeth I window tacks. And Jules explains
- 1:12:51to me that these bricks used to block up this
- 1:12:54window most likely came from Dutch trading ships
- 1:12:58trading back and forth between Norwich and Zeeland
- 1:13:01and these bricks were used as ballast to try
- 1:13:04and keep their ship steady on that sea. The churchyard
- 1:13:08is still but covered in tall ferns. These ferns
- 1:13:14reach so high that they actually cover the vast
- 1:13:16majority of headstones in this churchyard. We
- 1:13:19position ourselves next to four stone crucifix
- 1:13:23and it's here that Jules reveals her final gadget
- 1:13:26of the evening. Right, okay, so we are now out
- 1:13:31in the graveyard area and this device that I've
- 1:13:36got in my hand here, this is a different type
- 1:13:40of spirit box. So what this is, is a specially
- 1:13:44made radio that is set to AM as opposed to the
- 1:13:50FM frequency and what it does is it scrolls quite
- 1:13:55rapidly through various different channels on
- 1:13:58the radio. You can adjust the rate here and the
- 1:14:01volume of course and the idea of this is that
- 1:14:06you can use it as a tool to communicate with
- 1:14:08spirit by asking questions. The idea is that
- 1:14:13spirit can This little device is a silver radio,
- 1:14:18essentially. It's got a speaker in the middle
- 1:14:19and little knobs on the top. She explains to
- 1:14:22me how it works. Essentially, you ask a question
- 1:14:25and you listen out for an answer in the jumble
- 1:14:29of words that come through. This little box will
- 1:14:32scan through all different stations on the AM
- 1:14:35frequency, giving you a snippet of this show,
- 1:14:37a snippet of that show, a snippet of this word.
- 1:14:40And if it works, then you should get some sort
- 1:14:44of answer in the jumble of words to your question.
- 1:14:48She turns it on to demonstrate what it sounds
- 1:14:50like normally. So the idea is to ask questions
- 1:15:18and then to listen to this and see if we can
- 1:15:20get some meaningful answers from it, okay? So,
- 1:15:25just the same as when we were inside the church,
- 1:15:28are there any spirits here who wish to communicate
- 1:15:31with us now? Any spirits who are here with us
- 1:15:49right now in this graveyard, we mean you absolutely
- 1:15:52no harm. This device that I'm holding here can
- 1:15:56pick up your energy and you can use it to maybe
- 1:16:01stop it on a channel when you feel as though
- 1:16:04you're getting a word which is appropriate. I
- 1:16:26heard the word holy there. But other than that
- 1:16:29I haven't really heard any meaningful words.
- 1:16:32I heard a name that was important to me and then
- 1:16:36when I asked them to confirm it I heard the first
- 1:16:38part of that name again. Interesting. Yes. So
- 1:16:42I heard a small little chuckle and I heard the
- 1:16:44word holy. And you've heard things which are
- 1:16:48meaningful to you. I'll just turn this down for
- 1:16:51a second. Something which we do have to be very
- 1:16:53aware of is something called pareidolia. We're
- 1:16:55wanting this to happen as well, of course, so
- 1:16:57we're listing out the things that are going to
- 1:16:59be important to us. Absolutely. And have you
- 1:17:02heard of pareidolia before? Yes. Okay, so for
- 1:17:06those of you who are not paranormal freaks and
- 1:17:10don't know what pareidolia is, here is the Google
- 1:17:12definition. Pareidolia is the psychological phenomenon
- 1:17:16of the brain where it perceives a meaningful
- 1:17:19image or pattern in a random or ambiguous stimulus,
- 1:17:23such as seeing a face in clouds or toast. It
- 1:17:26is a common experience, not a disorder, stemming
- 1:17:30from the brain's evolutionary tendency to recognize
- 1:17:32patterns and faces to quickly identify friends,
- 1:17:35foes and important information. The most common
- 1:17:39form is seeing faces in inanimate objects like
- 1:17:42clouds, burnt toast, cars or rock formations.
- 1:17:46It also includes hearing words in random noise
- 1:17:49or finding figures in abstract patterns. I also
- 1:18:21heard the name Michael in there as well. I just
- 1:18:31want to jump in at this point I'm listening to
- 1:18:34this on the edit, and I have gone over and over
- 1:18:37and over that piece of audio where Joel says
- 1:18:41that she can hear the name Michael. I can't.
- 1:18:44I've heard it four or five times. And please
- 1:18:48feel free to jump back 10, 20 seconds yourself
- 1:18:51to try and hear it. The only thing that I can
- 1:18:54hear is the very, very early part of that piece
- 1:18:58of audio. Something says my. And then a few beats
- 1:19:02later, something says all. So I don't know if
- 1:19:06that is what Jaws was hearing. For me though,
- 1:19:09it wasn't one word. It was potentially Michael,
- 1:19:13but split up over several beats. But it wasn't
- 1:19:18enough for me to hear it initially. And it wasn't
- 1:19:20enough for me to really still recognize it as
- 1:19:23Michael. We mean you absolutely no harm, just
- 1:19:42a way of being able to communicate with you,
- 1:19:45so please do feel free to step closer to us and
- 1:19:48communicate with us. Once again, we just reinforce
- 1:19:52our protection while we're doing this. Light
- 1:20:12on, I just heard. I switched my torch to on.
- 1:20:20Good. Just as we turned the lights on? Yes. Okay.
- 1:20:24You'd prefer us to have the lights on, would
- 1:20:26you? Yes. Yes. Okay. We've got the lights on
- 1:20:34for you. These people make a lot of noise. These
- 1:20:42people make a lot of noise. Yes. Okay, I'm going
- 1:20:47to replay that for you. Listen out for these
- 1:20:50people make a lot of noise. I'm going to edit
- 1:20:53out mine and Joel's prompt so you'll only hear
- 1:20:56the audio that we heard. And one more time. Parodolia
- 1:21:13or a message from beyond. I will leave that up
- 1:21:17to you. To save your ears having to put up with
- 1:21:33these bursts of random noise we did this for
- 1:21:36a while it went on for a few minutes and you
- 1:21:39know we could make out some sentences we can
- 1:21:41make out some words but They were really random,
- 1:21:45didn't really have any coherence, didn't really
- 1:21:48have any context to what we were doing or where
- 1:21:51we were or the questions we were asking. Except
- 1:21:54when I asked if they wanted my torch turned back
- 1:21:58on. I'm going to turn my light off. Can you please
- 1:22:02make it known if you want it back on again? Would
- 1:22:12you like my torch off? On. On. I think yours
- 1:22:18is too bright. Is that better? In the next 10
- 1:22:32seconds, use a positive word to indicate yes.
- 1:22:51Interesting. I'm going to turn it off. It's a
- 1:22:58tool which you can use, but as with all tools,
- 1:23:02use it with caution. I think with things like
- 1:23:08that, it's very interesting, but you could almost
- 1:23:11make it fit, make a story up with a narrative
- 1:23:14in your mind. Yeah, you really can. Aren't you
- 1:23:21happy that you have enough material? I think
- 1:23:22that is fantastic. Yeah, thank you so much. That
- 1:23:26was really interesting. I think really productive
- 1:23:31as well. So there you have it, folks. That was
- 1:23:36the paranormal investigation which Jules took
- 1:23:39me on. Not to overuse the word, but I really
- 1:23:42think it was really interesting I had a thoroughly
- 1:23:45good time and I really hope this episode gives
- 1:23:48you a window into what a real -life investigation
- 1:23:51looks like It's not dramatic. It's not sensational
- 1:23:55quite often it is sitting in a quiet dark place
- 1:23:58and just waiting for something to happen and
- 1:24:01when that thing happens deciding whether or not
- 1:24:03that thing was perfectly natural or perfectly
- 1:24:07supernatural I'm very conscious I want to pick
- 1:24:11Jules' brains on this one and I have recorded
- 1:24:14an interview with her. Now that interview is
- 1:24:16going to be released in a few days time as a
- 1:24:19bonus episode. This episode is almost an hour
- 1:24:22and a half long. I do not want to go on anymore.
- 1:24:25But rest assured Jules will be coming back in
- 1:24:27just a couple of days to discuss how she felt
- 1:24:30this investigation went and together we reflect
- 1:24:33on the events that happened during this spooky
- 1:24:35evening. So at the risk of sounding like a really
- 1:24:39corny podcast host, please make sure you subscribe,
- 1:24:43please make sure you hit that notification bell
- 1:24:45so that when an episode drops it goes straight
- 1:24:47into your podcast feed. Right, my wonderful lovely
- 1:24:53explorers, I am going to love you and leave you.
- 1:24:56Before I do though, we're only a couple of weeks
- 1:24:58in the winter solstice so as we step deeper into
- 1:25:02the season of longest night, May this investigation
- 1:25:05remind you that the unseen is always closer than
- 1:25:09we think. Winter Solstice invites us to pause,
- 1:25:13listen and honour what whispers in the dark.
- 1:25:17So on that note, I will love you and leave you.
- 1:25:20Take care guys. Bye.
